Speaker 1: You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio.

00:00:04
Speaker 2: You know, I'm a shooter and a maker too. There's a lot of guys who were shooters but not necessarily makers, and I always focus on the sound. There's something about it whenever you made a shot when you're in high school or grade school or college, and if it made the net zip, like that was pure like that that one stays with the defensive person. It's like, damn. You know. There's certain guys like when Steph Curry makes it, he makes it and you couldn't make it any better than that. Yes, it's like so I'm watching Texas Tech in Cincinnati last night and I'm listening to the Missus and it's clanking. The rim was terrible. Now, there's certain places around the country and I don't know if it's how they mike the rim or how it's affixed to the backboard, but it was. I had to turn I had to turn it off. It was so annoying that whenever you miss, and it's almost a reminder of yeah, you missed the shot. You really missed the shot. I get echoes and it's clank And I don't know why any team would put up with that. If I'm on that team, I would say, we got to that has to sound better. Now you can say, welly, don't you make the shot. But I'm listening to the game and it's almost like the sound of metal bats when you're watching you know, the College World series ding ding, and I hate that too. But watching Texas Tech and Cincinnati, and every time when somebody would put a shot up, I was like, I didn't root for anybody, but I was rooting for the ball to go in, so I didn't hear that crank the things that bother me.

00:01:50
Speaker 3: Yeah.

00:01:51
Speaker 4: Coincidentally, I text you, guys. I was also watching this game Tech versus the Bearcats. This kid, Christian Anderson was awesome. There was a loose rim feel, like a tink when shots were missed. I just went back and listened to it. I think it's overmight really because it's very loud. When guys were bricking shots off the rim, there's like this loose, tinky sound.

00:02:12
Speaker 2: Yeah, but if we go round into the field house here and we shoot hoops, you don't hear that sound. What I shoot you do plenty of plenty of bricks. Yeah, but yeah, I mean there's a lot of guys missing a lot of shots here, especially Marvin.

00:02:24
Speaker 5: There is something about that rattle that you hear that sounds like the rim is going to fall off at any minute, and it's almost sometimes like I missed because of the rim, not because of me.

00:02:34
Speaker 2: I don't think you get a shooter's bouncer. Shooters roll on rims like that. But for some reason, there's certain places in America where you go, Man, that sounds weird that when you miss and how maybe it's miked, I don't know, but that strikes me as odd. It feels like just and everybody should have universal equipment. You would think with the rim and the backboard, I would think that has you know that maybe they're selling it, you know, the same company is selling that product to all of these you know, universities here. But maybe it is how you know the rim is mic Maybe somebody who works in the industry of micing up rims. Uh, maybe somebody at Texas Tech can tell us about that, because oh I hated it. You know, it's one thing to miss, but then it's no, man, you really missed. Like that sounds like a brick. When somebody shoots a brick, you go damn. You know, it's like you're Ben Simmons or Angel Reese when you're shooting and it's like, man, it shouldn't sound that bad. Yeah, Paul.

00:03:40
Speaker 4: Do you think there's something different with the structure of college basketball rims these days that that's a little looser for dunks or something?

00:03:47
Speaker 2: No, because they have those rims that collapse, or they have a little bit of give, or at least they used to where if you dunked, it would come down a little bit. So if you were doing it with a thought, then you might have some give to the rim.

00:04:03
Speaker 5: Yes, I think you hear it a lot. Actually in the tournament. You hear because you're playing in so many different gyms all over the place. You hear that a lot in the NCAA tournament, that loose rim gluten I hated it.

00:04:20
Speaker 2: First Hour brought to you by z Kliner Trouble Sleeping, the revolutionary recliner designed by Flex Steel and engineered with RESTful sleep in mind, making it an ideal bed alternative. Healthy life starts with a healthy night's sleep. Visit zkliner dot com, slash Danpatrick today and find z Kleiner at a store near you. Okay, poll question for the first hour of the program. Then we'll read between the lines with some of these gms and coaches at the combine. I also have odds Baseball odds for al NL MVP and the World Series odds that DraftKings just sent to me. I'm falling in like with a player who plays for the Pittsburgh Pirates, not necessarily Paul's schemes. They have a nineteen year old who hits bombs, and we'll talk about that coming up. How long is every time you see a player with certain franchises you go, well, he's not gonna be there very long. What's his name? Connor Griffin? Connor with a K from Mississippi? Do we have one of his home runs? And he hit yesterday?

00:05:27
Speaker 3: Okay?

00:05:28
Speaker 2: You know I love the sound when Otani hits a home run. Jack Peterson was another guy that it just sounds different. Well, listen to this kid, John Well here for Connor Griffin. Then is up towards the Green Monster in Long Gone second home one of the game for Connor Griffith. People, if you don't know the name yet, you will suit them. So they're wondering if he's to make the team, you should hit third. He bats seventh in the lineup, and it sounded like somebody got shot when you hear it played. Just the sound again, Marvin Wow. He's nineteen, he's six' four and he's a. Shortstop he also steals bases and and you, know when you start to think about, IT i grew up in an era where The reds and The, pirates you, know The, dodgers they were the class of The National league for the most, part and you just you knew they were going to be there in the playoffs every single. Year The reds And, pirates they had, battles and you know that's long, gone and you had we are. Family you had the Big red. Machine you, know certainly The dodgers with you, Know garvey And say And Lopes, russell AND i miss that. Now The, dodgers of course aren't going. Away they are the pre eminent. Franchise but With cincinnati you're kind of on the cusp of making the playoffs every. Year The pirates just a curiosity When Paul skeene's. Pitches but you do have talent. THERE i just wish you could keep the talent. There And i'm not smart enough to know, this but COULD i get some kind of equity group to come in and, say how about we spend, money almost like the collectives that you have with college athletics with, football where you, say, hey we're gonna spend thirty five million. Dollars you, know look AT byu spending all their money on. Basketball there's certain you, Know liberty did this with their football. Team could somebody do that with The? Pirates come in and, say all, right give us forty eight, percent forty nine percent of the, team and we're going to make this a powerhouse. Again we're going to keep all this talent. Here because it's a wonderful. Stadium you stay in, downtown you walk over the, bridge and it is it's a, great great ballpark because it took in the, vista it took in the. City but you, KNOW i can't help but watch and. Go you, Know Roberto clemente is not coming through the, door or if he, is he's not staying long Or stargel Or Al, Oliver Rennie, Stennett Manny. SANGEEAN i, mean there's so many, great great players who played In, pittsburgh AND i thought of that this is a nineteen year old. KID i don't know if he's going to make the. Roster he was the minor league player of the, year and what's his. Future at what point do you, Say i'm gonna Trade paul's. Schemes what can we get For Paul? Skins, well you get more draft, Picks so then you start over. Again are you going to get a chance to play in the? Playoffs BECAUSE i think if you're A pirate fan or you, know it's like The, Steelers hey we had a winning, Record well that's not good. Enough but for The, pirates if you have a winning record and maybe you get a chance to play, in you, know the, playoffs you would accept. That with The, steelers, no we win. Championships, well The pirates won. Championships but it just feels like two different avenue because you have a salary cap in football and you don't in. Baseball BUT i don't know if you could have an equity group come in and, go you know what we're gonna. Spend we're gonna keep our talent. Here in, fact we're gonna go out and get some players. Here, Yes Marvin Connor.

00:09:14
Speaker 6: Griffin needs to be on to cover the media. Guide right, Now i'm printing out jerseys with his number and name on it right, Now.

00:09:21
Speaker 2: Well you got to make sure that he makes the. Roster who's gonna be in fun of? Him i'm just you, know it's it's uh spring training. Baseball, SORRY i got passionate about The. Pirates, yeah spring training. Baseball Garth brooks got a base. HIT i think in spring? Training didn't he Remember Charlie pride the he Was African american country singer who and he could he could. HIT i think he had a base knock maybe, Off Jim, palmer can you check that? Checking Did Charlie pride have a base knock? Off The Baltimore Oriole hall Of Famer Jim? PALMER i gotta get a, life, Yes. Paul so this, Kid Connor griffin with A.

00:10:00
Speaker 4: K WHEN i saw, that he's got to be AN sec baseball player with that, name he, uh he was committed TO.

00:10:06
Speaker 2: Lsu of.

00:10:06
Speaker 4: Course he's From. Mississippi he was hit five thirty seven in high. School he's also the best pitcher in the state at seven to. One but he doesn't pitch. Anymore, yeah but why?

00:10:17
Speaker 2: Not why? Not here's your O? Tani, Yeah, kotani let's go oh bl. Bloop, yes and his first name begins with a k you, know you, know striking out people that he's nineteen years of, age and those are hit two bombs, yesterday play one more? Time see now that? SOUND i, like Unless i'm a, pitcher because when you hear that, sound you, go, God i'm giving up. One and everybody heard That i'm giving up. One it's not one of those that might. Be it could be it's like how? Far yes.

00:10:59
Speaker 5: See that's one of the worst things when you're pitching in a baseball game is.

00:11:04
Speaker 2: You throw a.

00:11:04
Speaker 5: Pitch oftentimes there is a zero point twenty five of a second where you, think oh, crap because you see where it's going and your last memory is that, sound and the trajectory of the ball going off the bat into it just a horrible direction and you just stand there, like Oh, god DO i even want to turn around right?

00:11:23
Speaker 2: Now this is? Awful And Greg maddis once told, ME i, said what's a home run sound? Like he said a car? Crash, Yes, todd if you were.

00:11:30
Speaker 4: Pitching and you heard that, sound are you more likely to turn around and watch it or you don't even want to?

00:11:34
Speaker 2: Look IF i know there's a home run? Fence, uh then, NO i don't need to unless you. Go, MAN i got to admire that, because you, know in a conversation With, MADDOX i, said would you rather give up the one that goes three hundred and one feet and just trickles over the fence or goes four to? Fifty he, goes, oh four. Fifty he, Said, Hey i'll admire. It but of course he didn't give up many home runs he could say, That but, MAN i love that. Sound, Yes, paulie which.

00:12:03
Speaker 4: Do you are you more bothered by The Texas tech rims or in love with The Connor griffin home?

00:12:08
Speaker 2: Runs, Well i'm gonna go. Positive i'm gonna skew. Positive but, MAN i gotta tell you, THOUGH i turned off THE tv because of the sound of the rim last. Night, terrible. Terrible all, right do we have a poll? Question you know? What we'll wait until after the. Break that'll keep people in their. Car, yes, Yes, morvan you were you were.

00:12:28
Speaker 6: Correct Charlie pride famously hit a single off Of hall Of fame Pitcher Jim palmer during The Texas ranger spring training.

00:12:35
Speaker 2: Game, okay all, RIGHT i still got. It you know you got? It, YEAH i mean not, consistently BUT i still got. IT i.

00:12:43
Speaker 3: Can there's some.

00:12:44
Speaker 2: Moments, yeah Like i'll get a quality. Start i'll go like five and two. Thirds give, YEAH i can't go, nine But i'm gonna give you five and two Thirds.

00:12:57
Speaker 5: Hour, Two segment. Three i'm, sorry that's. Six all?

00:13:00
Speaker 2: Right how about we take a break and we just kind of recollect here our thoughts and we'll hear from some of the. Gms you, know they're talking about topics that are really important or even more important at the, combine and the gms are. Available normally they. Aren't and this is WHERE i love when they get in front of the, media because they normally don't get in front of the, media and what are they gonna say without trying to say? Anything take a break back after, this.

Speaker 2: Away he does It all covers college, basketball college, football and The. Olympics pat Forty Sports illustrated senior. Writer have you been To Texas? Tech? Like this rim is bothering? ME i turned off the game last night because of the sound, Here, Pat i'm such a. Loser h it.

00:14:27
Speaker 3: Is the the one power conference SCHOOL i haven't been, To okay for some, REASON i just can't make myself rush to love.

00:14:33
Speaker 2: It, Okay but SO.

00:14:35
Speaker 3: I can't tell you whether the rim sounds that bad in person as it does ON.

00:14:39
Speaker 2: Tv is there an arena where it's noticeable to, you.

00:14:44
Speaker 3: Uh with the with like the rim sound like the?

00:14:47
Speaker 2: Clank? Right it just sounds. Different there's certain there's And March madness brings this out, too where you just hear that clank and it drove me crazy last.

00:14:58
Speaker 3: Night. Yeah, well a lot of Time March madness like they're bringing out new rims sometimes because you know that you're playing in a different. Arena maybe they're using THE nba, rims but maybe they're bringing in new, ones so you get all kinds of a. VARIETY i guess of rim tones if you.

00:15:13
Speaker 2: Will you were In italy In milan for three. Weeks so ten years from, now the obvious is going to be the men's hockey team that we'll, remember, Correct, yeah, okay wellout? Question what would be the second topic that will remember from These olympics.

00:15:31
Speaker 3: The women's team and the women's. GAME i think hockey that was. PHENOMENAL i covered both of, those and the intensity of that game was no less than the MEN'S i, MEAN i think like The canadian fans especially are more bought in on the men's, team but they still support women's hockey and hockey is their birthright sport and they don't see themselves losing and having it be justifiable in any, way shape or. Formance like if THE us doesn't win gold in, basketball, right there's no, excuses no justifiable. Excuses so the investment is immense there and THE us and the winner's tide was so dominant and blew out The, canadians and you think that's gonna be a, walkover and it ended up being this unbelievable dogfight that really mirrored the Men's it was one to one in ot going into, overtime took a spectacular goal to. Win SO i think that one really stood out to me as. Well the, skiing the alpine skiing shifferent and then the, horrible horrible injury To Lindsay vaughan as.

00:16:29
Speaker 2: Well you you, know we made a movie out of the miracle on, ice this this hockey. Team it played out like it was a movie in real life that's happening. HERE i MEAN i could See Timothy chalomet Playing Jack hughes with his teeth cracked at the end of. It Johnny, hockey you, know they bring Out goodrow's, jersey they bring out his kids on the, ice you, know us Against. CANADA i don't, know just felt theatric more than you, KNOW i thought it was going to.

00:17:03
Speaker 3: One hundred percent, cinematic that's for. Sure, YEAH i mean it was, incredible not just you, know the, storylines but then the way the game played, out and then, yes the the, aftermath the. Elements first of, all, yes of the the guy that scores the winning goal getting his face busted open a few minutes, earlier but then, yes The gaudreau scene was incredible There in, PERSON i ended up standing Behind Johnny hockey's family during the anthem and talking to his dad immediately. Afterward AND i, mean you want to talk about an emotional, scene and just you, know it was hard for them to be, there really hard for them to be, there but the pride that they, had and THEN i think the way that they were honored by the team was immensely gratifying for.

00:17:47
Speaker 2: Them how surprising was it to actually see them?

00:17:50
Speaker 3: THERE i was, Surprised LIKE i you, know, AGAIN i don't know whether IF i were in that situation it would have the wherewithal to be there for. That but they're a hockey. FAMILY i, mean Guy gadro the dad was a, player was a. Coach they you, know hockey is in their blood and so they were certainly going to be watching the games. Anyway AND i, think you, know the the poll or the investment that the the invitation that was offered for them to be part of it and in such a meaningful, WAY i think really sold them on let's let's go ahead and do. It and then to have it turn out that, WAY i, mean you, know For American, americans to be pretty badly outplayed for a lot of that game and still find a way to win and then to honor him Who you're, right that is Theatrical.

00:18:36
Speaker 2: Pat Forty Sports illustrated senior writer and his podcast others receiving. VOTES i was curious about some of the talent at the combine you cover college, football and best player you saw this year at any position was who.

00:18:54
Speaker 3: Maybe Jeremiah love in terms of LIKE i think translation to an, BOY i look at him AND i think that He i'd be really shocked if he. MISSED i Think Fernando mendoz is. AWESOME i voted for him to win The. Heisman he's probably gonna be the first. Pick but quarterback going into The raiders in that, situation you, know best of luck to. You Ruben bain From miami is another guy WHO i think is close to can't miss just incredible, motor, violence, instinct everything and at a position where there's always a premium on talent for rushing the.

00:19:30
Speaker 2: Passer Ty, simpson you, KNOW i got to see him a couple of, times like a full, game AND i was impressed with. Him but then at the end of the, year you, know he fell off the team fell, off he got, hurt but it still feels like you, know supply and. Demand there's one it feels like surefire, quarterback and then there's a couple THAT i don't. KNOW i Don't, yeah and that brings me to somebody is going to jump in the first round probably and draft, him and in any other draft he's probably not a first round. Pick.

00:20:07
Speaker 3: Right there's a very low supply of good quarterbacks this, year and so he becomes more, valuable and you, KNOW i. Agree, look there are TIMES i thought he played exceptionally. Well he would have great games where he would have great stretches of, games but then by the end of the season he was not very. Effective it looked like he lost a lot of his. Confidence you, know Against indiana he looked completely, perplexed, confused, overwhelmed and then he ended up getting. Hurt you.

00:20:35
Speaker 2: Know.

00:20:35
Speaker 3: Quarterback to, me it's such a learning. Positions you, know the very few guys just come in and are ready to go right. Away and SO i think you look at Ty simpson and, think, yeah he can get, there but are you gonna thrust him into a bad position early and risk you, know fracturing his confidence even further than it seemed like it happened At. ALABAMA i don't, know you, know that's one of those. Things that's why they PAID gms to kind of do that calculus of how soon do we need somebody who's probably not.

00:21:03
Speaker 2: READY i don't know if it's an. ABERRATION i don't know if it's just a stretch, here but it suddenly feels like college football runs through The Big ten and not THE. Sec if you're THE, sec you don't have tech. Money some have oil. Money but how do you counter The Big ten moving? Forward it's a.

00:21:24
Speaker 3: Great question because there really has been there has been an undeniable. Shift. Right they've won three different three straight national championship with three different, teams the kind of thing THE sec used to. Do THE sec hasn't had a team in the championship game the last three. Years and, yes the pockets tend to be deeper with alumni bases at those, huge relatively academically Prestigious midwestern, Universities eastern you, know some to The west, too they're all over the place now with The Big. TEN i think what you have to do is get back to proof of concept and say we will pay you enough so that you're. Getting you're getting a good college, living but we're gonna get you to THE nfl where you're gonna make a great college. Living you've got to be able to show we're gonna put guys in the first round and we're gonna get you those, contracts and you're gonna be rich regardless Of you're gonna be kind of rich in, college and then you're gonna be filthy rich afterwards because you played At georgia or you played At, alabama or you played At.

00:22:22
Speaker 2: Texas but it's as simple as some have suggested, that, hey you paid. Players now everybody gets, paid therefore you don't have that.

00:22:31
Speaker 3: Advantage, no, no, no, no that you, know the oversimplifications of all these things are kind of, humorous you. KNOW i, mean there has been a, shift but that doesn't mean nobody else was. Cheating i'm relatively aware of what was going on at various different, SCHOOLS ncaa, investigations what the parking lots looked like in a lot of those football powers that weren't in THE. Sec come, on, now it's not that simple to a. Degree, yeah but it's not the.

00:22:59
Speaker 2: Factor, okay you don't have to name the school but is there, one you know that maybe was egregious in what they were. Doing he got a.

00:23:07
Speaker 3: STORY i, MEAN i think there were plenty of them in the state Of, texas none of which used to be in THE sec until. Recently The West coast. CERTAINLY i, mean, LOOK usc got hit pretty. Hard miami had some spectacular. Scandals everybody Remembers Devin shapiro. There clemson had some stuff going on back in the. Day so you, know it's. Happened it's been around at various. Places So i'm not here to say that everybody else was clutching their pearls pristinely while THE sec was wheeling and.

00:23:38
Speaker 2: Dealing, okay but SHOULD usc have been punished as harshly as they were for The Reggie bush situation in?

00:23:45
Speaker 3: Retrospect? No, No but that doesn't mean that there wasn't financial reward for going to school there at a time when that was not part of the. Rules but, no the penalty was. Oversized and let's, look the history of the NCA hey has been incredibly inefficient punishment punctuated with over. Enforcement, basically every once in a while when they finally get, somebody they overdo. It AND i think Us he's probably the biggest example of.

00:24:12
Speaker 2: That, well look back To Jim. Tressel, yeah that was over tattoos and, players you, know giving trading in their equipment to get you, know jerseys like sure costume.

00:24:23
Speaker 3: Is to a lie about, it and that's what that's what.

00:24:26
Speaker 2: Brought the lie always gets.

00:24:28
Speaker 3: You, yeah the economics of, it we are pretty laughable by what we're looking at.

00:24:32
Speaker 2: Today the number one storyline in college basketball is what.

00:24:38
Speaker 3: Uh to? Me it is this unbelievable freshman class and whether or not they can get over against some of the more experienced teams in front of, them Like michigan And arizona's got a really good freshman. Cope But michigan has got this kind of juggernaut team that's not relying on the young. Guys but Then duke's Got Boozer AND i mean so many different teams have great freshman. Players kansas Has, peterson you, know there's like eight really good. Freshmen can they take a team to a national championship In, march i in In? APRIL i Think florida look out for. Them they're coming together at the right time and that is not a freshman dependent team. Either so can the veteran teams beat the freshman led star.

00:25:23
Speaker 2: Teams The Darren peterson. Situation what do you make of? This that he might be the best player in college? Basketball BUT i would not be drafting him UNTIL i got further explanation into do you really love? Basketball, yeah that would be my point.

00:25:41
Speaker 3: Exactly If i'm AN, Nbagm, like they're gonna be ten good freshmen coming, out and do you want one who's gonna be, Like, Eh i'm not playing, today you, know or. Tomorrow check back On. Thursday we'll. See you, Know i'm gonna take myself out of games that you're going to make a massive investment in somebody who hasn't proved what you, said does he how much does he like? Basketball how much does he want to? Play how much does he want to compete when he's out? There who he's really? Good But i'd be looking at these other guys and, Saying, yeah they're playing forty minutes and they're playing every, game AND i kind of like that.

00:26:15
Speaker 2: More when does tournament expansion.

00:26:18
Speaker 3: Start they're still pushing for it for twenty twenty. SEVEN i would expect it to probably happen then and they'll go to seventy, six and it'll be. Terrible but you, know that's What Charlie baker, wants that's what a lot of other people. Want they're trying, to you, know dredge some more money out of the broadcast deal for, this but they also want to make everybody happy by getting more teams in the. TOURNAMENT i think it's a terrible. DEVELOPMENT i don't think it helps the tournament in any. Way BUT i think it's, coming whether it's twenty seven or beyond. It there's been a lot of backlash that's pushed it. BACK i thought it could be this, year and now it's a maybe probably for next, year so the backlash is at least forestalled things a.

00:26:58
Speaker 2: Bit, okay but happens first college basketball expansion or college football playoff.

00:27:04
Speaker 3: Expansion, oh college football playoff expansion is certainly coming, sixteen hopefully enough this ridiculous twenty Four they maybe may, coincide may both be in twenty twenty. Seven you, know that might be what we're looking at. Here but you, KNOW i like. TWELVE i think twelve is great and has been really good for the last two. Years happy to see it again in twenty twenty. Six but they want. Sixteen and if it's a choice between sixteen or twenty, Four i'll run to.

00:27:34
Speaker 2: Sixteen it's about, Money, PAT i, mean all these years it was one versus, two and then we went to four AND i was happy at. Four, YEAH i you, know we doubled the size of the. Playoffs now you go to. Twelve i'm happy with. Twelve but they're looking at all the. Money here's you college, basketball all of the. Money that's what it's all. About and it's not a question of. If but when we have. Expansion, now you, know we Had Jim beheim on who's he suggested ninety six teams in THE NC Doublea. TOURNAMENT i, mean, arci come, on every coach would want, expansion do ensure they get into the. Postseason but after a, WHILE i MEAN i grew up when it was thirty two teams in THE NC Doublea tournament and that seemed like a lot back.

00:28:22
Speaker 3: Then, yeah and they expanded to forty it was like. Whoa and then.

00:28:26
Speaker 2: They went to forty.

00:28:26
Speaker 3: Eight? Whoa you, KNOW i thought sixty four was the absolute sweet. Spot. Fantastic you, know they went there in nineteen eighty. Five the seeding one through sixteen everybody played the same number of. Games it was. Perfect then they started junking it up, more and they're going to continue to junk it up. More never listen to the. Coaches don't. Look that's a great. Coach it doesn't mean he knows what's good for college, basketball what's good for? Coaches they all only think of. Themselves they never think of anything outside Of this is my worldview right, here these, binoculars these. BLINDERS i love.

00:28:59

Speaker 5: Cognizant we have a new one for. You let me wrap up this other. One more annoying sounds than SPORTS a tinny rim in basketball or a metal bat in. Baseball this is at a sixty forty, split with that tinny rim being the most annoying.

00:29:39
Speaker 3: Thing, YEAH i.

00:29:40
Speaker 2: Had to turn off The Texas Tech cincinnati game last, night And Texas tech's got a guy who can fill it. Up we saw that last, night But cincinnati was. Clanging who's the guy From Texas?

00:29:54
Speaker 9: Tech Christian, anderson sophomore.

00:29:56
Speaker 2: Guard, yeah and what do you? Have like thirty one or?

00:29:59
Speaker 9: Yeah one eleven and Seven Red?

00:30:01
Speaker 2: RAIDER i like? It, Sorry.

00:30:02
Speaker 5: Dan for THE us lay, people fill it up means you, Score, oh you score. That for those of us that didn't, play.

00:30:12
Speaker 2: Yeah they call Him hans Or Hans christian and it's a very deep. Cut but thank, you thank you for. Contributing what's the? Thought all? Right what else do you, Have? Seaton we've got up, There Sons Christian anderson to kind.

00:30:31
Speaker 4: Of christmas fictional character in one of those.

00:30:34
Speaker 2: Books didn't he like skate across the you, know he was.

00:30:38
Speaker 3: Just started with some fictitional person like Around christmas, Time Hans Christian, Anderson.

00:30:42
Speaker 4: Hans not, hands, hands he's The danish Author. Dan he The Emperor's New, clothes The Little, mermaid The, nightingale The Red, shoes et.

00:30:51
Speaker 2: Cetera, OH i thought he was he skated across the frozen tundra or something that's Hands. Christian that's his, Brother. HANSEY i, mean who knew That hamlet had a brother Named? Hamnet did you guys realize that that's not? True? Yeah, NO i think it's. True there's a movie Called hamnet that's out. Now in, fact the woman who's gonna be The oscar winner For Best actress is going is in that, movie and it's Called. Hamnet so they called there Was hamlet And. Hamnet, Yes Pauline.

00:31:27
Speaker 4: Hamnett is the son Of Bill shakespeare and Wife. Agnes AND i don't want to spoil, anything, OKAY i want to tell what.

00:31:32
Speaker 2: Happens it probably doesn't go well For, hamnet little Ham. Yeah but so there Was hamlet And. Hamnet they were, brothers, right both real?

00:31:42
Speaker 9: People, YES i Think hamnet's the. Son, okay but Is?

00:31:46
Speaker 2: Hamlet? Wait was he just a fictitious?

00:31:49
Speaker 9: CHARACTER i think?

00:31:54
Speaker 2: So i'm seeing here That Shakespeare's.

00:31:56
Speaker 5: Hamlet, yeah not a real, person but a fictionalized character based on uh somebody.

00:32:03
Speaker 2: Else, okay so maybe maybe Another hamlet is based off Of, hamnet Some dutch Person i'm seeing, Here Hans Christian. Anderson, well, Yes todd and a fictional character actually have a real.

00:32:15
Speaker 4: Brother probably not, right if you're a fictional, person you can't have a real.

00:32:18
Speaker 2: Anything anything else that you'd like to. Add.

00:32:23
Speaker 5: Seaton, yes as a matter of, fact there is this one's here From Paul more our most awkward. Situation mm. Hmm i've got four options, here but these are up for. Review The raiders And Max crosby, Awkward cardinals And Kyler murray, Awkward tua and The. Dolphins and the other option here IS jj McCarthy and Your Minnesota. Vikings those are all tricky situations right.

00:32:54
Speaker 2: There the awkward. PART i think The vikings trying to figure out you bring somebody in and have some, competition WHICH i think they need to. Do FOR jj, McCarthy do The dolphins just hold on to two of because he's so expensive and maybe this is just a gap year where you, go all, Right. Kyler they got to get their story straight of Did kyler talk to THE gm or not to you, know or vice, versa Because kyler said he didn't talk to monte osin Fort here's The CARDINALS gm on his quarterbacking. Situation you, Know.

00:33:36
Speaker 10: Here's WHAT i would, say Is i've said, Before i'd say all options are on the table for. Us, okay we Got Kyler Jacoby keaton all under. Contract as it pertains to that, position as it pertains to every position on our, Team we're going to look at every avenue to improve and we're going to continue and go through our process with.

00:33:55
Speaker 2: That, okay that sounds like a. Mess it sounds like you don't have a quarterback because you would like for YOUR gm to, say, oh we have our franchise quarterback And Kyler, murray but you. DON'T i don't think he plays With, arizona AND i think it feels like The cardinals are trying to create some kind of market where, man you, better you better come in and give us a great offer For Kyler. Murray you got three, quarterbacks you don't have one. Quarterback Guest. Hud it's also a lot of words of saying, nothing AND i for one can appreciate saying a lot of words and nothing, really but this is what your goal is if you're A. Gm all, right we have to speak to the. Media it's the combine and you're going to get the. Questions you know what the questions. Are it's, like you, know The. RAIDERS gm is A john. Spytech he knows he's going to be asked About Max crosby And Fernando.

00:34:47
Speaker 10: Mendoza max is an elite, player And i've been very upfront from the from the start WHEN i got here, that you, know we're we're in the business of having really good players on the.

00:34:57
Speaker 3: Team and we need we need a lot more of. Them and you, know it's hard to build a great team with aut elite.

00:35:01
Speaker 2: Players the first picking the, draft teams are bound to come. Calling, you, guys feel like the need to answer those calls and listen to.

00:35:08
Speaker 3: OFFERS i learned a long time. Ago always. Listen i'm always.

00:35:11
Speaker 2: Listening, Okay, yeah you listen and you Love Max, crosby and every team wants to have a player like.

00:35:18
Speaker 9: That.

00:35:19
Speaker 2: Uh why Was Max crosby held out of the last two games of the regular, Season that's WHAT i want to. Know he didn't want to be held, out so to, me The raiders were ensuring they were going to get the number one pick in the. Draft they tanked right in front of. Everybody, yes, TIME i.

00:35:38
Speaker 3: Think that decision was done with. Love you, know they're playing.

00:35:40
Speaker 6: Terribly WHY i have him out there for meaningless?

00:35:42
Speaker 2: Games, yeah but he wanted to be out, there and that's part of the reason there's you, know discourse here or, disconnect because that's when he, Said i've played my last game, here and If i'm The, RAIDERS i trade. Him let's build around your. QUARTERBACK i don't care if you have a great edge. Rusher if you don't have an offensive, line you're gonna do damage to that. Quarterback And Max crosby is, Great he's one of my favorite. Players he plays hard all the, time and he's twenty eight years of age and he's under contract making over thirty million dollars the next two. YEARS i would trade him because you're not ready to Have Max crosby help you win games until that quarterback is. Ready with that offensive, line you're doing a disservice to your team because it won't. Matter but IF i could, get you, know another first round, pick a second round pick For Max, CROSBY i would do. That it's like The bengals With Trey. HENDRICKSON i would have traded.

00:36:43
Speaker 3: Him.

00:36:44
Speaker 2: Now they probably thought we're a playoff. Team they did have, injuries but you, know he's thirty years of. Age Max crosby is twenty. Eight he's gonna won another contract, here AND i would definitely trade him as much AS i would miss. Him you're not doing anything for the next two. Years then you have The dolphins. Situation John Eric sullivan is the New dolphin's general manager and talked about the possibility of Trading. Tua we've had conversations With tua and his.

00:37:18
Speaker 8: Representation everything's on the, table including the potential of a.

00:37:23
Speaker 2: Trade we don't know which way that's going to.

00:37:26
Speaker 8: Go there's a lot of different factors that, play a lot of conversations being had evaluating the. Roster you, Know quin did a nice job towards the end of the, year excited about what's ahead for. Him you know, TOO i, thought even though things didn't go well at the end of the, year did some good things along the. Way and it's my job to infuse competition into that room along with every other room as we go down the.

00:37:49
Speaker 2: Road, okay that's a word.

00:37:52
Speaker 5: Salad, Yeah see that reminds me of hearing that clip different, sport but in THE. Nba, gosh who's the THE gm of The Charlotte.

00:38:03
Speaker 2: Hornets, God i'm blanking on the. Name what is?

00:38:07
Speaker 3: It?

00:38:08
Speaker 2: Dan you know Not mitch cup?

00:38:11
Speaker 5: Check, dan how's closer to? You had hit you in the nuts right, now BUT i can't a cup. Check, yeah, sorry, yeah long way for that. JOKING i felt like it was worth it.

00:38:22
Speaker 2: All get a nut joke in. There thank, You. Tod who is that THE? Gm Charlotte, Hornets, Oh mitch Cup. Check it's still one of the more incredible. MOMENTS i can't say of my, career but it's one of the most incredible stories of my. Life we're at These Super bowl In New orleans And i'm With Sean soulisbury and he would always, say, oh who is The LAKER? Gm and then you, go, Well mitch Cup check and then he would hit you right in the. Nuts the boss. Yes so he would always be, saying and he would walk up to somebody unassuming it worked AT espn and go who is The LAKER, gm and they'd, go, Oh mitch Cup. Check, boom and he hit him right right in the. Nuts so we're at the Super bowl In New. ORLEANS i think it was The. Patriots we're playing in The Super bowl and lo and, Behold Mitch cupcheck walks into this. Bar it Was pat O'Brien's. Bar so we're outside AND i, Go, sean guess who just walked? In mitch cup. Check now he THOUGHT i was going to hit him below the, belt AND i was being, honestly, Said Mitch, cupcheck just walk through the. Door AND i, said you have to walk up to him and say who is The LAKER? Gm and then you have To mitch Cupcheck mitch cup check And deshaun's. Credit he walked up To Mitch cupcheck and ask. Him he was, like who who is The? Laker GM's that you know you're in, trouble and then all of a, sudden you, know he, goes, Uh mitch cup check, boom AND i, go oh my, god you just hit him in the Nuts mitch Cup.

00:40:14
Speaker 5: Check, sorry BUT i just COULD i have been waiting for like eleven, minutes so LIKE i got the best joke right, Now.

00:40:24
Speaker 2: LAKER, Gm Mitch. Mitch and then you would have like those knuckles right to that, tap, yeah and you would have these you know. PA's you, know these guys would be Like mitch Cup check like they wanted to know the, Answer mitch cup. Check mitch cup check of, course and Then sean with his big, paws would you, know smack him and they, go, wait what just happened? HERE hr would like to talk to You sean so, Much, Mitch mitch cup, check cup check. Boom we were easy entertained back. Then, uh back to the combine. Here Omar khan is The steeler gam and he was asked About Aaron. Rodgers the doors open and Have aaron.

00:41:14
Speaker 3: Back you know We've i've had conversations with.

00:41:16
Speaker 2: HIM i spoke to him last. Week. Uh you, Know mike McCarthy has spoke to, him and you, know he knows how we feel about. Him and you know it's right now we're. Proceeding you, know he's not he's a free agent and he's not on the, roster so but he knows how we feel about. Him, Okay, uh it feels like they're Taking Ty. SIMPSON i think most people think that The steelers Will i'm not going to say, reach but now they're gonna go get a quarterback here in the first. Round now they might bring Back Aaron. Rodgers and of course we're gonna have to let this play out all summer. Long is he coming? Back not coming? Back coming? Back not coming? Back the quarterback i'd like to be Is Malik, willis BECAUSE i THINK i Think willis is going to get a one of those three year one hundred million dollar, deals and maybe he gets the chance to start right. Away maybe he gets to go To miami and. Start Maybe pittsburgh brings him, in and he's obviously a more proven commodity than Ty, simpson and he's twenty six years of. Age, NOW i got kicked to the curb early By tennessee because then they went in and drafted the kid out Of kentucky Will. Levis, yeah that didn't. Go, well we'll leave, Us, yeah we'll leave us. Soon, yes, boy he didn't look like a. Quarterback he was, like, man, now that's that's how a quarterback looks like a C w. Quarterback, yes he just didn't play like a. Quarterback should he look like? One, Yeah.

00:42:44
Speaker 4: Paul in two years With Green, Bay Malik willis has three, starts six, touchdowns no, picks and he ran very.

00:42:50
Speaker 2: Well, yeah you, KNOW i don't know if this is A Jimmy garoppolo when you, Know brady was out and he stepped, in played three. Games then all of a, sudden everybody Wanted Jimmy. Garoppolo BUT i Like Malik. WILLIS i think HE'S i think he's the starter in the. League Kyler, murray you, know you're GONNA i don't Want Kyler, murray but if anybody's going to take, HIM i Want Kyler murray on aster. Turf you, KNOW i want him playing indoors and maybe maybe you could get to. Him but you, know he's made. Money he made his, money and you wonder what is his. Motivation with certain, players football comes easy or, easier and now the hard part when you're not the best player on the, field you're not the best quarterback on the, field and now you got to put in the. Work AND i don't know if he's willing to put in the. Work and you're, expensive because if he was all of these, things Then arizona would keep. Him everybody's looking for their franchise, quarterback and if you feel like he is your franchise, quarterback then you don't let him. Go but they know he's not their. Future, Yes, marvin what.

00:44:03
Speaker 3: About Malik willis to The?

00:44:05
Speaker 6: Vikings can you see that or are they still holding out hope ON jj.

00:44:10
Speaker 2: McCarthy i would not be holding out hope ON jj McCarthy because now you find out that they took away the middle of the field throws for. HIM i, mean come, on you got a great Arm i'm going to take away the middle of the. Field they had to probably reduce the playbook a little bit here he was throwing out to the. Numbers that's not a good sign. Less, yes, no we believe in.

00:44:39
Speaker 5: You we believe in, it just just don't throw it over the middle, here not in this general.

00:44:44
Speaker 2: Area so that would be a big. CONCERN i got a quarterback and he wasn't ready to, play and, look, okay everybody can revision his history and, say, boy they're stupid to move on From Sam darnold Or Danny. Dimes seattle didn't Want Sam. Donald they were, like why do why are we bringing In Sam? Darnald we Got Geno, smith you, know and then you bring him in he wins The Super. Bowl now the play The Sam donald game of who's The Sam donald for this year coming? Up but at the time we were, like, yeah big, games and he played horribly and they decided to move. On Danny dimes same. Thing when he played well with The, Colts they're, like, man they let him. Go they Let Sam donald. GO jj McCarthy just never felt like he was ready and it couldn't stay. Healthy do you bring In Kirk Cousins Kirk cousins is better Than MICHAEL Pennockx. Junior the. Third look at his numbers the last four. Games he had a couple of big, wins Didn't he Beat seattle and Beat. Tampa and he's healthier Than Michael. Pennix, now granted he's thirty, four but you spend one hundred million dollars on him and now you're going to kick him to the.
