00:00:30
Speaker 2: This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

00:00:34
Speaker 3: Now here's Matt Jones.

00:00:36
Speaker 4: Welcome every one, Kentucky Sports Radio. Monday, March the third. I met Jones here on a cold but sunny day in Louisville, Kentucky. We are all in different places. I guess I am in Louisville in the studio. Uh, Shannon is across the hall. I assume Ryan and Drew are in Lexington in the studio. And you give Sean the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line. That's eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. I'll be able to see the callers to make sure my favorites get on Shannon to keep you from trying to fool me. The A Vision Auto glass texta sheet is seven seven two four five two five four. In this diition sponsored by the t J. Smith Lovas called TJ You'll make them Pay. My little book says it is Eastern Orthodox Lent begins, which seems nice, and I hope you all are celebrating ryan tough weekend for the UK basketball team as they get kind of a beat down at home. But the good thing is we didn't even get to see the last twelve minutes of the game, so it's almost like it didn't happen.

00:01:36
Speaker 5: I'm almost glad that that technical difficulty happens so I didn't have to watch the last ten minutes because that was that was an ass whooping.

00:01:43
Speaker 6: I mean, they beat them down pretty good. Their dudes are just better than our dudes, you know.

00:01:46
Speaker 5: Overall, even though I think carn Imri both played pretty well, by big guys played pretty well, they just got better dudes than we got.

00:01:53
Speaker 4: That's what I heard. I don't know for sure if that happened, but you know, look I said on the postgame show, I think with our roster as it's currently constituted, we have a starting five that can compete for if not with everybody, almost everybody, But we just have such a huge drop off on the bench. We had five points come off the bench. That's it.

00:02:16
Speaker 7: Five.

00:02:17
Speaker 4: Uh, you're just not you know, you're not gonna win like that against the team as good as Auburn on a night they're playing well.

00:02:24
Speaker 8: No, Auburn had nearly thirty bench points. And speaking of the number thirty, it didn't help that their fourth or fifth best option gave you thirty points and hit nine three pointers. He doubled more than doubled UK and threes and had the two banked in back to back, which I think at that point we all know the banked in curse.

00:02:40
Speaker 4: We knew it was gonna be one of those games back banked in back to back. Let me and shant at that moment, game's over, right, back banked in back to back.

00:02:49
Speaker 2: Kentucky has got to lead the nation and allowing the most banked threes. I mean, it seems like every game somebody's banking in a three.

00:02:57
Speaker 4: And then to do it back to back, I mean, I'd like to know in the history of basketball right, how many times a dude is banked in back to back threes?

00:03:05
Speaker 2: I'll be back in like the nineteen twenties when they tried to do it, you know, it was like a set shot.

00:03:09
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, but no one tries to bank in a three. Yeah, I mean there wasn't a three, so that that couldn't happen. It was ridiculous. I mean, I think that made it like twenty one to eight, and I got up and went, well, don't have to worry about this one anymore. It kind of is what it is we do. For me, the most two things the most important coming out. Number one, why did the game go off the air? Because in the grand scheme of sports ran, how many times have you ever watched an event that just went completely off the air for a long time.

00:03:41
Speaker 5: Yeah, we've seen events that maybe go away for thirty seconds, maybe a minute, not when they're ten minutes, eleven minutes still on the clock.

00:03:49
Speaker 4: That was kind of I kept waiting for it to come back, and it never came back. It never came back, all right, So apparently there was a fire outside of the arena. I will tell you what happened for me. Drew the game goes off the air, you get the blue screen. I felt like, boy, these commercials are taking a long time. And then they came back and there were just two guys in the studio and they start talking about a different game, and I was like, well, that doesn't make any sense. And then I get a call that says, Matt, the area outside the TV truck is on fire and has burned through the production but don't say fire, but the game's probably not coming back on. And I was like, oh, so, I think I tweeted out something like breaking news, game may not come back on. There's an issue next to the production truck. Of course. Then Shannon Billy on the postgame show just goes, well, there was a fire outside, Like now, I guess, I guess later everybody else reported it, but did we ever know drew what the fire was and what kind of fire it was.

00:04:54
Speaker 6: I've got it.

00:04:55
Speaker 4: You've got it, scoop.

00:04:57
Speaker 6: You know, I got a pretty good connection.

00:04:58
Speaker 5: In the Fireworldvideo Services, they had caution tape around the generator and a load box which got caught in some fans and started a fire in the load box.

00:05:10
Speaker 4: What's the load box?

00:05:12
Speaker 5: That's like, uh, kind of well, ironically, I think it's supposed to help keep everything, keep everything from overheating.

00:05:20
Speaker 4: Oh wait a minute, So the the box that's in charge of not having fires caught on fire box cushion tape. Somebody's got to answer to this. But a cushion tape doesn't just randomly ignite like something had to set it off.

00:05:38
Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, if it was attached and wind blew it a loose and it.

00:05:42
Speaker 4: Gets in causes fire.

00:05:44
Speaker 5: Wind caused the tape to break loose, and then it gets in those fans that fan and just so.

00:05:50
Speaker 4: You think a fan. So you're saying the official explanation is that a fan tape blew into a fan and it ignited a fire.

00:06:00
Speaker 6: That's what happened in my house.

00:06:01
Speaker 5: The refrigerator exhaust vent caught fire, but not because of tape. Well no, but it was a paper, There was paper around it. It just dries out and somehow sparks.

00:06:11
Speaker 2: Wow, is easy to start afing. I can never start a fire like when I'm trying to.

00:06:16
Speaker 3: Yeah, but then that's it's.

00:06:18
Speaker 4: A lighter that gives fire and I can't get it to light candles. And you're telling me that just paper into a fan can cause a fire, that's what That's what happened. Well, I think we need a new load box, Drew, because clearly that one's not keeping the fire load away.

00:06:34
Speaker 8: A rough start for the first ABC game, and however long it was all the excitement Bill is in the house and then most of the second half you don't even get to see.

00:06:42
Speaker 4: So here's what I want to say, what do we think happened? Shannon? If that game was close? Like what if it was again number one team in RUP and it was a two point game with like four minutes ago and we weren't able to see it? Do you think this? I mean, what happened?

00:06:58
Speaker 3: There'd be more fires, that's would be exploding.

00:07:01
Speaker 4: It would have been it would have been a crazy scene. I think at one point Drew did that. Did Kentucky cut it to like nine or eight or some point after that? Did they cut it a little bit? Uh?

00:07:14
Speaker 8: I think to ten or eleven? I don't know if he got the single digits. Andrew Carr went on a little mini run. I think he had nine straight points by himself. They got a few stops, I don't know. They got ruppery in a very confident but at least kept people in ten.

00:07:27
Speaker 4: I did see it when it got that point, and Shannon and I was thinking, Man, if they make a run here and then we're not watching what happens at that point, do people like try to storm into the gym like like it could have been one of the mystery games of all time with none of us watching it.

00:07:45
Speaker 2: Yeah, everybody listening to Tom and Jack. That's the only way you could get it right. So apparently normally networks will use like UK's feed for these games, but ABC wanted to use their own. Oh so they one of their own loads. Well that's what Tom was telling me. Okay here, So apparently that's what happened.

00:08:04
Speaker 4: Well, it didn't work.

00:08:05
Speaker 3: We had one job.

00:08:06
Speaker 4: We have one job. Don't catch on fire. And then they did. There was a guy in the stands, Ryan, who just started filming it from the stands, and I think at one point he had like twenty four thousand people on his stream. Holy col Yeah, he had more people watching his cell phone than most television shows do in this area. Mario asked me if he could do it, and I said, like, we're gonna get in trouble. What's the point of like getting in trouble for a get. But if it had gotten close, Drew, I was gonna tell Mario to start filming.

00:08:38
Speaker 8: Oh, my Twitter blew up with people begging me to go live, and I understand Jmi would have had a sniper on the roof take me out if I had just picked up my phone during those few minutes. So that was a big no no. But we tried our best with the live blog. I even had someone text me from Jack Dempsey's in New York that said, people are trying to put the live blog onto the TVs at the bar in New York.

00:08:57
Speaker 4: Because they couldn't see the game. That would have been right, though. If the game had been close, I would have told you all to do it, I would have said, I would have said, Shannon, look, if Jami wants to get mad at us having the only film of a game that's not otherwise on, then they can get mad exactly.

00:09:12
Speaker 3: Yeah, at that point, I think it would be worth it.

00:09:14
Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it would have been worth it if the game was close. But it never got close. So Jackson Robinson, after the game was over, it's announced he's out for the year. If you listen to the pregame show, that was kind of what it sounded like was gonna happen. He was going to go to another specialist this week, but apparently he's been to like three. They were gonna try one more. I guess the decision ended up being not to do that. He has to have surgery. You know, it's a it's a big blow. I don't think I don't think it's like, you know, a killer blow, like you can't overcome it. But I do think it takes away Ryan the ceiling of the team, Like the ceiling of the team is not as high as it was otherwise. I totally agree with you.

00:10:00
Speaker 5: You know, we all said when he first got hired, we hope he makes it to the second weekend. Well now I'm back to where I was then, Like, man, if they can just find a way just to get to the second weekend this sweek sixteen, I think I behave.

00:10:12
Speaker 6: That's a big blow, man.

00:10:13
Speaker 5: He not only meant a lot on the court, he meant a lot off the court.

00:10:16
Speaker 6: Because he knew he'd already played for Pope for two years.

00:10:18
Speaker 5: He kind of knew how to handle and what was coming up and kind of helped I think the rest of the guys in the locker room, why.

00:10:23
Speaker 4: Do you think, Drew, I have a lot of fans writing on the text machine, and everybody keeps saying that second weekend, second weekend? Why do you think that is such a is it a mental thing just because we haven't done it in a few years? Like why do you think people are, well, we've got to get to the second weekend. I mean, I'd love to see us get to the final weekend, But why do you think that second weekend is such a thing to people? Because I keep hearing that over and over.

00:10:53
Speaker 8: I think you said, it's just been so long since we've been there, and with all the excitement of beating so many top twenty five teams this year, kind of feel like it's possible. I think it's the same way with people saying, just win a game in Nashville, Like, yeah, no one's really saying that, I have a bar. It's just that's how bad it's been lately. We just want to go a little bit further and give Pope on the right track.

00:11:12
Speaker 4: Let's talk about the Nashville situation. So Vandy, how did they win that game? Should I know? But they shouldn't have. I mean Missouri was up three and got fouled I think, and had two free throws basically to put Away made one. Then Vandy comes down or was that was a Tennessee game?

00:11:32
Speaker 3: What was I think you're talking about Tennessee?

00:11:34
Speaker 4: The Tennessee game. Tennessee was down four and still ended up winning. Vandy won in overtime. But Missouri should have won that game. But Vandy winning. Now there's a three way tie for eighth place. We hold the tiebreaker for a variety of reasons, but basically the way I the way I sort of perceive it is if we win both, If we win both games, if we win LSU and Missouri, I think we have a chance to be higher than the eight. We can get up to a seven or the six seed. I think the six is actually where we would go if we end up winning both games. If we win one, the eight seed is most likely. But we need Mississippi State to lose a game, and they have two very winnable games, and then if you lose both games, then we're playing on Wednesday. That's kind of how I look at it. So Ryan, It's almost like it's right in front of them. Beat LSU and then you set up a game with Missouri where you could end up like the sixth seed, or if Mississippi State wins both games, you could end up playing on Wednesday. A lot would be on the line in Colombia.

00:12:37
Speaker 5: And I think it's you've got to take that attitude, right because, like you said, Misssippi State's there remaining two games are favorable for them.

00:12:43
Speaker 4: They play what is it Texas and then at Arkansas? Is that? Is that what they do?

00:12:49
Speaker 6: So you got to think they're gonna be favored in both of those.

00:12:52
Speaker 4: The Arkitas game, they may not be favored. I'm not sure, but either way, the point being like they can win both those games. Yeah, so that's all you got for me.

00:13:04
Speaker 5: Well that's what I said. I mean, I think Mississippi State's gonna win them.

00:13:07
Speaker 4: But just gave me a yeah, SA gave me a yeah.

00:13:10
Speaker 6: Yeah.

00:13:12
Speaker 8: If we end up in a three way tie with Vannie Misissippi State, we can end up to ten even going one on one because in a three way the way they round robin it with those teams.

00:13:21
Speaker 4: That we would be third? Are we right now? Because that's unlikely? But it's but I don't think that's right because all three of those teams, all three of those game teams. We're tied now and the SEC still has this projected eight. So what would change. Well, if it's a.

00:13:39
Speaker 8: Three way tie, then it goes to the round robin and they will have to get there. They will have beaten When you combine all the teams in the round robin, they will have beaten more. And then the tiebreaker goes down to I look this up earlier.

00:13:48
Speaker 4: But then it goes to like, but that's what it is already, and they have us like like the three games between these teams are already done, and the SEC has us as the eight right now like.

00:14:00
Speaker 8: That, But then it goes to your record against like the top team. It was this long process of how this works. I mean it's a long shot, but it it is possible. And then it goes if it's all the same, then it goes to your order against one, two, three, four. Okay, Well if it's if it's a four way tie, I think we're the eight, so that we'd almost rather have a four way tie than a three way tie.

00:14:21
Speaker 4: Well, either way, if we can, uh, if we can, the key is to to beat L s U and then see what happens with Missouri. Mississippi State's two games are they host Texas and go to Arkansas. So we might find ourselves shitting in the final week rooting for for John Calipinia.

00:14:35
Speaker 2: Oh no, we don't want to be in that situation, especially with them putting up what fourteen points and.

00:14:39
Speaker 4: Oh my goodness, what a disas. And Arkansas plays at Vandy Tuesday nine as well, So you got that that, you got that ahead. So Arkansas plays the two teams right now, we're tied with Arkansas Mississippi State Vas. We didn't have to cheer. But the problem is if Arkansas it doesn't matters too much to go on. But if you go to and oh, Kentucky has a decent chance to get out of the eighth seed and actually have a path where they could do something indext but you're gonna have to go too and oh for that time a f I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven text machine is seven seven two four five two five four A disappointing Saturday. Are you done or do you still think this team can make a run. That's what I want to know. If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. You can call or on the text machine. I want to know, do you still think we can make a run? I do. I'll tell you why, But what about you? We'll be right back to Skazar. Okay, So this is uh, let me think of what the name of this group is one hound game?

00:15:41
Speaker 3: There you go. Yes, they had this one in the Bad Touch.

00:15:44
Speaker 4: Yeah. Are they playing?

00:15:46
Speaker 9: Uh?

00:15:47
Speaker 4: Larger than life? They feel like a larger than live fan.

00:15:50
Speaker 3: Louder than life? No, they're not.

00:15:51
Speaker 4: Okay, all right, so people electricians are riding in. So that's a great thing about the show. There's somebody that does everything I could say any job, and somebody that listened to this show does it. We've had multiple electricians right in this one, says Matt. As with most things with Ryan, he's kind of correct, but not totally. It's likely the paper stalled the fan out. The current then increased as it continued to try to make the fan move, but it couldn't. The locked rotor then caused the fire. That is that what you meant? Ryan? Makes sense?

00:16:25
Speaker 5: All start off with some tape getting stuck in her low box. That does exactly word for word with Ryan exactly? Is that I don't know what you heard. Yeah, was that exactly word for word? What you what you said?

00:16:36
Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, exactly.

00:16:38
Speaker 4: I didn't take that as a word for word. But uh, but you know, if you say so, why wouldn't it. I'm gonna give my real quick take a why Drew. I think UK still still in it. Their ceiling is certainly down, and I do think it's going to be very hard for us to beat an Auburn or a Duke. But beyond that, we have the offense still to score mid to high eighties, and I do think you get a game where guys get hot, we can be in it. Our problem against Auburn we went down twenty one to eight basically because we went to our bench and our bench can't handle it. That was thirteen point difference. We end up losing by sixteen. If you don't have that period, maybe it's competitive at the end. I still feel like against most teams with Butler, they have enough if they roll with the starters, they have enough to stay in these games and give them a shot. It may be hard against an Auburn, a Duke, or even a Florida, but I do think they can still beat anybody. I also think the amount of teams that can beat us now has grown to where every game is going to be tough.

00:17:48
Speaker 8: Definitely, we mentioned it before we knew Robinson's out for the year. We were just talking about it if he didn't play against Auburn. But your bench has to step up, and they absolutely did not step up on Saturday. Also, you know, I feel like we said every week, you gotta take more threes, and it seemed like the game plan against Auburn was to drive, and there was a stretch in the second half where it's like they forgot how to dribble. They started the second half with six turnovers and zero shot attempts.

00:18:11
Speaker 4: That's outrageous for a basketball game. Yeah, this is the first time all year I didn't really understand what Pope's game plan.

00:18:18
Speaker 10: Was.

00:18:20
Speaker 4: My number one question to Pope when the year's over, is gonna go Ryan, What happened to the thirty five threes we were gonna take exactly? Because that just went away? And I know part of it is they extend their defense out, et cetera. But we only took seventeen, and that just we're not gonna win unless we take double that.

00:18:39
Speaker 5: And I think we've got a couple of guys that can't create that space to get the three off. They've got to have a lot of help, and they're not getting it. So I think I'm having trouble just getting a shit getting a shot off.

00:18:49
Speaker 4: Yes, period, we're ivan. I think that's Any time Shannon, I see one of these dudes hesitating that can shoot threes, I'm like, what are you doing? Yeah, you think we're gonna get a better shot in ten seconds firing?

00:19:00
Speaker 2: Let it fly, Let it fly. We got guys that can knock it down. But Ryan's right, I mean, you're I guess, just relying on coming off a screen every time to get an open.

00:19:09
Speaker 3: Look, you got to be able to create.

00:19:10
Speaker 4: You're not gonna beat Auburn making four threes, so you got it. Look, let's say we took thirty, we make eight, and then maybe it's a it's a competitive game, like you just got to take more. We have to and branded up with four.

00:19:24
Speaker 8: But I mean Kentucky had won three for like twenty five to thirty minutes of the game. It got to where the offense was so stagnant he just pulled from deep onto him. Luckily he made him. But it's like the three point three pointers didn't exist for most of that game, so it was already over with Judy and Mount Sterling.

00:19:40
Speaker 4: What's up, Judy?

00:19:42
Speaker 10: Hey, well, I'll say I'm kind of happy I missed the game because we were on our way back from Mexico.

00:19:49
Speaker 6: Oh wow, we're going too.

00:19:53
Speaker 10: I don't want to be a number eight seed. And then had to play Auburn when the first game and had to play Auburn's second game. But the other one I'm sad. I just want to say, is Matt. I just I read The Wager while I was down in Mexico.

00:20:08
Speaker 11: Okay, and it's more more of a man book.

00:20:12
Speaker 10: Yeah, but you know there's some gruesome stuff in it, but because it was a true story, it was absolutely amazing.

00:20:18
Speaker 4: Well good, if you want a woman book, would you like a woman book in return? Judy? Well, no, like, oh, you want men books. Okay, you want men books. You don't want me to give you a woman book.

00:20:33
Speaker 10: I don't want I don't like romance, Okay, but.

00:20:36
Speaker 4: I'm not saying romance, just one about Like, well, so, so you said it was kind of a man book. You just want all man books?

00:20:45
Speaker 12: No?

00:20:45
Speaker 10: No, no, no, no no, it was just a little gruesome at times reading that book.

00:20:49
Speaker 4: Yeah, it is a little grouse, Judy. I'm gonna give you another one to read. I'm gonna give you another one. Read Bell B E L Conto c A N t O. It's a good of man and woman. How about that? B L Bell B L Conto c A N t O. It's like about there's a there's there's there's some there's some murdery stuff, but then there's also some some some women stuff. You go, you go with that, all.

00:21:18
Speaker 10: Right, dude's great, I got it written down.

00:21:20
Speaker 4: Appreciate it. She doesn't want any romance. Get that romance out of here with you exactly. She doesn't need a man. She's like, forget that.

00:21:27
Speaker 2: I have to listen to the audiobook around my house out loud of romance books and it's really uncomfortable.

00:21:34
Speaker 4: Yeah. First of all, women are on this, kig.

00:21:36
Speaker 3: I don't understand it.

00:21:37
Speaker 4: Have you seen Barnes and Noble is opening drough sixty new stores. And when I was was, I was like, well that's a little surprising. Why And it said it's all because of like fantasy smut. It's all because of like women reading fantasy novels where like vampires, they all have have sex with each other.

00:21:58
Speaker 2: It's audio porn, no it is. And I get in her car and it's on, and I'm going, what in the world are you.

00:22:03
Speaker 9: Ask me to?

00:22:03
Speaker 4: I have these two female friends and that's all they do. And we'll go to dinner, the three of us, and they just talk about these like books about fairies who are in love with were wolves and like.

00:22:15
Speaker 3: And the last one she had was The Lockness Monster.

00:22:17
Speaker 4: Yeah, and they love they love it. And apparently it's like rebirthing bookstores because they like to come in there and like skim through and see. It's crazy.

00:22:31
Speaker 8: I actually read a story about this, because you know, Barnes and Noble is going the wrong direction and they credit their resurgence all to TikTok and they're gonna put TikTok areas in their stores and they call it book talk and that's where women are sharing these But Barns and Noble has admitted we were on our way down until TikTok.

00:22:47
Speaker 4: But it's it's this smut. It's like fantasy smut with like crawdads making out with sharks, like that's what it is.

00:22:56
Speaker 3: The other one was called like I bang the moth Man.

00:22:58
Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't believe. We'll take a break right back. He'll make them pay.

00:23:06
Speaker 2: Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio present it by Stockton Mortgage.

00:23:10
Speaker 3: Here's Matt Jones.

00:23:11
Speaker 4: It's called Shannon fantasy or fairy smut.

00:23:15
Speaker 3: Okay, well I'm hearing a lot of that around the house.

00:23:17
Speaker 4: So your your girlfriend just walks around and just plays it like over the Yeah, that's going to be weird.

00:23:24
Speaker 3: I need to hear that.

00:23:25
Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, I'm telling you. These two women I know, like that's all they talk about, and they read like three books a day or not not a day, excuse me, like three books a week or something of it. It's crazy.

00:23:35
Speaker 3: Okay, I need your rolling on something.

00:23:36
Speaker 4: Yeah.

00:23:36
Speaker 3: If you listen to an audiobook, no.

00:23:39
Speaker 4: No, okay, that's a podcast. An audiobook is not reading.

00:23:44
Speaker 3: I read books.

00:23:45
Speaker 4: It's not reading. It's not reading. No it is. I'm not saying it's not valuable, but it's not reading. Reading is using your eyes and it in thinking or braille or whatever, you know what I mean. Like, it's not audio is different because you can kind of tune in and out.

00:24:01
Speaker 3: That's right. To read.

00:24:03
Speaker 4: You gotta read so no, it's not reading. It's still valuable, but Ryan, it's not the same as reading.

00:24:09
Speaker 6: Yeah, I tune out when I'm reading.

00:24:11
Speaker 4: What do you mean you tune out when you're reading? How do you do that?

00:24:15
Speaker 5: My d D just takes off and I'm like, what did I just read two pages?

00:24:19
Speaker 6: Have no idea what I just read?

00:24:20
Speaker 4: But you didn't read it if you didn't process it.

00:24:22
Speaker 6: Yeah, there's no processing going on.

00:24:24
Speaker 4: Sometimes I'll do both with the same book. Yeah, I'm sorry that the hours you are reading or listening, it's fine, but it's like it's a podcast. It's not reading. If you do it like that.

00:24:36
Speaker 3: Out towards book, it like if you no, you know.

00:24:39
Speaker 4: I mean I did an audio book with Mitch Please, and I actually think it's very entertaining because Chris and I did different voices and we got some people that were in the book to come and actually voice their own part. But it's also like it's like an entertainment thing, Shane, and it's not reading. It's like, uh, it's an audio experience exactly.

00:24:56
Speaker 2: It's like listening to this show. Right, that's exactly right, the same as reading a book.

00:25:00
Speaker 4: One person, Right's mad I watched the games, and I yell at the television shoot it at least ten times a game. I'm the same way Drew, And like I know, teams are arranging their defense to try to keep us from shooting threes. I get that, but we still pass up open ones. And I'll never understand why I yelled shoot it at car Brea and Butler. I probably yelled at ten times Saturday against Oliburn and Brea, who should be the quickest trigger on the team. He's still hesitating a little bit. In the second half, there was a play where he was open for three and then he went to drive and then kind of backpedaled to take the threes. Like the moment you have to have a window launch it. Take That play drove me crazy. Shoot instead, he goes up two feet, comes back and shoot. Just shoot. It's the best we're gonna get against a team like Alburn.

00:25:48
Speaker 8: Early in the second half, I genuinely thought they'd be better off pulling up from half court when they were dribbling off their feet and they were driving and throwing it off the backboard to nothing.

00:25:56
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm rich. Was so it was bad. That's stretch, it started to say, and half we needed the TV to go out. Couldn't it couldn't make a simple pass. It was brutal. Steve, go ahead, Steve, Hey, guys, what's up.

00:26:11
Speaker 7: I would love to see our shooters plant coming around that screen and going straight up for the shot instead of taking one dribble a defense catchup chances of either making a shot or getting fouled, or a whole lot better than making that one dribble and looking for something else.

00:26:28
Speaker 4: Well, they take that dribble for space. But I'm with you. If you think about a lot of the times we've fouled on a three, it's because as soon as they hand off on that pick, they immediately go up and the guy fighting through the pick ends up. He almost can't help but landing on you. That was the foul. That was the foul that either Brayer or oh oh way, oh way, when he filed on the three, that was what it is. He was fighting for the screen. He didn't probably even see the guy jump to shoot, but because he was fighting through, he was there, he couldn't stop. He landed on him. We should do that. That's actually seemingly a pretty good way to draw fout.

00:27:03
Speaker 7: Wasn't that one of Monk's specialties was planting that lift footed.

00:27:06
Speaker 4: Monk was really good. Yeah, Monk was really good at that, and he also would kind of lean into it. Monk would have loved to play Ryan in the way they call three fouls now, because like guys, he loved to lean into guys on threes.

00:27:20
Speaker 5: Yeah, and he could jump so high he could get the foul and still get.

00:27:23
Speaker 4: You're exactly right, right, I appreciate the call. Ryan's right. He could jump so high it would give somebody in time to get under him for him to land on him. He Monk would really excel in the way they call that three point foul now. Bluegrass go ahead, all right, fellows.

00:27:40
Speaker 11: I think right here where I'm an, I'm kind of a little bit torn. As much as we do love Jackson and how when you have a couple of shooters, you know, it keeps you from having to slack off and they can help. But if I ask you all, what position could we probably go down and be the best.

00:27:57
Speaker 4: You would you would think of of the of the starting five, which Brea came off the bench. There is an argument that why I do think Robinson might be the best of that group, He's probably the one we could afford to lose the most because those other guys, their replacements are such a huge step down. And in theory, your replacement for Robinson can be Brey.

00:28:21
Speaker 11: Exactly. And I'm not sure if we need to play I don't know. We can't defend if we do this the car at the five and then we take Williams out of the game.

00:28:30
Speaker 4: Yeah, you're doing that.

00:28:31
Speaker 11: I don't know. I think yeah, I think we're just gonna have to Well, I guess we're turning into a high low team now with Oway off the dribble.

00:28:40
Speaker 4: Well, I think that's part that's important. I appreciate the call. I mean, Drew, it's important to rise. We got nothing from Oway. I mean Oway was in foul trouble. You know, he was kind of it never looked like he was totally in that game. And so then you don't have Robinson and you get nothing from Oway. If he has his normal game, it's probably more competitive.

00:29:00
Speaker 8: Yeah, Auburn's so good. I mean, they had the stat that from Ken Palm they're the best team since twenty fifteen UK and the analytics. So if you're playing that team and Oway has four points and your team has four or three pointers. There's not really any scenario.

00:29:12
Speaker 4: Over your head. And you have eighteen turnover numbers. Yeah, and eighteen turnovers.

00:29:16
Speaker 8: And some of those turnovers that we mentioned the first in the first part of the second half, they were unforced. There's like no pressure and they just threw it away. I mean it was like, what in the heck are you doing? You just threw it out of bounds for no reason.

00:29:28
Speaker 5: There's a point there in the radio broadcast for Jack Gibbons, the number one supporter and share of this team, said they look like they don't even know what they're doing.

00:29:35
Speaker 4: They did, though, they did look like they don't know what they're doing. Now, did you see what FanDuel tweeted out, Shannon I did?

00:29:43
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I did see.

00:29:44
Speaker 4: First of all, this is why we're a DraftKings show in state. FanDuel said something like it's Pope going to even get it done or something or what.

00:29:52
Speaker 3: Was the what they said? It was it a mistake?

00:29:54
Speaker 4: Was it a mistake? Yeah, good way to build up your core there, Fandel. But I have to tell you, I don't get I do not understand how fans and I don't think there are many doing this. I think it's a very small number, But I don't know how there are fans that like just don't believe in Pope based on anything. I mean, he put together the team in a month. They've got great wins as as Pope confirmed. They're four and three against the top five this year, which is pretty amazing. Now, have they been perfect? No? Can I say with one hundred percent certainty Pope's gonna crush it here? No? But how could you Ryan say with one hundred percent certainty he won't work like like he's done. I think maybe not an A plus job, but an A to a minus job, wouldn't you think? Yes?

00:30:53
Speaker 5: And I think I would like to ask those guys if they if we told them what was gonna happen before the season, are they probably would take it? First year throwing to get at the last minute, you beat Duke Louisville, Tennessee, Gonzaga, You're gonna take that. You're gonna take the season that they're having right now because you're still gonna get in the NCAA Tournament. You still got a chance to win a couple of games in March. And I think most people would take that.

00:31:13
Speaker 4: And imagine Shandon if we had had with Cal the game he had at South Carolina, say, oh my god, no, twenty points within thirty minutes.

00:31:21
Speaker 3: We would fire him at halftime.

00:31:23
Speaker 4: I mean, can you imagine he said there were twenty points with eleven and a half minutes to go.

00:31:27
Speaker 3: I saw that, and I go, that can't be real.

00:31:30
Speaker 4: That can that cannot be fourteen points at halftime.

00:31:33
Speaker 6: That's insane.

00:31:34
Speaker 8: He's owing three against Lamont Paris, Lamont Paris. I saw South Carolina six and five in their last eleven games against Cal, and they've been and they've been really bad during those times as well. Robbie, go ahead and report there was a report this morning that a bruiser might be leaving too so because someone else jumping off the ship.

00:31:55
Speaker 4: Well, I mean that's one they could lose, right, Robbie, go ahead.

00:31:59
Speaker 9: Good morning, Yeah, good morning guys. I had a couple of things. Uh yeah, I mean to your question, I think we can make a little run. I mean, we got to get some production out of events. We got to start getting some calls because these phantom calls that were getting.

00:32:13
Speaker 4: On threes or well, I will note they called more foul, like seven more fouls on our on Auburn than they did us. I mean again, they were calls that frustrated me. But we have to stop acting like we're the most aggrieved. I mean, they called a lot of fouls on Auburn. Most of our points in the first half came from free throws, right.

00:32:33
Speaker 9: Right, I understand that. But one other thing before and I hang up and listen, was is I know y'all probably seen it, and I think it's one of the most disrespectful things the Auburn players with the belt out on floor.

00:32:45
Speaker 4: Well, let's talk about that. I will save that for after the break, all right, because I think that's I'm glad you brought that up. I appreciate the call. We'll come back to that. If you want to score big in the NBA this season, and you want a sports betting partner that doesn't make fun of our basketball team, then how about draft kings from monster slams to dishing the dunk. They're not asked out there asking if hiring Pope's a mistake. They're giving you a chance to make money and you can use my CODEKSR bet five get one hundred and fifty dollars in bonus bets only at draft Kings. Don't listen to the competitor out there crowing. They're all Louisville fans. Anyway, go to Draft Kings. The crown is yours. If you have a game, probably called one a game bere eighteen plus Kentucky only the lgebly strict supply and new customers only. Bonuspits by one hundred sixty eight hours after issue, it was traditional term responsible gaming resource ceedkng, dot co, slash audio. I do want to thank FanDuel for that because it led to the CEO of DraftKings writing me Ryan and saying, hey, we need to talk about a renewal after these people.

00:33:41
Speaker 6: Keep Yeah, thank you DraftKings.

00:33:44
Speaker 4: Ye yeah, well, thank you FanDuel for the stupid tweet. We'll be right backsr welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. I have to say the two most popular topics on the text machine, Shannon are we should shoot more threes and those fairy books.

00:34:00
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, Judy called back.

00:34:02
Speaker 4: By the way.

00:34:02
Speaker 2: She wanted me to tell you that she is she likes romance, She just doesn't like romance books.

00:34:06
Speaker 3: She wants to clarify that.

00:34:07
Speaker 4: All right, well, Judy, I think you'll like bel conto, Yeah, I do. Oh A lot of you are saying, and I get this that like there are various like reasons somebody would listen to books instead of reading, including like physical or issues or something. And you're that You're exactly right. That's a very fair point. I'm not trying to say that one is better than the other. Maybe it is for me, but that's may not be true for everybody else. So that's a very fair point. One person writes, mat, I listened to your audiobook. I actually thought it was better than reading it because you and Tomlin made funny voices. That's true. Shit, we did. We did make funny Tomlin. I mean Tomlin. You got to hear his voice when he did all of his footnotes and stuff.

00:34:48
Speaker 3: I would rather somebody read me the book. Then you have to read it myself.

00:34:51
Speaker 4: Oh you would, like do you think you have the patience though, to sit there and listen to someone read it to you?

00:34:56
Speaker 2: I mean, like if I'm doing other things, like that's the good thing about an audiobook, like I can you know.

00:34:59
Speaker 4: Do and in the car. The other thing is in the car, right, like going down the highway. Yeah, I like to have physical copies partially because I like having a library and all that. But I can see that Ryan, you and I have listened to podcasts on our road trips that could be books. They're like eight hours long. It's just they call them a podcast.

00:35:18
Speaker 5: It's almost like, yeah, somebody's reading the book to us. That put a couple of podcasts we've listened to. So yeah, I think that's the That's the best scenario for me is to do it, be able to do it in the car.

00:35:25
Speaker 8: I read a book at home, and if I have a long drive, like say Nashville, I will then get some chapters on audio and kind of do a little bit of both.

00:35:33
Speaker 4: Makes sense, makes sense. One person writes, true, you're gonna like this, Matt. My wife listens to all those books that you're talking about, like Shannon, she keeps them turned on. It gets her all worked up, so she'll be hitting, she'll be reading or hearing about a werewolf going after a faery, and then all that's left is me and I end up getting the benefits. It never helps the marriage. There you go. I'm telling you my two friends, like they'll sit there, we the three of us will go to dinner and they just talk about it, and they'll be like, oh did you read and blah blah blah, oh Darren, Oh my good, and then they just get the chanting. It just they get worked up right sitting there because they've talked about a book they read two weeks ago.

00:36:16
Speaker 3: I gotta go buy me a werewolf mask.

00:36:18
Speaker 4: You you think that'll help? Yeah? Good. By the way, the Outrunners, I don't know what made me think of that, but the Outrunners team won the summit outright, and they beat up a trash can again. They beat up the trash can again.

00:36:30
Speaker 3: That is awesome. I saw Shallow Thursday at OVW. I told him that. You give him a shout out. You appreciate it.

00:36:36
Speaker 4: Yeah, not just here on ESPN too. All right, let's talk about the belt thing, Drew. So, if you saw the video after the game two Arkansas racuse me Auburn players pull out pull out belts and they start smacking the ground to make it look like they were kind of beating the ass of the Kentucky players. You know, it was on the it was on our court. A lot of people got upset about that. What was your take on it?

00:37:02
Speaker 8: My take is, if anyone on this basketball team has an ounce of fight in them. They will come out and whoop LSU because they should see that and be furious, not only that they got killed for thirty nine minutes in Rupperena. It's a better team that kind of happens. But to just get mocked like that on your own floor, they better be angry and motivated to come out and do something special tomorrow night.

00:37:23
Speaker 4: If not, don't.

00:37:24
Speaker 8: I don't know if they got the dog in them, to be honest, because that should have set them off.

00:37:28
Speaker 5: Ryan, Yeah, you can do whatever you want in the locker room, and they did. They were celebrating and rapping and all kinds of stuff in the locker and they fine, go ahead and do that on the court.

00:37:38
Speaker 4: Man, you do like that, you better be ready, don't, don't you know.

00:37:41
Speaker 6: I hope our UK player, like Drew said, don't forget that.

00:37:43
Speaker 4: That was completely disrespectful and they need to remember that. You sound you sound very offended by it. I mean, I think you know most athletes know. You just don't do that well.

00:37:53
Speaker 5: Like we had this argument, not argument, we had a discussion one time, like I don't like when football players try to plant their flag in the middle of an opposing team field. I think it's just a little of respect. You got a half of your opponent. Take it back to the locker room. Do whatever you want, but don't do it out there on rocks.

00:38:06
Speaker 4: Interesting, Shennon. They're both more upset than I was. I kind of took the view. I felt the same way about flag planning, like beat them.

00:38:16
Speaker 3: You already know my take. You already know what I'm gonna say.

00:38:18
Speaker 4: You're gonna say the same thing, right if you don't like it, stop it.

00:38:21
Speaker 3: Beat them?

00:38:21
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I beat them. I just I mean, we talked. We've never pulled out a belt, but we've done ELL's Down and we've done yelling at the fans in the stands. We love those moments. How what's different Ryan about ELL's Down walking up to the students in the Louisville game and taking out the belt because we lost. I have no problem as you're consistent fair enough, I have no problem with them doing it, have had. I don't care.

00:38:56
Speaker 8: In fact they earned it. I'm saying, if I play for Kentucky and I just watched that, I'm coming out on fire to and if the players don't, then they're pretty What if we.

00:39:06
Speaker 4: Play Auburn in the SEC.

00:39:07
Speaker 8: Exactly, you should throw the first not a literal punch, but if you get Auburn again, you better come out like you're on fire. After watching that, I have no problem with Alburt. They definitely that should motivate you and they definitely should show that in the locker room. And even I don't think ABC did any favors shedded to Pope by showing Pope's pregame speech versus Pearls, because even though they Popes, it just didn't look the same. Now that's that could be editing, which was unfair to Pope.

00:39:36
Speaker 4: But Pearls, like these dudes, did they show up every night? No, we did? You know it was? It didn't look great. Brock, go ahead, Brock.

00:39:47
Speaker 12: Talking about going on a run. While there's technically no rule against it, they seem to try to make it to where at least if you're on the top four seed lines, you're not going to play anybody in your conference until the week eight. And since we're on the three four line, that matches us up with Duke Houston, Iowa State, and Michigan State. Turns going on a run, you know, beat the team just supposed to be beat one of those four.

00:40:13
Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm I'm actually not bad. I'm with you on that. They they don't want to put teams against each other until the Elite eight. I think I'd rather play Duke Houston, Iowa State, and Michigan State overplaying these SEC teams brought.

00:40:29
Speaker 12: Absolutely, Yeah, and that's just what it's gonna end up being. And honestly, I think the life of scenario is we're the three seed in Auburn or Alabama's region and the two seed is Michigan State Iowa State. And honestly hope the four seed beats Alburn. That'd be great.

00:40:46
Speaker 4: You're exactly right now. We got to get to the three seed, and I appreciate the call. I now think to get to the three seed, Drew, we probably got to win at Missouri, Not certainly, but I think it would. I think if we were to finish two and zero, here's what I do think. Finish two and oh, I think we'll be a three seed, and I think we'll be paired up with either Michigan State or Iowa State, and I'll take it. I think that's the best scenario. I think when they go to Columbia, you have to sit there and think, would you rather play Duke or Houston in the sweet sixteen, or would you rather play Iowa State or Michigan State. All right, if you want to play i With State or Michigan State, you gotta go win that Missouri.

00:41:23
Speaker 8: Yeah, and I think it's got to if you're going LSU. If you go win that one, it's I don't know that's gonna help you too much because right now they're the last four seed in Lunardies. That's not gonna make you jumping off. So if you want to get a three, you gotta go too. And oh, I thought that they fell pretty far even just losing to Auburn, to the last number four seed, at least in Leonardes's eyes. But you gotta get Missouri to get It's a first four seed, right they're the third ten theme as the last. Oh I'm sorry, well then I read it wrong. Regardless. Uh, just beating LSU will not move you up a line. All right, there you go eight, five, nine, two, eighth, twenty two eighty.

00:41:53
Speaker 4: I just I don't. I mean, look, Houston's really good, Duke's really good. But I'd rather play them than play all And I'd rather them, play them than play Florida, And honestly, Ryan rather play them than play Alabama, wouldn't you.

00:42:06
Speaker 5: I was gonna say, yeah, give me those other non SEC teams. We've seen what SEC teams can do.

00:42:10
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, our problem's gonna be scoring enough points and I don't want to play these teams that are gonna score eighty five no matter what. Well, take a break. I have a really good clip to play. At least I think it's a really good playoff. Right after this, KSR
