Phillies sweep the Mariners in a series unlike any Ruben, you've been watching the Phillies since you were a wee little lad boy, and you've never seen a series quite like this. Just offensively, yeah, offensively, pitching wise, everything. They run through a couple numbers real quick. They outscored them twenty nine to thirteen. They out hit them forty eight to twenty one, according to a Live Sports Bureau first time. The Phillies have had three straight starts of double digit strikeouts since at least eighteen ninety three back then. What were they even throwing back in eighteen ninety three, though, right, you know who knews what they were even?

Most Phillies hits in a three game series since July second to July fourth, nineteen ninety nine against the Cubs at the VET.

And the offense was absolutely fantastic, And let's let's talk about this offense and what's kind of going on with some of the hitters in the Park's First Pitch. You know, I see these stats, Oh there's their their record is such and such. When somebody somebody hits a home run, your record's always going to be better when somebody hits a home run. So, but it's a tremendous impact that Trey Turner is having. And you know he gets on these long streaks. I could see him carrying this right into October. He's very, very crucial. So he's been fun to watch.

I mean, that's that's a big one for me, just because he had been such a major disappointment to me for most of the season in the early part, and he made a heck of an adjustment and I thought, uh, you know, he lowered his hands, and I think you have the numbers and stuff since then.

Speaker 4: Him for the character he's shown, staying with it, not burying himself. He's become a real contributor here in the last since the trade deadslines, since everybody wanted to boot him out of town.

Speaker 5: It's amazing. And I don't have the numbers, but I wonder what his numbers are. He plays right field, which is position comfort zone. It's his an actual position, and I don't know. And listen, he's not played a lot because he's played for Casianos from time to time, and he has been hitting the ball harder consistently. He's probably the most unlucky player in baseball.

Speaker 2: He has started in right field three out of the last eleven games, including Wednesday's series finale against Amara's Rubin yet mentioned the hard hit numbers, so in the last eight games he's batten three to seventy five. But my colleague at MLB dot com, Paul Kasself's found wrote this in his story Yesterday's Wednesday. His hard hit rate now hard hit rate is ninety five or harder, and my percentage of balls in play hit ninety five miles an hour or harder is since the beginning of August fifty four and a half percent. Okay, now, I know, you know, if people say, hey, give me twenty duck snorters versus twenty line drive outs to the outfit, I totally get it. Any hit, I absolutely get it. But you know you're not gonna get twenty bloop singles usually and then hit. If you hit the ball hard consistently, you got chances. You got chances. Now, And here's here's evidence. Since since that cast started keeping track of this stuff, balls hit ninety five mile an hour harder an all of Major League Baseball all hitters since like twenty twelve batters are hitting five fifteen with a slugging percentage over one thousand and all balls hit ninety four and under batting two twenty seven slugging percentage of two sixty seven. So Max Kepler's hard hit rate does mean something. It does indicate that, you know, eventually the luck does turn, and it seems to definitely be turning with with Max Kepler. So, uh so he's and it's interesting, now, there were two consecutive Saturdays where Nick did not play and then Max also you know, Nick did not play on Wednesday, and it sounds like it is going to be a rot outfeel a little bit more of an outfield rotation going forward. And that's just maybe, and.

But I think that the beatter thing is going to happen just because I think that they needed the guys to start stepping up offensively so that they just lock him down in center field. Right, he's trying to find other things to happen off that offensively. I think they actually see Bader play more and center now because other guys are hitting and that defense become plays a little higher.

Real Muto, like I mentioned at the top, is on this in this series. Excuse me, six for twelve, one double, two home runs, four RBIs. He's been on a heck of a run since now. May thirty first, JT was hitting two twenty two with a six fifty four OPS. Not great. People thought he was done.

They're like, oh, you know, oh my gosh, they traded away Logan, Oh hoppy, Yeah, yeah, this is a massive mistake, you know, like you know, they're Since May thirty first, JT is batting three twenty four with an eight twelve OPS. That's the he has the third highest batting average in all of baseball since since the beginning of June, he's got the he's tied for twenty third and on base percentage at three sixty five. He's fifty seventh in slugging percentage. That's out of one hundred and forty one players, So he's like top almost top third in slugging percentage and he's forty ninth in OPS since the beginning of June, so kind of makes it. We've been talking for weeks, right, I mean, every every time we take a question, or Kyle Schwarber hits another four home runs a week, we go, oh my god, he got to sign the guy. What's that number going to be? We've talked a little bit about JT, but now the way he's playing, and say he carries us in through the rest of the season becomes a little bit more interesting. And what you're gonna do with JT, because if you look at the list of free agent catches that are available, he's going to be the guy that everybody's gonna want. Because you have Salvador Perez, this is a potential free agent, but the Royals have a club option. You know, Danny Janssen could be available. There's a mutual option, so he'll probably be available. The rest of that list, though, guys, tell me who you'd want over j T, real Muto in this group. I believe this this list is, as far as I know, mostly accurate. You have James McCann, Gary Sanchez, Victor Carrattini, Elias Diaz who's got a seven seven million dollar mutual option, Austin Hedges, Martin Maldonado, Jacob Stong's, Christian Basquez, Thomas Nido, Tom Murphy, Luke Mayley any flow flow, heavy.

If you go back and look what he did from about mid June on when Harper broke his thumb in San Diego that night, had his thumb broken, JT went nuts at the plate and was a humongo difference maker. And he's swinging it just like that, very confident, pulling the balls he should be pulling with some pop, just really playing all around a good game. I means to me, he's you know right now, the way he's playing, he's indispensable and the impact he has on that pitcher staff. But as far as the contract, I'm just concentrating on one thing right now and organizationally, and that's winning the freaking World Series and deal with that later. But I mean, I think you gotta have him back.

And the one thing I will say about is about his offense is he is very stubborn about his leg kick.

And you can make swing decisions much better because you see the ball longer with your eyes and your body.

Speaker 5: And you got to give k Long and his staff a lot of credit for that as well, and along with what he did with the hand position change with Bryce and Stott, because both those moves have made immediate and drastic impact on this offense.

I remember, I think we were in Saint Louis one year and he was kind of going through it and Rob had said, ah, you know, his leg kicks just kind of out of whack. And if you ever want to irritate JT meant, the leg kick ain't work because you can see the blood draining from her face because I think I don't know who asked the question. It might have been me. I said, yeah, you know, you know, the leg kicks not really working for you, like kind of like that time I asked Doc Holliday if he's in the zone too much.

I mean, that is a great response emotionally and tangibly. I just thought they showed a lot of character on the day you lose the best picture in baseball, you go out and have the historic season.

Speaker 4: And you know, we got Nola going on Saturday. To me, he's been here a decade, he's never been more important to this team. I don't know how he's going to pitch. I don't you know, you can't be brimming with confidence because the way he's pitched this year and the way he pitched Sunday. But if he's ever gonna look like the old Aronola boy, they need him these next six weeks, next two month on Signita right hander in that rotation. There's missing Wheeler. If he if he could dial it up, what a story that would be. You know, I don't know what's gonna happen, but he's certainly gonna have that opportunity to impact this season the way he would have hoped to had he stayed healthy.

So an historic pitching performance by the Phillies. Following the Zach Wheeler news Ranger Suarez six and two thirds innings, zero walks, ten strikeouts, Christopher Sanchez six and the third innings, two walks, twelve strikeouts. Jesus Zarto on Wednesday afternoon six innings pitched, zero walks, twelve strikeouts. That was the other thing is that it's not like they were.

It's the reason why the Cleveland Guardians, same sort of deal, Milwaukee, those are the teams to stay competitive because they played baseball the right way.
