Speaker 1: Yes, So this past week, Paula's Choice through a dinner for us and it was the team, It was some staff, some other people, but the theme. They asked like what I wanted for the dinner, and I said pink. I said I want. I want to be chill. I want to be pink. I don't have a good time. So they got Polochoice got us matching pink sweatsuits. There was a little bracelet making station. There was some cute little mocktails. Is that a bowling alley?

Speaker 2: Tell us all about your journey. Yeah, so I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I moved to Toronto in about twenty eighteen. I finished my middle school years there and then all of high school there and then went to Wisconsin and now I'm in the beautiful state of Connecticut. Connecticut. The campus is more compact, if that makes sense. So like, yeah, I don't know, you just noticed different, you know, just different things. And obously our facilities here, like we don't have to share facilities with different sports. Nice, it's nice. Like upstairs we got like chefs who cook whatever for us. And yeah, it's just it's different, but it's good. I love it. Wait, I have a question. Did you ever go swimming in that lake at Wisconsin? I don't know how to swim. Oh you don't swim, No, not at all. Sarah, tell us about your background, Like where's your family from.

Oh yeah, Like again, I grew up in the church, and ever since I was young, I was just always just drawn to like God, just interested in like amazing wonders that you know they teach in the church that you're reading the Bible, and obviously I've been through a lot of changes in my life so far and just having the faith of you know, being able to get through certain challenges and I don't think it'll take a lot to break me, just because I know, like I have the strength of the Lord and He's brought me this far and there's just there's more to go. Yeah, I love that. You gotta come on.

Speaker 1: I am mine is more recent, but I think a huge reason of that is due to my teammates and seeing just the piece that they had about them and how they were able to handle certain situations. Injuries, things are in the season, family stuff, but just this like I don't even know how to describe it, just like this like peacefulness, this certain way that they would carry themselves during it, and it always amazed me.

Speaker 2: So I was like, you know what, like I want to experience that too, Like they always talk about God and her faith and I never really understood it. So last year I really like took that step in inviting Jesus and got into my life, and I've noticed such a huge difference. So I'm really excited to have more teammates that I can then talk to you about this, because I mean talking to other people that get it, like that's how you grow your faith. So I'm in Sarah, I'm excited to bond over this with her later. Yeah.

Speaker 3: No, I love that I actually share the same faith as you guys. And I discovered Jesus for myself when I was a sophomore in college. So it's really nice when you're set up in the situation that you're in because you have like a tight knit community at Yukon, and being able to take that journey with your teammates, be able to you know, go to church or do Bible study and have that like you know, like minded people all together is really nice and unique experience because then once you graduate, it's like, Okay, now I got to find my community outside of this. I think that's super dope and I love that through the ups and downs, whether it be injuries or during the season or just life. You're able to have something that's never changing and consistent and constant, and yeah, it just gets you through those moments that might be.

So I talked with him and he told me back in the day, you know, he's known you since you're about five or six, and he used to say that you always used to have a runny nose. Oh my gosh, I still need I don't know what it is, like I'm trying to hide my sniffles, but ever since I was young, like my nose always runs like January through December, like always run. And I don't know if it's like something wrong with me or if I just need to take so many care I never had the time to get it checked out. But yeah, like that's Asian practice, like every time you get a break up, grabbing tissue the mom my nose like everything time. No, Yeah, he I think he calls you like booger or something.

Speaker 3: All right, So let's take a pivot. Let's start talking a little bit more about basketball. And you're transferring over from Wisconsin over to Ukon, so tell us a little bit about like what motivate you to leave Wisconsin.

Speaker 2: It was given you know, you only have four years of college and it was my last year, and I just had goals like I want to play in March. I want to like, I just wanted more. I think I owed it to myself to experience the fullness that college basketball could bring. So I decided to go in the portal because I just wanted like more. From the basketball standpoint, I think I've lived in college. If anyone could tell you, Madison is a fun place to be. But now for the basketball side, I just I wanted to fulfill that part in me. So I was like, yeah, by Madison love everyone gotta go stores is really happy to have you happy, Sarah. What were your other official visits? Like you kept it pretty quiet where you were, who you were talking to, where they keep it quiet. I was just blessed in a position where, you know, I had a lot of options but a short amount of time to make a decision. So anyone on three you heard it like someone leaked the games. Malky leaked and I was like, how did she know this? Like? So I went to un C l SU and obviously ukn UNC was a beautiful campus. What they call it Chapel Hill there was. That was my first one. I loved the team, loved the coaches, the gear, the Carolina blue was beautiful. It was beautiful. It was nice. After you went C, I went to l s u Uge. It was my first time in the South. I think I went to Atlanta once, but that was my first time ever in Louisiana. The coaches were really nice to me. I met a few of the players. The campus is nice, the facilities and is it a big campus. It's never been. It's big. Yeah, And they have a tiger, like an actual we have Jonathan walking around. They have a tiger that's crazy. It's like a big like plate pen thing and I think it's in front of like the football stadium in high going camping, and they took me to a dinner, which I know everyone saw on Twitter and they were there were a lot of questions about this LSU dinner. Wait tell us about it because I didn't see it on Twitter. Okay, So I was very quiet about my process because I just didn't want outside noise to like influence. So I went to a dinner with LSU, you know how they do for visits, and it was a really nice dinner. It was fun again, the people that were great. And then you know how you want a club and hold on in a section, They had one of those, and I was like, oh, like I went mine. I'm eating like some burnt steak steak and or whatever barbecue steak spirit but it's like it wasn't burned, but isn't that what it's called? Whatever I'm eating, and all I see is sparklers and a sign and I'm like, oh my gosh. And I was I was like, oh my god, like this is wait, what did the sign say, like Sarah tell something like that or go something I don't remember, and it was playing like their little they have a like a theme song, their school song, and everyone's just clapping and the sparklers and it's like a good time. And then it got posted and then everyone's just kind of like, Oh, Sarah's going to LC She's going to She's going there, She's going there's for sure's And I was like, this is exactly what I didn't want. That's exactly why you kept the quiet, kept the quiet. And when that got posted, I was like, oh, wow, like they're gonna run with it. They're gonna run with it. And that's exactly what they did. They ran with it, and yeah, everyone was like, for sure, She's going to LSU because of a sign at a dinner or whatever. Again, I loved it, and I loved the effort that the coach has put into trying to get me there. But yeah, it was fun. I really did. I really enjoyed the visit. But I chose U Khan for my own reasons because they aligned with what I wanted for my last year. I think, out of my options, it was the best place that again, I could look back and be like, I gave college basketball my all. I pushed myself and to be able to play with some of the best players in the country and coach by the best coaches in the country. At a point I sat down. I was like, even though it was in stores, Connecticut, it's not an opportunity I could pass upon. What you mean we cut that? Tell us about your visit to Yukon. I got here and then I had met at the dinner. You know, when you land, you go have dinner with a few of the teammates. It was KK, Jana, Sarah. I think it was only them three. And at first, like when I'm around new people, I'm a little more quiet and reserved because I'm just trying to like a lot. Wait was Kaylee? There was she there? Yes, we did a joint visit. So I was just pretty quiet. And then I was side wait, like off the bed, I was like, these girls are funny, but like my type of funny, Like the humor is up there. So I'm just like eating and I'm like checking in a little bit, checking like they're really funny. And then the tour campus here is beautiful, Like I love grass I compliment the grass all the time. I'm like, they they hook up with the grass here they have wiscons they did, but like but here, like the lawns and stuff, like they make sure it looks right here, it's different. The grass. The grass here is good, Like it is different, Like even though it's not as like busy, Like it's nice, you know, like to be able to walk and like the peacefulness of it, and like everything's just new, so it's always just something to look forward to every time you like go for a walk. But yeah, the gems was nice. All the trophies that were around, like they literally have trophies like propping the door open. I was like, I was like, wow, like that's incredible that you could even you know, do that. And then the banners in the in the practice gym and all the staff were very welcoming. The players were very welcoming. And I love the honesty from the coaches. They didn't try to sweet talk me. They were just straight up and honest. And at a certain point I did comment on my visit, it just felt right, Yeah, it just felt right. Yeah, So I always trust that feeling I have and then yet now I'm here, that's funny you thought you were quiet because I remember being at the dinner at Coaches Restaurant and I was like, she's got a good person, Like she's actually talking and engaging, where Kelly was like mute, she was quiet, and I was like Sarah's joking around, she's talking. I was like she'd fit in really well, that was crazy because I have that's like quiet for me, Like.

Speaker 1: I mean knowing you now, but like I thought, for being on your visit and not knowing anyone, being in a new place, you were still very That's true. Thanks, it was a fun dinner sitting with you. Sometimes you're like okay, like got to drag things out of people to talk like you were just thank you. What were you most intimidated by before coming to Yukon?

Speaker 2: Just stepping into a new culture of like winning that wasn't wait cut that we need that you you were first, you stepping into a winning culture that because I knew I knew nothing about this was going to be easy, Like on and off the core, I knew that from the jump I expected to be this hard. Like I knew it wasn't gonna be easy. So just like knowing that, like every day was really going to be a battle. And that's what I wanted though, Like and I'm like learning to embrace it now because obviously you know, challenges are challenges, but like it's what I wanted. I was coming in and like, no, I'm here for a reason. I don't need to like overly do too much or trying to prove myself, Like just do what you're good at and don't let like, you know, random outside things try to like make you like fit what you think I need to be in the winning culture that I'm now part of. If that makes sense. Yeah, No, I can't imagine transferring your last year, like you knew Wisconsin system, what the coaches wanted, and now like your last it's not even a full year you have here and you're figuring out a new system, new coaching style, new players. And that's why I was excited.

Do you like ball streets like Puching, Caduy like this, You're like, I'm just trying to figure out how you like to play so I can get to know you and like you really trying to figure out the chemistry with each player stood out to me and I was like, Okay, she's gonna be fun because she picks up on this stuffs.

Speaker 2: I love playing with people who, like, you know, love to play basketball, like after being somewhere for three years, I don't want it to be all me, Like I want to play like I want to pass, like said good screens, like I like just love sing that like in a in a basketball game, like you can't guard one, two, three, four, five, and we got a bench you can't guard them, you know. On that confidence in the team. That's just what I'm really excited for. And I want, you know, my teammates to trust me and like all both sides of the floor, and I trust them too. Like, so it's been it's been fun so far. What was your first impression of easy? Oh, actually, I'm very curious to know. I was going to ask you this the other day in the locker room too. Oh yeah, and then she left, I left, so I didn't hear. So, yeah, it was the picture when we was taking pictures, was that one? Oh yeah, yeah, it was the pictures. She's quieter than I thought, like I okay. The first thing, I didn't expect Easy to talk like that. Her voice, how she sounds. Hi. I was like, I think I called my friend. I was like, I didn't expect easy to sound like that? What did you think? Like? Hey, what's up? Actually like a she's like very soft spoken, and it's like like a very like girly if that makes but yes, a very princess like when you're coming off the screen, like makes you pass it like it's not myself. I'm gonna do something else today. Oh, we don't practice today. Next time I'm practicing. Just wait, I'm so serious to just wait, I'm gonna le Okay, So what was your impression of Gino? When I first spoke to him. It was over a zoom because before I play my visits, I had zooms with the schools. It was very much like he has this aura of intimidation about him. And I was on the phone. We was on the zoom and then he like takes he took pauses between he spoke, and I was like, am I saying the wrong thang? Like? Is he not? Like? Is this not me?

And he was I like his honesty. I think I like the honesty that he gave me. That's just what you really need at a certain point. And with my last year, I needed just straight honesty and he gave that to me. It's important to keep it real.

Speaker 2: It's more than what's on social media? Oh tell us. Sarah Strong is the biggest one, because like she's paying to be this awkward, quiet like person, but she's like the complete opposite. She's like one of the funniest people I've ever met, Like one of the funniest people, and she like it don't take much for her to speak neither. Like so like how she's portrayed as the complete opposite KK just like Goofball. She's funny, easy too, Like she's the dances I see and the fashion outfits, she's asy's funny eighty is very funny. I can't say her jokes here because they're gonna have to get cut. But you know, everyone has a personality, which is nice to be around. Everyone has their own unique personality. I feel like this team is really fun. Like there's a lot of big personalities, but it's not like too much. Like they met all and it's like with everyone, like like everyone could be with each other and switch and then it'll still be fun.

So when I got to college and started making my own money, I just got interested in like, Okay, like who am I like when I put on clothes? But then now I'm like into the girly slide like I love Lulu. I'm starting to get into Alo a little bit. Yeah, have a fitted a fitted bodies teas, Okay, thanks, but yeah the mix between my girly and comfy and now they make cute clothes for tall women. Yeah, finally has to wait twenty years for it. So to being able to like play around with that and figure out, like what I like, what I don't like, what looks good on me, and what doesn't. It's been fun to like experiment.
