00:00:16
Speaker 2: On the iHeartRadio app I searching FSR. I tip my hat even though I'm not wearing one.

00:00:26
Speaker 1: To the Toronto Blue Jays because they play a better brand of baseball. I'm sure I signed up to rot when I was a kid, when I invested in this game that I love. It was called baseball, and there was fundamentals and there was things involved, and the Yankees abandoned all of that just to swing in the air and whiff and miss and go for home runs.

00:00:45
Speaker 2: And that's not baseball. That's my failure.

00:00:48
Speaker 1: It may have worked a few years ago, it doesn't work anymore. I'm sick of it. I'm done with it. And uh and now I'm in a path. Yeah, I was gonna say it that I'm not sad. I'm not sad. In fact, I'm rocking out. Let's go well, you know, before we get it to today's show. Speaking of your Yankees. Uh, Flatty Guerrero wanted to chime in and say, what's up.

00:01:05
Speaker 3: Here, Yankee, Let's go, let's go, let's.

00:01:16
Speaker 2: Go, baby, that's disrespectful.

00:01:24
Speaker 1: Second of all, didn't we say yesterday we hate ra force me to do this with Florida from Good Times?

00:01:31
Speaker 2: I mean, is that big Poppy?

00:01:33
Speaker 1: You're gonna ras me with Guerrero and I could be hearing Big Poppy.

00:01:39
Speaker 2: That was a cool baseball moment.

00:01:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, Rich, wait until your mets are out of Oh yeah, please, Well, you know what it post is a great question.

00:01:48
Speaker 1: We're gonna get to it in a few minutes and it's a simple now what So we're gonna get to that a lot of NFL. I'm gonna talk today about Jackson Dart. We're gonna go old school and fifty hits. We are doing it live for the Fox Sports Radio Studio. If you miss any of this, the podcast always available wherever you get your pods. Just search Covino on Rich give it five stars and uh we're doing it live on YouTube right now, YouTube dot com.

00:02:11
Speaker 2: Slash Covino and Rich FSR.

00:02:14
Speaker 1: Doing live so action packed show gram program where the pros in the Gram. We have a producer Danny g What up, Danny g Y, Your Dwyers looked like cheeks last night?

00:02:27
Speaker 4: Yeah they did. I'm the Phillies are. We know they're a good team, obviously, Why yeah, why we acted like they weren't gonna go out being swept. I didn't think that.

00:02:34
Speaker 1: I'm not saying that to Razu. They still play another day. I'm just saying they look like like buns.

00:02:42
Speaker 4: I'm not super confident about today's game. By the way, they're gonna be playing in the shadows. Well, yeah, that's true. With a good picture going for the Phillies.

00:02:50
Speaker 1: Yeah, but still like to expect your team to sweep everyone, Like did you think Schwarber was just gonna stop hitting home runs? And you think the Phillies good starting pitcher was just gonna stop like the Dodgers, you know, are not the home team in the series. You know, there's a lot of great teams this year, really good teams, and the Blue Jays are one of them. Really good team, Ernie Clement, Lucas, these role players, that's what baseball's about, people stepping up. You can't win with just Aaron Judge and swinging for the fences. So the teams that are left right now are really great teams. So of course the Phillies are gonna take one. And they left Kershaw in way too long yesterday. We agree on that. But the Dodgers do face challenges today. Danny G made a hometown point here. Dodgers Stadium wasn't meant for day games in October like this, so a lot of shadows they're gonna have to battle.

00:03:44
Speaker 2: But still it's gonna be a fun one to watch today.

00:03:46
Speaker 1: Iowa Sam is here, Dan Bayer's here, Spotty's here, and again we're kaven on Rich. We're glad you're here. My team's out. I'm a Yankees fan. Now what I'm bitter. I'm in that bitter stage of like scoot him my whole year.

00:04:00
Speaker 3: I hate him.

00:04:01
Speaker 2: I'm never gonna watch ever. But they don't deserve to win. Riches Mets are.

00:04:06
Speaker 1: Out, Mariners, Brewers be still happy. Danny G's still happy. But my question is this, when your team is out. I'm not saying do you pull another rooting interest, but if you're a sports fan, you still want to watch or not? Do you pow like I'm not watching? So the season's over for you? Are you really a sports fan if that's your angle here. So rooting is not the word rich. It's almost like, do you pull for someone else or is there a storyline that is automatically the default? Like is the storyline the Brewers then because no one expected them to win, they're a young team. I mean, I think there's two ways to go about it. I mean, when your team's out of it. I have friends that at this point say I'm done watching, and you have about the friends formula you're a You have other friends that are like, dude, it's a postseason.

00:05:02
Speaker 2: What do you mean you're not watching?

00:05:04
Speaker 1: I think what you do when your team is out of it, you don't jump on a bandwagon. But I think what you do is you, uh, you step on one you don't need to. You don't ever claim to be a fan of that team. But right now as a Mets fan, they failed to make the post postseason.

00:05:19
Speaker 2: They stink.

00:05:20
Speaker 1: But if I said, you know what, cal Rawley's having a magical year, I do like everyone on that team. It's a really likable team. They've never won before. Maybe I'll pull for the Mariners. Maybe you root for a good pal like Dan Beyer and say you know, hey.

00:05:36
Speaker 2: Man Brewers Cheerio terrang.

00:05:39
Speaker 4: Rich, wouldn't you cheer for your kids favorite team?

00:05:42
Speaker 5: Oh?

00:05:42
Speaker 2: You either did the Dodgers?

00:05:43
Speaker 1: And by the way, we live in Los Angeles, right, So that's also another angle here. The question is if your team's out, do you tune out? Is that the only way to do this? Or as a sports fan, do you say And let's make it very clear, Rich, you said it, but I want to reate. We're not saying all of a sudden, you're a fan of that team, get out here. That's garbage. That's garbage by Suda, that's trash. But so so do you now pull for another team? Because that's what you're left with? So all right, my team couldn't win. Let me be the bigger person, and I'm going to roof for my buddies team.

00:06:17
Speaker 2: I've heard.

00:06:17
Speaker 1: I like this team. They really play good ball. They deserve it. Like, where does your maturity levels go in this case? And That's what I'm trying to figure out today because the Yankees are fresh out of it and that's what's on my mind. I'm like, well, man, this season's been popping. We've been saying it all season, right, Danny g baseball popping babebook, guess what, our team's out, but it's still popping. So now what we're going the.

00:06:40
Speaker 4: Pre show meeting, Rich said, it's only popping if my team's still in it.

00:06:43
Speaker 2: It's only it's only popping to me. But I'm still watching.

00:06:46
Speaker 1: I don't know, man, It's still electric all the games yesterday. There's an intensity level that we haven't seen in a long time. Well not with my Yankees, of course, but you know you're seeing some great baseball. So where do you go? Where does your mindset go? And you know I got my answers, Rich has his, but we want to hear from you too. At eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports at Fox Sports Radio.

00:07:11
Speaker 6: Bark Sports, Mark Sports. Yeah, next time some forks Sports Radio Sports slide. Can't let us slide.

00:07:21
Speaker 1: This guy cut him some slacked. He never mumbles and fumbles. Rich Davis, mister perfect?

00:07:26
Speaker 7: Did you call him a clay Shaw the other day? Wasn't that that's my pet name for He's Richie Stumblebum.

00:07:32
Speaker 8: Hey, get off Rich's back, Okay, I'm a Rich Davis guy.

00:07:35
Speaker 3: Yeah?

00:07:36
Speaker 4: Seriously, Oh man, can.

00:07:38
Speaker 1: We all has no respect for Terraang and Cherio and all your star players.

00:07:42
Speaker 7: Did you say Cheerios and Tang? That was like breakfast in nineteen eighty five, nineteen eighty five, that.

00:07:47
Speaker 4: Those are the only Brewers Rich knows, by the way.

00:07:50
Speaker 1: And you know, does your maturity level go in this case? I feel like I saw in my peripherals Dan Byer shaking his head, like, if my team's out, I tune out.

00:08:00
Speaker 2: Is that true? I?

00:08:01
Speaker 4: Well, I do.

00:08:03
Speaker 8: But I actually think one of the great things about being a sports fan is watching an event and having a natural reaction to a game that you didn't know that you were cheering for a certain team. You may have no dog in the fight, yeah, but if you sit down tonight and watch one of these two games, there may be a team where obviously you're just like, yeah, you.

00:08:24
Speaker 4: Know what, I kind of want the Brewers to win.

00:08:25
Speaker 8: I love that about being a sports fan is you go into a game thinking you don't care, and you come out of it and you're like, why was I rooting for that team the whole time?

00:08:33
Speaker 1: Dude?

00:08:34
Speaker 2: I love that.

00:08:34
Speaker 1: And that's what I love about fighting, right, because there's so many times in a preliminary fight or whatever. You're watching two guys you don't really know, but by the middle of that fight, you're pulling for someone. Yeah, You're like, yeah, I want that guy, And I love that About this thought and about this theory, I'm gonna watch these games and I'm gonna figure it out. So I'm thinking it's Brewers, I really am. He was how trying to get back How can I root for the Dodgers? How can I root for the Dodgers when they beat the Yankees in the World Series? But then again, I live in La what's the mindset here? But I do love that thought that Dan Bayer just shared, and I expressed that when it comes to fighting, your heart or your decision comes from the sense of they got this underdog fight that I relate to, and I want to see this guy win. You could feel that way about a team you're not necessarily rooting for, but now you're pulling for. So where do your rooting interests go when your team is out? That's the question. Well, some people go with the mindset of well, I'm just going to root for a team that eliminated mind which I never got.

00:09:38
Speaker 2: But there are.

00:09:39
Speaker 1: People that that's a mindset but I don't like it. That's not my mind. You heard how you started the show. You want to rub it in with Laddie Guerrero, that Tobagoo. You think I want to root for that guy after he was taking the waz as they say overseas, taking the waz on the Yankees, get out of here, Come on. I think that mindset doesn't vibe with me. But there are plenty of people that say, well, at least that means we lost to the best. I don't get with that. Yeah, I don't get with that. I'm a little spiteful team or something.

00:10:07
Speaker 3: I don't know.

00:10:08
Speaker 4: Yeah, and you should have stepped up and beat the best before they could have advanced.

00:10:12
Speaker 2: Yeah.

00:10:12
Speaker 1: I like the style of ball, the style of play, the heart, the contact, the never giving up in that bat, slapping foul ball after foul ball, working the count, working the picture. I love that about the Blue Jays. I just don't like them. I'm an American League East fan. There's no way room for the Blue Jays. So again, guys, what do you do in these situations?

00:10:33
Speaker 4: Anti Canadian?

00:10:34
Speaker 1: Do you have a formula or does it happen organically the way Bayer described Damn Bayer describes something we've talked about for years, which I'm I'm great. I'm so glad he said that because there have been so many times where you are watching a fight. Fighting is the best example where man don't got a horse in this race. By like the sixth round, you're like, oh, I want this guy. Can I tell you this to others, like his attitude or his hard or as fire, this you made your mind. There's two other instances where I feel like this is very present.

00:11:02
Speaker 2: One's a little more controversial than the other.

00:11:05
Speaker 1: I feel like in dating, when you see like a reality show, I know it's reality show, so relax, But when a guy's choosing between two women, or a women's choose between a couple of dudes on the Bachelorette, there's got to come a point where you're like, I like them both. Something's gonna happen along the way. We're like, all right, now that's the one. I'm There's something will happen along the way when you're in a love triangle. And I think about this in politics, I have you know, there's plenty of people that love to say, hey, I'm down the middle.

00:11:35
Speaker 2: I'm you know, I'm not a Democrat or Republican.

00:11:37
Speaker 1: On election night, your true feelings come out, because when someone's leading, you're either.

00:11:43
Speaker 2: Like oh or still making a choice.

00:11:44
Speaker 1: Yeah, you're making a choice because on election night, on election night, I guarantee you might have said I'm Luke White, I don't love her hate Donald Trump?

00:11:54
Speaker 2: Who knows.

00:11:55
Speaker 1: I guarantee on election night, when results start coming back in, you have an opinion. I like the underdog stories, I like the unexpected. But I'll make that choice maybe tonight Philly's at Dodgers, Brewers at Cubs, and of course you got your Thursday night football Eagles Giants, And I will tell you this Rich. You know, from a professional standpoint, guys like dB, especially guys like dB. He's your update guy. He's the guy that has to know Covino and Rich the shows here. We have to keep an eye on what's going on, right and plus it's fun for us. But where does the rooting interest really go here? The game I got my eye on the most by far is gonna be Brewers Cubs. The excitement we saw yesterday, the fire we saw yesterday, the storyline we've heard all year about the Brewers, Like are they the real deal. You know they deserve it. Let this team win. Let's see what happens. Let's show the world that it doesn't have to be a giant market that takes it all. Like the good old fashioned baseball prevails and that's where the game should be heading toward.

00:13:06
Speaker 2: And I think that baseball could need that.

00:13:07
Speaker 1: So I'll be I'll be watching that game to see if I could organically now say yeah, I'm pulling for.

00:13:12
Speaker 2: The brew Crew, let's go.

00:13:13
Speaker 8: I'll also say this that I think Cavino is in a unique situation where so the Mets lose, so Rich turns his attention to the forty nine ers. You don't have an NFL.

00:13:22
Speaker 2: I don't have a team.

00:13:22
Speaker 1: Yes, I don't claim a team, right, So that's that's also a very interesting situation. I actually thought about that, you know, because a lot of people hit me up last night, sorry about your team, man, And I think a lot of people think I take it harder than I do because it's.

00:13:35
Speaker 2: My only team. That's right.

00:13:38
Speaker 1: I have New York buddies, Dan, It's so funny you say that I have New York friends that are like, all right, very Mets, let us down onto the Rangers and the Knicks. Yeah, basketball and hockey era on the horizon, So there's something to be said about that.

00:13:50
Speaker 2: I feel like I'm all alone. Are you missed?

00:13:53
Speaker 1: Would you be inclined to if they both advanced? Would you want to go Brewers Dodgers out here? Go go check it out live? Or is that something you like chilling at home for.

00:14:02
Speaker 4: I'd probably chill at home for.

00:14:04
Speaker 9: Yeah.

00:14:05
Speaker 4: They you know, and they played in what was it twenty eighteen?

00:14:07
Speaker 2: Yeah.

00:14:09
Speaker 8: I had a buddy who asked me, said I may be able to get tickets, and I was like, yeah, go and then I I don't know if I really loved the idea, and then he said I don't have a ticket for you. So then I was like, oh, I absolutely want to go.

00:14:23
Speaker 2: Exactly.

00:14:24
Speaker 1: But how could you not root for a team that's never won a World Series? They made it what in the eighties? Yeah, Cardinals Capitals, So that's the only team and that was what, like, was that even Robin yell era?

00:14:35
Speaker 4: Yeah?

00:14:35
Speaker 1: Okay, so it was Robin Era early Paul malodor era of the Brewers. They haven't seen the World Series since then, so that the storyline alone is intriguing.

00:14:46
Speaker 2: What pulls you in? You want to get more pulled in.

00:14:49
Speaker 1: Watch put the google this, We'll look up the speech that Yelich gave to them.

00:14:54
Speaker 2: I love the team.

00:14:55
Speaker 1: I love that guy. I think he's a great dude. I think he's a great comeback story. He has a hot mom, Madam. We've interviewed him. He's a likable guy.

00:15:04
Speaker 2: Yeah.

00:15:05
Speaker 8: I've always also felt that this is unfair because I and I've said this on the show. I'm very unfair to the Minnesota Twins because they won two World Series titles right when I was in the in the prime of loving sports, Like I remember World Series prior to that, but when you're really grasping it, it was nineteen eighty seven. I would have been ten at the time. Then they went again in nineteen ninety one. I think the same thing with the Blue Jays. I think the Blue Jays are a great story.

00:15:29
Speaker 1: But there was a time you're thinking back to back, yes, exactly the early nineties where they were the team that got Jamal Joe not only you couldn't beat, but they would get the best players. Now, the Brewers didn't treat Paul Malader great on the way out, So he goes to Toronto and wins, and maybe that would be a reason. But there were times where the Brewers were battling in the Al East with Toronto, like Toronto was a hated team to me, I didn't like the Blue Jays.

00:15:54
Speaker 2: Yes, over thirty years ago.

00:15:55
Speaker 1: It doesn't feel like it, but it's over thirty years ago. Touch the mall, Joe, they go get Ricky Hendon saying they get Roger Clemens. They you know that that's a different world. Yeah, there's one more Cadem Hardison style. Kadem Hardison style a different world. But there's one more layer to this question, and we'll leave it to you Fox Sports Radio Nation. If you're one of those, my team's out, so I tune out. But how about players we mentioned? Yellis right, good dude, he's been the face of this organization now for a long time. But on the flip side, what about guys like Bryce harper Man like that guy. You're not rooting for a player like him?

00:16:31
Speaker 2: Bryce? Number one? Keep in mind the player faller, he knows ball right. Want to see the DC and then that's when the Nationals won. So Bryce is still looking.

00:16:38
Speaker 1: If you're not rooting for teams and we're using the term rooting loosely, because we're not saying all of a sudden you change an alliance or an allegiance to a team. We're saying just for the fun of watching. Does your interest then turn to the players if you're so against teams, because you know I do watch football in that way, I root for certain players, So maybe players the answer here. But I'll tell you what, I'll make that choice tonight. My eye is on the Brewers Cubs. We'll see what happens and enjoy it. If your team's still enjoy it, mine's not. And I do think Dan Bayer made a great point. You not having an NFL team that you really claim is your own keeps you a little more locked in, because I will say, once the Mets were eliminated, it was like, all right, I'm watching, but now like my main attention goes towards the Niners.

00:17:25
Speaker 4: My teenagers do this a lot in the NBA. They have favorite players like Steph and so they'll be sharing during a Warriors game. But they're Laker fans. So this generation right now they follow different NBA players and dB, I know there's some NBA news you wanted to hit. Yes, speaking have my breaking news sounder.

00:17:43
Speaker 2: Guys, breaking news from Fox Sports.

00:17:47
Speaker 8: A report from ESPN says Lakers forward Lebron James will miss the next three to four weeks of action because of sciatica on his right side.

00:17:56
Speaker 2: That's old guys stuff.

00:17:57
Speaker 4: Yes, that's such.

00:17:59
Speaker 1: A right, that's forty some of your old guy problems.

00:18:06
Speaker 2: That's not young guy problems from hoisting Hennessy.

00:18:09
Speaker 8: Have we ever seen sciatica in the parentheses of a of an athlete before?

00:18:14
Speaker 2: Yeah, George Blanda and it was.

00:18:18
Speaker 3: An old.

00:18:20
Speaker 1: Who was it not Vita Blue who pitched Satchel Page. Then he pitched they say, like till he was way older than they thought. So, yes, I don't think we've seen siatic inquitibitrool. He's playing in rockports this season. Yeah, he's playing in old sky shoes.

00:18:35
Speaker 2: See the bronze.

00:18:38
Speaker 4: No, the Lakers have a dish of Werthers at the end of the scores table. This year it's brand new.

00:18:46
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's you know what, Danny g That sucks though for Lakers fans it does, and especially when you're hearing all this other nonsense about Amazon Prime Day and he's promoting Hennessy and he's got his decision.

00:18:57
Speaker 2: It's like, yeo, dude, you're not even playing. That's a lit man.

00:18:59
Speaker 1: I mean, I know he can't control that, but that is sort of a downer for anybody pumped about the season coming up in a few weeks.

00:19:05
Speaker 4: By the way, Rich Satchel Page was fifty nine years old. Oh man, Yes, he played his last season.

00:19:11
Speaker 2: Yeah, he doesn't throw a powder anymore. It's metamucil. Yeah, that's a good one.

00:19:15
Speaker 4: I like that.

00:19:16
Speaker 1: So hey, the question, guys, your team is out, do you tune out? What's your rooting interest? Just to keep an eye on the game moving forward. I like the underdog story, but I can't force that to happen. When I say underdog, I mean the team that never won, the Brewers. What about the Mariners. Mariners have never even been to a World Series. I've never There's a lot of leading Look, yeah, there's a lot of great storylines, a lot of great teams. I know why you don't want the Marinals, and I'll tell you why. I know the postseason doesn't matter with MBP voting, but I made the analogy. You know, when you know when you're in someone's in court and someone on the witness stand said some crazy stuff and the judge says, oh, strike that from.

00:19:57
Speaker 2: The record, but you're like, yeah, but we heard it.

00:20:00
Speaker 1: I know. Voting for MVP, you know doesn't count the postseason, but if you see cal Raley keep going, it's gonna be in all the voters heads.

00:20:07
Speaker 2: So you want cal Raley out.

00:20:08
Speaker 1: That's part of it. Also, like you know, I'd rather choose an n LP team. Get the AL team out of here. Okay, that's an AL fan A haha, I go be here, big Poppy. Oh, the Yankees loose? Hey, heydy, you know what I mean. It's my guy, Hoaly, here's my guy. Go right away, They're going, I go be he shut up, poppyse never seen a guy so not care but care. At the same time, Steve Covin over here, I don't, Danny g I don't know who's crying more. And then on Love is Blind or Steve Covino, you're gonna compare me to that guy on Love is Blind? I get out of here, but I will say this, why won't you.

00:20:53
Speaker 3: Get with me?

00:20:54
Speaker 4: I'd be holding then.

00:20:56
Speaker 1: That that FS one broadcast needs Poppy because he brings the fun. But that's disrespectful to all the fans to Jeter to a rock Come on, they were laughing. Not It's like that's like rubbing it in. Man, Peter wasn't get out of here a job. You're such a lame o. I mean, honestly, I a Yankees had one and all of a sudden, uh freaking sombreros on, get out of here. I think it's fun.

00:21:21
Speaker 2: Get out of here.

00:21:22
Speaker 1: I'd see you in concona ha ha ha, big poppy, get out of my face.

00:21:27
Speaker 2: So God, I'm glad you're over it.

00:21:29
Speaker 1: We're Cavino Enrich live from the Fox Sports Radio studio, and two reminders, we're gonna do old school when fifty hits, So in twenty minutes we throw it back in reminisce. We're gonna talk some TV. We'll explain. So start thinking of some old school let's say, start thinking some edgy shows you grew up with, edgy shows you grew up with. Think of how many Yankee fans drove home to their mom's basement last night said see low blows and mom my laundry. Whatever we don't fit into today's show is gonna be on over promise. A brand new episode drops today. YouTube dot com Slash, Covino and Rich FSR join us live at four on the West, seven on the East over promised Episode one twelve Peaches and Cream one twelve. Today, I can tell you this. We're gonna talk is it cheating? Because today's an anniversary of cheaters?

00:22:21
Speaker 3: Is it cheating?

00:22:22
Speaker 1: We're gonna go over the new rules of cheating? And who might be asked. I don't think there's any surprise, but you'll find out on over promise later today. Rest in peace, Mike Greenwells. That's a legendary red sock. Legendary red sock in that Ellis Burks era of baseball card collecting.

00:22:41
Speaker 2: And how many Mike, how many Mike Greenwells did you have?

00:22:43
Speaker 4: For real?

00:22:44
Speaker 1: And you know, here's a fun fact that could be true, one of those things that I never heard until recently, but I read somewhere and it was probably a meme, so it has to be true. But that we all counted way too much on our Todd Van Poppel cards to be worth something.

00:22:58
Speaker 2: Know that Mike Greenwell and Unmattingly were cousins? Really? Was that the same rumors?

00:23:04
Speaker 1: It was that in the same rumor mill that uh leaping Lennypofo and Macho Man were brothers than they were, but they were brothers. Yeah, they were brothers. They still are, I guess, but rest in peace. Mike Greenwell definitely one of those legendary late eighties early nineties big names for the Red Sox. As we get closer to the NBA, we are going to take your phone calls on the rooting interest. I had a question for Dan Bayer as we do get closer to the NBA, is this the year with a lot of young talent?

00:23:31
Speaker 2: Now do you think dispersed the big step?

00:23:33
Speaker 1: By the way, they are not cousins, but it is a rumor simply two former Major League Baseball players who played in the same era.

00:23:40
Speaker 4: But it says here they're related through family connections.

00:23:43
Speaker 2: That's yeah, so I knew.

00:23:45
Speaker 1: I I like how all Italian people call people their cousin when it's just like a neighbor kind of yeah, but they had that connection. I never knew that even as a Yankees that's my uncle. Is it your uncle, your dad's friend, and my dad's friend, but we call him uncle, you know, uncle Richie.

00:23:59
Speaker 2: Is this the year, guys the Spurs take a big step forward? I feel like it might be.

00:24:02
Speaker 1: I mean, I know they're still very young, but now, I mean now they're Wimby's seven to five and they drafted that a lot of that, a lot of draft equity.

00:24:10
Speaker 2: Is this the year?

00:24:10
Speaker 8: Yeah, they had the second overall pick. They took Dylan Dylan Harper with that pick. In the past draft they acquired Dearon Fox last year. In most cases, I would say yes, like you expect them to maybe make that Oklahoma City sort of rise, But again, the West is just so loaded. Yeah, like how high can you go? Maybe because of fresh legs and other teams aren't as interested in getting the top sex four, like a four or five seede you're trying to slip in. I mean sure, and and they may who knows, they may win sixty games and be right there with with Oklahoma City. I just don't know how urgent some of the other teams are going to be early out in the season, like the Mavericks. You know, you don't have Kyrie Irving. You're breaking in Cooper flag at that point.

00:24:54
Speaker 2: Man, that's another Night storyline.

00:24:55
Speaker 1: I think this year, you know, we got to give credit where credits that we talked about Baseball's popping. I think the NBA is gonna have some really interesting storylines this year.

00:25:03
Speaker 8: There's a realistic chance that san Antonio could just also just at the default. Again of what I'm saying is, I don't know if the regular season matters to the other teams when it comes to seating, but because they're so young and maybe something that could help them moving on. But I think other teams are more just trying to jockey for position for the second half of the year than going into the playoffs.

00:25:23
Speaker 1: I think if Wemby takes my plan of the three point finger roll.

00:25:27
Speaker 2: Then they definitely got it. Then they're golden.

00:25:31
Speaker 1: A couple of quick phone calls when your team's out of it in any sport, what then becomes your answer?

00:25:39
Speaker 2: Essentially, now what.

00:25:40
Speaker 1: Your rooting interest to now? Or do you pick players or do you find an underdog story that resonates with you or the other option, like Dan Byer said, if you're into other sports, is that your q to transition to something else?

00:25:52
Speaker 2: Like, you know, my team's out of it, all right? Football? All right, NBA's almost here, Hockey's almost here, Like what is your move? Let's go to Boise and Tyler Hey Tyler.

00:26:01
Speaker 10: Going, guys, what's up man?

00:26:02
Speaker 2: What's your what's your move here?

00:26:03
Speaker 4: What do you do?

00:26:04
Speaker 11: So, as a as a Bills fan lifelong, Bill's a Mariners guy, it's been brutal and uh.

00:26:09
Speaker 1: You're living good now. I was gonna say, Bills and Mariners, you're having your moment me finally.

00:26:14
Speaker 11: But as as that, you know, usually baseball over in August and football season starts in August, but this year, I gotta say, you know, Mariners never ever making the World Series. Definitely pulling for them as obviously as a fan, but I think people that aren't fans can lean that direction, and then as far as you know, the other would be seat Bills, Bill's Lions Super Bowl and maybe like a series with the Mariners and the Brewers would be pretty sweet.

00:26:40
Speaker 2: I think that is the number one answer.

00:26:42
Speaker 1: If we were playing family Feud and Steve Harvey came out with here as big mustache, I think the number one answer on the board would be people root for the team that perhaps the franchise has never won.

00:26:51
Speaker 2: That's always the answer. Yeah, that's where my heart goes. So give them one.

00:26:55
Speaker 1: Let's how you happy about He's right, because Rever last year everyone's number one answer was come on, Lions and Bills, And I think the answer now would really be Brewers Mariners would be do you remember what I said to you know, the ultimate fantasy Josh Allen hoists the trophy and he thanks all the fans that were there in the nineties, and ay, Jim.

00:27:15
Speaker 2: Kelly and Scott Nor would you got all you guys are forgiving? And then he you do it for everybody.

00:27:19
Speaker 1: That's your ultimate AI video app saying if your team's out and you're rooting for the people that sort of I don't know did not deserve it, but that have been waiting.

00:27:27
Speaker 4: We talked about it. When the Cubs finally won. There were grandparents where people were like, I'm so happy my grandfather lasted long enough to see this, and other people's grandparents died just before they won.

00:27:40
Speaker 2: So one more phone call on it's gonna happen interest. I feel like that's gonna happen to me.

00:27:44
Speaker 1: I feel like the Mets are going to go on one hundred year streak of not winning the World Series, and it'll be like a nineties one year old guy.

00:27:51
Speaker 2: Like, man, let's go Met.

00:27:53
Speaker 3: She's well.

00:27:53
Speaker 1: Then all of a sudden like I'm gonna die at ninety eight years old in September a month world starting theory that you've always been the bad luck churm to the mess.

00:28:02
Speaker 2: You've always been there.

00:28:03
Speaker 1: Mush, I might send a hit man after Rich wrap it up with two we got here in Seattle.

00:28:09
Speaker 4: He's the governor.

00:28:10
Speaker 1: The governor in Seattle. What's going on me? I got nothing against your your Mariners. I remember battling your Mariners in ninety five, though you did say their home run celebrations lame. I think it's cool with the Trident. I don't like any of those celebrations. What's up, Seattlesonal?

00:28:28
Speaker 12: Hey, a little background real quick. I grew up in Detroit, Michigan, spent first fourteen years of my life there, and then my dad dragged me out to Seattle. So I root for all teams Detroit. So it's kind of tears our family apart. All my kids are Seattle fans, whether it's football, other it's baseball, it's human hockey with cracking. But my take is a once of Detroit team is out. I stopped for eating. I just stopped watching the games. I can't get into it if my team's not there, so big game tomorrow night. Let's go Tigers. And I wanted to say I love your guys' show. I usually only catch the last hour, but the government shut down has me on vacation right now, so I'm getting to listen to you all day and keep up the great works.

00:29:10
Speaker 2: Thanks man. Hopefully everything works out with your job and we appreciate it. Brother.

00:29:12
Speaker 1: But you know what, if the Mariners do beat your Tigers, your kids will be happy. Look at it that one, yeah, so that someone will be happy.

00:29:18
Speaker 11: Right.

00:29:18
Speaker 1: Thanks again, I appreciate the call, and thank you Fox Sports Radio Nation for hearing us out. Now, next we do something called old school when fifty hits. We do it every Thursday. We throw it back and reminisce. You know what's funny about our conversation yesterday about razzing like people love to lean into like Yankee Stadium spirit Halloween. No, if you go to my social media page, like my Facebook page too, you see all these people like hey, Yankees released their City connect jerseys.

00:29:51
Speaker 2: It's like a trash can Like yeah, all right.

00:29:54
Speaker 1: Only one team wins, so shut your pile. If it's not your team, then shut up.

00:30:00
Speaker 2: Stage and grief this spot. What is he doing?

00:30:03
Speaker 1: Only angerain buy bargaining. He's bargaining one team wins, So I guess it's a too battle.

00:30:13
Speaker 4: No, no, no, no, no no.

00:30:14
Speaker 1: I think it's a failure. I'm embarrassed by the Yankees. I'm disgusted. In fact, I think they stink. They deserve to lose. I love the game that the Blue Jays play, I just don't like them. But only one team wins. Relax, slow your roll, and I can't wait to see who it is you know to make you nut stuff for anymore. Let's do our hire ract play of the day.

00:30:36
Speaker 4: I didn't pick a Yankees clip.

00:30:37
Speaker 1: Yeah, live for the Fox Sports Radio studio. It's time for our play of the day, and Danny, you could cover your ears for this one. Schwarber hitting bombs.

00:30:44
Speaker 13: He's from the right side. That ball's crushed steep to right field. Hernandez doesn't even move.

00:30:50
Speaker 3: It is long gone.

00:30:51
Speaker 13: It's off the roof for the pavilion in right field. He styles Scharber and with a lightning strike, the Phillies tie it.

00:30:58
Speaker 1: Up at one man shot well in about twenty minutes or so. Game four, Getna Get going at Douer Stadium, That was Curtesy Affhillies Radio Network, TYRECT play the Day and four. Over forty years, Tirec's been helping customers find the right tires for how, what and where they drive, shift fast and free back by free road hazard protection, with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation tireraq dot com. The way tire buying should be, and we do it every Thursday. We're a little early, but that's nice. Guys are minute early for this? Yeah, Holy Holy but should I just alerge all the affiliates? Should I just speak real slow for a minute now? It's like that rare occasional where you're actually early with your wife for a dinner reservation, Like we're here for the seven o'clock sir, it's six fifties five. Well, like I said, something happened on this day. In nineteen eighty six, we called it the fourth TV Network. Back in eighty six, we call it old School. When fifty hits, let's do it, there's a certain.

00:32:03
Speaker 3: Yeah, what we.

00:32:03
Speaker 2: Gonna do is go back back into time.

00:32:08
Speaker 9: Throwing it back for a Thursday. Old School went fifty hits at fifty after CNR give you the time capsule topic and we reminisce together.

00:32:19
Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, taking you back when you were a little pumpkin pie haircuted, freaking your corduroys, who were in your parachute, panp Can I give you a little perspective what was going on on this day in eighty six?

00:32:28
Speaker 2: Besides what you're going to get to.

00:32:30
Speaker 1: This is when the Mets were in the National League Championship against Mike Scott. Remember how unhittable he was, the legend of Mike Scott and Idio you cursed the team. Yeah, this is before I cursed the Mets. And today was the day Phantom of the Opera opened on Broadway, so Andrew Lloyd Webber.

00:32:46
Speaker 2: So we're talking a long time ago. The eighties feel like yesterday.

00:32:49
Speaker 1: But man, coming up on forty years, I was born that year eighty six, Sam huh yep.

00:32:54
Speaker 4: I believe that media changed forever that day. The world changed forever because Io Sam was born on this day.

00:33:01
Speaker 1: In nineteen eighty six, Fox debuted as TV's fourth major network after NBCCBS and ABC. And when you think back to the early Fox days, you think about them trying to find their place on the dial.

00:33:20
Speaker 2: And it was a couple of.

00:33:21
Speaker 1: Years until the main shows really came out. Fox just sort of launched on this day. But when you think of those early days of Fox, when they really became a player.

00:33:30
Speaker 4: They had to cut out their own lane.

00:33:31
Speaker 2: Yeah, they really did.

00:33:32
Speaker 1: Fox operated differently than the other three in that only three hours of the day were dedicated to the network.

00:33:39
Speaker 2: It had a rocky start, but Fox.

00:33:41
Speaker 1: Became the most watched network during two thousand and seven two thousand and eight. In twenty nineteen, the network was acquired by the Disney Company.

00:33:49
Speaker 2: So that's the history. But it started eighty six on this day.

00:33:52
Speaker 1: But if you think back to then, they had to differentiate themselves from everybody else, and the way they did that was with Edgy program And.

00:33:59
Speaker 2: Just for the record, love to be like, oh you guys are affiliated with no Fox Sports Radio.

00:34:04
Speaker 1: Just for the record, No, no affiliation with Fox News, Fox Sports one, or like NFL on five.

00:34:10
Speaker 4: It's like how Maddingly and Greenwell are cousins.

00:34:12
Speaker 2: Yeah, Like there's no real affiliation other than the name and the brand.

00:34:16
Speaker 14: Right.

00:34:17
Speaker 7: I have a question, how does one in the eighties carve out like we want to be a network channel? That seems like that's like bedrock stuff like how do you even get to become a network channel.

00:34:27
Speaker 2: It's sort of the wild West. I guess enough money to do it.

00:34:29
Speaker 3: Exam.

00:34:30
Speaker 2: It was really interesting.

00:34:31
Speaker 1: And I'm not trying to like I'm being serious when I say, when you were a kid, before cable TV was in every household and streaming, we all remember back you'd flip the TV channels on, like on the Actually.

00:34:42
Speaker 4: What was it for you guys?

00:34:43
Speaker 2: What was Fox for you?

00:34:44
Speaker 3: Guys?

00:34:44
Speaker 1: Fox five? Fox for us it was eight. Out here it's eleven. Yeah, it was Fox five New York. And I remember like CBS was two, MBC was four, and NBC for US was seven. Whatever city you lived in, they were missing channels. Like remember three was nothing. Three is what you put your TV on for VCRs and stuff. Yeah, they were missing channel. So I guess Fox just filed the way in different markets to fill that niche.

00:35:07
Speaker 8: We didn't have a Fox affiliate for years and so some of that programming like Beverly Hills nine or two one oh at some point had to be aired at like midnight on a Saturday night or Sunday morning. And then when the NFL got the package, we still didn't have a Fox affiliate, So they had to figure out a way to put Packer games on and they ended up being on the ABC affiliate.

00:35:28
Speaker 2: Now correct me if I'm wrong.

00:35:30
Speaker 1: Fox again carving its only as a little edgy, did their whole Tracy Yeman thing which spawned the Simpsons, and they were pushing the envelope because they were edgy, and Barb was talking back to his parents.

00:35:45
Speaker 4: Married with Children that was the other one.

00:35:48
Speaker 1: Married with Children was way, let me hit you up a little more in living color.

00:35:53
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, so raise your hand. If your mom ever said I don't know about this married with children's show, oh that, I'm sure you should be watching this, and she'd make us turn the channel.

00:36:01
Speaker 15: It was.

00:36:02
Speaker 2: It was borderline inappropate, especially for back then.

00:36:05
Speaker 1: It was my dad's favorite show, and I like, he was like, you let me watch all the Yeah, but it was it was definitely edgy. Married with Children was definitely pushing the envelope.

00:36:14
Speaker 2: You said this.

00:36:15
Speaker 1: I remember getting in trouble in school, Danny because I wore I'm Bart Simpson, who the hell are you?

00:36:19
Speaker 3: Shirt?

00:36:19
Speaker 2: And he heard it inside out. Al Bundy went to what strip club? Did you go to the jiggle room? When can we go there Hooters, Hooters, Yum yum yum.

00:36:29
Speaker 1: Right, so way inappropriate based on Fox launching on this day in eighty six, what other cartoons, radio shows, movies shows, what are considered edgy? Back when you were little that you remember sneaking when the parents went to bed. You know, my wife, her mom wouldn't let her watch MTV or vh one or anything. I thought it was all like the davil pH one. She was the water boy mom, right, So what were the edgy things you tuned into when the parents left the house or I don't know, when it was late.

00:37:06
Speaker 2: At night, maybe too violent it thinking back to the skin Imax days.

00:37:10
Speaker 1: Dude, late all right, so your phone calls next old school and fifty hits right here on Fox Sports Radio, I think of I don't know if it was meant to be edgy, but it was a little on the perverted side.

00:37:24
Speaker 2: What's up.

00:37:25
Speaker 1: My dad would be watching Benny Hill as a kid, and I would watch with him, and they would they'd be women in lingerie running around all over the place. Oh, Willard, go will.

00:37:37
Speaker 2: Willard.

00:37:37
Speaker 1: It was great because you'd sit there as a kid. My dad would be laughing his ass off but I'd be like, whoa, what's up Willard?

00:37:46
Speaker 10: Hey, what's up? Covino? What's up? Rich? What's up? Diamonds and pearls? Diamond Dan? You know, you know how long I've been listening Diamond Dance. Anyways, Guys, I used to have a string cooked up of my TV to where I can turn it off because it had to switch. I could turn it. I can make the string and turn it off before my mom walked in. And yes, Benny Hill was one, but the real one, the real one, the real one was on showtime and it was after hours. Man, you will, you will?

00:38:20
Speaker 2: I love that. I remember that if you had that box too.

00:38:25
Speaker 1: We had a box with the wire, the box, the wire before we had like I don't know, your regular remote.

00:38:30
Speaker 2: It was an analog cable cable box.

00:38:33
Speaker 1: If you pressed three channels just a certain way, the right way, you'd get that scrambled Playboy or Spice channel. And again that's what we're talking about moments.

00:38:43
Speaker 4: The cable boxes that had the turn knobs. You could also like hold it in between two of the pay channels and get it to unscramble. But my brother would like get a baseball card folded and have to stick it in there so that it would hold the position, or he would just make.

00:38:56
Speaker 2: You hold it.

00:38:58
Speaker 1: Your imagination would run off because you where you see some crazy stuff.

00:39:01
Speaker 4: He watched the show called Lady Chatterly on Cinemax.

00:39:04
Speaker 2: I remember that. I remember Lady Channeling.

00:39:06
Speaker 1: I remember late night Skinmax was pretty edgy for the time for you know, a regular cable channel. But back to Benny Hill. You know, Benny Hill would be patting the old guy in the head, but they'd be running around in fast speed to that song with all these women with their with their ghibli bits hanging out for the most bits. Yeah, so you're like, whoa. I remember, as I've joked before, I used to I used to tape some of those late night Cinemax movies on VHS tapes and label them forty nine Ers Game so that my mom would never you know, I'd be like, forty nine ers Bears Monday Night.

00:39:41
Speaker 2: Meanwhile, it would be do you.

00:39:42
Speaker 1: Remember Bikini Carwatch Company Out also perverted eighties comedies. There was one that I I'll never remember the name, but it was a dude that made a wish and and the genie was like really hot.

00:39:54
Speaker 2: It was like something on a beach. Is this just a fantasy?

00:39:58
Speaker 1: I had no, but if everyone was, I'm talking about miracauzam with Shaquille O'Neil.

00:40:03
Speaker 2: Is it miracle beach? Is that possible?

00:40:05
Speaker 1: So anyway, if you know, let us know at eight seven seven ninety nine, Ol Fox and I'm gonna give you one more. I gave you Benny Hill and he agreed, Thanks for the call.

00:40:13
Speaker 4: Man.

00:40:13
Speaker 1: On the music front, I remember how how naughty and wild and rebellious I felt listening to Twisted Sister as a kid. Maybe for you that was NWA or even run dmc early on or something, or dare I say the genre of rep Twisted Sister for me was that band. Parental Advisory D Snyder actually fought.

00:40:36
Speaker 2: That right, but I would have to lower it.

00:40:39
Speaker 1: If I heard my mom coming up the steps and I was listening to You're Gonna Burn in hell ah Burn, I'd have to lower it.

00:40:46
Speaker 16: Bex.

00:40:47
Speaker 2: I'm like, I do know.

00:40:47
Speaker 1: My mom would think I'm some sort of devil worshiper and that it was a different time. My aunts would go to my mom, are you sure you want Stephen listening to that? So I'd have these posters in my room. But that's what was considered edgy time. What was the story you want to tell me? Like you were listening to if I would if I could just kill a man? Oh, that was the only time my dad, Yeah, it was the only time. My dad sort of reprimanded me. I was listening to the O G Cypress Hill. Heyre is something you can't understand how I could just kill the man?

00:41:16
Speaker 2: My dad came in, Amen, that's what you're listening to, killing may that you listen to me? And I was like, I don't know, pill you want to kill people?

00:41:26
Speaker 3: What wrong with you?

00:41:27
Speaker 1: But that was that was nineties, right, But we're going eighty six. But whatever that story is for you, there's no rules here. Yeah, we're talking about what you remember pushing the envelope that now when you look back, really is nothing. I Danny, I'll say it again. He brings up the music. I think the genre of rapping itself was had amitation.

00:41:45
Speaker 4: There was a lane in My mom used to tell me, why can't you just listen to the positive rap? Because there was like, you know, gangster rap. Yeah, there was. There were different kinds of rap.

00:41:55
Speaker 1: Guys like Snoop Dogg and guys like ice Cube or like family friendly dudes right now, those are the those bad dudes on planet Earth.

00:42:01
Speaker 2: At one point there was definitely edgy, there's no question about them.

00:42:04
Speaker 4: On Yeah, there were rappers like Chuck D and KRS one and guys like that that were trying to teach you something. And I know because of kr as one, right, and then there was NWA and some of the gangster rap. And my mom remember those MEMORYX tapes that were like pink and yellow swirl colors. Of course, my mom was curious about what was on some of those tapes in my bedroom while I was at school. She listened and it was nw A how to blank a Blank, and she lost her mind. When I got home from school, she said, just because we're in this environment we're in we were in LA at the time, doesn't mean you could listen to this raunchy music edgy. Either you listened to the either you listened to positive rap music or no rap music, right, yeah, And so you know, I had to be very careful with what music I was even djaying on my turntables in my bedrooms.

00:42:53
Speaker 1: Kimino's mom give them a Karen Carpenter CD. The d Cassett and said, how about this? Even I'm like, no, Chris AND's sister, I want to rock. But you know, back to TV too. I don't think anyone's gonna say it, so I'll say it. Andrew Dice Clay was his edgy as a guy because he was doing nursery rhymes. You vibed with that as a kid, But you didn't want your mom here, you repeated him at a recess. Yeah, but you you played dumb when your mom's like, well, what's that? You know, let's go the phone calls? And on the anniversary of Fox debuting and again it just pushed the envelope with in living collar and like we said, the Simpsons and married with children what used to be considered pushing the envelope? Looking back, it's pretty funny that should we blame Fox for opening up the floodgates? Are we better off with all this smarting runch? I have a few more great examples, but I don't want to steal them. So let's go to Boo and Texas. We'll start with you. What's up boat, Hey Boo, Hey, we're here, you man? What what what was considered raunchy or why or edgy back in the day.

00:43:57
Speaker 17: Yeah, so my mom was pretty cool, like stuff like Saturday Night Live she thought was pretty edgy, but she let us watch it, like me and my brother and even some of the late night stuff on HBO.

00:44:09
Speaker 16: But she was like, don't don't ever tell anybody outside the house, like, don't talk about it at school and all this kind of stuff until my brother brought home the first two Live crew.

00:44:20
Speaker 2: Say, oh, forget about even the album cover was edgy.

00:44:24
Speaker 17: Yeah, yeah, he kind of snuck it in and he was like, look what I got and we never we never played that one out loud.

00:44:31
Speaker 1: Dude, there's smut everywhere now right, I mean, listen the younger generation. What's that fact that one out of ten girls eighteen to twenty five has her own only fans page, Like we live in a world where, yeah.

00:44:42
Speaker 2: People, this is a team.

00:44:44
Speaker 1: I remember bringing home, Like, if you brought home a like a post of a girl big boobs from Spencer's Gifts and put on your wall, your mom might have been like, what are you doing? My mom had a heart attack when I took down my Don Mattingly Hitman poster to put up some Cindy Crawford.

00:45:00
Speaker 4: Really quick. Just to go back to what you were saying a minute ago about how it opened things up. It did off the air, Iowa Sam was saying that we got to see a lot of good programming that we would have missed out on. And also it was some creative freedom that we still wouldn't have, maybe because I worked at NBC Sports Radio prior to this network. Most of the stuff, I'll say eighty percent of what we joke about on this show and what we're able to do, I couldn't do on that network. We'd get yelled at because they wanted to be more of a CBS you know what Rich was saying before about bland and be careful and safe and all that. And because the Fox brand is somewhat irreverent, we're able to do things and have fun in a way that we normally wouldn't get to.

00:45:43
Speaker 1: Sure, they weren't breaking any rules technically, and we're just pushing them as far as they could go. I'll tell you what, when we before here were I think we're a little less fun. At ESPN, they were a little you know, before they let McAfee sot of just do what he wants. Before that, they were very like oh no, no, yeah, absolutely, So back to your phone calls because I got a bunch of answers. But what was considered edgy back? Then you want to tuck the trip? Yeah, let's let's go to Vegas. Hey, trip in Vegas.

00:46:09
Speaker 18: Hey, gentlemen, I've been watching it all on TV. I think you'll need money again. You're looking kind of thin around there.

00:46:15
Speaker 19: Yeah.

00:46:16
Speaker 18: The uh I'm gonna watch the Bikini Carwash too when I get home on HBO Max. That's a great one. I was gonna say back in the day, first parent advisory lyrics I had was Icy back when he was a rapper, and then Richard Pryor. I brought that home one time and they turned it on and the first words out of his mouth was the effort. My father's like, you turned that off? Yeah, I mean, because it was a look on their face the first word.

00:46:39
Speaker 3: So it's good.

00:46:40
Speaker 2: Yeah.

00:46:41
Speaker 1: Now, honestly, it's a lot of Eddie Murphy too, You're I mean, I remember my mom walking me out of movies, like pulling me by my ears because it would get too raunchy. I remember my mom walking out of like I think it was like forty eight hours. Eddie Murphy movies like because of the language, do you remember just a different time speaking of it, and that you got me thinking of even deeper stuff.

00:47:02
Speaker 4: Now.

00:47:03
Speaker 1: Of course there's gonna be really good general answers, but specific movies and shows that had a scene that made you feel uncomfortable. But looking back now it would be nothing in twenty twenty five tame. But maybe back then you were like, oh my god, because I just thought of one. We all watched this movie a million times as a kid, Goonies when they dropped the statue and the penis breaks off the statue. Oh my god, with that little scene when you pun attended with that scene, when you watch that, and and you know, mouth was like, yeah, that's her favorite part of the statue that when watching that with your parents, I remember having stomach aches.

00:47:39
Speaker 4: They gluted upside down.

00:47:40
Speaker 2: Yeah, they gluted.

00:47:41
Speaker 1: But when you were a weird part of the story, though, is when Rich told me this earlier. He said that giant penis, and I was like, what are you talking about.

00:47:49
Speaker 4: That is a great thought, though, Rich, because there were certain scenes in certain VHS tapes where our parents would make us hit the fast forward button top gun whenever that scene would come on where he finally looked up with his instructor. Yeah, and it's I look back at it now, it's such a lame love scene. But my mom made us fast forward that every time.

00:48:07
Speaker 2: It's funny. My dad used to love the movie and probably still does.

00:48:10
Speaker 1: Bachelor Party, Oh yeah, I don't even know, an I don't know if I know that movie, And it's entirely because my dad would let me watch. But ever so often he would just be like, put a pillow in freddyr face for us, and I would I'd have to, I'd have to do that. So I'm gonna steal a Danny g answer because I thought the same thing when we said, let's talk about this. When I was a kid, I remember listening to early Howard Stern because my dad would listen to him, and I remember he would get those but Bungo fiestas he would order those early pay per views. I'd be sneaking down the stairs just to see what was going on, like, what are they watching over here? But listening to those early radio programs, that was wow, that was way edgy for the time.

00:48:50
Speaker 4: I texted you guys this morning about this topic. That in the early nineties, my mom would not let us have Howard when he was on E. She'd make us turn the channel. I watched so much Howard Ster on E.

00:49:00
Speaker 1: Well, because you remember the commercials that were there during that Girls Gone Wild commercials were those and wild on would be.

00:49:07
Speaker 7: On after that with those episodes of Hard Stern like of the time or were they like from years prior?

00:49:13
Speaker 2: Do the TV show I worked with all those dudes?

00:49:15
Speaker 7: Man, Yeah, that was that was going on plays, but they were all current real time. They're on like eleven thirty at night on E, so we were. I was just that was what I watched as like a teenager. So funny, man, I have another one that I watched this show with my mom at this show on ABC in the mid nineties, like actually late eighties, I think pushed the envelope. Do you guys know this theme NYPD blue for both language and nudity. The show was very edgy, very raunchy, very real and also homicide Life on the Street we watched together.

00:49:50
Speaker 1: No, That's why it's a great answer, Sam, because you think from today's perspective of like this was edgy and it was that's that's how much things. Yeah, that's how much life has changed. So so let's get back to the phone calls. You know what, I have one more and then well we'll go to the feedback. I don't think anyone's gonna say this one gud. You mentioned how It Stern? Yeah, I mean he was ever the member pig Vomit in the movie. He was how It Stern is the devil. I mean, so think about where you know, especially women have learned to really own their sexuality. Right Like back in the day, I remember sitting in my room listening to Love Line. There was Doctor Judy. I know there were other ones, Doctor Ruth, but Doctor Judy was a syndicated show. And remember Doctor Drew had his show. Love Line was a big deal.

00:50:35
Speaker 4: Wasn't Adam Carolla on that show at one point?

00:50:36
Speaker 2: Adam Carolla of course.

00:50:38
Speaker 1: And now fast forward, Call Her Daddy is like one of the top podcasts in the country, and it is like it makes that seem like children's cartoons.

00:50:49
Speaker 2: What you listen to on Loveline actually helping people.

00:50:52
Speaker 7: People call in and they have like an std and they like describe it for Doctor Drew and he's like, yeah, you have.

00:50:57
Speaker 2: Now Call Her Daddy just teaches women how to give good you know too rich.

00:51:01
Speaker 1: As a parent, though, you have these viversations with your with your kids because I'll tell my daughter melody about Beavis and butt Head or something like that.

00:51:11
Speaker 2: Like with television MTV. MTV was kind of edgy.

00:51:14
Speaker 1: Yeah, and they had Beavis and butt heead but at the time that was pushing the envelope even further than The Simpsons and then of course South Park. But to me dis butt Head, yeah, Ren and Stimpy, they all pushed the envelope. So a kid will watch that today and be like, got, that's stupid, But you have to explain to them. Yeah, but at the time Beavers and Buttthead, it's like your parents or grandparents telling you like, oh, they had a blur out. They had to cut out Elvis shaking his hips. Women and men didn't sleep in the same bed in television until what was it The Flintstones or I Love Lucy one of those. Well, you know, she could have also sexuality.

00:51:50
Speaker 2: I'm pretty certain.

00:51:51
Speaker 1: This fun fact is Dawson's Creek in the two thousands had the first gay kiss on television.

00:51:56
Speaker 2: Before that, that was you know where we are in twenty twenty five compared to twenty years ago. So we've we've come a long way. So let's go to Mike in Minnesota. What's up, Mike, Hey, what's up?

00:52:07
Speaker 18: You know, so you stole the love line?

00:52:09
Speaker 10: It was one of the things.

00:52:12
Speaker 12: Yeah.

00:52:12
Speaker 18: The other one though, that I get a kick out of. It's like after watching a rerun of Wings or something. Nikita Usa, Yeah.

00:52:22
Speaker 1: Those are good ones for sure, Nikita, Chris and Indy. You're on with Kevin on retch.

00:52:28
Speaker 15: Chris, all right, you guys got my uh my wild on eve Brooke Burke scene because every few minutes you can you may be able to catch a thong. But uh so, I've got another one for you.

00:52:40
Speaker 10: You guys remember the Man Show.

00:52:42
Speaker 15: I don't remember what channel it was one.

00:52:46
Speaker 2: Yeah, Corolla, Camo back in the day. Yeah, that was, that was that was.

00:52:50
Speaker 1: That's what you know is ironic about Jimmy Kimmel today. I'm not saying people don't grow and change, but that's always what comes back at him, like, Hey, you mean the guy that had women on trampolines with the little people, And that's fine, that's funny.

00:53:04
Speaker 2: It was great. In fact, I like that version, but I mean people love to bring that up.

00:53:09
Speaker 4: He also hosted Win Benstein's Money Evan in Los Angeles.

00:53:13
Speaker 2: You're on What's Up?

00:53:13
Speaker 4: Buddy?

00:53:14
Speaker 19: Hey, what's up?

00:53:15
Speaker 14: Guys that have one that's a little bit more obscure. Do you guys remember the animated movie Heavy Metal?

00:53:19
Speaker 2: I do?

00:53:20
Speaker 9: Yeah.

00:53:21
Speaker 14: I mean my dad like would always quote that movie. I remember showing it to some friends and they go home and tell their parents and next thing you here, Well you sure it was like what you saw? Some animated tits and ass and cursing, like, get over it.

00:53:35
Speaker 2: That's so funny.

00:53:35
Speaker 12: Man.

00:53:35
Speaker 1: Hey, thank you to hear what Evan said. Catch the podcast. I don't think you can said that word. I'm not sure if you could say that, but please catch our podcast anyway. All right, yeah, thank you, Sam. So it wasn't for Fox. We couldn't say any of the words. It was considered edgy back in the day. Hey, guys, listen, we don't laugh to any dirty jokes and we don't curse in front of my parents. All right, I'd have to talk with my friends before they came in the house. All right, let's say hi to we'll go Rapid Fire and then we'll go to DB's update. We'll so with Waco Adam, you're all with Ce and R. What's up, buddy?

00:54:10
Speaker 18: Hey guys, You guys have a funny story.

00:54:12
Speaker 14: When I was fifteen or sixteen, my mom and I decided to go to the movie Theatergether. We didn't know we were going to see, so we ended up seeing something about Mury together.

00:54:19
Speaker 1: Oh the in the well, the Franken beans, the in the hair hair, Oh my god, oh yikes. You know it was pretty edgy. I'm gonna bring it back to sports just for a second. It's Fox Sports Radio. I always thought morgana the Kissing Bandit was kind of edgy because she came out of bouncing around. If you remember, I thought el Viro's kind of edgy. She was showing a lot back then. I'd stay up late for it. Could I tell you that? My brother is newly single, just went through a divorce, and it was the most cringey thing is you know, we're all adults now. My mom, in front of me and my brother, said well, Jimmy, you're single now, like when you go on these dates, like how long are you waiting to have sex with these random women? My brother and I like Jesus from Mom, that's it. My Mom's like, we're all adults.

00:55:04
Speaker 2: No, we're not. We don't know.

00:55:05
Speaker 1: These are lines we don't cross. We leave the room and there's a nudie scene. We do not have these conversations. And you know what, just to take you back to that mindset we talked about the scrambled channels. You know, you stayed up late watching that HBO jingle, that feature presentation waiting for a rated R.

00:55:22
Speaker 2: You're like, come on, rated R.

00:55:24
Speaker 1: Let's go, yes, rated, Let's go back to the rapid fire as soon as you finish this lyric for me that you were scared to sing as a kid. Ready, Yeah, old miss John Glenn listen, beat Patterson, Pope, Paul Malcolm X, British politician, sick JFK blown away.

00:55:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not singing that John and Montana. What's up? Johnny?

00:55:48
Speaker 10: Hey, what's up?

00:55:48
Speaker 12: Guys?

00:55:49
Speaker 3: Hey?

00:55:49
Speaker 5: Real quick with a rapid fire kind of took the Beavis butthead here, But uh, that was my whole thing is a like an eight nine year old kid, and then my older to a little movie called So Bigger Longer Ut.

00:56:04
Speaker 1: Yeah, way that's great, way different. And you know what, it's so tough to monitor as a parent, like you're gonna try to keep euphoria away from your teenage kids. They're exposed to so much.

00:56:18
Speaker 2: It's horrible, it really is.

00:56:19
Speaker 1: But like it's almost something you need to prepare them for because there's no way to stop it.

00:56:24
Speaker 4: Our teenager watches Love Island, right, and I don't like it, but there's no way I can.

00:56:29
Speaker 1: Stop her, stop it. All the kids are talking about phone, Yeah, exactly, go to a friend's house. It's there's no way. So they're exposed to so much. You almost have to you know, not necessarily, uh, you know, giving advice here, but you almost have to just be a good parent, guide them the right way and hope they make the right decisions because you can't keep this stuff away from the right Dan, do you have a teenage daughter watching Love Island? What do you think that's not gonna happen? And it's as simple as them. Like, for you to be exposed to something, it's because you found it in the street somewhere, or you found your dad's collection or whatever happen by chance. You almost now it's a link. Your kid opens a link could be something terrible, So you just got to tell them, Look, that's not the norm and make good choices. Like Rich said, No Dylan in Illinois, what's up Dylan?

00:57:13
Speaker 12: Hey, I got one that kind.

00:57:16
Speaker 20: Of blurs the lines of an energy.

00:57:19
Speaker 8: Hey, if you guys remember talk sex with Sue Johanson, but a little old lady would talk about everything.

00:57:26
Speaker 10: From like physicians to the things they've been throwing on the court at w NBA game.

00:57:31
Speaker 2: Yeah, that sound like a doctor, Rufe.

00:57:34
Speaker 7: That's a very doctor and I were talking about it was like better sex end you're getting in high school, absolutely better. And she was a Canadian and should come on and I think on e after Howard Stern, anyone ever find it.

00:57:43
Speaker 2: Weird than in school?

00:57:44
Speaker 1: It was like the random gym teacher that had to like talk to you guys about stuff like that. Mister buzzcut taught you about puberty's rob you're on what's up?

00:57:56
Speaker 2: What up?

00:57:57
Speaker 4: Texas?

00:57:58
Speaker 1: He?

00:57:58
Speaker 3: Uh?

00:57:59
Speaker 21: Yeah, So back in the day when you had to pay one hundred dollars for a video membership and DHS just came out for my uncle bringing home risky Business and the parents and all the adult sittings back to our bedrooms, good to bed early.

00:58:14
Speaker 5: And watching it.

00:58:16
Speaker 3: What I thought he was going to say.

00:58:17
Speaker 1: I thought he was going to say when you would go to the video store and they had the one part where it was behind like the beaded door and like you would see like your you know, your neighbor back there.

00:58:25
Speaker 2: What does he do?

00:58:25
Speaker 15: Oh?

00:58:26
Speaker 2: Can't go back there? Hiding in Florida? What's up? Hidi? Hey, Heidi, Hey, Hey Hey.

00:58:30
Speaker 19: For me, I was a young teenager and I had the album Donna Summer and she had the song loved to love You Baby, and it went it got very orgasmic.

00:58:43
Speaker 10: That was like, oh wow, love me baby.

00:58:50
Speaker 1: I'm wearing a Playboy T shirt today. This is in reference to a Muhammad Ali article that they wrote in seventy four Playboy. But to think that this doesn't even exist because we're so past the envelope. That's not enough, it's not enough. Play was his risk if you got your hands on a VHS.

00:59:06
Speaker 2: This is risk as a guy.

00:59:08
Speaker 1: Steven Odessa wrap it up and then we'll go to Dan for an update. What's up, Steve?

00:59:11
Speaker 20: What's up? Guys? A long time? Second time? I remember and my mom worked nights as a product of a single mom, and when I was a kid, there was a late night show on East Field called The Hitchhiker.

00:59:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember that.

00:59:23
Speaker 20: It was like a thirty minute kind of sludy. I kind of mixed some horror in there, but that was like my first introduction staying up late at night just to you know, catch thirty minutes. I'm hoping they'd have a nudity because I always say bad language.

00:59:35
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it was great. It was very up.

00:59:38
Speaker 1: It was very tales from the cryptish kind of the Hitchhiker. Good one, dude, There's just five words to say as you go down, down, down.

00:59:54
Speaker 2: Oh, I gotta lower it. My mom's coming. I'll lower it a What are you listening to, Steven? Why are you the devil? Oh no, my mom's virgineers.

01:00:08
Speaker 3: You can't believe all the things that go wrong in my life.

01:00:14
Speaker 2: I was such a rebel little kid. I had the best childhood.

01:00:17
Speaker 1: I was so mad try and not live on the joven Na, the Snyder, my hero bro So Cavino and Rich. You know how he said sex was a dirty word, and all your songs, of course, if it was sung in front of your parents, it was a nightmare. I remember hell was a dirty word.

01:00:37
Speaker 3: In Hell.

01:00:38
Speaker 1: I remember doing a talent show and it was bon Jovi and I was in great. I was like fifth grade or whatever.

01:00:45
Speaker 2: You promised me, heaven, you put me through hell?

01:00:48
Speaker 1: Right, we had to say put us, put you through pain or heck or something that because you couldn't say that in front of people because it was pushing the envelope. You so different from today's world. You know, it's a dirty word in today's world. My kids will say, like you said the S word. I'm like, I said the S word like like poop like that, Like, no, Dad, you said stupid. I'm like my kids thinks like kids now they good though you want to Yeah. Teachers, yeah, teachers will tell the kids something they hear that like stupid, dumb and like words it demean others. So I was reading Doctor Sus the other day and there's like I was the like we're reading like one fish, two fish, red fish, bluefish, and like they're like and the fat one am.

01:01:33
Speaker 2: I was like, who is fat a dirty word?

01:01:35
Speaker 20: There?

01:01:35
Speaker 2: That's a dirty word.

01:01:36
Speaker 4: They wanted to like take fat out of like a roll doll book like somebody didn't.

01:01:39
Speaker 2: I'm like, what a doing? That's a word?

01:01:41
Speaker 1: What what's a descriptor? I feel it was coming back. Fat Fats was making a come back. Came back in my living room last night when I was watching Big Poppy. Well no, and then you said, Alejandro Kirk, look at that Fat. I'm like, be nice, be nice. He beat your Yankee. He came back yesterday for me when I was watching Yankees loose. All right, So tomorrow, Rich, is big TV game of the week. Oh yeah, buddy, plus our new game, brain Wave, and I think we perfected it. So you want to call up tomorrow play brain Wave for some ceing our prizes. Get you ready for the weekend with weekend hob Nobbin. But right now, Rich, get us ready for Thursday night football. Eagles at the Giants. Are we hyped about Jackson dart Or? What is this his big like main stage premiere, Like we're all tuning in watching this, dude. The games at the Meadowlands. People hate that field, people hate the you know the conditions. But it's in New York Division rival Thursday night. You got to ask yourself what's gonna go down tonight? Eagles at Giants. I don't like to overthink these things because truthfully, we've been doing a pretty good job on these teaser bets on Thursday nights and Monday nights.

01:02:46
Speaker 4: In fact, wait, wait, you're being humbled nine and oh I'm nine and oh so I'm like, so now you're nervous.

01:02:52
Speaker 2: Because so weary.

01:02:52
Speaker 1: I don't want to overthink it. But my instinct is bringing me somewhere, so follow me here. And I think so the Eagles are seven and a half point favorites in New York. Well, I do think it'll be fun to watch Jackson dart and while I do think all eyes on and you know, see what happens, and you know, cam scataboo and maybe you got some new gloves.

01:03:15
Speaker 2: I'll hold onto the ball. I like taking that teaser bet seven and a half.

01:03:19
Speaker 1: Making it one and a half. I think Philadelphia wins, so Philly minus one and a half. The over under is forty one and a half. I'm tempted to go up to forty seven and a half and taking the under. I just don't see a ton and ton a ton of points being scored, So I'm liking under forty seven and a half Philly minus one and a half. Lock that in as your teaser bet. We'll see what happens. And by the way, Danny, you may have just caught a big break and error by the Philadelphia Phillies. Now has the Dodgers with first and third, two down, and you got Mookie Betts at the plate against Sanchez and want a diving played by Bryce Harper gets out of the inning. That right, there was a that was a play. We said, Bryce Harper, he's going to be the guy. So you got your Phillies Dodgers, you got your Brewers Cubs, and of course your Eagles giants. And we'll be talking about it tomorrow on the show. So I helpe all your teams win. I hope you make some money moves.

01:04:21
Speaker 2: So you think Moncey Jink shit yesterday they wore an Yankee shirt?

01:04:25
Speaker 1: Dude, If she did, I'm never talking to her again.

01:04:26
Speaker 2: Oh hi, Manzi, Oh what's going on?

01:04:29
Speaker 4: I wasn't listening.

01:04:30
Speaker 2: Did you still start over you Jinks Cavino yesterday about wearing a Yankee shirt?

01:04:33
Speaker 22: You know what, I'm sorry that I felt the same way and anymore. I wore it because I was like Aaron Judge finally, you know, like I will not take slander on just only a few people in my life. My mom, Taylor Swift Aaron Judge, Blake Griffin, stop, I like that?

01:04:49
Speaker 2: You like that? Less?

01:04:50
Speaker 3: Thank you?

01:04:50
Speaker 2: So I'm not taking place.
