Speaker 1: You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio.

00:00:04
Speaker 2: Well, if Indiana can win a football championship, we can win the sports semi. What would be a better story is that the comp Indiana wins the national championship Dan Patrick Show wins his sports semi. Well, Indiana did its part. Now it's up to us over the next two years. Come on in, we'll talk to Chase Daniel, the former NFL quarterback. He's been breaking down a lot of tape on the playoff quarterbacks. And also Fernando Mendoza. He'll join us coming up. Congrats to the Indiana Hoosiers winning the national championship, but also congrats to the U back in relevance and went toe to toe and could have won that game. I do have the national title odds for next year. According to DraftKings, Indiana and Ohio State are the co favorites there, followed by Texas Notre Dame, Oregon, Georgia, LSU, Texas, tech A, and m Alabama and Miami Florida. The betting lines for the NFL games, the Patriots still five and a half point favorites in Denver and the Rams now getting two and a half against Seattle.

00:01:11
Speaker 3: I thought it started out.

00:01:12
Speaker 2: One and a half, but it's now two and a half eight seven seven to three. DP Show email address Dpatdanpatrick dot com, Twitter handle at DP show.

00:01:22
Speaker 3: Good morning.

00:01:22
Speaker 2: If you're watching on peacock, thank you for downloading the app our streaming partner. We say good morning to our radio affiliates as well.

00:01:29
Speaker 3: SATAN. Poll question for hour two would be, we actually have a bunch of poll questions up there right now already.

00:01:36
Speaker 4: Actually, Indiana football national title story is most similar to the miracle on Ice twenty sixteen, Leicester City twenty sixteen Cubs or the nineteen eighty three NC State team. Right now, Leicester City has thirty seven percent of that vote, followed by the Chicago Cubs.

00:01:52
Speaker 3: Let's go get the Cubs out of there. We also socks in there the four Red Sox. Yeah, that could have been a good one too. It was a good one.

00:02:03
Speaker 4: I feel like the Red Sox are more competitive than the Cubs over the years.

00:02:07
Speaker 3: But maybe not.

00:02:08
Speaker 4: Let's see. We also have one here from Todd can we overstate how big Indiana's accomplishment in the.

00:02:15
Speaker 3: History of sports lore? Right now?

00:02:17
Speaker 4: Sixty six percent say no? And also from Todd what type of NFL career will Fernando Mendoza have? Elite average or disappointing average? Has seventy two percent of that vote. Second place disappointing.

00:02:30
Speaker 2: Chase Daniel from the Mothership The Chase Daniels Show on YouTube Must See TV as he breaks down the playoff quarterbacks and Fernando Mendoza. What kind of pro do you think Fernando Mendoza is gonna be?

00:02:42
Speaker 3: Chase so elite?

00:02:44
Speaker 5: You're talking like mahomes Lamar Jackson, borrow all those I mean, like, I don't think he's gonna be like that. But I really like the way he's played in college, and you even go back to his.

00:02:55
Speaker 6: Time at Cal and he just has something about him.

00:03:00
Speaker 5: I know the OC really well at Indiana, so I know the inner workings that he's extremely smart.

00:03:06
Speaker 6: And when you watch him, and you were watching him last night, right, he gets a bloody lip.

00:03:09
Speaker 5: He goes through and you look at the stat line and you're like, well, he didn't even throw for two hundred yards and no touchdowns, no interceptions, all this stuff. But you just really look at a couple plays in that game, the fourth down to Becker right, a couple of these back shoulder throws and then his Heisman moment, the National championship moment on fourth and five with Fernando Mendoza.

00:03:31
Speaker 6: You're calling a quarterback draw versus.

00:03:34
Speaker 5: That Miami defense, and Miami the de coordiner came out and said, we even knew it was gonna happen. He just finds ways to will your team to victory. I mean, look, he would have already been taken number one, but his playoff run going back to the Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship game and then his entire playoff run against these defenses, to me, he's easily cemented himself as the number one pick.

00:03:57
Speaker 6: It's not even question.

00:03:59
Speaker 3: Yeah, I just not sure.

00:04:01
Speaker 2: And once again I know we're we're we just put the national title game to rest, but looking forward, moving forward, I don't know what I see there, Like I see you see Kirk Cousins less athletic, Andrew luck Is, Joe Flacco.

00:04:18
Speaker 3: Like I I'm not quite sure.

00:04:20
Speaker 2: And look I would take that if I'm the Raiders and I get any one of those three. Yeah, but I'm just not sure what I'm seeing with.

00:04:28
Speaker 5: Well and and and I think a lot of people are are you Dan? That's why I was sort of hoping Dante Moore would come out because for me, when I break down Dante Moore, yeah, he's not.

00:04:39
Speaker 6: As polished, but the ceiling's much higher.

00:04:41
Speaker 5: When you get for Nana Mendoza, he's already so polished and whatever you're talking about. This next jump to the NFL where they're all grown. Man, they're all good stuff. You look at ceiling like how much better can you get? And so when I'm breaking them down to me, the number one thing that I see in a scouting importance like, I just love the way he plays like passion poison heart, Like you can't measure that right. You have to have a strong enough arm to make all the throws, and I think he's shown that with these back shoulder throws. I think he's more athletic than you think. He's got a stronger arm than you think. The one thing that NFL coaches are gonna love, and especially Tom Brady when they take him at number one, is his eyes are never in the wrong spot, so he never gets confused. He's extremely smart. And I'm talking to some of these Indiana coaches and they're like, you're exactly right on that he just knows exactly where to look versus pressure.

00:05:32
Speaker 6: He's a real cerebral type quarterback. I think he progresses really well, he sees it really well, and mechanically he's really solid.

00:05:40
Speaker 5: The one thing I think that a lot of people are gonna see is like, hey, his pocket mechanics, meaning how does he feel in the pocket versus mundy pot because you're gonna get a lot of muddy pockets in the NFL.

00:05:50
Speaker 6: I think that's something that really needs to be improved on.

00:05:52
Speaker 5: I think there was a stat in the game to start the second half, three pass attempts, three sacks, right, and he ended up getting going in the fourth quarter. But that's sort of the early scouting report and it's just almost by default because the Raiders need a quarterback and there's really no other quarterbacks that even remotely stand a chance. So I think with great coaching, with good people around him, you have Ashton Genty brock Bauers. If you go out and get a receiver. The one thing I'm worried about the Raiders, Zough is that offensive line is pretty bad.

00:06:22
Speaker 3: Well, segue unto the NFL. What has happened to CJ? Stroud.

00:06:28
Speaker 6: Wow, that is that's a great question.

00:06:30
Speaker 5: I actually called so the ESPN had an alternative cast on the app and we called both of CJ. Stroud's games up there in Bristol on the ESPN. The app, it's the playbook game where it's analytics, so I got to really dive into not only him playing the game, but analytically too. And I actually really thought he played a little bit better weeks one through I think eleven.

00:06:55
Speaker 3: Not great.

00:06:55
Speaker 5: Still took a lot of sacks. Still, that offensive line's pretty bad. And then when he went out with injury and watched Davis Mills play for those three weeks, I thought he came back and.

00:07:05
Speaker 6: Was on fire.

00:07:06
Speaker 5: I think it was weeks thirteen through eighteen, I thought he played really really well, saw the field really well. And then it's just the regression in the playoffs. It's one of those things where if he's not seeing the first read clearly and he's having a hard time progressing within the pocket to his next read, that's where it gets muddy and he just makes bad decisions, right, you know it more than anyone quarterback play, especially in the NFL, is Yeah, you gotta have all the arm strength in the throat. You can't make bad decisions. You can't turn the football over and expect to win. Right, he was the liability. And I think when you get in a point like that, and you get in a point where you're just pressing constantly, more bad plays are.

00:07:46
Speaker 6: Gonna happen to you.

00:07:48
Speaker 5: And it's just I don't think that they're gonna move on from I think they're gonna pick up the fifth year option. But it is getting to a point where if you aren't sure that CJ. Shroude your guy, you gotta start looking elsewhere. You know, everyone remembers the rookie season, but those next two have just been okay.

00:08:05
Speaker 2: And this is the danger that we see. We saw this with Tua, we saw this with Kyler that I got to be sure if I'm giving you a couple of hundred million dollars, I'm sorry, I might be hurting your feelings.

00:08:18
Speaker 3: You got to show me one more year. And even with c J.

00:08:21
Speaker 2: Stroud, you might show me one more year. I'll franchise, Like, I'm just not giving you that kind of money. If you said to Miami you can do a do over, they would do a do over, you know. Arizona with Kyler Murray. There's certain guy you know, Josh Allen got extended after I think three years. I understand that, or Joe Burrow, but these guys aren't Joe Burrow and Josh Allen. So that temptation of or I'm going to hurt your feelings if I don't extend you, Ma, I'm sorry.

00:08:51
Speaker 3: This is big boy business here.

00:08:53
Speaker 5: Yeah, I couldn't agree more in the way that it's situated with first round picks. I'm sure a lot of people follow and understand. You have the fifth year option, then you can technically go back to back franchise.

00:09:01
Speaker 6: Tags, so you have a first year pick.

00:09:03
Speaker 5: Under contract for seven years without you having to actually extend them. Now, a lot of people don't do that all at Kirk Cousins because it gets really expensive and those franchise tags are guaranteed money, so they still have a little bit of time. I think when you looked at and talked to Damiico Ryans or when he had his postgame interview, he was like, hey, we got a little bit of time here. But during that time, it's like, hey, we got to start looking at Hey, what's in the draft, what's there, and what's in free agency, so you do have a little bit of time because technically first round picks you can have them in our contract.

00:09:33
Speaker 6: Really for seven years.

00:09:35
Speaker 2: Chase Daniel ESPN, NFL college football analyst and part of the Athletics Scoop City podcast and host of The Chase Daniels Show on YouTube.

00:09:45
Speaker 3: Would you have moved on from Sean McDermott in Buffalo.

00:09:50
Speaker 7: That?

00:09:51
Speaker 5: I mean everything I know about Sean McDermott, I love him, and I think he's one of the better coaches. I think this is something and I know it's been heard, but I've heard as well. It's like you almost reach a ceiling with him and the message gets stale.

00:10:07
Speaker 6: I think a little bit.

00:10:08
Speaker 5: Right when you get to the division round, you get the AFC Championship around a couple of times, and you lose to the quarterbacks.

00:10:13
Speaker 6: You lose to This was the year, Dan, that they were supposed to do it right.

00:10:18
Speaker 5: They were playing really good ball, no Joe Burrow, no Lamar Jackson, no Patrick Mahomes, and in the biggest game of the year, Josh Allen lays an egg and it's it's almost like, Hey, you're really not to blame, but we got to change leadership. Right when you come back and I've I've been a part of teams like this, Like when you come back to a team after a big playoff run and you hear the same message again, You're like, well, what's gonna change? Right, what's gonna change? We have we have one of the best, if not the best quarterbacks in all the NFL.

00:10:48
Speaker 6: We have a decent team.

00:10:49
Speaker 5: We've constructed an okay roster with brandonon Bean. But when you come back as a player and you hear Sean McDermott say this is what we're gonna do, and it really doesn't I'm not saying it doesn't change, right, I know I'm not in that room, but it's just the same message over and over again. You're expecting different results that the definition's insanity.

00:11:08
Speaker 6: It's a tough business.

00:11:09
Speaker 5: I mean, who would have thought ten ten teams would have been without head coaching jobs and especially with the quarterbacks that they have. So this is easily the most important higher I think in Bill's history, because you look at what you have with Josh Allen everyone.

00:11:24
Speaker 6: I mean, how do you think it.

00:11:25
Speaker 5: Would have played out with harball in Stefanski? Like I don't think they go to their places. I think they go to Buffalo because it's, without a doubt, of all the openings you have Josh Allen, and it's just it's a tough business.

00:11:39
Speaker 2: But if Sean McDermott a better coach, if Josh Allen doesn't throw interceptions.

00:11:45
Speaker 6: That's a great point.

00:11:46
Speaker 2: I mean really, that's if they win, and then you're gonna have them against New England, he might be going to the show.

00:11:54
Speaker 3: He's in the NFC title game.

00:11:56
Speaker 5: And that's why I think it's just so like there's so many decisions in game, right, Like what happens if that's a catch rather than an interception?

00:12:03
Speaker 6: Yeah, what happens. But here's the thing though, did you agree with Josh? Yeah? Well, I mean you're gonna get me.

00:12:09
Speaker 8: Yeah.

00:12:09
Speaker 6: I thought it was absolutely an interception.

00:12:12
Speaker 5: He never controlled the ball going to the ground, that the DB's hand was in there and the ball was coming loose, so I thought it was I thought it was the correct call.

00:12:21
Speaker 2: You know what I'm finding players, former players think it's an interception, where most fans think it's a catch.

00:12:29
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, who do you trust, right, I mean, but I I think to me, it's like it's so hard to understand what a what a catch is nowadays. But you also look at McDermott, Go back to McDermott. You look at the decision at halftime with sixteen seconds left to let Josh Allen.

00:12:46
Speaker 6: Throw the ball, like, like, I get it.

00:12:48
Speaker 5: But your job as a coach is to, if you know your guy's going to be that aggressive, to take the stinger out of his hands, say take a knee, let's go, let's go right and and I get it. There's like five or six plays Dan and every single game, and sometimes ownership makes rass decisions at that time. Like I think mcdermot's going to get another job. I think he's probably the best coach out there.

00:13:09
Speaker 6: But at some point the message just gets still you got to move on.

00:13:13
Speaker 2: Yeah, you see these coaches that you got Tomlin and Harbaugh who couldn't get their team over the hump. What makes you think they can get their new team, the Giants over the hump? Or if Mike comes back in coaches over the hump? It just feels like there's there's a couple of coaches who can get you there, but it doesn't work if your quarterback's not great, or you get a couple of bounces go your way, and yeah, I mean there's a lot of luck that goes in, you know, to survival here. But I mean, did Pittsburgh tune out Mike Tomlin? Did they tune out John Harbaugh?

00:13:49
Speaker 6: You know? Yeah?

00:13:50
Speaker 5: I mean, look like I was saying, I do think the message gets a little bit stale and at some point, like it's almost like Andy Reid leaving Philly, right and Sean Payton leaving New Orleans. Sometimes you just need to change, and not only the change for the head coach, right, but a change.

00:14:09
Speaker 6: For the team as well.

00:14:11
Speaker 5: And you look at the hiring cycles so far and it's it's pretty interesting. The first four head coaches all have prior head coaching experience, so I know Halfley with the head coach at BC, but I think that's where a lot of these things are moving.

00:14:23
Speaker 6: Now. I think you're gonna get into some offensive coordinator hires.

00:14:27
Speaker 3: All right, Is cam Ward a franchise quarterback?

00:14:30
Speaker 6: I mean yeah, I think so, without a doubt.

00:14:33
Speaker 5: It's gonna be interesting to see who Robert Sala brings in to be the OC because I was really surprised actually that they went defensive higher there when you have your franchise quarterback. I think without a doubt he does. I think they need to completely renovate that entire offense. I think they need a little bit better help offensively, offensive line, the receivers. But what cam Moore has shown in the short amount of time, it's been great.

00:15:00
Speaker 6: Now his his next step.

00:15:03
Speaker 5: To me is how does he handle the new offensive system right? Because I wonder if they bring in an offensive coordinator that's an under center, play action type or are you going to bring in a spread it out type style like.

00:15:17
Speaker 6: Mike m Daniels. To me, makes a lot of sense.

00:15:19
Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I mean, think about what he has and then think about cam Ward, who is a better thrower in my mind of the football than Tuah. And to his offense with all those ships and all those motions and all this stuff like that. But I liked Kim Ward every every time I've seen him play, and he just he's the least talked about number one pick in the in the history of number one pix because he went to the Tennessee Titans and they sucked and they hired their head coach.

00:15:42
Speaker 3: And all stuff.

00:15:43
Speaker 2: So he was in the same draft with Shudor Sanders, So that's yeah, that's why he's got over. I mean, Tyler Shuck had a really good year for New Orleans and nobody talked about that either.

00:15:55
Speaker 3: So I'll leave you with this.

00:15:57
Speaker 2: If you're Sean Payton and you got Jared Stidham, now, how do you like? What kind of offense can you have against New England?

00:16:05
Speaker 6: Yeah?

00:16:05
Speaker 5: I mean I did the New England game up there at ESPN two on the app and the altcast, and New England to me, defensively, they do so many different things to confuse the quarterback. When I'm out there and I have the clicker and I'm just watching it on my iPad, I'm like, what coverage are they in? So imagine being on the field trying to see this and you haven't started a game in forever. The one thing about Jared Sidham as a quarterback, like the team loves him and not only loves him, but loves what he could do. He's played really well the times he's done. Here's one thing about Sean Payton, and this is talking from a backup quarterback standpoint where I've come in in a short week's rest Thanksgiving Day twenty eighteen and was able to go out there and play really well. Sometimes as a backup, when you don't overthink it and you're not trying to get so involved in the game plan, you just go out there and play and just let your adrenaline take over and let your pure progression passing take over.

00:17:02
Speaker 6: I like it.

00:17:03
Speaker 5: I think Sean, knowing who Sean is at his core, he's gonna make this work. And I do think they probably are more aggressive than a lot of people think throwing the football. He's not changing the game plan. I promise you that it is the exact same game plan. They're gonna go in and look, probably take the quarterback run out, they have to muster up some type of run game. But I really think they're gonna be aggressive throwing the football down the field, and I think the city plays pretty well.

00:17:32
Speaker 2: Great stuff is always Thank you, Chase, Thanks Dan. That's Chase Daniel, ESPN NFL College Football Analysts. Make sure you check out the Chase Daniel Show. 00:18:32
Speaker 2: A story that's not gonna get a lot of attention, but it should. The Seahawks are gonna be without their leading touchdown score for the remainder of the season. Zach Sharbonet has a torn ACL and he's one of those sneaky good running backs. You have him with Kenneth Walker the third and it's a two headed monster there. They need their running game. He's had a nice season, but out with a torn ACL. Oh boy, Walker has been great, coming off three touchdowns there in that big win against San Francisco. But charbon a is and I think at one point a couple of weeks ago, DraftKings had him as the favorite for any time touchdown in the Super Bowl.

00:19:19
Speaker 3: That's how valuable stat of the day.

00:19:21
Speaker 2: Brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show.

00:19:27
Speaker 3: Solomon in La, I Solomon.

00:19:31
Speaker 10: Well, hi, Dan, thanks to think on my call. You know, I don't have a dog in the fight. Didn't have a dog in the Fighter's a us la, ma'am. But I was pulling for Miami to pull the upsets, and I think they could have. Their special teams were gone awful and all game long, Miami is down three points, They're down ten points, They're down three points, are down ten points, of course because the kicker couldn't make a field goal. That's his second bump in the playoffs, and that mini touchdown on awful. Get that time on the punt.

00:20:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, they were only sending three and they still block the punt. Kurt Signetti this season, he got two million dollars, by the way, for winning the National Championship, his incentives for the playoffs for the year, for being coach of the year four point two million dollars. You add that to nine point nine base pay, so he's at fourteen point one. So because Indiana won the national championship, they reached the national title. Indiana, from what I've told, Will negotiating good faith to ensure that he is ranked no less than the third highest paid active coach Kirby Smart. Then it's Lane Kiffen, Then it's Ryan Day. Kirby Smart makes three point thirteen point three, Kiffin makes thirteen, and Ryan Day makes twelve point six. Signetti is likely to get a three million dollar annual adjustment to his compensation.

00:21:03
Speaker 3: How about that.

00:21:06
Speaker 2: Best money they ever spent at Indiana? Best money? Our two pole question Seeton, can you give me a yes?

00:21:15
Speaker 11: PAULI, I have an update on a pole question. Oh good, okay, based off that last call, if you're a fan of a Big ten team, not Indiana, were you rooting for Indiana to win or lose last night?

00:21:30
Speaker 3: So if you're a Big ten fan.

00:21:33
Speaker 11: You're a Big ten fan of any other team?

00:21:35
Speaker 2: Oh, I think you're rooting for Indiana. I think you're rooting for the Big ten. I think Michigan and Ohio State, Oregon, they probably look at Indiana and go.

00:21:43
Speaker 3: But it's a cute story. But you know, we're sustainable. They're not.

00:21:48
Speaker 2: They probably still don't look at Indiana and go. Man, we're gonna have to deal with them next year and the year after that. Yeah, rooting for them is tough because if you're a Big Ten fan, you want the national champion to be in the Big Ten. But it's tough to root for another team that you're normally either rivals with or you're competing against.

00:22:08
Speaker 3: You know, what, can you say? I'm fine with Indiana winning. I mean, I'd rather than win than Miami, I guess.

00:22:14
Speaker 2: But but doesn't the Big Ten make money off Indiana as far as you know, the further they go, so you do make money.

00:22:22
Speaker 4: I think if Ohio State was gonna say, that's nice the money that you contributed this year, However, I think we're Lucas in Texas.

00:22:31
Speaker 12: Hi, Luke, what's on your mind? Hey Dan, good morning, Good morning. Two things from last night. Number one, go back and listen to the audio of that punt block. You can hear the roar of the Indiana fans right before it happens. They realized it really cool to hear and uh.

00:22:49
Speaker 2: Marvin, Marvin, would you play that and then I'll get back to Luke.

00:22:53
Speaker 3: Bill and Joyce back rode his own two to take the snap.

00:22:57
Speaker 11: Man, it's back to him.

00:22:58
Speaker 3: Man, the punt is black Cat.

00:23:02
Speaker 5: Just picked up to.

00:23:04
Speaker 1: Ishisaia Jones pumped up.

00:23:08
Speaker 5: Well the t is why but come got the block of a kick.

00:23:13
Speaker 2: There were a lot of Indiana fans. There a lot of fans. That's courtesy of lear Field Sports. All right, Luke, what else do you have?

00:23:21
Speaker 8: Yeah?

00:23:21
Speaker 13: The other thing for mister buzzkill Todd in the back not really getting the overstatement of the moment. I'll try to put it in terms maybe he could get. Let's say that Travis Kelsey is a pad.

00:23:35
Speaker 3: Oh, we can't even give the scenario. You happy with that.

00:23:38
Speaker 14: Time happens, That's what you're going to try to get.

00:23:40
Speaker 2: Cute, Luke, would you try to call us back? Zach and Idaho, Hi, Zach? What's on your mind today?

00:23:47
Speaker 6: Ally?

00:23:47
Speaker 7: What's going on?

00:23:48
Speaker 8: Dan?

00:23:48
Speaker 15: First time A long time five eight hefty two fifty. I just wanted to say, as a Raiders fan, I kind of had your same sentiment as Forrest Andanana Mendoza. I wasn't super excited, but I know we need one, but there was one play that got me excited, and it's not one you're thinking of this about third quarter, halfway through the edge dresser came in clean off the right tackle and smacked his arm real hard.

00:24:17
Speaker 7: And the way he held onto the football that leaned in and just took the sack.

00:24:22
Speaker 15: Man he looked professional.

00:24:23
Speaker 3: Well, he's gonna have to get used to that.

00:24:25
Speaker 2: With the Raiders offensive line of you know, defenders coming through and smacking him. He got hit a few times early. I thought one should have been called for roughing. There were probably three of them early, but any he took those hits. Donna in New York, Hi, Donna, what's on your mind?

00:24:47
Speaker 10: Oh? Good morning?

00:24:48
Speaker 3: I am.

00:24:50
Speaker 7: I'm upset over Sean McDermott being fired. We hasn't heard from Josh Allen.

00:25:02
Speaker 3: Does he do an exit interview during the week, Paul.

00:25:07
Speaker 11: I don't see anything that says players have to do exit interviews. Some do, but mostly it's coaches and gms this week, okay.

00:25:15
Speaker 3: And I don't know where he's living.

00:25:17
Speaker 2: I know his wife is pregnant, so I don't know if they're in Buffalo, but and I don't know if Josh wants to get in front of a microphone and talk about this. You know, somebody said this to me, why didn't Mike Tomlin get a chance to hold a press conference?

00:25:38
Speaker 3: And I went, I don't know. I mean, he doesn't have to.

00:25:43
Speaker 2: But the point that was being made to me is maybe Tomlin got fired because he didn't get to hold a press conference. And I go, I still think he stepped down. Somebody who is close to the situation told me that he stepped down. Also told me that doesn't see Tomlin coaching anytime soon and is not sure if Tomlin's going into broadcasting.

00:26:08
Speaker 3: So that's all I know.

00:26:10
Speaker 2: I don't know anything about an exit interview for the head coach who stepped down or the quarterback who lost.

00:26:17
Speaker 3: You know, in the playoffs.

00:26:18
Speaker 11: Yes, as a member of the media, we'd all be in favor of a post firing mandatory interview.

00:26:24
Speaker 3: I'm fine with that.

00:26:26
Speaker 11: Uncomfortable.

00:26:26
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's all about content for me. It's not my coach, not my team. Dave and Charleston, Hi, Dave, what's on your mind today?

00:26:35
Speaker 8: Hey? Good morning, Dan? How are you doing. It's Morren great, third time, short time six two. So I think you guys have got some good ideas of who should play Kurt Signetti. But I've got two guys that you guys have totally looked over. JK. Simmons and Stephen Root.

00:26:53
Speaker 3: JK.

00:26:54
Speaker 2: Simmons to Jacked Stephen Root? Who in Barry office space?

00:27:07
Speaker 3: Okay, Red swing Land Stapler.

00:27:11
Speaker 2: I think Greg Kannear would be your guy. How old is Greg Knear? He's probably late fifties.

00:27:16
Speaker 11: Greg Kanear just turned sixty two.

00:27:18
Speaker 2: Okay, he looks good, looks young. He looks like he's late fifties. But I could see him. He's already played a coach in Dick vermil By. The way, I watched the movie yesterday afternoon, and it is called Nebraska. Now, it's not Bruce Springsteen movie. It's Nebraska, and it is a sneaky I think great movie. Will Forte is in there, Bob Odenkirk is in there. Bruce's name Bruce Dern. Bruce Dern. Yes, it's spectacular. He got nominated for an Academy Award. And it's shot in black and white. It's in Nebraska, and it's shot in Nebraska.

00:27:57
Speaker 3: It is a really good movie, sneaky good.

00:28:02
Speaker 2: Now it's not you know there's no explosions, there's no you know, car chases, no nudity.

00:28:07
Speaker 3: Sorry, Todd, I'm out. Yeah. And then Jane, I think it's Jane's June squib.

00:28:13
Speaker 6: June Squib.

00:28:14
Speaker 2: June Squib is Bruce Dearn's wife, and she is, She's a hoot, Yes, Paulie.

00:28:20
Speaker 11: It got ninety five on Rotten Tomatoes, very positive reviews.

00:28:23
Speaker 3: I've watched it twice in the last week. But over the course of how many days did you watch it twice? Well?

00:28:31
Speaker 2: I watched all the way through last night, whoa all the way yesterday afternoon.

00:28:35
Speaker 3: I know, I know.

00:28:37
Speaker 2: My wife is like, are you gonna watch the whole thing? I go, yeah, I think so, And I'd already watched it before. It took me a couple of sittings. But it I don't know what you're watching tonight or tomorrow or the next day. This is one of those where we get back to our regularly schedule, you know, husbandry, Hey, Han, what.

00:28:59
Speaker 3: Do you want me to What do you need me to do?

00:29:01
Speaker 8: Uh?

00:29:02
Speaker 3: Don't you have a game or something? No?

00:29:04
Speaker 2: No, And if I did, I'd still be here in the kitchen with you. Yeah, I've done that where I'm like, hey, what do you what do you need me to do? And she goes, what times the game start?

00:29:13
Speaker 3: I go, I don't know. I'm around seven thirty. She is all right, yeah, PAULI.

00:29:16
Speaker 11: Are you guys going to get into the rip? The new Ben Affleck Matt Demons.

00:29:20
Speaker 3: I watched it already. Yeah it's a movie, not a series.

00:29:22
Speaker 11: Oh I thought it was a serious.

00:29:24
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I watched it. I like them together. Twist at the end. Uh, interesting storyline.

00:29:32
Speaker 3: I liked it.

00:29:33
Speaker 2: I liked it, but I do like those those two guys together. All right, let me see uh Gino in Virginia. Hi, Gino, what's on your mind?

00:29:44
Speaker 8: Hey?

00:29:44
Speaker 7: Gentlemen?

00:29:45
Speaker 16: Second time? Call her a long time listener. Love the show as always. Hey, got one thing also, this is a great thing for American Hispanic football. Uh, me and my son were talking to he's a senior chief in the Navy and we're talking about.

00:29:59
Speaker 5: This and since.

00:30:03
Speaker 16: Jim Punkad days, that brought a lot of Hispanic Americans. And why don't you play the Kurtkcinnati You got a lot of star power.

00:30:10
Speaker 3: Come on, dun now, you know Todd suggested this, why not you.

00:30:15
Speaker 14: Don always have to look exactly like the person.

00:30:17
Speaker 3: You can.

00:30:17
Speaker 14: You have makeup in all kinds of ways now to make you look more like somebody.

00:30:21
Speaker 2: I can give that stern look like he does when you do stupid things. I've seen that, yes, multiple time, many many times. But thank you, Gino, Thank you David Cincinnati. Hi Dave, what's on your mind?

00:30:37
Speaker 3: Hey Dave?

00:30:40
Speaker 7: How about google me?

00:30:42
Speaker 12: Now?

00:30:43
Speaker 6: The Kurt Signetti story starring Jonah Hill.

00:30:46
Speaker 2: Uh, you go back to that and he said, look, I was trying to you know, I think he was overly aggressive saying to those people and saying to the big ten in Michigan and Ohio State, you know, google me, and Uh, it was a great moment. When he's there at the basketball game. I loved it, Yes, Hun.

00:31:05
Speaker 3: And he's even a character when he doesn't mean to be.

00:31:06
Speaker 14: If you set at the beginning of the game, Holly Row went over to him for a pregame thing. He had gum in his mouth, and he takes the gum out he's holding in his hands, so they he didn't want to be rude chewing gum while he's answering a couple of quick questions.

00:31:16
Speaker 6: He's just so funny.

00:31:17
Speaker 2: Thank you ted, uh, all right, we'll update the poll results. Yeah, Boss Tucker will join his coming up top of the hour.

00:31:27
Speaker 14: That's a odd little moment. Don't see that much.

00:31:30
Speaker 4: Take my gum out, I know, especially because he couldn't like peel it out of it like he had to.

00:31:34
Speaker 3: He didn't just spit it out of his mouth. He had to peel it.

00:31:36
Speaker 4: Out of his mouth like it was in his gums. He had to take it out of a big wata dip.

00:31:40
Speaker 3: It looked like it. And that's a tough situation game.

00:31:44
Speaker 2: And you could see where they just have the coin toss and then they go down to Holly Row with a coach signetting and he's already kind of getting his players ready and what they're going to do, and you know he's coaching and and so she's kind of waiting a little bit and there it's like, hey, how do you you know, tell your kids it's not the moment's not too big.

00:32:04
Speaker 3: And then he's like, all right, thank you, coach.

00:32:08
Speaker 4: Yeah, which is a completely unnecessary interview to do absolutely nothing noslight to Holly Rose. She's great at what she does, but you're not gonna get it, you know what.

00:32:16
Speaker 3: Actually they think we're gonna throw, we're gonna run the ball constantly.

00:32:19
Speaker 4: Just a little tidbit for you here. I'm gonna give you guys that infuts. It's a completely useless thing to do. I know, I know, coach, what are you telling your kids? Just play hard, you know, do the best you can, and you know, do your job and things will work out.

00:32:35
Speaker 3: Well. All right, thanks back to you guys.

00:32:38
Speaker 2: But I do like the job opportunity for people in the business.

00:32:42
Speaker 4: Definitely not taking jobs with it. We just have to understand that it's not useful.

00:32:46
Speaker 2: Well, when they're leaving the field at halftime, I can do without that.

00:32:51
Speaker 3: Coach.

00:32:51
Speaker 2: What kind of adjustments are you gonna make? Well, you know what, come here, I got my notebook here. I don't show you everything there it is right there. We're gonna start blocking different so we can run that way. Now, what are gonna start doing that? You know what we're gonna do. We're gonna tackle in the second half. Yes, Marv.

00:33:06
Speaker 6: And you've been to a ton of these games.

00:33:08
Speaker 14: The pr person when they're guiding the coach and you see the coach giving them the just the dirtiest look like, do I have to Yes, you have to come.

00:33:15
Speaker 3: On, come on, coach.

00:33:17
Speaker 2: No, you're a rights holder, and I think you get normally two questions. You know it's negotiated. Yes, touh.

00:33:23
Speaker 14: And no matter how cleverly worded you put the question, they're not gonna say.

00:33:26
Speaker 6: Watch off of the.

00:33:27
Speaker 14: Flea flicker, A fake punt coming up in the first half. I shouldn't tell you that, but you know I love you, Holly. Fake punt and flee flicker, definitely, second quarter.

00:33:34
Speaker 3: Don't tell anybody. Don't tell anybody.

00:33:37
Speaker 2: We're gonna imagine if Sean Payton said that in the Super Bowl we're gonna open up.

00:33:43
Speaker 3: The second half with an on site kick.

00:33:45
Speaker 14: Sh Yes, Dodd not only would he not say that if we've seen what how he handled the press recently and kid that said with the downhill running, he's got no plan. Someone was wanted to ask him a thing about Bonix. He goes, here's the situation. Bnix hurt his ankle, It'll be steady, be ready to go. I will not answer any other questions about any other injuries. Got it, That's it. I'm finished with that. I'm paraphrasing, but he basically said, don't even think about asking about any other guys on the injury.

00:34:10
Speaker 3: Maybe maybe we should get the audio I'm just saying.

00:34:13
Speaker 11: Or are we now paraphrase everything?

00:34:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, that could be dangerous. You know, hey, I heard this, but I don't have it exactly right. All right, let me take a break. We'll get to more phone calls and our good buddy Ross Tucker Top of the hour.

00:34:26
Speaker 1: Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to listen live.

00:34:38
Speaker 2: By the way, we are casting the Kurt Signetti movie, and we mentioned Greg Kanear, great actor. Where is Greg Kanear from Indiana? Indiana?

00:34:51
Speaker 3: Stat of the day the day past stat of the day, stat of the day here comes that w stat of the day.

00:35:03
Speaker 2: By the way, if you would like to visit us when we're in San Francisco for the Super Bowl, the China Basin is where we're going to be set up and the backdrop is the ballpark, so georgeous. If you're watching on Peacock, we're actually giving you an aerial shot of the China Basin China Basin Park, and I want to thank the park people and also the San Francisco Giants for helping us find that location.

00:35:31
Speaker 4: Yes, so during the Bonds era when you look at McCovey Cove and everybody would be in the boats in the water waiting to catch a home run ball, we're on the other side of that water.

00:35:40
Speaker 2: Yes, that's awesome. Yeah, no, beautiful shot. The backdrop is the stadium there. But if you would like to join us, first come, first surf, and you just show up in the morning and dress warm because I think temperatures will be in the forties. I think it'll probably top out in the sixties, but probably around It can't be colder than Vegas was, right, Vegas was pretty cold. That felt like that was in the thirties. We had some heaters there. But dress just appropriately if you'd like to join us there. We'll be out there two weeks from yesterday and we'll be out there all week long. Let's see Fresh in Milwaukee. Hi Fresh. What's on your mind today?

00:36:26
Speaker 7: What's up? VP and Dan Nett? First of all, the rip, as you said, great movie. Well, I'm trying to get a professional opinion from your DP. What's the difference between Stevis and stripping the ball from Devonte Adams and McMillan's stripping it from Cooks.

00:36:43
Speaker 3: I don't know, that's my answer. I don't know. In real time, I thought it was a completion to Cooks.

00:36:57
Speaker 2: And then the more I watched it and the more I was educated on it, then I realized that, Yeah, I can see why they called it an interception. I'm shocked that they called it in interception on the field in real time because normally you would give the benefit of the doubt to the wide receiver. That's what shocked me. And then I realized they are not overturning this call, and they of course didn't. Yeah, Pauline, Yeah, it's.

00:37:22
Speaker 11: Such splitting hairs. When you watch Devonte Adams go down, he has two hands on the ball and he never doesn't until it's ripped and then Cooks as he hits the ground, his left hand flies out and the ball is more than the other guys here.

00:37:37
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's.

00:37:40
Speaker 2: I don't know how now, if I said, hey, we're going to have professional officials, that doesn't help the situation like that. I want to have the people in New York or an overhead judge who can help us get the call right. If the goal is to get the job done correctly. I don't want Walt Anderson saying, you know, we got to speed up the game here. No no, no, no, no, no, no no, We're not speeding up the game. We want to get the call right. A coach got fired for this. You got to get the call right. And you can't sit there and go all these games that last forever. College football last four hours. You got commercial inventory. I mean, nobody's going to complain about that. Networks are making money, Advertisers get you know, their products seen. We want to get the call right. It's not like we're going, hey, come on, speed this up. I mean, we might do that if it takes too long amount of time, but in that moment, as important as that play was get the call right. You can make the argument they did get it right. But I don't want to hear ahead of officials or a former officials say well you got to speed this up a little bit.

00:38:51
Speaker 3: No, you got to make sure you get the call right. Yeah. In soccer, they have a thing called VAR.

00:38:56
Speaker 4: It's a video assisted referee, and so the referees are all communicating with each other through like you know, headsets or whatever.

00:39:04
Speaker 3: But if I'm not mistaken.

00:39:06
Speaker 4: I think the broadcast team is able to hear those conversations that they're.

00:39:11
Speaker 3: Having that the referees are having.

00:39:13
Speaker 4: So you'll be watching a soccer match and you'll be like, God, that looked like a handball or whatever, like why aren't they looking at that? And then the announcer after ten seconds will say, we'll drop a little thing like well, Vaar is already taken a look at it and it's clear. And then you know, obviously they've already reviewed it and there's no handball.

00:39:29
Speaker 3: So you just move on with the play. There's no wondering like what.

00:39:31
Speaker 6: What are they doing?

00:39:32
Speaker 3: Did they miss that? How did they not see it?

00:39:33
Speaker 2: What?

00:39:34
Speaker 3: Go we had video? They tell you, Oh, they looked at it. It's already fine.

00:39:36
Speaker 1: Yeah.

00:39:37
Speaker 2: I brought that up a couple of years ago. I said, let us in on it. Let us I mean, if we're going to be transparent in the age of gambling, let us know what you're seeing in nut seeing. You need help with this, Hey, go back to the Saints game years ago. Nobody asked for any help, and they missed the call. They missed two calls on one play. Your job is to get the call right, no matter how it happens. Hey, I may have made a mistake here, Okay, you know it's a bigger mistake when you don't correct the mistake.

00:40:10
Speaker 3: We have time, Sean McDermott had time, or so he thought. So these calls are.

00:40:17
Speaker 2: Important that one. You can make the argument they did get it right, but I don't want to hear. We got to speed up the process. Yeah, Paulie.

00:40:25
Speaker 11: The ACC just started doing this this past season. They allow college football fans to watch it back and forth between the command center and the refs on the field.

00:40:34
Speaker 3: I've been saying this.

00:40:36
Speaker 2: It took forever for them to, you know, finally give us a pylon cam. I called for that for years, Like, just put cameras in there. We don't know if they broke the plane. Have a pylon cam. Let us hear what they're talking about. What are you hiding? Ross Tucker coming up in ten minutes from now on this Tuesday, more phone calls as well. Fritzy Seat and Marv Pauli and yours truly
