Speaker 1: You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio Basketball.

00:00:05
Speaker 2: Last night, the Pistons survive, and you know, it's one of those games where Kid Cunningham acted like a number one pick overall, he acted like an MVP candidate, and Palo Ben Carol put up forty five as well. Kid Cunningham, even though you know that's the guy you got to stop, they didn't stop. And credit to Detroit Magic. Still up three to two. The Calves over the Raptors. Caves are up three to two. I was all in on the Calves last year. I just liked them. I liked the story. It felt like there was a younger team coming together. This year, I am not on their radar, and they're having a little bit of trouble putting away the Raptors.

00:00:45
Speaker 3: Here.

00:00:46
Speaker 2: The Rockets over the Lakers. I'm still surprised. The Lakers are up three too. I know, with no Kevin Durant, but you don't have Luca Reeves came back last night, didn't play well, and the Rockets down three to two. So if you're looking for games coming up tonight, I got the Knicks favored by two and a half against the Hawks. The Celtics favored by five and a half against the Sixers man Boston. You can't be goofing around here because Philadelphia is still a dangerous team, even though two of their best players aren't consistently healthy with Paul George and Joe lenb The Nuggets are favored by five and a half against the Timberwolves. And then I've got point spreads for Friday night. The Pistons are favored by three and a half against Orlando, the Cavs three and a half against the Raptors, and the Lakers getting four and a half against the Rockets. I haven't seen any update on Kevin Durant and his ankle being able to come back, but if you're able to hold on get to a seventh game, maybe you get Kevin Durant back. Austin Reeves last night looked like a guy who hadn't played in a little while. Didn't look good, didn't look comfortable. Still know Luca, and the report yesterday was Luca, if the Lakers survive, probably wouldn't be back. And I look at these teams and this is just filler for me, Like, how many of these teams can win a title? Can the Rockets win a time. I mean, I know I have to give you at least a one percent chance. I can't say you have no chance. Can the Knicks win a title. I think they can go to the Eastern Conference finals. I think they could maybe go to the NBA Finals. Boston I think could well. I expect them to go to the NBA Finals, but I think they could win it. Okay, See, of course, I think the Spurs can get to the NBA Finals. They might be able to win it. I know we love to say a lot of times with teams, man, they're a year ahead of schedule. San Antonio doesn't feel that way. These players don't go, man, we're a year ahead of schedule. We're on scholarship. Here can the Lakers? No, I don't see that because you're not gonna have Luca coming back. And even if you do, when he does come back, how long does it take him to get back up to you know, all pro all you know, first team NBA reeves you're gonna get more out of you know, the longer you survive here. Who else the Rockets, I don't see that happening. So there's not a lot of teams where you go boy, the like, can Orlando win and the answer is no, can Detroit. I think Detroit's still gonna win the series. I just get that feeling Orlando had its chance. Franz Wagner not in didn't play. It feels like Detroit is gonna slug this out and somehow make it to the next round.

00:03:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, Paula Denver isn't Denver of three years ago. But I wouldn't give them I wouldn't put them in that no chance category.

00:03:49
Speaker 2: No, no, I give them a chance. I just I don't think they're They're not on the level of San Antonio. And if Aaron Gordon isn't able to play at a high level, and give credit to you know, the Chimberwolves. They played great defense here. The Nuggets scored one hundred and twenty one points per game during the regular season. They're down to one oh eight. That would be twenty nine, that would have ranked twenty ninth in the regular season. And Rudy Gobert has done a wonderful job on Joker. He is shooting thirty six percent from the floor on sixty five shots when matched up against Rudy Gobert. So Gobert has done his job and frustrated Joker. Joker did have a triple double this last game, and with the injuries with Dante DiVincenzo and Anthony Edwards, I expect the Nuggets to win this, but this is one of those you know, Minnesota might get another star that appears, or somebody who comes out of nowhere and puts up forty three and you know, will knock you out. Stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America, The official trading cards of The Dan Patrick Show.

00:05:00
Speaker 3: First Hour brought to you by Neutrofile. If your hair.

00:05:19
Speaker 5: Hi, Dylan, I think the hat's an option, but I'd like to try out this neutrofhil thing.

00:05:23
Speaker 3: I want you to try it.

00:05:24
Speaker 5: Where do we have it here?

00:05:26
Speaker 3: I can get it?

00:05:27
Speaker 5: I know people, I would I would love something.

00:05:30
Speaker 3: Because did you set a wedding date?

00:05:32
Speaker 5: Not yet?

00:05:33
Speaker 3: Okay, so you're just engaged. Yeah, it'd be nice.

00:05:37
Speaker 2: You know, maybe full head of hair walking you know, your wife down the aisle.

00:05:43
Speaker 5: Neutrofil and some steroids and maybe we could slim you up a little bit there. I'm thinking more good like Jacked.

00:05:49
Speaker 3: Oh you want to be Jack?

00:05:50
Speaker 5: Yeah, I've got the base for it, m the canvas.

00:05:54
Speaker 2: Yeah oh okay, yeah, but maybe maybe we freshen up the moss on top.

00:06:00
Speaker 5: Are going to Turkey, so I'd rather do the neutra four.

00:06:02
Speaker 3: Out of it.

00:06:02
Speaker 2: Yeah, this whole go to Turkey to get things done cosmetically, Like that's the go to place.

00:06:08
Speaker 5: You see a guy with a bleeding head. On the flight back, there's just a row of.

00:06:12
Speaker 2: Yes, there are you can see these guys who go over there for hair transplants, and then you'll see them on the plane and they all have been there, and they all have bandages on their heads, they're all stapled together. Or you got people who have had nose jobs over there. I don't know what else they're doing over there in Turkey, but probably breast enhancement, o fac sial surgery, cosmetic surgery, face lift.

00:06:37
Speaker 5: Maybe they do breast reductions. You need breast reduction. I mean, if I'm over there, may as well just throw the You.

00:06:44
Speaker 3: Know what was really bad?

00:06:46
Speaker 2: Yesterday I was having lunch and all of a sudden, Mario brings out a picture of him in Pittsburgh with Big Day Ray and they have their shirts off.

00:06:57
Speaker 5: That was me and Mario with our shirts off. So even more unfortunate for Oh, we're at We're at this bar that Todd likes referred to as Hamburger Harry's. It was not, and it was it had to have been like eighty eight degrees in there.

00:07:13
Speaker 3: And you guys took off your shirts.

00:07:14
Speaker 6: Yeah.

00:07:15
Speaker 5: We made it about an hour until a guy who worked there walked up and he was like, guys, can you put your shirts on? It's a health code violation. And I asked him. I was like, if we were in good shape, would you have told us to do that? And he was like he just walked away.

00:07:28
Speaker 2: Okay, That's why it's even more alarming at what I saw. I didn't even notice you in the picture. I noticed Mario and it and it looked like he had a breast job that that didn't work out. He's got one up here and one down here.

00:07:44
Speaker 5: They called that a botch job.

00:07:46
Speaker 2: Yes, yes, And I'm thinking, why would you if you look like that, you would take your shirt off in a bar in Pittsburgh.

00:07:55
Speaker 3: Just moxidn Oho, what it was?

00:07:57
Speaker 5: Just moxie.

00:07:58
Speaker 3: Yeah.

00:07:59
Speaker 2: By the way, there is a soft drink known as Moxie. It's still in business and it's a kind of a doctor pepper.

00:08:08
Speaker 3: It's big and main Really, yeah, you get moxie. I tried it.

00:08:14
Speaker 2: I think they have diet moxie too, but just throwing that out there as an aside.

00:08:19
Speaker 3: All right, pull question first hour. What are we going to go with here?

00:08:24
Speaker 5: Well, Dan, we got a couple, We've got some golf related ones. I don't know if you want to hold off on that or get those out into the ether.

00:08:31
Speaker 3: How about we hold off on the live questions here?

00:08:35
Speaker 5: Okay, Well we could populate this one of the first round NBA series that are not done yet. Who's the most surprising so far?

00:08:45
Speaker 2: Well, Orlando has to be up there, because you're an eight seed against the number one seed and you might be bouncing. The sixers are surprising me, and it might be Boston surprising me where I thought, Okay, just put away, don't let these guys get some confidence momentum. Embiid now kind of a springy out there, Paul, George, you know Edgecomb is really good, Maxi's really I mean, they got talent Grimes, so you just got to make sure you don't let them get squirrely again and take another game from you. But I would say Orlando surprising a lot of people because I'm guessing most people don't watch Orlando basketball, but now you're forced to. If you're, you know, looking at meaningful games, i'd probably be it. I don't know if there's any other really big surprise.

00:09:38
Speaker 5: Yes, is it surprising that the Rockets are losing to the Lakers given the Lakers personnel a little bit?

00:09:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, no, Durant there, you would expect them to be up three to two without your two best offensive players, with Reeves and Doncic.

00:09:56
Speaker 4: Yeah, Paul, I was watching the first few minutes of Lakers Rockets and I don't know how it happened, but Reed Shepherd, he's not a big guard. He was being covered by Lebron the first couple minutes of the game. It felt like bring your kid to school day. He looked like a child compared to Lebron. You kind of forget how big he is and he's just checking him outside.

00:10:15
Speaker 3: Player of the Day will be coming up stat of the Day.

00:10:17
Speaker 2: As always, we will dive into the Live Tour on life support here and there had been whispers about this for quite some time. I'm just wondering, if the Saudis have billions and billions and billions and you want to sports wash your reputation, did you accomplish what you wanted to accomplish with the live Tour? And I said from the outset, I mean I watched the dp World Tour. I watched the LPGA. I watched the PGA pros or the teachers. I don't know the official title. They're at Bandon Dune, so the PGA Championship with actually golf instructors out there playing, and you know, I would watch the Live Tour. I just didn't understand why you go fifty four holes and you get to wear shorts and play loud music and you have teams. I don't know who you were appealing to, because Deshambo is the only player that you actually tune in to see. Dustin Johnson used to be a great player. John Rahm is a great player. He's just not must see TV. Deshambo is Patrick reed. You may tune in just for attitude. Cam Smith great putter, but really you know Keopka when he defected and now Patrick Reed, and if you want to come back, it's going to cost you the value of coming back if they allow you to come back, because I think they had a one time offer. You want to come back, this is what you have to do. And Keoepka came back, agreed to what the stipulations were, and it's going to be around fifty to seventy million dollars with money that he could have earned, tournaments he could have played in. But he is back, and I mean he's still a good player and people still like watching him. But I don't know if they're going to let these other players in. If you're the PGA Tour, you know what kind of did you set your precedent? And then are you still going to You want to Shamba back, you want John Ron back. Patrick Reed is coming back. But after that, you know where these golfers going to go? Are they going to play on the European Tour, the DP World Tour. So there's a lot of things attached to this, and I'll go back to there were some broadcasters with liv who were kind of critiquing criticizing mainstream media for celebrating the death of Live.

00:12:51
Speaker 3: I'm not celebrating it, but I know.

00:12:53
Speaker 2: That it was a rival league to take down the PGA Tour, and I didn't want that to happen. PGA Tour is ours, the Live Tour is not. It's not ours, and I wanted the PGA Tour to wake up and realize, spend the money, make sure you take care of your players and listen to them, and don't treat this as a monopoly. Greg Norman did not want to make the PGA Tour better. Greg Norman wanted to bring down the PGA Tour. This has been a mission, a life's mission for over thirty years. Well, it didn't work. But I will talk to Brandal Shambly about what did Live accomplish. Did they accomplish what they wanted to accomplish.

00:13:37
Speaker 3: Yes.

00:13:37
Speaker 5: Dealing Well, the money side of it's interesting because it's not like they're like, oh, we're out of funds. Like the PIF owns eight percent of shares in Saudi A Ramca, which is a two trillion dollar company. They're not short on money at all. I think you know five years nowhing's really changed. It's probably gone actually down.

00:14:00
Speaker 3: Well, they haven't gotten anybody in the last what three years.

00:14:03
Speaker 5: Now, and then now you're trying to recruit outside capital to come in that Why would you invest in a dying product if you're just you know whatever, a VC fund or something.

00:14:16
Speaker 2: Well, but once again, I don't know. If money is not an issue, why not just continue it? Like I think, I think they probably got bored in Saudi rate. I think the novelty probably wore off. You know, maybe they accomplished what they wanted to. They're they're trying to clean up their image and they're trying to do this through sports. Maybe they did that. Maybe they accomplished what they wanted to. But fifty four holes, loud music and playing in your shorts. Sorry, I'd rather watch some of my friends play golf over the weekend, you know, Yes, I.

00:14:55
Speaker 5: Mean you can tell by the fact that they moved back to seventy two holes.

00:14:58
Speaker 3: Yes, they're like.

00:15:00
Speaker 5: Maybe this was actually, you know, not too bad.

00:15:02
Speaker 2: Well, they made it sound like, oh my god, we're playing fifty four and I go, that's stupid, Like what golf fan goes? Now, I don't need eighteen more, just fifty four I'm good.

00:15:16
Speaker 3: It's silly the music.

00:15:19
Speaker 5: Who cares?

00:15:20
Speaker 2: Hey I get to see Phil Mickelson's calves. Hey they're wearing shorts. Honey, come here?

00:15:30
Speaker 6: Yes? Do?

00:15:31
Speaker 3: He does have pretty nice cab he does.

00:15:33
Speaker 6: He does.

00:15:34
Speaker 2: His calves are the size of Fritzy's biceps.

00:15:39
Speaker 3: It's pretty close there.

00:15:41
Speaker 6: They're like bowling balls.

00:15:42
Speaker 3: They are calves stick out like that. I know.

00:16:57
Speaker 2: The Hall of Famer, he's the Mavericks head coach. J Kid back on the program. Before we get to you, Jason, let me go around the room the if he didn't go to Cow game, where would Jason Kidd have gone to college?

00:17:11
Speaker 3: Todd, I'll start with you. The Arizona State Sun.

00:17:14
Speaker 2: Devils, Okay, Dylan U c l A, Marvin, Kansas, Paul Kentucky. I'm going to say, the Kansas Jayhawks. You're right, DP, Yep, you were going to Kansas.

00:17:32
Speaker 6: I was going to Kansas.

00:17:34
Speaker 2: How did you tell who was it? Who was was Roy Williams there?

00:17:41
Speaker 6: Yeah? Roy was there? At the eighth grade, I went to the KU basketball camp. So Larry Brown was the coach, Danny Manny they had just won the national championship and so that's that's when I was introduced to KU. And that's where I was going to go until I made the decision to stay home to go to cal.

00:18:05
Speaker 3: And I remember you played a game in allen Field House.

00:18:10
Speaker 6: We did, we lost, the fall got us, but what a great atmosphere. Oh yeah, when you talk just the fans, they definitely have home court. But that's you know, my dad was from there. So at the age of twelve thirteen, I went to basketball camp and I was playing with the eighth graders. And then during camp they asked me, but I go and play with the high school kids. And I was all excited thinking I was going to be playing in allen Field House, and unfortunately they took me down the street and I was a little upset that we were leaving the main court, and so I wish I was staying with the eighth graders. But that's when I was introduced to playing with the high school kids.

00:18:56
Speaker 2: Okay, would you rather have your career or Cooper Flagg's career moving forward?

00:19:04
Speaker 6: Oh, I'm gonna take Cooper Flag's career.

00:19:08
Speaker 3: Wait, you're a Hall of Famer.

00:19:11
Speaker 6: Well, he's gonna be one two. He's special. When you talk about being drafted at the age of eighteen and now being nineteen but just the way he carries himself, you know, on and off the floor. His parents have done an incredible job of keeping him humble and hungry, and so I think his career is going to be way better than mine.

00:19:37
Speaker 3: When did you know that? Okay, he's real?

00:19:42
Speaker 6: I asked two future Hall of Famers, Curry and Lebron because he participated with Team USA, and so I wanted to know the truth. And so I went to those two and asked him, can Cooper play? And they both said he's very special. And so talking to Cooper, I had him over for dinner and I said, hey, when you were a Team USA, who were the hardest to guard? And he brought up Curry and Lebron and so I was just like, yeah, those two are hard to guard. But he goes, they just knew exactly what was going to happen before it happened, and I said, that just takes time, but those two are the ones that stood out. He said, those were the hardest to guard. And I asked those two about Cooper and Hee and they said that he's very special. And I thought, you know, listening to those guys, But once I gave him the ball, you know, early on I knew that this young man was going to do something special.

00:20:40
Speaker 2: I think I was critical of you that you had him with point guard to start, and I thought he hadn't played point guard, and I thought, wow, he's going to be the leader of the team, and now you're going to make him a point guard. And I don't know if he struggled a little bit there as a point guard, but when did you know that he could actually be a point forward or whatever you want to call it.

00:21:04
Speaker 6: Yeah, I think when you look at you know, sometimes we get caught up in the titles point guard, point forward. It becomes basketball. Can you bring the ball up? Can you make place decision making? And I thought for him, you could see that he understood the game at a very high level at the age of eighteen. But understand, guys, we're going to target him and pick him up full court. And so we wanted to kind of look at speeding up the process. If there's a big game coming in the future, playoffs are playing, well, we have another ball handler. If they took the ball out of Kay's hand, and so we were trying to think a little bit of a head and it worked out and it's all right. To be critical of someone's decision, But I think it helped the process for next season in years to come that we can rely on him getting us in an offense.

00:22:00
Speaker 3: Can have Cooper Flagg or Victor wimbin Yama?

00:22:04
Speaker 6: Can I have both?

00:22:09
Speaker 2: You had to tank earlier, you know, to get wemby a couple of years. Yeah, who does he remind you of? He?

00:22:21
Speaker 6: You know, Kareem a little bit a young a young Kareem at u c l A being so dominant, doesn't have the skyhook, but just athleticism, understands the game. Again, when you talk about these young players, their IQ of understanding how to play the game, and he's one that's playing the game at a very high level. Shoots the three, puts the ball on the floor, doesn't have to jump the dunk. Uh, it doesn't have to jump the block shots and so just understanding. He again, he's special And I think the league with these young stars are in great hands.

00:23:02
Speaker 3: Has okay see morphed into being a dynasty.

00:23:09
Speaker 6: This season, this this run, this playoff run, we'll be able to answer that question. If they are the last team standing, I would say, yes.

00:23:16
Speaker 3: How good are they?

00:23:18
Speaker 6: Like?

00:23:18
Speaker 2: If we always love to go oh, they as good as the Bulls here, the Celtics here, or the Lakers here is okay, See in that conversation, if they win another.

00:23:30
Speaker 6: I think if they win another title, they're in that San Antonio Spurs type dynasty. You know again, simple not flashy plays. They they play both sides of the ball defensively and offensively. And then they have a star and the stars about the team, and so I would look at them more in that San Antonio dynasty.

00:23:55
Speaker 2: Talking to Jason Kidd, the Hall of Famer MAVs head coach, you were with the Lakers to years as an assistant coach, Yes, sir, okay, what's your favorite memory of Kobe?

00:24:08
Speaker 6: Oh? Favorite memory of Kobe Uh? I think playing with him on Team USA. That was, you know, to be able to be with him for you know, two months, you know, and playing the game.

00:24:27
Speaker 1: Uh.

00:24:27
Speaker 6: Being able to see him compete in practice and the way he just went about his business was special. The other memory I have is not so so good because I had blonde hair and I think he he made a jump shot at the free throw line over me. I thought I contested it, but I was coming down and he was still up there. So Uh, just just the competition. He loved going against the best.

00:24:54
Speaker 5: Uh.

00:24:55
Speaker 6: He wasn't afraid and he was the ultimate winner.

00:24:59
Speaker 3: But you were there, I mean you played against everybody did was was Kobe talking trash?

00:25:07
Speaker 6: Kobe? Uh, if you if you got on his nerves or you were going to talk to him, he was going to talk back a lot of times. For me, it wasn't to talk to the to the stars. I wasn't going to try to get them motivated. I wanted them to kind of like just go through their their routine and get their average and go home. But if you were going to talk trash, he wasn't going to back down, and then he would let you have it. So I tried to go to opposite away just say hi and you know, see.

00:25:35
Speaker 3: You next time you got in the league at peak Jordan, what.

00:25:41
Speaker 6: Yes, sir, he was He's special, you know. Being able to play against MJ again, Uh, the best to ever do it. The one thing I always tell people about MJ is when you bought a ticket that you were going to leave there very impressed and not disappointed. And so you know, if you were at the Garden or you know in Boston, if you were at Golden State. You know, he always performed at a very high level, and so I don't know if people really understood, you know, the performance that he did on a nightly basis, when you paid, you know, you were entertained. He always did something special, and so I always thought he was the best at his job.

00:26:25
Speaker 2: We had Jamal Crawford on yesterday. We're talking about handles. Who had the best handle, and he talked about Kyrie talked about We talked about a variety of players with great handles. You Tim Hardaway, He talked about guys who had a handle in the box, Like Hardaway was in the box where other guys have iverson had a handle that was outside the box. Who if you're giving me the mount rushmore of best ball handlers, who would you put up there?

00:26:56
Speaker 6: Isaiah Thomas Detroit, Isaiah Kyrie. I'm gonna give you one that a lot of people don't talk about is Rod Strickland. Oh Strickey was uh, you know, his handle and his finishing was incredible. I'm gonna go with Steve Nash. Nash Nash was in the box. He only dribbled it twice, but because he was always through passing it. But I thought his handles were tight. Two. And then Jamal Crawford even though he could get outside the box, he can he can embarrass you inside the box too. So I think that's that's Mount Rushmore for me. But those the Isaiah and Kai are are the best that I've seen.

00:27:49
Speaker 2: What were the battles like, when you're with Phoenix, you're there, Kevin Johnson's there, Steve Nash is there. So you got three Hall of Fame point guards there? What was practice like?

00:28:02
Speaker 6: It was great because me and Nash got to practice all the time because Kevin was on the sideline reading the newspaper.

00:28:10
Speaker 3: Wait, he didn't practice.

00:28:13
Speaker 6: Yeah, he practiced. He was a vet, so he would practice when he wanted to. But me and Nash got most of the reps.

00:28:20
Speaker 3: But imagine you got three. Did you guys know that Nash could play?

00:28:25
Speaker 6: Yes, Nash is a gym rat. I knew Nash could play when I was at Cow in Santa Clair. We would have battles. And so understanding Nash's competitiveness, his work ethic is like no other. He's a gym rat. And so for both of us to come off the bench behind Kevin, we got to learn the game. But I knew at once Nash got the opportunity to run his team, he was going to be elite and he was a two time MVP and Hall of Famer. But we did have to come off the bench, and sometimes our minutes were cut because of Kevin.

00:29:03
Speaker 2: You got credit for inventing the you're jumping out of bounds and calling a time mount.

00:29:07
Speaker 3: But they don't allow that anymore, right.

00:29:10
Speaker 6: They banned it. Yeah, they banned that. I don't know why.

00:29:13
Speaker 3: Okay, how did you come up with that?

00:29:17
Speaker 2: Uh?

00:29:18
Speaker 6: I looked at it as just having an extra possession, you know, And I don't know if the coach really liked me, you know, burning a timeout, But I felt, you know a lot of times that the possession was important and it was our ball to be able to score.

00:29:32
Speaker 3: But you did this at Cown.

00:29:33
Speaker 6: I think I probably did it a lot, probably in high school, and probably my coaches didn't like that I was burning timeouts when jumping out of bounce.

00:29:45
Speaker 2: We I have a court here in my man cave, but we practiced that sometimes where ball's going out of bounds and then we catch it and then we do the quick twenty second time out there.

00:29:58
Speaker 6: I wish they would bring the twenty second time out back.

00:30:01
Speaker 2: There's too many timeouts as there is, Jason, you know, have you ever had a time out where you go, I got nothing to say?

00:30:11
Speaker 6: Yeah, it's real simple, Like what else can I say? Like we can't stop their play or yeah, you guys are rolling. I don't want I don't want to get in the way, so let's keep it going.

00:30:25
Speaker 3: Uh is Joker in the top ten of all time category?

00:30:33
Speaker 6: I think when he's done he can be even high as five.

00:30:40
Speaker 3: Where's Steph?

00:30:42
Speaker 6: Steph? Steph is going to be in the top five too?

00:30:48
Speaker 3: Wow?

00:30:49
Speaker 6: When you when you talk about when he's when he decides to retire, Stephan Joker have the opportunity to be in the top five all time.

00:30:58
Speaker 2: Durant top ten okay, Lebron two so Mike one, yes, Lebron two, yes, Kobe Kobe three?

00:31:13
Speaker 6: Yes, Well, and then if it in, if you had the end of it today would be Joker and Steph. Dang.

00:31:22
Speaker 2: Okay, you got to take some people out, like will be taking Magic and Larry out of the top ten?

00:31:28
Speaker 6: Yeah no, well, yeah, they'll be in the top they could be in the top fifteen. It's okay, It's all right. They're still good. They're still really good. They'll get me wrong.

00:31:43
Speaker 2: Tim Duncan top ten. Yes, oh that was a quick answer, Shack top ten.

00:31:49
Speaker 5: Yes, okay, you.

00:31:52
Speaker 3: Know you're going to end up with fourteen guys in the top ten.

00:31:55
Speaker 6: That's okay, we just stop them now.

00:31:58
Speaker 2: It feels like Oscar and Jerry should be together like Magic and Larry. Yes, they should take up one slot.

00:32:07
Speaker 6: I agree with you, DP, I think that they should take up one slot. When you talk about Magic and UH and Larry, because of what they did for the game for us, I think they should they should be tied together.

00:32:23
Speaker 3: When's the last time you played pickup?

00:32:28
Speaker 6: That's actually when I was assistant in l A. I played pickup because Rondo needed they needed an extra body, so I thought I would jump in there, and I tore my miniscus and it was an all bad idea. It was a great idea until until that happened.

00:32:50
Speaker 3: Great to talk to you again, and I.

00:32:52
Speaker 6: Appreciate it's always good to see you. DP.

00:32:54
Speaker 2: What do you got in the office that I would care about? Like the what's over your left shoulder? The trophy second shelf?

00:33:03
Speaker 8: Right?

00:33:03
Speaker 3: There is this one?

00:33:06
Speaker 6: Yeah, that's the Rookie of the Yes, I would say Cooper Flag's Rookie of Year trophy is way better.

00:33:18
Speaker 3: It's nicer, very nice.

00:33:20
Speaker 5: Do you know?

00:33:21
Speaker 2: I think I told you this. I changed my vote for Rookie of the Year that year, did you? And it ended up a tie.

00:33:30
Speaker 3: With you and Grant Hill?

00:33:32
Speaker 6: You changed it for me or Grant?

00:33:34
Speaker 3: I think I changed it for Grant.

00:33:37
Speaker 8: Ah.

00:33:42
Speaker 2: I think I changed it that morning that votes had to be in and I go, yead, I'm back and forth and back and forth and back and forth.

00:33:51
Speaker 3: Can I change it back now? Can I change it back now so you would win it?

00:33:55
Speaker 1: No?

00:33:56
Speaker 6: I'd rather be tied with Grant. I like being tied. The Grand Grand had an incredible NBA career, but again that year, I thought he'd wanted to be honest, because he had a year and he was putting up big numbers. And so when I got the call that we tied, you the reason why we.

00:34:17
Speaker 3: Tie, I know, you should get it half the year, and then he gets it half of the year.

00:34:25
Speaker 6: Shoot, he probably keep it the whole time.

00:34:27
Speaker 2: Yeah.

00:34:28
Speaker 6: Down, But it was an honor. It was honor.

00:34:33
Speaker 3: Enjoy the off season. Thanks for joining us.

00:34:35
Speaker 6: Hey, I have one thing Can I just say happy birthday to one of my assistant coaches, Eric Hues. He listens and watches your show every day, not that I don't, but I just wanted to wish him a happy birthday today.

00:34:48
Speaker 2: Does Eric know about our shooting contest that you bowed out? You know, Jim Jackson didn't believe me when I told him that story. I said, I swear to uh, I flew to Dallas to shoot three pointers against you, and you got sick during practice and went home.

00:35:09
Speaker 3: And Jim Jackson said that I was making it up.

00:35:12
Speaker 6: No, it's true. I got scared and I knew you were a better shooter. But I think we should settle it. I think we're both a little bit older.

00:35:20
Speaker 2: No, you're better now. No, because you you learned how to shoot threes. Yeah, I and I have no mine. You know I can't get you now.

00:35:30
Speaker 6: We'll do free thows I could do.

00:35:32
Speaker 3: I could get you at free throws.

00:35:34
Speaker 6: Oh and the main I'll do it at the man Cave. We'll do free thoughs.

00:35:38
Speaker 3: Okay. You know who can still shoot? Reggie?

00:35:42
Speaker 6: Oh? Yes, I mean when he's going to be seventy, he's going to be able to still shoot it. Is.

00:35:48
Speaker 2: It's amazing to watch when we've been shooting around and he just gets there and it is nothing to him to make ten in a row.

00:35:56
Speaker 6: It's it's incredible the shooting. You know, everybody has a different shot and his is different, but his is all net and he's incredible to watch shoot too.

00:36:07
Speaker 3: But nobody's close to Steph is the greatest shooter of all time.

00:36:11
Speaker 6: I wouldn't say no one's close. He is number one, and there is a little space. But like Reggie Ray, there are some great shooters that have been in this league. And the young gentleman who came in second, Canepo, is another one who can.

00:36:27
Speaker 2: Shoot it all right, I'll let you go. Great to talk to you again, Thanks Budd, I appreciate it.

00:36:32
Speaker 6: Thank you.

00:36:33
Speaker 3: That's Jay Kidd, Hall of Famer. MAM said coach.

00:36:36
Speaker 1: Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to listen live.

00:36:48
Speaker 2: Just got this from a source. The Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund. The PIF is pivoting towards domestic projects such as the twenty thirty four World Cup infrastructure rather than foreign loss making sports ventures.

00:37:05
Speaker 3: The change is driven by a desire.

00:37:07
Speaker 2: To prioritize financial sustainability focus on domestic economic impact over high cost international marketing. The PIF similarly is getting out of soccer, rugby and other sports investments. With that we make way for Brandal Chambly, Golf channel leads studio analyst. Is today a good day for golf?

00:37:32
Speaker 6: Yes?

00:37:32
Speaker 8: Absolutely. You know when I heard the news yesterday and I thought it was coming. They've been paying attention, reading the tea leaves. You knew it was coming. Yeah, I thought, no matter how big the ruse, no matter how well it's funded, it's hard to get a bad idea off the ground and make it profitable.

00:37:49
Speaker 2: Did the Saudi Arabia the PIF. Did they accomplish what they wanted to accomplish.

00:37:55
Speaker 8: No, I think the opposite would be the case. You know, they were trying to use golf to sort of launder their reputation, to sort of hide their atrocities, if you will, and I think it just further highlighted them. You know, I think pretty much everybody in the golf industry knew that the Saudis didn't care about golf. They were using golf as a vehicle to launder their atrocities. And because it came right on, right on the hills of the murder and butchery and of Jamal Kashogi, it was really fresh in everybody's mind and it wasn't hard to connect those dots.

00:38:30
Speaker 3: Okay, But was there a template that lived could have coexisted.

00:38:39
Speaker 8: Well, it was an irrational actor. There's There's just no way what they were doing was sustainable. If they were looking to make a profit, which clearly they weren't. They were going to never make a profit. But in terms of trying to diversify their economy, trying to get some other source of revenue, but besides the Petro, you know, I don't think that the Saudis are going to give up on golf in that regard. I still think they'll try to build golf courses and hotels and all of that in Saudi Arabia. But as it relates to competitive golf, it was an abject failure because people really only watched sports that matter, and everybody saw through this ruse and knew that it was more of an exhibition than a competition.

00:39:25
Speaker 3: Why was Greg Norman so hell bent on taking down the PGA tour.

00:39:30
Speaker 2: I don't know.

00:39:31
Speaker 8: I guess he just had an axe to grind. I mean, early on he had propped up the idea of an elite tour of players, and famously Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicholas stood up and said no. Look, we had the chance to do something similar back in our heyday in the sixties and seventies and early eighties, and we said no because it wasn't good for golf. But Greg just it seemed to me, was only interested in what was good for Greg. Let's get a small group of guys together and let's just play a week after week after week. Now something like that came along, called the wgc's. It was a small group of guys. Tiger almost won half of them. And guess what, the world of golf lost interest in them. Because what matters is the pipelines to building professional golfers. What matters a lot or underdog stories, unheard of stories coming to fruition in the game of golf, and so they were a failure.

00:40:24
Speaker 2: I'm looking at this returning member program. Now Brooks literally paid the price. So I guess Patrick Reid is going to have to do the same. Is this going to be still open for John Rahm and Bryson Deshambeau, cam Smith, anybody else.

00:40:42
Speaker 8: I'd be surprised if the deal that Brooks Koepka got or well Reid is going to have to qualify, and he is going to qualify, So maybe that'll be the path back for a lot of these guys that don't have existing exemptions, but they came back because they wanted to play more traditional golf. It was their choice to come back. These players are only coming back when Live folds at the end of this year. They'll only be coming back because they have no other choice. So I think the road back will be quite a bit bumpier and more expensive.

00:41:17
Speaker 3: Why don't they just make them play on the DP World Tour.

00:41:21
Speaker 8: Well, either that or the corn Ferry Tour, or go back to Q School. Now there's some of them, a few of them that'll have existing exemptions, but I still just don't think that it's going to be as easy as it was for Brooks or Read. They can't keep them from coming back. A lot of people text and say, why are they even letting them back? I mean, legally they can't do that. They have to have a pathway to coming back. But it is interesting that they were paid exponential amounts of money to go play for Live. They're going to have to pay to come back and play on the PGA Tour.

00:41:48
Speaker 2: It feels like Rory McElroy's the big winner here. Am I oversimplifying?

00:41:53
Speaker 6: No?

00:41:54
Speaker 8: I think there are a number of people that I would say winners, you know, under you know, underappreciated in this are some of the agents that stood fast and recommended their players not go. Mark Steinberg, tiger Wood's agent, and so many other player's agent stood fast. I don't think he deserved I don't think he gets enough credit for what he did to sort of hold golf together because a number of agents were pushing their players to go to the Soudias. But Rory h absolutely Rory went out there. I think he was hurt by was it June sixth when there was this framework agreement between the PGA Tour and Live. Felt like he probably felt like he'd been betrayed a little bit because he did put it all out there on the line. But I would imagine he feels some vindication at this news.

00:42:41
Speaker 2: He's Brandal Shamblely of Golf Channel. Yeah, I'm trying to figure out PGA Tour one as well. Did the PGA Tour get better because of what was going on with LIV?

00:42:53
Speaker 3: Didn't? Were they forced to come in and cater to the modern player?

00:43:00
Speaker 8: No, I don't think so. I mean, proponents of LIVE will say that the tour is better now, but look, it tilted the game towards greed. It muddied the meritocratic aspects of the game of golf. It is likely that the philanthropic foundations of professional golf, which has been so important a big part of professional golf, it is likely, in my view, that those foundations will get eaten into to some extent to pay this future equity of PGA Tour players. And you can say that it's stalled or killed the trajectory of many a player and some would be Hall of Fame players, and it divided the game. And right now I would say that even if these players come back, the persons are so out of touch with reality that they're not sustainable. So it's put golf in a place where, in its current state, is not sustainable.

00:43:52
Speaker 3: What's Phil Mickelson's prospects here future.

00:43:57
Speaker 6: I don't know.

00:43:59
Speaker 8: I can't imagine that his path back to the PGA Tour would be anything but the bumpiest of all of them.

00:44:05
Speaker 3: What about the Champions Tour.

00:44:08
Speaker 8: Yeah, perhaps he'll have a road back there. Again, it would be expensive and tedious, I would imagine, because you know, he openly recruited PGA Tour players while he was you know, to go to live while he was still the PGA Tour player. He actually went to tour events to recruit players to go to live and was a big part of the lawsuit levied against the PGA Tour. And by the way, Bryson de Shamba was setting on that lawsuit all the way until.

00:44:37
Speaker 3: It was dissolved.

00:44:38
Speaker 8: So these are not things that people are going to easily forget about.

00:44:42
Speaker 3: Any update on tiger Woods.

00:44:45
Speaker 8: No, unfortunately not, And perhaps no news is good news. Perhaps he's doing what he needs to do, take care of himself and get better. I think the whole golf world's hoping that's the case.

00:44:55
Speaker 2: Maybe the PGA Tour adopts like one event where they play fifty four hole and they play loud music and you get to play in your shorts.

00:45:03
Speaker 3: What do you think about that?

00:45:04
Speaker 8: They kind of do that already, it's called the WM Phoenix Open.

00:45:10
Speaker 3: Is there anything that comes close to that kind of decibel level now.

00:45:16
Speaker 8: Not even close. They used to have, you know, that kind of crowd or a similar type of crowd and Dallas, but it never was that loud. The golf course was just too spread out. Nothing comes close to the WM Phoenix Open.

00:45:28
Speaker 6: You know.

00:45:28
Speaker 8: There were a few tournaments that were pretty festive. Durau used to be back in the day festival. We'll see if it's that way this week.

00:45:35
Speaker 3: I doubt it will be.

00:45:37
Speaker 8: Memphis used to be pretty loud. There were some others. Greensboro was loud, but nothing. Nothing came close to the W and Phoenix Open.

00:45:46
Speaker 3: But you can only have one of those on tour, right, I mean, there are a.

00:45:49
Speaker 8: Set of really unique circumstances that create that perfect weather, perfect conditions. I'm not sure anybody works in Scottsdale. They're there to play golf and celebrate life and oh, by the way, there's a tournament down the road and it's sunny and it's beautiful and let's go have some fun. And then the Thunderbirds run that and they're the you know, I think they blend business and philanthropy better than any organization I've ever run across.

00:46:17
Speaker 3: Yeah, they do a great job. Great to talk to you, Thanks for joining us.

00:46:20
Speaker 8: Is always always good to talk to you. Dan, take care.

00:46:23
Speaker 3: That's Brandal shambly
