Mmmm, hello, it is Tuesday, June thirtieth, twenty fifteen. That
means you're listening to the Giant Bomb Cast, which is a podcast, which
is an audio pod is a prerecorded audio show a varying length and topic.
Yes, the podcast was first popularized in two thousand and Jeff helped me out.
It's like a two thousand three probably and Adam Curry and met podcasting.
Okay, he was at pod zero. Yeah, that Pod zero. Probably
he is actually a thing. Oh yeah, I bet in there's probably some
company rap just violated copyright. I know, it's what we do here.
I'm typing pod zero into the internet and seeing what's coming back. Autonomous Vehicle
for the UK, a YouTube channel that seems to be posting pod videos okay,
really knocking them out of the park so far. And then some other
yeah, I don't know, right, some other stuff. Well, since
we're all about violating copyrights here, we've brought Dan reichord. Hey, how's
it going? You know, you know from copyrights? I do you are
all about brands? Yeah? I love brands, yep, they're great corporate
corporate marketing. Yeah, right up here, I'm totally in the brands.
Yeah, I like lots of them. They're people. I mean they're just
like people, sure, just like people. Oh, to balance out that
lunacy, Jason a strikers here, Well, yeah, he hates brands,
brands. Dan's always coming to me. He's like, I've got this great
idea. I'm gonna make mister Donalds. I'm like, no, no,
you can't. You can't do that. It's there's a McDonald's. No.
I think I think you know, I would think that if you hated brands,
you'd be all for it, Like, yeah, take the brands down
with more brands. No, I hate people infringing on other people. Do
you love? You truly love brands? You have a deep respect for I
have a respect, but not a love. The only brands that that Jason
loves is that knockout energy drink, Which what does it say about respect at
the top here? Respect all fear nuns Jason's can of energy. Asked me
how much I paid for this, I'll tell you one dollar plus tax to
the man. That's what it says on the Camp's what it says on the
camps. There's just a big miss. I don't know which man we talk
are we talking about? Like capital im man. Yeah, more than likely,
although it's not capital I don't think anything is capitalized except for knock Out
because that's all in caps. Low carb punch, Come get some does that
can have a Destiny code in it? I'm checking a tap have like the
lowt off brand? What is the low rent off brand Destiny? Uh?
Defiance? Okay, all right, that's fair. It's got Defiance codes on
it. Okay, all right, okay, well that's where those missions went.
Oh sweetened with Splenda? Does that show still on Defiance? Probably?
I saw an ad for it on PlayStation View said, hey, defiances on
Wait, there's ads on that thing? No, it was, it was
on there. It was. It's like on the the iPad version of it,
it comes up and says like, hey, this is something you could
watch. It's on wait my pad version of view. Yeah, oh can
you watch your view stuff on the iPad? DoD You guys just want to
talk about PlayStation view here. It's kind of curious. This is like an
alarmingly quick in getting down to business. But if you want to talk about
it, look, I'm not going to stop you. Yes, there is
an iPad version of the app. It does not work on your phone.
Okay. Also because television is such a fucking fucked up business with digital rights
being a nightmare and who can watch what where being this like huge point of
contention, Yeah, which is some the worst thing to me about about the
modern future of all. So here is a way that it manifests. It's
PlayStation view if for those that don't know, is a is a fifty dollars
a month. You can go to high seventy. There three programming packages.
It's a package of television channels that you can watch and the like kind of
virtually DVR using a PlayStation four, PlayStation three or iPad. Oh, I
didn't know there's a TVR stuff in there. That's cool, it's it's yeah.
But but and here's where these deals manifest. Some shows are flagged in
such a way that they cannot be viewed on mobile, So you call them
up on your iPad and it just says mobile restricted. That's like YouTube.
You know there's certain videos that you can't watch on mobile. Does that have
something? Yeah? Or usually that means it's a music video that's a bad
user experience or something like that. Or it's like every time I try to
watch SNL on Hulu. I never see the monologue because they almost inevitably sing
something that's copyrighted, and so you miss sketches that have like certain songs in
it. It's a little different, but yes, that's a fucked up situation
too. And then like rereleasing old episodes of Saturday Night Live has actually been
a hassle, like putting on with the state that that sketch comedy state,
like because they were on MTV, like they had a free and clear license
to use whatever songs they wanted, but then when it came time to sell
that on DVD, it was like, oh, well, we can't go
license all these songs now. Kids. It's so which even worse with Beavis
and butthead, because that's all that's all the good stuff from Beavis and butthead
is making fun of those music videos and any of those really exist. Yeah,
so yeah, that's that stuff's a nightmare. So yeah, PlayStation View,
I don't know, it's weird, it's it's not great, but I'm
still kind of holding out hope for it to be fair. Like it's a
great concept, Like I wish it was like an ala carte kind of thing,
but for somebody who's actually cut chords. I haven't at cable in years.
So to have an option like this where I don't have to go through
Comcast is it's kind of cool. Channel selections not bad, it's so so
I don't. I don't really watch television anymore. Yes, and it's been
this nightmare scenario where I'm paying Direct TV for every channel they will let me
buy good Lord Wow, which is one hundred and eighty dollars a month,
wow, just for TV, just for television, others for television that I
don't watch, which there's one channel you do want, which carries a program
that you also don't seem to want to watch. Ye. So yeah,
So I want a package that will let me watch USA because that's where the
wrestling lives. And sometimes even though I haven't, I have not watched any
wrestling in like two months, and it's been fucking great. Highly recommend it
has moved to USA, ohown, they're all on USA network. I don't
think anyone's watched SmackDown since two thousand and five. Yeah, even the biggest
wrestling fans don't. So or if it hasn't moved yet, it is moving
to US. I believe it didn't even know. Yeah, so in theory,
I may want to watch wrestling at some point because I still subscribe to
the w w E network. And if you don't watch the weekly shows,
then the the end of the month pay per view show doesn't make any sense.
And that's another situation important one might assume, and many people do that
the weekly television show would also be on the ww E network, but because
they have a deal with you essay in place, it doesn't show up there
for thirty days. The thing you want does not go on the service,
which point it's useless because if this is an ongoing saga, if I can't
watch these characters I don't care about do things that are poorly scripted that I
also don't care about in a timely fashion, then why am I watching?
You might lose interest in wrestling exactly. To be fair, most paper for
your matches start with like a three minute music. Yeah, everything they do
like what you know at that point, like why why even watch the wrestling?
Just watch like the reekend. Now you're getting it off, Now you're
getting there. Yes, so streamlining and closer to the ultimate truth. Yes,
yes, so I need to cut out the fluff of Direct TV because
yeah, so none of the other packages had USA up until this point,
I have a Sling TV subscription. They provided one when it rolled out on
an Xbox one to test that out, which I can say with some certainty
that it is maybe the worst u I I've ever seen for selecting television shows
and watching them followed closely by PlayStation view, which I actually think is a
terrible experience. Like the UI of it is hellish. So I thought that
thing was limited to the PS four since it's on it is an iPad.
That's it. No other It doesn't spool out to anything else. No,
No, I don't think so. There might be an android appen I don't
know, but it only works on tablets. It's iPad specific, like not
your phone, which I hate when people do that. I hate when that
happens. Frankly, would like the UI. I don't think they could put
that on a phone as well. Yeah, and maybe it's something they'll do
eventually, or maybe there are other weird licensing things for a phone size screen
that make it even more hellish to negotiate or something. I don't know.
So this thing is offers a package of channels for fifty dollars a month.
Uh, and then you can step it up for sixty or seventy if you
want to step up to higher tiers of programming, you have any say at
all which channels zero say, there is a fifty dollars package called Access and
then you go to Core and you got a premiere or whatever. Sound them
much different from Cable. It's totally not. But but it is fifty dollars
a month instead of the way more I am paying. Sure, and it
has the one channel I might want to watch. Theoretic, I theoretically want
that. I feel like it's all very tentative here. This is baby steps
to me eventually just saying you know what, I don't need that either,
because let's get this ship out of my life. But until then, there
is this draw, this desire to have USA. Sure, I feel the
same way. Well, if I wanted to watch burn Notice, Royal Pains,
white collar suits, this amazing USA original programs, mister robot Cron actually
runs a lot of burn Notice. Really yeah, syndication now, yes,
it's been on for long. Ast Hunt So I signed up for PlayStation View.
They rolled it out in the San Francisco Bay area back at E three.
So I signed up for the free trial, which just expired yesterday of
the day before. So you've now paid I guess yeah, I'm now I'm
in for a month. I'm in for a month to see how well it
works. It's ver easy to cancel, like that's right in the app and
all that sort of stuff, Like I still can't figure out how to cancel
EA access, but you're still in it. I've signed it for a year,
so it hasn't cost me any more money yet. But I have no
fucking I've looked, like multiple times, no fucking idea how to cancel that
thing? Do you still have it? Yep? He totally has it.
Yeah I do. No. I've received multiple tweets as well telling me how
exactly how to cancel it. Forward one of those to me, I think,
I will, you know what, we have to do this together.
I've had a reminder in my iOS reminders app for like three months now that
says cancel Spotify question Mark. Every time it rolls around, I just go
in there and increment the month one like every time it pops up. I'm
just like, I'll push it out another month and see if I want to
cancel by then I'm always I just always forget. Yeah, it's okay,
I may sign up for Beats Music. Really wait, they're going to allow
people to stream the Chronic. I should hope exclusively on Apple's music service.
I should hope so, but it is all Beats Music. It's called I
guess it's Apple Music. And then the radio station they're launching is Beats one,
which it launches today as this terrestrial broadcast radio. It is not no,
no, it's not industrial it is it is a So they are launching
a twenty four hour a day I guess like they're launching live programming, huh,
with one radio station to cover every genre. Because that's the way this
is going. That's the direction everything's moving. I can't say, I'm not
at liberty to discuss the availability of the Chronic two thousand and one at this
time. There's the station that album is just called two thousand and one.
Is the station just loop the Chronic twenty four hours a day? Because that
would yeah, that would be good. Are they are they going the serious
route and getting like like celebrity djas and stuff. They they but they have
programming blocks that they're set to launch. They went and they they got Zane
Low out of the UK and he's like a popular DJ there, I guess.
And then they moved into Los Angeles and now he's just like going to
be some British guy interviewing Eminem but now he'll do it from LA instead of
over there. Uh. And they're gonna have broadcasting emanating from LA New York
and London, and then they'll have programs that are hosted by artists. So
they say doctor Dre will be hosting a show on this Beats one. And
everything they've announced so far has been very focused on, uh like hip hop
and dance music and stuff like that. So whenever you see comments on a
story about this thing, I guess read O, don't forget what side I
was on today. But what are they gonna announce? Some real music,
some fucking guitar rock knock this boom boom boom shit h the accent. The
accent was not in the original writing, but I can only assume it was
there. I like all music except for wrapping country. Yeah, then maybe
Beats one will be for you. Uh yeah yeah, yeah, that's that's
weird, so weird. So but I mean it's weird to only have one
station, and it's weird to call it radio, so they're doing that.
And then it is also well not necessarily calling it radio, but it is.
It is stream you know, any day okay, and then they'll have
a Spotify like service there too. And this is the thing that Taylor Swift
got into a tiff. Yeah yeah, the other week, right yeah,
ok. And then she is allowing her album to be on there because they
said, okay, we'll pay. It isn't like Farrell doing an exclusive one
just for they'll do some song or our album or something, because that's what
people want. It's called Freedom, which I find really funny. I wonder
if it's walking it behind this day wall? Is it coming out under four
No I means so called freedom, Well it might. I mean I think
the station will launch Tuesday of this today, Okay, so who knows when?
I don't know when that thing's coming out? Is this the real reason
Apple bought beats? It's not for the headphones? Really, yeah, they're
their own. Streaming stuff was pretty anemic and this kind of buttons it up.
But you know, the headphones aren't are are popular? Is sure?
There's been a new round of people tearing those things now, or someone did
a tear down of the Beats headphones said, there's eleven dollars worth of stuff
these. I mean, my understanding is that they've always been like, right,
decent but not amazing headphones. Technically I like them, but there's a
huge you know, I'm not I'm saying they're bad name. You know,
there's they're pricey, there's a there is a massive like brand premium. There,
there's brands again like brands. Yeah. Yeah, mine actually my,
my, my pair of those are old enough that they still have the Monster
logo on them. Fuck yeah, oh right they were Monster. Yeah,
well that explains everything. Totally fucked over Monster and which you know, how
can you be mad at a company that then totally over Yeah, that's fair
getting it for their one hundred dollars HDMI cables or whatever. Anyway, PlayStations
in view, Yeah, you go into the program and guide and you say
this is a show that I want add it to my shows and then so
that's where the DVR type stuff comes in. It does not record things to
your hard drive. Oh are you just gonna stream it once you decide to
watch it? Yes, but you have to opt into that show. If
you can't go back the past thirty days and watch anything that's air, oh
what, you have to flag it and say this is a show I want
to watch. So only from the point after which you flagged it can you
watch new episodes? You can't. Oh that's terrible. Yeah, that's terrible.
Less it's available on demand, which some of the companies that already have
on demand options, like Adult Swim, some old episodes will show up there.
So if you flag Tim and Eric awesome show, yeah, there will
be about nine episodes you could watch immediately because they're available on demand. Okay,
isn't that how basic cable and DVR works? Like you can't just say,
hey, DVR raw and record every like previous raw. It's from the
moment you set it to record. That's but that's but that's that's that's like
that's how the technology works. Yeah. Like in that case, like there's
the recording is like a commodity in a local sense, you know, like
you're saying, just like this hard drive space on my DVR is being used
up because I hit that record. But that thing, that thing has a
streaming functionality. It's like you have to well it does actually TV Box will
do on demand and stuff. So but what you're like, there's no,
there's no technical reason that you couldn't stream past episodes. It's just an arbitrary
So this is like like a business thing. Yeah, this is like on
it if I went to HBO go and I said, hey, I want
to watch a True Detective, but I could only watch one's going forward,
even though I could totally stream older ones, well you can't say, but
yeah you can't view if you like, if you went and opted in the
True Detective today, you would not be able to stream those first two unless
they were all on demand, right, if they've been flagged to be on
Demado, what's awful? So a lot of that stuff is yeah, like
you you just never know what you're gonna get. There's so little consistency there
between like what device you're on and the individual program that it's impossible to kind
of like you have to flag a show and then be like, all right,
can I is there anything I can watch now? No? Okay?
And then so the other issue that I was running into, specifically with the
wrestling is that I flagged Monday Night Raw to be recorded. It's on Monday's
weird, I know. But they air some kind of truncated replay version of
the show on Universal HD, which is another channel, uh on the weekend
or something like that, and that's like, I don't know, one hour
or two hours, So it's some kind of weird recap version of how long
is it? The real? Three hours? It's a bad show. Wow,
it's a don't fucking watch wrest tonight right afterwards? Do you do?
You are you like glued to it or you like is your attention just wraps
the aar? Do not do not watch it live because the there are a
lot of commercial breaks one and most of it is bad. So and if
you watch on a DVR, well, second of all, the there's the
commercial problem, which is constant, but also something will happen at seven o'clock
where it's like brock Lessner did a thing, and then at seven thirty at
eight eight thirty nine, you'll see like basically the full segment again, hey
earlier tonight, So you're wasting like thirty minutes watching the same format segment over.
They're just padding out their ad inventory. Yes, yeah, totally's man,
why would you do this yourselves every week? Since ninety three. It's
a bad goddamn show. Yeah, there is no off season. It's so
when I flagged that show to be recorded, it seemed like it was favoring
these truncated versions over the actual show and not giving me the full three hour
show. So you're looking at the actual channel listing you've got, I'm say
it's a big three hour chunk. I'm looking at it and going like,
man, fuck this, I'm going into that. I'm hitting recorded. It's
but it's not recorded add to my shows. And then the Universal HD logo
is on that program, and I'm like, Okay, that's not the one
I want. I don't know what's going on there. So it as it
turns out, and here's the way that might be an end around for this.
I have subscribed to the lowest level package, which gets USA but not
Universal HT gotcha. So I will find out Monday night of this week whether
or not whether or not to work or not, and if it gonna records
Superstars now, okay, yeah, that's fine. No, but if it
doesn't record a three hour raw with the full overrun and all that other stuff,
then I'm going to cancel it immediately because it doesn't meet my needs wrestling.
But the Universal station also has like Ring of Honor and that's Destination America,
Destination America which is on there, so I can be watching t NA
wrestling and Ring of Honor wrestling. Jeff Jarrett won the King of the Mountain
Tournament the pay per view last night. A spoilers, man, come on
out, I'm gonna have to stop you right there. So that's in the
basic Take this opportunity to pitch the Power bodcast. Oh yeah, which,
yeah, we've been talking about what to do with that thing. We have
bombs only home for wrestling discussions, right we haven't. We haven't done one
of those in a while because it's been fucking terrible. I also e three
as it kept us very busy. But but the morale for watching wrestling around
these parts has been let's say, low, speak for yourself. Even you
have come in and said, it's been real bad. It's y. So
PlayStation view sounds kind of top heavy, like it sounds a little it sounds
a little too much like cable like buy it in, Buy it in at
a relatively high price for a bunch of still a bunch of channels. You
might not want. It's just too much like the old model to me.
Yeah, Sling TV has had, you know, has been doing sort of
the same thing with a different package of channels that you might like more or
less. The l Ray network is available there. If you want to watch
Luca Underground I do, then you need to sign it for Sling because they're
not on PlayStation view. Because that's the nightmares future we're getting into where people
fucking side with one service or over another and you will want to watch one
channel on each and you're just fucked forever. Also, there's no like super
premium channels like HBO Showtime. Yeah, Sling has some of that stuff.
I think Sling has HBO, but yeah, really I think they do.
I think they do. Don't quote me on that, but they have they
have some stuff. Oh yeah, HBO has got stuff on even Amazon Prime.
Now there they are branching out. I mean you can just go like,
sign up for HBO. Let's separate. I didn't know if they were
trying to keep all their stuff in their own bucket. Yeah, they are
letting it out there. It'sn't even like Showtime on Hulu. Nos. So
Showtime has been a lot more free wheeling with that stuff in hbio traditionally.
Yeah, yeah, I don't. I don't know anything that is trying to
emulate the kind of the old media frameworks, like if you know, if
it's trying to reproduce the cable experience in some way, like seems like the
wrong way to go, Like that seems like that's not the way forward.
No, Like at some point, like any show that's not like that doesn't
have to air at a set time needs to stop airing at a set time
exactly, and they need to divorce themselves from the linear format completely. And
on top of that, like Netflix is gaining power by the day in terms
of like production of their own original content, Like they just they signed their
first feature film production recently, Like like they're becoming like a legitimate studio.
Now yeah, I don't. I don't have a Netflix subscription, right,
But it's just an example of the things they're actually going. Like the networks
should be sweating this stuff. Yeah, and and you know it's gonna be
you know, I think that I look at like PlayStation View and Sling and
stuff like that as like a series of half steps that will get us to
where we want to go eventually one way or the other, but success or
fail, it'll lead the way forward. Sure, but right now, you
know, you have too many of these programmers that are like wanting to cling
to these old concepts of bundling these channels together because they're not idiots. They
look at somebody, Hey, no one ever wants to watch this bullshit,
so we've got a package in with this other thing and force people like,
hey, they've got one thing you want and nine things you don't. Good
luck. How many channels is the fifty dollars package? I want to say
it's fifty channels, but I can't. I can't say off the top of
my end that's decent. I guess yeah, Like there's at least a pretty
healthy assortment, like when you yes by the numbers and in terms of math,
you look at and go like, yeah, this is still cheaper than
even the cheapest some of the cheapest cable packages, unless you're bundling up and
doing something weird. And it seems reasonable assuming you want to watch a lot
of that stuff. You know, I PlayStation Views got Comedy Central, so
if you want to watch that stuff, it's there. You want country music
television, which just shows totally runs all day long, which is the most
country of Country Island, just like G four. It was all cops are
he runs a Yeah? And fast Lane the Bill Bellamy show. That was
a big Big four. Speaking of a reality show, no, it was
not a reality show. Okay, I mean he's the realist, but position
a reality No, No, it's called fast Lane. It was a cop
show, all right. Speaking of comedy social, have you guys seen this
monthlong Daily Show marathon they're doing online on the Comedy Central website. They are
streaming every episode of the Daily Show ever, back to back, even Kilburn
morning and night. I've no no. They started with the John Stewart's probably
probably just the John Stewards. I remember wondering if John Stewart could hack it
because I was a fan of the Daily Show with Craig Kilbourn. Yeah,
it was a fucking trip. I pulled it up last night and they were
they were still in nineteen ninety nine and there is like super young looking John
Stewart talking Bill Clinton era Daily Show. Ye cred. It was crazy to
see. Uh, And I wish I had thought to see where they're at
right now. I kind of wanted to catch the nine to eleven episode.
Oh yeah, just as you know. I was actually going back thinking like
all right, what are what are like all of the major news milestones of
the last like you know, fifteen years. Sure, they was at the
best I think during the el like the O eight election. Yeah, like
around election time, Like they didn't seem to have a way to like kind
of tell you had to eyeball the episode to figure out where they're at.
They didn't have like a thing on the side saying like it's from this date
or whatever. But it was still a crazy little like online time capsule.
Yeah, that's cool. It's cool looking back to old episodes of the Daily
Show and just seeing the just the pedigree of like, yo, there's Colbert,
There's Correll, you know, ed Helms, all these guys that went
on to a really six that's careers outside of the Daily Show. Yeah,
launched a lot of stars. I've not watched the Colbert replacement show. Yeah
though he uh yeah, Larry Wilmore, Yeah More. I always liked him
in a segments on the Daily Show. I think I've only seen like one
episode of the Nightly Show. It seemed alright. I've seen some of the
John Oliver thing on HBO two. He seems to be really yeah, yeah,
he seems sharp. When he took over for Colbert first steward there for
a little bit, right, Yeah, I was directly yeah, those were
quality shows. Yeah. Yeah, obviously HBO saw that, and it's like,
Okay, this guy can It's been interesting watching Colbert kind of ramp up
to the debut of his show because he's been they've been starting to put out
some videos and you know, some podcasts and stuff like that, and it's
like this weird walk the line like character thing of like I don't know where
he's coming from. What if he has a hard time breaking out of it
after so long. Yeah, he's a super talented guy. I'm totally totally
totally do whatever he wants. But I think he might still kind of be
playing up the like arrogant news persona thing, but just not the conservative bill
O'Reilly thing, right, which is kind of like latter day bear rapport kind
of got into like got a little closer to that. Anyway, it was
winking a little more. Yeah, it's yeah, it's it's a that's gotta
be a weird thing to think about of like Okay, like how much of
this is going to be me, how much of this is gonna not be
or how much of this is already me? Or yeah, because traditional Late
Night like no one's playing a character, you know, Letterman Leno Conan.
They were always like, it's like kind of they're playing the ultimate character,
the fucking hyped up version of themselves that's on television. You know, for
a lot of them are just trying to amulate Carson or whatever. It's just
kind of a middle of the road and sort of safe as you can get.
Have They said when he's starting eight, I think, yeah, is
it gonna be called the Late Show? It's the Late Show with Yeah,
he announced the band and everything. Uh yeah, there are a lot of
videos on I think it might just be Late Show dot com or CBS dot
com slash Late Show. It seems pretty good, well from what I've seen,
and he brought over a lot of really good writers, like old Conan
writers. Yeah cool, it's a Letterman, like you know, it's like
famously did not get the Tonight Show, but like arguably did one better and
like trying to created his own right. He created the show like worthy of
keeping the name around for the next guy. Right, that's kind of a
pretty big thing in itself, and when it was setting down, Letterman,
I think is way more respected by everyone than Leno, especially after the Leno
Conan thing and everything, like yeah, yeah, I mean yeah, definitely.
Yeah, seems to be the case. Speaking of strong chins, who
wants to talk about bat bo boom? Holy shit, that's that's that's the
worst second. But you got I will talk about you gotta have a good
talk about. You've gotta have a good angular jaw to carry that mask off.
Have we all beat it? Yes, let's spoil the ship out of
this. I played the ship out of that game. Yeah, I've played
like ten hours in a row and beat that game. You beat it,
Brad, you beat it? Yes, Jeff, were you at I blew
up as chemicals and I don't know if I'm gonna play anymore. Really,
Okay, pretty early on, you're pretty early. Yeah, I got it.
Got past the point of of like where we ended in the quick lists,
like disarming that bomb and then crossed the bridge cross okay, the second
island yeah, ok. And then it was like you know what, yeah,
not getting me good? Yeah? I love it. I'd say,
it gets a little more expansive or it kind of widens out a little bit
from there, but you know, totally, but it's more of that stuff,
like it doesn't change. Look from I think this is all incredibly well
made and it has been for years and I and it's not for you.
I don't necessarily do anymore of it. It's the Batmobile stuff I think is
pretty lame, but the rest of it is sound like if you just finish
ace Chemicals, that is one of the most heavy, like Batmobile, Like
that mission was the one where I was super worried. It was constant Batmobile
stuff. They pour it on real thick the first few hours, like it's
always there, like you're always going back to the Batmobile. But that the
first few hours, I was like, if the whole game is nothing but
this, Like I'm not super thrilled about that. Yeah, and it does.
They get a little more of the predator stuff in and like the traditional
Batman sneaking around type stuff, but they're still still a huge amount of it.
No, okay, yeah, yeah, that's yeah, that is where
I am. Yeah. Yeah. The only times they really forced on you
heavy after that ace Chemical section is just a couple like Arena poor Man's twisted
metal things where it's like, oh, here's twenty five drone tanks and they're
gonna, you know, you just have to. I think for me,
it's like I really really liked those first two games a lot, and that
third one I thought was overkill. Did you did you play through Origins?
No? No? I okay, I played more of that than I've played
this, but definitely kind of got to a point where, like, you
know what, like these mechanics are well worn, like they are expertly fucking
crafted, like revolutionized melee. People steal things from Batman every goddamn day,
and they're right to do so, because that stuff was fan fucking tastic.
But at this point between the other games that have done that combat and you
know, Origins being a bummer, and like I feel like maybe if Origins
hadn't come out and I hadn't had like like it had been a good long
time, because it's been oh yeah, I'll come back to Batman. I
think it's been almost four years since City. Yeah, that's why I was
so glad that, like I played a couple hours Origin, Like I got
up to the first death stroke fight and I was like, man, this
this is just not grabbing me at all, and it's a strange departure.
Yeah. Yeah, so so I just played like two hours of it and
then I heard the story was good, but I'm not that bad. Yeah,
gameplay was just as formula as you know, some of the other Markham
games. But but yeah, outside of that like two hours that I dabbled
with it, I did feel like I had that long break and like Asylum
especially was one of my favorite games last generation. Yeah, because I had
that fucking one of the best games ever made, is concerned. Yeah,
I think so totally. It's still the best game in the series too,
I think, so yeah, this this is my easy number two. Yeah,
I agree with it. Yeah. I liked City. Yeah, I
ended up like a City a lot. You know, like like you're you're
right about the tightness of Asylum, and you know, obviously it's the first
game of the series, especially with it being like groundbreaking, yeah, revolutionize
those concepts and and all that sort of stuff. But yeah, so I
think part of it is just like a fatigue with you know, the way
those different systems come together after having enjoyed those games, Like I just don't
you know, it's it's not something I'm interested in doing. Again, I
can see that, and they do lean very very heavily upon you know,
and they're right to do so. And you know, like those games were
fucking rad. Although I would I would, I would say there are aspects
to the melee and the predator stuff in this game that are they kind of
go a little too far with like they're especially towards the end of the game,
like the melee fights, there are there are one too many types of
enemies, and they and they pour them into the like kind of enemy configurations
a little too heavily. It's once they start doing like, okay, so
now these white medic guys not only can they heal them, they can also
make these guys sparkly and electric. It's like, okay, so you'll get
into a situation where you're fighting like twenty guys and maybe five or six of
them in that group, you can actually just hit everybody else of them.
You have to stun them first. Everybody else everybody's got a shield or a
sword or a zappy baton or there's some reason that you either you'll either like
break your combo and just hit a wall or you'll literally take damage by trying
to attack him. You know, it's like one constantly and think like,
okay, yeah, is this the guy that I have to Okay, stun
him, then I jump over him, then I can do the beatdown move.
So, like I enjoyed this first game. I'm like, that's what
I really loved it. I did every combat challenge in the first game,
like I got all the achievements because I thought I thought they struck a good
balance of like all right, when you step up to the high difficulty levels,
we'll add some more of those types of guys. But but in this
they're just everywhere and it's too much. I dig that. I totally dig
that. Yeah, it's because it's strategic, you know, I gotta make
use of all of my gadgets. That sh It's fun to me. But
if it's too overwhelming for you guys, I can but I'm looking. I
thought I thought Asylum was perfect on that. The same thing with the challenge
things. Yeah, totally it was perfect. I thought it's still great,
it's still incredible. Yeah yeah, yeah, I mean I really enjoyed this
game overall. Like I think the world design is a lot better, Like
the city is more is more diverse, there's more stuff going on, like
moving in and out of story objectives and then back out of the end of
the world is a lot more seamless. Ye. Like the wheel thing when
you would hold in right on the dpad and it would show you just kind
of like how many meters, it was like, Okay, well I want
to do this two faced thing or that still makes sense, but it's I
don't know, like maybe it's just part of my problem with the game overall.
But I popped the wheel open and just look at the stuff available and
go don't want to do any of that. Yeah, a lot of it.
A lot of it is very repetitive, like you know, you're disarming
like landmines they've played story taking out checkpoints and like those that are like look
for firefight. They are like two dozen of those. You know, Like
there's a lot of that stuff and they're very very similar. Yeah, like
all the two faced stuff, the bank robberies, you know, those are
all very similar. Stuff with Penguin is is the same. The way I
muted though, was instead of like backing out to a menu and be like
I want to try, you know, to get three stars on a Predator
challenge. Yeah. My thought was like the two faced stuff was a nice
way to incorporate that into the story. Right. It's like when I wanted
to do a predator challenge, it's like, Okay, I'll just go to
a two face you're right, you're right. Like they they didn't abstract the
challenges out to a separate menu anymore. They're just all in the world,
but they still have in the menu. There's still a separate R challenge those
those those also exist in the world, like you can't do those from the
menu if you want, but they're also just there. You can just stumble
into them. One thing I super loved it wasn't it kind of it was
all in the story was the different ways you would do the detective stuff where
it's like, I don't know, if you got to the thing where there's
like a car crash and you're trying to figure out like where someone exited the
car, and like, okay, I gotta rewind this and see where the
door flew and then maybe I can. You got the kind of holographic projection
of whatever that hollow lens that's from Origins actually, yeah, yeah, that
was Origins all the times the scrubbing through the timeline stuff is all, oh
shit, Okay, I guess I didn't get to that stuff. But they
also had in this one. Yeah, man, that's a bummer. I
thought that they would have scrapped all that shit because because I like, there's
a little bit of like the monitor stuff as part of the story. It
was the monitor stuff in Origin where it was like, hey, I'm gonna
focus in on this cell and there's where a guy put his hand talking about
scrubbing through footage like security cam footage or whatever. Yeah, like that in
Origins, yes, okay, but it was it was in World you were
standing somewhere and rewinding stuff. There's a fair amount of that in here too.
So I thought all the gadgety detective stuff like we're talking about here was
pretty good in this game, but I didn't realize how much of it was
like that specific like that was the thing in Origins. Was like, now
you can rewind it and put it together for the like, that was the
the thing right in that game, And it just it was a cool idea
that every time I encountered it, an Origin has just seemed like it was
a little much what I'm hearing here is I'm glad I didn't play a bunch
of Origins because yeah, more of this stuff would have seemed familiar if I
had, I guess. Yeah, And that's kind of where I'm at as
well. It's like, you know that we've they've been leaning on this stuff
for for a long long time, you know, And because I did,
I played through Origins a couple of times. Actually, so I've got a
little Batman fatigue. Yeah, so I didn't like, you know, absolutely
love this game, but said by a man with it batman tattoo? Yeah
wow wait really yeah? Do yeh? Where is it? It's I'll show
you later, Okay, all right, all right, I'm not a big
Batman guy, but I thought the story was better than it should have been.
Little pass muster with your comic book fandom. All right. So they've
been leaning very heavily once again on you know, like the Joker and two
Face and Penguin. You know, they all make their returns this time.
There's there's a whole whole cast of villains that they could have, you know,
tapped, but they decided, well, I'm sure there's a huge portion
of the audience who doesn't know anybody else. Yeah, they got to make
a mainstream Batman product. At to do that, they tried with some like
doctor Strange stuff in City and then didn't. Yeah, yeah, there's doctor
strays, Like Black Mask was big and origins, right, well, that
was always the thing. And in the first couple of games, like there
was a cavalcade of people, you know, like it wasn't just those guys
would be like there's a killer Crock or whatever, like just so they kind
of hit the hot the big names while still having some cool side characters.
This game have a lot of that too, or is it ever everyone kind
of a heavy hitter. No, there's definitely, Like I went through a
bunch of the bios because I don't know Batman and like two or three Bruce
Wayne, he's a millionaire playboy Okay, right, Seam, I knew it.
Parents murdered. Yeah, there's there's a handful of villains in this that
we're really introduced in the comics in the last like five to ten years.
Yeah, there's some kind of obscure stuff as well. So like as a
fan, like I love seeing that stuff, but I'm trying so hard not
to talk about like spoil it. Yeah, there's there's like so that's kind
of what I thought it was really good about the story is that they're there's
stuff you could spoil, I guess is the way to put it. Like
they go in some interesting directions with this, even even outside of like the
the thing everybody knows by now I would assume is that, you know,
the Joker is actually represented pretty heavily in the game, but as like a
Seid of hallucinations. You know, he is dead, like he died in
City, and they stick with that. But I think if you're a fan
and upon like two minutes of meeting the Arkham Knights, I think you'll know
exactly really did you know? Yeah, because I was like I didn't know,
but it really drove me, like I really wanted to know who it
was. Yeah, Like they introduced Arkham Knight as like this brand new character,
but as it turns out, it might not be, like it's someone
kind of familiar with Batman. Yeah, well I regret out of the gate.
It's like right, like Alfred says, like the first time you meet
him, he's like he seems to have a grudge against you, so he
must be somebody from your past. And at this moment last week where I
was just like, you know what, like, I'm just gonna look up
the identity of this thing because I have a theory about it and I just
kind of want to know. Yeah, and then saw the name. It
was like, all right, I have no idea. Who the fuck?
That is so great they actually the story ends up beating you over the head
with like I knew who it was by the time I got to that point,
just because they don't make any secret out of it, Okay, right,
So yeah, it was thinly veiled and you know, they were big,
wide sweeping, you know, swerves to try and avoid it, but
it was exactly who who I thought it was. So that was that was
kind of a disappointment, I guess. But be getting to that point,
I thought was handled very well. Like yeah, like almost every dramatic moment
in the game is like shockingly well done for a comic book where everything is
like larger than life and kind of silly. Right, Yeah, and I
like all the nods backs too, you know, previous comics, Like you
know, there's there's a lot of killing joke in there. Yeah, it
long Halloween references and stuff. Yeah, real subtle stuff like that. I
think they kind of they earned the M rating pretty well. Oh yeah,
yeah because of the first of the first one that's got an M and like,
I mean, it's just like darker in terms of the even the dialogue
and stuff. You know, like some of the things that come out of
Joker's mouth are just awful. Oh really yeah, lots of talk of murder
if you tos of it as well. I guess one thing I'm glad they
didn't lean too heavily on was because Scarecrow is a big part of this game,
and I thought that since everyone really loved that stuff in Asylum, with
like the glitches and stuff like that, Like I loved that part an Asylum.
I thought that there were sanity effects every five internal darkness, oh your
volumeter is going up and around, or psychoman iss shit. Right, they
didn't go too too hard on. I think they do a decent amount of
it, but they're really subtle with it. In a lot of cases,
you know, it'll just be like, oh, Joker popped up in some
weird way in a cinematic that you didn't expect or something. Yeah, you're
panning around and you think someone's behind you and then you pan around again.
Yeah, that guy's not there anymore. Yeah, they do a lot of
a lot of cool stuff with like you saw some of it in the quick
look of like the scene, the scene looking one way and then you pay
the camera around and when you turn back around, it's completely different. Like,
they do a lot of that stuff really effectively. Yeah, it's done
very well. A lot of good like visual storytelling and cinematic kind of stuff.
Just general presentation is really solid. A lot of slow walking and talking
to the risks. They tremendous amount. Yeah, the risk chatter just seems
it seems like there's a whole fucking lot of that there is the kind of
annoyed me and even having to like pop up like okay, let's have this
fucking pan around to the front of the batmobile so you can watch him talking
to someone and get a good look at his fucking emotionless face. Like that
stuff. I mean, I get bad, man, it's not supposed to
be an emotional guy, but that stuff kind of just looks bad. But
he's just a cool motherfucker. He just doesn't give a fuck. Also,
does he does he does he have one of those throat mics where he can
communicate with people without talking. He must because like his mouth doesn't move in
some of those. I always really wait, but he's talking to people.
I thought I thought that was just internal models. Look, I've seen him
on the wrist talking to Oracle and has his mouth not Hey, maybe just
talk out to like one more thing that's broke broken on the PC version.
But I played that entire game on PC and I did not have any problems.
Like I'm not discounting, like I know there have been major, major
problems in there. Yeah, I just I feel really lucky that I was
able to play at all. And when you do those things in the I
and I file, like he was running sixty frames a second, looking awesome,
like if you've got a machine that can run it the rate and played
a little bit more of it the last because they patched it over the weekend,
right and fixed a couple of things. So at that point, like
let's let's change the frame rate from thirty to sixty, s out goes and
yeah, it ran all right for me as well. Yeah, but it's
like they're definitely going to add it to the options as well, like they're
gonna flesh out because it's like you can to you can disable motion blur if
you don't like motion blur. Uh, but you still have to go edit
a file to do it. Like they're gonna apparently change all the option settings
to be more like an actual PC game. I think they did that with
a recent patch. Have you gone in there to check? I did not,
but I know there's stuff that they were gonna add. Okay, I
think it's in this this recent patch, like the one that hit over the
weekend that's been the only patch. Yeah, yeah, okay, Well,
hey, the console versions are all right, Yeah, it sounds like the
Xbox version is great too, But yeah, the p S four is like
it's kind of shocking that like everything about the built on the old Batman games.
You know, it's very obviously just the same engine that they've iterated on,
Like everything about the presentation of it is basically the same. But it
just looks fantastic. Yeah, even at like thirty friends for a second years,
it's just like super consistent, smooth, a good job. Also,
anyone that's about to start the game immediately going to the options and change the
batmobile, talk to god, why was that not on by defaults twenty hours
of the game before I knew that. It helps so much. So basically,
well if anybody doesn't know, like the acceleration is on the right trigger,
but like going into tank mode is on left trigger when you naturally want
to hit that to break in reverse, right, Yeah, Yeah, because
the default is ART to accelerate and X to break in reverse, which is
just goes against everything. Anyone who's ever played a driving like I was constantly
when I was trying to corner and I needed a break, I would just
pop into tank mode for the first like twenty hours of the game, which
is a really good way to break. Yeah, because that's not faster than
you would ye know, there's stuff where you're trying to get away from,
like pursuing vehicles and later in the game, and it's like you don't want
to go into tank mode of this. Yes, some of that later game
batmobile stuff was one specific thing. I think we're probably talking about the same
thing. There were two that there were two that I enjoy, but I
wonder which one you're talking about. I didn't have that much of a problem
with those Cobra tanks. I know you didn't like those at all. Yeah,
they're I mean, yeah, and there's like a there's a worse version
of that thing that it manifests as a boss, which I thought was kind
of annoying. But are you talking about the earth mover, the the bigger
thing that chases you quickly? Yes? I hated that, like anything that
involved like a lot of like not in take mode but standard batmobile driving super
fast through tubes with a bunch of obstacles. Yeah, there's super trial and
error focused and like you were just like because there are so many situations where
they have you like you know, you're driving in tubes where they'll you'll have
to go drive up on the wall or on the ceiling, and if you
lose your speed at all, you're just gonna fall off first. None of
that stuff, like that first Riddler thing is on what I did, and
none of that seems cool in any way. Gets it's way harder than that.
And is it forced on you or is that all sides stuff? Stuff
is all optional, But but they do integrate some of that stuff into other
story. Oh, I know what the other vehicle thing you're talking about is,
Yeah, okay, Yeah, that that's annoying, kind of a PA
in the Yeah, that's that's too bad. It's not bad with checkpoints though,
like, yeah, it's one more talking about like OK, each step
of the way, every time you feel like the default tank controls are trying
to make it control like a shooter, where it is like a left trigger
to aim. I mean there is even a zoom in you know you're in
fact, you effectively go for headshots on the drone takes, yeah, because
if you hit them in the turret, they die in one hit. The
best thing you can do is as soon as you get the option get the
upgrade for the drone virus, and that makes it so you can make other
drones fight for you, and that just that clears the field somewhat. Not
only that, but the the enemy drones will target the friendly drones and stop
shooting at you at that point. Yep. I still think it is a
really satisfying game overall, for you know, graphically and in terms of story
and presentation. Kind of made up for some of the gameplay shortcomings. Yeah,
for as like you know, fatigue, as much fatigue I felt like,
you know, playing this, The story I think was strong enough to
hold my throughout. They do they so I haven't. You know, there's
the whole thing about like you don't get a full ending, you don't see
credits unless you get one hundred percent right, It's true. But like I
felt like when I finished the story, the main story progression, like if
I had stopped playing there, I would have been satisfied with it. They
do a really good job of rapp Yeah, the whole last sequence, Yeah,
is really well done. And I almost kind of recommend not doing a
lot of the side stuff before you you finished the game, because no spoiler.
Yeah, but things change, and the dialogue with some of these side
missions and villains direct will change depending on whether or not you've gone through that
initial ends. Like, yeah, I went back and wrapped up to the
Penguin side quest chain after I had finished the main story. Like, yeah,
they even had you know, Nold North does Penguin in these games,
and like they even had him do a whole different set of dialogue that reflects
what happened at the end of the main progression. Yeah, it's it's it's
pretty clever. Yeah, I can't wait to see what this team does.
Yes, Yes, that is the real exciting thing about this game coming out,
Like as much as I enjoyed playing the game, I'd want to know
what Rockstady is going to do after this. Sure, Yeah, and like
see if they'll stick to it and not make another Batman game. God,
I hope. Yeah. They said so many times in the run up to
this game that this was like the end of their trilogy. Yeah, it
would be real, like if we could kick off another trilogy on the end
of the right, that would be the fucking worst. Oh yeah, I
don't even think about it. So this is it, You're you're this is
you are officially done with Batman after this. Be terrible if they announced another
one. Yeah, yes, it would be a huge disappointment if they if
they went back to the well again, what is the studio the made origins?
Because they was just called like Brothers Warner Brothers Montreal. Okay, what
else did they do? I think they that may have been their first game,
maybe like the armored edition of the wu Arkham City. That seems likely.
Yeah, not positive, I think that's right. Uh. Yeah,
there's a decent, decent amount of people pointing to Superman after this game,
because yeah, that sounds like the worst possible idea to me. Yeah,
I guess you know, it's worth considering that the DC has got there.
I guess they've been trying for years, but they're really ramping up their their
movie efforts as a studio. They're really trying to go after the Marvel.
I'd be seeing like an actual Justice League, yeah, type of scenario,
because I mean, different heroes. There's another there was Man of Steel,
there's another Superman movie coming. Oh no, no, I guess the next
one is the Batman versus Superman, and then that's going to lead in Justice
League. And there's a Suicide Squad movie, and blah blah blah Squad.
Are there any big It's like Superman in then or Batman or because Joker's in
there. I don't really know anything about Suicide Squad outside of these like Jokers.
It's some crazy side story where all these villains get conscripted into its.
Yeah, it sounds crazy black ops mission. Yeah, I think good guys.
The villains like Harley Quinn is in it. They're getting they're getting shit
done for good guys. I guess they've become right. I don't know anything
about they. Like my understanding is they all get plucked out of prison by
the government by like the CIA or whatever exam and they're like, all right,
you can either rotten prison or you can do these missions for us.
Okay, uh WB games, we all has done. Yeah, they did
Armored Edition. They did as something called Cartoon Universe, which was some kind
of like web game arc Margins, and something called Lego Legends of Chima Online
from iOS just for iOS and some kind of web thing as well. Interesting.
Yeah, there's you know, they're like billboards for Lex Corp. In
this game, and they like you get you get a voicemail from one point.
Come on, that's a very tiny little side. But I was happy
when I heard it. But yeah, yeah, I know. But I
mean, those are some of the things that are pointing to a Superman game.
But I hope that they don't do that, because out do you make
a good game out of Superman? You don't. You make him he gets
poisoned and he's not as tough and then he could be beat. Okay,
so you're in a city built out of kryptonite. Yeah, there's a city
and if you go up real high it's kryptonites. You can only fly so
high, So you got to stay in the city and fly the ranks.
We had to evacuate the entire city because it's a dodent type of kryptonite that
makes regular people sick too, so they had to leave on busses. And
now it's Superman alone in the city with the cavalcade of bad guys that are
all hoping to capitalize on his weekend state to destroy the Superman. Hold on,
I'm writing this down, all right, yeah, okay, all right,
I got it. Superman Arkham Asylum coming soon. Wasn't the prototype that
had the excuse of, like, yeah, the virus, the mutagen,
if it hits water, it just goes crazy. And that's why, like
they just surround the city with water. That made sense an infamous like you're
an electric man. Yeah, don't jump in the water. Sure. I
kind of like the way Batman bat Batman handles it because you go in and
then you just see the grappling hooks shoot out and he just comes back out.
Nope, yeah, Batman don't need to swim. Nope, it's got
a grappling hook all right. Well, Arkham, Knight and Sores, No,
I suppose, yeah, I'll get it. I really like it.
Oh yeah, it's pretty you have not yet started selling the PC version again.
Yeah, they issued that patch. Oh we'll get to that. Don't
worry. There's more and more talk to come on that subject. Jeff,
did you play any games that are not Batman? H? Me too.
I just want to reiterate here or not Batman, bat I've played PlayStation view
watch some fine programming. No, not even now. Okay, I wouldn't
call it fine program sure man, No, No, that's uh there's uh
yeah, this was kind of the come down week for me. Three definitely.
Uh so. Yeah, I didn't play too much. I'm kind of
fiddling around some stuff here and there, but nothing to any nothing of note.
Yeah, not ready to divulge yet. Yeah, all right, Like
I played some it was a Crash Drive two or something. I don't know.
It's a weird online multiplayer driving games like five bucks on s Team.
Maybe we'll do something with it first Drive too. It's been real silly.
Okay, Well then, Jason A striker Yo. Did you play anything besides
Batman? N? Probably it's it's man. I blazed through Batman though you
did? Holy shit? Like I thought I was playing a lot of that
game, although I was fixated on doing a lot of the side stuff,
and then you came in like the day after it came out, and we're
like, yeah, I finished it, Yep, finished it Jesus. And
then yeah, most of my Saturday was spent finishing up all the all the
sides. Wait, have you done everything besides the Riddlers? Yeah, I
mean the Riddler stuff is there's the one true grind. Yeah, like everything
else is approachable. I wrapped up everything, and then most of the Riddler
stuff up to the point where they're like, okay, you have to just
get trophies. Now there's no more story stuff. Forty three Riddler trophies that
I want nothing to do with the challenges. I tried two of the two
of the trophies immediately after finding out that I had to get them, and
I'm like, all right, all right, I'm gonna make an effort.
We'll try this. And the first one is like a physics based one where
you've got to move this metal ball through the statue or whatever, and then
the fucking ball wouldn't come up, See, it got stuck on some of
the geometries. The one where you have to electrify the two generators to lead
it through the little maze. Yeah, okay, I gave up on that
one too. It was some fury. And then the one right next to
that, you know, which was like half a block away. It's like,
here's all these you know, Riddler targets that you got to shoot,
and you start shooting them, and then all of a sudden, it just
it fails for whatever, Like it's not a timer, but it doesn't tell
you exactly how much time you have, and it's just seems random in it.
I'm just like, this is not fun, yeah at all. Some
of those Riddler trophies are, like the little challenge puzzles are fun. Some
are not so good. Yeah, there's way too much of that stuff.
And yeah locking true final full ending behind the Riddler trophy stuff seems insane,
yeah, because there's so much of it. No, thank you. But
yeah, other than that man coming down off of E three, I signed
up for PlayStation View as well. I found that they had a pop up
video marathon and really that was my entire I had watched like eleven hours on
the couch. Yeah, it was a major hand just it was great.
No, I couldn't even get a I didn't eat that day, Okay,
we I think I ate later that night because we went out for your birthday,
right man, Yeah, that's right. But yeah, prior to that
in a shower anything of face. Let me check out this place to pop
up video video. Yeah, like ten hours later, I still want some
good stuff. Yeah, that's that's about it for me though. All right,
well crap, I did play something wait thing that was quick? Yeah,
last played just now, so I spoke what's that track Mania two?
Maybe you heard of it? Yeah, no, go on, tell me
more coming out of you three. I've gotten a little bit back into track
Mania after playing track Mania Turbo at the show. I'm still trying to keep
track of which one of which one that is is that I'm playing track Mania
two Stadium two Okay, that's the one that there's also Canyon, yes,
and a third by Valley I think maybe not descript bio. Yeah, but
but Stadium is the one that people are actually playing. Okay, So those
are all under the track Mania two banner. Yeah, part all part of
Mania planet, because I mean, you know, going with shoot Mania,
going back like there was united and that there was also so that's the previous
generation of track that's united and forever and all that stuff that's all track Mania
one era stuff, and then these three things sum up kind of track Mania
two, and I guess Turbo is going to be like, hey, let's
actually get away from really many a planet and all this stuff into something that
might be manageable for people. We'll see how to manifests on PC. But
you know all those those obviously all those planets are about to be worth nothing.
I know that's a that's a sad planet economies or maybe it'll move forward.
Who knows all the pieces, we'll see what the PC version ends up
being. Like everything, Yeah, we'll come to PC. It sounds like
so that's it's a chance for them to kind of unify the player base again
behind one product and they don't fuck it up. Uh, we'll see how
that goes cool. That game will have VR support, and that sounds like
a fucking nightmare. That does sound crazy and I can't. I really want
to try it. I really want to try it. Apparently there is a
there is APS four demo for that, but that we did not see during
the three who I don't know. Oh yeah, I've been like super interested
in like VR stuff because I saw it like a video. I've read it
just the other day. Apparently with uh, certain Android phones that have like
Chrome installed or something like that, you can like do VR videos well actually,
so you can view like one hundred and eighty degree like recorded videos like
panoramic type stuff. And then your phone use is the you know, gyroscover
or whatever the hell it is on the inside, so you can actually move
the phone around and I'm actually making the motion here in the studio, which
is like the Google Cardboard type stuff your face, thank you, yes,
that there's there's my there's my foundation there. They have that on you when
it launched, too, the thing where it's like, oh, here's a
Japanese street festival and you can move the game pad around and look what kind
of what kind of weird video format is that? The supports that, So
it's like a bunch of cameras I guess, I mean, you know,
yeah, but I mean like just like what the file is it? Or
like does YouTube like specify like hey, this is a video that you can
like look around in three sixty degrees or whatever, like how do you know?
I guess I guess there's like a specific channel for that, like probably
the Google Cardboard channel or something. Like that. So yeah, that's how
I'd learned about Google Cardboard is it's literally a piece of cardboard that has these
little plastic lenses and you can strap your phone to it and then you know,
splits the images, you know, to make a stereosk opic and it
looks like VR and stuff. It's kind of cool. So I actually had
I ordered one of those and it should be here today's crossed. Okay,
I'm excited for it. Did we talk about gear VR last week at all?
Not really? So we have the Colman brought it by the last night
of the E three show. She's she's been messing around with it, so
yeah, that thing is all right. Yeah, like it's like shockingly okay,
yeah, I mean it's it's a it's a low powered system, but
you know that makes it more affordable, right. The graphic source power is
is not maybe not the best, but I mean she was she was just
doing well, yeah obviously, and she was just messing with some like unity
prototyping stuff. So it was nothing fully formed like graphically and stuff. But
it would be good in terms of latency. But yeah, like like latency
like kind of the screen door looking effect, you know, just kind of
it was. It was sharp ish, like pretty high res like not that
different from like the Morpheus and stuff like that. But yeah, that like
like Dan said, the latency was really good, and like talking to her
and some other people, sounds like that's what Karmac is worsting one. She
was talking a lot of that. He is focused on this kind of like
low end of the VR market, which seems super important. Like I didn't
realize Oculus was working with Sam Song on that thing. Yep. So that
stuff seems like, you know, maybe another five years from now or whatever,
when phones are way better than they are now. Yeah, maybe,
but well, yeah that could be kind of cool. You know, you're
like you've got the benefit of not having to worry about chords, right,
so yeah you can kind of turn you know, turn around as many times
as you want to see. I don't know, it feels like R is
the future of VR. I think that's been kind of something that's been going
around a little bit. But like if you the notion that, like,
hey, if you have a good set of augmented reality lenses, you could
just black them out and do VR two. Oh I see what you're saying.
Yeah, Okay, because there's They're definitely always gonna be value in in
fully simulating an artificial world. But I didn't I didn't think about that.
That's okay, God, it seems like they've got so far to go though
with like the limitations on Holly lens. As far as we tried it,
Yeah, tiny little viewport, that problem seems solvable. It's just at some
point it means that you are making a very expensive object, So like,
is there a way to get that down to consumer? Like that's the thing,
is, like the technology to do full peripheral vision for something like that
seems like it would exist immediately. You just have to get that at a
price point that makes sense to actually fucking show or sell to a human being,
right, And that's where all of this stuff starts to fall apart,
or could fall apart, depending on what price these things come in at.
Yea, even even that ge gear VR business, like you know, just
the headset itself is two hundred dollars, but that doesn't include is the display,
which is the phone? You know, it's probably you know, five,
six, seven eight. Luckily I've got one of the phones that that
it fits into, So like I've got a note four, so that that
will work. And what's the other version? Is it like the sis or
maybe it needs a different it's a different that gets sticky and gross. They
also are like developer Editions or whatever they're selling now the six it's not necessarily
like it seemed like Samsung was putting are putting the position to like, you
know, put something out as soon as possible. But yeah, this seems
like a first gen like you really don't want to pick this up. There's
nobody charge your phone while you're while it's been there. There's no like pass
through or anything like that. So it's just it's just out there to be
out there, I guess so, But yeah, I think if you go
to their website, they are calling it Developer Editions, so they're kind of
selling it's people that are supposed to be developing things for VR. It's not
it's not a big consumer push. But you can buy it at best Buy
as well. Really, well, that's crazy. Yeah, all right,
would you guys, would you guys VR it up on an airplane? Airplane?
No? Yeah, maybe, I don't know, I don't know,
just like watch a movie or yeah, if it's something where you're just keeping
your head. I'm not gonna pay e Velkrie and be like, you know,
training my neck around like crazy on a plane. Yeah. There's another
video that I saw where it's like, you know, and it like recreates
a movie theater, so when you look around, you see all the seats
around you, and then you've got the big screen like right in front of
you too. That seems kind of cool to me. You're gonna love how
Xbox won it's partner in the Thoculus. Yeah, I can't wait. That's
a case where like if I wanted to watch a personal movie on an airplane,
I wouldn't want any of the head tracking stuff just to feed it to
me in my eyes. Yeah, I'm sure you could turn that off.
Yeah, but I wonder how that works in a play because you're constantly moving.
I don't know how physics were. But yeah, yeah, we'll see
we will see futures VR in a public place seems like a good way to
get robbed, yeah, or just look like an ass. Yeah, I
think like that, Like, yeah, but we have to get past that.
It's gonna be the new like bluetooth thing that you don't really see much
anymore and clip but that's different because that's people like yelling out loud yeah and
talking to seemingly no one like that that those people look literally crazy, But
there's actually a headset you at least know like, hey, they can't see
me, they're they're they're doing something else, Like it's it's a pretty clear
signifier that they're up to something. There's actually it's actually more chilling and dystopian
than me to imagine a bunch of people in a public place wearing VR headsets
than it is to think of them all when their homes doing it. Because
if we get to the point where people can't even bother to leave the house
or can't bother to take the headset off when they go out in public,
we're fucked. And when it's a very thin pair of glasses that you can
wear all the time that you can then blackout when you want or straight up
a direct neural interface, yeah, okay, okay, and I'm ready that's
what black ops three there. It is all about their their neural interface off
the ride mill like when we start getting ocular implants or something like that where
you don't have to like then you get back to the bluetooth problem of these
people look insane, Yeah, and you don't know why or yes, or
they interacting with somebody that you can't see, or are they just And that's
the that's the thing we have to kind of like the people have to solve
is the societal stuff around it. And they never solved it. For Bluetooth
headsets, these people just look like but like fucking sure, shit didn't solve
it for Google glass what happened, But like what happens when you can't see
the glasses anymore? Like like like that's that's the the larger thing. But
like the Bluetooth headset was our step on the way to fucking Star Trek communters,
the thing that everyone says they want, but in reality they're like,
nope, fuck that. Those people look like lunati. That's because it was
on their ear and not on their lapel. But it wasn't about it wasn't
about how that part of it looked. It was about them walking down the
street just having a conversation. And that is behavior that we currently associate with
like people that don't have it together. You still see it though with people
that have like the the Apple things with the little clip. Yeah, I
see that on occasion, but you almost never see the just the ear clip
thing, that's true. I got one with my copy of Warhawk. Nice.
Yeah, I used it for Warhawk. Oh yeah, I think I've
got that thing too. It's just the standard PS three bluetooth. No,
that was the Jabra one. That was the weird offbrand one, so Calm
came with the official Sony bluetooth. Weir, I got one of those.
It sucked. All those things sucked. Things always suck. Yep. I
saw that thing sitting on my coffee table yesterday and I was like, oh,
wait that thing right, somebody cared about that baby? Yeah? Terrible?
Yes? Uh Dan, Yes, did you play anything besides Batman?
Uh? I's been working on the usual. I mean this actual weekend,
I haven't had much at chance to play anything because that was in Kansas City,
right, But I've been playing a lot of Witcher stuff last week.
I feel like I'm almost getting in that Mexico of Red Dead section of Witcher
to where I feel like I've been looking for Dandylion for like twenty hours now.
Is that because you're running into side stuff that you keep doing. I
do. I do a ton of side stuff. It's just yeah, the
main story has just been like, all right, they just or this guy
or are they just failing to get to the point they're kind of I'm just
talking to so many people trying to find this fucking guy. They sang songs
or whatever so much. It's just take away forever. But I still love
it from the previous games because he's an idiot. He's a jerk. All
I know of him is is his voice over in the loading screens, you
know, like of setting up where the story is at. He does not
sound like like when I read about him, he's like they described him as
this like as this rakish womanizing barred figure, and that's how I know.
And he sounds super rim and like super self serious and those those monologues.
It's like, this guy does not sound like a good time him. He's
also an actor, so he's probably playing it up. Of course, let's
see. Yeah, I'm still loving it, but yeah, it's just kind
of dragging for me. I beat you must build a boat. I built
a boat? Nice? Yeah, Wow, I haven't I spoiled the ending
of that. Oh fuck man, man, I got a pretty big boat.
I got sales on it. I just got sales. But it's not
a full boat yet. I mean it's seaworthy. Oh, getting to the
point can you keep going to the fun up? Think about you must build
a boat? As you start with a boat, it's built, you are
building a bigger boat. Where's the value? It should have been called you
must build a bigger boat? Yeah, but he still didn't fit in the
app store. Yeah. Are you getting to the point where you have all
the rooms? That makes sense as far as like, oh, here's the
place where I grade my staff and my swords, and I'm just like everything
I'm gonna add now, like what is it even gonna be? Yeah,
you get to a point where it's literally like the rooms don't do anything.
It's just like, oh, hey, here's my garden. What do you
think of my garden? And there's nothing you buy or anything. I think
there's one room where's just some dude that hangs out there and he's like when
you try to talk to him. I don't know if that's new game plus
stuff or whatever. There are some secrets, so there are secret characters and
some stuff in that game that you can get. But yeah, it was
great. I mean I put it right up there with ten million. Is
there anything mechanically different between this and ten million? So the items appear in
the board itself instead of in a separate inventory. You can kind of make
matches while matches are matching, okay, which you know give raises the combo
potential quite a bit. Yeah, it's but it's very much. It's very
it's very much a follow up to that game. Okay. Yeah, And
just like ten million, like the second I was done, I was kind
of like, all right, I think I'm done with this. I think
it took like four or five hours or something like. Yeah, I totally
got my mine. He's worth out of it. Probably won't play it again,
but yeah, you know that that week that you guys were talking about
this coming out, you know, I was reminded I never played ten million,
so I went and bought that, which I'm almost done with, and
like, I can't see going on to another game like this any times.
Yeah, there was a good break between the two games, and that was
good. That's a it's a solid game, like a lot. As soon
as this guy's next game comes out, I guess I'll play you just build
a boat smart, Uh, that's like that. I just kind of dabbled
with. You know, I can download my Xbox three sixty games or some
of them downloaded. Like I started playing some more Geometry Wars. I also
played that in the ball fashion. It's great. It's arguably in arguably the
best Gennel Tree Wars. Oh yeah, for sure. Still, yeah,
it's fantastic. So how do you guys get in the in the program?
So I signed up for like the Preview. Oh god, that is a
long and byzantine process. Have you When you start it up for it,
you don't get it immediately. You get it the next time they push an
update. So yeah, let's get accepted. It's not yeah, that's what
it is. It's not a complicated series of things to do. It's just
that it's so nebulous about when the next step will happen. Again, if
you're in or not is sometimes not clear. Because you I thought I was.
I thought, so if you can I think if you can download the
Xbox Preview dashboard dashboard, then you're in, all right. But that's the
second app. That's it's important to note there are two apps. There's the
registration app, so there's the Preview Death four DApp. So like the registration
app is the thing you'll get from putting the code in. I just want
to play meat Meat Boy. Yeah, but you go in that and press
the one button in the application and it registers you. Weird, But then
it'll be like, you know, wait until blah blah blah, and you'll
get further instructions. And I went like a week plus without hearing anything.
Dang like like it's just it doesn't tell you what's going on to yea,
at some point eventually you will get in. Yeah, I didn't get a
confirmation or anything, but like, I guess if I can download those three
sixty games, you're right, yeah, yeah, that should be what that
means. But I knew I was gonna want to download a ton of XBLA
games that I have just have like hundreds of my three sixty. So I
bought a two terabyte drive like a little sea Gate and a USB three point
zero drive. That is a great feeling, going from it's saying like eighty
nine percent full to thirteen percent literally just by plugging a thing in all I
had to too. Oh it feels so good. I've got like ten gig
free my Xbox mine is always perpetually close to full, Like I've deleted almost
everything off the Xbox One, Like I don't know what's taking up the space
anymore except that, oh what is it? Fuck? I have something solved
that's like seventy you have a master Chief collection, because that's huge. Yeah,
yeah, it's definitely after adst It's like, oh my god. This
so yeah, I'm just it's stuff that I look at and go like,
am I really going to ever play Scream Ride? Would I mind waiting for
it to download again? If I were to play Scream Ride? Okay,
So I've just uninstalled like a ton of ship and still like halfway full or
more, and I'm like, I don't have that much on here. That's
what you have to think about it. Like, once I had the two
terabyte thing, it's like, well, I guess I'm reinstalling Scream Ride and
Project Spark, Right, Why am I doing this? I'm never gonna play
this? Why would you do that? Because I can That's nope, Okay,
back on board, I cannot argue with all right, all right,
so yeah, having over two terabytes on both my tuck one and PlayStation four
is a real good. That sounds liberating. Yeah, yeah, good for
you man. Yeah, to answer your question, they show up in the
Xbox one and dashboard just like an Xbox One game. They occupy like a
tile the same way. They got a little stripped down the side that says
Xbox three sixty. So you know that it's an old game. Oh interesting,
But to the system, yeah, like it. You know, it'll
show up on your friends list that you're playing it. Like it. It
functions just like an Xbox one game would, okay, except that you know
when you launch the game for the first or every time you launch the game,
you see the full three sixty boot up sequence, because it's like it's
literally booting a virtual three sixty. And I think the first time you launch
any three sixty game, there's a weight process of like it. It kind
of gets your save shit together out of the cloud. The three sixty cloud
kind of takes a while. Yeah, so so what about like, you
know, popping in the disk and then like download. It'll have to download
something from the internet to make that go as well. Sure, but yeah,
it'll do a full install, like it won't try to read the game
off the drive like the three sixty would. It still does the Xbox One
thing I haven't actually done this yet, but that's been in talking to them
at D three. That's what that's how it sounded like. Cool. And
then what is it? You hit uh both back and start or whatever the
fuck you. I think it's called menu and something surer. Still, yes,
Hamburger, I know, I don't. I still don't know the day
with the other button H, they're both the H button, just push them
together and then you get the three six. Yeah it's k. Yeah.
When you hit both of those, you get the three sixty guy that pops
up and it's just like a three sixty, although it's kind of it's weird
because going through friends and achievements and stuff on there, it all populates instantly
like it's way faster sixty. Yeah, that's pretty funny. Pretty It makes
you realize how like strapped that thing it was for resources or oh yeah,
how much they were asking out of that machine that it wasn't designed for.
By the end, if you had a huge list full FLA games just going
into that, you just see that spinning thing forever. And I still feel
like there's a process of like enumerating the games you have available to install on
an Xbox One like scrolling over to that right side and seeing it empty for
like forty five seconds and then it just goes, oh wait, you wann
like forty games here? Yeah, like, yeah, fucking thanks. Yep,
but you said you were playing Geometry Wars. Is that working out right?
It works great? Yeah, because that's I mean, that is the
epitome of the game. Well, I guess that and meat boy that you
need you know, super instant response controls and yeah, it plays exactly like
our Remember Digital Foundry declared Geometry Wars perfect as far as the emulation goes,
and it was stuff like mass effect kind of heavier stuff that it was not
running as well. That was pretty wasn't really curious to see what games get
added? Yes, that's the real question. Turn that shit on, man.
Why not since they've they've business, they've straight up said it's business holding
back what gets what gets added to that list? Dude? Yeah, they'll
happily give you your games, But what if we remastered them for you?
Perhaps you want the sequel to this game? I think the even more terrifying
scenario is what if they don't remaster them and they still want like four ninety
nine as like a transfer fee or some bullshit. There's nothing to remaster.
I mean a lot of them are inn HD convenience fee. Pay us five
dollars in convenience fees, and you can play your old game on your take
master. We'll keep the server, we'll keep the servers up for Burnout Paradise
if you pay this fee. All right, sign me up. That's like
the one situation's going to start a Patreon for the Burnout Paradise servers and as
long as enough people are in we laugh. But yeah, yeah, all
right. I also just binged through Batman and played nothing else, so tapped
out on video games. It's a good ben game. Yeah, it's one
of the first games in a while that like I just sat down and ten
hours later, like that was my whole day. I thought that that's exactly
how it was going to go for me, Like I was kind of like,
yeah, when I saw when I sat for the quick look, I
was like, yeah, there's some stuff in here that I'm not not super
jazz on, but whatever, man fucking Batman. There's nothing like I'm not
playing anything else right now. I'm gonna fucking plow through this game. And
then played like two hours and went like fucking nah, and like turned it
off and then came back like a couple of hours later, played like another
little you know, a couple of checkpoints forward. So yeah, no,
I'm good. And then I have kind of done that for like the last
week to get to where I am, and I don't know, like I'll
keep checking in on it as they patch it or whatever, but I just
don't. I would say power there's no pull. There's no pull at all
for him. For me, I would say power through because I think that
ace Chemicals section, that's a pretty long mission and I remember liking it about
It's also the mission that I played a year ago and thought like, man,
this is no good. See, I got more into the story as
it went forward. I think you're a kind of one of the weaker points
in the story. I think if you gave it another another two hours and
then you still felt this way, maybe then ditch. But I think it
gets a lot better than I think. The story is fantastic. You can
do it. I might as well see where the patches go first. At
this point. Oh yeah, well I'm not having any any trouble with it
running. Or I mean, alternately, I could wait until let's see July
fourteenth and play EA Sports Rory Mackelroy PGA Tour, or hey the thirteenth when
on a Chimbara Z two Chaos comes out. God, they're still making those
games. Oh yeah, I've got that day asked off? Wow coming in?
Yeah, we're really moving into the summer doldrums here, aren't we.
It's the I mean, I'm looking at game stop. So it's like,
this is obviously going to be retail stuff. If you look at like Steam
and you look at like downloadables, it's going to be a somewhat different story.
Got W three is coming out at some point here. That's July fourteenth.
That Godzilla game is out the same day. That might be all right.
We'll see, I mean it might a lot of things might be all
right. Like I think most week, Jay Stars Victory is it? Is
it versus or vs Plus Versus plus? Jason seems very interesting, dude,
That game is going to be amazing. I'm telling you. What about Hyperdimension
Neptunia Rebirth three V Generation. Is this the Cooking one or the dance version
or Theory remake? Is it the shooter he play as a Dreamcast. There's
so many of these Deception four. That could be cool day. Yeah,
so I've played through Trapped yea, which was what the third one? I
thought the fourth one was the last one. They came out on p S
three and Vita. There was a it was in the Deception series. They're
saying this one is the Deception four, the Nightmare Princess. Are you what
did they call that last one? Are you pissed off that it's a weird
numbering thing that we've got going on here? Okay, huh, okay,
well whatever, they wrapped it up neatly. Yeah, that was Deception four
Blood Ties. That was the PS three one. Yeah, okay, so
maybe this is maybe this is that plus some stuff I actually don't know,
or maybe maybe it's a Persona two situation that just came out. You remember
playing it right before I came here, huh stumping over the Memories one twenty
fifteen, end of July. Oh yeah, so it's looking bleak. That
fucking Legend of k remake that they've been threatening to release for like the last
six months, that might actually come out in July, So you guys in
September whatever, man August fourth rare replay. Yeah, you know that I'm
super looking for we want to play Cameo on an Xbox One, you know,
actually, yeah, can you hold that right after this and do that?
But I'm not gonna I assume that that's exactly how those games will run
and that replay collection is. It'll just be like, hey, we're gonna
look, Viva Pinata now works, and you now own Viva Pinata as a
part of buying this disc. The I saw it a little bit of Y
three. There is a menu that ties all those games together. Yeah,
I know, but I'm sure like at some point like it's the same technology.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you're probably right about that
for sure. This gives you a bunch of QR codes. I just want
to play or sup, I just I want to see what you have to
spell in our c pro. Yes, absolutely, if it is still Nintendo
or not. And August is Madden that Dishonored definitive thing until dawn. Wait,
Dishonored definitive or Dishonored a definitive edition. So I'm thinking of twenty five.
I'm thinking of Definitive dark Side dark Side Definitive Definitive. They put out
some like are they doing work on that? Sounds like it's not just the
PC version on I didn't actually look at the side by side it is.
Maybe it is dan Geky Bunko Fighting Climax. Yep, that's the that's the
Vita game, right this. Yeah, that's just fun to say. And
gecky Bunko bunk some dice game my grandma places. Yeah, is that what
this is? Yes, totally, well, this is the Dane version.
Okay, yes, she loves that. Okay, good wait what okay,
sorry, I'm oh okay, Uh, it's started. It is started.
We have find I'm sorry to just like sit here and look at web pages
and freak out, but uh, the hockey game for Xbox three sixty this
year is just called NHL Legacy Addition. Like they've taken the number off of
it. I'm wrapping it up like I'm looking at the Fox art. There's
no number on it, no more NHL, meaning meaning that they will probably
put it out forever. And now I don't know. I don't know what
that. I can know what it means. Is it gonna be the same
game with just the rosters updated or yeah, that's that's typically like when they
when they put the old platforms into like, I'm just it's still NHL NHL
sixteen on modern consoles, where they will happily sell you a deluxe edition for
an addition to end spot of course, if if you want to fucking go
down that hole. E d F two in September. Yeah, what do
they call the last DF? The second? This is the second D the
second DF game or at the Fence Force? Yeah, now they have twenty
fifty or something. Yeah, they've in Japan, They've done numbers. There
have been years on them. There have been two thousand and fifty of those
games, haven't there something like that. I think there's four, but each
one just gets worse. Take that back, man, take it back.
Still a three people that love, like and ironically love those I have a
lot of fun playing those. I'm not. I'm not going to dispute their
funness or whatever. That's obviously we can disagree on that stuff. But those
games are shit. I agree. I don't know what you're talking about.
It'll look like trash. What are you talking about? I get that,
like, it's funny that the fucking bugs don't move and just fucking disappear off
the stage. Me when you kill them? There I mean there's basically the
video game equivalent of a bad B movie, right, Yeah, and they
embrace that. Yeah, that's fine. I feel like they embrace like like,
yes, they embrace what they like they had the rest of Yeah,
exactly. It's not like they're not like masterful developers making some amazing thing that
way on purpose. They're like, let's just fucking lean into the part that
sucks and eventually fucking that because that's what all the people who like this game
are doing. See, they're fucking brilliant. Yeah, no, totally,
yes, you're right, you're right. I know video games are slowing down
during the long hot summer. Time to yeah, time to cultivate some other
interests for a couple of months. No, don't, don't. Don't listen
to him. That's fucking crazy. Yeah, I was stay inside. There
will be plenty of video games you could be playing on Steam or probably downloading
a lot of stuff. Looking at the games you can download from three sixty
now, I saw you can download Banjo Kazooi, and so I thought,
like, maybe this is the summer that I actually just go through one hundred
percent Bando Kazooi. Why would you do that? I don't know. I
don't really want to. I don't really like bandok. Yeah, like that's
I don't like it, and that's both good good game. But yeah,
I never I used to rent Bando Kazooi A sixty four. It didn't like
it that much. I feel weirdly guilty that I haven't beaten Banjo Kazooi,
and so I see it. Let go of that. Yeah, you have
to. You have to see it every time I go to my games on
Xbox. Yeah. Now it stares you in the face every time you go
to that HD. You'll never escape it. I have to beat Banjo ka
Zooi. No you don't. No, you don't know new video series me
one hundred percent of Bandok ZOOI don't say things allowed. I don't actually want
to do that. Yeah, I don't want to do that. Now that's
going to be fifteen comments. Gun, yeah, drood watch that. No,
there's not I'm cutting this part, all right, please do I'll save
us all Thank you. I have that power, Thank you. Uh.
I didn't play any video games this weekend, but I did. Uh.
I got out and saw both of the Book of Mormon and then Mad Max.
It was a good weekend. Yeah, I don't think I can consume
any other media for the rest of the year. You see your Assic World,
No, I saw that. No, So you saw Mad Max for
the first time yesterday. That is a great movie. It's pretty good.
Yea. By pretty good, I mean it's fucking glorious. Yeah. I've
been waiting for this. It's really good now and maybe I'll see it.
It is pretty fucking good. It's as good as everyone say it is.
Yeah, it's it sounds great. It kind of makes me want to go
back and watch the old movies. You've seen them, right? No?
Oh, I mean I've seen Road Warrior. Are they similar in tone?
I mean Road Warriors kind of. I saw those things so long ago that
I just I barely remember anything about Mad Max. No, like Roadwarrier,
No, the second one? Yeah? Uh wait, Mad Max is the
first one, right, Mad Max is the first one. If you want
to see something kind of tone tonally similar, it would be the Road Warrior,
which is the best one by far. Like one of the things I
found so fascinating about the movie, and like this is not the only thing
I liked about it by any means, but like the weird societal aspects of
it, or the sociological stuff, you know, like the bizarre like fetishization
of like chrome hot rod, fucking Himmi engine stuff, you know what I
mean, like like they're mixing, like they're mixing hot rods and Valhalla together
and stuff like that. You know, like all the weird it around,
like this cult cultish like society that has sprung up. I liked it when
they threw sticks at cars and they blew up. That was pretty good.
That was a good part. I like that. I mean everything about it
is is good. It's very good. I really like the very getting and
just yeah yeah, oh that visually it's incredible. Anyone else here's world,
No, No, I read Okay, it's pretty good. Yeah, that's
what I hear about that. I read the Miller like toyed with the frame
rate and practically every every shot of Mad Max like speeding up and slowing down
the frame rate to his whim kind of to make things like hit harder.
You can really tell in certain spots, like at the beginning. Yeah,
they're super obvious with it. I won't go on at lengths about it.
Everything. I'm the last person in the world besides Jeff Sward Like everything's like
center shot and and just like all up in your face, constant motion.
Oh god, it's great, it's really good. Good. All right,
I guess we should move on to news. Dan geky Bunko. Yeah,
but yes, it seems fun to say. That's gross. It sounds gross.
I don't think you're Let's move on the boom Co. Let's move on
the news Fighting Climax what is that same game? Yeah, we should definitely
move on to news. Then all the words in that title play an important
part. They use every piece of the title. Yeah. Uh, Batman,
he's awesome if you guys played Batman. No, let's talk about it
all right. War Brothers had some week last week, huh, with the
release of this PC version of Batman. Oh boy, coming hot off the
heels of the release of the PC version of Mortal Combat. Yeah, coming
hot off the heels of like Shadow of Mortar, which is actually a really
good PC port. That's true. Yeah, that's you know, that's that
hadn't actually thought about that. I hadn't thought about Shadow Mortar. I have
totally forgot about that because from my perspective remembering the MKX stuff, not that
that was like two months ago. Yeah, that was a total shit show,
Like and everybody's everybody's rushed to blame Rocksteady and our galaxy for this mess.
I was just like, does nobody paying attention to the fact that WB
is the ones that keeps putting out these like wretched PC ports, because like,
arguably Mortal Kombat was even more on fire than Batman. Yeah, there
was a lot of fucked up ship with that game. When I launched like
that, I was playing on PS four while they were patching at a billion
times. But it was like one of the things where apparently they just couldn't
fucking patch a part of the game, so every time I launched Steam,
it was downloading another ten gigs, like thanks Mortal Kombats. In some cases,
Yeah, it's just like you know, and like they'd release a patch
that deleted people saves at one point, like a lot of people couldn't download
the entire game for a very long time, Like that thing was a holy
shita. At least Batman. People are able to download and boot the game,
but I'm sure it doesn't excuse what was wrong with it. They can't
run it very well. It's like the stuff with Batman. It seems like
there are two, Like there there are people having technical issues with the game,
and then there are there's the part where like just it's a fucking suck
ass PC version of that game. In terms of available options. Yeah,
well, i'd say optimization probably falls into the first category. She will have
actual issues with like the frame rate, but even if it ran playably,
Yeah, but the okay, it's locked at thirty, you go into the
menu options, there's kind of fuck all there to mess with, Like that's
no good either. Uh, yeah, I don't know. I was able
to run it at a stable thirty with everything all their fucking NVIDIAs specific bullshit
turned on except for fog, and I was able to get a solid thirty
out of it and not really have any other issues. But yeah, it
sounds like there's some real funky shit. I think maybe one of the craziest
things to me is the fact that in the state it was in, you
still had like the Nvidio partnership and all the like big business stuff going on
around it. You know, that's probably why I had to come out date
And maybe maybe that's so much stuff. You know, it's like everyone says,
like why don't they delay this game. It's it's probably because they are
fucking signing so many. It's why it's why all bad games come out,
is because now there's so much marketing money being fucking focused on pushing a date
that if they missed that date, it's all money out the window or something.
Right, So nothing fails certain anymore. Everything fucking somehow magically makes their
fucking ship date with a big day one patch and stuff like. It's just
even easier on PC, where there is a serat yeah, yeah, shove
whatever out there, and then everybody asks for a refund now, so oh
shit, we shouldn't take this thing down before we don't make any money on
it whatsoever. Imagine how many people ask for Yeah, I would love to
know a gotally. I saw a plenty of the forum comments and stuff from
people saying they had Yeah. I mean even like green Man Gaming came out
and said like, hey, if f after the first patch comes out,
it's still fucked. We'll do some refunds, yeah, which they are not.
They're not. I don't found by the Steam stuff. Yeah, I
don't know. Yeah, it's it's one of those things where it's like it's
you know, yeah, a lot of people trying to point a lot of
fingers in a lot of directions. None of us worked on that game.
I don't know who to blame, but it's a shitty situation shouldn't for all
involved. I would love to know what actually happened. Yeah, I love
to know. Yeah, I don't think it's falls that Iron Galaxies feed.
Like there's always like ten or twelve people that were listening to the credits.
There's not even as yeah, as additional PC support or something like. I
don't know, it may have well been their fault. My gut says it
probably wasn't. But yeah, but like the rush to dig through the credits
and pick out a few names and then like start tracking down there like social
media profiles and stuff like fucking come on, yeah, I mean, like
if the buck stops with the money people who decided to ship the broken game,
like that's the bottom of life. It's weird because we, you know,
we know a couple of people in Iron Galaxies, Like I haven't talked
to any of them about this. I haven't either, but because I don't
have that phone number anymore. But yes, uh yeah. The point is
though, like it's whether it's whether it's due to an aptitude or a lack
of resources, or like a ridiculous, unachievable like release schedule. The people
at the top of the publisher are the only people that have the power to
actually prevent this thing from going out there. Yeah, like they're kind of
like the last line of defense as a go no go sort of thing.
And yeah, you know, like that's you know, those are the people
that are getting your money. Those are people that are gonna give you your
money back. So I'd probably try to hammer on them because they're the ones
that are gonna be able to say, Okay, let's put more money into
unfucking the situation. But whatever, I don't know, you know, like
people are mad. Yeah, sure, like they're gonna do what they So,
yeah, it's a what do you take PC games specialty shop like this,
it's it's you know, the past. Yeah, exactly before this year.
I remember, was it like two years ago that we Yeah, it
was kind of like we're I feel like we're out there going like, man,
they fucking finally got there. Man. PC ports are great, man,
fuck consoles like the holy shit. And then big a bunch of big
publishers turned around and proved us wrong. Yeah right, uh yeah, it's
a it's unfortunate, fucked up situation like this. Yeah, a platform like
that that has the capability of like so far above and beyond what modern consoles
are capable of, like the ships like that. Like it's just a clear
cut case of like not really carrying caring about that platform. That's That's exactly
what I was all ready to come into this podcast and kind of belly ache
about until Jason brought up Shadow of Mortar and I was like, oh,
I guess they are capable of I mean that publisher totally, it is capable
of putting out a functional PC game. They just have to hire the right
people, yeah weird or or you know like like give the original developer enough
of a budget to do it in the house or like whatever it takes,
Yeah, just do it right. You know. Batman was a game that
was pushed back quite a bit, Yes, and you know, like there
was that demo that were you there for that demo? Like they I saw
it at GDC last year, that that very first demo that was before I
had played it. You came back saying it ran and granted it's over a
year and a half ago now, yes, But also like the problems with
that build were so egregious that it wasn't even like, oh, they shouldn't
ship it like this. It was like they should not have brought it to
this meeting like this, Like they should not be showing this at all.
It was so fucked up that you couldn't play it, Like I don't know
how the guy was playing it. Yeah, it was like, you know,
like every two three seconds, the game was just hitching, like freezing
for a solid second like stuff like that. Yeah, but you know if
that was like you know, that might have been the console version running on
a dev kit PC, like who knows what that was true? Yeah,
but it's you know, it's fucked up situation, no matter how they got
to this point. Yeah, it sounds like, I mean, whatever,
you like, any of these situations that will get unfucked We will get patched
away, everyone will forget and move on. And I was surprised they will
just get slightly more angry next time it happens, until everything blows up.
I don't know, like what the endgame is here? Yeah, Like people
don't remember, they don't, they don't the anger doesn't stick for most people.
Maybe like how I don't know if it's wishful thinking, but maybe the
Steam refund stuff is gonna just head it off at the pass, you know,
like it'sily just going to say to people like, you can't put games
out that are this fuck up anymore because you're just you'll lose all the money
you could have made on them. Yeah, and as a consumer, it's
still instills a little bit of confidence in me as well, Like it's it's
such a crapshoot. You know, you don't know if the game's gonna run
right well, but you know, having that little, you know, bit
of like some kind of lever you can pull when when you get fucked,
Like, that's what people need. That's it's what everyone it has needed for
for a long time. It's you wonder, you know, like I don't
expect them to go down this road because they don't have to because they're still
selling retail discs and those have their own return policies and stuff. But you
start to wonder, like will Microsoft and Sony ever get into that type of
business? Would they ever add something similar unless they you know, like certainly
in some territories they would be legally obligated to do so. Yeah, Like
the EU has its own rules for for that sort of stuff, right,
But like would Microsoft ever say like, oh, yeah, no, we're
totally allowing refunds like this seems like their approach for their kind of early access
equivalent is the free demos for required for every game that goes into that.
I wish they had kept that requirement for every game like they had on the
three sixty. It sounds like the numbers just didn't make sense, like the
people were just going right to the retail, right to the paid version of
the game and weren't even downloading the demo, you know. So it's just
it sounds like that that was a lot of work the developers were doing that
no one actually cared about. When did they abandon that was for this platform?
Yeah? Yeah, Okay, there may have been one or two exceptions
on three three sixty, but I can't think every game was required of a
demo, every lag, every downloadable game. The game had to have a
try not not disc based case, but at least at least but they at
least had some standardization there. Yeah, and I don't like if if you
know, if they haven't started doing it already, Like, it's hard to
imagine a game being worse than the Master Chief collection in terms of being broken
and staying broken. From say, I might actually say, like Assassin's Creed
was was worse at the time, but at the length of time for Halo,
and maybe it makes it worse either way, though actually maybe, you
know, it's hard to say. I think some of my core disappointment is
that I just don't think a sass Creed Unity was a good game, Like,
even when it was working, it was like, this is not something
I wanted. I think, like, like you know, the frame rate
was horrible, like lots of the Companion app stuff was broken, but I
think people were able to finish it, even though, like you know,
there might have been eyeballs popping out of every NPC. The game was way
better then, but master Chief just had core functionality that didn't work for months.
You know, I think they're still working on it in some forms.
But but either way, like if they the events of Last Fall did not
usher in some glorious new age of console refunds. Stuff takes time to implement,
and I you know there are I know there are studios out there that
are like imposing some more pressure on or on some of their dev teams,
saying like this can't happen to us, see to it, it does not.
Yeah, So, like you know, I think there it was some
fallout from Assassin's Creed from Halo that that will hopefully get things in a better
direction there well should be. My only fear is that instead of like you
know, like you know, working conditions are already so miserable in a lot
of game development, Like, my only fear is that the publishers are just
coming down even harder on people that are already like sacrificing their entire lives to
make games. Right. Yeah, if it just becomes like, hey,
we're not giving you any additional resources for QA or are actually fixing the things
that QA finds, We're just gonna fire you, right, goes Yeah,
instead of like, hey, we're gonna give you a bigger team or whatever
it is that they need. If the solution is just hey, you're just
gonna crunch, but you know all the time harder than that sucks too.
That that assumes that these dev teams are working efficiently and intelligently, and there
are there aren't ways they could be structured to avoid this problem without a ton
of additional resources. I don't I don't know enough about any of these studios
to weigh in on that something's gotta change, though, Something's gotta give.
Yeah, it starts here. It's been it's been a rough year or so.
Yeah, for video game releases. Yeah, I was able to play
a cup around to Halo two last week. Yeah, it took a while
to get connected, but I got in there a little bit really Yeah.
Still still kind of took a long time. Yeah, still I got in
there. I haven't finished the whole whole match. I think the most of
the stuff then. Also, the Street Fighter four PS four edition is fixed.
Yes, I saw, I saw another patch either was coming or just
came out. Good for them, bad for them for sucking it up in
the Yeah, what the fuck? That game has been out on like four
other platforms already, Like, how did that even happen? Yeah, there's
been numerous developers touching that for like all the different ports. So how long
do you guys, how do you guys think until Batman is like maybe not
as patches it's going to get, but basically where it needs to be so
that that patch they put out did it fixed a couple of things, specific
things, but then they kind of said like, hey, we're still working
on this business. They very much said. I looked at the patch notes,
they very much said like, this is a preliminary patch. This is
It sounded like that was the short list of things they could get done immediately,
but then the bigger stuff, like they even mentioned like, hey,
we're working on v M usage and stuttering and stuff like that. I thought
that was included that maybe I just read that. No, there was like
no the stuff. Yeah, okay, there was a bigger list of stuff
they're still working in the patch notes, and there was stuff they already fixed.
But they keep saying they're taking it super seriously, and even if they
aren't, they have to say that at this because there's been like a lot
of outrage and it's one of the things where it's like, yeah, I
think I think people are are right to be mad, but maybe it's gone
a little too far in some cases. Yeah, imbody there, Yeah,
it man fine for me, but I'm yeah, it's ship. I guess
that's that's maybe just you know, like also it ran fine for me.
Yeah, it's it's probably easy for me to say that. It's kind of
it's it's a it's a crappy world where you have to like think about going
with the console version just because that's the only one that might work, probably
right, It's really it's a real shame, these big, big beefied fancy
GPUs just sitting there. Hey, damn good money, just sitting there.
Yeah. Uh man, everybody had a week last week? Huh oh yeah
about that Destiny well fuck right? Yeah. At a moment, I was
like, who else, Like, oh right, yeah, I'm not even
sure which one was worse, And that game is a death by fucking the
now thousand cuts. I guess, so every every time you turn around,
there's nine more dumb things about Destiny happening. And then I guess that that
interview with Luke Smith just became the boiling point. I don't know what happen.
Was there like a shader that got released that wasn't the separate thing that's
basically as well, I know it's not a separate shader that I got by
pre ordering Advanced Warfare was given out at E three. Really, it's not
the shady that was my actually exclusive fucking shader. Fucked those assholes and went
to E three. They should have fucking bought Advanced Warfare. It was a
good game, Fuck them, didn't. Didn't you have to pre order it
though? Yes, like once the game was out you couldn't even still get
the shader. Yes, you should have thought ahead. Hey, if you
fucking care so much about Destiny, you fucking need a black fucking shader so
fucking bad. You should have spent one hundred dollars on fucking the high end
version of Advanced Warfare. I got one of those codes and the shader it
was not what I thought. It was not even a black armor color.
It's it's literally all it's that's the color of your armor is dictated by this
thing you equip. And people care about this stuff. Oh yeah, I
think it determines the way your guy looks or your girl, like the you
know, the so what do you have to collect like five different purple shaders
if you wanted the color every part of yours. One thing. Stuff It's
it's like, it's like, wow, it's a shitty form of customization because
you can't customize individuals just you just equip it and it matches well, that's
what you want. But you're right. If you could just like move an
RGB slider around the thing, yeah, why not? Better? Hey why
not? They don't have the tech yet for that. Yeah. It's hard
stuff, but hard problems. But it is at least like a kind of
a one button if you buy three cases of Red Bull, you'll get one
RGB slide or get to that. We're getting to that. There's a lot
to unpack here, Uh, I mean so the interview, Yeah, it
was. It was around the Collector's edition of the Taking King, the expansion
they're putting out, the high end version of the game, which comes with
everything. It's it's so, it's so, it's it's their Game of the
Year edition equivalent, where it's like you buy it the day that Taking King
comes out out it comes with yes, exactly, it is the here is
everything, Destiny go. It's how many shaders you will You will be able
to acquire a lot of shaders over the course of your your experience in Destiny.
I bet, I bet I have at least a dozen at this point,
including Blacksmith. God damn. So yeah, gave me the edition previous
ship there was a Collector's edition of this thing that comes with additional items,
including a shader that is super black. It is blacker than the black shader
that came with Advanced Warfare. So the Blacksmith's not really THEO. It's like
more kind of gray and gold. That's a little dispoint. I don't care,
okay, But what's so the VP shader, the actual black v IP
ship, that's what it's called. Yeah, excuse me, he three.
That's an item you get playing the game. So that one one that's not
and that's not part of the collectors So that shader, that all black shader
and the other things that come with that everybody can get. Okay, all
right? So what what? What was in the Oh god? So I
believe that's the VIP package. Yeah, okay, I believe the thing the
thing in contention was a different set, Yes, was the digital If you
pre order the Collector it comes with the Collector's Edition, comes with the eighty
dollars package, the eighty dollars package of everything, and that was there's a
sixty dollars package of everything that doesn't come with this stuff. Right, No,
there's a non Collector's edition version of here is all of Destiny isn't there.
No, I'm sorry, there isn't there. Think it is the eighty
to get the Can you pay forty to just get the Taken King if you
already have Destiny, so eighty to get Destiny the two previous DLCs and the
Takens though, like in the forty dollars edition. No, okay, So
so that's that's why people were mad. It's it's uh right, it's not
just shade because it was I think it's shaders. It was there were some
some items you could equip that make you gay XP faster, which obviously for
new players is just gonna get them ramped up to the VACKS level or whatever.
The thing people are the maddest about was that there are new Bonus Day
emotes. Keep talking like this. This is like, I think the way
that Bungee and or act whoever the fuck has handled this has been they have
bungled it. Yeah, but there's also the part where people are flipping about
it out about fucking dance emotes. I'm with you on both counts. To
be fair, are winners in this fight? No they're not. Wow,
No, they're not. Uh. In all fairness, it's the first time
that new dances have been added to the game. There was there was any
take everything. It will be three dances, one per class, one per
class, so you will you know, unless you're playing multiple characters, you
will only benefit to one dance. Okay, I mean to the two to
one dance. Everybody everybody's had the default emotes that they've had since the game
shipped, So this is the first time that anybody has had the chance to
get new ones. But only if you pay the eighty dollars for the thing
which comes with like the bulk of the that stuff is stuff you already own.
So yeah, if you care about these dances, yes, forty dollars
difference between just the standard like upgrade. Yes, hers is buying this whole
new package, some shaders and dancements. So people were super mad about that
coming out of the three Yeah, and then this interview happened. What happened
in the interview, Luke Smith talked about some stuff. Yeah, in a
way that did not translate very well to text form. Okay, like you
know, if you was maybe a little flip, very more than a little
you know, that's kind of if you think about Yeah, if you think
about our discussion that we had with him during E three, like you were
the catalyst you started this kind of you know, like he's an easy going
guy, sure, or even going back to stuff he did on one up,
like he's he's he's very kind of boisterous and sarcastic, like super sarcastic.
Seat. I like, but that doesn't necessarily translate well when you transcribe
I got stuff. So I think his response to like, you know,
someone saying like, why are you charging this much for the Destiny emotes,
his response was something along I don't have the quote, but it's like,
so you're telling me you would pay separately for these dancing months, right,
And there was a different There was another instance yeah, which I'm sure in
the interview, like he may have he probably met it that way, because
you'd be insane, knowing the history of destiny and its reputation to be maybe
serious idea about I was not there for that interview. He could have been
ice cold about that shit. We don't know. The other quote, which
I think is more damning, was something along the lines of like, well,
yeah, if you saw it, if we had it right in front
of you here and you saw what we're offering, you would throw money at
the screen. So but that was like people who that was a question though,
wasn't like you saw here you would throw money at the screen. Maybe
like that was the read I got out. That's yeah, but that's the
line I've seen passed around more than anything else. As the uproar has increased
over the stuff, So the upshot this is where it gets really good.
It gets really good. So they they quickly quickly. This was this was
the damage control when when when confronted with this situation, the mind's behind destiny,
presumably people at Bungee and at Activision came together and said, we have
to solve this problem. We've got a we've got a real problem out here.
We've got a bunch of angry players that want this stuff. And the
solution is sell it. Tune for twenty dollars, where the fucking dances.
Those guys are pretty smart over there, good in between point. You know,
if you don't want to spend the forty I was thinking maybe like twenty
it is precisely the same. So it is precisely the same amount of money
then buying the eighty dollars collection. If you think of the game which had
recently, during that last sale, they reduced the cost of the full game
and both expansions to about forty bucks. Then the expansion is forty bucks,
and then there's this twenty dollars extra on top of the or it's it's eighty
total for the thing. So maybe that math doesn't actually yea, you are
you're saving twenty dollars, but only twenty dollars savings. But more to the
point, you're paying forty dollars for an expansion that they're claiming is like a
reasonable portion of the content in the original game. Like they're saying the Taking
is a lot of content at forty dollars. If it is not paying half
that four dances, if if at forty dollars, if the Taking King is
not at least two thirds the size of the base game, then that's fucked
up. I agree with you Ben the last expansions, I think feel like
the previous expansions have been a bad deal. What kind of mean is they've
been a questionable deal. That second one was like I played through those story
missions in one sitting over the course of about an hour and a half and
said, man fuck and ran that prison once and went man fuck, I
don't love thousand wolves is better than the one before it, But they're both
that twenty dollars, they're both kind of just barely there. So the thought
of like paying forty dollars for this thing that is going to reuse existing enemies
but give them new attacks and a new like shader on themselves elves like already
like coming out of the three play that stuff is like, no, man,
yeah, we'll see. I mean, the jury is definitely out on
the value of this thing. Like some of the stuff they're saying is at
least promising. But but again, forty dollars for big expansion, twenty dollars
for three dancing motes, No, why would they do that? God?
Why? I don't know. The mystery behind the dances is way more interesting
than true what they actually are, right, I mean obviously because I'm so
interested. Yeah, if you show what those days, if if if people
can say, like here's like that can't happen until it's actually been released.
You know, they can't show these dances ahead of release, turn them on,
turn them on it like midnight. Yeah, and then it'll be like
someone will make the animated gift of like these fucking three dances happening and then
go like that's twenty bucks. Ye okay, No, they probably have plenty
of business intelligence that says people will pay for these dances. Yeah, I
bet they do. I bet they'll do brisk business with it, because I
mean, there's a large number of people that are still playing Destiny for some
reason, so they're obviously fucking crazy. What he said, I haven't played
since forty three. I just want to state for the record, you played
at three. That was wedn't played that stuff, so you know that's it's
a little different. I don't think I'll play again until this comes out.
Yeah. I don't see why you would, pretty sure. So so okay,
even know where to go with this? Moving on? As if they
haven't carved up the Destiny experience into like fucked up business holes. So I
have to imagine on some level, like because if they're gonna do a retail
version of this collector's edition, they probably had to tell like retailers like,
hey, you're gonna get these bonus dances, and then they had and then
they had to say like, oh fuck, we have to give everyone the
bonus dances, and then they had to say like, Okay, what's the
way that we can fucking make sure that we don't piss off retailers but still
give people these bonus dances. And then someone said they wouldn't fuck it.
I guess that will fucking work. So then there's another layer of fucking bad
business. This is it's self would be something to roll your eyes at,
like they've been doing it for years. Yeah, you'd be like, oh,
dumb cosmetic shit, like that's stupid. But given the week that the
Destiny was already having for them to roll this news out, holy shit,
holy shit. There will be a quest or is it a quest line.
They're describing it as like a multipart multipart mission, something that you get from
buying cans of Red Bull. I think it's just one right, so he
doesn't need I think you buy one can and you get your code. I
think there would be xp bonuses that will be on a pergan can basis.
I don't know if I don't know if that also grants access to this mission.
I'm I'm guessing that both Red Bull and Destiny have been quickening pulses for
Yeah press. The press release the actually says pretty much says that the quote
from some fucking esports sky that's just like, well, could not take it
to the max. I know that guy with three x's Uh okay, rip
my shirt off. I mean whatever, Like I I went and bought fucking
Mountain Dew for what was it the Halo? Did Halo have codes? They
did do codes for Halo, But I don't know if it was Mountain Dew
at that point, or if that was off something else. Maybe I'm thinking
about Mass Fixed, might have been Deritos. I think I went and bought
bullshit soda I didn't want from Mass Effects. It was called there was called
the Duty Double XP that came out of Mountain Dew and Doritos. I believe
I've fallen into that trap when I was way into a game and it's it
feels horrible. I preferred buying Burger King, Combo and the Eils to get
full ass games, three of them. Yeah whatever, dude. I rolled
up to have drive through at six am the day those games came out and
just bought the games. I didn't buying food. I just bought the fucking
games. We wiled out of the hell. Yeah, now you can do
that. I also wanted the food. Though, So there's something about the
novelty of just being handed Xbox three sixty games through a drive through that was
really really something someone told me. Okay, were you guys under the impression
that those games were Xbox three sixty games? They work on both Okay,
I was under the impression they were Xbox three sixty discs. I remember playing
those games on my three sixty. I thought they had the packaging of the
three sixty, but they also work in a regular Xbox. Yeah, so
they were technically Xbox discs that worked on three sixties, right, Did they
not have achievements and stuff? They achievements? Yeah, okay, I just
remember being very confused with some kind of weird things for that one purpose.
And again, let's games well Pocketbye Gracers, Nick King and big Bump,
Big Bumping Burke on the cover. I think that was okay, it was
big Bumping, big bumping, Destiny bumping. I don't know. I drink
one can of Red Bull every six to eight months or so, so like,
on a personal level, that seems like a way I could I could
go through that process and get that quest. Sure, but fuck man like
on its own, like whatever, you know, kind of like, hey,
you know, Bia Soda get a bonus like games have done it before.
It's just more stupid video game marketing. It's part for the course.
But when you take it into context of every little bit of Destiny that has
has come to pass and the way they're framing their expansion and all that sort
of stuff, you're just like, fuck man, Like some dude in a
suit needs to be told to sit the fuck down. Yeah, he's just
like, look, we have a problem with content in our games, Like
we can't fucking carve out another chunk of it. Like we're already carving out
stuff for Sony, Like we're already you know, like, yeah, the
Xbox version of Destiny still doesn't have the exclusive content that launched with the game.
They'll get it at the one year anniversary. That was the deal,
was that it was a one year thing, right or it was out in
the fall. Yet there was some quote from them saying that they were going
to remix all of those exclusive strikes when they were made available. Why they
never got it in the first place, Like they haven't seen it. They'll
be able to play in the original configuration too, It'll be just you know,
so that means I guess that would come to PS four as well,
right, so you'd be able to play these updated versions of these strips,
probably considering that the strikes that we're Sony exclusive, we're not great, the
definitely not the best strikes. You know, they need to do stuff to
them. Yeah, that's true. So with that track record, how good
is that Red Bull Quest gonna be? It's just like it's gonna be the
fucking Guard the Urn Quests, but it'll be a giant spinning can of red
Bull That would actually be awesome if they went down like the fucking like Fantasy
Star hole of just fucking slot slotting, weird brands and stuff. For like
Metal Gear have fucking had iPods and Calorie Maids, but like in Japan,
it's like portable ops or something just straight up have bags of Doritos or something
that sounds about right. Yeah, it might have been yeah, yeah,
yeah, like poys. Yeah yeah, they had KFC and Crazy Taxis,
Damn damn offspring Destiny huh the whole game there. There are likable things about
Destiny. Unfortunately they keep like obfuscating and pushing those things further and further away
every time they open their mouth. It's like it's fucking mind blow. I'm
hopeful about the next expansion. They seem somewhat contrite. I've heard about their
design missteps, like four times to four already, Brad. Yeah, Like
it's one of those things where like I agree with you, but also playing
that one mission and seeing the same enemies kind of remixed as opposed to actual
new content. Yeah. I don't know, Brad, you got any more
news. I'm not ready to write that off just yet. We will see.
Have you heard about destiny? I too much? Too much? Have
I heard about destiny? Oh boy? What don't we want to talk about
here? Anything other than this? How do we really need a good blow
my nose? Okay, go for it? Why don't I? Why don't
I go do that real fast? What do you say? All right?
All right, I'll be right back. Your phone's ring, right, my
phone's ringing. I gotta take this, So dude, we're back as your
nose doing. It's fine for the next like, let's say, twenty to
thirty minutes before it then becomes I want forty five minutes more of podcast.
Then I can kind of breathe, man, allergies just now at owing or
you know, I've gotten really good at getting sick after we travel places this
year, right, Like it's happened every single time. I have not shaken
this three head cold. But this time he didn't get me sick. So
I thank you yea for that. Yeah, okay, just because of the
sheer amount of people in a condensed place. Yeah, you're just there's yeah,
yeah, it's just people bringing charlst from all over the world. Why
do you never hear that from like shirts and stuff like that? I never
hear I was about like you know, packs, flu and stuff, And
I think like trade shows, you're a specifically you're shaking tons of people's hands.
Yeah, it touch a lot of handle, touching a lot of controllers
that people used, Like you know, there's just a lot of vectors for
its diseases get transmitted a concerts too, but it's usually like in the parking
lot, right, yeah than different diseases anyway. Uh, you guys see
this business with the app store with one does the Apple app store app store
more like crap store? Am I field it? Just ye? I would
get it shut it down? Get me better than that. Google Play more
like Google go on? Uh? I thought of one, but it's really
bad. Yeah. Oh, because it's crappy. I get it, Google
Google cram. Oh yeah, okay, there you go. All right,
I'm feeling lucky. Type this in what happened read cray Uh Apple, excuse
me? Yeah? All these this week God, it's this weekend was a
fucking nightmare. You don't understand. Apple pulled one of their trademark kind of
abrupt unilateral policy moves on the App Store as pertains to games in the middle
of the the the political hubub around the Confederate flag last week, so this
pertains to you as well. It's like, wait, what what you try
to actually like a South Carolina play North Carolina? Shit, South Carolina where
they actually do fly the fucking Confederate flag over state buildings, which is insane.
I didn't see it. There was not a ton of You had to
go a little more backwoods than where I was from Toe to see a whole
lot of the stars and bars when I was growing up. Yeah, I've
seen it. I mean, it wasn't that far away, but I would
have had to go looking for it anyway. Uh. The the political conversation
around that thing is quite different from the it's in some games conversation I think.
Yeah, that's what seemed to you know, like a lot of people
were actually like people who would have the one conversation were actually kind of upset
from what I could tell about the the app store stuff. Yeah, well
I should probably say what they actually Yeah, okay, yeah, well they
yanked any game containing the Confederate flag off the app store, like just just
in One Fell Swoop without yeah, without even from my understanding, without even
notifying the developers. So even like historical style games not you know, they're
not like glorifying specifically. I think that was generally the context it was appearing
generally. Yeah, I got it. They had a Gettysburg game I remember,
was one of the first ones. Yeah, but it's yeah, it's
like I mean, think about the number of World War two flags that have
like swastikas in the or something like that. Although I feel don't they actually
kind of go with like the iron cross a lot in in games like I
feel like they actually avoid sometimes yes, go, well, so if you
have a swastika in your game, you can't sell it in Germany. Yes,
uh so in a lot of cases they'll just go cross version, like
wouldn't matter where they're selling the game. Just get away from the swastka,
right, but not always. But you know, obviously, like the flag
showing up any purely historical context is is a different thing from like making a
statement of values with its redneck rampage a historical game. Yes, yeah,
it was. That all happened after h No, But you know, I
think the real point here, the thing to highlight is that it's just kind
of another in the string of Apple making like ridiculous like basically having a pridiculous
double standard as pertains to games on their service versus everything else. Right,
And they'll you know, I think they've actually gotten so far out there and
say like, hey, if you want to make statements about things, then
you should write a book or record an album. Yeah. You know they
previously view games, yes, as as something that like adults can handle.
Uh, you know they've they've previously gone after games with sexual content, yeah,
on the app store and stuff like that. Have they stought them out
specifically, because they certainly didn't do that in this situation, right, they're
just like blanket like anything with the Confederate flag. I don't I don't really
remember hearing about there's been a few cases of specific games being targeted, if
that's what you mean. But but I think like again they will please had
a sequence in it where you were doing like a full body there was you
know, it was technically kind of nudity but not really, and that got
triggered. I mean, it's like it's kind of one off case, but
you know, like generally speaking, it seems like Apple doesn't give a fuck.
That's that's another good example of them, of them painting with a pretty
broad brush on the stuff. And it's like it's such a it's such a
massive, sprawling platform that goes out to so many people at this point that
it's a shame that they don't seem to give a shit. And it's like,
you know whatever, they got up their last keynote and talked about metal
and how it's going to make games better, they'll be able to be faster
and you know, and like all that stuff, and then it's like then
when it comes time to actually like looking at the content in those games and
saying like, hey, can can games say anything more than let's fuck shoot
up Dog? Right? I think the Apple answer is like no, let's
crush them Candy Dog, Oh yeah, crush that fucking candy brouh sticks and
brs. I used to blame this on Steve Jobs, but he's been gone
so long that I can't. I guess it can't be purely his fault anymore,
but his philosophies have persistent. Well no, but I mean what I
was gonna say is that, like they did this dance for years, Like
remember when they trotted John Carmack out on stage for Doom three. Yeah,
like almost fifteen years ago the quake the Quake three test debuted on Mac.
Yeah, totally, Like they have gone through this song and dance over and
over for at least the last fifteen years of acting like they give a shit
about games and then never falling through with it ever. Yeah, but now
that they're making an insane amount of money off this stuff on the app Store,
you would hope they would their policies. We I mean, they have
people in place that are like app approval teams and like, if you hear,
are the people you have to woo to get featured on the App Store
with your game. Here's the game of the week, and this like they're
changing the way that they curate the app Store to be more focused on like
quality or they had that list while back they're like, here are games you
that with no DLC or here like it was a list of a here games
you pay to play, You pay once, and then you're done. Like
they're they're doing so many different things around how they surface games on the app
Store. They're like, there are people at levels of Apple that are incredibly
focused on games. Their entire job is around games on Apple devices, but
at like some higher level, like when it comes to this stuff, like
they just don't give a fuck and they don't have to. It's just like,
you know, they have the install base, they're like whatever, games
all come to them and they'll make their money. You're like, like you
hear about them flirting with controllers for years now. I've been people like,
oh, yeah, I saw I saw the prototype right Apple controller. Right,
I saw the controller they're working on. It's going to change everything.
It's never gonna come out because Apple doesn't give a fuck, and they'll prototype
shit and then someone will walk in and go like, no, we're gonna
go watch uh instead of this stupid thing that you're making. This is trash.
Fuck you, And then the controller goes away, I guess for another
year or whatever it's or maybe they're just iterating on the contro or forever and
it'll actually come out and yay, But yeah, it's it's weird. They
just they don't care. That seems like it's one of those things where it's
just like it's so tone deaf. Yeah, totally just to go like,
well take them all out, or it's just it's something that like it seems
like they don't care to the extent that they would rather avoid any whiff of
bad press exactly. Yeah, and actually like fucking wipe it out. We
don't care enough about it to actually work with these people to find a common
ground or establish new parameters for games on this store. It's just like,
yeah, fucking Yanka Mook cares. Yep, but that sucks. They'll edit
it out. It sucks. It keeps happening, and Apple definitely does what
Apple wants, So who knows if it'll get better. It would be nice.
Maybe Apple really likes the Confederate flag and they don't like seeing it.
Sully, I'm just gonna pick it out there. I didn't want to say
anything. They don't like it. When the North Winds. What you're saying,
Andy Q's out there watching Dukes of Hazard repeats. They're belly aching about
the War of Northern Aggression. Do you think that they stopped playing Dukes of
Hazard reruns in our lobby? Oh? Oh god, they Yeah, that's
right. Just wait, oh really still I haven't seen it in a few
months. But yeah, we have a giant screen in the lobby that plays
all kinds of random sometimes up there. Sometimes it's been Twin Peaks at random.
Yeah, sometimes it's Letterman. Sometimes it's uh, I've seen Original Star
Trek on there. Yeah, but yes, it was. There was a
lot of Dukes of Hazzard for a little while there, Yeah, and I
guess they have not taken them. But but to the point, you know,
a lot of people were pointing out that there's a bunch of stuff on
like the iTunes store. You know, there are movies there, there's music.
Yeah, I'm sure you can find some music that is very in favor
of that flat right, that is like politically like yeah, man, this
flag rips and you know plenty of movies that have the imagery of that nature.
Yeah, and they just they've just got a huge double standard between games
and all their forms of media and their service. Yeah, it is an
It is a non nuanced, relatively uncultured stance on video games. Why don't
they like rednecks? I don't understand. Yeah, that's that's what they said
in the meeting. Yeah, all right, I guess this will be our
last story. Let's see what you got. Oh wait, no, there's
another story. There's another very important story after it's OK, but we'll get
to that. Noelan North was at a conference. Talk most your cells while
I scanned the story to try to remember where he was. Metro Con.
Yeah, he did a Q and A at metro Con. You're Metro twenty
thirty three, fantast you're asking you're asking questions that. Yeah, Noel North
is a huge Metro twenty three three. Every year. I've heard some stories.
Uh hey, it's an anime convention. Oh yeah, in Florida,
and Dan goes every year. Yeah, yeah, that makes sense. Uh.
Noel North gave this Q and A at metro Con and spoke pretty candidly
about Uncharted four. Okay, and also the new Star Wars game that Amy
Hinnig is doing. But I will just read you the fairly lengthy quote about
Charted For first, somebody asked him about like because you remember, you know,
the story got out a while back, like when she left Naughty Dog
and some other people left with her, and then a voice actor got out
there saying like yeah, they like I'm not in the game anymore and stuff
like that, Like there was a bunch of stuff around what was happening with
that game during that departure. Here's what Milla North said. We had shot
eight months of her story and it was all thrown away. The last of
us guys came in, and you have to understand new producers, new people,
they want to do it. I don't know what happened exactly. Amy
is still a very dear friend of mine and she's brilliant, But the last
of us guys were the next team there, so they took over and they
just wanted their own flavor. They got rid of some of the other people
that were involved and just redid their thing. I mean that happens a lot
in movie. Yeah, sure, totally, Like that's not insanely out of
the ordinary, for you know, the new head creative people come in.
Yeah, that's that's a lot of work. But I mean you know,
like the kind of the the best developers are very forthcoming about the facts that
they are willing to flush a bunch of work, you know, if they're
not happy with it or whatever. Although in this case, who knows if
it was they weren't happy with This sounds like changing of the guard for you
know that they're gonna want to execute on their vision for the game, right,
which is weird. I mean like she worked on all of the previous
charges yes, totally pretty successful games. Kind of kind of her series to
some extent, I guess, yeah, but a lot of people associated it
with her, I should say. Yeah. At the same time, Uh,
if they really have to make a fourth Uncharted game, I'm kind of
excited about, like, notwithstanding whatever went on with her leaving the company and
you know, yeah, yeah, that work being gone, Like, I'm
kind of excited about the idea of their working on something that is not a
fucking yes, fourth uncharged. I would rather have. It's kind of the
same thing with like Kojima and Metal Gear. You know, it's like I
would rather have the person who's done the thing forever go do something original,
and I would rather have if there's gonna be more of the thing. Have
somebody come in and do, like, like offer a new take on it,
you know, interesting, So why are you making that face you want
someone other metal Gear? No, I think metal Gears should stop entirely.
I'm saying, oh, if there has to be more of the thing,
So you're saying that, only do more metal Gear if it was kaJama,
No, I'm opposite. No, Like, just like I'm saying with Uncharted,
metal Gear Rising is one of the best. Yeah, metal Gear games,
like Metal Gear Rising is is a great example of like a somebody else's
creative take on this bizarre universe that he made. I think we differ on
this point. Metal Rising is all right, I think you're subscribing a little
too closely to the one person's vision that to be To be fair, like,
nobody has advanced the otour theory of video games more than Coinma. Yeah.
Yeah, but the idea that like all creativity flows from this one mind.
But of course he would do well, yeah, he's great. There's
that Zelda moon man guy that collaps with it seem pretty cool. Yeah.
Yeah. Anyway, in this case, like, yeah, you know,
if there's going to be more Uncharted I'm happy that somebody else's is maybe taking
it in a slightly different direction. Hey, it worked great for that Vita
game that Bend did. Who knows how much creative freedom they even had or
whatever, but yeah, you know, so he's kind of confirming all the
stuff that was rumored last year or whatever that was. Do you think she
had like an emotional mistake in it? It's like, I really want to
wrap this up, like I don't know the culmination of what this blockbuster storyline
that I've been working on. Well, that's the weird thing about a chart
at four, because three felt very much like the end of that franchise,
like they put a tidy little bow on the characters at the end of that.
However, interesting you bring that up because Noel North also spoke a little
bit about what she's doing with Visceral Adia now, because you know, we
knew that she was working on a Star Wars game there. He says,
Amy is still a very dear friend of mine. She's brilliant. She's gone
to EA and is going to reboot a brand new Star Wars franchise in the
style of Uncharted, and I happen to know a lot about it. And
it's gonna be awesome. So could he be going off of like, well,
I guess she was never in all the thirteen thirteen No, And I
mean I think they came out and said she's not just working on thirteen thirteen,
but I mean looked like Uncharted like Wars. Would EA want to work
on a real engine like three game or would they want to work in frost
Bite. I'm sure that rolls. This will risk roll. Yeah, it's
it doesn't make sense for thirteen thirteen to be alive, like right, right,
Things about that game weren't unique, you know, it was a cool
looking Star Wars game, which was unique at the time. But like,
if you're gonna say, like, hey, you guys that just came off
of making a bunch of like third person action adventure games, why don't you
make one that Star Wars like, You don't go pull in like this other
like other teams work and start from there, you start from scratch. It
seems like they wanted to make a game like that though, because thirteen thirteen
and the people that saw that resided it looked kind of it was as it
was. It was a cover shooter like Uncharted is, you know, it's
it's yeah. But plus like that's the angle Disney's taken with all the Star
Wars stuff since they took over. You know, it's they're they're very much
like forget those prequels you hated, Remember the thing you liked when you were
kids, like the swashbuckling fun you know serious, that's that's one uncharted and
that is uncharted. Yea, it swashes it buckled, Yes, totally.
So the idea that she's making something similar like that in the Star Wars universe
not hard to believe at all. So Force on Lash three Nolan North is
Han solo in ye yes, that could work. Sure, I'd accept that.
Who knows when we'll find out what that is to your next three?
Next three? Yeah, you're probably aren't made me in the next Star Wars
celebration. Yeah yeah, something like that. Uh. Lastly, most important
news of the week Drive Club PlayStation plus stititions out. Wait no, they
took it down. No, it's back up. They put it back.
Yes, it came out, it came down, and then it went back
up. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know how long it was
down for. What the fuck happened there? I think they said something about
capacity, the same thing they said original, like, hey, we underestimated
it. And I think they did some kind of stage roll out where certain
territories were getting it at different times to kind of ease the low load.
I could see that, you know, Sony can finally close this or theoretically
so it was this dark chapter in their history and it under the rugs to
move on. Just you know, I'd say they gave it the appropriate amount
of fanfare. They announced it in a very a very matter of fact way.
Yeah, I'm just put it out and moved on. I'm surprised they
went into E three without having it done that. The timing of the release
makes me think that this was originally supposed to have happened ahead of E three
to get it off the books. I would totally believe that. I was
always kind of holding out hope that it was going to be like retooled for
Morpheus or something like that. I got pulled and it's like, fucking all
right, we're starting with you know, from scratch, scratched. But just
like there as many problems as they had getting the game work at all.
Yeah, Like it's at some point like that name is associated with some dark
stuff that don't just fulfill your obligation and then just get it. Get it
out of the way, so you can like announce Grant Tourisma seven with clear
conscience. I guess Granturisma Sport Drive Club Drive Club. It's out now,
wayable. I don't know. If you have PlayStation Plus, you can play
for free a chunk of it. It's it's not actually the single player progression
in full Yeah, it's what is. It's like one location you can get
a Platinum trophy out of it, which seemed to be the sticking point for
a lot of people. With this free version of the game. You can
get platinum, so like even when it launched on disc, it was like
it had a separate trophies set of trophies associated with its, like single player
progression that were exclusive to the full paid version of the game. It is
like DLCO. They'll break out raphy into packs like it came with a pack.
That's fucking crazy. But they will happily upsell you on the full version
of the game if you get this thing they've they've been selling to like for
PlayStation Plus members, I think you've been able to buy that primate, like
that that core version of it for like twenty five bucks forever weird, weird.
I would not recommend it. Our long national nightmare is over. Finally
you can play drive club emails. Yeah, okastagiantball dot com. Let's read
a few emails and then I don't know if you can blow your nose again.
Yeah, it's gonna be great. Mark from Washington wants to know,
Jeff, which was worse. I just watched the hot pepper gaming segment that
you did. What was worse? The hot pepper or the yellow Russian?
Did the pepper make you feel sick like the nacho cheese? Also? Do
you know what type of pepper it was? Thanks for all you do.
It was a hob hob an arrow narrow, which it was not, you
know, not the hottest pepper. But I don't eat some spicy food,
so habanero is pretty. It was hot enough, like not pleasant hot.
Yeah you just eat The yellow Russian was like unpleasant but not like like whatever.
I guess you pain. I could drink ten of those. You didn't
feel ill? No, some people seem to be feeling weird. I didn't
feel great afterwards, but you know whatever, But yeah, I would I
would rather drink ten of those than really than I'm not going to But like
I'm saying, like put me to a choice, Like that's you adn't feeling
pretty confident because you had done this before. So yeah, I did untested
and tested twenty four hours stream the October Cat a couple of years ago.
I ate with this exact type of pepper. Was there, what was the
like, what was the angle? There? Was it late at night and
it's like, all right, let's use this to wake ourselves up. I
think that's what they were doing it. And then I was there in the
morning and I said, like, art right, okay, and yeah,
so so I did that with the kind of funny crew Greg Miller and such
and Vernon from Hopefy Game and yeah. So the thing I forgot from the
last time I did it is that as soon as I put that thing in
my mouth, my throat complately closed up. It was like nope, it
was just like it wanted no part of this. It was just like reject,
no abort, no stop. So I could not swallow. Yeah,
so I had to sit there and chew that thing up for a very long
time and continue to talk and and like I didn't start talking at that point.
It's kind of like had to at least start to get going. And
then I realized, like it like I had this feeling like this is a
lot of dead air. I should probably start talking, and you know kind
of went from there. But yeah, so I kind of had to break
it down into such tiny chunks that it could even fit through my closed throat
full, which is which means it's spending even oh god. And uh yeah,
once I started getting it down, like it kind of you know,
relaxed a little bit and I was able to swallow it, and you know,
I drank like five cups of milk. Took some time. Oh they
give you stuff there, Okay, they're not reasonable. Lets you ease the
pain. So yeah, when I walked away from that set, I was
fine. Like I would burp occasionally and that would be unpleasant, but that
was the last of it. That was kind of funny. I was just
I just happened to be walking by at that exact moment, and yeah,
I started filming it on my phone. Was yeah, yeah, I just
did one with the shoe he yashida. I saw that being Yeah, is
it always op neuro I wonder then they go hotter. I think they themselves
go way ghost peppers and stuff like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I feel like, uh, I feel like every second, third month,
there's a new hottest pepper in the world, seems like it. Like I
feel like there's always somebody on YouTube saying like this is actually the hottest pepper
in the world, and then they eat it and they have the rating,
like how many like scovels. Scovels is the actual is the actual stuff that
is the hot? But scovill is the is the scale? U Yep,
it's the guy named that for him. That's because he's so hot. Uh
yeah, Boots, Julia, what is the last pepper I heard as the
hottest pepper in the world. Yeah, I don't know if that's actually still
true or not. Somebody out there's got to be like eating hotter and hotter
peppers, right, Oh sure, yeah. Let's just get some pure capsis
some crystals in here, smoke them? What smoking if you got him?
Yea? All right? Uh, let's move on to another email. What
do you say? Bobby from Brooklyn sent an email, Hello, Horizon,
sounds awesome. I love the gorilla is trying something completely new, and they
struck gold with their buzzword post post apocalyptic. But someday that setting will be
as used and abused as World War Two? So how long before we see
the first post post post apocalyptic game? And what will it'll look like?
You go back to World War two, that'll be that'll be the one that
has like it'll be civilized. Okay, it'll be. So what wait,
what are we saying? Post post apocalyptic is like kind of a like a
rag tag yeah, like stuff kind of getting back together. It's still a
little tribal, okay, but you know, like a government maybe have some
sort Yeah, it's starting to happen, but not everybody is abiding by that
government. Still rowdy here. As you go past that, then it's a
party. Yeah, it's still the fucking the matrix, the outside of the
matrix, gotcha, scrappy? Yeah? All right, So post post post
apocalyptic is basically pre apocalyptic. It's right. It is the rise of it
is. It is just new medieval, got it? Okay, it's a
good anthology. Is magic. It's a good serious answer. It's more than
expected, all right. Brent sends an email about Sony's first party. Sony's
first party line up on PS four has been horrendous. But you guys have
to remember that most people have one console and no beefy gaming PC. For
the middle ground game players to buy three six games a year. Games that
are PS four and PC might as well be PS four exclusive, while APS
four slash PC third party game might not count much in Sony's favor when having
a message board list war it has swayed friends of mine when deciding between consoles.
Sure, yeah, I mean you should look at the games available on
a console before you buy a console, totally, absolutely, Yeah, sure,
but you know, I mean that's obviously a fair point that you know,
if you only want or can only have a console. It's also how
many games are PS four and PC exclusive? One Street Fighter? Yeah?
They small handful. I mean, I don't know for for for me at
least, when I complain about Sony not having any good exclusive games, it's
like I'm sitting here looking at them with this massive tail wind that they have,
you know, like this huge head start. Yeah, like this massive
installed base that they building, like not doing anything. They don't have good
first party games. It's it's it's less about the quality of those individual games
and more about kind of their place in these sales pantheon, right of just
like they're not, like I charted it is not the same as some of
those Microsoft games, right in terms of sales, Like you know, God
of Wars not has not done it. They're either So it's has nothing to
do with the quality of those games, or maybe it does because if they
were better games, maybe they would sell more or whatever it is. But
you know, like in the PS three era, games were not one to
one, they did not match up. Sure, but yeah, that's just
you know, they have an opportunity to do some pretty cool stuff. I
like Good Bourne is a good example of them actually doing something super cool.
Yeah, yeah, I just want a lot more of that. But it's
like you here leading console platforms, you see these different stories about like you
know, various third party games that those like we're trying to treat this like
a first party games, Like yeah, because you don't have any fucking first
party games to treat like first party games, right, yeah, yeah,
silly agreed. Ah man, I pulled a good email that PlayStation view and
I don't think I can read it though, Okay, uh yeah, well
you pretty much covered everything did we talk about how it stutters for me?
Although freaking time really Yeah, like every few minutes. It's like a half
second stutter, which is tolerable watching live stuff for watching DVR watching live stuff.
Yeah, and I know you weren't having an issue with the DVR stuff.
Yeah. And I tried to watch some live stuff since and I haven't
really had any issues there. It was a near constant thing, like any
day that I would watch it, it would just yeah, it would stutter
for just a second, but then after a while it would catch up,
so we'd like jump forward like two three seconds, which was really off putting,
But it was like any channel that I'd try. And I don't know
that's a shape. There were some performance issues with boots still still only available
a handful of areas. Maybe they're treating it like a beta, but I
yeah, I don't know. I have not had those issues. Sorry,
Kid from Santa Rosa, your email got cannibalized earlier in the show. Uh,
Justin from Saratoga Springs, New York, Dan, this is another another
question about first party stuff ish well kind of exclusive games. Let's say,
No Man Sky seems like exactly what I want from game and hearing all of
your perceptions and hopes have just has just solidified that problem is I am an
Xbox gamer. I don't have an issue with PlayStation. I just can't see
having I can't see having two consoles, much less selling my wife the idea.
Do you think this game will ever be released on Xbox? I don't
know what the nature of the deal is. I think so, but I
don't actually, if I had to pick, I would agree with you and
say yeah, eventually, but who knows what the gap will be. I
mean, they did announce it was coming to PC. It's got a Steam
page up now, yea. But eventually the weird stuff with Joe Danger where
that started as a originally it was like Sony turned it down, Like was
the case where like their notes were like what if it was a monkey?
I don't remember that. That was where there was we were talking to EA
ever some publisher. I forget what the situation was. But what if it
was a monkey? I mean, so they had they added I would have
some what if it was? Was that just like an inside joke? I
think they were just like a fuck you, that's pretty good. I don't
actually know, No, I think it was PlayStation exclusive and then they did
special edition on three six. Well that's to get around, I mean,
like the requirements of the platform holders require, like you you know, you
can't come out later with the same games. They had to do the special
edition Stuffy and the two came out on both. That's the movie. Yeah,
I think that's right. I think they came out on both. So
every Man Sky come into one. Yeah, yeah, but I haven't heard
one way or the other, but I would assume that that thing would come
to the Xbox One eventually. Yeah, yeah, especially with you know,
it coming to Steam as well, So it's not But also like Sony has
made at such a cornerstone, and you know, like that is one of
the things where they've been quoted as saying they're going to treat it like a
first party game, like some some retail box art got out there that seems
to imply that maybe Sony would be publishing a retail version of the game.
Interesting, So at some point does it did it fall under the same umbrella
that Street Fight or five did where it's you know, not gonna actually come
back where they helped out enough, and yeah, like it has that it
just hasn't been clear to like how like what the business is behind that stuff,
So I don't know. Yeah, obviously, you know, the more
like marketing money that Sony dumps into with the logger. It will be if
you if you went back and watch the press conference, they were pretty decent
at saying like this is first PlayStation or this is exclusive to PlayStation. But
I think there's some of those segments here so about this game, so maybe
we just need to like go back and watch the intros to those segments to
try to piece it together from there. But I don't actually know. I
would expect it to eventually will come there, but I would expect that of
everything, though, I mean it's like hard to you know, it's like,
yeah, you know, even even stuff like look at it last generation,
like Limbo took like two or three years to come to PlayStation, but
it finally got there. But it seems like a lot of the language around
Rise of the tomb Rat has changed too, how so like recently, Yeah,
really like I feel less certain about that coming to PS four. Like
I would assume post Street Fight or five, they'd be like, shit,
lock it down interesting or something, But I don't know. Yeah, maybe
I don't know, it's it's It's. The hard thing about a lot of
this language is that you know, the business is ongoing, like they're going
to keep having conversations about where they want to bring it and where they don't
want to bring it, and and all that sort of stuff. So games
that could be exclusive one way could get locked up a different way six months
later, And you know, you kind of have to wait for a to
ship and wait for that business to actually be done before you can kind of
go like, Okay, what really happened here? Yes, what happened?
That one seems so big though, that Hello Games would probably want it out
everywhere they could get it. Absolutely. It seems like Sony would have to
come with a pretty appealing offer. I would say, yeah, stop you
from putting that out all over the place. Yeah, but Hello Games is
also like a you know, it's smallish team, Like you know Sony had
the money for it. Then you know the response they've been getting from this
game. You could see them saying like, Hey, we want to spend
a lot of money on this thing and keep it to ourselves. But I
have no idea. I have no idea what the game is about. So
you go to space. Oh you were here last week. I played it.
There's space cops. Oh yeah, I guess that I have played the
game. Yeah, I was gonna stick around and go to that with you.
God damn it, yeah you shoot. Do you know what it's about?
Now? Yeah? I have like a I have like the broadest idea
of what the kind of framework is in the progression, but a lot left
to learn. Hobby grade. Hobby grade. Yes, that's a call back
that I'm not remembering. I'm using Brandy. That's that's the battle born pitch.
Is it just a hobby grade hero shooter or whatever? The tweets that
like eighteen genres, what do you remember? This hobby grade vaguely starting to
come back. It's like it seemed like it was their way to say like
basically they were It felt like they were going out of their way to not
say the word moba what, but like and wanted to say that it was
like a well made thing. So it was hobby grade, okay, because
that's a grade used for models and stuff like that a lot like kids,
such, it's not for kids is to throw together, it's hobby grade.
This I got the tweet this is one tweet from Randy Pitchford. Battle Born
is FPS, hobby grade co op campaign, genre, blended, multimode,
competitive esports, meta growth, choice plus epic. Yes, I do remember
that. Now, how did he fit all that into one one tweet?
That is the most he's When I played it, it was a four player
co op shooter that seemed kind of boring the first draft of that tweet.
I don't I don't know enough of what that means to say yes or no.
Maybe has meta growth? Oh well, yeah, all right man?
Uh sorry, Mike from Philadelphia. We already talked about three sixty saves on
Xbox one. Uh sorry, Corey from Raleigh, North Carolina, we already
talked about nobody finishing the Witcher three yet, really just chewing up all these
emails as we go, We're predicting. Yeah, we'll be asking about it
and addressing it. It's true. Yeah, all right. Ross has a
very simple question, Yo, what's Jiantball's game of E three? I'm not
sure that we will commit to a single game as website, but yeah,
we fucking wales stream Fighter five? Everybody? All right? Is that yours?
Yeah? Everybody? I mean it kind of has to be everybody tell
me your favorite for me three Oculus Touch Toy Box, Yeah, Horizon,
Yeah, yeah, I might. I might go with Horizon three Yeah,
Mario Mario Maker definitely up there. I pulled this email. I should have
thought harder about my answer. Uh, what's everyone's thoughts on Cuphead? Real
quick looks great, looks. I played part the part where it's like mostly
boss fights kind of off putting to me, kind of Man, it's pretty,
it's pretty hard, but it feels good. It controls really well,
it's good, super tight controls. Yeah, it needs to Yeah, absolutely,
gosh, I don't know. Yeah, Horizon is definitely up there to
two Reborn Beta about that, okay, yeah, I came out to have
you played any of it yet? Yes, I know. I fixed my
PC and I downloaded the Beata yesterday and it's crash. He's fuck great,
crashing desk off like four times in the course of getting into and out of
one match. So, like, what do you have to buy out of
the store in a DODA match to unlock half five three? Every hat,
the the apply versa set. I'm at the end game store. I was
figured, you know, I just get like nine b kbs yeah, oh
right, yeah, okay, but activate them all at the same time.
Yeah. You can only hold six at once, though, so that's a
problem. Is there a crowbar in Doda? Like I said, is there
an item that's enough that's crowbar like enough they could skin hat somewhere? Uh,
trying to think who would be half life ready? I don't know,
give juggered out a crow bar, swords or something. I don't know.
They're very big on maintaining their fiction, sure. I mean like items that
break the like the you know, break the universe or whatever, have been
very unpopular with people. Yeah, don't funk with that. I feel like
I need to give you, give you guys a topic so I can go
blow by nose again. It's really unpleasant. Uh. Somebody mentioned BKB.
I'm hungry for burger king burger talk about yourselves, will be right back.
I chicken fries no, no, no, yeah, those over those.
I've been switched on to nuggets because you can get ten nuggets for like a
dollar forty nine. That's a good deal. Yeah, that's really good deal.
That's cheaper than they were doing that. McDonald's was doing the twenty for
five. Yeah, but I think the chicken McNugget is maybe a better chicken
cell. I'd probably prefer it. I don't know. I was getting a
much bigger like taste of oil from their nuggets. I went to Burger King
over the weekend. I don't really eat a lot of fast food anymore,
barely any I mean, like the last time was actually not that long ago.
I guess it was that Trips del Taco. Yeah, you've been like
bringing in food and stuff. Yeah, Jeff, I think you're losing weight,
you know, I don't know, it's you look pretty good. So
the scary part, uh, thank well, thank you. But the scary
part is that I had Burger King over the weekend and kind of hated it.
Yeah yeah, yeah if you yeah, get off that fast food kick
for for a little while. Yeah. It was just like this is not
this doesn't taste that great. The qual the quality of this is the burger
is kind of spongey in a way that I'm not okay with, Like this
is not a great meal, to be fair. But no, no,
see, I just did the thing. I just got back from Kansas City,
which means that every single night I think I've ever spent in Kansas City
as an adult at the bars with my dad has ended with us getting a
cab or a driver to take us through a taco bell and I get to
do this fun thing every time where my dad always like, I just quit
being weird about food. Just say four things, any four things on the
menu Italy be fine. But I have specific things I want and I just
keep naming things that I went over and over until he says stop because he's
always paying for it and drawing, shut up, here's money. And so
I'll just name like twelve things and he'll be drunk and then he realized that
what I'm doing. But I'll get those twelve things. Nice to wait,
like forty dollars for the taco bell for like two people. Yeah, that's
that's clean living. Yeah. Yeah. So that happened both nights that I
was in Kansas City and also the weekend. On Friday night, I acquired
my lady friend picked up, at my request, picked up a bottle of
Slur A Cane is one of it is one of the forties beverages. He
is also in the wine business, and I proceeded to drink that entire bottle
on Friday night. But it's at tone for the rest of the weekend in
terms of just like, yeah, I guess I could get a burger now
it's all gone to ship. I mean, yeah, slippery slop. What's
the liquid? That red color like I thought it was the color of the
bottle was the second one. Wow, And it's like, holy shit,
that was just a super red Liquor's good. It'll make your tongue red.
It's strong enough to start an engine. Maang. So it's like a hurricane,
but just like highly it's a red rummy kind of but this is like
a you know, pre mixed like malt, almost like a malt version.
It tasted like a sane eyed special brew sort of sure if you remember that,
like kind of a fruity malt liquor sort of vibe, not unlike a
wine cooler, not unlike a four loco, but not quite as it's eighteen
percent, So it was it was up there. It's up there. You
know, you could do a lot better if if that's the number you want
to be higher, but more than just yeah, yeah, yeah, I
drank that entire bottle. I mean, I drank the entire bottle. I
wouldn't call it. You shared it, right, I drink the entire bottle.
I drank the entire bottle. You drink the entire bottle me and one
night. Yeah, Jesus good. My girlfriend is smart enough to not want
any part of that. No one, no one else consumed even one drop
of that slurcade. Hey, brand's back. That's what you're saying. Hello,
I'm trying to think if she even had a sip of it, and
I don't think so that is indeed smart. Uh, I would say,
Yeah, so I put that, I put all that inside me and lifts
tell the tale. Yeah, and here I am. I'm gonna be at
a lake in Minnesota this weekend. That's gonna be a lot of but light
going on. Are you going to handsons Les? It's every year? Yeah,
I know, God damn it, I miss it there m for it's
a good weekend to be by a lake. Oh right, it is July
fourth. Yes, I should probably do some fire workshop near lakes here in
the middle of the city. Yeah, I mean, fireworks are legal up
near me, but it's not the ones you want. Oh, it's not
the actual ones to blow up. Ye's just like I don't know. Here's
some sparks the ideal places something we're blue. Yeah, the ideal place is
a huge lake or something where everyone's got lake houses on it. Because then
like everyone's doing everyone goes to the lake for July fourth. Yeah, everyone's
buying four hundred dollars worth of fireworks and so like you're setting your own shit
off, and then like the lot next to it and a lot next to
that, there's just fireworks going off all around a lake. The reflection looks
cool like that. That is how you do sounds off every year. Yeah,
that sounds really great. Yeah, should go with you. It's fun.
Do it. You still have time. I do hitchhike into suitcase.
Speaking of fireworks, Oakland has been celebrating uh for the July for a couple
of weeks. No, yeah, yeah, yeah, so you get kind
of accustomed. Yeah, Like seriously, we have a like a baseball park
right by our place, and there were some real fireworks that they went off
there, like seriously, like one hundred feet up in the air and they're
actually exploding it. It's like, you can't buy that out of the store.
I don't think you can. You just got to go to the right
store. And that store is in Nevada, right, it's not in California.
Yeah, exactly. But no, so I've got kind of accustomed to
big bangs. I guess like as of late, Apparently there were some big
bangs that were not fireworks. There was from a car huh. Possibly,
but no, I guess not. I went outside and the scary guard came
out to me. He's like, do you hear all that? And I'm
like, what what the fireworks? And he's like, no, the gun
shot. Somebody shot up some car, like right outside of my house.
I don't I don't know if anybody got hit or what. But yeah,
there were police officers and scary shit. Oakland. What's up? That was
the first encounter. Have you been to a side show yet? A side
show? Yeah? No, I don't think so. People turn in tight
ones? No, in the middle of intersections, Nope, A tight one?
Is that a U turn sick ass? Donuts man spinning Brodie's spinning Brodies?
I no, No, I've never been invited. I always drove according
to traffic laws. There were no brodis. There's great donuts, some great
slash scary depending on your perspective. Videos of on YouTube of people at sideshows
in Oakland, just fucking spinning donuts in an intersection, like cars kind of
blocking off all the directions, so like there's no you know, they're kind
of blocking off a full intersection. I've seen that. Yeah, just spinning
donuts and fucking shooting a pistol in the air. Okay, And you're just
like, all right, man, that looks fucking awesome. Yeah, Like
also that's super not safe and it's likely jeez, that is That was the
first set of gunshots that I've heard while I've been in Oaklans. Yeah,
that's I guess that's saying something I've been do not And you know, it's
fourth of July. This is one of those holidays where people do extra fucking
dumb shit, and like, look, I'm not gonna tell you how to
fucking live your life. Don't fucking shoot guns in the air. Yeah,
Jesus, come on, you have to go somewhere. Yeah, if you
have to shoot guns on the fourth of July, which hey, I get
it, we've all been there, fucking shoot him into the ground, shoot
him. It still makes the exact same noise. There's no benefit to you
shooting a pistol in the air. No, there's no there's no benefit.
I'm waiting there, there's no. No, there's definitely not. There's there's
a super noo benefit. It's you know you do that, there is a
benefit to that. Also, no one should ever do. Is that did
this for years where you would buy hundreds of dollars worth of fireworks, get
a bunch of friends to chip in or whatever. You get a big gass
box of them, yep, and then you douse it all in gasoline it
light or fluid, and everyone gets a Roman candle and you all shoot and
you try to see which one can land it in and blow up the whole
box. And I remember one year we got a couple of the shots in
there, but it didn't set on fire or whatever. So I had to
run up and I had actually light a thing and throw it in there,
and like ran away as this thing is exploding behind me, and all the
bottle rockets were loosing there, so they're shooting every direction totally. It's almost
like a mushroom cloud of flame going real good. Oh my god, it
was great. That's that's a real fun thing. We modified don't do.
Don't don't do this. One year, my Dad and I modified a firework
by adding a lot of gunpowder to it. Wow, it was one of
those like big cylinders that's like supposed to emit sparks and just like, h
it's a little boring, but it containing. Yeah, but there's a ton
of hob there's a ton of extra space in there, and you're like,
what, there could be way more stuff in here. So put way more
gunpowder in there and then ran some fuse down to the bottom which had been
where all the gunpowder was to make sure that it lived, and set it
out in the middle of our court light. It get back about three sparks,
shootout and then it's fucking twenty foot flames for about for about twenty seconds,
and it's just great because it sounds like a fucking jet and it's just
going. We had to go inside after that. Yeah, fireworks have never
been that cool ever since. Totally like, I don't, I don't.
I'm not gonna probably not gonna get any fireworks this year because who cares.
All the ones that are legal in this state's fucking suck ass. Yeah,
spot, I didn't know they're any legal here. It depends on what county
you live in. Really, Oh I thought it was Yeah, I thought
it was our staywood on my dorm floor. Freshman year of college. I
knew a guy it's always frustrated because he couldn't get into his room at times.
He had like a pot luck roommate, and he would frequently go in
there with a lady and lock the door so my friend could not get in
there. So this friend could not get in one night, and he was
particularly intoxicated, and it's nearest life. Fourth, I had a ton of
fireworks. I think they were mine. But he grabbed this big bundle of
like fifty bottle rockets, Yeah, lit it, and then had his friend
who knew how like Jimmy doors open with a credit card. Jim made the
thing open, so his roommate is in there in the middle of coitus.
Yeah, opens the door, throws in fifty lit bottle rockets, and shuts
the door behind him. Awesome, Awesome, Oh my god, it's a
real funny thing to do. That's a real funny thing to do. That's
fucked up. Like I don't even like, I can't even like people that
like throw individual firecrackers at each other. Oh yeah, Like I can't even
abide that this is like sterious, it's crazy. Don't do that. Why
would you do that? That's how I burned my first pair of America pants.
There's under the Life for it in college time. Put two lit Roman
candles in my pocket and ran down the street as they were shooting off,
and then it just burnt through and set my pants on fire. So I
had to retire the first I got them somewhere. They're all racks buck flag.
Good job, it was accident. I just admitted to Oh no,
oh no, seems to be a lot of audio involving people. Cy God
aund this website. Next. The next was for Dan and I don't think
I'm gonna read it now because I don't think he can talk anymore after the
last two Stimes' hear no, no, no, I gotta hear it.
Uh. Every year a lot of people come out of Fourth July missing their
hands. So yeah, fucking be careful. It's fucking there's I think somebody
in San Francisco last year lost a hand. I'm sure. Yeah, it's
a big city, plenty of hands loose. Yeah, it's fucked up,
Like, let's stay away from fireworks. Yeah, safe, insane, Yes,
get a punk stick there you go. All right, I'm gonna give
you one more chance. All right, uh Russell, excuse me, man,
I gotta get out of here. Russell from Calgary. It's questions for
Dan Reichert as a former resident, what is your opinion on the legality or
illegality of hedgehogs in the city of Lawrence, Kansas. That's a weird thing
that was as while I was in college. I want to say that's probably
like oh, seven o eight. There's some big thing about how it turned
out they were illegal, Like you couldn't own hedgehogs as a pet. Okay,
we are talking about literal hedgehogs. This isn't some awful euphanism for something
else. No. No, if I remember, don't possessed Ron Jeremy.
Okay, that's kind of what I was working. No, no, nope,
I remember right. It was some little kid, it's like eight or
nine, and he, like I think he was obsessed with song like the
hedgehog, and he wanted the hedgehog as a pet. Oh, this is
going to a dark place. And now I don't think there's a huge story
there. I think it got big pressed because the Daily Show did a segment
or I think Samantha Bee or someone went out to Lawrence and interviewed this kid
or whatever. But yeah, I think it was just one of those weird
old laws or something. It's been forever since I've read about this story.
But oh, this was like a law on the books from like eighteen fifty
or two. I want to say, that's what the story was. It's
been forever, so yeah, I don't remember, but yeah, nothing here's
there. I think they're legal now, I should hope. So yeah,
I never had on was America last time I checked. Yeah, all right,
all right, see you redeemed yourself. I was. I was worried,
but we're all good. All right, shows running along. Let's cram
in one email and then get out of here. David and Tucson. Email
is about our sick ass cyberpunk future. Here we go. Given is pretty
much inevitable at this point that we're headed towards some kind of cyberpunk dystopian future.
It's time to come clear on everyone's augmentation upgrade path. But would you
get replaced first with cybernetics beyond the obvious Internet implant in the brain? Google
Glass Slash, Ghosts and the shell stuff additional appendages for manual labor would be
pretty sick personally. Let's go around the table here, I'll take it all
everything. So if you could just take my brain out, because that's the
only thing I care about is my brain and just keeping my thoughts and everything
that I like and everything, just take it out and put it in some
super cool you know robot that can shoot lasers. I'm high and fly around
and do all sorts of cool shit. I don't need any part of my
actual organic body except for my brain. What if what if you lost every
what if you no longer have access to every pleasurable experience that you now have
lost access? What do you mean because you wouldn't have to you wouldn't have
your body? Oh, I guess so winer stuff wouldn't feel that good?
Roots there's I mean in that case? And yeah, I want my winer
and my brain probably don't have the weiner at all. Well, no,
then I'm just no dice. I gotta keep you have not thought this playing
through very thoroughly. I'm not going without my wings to say, the robot
body would even look like a person. You could be a giant robot spider.
I'd want to be a handsome robot so I can still do winter stuff
and I want to. But what if you could just trigger the brain response
that sex causes at any time, the emotional humans touching humans. What if
the robot. But if you stimulate that part too, Yeah, I mean
if you if it was the robot, Spider, dude, it was indiscernible
to my my robot. I mean, if you are willing to give up
your humanity, let's go all the way with it. Yeah, yeah,
sure, brain in a jar. Who needs a robot body? You could
just like I'm just singularity, You're just gonna live inside a computer anyway.
Yeah, hook yourself up to a simulation where you don't even need a body.
You just do what ever, and then the simulation you can do hollow
deck, kinky weird stuff, Barkley style all day long. And Barkley got
over that hollow weener. I hate this future, this conversation. It's very
disturbing, Jason. I can't tap that. No, I've replaced the broken
shit, still want my wiener real, Yeah, everything that was broken it
Jeff. So he's saying, like other than the obvious, like I stuff.
Yeah, yeah, connectivity stuff. Well yeah, he says, well,
no, he just said the Internet implant in the brain, Google,
Last Slash, Ghosts, and the shell stuff. So that's yeah, I
guess that's that's that's neural interface type eyeball. Eyeballs are still fair game.
Oh yeah, probably. Then then I would maybe get fucking robot eyes that
see shit real good, or like spinal replacement, like full on, like
reinforced. I would get interested, like you can lift a car over your
head or something. You just want to advance warfare exo basically and nothing that
bulky, Okay, Like I want to maintain a human look, and I
want to I want to fucking I want a sleeper. I want some fucking
shit that like you know, people look at it and just go like that's
some off the line stock shit, and then I just fucking throw a car
at people. Okay. I want Big Jack's arms. Fuck yeah, Okay,
my full robot body. I also want my tongue so I can tast
stuff. I think the more you bolt onto this thing, the less feasible.
Again, if you're in a robot body, you could synthesize the taste
of anything and stimulate your brain the same way that those things. You could
just taste. It just goes all the time. I could just download,
just have that taste in your system all the time, and I'm not paying
tongue up grade. All right, there you go. I don't think I
could install a mechanical in playfts, so I don't think I could do it.
M talk to me about gene therapy maybe, oh sure, yeah you
should give me perfect die as to can see the entire spectrum or something.
Yeah, yeah, that would that would be super cool without having to shove
a bunch of metal into me, like actual, actual crazy vision. I
bet, I bet, I bet getting metal stuff implanted or installed is like
not pleasant. It a lot fucking I wouldn't want to be the first one.
Yeah, Like I'm not sitting here still, like let's pioneer this ship.
Time to get it. They give you a deal, like if you
get a group on, if you're the first one, that I would totally
do it. The whole thing about a group on is it's a group of
people. You can't be the first one, Okay. If it's just a
cupon then yeah, all right, yes, Or they just say hey,
you'd be the first one and cost last because you'll probably die or whatever.
The cubon or coupon cupon, okay, coupon cue like the word cute when
I was a kid, and then I was mocked mercilessly until I gave it
up. I Uh, what's the word seceded? That means you gave up
no no from the union. What's the word when you get this concession?
I can see it. Con Seed is the word I conceded on the word
crayon because for years and years and years I said crown. Yes, where
does that come from? I don't know, But eventually I looked at it.
I was like, you know what, that probably sounds like crayon.
I've definitely known a lot of people that have said crown, Yeah, crown,
crayon. I always said crown. M M all right, uh fucking
weird. It's a lot of weird stuff. Yeah, man, I don't
like I want reflexes to like like make me the stealth best basketball player in
the world or a baseball player that can automatically hit any pitch, because I
can, fucking I have the reflexes to react. Oh man, we'll think
about when it's not just juicing. You have to worry about it totally in
the major league anymore? Ye As, Yeah, I want to Baseball would
be way more exciting. Barry Bonds has a robot spun, except that,
like if everyone was augmented, like, what would it even look like?
Yeah, well, you'd have to have a whole separate league, right,
Yeah, well, I mean, yeah, that's what they didn't real steal,
Like the boxing got too dangerous for everybody, so they just made robots.
But then there was one robot who could think and feel, oh and
dance. Okay, that's where that humid battle box back on the air.
Yeah, it's like a yeah, I think it's all Network TV even all
right. I spent a significant time as a child. My mom was one
of those moms I would always say like, literally anything as possible. I
remember being like a seven or eight year old kid and being like, I
could I can't fly if I wanted to, and She's like, no,
anything as possible. I remember saying to her, Okay, I just saw
a terminator too. I want a terminator arm more than anything in the world.
I said, that's not possible. Yes, anything's possible. She got
out the Yeah. I used to sit on my porch for decent amounts of
times be like, well, all I gotta do is want something enough,
And so I would look away from my arm, and I was not part
of what she said. It wasn't anything as possible in my brain. That's
I worked like, well, if I want something enough, it can just
happen. And so I would look away from my arm, and I'd go
like, all right, when I look back at my arm, it's gonna
be just like when Arnold took it off in T two, and I go
okay, And I'd look at it and I'd have a normal human hand and
be super bummed out that it was very disappointing. Yeah, I did that
a lot as a kidd and was wrong. She was wrong on that.
No, anything is possible. It's true, I don't have a terminator arm.
You're not talking to the right people. Okay, look the laws of
quantum uncertainty stays. Emails are over, this podcast is over. I gotta
go blow my nose again. Anything's possible, except for apparently like landing a
rocket, yeah, or launching one. Right. That was a shame.
There was a hollow lens on that rocket. I don't know if you saw
not anymore? Did you did you see that stuff? Yeah? Yeah,
they were sending one to the ISS for the astronauts to mess with. Wow,
the world is now one hollow lens poorer damn because it burned up along
with that rocket space. All the other hollow lenses are now worth that much
more. True enough, they're the ones that did it. How Deep does
the Rabbit Hole Go? Podcast at johnbomb dot com. Let's get out of
here? Yeah cool, that's all I got. All right, shall we
get out of here? You nose? Yeah, it's short week this week.
We're not here on Friday. Yes it's a holiday. Yes, well
the day after the holiday. But yes, you're right, we're not here
well that Friday. We're making Friday holiday, so they give us the day
off. It's holiday, sure, the best holiday, yeah, number two.
Therefore we're going to be doing something mon Thursday. Correct, Yeah,
same time as a Friday sea that's yeah, sure, not all right,
stay tuned for that. Bring your business. Yes, we'll cramp some other
stuff into this week. Oh yeah, tbd. Sure it'll be something'll go,
it'll go on the website. We got stuff, Yeah, some stuff
lined up, maybe even another live show. Oh wow, I'm right.
I might actually know what you're talking about. All right, that's exciting,
all right, Well, keep your eyes glued. Chiant bomb not coming for
all that hot business. Uh, And come back here next week at the
same time for another addition of the Giant Bomb Cast. See that
