<v Speaker 1>Yeah, we'll never get the chance to stuck about Rusty
<v Speaker 1>Brooks again unless you. I don't know, he played a
<v Speaker 1>fucking meter maid in a movie four years ago. But
<v Speaker 1>is it related to Jim Gaffigan. He kind of looks like,
<v Speaker 1>well that he nailed it. Yes, he's in fact Jim
<v Speaker 1>Gaffett's cousin. But but you know what was especially unique
<v Speaker 1>about this is this is Hull Cogan wrestling on their
<v Speaker 1>syndicated television, which they never ever had happen if it
<v Speaker 1>wasn't Saturday Night's made it right. You only saw Hogan
<v Speaker 1>on the free television shows, the weekly weekend TV shows,
<v Speaker 1>doing training vignettes or doing interviews and things, but matches
<v Speaker 1>hardly ever. We talked ages ago about that very first
<v Speaker 1>WWF taping at the Chase Hotel in Saint Louis after
<v Speaker 1>they sign Hulk Cogan and the Waning Days of nineteen
<v Speaker 1>eighty three in December, he comes in and does a
<v Speaker 1>match where he wins very quickly with the leg drop
<v Speaker 1>and basically, you know, just surprises the hell out of
<v Speaker 1>the fans who came to that taping because he was
<v Speaker 1>in the AWA a week before that, and as far
<v Speaker 1>as New York goes, they hadn't seen him, you know,
<v Speaker 1>over a year, but that launched the whole thing. I
<v Speaker 1>forget the name of the Gabbroni he beat up on
<v Speaker 1>on that one, but we've talked about that. That's one example.
<v Speaker 1>I think he had a match with Moondogs Spot one
<v Speaker 1>time that aired on the syndicated television. But with the
<v Speaker 1>exception of Saturday, when Saturday Night's Man Event started, especially,
<v Speaker 1>you had no prayer of seeing Hulk Cogan wrestle on
<v Speaker 1>Superstars or any challenge any of those kinds of shows.
<v Speaker 1>But this match was one exception, and it really only
<v Speaker 1>existed to get the Brandy Savage Hulk Cogan feud heat
<v Speaker 1>it up. And for Rusty Brooks it was fortuitous because
<v Speaker 1>he showed up at the taping, just like he did
<v Speaker 1>at anyone looking to get Jibbroni work. And fortunately for him,
<v Speaker 1>on the whiteboard, Cogan's name was written down is working
<v Speaker 1>that night with no opponent next to his name, and
<v Speaker 1>Rusty Brooks took the opportunity, and because he did as
<v Speaker 1>recently as you know, ten years ago, however long ago,
<v Speaker 1>this interview on in your head radio. Was he's still
<v Speaker 1>being asked about this match against Tulkogin.
<v Speaker 6>Yeah, I know it was funny. I mean went to

<v Speaker 6>When we were allowed the build and we left the
<v Speaker 6>chief j Strong though he was doing the TVs. We
<v Speaker 6>let him know we were here, you know, And I
<v Speaker 6>went down and as I was looking, Jerry had the
<v Speaker 6>big board up and back then we take three hours
<v Speaker 6>in one night, three hours with Peter three weeks. And
<v Speaker 6>I saw a stout on the board which said whul
<v Speaker 6>cog in the you know versus And there was a
<v Speaker 6>black spot. And as I was talking to Jay, I
<v Speaker 6>was looking at it and I said, Gay, you know,
<v Speaker 6>I don't want to shine like a mark, but I
<v Speaker 6>wouldn't mind have a nut scot if you could get
<v Speaker 6>it to me, and he was like, no problem a
<v Speaker 6>pencil with Andy is I had you in mind? I'm
<v Speaker 6>witch that was good.
<v Speaker 7>I should have more often, you know, I mean, I
<v Speaker 7>mean what what was xburance like, you know, the height
<v Speaker 7>of all Canadia being in the ring with Hogan.
<v Speaker 2>Well, I thought that that.
<v Speaker 6>Pops away there because at the time he was the
<v Speaker 6>biggest money maker and moneys driving in the business. And
<v Speaker 6>I was I to get the jost to work in.
<v Speaker 6>Uh you know, of course they were just starting with
<v Speaker 6>the angle with Hogan and Andy Savage. The match Knight was.
<v Speaker 6>They wanted me to come in and the oneted someone

<v Speaker 6>that there was somebody would be smart enough to get
<v Speaker 6>out of the way and not hurt Elizabeth, you know. Uh,
<v Speaker 6>and I I was trying to honor to get that spot.
<v Speaker 6>And I mean just a fact, you know, the mark
<v Speaker 6>out and get to.
<v Speaker 7>Work over you know, yeah, you know what? And he said,
<v Speaker 7>there's like three I can I just remember Hogan besides
<v Speaker 7>like Saren Spain event, Uh for like the Saturday morning
<v Speaker 7>and Sunday morning shows, it was you and uh it
<v Speaker 7>was uh, I forget his name was one of the
<v Speaker 7>Asian wrestlers.
<v Speaker 6>I remember he wrestled and uh, I know he worked
<v Speaker 6>Moondogs spot once on TV and I think him and
<v Speaker 6>Ardorf did a tug against somebody.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, what's about it?
<v Speaker 6>I remember him working?
<v Speaker 7>Uh what was Ogan like?
<v Speaker 3>Did were you around him? You know much?
<v Speaker 5>You know?
<v Speaker 6>I talked to him a few times on a live
<v Speaker 6>events before we worked and it was an interesting was
<v Speaker 6>that one of Hogan's good friends or workout partners from
<v Speaker 6>back in Minnesota. There was a kid that I wound
<v Speaker 6>up training and that was Corporal Kirchener moving on had
<v Speaker 6>a big run up there after Slaughder left and it
<v Speaker 6>was kind of an inside you know. When I first
<v Speaker 6>met Hogan was in the dressing room here in Miami
<v Speaker 6>at the Night Center, and uh, you know, Hogan had
<v Speaker 6>commented that Kirchner had showed him a few tapes of us,
<v Speaker 6>and you know, I was it was pretty proud because
<v Speaker 6>Hogan said, I saw you worked. I think you're all
<v Speaker 6>of the worker and I was like, wow, you know,
<v Speaker 6>so nobody and then hearing the champ recognized us, you know,
<v Speaker 6>from some you know, Indie takes that he had seen,
<v Speaker 6>and I thought that was pretty cool. So I mean
<v Speaker 6>he should have borrowed us off. And I mean, you know,
<v Speaker 6>I thought it was very cordial and very you know,
<v Speaker 6>cool with us.
<v Speaker 1>There you go, so Rushy Brooks out the story to tell.
<v Speaker 1>That's one thing, you know that that's crazy. I kind
<v Speaker 1>of love that about guys who only did one thing
<v Speaker 1>anyone remembers in the business, because you know you're going
<v Speaker 1>to get that story and you're going to get it. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>told one hundred times and told in a distilled way,
<v Speaker 1>and you're going to go straight. But yeah, that meant
<v Speaker 1>something to Rusty Brooks for sure. And for this tape,
<v Speaker 1>it's a total throwaway moment. To your point, it's actually
<v Speaker 1>flummixing to see a match that Randy Savage is not
<v Speaker 1>involved in as the first match of the tape, but right.
<v Speaker 2>I mean he's involved, but like he's not in it.
<v Speaker 2>You know. It's like it's funny that they even show
<v Speaker 2>the whole I mean, I guess because the the challenge
<v Speaker 2>happens early on, but it's it's it's very it was
<v Speaker 2>really weird to me.
<v Speaker 1>Indeed, Yeah, you knows he's saying that I probably have
<v Speaker 1>connected these dots before, but I don't know. It just
<v Speaker 1>struck me his novel. Yeah, of course they created Corporal
<v Speaker 1>Kirchner after Slaughter left for a w A. Of course
<v Speaker 1>they did, because fuck him. They had a big falling out, right,
<v Speaker 1>I think we did make that connection once before with
<v Speaker 1>that buffoon. That's uh, you know, that's his entree into
<v Speaker 1>the business because Hogan remembered him as a workout partner
<v Speaker 1>in Minneapolis, and and here Rusty Brooks trains him for
<v Speaker 1>the business quite something. So Rusty Brooks was built a
<v Speaker 1>connective tissue there. But we see Elizabeth kind of in
<v Speaker 1>rare form here. She takes the microphone. Yeah, and she
<v Speaker 1>says to Hogan, macho man asked me to ask you,
<v Speaker 1>why don't you wrestle anybody? With any credentials, and she
<v Speaker 1>does it kind of a mischievous smirk on her face.
<v Speaker 2>She does like she's actually playing like a little you know,
<v Speaker 2>like a little vixen type.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's fascinating that maybe that's a glimpse of kind
<v Speaker 1>of maybe the rough draft, early idea of the Elizabeth
<v Speaker 1>Yeah character for them, and it took shape as she
<v Speaker 1>just began the damsel in distress. But yeah, this is
<v Speaker 1>this is not much at all, Brooks Brian Blindside's Hogan
<v Speaker 1>has described there Hogan's hoofing away in the corner and
<v Speaker 1>white trunks by the way, So we're still not We're
<v Speaker 1>still not dialed into the red and yellow. That's how
<v Speaker 1>early this is not okay with that. Finally, Hope blocks
<v Speaker 1>a shot.
<v Speaker 2>Comfortable.
<v Speaker 1>It makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. Savage was wearing yellow
<v Speaker 1>knee pads and red boots or vice versa and olouds

<v Speaker 1>Hogan a buzzy crowd at the prospect of Hogan being
<v Speaker 1>out there, of course whipping a clothes line, Brooks takes

<v Speaker 1>Absolutely a big body slam by Hogan. He drops the
<v Speaker 1>leg on a high elevation one, two three, Hulk Cogan
<v Speaker 1>pins Rusty Brooks. Savage immediately comes in off the top
<v Speaker 1>rope of the double ax handle, stomping and seizing on Hulk,
<v Speaker 1>and they're going nuts. You can hear them going on.
<v Speaker 2>You know, what I thought was what was actually fascinating
<v Speaker 2>to me is that it looks like for I've never mean,
<v Speaker 2>I've seen him quite a few times, but it looked
<v Speaker 2>like Don Rickles had lost some weight. What referees on
<v Speaker 2>Don Rickles? Referee Don Rickles, Right.
<v Speaker 1>So Savage is going off with jabs. Bruno's on color,
<v Speaker 1>decrying the whole thing. I don't know if I was like,
<v Speaker 1>and Hogan finally fights back. They start getting rabbing in
<v Speaker 1>the crowd, blowing the roof off really and oh god,
<v Speaker 1>yeah yeah. Savage bills over the top to the apron.
<v Speaker 1>Bruno is remarking on just how explosive the crowd is
<v Speaker 1>being a Hulk Cogan's come back, and Holps wants Savage
<v Speaker 1>to step in the ring and Vince McMahon, by the
<v Speaker 1>ways on the call with Bruno, and he says that
<v Speaker 1>Liz had asked why doesn't he face anyone with credibility,
<v Speaker 1>when in fact she said credentials, not credibility.
<v Speaker 2>Of course.
<v Speaker 1>All the floor looks like it kind of looks like
<v Speaker 1>Hamburg for a second. There the way they u you
<v Speaker 1>can see the door in the background at MIT Hudson's
<v Speaker 1>six Center was indeed the location. And Vince Kants is
<v Speaker 1>unbelievable how Macha almost hides behind her skirt literally.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. Well, and h Bruno actually had kind words for
<v Speaker 2>Hulkogan on this h on his commentary.

<v Speaker 1>that Hogan's out there working its ass off in eighty

<v Speaker 2>still still, you know, channeling a killer channel asked for
<v Speaker 2>he yeah, exactly before he came mister America, right and
