How I Got to Study Marketing with Psychology at University Part 5

<v Speaker 1>I'm VICKI and I'm studying marketing and psychology. My primary
<v Speaker 1>school was a lyrics school in Melksham, and then my
<v Speaker 1>secondary school was the George Ward School, also at Melksham,
<v Speaker 1>so I did like the basic ucses that you have
<v Speaker 1>to do, like English.
<v Speaker 2>Math, sites, that kind of thing.
<v Speaker 1>For my options, I chose Art Graphics Spanish, so I
<v Speaker 1>did AS levels at my secondary school, but it moved
<v Speaker 1>to a new school, a new site, so that transferred
<v Speaker 1>to Melkshite Community School. I then left after my AS
<v Speaker 1>levels and I did Business B Tech at Watch College
<v Speaker 1>based in Chippenham. I chose to come to university mainly
<v Speaker 1>because it was just always something I had wanted to do,
<v Speaker 1>and I wanted to sort of leave my hometown because
<v Speaker 1>it was quite isolated, so I thought university would be
<v Speaker 1>the best opportunity to get out there and get a book,
<v Speaker 1>more royal life experience outside of this quite small community
<v Speaker 1>that I had been grown up in, and meet some
<v Speaker 1>new people, make some new friends. So in my course,
<v Speaker 1>I have four modules of marketing a year and two
<v Speaker 1>models of psychology, so two models i'm with a whole
<v Speaker 1>psychology class and four modules I doing I'm with the
<v Speaker 1>whole marketing class, so I'm across the two schools. So
<v Speaker 1>in my first year, I stayed in halls of residents.
<v Speaker 1>I stayed in James Watson, which I think has over
<v Speaker 1>seven hundred other people living in there, so there was
<v Speaker 1>a lot of other people living around me. I was
<v Speaker 1>in a flat with five other people's There were six
<v Speaker 1>us in total, sharing one kitchen.
<v Speaker 2>We all had our own en suite.
<v Speaker 1>My course it's quite small, so it's really nice because
<v Speaker 1>the marketing classes and the psychology classes are huge, but
<v Speaker 1>then there's only about twenty of us who do marketing psychology,
<v Speaker 1>so it's really nice because we all know each other
<v Speaker 1>and we've got like a real sense of community, whereas
<v Speaker 1>maybe if we're on some of the bigger courses.
<v Speaker 2>Be quite easy to feel quite isolated.
<v Speaker 1>But we can talk to everyone on our course, so
<v Speaker 1>that makes some seminars and tech group sessions really nice
<v Speaker 1>because we all know each other and so there's no
<v Speaker 1>awkwardness or anything. So on my course as well, because
<v Speaker 1>it's part of the Business school, we're able to do
<v Speaker 1>a industrial placement, so spend a year out between second
<v Speaker 1>and your final year do it working within a company,
<v Speaker 1>so it's a real life job. It's paid and you
<v Speaker 1>do everything that you would do in a real jobby
<v Speaker 1>that you'd expect it. It's not like work experience like
<v Speaker 1>where you just get given little things to do. So
<v Speaker 1>that's really great. It's giving me the opportunity to add
<v Speaker 1>more onto my CV. Give me that experience, hopefully give
<v Speaker 1>me like the edge when I finished my final year,
<v Speaker 1>I'm not too sure quite what I'd want to do when.
<v Speaker 2>I finish university.
<v Speaker 1>That's made me realize that I don't want to move
<v Speaker 1>back into my hometown. As much I love it there
<v Speaker 1>and love growing up, I love the extra opportunities that
<v Speaker 1>being in the city offers me. I chose my course
<v Speaker 1>because when I did as levels, I did psychology and
<v Speaker 1>I really enjoyed it. Then when I moved on to
<v Speaker 1>doing my B tech and business, I really enjoyed the
<v Speaker 1>marketing aspects. So I thought, I quite like the marketing.
<v Speaker 1>That sounds like a job I'd like to do. But
<v Speaker 1>I've enjoyed the psychology. So if I have that on
<v Speaker 1>the end, then I have an aspect of something that
<v Speaker 1>I'm really enjoying.
<v Speaker 2>As well as the future career prospects.
<v Speaker 1>Going to university isn't just about doing a core more
<v Speaker 1>than just doing your uni works.
<v Speaker 2>Because it really helps you get to know new people.
<v Speaker 1>When you're picking a UCCS, pick something that you love,
<v Speaker 1>something that you're good at, and something that you think
<v Speaker 1>is going to be useful. No matter what course you do,
<v Speaker 1>it's not so much about what specific subjects you learn
<v Speaker 1>within that course.
