I'm Matt Jones here where I am in New York. 00:00:46 Speaker 4: And a beautiful day. 00:00:48 Speaker 5: I guess you guys are in Lexington, Ryan and Drew. Is that ride in studio? 00:00:53 Speaker 6: Yep, we're in studio in Lexington. 00:00:54 Speaker 5: What kind of day do we have there? Because that's what most of Kentucky is experiencing. 00:00:59 Speaker 7: I think it's one of the better days we've had since probably November. It's actually a nice day outside it Yeah, it looks nice. 00:01:05 Speaker 5: Well, you can give us a shout on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Kentucky fans have been a sort of a topic of conversation with the game Saturday and what's coming up next Saturday. You can give a shout eight five to nine, two eighth twenty two eighty seven. A vision auto glass text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four in this audition sponsored by the TJ. Smith Office, you call Tjh'll make them pay. I guess two big stories. Obviously, the Cats lose to Vandy, a very disappointing loss to me seventy four sixty nine in Nashville. And then, of course last night you got the uh two teams headed to the Super Bowl, the Eagles and the Chiefs. We'll postpone that for a little while. Start with Kentucky. Drew, you were you were well, no what it. Neither one of you went to Nashville, right, I'd say you were in Nashville. Yeah, you guys were not in Nashville, so you were in Lexington. 00:01:57 Speaker 4: I sort of. 00:01:58 Speaker 5: Gave my initial take on the game on the postgame show, disappointed in the execution down the stretch kind of you know, just for ten minutes, the first ten minutes and second half, I thought Kentucky played amazing, and then I thought for the other thirty minutes, really a clunker and some poor effort and just frustration. I guess Ryan then drew, I'll go to you before I go to the guy who won his Vanderbilt team shitt And what did you guys think of Saturday? 00:02:31 Speaker 7: I kind of went with you had two kind of big takeaways. One, if this team's not going to score seventy points, they're kind a hard time beating anybody. I mean, it's just so when they're struggling offensively. 00:02:40 Speaker 6: There were there losses. 00:02:43 Speaker 5: Four of our five losses haven't scored seventy That's amazing to me for a team that, like one, you know, second or third in the country in points. 00:02:51 Speaker 6: Yeah, proof right there. Second thing was, man, turnovers killed them. 00:02:54 Speaker 7: They had a couple really costly turnovers late in the game that by Leamont Butler had a bad turnover late in the game that kind of caught. But then the thirteen turnovers in the first half id allowed Vandy going that big run. Was it twenty to four? In that first half where Kentucky just looked really bad. 00:03:08 Speaker 5: Yeah, they had what thirteen turnovers in the first half, only four in the second half, but drew They felt really important, and you know, I remember one of the things Cal used to always talk about is is turnovers behind the three point line because they often lead to layups or easy baskets, and we ended up doing some of those there at the end as well. 00:03:31 Speaker 8: Yeah, I was pretty disappointed that one. It was the I think the first half was the worst half of the season. More they do on fourteen points at halftime, they just looked terrible when really I thought Vandy kind of played into UK style right away. I was surprised UK didn't play better in that first half, But then I was upset they tricked me because when they took the lead and they got up pretty big in the second half, I just took a sigh of relief and thought, well, this is over. Kentucky's got this. Write the story. Another bad first half, collected data figured out in the second, went on a run and won. But then I shock that they gave that away once they did get that second half lead, and just a disappointing down the stretch. 00:04:05 Speaker 5: Yeah, we went from fourteen down at halftime to seven up in the second half with eight minutes to go. I mean, in a twelve minute stretch, they beat Vandy by twenty one. And if you do that, I mean, in most games, you're gonna certainly win. But that also gives you a sense of how poorly they played. I mean, if you take away that run, basically going from up fourteen or excuse me, down fourteen to up seven in the other twenty eight minutes of the game, Ryan, we lost by twenty six points, right, So if you take the fourteen minutes, excuse me, the twenty minutes of the first half, and the last eight minutes of the second half, we lost by twenty eight points. 00:04:47 Speaker 4: Fourteen points. 00:04:48 Speaker 5: I mean, we lost by fourteen in the last eight minutes of the game. 00:04:51 Speaker 6: I mean that's a yeah, that's. 00:04:54 Speaker 5: Really really bad Ryan, for a team. I don't care who you're playing, but certainly playing Bandy. 00:05:00 Speaker 7: And I gotta admit it felt like it at time because he was getting beat that bad, like they were just getting pummeled, like getting beat twenty points most of the game. It just felt like, even down fourteen, it shouldn't have been that close. 00:05:11 Speaker 5: Yeah, I kind of agree with you. So, you know, you made the point Drew about how at the beginning they were playing our style. I thought that too, and you had Edwards for a baby get hot there at the beginning kind of kept them in the game. 00:05:23 Speaker 4: You know. 00:05:24 Speaker 5: The surprising part to me was down the stretch, how poorly we executed. 00:05:29 Speaker 4: You know, they hit back to back three. 00:05:32 Speaker 5: To me, the key sequence of the game, absent the Butler turnover in the old way turnover, was when we got up seven, they came down, Drew and hit a three that I think if they don't score on that possession, we win the game. They hit a three, then we come down. We get a good look. Butler has a layup under the basket. He misses it, It falls into Mary's hands and Omari just drops the ball, which man, I mean, I feel like he has hands of stone. 00:06:02 Speaker 4: He just dropped the ball. We go to a TV timeout. 00:06:06 Speaker 5: When they come out of the timeout, they get another three and it goes from seven to one. 00:06:11 Speaker 4: And that sequence if. 00:06:12 Speaker 5: They were to miss those shots, Butler makes that layup, or even if Amari had just catch caught the ball, he had a dunk if he caught it. I felt like that sequence was a huge one in the game. 00:06:25 Speaker 8: Yeah, And just like in many other of the losses, it just felt like Kentucky had this opportunity right in front of him. They didn't seize the moment. And on the other end, in this case, Vandy's hitting shots, I don't think they normally hit. We saw another banked in three. I don't give there's another banked in three. Just stop the game and go home, get on the planet's own five. 00:06:43 Speaker 4: Guys on the pre game show. 00:06:45 Speaker 5: Every single loss this year, every single losses included a banked. 00:06:50 Speaker 4: In three through that's just ridiculous. 00:06:53 Speaker 8: And and late in the game to these guys credits. But Vandy's big guys were hitting threes. When you've got a guy that wears the number nine nine and he's hitting threes in the game, you're in trouble point guard. But still they're all point guards. 00:07:07 Speaker 3: Point guard. 00:07:10 Speaker 8: The fact that mcglockton and Carrie, I guess, uh he would they end up pitting four together. I don't think you can't expected that. 00:07:17 Speaker 4: And that's just another the guy they had listed. 00:07:20 Speaker 5: Pope said after the game that the part because you're right, your goober coaching and calls everybody a point guard. Although I think he might be good. Why can't you bring Stackhouse back? Can you get him to come back for another year? Drew would be even worse. I always felt pretty good with uh with Stackhouse, but he but Pope said that they wanted to give Vandy give their sinners open looks at three and and Ryan Apparently they went five of nine, so that you know, I'm sure they were playing the numbers there Ryan, but it didn't work out for him. 00:07:50 Speaker 7: Yeah, they're hitting everything they throw up, and we're struggling again offensively. I mean, we saw some guys really struggle offensively. I'm you know, I'm beginning to think that the butler's hurt a lot worse than we think he is, because man, he just didn't look himself. Without Otaga away, they would have really been in trouble. 00:08:05 Speaker 4: Well, let's talk. 00:08:06 Speaker 5: About the injury component, because you have all right, car was out and if you listen Drew to the postgame comments, it sounds like he might be out a bit. 00:08:18 Speaker 4: Pope said he felt. 00:08:19 Speaker 5: Like that he had not done Car well in terms of playing him. The insinuation, I don't know the exact word he used. But the insinuation was maybe they'd been playing him when they shouldn't have. And it sounded to me like Drew was we might expect him to not play for a period of time. 00:08:40 Speaker 4: Did you take it like. 00:08:41 Speaker 8: That, Yeah, I think most people did. Those were pretty deflating comments from Pope. He all but said don't expect him soon. He said, I've probably done a bad job with Carr and how he's playing. I mean, Carr wanting to get back. It sounded like they wish they had been resting him longer. But I'm with you those comments. I don't we don't know anything, but I don't expect to see car for a while. Pope was not talking like a dude that's about ready to see a car back in the starting lineup. 00:09:06 Speaker 5: And then Butler, I mean, I think, if we're honest, Ryan Butler's been really bad the last two games. I mean, I think he was really bad against Alabama. I think he really struggled against Beady. Now, some commenter online wrote something like I feel like he's been hurt, and then his dad retweeted it, so his dad sort of almost confirmed he's been hurt. And you can see him during the game kind of playing with his shoulder like almost like it feels like trying to put it back in the place. It's what's uncharacteristic to me is are the turnovers. I mean to getting his pocket picked. That's bad, but I guess that happens. But I didn't understand the trying to force feed the ball. It looked like Pope and called time out. They had to play set up. The play required Amari to get the ball at the top of the key, and when that was cut off, Butler was like, I'm forcing that ball no matter what, and that led to a turnover that that Ryan. Those two turnovers were crucial. Always was bad. But I mean, at least Oway was trying to get to the basket. Those two by Butler were before they'd even run any offense at all. 00:10:18 Speaker 6: Yeah, that's what I think. It's a fair conversation to have. 00:10:20 Speaker 7: Is he really banged up where it's try it's messing with him Because there was a point in the game against Vandy two where he stuck his left arm out and tried to flect a ball and then he just left that left arm hang for about ten to fifteen seconds. You could tell he probably it tweaked it or something, because he just didn't even move it for like ten or fifteen seconds. So I think there's something to that. But you know, they're so thin right now on the bench if cars out and cars out. You know, Pope tried to play some different guys, but some guys just really weren't ready to play. 00:10:47 Speaker 5: I don't think there was some lineups there in the first half, Drew, we can't go back to somebody right the I mean Colin Chandler, you know, I hope there's still a time that kid can play here because he's I think he's very talented. This is not that time. I mean he he looked scared to death. And that lineup at the end of the first half. I you know, at one point they had like Noah Chandler, Braya and almanor in at the same time. And honestly, Shannon that the four of us might have been the same defensively for us during that period of time. I mean, I'm not there was a period at the end of the first half through it looked we looked like a high school team. 00:11:31 Speaker 4: I mean it was. 00:11:32 Speaker 5: It was not just in terms of the sloppiness, and Vandy took advantage that whole time. 00:11:37 Speaker 8: If we weren't on radio, i'd tell you what I said. When I left because I had to pick up a pizza, And when I came back, I only missed a few minutes and I looked up and all those guys are on the court, and I just thought, what in the world has happened that this lineup is in? And unfortunately we saw pretty quickly another piece of evidence that it's just not time for Chandler to be on the court. 00:11:53 Speaker 3: I mean, long. 00:11:54 Speaker 8: Term, I think he's got it in him eventually, but the two years off and whatever else is going that he just can't be out there right now. And that was pretty clear the moment he got I. 00:12:04 Speaker 5: Mean, we've seen with Travis Perry and Trent Noah Ryan, They've both had moments. I mean, I thought Trent Noah played pretty well at Vandy. I'm not exactly sure why Pope put him in on that final defensive play because he that didn't work. 00:12:18 Speaker 4: But I actually thought. 00:12:19 Speaker 5: He hustled, he played hard, he actually would get physical, whereas I think a lot of our guys were avoiding contact. And we've had some moments with Travis Perry this year where I thought he's looked good. 00:12:30 Speaker 4: I didn't think Saturday was one of them. But he's had some moments where he's looked good. 00:12:34 Speaker 5: But for whatever reason, Colin Chandler just, I mean, except for the Blue White game, we really haven't seen anything that suggests that he can play here yet. 00:12:43 Speaker 7: Yeah, Trent has slowly been earning some quality minutes. I think he's getting confidence in himself and Pope is getting confidence in him. I think they have confidence in Travis Perry. But what you've seen from Collin, from Chandler, I mean, I don't know how you could feel good about putting him out there. I mean, to be honest, Matt, the game played out exactly the way Shannon the dude told us it was going to on Friday. I mean, that's it played out kind of exactly what he said. 00:13:05 Speaker 3: I mean, you know, it made me look like a genius. 00:13:08 Speaker 5: What did you say wins? 00:13:12 Speaker 9: No? 00:13:12 Speaker 2: I said, First of all, Vandy wins, they have to create points off turnovers, which they did. I said, I said Vandy would not match Kentucky's shot for shot. Kentucky percentage wise outshot Vandy. 00:13:24 Speaker 4: Anyway, out rebounded you didn't. 00:13:27 Speaker 2: And then finally I said, if Vandy gets a big lead, don't worry about it because they'll blow it, and they did. I didn't think they would come back from down seven. I thought at that point the game was over. Kentucky had it. But credit to Vandy for coming back down seven. 00:13:39 Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that's part of the reason you should win. Win. 00:13:41 Speaker 5: You out shot him, you out rebounded him, and you came back from a deficit and took a seven point lead. Now, if you pointed the two reasons we lost, you're gonna point it turnovers. And then they hit four more threes, which gets me, Drew to kind of my final point before we. 00:13:55 Speaker 4: Go to break, why don't we shoot more threes? It is? 00:13:59 Speaker 5: I went back and look, we made ten threes a game in our first eight games of the season or something like that, which or maybe seven of our first eight or whatever, and it was like a Kentucky record. And now we have been outshot just attempt three point attempts in six of our seven SEC games. And we are the team that's supposed to be a three point shooting team. Why do you think, Drew, we've gone away from that? 00:14:29 Speaker 4: I don't know. 00:14:30 Speaker 8: I mean part of it as teams have adjusted, but he's still not getting anywhere near what we want. What kills me is Kobe Brea. I haven't seen what he is today out of the weekend, but going into the weekend he was second in the country in percentage and not top fifty in attempts. I'm ready for Kobe to start ballhogging. I don't care if a couple of them clank off the side of the backboard. We need more out of him. He hasn't even scored in double figures in several games. If I'm not mistaken, I think he's a big piece of why the offense isn't getting where they need to be because for a while, I know the competition is down, but you know he's throwing in three or four a game. Now it's we're lucky to see one out of them. 00:15:05 Speaker 5: I just I don't get I feel like they got are so unselfish that they don't shoot, and I don't understand it, Like Jackson Robinson and. 00:15:15 Speaker 4: Kobe Brea need to shoot. 00:15:18 Speaker 5: If they have a sliver of opening, Ryan fire it up, Like what are we doing because one of the things we've seen is with the exception, Oh wait, this team does not finish at the rim. 00:15:28 Speaker 4: They just don't. 00:15:29 Speaker 5: So I would much prefer them shooting threes at threes more than two. 00:15:33 Speaker 6: Yeah. 00:15:34 Speaker 7: I think one reason that gives many three is we've talked about this. The opposing defenses are really pushing them out way out, you know, picking them up way outside of three point line. That pressure on them again. And Brea and Robinson, these guys aren't very physical. They're having trouble getting free from that, you know what I mean? 00:15:49 Speaker 5: Yeah, they are, and we've got and we're we can't finish at the rim. 00:15:52 Speaker 4: We miss so many attempts at the rim. It does make it hard. 00:15:56 Speaker 5: If I'm nine two eighth twenty two eighty seven, will talk more about the game. I guess the only positive is uh Shandon had to pay US five hundred thousand dollars, or at least his school did, because they can't stay off the court and they're not law abiding citizens. 00:16:11 Speaker 4: We'll talk about that right after this. This KZR welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 00:16:18 Speaker 5: If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, couple open lines give us a shout, good chance to get in the text machine is seven seven to two seven seven four five two five four one person rights Mad I'm not blaming the refs, but I'm. 00:16:31 Speaker 4: Stopping the sentence right there. I'm right, Shannon, I'm not blaming the rev. 00:16:35 Speaker 5: I mean you're blaming the refs, and I'm not listening to it that the the refs were very clear Drew at the beginning of the game. 00:16:42 Speaker 4: There weren't gonna be fouls. 00:16:43 Speaker 5: They didn't even call a foul in the first twelve minutes, So you got to adjust. 00:16:47 Speaker 4: Like this goes back. 00:16:48 Speaker 5: To my problem when it comes to officiating in Kentucky. We gotta play to the whistle. 00:16:53 Speaker 4: Now. 00:16:54 Speaker 5: I know it's gotta be tough for Mark. He teaches these guys for a week how to avoid playing for foules, and then we end with reps who don't call anything, but we still Drew. We're gonna have to adjust because like they weren't going to call anything the whole game, and to be fair, I think they were consistent in not calling anything the whole game. 00:17:11 Speaker 8: Yeah, and I've been upset after a few games about officiating and I think overall SEC officiating is pretty terrible. But Kentucky losing to Vandy, the officiating is about zero point zero zero two percent of an impact on the game. I'm just upset that Kentucky dropped the ball in a situation they should have won with the crowd, with the way Vandy played, with Vandy being Vandy, I don't care. I mean, the officials could have been terrible. I can't point any fingers at them after the opportunity Kentucky wasted. 00:17:38 Speaker 5: One person writes, Matt, why are you all being so negative? This has still been a great year. Well, it has been a great year, but we lost to Vandy. I mean, you know, do you want to come on and say, you know, Shandon, we lost to Vandy. 00:17:53 Speaker 4: That's good. I mean, well, like you. 00:17:55 Speaker 6: We lost. 00:17:56 Speaker 2: But they were a good team though, I mean they're not Stockhaus's vanas they are. They might be ranked, they will be I mean, yeah, they're probably gonna be ranked. 00:18:04 Speaker 4: They're gonna be ranked. 00:18:05 Speaker 5: But at the same time, everybody's good, right like you, we're you know, I mean, we're gonna have to We're gonna keep playing teams that are good. That's just gonna be how it is. So that show Drew excuse me, Ryan, five hundred thousand dollars. That's what Vandy got fined for court storming. Now, there was a great scene I think everybody's seen the picture now of at the last time out while they were doing that monitor review, the Vandy ad went to the student section and begged them. 00:18:37 Speaker 4: To not storm the court. 00:18:39 Speaker 5: Literally walked student by student and said, please don't storm the court. We need this five hundred thousand dollars for Nile, and then those stupid kids stormed it anyway, five hundred thousand dollars. And apparently I did not know this, but the SEC apparently they have changed policy, so now the money goes to Kentucky, which I didn't realize. I thought it always went to the league office, and apparently it did. But I guess they've changed that rule because if on the SEC website it says the money goes to Kentucky. So they basically paid for one or two of our football players for storming the car court. That's kind of amazing, Ryan and And five hundred thousand dollars is not a huge thing, but actually it's not a little thing in today's new world where you have to pay the players. 00:19:36 Speaker 9: No. 00:19:37 Speaker 7: I love that seat of the ad over there had her hands together like she's praying please don't rush to court. Play a parent, like a parent, turn your little three year old, do not eat those chocolate chip cookies when I leave the room. 00:19:47 Speaker 6: As soon as you leave the room. Boom. THAT'SOK, exactly what they rushed the court. 00:19:50 Speaker 7: I didn't realize either, that the opposing school gets the money that's in the n In a nil world, that's huge. Now you got extra five hundred thousand dollars to spend and for basket. 00:20:00 Speaker 5: That's gonna be a good thing for Kentucky because a lot of the times the storm in the court is gonna be against us. 00:20:05 Speaker 6: That's true. 00:20:06 Speaker 4: You know, we don't do ball. 00:20:07 Speaker 5: If you're Alabama, that's probably, but basketball court storms happen more, are easier to happen, and will probably happen to us more than any other team. 00:20:17 Speaker 4: In the SEC, if we're being honest. 00:20:20 Speaker 5: So Drew, I didn't know that rule changed, but it's actually probably a rule that's a pretty good rule for Kentucky. 00:20:26 Speaker 8: So maybe every other year we intentionally lose one in an LSU or a Vandy and collected check, go. 00:20:31 Speaker 2: Buy yourself another five stone player. 00:20:33 Speaker 4: On the vand end. 00:20:36 Speaker 8: I think you just have to eat that and celebrate it you beat Alabama and football in Tennessee and Kentucky a week apart in basketball. I know it's gonna be expensive, but those students in that school won't have a run like that maybe ever again. So just pay it off and enjoy it. 00:20:50 Speaker 5: The Vandy the Alabama game was certainly worth storm in the field. Yes, I would even argue maybe the Tennessee basketball game. I mean we were ranked I guess ninth. We are Kentucky. I get it. But I also shay to understand why your ad was over there begging like it. That is, you know, that is a significant amount of money in this new era. Back in the past, I don't think it would have mattered as much. But they're gonna have twenty two million dollars that they have to add to their budget, and now they have twenty two point five and Mitch has twenty one point five. 00:21:24 Speaker 4: Thank you, Vanderbid. 00:21:26 Speaker 2: Now that they're gonna be in the top twenty five, you're one of them, So you got to stop acting like you're the little team knocking off you know, the goliath team. 00:21:33 Speaker 3: So I also love by the way. 00:21:35 Speaker 2: That they had like twenty security guards lined up, like what are they going to do. Like as soon as the court storm happened, they ran right by those guys. 00:21:42 Speaker 4: Well there's not Yeah, there's really nothing you can do because you can't tackle. That's gonna look. 00:21:46 Speaker 3: It's like a show of force that didn't work. 00:21:48 Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not gonna work. 00:21:49 Speaker 3: Who's up next, Let's go to bluegrass? 00:21:51 Speaker 4: Bluegrass? How are you? 00:21:54 Speaker 10: I'm doing alright? Well, no, I'm not doing alright, man. I'm sort of held my tongue. I haven't called it in. I've been a little bit on the downside. I'm getting tired of the lack of urgency some of us players are playing with. We got to go through people to get the ball and not go around. Excuse me, pardon me? Can I get this loose ball? I'd like to be going through some people. And that's the reason Noah played. That's the only reason Noah played. I don't want to say, you know. 00:22:20 Speaker 4: No he did. 00:22:20 Speaker 5: You're right he was. You're exactly right. That's what he did. Is he went and he threw his body. And if our other guys are going to have to do that, I. 00:22:29 Speaker 10: Just don't want. I don't want to see Pope go down with the ship with Robinson. I don't. I don't. I sort of feel like it's falling tubby and and. 00:22:39 Speaker 5: I don't going going to the ship or going down with for who who are you talking about? 00:22:45 Speaker 10: Robinson's been good, yeah, but he doesn't get after the loose balls. He doesn't and he doesn't play with the lack of. 00:22:54 Speaker 5: Well, he played decent defense on Edwards when they switched him on him, and he I don't think he was our problem Saturday at all. To be honest with you, We'll take a break and be right back. 00:23:04 Speaker 4: This cast are TJ. 00:23:08 Speaker 5: Smith personal injury attorney. 00:23:10 Speaker 4: Call TJ. He'll make them pay. 00:23:12 Speaker 2: Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio present it by Stockton Mortgage. 00:23:15 Speaker 3: Here's Matt Jones. 00:23:17 Speaker 4: Welcome back, Tay Swarts Radio AF. 00:23:19 Speaker 5: I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four one person rights, Matt. I do wonder if our team feels pressure of playing at Kentucky where everybody's super Bowl and some of these kids may not be used to it, you know, maybe, but that's that's it. Like I mean, and we've had fifteen years of having dudes right out of high school and some of them pick it up. Some of them don't, so like you have to have the mentality to play here. I mean, that's that's a part of it. I don't get the sense that that they don't get up for it, but they certainly didn't play the last three. 00:23:55 Speaker 4: Or four minutes well. 00:23:56 Speaker 5: One person says, Matt, I don't know how you can say Jackson Robinson played good defense. He is our worst defender. He is not our worst defender by far. And even Mark Pope said that, you know, I mean Shannon. After the beginning, they put Robinson on Edwards. Edwards struggled a little bit until the end. Then he hit a couple of shots there at the end, but you know, he's what he scored like nine points in the first three minutes. They then they then switched Robinson on him. Actually thought he did pretty well. Our worst defenders are some other guys. I mean, he's not a great defender, but Brea and uh and and some of the guys coming off the bench, Al Minor, even Carr, although he was hurt, how much do you think not having car Drew mattered in this game? 00:24:43 Speaker 8: A ton not gonna use it as an excuse, but I think that's gonna be a big deal moving forward to You know, Carr hadn't been perfect, but in the comeback against Duke, to comeback against Gonzaga, a lot of the big moments and big runs where Kentucky won games, Andrew Carr was a part of it, especially late. So I'm worried about that. And I really think even though Kirk Riso wasn't exactly an All SEC player, I think his loss has been very impactful too, this injury thing. Again, not making excuses for him, but I think it's hurting Kentucky a lot more than give them credit for. 00:25:15 Speaker 4: Yeah, I do too. 00:25:16 Speaker 5: Now, big picture, Ryan, you know, I don't know is this Are you adjusting your expectations at all? Like, I mean, I think after our non conference maybe our expectations got a little ahead of where they were before the season. Are you adjusting them back to where they were originally? Are you feeling even worse than that? Like, where are you on it? 00:25:39 Speaker 7: I guess I'm gonna be honest, I'm a little worse. And it's not necessarily a reflection on Kentucky. It's a reflection on the rest. 00:25:44 Speaker 6: Of the SEC. 00:25:44 Speaker 7: I mean, like you said, you still got Auburn, Tennessee twice Alabama at their place. I mean, there's still some really oh Miss, there's still some really, really tough games, So there's more losses coming. 00:25:57 Speaker 4: I mean, but you can also look at that as an opportunity. 00:26:00 Speaker 5: I mean, there's also a chance with those games to get wins. Do you have any worry drew at all about making the tournament? And the only reason I say that is we only have two or three games left on the schedule that you would say, Okay, we're definitely winning those. Do you have any worry about that at all? I mean, for me, if this team wins eighteen games, they're in the tournament, so like they're gonna need like four more. 00:26:25 Speaker 4: I feel like they definitely get that. 00:26:27 Speaker 5: But like, I mean, you know, any worry to get to twenty, for instance, you'd have to win, you'd have to go six and six in these last twelve any worry about doing that? 00:26:39 Speaker 8: Not right now? We were having this debate on the website this weekend. I kind of made the case of why we shouldn't worry. I mean, they're third in the country in quad one wins. They have six quad one wins in the net rankings, today. I think they're twelve or thirteen. I mean, there is some bad losses, but their non conference wins were so good, and if they just win a few more in the SEC, those would be good wins. I just don't see a miss the tournament situation and less things just go really south. Moving forward, few more in the SEC, those are gonna be even. Those are gonna be more big resume wins to put next to the ones you already have. 00:27:11 Speaker 5: Beat South Carolina, beat LSU, beat Arkansas. 00:27:15 Speaker 4: Let's just say, beat Vandy at home. 00:27:18 Speaker 5: Right now, you're at eighteen, and then it's just like, win one or two of these at Texas, at Oklahoma, Old Miss, you know, Auburn at home, Tennessee at home. 00:27:29 Speaker 4: Just win a couple of them. So I'm not worried about either. 00:27:32 Speaker 5: What's interesting about the net is we've been like twelfth or thirteenth all year drough whether we win or lose, it's like, no matter what happens, we stay at twelve and thirteen, no matter what. 00:27:42 Speaker 8: That's been very weird. There's been weeks where, you know, you go have these big wins and you can't wait to see where they're on the rankings, and it's like up one spot, then you lose that. Georgian's like, oh no, down one spot. It's been Kentucky's whatever the. 00:27:54 Speaker 4: We've been twelfth or thirteenth. Yeah, it's like in Palm. 00:27:57 Speaker 8: The analytics are a little wonky around Kentucky too. I don't get home if it's how they play or what. But it hasn't been effective directly. 00:28:03 Speaker 4: It's really odd. 00:28:04 Speaker 5: It doesn't seem to have an effect either way. I'm nine twenty two eighty seven. 00:28:08 Speaker 4: Who's next? Shit? dB? dB? How are you? dB? 00:28:13 Speaker 11: I'm doing good. I watched a nice wrestling match Saturday between Auburn and Tennessee. 00:28:20 Speaker 4: In my opinion, ridiculous. 00:28:22 Speaker 11: I think the referees are letting things get too far out of hand and it's going to hurt the SEC when they get in the tournament games. You're going to get some officials that are going to start calling things and then they're going to be out in no time. 00:28:39 Speaker 4: Well, dB, remember. 00:28:40 Speaker 5: Though, it was only a week ago that people were complaining that they were. 00:28:43 Speaker 4: Calling too many fouls. Remember, I mean this is a week ago. 00:28:46 Speaker 5: There was a game that had something like what was it seventy fouls called or sixty something fouls called in the A and M Alabama game, So maybe they went too far in the other direction. I'm not sure, but I think it's like, you know, we were complaining at the beginning of the year they called too many fouls, and then this weekend the complaint. 00:29:05 Speaker 4: Was they called no fouls. So I don't really know what they're gonna do. 00:29:10 Speaker 11: When that Auburn player grabbed that Tennessee guy the end of the game and almost threw him down in front of the official, the Tennessee coach throws his water bottle down, I mean, it's getting ridiculous some of the things they let go. 00:29:24 Speaker 4: Well in that game, I agree with you. 00:29:26 Speaker 5: I appreciate the call, but I will say right, I hadn't thought until this week that they weren't calling enough fouls because I thought they were calling way too many, And then it was clear in that UK and any game they weren't blowing that whistle. I can't remember I've ever seen a game where they didn't call foul in the first twelve minutes the game. Can you ever remember that? 00:29:41 Speaker 6: No, that's insane. So let me ask you this. 00:29:44 Speaker 7: You know, after the game, Jackson Robinson came on with Jack Gibbons and said something like he felt like they came out tentative because they'd practiced all week not fouling. 00:29:52 Speaker 5: Yeah, probably so, probably so. But you know what, I understand why they did that because in every game up to this point they were calling everything. So you know, but even with all that said, we're up seven. 00:30:05 Speaker 4: With eight minutes ago, we got away to win. 00:30:08 Speaker 5: Now, we didn't collapse ever drew like Kansas at the end of their game. Did you watch the end of that game? Did you see live? 00:30:15 Speaker 8: But that was a historic collapse. 00:30:18 Speaker 5: In regulation, Ryan, They're up four, they let Houston score and then they can't get the ball inbounds, turn it over, game goes to overtime. 00:30:27 Speaker 4: So they already had one inbound screw up in regulation. 00:30:30 Speaker 5: Then in overtime, up six, at the line for two shots, miss them both give up a three, miss the inbound, give up another three, and go to overtime. That's one of the most historic collapses I can ever remember. And it was the final leg of the KSR parlay, which all Kansas had to do was win. If you think I wasn't throwing stuff in my up here, I was going insane during that. 00:31:01 Speaker 4: What at home. What a collapse by Kansas. 00:31:04 Speaker 6: I'm with you. 00:31:05 Speaker 7: I had heavily invested for me and the KSR parlay comes down to that. I'm just screaming, Kansas, just do the Caliperry plate. Put have hundred Dickinson and throw put his arm up in the air and just get the ball and bounds. That's all you had to do was get it in bounds. I couldn't believe they collapsed like that. 00:31:19 Speaker 5: And he missed the two free throw. All of you does make one of those free throws and it's over. 00:31:24 Speaker 4: It was. I mean, I don't know that I've ever seen the team collapse. 00:31:29 Speaker 5: I mean, the only one I could think about was many years ago drew that Duke Maryland collapse when Maryland was up like ten with a minute to go and then Duke came back. That was I say, that was twenty years ago. Probably that was when I think Jay Williams played. But that was one for the ages there Saturday night. 00:31:46 Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, that was an improbable ending for any level of basketball. You have that at transit, it would be crazy. But the fact that it happened in the fog, where usually you know, things just start happening whistles, lights will go out. I think they even put in bigger rims for Kansas late in the games there for them. For them to lose on Vet court makes it even crazier. 00:32:04 Speaker 5: It was bizarre. Now, let me ask you. I said this after the game. You tell me if I'm right. I said that I think Kentucky at this point, if you're just looking big picture, I'm gonna enjoy the last twelve games, assuming we win enough to make the tournament. For me, Ryan, this team in March is one of these every game. 00:32:26 Speaker 4: We can win, every game we can lose. 00:32:28 Speaker 5: And that sounds simplistic, but I don't There's no team in the NCAA that. 00:32:33 Speaker 4: I don't think this team can beat. 00:32:36 Speaker 5: There also probably won't be many teams in the tournament that I don't think we can lose to. So is that just gonna be what it is. It's like every game is a battle, and we'll see what happens. 00:32:46 Speaker 7: I think everybody's gonna agree with you. This team is definitely gonna make the tournament. Yet there's gonna be that matchup in maybe the second round to get the team they should be. 00:32:53 Speaker 4: What about the first round? Yeah, I mean we could be a sixth seed. 00:32:58 Speaker 5: I mean, forget the second we might be a five or six seed and the first round is like that. 00:33:05 Speaker 7: No, because even this week, you know, they dropped Tennessee. That's a three game slide going in with Arkansas coming in, I mean, I'm gonna be nervous and anxious this whole week. 00:33:15 Speaker 9: Now. 00:33:15 Speaker 5: I'm not, by the way, share I'm not thinking about the Arkansas game until after the Tennessee game. 00:33:19 Speaker 4: Yeah, well I'm not because. 00:33:20 Speaker 5: I know everybody wants to talk about cal in the Arkansas game, and we're gonna have plenty of time to do that on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. 00:33:26 Speaker 3: They need to win this Tennessee game tomorrow, but. 00:33:28 Speaker 4: This Tennessee game is first. 00:33:31 Speaker 5: Tennessee is objectively a bigger rival to us now this year. The unique circumstances make us want to beat Arkansas more. 00:33:41 Speaker 4: But you know, Drew, we've had some success at Tennessee. 00:33:43 Speaker 5: We've sometimes had success at Tennessee even when we were coming in having been terrible. Matter of fact, I think in the last few years, I think we won like twice there, coming off really bad losses where we thought our team wasn't good, and then we went down there and won. 00:33:58 Speaker 4: That's happened I think twice. 00:34:01 Speaker 8: Yeah, it's actually been pretty good at Tennessee. I usually make that trip. I remember one in particular a few years ago. Kentucky was a thirteen point favorite. I was dreading the game my entire drive down there. Next thing I know, CJ. Frederick is sticking out his tongue and Kentucky's up by ten on that Tennessee team. Last year they had a big game there. Reed Shepherd went off going against Dalton connect I think this is one of Rick barnes better teams he's had in a while. But Kentucky has found a way to go up against some of the balls best there lately. 00:34:28 Speaker 4: I think we've won our last two. 00:34:29 Speaker 5: You mentioned last year, and I think, wasn't it this game that Antonio Reeves He started playing Antonio Reeves two years ago, and he had a pretty good game. 00:34:38 Speaker 4: Am I right about that? Drew? 00:34:40 Speaker 8: That sounds about right? I know, like with the case of Frederick, they seem to always have a guy step up in those games too. Last year, I mean, we already knew about Shepard, but he was Unbeieva. Last we had close to thirty He couldn't miss threes. All my Tennessee friends or texted me, what the hell is this reed Shepherd guy? I mean he lit him up last season? 00:34:58 Speaker 4: Yeah, so maybe we could do it again. Court Physical Therapy. 00:35:01 Speaker 5: If you are being healthy and saving more money than on your New Year's resolutions, how about also getting rid of pain Kentucky and as leader in physical therapy for more than thirty years, it's court dot com. Make a lifestyle change towards better betterhealth with Court KRT dot com. Make yourself feel better with Court. We'll take a break and come back a couple of it. I know we lost, but guys, that doesn't mean you can't call in. We were full of calls during postgame show today. I guess when everybody's depressed, it's Monday morning. 00:35:30 Speaker 4: Give us a shout. This is Kentucky Sports Radio working back. It is the KSR. 00:35:38 Speaker 5: It's not I always used to the pregame postgame Shannon, you know the next storm court fine is a million dollars? Yeah, you know you still play Auburn in Nashville. 00:35:49 Speaker 4: A million dollars a lot of money. 00:35:51 Speaker 5: Do you think they set up grenades around the court if for that one to keep. 00:35:56 Speaker 2: The mind, and yeah, I like, yeah, I have to do something they can't pay. 00:36:02 Speaker 5: I'm not say they're gonna beat all but they probably won't. But they can't pay a million dollars. 00:36:06 Speaker 2: I'm not gonna go as far as grenades and mines, but I think maybe it's time to whip out the taser, maybe the cattle prods, you know, like the mounting used to carry around. 00:36:14 Speaker 5: They're gonna need more people in yellow shirts. They're gonna need to be bigger. But I don't really know what you do, right. You get that many people who want to come on, you're gonna have a hard time stopping them. 00:36:26 Speaker 6: You know, it's the year of the commodores. 00:36:28 Speaker 10: Man. 00:36:29 Speaker 7: The football team in Diego Pavia beat Alabama. They've beat Tennessee, Kentucky and a week apart. So let the let the kids eat, man, let them have a little fun. 00:36:38 Speaker 8: I think you got to build a moat around the court filled with alligators. 00:36:41 Speaker 3: I mean you got to go. 00:36:42 Speaker 10: To extreme here. 00:36:43 Speaker 8: Yeah, your budget is up to a million, because you're gonna lose a million if they do it. So spend seven hundred thousand buildings already spend a million. 00:36:52 Speaker 3: Run I got the money, Yeah, kids. 00:36:55 Speaker 5: Are gonna have to double the cost if they don't stop, if they they don't stop running on the court. 00:37:02 Speaker 4: By the way, you all were talking on the pre show shit about the SEC Tournament. Yeah, right, this SEC Tournament is it's gonna be so wild. 00:37:10 Speaker 5: And I don't know we've talked about this, but I don't know if people really focus on They're gonna be eight teams playing on Wednesday, and the team seeded ninth or whatever is gonna play on Wednesday, and that team's gonna. 00:37:24 Speaker 6: Be really good tournament team. Yeah. 00:37:27 Speaker 5: I mean right now we're tenth. If the SEC Tournament started today, we'd be playing on Wednesday and we're tenth. So the SEC Tournament, if you're just talking quality of basketball, this is the best it will ever be in my opinion. I mean, I was looking on the secondary sides. The cheapest full session SEC Tournament book I saw was nine hundred dollars, and that's not cheap, but when you consider you're gonna get fifteen games, probably thirteen of which we'll have great teams in it, it's actually probably one of the better prices you could get for that level of basketball that many games. 00:38:05 Speaker 7: Right, Yeah, the Wednesday night games like is usually Missouri. Last year they didn't have any wins. Usually, you know, they have to give away tickets, free tickets just to come fill the arena. 00:38:15 Speaker 6: Ain't gonna do that this year? This year, I would think, no. 00:38:18 Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know, I's playing Drew, but they're not gonna give away those. They're gonna give away the tickets Wednesday. 00:38:22 Speaker 5: When Kentucky might be playing, right, I mean, I can't imagine they do that. 00:38:26 Speaker 8: And they haven't done that in a while. I remember the last couple of years, Wednesday night was almost full. We used to joke about how you know you have the place to yourself? It was my favorite night here. 00:38:34 Speaker 5: Lately it's but it's only been like five dollars in recent years. 00:38:39 Speaker 2: That was the only way I could get into the building. They wouldn't credential me. We know that much. 00:38:43 Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, by the way the things came out today, I'm not doing it. You're not even gonna apply. 00:38:49 Speaker 2: Why am I wasting my time? 00:38:52 Speaker 5: Maybe you get it this year. Remember I went and argued for you. Maybe you get it this year. 00:38:56 Speaker 2: You've been arguing for years for me. 00:38:58 Speaker 5: But he but I did itesday this time, he said, you can argue early, So if you'll apply, I'll put in the argument early. 00:39:05 Speaker 4: If you want to face you do it. 00:39:08 Speaker 3: Yes, let's go. I get it. 00:39:09 Speaker 5: I'll do it, mark my words. 00:39:12 Speaker 2: Though, if I don't get credential this year or never ever apply for an SEC credential, Okay, I'm enough. 00:39:21 Speaker 5: This is it and I'll say that to him. It's now or never for Shannon Gregsy. He may one day end up the headacher on the ESPN. It's now or never. If you want to make. 00:39:31 Speaker 6: Sure you put Shannon the dude Griggsby. 00:39:33 Speaker 3: You always make that. I always put Griggsby. I never put the dude. 00:39:36 Speaker 4: They don't know you, dude. He literally said he needs to put the dude on there. 00:39:42 Speaker 3: Are you being serious? 00:39:43 Speaker 6: Do you really want yes? 00:39:44 Speaker 5: I think you need to put it on there because they don't know who. They don't know who Shannon Griggsby is. Shannon put the dude in quotation Marks Grigsby. 00:39:53 Speaker 4: Okay, that's the way to do it. 00:39:55 Speaker 5: And plus that'll be the only one to get like that, so they'll know who's up next. 00:40:00 Speaker 4: Carl the dude git mad Dog. 00:40:02 Speaker 2: When he tries to apply for credentials, does he put mad dog on it. 00:40:06 Speaker 4: I think he has to. He has to put a mad dog. All right, Chris, go ahead, Chris. 00:40:11 Speaker 9: Say, Matt, good morning. I got a suggestion for the court storming solution. Uh ten or twenty percent? Babies, say, if we win this ahead of time, if we win this game against Kentucky or YadA, YadA, YadA, we're gonna take twenty percent of what the fine would be and throw a. 00:40:30 Speaker 5: Big party if you all show them. 00:40:34 Speaker 9: Yeah, no, you think would people in attendants? 00:40:37 Speaker 4: You think I would? 00:40:38 Speaker 10: I think so. 00:40:39 Speaker 9: And then the next time, if it's a hat would have been a half a million, it's one hundred thousand dollars party. 00:40:45 Speaker 4: It's interesting. And the idea, the idea. 00:40:48 Speaker 9: Okay, I got thought. 00:40:51 Speaker 4: Okay, real quick, real quick, if you don't mind. 00:40:54 Speaker 9: I'm thinking of the dipotomy between Cal and the pope. And sometimes I wonder, like, I think, these guys he's so analytical, where or Cal would just roll the ball out? 00:41:09 Speaker 4: Okay, no count to Wednesday, No calend to Wednesday. I appreciate it. 00:41:12 Speaker 5: No, no, yea, it is no count to Wednesday. Appreciate you call. We're not doing cow or analyt. We're no cow to Wednesday. I want to go back to this party. Shannon, you are a nerdy bandy fan. If you if you were in the student section and they have a million dollars, fine, if the if the a D said we'll throw one hundred thousand dollars party, if you all will not storm the court, are you in no? 00:41:41 Speaker 3: Because that is my party right there? That's the party. 00:41:44 Speaker 4: Okay, we don't want true you are a UK student. 00:41:48 Speaker 5: To you, well, we'll throw one hundred that Wait a minute, you didn't storm a cord a UK. 00:41:53 Speaker 4: You storm filled out one hundred thousand dollars party. If you don't storm, you think you all could talk yourself into that. 00:42:01 Speaker 8: I would say that's awesome, you cheap ass. I can have a million dollar party if we're winning by storming the court. 00:42:08 Speaker 4: So I guess Tanner's idea is not going to work. 00:42:11 Speaker 6: I promise. 00:42:13 Speaker 8: I think you got to go higher on the cost of the party. Now half a million. I'll listen to you, but that doesn't sound like much of a party. 00:42:19 Speaker 4: How you gonna have a half million dollar part? 00:42:22 Speaker 3: Project? 00:42:23 Speaker 4: Spend a million? 00:42:24 Speaker 8: Then if you don't want to have a party, what do you get? 00:42:27 Speaker 6: Bobby Bone dominate. 00:42:29 Speaker 8: Bergazzi for a half a minute, so. 00:42:31 Speaker 5: You could get a band or something school. You're exactly right, all right, we'll come back out number two ks R
