Speaker 2: Hope you had a great weekend. Gangs all here ready to go. The lovely and talented Todd, Fritz Seaton, Marv Paulie, yours truly, and the backroom guys. A lot of football to chop up. Baseball golf. Eagles over the Buccaneers, and Chiefs handled the Ravens, Rams over the Cold Steelers beat the Vikings, and we had a tie last night. I think that's the highest scoring tie in the history of the NFL. There's a tie that I believe it was forty three forty three in the AFL, and it might have been with the Boston Patriots, if memory serves me correctly. But in the history of the NFL, forty to forty is the highest tie in history. Football coming up tonight, the Jets are on the road but only a two and a half point underdog against the Dolphins, and the Bengals are getting seven and a half at the Broncos. I was thinking about the Bengals after watching what the Ravens did the Browns and the Steelers. The Steelers are going to have another winning record. I don't think they're a dominant team, but they could steal the division. If you look at the Ravens, that defense has been terrible, and even with Lamar Jackson in in Kansas City, they were getting blown out. Now he may have an injury that'll keep him out for a little while, which brings me to tonight. The Bengals might be wasting a year. If you have a chance to go out and get Kirk Cousins or Russell Wilson, he's going to give you a better chance because now if I look at the division, the Ravens don't feel like Super Bowl contender anymore. You got the Steelers, who are are going to be good. I don't think they're great, but they're beatable. And then you have the Browns. But if I'm the Bengals, you signed up everybody, your best defender, your best receivers, everybody's under contract. If you got a quarterback in there who could be an upgrade, you could steal that division. And Jake Browning is not played well. I think that they're confident with him. I don't think they want to spend the money either. With Kirk Cousins Russell Wilson, you could probably have. You know, maybe it's a fifth round pick or a sixth round pick, but you could get him. And if you're the Giants, you like what you saw with Jackson Dart and you got Jameis Winston as his backup. But I was wondering about that. If you're the Bengals, do you survey now that division? Everybody's been outscored in that division and it doesn't seem we thought it was going to be a great division right now it's not. But take a shot. Do you want to waste another year? And Joe Burrow maybe could come back in the playoffs, maybe with that turf toe surgery. But I was thinking about that that that might be something. If you're the Bengals, Okay, you know, we should kick the tires on this because we have a chance here, a lot better chance than people thought. All right, after what happened over the weekend, the Super Bowl odds updated by DraftKings. The Bills are the favorites, followed by the Eagles, Packers and Ravens are tied, and then closely behind is the Lions and then the Chiefs. Interesting that the Chiefs now feel like, okay, you get Xavier Worthy back and all of a sudden, because that offense wasn't very threatening. Now all of a sudden, you'd give Mahomes a playtoy. Rashid Rice will be coming back soon. Now we're going to get a true sense of is Kansas City still that elite team or one of those elite team teams? The Chargers they charged you were three to oh, and this is you know, you go west coast to East coast, you have an early call time, you're going against a rookie, and thought Jackson Dart played well enough to keep them in the game, justin Herbert did not play well. And you know it's three and oh against Owen three. That was the surprising part of that that the the Giants are the first oh and three team to beat a three and oh team since two thousand and eight. But if you look at this, if you're a Giants fan and you go, okay, we didn't like our quarterback situation. All of a sudden, maybe Jackson Dart is our future. And although they lost Molik Neighbors, he's probably gone for the season. You got a really good defensive line got rookie contracts here. I mean the neighbors thing is big because he's a great receiver. And when I saw him go down, I thought, uh oh, I got an acl here. But Jackson Dart athletic enough keep things alive. He's got enough swag. You know, he's not afraid. And I like what I saw him, so did his head coach. Here's Brian Dable talking about Jackson Dart.

Speaker 3: Look, I got a lot of confidence in our rookie quarterback. But he's a rookie quarterback, so there's going to be mistakes that be made. We know that there'll be more next week. There was some this week. It's not going to be perfect. Kid's a competitor. I'm sure he'll be the first one to tell you there's a lot that he can do better. We got to continue to help him do it better.

It was like, man, that was good. You know I'd like to have a nice piece of carrot cake. Oh I'm sorry, we don't have dessert. Forty to forty and it was fun. I thought the Cowboys were going to win the game. We had a semi streaming party last night with Shyan Irving and Dylan Marv was here and I said to Shay, hey, you should feel good. I think the Cowboys is going to win this game. Go Danny, and I go, no, I do I think They're going to win? And then at halftime Dylan and Shay were like, do you really believe? I said, yes, I think the Cowboys are gonna win the game. And then they were going to take the halftime odds. I don't know what they bad or you know, if anybody won anything. But we were watching and I thought, Okay, they stood that first quarter or so, and then I thought, all right, they're they're answering back. And if I'm a Packer fan, my defense is supposed to be great. It wasn't great. Dallas's defense is bad, and we knew that worse than bad? What is what is worse than bad?

Somebody needs to tell Golden this ain't Missouri, this ain't college. You can get away those things when you're returning a kick or he got rocked on that play, absolutely crushed. What are you doing spinning? I know he did a little purowett and then he also caught a path and then he tried to go, you know, like I'm gonna reverse field, and I go, you can't get away with that.

So it's fourth and fourteen, and it appeared that they didn't even consider going forward on fourth and fourteen. Why don't you go for the win there if you're the Packers. Now, I gues it's a horrible defense.

Speaker 2: Yeah, you got to come out with something. You can't come out with a loss. That's too far to go for fourth down. I know it's the Cowboys, but I and you're supposed to go for the win on the road, but it's got to And I don't know what the analytics would say with that, and maybe it says no certain yardage you don't or certain place on the field. I don't know that, but I understood what they were doing. I didn't like that they were going to do that, but that's just me as a fan. You can't come out with a loss. You can't put up forty and come away with the loss. And I think if you're Green Bay, you got some work to do here. And I don't think we thought that after we saw what they did to Detroit, and Detroit all of a sudden has come back and I mean, granted they're playing the Browns. We don't know what we have with Minnesota. I think that's another one to keep an eye on, because you know this isn't JJ McCarthy yet. Carson Wentz is a good backup quarterback, but he made some really bad mistakes late in the game. There the numbers are deceiving there. But now you got to wonder JJ McCarthy, you're going to be able to play and you know, injury prone. That's a good team. They're ready to win. Now it's sort of like the Bengals that you know. Now you've got to find out do you bring in another quarterback? Are you comfortable with Carson Wentz. I don't know JJ McCarthy's time frame here, but watching that, I was like, I don't know, I'm not quite sure. All right, we'll come back. We'll get to our poll question. When we do special teams, O line, D line is just like, oh, okay, well we're just gonna whatever. Well, when you take it serious, you see what can happen, and when you are trying of bs and through it is. These are the things that can happen if you don't if you the end blocker on the end of field goal pro and you don't get your hand all the way out you've seen yesterday, they can knock your hand down and turn that corner on you. These are elite athletes, these are best athletes in the world. So if you're not taking this part serious, then this is what can happen. But you see how much the third phase of the football can change the game.

So that's similar to shooting free throws. You're sitting here. These free throws are crucial, So I need to make these free throws, you know what I'm saying, or get a get a you know, a timely block like what Lebron did, So I would I would correlate it to situations like that.

It was already top ten defense. They were twenty second in pressure rate. So you go out, you address the need. You bring in the guy who's led the league in pressure since he set foot in the NFL. Of course your pass rush is going to be better. But what happened They won two games that they were favorite to win at home. Everybody's like, oh, look at what they're doing. Paying attention to what happened. They had a Sunday game. They played a Thursday game at home. They didn't have to travel. All they had to do was just go and roll into it with the regular operation.

How are they jumping to the Eagles? How are they jumping Buffalo? How are they jumping on these people? And that's why I said, we can't just put them above Philly when we've seen Philly be tested. We haven't seen Green Bay be tested for us to be saying they're the best. What happened as soon as they hit the road. They lost to Cleveland. Now we've just seen them hit the road. I thought that they were gonna blow Cowboys up. I think most of America thought that this was going to be a blowout game.

Speaker 12: So this is why I always say, you can't crown people super early. You gotta let the season play up. I have a philosophy you do not know who's who until about week nine of the season. Then you start seeing like some consistency. Okay, this is what they can do, this is what they can't do. Okay, we've seen that. This is kind of like because I remember one time we seen in Pittsburgh Still is going eleven and oh, but everybody was like, I don't know, that's kind of like a that's a fluff eleven and oh, that's not a real eleven and oh team. So you know, you gotta let the see them play out. But I haven't been sold on Green Bay after two weeks, like most people were.

Speaker 12: To push the ball outside, outside the numbers and make throws where he has to make throws outside the numbers. And that's all Kansas City did yesterday. They made him make throws outside the numbers. And then you get exact. You're worthy back. You score points. You can't depend always depend on your offense to score points like this every day. Look at what the Philadelphia Eagles did. They are finding different ways to win. They won yesterday. The offense wasn't great, but what they do they got to score on special teams and the defense was lights out.

Speaker 12: Okay, the Chiefs over the past three years have been a lot of people say carried by the defense. But as long as fifteen is taking the snaps, they're good. As long as Andy Reeves calling the players, they're good. We have to look at all the revolving door of the offensive line. Now they got the off of the line of place and the first three weeks Patrick Mahomes as great as he is, he's not Lamar Jackson. He can't be leading your team in rushing. He can't do that. We're they able to do yesterday. They're able to run the ball one player. One player changed everything. They put a Davie Worthy back in the lineup and it opened up the entire offense. They were able to do so many different things. Well, you're gonna watch back and watch them. With the field of the Eagles. The Eagles were being overly aggressive with the Kansas City Chiefs water receivers because they weren't afraid of anybody getting open. They weren't afraid of getting beat deep downfield, so they were being overly aggressive. Well, you bring Davie Worthy back and look at everything opens up. Okay, I understand it was the Baltimore Ravens defense, but it's not just about.

Speaker 12: Patrick Mahomes didn't look under durest. He didn't look like he was pressing. Get the ball out both, get the ball out here and Zay be Worthy here, get open, beat over the top. So now what they're gonna do is they're gonna get healthy and then they're gonna get a sheet rice back and then this is where we start to see. Okay, the defense is in place. That's one thing we haven't had to worry about Kansas City.

Speaker 12: Worried about Kansas City if the defense was bad. The defense hasn't been bad. The defense has been in place. They just haven't been able to put up points like they normally do. Well, now they're going to start scoring points, and once they get their whole group back, then we're gonna start seeing the Kansas City that feared everybody again. So I think Kansas City is legit. That's why I was never worried about them losing those couple of games, because they lost to the Chargers who hit the ground running.

Speaker 12: He says he would switch it up, and then he would he would have different colors, and then he would kill kill, Kill, he's doing a lot at the line, so you never know what's going to happen. Cam Newton Ready White Lady. He never would snap right on that. He would switch. He would switch it up. Matt Ryan would switch as up. When you go against he's it. That's why Peyton say, oh maha, everybody thought the ball was coming. He said, omaha, no it wasn't. So when you have a rookie, you know after a few snaps after he say this, and he said, is the boss coming? Because he's not. He has so much other things to worry about. He can't manipulate the snapcount yet. Aaron Rodgers had a phenomenal snap camp. They can manipulate the snap camp because they've done so much other things for so long. The snapcount is just something that they add to their repertoire. And they're too bad rookies, you just especially if they if you at home, Oh it's rookies are the easiest people to jump the snap camp. They're not changing nothing because they don't. It's not it's not. It's too much going on up here. They trying to see, especially if your comfort is doing all this, and then if I know what I played, if I'm playing a rookie. Their coaches told him that guy right there, make sure you keep your eyes on him. So now I know he's not gonna switch a snap camp because he's seeing all this, but he knows I'm sitting right here too, and Miles Garrett is over there. No rookie is gonna look and see Miles Garrett and be thinking about it. Let me switch the snapcamp. They can be thinking, all right, Miles is right here. Let me But that's what rookies, so, you know. So that's the difference. It's not that they sound like rookies, is they're not gonna manipulate the snack camp like the vets will.

Speaker 12: Aaron Rodgers? Uh, Aaron Rodgers was green at so when he would when he would when his was so aggressive that you lose sight of all the other things that's taking place. And that's why he caught so many people with that free play. He was phenomenal with. Aaron Rodgers is phenomenal at it's catching people on the field with twelve men. He's he's great at catching people subbing. So that's what you gotta be careful with him as your subs. If you're gonna sub as soon as the play is over, you got to make sure you know who's coming in and who's coming out. You cannot be getting off the field. And then you just gotta be patients, especially when they're at home. When they're at home is when he gives everybody. If you go back and look, well he was in Green Bay when they were at home is when he got most of those free plays because it sat count is so aggressive and he could catch you off guard. Speaker 2: Ohio State going to Washington, and I thought it was going to be more of a game. I really thought Washington would put up a better test. But does it say more about Ohio State or Washington, Well, it says a lot about Matt Patricia first. First of all, we've known that Ryan Day has this chameleon ability to see what the opponent can do and then adjust a game plan without thinking about his offensive numbers. When you have a guy like Jeremiah Smith, you've got to get him the ball. But he doesn't worry about getting Jeremiah Smith the ball. He worries about making the game go in the direction that he wants to with his best chance to win. And he just basically suffocated Demon Williams. They had played this cage technique, wouldn't let him get out at halftime. He had zero yards rushing, and that takes a huge piece of Jetfish's offense away from him. So I think Matt Patricia has adapted to college football beautifully. I know it is a big story when Jim Knowles left, but Patricia is really doing a great job at Ohio State. Is there a great team in college football?

I think as long as they get to ten and two, they're going to be a college football playoff team and then it's again seating. But there's going to be always this shadow and this cloud hanging over both the quarterback and the head coach until they fix it.

I just think that they see enough good that what are we going to do? It's incredible they keep wearing that white.

I was worried about the fact that they gave up so many yards rushing. They were, you know, came into this game against LSU giving up one hundred and ninety yards a game on the ground without necessarily a formidable schedule. We'll wait and see, but that was a Yeoman effort. And now the hot seats Brian Kelly because those those folks in the boy you don't like not having This was supposed to be a really good offense right with nuss Meyer and coming back, and it just isn't. The defense has been fixed, but the offense now is not coming along for the ride.

He's a little guy, he's not not a big guy, and yet you can't help but love him. And Clark Lee saw this goes back to when he was with Jerry Kill at New Mexico State. They went into Auburn and beat Auburn thirty one to ten and beat him like soundly. Right, but it was not an accident, wasn't a bunch of turnovers, just soundly. So Clark Lee, who's losing his team to the transfer portal, looks around and says, I got to get I got to have New Mexico State come here and basically brought them all. Jerry Kill, the quarterback, the offensive coordinator, the wide receiver coach, the quarterback coach, all come to Vanderbilt. He gives the offense to them, and they have been brilliant. They're averaging forty nine points a game. This game in Tuscaloosa is one of the big games of the weekend. I can't wait till watch it.

I think that there should be a little bit more protection for West Coast teams that are traveling, and maybe you say it can only happen once a year. But the bottom line is you're right, it only looks like you're whining and that's not a good look for Lincoln, whose team was off to a good start and just a couple of ill advised turnovers in this game were the difference. But it was a great job. A great job, but Bielama to get his team off the mat after being bludgeoned by Indiana the week previous.
