Hey everyone, It's Tuesday, February eighth, twenty eleven, and you're listening
to the Giant Bobcast top your host Ryot Davis, Vidi Caravella. Check at
his watch, I said it was February the eighth. Yeah, eighth,
the eighth of February. Eighth of February. Jeff Gerseman, what up,
dude? Nothing? I don't know. Hey, Hi, how's going?
That's going? Okay, that's cool. Today is the eighth. It's the
eighth, Brad Mcker, do you agree let we get back to you on
that. We're not talking about it. I think about what day it is
just yet. And we be looking out of the side of my face the
entire time because we have a new computer that we're trying to record this podcast
special fifth Chair this week. Why do you have your laptop here still?
Because because I still need to quit. I still need this for emails.
Did you even check these microphones? What do we do? Yeah? We're
good hand. Were you quit talking out of the side of your face?
This is no. The problem is that every time that I would go check
email or look at a web browser on the machine that recording on it would
it would lock up, so I remember that. Yeah, isn't isn't this
the iMac that died? Yeah? And yet we feel safe recording a podcast?
Well it's been it's been resurrected, been restoring Smith test dot com.
Will Smith brought this computer back from the grade. Like I said, do
you feel safe recording a podcast? Will Smith? Then? No, I
thought it was I thought it was the eighth. I thought it was February
the eighth. Welcome to Smith exactly, A sorry up to it rip,
roaring start. I get to watch monitor wave for hims go by. Yeah,
don't you don't be distracted by that. You sit there and just look
at that. How does my laugh look pretty cool? A few people know
I can laugh on a perfect sign wave. Oh mat, you just need
to post the wave for him with this podcast along on your wave for him.
You can see the funny bits coming right. Oh, they laugh a
lot right here, you can tell. I mean that's how I edit it.
Does I scrub through and I'm like a lot of stuffs happening here?
What's ups? He very cla great? What have you been playing? How
you doing doing? All right? Next segment? All right? Seen going
to the next thing. What have I been playing. You turn the tables
on me else. Super Bowl? You ever go to the Super Bowl.
I've never been to the Ship Bowl, super Bowl, you guys go to
the big game football. I've never been to a professional football game. I'm
your football like little league football. Now you gotta like, you know,
like local college games or whatever. Like I've been to those, to a
Panther's game once. How was that? Oh wait, not memorable? I
went to an Arena League game once. Oh man, what was it sound
as these SaberCats? Sure that sounds right. I think that was the team
that was entertaining as shit. I have to say, is that the XFL?
Or is that something different? That's something different? Okay, that's AFL.
Yeah, it's the arena league. Arena League had like basically like no
sidelines. It's just like constant action. It's a smaller field. So there's
the football's actual bombot ball is actually it's it's it is an actual hand egg.
It can't it can't. These robots, like a dude would like,
came out before the game on a motorcycle and there were fireworks inside the stadium,
smoke and Bill am Beer punched a bear in the Dick. It was
awesome combat basketball, the combattiest basketball it was. It was I had great,
We're like fifty yard line front row because it's the fucking Arena League.
It was on tank Tresh showed up with an extra fifteen cents, so I
got the good seats. Yeah, exactly. You see that like two thousand
people did not get seats. No, that's a lot of ships. Rage
out of the people that they were introducing us this morning was unbelievable. Well,
I mean, and so the thing, I guess the thing was that
like the seats just straight up weren't done. Oh they could. That's what
I had heard was I mean, that's a that's a brand new stadium,
Okay, and I imagine they have never had a need to fill every single
seat in the place. Like it was like Sunday morning and they're like,
funk, what are we doing today? Oh shit, oh today the Super
Bowls today. Oh. I don't think it's it's excusable at all, for
sure, Like, how do you let it get to that point where you're
selling tickets? And they were and then they were saying, like you know,
they'll have the option of getting another seat or go or getting their money
back, and I'm like, well, if you got other seats? What?
Yeah, well you're talking about I saw. I saw a little less
than half of those people did get seats eventually, but the people who didn't
were provided twenty four hundred dollars a piece. How much does the super Bowl
ticket three eight? I think unless you bought it from a scalper for fifteen
grand, you know, crazy, Well that's yeah, your your fault there,
right, I guess such for you. They also so take it take
to watch it outside right and in like front of the stadium on a big
screen TV. They definitely have screens and people were under head lamps. Concourse,
I watched it. Fun way to watch it, huh. I watched
it at my at a home on a television and it was all right,
yeah, yeah, it worked out. I didn't have to go to Dallas.
They black it out, which is really that that was the big selling
point on watching the super Bowl, Like I was gonna go, but then
I would have would have had to have gone to Dallas. I thought,
I'll just I'll just watch this from home. I wat I only watched a
little little itty bit of it, and I watch quake con from home.
No, will the NFL be broadcasting quake con you know, yeah maybe.
I Mean the NFL network is pretty barren from here until it's gonna say,
what's that channel gonna do? Like what what do they show? Apparently they
re show every single football game in a one hour digest format. Wow,
really from from the previous season yea? Or just random old games like from
the previous like here you go, that'd be great, just Titans just to
they do that too. I think, just just to name drop my from
the familial Super Bowl connection again, somebody just finally found a recording or that
game one from Super Bowl one or two. Well, I felt like there
was no existing recording until like somebody found one in a reenactments tape something that
recorded this when it was on. My dad was telling me about the first
Super Bowl because he lived in LA and uh that's where they had it and
they did not since they did not or they did not fill the stadium,
so they had a local blackout on even back then. Yeah wow yeah,
so uh so there, I guess there was all this, all these things
at the time, and this is something that you know, we've heard of
at least until you know, earlier parts, but people selling like here's a
we've got the special antenda will sell you that will let you receive the game,
like all of this crazy snake oil bullshit, like there's no there's there's
no signal. I mean they black it out. There's just no, it's
not They just don't broadcast it unless you have a crazy antenna that can pick
up signals from like three states over. And maybe that was the notion.
I don't know, but I don't know. Hey, football, right,
guys. Yeah, that was the part where it kind of fell apart for
me, was the part where there was football, like the Pizza Rolls parts.
Yeah, the Pizza Rolls part. And you know, you know me
big black eyed peas fan and uh and yeah a big fan of Jamie Fox.
So seeing him interviewed for his hit movie Rio, that was good.
That was the thing. Oh man, The pregame blows away anything that happens
football if you if you want to, if you are a fan of branding
and bad comedy and the declaration and no this, yeah yeah, leading up
to that, but yeah, look no further than the Pizza Hut pregame show
brought to you by Pizza hut, because holy smokes, it was some of
the you know, it's like, really, you guys just are so busy
you can't do a second take of this bit. Fox Sports analyst announcer guys
just Terry Bradshaw just just pizzas delicious, all these guys looking like they rolled
out of bed and put on suits and showed up all puffy eyed to do
these mind blowingly bad reads of poorly written comedy related to pizza man, Nobody
the trade babies, nobody wears a suit like a sports commentator. It's true,
tell you. It was a goddamn comedy tragedy. Oh man, it
sounds pretty funny, though, Dude. I almost had to almost stopped watching.
It was like I can't deal with I've already like had my phil I'm
already over the limit on America or whatever it was that that they were showing.
They were showing you. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I almost could
not watch any football. I couldn't help but kind of going fuck yeah.
When like at the end of the national anthem and the Jets fly over,
there's something about that. It's like, yeah, that's right, we're America.
We're the ones with the fucking jets. We were too busy like looking
up like, wait, those are not the words right? And I was
like what is fine? I was like, I'm like, what are you
talking about? She also introduced about eighteen thousand notes that were not in that
song, so she did release a statement. Yeah, she's like, uh,
whoops, sorry whatever, who's watching? I was too busy trying to
outsing the girl that was just on before me, who was younger and prettier,
some story that I I don't know, prettier. There was some story
that I read that Michael Bolton screwed up the same line or almost screw up
the same line. It's some basketball game called Curse. Yes, that's the
one. I bought so much frozen stuff? What did you get? What
you do? I actually didn't have any Tikato's. I don't remember. Chicken,
yeah, steak, maybe steak steak, cheese and hallowpenio poppers? What
kind of what kind of popper? From the TGI Fridays? There was the
cheddar? Was it the cream cheese? Okay? I didn't see cream cheese
and supermarkets cream cheese pizza bagels? Nice? Uh? And maybe something else
made the hallopanio poppers and that was it. So now you now your fridge
is just jam packed with stuff. I just can never so have another Super
Bowl, please because I have way too much frozen food in my fridge right
now. We have to just has to be another event that they call the
super Bowl of whatever that is. Yeah, this is the super Bowl of
south Park reruns. Great, this is the super Bowl of Chili cookoffs.
All right, cook it up? Yeah, I have all this food,
let's eat it. Uh So I felt so sick after eating about twenty because
I bought sixty ALLOPENI pop Jesus christ Man. They come in big box.
I thought they came in pretty sure. Where were you were you gonna go
into the Costco? Maybe it was more like thirty felt like was that an
entire pepper per piece? Yeah? So it was pretty stuffed, a lot
of food. It was just bad idea, it's poor. And so before
that I had also gone through a bag of Doritos and a thing like bake
Lays baked ridges, so I just had I felt I lost the super Bowl.
I couldn't. I didn't win. Way to go and then if the
job farve dead space, so it was like, yeah, which is gross
with Hallopenio popper hands. Second, Yeah, you feel like a necromorph for
eating a bunch of Hallopenio poppers. Tell you something. They're changing me from
the inside. Uh, to video games. I don't know, video games,
video games, video games, football, Black Eyed peas, football,
video games, football game Black Eyed Peas. Oh, they're like a video
because they're broken at launch. You watch them. We thought that stellar performance.
How was it? It was? It was. It was a fucking
shit show and holy god, damn bad about it. It was like some
some people behind the scenes, if they had if this was not a contract
gig, then they got fired. Yeah this is some place where they were
gainfully employed, then they are probably not so like like technically yeah, like
the ever whoever was mixing the audio for that show, Yeah, like it
was. It was like it was like, oh God, this person's mic
isn't on and she's singing and we need to turn it up. The first
the first moment that Fergs mike was not on, which was five seconds,
and I got up and walked out of the room. Really, there was
that like the back You're not going to sit there and watch a subpar Black
Eyed Obviously backing track was way too quiet. There was like they had this
big giant light up love on the field where like half of the v didn't
light up correctly just and whoever Corey drafted. I mean, you know,
it had its moments of and you know there's like a bunch of people on
the field with their light up suits and like the connect event. But yeah,
like like somehow less cultish, yeah, and that stuff worked. But
then the whole like choreography of the actual show is here's four people standing there
leaning forward as it's time to shout their lines, shouting their lines, and
then leaning back so the other guy can lean forward and shout his lines.
And then there are two guys that are in the group. But that's they
just kind of are there to hang out. And that's a pretty cool deal
for them because they got to go to the super Bowl for free. They
had to they had to air drop in Usher to save the performance point at
some point he comes in the middle. They had to have Slash come up
from the ground. The worst came up and even play the song that the
girl from Back Eyed Peas and Slash did together. They said, oh,
let we just do sweet Shot of Mine. Like they're a little bit a
little bit just enough, so she did the most half asked snake dance.
I was bad. It was really wait, how did you see that?
Mister? I walked away? I heard I heard the sweet strains walk back
in there long enough to quickly vomited. I don't think she's very good.
It's it was. It wasn't a good it was not the best. And
then also the thing for me was I'm watching the game with my dad,
you know, mid fifties, late fifties dad, and he's like what he
just he just didn't understand why. It was like what is this? Who
is this for? And then I kind of realize, like, I don't
know, I can't really explain it. Like the the existence and mass popularity
of the Bad Black Eyed Peas, if you actually sit and try and think
about it is just is baffling. It is It is a difficult thing to
really come to terms with, like what like what are they? What do
they do? It's just kind of just like like what like what is the
value? What kind of music do they make? Don't they have a new
album out? Yeah, but yet they came out with the same songs they've
been playing, Well, they didn't. That's what you do with the super
Bowl. Actually, I'm not trying to sell the records. Yeah, sure,
I the Black Eyed Peas at some point we'd be getting up. I
mean they had, they had, they had. There was a time when
they were a rap group. There was a time that they made hip hop,
but that time is long, long ago. No, they just altered
the perceptions of what hip hop be an energy drink, right, Yeah,
Yeah, I don't know, it's there. I can appreciate them on some
sort of like this is just the craziest thing they could have come up with
level of music making where it's just like, yeah, I don't know,
we're gonna auto tune that, we're gonna overproduce the ship out of everything as
much as we possibly can. Yeah, and and we're also we're gonna rip
all of our hooks from the most popular songs of the last twenty years and
that'll just that'll be it. That'll be the album. Yeah, there's a
song that the whole hook is them singing I'm at the time of my life
from like that's the like disco Robot bullshit on top of it, which is
you know it has its play. I like disco Robot bullshit, And the
way that they do it is sometimes appealing as long as they're there's no vocals.
It's that's where it falls apart, where you're just like, man,
you guys are terrible. And so the problem with the mixing is that with
all the audio low, they were actually you know, singing, which,
to their credit, you know, live auto tune like all that stuff,
like you know, technical wizardry and some actual performance. But yeah, when
you put their voices that much louder than the background mix, you're like,
man, this is the worst thing ever. Right, And then and them
selling it as we're standing here four wide just giving it to you for most
of it, like without any like it got like a little more choreographed at
the end when it was like came out. His whole thing was totally choreographed.
He had dancers on stage with him. He was jumping. Yeah,
But when it's just like four people standing there just like belting it out and
not doing it well, like, man, this is pretty much I would
have to imagine that this is coming off as a negative thing for them in
the long run, But I mean, you're right, it's it's like their
songs live and die by being crazily overproduced in the studio. You take that
out of that context, like wow, and then what are you people even
doing? So really the mic wasn't turned on at first. Yeah, that's
kind of a shame. I mean, I'm not wanting to talk, sure,
but but you're you're also you're also not producing the super Bowl at the
same time. I think it's a goddamn miracle that every single year the super
Bowl halftime show doesn't explode like the circumstances that you're trying to produce that show
under of we need to build this makeshift stage in four minutes and then they're
going to perform on it for seven and then we need to take it apart.
Yeah, that's pretty crazy where it's like, Okay, this giant football
game is happening, and that's what everyone's here for, but we also need
to do this crazy thing in the middle. So you you are not the
drawin of for some reason, because we can't because we did it last year,
because we have because because so the other thing is, prior to the
show, they had the tailgate party and they had a bunch of bands playing
on that and you think, like, you know, like people waiting to
see a football game, like there's probably like particular music that you might think
would like get a crowd hip justin Bieber, get a crowd hyped up like
some credence, some you know, like some Hank the Third or you know,
like I don't know, some metal or you know, something with some
edge to it. And then they come out and it's like here's Keith Urban
and then they closed with Maroon five, like here's two songs from Roon five.
They're not gonna play the whole song. And this guy's just kind of
gonda like shuffle back and forth on the stage like he doesn't really want to
be there. And then they kept cutting the crowdshots of people just like doing
that thing where they're like we're here because they said it was a television show,
but I don't where the camera. Just the game start and they're not
even really looking at the camera. They're just kind of like staring at the
stage like no one bobbing their head, just stoic silence of this is a
great performance. Those are popular music acts America. So I'm told, yeah,
sure, absolutely, you know, and I have to give them credit
for the halftime show having an act on it that is like relevant. Say
what you will about the quality of the Black Eyed Peas they are. I
think, now that's that's a flaw. I think going for relevance is poor
decision making. I think you need to go for if someone's dad needs to
be able to recognize that band, put you two up on that stage.
Just just put put someone up there. Oh, put someone up there.
They can perform live Well yeah, well yeah, I agree with that.
But you know it's someone who look at the past few years of just like
the Boss, that was a great one. I guess Paul McCartney was good.
We need to remind you about Prince. Prince was great. But you
know it was like ever since the whole justin Timberlake Jane Jackson thing, everyone
got real scared and it's like, how about the Who? How about the
Who? Guys, they're not gonna you can count on the Who. They're
not gonna flash their bing ball. So I mean that's that's the problem.
That they're gonna go back to safe because it was yeah, the kid and
they clusterfucked. So I guess who's gonna do it next year? Who was
Rolling Stones? Well, we'll have the Rolling Stones on next year. There'll
be one hundred thousand years old. No whatever with I mean the level of
branding is such that next year it'll just be a half episode of Glee stuck
into the middle of it and Jane Lynch's gonna come out and they're gonna do
that King's a Leon song, whether the King's Leon won him two or not,
because art for the kids, all right, Vinnie, Yeah, dead
Space two, talking sports here, dead Space two. I didn't get to
dead Space too, so I made it to made it through dead Space ignition.
The whole thing. Wait, that's the downloadable game. That is the
downloadable motion comic puzzle something something that was mighty is the downloadable waste of money
that is not good? Yeah, put you unlock stuff from you. You're
the king, the the unchallenged king, throwing bad money after go through goodt
good money after bad money after bad No, no, this is bad money
after good because that's that's good money. That's good. So where's my bad
money? It's the money it's gone. You spent it, well, I
would you spend it on Dead Rising two costumes and Dead Space two. But
I mean like the Mass Effect two iPhone game, Yeah, playing that to
completion. Yeah, for the dumb nothing that you get in the game.
I got a dialogue line or something. It was worth it. Uh.
So that one, that one justified it. Maybe this one was just kind
of a little infuriating. I just did not really enjoy my time through that.
One of those games where you just want it to end so badly.
You're just I just want this to be over. Uh. And then I
played a good one, which was a dead space extraction and HD HD and
I've played that alongside my little brother who's in town, so we got to
play that with two people, which is fun. You're playing the PSP vers.
Yes, on the Move, I bought a move. Nice, I
now have a move, and I get I stand behind the move technology as
a move owner now as the designer of the move. Yeah, as as
someone who now owns the move. Uh. And I've spent some time with
it because it comes with the sports games that Sports Champions, Sports Champions.
I'm gonna say I'm out of the motion race. I'm backing that horse.
On the Move. Okay, that is the one I've had the most fun
with so far, more than the WE and the Connect. So I feel
like both of those, like wait, it's it's it's still it's still obviously
way too early, but it's like I feel like, like for as many
units as both have said they've sold, I feel like there's no toe hold
in the software. I feel like, yeah, there's nothing to play on
it, like, yeah, there's not even anything to I don't know.
It's it's always like and this this game. We've bolted support for the move
on too, so you probably don't want to play. No, it's what's
it's why it's good that Sony has supported that with some downloadable stuff. Absolutely,
some little crazy stuff that's been the best move. It's been the best
stuff I've seen for the move and it's definitely it's a huge blond spot for
Microsoft. Uh yeah. But it was fun, like I don't know,
the Sports Champions stuff, like the sword and shield thing, like the gladiator
thing. It was like it was kind of cool. Uh and then some
of the other stuff was kind of goofy, but dead space extraction uh yeah,
So it was really cool. And and the move works well because the
you know, I don't know how it was on the way, but I
assume very much. Says but you have a good fidelity on on your crosshair
and everything like that, and you know you twist to get the different the
all shot on the on the guns. The other problem I had was about
two spots during it the so you're on rails and you move on after you've
kind of killed guys or you die in that spot. So it's like it's
very much, very linear, and the pacing is out of your hands.
Two spots the camera moved somewhere and there were no enemies on screen, and
we couldn't advance. It just was hanging out, just kind of sitting there.
Yeah, and we're like, there must be a bad guy stuck in
a crate or like behind a wall or something that we're so we're just we're
just spamming every weapon we have, trying to blow up the entire room,
and we couldn't move. We had we had to stop it and reset it.
And then the terrible part about that is, like I said, the
pacings out of your hands. So fifteen minutes into a level, they don't
checkpoint you. You start each chapter from the star and so you're literally have
to you have to go back and replay all that stuff, and you can't
skip the cut scenes and you can't do any of that. You can't move
through it any faster. Yeah, just big one will always take you this
long, and you can't look around and look for other stuff. It's always
you know, the cameras fixed, and it's just not something you want to
repeat, like maybe we don't a year later immediately like that. That sucks.
So that really sucked, and so we kind of cut it short after
that part with Yeah, I think I think I've seen enough of it right
now. That's unfortunate because you were like thirty minutes from the end. It
sounds like Wede, we had made it pretty far, and it wasn't very
hard with two people. I don't know if it's harder with one. Uh.
And so I didn't get the dead space too, because I kind of
wanted to finish that good all my stuff together. You got dead space Salvage.
What's that? What's that? Dead space Martyr and space? I think
I already have dead space Martyr, so I can't keep tracking, uh,
mart Martyrs. The book O Salvage is the graphic novel. Well, I
thought you were starting to make stuff up. Those were those Those would be
pretty good fake call. Those properties all exist. The DLC is a dead
Space Severed. They all thought that they would have got to Severed already dead
Space Torso somebody, somebody come up with a dead Space property name Generate.
Wait are they Are they going to spell something out when we're all done?
Like Nicole isn't dead. It's a good question. But what order would you
put them in? Release? Release order? Dead space order? Uh?
Then I moved on. So my my little brother is in town, so
I got the play your little brother. He's he's good. Is he doing
it? Let's do it? Island coach take some some vacation laughs yeah,
yeah if he laughs the coast. Yeah, he's just crawling through events with
his shoes off. That's what I like. He's one of vacations. Yeah.
I watched die Hard too. Over the world Relax. I feel this
is making the right point to point that out. I want to start out
it's really good. Yeah, it's not bad. Tired too? Yeah?
Great this weekend? Did you back of a movie? Helen? Fuck?
Yeah. It kind of disintegrates and there's a point where you're either its or
I don't really know what you're like? Like, did I did I like
turn Away for too long? Because at this point I have just literally no
fucking idea what's going on. Also, the weird thing was I had only
seen bits and pieces of it and watched the whole thing all the way through,
and I was like, I mean, you know, trying to explain
it to my wife or my brother and be like, it's really weird and
be like, well, what kind of weird? And I was like,
it's really weird. And I was like, you know, it's like well,
She's like, is it intentionally weird? It's like yeah, it's like
it's not intentionally funny. It's like Kubrickian weird, but it's kind of like,
uh, it's kind of like a buckarubanzai ish weird but not really funny,
but like kind of makes no sense and like uh. And then so
like you know whatever, ten minutes in, everybody understands exactly where that movie
is. Okay, oh yeah, the floating head and the guns are good.
Penis is bad. Floating head of vomits guns, right. She That
was the first time that someone described to me. That's all They had to
standley, Oh yeah, yeah, that sounds pretty mard. So they put
that on the funny That's the part where like the rest of it doesn't live
up to the promise of the intro. I feel like there's a good scenes.
I think it's I think it's pretty strong for a while. But yeah,
there's there's a there's a turning point. My little brother lost it in
tears, just kind of oddly at the very very end with the weird time
lapse of Sean Connery and the woman sitting there getting older. Yeah, it's
turning it to skeleton just like literally, just like like connold it together,
just like I can see what that would be. Really, what is going
on like at the end of that journey. That's what they have to show
you, is it's really bad, like when everything like when there's the crazy
riots and everyone is all the mortals are going nuts. I'm like, what
is going on? Dud pop out of the trees, Like what's that?
Uh? That movie's weird. And so we looked it up on Wikipedia and
here's the here's the end of the story. Looked at hm in Wikipedia because
we were both like, I don't I think we must have missed something right?
Yeah, and no, whatever, all the plot points that everybody agrees
on they spell out exactly in that movie. That's it. Yeah, that
is it. There's no mystery there, there's no deeper meaning. It's it's
the movie. Is the movie, So to go watch Zara. I actually
think it's fantastic. Brain removed directly from your fucking dome. It could be
the weirdest movie I've ever seen. It's's it's pretty up there. Uh,
it's no die Hard too. It's like it's like it's like if it's like
if Stanley Kubrick directed Buckeru Bond's Eye. Yes, because it has that that
that British sci fi kind of feel to the product. Right, it's like
if Terry Gilliam and Stanley cru You got together. It's a little little Gilliam
and like dropped acid. And then it also just has this this bug fuck
crazy uh like production design, Like the look of that movie is just so
weird. Yes, yeah, Like, what's what's with this red leather diaper
that you're wearing? I saw zardas I stayed in San Francisco and stayed at
Dave's. Was the first time I stayed when Dave was still in the city
and we were going to Matt Rory's going away party when he was leaving to
go to Obsidian, Like him and his karaoke friends got together and we went
to that and that's where you saw and then yeah cash, he said,
yea, I'll put So I actually ordered a copy of Zardas from my phone
as Yeah, it's at the end of a drunk night. Oh yeah,
there's nothing quite like the way I had. Uh if you Gottas, So
what else is new? So? Uh buying a commander rearmed too? Uh?
Something that we played. I like this. It's like I got another
harmonize with you. So play that with my little brother and co Op and
that's fun. Not a good time. We jumped and we swang ate what
I heard I got. I got no love for the co op in that
game. Yeah, swing Swing. It's probably because he both started at the
same time. But yeah, once you get good at that game, yeah
yeah, you want to you just want to go. Yeah, you know.
Plus, you know, it's something where we were just kind of goofing
around, were taking it very seriously. The thing I hate about that game
though, is uh, I guess it's got like places that you can't access
until you get the right equipment, like the shop cloth. Yeah, there's
there's uh, there are a few things like that. It's not really that
vital in the grand scheme of things. It's not you you're not necessarily seeing
that in every single level and going like, oh, I gotta come back
when I got the so and so, but I wasn't sure if I was
supposed to be looking to lock that stuff in the level, because you know,
at the end of the level they'll give you that wrap up screen.
I'm like, hey, you got this, this, and this. So
at one point we hit a level where it was like, hey, you
got this, this, and this, and you missed this square thing with
a lightning bolt through it. Right, They're like, oh shit, we
missed the lightning claw and we've seen a billion of those in the last seven
levels. Let's just keep playing this level till we find it, which never
found it and like just spent like an hour just searching that level. And
I don't know if it's I don't even know if that's it could be something
that you need some other item to get to. They don't really explained.
But the thing but that game is there's there are items like that that you
don't acquire at a set rate. Some weapons it just gives you at the
end of this level. You will get the shotgun. At the end of
this level, you will get the rocket launcher because the story dictates it.
But then some of that stuff, there are actually multiple versions of that power
up because you actually upgrade your your weapons by finding multiple of the same thing,
right, But if you miss an early one and get another one later,
that's when you'll get the first shot claw or something. And then so
yeah, so that was really confusing to somebody who's like, well, I
don't want to move on because I want to miss anything, so let's like
let's go back and get it. And eventually we just had to be like,
well, screw it. Now, we're just going to go through Wretch
and try and play it. That's that's how I have to literally have to
play that. Yeah, so it got a little frustrating there, But then
we moved on and uh, I suspect and cull up. The bosses are
just way easier because one guy just draws the attention and the other guy is
just pounding him with with shots And well, which boss are you talking about,
because there are I don't know, I'm just saying in general, because
like we just kept all the bosses in the game are separate levels. If
you're talking about the guy with the mask over his face, he's not a
robot. No, no, no, no. This was later on,
I can't even remember. There was some some like Little Tank or something like
that that was just like robot with claws, giant gorilla and stuff. So
the boss fights in that game are that kind of the downfall the whole thing,
because maybe we haven't gotten that far yet. They're all super pattern based
and super slow. So it's just like, here's a giant gorilla and you're
fighting this monkey and he has an attack where he moves his arm back and
forth across where you're running, and one time it's high so you have the
duck, and one time it's low. So you have to jump and time
and the jump is not super easy, like it's easy, you're just jumping,
but getting the timing right on it every time is kind of a hassle
and it's repetitive and it's boring, and you can't hit him until he opens
up for his Yeah, so he does a whole thing for you know,
what seems like a full minute and it's probably less, but you know,
it seems like a long time before he opens up to a point where you
can do basically thirty three percent damage, and then you have to do that
two more times and the pattern doesn't change, and you're not particularly resilient in
that game, so you just end up in this situation where you're just like,
man, I I've figured out how to kill it. I know how
to kill this thing. I know I have done all the things required to
kill this thing. I just have to be able to put it together for
the next amount of time. Yeah, And that's not it's not fun,
Like even when you pull it off, there's not this sense of like,
yeah, there's this sense of like fucking thank god, Oh, like I
just made it through this, like Simon thing, Yeah, just match exactly,
and and it's all like that all the boss fights and then they just
get worse and you fight that Grella a second time later on. Like the
boss design is bad. It's it's it's a real shame, is it with
capcom putting out games that screw up boss fights? I don't know. I
don't know. Who's turning into a disturbing tries when when you die on the
boss do you have to start over? And so like you lose one life,
you start over because I got on the cut up, you just kind
of like you just respond, you just jump back here, right right,
So as long as you don't both die at the same time. Yeah,
which makes a lot of the game just easy to kind of that makes sense.
Maybe you have limited lives, but by finding all those extra lives like
those are basically just you get earn extra retries every time you go into a
level. So now I'm at a point where every time I go into a
level live like thirteen dudes or something. So uh, I don't know if
you could just hit start or something on the second controller when you hit a
boss and just have a dude jump in and let him stay alive in a
corner or something. It's all right. I don't think I'm getting the same
kind of instinct gratification I got from the first rearms. Yeah, it definitely
feels a little more of a retread in some places, and it does seem
like they added like all the different weapon finds, and that stuff is is
distracting me from what I really love, which is just swinging over spikes and
kind of crazy you know, acrobatics. That's like, man, I can't
believe I made that one. On one hand, I really like it because
they modernized the game. They didn't just make an old eight bit game again,
and you know, they added weapons and they added some depth to it.
But some of the stuff with like fighting that behind a subscreen is kind
of annoying. I guess, yeah, it's too bad because I think some
of that like specialized arms stuff, sounds like it could open up some interesting
gameplay possibilities for that. Yeah, but then it's like, you know,
you get this hack arm and there are terminals that you can hack to stop
all the robots in that room for moving for twenty seconds or you knows just
the time thing. Yeah, and you know, you find more power ups
to the hacking arm, and I suspect it just lasts longer. It doesn't
actually tell you what it's upgrading, just your arm is better, and uh
so you have to like, you know, you're not gonna leave the hack
arm on at all times, and this doesn't come up that often. So
basically it's like, you know, you're hitting select to go into the subscreen,
you're going into your active upgrades, you're picking the hack arm, you're
going back out, and everything's governed by one meter. So if you've just
been firing off grenades from the grenade launcher that stand there, wait for it
to recharge before you can use the hack arm. And even then it's hit
you know, the one button to activate it, and then you stop to
hit the arm button to get the arm out while it's you know, imbued
with this power. Yeah, it seems so, because like why not just
like use the shoulder, the bumpers or the deepend They use just about every
button in there. They don't use the deepad, They don't you know,
I guess they don't use the click in stick stuff like the depad, just
like use that to cycle through like what are your potential active things? Have
an icon in the corner. Well, you can also move with the dpad
first, Oh right, yeah, well then just don't don't let them do
that. Yeah yeah, I mean there's there's more elegant solutions to be had,
right, So, like that's by the time you've done all that,
you could have just swung your way past all that stuff and been moving on.
That's that's kind of the the issue there is they don't always give you
a reason to want to hassle with all of the powers that they've added to
the game. The same deal with a lot of the weapons. Like it's
cool they give you a rocket launcher, Like they give you some decent stuff,
but it's all limited AMMO, and most of the enemies you're facing,
Uh, it's not. You're just better off just hammering on the fire button
with the default weapon to just take them out quickly. And the bosses in
many cases, not every case. Uh, the bosses just kind of take
a set amount of damage before they kick you off and go back into their
attack pattern. Yeah. Yeah, so you have a window that if you're
hammering on the regular fire button, you're going to do just as well as
if you switch to the shotgun and got off two shots of that, which
you think you do use the shoulder buttons to switch guns. I think that's
the power of stuff is riding co op. I don't know when it happens.
Maybe when you die so you can choose independent power ups to reach player,
but like when you die for some reason, I think it's when you
die or restart a level, it defaults back to whatever one of the players
has. Yeah, it's really annoying. So you have to go in through
the screen like a bug or something. Yeah, it seems weird ah a
game the games all right, I spent some time in there. Like the
control that's it gives a really good first impression as someone who liked the first
game, because it's a good half hour of like thinking, well, it's
a good first pressure may where we're putting it. Like at first, you
think like, oh my god, they broke it because they added the jumping.
They added a ton of swing mechanics that add a lot of stuff to
swinging that make it tougher when you're trying to pick it up. But once
you're over that learning curve, you're like, oh, like I got the
point where I like, I totally understand exactly why they changed things the way
they changed it, Like the way that the arm works is way smarter in
this game than it wasn't the first one. You have a lot more control
over what you're doing with it, and that's awesome, But then kind of
the rest of it, the the level design feels kind of disjointed. You're
just like, what am I doing again? Swinging to the right, Okay,
let's go and in this helicopter right, let's go. Well, the
other thing with the with the kind of finding that stuff is they you know,
there's a there's a height on a lot of levels, So if you're
like going to the high road or do you kind of want to make sure
you check the bottom too, because you don't want to pass over any power
ups or anything like that. And so there's like a lot of different paths
you can take, and then you have those blocks you can destroy, and
you just I just feel like I'm searching around where my favorite parts of the
first one. We're just kind of swinging as fast as I can, like,
never touch the ground, just go. So the hunting and stuff is
is not as fun. I played Magica. Do you get it? No?
Is it magical? It is magical? Do you play it with anybody?
Yeah? Yourself? So again come up with my brother local on the
PC. Yeah I heard that subsequent players on the same machine you have to
use a game pad. Yes, So he was using the three sixty controller.
And it's interesting seeing the interface he has to go through and when I'm
going through and I haven't quite decided which one I think I'd rather play with
where I can just hit the keys and stuff. He's got kind of a
menu he has to go through a little bit like a radial like a little
bit. Yeah, like does it pause, no, because it seems like
a pretty fast paced kind of Actually, he was able to navigate it pretty
quickly. He wasn't having that many problems. It's more of like when you
find something that works, you just kind of stick with it. Yeah,
that's what I found myself doing just in that quick look Like it was just
like two spells together over and over. And I'm sure that it benefits you
to use stuff that's a little more complicated. But your your guys are after
you the entire time, so you don't have a lot of time to sit
there and queue up spells. But with the multiplayer it's a little bit different
because the guys will go after somebody else and you can sit in a little
bubble and kind of cue up stuff. But it's a fast paced, it's
fun. On the multiplayer. It's fun because you can revive the other guy,
so again, you can kind of burn through it a lot faster.
Yeah. I've seen a lot of complaints about the checkpointing in that game.
And I say check pointing so much as like the kind of the saving,
like if you if you quit out and you come back into the chapter,
always going to start at the beginning of that chapter, and the chapters are
pretty long. Yeah, it's kind of unfortunate. So I had fun with
that. Magic Goes is pretty cool with a k with a k end to
sau yeah, and an a magic So I don't know if I would go
back and play through it again, but it seems like you might want to
just to try other spells. Sure, well, did you try any of
that, like a reno or challenge stuff? That seems like that's where you'd
want to really stuff. You got kind of cool weapons that you pick up
too, which I didn't expect, and that stuff's fun. So I am
excited to get into Dead Space two at some point that was that was actually
my goal, was like I got burned through all this dead Space pre stuff
and get into dead Space too, because they of that game is awesome.
And then I just got bogged down and and all that dead Space pre stuff.
So probably should have just skipped all that. Do the hacker suit,
Yeah, Hicker, it's all right. Super worth I was what you could
have played the super for about five minutes. I was more intricted. I
was more I was more interested in seeing, like setting up some of the
story stuff, and I don't know if it will pay. I don't I
don't know that Ignition does all that much to set it up other than what
happens in the last five minutes. Yeah, I mean, I don't know.
I haven't played Dead Space too, so maybe they'll replation monsters. What
did you didn't play Ignition? Did you know? How do you know that?
Because I saw the end of it on Brad's play. There's monsters,
yo, there's monsters, and it's in space. It's yeah, what space
monsters. Such thing as space moms. There's space religions and space space monsters.
It's just like space. It's not a space jam, it's a dead
space. It's Dead Space two. So that's it. Great? Yeah,
great, thanks Mannie. I had both consoles kicking. Yeah, we didn't.
You didn't actually play the thing that we went to play last week?
Did you? I played it? You didn't play it? You watched it.
I'm not sure you're talking. What are you talking about? Dragon Age?
What about Dragon Age? I thought that I thought Vinnie played that.
Oh no, you didn't play it. That's right, that's up. Now
I'll wait my turn. Sorry, Yeah, that's right, I'm done.
Cash me out Jeanie. Hey, Jeff, Hey, what up dude?
That's not much. It's doing whatever. How was your weekend? It's all
right, I don't know. How are the pizza roles disgusting? We had?
Really? Do you wanted a box of Takedo? No? Yeah,
yes, sure, yes, okay what brand of pizza roles? Do you
think? The only brand Tainos? So we got a bag into me and
my roommate. I've never seen any of just three year running tradyree years.
Yeah, yeah, that's happened three times. It's a trend. Pizza roll
parties happening it all over the nation. Uh bag of ninety Get a big
bag of pizza rolls for the Super Bowl and make yourself sick on them.
And I probably took down two thirds of that Friday night. Brendan was saying
that I should expect you to not be in today. The disturbing part is
that the at the end, when all the pizza roles were gone, it
still kind of felt Okay, You're like, I didn't feel great, but
you know, in years past, I've been like I need to lay down.
I can't. Actually, this is this is the worst thing that's ever
happened. To me this time. I was like, this is gross,
but I'm not incapacitated. But if you want to go for a jog or
something, I could probably use it. You want to throw a couple more
of those pizza roles in there, and if you're not yeah, if you're
not doubled over clutching your midsection, you've come out of head. Yeah,
I get or yeah, I guess you're not doing pizza rolls, right,
Yeah, that's that's more what I was thinking. Do you make all the
roles at once? No? No, no, no, that's folly about
the logistical process with you leave the oven on for yeah, like the first
three quarters of the game, and by the end of it, like you're
wondering, why is the kitchen like all smoky and like smell like fire.
Oh, because it's been cooking all the charred gunk in the bottom of my
oven. For anyway, your video games, Fantasy Star Online, they got
a new one of those coming out, right, Yeah, actually, yes,
Fancy Star Online two is supposed to be out this year on the PC,
but that's not where we're got ready for that by playing the first one
or the PC version of them, join there you go. Yeah, that
whole back catalog in so they actually took the servers down for PSO Blue Burst.
Uh, they took the US servers down a while ago, I guess,
but in Japan the servers were running until like October November of last year.
I forget what the I forget what's past four five is when this current
version came out. But what is so is that like version two Fancy Star
Online, it had version two content in it, and they eventually came out
with what they called episode or basically they called it episode two because and they
also put out episode four because Episode three was the crappy card battle game for
the game. Cute, yes it was, and people are running private servers
for the game. So I decided to kind of see what's that, what
that's all about, and check in on that, and that ended up with
like a ten hour stretch on Saturday play it a whole shitload of the slid.
So yep, Level eighteen got to keep feeding this mag It was a
you make your mag look like a genesis. Yet no, I was always
terrible at feeding Mag's the right stuff to get him to do. That I
just never understood because at some point it's like I don't know. I think
it figures into the mag stuff. But you have to name your character the
right way so he gets the right section. I d oh, what is
a mag? It's you have to feed it or something sort of kind of
but it'll it hangs out behind you or or you know, floats above your
shoulder. Sometimes it'll split it two and it evolves as you feed it.
So you feed it healing items and like or anti paralysis or anti poison items
and stuff, and it has four meters that fill based on how you're feeding
it, and so power will level up or dexterity will level up, and
it earns basically what super attacks over time, and as it evolves, it'll
learn more. So the first one that I get is the class that I
always play is this sick dolphin that shows up in rainbow space and then darts
through enemies and hurts them. And then there are a bunch of other ones
for all the you know, the lesser classes out there. But so bottom
line, you gotta feed your mat. It's good man. You gotta feed
your mag. So like every every like ten minutes or something like that.
You can feed your mag three items. So but you have to remember to
feed. It's try. If you don't feed it, nothing happens. But
but nothing, that's the Yeah. I mean you can keep you once you
once the timers expired, you can just feed it whatever. But for maximum
efficiency, you want every feed in that thing. Like people were putting out
applications for like to run on the PC while you were playing on the Dreamcast
mag no a mag timer. It would go off and that's pretty crazy.
Was there any VMU mag connectivity? No? I don't think so. I
don't think there was any meaning. You'd make your mag. You can make
your mag fight at chow. How could you not? How could they not
let you put your mag on the VU. You could like feed the mag
when you're out. The best thing you could do with it with the controller
ports on a dreamcas controller. Where PSO was concerned was put a game shark
in that thing. Because the that was what they fixed basically later on,
is that all of the all the character stuff was stored was stored client side
in the original game, so you could play it offline, you could take
it online the same character. But then you know, you just had people
hacking giving themselves the best armor and all this other stuff. And ruining the
game. Yeah, it was a lot of fun throwing off any any semblance
of balance or anything, right, all of the rarest items everyone then had.
Yeah, so you know, with the PC version they tried to institute
a bunch of stuff to try to prevent that sort of thing when they're running
the servers. It sounds like they had mixed success with that at best.
And now they have you know, private servers, So now I can actually
just say I want the experience points to be like one thousand x what they
normally are, or I just want to be a GM and be able to
warp any where and do anything, and all the silly stuff. It's just
kind of it's interesting to mess around with because you know, they added a
ton of like when they did Episode four and its like on the PC,
they added a ton of crazy stuff to that game, even Episode two,
which I didn't play because they wanted a regular fee for it. They added
all kinds of crazy business to a game that already had all sorts of insane
shit and it Jeff can ask you a question, Yeah, why do you
like Pso I don't really know, I don't like I found myself kind of
asking myself that question, because it seemed to have like a lot of the
components of things that you actively hate. Uh you know, it's the same
reason I like Borderlands, like the loot. Yeah, is is pretty cool,
and it was kind of the first of its kind. I mean at
the time, there's a lot there. But the other thing I knew.
The other thing I did is immediately go tell a friend of mine who I
played a ton of PSO with back in the day, like, dude,
you just get in on this. Uh So, at one point we were
playing PSO and I was like, this is cool. To what end?
Though, where are you going with this? I don't know, There's there's
nothing. He's getting ready, that's what end. That's all video games though,
Like that's in the moment, man, Yeah, that's you know the
man, video games are only pointless. I don't know. Life. You
gotta go building a breage or a village right now. We gotta make a
difference in this world. According to Jane mcconagalls, what yah books books come
on one of the teachers at Hogwarts. Yes, I'm not believing any of
her bullshit books potions and I don't know if that's she was not cold Bear.
Yeahs her name that you've got her name is OK. So I don't
know, is that the nature is that the that's yeah, that whole thing
is quasi legal obviously because it's private servers of a game other stuff. But
I don't know that game works for me in a way that none of the
handheld games have. And I probably if they had made the if they had
not attached a monthly fee to the multiplayer and Fantasy Star Universe on the three
sixty, I might have stuck with that a little world. I totally finished
it a single player, and you know, tried the multiplayer when I was
reviewing it and stuff, but I couldn't justify the cost. Yeah, because
because well, that's the thing is, these games are not MMOs. And
even you know, they did add content over time, but a lot of
it was really hacky. It was like MK trilogy style of we have these
parts, we're gonna try and cobble them into something new that doesn't necessarily break
stuff. We made the green guy's blue yeah kind of. Also, this
guy has a diagonal spear, no yeah, or yes? Yes? We
added AOL logos all over it for this special AOL quest that's the sort of
stuff they did with the PC version of Fantasy Star Online, which is why
it makes sense that, you know, with the most recent like I think
it was like Infinity two or maybe it was Infinite whatever it was that they
put out in Japan, there was all sorts of tie in business with drink
companies and Japanese logos all over every single bit of that thing. But it's
it's not an MMO. Yeah, it's a four player games. It's Diablo,
It's it's guild wars, you know, space, It's it's a less
ambitious guild war. But even though even by any of those standards, it's
it's pretty simple. Again at the time, it was like it on consoles,
but there's nothing in there that that justifies them charging a regular fee for
it. And that's the that's the biggest problem. So if that that's kind
of the thing is he played a bunch of fucking ps over the weekend.
So if they're gonna put out Fantasy Star Online too and try and charge people
for it, I don't know, it'd better be a completely different game,
which is kind of what they said. I found myself like reading going back
and rereading the very small bits of information about that game that that came out
when they mentioned they were doing it, and they say, like it's an
entirely new work. Wasn't what the translation was better? And again, I
you know, I love the balls on putting out a game, putting out
eighteen peripheral game, and then putting out another game and calling it too I
love that. Well that's that's it, man, It's it is too is
everything else is all set somewhere else? Like this could be a return to
go back to Pioneer two. Man, think about Pioneer three. What Pioneer
three Pie two is now exploded as well? Oh god, as long as
I could be a Now there is nothing short, thick, dark colored robot
with a mushroom style head that shoots gigantic rifles. Yeah, I'm okay with
that game. Anything else? No, man, Uh, all right,
Brad, let's get let's get into it here. All right, what are
you gonna start with? Let's start with namco Oh god, I forgot about
that. Yeah, man, yeah, it's a busy week, it was.
Jee's all right, Uh where do you want to start? They're in
because even they had a lot of stuff, they had a fair mins of
ship going on. So NAMCO had an event in San Francisco last week in
in sunny in the on the sunny Sandy Beaches of San Francisco. They showed
off well. They first had a roughly thirty six hour stage presentation that we
skipped make it for that, which yeah, we did not sit through that.
But then they also had some games to play and we played them.
We did, and they include Ridge Race three We're off the clip ready,
just stretch it out, stretch it out, and the men so rig Race
three DS played it. I'm thinking my way around the room. I'm trying.
I'm visualizing the room that we went to. Well, maybe maybe we
should just run down all the three DS games at once, because I don't
think any of them alone or substantial enough to Okay, we'll talk. So
Ridge Race three DS is the three D. How's that look? It looks
okay, it looks like a ridge racer game. It's the bottom screen.
Do there's some kind of auto drift button? You had? It had a
map on it, you know what? That's all I remember. I'll tell
you this about the three DS, and it's something that I just realized right
now, is that it is fucking impossible to change your focus from the top
screen to the bottom screen when you were locked into looking at shit in three
D, I'm talking anything else. Yeah, you don't want to avert your
gays. You don't want to change because because there were definitely times where I
was playing it and like, I don't know if you losted it or what
happened, but I'm like, oh no, I'm cross, I don't know,
I'm seeing everything double. I ended up playing Ridge Racer in two D
for about half of the race that I played, and at that point it
kind of looked like a PS one game. Did you auto drift? Uh?
No? Because when you saw I know how to drift nowton or something?
Well, no, they were talking about the auto drift feature, but
I don't know enough about Ridge Racer too. Yeah. I hit the break
and I started drifting. There you go. All the drifting is auto drifting.
I did a three sixty reverse span around a corner, so great.
The drifting works. When I saw it was the one in three D that
made me the three D one. Yeah, you know, the one that
was playing in three D. I don't know which one of you were playing.
It was harder than it was the one where if you put the three
D slider up all the way, it was just insane, like my eyes
would just it's it's pretty intense. Well, I think what it is is
I feel like they really punched the car out of the background, like like
they make like that is the number one most prominent thing that really jumps out
out of the screen. It like the ratio for like the distance of things
and how much three D they are giving you doesn't feel natural in there.
It feels like the cars is being stretched way the fuck out, But then
the rest of the background doesn't have it that necessarily that same kind of depth.
It was hard. It was hard for me focus. It's a lot.
You definitely have to all of them so far. I found you have
to kind of find your your comfort, your sweet spot for where you can
actually look at, which for me was about maybe a third of the three
D. It's about all. It's about two thirds and is about where I
like to set it. Six percent three D the sixty six point two.
Okay, so you don't have any I'm going sixty seven you don't, I'm
going sixty seven percent. I wonder if this is a factor you don't wear
any kind of corrective lenses. No, I have great eyes. I have
the best eyes any I don't like you wear content focus. I don't know
if you have this experience or not, but I could feel like palpable eyestrain,
have super ese, Like you know what it's like not having your any
kind of lenses on. You know, like you just get aheadache because your
eyes are like you're constantly straining to see everything. It's like that super how
super your eyes? Well, we should test it. We should see how
far I can read stuff because I can read stuff pretty far. You can
read STUFP pretty far. You don't even have to put the slider up.
You just see it in three D naturally. Yeah, well I see all
of you guys in three D right now. It's crazy. Now what do
you got? Oh god? Oh no. The one of the namcocer is
actually recommended that you hold it closer to your face. Really, I try
that and it was easier to see. I mean, well, these guys
should go. I guess you should go through the rest of the games before
Yeah. Sure. Other three DS games include They had something called dual pin
Sports, which is basically you like, tell me about that. Basically we
Sports for the three DS, but requires two stylist is Styli Stylus, Styli
spice the stylists double stylists. They said they are examining their options and may
include a stylist a Kimbo second stylists in the box. This is the game
that requires two styles. Is they're examining their eyes. He would come with
two styles. You would not confirm that they had worked out their plans exactly,
but they were hoping to include another stylist. We all know you already
have a DS I take the stylist out of that. That's really their only
other options. But I mean that was just a bunch of boxing and baseball
and archery. I think. So at that point, you literally you have
to have the DS on a tape. I had to set it down in
front of me and just kind of right you things that you had, like
stylus on the bottom screen just wherever, and then the actions on the top
three days basically like boxing was sort of like one styles per hand kind of
stuff. And then they have that pac Man and Galagha demensions. That's the
name of the whole package. Yes, so it's two separate games that they're
kind of bundling because neither is really big enough to justify a game on it
can't really call it a minigame collect it's but it's not a mini game collection
even even together. I don't know it's a retail will see. But the
Galagha part is basically a they're they're both they both use the three D Galagha
more so, the most mind blowing part of that package is that that pac
Man game, which is half of that cart yeah, is completely in two
D. But the reason for that is that both of these games use the
the tilt and motion functions of the three D. Yeah. Actually that's that's
the I mean, that's the foremost feature there. I think the guy that
was at that kiosk I asked while I was Pacman not in two D,
and he actually said something about like the kind of the art ass as they
were using, like the style of the game they thought did not lend itself
well to two D. But I figured, you know, you got to
tilt that fucking three DS around a bunch. Oh, you're not gonna be
able to keep track of the three D. That's totally fair, but it's
just it's weird to me because I assume the platform maker would have this requirement.
The stuff show maybe three D. Maybe that's why the Galagha party.
And he totally said like, well, we've got the Gallagha that's in three
D. We figured that would satisfy that requirement. I love this idea of
two D games on the three DS, but sneaking them in though we have
we have Mario Brothers. It's in three D. Now we're now we're good.
Yeah, we have Mario Brothers in three D class like they're just but
they're just gonna start doing the Mario Advance. Put that put like a tiny
little arcade game in there. Every time three D. That's a three and
then the games is regular flat. We don't have to worry about that.
So were those were those were the three DS games? Yep? So general
and oppressions onto three DS. This is like kind of big. Firsthand,
it seems like a decent piece hardware since E three at least, you know,
I think that the I think the three DS feels good in the hand.
I think that they've they've done well on Yeah, Nintendo has done their
part. They made they made it the hardware. They made some nice improvements
to it since E three, they've they've reprosed that what are they calling it,
the analog thing, the thing, there's a name for it, like
like slide pad or something like that. I don't know whatever. Max,
Yes, I'm not a fan of those little clickie buttons underneath the touch screen.
I don't know about your guys. The start and selecting home. I
wasn't a fan because I couldn't see it. Yeah, it was really dark
in that basement, and they're basically impossible to find. But as you'll get
used to that. I'm sure I played some. I played some there after
we were doing our rounds and I was like, well, I'm waiting for
Brad to play Ridge Razor before we take off here. Uh, they've got
this pac Man Championship Edition for PSPs. I'll go play that. What the
hell, guys, pac Man is still pretty good of us, the first
as Championship Edition, and it's PSP Mini too, such five bucks and it
doesn't it's not like it is not even as feature rich as some of the
other pac Man products that have come out recently, which were I thought fairly
spartan to a certain degree. Uh, this is like five modes, no
leaderboard just go. But pac Man, even though it's way way harder and
way slower than d x CHA Championship Edition, is still some baller shit.
Huh huh, huh huh. What were they demoting on the go? No,
I just did. It's funny because like the game came out that day.
I think they had it running on a PSP D Bug says like system
like full on with the Giant Tower and all that shit. Yeah, I
was. I thought it was a little a little bit odd. King's Contracts
Contract, Night's Contract. I didn't play much of that. Is that it's
almost out, said three sixty p s three game game Republic making that downloadable.
They of Magina in the Second Kingdom and also Genji. Uh, I
don't know. It looked okay. It seemed like a what are you doing
it? Pretty standard character action, God of War, Devil mccry kind of
stuff. Has a look. It seemed all right, you're running it mostly
sixty frames a second, but like the like the art did it look because
mcgin was like kind of weird, had a last generation kind of looked to
it. It looked okay. They have a certain grit to their games,
getting Republic games. I'm not saying it was Magine was like terrible looking,
but it just definitely had that like weird remind me of Enslaved something about the
the quality of the textures. It almost seems like a style thing more than
necessarily a tech thing. I don't know sure, but that's out like two
weeks, so I don't make game engines take a look at that. Uh.
Inversion, Yeah, inversion, I think that's probably their their biggest They
ended, they ended like we got their tail end of the presentations and that's
what they ended with a lengthy battle version and we played some inversion. This
is coming from Saber Interactive guys. Big Time Shift coming out next year like
this time next year. Busy guys, those Sabers. They certainly are,
at least in theory. Sounds like it. I think rumor. I think
we broke this thing down right. It was eight percent years of war,
at fifteen percent what do we say, dead space, dead space, and
then about about five percent fracture. Yeah about that which parts fracture, So
so I meant to be careful when you add that fracture. Basically, it's
like it's like pepper, It's it's kind of you know, apocalyptic e urban
environments. Okay, cover based the third person shooter, very familiar controls.
Yeah, absolutely, you know, Rody run everything. You kind of anticipate
from that no active reload. That's basically why it's at you're saying the active
reload is twenty percent experience. You tell me there's uh, I could see
someone making a case for that. You have crazy gravity powers, so you
can like to do you can shoot gravity, so so it it's it's kind
of crazy because at first glance, like, oh, so all of this
cover stuff doesn't mean anything because I could like, oh, those guys are
behind cover, let me shoot out this ray of gravity craziness at them,
and then them and everything around them kind of floats up and is kind of
discombobulated for a second. They can still move, so it's like they come
they rise up behind the cover right because they're floating in the air and they're
at first they're kind of like spin around, like going like what the fuck
is going? Figured out? And they figured it out and they start shooting
at you. But then they're exposed and you can shoot them more easily.
It's a cool looking effects, like the way the way it looks and like
all the there's a lot of debris around, so like all that comes up
as well. So it's just so you'll like be running by like an office
chair and I'll bump you in the shoulder and just kind of spin through the
air. It feels a lot like those zero G stuff in dead space too,
Like just a lot of like objects a sort of lazily kind of floating
around you and stuff. Second part of that demo, they also had the
environment of the entire world shifting, like so all of the all of the
all the gravity went sideways. So you're staying there on the street and there's
you're like in this you know, the urban areas, there's big tall buildings
beside you. You're running out of the street and all of a sudden,
oh fuck gravity and then everything shifts sideways and now you are standing on the
side of this building. And it seems like it's it's kind of like set
it's it's not something that would trigger randomly necessarily, at least the way this
is present, it seems like spirit there is a specific path to be taken.
Now that you are on the side of this is everything I was on
the street crash into the building as well, like cars and whatever else people's
and I don't recall. That doesn't sound scientifically possible. Guys on a ship
maybe not. No, it seems like you were on an Earth. Bad
things are happening, not necessarily Earth. I don't know. Yeah, it
might be earth work to welcome to Earth. It could be in a dream
within a dream. We're not talking about that right now. Is a dream
collapsing? Uh? You know, we we're trying to keep you know,
story elements close to the best right now. I don't know if they did
that game any favors by showing it this early, because it's a good year
and change away from Relief, there's there's performance issues. Yeah, so is
that the fracture part? Then that's it sounds conceptually interesting. It's certainly it
does sound interesting. I don't know. I don't know if it's enough to
be like I'm not sure if NAMCO is positioning this as like this is one
of our big new ips. This is going to be a huge push for
us here because it seems too immediately derivative to be to be on the level
of a dead space or a Gears or anything kind of getting the ring and
stand on its own exactly exactly, like this would be like, oh,
this is a good weekend or you know, good kind of middle tier.
I don't know, it's your Vanquish. Sure, it is like a Vanquish.
I could see that. We'll have to We'll have to see when Gears
three actually ends up coming out, because I mean they have moved it to
holiday, but it could be like a September thing. Like Microsoft's been doing
Halo in September, so they'll probably do Halo in September this year. Maybe
we'll get to that. Well, whatever, we'll see. I mean,
this is out in February of next year or so, maybe it's far out
enough from years three that like people will be kind of looking for something new
in that vein maybe February of next year. Yes, okay, that is
not a year of changed. It's like a late February I think it was.
It was. Yeah, it was like a year and a couple of
weeks. Yeah, okay, that's changed, all right, Yes, you
got it perfect. I feel like a conversion rate like on time. I
think the those games always seem to kind of live and die by their design,
like once you get past the cool factor, and you're like, yeah,
yeah, then quality of the game, like what do you guys do
with your crazy gracture was actually kind of cool for like the first two levels
where you're like this is yeah, it's kind of cool. You're like,
now do this for seven more hours and you're like, oh, I don't
want to do that, or shut up and do it all right, No
fracture, I'm putting my foot down. Was up. Tide goes in,
Tide goes Out. There's really there's no miscommunication there. Explain it. I
want a game where I can watch some side roll in wherever I am there,
give me a cover based third person shooter, or I can just make
the tide roll in that wash and then everybody washes away and the tide go
out and then there are puzzles. There's water here. What do I do
out? R Yeah? I mean the tide go out? Now I can
run through here? Yeah? Well where did the moon come from? Where
did it come from? God? Do you win? Oh damn. That's
the end of the game. It's when you embrace the thing. So that's
the thing is I you play as a moon man and have power over the
tides as someone from the lunar surface. I feel like that game has been
made in Japan somewhere. And then you gotta sometimes you gotta like get on
a rock and then make the tide go in, and then the rock floats
because it's a light rock, and then you part of the Moon rock and
then you're part of the rocks and then you jump up to get on top
of the building. Tide goes out, Tide goes out. So we should
make a game with lunar gravity. Is somebody ever done that demolition derby VMX
racing for the PlayStation one an old course set on the Moon? Is it?
You always remember the name? I never do demolition derby construction kit,
Demolition Derby Racing, Destruction set set gravity, you do any kind of gravity
one that Jupiter gravity wipe out fusion for the PS two at a moon level,
I mean like a platform where you're just like bouncing around. Just get
a game, Gigantic Lander, Gary Mud. Yeah, there's that game there,
that that NASA game they released on the team where you have Oh that's
right, Oh god, I never played that. You can't to be making
game. The game was just Red Rock art. Red Rock RTX was a
was on Mars. That NASA game was just a recruitment tool. Yeah,
yes, they're just trying like Last Starfighter and great good recruit people for NASA
have to You see what you have to do in that game, make more
like anti recruits. It's really what you do. Because I thought this would
be excited, make more science. Take your temperature again, make more science.
I thought I was going to find trans science. We got. I
guess we got some extra time on the mission. We can bring a turtle
up for these kids who want to know about turtles in space. We got
to talk to the director of Turtles of the new Space Combat. Right,
Yeah, that sounds what it's called. Sounds right. I think that's right.
Assault Horizon, I'm pretty sure. Yeah, that's right because it has
the close range assault feature. That's that's the big innovation that they're bringing to
the table. That's right. So basically iron sights for your plane for your
plane, uh like more more dynamic camera work for the for the for that
uh like when you see it when it's in action, Uh, it makes
sense. It looks really slick because it it takes over a certain amount of
your like flight control, so you can aim a bit. So that you
can aim more more accurately. And uh, and it seems like basically basics
console, not PSP console, the full the full compliments of consoles. It
because like ace combat is always just a lock on game. Yeah, and
then shoot your missiles and then you're done. Like this, all this,
all this close quarters? Was it close quarters combat with close close range of
saul that I heard the name of this? You gotta like take planes,
have to learn kravmaga the close range of sault possibilities. But it but it
makes it makes the crap. It makes like your you know, your vulcan
caannons or machine guns or whatever actually useful cool. Uh. And it seems
it looks really nice to have a crazy story, so that that's actually what
kind of concerned me. How long does it take to get into the game,
Yeah, I guess not as so the guy directed like I think five,
so he knows his way around a crazy ace combat story. Yeah.
And one of the things we were saying is they didn't they realized that they
had gotten trapped into kind of a pattern as far as the structure went of
just you know, briefing, mission debriefing and then for instant repeat through the
entire game. Uh, so they're gonna mix it up some with the structure,
uh, having like you know, cut scenes go directly into gameplay,
just stuff to make it more dynamic. That stuff sounded good. That sounded
like streamlining. But yeah, that's also that's modernizing. But also I guess
they're saying, like, you know, they received the feedback that some people
felt that the the the sincerity levels of storytelling in past ace combat was perhaps
a bit high. Uh yeah, there's there's just that how they put it,
well, you know, going we're going through a translator here. I
don't don't, I don't. I don't know that that was the exact message.
But yeah, but basically like like they were taking themselves too seriously.
Basically like someone said that, Yeah, like the storytelling is too is too
since here and too serious. So that was like the one thing that set
it apart from every other flight combat games. Well, they're still going to
have a big, crazy story in it, but it sounds more like just
the style of it. Like they had a US uh military consultant come in
and they talked about planes and scenarios and things like that. Dudes playing volleyball
say, when we aim we aimed the sites. Oh yeah, but dude,
forget all that. You know, you want to roll the SATs.
You want to take this one. You've got, You've got the personal history.
I guess, deeply, deeply relevant. I suppose. So, so
he's talking at this point, she can I tell the who tell the whole
story, tell the whole story. So so he's talking about the like the
mission structure stuff, and like, oh, you know, you might you'll
be playing you know, as the you know, as the fighter pilot or
whatever, and you know, you might go directly to cutscene, or you
might see something from the perspective of the bomber pilot, or you might see
something from the perspective of the the helicopter pilot. I said, so,
so is that just like like story stuff, Are you actually gonna play as
the bomber or the helicopter pilot? And lengthy exchange in Japanese back and forth,
and then and then you translates it like I don't know if I could
say anything about this right now, like pr from off to the side of
no, just a hard no, like like no, you can't say anything,
Like no, you can't say anything about it. And we're like,
well, okay, well we know what that means. But whatever. It's
like, you're not fooling anybody, dude, just like is going through debug
menus while we're talking here and just a loading stream comes up where it's all
in Japanese except for one word right in the middle Apache, And so we're
all seeing there like, oh, okay, you're just gonna you're just gonna
show it to us now, and clearly like Pierre's like, god, damn
it, he obviously wanted to show it. Yeah. It's it's always that
struggle of if you actually developer to developer about something, they always want to
show to you. They always want to say, I'm really proud of this,
shoot this out. What do you think? But Beier's like, don't
I think with a game like that it benefits them to show, hey,
this is different from the last few as early as they possibly you saw a
crazy helicopter level. Was it in fact crazy or was it just a helicopter?
It was kind of crazy. It's a lot of ground assault. He
was like blowing up a lot of tanks and shooting it guys in a city
and stuff. That was the thing that struck me most of what they have
been showing of this new A's combat game is you know, a combat is
always way up in the air right alco the ground. You're like, this
stuff is like this one can do. This is built around being very close
to the ground. And it seems like at least a lot of the mission
they're showing, they said that, yeah, there will be some of that
you know, sky high crazy stuff as well, but uh yeah, a
lot of interaction with the ground, a lot of just you know, aerial
combat near the ground, a lot of like, uh like the one area
we saw with jet was in some of the like industrial like oil field or
something, and there's sort of a lot of like weaving between like oil wells
and stuff like that. That sounds fun, like especially it seemed like in
the close range stuff when you're zoomed in on that mode, like you're kind
of going in between a lot of obstacles and stuff. So it looks Yeah,
they've they've made it look real nice. They've they've made it look more
exciting and definitely like, you know, it got helicopters a lot, I
could say, officially, And then even after he showed it to a shoot,
the PRS was like all right, this is off the record. Do
not mention this, like and I was. I was happy to say,
like, yeah, you know your information. Well, we're not dirt bags.
I'm not if if you say I can't say any about this, so
I'm gonna say anything about this. But I know that that's in there.
And did you just say something about that? As we came out afterwards and
said like yeah, right, you're clear to talk about mid few calls.
No, no crazy emotion stuff for it. Then huh no connects or they're
just making a game. Man. I've I've wanted to be into the ace
combat games for a while, but it's just the gameplay. Yeah, you
know, it's just the same stuff over and over again. Like and it's
because the story that I was like, man, you know I was here
from like you know, the people that were reviewing it, Like you know,
it's it's exactly what you would expect it to be, except the story's
crazy. It's like it's told from the perspective of a kid who's on the
other side. So it's like you're just seeing like this war torn country that
you're creating, and it's heavy, mind blowing, it's super heavy. It's
super and I'm like, man, that sounds great, except for the part
where it's just I've got tone fire rocket, I've got it again, fire
another rocket. Now there's the escort mission that I don't want to do and
turn it off. Well, we'll see if they actually pull it off.
But it seems like it seems like they are. They are actively true trying
to address issues of structure and kind of gameplay pacing for for this one.
You know, we didn't get to touch it, so I don't know how
it feels. But but there was that I had a shipload of like mobile
phone games and like iPad games that Racer on iPad, and I said,
I'm not gonna They've put that out a while ago. I said, I'm
not gonna. I'm not gonna test that new one or something. But then
they had that that other thing that we were not aware of, the Bridge
Racer Unbound till a couple of days later. Was that there. I guess
they show those same trailers that morning. Okay, yeah, all anybody,
yeah, all anybody has seen is that trailer? Yeah. That was also
the presentation where they said, hey, dark souls. Yeah, I kind
of wish i'd seen dark Souls. I'm feeling this weird compulsion to try that
game when it comes out. I don't know why not, because I'm gonna
make I'm gonna make my screw face at you. We should all try that
game when it comes out. I'll give it a shot. Yeah, I
have a long history of loving games that from Software makes exactly that's I don't
know if there's any question then I actually spent some time. I'm sorry,
I just finishing my post in the Endurance Run for submit you know what,
editing that part. We can't say Endurance Run on this as we're not talking
about that. I don't know how many times I send emails that just say
no in them. Do you respond to them? Yeah, well we get
them. We get them on the Bobcast constantly, and I just I want
to let them know no. Sorry, you were saying about your love.
What was I saying, you love from Software games? Yeah. So when
they announced all this stuff, I was talking to Will and I said,
yeah, like from Software right, and you know we're talking about Chromehounds and
some other stuff. I went and looked at the page of like, here's
the list of all the games from Software developed and ran ran down the list
the best I could come up with for my own personal like, yeah,
okay, it was three D dot game Hero. That's pretty good. It's
all right, come on, I thought you in Kingsfield went way back.
No, I mean yeah, like in a joking like fuck cakes Field,
Jesus, I didn't even know they were Chromehounds, was okay? I actually
really actively just like Chrome. Really. There are people that are crazy.
There are people that are crazy for Armored Core and there was the other part
of that announcement is they're not They're doing Dark Souls and they're gonna put Armored
Core five out here in twenty twelve, which that's not the style of met
game I want to play, and and and it's you know, maybe they'll
turn it around for me personally with these two games, but they don't have
to, Like I don't care. Those games don't need to be for me
for for the world to keep turning. If you want to play Armored Core
five, be my guests. I don't want anything to do with it.
Though some of the stuff like Commander Mode and all this stuff sounds potentially cool
for people that like that sort of thing, and probably if they're making something
that's a spiritual successor to Demon Souls unless they get the part where like the
gameplay is like kind of bad in like a deadly premonition sense. Maybe not
that rotten, but that's but like that's just unfair. It's kind of like
we're gonna look past there, We're gonna look past the kind of messed up
controls and just chalk it up to this game tar. Yeah, Like no,
well, like I still have to be like there's better ways to divine
your difficulty, yes, and I still have a thing for for Demon Souls
where I kind of still want to get back in there, but there is
some stuff you have to really kind of punishing and ugly, like that game
does you gotta give me something? Well, so you got to you gotta
give me something, But there are there are things in there that are really
novel and kind of unique and that Yeah, and I'm and when when people
talk about the game lovingly, like I look at that stuff and go,
yeah, that stuff sounds amazing. But for me personally, like I'm never
going to get past the hurdles of like the gameplay and right, and it's
not necessarily about like the difficulty, it's about the it does not control very
well. It's like what you're doing in it, which which I'm hoping you
know, they address in this and do some novel things. There's a lot
of very curious there's a lot of repetition and sort of pattern midmization involved too,
right, like learning when to expect things to happen, and like being
ready for because there's like a lot of I mean that this is my impression
having not played it for me. For me, it was it was like
you get one shot and stuff, right. It was more of just kind
of not really knowing what to do, like very little guidance in a very
complicated kind of combat system. Okay, that's from software kind that is that
is like that that typifies anything that they've ever put out as far as I
can tell. And the people that love it this field that that's it right
there. I think they rewarding where they're just like I got it, like
I've mastered it, and like I get it all. But getting to that
point can be you know, just the patients involved. Getting to that point
can be really testing chromemounds. I just was like there were people there,
there are people that love that still talk about chromemouns I can't play it anymore,
right, And I just didn't understand, like, I didn't understand why
you had to run for like twenty minutes to get back into a flame yel
because that's what Steel Battalion did. I don't know. It's yeah, anyway,
I'm with you. Let's go all right, I'll give it a shot.
Ridge Racer Unbounded is being made by Bugbear the Flat Out Guys, and
it basically looks like like, well, the trailer shows nothing right other than
no, there's a lot in that trailer other than nothing about the game.
Here is Ridge Racer Girls. She gets in, she gets out of one
super hot car and gets into another super hot car, and then drives it
down an alley, slams it in the side of a taxi. T bones
attacksbones attacks, serving to avoid it just just goes straight. And then there's
a slum shot of the taxi flying up in the air and flipping it over
end while you drive under it. That's some muscle car man, And then
it works right cars just so Yeah, I'm getting a real kind of burnouty,
I'm getting real flat out. Yeah, I guess I guess that's that's
probably more and the font reminds me of need for speed underground man a lot.
Oh my god, that's why it's unbounded, because it's a logo bround,
like it's a lot of this game letters. So maybe people see it
and go, this is kind of it's kind of nuts the first time I
saw that, because you had you had mentioned something before that, holy shit,
unbounded is not even that's a terrible terrible does that even me terrible name?
It's just unbounded. You would say it's unbounded. It's been unbound,
not that it's been unbounded, unbounded did most unbounded? But but yet,
and so this is you know, this is blasphemy. This is a blight
upon all that is Ridge Racers. So I wanted so forth. Uh yet
I can't help but be interested because Ridge Racer has just become so wrote and
just like it's completely stagnant to the point where like the best they can offer
is like it'll feature machines and tracks from machines and courses from previous games in
the Ridge Racer franchises, Like yes, so do all the other ones.
Yeah, nice going, guys, all you guys do the only thing they've
done to Ridge Racer over the years. Was our four when they came with
a jog Con and that was pretty sweet. John was dope. And then
they added turbo when they put it on the PSP, and then that was
in like Ridge Racer six and seven. Wow, there's been that many.
I didn't even know that. Yeah, yeah, so yeah, I know,
I agree entirely. I think that. So they have to, you
know, and it's nice that they're at least trying to do something though this
is ridiculous. This is but isn't Ridge Racer. I mean, this is
not the kind of ridiculous that Ridge Racer has been. But it's not like
there's this like a serious pedigree for the series. It's crazy cars doing crazy
things. Well, there's Ridge Racer has a fan base, but you know,
it's probably not big enough to matter. If I had to guess,
yeah, so why not take some chances with it? Obviously, you know,
they had to have known going in that, putting that trailer out and
saying what they said about that game was not going to do them any favors
with the handful of people that still hold Ridge Racer deer. But for them,
there's Ridge Racer in the three DS, and you know, I'm sure
they'll make normal. I just yeah, I don't. I don't think this,
Yeah, this doesn't cancel out any other regular Well, it's like the
last time Namco did something crazy with racing. They put out that R Racing
Evolution in like two thousand and three or something, and it was like a
simulation style it was. It was closer to a simulation was that four.
It was the Xbox and PS two and maybe a GameCube R colon remember Racing
Evolution, and it was not a good game. And I remember at the
time thinking like, oh, this is gonna be like the big Ridge Racer
reboot. And I have to imagine at some point they were thinking about calling
it something that tied it a little more closely to Ridge Racer, though are
considered Racing R four That's what I said. I thought you said Revolution.
No, no, because there's Ridge Racer Revolution. That wouldn't be good.
Point. Well, whatever, the cover of this looks like a Ridge Racing
game kind of does it kind of does so at some point that probably was
a Ridge Racer game, and they held back, like even with like Japanese
Computer Girl in racing outfits, it's even her, I think, isn't it
isn't it actually anyway? Whatever, whatever, So it's nice that they're trying
something like at least, you know, let's let's hold out like obviously it's
not gonna be the Ridge Racer game that that every other Ridge Racer game has
been. But every other Ridge Racer game has been that game. They've got,
They've covered you, they've taken care of you. Yeah. Exclusive,
they just keep rereleasing games with old courses and stuff in it, like,
yeah, who cares, give it a shot? Yeah, do something,
Let's see what happens. That's and that totally my feeling on on that end.
Uh, and that I think is Namco. Uh that's a rep now
band I Yeah they got Power Rangers. Yeah, yeah, they're band E.
That's the apparently apparently the Power Rangers were there. Why so we lose
Jailer. Yeah, we didn't see Joey that day. Unfortunately, was Amy
Joe Johnson there, Yeah, but in costume so she could fuck that's just
Joey. I gotta wait going, it's kind of thing. I'll be write
back twenty minutes. Oh all right, so there's that. I'll let you
get to yours okay, oh wait, no, you go with yours?
You go ahead? Who's what now? Your next? Man, I don't
even know what we're talking about. Go ahead, dragon Age, go ahead?
We talking about dragon Age. Go ahead? Yeah, you guys went
and saw Dragon Age two, Dragon Age origins to go ahead? Yes,
okay, go ahead, turn down at your radio. I played here.
You played some of that, y Yeah, I played go Ahead three separate
sections. I kind of feel like I know more what the game is gonna
be like now, the not totally. I mean, it's hard to make
a judgment because so they what version were you playing? I played Xbox I.
If it was entirely up to me, if I had my druthers,
I probably would have played it on the PC, just because I feel like
that is where the big that question mark is on this game, Like it's
still gonna be a PC focused game. Is it gonna because they already said,
like, you can't pull the camera as far out, you can't make
it an Infinity Engine game basically yea, but just the technical nature of pulling
footage, like getting direct feed from an Xbox is easier, So so we
went with that. It was really funny before the event one of their pr
people was I aming me asking what kind of character we wanted for the event.
They were like, what gender do you want? It was like a
female? Did they have your character? And I was like, why don't
you make her brunette? No, actually we ended up just using like a
stock awesome that. I guess that's tough. Actually, I told him,
I told him if we actually didn't give a shit, so we just played
it like a stock male warrior. But but they had. The point is
they had three different saves at three different, like very distinctly different parts of
the game, and it was like probably ten to twenty minutes of content per
save, so kind of hard to get like a broad picture of how everything's
gonna fit together exactly. But three different areas that I played in seemed very
mass effect esque in like in the sense that it was like really directed,
like sort of everything was fun funneling you in one direction, definitely from the
from when I saw it a while ago, and very narrow path consistent with
your experience. I didn't I never seen sadly never got around to play in
DAO, so I don't know if it's similar. I assume that was a
lot more kind of it was a lot more hitting the map and like all
these passages that kind of spider off into different dead ends or something. But
I mean, for all I know, these were all like specific little dungeony
areas that kind of spawn off a big math. It was really very tough
to get kind of the bigger picture of what was going on. I do
know you never made it to the second floor. You never saw the like
the city stuff they were showing. I think you were upstairs the whole time.
I think that part of the city stuff. They're like, you're some
city that you're in. I don't know the name of it though, probably
all just yeah, okay, they're like different districts to the city. It
was like, you know, there's a old town and stuff like that.
But so like when you would exit one of those, you would just kill
rats, all right, go to the basement. Like when you would exit
one area, you would get like a big sort of like static map with
just icons of other areas and you just like pick an icon and kind of
warped to it. Is that similar, Yeah, okay, so that sounds
kind of the same. Just such a mass effect vibe from like the UI
and then the menus stuff like well, I mean the first Origins used you
know, radial menus. Yeah, but this is the influence is much heavier
here, Like they've got the straight up the conversation wheel. Uh. It's
so similar that when you're talking to a guy and you've moved into okay,
I can keep talking to him, or I can move on. It's investigate
on the left or let's get a move on on the right. Basically like
just exactly the same. Yeah, like when you hit that in and of
itself, it is not necessarily bad. It's not a bad thing. I'm
just saying they have taken some really specific cues from the other big game that
The Byway is doing. Uh. So it was interesting to see for me
to see the console version because having played it through on the PC. Uh,
the UI looks completely different on the three sixty. Everything is is mapped,
h what seems like. But again again that was true in origins.
I played both versions and they were wildly different, right, So it's really
interesting to see kind of going down on the three sixty. It seems intelligently
kind of mapped onto the control as best you can, I guess. Yeah,
for a lot of that stuff where you we do have to dig in
a little deeper to get to your spells at points. I mean, the
way it works. I don't know if this is probably similar to the first
one, but you've got so A is just attack. It's just like hammer
on the A button and you're going to swing whatever you're holding. The other
three face buttons are map two specific abilities, and you hold a trigger to
like change those to another set, which I think is basically how they had
it set up. Sounds about sounds about the same. And then you did
you do the whole like palsy action and pull up a big wheel if you
want to get all the rest of you Yes, totally. But here here's
where it seemed interesting to me, and just watching you play, it seemed
like the actions as you were doing them were like you'd hit one of your
spells and you'd immediately jump into some kind of combat thing. That seemed a
lot more like as you hit it, yeah you're rolling in or or you
know. I mean, I think that's probably where you would feel the mass
effect influence the most. Is like one of their big pushes with this game
is we want the action to feel more like action. It feels very immediate.
We want to not beat feel as much like D and D dice rolls.
It's the first game Red, like the Fighter I was playing or the
Warrior had like a charge move, and like you would want to actively like
a line as many guys up as you could before you could use that just
to get the maximum damage, and so and so. The parts that I
think speak to some of that are the first boss battle that you were playing.
It wasn't really the boss battle, but the first big encounter you got
into that we saw where you were just actively dodging the dude's moves, like
you're rolling out of the way and it would charge you, yeah, and
you're trying to position yourself behind him and get in there. And then there
was another fight where you were actual hiding behind pillars to avoid attacks. You
fight this big sort of like rock demon thing that like once in a while,
I'll get in the middle of this. You're in this like the crypt
area within the pillars, and he'll like rise up in the air and kind
of charge up, and like the immediate visual que is I need to get
the fuck out of the way, So you run over behind the pillar and
then he just like starts emitting all this energy that flies everywhere except like directly
behind those pillars. So there's definitely some like timing elements and a lot of
kind of positioning yourself properly and stuff like. Yeah, and so I did
see some of the PC stuff. I was watching some other people play the
PC stuff, and it seemed to play very similar to the original Dragon Age
where you're just kind of pausing queuing up and you have you have your bar
on the bar. It definitely has the big fat icon bar with like zillion
icons on it. I thought, look, it's good. I actually I
was coming in with lower expectations that I left with, and uh, I
was kind of excited to see that I am back on the Dragon Age.
Go Go Go train. You did like one one hundred hours in the first
one or something I did and then lost I lost my save for Awakening and
I never never got to finish that. Now I do how do you?
How do you feel about this kind of I feel like there's the other big
thing is this is not just a direct continuation of the first game. It's
not just like Shepherd's back and better than ever, this could have nothing to
do with your original character if you don't want it to How do you feel
about that? Uh, well, that you can have it, you know,
if you want to put still the import or whatever. When you import
you play as a character Yead. In fact, Yeah, what they've said
is I think it's just the more like the decisions or the things that happened
with the broader implications or the things that will show up, which are probably
just kind of like, you know, three lines here or there, queen,
Yeah, what not practically, oh much. I'm into being a lot
thinks here's my space dream. So yeah, it's probably just that me personally,
there's a there There are too many ways that game ended to make that.
They already did weird things in Awakening, which we were just like,
you can't do that, Like, that's not how it's totally well that that's
how it happened, so okay, fine, And so in order to do
that, it would have been really weird. So it doesn't bother me that
much. I'll go to my mass Effect three for that. And would it
bother you if this turned out to be the same universe as Mass Effects just
hundreds, if thousands of years prior. Well, it's already obviously the same
universe as Dead Space. Yeah right, because I want to say someone at
BioWare already said now okay to that idea. Well, when you open the
portal and they right come through, right, I mean that's the end of
mass Fact. Then it pops up a big splash screen and it's like,
hey, by massact me, it doesn't have to be the same universe,
right three versus mass Effects. They opened up this portal and then these Jedi
come falling out. What and the Jedi love those guys for playing the demo.
Check out three play Nights. Please the Old Republic come, come and
play the Old Republic for no. We need to know, like everyone,
tell people, all you fuckers, tell everyone you know Star Wars. Sign
your hours though there's another one, don't get that one. Sign your pets
up for it free free thirty days, free, three days for all pets.
Goldfish, saw your pet up, we give you a free pet.
Great, think about that. I'm on board. I liked what I saw.
Yeah, it seems cool. The combat was pretty pretty fun. It
seemed a lot to move, just a lot faster, which will make a
lot of people. I know a lot of people who were just like I
just don't want to start that ball rolling because I just don't want to put
eighty hours into a game. And it could the dragon Age Origin stuff.
Yeah, dragon Age Origins could drag. They're just parts where you're just like
cleaning out dungeons and drag. And this was like the part you played were
just like here's the start over, like almost an instance, start this instance
and like go and within ten minutes you were up to a big fight.
Sure, it just didn't have that storyline. Now was that part of everyone's
experience with dragon Age or is that you just going on, I'm going to
clear out this dungeon. Well, like I said, there are a lot
of like do I go down this path? And am I good on this
path? At dead end? But it's probably a lot of mine. They
claim there is as much or more optional content as the first one. Also,
I don't know if this was a big deal for you, but with
your with your party now you might get an option to a dialogue option within
the tree to talk to one of your party members who might know a little
bit more about something you're talking about, whereas in dragon Age Origins they would
just chime in if you had the right party member with you. They'd be
like, well, I'm a wizard and that looks fucked up. And now
you could be like, hey, we're talking to all these wizards. You're
a wizard. Why don't you handle this and chime in on this conversation?
Tree. I would buy a T shirt that says I'm a wizard and that
looks fucked well, you should subscribe Whiskey Media Freemium memberships side up today because
you're I'm a wizard. I'm a wizard and that wizard and that looks fucked
up? Why why should I care for you have to say about this?
Look, guys, I'm a wizard whoa okay? And that looks I just
want to say I didn't know going into this. Yeah, I didn't know
you were a Wizard's cool? I should not. I should have figured that
out. Well, it's like, you know, it's either I'm doing this
or I'm going heading to the Jamiric Whi concert and I get the Jameric Qui
concert. Things. Yeah, I mean I just assume JIC. So so
I apologize I didn't know your a wizard. I thank you for clarifying that
obviously that it has driving me virtually insane, all the people saying that I
am into jam it's dragging the two was pretty good God to interview. We
definitely have any content that's up on the side, video content. We hope
video out there. You should. You should watch it if it's there,
if not, trying to picture if it's still there. Yeah, we'll see
looking forward to see come out. I guess the character stuff is the only
only thing that kind of bugs me out a little bit with like it's you
play as, you play as guy or a girl, right, yes,
yeah, and it's not like no more origin stories. I guess we're not
in origin anymore. But that was some of my favorite stuff from that well,
I mean, mass Effect, you are Shepherd, but you still get
to pick an origin story. I mean yeah, but like not like in
Dragon Age. You're talking about it. You're talking about like yeah, like
the opening of Dragon Age. Yeah, you're like I'm a I'm a dwarf
and prince or like I'm an Elvish. Yeah. I mean, actually,
come to think of it, me and you have both played through the intro
of that game with different characters, and it's exactly the same because remember they
brought it by here and you play. Yeah, I just wondered, like
the way that they're showing this game off, I wonder if they got the
feedback of when they were showing the first game off that, like all this
shit just looks totally overwhelming, like because they showed when whenever they showed the
first Dragon Age, uh, like, they would always emphasize like you can
make a billion different decisions with eighty five party members and everything can be fucking
completely crazy in a complex, old school RPG kind of way. And for
a certain you know, part of the audience people like, fuck, yeah,
remember when we went to that event in La Yeah, and they're showing
the PC version. Yeah, They're like, no one's beat this. They're
like, hey, hey, we gotta say for you wants to try it,
you know, and then and then you obviously are gonna wipe on it.
And they were like, oh, yeah, by the way, this
one of the hardest bosses game nobody today has beaten that. I'm like,
oh, also, I haven't played it for the sixty hours that would have
gotten me up to this point, so I don't know. I don't have
the intricacies of my party down and I didn't set the reading the tooltip on
every one of the twenty spells on my balls. So I mean that was
always the problem with them showing off the first game was you'd be like,
Okay, well this seems cool. If I had played the twenty hours up
to this point, I bet this is awesome. But since I haven't,
like, I can't really get anything meaningful out of this hands on time because
it's it's too much to just sit down and be like, all right,
I'm suddenly playing dragon Age and this is so I feel like they're being very
deliberate with two of showing more isolated, more controlled, you know, easier
to stand. I think it also works out because they do have a first
game out that's true that they can kind of say, well, you know,
in the first game, we had this, this game, we're doing
this, so there's at least that point of comparisons. But I think that
that's fostering the concern that they are just dumbing it down hell out of this,
which sounds like maybe they're not. Maybe they're not, at least not
as much as some people are worried. The skull trees and stuff are still
a yeah, yeah, so I should say as much as some parts of
the U I feel like mass Effect. And another part that's really weird is
when you pause it, you get start, you get that exact same like
radial menu with basically the same options as Mass Effect. I think that was
in the that was in the origins as well. Yeah, I mean maybe
that's just stared, but it just a lot of this stuff feels really reminiscent.
But anyway, like with Mass Effect too, like the kind of some
of their solutions for the more convoluted gameplay systems were to reduce them almost out
of existence, you know, like the inventory and stuff. Yeah, like
this definitely still has a big fat list of swords and armor and stuff that
you can turn on and off. We're about torches. Do I need to
have torches to lightweight like a path much? But the hate being somewhere and
then it gets dark and we got no torch. But also the sucks the
skill stuff in particular, like you know, the class is mass fact.
It's like every class has four skills and upgrade them more, don't But the
fighter alone, there were like six different disciplines with probably six to eight skills
per one of the tech trees. Torch, Yeah, I hate flame hands
one of them is infinite blow jobs. I'm gonna mind Max just just that's
that's my preference, is the rumor, right, that's kind of dug.
The art style, I like it. I don't know, it looks like
Dragon Age. It's I feel like they got more personality. It's a little
more comical. It's a little more like swords are huge and like it's more
exaggerated. Yeah big, actually, yeah, you're right that that two handed
sword that guy had, Like the hilt alone on that thing was like as
big as most and that and that hammer that giant like mouths. Not to
like Final Fantasy extremes though, is it is it like not not too such
a cartoonish degree. It's not like it's like pinball score definitely stands out.
I think it's I think it helps. I think that game needed more distinctive
personality arts. Like the first game to me was like we have made our
extremely standard fantasy. Elves are elves, Dwarves are dwarves. Yeah exactly,
yeah, just you know you you're you're Tolkien derivative low fantasy. Yeah.
Now there's now it's like all right, well we can make some stuff crazier
and you still get blooded up real good. They do all you do that
is to a cartoonish degree. The first it was crazy too. It's like
you literally took a blood beat. I think the guy had some perma blood
across this that that's a that's like a customization thing you pick to have,
like a smear, always have blood. I think I'm pretty sure I saw
that blood permanent facebood And that's just when they have their conversations, after they're
soaked in blood. We should go take a nap. I can't see.
This ship is fucked. Yeah, I'm a wizard. This ship is fucked.
I want you to know that I'm supposed to be far away casts and
spells. There would be no love on me, so this is I don't
even know if my spells make like make people bleed. He remember when I
wiped on that that fight. Remember when I was like, everybody's dead and
now I have to fight this guy alone. When they bred a pye bred
everybody wiped and you had to fight it with one guy too, sucks horrible
battle of attrition of like, oh that cool. And then on Friday,
I went to a bunch of drew and I went to a series of sweets
in a hotel in San Francisco to look at some Atari goods. What can
you talk about? I could talk about their downloadable slate that they have coming
up, including Yards Revenge, of which we have a quick look e x
up on the site that's already out. You check that out. What's that?
All these all game room releases make basketball making a new I'm not going
to play this game with you, Jack, Dungeons and Dragon Dagger Fall.
No, Dungeons Dragons Daggered Dale. There we go. What's that? Uh?
Like action RPG, Dungeon Crawler sitting the D and D universe, Like
Dark Alliance, I think sub Dark Alliance, but you know there's loots,
there's there's hammering on buttons to stab. Sub Dark Alliance like in terms of
complexity, yes, yes, yes, yes, of not quite that level.
Also, I mean again, you can pull the camera out if you
so choose to, but the camera seems a little more third person. He
you can go, you know, four player co in the back is yeah,
yeah, you know, four player co op. What was it like
Human Fighter, Elvin Rogue, Uh, behold the Dwarf Wizard, Thira,
the Valkyrie like that, but but like that kind of thing where it's like
it's the the class end the race are bound, like that's that's your one
of There are four characters to choose from what you know, what what what
class you want to play as determines who your character is and that's this is
downloadable. It should be in the spring. Played through a little kind of
you know, Dungeon the sequence and it seemed promising. I like that style
of game. Uh it's you know, but their thing was like, hey,
you know, we realized that D and D fans don't want everything.
Everything does not need to be uh never Winter Nights as far as the the
seriousness and the depth of the the role playing elements, like you can have
stuff that's a little lighter, and that's kind of what we wanted to do
with this. Are there cobalts in it? Very probably awesome? Maybe bugbears
mmm, bacco. It's maybe starting to get a little gelatinous cube. Man.
When you saw the gelatinous cubes and dark Alliances, awesome that there sick
fucking gelatinous cubes too. It's one of the good things about that realm of
the Mad God browser game. Oh yeah, hello cubes. There's a lot
of cubes. Gelatinous the gelatinous cube one of my favorite D and D tropes.
This cube you just see you just see, yeah, well and you
see like the bones floating in him. That's great, He's fantastic. I
don't like that. I like that. I like my gelatinous Cube's cute.
No see, I like ChB gelatinous cube. I love the idea of jelatics
Cube SD. It's the gelatics cube sounds so dumb, and the idea that
it could even be sinister. I think it's really funny. Why does it
maintain its cubic shape? Why? Why anything? Why did? Why did
Gary Gygax say, you know what would be great is if there was he
was jello squares, he was taking vodka or you know, doing jello shots.
Yeah, it just came to him. We've gotten around of the sewers
underneath our city with nothing but jello shots to keep him company. He said,
these things are a monster man, and then he's walking on a real
bad I think that looks potentially cool. And then also, uh, Ghostbusters
Slime, which is being made by I can't remember what they called now,
but formerly want to go the assault heroes people and assault Heroes too. This
kind of reminds me of like the underground on foot sections of Assault Heroes.
Huh, except you're playing as no name Ghostbusters. What universe are we in
this? The Ghosts Ghostbusters universe? It's you know, because if it were
me making that game, I wouldn't even try to explain it. It seems
like they're kind of like, it's not the original Ghostbusters. Yeah, we
had we made up some new Ghostbusters I don't franchise. Yeah, like you
don't need to explain it. There have been plenty of cases where they've done
that in the past with you know, all the weird Ghostbusters stuff, so
they seemed, uh, well whatever, I guess that wasn't the real Ghosts.
They seemed pretty realistic about expectations on that one of like, you know
whatever, it's got the Ghostbusters in it. You hear the proton pack.
There was some some weird color coded combat in it, so you could hit
hit a bumper, So it was uh so you went from proton pack to
this other kind of attack that you could shoot out, and then like enemies
of like that were yellow you would want to shoot with one thing, and
enemies that were red you'd want to shoot with the other thing. Crap,
pretty pretty simple, it seemed, m boomed. I don't know they came.
They came, looks like a Xbox Live arcade and PlayStation network down a
little bit title. It is a joystick shooter, it is. It is
a top down dual joystick shooter. You can cross the streams? What you
can cross the streams? Don't you think you have to? Don't you don't?
But don't? Yeah, for one, logistically, don't you have to?
But also don't you think that at some point the Ghostbusters would work out
that kink in their technology laws of physics. Man, don't mess around.
Imagine every adam in your body. See that seems like if you're going to
try and make a serious business around these proton packs, like that's a really
serious Yeah, that's it's anything you wants to shut them down considerable? Bug
Me just says, yeah, that that's just comes with the territory. But
no, you bootstrapped dangerous times, dangerous tools. But then you refine your
bootstrap and then you figure out how to make it something that you could give
to a franchise e. Who's to say that problem can be corrected? This
game enough this game. This game says, oh wait, I thought you.
I was waiting for you to explain the consequence of crossing those streams.
There is no I'm saying that. They say, they said you cross streams,
And at first I was like, I'm like, yeah, why not?
Why not? I was waiting for you to be like, yeah,
you can cross streams. And then it kicks you straight to the dashboard and
the racist you're safe and then says busting made me feel good, and red
rings your colors. Go ahead and go cross those streams like nuts. Because
Ray Parker Junior one of the stbusters in this game, so they make him
an honorary Nah, I don't think so, manjukay alright, pretty simple,
pretty simple game. Yeah. It was like a three player co op,
two player co op or player co op player co op. Slimmer was there?
I shot Slimmer. Is it really Slimmer? Yeah, the real Slimmer.
It's the real Ghostbusters real Slimmer action figure set. It's good that they
were able to get the likeness rights for him. The level I played took
place in the Sedgewick Hotel. It seems like they're they're pulling a lot of
like supporting characters. Wait a minute, so you're not the real Ghostbusters,
but it still takes place in the city where the real Ghostbusters applied their trade,
or have at least at some point applied there. So it's not like,
hey, you're in some other city and you're a new ghost It's conceivable
twenty eleven, it's conceivable that they would have retired. Okay, all right,
okay, I think I actually would have liked if they were like across
the country. There's this other come up Ghostbuster team that is like, we
could do that bed. One day the Hollywood they woke up and the Hollywood
sign was covered in burning slime, right, and they're like, oh man,
there are ghosts here too. Here's our approach. We can cross the
fucking streams. I don't know what you guys were doing. East Coast don't
know shit about busting ghosts. East Coast, West Coast moucking ghosts, jumping
through the oh in Hollywood sign which turned into a portal. We got a
cross streams to close said portal thing. No wizard, what do you think?
And just Wizard is like one of the street talking new Ghostbusters. What
a wizard? I believe the black character does wear his hat backwards. Oh
man, yeah, yeah, and what else did they show? That's all
I can talk about. Okay, oh, I said Yards Revenge. I
don't know about Yards Revenge. It's a railshooter and it's like it is,
isn't it a panther dragoon e kind of thing? Else? Yeah, they
compared it to to Res and uh fuck I for remember something else? Sin
and Punishment. Yeah, Sin and Punishment res where the games they compared to
because of the kind of the combo system that was in place there. Uh
for Kyo, some lock on, but also free targeting, so it's not
all just like you have a melee attack, because that, to me is
kind of the thing that differentiates Sin and Punishment from No. But I will
tell you this. When you turn on your shields, it looks like the
fucking shield for all the other crazy shit that they did to the art style.
Like while they've kind of like blaze their own weird anime path for the
look of that game, it looks like the shield around the coat shield just
that block them the bar. It looks like that. It has that like
crazy random color pattern feel to it, except it's circular and goes around you.
Are you your yes? But that thing's like just interference that you can't
shoot when you're inside that field. Like that doesn't play, man, They're
not true to the fiction. You don't. You know what. I'm sorry,
Jeff. You don't get to be upset about anything about what they do
for friends? Do they have that? Do they license that song by the
fucking Champs for it? No? That does not seem like the style they're
going for. All right, it is a download game. All of these
are downloadable. All of these are downloadable games. Yeah, none of these
would play as full disc releases. So good on Atari for kind of making
a strong push or at least making a push on their their downloadable stuff,
all of this stuff. At least that also kind of sounds better than Haunted
House, at least for at least for this, you know, if that's
what they're aiming for. Is is the Spring and House come out? It
did? We did a quick look of it. Hated House, That's all
I've got. You don't you don't know, Oh fucking you don't know.
Jack is awesome, you guys, This comes out this week, and it's
awesome if you guys like you don't know Jack, I pre ordered a cup.
Did she get it? I did? I love I love it.
Hopefully it will come. It's great. How do you feel about the value
proposition there? I think it's really solid. But again, I love you
don't know, like I love the old games. I've paid fifty dollars for
less than what I'm getting here, like trivia. Yeah, and for seeing
it stuff like you know, even for old for when you don't know Jack
was on the PC originally in the nineties when forty to fifty dollars was a
lot more. Yeah, I was. I was buying you don't know Jack
games and enjoying them and feeling I was getting my money's worth out of them.
So I paid thirty bucks. Is that on sale or is that a
that's the best, that's how much it is, okay, because on Amazon
it was like, so Amazon has the slash, but if you go to
game Stop, it's just thirty bucks. Okay. So I first I saw
that, I felt like, oh no, did I misspeak and say it
was thirty bucks when really it's forty and it's only gonna be thirty for a
little bit. And then being weird, I don't know what what's up with
Amazon? But uh, yeah, I looked at game Stop for it and
it's it's thirty buck. I mean that that many questions and that's sleep like
a production, seven hundred and twenty questions. Steal You're You're You're gonna a
ton of questions. The the the quality of the trivia is incredibly high.
It's got a great sense of humor. I just feel like they couldn't get
that that flow. If they randomize it, you get a yeah. But
the outside is the you can basically only play that game once with any given
group of people, and arguably only once period, and then like the challenge
aspect of it is going to go away. It has it has a single
use. I agree, but I think that the I think there's more upside
to the format that they chose downside because the past it's been randomized. Uh.
And the problem is that in any trivia game like that, the first
time you see a question for the second time the magic is over. Your
interest in that game immediately plummets. It's like, oh, I'm already looping
on the trivia questions. Fantastic le up front about how it all works.
It's like they're like, hey, so just don't play this episode again.
So these questions, you've used them up. But even more like this is
from a genre that you would typically whip out when people come over your house,
you know, like it's something you want to play in a group.
Sure, a couple of episodes. How many episodes are that's the thing.
There's a ton of them. Okay, I guess that's kind of a lot.
But you know at some point you're gonna run out. Yeah, and
but there's there's also gonna be a DLC. Yeah, they're gonna support.
They do a lot of support. And then that's cool. I feel like
the base number justifies it. Uh. I mean there's a lot of banter
in there. First again, again, price wise, it is a perfectly
fine value. It's just that it's it's so good that you kind of wanted
to go on forever, right, I mean, I mean the danger there
is I could easily see, you know, see one accidentally just burning through
the whole thing. I'm not wanting to quit of Like that's the con Trivia
is so good and these questions are funny, and I love this format.
Let's keep going. You could go through it in a week and then like
oh no, when are they gonna make another one of these? I did
it without my friends, and now now it's now I'm gonna beat them now.
It's not fun for them when I know all the answers beat them soundly.
I was impressed, honestly, again as a fan of the old you
know Jack games, how closely they stuck to I expected much more to be
changed in the overall format, but like dis or dats and and the Jack
attack and screws and even even just kind of the the behind the scenes banter
that that you hear ramping up to the start of the episode and then the
post episode stuff and the fake commercials, like they just hit the tone and
the structure just seems like they made another one of those games exactly. They
didn't around like this is a you don't Know Jack for a new generation.
This is another you don't Know Jack? Why did it? But I feel
like it's I feel like it still plays. Yeah, I don't know,
I'm saying that, you know, that makes it retro or whatever. It's
not like trivia games. Well, but I mean that's that's kind of the
thing. Is like they just they kind of just stopped, like they I
feel like they just resupped saturation on the PCs. They were doing like online
stuff for a while, they were like they were they were speramenting all kinds
of crazy business. Yeah, around around nine in two thousand, they were
doing crazy weekly shows that they were producing on the web that were somebody builder
in here. Somebody needs to be held to account for the missing years of
Jelly Vision that were really good. Uh. And then they did that again
leading up to this release. Yeah, I wonder what just what happened to
Jelly Vision. I don't know, It's weird that they were able to still
exist for all of those years that they weren't making you don't know jack games,
But here they are with a new you don't know, like burning through
their money and like shit time. Yeah, I mean, it's it's got
to this like the point of diminishing returns, where it's like where the new
stuff's not moving? All right, what's gonna hang out? Let's make a
jack game? Well, you have to. I think it was. It
needed. It needed to switch platforms and needed to not just be this PC
only thing, right because the time that it first came out, you couldn't
make those games on other systems. Right, you could not make you don't
know jack work or multi media? That was that was multimedia MPC two to
play. You don't know, ja, God damn right you did. That's
out this week. I think it's I think it's a delight. And we're
out of time. Oh man, what we're out of time? Like for
good We're like two hours. Oh it's what we're done. Yeah, no
news, enough finished our podcast, dude, there's a ton of news is
there? Like what I mean, I can't talk rumors about Halo being remade
for the Xbox three sixty as the ten year anniversary of Halo Combat Evolved is
upon us. Makes sense. They're saying that saber, those fine folks working
on inversion might be working on it, and no, it's one of those
things that like zero official confirmation, but is being reported in such a way
that it does make sense, right Yeah, where it's like you guys are
using a kind of knowing language where you're like, well, I know that
no one at Microsoft is going to flat out deny this story, but I
also not gonna get a confirmation. So if I just say supposedly a lot,
than I can get away with it. Yeah, at least that's that's
the feeling that I get from that. Uh, Battlefield nineteen forty three is
not coming to the PC, big ethan surprise, because because they need to
put more dudes onto crazy Battlefield three trailers like the one they put out last
week where it's where plane through flew through an exploding helicopter. I didn't see
that, And they said it's got sixty four dudes on the PC, so
it'll still be giant. It's sixty four still giant. I guess how many
how many games other than Battlefield and and Mag is like a weird experimental outlier
though, where that's the whole point of the game. It's not just a
service of you're right, yeah, mag is still cool. It's just so
how many people per team? It's sixty four total total and then twenty four
total on console. I think it's what they're saying, four a lot of
dudes, which at some point you start to wonder, why would you even
make a console version if you're going to make it that different game, And
the answer, of course, money, money, money, money, money,
money mon n Oh, did you guys saw you playing a little yes,
a little Assassin's Creed? I left it on pause all weekend. I
just kept coming back to it. No, No, I finished one.
Oh congratulations, I am deep into two. That's why I was like sitting
here like clinching my fists when you said that we were out of No.
No, let's talk about assass screed. Really, yeah, we can save
it till next week. No, no, no, I mean I'll probably
have finished two by next week. I want. Well, let's check in.
Are you enjoying two more than a dude? Right? Oh my god?
How much? I can't even imagine because I'm going from one to the
next. Liked the space of less than twenty four hours trapped in a coffin
because I had like a year, right, or like two years. See,
I can't imagine finishing the first one when it was new. Yeah,
like I would have thrown it out the window. I would have taken a
shit on the disk. You know. It's like that Halo two syndrome of
the ending is so frustrated. It wasn't the ending so much? Is that
just like you guys made half a game, like you stretched out, came
up with this like really amazing framework, and then didn't make a fun game
around it. You know, at the time, you know, it was
since it was so new and we didn't have the yeah, the perspective we
have now, Like like at the time the original Assassin's Creed was it was
fantastic. I remember at the time thinking like like, there's a lot of
stuff really great, but yeah, there there are things about it where you're
like, man, this this stuff makes it really hard to love Assassin.
I mean, yeah, I burned out on it originally, specifically because there's
like three mission types and it's just the same ship. I definitely got something
out of just like the the dynamic climbing up a tower, doing this,
the synchronization scan, like I just I got a little kick out of that
every single time. That stuff is beautiful, Like that's yeah, it is.
I did all of those. I did every viewpoint in the first game
because because it's amazing. It looks great. So what's going on too?
That's got you so, I don't know. I mean, the reasons so
much more approachable and enjoyable have been so well documented. I don't think we
need to spend a lot of time on the way it's a proper it's a
proper open world game, Like there's enough variety that you're always there's always something
nearby to do that you haven't done in so long that you wouldn't mind doing
it again. Have you even become an assassin yet? With it's you?
How do you define becoming an assassin? I've got two blades? Okay?
Does that count? Yes? Okay? Yeah, I mean I'm I'm on
like sequence five. Oh okay, so you played more than a little bit.
Oh yeah, I'm like ten hours into it. Okay, I don't
know. I just turned it on. My villa is as renovated as it
can be. Uh, how much? How great is that ship? I
hate? I hate that you have to go back to get your money every
time though. That's well Brotherhood, yeah, I know, I'm sure that's
coming. I mean, this is already so much. It's it's it's its
own thing. In Brotherhood it kind of spends out in a weird way.
But how how great is it? And they make less of a deal out
of it in Brotherhood? But I still figured out that you could do it,
and I would do it all the time. Love throwing money on the
street. I love just the the animation, the flagrance with which et CEO
just tosses coins as like what and then everybody goes ape shit and everyone loses
it, like diving Fornmanmanni. Did you guys play that game in Italian a
little bit? Did you do that? I tried that. I tried that
for about an hour. It's kind of cool. It's kind of weird.
Yeah, that's all right. I think it's good. The subtitles are not
as pervasive as they need to be if you're gonna do that, though,
like none of the none of the ambient dialogue gets translated, right. Yeah,
there's definitely don't know what anybody's saying, and even some of the some
of the Italian will just show up in Italian and the subtitles. That's that's
the frustrating part. It didn't really come on. But the weird part is
that it's different Italian than what you're saying. Oh yeah, yeah, sure,
they say different words and then the subtitle has a different word. It's
just weird. Did you speak any time? I can enough to know that
when the word they're saying it is not the word that's right. Because because
my girlfriend was watching me play it and said we should get you over there,
and I was like, I don't. I know he's Italian and everything,
but what sort of subtitling do you guys prefer when it comes to stuff
like that, Like there there are a lot of games like because I played
Dead Space too with the subtitles on, really and there are things that you
couldn't really like opening like opening of the game dialogue. So I didn't.
I didn't. You don't necessarily pick out because it's all scratchy, and I
didn't. I didn't bring that into radio of that game. Yeah, that
is a problem with that game, But you turn on the subtitles and it's
all right there, clear as day, And do you think that's good or
bad? I don't know. I like, at some point it was good
to know what that stuff was, but I felt like it lost some of
the ambiance of you're not really supposed to pick out every single word of this
sentence. So that was the That was the visceral defense of that issue.
One of those guys posted in the neo gap thread for that game saying specifically,
it's like a lot of psychological like stuff that's supposed to be in his
head, basically, the stuff that's hardest to understand, like stuff that's mixed
in such a way that you can't really understand it, right, And they
came out saying like, well, you know, those are supposed to be
like hallucinations and stuff, so if you don't get every word and every nuance,
it's just supposed to add texture to his insanity. But right, it
doesn't look like it's like it's not that's not developing the story. Yeah,
yeah, that kind of sounds like a cop out to me. I don't
know, like I think that that's that's the right answer. I think that
that's that's definitely the right move because the things that are being screamed at you
by Nicole here and there early on not really important. Sure, even though
it does kind of come back around, like the kind of core phrase that
she keeps, you know, saying here and there is not necessarily something that
you need to get every time she says it. Sure, and there's stuff
at the very beginning where there's a tideman said his name runs in the station,
where he's given the order to kind of execute everybody. Uh, that
you don't necessarily pick out the first time you hear it unless you're running really
fast to get closer to where the audio is sourced from and and so yeah,
I don't know. Like, on one hand, I appreciated being able
to see every single bit that they wrote for it. On the other hand,
it definitely like anything that was supposed to be ambient, anything it was
supposed to be kind of spooky and crazy, uh, was stripped away to
just words on the screen and the script. I just absolutely something to be
said for you know what you can't hear or s. Yeah, Like I
feel like they should have. They should have, like Sun said, like
you know, garbled. Yeah. I think the thing about the subtitles,
they could have made it more clear upfront that you didn't need to hear that
stuff, and in fact, it might be better if you didn't, because
I feel personally that I've been trained to try to pick out every single word
that's thrown at me. Yeah, just to absorb as much information about the
game world as possible. And so every time she would start babbling about something,
I would pause and go into the menu and turn on the subtitles just
long enough to see that stuff, because you couldn't understand it otherwise. Interesting
anyway, I'm playing AC two with no subtitles in English, and I went
back, Uh, well, I'm glad you're enjoying. That feels like the
right way. The only thing that feels weird is that it feels like it's
kind of more garish than the first game, Like First Assassin's Creed. Like
for all of its faults, it had a really uniquely kind of austere quality
to it. Sure, you know what I mean, But I think I
think that reflects the times, like flamboyant, like he yeah, he feels
like the protagonist and like a Bruckheimer movie, like just you know, Devil,
Devil make Care, very brash, cocky badass. Yeah, sure,
I mean he's gotta, he's gotta come through on the other side. Yeah,
he's like a cocky badass that then a bunch of really rough things happened
to his entire family, and I can already he has to step it up
and be like, all right, I gotta. I can already see that
it's going that way. It's already he becomes more serious and yeah, I
don't know if is the statute of limitations up on what happens in this game.
As you haven't played it, turn to turn this off. When the
uh the Posse's launched their their scheme, like on the Sunday Morning services,
like the very like Godfather style, Yeah, Gangland Slaughter. Yeah, I
was just like, oh, like, I was running after those guys,
like actually failed the mission where you have to defend Lorenzo Medici. Yeah,
because the the posse guy who tried to kill him is supposed to get away,
right, and just kept chasing him over and over. I kept failing
that mission because I was trying to kill them without letting like. They definitely
make it for the assassinations feel so much more like personal and relevant to you.
Did you get to the uh the carnival? No? I love that.
I love that. I love that sex right just visually the stuff that
they that have stuff is great in that part is like Jeff said, that's
just fucked up. The game's already pretty fun. Assass him forward to seeing
what else happens. Uh, well, fantastic. I'm I'm happy to I'm
happy to check in with you again later. Yeah, I continue to set
screed. Could not be happier to be catching up on that stuff. I
don't know what the funk I was doing a year and a half ago when
you guys were all playing that game. You were saying, oh, I
gotta finish the first to say. Yeah, it's pretty much pretty much you're
saying, oh, but this preview event, I don't know. I'm glad
I finished the first one just to see side by side exactly how it changed.
Some of that story stuff is kind of cool. I don't know,
like I was already aware of the broad kind of underpinnings of the franchise of
storyline, like this kind of clash between two factions and stuff, and then
when you see that stuff play out in the first game, it's just like
a flatly delivered line of dialogue. Yeah, they don't really do it very
well. Like you pop out of the cinemas and Kristen Bell is just like,
oh, by the way, these guys are templars. Not so much
that part. It's more of the like the notes from from outside a kind
of cool like where the stuff went, where he went after the Assassin's Guild
was kind of demolished. Yeah, I think it's stuff that, like with
the where you got to in Assassin's Creed one, you could have just watched
the ending to that game in video form and been just as ready to go.
There's some cool stuff that are like, like not true of Assassin's Creed
too, not true at all. You gotta finish that ship because that game
goes tossome. Do not play Brotherhood with until you finished. I don't.
I don't know if I can do Brotherhood back to back with two that's already
did one and two. Wait a couple of years. It'll be fine.
No, I mean, you know, I'll give it a maybe I'll do
my dead Space run. That'll give you time to you know, play the
Assassin's Screed Brotherhood Facebook. I figure up your figure. I should finish Brotherhood
before you three in case, just in case. Yeah, there's there's sweet.
You heard it here first he said there's going to be another Assassin Screed
game. You heard if you had subtitles to this podcast on you already know
that from from these uh from last year. They said that, already said
we're gonna do another one of these. They said, like next year.
Even so, they said we're gonna bring keep busting these out because people seem
to like them. I'll play three and a half of them. I don't
know. You saw what There's gonna be a Madden NFL Football this year.
It turns out they showed us they showed a screenshot of it. You want
to have? They really like during the Super Bowl. I think the producer
look football. So yeah, it literally is a blurry screenshot like a phone
shot of a TV. And did you see it as a football field?
You're like, yep, they finally did it perfect. This ship is fucked
up? Uh you do? You guys want to know what's coming out this
week? Sure? Is that all the news? I want to know?
Is there any more news? I don't know? I bet we don't need
to talk about that at all. I'm saying we should, we should leave
soon. A bunch of people got it laid off at Harmonic's today and that's
a yesterday, and that's a bummer. That's bad news. It is restructuring,
putting people on different stuff. They're basically or out of or out entirely
new called Juarez announced Modern Era. It'll be gritty, modern era cowboys like
wild West game. But they actually say there are modern cowboys or anything in
it, or is it just set in ware? Is this guy? This
guy has a cowboy hat on, but then the girl behind him is like
wearing you know, shooting sunglasses. Yeah, that's like yellow some sort of
like border militia stuff going on, like this is getting I don't know,
Like he's wearing like a duster and scarrel he main do just looks like a
cowboy, like we's wearing a duster, but then also like a flak jacket
underneath it. And then also he's got a cowboy hat on. But then
a big pump action shot gun. Yeah, gritty, Yeah, I don't
know. That's drugs. Yeah, probably right, drugs or human smugglings that
hotel okay, drugs, drugs taken to play? Nah. I thought there
will be horses, so that'll be different. That's true, all right,
Yeah, that's it. New releases this week test Driving Limited two for Xbox
three sixty PC and PlayStation three. You don't know Jack for DS three sixty.
We NPS three Body and Brain Connection. Uh, that's a connect game
from Namco for Xbox three sixty. I believe that has like Doctor Cowwood statement.
We have a copy of trendy Souls of Zillol from techmok a t t
Racers and Stacking coming out of Xbox Live Arcade this week. Sacks out this
week fifteen buck on both systems unless you're a PlayStation plus subscriber Places Plus subscriber,
you get that ship free. That's crazy. That is crazy. That
is the best single application of PlayStation plus I have heard so far. I
wonder what wizards think about that. Uh. And then it's a great deal
PlayStation I'm a wizard and this is a great deal. PSN explode them on.
In addition to stacking explode them on. Tales from Space about a blob
and plants. First week zibombies. I thought the blob they're saying this week
Sony themselves, Yeah told me. I said, hey, Sony, what's
up is it? Check this out? GG series Dark Spirits is out on
dsywear. It's two hundred all right, ge, I'm afraid I only have
time for one email Email squares. Uh. The smail comes in from Ryan
that James Bassa in Baldwin Park, California. Hey, Bomb squad, So
he just got back from the Capcom Fight Club event here in downtown LA where
they were showing off Marvel versus Capcom three and Seth Killian has a message for
you, guys. I heard Giant Bomb. So I'm sorry. I heart
Giant Bomb, but they should get off that MK nine crap and start playing
a real fighting game. That stuff rots your brain. So if you have
this is from the guy who readily admits that he's not much of a Versus
series guy. You has much as a Versus series pro as he is a
strip, except when he's getting paid to say otherwise. Brad Any thoughts on
on these scathing words from mister mister Killian is not a real fighting game,
good answer, and on that should get him in here. You know we're
play a little Marble games out real soon? Why not? That's out next
week? Versus combat? Hear that? Hear that fight Club is popping off.
Yeah, fifteen people showed up. Or cheese Louise. You know we
went to that one that was here. Yeah we got soap or something.
Yeah yeah, and on heavy on that note, we're shutting down this podcast.
T and T is happening this week. Jeff and I are gonna be
at Dice for the rest of this week, so uh yeah, have fun
at T and T and have fun on the happy hour. We will,
and we'll have fun at dinner, and I'll have fun at dinner. Maybe
we'll talk to you later in the week. So have fun at Dice.
