<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, welcome to Game Best Mornings with Me Jeff <v Speaker 1>Grab your host from giant bomb dot com. Thank you <v Speaker 1>for tuning in. In this episode, we're gonna be talking <v Speaker 1>about more leaks coming out of the Game Awards and <v Speaker 1>Xbox hardware sales seem like they truly fill off a cliff. <v Speaker 1>It's gonna be a good one because we have Lex <v Speaker 1>Soladi on the show. LEXI, how are you doing well? <v Speaker 2>People are leaking all over the place and no one <v Speaker 2>will call a doctor. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's like they think it's normal. Now it's weird. <v Speaker 1>And I'm a known leaker, so I'm an expert on <v Speaker 1>the subject. I can speak on this. Yeah, hey, you <v Speaker 1>built a computer. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, that's so quick. Shout out to the giant bomb community. <v Speaker 2>Over the last little while, I was raising some funds <v Speaker 2>to build a computer, and then it all came together <v Speaker 2>very quickly, and twice has started to go up, and <v Speaker 2>so I got things ordered and the giant Bomb community <v Speaker 2>really showed up and helped support me. And yeah, then <v Speaker 2>this weekend, the final parts came in on Saturday, and <v Speaker 2>then from about Saturday at four o'clock until Sunday midnight, <v Speaker 2>I was building this computer. I wound up sleeping on <v Speaker 2>the couch because I had nowhere left in my room <v Speaker 2>to sleep on Saturday night. But by time Sunday came around, <v Speaker 2>it was done. And boy, this that's stressful. It's it. <v Speaker 2>People are like, oh, it's like building Lego or whatever, <v Speaker 2>and it's like, yeah, but like Lego books aren't worth <v Speaker 2>one hundred to two hundred to four hundred dollars each <v Speaker 2>depending on which one you're holding, and also don't make <v Speaker 2>very loud clicks when you put them into place that <v Speaker 2>sound like something's breaking. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean a lot of the troubles come from <v Speaker 1>the fact that, like the standards that like are involved <v Speaker 1>in building a PC were set forty thirty thirty to <v Speaker 1>forty years ago, probably before that. <v Speaker 2>So it's a part of me now that like looks <v Speaker 2>at it and is like, now they've put it together, <v Speaker 2>it's even more black magic, Like it's even more like <v Speaker 2>I just like combined these parts like they were like <v Speaker 2>technics and now suddenly I have like a powerhouse PC <v Speaker 2>that can run cyberpunk at one hundred and twenty frames <v Speaker 2>per second. That doesn't seem that seems illegal. Someone should <v Speaker 2>stop that. <v Speaker 1>It's bizarre And it's like when we couldn't. We could <v Speaker 1>improve things, but then there would be less compatibility and <v Speaker 1>less standardization, so we just don't like, Look, it's good enough. <v Speaker 1>People just need to learn to like accept the fact <v Speaker 1>that it's gonna make loud clicks and you're gonna feel <v Speaker 1>like you're breaking shit. But just go in there and <v Speaker 1>do it. And once, once you do it, once you <v Speaker 1>get used to it. Did you do you remember the <v Speaker 1>thermal paste? <v Speaker 2>I remember the thermal paste. <v Speaker 1>Let's see what kind of cooler did you have for <v Speaker 1>your CPU? Do you have a tower cooler, you have <v Speaker 1>a aio? What'd you get? <v Speaker 2>A pureless assassin? A cool game of cool? <v Speaker 1>Okay, all right, so I think you're literally cool. And <v Speaker 1>then what is your GPU? <v Speaker 2>It is a fifty seventy TIA I put yeah, I <v Speaker 2>put this together with the help of Turbo Shann helped <v Speaker 2>me out. And then a friend of mine locally, Lilith, <v Speaker 2>helped me source those parts or cop similar parts in <v Speaker 2>Ireland that I could order, because you know, shipping from <v Speaker 2>somewhere like America right now wouldn't be a great idea. <v Speaker 2>And then I bothered poor Damian Mason, who, if you <v Speaker 2>don't know, used to be a writer, a PC gamer <v Speaker 2>and is just a great tech head and also has <v Speaker 2>been a long support of a start menu. All weekend, <v Speaker 2>I was sending him dms pretty much constantly, and then <v Speaker 2>at the end of Sunday night he was like, hey, <v Speaker 2>by the way, I've been sick this whole time, and <v Speaker 2>so I've been doing this all from bed, and I'm like, <v Speaker 2>oh no, oh no, but yeah, it's built now. <v Speaker 1>Right now, right, Like, are you on it right now? <v Speaker 2>Yep? This is this is the computer I am now using. <v Speaker 2>Fantastic And of course the first thing that I loaded <v Speaker 2>up was the latest and greatest video game, Borderlands two. <v Speaker 2>Of course, yes, do you want to know why? Uh? <v Speaker 1>Yeah, sure. <v Speaker 2>So there was a news story last week that apparently, <v Speaker 2>after about like eight years, they finally fixed the Nvidia <v Speaker 2>physics compatibility right, so that now works. And I remember <v Speaker 2>when I was like literally thirteen, when Borderlands two came <v Speaker 2>out and people were playing ish seeing like streamers play <v Speaker 2>it and see them have like physics and be like <v Speaker 2>this shit is fucking mind blowing. And then I went <v Speaker 2>back and I played my Chrummy PS three version. I <v Speaker 2>was like this hunker junk, this bullshit. So now I'm <v Speaker 2>like experiencing physics for the first time as I remembered it, <v Speaker 2>and it's blowing my fucking mind. <v Speaker 1>Uh And do you wanna know something funny there? Yeah, <v Speaker 1>so your GPU is faking it because the fifty series <v Speaker 1>is the first series since Nvidia introduced it that does <v Speaker 1>not actually have a physics like compatibility. It has like, yeah, <v Speaker 1>so what you can do is this is where PC <v Speaker 1>game gets really fun. You have this big honkin fifty <v Speaker 1>seventy TI in your computer. What if you put in <v Speaker 1>another older GPU and there at the same time that <v Speaker 1>your fifty seventy t I can speak to and be like, <v Speaker 1>can you just run the physics stuff and old games <v Speaker 1>like some of the Batman Arkham games and stuff like <v Speaker 1>that will run a little bit better on your fifties. <v Speaker 2>I'm gonna tell you right now, shut the fuck up. <v Speaker 2>I'm never opening this box again. This box is going <v Speaker 2>to stay closed until it goes in the fucking trash <v Speaker 2>in twenty years time. <v Speaker 1>It's a good time over here. Eventually you learn to <v Speaker 1>love it like you're gonna end up in a Stockholm <v Speaker 1>syndrome situation and suggest. <v Speaker 2>Oh yeah, totally, Like I wound up with two MVME SSDs. <v Speaker 2>So now I have like four tower bytes of space, <v Speaker 2>and I'm like, ah, share, this is clean living. Going <v Speaker 2>from a laptop with like less than eight hundred gigs <v Speaker 2>a memory and having to constantly plug in hard drives <v Speaker 2>to that to be able to use it, I'm like, <v Speaker 2>oh shit, I could do soap. I could just start <v Speaker 2>downloading games. I'm never gonna fucking play them, but I <v Speaker 2>can just download them. <v Speaker 1>Get a little handheld vacuum and or air blower and <v Speaker 1>clean that thing out, you know, every six months or so. <v Speaker 1>That's all you gotta do. All right, Let's explain what <v Speaker 1>we do here. We're Giant Bomb Video Game dupas is <v Speaker 1>independent games media out here on our own doing things like, uh, <v Speaker 1>i'd hiring Lexi for a little bit to come edit stuff. <v Speaker 1>When we're gonna do a bunch of game of the <v Speaker 1>Year lists, We're gonna have a bunch of people write <v Speaker 1>that stuff. You can also catch <v Speaker 1>the show later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube. Hello YouTube. <v Speaker 1>All right, we have a lot to get into So <v Speaker 1>let's start the morning mess with leaker claims upcoming Star <v Speaker 1>Wars game announcement ends with the Old Republic. This is <v Speaker 1>from Alex Hopley at Game Reactor. Last week, the leaker <v Speaker 1>Kura Casis made headlines with their teaes that a big <v Speaker 1>Star Wars game announcement was coming and that it wasn't <v Speaker 1>related to the previously revealed games of Star Wars Zero <v Speaker 1>Company or Star Wars Eclipse. Now, Cura Casis has added <v Speaker 1>some more details to their claim. They've also teased that <v Speaker 1>the title of the game will end with the Old <v Speaker 1>Republic Now. This immediately made fans think of Star Wars <v Speaker 1>the Old Republic remake, but things might not be so simple. Yes, <v Speaker 1>Sabers remake of the classic RPG would be very interesting <v Speaker 1>if it returned from the Ashes to remind us it exists, <v Speaker 1>but there are other possibilities for other games to be <v Speaker 1>set in the Old Republic era too. Some fans believe <v Speaker 1>this could be the next major franchise tackled by Creative <v Speaker 1>Assembly in its Total Wars series. <v Speaker 2>For example, I was going to say, didn't they say <v Speaker 2>that they have one more game to announce as part <v Speaker 2>of the twenty fifth Anniversary. <v Speaker 1>I think so, And that game is real. I heard <v Speaker 1>about that years and years ago. Now they are making <v Speaker 1>a Star Wars game that is I think supposed to <v Speaker 1>be sort of a spin off of Total War at <v Speaker 1>Creative Assembly. I don't know. I don't think I ever <v Speaker 1>heard about it being an Older Republic game or. <v Speaker 2>Not, Like, I don't think, I don't. Yeah, yeah, if <v Speaker 2>you're gonna if you're going to do an ORCS or <v Speaker 2>something like that, if you're going to do a strategy game, <v Speaker 2>people want the units they recognize from the movies. <v Speaker 1>Yes, that's a that's a really good point, because you're <v Speaker 1>going to troopers and and star destroyers. <v Speaker 2>And I don't think people really give a shit about <v Speaker 2>like here's the ancient Sith and I mean guys who <v Speaker 2>are like kind of religious monks or whatever. <v Speaker 1>Now, you know, So they could do prequel area. I <v Speaker 1>think what they what they what might be happening here <v Speaker 1>is because Total War has a lot of of range combat, <v Speaker 1>but they also have a lot of melee. Maybe they're like, <v Speaker 1>we want armies of Jedi and we can only get <v Speaker 1>that in the Old Republic. That's not the only way <v Speaker 1>they could do it. The prequel era would give them <v Speaker 1>both of what we're talking about here, right, a lot <v Speaker 1>of familiar things that you saw in the movies, and <v Speaker 1>then a bunch of Jedi. But I don't know, maybe <v Speaker 1>it was a little bit difficult to work with Lucasfilm <v Speaker 1>on setting something that is. You know, all their games <v Speaker 1>are supposed to be cannon now in the prequel Clone <v Speaker 1>Wars era, So I don't know. I think honestly, this <v Speaker 1>probably is the Star Wars the Old Republic remake. It <v Speaker 1>feels like it's probably about time for them to tease <v Speaker 1>something there. You know, this is a Saber joint. I <v Speaker 1>think they are kind of handling this all on their <v Speaker 1>own now. Last I heard, and that was the reporting <v Speaker 1>I did a while ago, Sony wanted nothing to do <v Speaker 1>with it. I don't think that's changed. So it's like, Okay, <v Speaker 1>they could like reintroduce this thing now and sort of <v Speaker 1>establish hey, things have changed a little bit, but we're <v Speaker 1>still making this thing the way that we kind of <v Speaker 1>promised early on, and wasn't even us making that promise. <v Speaker 1>But I do think there's also a chance that this, uh, <v Speaker 1>this total war game could be there as well. <v Speaker 2>What do you think twist? It's nice of the old <v Speaker 2>Republic two. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, that would be I would like, like we actually finally. <v Speaker 2>When they gave it to someone else. Yeah, they like, listen, <v Speaker 2>you keep working away on that one. We're just gonna <v Speaker 2>see if someone else can beat for the punch. <v Speaker 1>Mm hmmm. I listen. If they actually like finished next <v Speaker 1>to the Old Republic too, the way they said they <v Speaker 1>were going to that one time and then they actually didn't, <v Speaker 1>I think that was aspiring. <v Speaker 2>Still, yeah, it still annoys me that that switch version <v Speaker 2>is like so bad and broken and unfinished. Huh, and <v Speaker 2>they sell it for like full price as if it's <v Speaker 2>a functioning product. It's the same Mafia three on PlayStation <v Speaker 2>five is literally unplayable and has been for like four years, <v Speaker 2>five years since the PS five came out. But is <v Speaker 2>it just gets stuck in infinite loading screens where you'll <v Speaker 2>get to a certain cut scene and as soon as <v Speaker 2>the cut scene ends, you'll go into loading screen, and <v Speaker 2>then the loading screen will end and I'll put you <v Speaker 2>back at the side of the same cut scene again <v Speaker 2>on any PS five And they sell it as part <v Speaker 2>of like the Mafia Definition of Edition bundle, which is <v Speaker 2>a PS five skew bundle on the PlayStation Store. Which <v Speaker 2>feels really grindy. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, it's that kind of stuff. Is really <v Speaker 1>bizarre that there's games like that that could be on <v Speaker 1>a major platform that just don't work and never get updated. <v Speaker 1>You would think that that's something that the platform holders <v Speaker 1>would do something about. Weird, All right, Yeah, listen, this <v Speaker 1>is this week, right It today's the eighth. This is <v Speaker 1>happening on the eleventh. Happy birthday, Mike Manatti. This is <v Speaker 1>happening on the eleventh, right, Yes, okay, so really kind <v Speaker 1>of we're getting to the down to the wire here, <v Speaker 1>last few chances to guess what the show is going <v Speaker 1>to be. <v Speaker 2>Like. <v Speaker 1>I think it's going to be a pretty big show. <v Speaker 1>I think it's gonna have quite a few pretty big games. <v Speaker 1>I think that we got a little bit on the <v Speaker 1>other side of a lot of these companies cutting a <v Speaker 1>lot of stuff that they were slightly uncertain about or <v Speaker 1>had just the you know, a tiny little bad feeling <v Speaker 1>about because they're cowards and they are afraid of risk. <v Speaker 1>But now it's like, okay, it's time to double down <v Speaker 1>on what games you think you can release. And I <v Speaker 1>think a lot of them probably are ready to talk <v Speaker 1>about those projects and we're better than the game boards. Really, <v Speaker 1>it really is the event that has the most eyeballs. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, I'm expecting big things from the show, how <v Speaker 1>about you. <v Speaker 2>I kind of think it needs to be a big <v Speaker 2>show like the Jeff just from the point of view <v Speaker 2>of like industry sentiment towards the show is probably the <v Speaker 2>lowest it's being since the Spike TV days, Like, I <v Speaker 2>don't know, if you see how people are talking about <v Speaker 2>Jeff on the Kilis on the show, I mean. <v Speaker 1>The thing is like they're talking about the way I've <v Speaker 1>always felt about it. So it's just like for me, like. <v Speaker 2>This which has been really really refreshing is seeing people <v Speaker 2>talk more publicly about how people have talked about this <v Speaker 2>privately for years of like, yeah, we get that this <v Speaker 2>is like functionally important and we probably do kind of <v Speaker 2>benefit from it as an industry, but it's deeply, deeply <v Speaker 2>flawed and it's deeply frustrating, and it's nice that people <v Speaker 2>are actually saying that out loud now, but it does <v Speaker 2>definitely feel like there are people who are in like <v Speaker 2>positions of prominence who are frustrated with the way that <v Speaker 2>that show presents itself and treats the industry, and people <v Speaker 2>who come along from the industry, or more so can't <v Speaker 2>come along from the industry, and like all the stuff <v Speaker 2>with seat fillers, like I'm not sure you did you <v Speaker 2>see Nextlander? Watch that Microsoft Xbox three sixty MTV. <v Speaker 1>It's a little bit of it that much. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, And a bit of that is like, oh, this <v Speaker 2>is very clearly like young attractive peopleople who are hired <v Speaker 2>in from an agency in the crowd, And there's zero <v Speaker 2>reason why the Game Awards should be doing that, Like <v Speaker 2>there should be enough demand for those tickets, they should <v Speaker 2>be priced appropriately. I don't know, it just seems like <v Speaker 2>a thing where like you could get a crowd of <v Speaker 2>people who actually cared if you wanted to, and you <v Speaker 2>could get a crowd of developers if you wanted to. <v Speaker 2>But it does feel like like he needs a big <v Speaker 2>year from that like sentiment point of view. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, I definitely think that there is a <v Speaker 1>you kind of don't make a show like the Game <v Speaker 1>Awards without carying deeply about the way you present yourself <v Speaker 1>and the way you are. You think you need to <v Speaker 1>present the industry so that other people take it seriously, <v Speaker 1>and that's always, you know, felt deeply inauthentic. <v Speaker 2>Adaptation of the Year. <v Speaker 1>Yes, right, let's find out more ways to talk about Hollywood. <v Speaker 1>It's always felt deeply inauthentic to me, and I've made <v Speaker 1>peace with that. Like I'm at a point where it's like, <v Speaker 1>we're gonna do the real Game Awards over on giant <v Speaker 1>bomb dot com, and we're gonna you can hang out <v Speaker 1>with us over the holidays and hear what real people <v Speaker 1>have to say when they talk about video games in <v Speaker 1>a way that it is real. And then I will <v Speaker 1>watch the commercials at the Game Awards and I will <v Speaker 1>applaud when a game I like wins, and so what <v Speaker 1>I'm not I'd have very low expectations from the Game Awards, <v Speaker 1>and really from Jeff himself, like he's just running a <v Speaker 1>business and I don't care to sort of try to <v Speaker 1>fix him. <v Speaker 2>I think I said this last time, but like, treat <v Speaker 2>it like Howmuge treats horsepashing, just like bet that everyone <v Speaker 2>has a good time, just be like. <v Speaker 1>You know exactly yes, and we know a few that <v Speaker 1>in the case of. <v Speaker 2>The Black Myth Wukong guys last year didn't happen. <v Speaker 1>But hey, ho, all right, well there's more from the <v Speaker 1>Game Awards this year that we have to talk about <v Speaker 1>the Game Awards mysterious Monoliths still not solved, although we <v Speaker 1>got some new interesting theories as more names get crossed <v Speaker 1>off the list of possibilities. The Game Awards mysterious monolith <v Speaker 1>is not for Lords of the Fallen two. So this <v Speaker 1>is from Hayley Williams at games Spot. The Game Awards <v Speaker 1>founder Jeff Keey has been teasing an upcoming upcoming game <v Speaker 1>announcement which happens to involve a massive, glowing, demonic statue <v Speaker 1>placed in the middle of the California desert. While it's <v Speaker 1>still unclear what exactly the statue is promoting, c i's <v Speaker 1>Yell Games, CI Games CEO Merrick Taminsky has confirmed it's <v Speaker 1>not for Lords of the fall In two. When the <v Speaker 1>statue was first revealed, the most popular guesses for what <v Speaker 1>it was marketing included Diablo, a new God of War title, <v Speaker 1>Elder Scroll six, or the Lords of the Fallen two. <v Speaker 1>Taminsky posted about the monolith on Twitter to confirm that <v Speaker 1>it was not the latter, saying he was flattered. People <v Speaker 1>thought the stunt might have something that might have come <v Speaker 1>from CI Games, but his studio is not at that <v Speaker 1>level just yet, so. <v Speaker 2>I realized this instantly because that statue looks a bit <v Speaker 2>like some female pots and that would be way to <v Speaker 2>woke for the studio. <v Speaker 1>So exactly, yes, they don't female genitalia representation. We can't <v Speaker 1>have that in video games. We need to make games <v Speaker 1>just for the boys. Okay, So there is a new theory, <v Speaker 1>and I guess before we get to that, do you <v Speaker 1>have any other guesses At this point, I'm. <v Speaker 2>Sticking with my my speci that is the most. <v Speaker 1>I won't say that's not it yet either, like a <v Speaker 1>lot of these other ones. People jumped out and said <v Speaker 1>that's not it. No one said that sorrows yet. <v Speaker 2>If it's not that, it is going to be some <v Speaker 2>vein of a I think, like maybe there's a chance <v Speaker 2>of a farm soft thing, but that doesn't seem like <v Speaker 2>their marketing style, especially their Western marketing style. I think <v Speaker 2>there's like a chance that it's something Microsoft related, because <v Speaker 2>they have the money for that, and this does seem <v Speaker 2>like their marketing style. But other than that, those are <v Speaker 2>kind of my bets. <v Speaker 1>All right, So we have a new theory, and I'm <v Speaker 1>feeling this one. I'm feeling pretty good about. But I'm <v Speaker 1>also feeling very similar the way I felt when we <v Speaker 1>put the hyenas noise underwater on games besides me and <v Speaker 1>Mike and thought we were solving echo the dolphin. So <v Speaker 1>hang in there. But also, if you want to be <v Speaker 1>surprised by the game Awards, I don't know, maybe skip <v Speaker 1>five minutes because I thought there's a strong chance this <v Speaker 1>is it, Jane, it might be worth bringing up that <v Speaker 1>second image that's here in this story. Okay, I'm gonna <v Speaker 1>say what the theory is. What if it's altered beast? <v Speaker 1>Aesthetic gamer dust Scullum on Twitter posted this, I cannot believe. <v Speaker 1>The more I sit on this and see online guesses <v Speaker 1>and their evidence, the more I'm buying this might be <v Speaker 1>an altered beast thing from Sega. I do quote whise <v Speaker 1>fum your gwave a bit more than I should. But <v Speaker 1>so he's basically saying, I might be seeing things. But <v Speaker 1>the statue has like the first thing we saw was <v Speaker 1>Jeff Keey on November twenty eighth posted a picture of <v Speaker 1>the bottom right part of the statue that has a <v Speaker 1>bunch of like creatures and skulls and stuff all like <v Speaker 1>cobble together in the stone and you could find many <v Speaker 1>of the characters and creatures from Altered Beast in the <v Speaker 1>in that like all clumped together in the statue, including <v Speaker 1>like the wolf, this, this bird, and they look exactly <v Speaker 1>like they do an altered beast. Uh. There's this like <v Speaker 1>weird crocodile thing, a weird dinosaur thing, a weird bear thing. Uh, <v Speaker 1>and then a mountain of flesh like that. They have <v Speaker 1>a mountain of flesh on the statue. They have a <v Speaker 1>mountain of flesh and altered Beast. What more do you need? <v Speaker 2>Well, I think you're gonna need to find a new guest. <v Speaker 2>I can't be the person who's on with you when <v Speaker 2>this comes back in six months time and people are like, <v Speaker 2>you do remember when they thought it was gonna be <v Speaker 2>fucking Altered Beasts. Now let's just play it alone. Because <v Speaker 2>she was like she, yes, I did it. I'm like, <v Speaker 2>that's just good podcasting. <v Speaker 1>I'm not losing my mind. Sega is doing. <v Speaker 2>Yes, they have said they are working on an Altered <v Speaker 2>b S game. Oh no, that was a golden axe game. <v Speaker 1>But right, the right gold next. But it's like all <v Speaker 1>in the same vein. Yeah, Look, do I want to believe? Yes? Uh? <v Speaker 1>This would for me, like with all the guesses if <v Speaker 1>this one was real. This would be the most fun <v Speaker 1>for me. Sorrows we know about that's announced why being <v Speaker 1>why be coy about sorrows? Like, I agree, it looks <v Speaker 1>about like those sorrows the tentacles and stuff like that. <v Speaker 1>But I would be disappointed, So it can't be that <v Speaker 1>like the point of getting excited, LEXI, If I'm just <v Speaker 1>gonna be disappointed, it can't. That's just so it just <v Speaker 1>can't happen that way. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's honestly not a bad guess. My one reservation is, <v Speaker 2>like I don't know if Sega of America gets money <v Speaker 2>for marketing or anything that isn't sonic. Yeah, like I <v Speaker 2>don't think they get like big splashy let's go do <v Speaker 2>a activation thing for anything else, because like it's not <v Speaker 2>like they're doing this for like a dragon and it's <v Speaker 2>you know, it's not like they're doing it for the <v Speaker 2>new Super Monkey ballgame like they should. They should just <v Speaker 2>put some monkeys in some sorbs and release them into <v Speaker 2>the desert and let that be their next viral marketing campaign. <v Speaker 2>But yeah, like that's that's my one hang up with <v Speaker 2>this is it seems unlikely that they would get the <v Speaker 2>money to do this, but sure, if it's Altered Beast, <v Speaker 2>that would be fucking funny. And if nothing else as <v Speaker 2>bad as the industry can get right now, it has <v Speaker 2>been really fucking funny this year in a cosmically tragic <v Speaker 2>kind of way. So sure, let's just keep going with that. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I would. I think I welcome it because it <v Speaker 1>would feel like a reprieve from all of this. It'd say, <v Speaker 1>oh my god, we could still get something like Altered Beasts. Sega, <v Speaker 1>thank you so much for making me have to think <v Speaker 1>about the world for five cents. <v Speaker 2>So like Schanobi, Art of Vengeance is one of my <v Speaker 2>games of the year. Like, yeah, and I'm very curious <v Speaker 2>about those other ones that they are working on, the <v Speaker 2>Crazy Taxi, the Golden Axe. There was another one as well, <v Speaker 2>but yeah. <v Speaker 1>Couple, yeah, I yeah, either way, I think we probably <v Speaker 1>they like first announced this initiative right at a game awards, <v Speaker 1>SEGA bringing back the old games. So you know, again, <v Speaker 1>this is hopium to a certain extent. Listen, I'll be <v Speaker 1>happier if it's actually Echo the Dolphin. If we turned <v Speaker 1>out they're like, you know what, we heard that one <v Speaker 1>episode of Gameless asides and we took Hyenas. We canceled that. <v Speaker 1>We turned it into Echo the Dolphin for Jeff Grub <v Speaker 1>and Mike Manati. That makes the most sense to me. <v Speaker 1>All Right, you know what, let's take a break. When <v Speaker 1>we come back, let's talk about someone getting ready to retire. <v Speaker 1>It sounds like we'll do that after these messages. If <v Speaker 1>you want to skip out on some ads, we have <v Speaker 1>an AD pre version of the video show and an <v Speaker 1>AD pre version of the audio show. You can get <v Speaker 1>those by going to giant bomb dot com slash Join. <v Speaker 1>In the meantime, we will be right back. All right, <v Speaker 1>we are back. It's Games Mornings. Looks lutty, Jeff Grubb. <v Speaker 1>Let's talk about this next story. Tech In director Katsuhiro <v Speaker 1>Harada is leaving Bandai Namco after thirty one years. This <v Speaker 1>is from Kenneth Shepherd at Kotaku. Katsuhiro Harada, veteran poster <v Speaker 1>and the director of the Techan series, has announced he <v Speaker 1>is leaving Namco after thirty one years. In a lengthy <v Speaker 1>post on his Twitter account, Harada said that at the <v Speaker 1>end of twenty twenty five it will see him leave <v Speaker 1>the company, and that with Techan reaching its thirtieth anniversary <v Speaker 1>last year, right now felt like the most fitting moment <v Speaker 1>to bring this chapter of his life to a close. <v Speaker 1>Harada reflected on his roots, which involved promoting tech in <v Speaker 1>to players in Japanese arcades. He says that those days <v Speaker 1>immersed in local fighting scenes, both in Japan and in <v Speaker 1>community centers overseas, became the core of who he was <v Speaker 1>as a developer and a game creator. While reflecting on <v Speaker 1>the past, Srata also said that recent personal tragedies and <v Speaker 1>professional movement helped him come to this decision. In recent years, <v Speaker 1>I experienced the loss of several close friends in my <v Speaker 1>personal life and in my professional life. I witnessed the <v Speaker 1>retur hirement or passing of many senior colleagues whom I <v Speaker 1>deeply respected. Arada wrote, those accumulated events made me reflect <v Speaker 1>on the time I have left as a creator. During <v Speaker 1>that period, I sought advice from Ken Kutaragi, whom I <v Speaker 1>respect as though he were another father, and received invaluable <v Speaker 1>encouragement and guidance. His words quietly supported me and making <v Speaker 1>this decision. Over the past four to five years, I've <v Speaker 1>gradually handed over all of my responsibilities, as well as <v Speaker 1>the stories and world building I oversaw to the team <v Speaker 1>bring bringing me to the present day. Yes, and Arada <v Speaker 1>basically signed off by saying he's going to be done <v Speaker 1>at the end of this year. Obviously he was. He <v Speaker 1>just spoke. He did a eulogy for tom Nobu Itagaki <v Speaker 1>for his funeral, who just passed away recently. The sounds <v Speaker 1>like they became even closer as Edagaki was reaching the end. <v Speaker 1>Seems like that affected him. Of course, there's probably many <v Speaker 1>other aspects of this that we're not aware of. He's <v Speaker 1>talking about personal tragedies, seeing other people leave his life. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>you do something for thirty one years. I can imagine <v Speaker 1>looking up and looking around beyond like, well, you know, <v Speaker 1>let's get while the getting is good, and that feels <v Speaker 1>like we're doing here. <v Speaker 2>It's also, you know, worth noting that Namco as a <v Speaker 2>company is not the same Namco that he started in. <v Speaker 2>The Namco that he started in was just Namco. This <v Speaker 2>is Bandai Namco, which is a very different thing. It <v Speaker 2>is a company where the majority of their profits aren't <v Speaker 2>with video games. It's with anime, and in the video <v Speaker 2>game sector, it is anime video games that are like <v Speaker 2>the where most of their best performing games come from <v Speaker 2>other than elden Ring and Dark Souls and stuff. So <v Speaker 2>like there's definitely been a culture shift there over the <v Speaker 2>years that I'm sure he's felt, and he's kind of <v Speaker 2>like he's worked his way up to being an executive <v Speaker 2>producer on a bunch of different games and general producer <v Speaker 2>on a bunch of different games, and like he doesn't <v Speaker 2>just work on the tech in games, as people kind <v Speaker 2>of assume, But I can totally imagine kind of being <v Speaker 2>at that company long enough and just kind of being like, listen, <v Speaker 2>I could do another one of these. I could do <v Speaker 2>another three of these, but like I kind of want <v Speaker 2>to do something else with my life. And if he's <v Speaker 2>not getting the leeway to do that inside the company, <v Speaker 2>to go, you know, work on a different game or <v Speaker 2>try different pursuits inside the company, he has enough clout <v Speaker 2>in that industry that he most certainly can get funding <v Speaker 2>for a next product from a different publisher, a different <v Speaker 2>a different first party or something like that. And like <v Speaker 2>he talks here about working on the parking games. You know, <v Speaker 2>he has relationships with Nintendo. You know he did. He's <v Speaker 2>been around the industry in a way that like and <v Speaker 2>Ken Kruceragi also came up there like he clearly has <v Speaker 2>friends in multiple different company He's not just inside a NAMCO, <v Speaker 2>so he definitely doesn't feel boxed into having to stay <v Speaker 2>at NAMCO. So yeah, you can't blame him. You can't <v Speaker 2>be like, I'm glad to see so many people coming <v Speaker 2>out of the would work to just be like talking <v Speaker 2>about how much he means to them and to the community. <v Speaker 2>Jason Fanelli had like some nice words to say about him, <v Speaker 2>recognizing him back when he was first starting out as <v Speaker 2>a writer, and he just he always seemed like a <v Speaker 2>really legitimately quite nice guy. I'll always remember that the <v Speaker 2>Summer game Fest that I went to, he was having <v Speaker 2>his birthday there and they had an ice sculpture for <v Speaker 2>teching Age at Summer games Fest and that was like <v Speaker 2>his birthday party or whatever. So yeah, he seemed like <v Speaker 2>a guy who liked to have fun. <v Speaker 1>Yep. Yeah, definitely, And I think I think you're right, <v Speaker 1>Like at a certain point, you know, he made Tech <v Speaker 1>in three. He made some of the best games of <v Speaker 1>all time, and I bet these days trying to navigate <v Speaker 1>like delivering a game that he's happy with that also <v Speaker 1>delivers on you know, what the what the fans say, <v Speaker 1>they're wanting as much as he has an antagonistic relationship <v Speaker 1>with fans. A lot of times it's because you know <v Speaker 1>he's listening. You can tell he's like that stuff doesn't <v Speaker 1>get to him. And then also navigating what the company wants, <v Speaker 1>which is going to that's got to be like very <v Speaker 1>diametrically opposed at this point of the kind of games <v Speaker 1>he probably wants to make versus what the fans are <v Speaker 1>asking asking for versus what the corporation needs. And he's <v Speaker 1>done that so many times it's probably only getting worse <v Speaker 1>trying to navigate that sort of thing these days. So yeah, uh, <v Speaker 1>sort of take your. <v Speaker 2>Victory, lab I'm sure you know this pretty well, but <v Speaker 2>like a clean slash is a very attractive proposition, like <v Speaker 2>all the challenges that it comes with, it is still <v Speaker 2>like the possibility space of being able to start again <v Speaker 2>and kind of not be tied to as many expectations <v Speaker 2>and to as much baggage as you tied into Cone <v Speaker 2>is a real nice prospect, you know, and sodom for <v Speaker 2>taking it. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I hope we do kind of see him around still, <v Speaker 1>or if he does like decide to fully retire, we'll see, <v Speaker 1>But for now it seems like, yeah, he might end <v Speaker 1>up doing something new, and if he does, yeah, I <v Speaker 1>look forward to seeing whatever that is. I hope maybe <v Speaker 1>I would. <v Speaker 2>Hope Camire lets him drive his Ferrari exactly. <v Speaker 1>I would like to see more of these older elder <v Speaker 1>statesmen of the Japanese game and scene do what like <v Speaker 1>used Caushiro's doing where he's like, I have like a <v Speaker 1>small studio where I'm like making a game with like <v Speaker 1>one other person. And he put out that Earthly on <v Speaker 1>shooter earlier this year. It's like one of the better <v Speaker 1>shooters in the last couple of years, like Space Ship Shooter. <v Speaker 1>When I say it. <v Speaker 2>Gets me thinking, I wonder if we see Negoshis game <v Speaker 2>at some games fast. It's been five years. He left <v Speaker 2>in twenty nineteen and founded that studio like early twenty twenty. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, some of those studios fell through, some of those <v Speaker 1>ones of like guys going to China to work. <v Speaker 2>But yes, he was he was signed with ness Onnhez <v Speaker 2>were basically like, yeah, we're not gonna market this anymore, <v Speaker 2>but they are. They did commit to funding the project <v Speaker 2>to completion, which seems like a strange move to be <v Speaker 2>like we're going to fund this project all the way through, <v Speaker 2>but we're not going to fund the marketing. <v Speaker 1>All this YEP corporation. It's being weird. Oh never, Uh, <v Speaker 1>all right, Kojima says his upcoming game OD may not <v Speaker 1>quote workout, Sirmedi Makou at GameSpot, writer director Hideo Kojima <v Speaker 1>has multiple new games in the works, one of which <v Speaker 1>is the horror title OD. Not much as known about <v Speaker 1>the game, and the recent knock trailer raised more questions <v Speaker 1>than it answered. Now Kojima has further discussed OD, saying <v Speaker 1>it's aim it's it aims to offer something new. Of course, <v Speaker 1>that's what most developers would say. Perhaps more intriguingly, Kojima <v Speaker 1>discussed with a non web Yeah, non web via translation. <v Speaker 2>Uh. <v Speaker 1>How he does not know for sure if his idea <v Speaker 1>for OD will even work. I can't say exactly what <v Speaker 1>it is yet, nor do I know if it will <v Speaker 1>if it will work out. We've created stealth games and <v Speaker 1>delivery games which were unlike anything before, but system wise <v Speaker 1>they were similar to other games, he explained, referencing Middle <v Speaker 1>Gear Solid and Death Stranding. This time, we're trying to <v Speaker 1>change the service model from the ground up, so it <v Speaker 1>should be quite challenging. We've packed the trailer full of hints, <v Speaker 1>so if you keep thinking about it, you might figure <v Speaker 1>it out. Since I don't he's not I don't think <v Speaker 1>he's saying it's like it might not work out, as in, <v Speaker 1>like this whole deal might not work out with Microsoft, <v Speaker 1>we might not make this game, instead of he's saying <v Speaker 1>the finished project might not work out in the way <v Speaker 1>that he's envisioning it. Do we have any idea any <v Speaker 1>sensible kind of game this is? Is this? <v Speaker 2>Like? Ye, the speculation is because he was out there <v Speaker 2>talking about how he was working with different like he <v Speaker 2>was working with Jordan Peel and right gimbaledelto. The speculation <v Speaker 2>now is that like it's some sort of episodic thing <v Speaker 2>where each one is almost like a Twilight Zones. This <v Speaker 2>is yeah, this is This is Jordan Peele's one, This <v Speaker 2>is Giambo del Toro's one, which would be super interesting <v Speaker 2>if they did it. It sounds like a wild way <v Speaker 2>to make a video game, Like just the sheer amount <v Speaker 2>of asset generation that you would have to do for <v Speaker 2>different narratives from different creators all rolled up into one package. <v Speaker 2>It doesn't seem like it would work financially. But that's <v Speaker 2>like that's the going kind of speculation. From what I <v Speaker 2>can gather, this is like also in a weird spot <v Speaker 2>because like you would think it's his next thing because <v Speaker 2>that was the first one announce it was announced before, isn't. <v Speaker 2>But also they've clearly hit roadblocks most recently with like <v Speaker 2>the Udo Kier stuff, because they said they didn't get <v Speaker 2>anything filmed with him, and they clearly filmed with him. Yeah, <v Speaker 2>So I wonder if there is a part of like <v Speaker 2>part of this interview also that he was out there <v Speaker 2>being like, yeah, I could make a stealth game and <v Speaker 2>my sleep which was pretty hotty. So maybe at some <v Speaker 2>point physiint comes up the order release date wise of <v Speaker 2>like actually this is something where like they kind of <v Speaker 2>have the bones of a stealth game with Death Stranding. <v Speaker 2>They have a lot of those systems in place, they <v Speaker 2>just don't they haven't fleshed them out as much as <v Speaker 2>they are in like a Metal View game. So I <v Speaker 2>can see the transition to doing something like that be <v Speaker 2>much more smooth than like this was going to be <v Speaker 2>an Unreal Engine five game. This was going to be <v Speaker 2>a game on a different engine in first person, which <v Speaker 2>is again a different perspective to what Kojima has done <v Speaker 2>for most of his career with the games he's directed, <v Speaker 2>and so yeah, it seemed like a big undertaking. <v Speaker 1>Yeah. I he has been talking more and more about <v Speaker 1>Physiant recently as well, now that he's kind of getting <v Speaker 1>trending to behind him. I'm sure that they will do <v Speaker 1>director's cut stuff and all that stuff, but uh, yeah, <v Speaker 1>it does seem like that is moving up a little bit. Uh. <v Speaker 1>I like the idea of anthology sort of PET sort <v Speaker 1>of thing, where it's like every episode is its own <v Speaker 1>kind of take on this short horror game idea, And <v Speaker 1>even if many of them are very similar to PET, <v Speaker 1>I think that there's a lot of meat on that <v Speaker 1>bone and they could do a lot with that. That <v Speaker 1>could be pretty fun, especially but it's like, you know, <v Speaker 1>maybe some of the mechanics are reused or repurposed or <v Speaker 1>to like there's a slight twist on them, but now <v Speaker 1>we're going to bring the flavor of this this different <v Speaker 1>horror creator every single time. That that could work, I <v Speaker 1>would welcome it. There is like some cloud streaming aspect <v Speaker 1>of this as well. I remember, Yeah, so God that <v Speaker 1>they cool? <v Speaker 2>Is it that they bought in they bought in the <v Speaker 2>persons Valve. <v Speaker 1>They brought in she was from Valve, she was from Stadia. <v Speaker 1>I think she is the person that was I want <v Speaker 1>to say, your name is him? She worked on Kim Swift. <v Speaker 1>That sounds right. Yes, this is my reporting from years ago, <v Speaker 1>and I'm forgetting it. That's how that's just my. <v Speaker 2>Life that you'd forget something. <v Speaker 1>Wrong, I know, right, so unlike me. Yeah, Like the <v Speaker 1>whole idea was like, he wants to make this project <v Speaker 1>using the cloud, and they brought in an expert from <v Speaker 1>who had worked at Google Stadia to basically work directly <v Speaker 1>with him and help him figure it out. I don't know. <v Speaker 1>I mean, I guess if they are making something that <v Speaker 1>is that is like anthologized and it's going to have <v Speaker 1>a big names attached, big names attached to it, maybe <v Speaker 1>the idea is, let's make it as easy to access <v Speaker 1>as possible and so people can just stream this anywhere. <v Speaker 1>Do you think that makes it? Like you, you might <v Speaker 1>not even be controlling this with a controller. He might. <v Speaker 1>It might be all like sort of prompts on a <v Speaker 1>screen sort of thing so that people could play on <v Speaker 1>their phones. <v Speaker 2>Well, I've heard everything's an Xbox Club. <v Speaker 1>So you know, everything's an Xbox. <v Speaker 2>Yes it was Kim Swift. <v Speaker 1>Okay, there we go. Uh okay, let's see here. Uh. <v Speaker 1>Next story. Use Azuki studio considering legal action over fake <v Speaker 1>shin MoU for trailer. <v Speaker 2>I love this. <v Speaker 1>This whole thing is like yeah, I mean it was <v Speaker 1>definitely fake. Everybody come on Ye's net. <v Speaker 2>Uh. <v Speaker 1>The studio, founded by a claimed Sega designer, used Azuki, <v Speaker 1>has issued a statement to deny that an alleged shin <v Speaker 1>MoU for trailer circulating on social media has any connection <v Speaker 1>to the developer. Last week, the offscreen video which Jan's <v Speaker 1>playing for you guys, now, I don't you just like <v Speaker 1>watch it and you know it's fake now, but like. <v Speaker 2>It's made in Fortnite. <v Speaker 1>It looks it looks like it's clearly AI. And if <v Speaker 1>you want, like the key these days to tell something, <v Speaker 1>it is a I really really really fast cuts, like <v Speaker 1>constant fast cuts, like no shot longer than a second <v Speaker 1>or two. Uh, to the point where it's like this <v Speaker 1>is kind of hard to watch. It's like that Coca <v Speaker 1>Cola AI commercial where it's like they are using like <v Speaker 1>whatever it is VO three. I actually don't know what <v Speaker 1>any these things are actually called to produce these shots, <v Speaker 1>and that thing produces things that are like one to <v Speaker 1>two seconds long usually, and so they get a lot <v Speaker 1>of that stuff. It just it's it's rough. So yeah, anyway, <v Speaker 1>uh U Suzuki's companies saying, yeah, this thing is definitely fake. <v Speaker 1>It appears that the footage could be AI generated. In <v Speaker 1>a post on social media on Monday, the studio acknowledged <v Speaker 1>the video, which it said uses our company logo without permission, <v Speaker 1>falsely giving the impression that it is it is an <v Speaker 1>official shin MoU for. Related video produced by us Y's <v Speaker 1>Net said the video has appened. <v Speaker 2>We want to make it very clear we have no <v Speaker 2>intention of finishing the story, or if. <v Speaker 1>We do, we're gonna make it even shittier. So just <v Speaker 1>hang on there. Hy's Net said the video has absolutely <v Speaker 1>no connection to Ye's Net and that it has uh <v Speaker 1>not released any trailer's footage or other promotion with related <v Speaker 1>to shinbufor. The statement goes on to state that it <v Speaker 1>considered the matter serious and that it's currently working with <v Speaker 1>relevant parties and preparing appropriate measures, including potential legal action. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>fuck it, go ahead. I mean all you gotta do <v Speaker 1>if you're making one of these things, if you like <v Speaker 1>a fake trailer is I made a fake trailer. People <v Speaker 1>host that shit to YouTube all the time, and then <v Speaker 1>just somewhere in the description says, you know, like this <v Speaker 1>fan casting or whatever, and they get away and then <v Speaker 1>they get millions of views from people trying to see <v Speaker 1>the trailer for fucking Indiana Jones seventeen or something like that. <v Speaker 2>I remember when I was a kid, I got super <v Speaker 2>freaked out by a fake Spider Man for trailer where <v Speaker 2>Aunt May turned out to be evil that I saw <v Speaker 2>on YouTube, and I was like, oh no, this is <v Speaker 2>so upsettings. <v Speaker 1>We all have our stories like that. Especially the Internet <v Speaker 1>made that stuff really fun and harrowing. It wasn't just <v Speaker 1>someone telling you something on the playground about hey, this <v Speaker 1>this thing is coming and this this happens in there. <v Speaker 1>I was able to I had retro our nuclear grade <v Speaker 1>confusing things that would mess me up and make me think, oh, <v Speaker 1>is this is this real? All right? So Usazuki is <v Speaker 1>going to issue the AI, people go for it. I <v Speaker 1>want to see it. They're not going to make a <v Speaker 1>Shen move for right if they do. <v Speaker 2>It's like they have had so many opportunities to finish <v Speaker 2>that story, and like first it was first you would <v Speaker 2>think they would finish it with shen MoU three. You <v Speaker 2>think someone there would realize like, hey, this is the <v Speaker 2>last and then they're like, actually, no, this is only <v Speaker 2>the halfway point. And then they announced that they're doing <v Speaker 2>an anime and they're like, actually, the anime starts from <v Speaker 2>the very beginning. We're not going to finish the story <v Speaker 2>with the anime. And then they're like, we're making a <v Speaker 2>new Shen Move game. It's a remake of shen MoU three. <v Speaker 2>We're gonna make it less shitty this time, which I <v Speaker 2>gotta say. When I first got the email from that, <v Speaker 2>because it was from like a really small pure firm, <v Speaker 2>I was like, this can't be real. This can't be real. <v Speaker 2>And then it was like, yeah, we're taking appointments for <v Speaker 2>you to see U Suzukia Games Calm, and I was <v Speaker 2>like this can't be real. And I was already fully <v Speaker 2>booked and I couldn't go to the see U Suzuki <v Speaker 2>and tell him I think his game's about like, you know, <v Speaker 2>maybe next year. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's the dream. You can always just do it <v Speaker 1>next year. Yeah, I guess, you know, as we talk <v Speaker 1>about it, I wouldn't be surprised if they give it <v Speaker 1>one more try, I just I don't know what it looks. <v Speaker 2>I think if there is another shed move, I don't <v Speaker 2>think it finishes the story. No, he's made it very <v Speaker 2>clear that that is like a seventeen part story and <v Speaker 2>the only like like eight or nine through it at <v Speaker 2>this point, and like, yeah. <v Speaker 1>I mean, if you haven't given up on that by now, <v Speaker 1>it would be actually kind of stupid to give up <v Speaker 1>on it at this point, to be like, hey, now <v Speaker 1>you know what I was wrong. I'm not going to <v Speaker 1>stick to my vision whatever, I'm going back on it. <v Speaker 1>Let's just end this thing. It's at this point it's like, <v Speaker 1>this is this man's I want him to see it <v Speaker 1>through and by that I mean live the rest of <v Speaker 1>his life trying to make these Shin Move games. That that. <v Speaker 2>When Kojima gets old enough, I hope he makes his <v Speaker 2>version of Megalopolis clearly like he's he's lost the touch <v Speaker 2>and he's still trying to make things work, but he <v Speaker 2>does it with like a billion dollar video game. <v Speaker 1>I want his own money. Yeah, U, that's the reason <v Speaker 1>that the money is the reason. I'm like, Shin Moo's <v Speaker 1>a little uncertain, right, because even with Shinmu three, Like, <v Speaker 1>do you remember how Shinmu three went down? <v Speaker 2>Like, oh yeah, it was like announced that a PlayStation <v Speaker 2>event as if it was the second coming for a kickstarter, <v Speaker 2>a kickstarter, right, and then it was very clear that <v Speaker 2>the kickstarter was just there to show that there was <v Speaker 2>interest that people would buy the game PlayStation. <v Speaker 1>Was like, we did it, everybody, We fucking you know <v Speaker 1>five Fantasy seven, that other, that game with the Last <v Speaker 1>Guardian with the Giant Dog Bird that's back. But also <v Speaker 1>we did it, Shit Mood three, can we They're gonna <v Speaker 1>need some money though here's a Kickstarterly that was crazy. <v Speaker 2>So we're not giving them the other guys. We were like, <v Speaker 2>we'll give you the money for this. He came in, <v Speaker 2>We were like, we'll give you some time on stage. <v Speaker 1>So even with shim Mood three couldn't get like direct <v Speaker 1>funding right away. I'm sure they got some funding, but <v Speaker 1>it's like even that. <v Speaker 2>I do really like the idea of you, Suzuki, like <v Speaker 2>coming into a Sony boardroom and all the Sony execs <v Speaker 2>going like, oh shit, wait is coming, I gotta use <v Speaker 2>the toilet. <v Speaker 1>I do hope we see a sham moovefor someday and <v Speaker 1>I also hope he never finishes the story, because that'd <v Speaker 1>be That's the best, all right. PS five dominated Black <v Speaker 1>Friday twenty twenty five, earning sixty two percent market share. <v Speaker 1>This is from Alex Hopley at Game Reactor. This is uh, <v Speaker 1>let's see the game business provided this data provided by Nielsen. <v Speaker 1>The PS five had sixty two percent of the console <v Speaker 1>market share during the weeks of Black Friday. Unit sales <v Speaker 1>were up by sixteen percent for PS five, mostly thanks <v Speaker 1>to the big price drops from Sony for the shopping event. <v Speaker 1>That is the thing here. PlayStation is really the only <v Speaker 1>console that had a major discount during Black Friday. There <v Speaker 1>were some discounts here and there for the switch to <v Speaker 1>from five hundred to four to fifty with the included <v Speaker 1>Mario for the Mario kar bundle, but that was retailer <v Speaker 1>by retailer, and it just seemed less available than the <v Speaker 1>PlayStation price cut. So PlayStation, it seems like a lot <v Speaker 1>of people were waiting on the sideline. I'm gonna act <v Speaker 1>now get this before GTA six comes out. <v Speaker 2>Let's see, there was a box will will take like <v Speaker 2>fifteen bucks off the price. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, So honestly, it's all We'll pay for your sales <v Speaker 1>tax and not even all of it. Yeah, it's bizarre. <v Speaker 1>Let's see here that this is from the UK. I <v Speaker 1>meant to include Let's see here. Matt Piscatella, I believe, <v Speaker 1>has posted something about the sales in the United States <v Speaker 1>where it goes like this, the PlayStation was number one, <v Speaker 1>switch to was number two, number three, not Xbox the <v Speaker 1>next playground and then he actually didn't include anything about <v Speaker 1>Xbox at all, which I think we could presume it <v Speaker 1>was number four? Did do you know? Do you know <v Speaker 1>what the next playground is? <v Speaker 2>I so I've only learned about it through reading the <v Speaker 2>applies to Matt's post. It seems like it is some <v Speaker 2>kind of Android Base subscription device. It sounds like the <v Speaker 2>Uya two that quietly came out and was sold on <v Speaker 2>like TikTok wheels. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, well that's how it's being sold now. So I <v Speaker 1>have a next playground that Steph, my wife got us <v Speaker 1>for free. Somehow. I don't ask questions, so they should <v Speaker 1>just get stealed sometimes and they I think that was <v Speaker 1>part of like a promotion of them trying to be like, <v Speaker 1>let's see if we can get this out here, and <v Speaker 1>sort of juice sales and stuff like that. <v Speaker 2>And creates to influences. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, get to the influencers, get some user reviews or <v Speaker 1>something like that, and we used it. And the very <v Speaker 1>the very ironic thing here is it is a Connect. <v Speaker 1>It's it's a Connect. It is an eye toy, it <v Speaker 1>is a camera in a box. And you do pay <v Speaker 1>a subscription, you get access to a bunch of games <v Speaker 1>and they're all just like eye Toy games and Connect games. <v Speaker 1>So the idea that the Xbox got outsold by what <v Speaker 1>is basically a standalone Connect years later is very funny <v Speaker 1>and kind of sad in a lot of way. <v Speaker 2>It kind of like, at this point, Xbox feels like <v Speaker 2>it's like two steps away from the end of Tar. <v Speaker 2>Like Xbox feels like the Lydia Tar of gaming, which <v Speaker 2>is weird because Lydia Tar is the Lydia Tar of <v Speaker 2>gaming in a lot of ways. But you know, that's <v Speaker 2>that's kind of the vibe that they give off at <v Speaker 2>the moment. <v Speaker 1>Yes, we will be seeing them perform a Monster Hunter <v Speaker 1>like fanfare here pretty soon. Yeah, Okay, here's Matt's post. <v Speaker 1>In the US, PlayStation five accounted for forty seven percent <v Speaker 1>of total Black Friday week hardware unit sales leading the market. <v Speaker 1>Intind to switch to ranked second at twenty four percent, <v Speaker 1>and the next playground was third at fourteen percent, So <v Speaker 1>that's twenty eight. That's so that's seventy eight, that's seventy I. <v Speaker 2>Doesn't leave a whole lot of other percentages, right. <v Speaker 1>And it's like there's other hardware things that like would <v Speaker 1>be counted in here. Yeah, not a lot of room <v Speaker 1>left for the old. Yeah. <v Speaker 2>He did kind of go on to say, like, you know, <v Speaker 2>Black Friday deals are contingent Black Friday sales are contingent <v Speaker 2>on deals, Like people don't buy things at retail price <v Speaker 2>when they go into a store on Black Friday, or <v Speaker 2>they order online on Black Friday, which like, yeah, Microsoft <v Speaker 2>didn't go that far below retail price, so of course <v Speaker 2>not many more people were buying it than usual. Yeah, <v Speaker 2>it's it's weird that, I mean, it's a weird vibe. <v Speaker 1>It speaks to them not again again continuing not to <v Speaker 1>care about selling the Xbox, which is as story as <v Speaker 1>old as time. It's at this point, but it's like, <v Speaker 1>I don't know, every stark reminder of that really hits home. <v Speaker 1>And this is another one of those. It's like you know, <v Speaker 1>you drop one hundred dollars in that thing, you probably <v Speaker 1>do move quite a few dur a fhew during Black Friday. <v Speaker 1>You didn't do it at all because like, no, we <v Speaker 1>don't care. We've been raising the price. Why would we <v Speaker 1>drop it back down? This thing's got to sell at <v Speaker 1>a certain price for us. <v Speaker 2>It's uh, what do you think is the last like <v Speaker 2>news story or initiative from Xbox Microsoft where like you've <v Speaker 2>had any positive feelings towards any of it, Like think <v Speaker 2>think back to the days of like them doing backwards <v Speaker 2>compatibility at the start at the start, or like being <v Speaker 2>like oh yeah, game pass is like we we know <v Speaker 2>that you're getting a deal on this game pass xpoit <v Speaker 2>we're actually going to leave a be Like when was <v Speaker 2>the last time we had a anything remotely close to <v Speaker 2>like goodwill going in that direction? <v Speaker 1>Don't It's it's been like it's been spotty at best, <v Speaker 1>and it's you kind of have to like, uh pick <v Speaker 1>and choose the wins there, Like I'm still like, uh, <v Speaker 1>you know, I see Double Fine release a game like <v Speaker 1>the like what we'll watch her, Mike, Okay, keep it cool, <v Speaker 1>keep her thank you? <v Speaker 2>Yes, Uh look at that and I go Double Find <v Speaker 2>did a good job. I don't look at that, and <v Speaker 2>go Xbox did a good job marketing that. <v Speaker 1>No, yes, exactly. So well, I'm glad that they still <v Speaker 1>have are able to release a game under Xbox and <v Speaker 1>an Xbox did not get in the way. Uh how <v Speaker 1>much they contributed to anything, Probably not much, but but yeah, <v Speaker 1>it's like, I'm like, I'm happy to see some of <v Speaker 1>those studios are still going. Uh, but I don't know. <v Speaker 1>Ever since, like all those layoffs and then the game <v Speaker 1>cancelations the most recent round, it's like, oh, this is <v Speaker 1>not just them trying to make things work. Things have <v Speaker 1>fundamentally changed. They are no longer interested in this business <v Speaker 1>and so everything else is tainted and I just I <v Speaker 1>just don't have positive feelings about it anymore. <v Speaker 2>So it's been I say it every time that Xbox <v Speaker 2>and Double Fine comes up, if you haven't watched it <v Speaker 2>that Psychotysy documentary, the episode where Matt Boody visits Double <v Speaker 2>Fine and talks to the team and the team comes <v Speaker 2>to them, comes to Matt with their concerns about Amnesia <v Speaker 2>Fortnite and potentially not owning the things that they create <v Speaker 2>during Amnesia Fortnite and Matt basically goes like, yeah, well <v Speaker 2>you know we'd own them, so just bear that in mind. <v Speaker 2>And the room is just like dead silent, and the <v Speaker 2>camera zooms in on Greg Rice's face and it's just <v Speaker 2>like the guy who works the deal together, Yeah, the <v Speaker 2>guy who put the deal together. It just zooms in <v Speaker 2>on his face and it's just like it sinks in <v Speaker 2>and it's like, oh, oh, this this is who we <v Speaker 2>sold to. <v Speaker 1>Oh no, yep, yep. <v Speaker 2>It's while that documentary got out there. It's so wid <v Speaker 2>That documentary is incredible. If you haven't watched it, it's <v Speaker 2>I seriously can't recommend it off. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's the like one of the best looks into <v Speaker 1>how a game gets made and everything that people have <v Speaker 1>to go through. It's quite impressive, and it's super long. <v Speaker 1>It's super detailed. Okay, let's see here, rat start wrapping <v Speaker 1>things up. Tom Morello from Rage against the Machine releases <v Speaker 1>a song for Final Fantasy fourteen. This is from Jonas Macki. <v Speaker 1>Final Fantasy fourteen continues to be incredibly popular, not least <v Speaker 1>thanks to the fact that Square Enix is steadily expanding <v Speaker 1>its game with relevant content that keeps it feeling fresh <v Speaker 1>and they're clearly going to continue doing so, surprising us. <v Speaker 1>Now with a musical collaboration through Blue Sky, it has <v Speaker 1>been announced that legendary Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom <v Speaker 1>Morello has collaborated with Final Fantasy fourteen composer ma say <v Speaker 1>Yoshi's Soakin to release a song. Sokin is said to <v Speaker 1>be a big fan of Rage Against the Machine. Hell yeah, <v Speaker 1>which is why Morello wanted to do this, and we <v Speaker 1>can look forward to hearing the results as early as <v Speaker 1>next week December seventeenth. The Morello himself says in a <v Speaker 1>sh video clip that he wanted to make an absolute <v Speaker 1>rocking banger of a track that would mirror the energy <v Speaker 1>and the potency of this game, So don't expect classic <v Speaker 1>Japanese role playing music. Cool. Have they done something like <v Speaker 1>this before. <v Speaker 2>They've had like guests and people come in. They did <v Speaker 2>obviously all that near stuff. I'm not sure if they've <v Speaker 2>done as much like Western musicians coming in. And I <v Speaker 2>don't think this is like a Nintendo getting Toby Fox <v Speaker 2>to do Pokemon music kind of thing. But I am <v Speaker 2>not surprised. <v Speaker 1>I was gonna say that. I think that, like it's <v Speaker 1>mostly they've just been afraid to do it because everyone <v Speaker 1>like it's like, oh, we're gonna be compared to the <v Speaker 1>most perfect example of this, and that's Paul McCartney doing <v Speaker 1>the Destiny song. Yeah, yeah, we just we're gonna look <v Speaker 1>bad compared to that. So I don't blame people. <v Speaker 2>I mean, like, that song's good. It's not as good <v Speaker 2>as Temporary Secretary, But you know what is Paul McCartney's <v Speaker 2>genius knows no bounds. But yeah, I'm not surprised that <v Speaker 2>Square is battering down the hatchets are like refortifying fans <v Speaker 2>sentiment towards Final Fantasy fourteen, because boy did they get <v Speaker 2>spooked by it dipping. And yeah, I think there was <v Speaker 2>a lot of reporting around the time of Final Fantasy <v Speaker 2>sixteen or like, oh, did it underperformed? Did it underperform <v Speaker 2>internally the people at Square who knew that game wasn't <v Speaker 2>going to reach the targets that they were setting it <v Speaker 2>because of course it wasn't. It was early in a <v Speaker 2>console generation and only on one console. Like, there's a <v Speaker 2>lot of deluded people at Square Enix. Not everyone is <v Speaker 2>out of their goddamn mind, but like Final Fantasy fourteen <v Speaker 2>having a noticeable dip in subscribers and the sentiment going <v Speaker 2>down especially terrified them. And so I don't think you're <v Speaker 2>going to see Yoshida working on other projects outside of <v Speaker 2>FF four sheen, even if that maybe just was the plan. <v Speaker 2>But yeah, that's that's as much as I'll say. <v Speaker 1>M all right, well, I guess we'll here this next week. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>I grew with some people in Chatterson and he probably <v Speaker 1>just like wrote a song and sent it over to <v Speaker 1>soak In and soak it might add some juja on <v Speaker 1>top and we'll see it there. That's yeah, of course. <v Speaker 1>All right, let's get to the next part where we <v Speaker 1>didn't have a pole question because it was The Bomb <v Speaker 1>twelve last Friday. I'll get a post up today. There <v Speaker 1>will be a new link so people could start submitting <v Speaker 1>their game for the Bomb twelve for this Friday. In <v Speaker 1>the meantime, let's let's do this new pole question. Did <v Speaker 1>you buy a console for Black Friday? No? And then <v Speaker 1>I'm gonna give you the option of PS five Xbox <v Speaker 1>or switch one into only four options. So no next playground. <v Speaker 1>I think that might be a different audience. Anyhow, I <v Speaker 1>like I said, I have an next playground. I might <v Speaker 1>do something with that. We might do a quick look <v Speaker 1>or something. It's like at least two years old. We <v Speaker 1>got it about two years ago, so yeah, I don't know. Yep, <v Speaker 1>read more relevant now, trends, you know me just absolute <v Speaker 1>horror for that stuff. All right, let's see here, so <v Speaker 1>we'll get that full question posted there. It is. Jane's <v Speaker 1>got it up there right now. Go find it on <v Speaker 1>YouTube dot com slash at giant bomb under the post tab. <v Speaker 1>You can get it there, all right, Lexi, Where can <v Speaker 1>people find you on the internet? What do you have <v Speaker 1>going on? And all that good stuff. <v Speaker 2>Yes, I'm super busy at the moment. You can find <v Speaker 2>me on blue sky at Lexlodi do x y z. <v Speaker 2>Currently start Menu is doing its own end of the year <v Speaker 2>winter spectacular, where every day through October we have different <v Speaker 2>guests writing pieces for the website. Just today, Gabe from <v Speaker 2>eight to four Play wrote his list for us, his <v Speaker 2>Game of the Year list, so go check that out. <v Speaker 2>It's a fun read. And we've had some really cool <v Speaker 2>other people on there, a bunch of people that I <v Speaker 2>met over in Japan who were like way into the <v Speaker 2>idea of being involved in this. So casting a wider <v Speaker 2>net this year and getting some cool people involved, and <v Speaker 2>it's not just you know, journals and people in the <v Speaker 2>traditional games writing space. We try to get like everyone <v Speaker 2>from pure people to game developers to anyone who like <v Speaker 2>wouldn't normally have an outlet to write something like this, <v Speaker 2>to be able to write about whether it be their <v Speaker 2>top ten games or like just what their thoughts on <v Speaker 2>the industry are this year, or advice to people. So <v Speaker 2>check that out on startmanu dot co dot UK. <v Speaker 1>All right, let's see here, Like I said that pole <v Speaker 1>question from earliers can go up in a giant bomb, <v Speaker 1>and then I say, speaking a giant bomb, we're gonna <v Speaker 1>have a week of content. So tomorrow will be the BombCast. <v Speaker 1>I believe I'll getting back. I'll be getting back in <v Speaker 1>the knuckles outfit, but not to play any game, to <v Speaker 1>watch Mike con Venue, to observe Mike, continue to go <v Speaker 1>down the deep, deep rabbit hole that is leisure to <v Speaker 1>Larry Box Office, bust on Blake Club. We will have <v Speaker 1>to talk over the game ID. <v Speaker 2>I'm getting kind of worried that this is like this <v Speaker 2>is your thing, like yeah, you need this about like this, <v Speaker 2>You're you're getting off on this is that? Is that? <v Speaker 2>What's going on? <v Speaker 1>Here. I don't judge you judge here, h. What I <v Speaker 1>need is for this game to end. It is a nightmare. <v Speaker 1>It's so bad. It's so bad, and I'm not even playing. <v Speaker 2>It's one of the few games where watching someone else <v Speaker 2>play it. After two hours, I'm tired. <v Speaker 1>Yep. <v Speaker 2>I'm like, that was a tough blake club today. I <v Speaker 2>didn't do fucking anything. I was sitting be my desk <v Speaker 2>watching Mike play it. I wasn't even on camera. <v Speaker 1>It's a it's a good pain though. Everybody should tune <v Speaker 1>in and really see what what Dan has done to <v Speaker 1>all of us at this point. <v Speaker 2>It was a master stroke. Credit where credit is you? <v Speaker 2>It was a master stroke. <v Speaker 1>All right, we are gonna have to talk over those <v Speaker 1>game awards. We'll do that. That'll be god. So Thursday night, Yeah, <v Speaker 1>Thursday night, we'll be talking over the game awards. I <v Speaker 1>think we're gonna start like half an hour before the <v Speaker 1>pre show, everybody. That's the plan, So coming out too late. <v Speaker 2>To strap a camera to John and just have a <v Speaker 2>walk around the streets of. <v Speaker 1>La Listen, he'll have a camera strap to him. Whether <v Speaker 1>or not he turns it on, it's his business. So <v Speaker 1>we'll see he's gonna be doing some fun stuff out <v Speaker 1>there everybody. So if you see him, say hi, okay, <v Speaker 1>I think that's everything worth talking about right now. Oh, <v Speaker 1>the site we got it with, the sight is up. <v Speaker 1>It's it is, you know, launching a step at a time. Here, <v Speaker 1>you go to Giant Bomb dot com. I think it <v Speaker 1>should it should work. You can go there. I know <v Speaker 1>there was troubles with with logging in. Chuck's getting everything <v Speaker 1>working in the appropriate order. So just bear with us <v Speaker 1>while things are are getting sorted over there. <v Speaker 2>But but if you run into any troubles with it, <v Speaker 2>just a down like it on Blue Sky. He's the guy, <v Speaker 2>he will sort this out. <v Speaker 1>Chief YEP, chief tech officer. He's all over that stuff. <v Speaker 2>Number one, Silux fan, chief technical Officer. Those the dam's <v Speaker 2>two titles at Giant Bomb. <v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, turn it tune in the BombCast Tomorrow. I'll <v Speaker 1>talk about my my feelings about Metro Prime. For I <v Speaker 1>was gonna like see if I can get it finished <v Speaker 1>and do a review on this episode not writing, but <v Speaker 1>tomorrow we'll talk about it. Okay. I think with all <v Speaker 1>that out of the way, I say, LEXI, thank you <v Speaker 1>for hanging out with me today and talking about video games. <v Speaker 1>I really appreciate it well. <v Speaker 2>It was a pleasure. <v Speaker 1>As always, thank you all for watching and listening. You <v Speaker 1>are the best audience in gaming. Until next time, have <v Speaker 1>a good one, take care of yourself and goodbye.
