Speaker 1: You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio.

00:00:04
Speaker 2: What a day yesterday and last night we spent some time talking about Bam out of Bio getting eighty three on the Wizards. Jason Jackson, the voice of the Miami Heat, will join us, coming up here momentarily. Max Crosby going back to Las Vegas and the Ravens didn't take long. They went out and got Trey Hendrickson from the Bengals and it's a four year deal worth one hundred and twelve million dollars. If you're Joe Burrow, you're probably thinking Max Crosby going back to the Raiders. Then all of a sudden, it's your former teammate, Trey Hendrickson. He'll be in the division. You get to see him twice. You get to see Miles Garrett twice and TJ Watt twice. But that big deal with Trey Hendrickson, and we speculated on where he might go. If you're the Raiders, though, you've already looked at your free agency plan operating as if Max Crosby was off the books. You know you had to absorb Geno Smith's salary. You went out and spent a lot of money on your center, Tyler Lindenbaum, Linderbaum, uh Kway Walker n Kobe Dean, So you're spending money and other teams were affected because the Cowboys were looking at Max Crosby. They turned to Rashaan Gary and then Cincinnati with Trey Hendrickson and his negotiating leverage probably skyrocketed when Max Crosby was sent back to Vegas. But this Max Crosby deal devastating I think for the Raiders because as great as he is, they don't want him back because they don't want to spend that kind of money because they're not ready to win. And you could send him and get two first round picks. The Ravens said, you know what, we were concerned about the long term durability. I don't know what long term is in the NFL. I'm assuming long term means like two years, because I don't think they're gonna be worried if Max Crosby can get up the steps, you know, when he's forty five years of age eight seven seven three DP show email address Dpatdanpatrick dot com, Twitter handle at DP show. We say good morning to our radio affiliates, iHeartRadio, Fox Sports Radio, and those watching on Peacock and the NBC Sports Network, Todd, is Jason Jackson going to join us coming up in about fifteen minutes?

00:02:22
Speaker 3: That's correct?

00:02:23
Speaker 2: Okay, all right, just want to make sure I got the traffic here. It's busy day. I know you're working hard. The Max Crosby story, Dinah Rassini was going to join us now she's talking to Max Crosby, So shall I have an update for us coming up?

00:02:39
Speaker 3: Well?

00:02:39
Speaker 2: When she joins us, I think next hour, but she said I can't do it. I'm gonna be talking to Max, and I said, hold off, we welcome whatever he has to say. After being sent back to Las Vegas. All right, pull question there, Seaton, What are we going to go with an hour? Two? We've got up there right now?

00:02:57
Speaker 4: More surprising the Crosby trade being called off, bammed upping eighty three, or Italy beating the United States of America in baseball.

00:03:06
Speaker 2: Okay, so I would say BAM getting eighty three.

00:03:09
Speaker 4: BAM getting eighty three has forty two percent of the vote, and then it's a tie for second between the Crosby trade and Italy beating the US.

00:03:22
Speaker 2: I would probably put Team USA losing to Italy way down on the list. Max Crosby, that trade that shocked. I think that shocked a lot of people.

00:03:34
Speaker 4: Yesterday The whole idea of Italy beating the United States was a punchline, like we were laughing about it, about the idea of Italy. Actually what they even have a team? Who knew that they even had a team. I'm shocked that people are are not surprised at that.

00:03:48
Speaker 2: Yeah, but they got a lot of players who play in the major leagues, so I mean they got a chance. So far.

00:03:57
Speaker 4: The only thing that the Italian team had really been no for us having an espresso machine in there dugout. Other than that, it was just like, ah, yeah, so anyway, USA, Japan, we all know how this is going.

00:04:12
Speaker 2: Well, maybe after the fact, I'm not surprised after watching them play last night, then I'm not surprised, But yesterday I would have been surprised. Yes, I'm a journalist here, all right, got it?

00:04:24
Speaker 3: Yes?

00:04:25
Speaker 2: Poll question for hour two is.

00:04:27
Speaker 4: Going to be what pole question for our tomb Well, actually, you know, we just got hour one up there, so we're gonna let that breathe for a minute. We also have two here from Todd the Ravens. Did that the Raiders dirty or the right thing?

00:04:45
Speaker 2: Well, I'm gonna say both, because if they realized that there was some kind of structural damage that would concern them, and you can rescind the trade, you can send him back and you could still keep your two first round picks. This year, they did the right thing now ethically though it sounds strange to say that with the NFL, but ethnically with teams and how you deal with one another. I'm assuming that you know he doesn't have a healthy knee at that position, the way he plays coming off surgery. I just don't know. You can say, hey, we're concerned about long term durability, and then all of a sudden, you're done. I don't know if it was buyer remorse now could have been that. It's like when you buy a house and then all of a sudden you go, oh my god, did we overspend? And then you get the inspection and then you say to the person inspecting, could you please find something so we get out of this.

00:05:50
Speaker 5: Yeah, PAULI I think it's irony. Trey Hendrickson missed a good chunk of the season. I think ten games with a hip and core muscle INJURYX Crosby is injured, wanted to keep playing, and his team shut him down when he wanted to keep playing.

00:06:06
Speaker 2: The Ravens aren't concerned about Trey Hendrickson's long term durability.

00:06:09
Speaker 5: Apparently they'll waive the medical.

00:06:11
Speaker 2: Yes, so Trey has a hard time walking after four years, the Ravens won't be as concerned, but they will be concerned about Max Crosby. All right, eight seven to seven to three. DP show email address DP Atdanpatrick dot com, Twitter handle at DP show. Let's see Alfred in Chicago leads us off this second hour.

00:06:30
Speaker 6: Hi Alfred, Hey, Dan, first time caller five eleven, two hundred. So this critical reaction to Vam's eighty three kind of reminds me of the critical reaction to Roger Morris's sixty one. In sixty one, he wasn't supposed to break bay Ruth single season record, Mickey Mantel was also, Maris did in an extra regular season games as compared with the Babe, so for decades, Marris's record had an asterisk capture. Anyway, I'd love to hear what you and again i'd have to say about that, Thank you very much. I love the show.

00:07:05
Speaker 2: Thank you, Alfred. I don't think there'll be an asterisk. There might be a mental one attached to it by the way it played out. And once again we'll talk to Jason Jackson, who's the voice of the Miami Heat. Because they were going out of their way. The game was out of reach, it was not in doubt, and they were trying to make sure that Bam out of Bayo would get more opportunities, which he did. Turbo in Buffalo, Hey Turbo, Hey.

00:07:32
Speaker 7: Dan, thanks for taking my call. A couple of interesting stat lines. Todd was saying earlier that one. They're just bringing it out. The follow him Tristan Yukovich. I'm looking at my robot machine.

00:07:43
Speaker 6: Here.

00:07:44
Speaker 8: He played seven minutes. He had five personal fouls and on TAPA, look at them out of a stat line twenty for he missed twenty three shots, and then three point seven for twenty two, and then there the three point line thirty six for forty forty three free throw attempts.

00:08:04
Speaker 5: I remember you.

00:08:06
Speaker 8: I don't remember, but when you played in high school, I remember getting the free throw line one too many times and I started to feel embarrassed. I guess it's ridiculous.

00:08:15
Speaker 2: I never felt embarrassed to go to the free throw line ever. And yeah, it's a lot of shots. It's a lot of free throws. Uh seven for twenty two from three point range.

00:08:27
Speaker 5: Yeah, Paulie, I'm looking at the box score of Wizard's Heat, which I would never have done ever in my life. And the amount of players who you would know from both these rosters is shocking. That there's no Will Riley, Trey Johnson, Anthony Gill, Myron Gardner, Pelly Larson. I mean they are just nobody's you know, jeez. Yeah, where's the star power?

00:08:51
Speaker 2: Did Trey Young play?

00:08:53
Speaker 5: Now he watched this one, because he would have answered with seventy.

00:08:57
Speaker 3: Oh you would. Yeah, that's too bad.

00:09:00
Speaker 2: Yeah, he had a couple of fouls to give John and Illinois. Hi, John, what's on your mind?

00:09:07
Speaker 8: Hey?

00:09:07
Speaker 2: Dan?

00:09:07
Speaker 9: Sixty three to sixty five. I just want to say you're great and you're staying in your lane when it comes to this topic, because I think scoring eighty three is scoring eighty three. However you do it, you get it. And I'm a huge Kobe Bryant fan, and it hurts, but he's always going to be remembered as a great Bam will probably just be remembered as a second place person.

00:09:35
Speaker 2: You know, Bam has had a pretty good career, went to the NBA Finals twice. It's a good career, four time All Defensive player. It's just weird where you go. Man, he's a great defensive player, and he scored the second most points in the history of the NBA. Cody in Texas, Hi, Cody, what's on your mind?

00:09:55
Speaker 10: Hey Dan? You know I think Bam. You know, it's a great accomplishment, But look at two separate things. You know, whether it's Kobe's eighty one or Kobe's eighty one or bams eighty three, you know, it's a different conversation than what's the most impressive? You know, to me, the most impressive of all time was Lebron's Game five back in oh seven against Detroit. Detroit was easily the best defensive team, you know, arguably with the Spurs that year. But you know, from three minutes until the fourth quarter in the game to double overtime, he scored twenty five straight points and won that game. That is easily more you know, impressive than Tobe's eighty one or even bams eighty three.

00:10:35
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's.

00:10:36
Speaker 2: Hard to compare. Well, what did Isaiah do on a bad ankle against the Lakers in the NBA Finals. Did he score like twenty twenty three points?

00:10:48
Speaker 5: I think in a quarter he scored twenty three. I have had forty three in the game.

00:10:51
Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, that was pretty impressive on a bad ankle against the Lakers in Los Angeles. But there's been so many great performance and yes, you know Lebron with what he did. I can look what Michael Jordan did against the Celtics in the Boston Garden. I mean he lost the game, but that's where everybody in the NBA, especially Larry Bird, realized there's a new sheriff in town. In fact, I think Larry even said that. So when you're talking about historical performances, that was a change, literally changing of the guard. It went from its magic Larry Larry magic. No, it's Mike's and Mike never looked back. So if you look at historical performances, that's when Mike and the Bulls put the Celtics in. Everybody in the NBA on notice. This is just numbers, this is math. That was something that was actually tangible. You saw something that changed the NBA that day. Yeah, Marvin.

00:11:51
Speaker 11: And it's the perfect time to do it because there's no NFL season. So if he did this in early November, I'm not even sure. If we it would have been a mention.

00:12:00
Speaker 2: We would know it would be mentioned if you put up eighty three.

00:12:03
Speaker 11: Oh you said, I said, mentioned, But it wouldn't be like a full segment.

00:12:07
Speaker 2: Yes, it would. It's eighty three points.

00:12:10
Speaker 5: I would have worked in the Rundown Heat Wizards.

00:12:13
Speaker 2: It's still eighty three, right, It's still real to me.

00:12:16
Speaker 3: Damn it. You're right, but just this time of year.

00:12:20
Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, here is bam out of bio on When he realized he was having a special night.

00:12:28
Speaker 12: Probably when I had forty five at the half. Obviously my teammates is very geeked at halftime. So for me, it was just remain in calm and remaining locked in and understanding, like I can go for some special now.

00:12:43
Speaker 3: I didn't think it was gonna.

00:12:44
Speaker 12: Be eighty three, but it's surreal because, like I said, man, to be able to do it at home, in front of my mom, in front of my people, in front of the home fans, like this is a this is a marketing history that will forever be remember.

00:13:01
Speaker 2: Yeah, he had so many points. He forgot how many points he had at halftime. He gave himself forty five at halftime. I think he had forty three.

00:13:10
Speaker 5: And yeah, Pauline, this is not a direct comparison, but back in the late eighties, John Stockton had the record with twenty seven assists in an NBA game. That was the all time record at the time. A year later, it got passed by Scott Skiles, a guy not in danger of going to the Hall of Fame. It's a little apples and origines, but it's a little the same. He passed Stockton, and Stockton probably loved that record.

00:13:33
Speaker 2: I don't think Stockton cared about it any he had.

00:13:36
Speaker 5: Actually, Stockton had the top three games for assists all time, and Scott Skiles passed him a year later.

00:13:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, Scott Skyles just celebrated a birthday here a couple of days ago. Gritty, gutty Scottie still loved you loved him. I liked him at Michigan State. He had his socks pulled up all the way to his knees. He was never fast enough, quick enough. He wasn't anything other than he was just gritty and gutty.

00:14:06
Speaker 5: He's a none time All Star, but he has the all time assist record for a game.

00:14:10
Speaker 3: That's cool.

00:14:11
Speaker 2: Not like a Marvin's holding his head when I say, you know, gritty gutty probably first one in last one to leave gosh, probably son of a coach.

00:14:19
Speaker 11: NBA players gritty and gutty. I'm sorry. This has to just be a little bit of talent.

00:14:23
Speaker 5: Gosh.

00:14:23
Speaker 11: It kills me, especially when it's like white point guards all super athletes.

00:14:28
Speaker 3: Oh my god. TJ Mcconnelly's gritty and gouddy.

00:14:31
Speaker 11: He went to Arizona, he did something before.

00:14:36
Speaker 2: Peyton Pritchard scoring gravy gutty? What yeah, gritty and gutty?

00:14:42
Speaker 3: Oh my goodness.

00:14:44
Speaker 2: Was Mark Jackson gritty and gutty?

00:14:47
Speaker 5: Just gritty?

00:14:48
Speaker 3: Yeah?

00:14:48
Speaker 5: He couldn't get the other high half of it.

00:14:49
Speaker 2: He wasn't goutty.

00:14:50
Speaker 3: No, if he was white, he would have been gritty and goody.

00:14:52
Speaker 2: Oh oh yeah, yeah that's true.

00:14:55
Speaker 11: You can't be black and be gritty and gutty, like, oh, it's just natural ability.

00:15:01
Speaker 2: Is there a black player who's gritty and gutty?

00:15:05
Speaker 11: Marvin Rondo, you know what I don't think it's for point guards. You got to be like a power for you gotta be like bow Outlaw to be gritty and guddy, I think you got to be at that level. You gotta be Clarence Weatherspoon. How about Tyrone t Time Hill? Come on, all first team gritty and guddy, all first team smile. It was damn you happy he had.

00:15:32
Speaker 2: You know that the actress who was in White Lotus this last season, who had the part in her teeth, Uh forget what her name is, last name? Maybe would that the Tyrone t Time Hill? They he had kind of the Lincoln Tunnel with that old.

00:15:47
Speaker 5: Comparison, the girl from White Lotus and Tyrone Hill. We're doing that again, Yeah.

00:15:51
Speaker 2: Yes, Seton. Did we mention Macus Smapa is a gritty gutty player right there? I like it.

00:16:00
Speaker 4: You know who I think doesn't get enough credit for being gritty and gutty too, aside from Malcus Small, uh, Jimmy Butler.

00:16:06
Speaker 2: Jimmy Butler is a gritty gutty player. Might be too talented to be gritty guddy early bulls gritty gutty. He might want to be gritty gutty. I think he I think he is gritty and gutty. I agree with Paulie. Maybe early bulls gritty and gutty, and all of a sudden it's like, man, he's really good. Like Kawhi might have been gritty and gutty when he first got to San Antonio.

00:16:33
Speaker 11: Then you started showing talent then, you know, yeah, s Marvin Marcus Smart, Marcus Small. I'm not sure if I can put him in the gritty and gutty what because he was I am he was a lottery pick. I can't give you gritty and gutty and your pick seventh overall you can You could be a lottery pick and be gritty and gutty.

00:16:51
Speaker 2: Well, I don't know. Maybe he regressed in and kind of morphed into a gritty, gutty guy.

00:16:56
Speaker 3: Are we say?

00:16:57
Speaker 4: Are we saying lottery picks don't do the dirty work generally?

00:17:01
Speaker 3: But I'm not. I don't want you to be greedy and guddy? Is the seventh pick? Yeah?

00:17:05
Speaker 5: Poul The actress's name from white Lotus Amy blue Wood.

00:17:09
Speaker 2: Yeah.

00:17:10
Speaker 5: And she her teeth, yeah, she's they're like independent contractors.

00:17:14
Speaker 2: All her she she was great and might loaded smoking. Her teeth are independent contract.

00:17:21
Speaker 5: Yeah, they appear to be doing their own thing, separate from each other.

00:17:25
Speaker 2: You see kids now that want to have the space between their teeth.

00:17:28
Speaker 5: They aspire to this.

00:17:29
Speaker 2: Yes, is nice. I think so. I think it's a thing.

00:17:34
Speaker 3: I think. I think.

00:17:35
Speaker 2: I think they're liking a gap in your teeth.

00:17:37
Speaker 3: Yeah.

00:17:38
Speaker 5: Yeah, what did I just paid twenty thousand dollars for over the past five years? Holy cow, Dan, I know, I know.

00:17:45
Speaker 2: Okay, let me take a break, Jason Jackson. Let Jason know he's got to defend this performance by bam out of bio. How dare you score eighty three?

00:17:55
Speaker 3: The way you did it? It's still real to you.

00:17:58
Speaker 2: We'll be back after this.

00:19:12
Speaker 2: Multiple reports have the Ravens reworking the contract of Lamar Jackson. Sources say the restructuring with Jackson creates about forty million dollars in salary cap space for this upcoming season, similar to what Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen have done this offseason for their teams. Jason Jackson, voice of the Miami Heat, was on the call on radio last night. By the way, before I get to Jay Jacks, there was some logic that crept in last night with the Washington Wizards broadcast. Their announcer, Chris Miller suggested that the Miami Heat were prepared to take Bem out of bio out and out of respect for Kobe Bryant, and that didn't happen, of course, and we welcome in Ja Jackson. What should we remember about this performance? That I had to make the call on free throws? I think that's the only thing that you should have to worry about, Daniel lovely Flatnel this morning, by the way, there in Maine, eighty degrees here in South Florida with my Bam T shirt on. I think the thing that we have to do, and I'm not sure if you're willing to do this, is at this stage in lifetand we have to step back sometimes.

00:20:26
Speaker 3: Remember we cover sports. It's just sports. It's fun.

00:20:33
Speaker 14: It was funky, it was weird, it was cool, and then we move on like no one. We won another game, So the Miami Heat have won six in a row, moved out of the play in spot.

00:20:44
Speaker 3: That's all that really matters. The main thing is the main thing, it's winning.

00:20:48
Speaker 14: But for Bam, I think it's going to be one of the most memorable things in his life because he grew up in a single wide trailer with a single mother in North Carolina dreaming about Kobe Brand and had a really cool moment as a guy who has done everything right, who doesn't really focus on scoring, who made his craft in this league as a defender and rebounder, who took the mantle from Alonzo Mourning, Dwayne Wade, and Udonis haslam as a culture carrier for this organization and has been to the finals twice and hasn't been able to stay at the mountaintop just yet in those areas, and then also takes on the responsibility of being the lead force in the community for organization. That part of it all feels good. This is one of the first let's put air quote great heat players who I have been able So I'll make it about me now, Dan who I've been able to see from Draft night to all the way through. When I arrived here in two thousand and four, Dwayne Wade was already a player. Lebron James came to Miami already was a player, And so this is it's just fun for the fan base. Anything outside of that it just kind of filters into this hater mode. We didn't have social media in two thousand and six. When Kobe went for eighty one, so.

00:22:11
Speaker 3: I'm not sure the response probably would have had its level of in it as well. There's literally no video. We have a sheet of paper with one hundred on it for willed.

00:22:21
Speaker 14: I'm sure old Knicks fans are still trying to wonder what happened to them that night. Let me just say, my good friend Chris Miller, going to my good friend Chris Miller for a moment, I will filibuster, sir, I.

00:22:33
Speaker 3: Will see this.

00:22:35
Speaker 14: What were you pressing full court and triple teaming demand for in the second half of the fourth quarter?

00:22:42
Speaker 3: It created what probably you're.

00:22:44
Speaker 14: Not loving as the basketball purist that I know, the proud son of Mason Ohio is presenting right now.

00:22:52
Speaker 2: Well, no, I keep telling everybody, it's still eighty three. Okay, it's still meant the at the end of the day, ten years, twenty years, and still eighty three. I did think about this. How do you think Kobe, if he were still with us, would have viewed that performance last night? The way there was intentionally fouling keeping him in the game, the game's out of reach. How do you think Kobe would have viewed that performance?

00:23:19
Speaker 14: Kobe had a level of ranker that would have possibly finger wagged it. But I think Kobe would have liked Bam and BAM's game overall from a night in, night out basis, So there might have been a little love there, you know, the gold medal club from Team USA.

00:23:35
Speaker 3: You never know how those things go.

00:23:38
Speaker 14: As I've gotten older, Dan, I will turn fifty three heres as winter turns to spring. I've decided that I am in search of joy all of the time, all of the time. So when you're calling a game like this, obviously you can't anticipate on a Tuesday night against the Wizards, that something unique and special is going to occur. So I say thank you, adrise Bam out of bio. And by the way, Bam hates when you use his given name, but I don't get to say it up, so I thought I throw it out for you.

00:24:10
Speaker 2: Okay, did you talk to Spolster about his philosophy down the stretch when he realized that he had a chance to surpass Kobe.

00:24:19
Speaker 14: I am on the set live at about two hundred yards away when that happens, Dan, But it was asked of him and it was aired on Heat Live last night, and I think he gave the most beautiful answer in the sense that for that guy, for what he's meant for nearly a decade, to the head coach and to the franchise. For those that don't watch Miami Heat basketball every single night, you're not going to connect with this fiber.

00:24:42
Speaker 3: Right. This is about a guy that took the church from.

00:24:46
Speaker 14: A guy who played for twenty years in Eudonnas Haslam and the best player in the history in Dwayne Wade, and put the entire organization and what it means and the Heat culture.

00:24:56
Speaker 3: That makes everybody roll their eyes and all of that on his shoulders.

00:25:01
Speaker 14: He went to Kentucky just like the president of the organization, pat Riley, like.

00:25:05
Speaker 3: All of it and does a beautiful job with it his own way.

00:25:08
Speaker 14: You know, he's not necessarily a big, in your face, raw Rob Barker, but the way that he goes about his craft as a world class defender, a outstanding if not elite, rebounder, and a guy who's developed You've watched it over nine seasons, developed his game into the modern big man, got to go out and knock it down from twenty three feet dynamic man. When he came out of Kentucky, there was no way I would have thought man would be a three point shooter, but has become super serviceable and does whatever is asked of him. I think this is the thing that's most warming about it. He thinks about scoring least from the dribble handoff to the actual assist. He's setting up other guys offensively to score, and so it's just I'm leaving it as what.

00:25:54
Speaker 3: I assume is a one off. Like I was, quarter was fantastic. That was real basketball. That was him lighting guys up.

00:26:01
Speaker 14: And then when he got the halftime and they already had his career high plus it was it was wild to.

00:26:08
Speaker 3: Where it could go.

00:26:10
Speaker 2: Okay, being the basketball purist that you are, take yourself out of take your Miami bead headphones off, and look at that in the last five minutes of the game, right, would you have a problem because you're the anomaly, Like you're all in. You saw history, you saw something great. The reaction I've gotten this morning is people are really upset. But I think part of that has to do with Kobe. But let's just look at the actual basketball style that was played in the last five minutes or so.

00:26:44
Speaker 14: Yeah, I probably if I was calling it on the other side, I would have been snarky ish with a hint of but it's still competition.

00:26:56
Speaker 3: You got to try to stop him, you know. So that's where I always get if I do get.

00:27:01
Speaker 14: Nut, like if it's a Celtics Heat game and you know, Brown or Tatum's going nuts and they're still in and the game's gone and there's.

00:27:08
Speaker 3: Three minutes to go.

00:27:10
Speaker 14: I note that there are sometimes special moments and if you're gunning for something, I'm fine with that.

00:27:17
Speaker 3: I tend to be.

00:27:18
Speaker 14: But I will I'll well some some serious village of evandale. Snark will be coming out fully from my throat.

00:27:27
Speaker 3: No doubt.

00:27:27
Speaker 2: He's Jason Jackson, the voice of the Miami Heat. Greatest NBA performance you've ever witnessed, whether regular season, postseason, did I have to.

00:27:38
Speaker 3: Be in person that I have to be in person for?

00:27:40
Speaker 6: It?

00:27:40
Speaker 3: Was that the key? I will tell you you know what, there's two of them.

00:27:45
Speaker 14: I'll tell you when san Antonio closed out in ninety nine that that was it was.

00:27:53
Speaker 3: It was not it was a moment more than a performance.

00:27:55
Speaker 14: I'll give you the performance in a moment because Avery knocked down that last jumper baseline. If I'm remembering that correctly, the only reason I wouldn't remember is because you and Stuart Scott would push me out of the way and I couldn't do any sports center hits. So thank goodness for ESPN News. Yeah, thank you, Thank you News for giving me some time to talk about these things I allegedly covering. Did you see the reference coming?

00:28:24
Speaker 3: Dan? Thank you for that focus. We then lock it in, lock it in. I'm a bro.

00:28:32
Speaker 14: But the best performance I've ever seen was Game six Lebron James in Boston.

00:28:38
Speaker 3: You win that game where it's.

00:28:39
Speaker 14: Not by the way, you gotta win the game right because it doesn't allow for the lore of him becoming a champion to even present itself in appropriate way. But on the road forty plus leave, nine rebounds, handful of assists, that scowl looking underneath the brow that forever hangs on the walls in Miami. That thing was that that was just it was literally like watching a lion walk the syring, get it and eat everything along the way.

00:29:12
Speaker 3: But that was pretty.

00:29:13
Speaker 14: Astonishing by the way, that has to watching someone score that much, and and the willingness of the Wizards to put that man on the line as much as they did.

00:29:21
Speaker 3: Again, it was it was astonishing in a different way.

00:29:24
Speaker 14: And so I don't want to take anything from from BAM, because BAM has given us so much.

00:29:29
Speaker 2: Is the broadcast going to the Basketball Hall of Fame, the dunk.

00:29:36
Speaker 3: To pass, the bronze, the handle game record, the BAM slam, which was all first of all, always tasty.

00:29:47
Speaker 14: All right, you want some pumper nickel with that one, all right, and you might want it toast it, you might want it listen.

00:29:55
Speaker 3: And that was the thing after that, and then I.

00:29:57
Speaker 14: Will I'll admit this only to you and in your illustrious audience here on Peacock. And the great thing about being here with you is there's literally a peacock outside my window screaming all morning long.

00:30:09
Speaker 3: And then I'm on Peacock with you. It's the best on bring.

00:30:12
Speaker 14: But I started thinking about this, and you've known me since I was a young young adult. I leaned towards fun and funny. It's what I it just it provides me with my sustenance. But after he passed Lebron, I was like, Okay, now you're calling stuff that might play forever. Let's just kind of let's get it right down the middle. And it was tough because I've listened back, and the moment for eighty three happened at the free throw line anyway. So it wasn't going to provide for this full beautiful baritone that I've that I've that I've cherished and presented through bourbon and cigars all these years.

00:30:51
Speaker 3: It didn't. It didn't have that full moment there.

00:30:54
Speaker 2: Yeah, you got to love that the bam slangwich EPs you. Oh yeah, of course, but you you got cheated. You needed a jumper, you needed a slam. You needed something not free throws. You know, when you're calling something.

00:31:08
Speaker 3: That's let's make it about bam. Let's not.

00:31:11
Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, that's all right.

00:31:13
Speaker 14: By the way, you know what you need on the wall back there, buddy, I want you to hop on Miami heatstore dot.

00:31:18
Speaker 3: Com right now.

00:31:19
Speaker 14: For eighty three dollars, you can get yourself an authentic BAM.

00:31:25
Speaker 3: Jersey.

00:31:25
Speaker 2: Now if we could, Seaton, would you go back there by the bar every Seaton?

00:31:31
Speaker 9: Yeah?

00:31:31
Speaker 3: Yeah, oh you already have a bam Do you already have it? Yeah? Oh you have everything?

00:31:38
Speaker 2: What was I think autographed? Oh? Come on? Yeah, you know what I got for you right there?

00:31:46
Speaker 3: Hot bam bam sandwich.

00:31:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think it says from one score to another.

00:31:57
Speaker 14: I thought it says if you read Indeed, I thought that's what that said, right there, see glory, it's van of white.

00:32:06
Speaker 3: Work out of you.

00:32:07
Speaker 2: By the way, thank you, seatan. By the way, that whole story about me playing against Stuart Scott that was supposed to be in the documentary, it didn't make it in the documentary.

00:32:17
Speaker 3: Who had the audacity to come?

00:32:21
Speaker 2: They wanted me to tell the story and I said, no, let somebody else and they said, oh, we're going to get Jason Jackson to tell the story. And then it doesn't even make it.

00:32:32
Speaker 3: No, I don't think I was in it at all. By the way, didn't boo yah? Yeah.

00:32:39
Speaker 2: I'm here to cheer you. I'm here to boo yah man. All right, yeah, good luck with the next game and encoreporate.

00:32:48
Speaker 3: Listen.

00:32:49
Speaker 14: How about this in honor of BAM's number, thirteen thirteen dollars tickets to Buck's Heat tomorrow night in Paradise.

00:32:57
Speaker 3: Where it will be eighty plus degrees and not a low of thirty six. I you'll enjoy there in May.

00:33:04
Speaker 2: Why why do you do this? No, no, no, no, I just July in August crying when you're calling you.

00:33:10
Speaker 3: Ever, No, baby, that's when I that's when I sweat. The weight goes big. Get that water, bourbon, brother, you get.

00:33:17
Speaker 14: To the only time Dan comes to uh Miami's if Lebtard calls, I can't true, I can't get that man down here at all.

00:33:24
Speaker 2: That is true. Yeah, that is true.

00:33:26
Speaker 3: Yeah, but darkness remains your weakness. I'll tell you that.

00:33:29
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, hello, darkness my own friend. Yeah it's Jason damn it. Yeah, it's Jay Jacks. If you're nasty, If you're nasty, Uh, next time he scores eighty three, I'm going to have you back on the show.

00:33:44
Speaker 14: Okay, Yeah, it's been three years, Dan, So man, I wasn't I wasn't counting, but I could go back on my phone.

00:33:50
Speaker 3: Fritzy hit me in during the finals in twenty three. Yeah, to have me on.

00:33:56
Speaker 2: That's let's all say goodbye to Jay Jacks. Jason Jackson. Everybody's waving to you. Boo yon peace ound. We will take a break back after this.

00:34:19
Speaker 2: Uh, the Defensive Player of the Year odds are out now. You would expect that Miles Garrett would be the favorite. You would be surprised too, is the second favorite to win the Defensive Player of the Year, Todd. I'll start with you. Who has the second best odds to be the Defensive Player of the year. Cordy hendricks Grey Hendrickson seatan. How about Miles Garrett, He's one?

00:34:51
Speaker 3: Oh, he's one.

00:34:52
Speaker 2: How about Max Crosby He's two? What Max Crosby is? Second? And then followed by Micah Parson, Aiden Hutchinson and Will Anderson Junior the third that's aggressive? Didn't they say he just failed as physical? Yeah, yeah, just fail. We don't even know where. We don't know where he's playing next year. You don't even know what he's doing. Yeah, pretty crazy? Uh, Tim and Illinois, Good morning, Tim? What's on your mind today?

00:35:21
Speaker 3: Hey?

00:35:21
Speaker 15: Dan, first time a long time five nine seventy six. I want to talk a little WBC here World Baseball Classic. Of course I want the USA to win, but I want to give a shout out to Sam Antonanci, who grew up in Springfield, Illinois, who is the shortstop for the Italian team, and I can't imagine the adrenaline that was going through him. He grew up these USA guys, his idols as he was growing up, with the adrenaline running through him as he circles the bases. When he had a two run homer in the second inning last night, I mean, I'm sixty two years old.

00:36:05
Speaker 10: I stood in my living room and cheered for the kid.

00:36:07
Speaker 3: It was just awesome. That's great.

00:36:10
Speaker 2: If Italy wins tonight against Mexico, Italy and the United States advance. If Mexico wins and scores five or more runs, Mexico and Team USA advance. If Mexico wins and scores four runs or less, Mexico and Italy advance. Thanks for the phone call, Tim Tony in Rochester.

00:36:31
Speaker 16: Hi, Tony, Hey, Dan, thanks for taking my call a long time. A couple of times just wanted to mention on them out.

00:36:41
Speaker 9: To buy you.

00:36:43
Speaker 16: If you look at the average age of the starting lineup that he played against, it's twenty years old. And you know, it's kind of a confluence here of where the NBA is at in terms of tanking and play in too many games. And I think a thing like this where an all defensive player scores eighty three points is kind of bound to happen. And if you look at the way those twenty year old guys were playing defense, they're not used to playing defense in the NBA yet, and they were getting a lot of fouls called against them.

00:37:20
Speaker 2: Well, that's a lot of fouls. And he shot, you know, when you're going to the free throw line forty three times. But I don't know if we did this with any other scoring performance where we looked at the average age of the team that that player played against. I just it's still eighty three points, and I don't want to lose sight of that. Now we can talk about what happened in the last couple of minutes. I have a problem with that, But I don't agree that out of respect to Kobe, you take Bam Autobio out. No, I mean, Kobe may not like is and it's not even a record, it's the second highest scoring mark. I'm sure that he'd be like, hey, you know, I would never come out if it was the other way around. If Michael Jordan had eighty one and Kobe had a chance to beat him, what would he do? He would certainly go out and try to beat him. So let's just be fair to the situation here. And I don't know if we are because I think we have a problem with it's bam out of Bio and he did it against the Wizards, and something was nefarious there in the closing minutes there, the number of free throws that he took. He's not a great score, and I understand all of that. He still scored eighty three, Yeah, Palling.

00:38:37
Speaker 5: I saw a few people on Twitter, NBA media, people not random people that said bam at of Bio would have looked awesome if he took himself out with eighty points, he would have looked awesome. He probably would have today. He probably would have been lauded for doing that. But that's not natural to competitors. Bam At of Bio doesn't think he's second to anybody, and to expect him or to think that he might take himself out because I want to defer to Kobe Bryant's memory, that's not very realistic.

00:39:03
Speaker 2: I don't think Roger Maris didn't. Nobody said that, Hey, did you think you should take yourself out? So you didn't pass Babe Ruth.

00:39:12
Speaker 3: I don't.

00:39:12
Speaker 2: I don't think so and Babe played in one hundred and fifty four games. Roger didn't won sixty two. They're competitors. I don't think you'd get go man, I'm competing, competing, competing now, I'm not gonna compete now, I'm gonna take myself out of the game. Would it have been a cool gesture, Yes, it would have been, But I'm not going to put that on him. Yes, Marvin.

00:39:33
Speaker 11: And also for a guy like Bam out of Bay, who's not a score by nature, he'll never have this opportunity ever. Again, he was hotter than Fish Grease in the first half. Like you know what, his coach, his teammates, come on, let's try to do as much as we can. I saw, hey, Bam bios got sixty two points. I was like, man, what a night for him. Wait, he's in the third quarter. I was like, man, he can do it. I was a reform Also.

00:39:57
Speaker 5: Yeah, Paul, I want to go back to what you said. I think that's a great compare Harris and the Roger Merris Babe Ruth thing. If you watch that movie sixty one on HBO, that was part of the movie. You shouldn't be passing Babe Ruth. It should be it should be Mickey Mantle. You shouldn't be doing this.

00:40:11
Speaker 3: Who are you?

00:40:12
Speaker 5: You're new to this team. That's a great comparison.

00:40:15
Speaker 2: Lucas in Texas. Hi, Luke, what's on your mind?

00:40:18
Speaker 1: Hey Dan?

00:40:18
Speaker 17: Good morning, Good morning. Two quick things for you. Number one, First off, this is just begging for a judge Dan Patrick to hold a sport court ruling. But you know, I'll wait for that judgment. The second thing related to the Bam outa bio situation. It kind of reveals to me like the psychology of sports fans, both good and bad, where we just like we've become gatekeepers that say the one that I saw, the one that I was invested in, the player that I covered, or whatever, he has to be the best. I think that's part of what goes into the Jordan Lebron stuff, the Roger Merris, Babe Ruth. Because of who were invested in, who were actively watching, we have we have to say that one has to be the best because I haven't seen anything better, even though historically there might be a better one. I would tell all the Kobe fans calm down. His legacy is not in trouble he is a top five or ten NBA player all time, and it's one statistical difference. So just something unique about how sports fans kind of become fedas.

00:41:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, and great points there, Lucas. We've become territorial because with some people no one could ever surpass Michael Jordan. You'd have people who might not think anybody could surpass Bill Russell, Babe Ruth, I mean, we kind of climb that mountain and we plant our flag there. Got to evolve, got to be open minded, at least, Diana Russini she'll join us coming up next after speaking to Max Crosby
