See you, guys, I'm going to open a file you Bender. Do you know who that was? Right? The Mask Unit? You knocked them out cold, John. I'm the commissioner of our commit roll by Fighting. I'm a Kannasura jerks who pick fights in movie theaters and you're the biggest I've ever said. You should see me at funerals, kid. I want you in the Ultimate Robot Fighting League. Ultimate robot fighting sounds pleasant road do it? Good news everyone, I'm back baby, Welcome to Tales of Futuramaware. This week we are going to view a viewing an episode that really hit home for me as a wrestling fan of I've always absolutely adored this episode of Futurama. It is a raging bender. I am Dando and I am guy not as much of a wrestling connoisseur as my man Dando, but still had a bit of a blast with this episode because, oh look, anytime the robots a big in the hell out of one another, it's generally gonna be a good time. Robot Wars was one of my favorite shows as a kid. Had It was hosted by the guy who used to be on Red Dwarf, and it was a Craig. Charles Craig. That's the one. Yeah, Yeah, what a show fucking robot was. It was just it was so fun. It was so ridiculous. You think that, I mean, they're still doing it. I think it's just called like bot Wars now or something that thing on Netflix or something the other day. But it's so absurd, but alway, still love. The most was just the absolute disdain from the kids once they've had their robots destroyed, like either they were like so sad or just really angry. I'm always curious about the kind of kid who would create a fighting robot. I had a friend who used to do robot wars here in Jeelan. They said, there's like a little tournament that used to do and I'm thinking his name was Robert. Robert Stott was his name. I said, Robert, how long in between fights? He goes, oh, no, a couple of months. I'm like, imagine spending months building this robot and it's just destroyed in a minute. Jesus. But coming up with coming up with the cool ways to destroy things, like the really creative robots used to like flip them over and and like stabbing while was like coming down from the mid air and stuff, And it's like, how do you create this ship? You know, you're either in awa of that kind of intellect or terrified of that kind of psychology. What are they going to be coming when they're older? Yeah, exactly. But this episode here, as I said as a wrestling fan, there's a fantastic parody of professional wrestling. I know they were going for the UFC with the title the Ultimate Robot Fighting Championship. But this is this is professional wrestling. But even the little things. I love the little things, like one of the fans had a bend of three sixteen shirt on a reference to Steven even robot Mania had the wrestle Mania font. Just little things like that where they really paid attention. Because usually when professional wrestling gets brought up or mocked or parodied in various things, it's the butt of a joke, and it is the butt of the joke in this episode. But they do it in a loving way, and that's what we do. That's what you notice a lot of future when they parodying something, They're mocking it, but doing it from a point of love. I think the best satire is usually done by usually send us from a real appreciation of what you're taking the piss out of. Absolutely only when you really adore or appreciate something can you notice all its little flaws and actions that you can exaggerate for comic effect, which they year, which they've done here with Raging Bender. What did you think of the leader storyline in this one? I thought this had to feel there had to be some sort of like movie parody or something because it just felt like, I know, it's just traditional, you know, old sense a teacher he just bullied you as a kid, a teacher at school who has always means you as a kid, and you've you've come back for revenge when you're older. But it's like karate kid obviously because he loved his teacher. But is there some sort of movie story there somewhere? I think it's just a riff on the you know a bit of an ancient story telling tradition about you know, you've got the the sense or the teacher who you know, sort of leads you on the right direction. And this guy's just a jerk. The best kind of joke though. How funny was he? There was some most of my favorite parts were, you know, yeah, related to this sense. Let's see who voiced mister Funo. That was his name, wasn't it, mister f Mister Funo. He was voiced by David Herman. Okay, cool, So you know from a King of the Hill, everything's connected, So that unifying a theory of four finger discount. Ah, so he's meant to it says, he is meant to be an evil, misogynistic version of the sense in the Karate Kid, mister Miyagi and he and he resembles Master Yet from Star warsn't like does he That's a stretch. I guess his clothes kind of do whatever, but a stretch. No, I'm not seeing it one when you say it, I'm not seeing it. No, No, he looks more like kids. But yeah, he does look like mister mister Jaghi. Don't you reckon a little bit? Only slightly in the beard? Okay they put it that way short, Okay, I'll roll with that. But yeah, do you know the Karate Kids. I've seen the first film, but as when I was a kid, I cannot really recall much about it. And everyone tells me how great the TV show is. I've heard that as well about Cobra Kay. Yeah, yeah, just never really got into it. I mean, I like the first Karate Kid. Fine, I think I'm pretty sure I saw the second one done. I am about the third, But I mean, I think they're bringing back Ary just m pretty much all of them. I didn't say. I didn't see the one that had a Hillary swank. The next Karate Kid it had mister me argue that it didn't have Ralph Marcio Okay, did he wear white in the Karate Kid and the black guys were the bad guys, right they were? Yeah, Gabri Kai were dressed all in black and Daniel Son had had his white pj'son, so he should have been in Copra Kine and movie in the second movie called Karate Kid Back in Black. You're wasted in Gelong Whywood? But anyway, enough about the Karate Kid. But yeah, I am. I really enjoyed him as a character. There's an absolute dipshit And what I loved about it was he was a pro wrestling heel, Like he was so ridiculous, Like it was the perfect bad guy for this episode. And you really wanted Leila to just get him in the end. Didn't, Yeah, because it usually you're just like, ah, Leila winging and planning again. But then you see what he did and you're like, this motherfucking his head kicked in. This guy's a total joke and he yeah, he needs to be kicked. You have one hundred percent right. Look, as I said, I'm not the the biggest wrestling fan, but I do kind of dig that whole soap opera aspect to it, with baby faces and heels, and heel turns and all that kind of stuff. I mean, the storylines that are constructed and played out. I know, so much work goes into them and so much conviction goes into them. Based on what I've seen, it's it's what's what's upon a time? That's pretty ridiculous. Now there's it, Okay, Yeah, I mean it's that WWE's being run by a seventy eight year old man or whatever, So it's how creative can that man be these days? Well, that's true. I mean, hopefully you sort of pass off some of the some of the gruntwork to people who are perhaps a little more on the ball. But I don't know, maybe if you achieve that level of how you think, Well, I didn't get here by accident, so what I say goes yeah exactly. But that we also had the brain Slug returning this episode first appeared. I think it was heading the polls, and we both said in that episode that man, that brain slug does ain't much. And again they've setting the commentary that they wanted this to actually be a season long arm with Hermi's having the brain sleg on and think fuck. They opted not to do that because there's just nothing to it is there. It's just it's like a it's a gag. You could have like a scene, but it's not. It's not even an episode long gag. It's annoying. Oh look, I was pretty happy with that they played it out throughout this episode. It was it was used well in this episode. But my guy, this was a season. Imagine if Hermis was like this for the whole season, No, it would wear very very thin. But having it as kind of like a B plot or even a B minus plot in this particular episode, I'm like, oh, yeah, there's a few good gags out of this. Absolutely. The thing it doesn't there's always looking at the reason it doesn't work for me though, is that they know that all you have to do is just kick it off its head, and Hermi's is fine. So why are they trying to help their friend. That's sort of the one way looking at it. Also, there's the fear of all the kick it off his head and might end up on my head. Now. The only thing I had to this episode as well was so Bender does his first fight, gets backstation and learns that it's all reaked, it's all set up right. It didn't include bender know that before he went out. When you think you'd want to tell any performers or one of them would realize that because surely he does to know who's gonna win, right, you'd think. So it makes sense from a story perspective, because you get the big reveal after the fight. You know, you think it's real, but it's not. From a story perspective, it makes sense, But when you think about it logically, it's like, wait, wait, so they sent him out to the ring not knowing he was going to win the match. At the whole point of this is that it's reaked and both wrestlers know who's going to win. I think sometimes you've just got to sacrifice logic and credibility for the sake of you know, coming back from the commercial brain with a good hook. Well, I've got here. This is what professional wrestling is based on, suspending your disbelief, so you're just gonna do it. But this episode was written by Lou Morton, who actually used to write for Saturday Night Live, You writ from news Radio, and he's also the He also executive produced walk Hard, one of your films that you always bring up on this podcast. Nice work, glue, Yeah, legend. Now he's written twelve episodes of Futurama between him and Kenkila, that is the record. So ken Killer and he have both written twelve episodes of the show. I'm not sure if he's gonna be writing for the new upcoming episodes that are coming out soon, which I can't wait for. But he also went to the same primary school as David X Cohen, one of the show runners of Our Future Rama and Simpson's. And it's it's who you know, isn't it? It is who you know, David, who you went to primary school with? And who you pee japants next to David X Cohen. He is the man who brought us Homer three D the three D seguent correct, yeah, yeah, And it was directed by Ron Hugot, who was known for animating them said on the on the audio commentary, he's no animating the best violent scenes or whatever there's violence, he's your man. So this is obviously the best episode for him to have worked on. And he now works as a co supervising director on American Dad. Good that he landed on his feet. Who is my favorite robot? It's me none out this mirror or what were your favorite moments from the episodes, mister Davis well as mentioned, Yeah, big big fan of Master Phono, who was just a dick in every way shape or vaughn. Um, I'm skipping right to the end here, but that see you when girl. Hell well, I'll be in Boyle, which is nicer. Everything he said was funny. Everything he said was pretty damn funny. Um. I was a huge fan of it. Was just it was only three characters, but sort of the big bads that Bender was up against. That that's my that's my favorite, most the over the top heels. Billionaire Bot's billionaire Bot and he just gets a barrel shoved room and here he's like very poor. Yeah. Probably my favorite was the Foreigner. I'm not from here. Yeah, my customs are different to your check out my passport. Very very funny. I got a genuine, good long laugh out of that. That's the most iconic wrestling heel. The Foreigner, the iron chic all over here. Yeah, and of course the chain smoke like a soon as I'm done here, I'm coming to your favorite restaurant. Yeah, what a legend. Um And of course, um blanket you'll miss it, but look as a as a fan of crot Robot and Tom Servo and Joel and Mike and the rest of the guys on the satellite Love Got a Mystery Science Theater three thousand shout out when they're first of the movies telling them to stop talking during a movie. Tell them to stop talking during the movie when it's a great gag. Yeah, So I loved it, loved it. That's one of those gags where when I first watched Future Rum it lost on me. When I was older and watched this one, I was like, Oh, man, that's great, that's like, that's like, can you think of a better way to use a mystery science theater? Like Joe, there is no They did it. Yea, they did it perfectly. I really did So the wrestlers here, we've got it on them on the you face sphere. I need this anyway. But so the Gorgeous Gonks, Oh, that's one of my fucking questions. Anyway, Gorgeous Gonks was just a um a poster on the wall in the Commissioner's office that's a take off of Gorgeous George. The clear Cutter is a parody of a famous wrestler, Hacks or Jim Duggan just like, yeah, yeah, not you. He'll billy you your lumber your lumber man you used to carry and the two the two by fours, that was his weapon of choice. The foreigner was the iron cheek like you're mentioning. The chain smoker was a guy called the Sandman. You want to know the sand Man. He was in a company called ec W. Appeared in WWE briefly, but he was He used to smoke on his way to the ring. Billionaire Bot of course his million dollar man. Ted Dibiassi one of the most iconic wrestlers of all time. Sergeant Feces, Processor, Sergeant Slaughter and yeah, obviously Destructor but who's not really a take on anybody, but you know, using him is a war crime. But yeah, I'll just got here. My favorite moments where the over the top He'll plus the mister Fnogue when he was first having got Leila like with the fight, won't take me on again. You lose once or more, I didn't think, so it is me you lose again. Terrible terrible human being, not even human being, terrible alien. Oh I want to ask it a question. All right, it's time for truvia before we do that we're going to be carrying on the new box office segment here, what we're gonna give it a name? They trying to give a name for this segment, mister Davis, So you're trying to guess what was number one at the US box office when this episode first aired? Box office? Brain bust you? Yeah, all right, that'll do for now. That's what we're gonna call it this week. But let us know, page give us some suggestions. Dando's holding his day, you stinker. That is a stinky, stinky name. But yeah, so, mister Davis, February twenty seventh, two thousand, what was number one at the US box office for this week? Oh my gosh, the year two week? The week the week of February twenty fifth to March second, of the year two thousand. I'll give you a clue. Stars Your Man, Stars your man that you love so dearly, who unfortunately was diagnosed with dementia. Okay, two thousand. What was he doing in the year two thousand? I want to say sixth cents? This movie would go on to have a sequel. It's almost an identical title, the sequel, damn it. Okay, could these clues be anymore obvious. Oh, it was a whole nine yards, a whole nine yards correct, Oh dear, a sequel of that is just oh god, The Whole ten Yards is just one of the worst movies ever made, really so terrible. Okay, but is that because you had high hosts for it or is it just a bad movie? It's just a bad movie. Okay, we should we should review movies that you just just have a disdain for. Why would you do that to me? What do you think it was number two? One of the Whole ten Yards would certainly number two, if you know what I mean. No, you gotta get me clues down. It's too long. It's been too long. Okay. Christmas is the clue, but not in the way you would have think. Someone you associated with Christmas is in the title. But it's not a Christmas movie. Okay, Red read Santa? Who's who are? So we've got something red that you associate with Christmas time? Oh? For goodness, say no, you're just gonna tell me. And Reindeer games, Oh we'll route off the Red Nose Reindeer and Reindeer Games starring Ben Affleck and Charlie there On. Of course, yes, they were top two when this episode originally aired on February twenty seventh, in the year two thousand. Now before we get into our questions, Davis, of course we're gonna be out the names of our patients because we love them so much. Now the reason we bring you this show each and every second week, so each and every whenever. Yes, so obviously our man Alia Jernil from The Simpsons Index Podcast, Absolute Champion, make sure you hit that subscribe button for them. And Andrew Zer for his fifty dollars support. Also our man heat Applebe for his thirty three fifty support. I love that thirty three fifty so exact awesome, it was very specific. Now, you people may think that I just record those names and play the same clip every time, but I don't. I read them out each and every time when we do this show. I know you don't trust Dando, but you can trust me. I'm looking at Dan though, and he's reading them out every single time, and he's got a big, big smile in his face every time he does, because you know why, he loves each and every one of you. I've also got our newest members of the family here. He's still learning to love you, guy. It won't be long. It won't be long, trust me. All right, what's your first question for me, mister Davis. My first question to you is when they go to the multiplex cinema, m shaft is where as in which cinema? No, No, the's on the on the Marquee shaft in where shaft in where I'm going to say Africa nine, and you would be correct. I just looked it up in the notes. The other the other movies that appear. He came from Planet Earth, which was from the episode Fear of a pot Planet when Fry was pretending to be a robot. Remember he's like, God help me or whatever. Remember he yells out like he's scared in the in the in the cinema that was it came from Planet Earth. Also when a Man Loves a Smizma. Now Smizma is the love partner of Kiff's Race of Alien. Yes, and I mentioned Smiths Mars later on when the announcer says ladies and Gentlemen's and smiz Mars. They absolutely we get quiz blog, quiz blog, and alien movie. We get Galaxy Wars, a historical documentary that one which I actually point out Planet of the Clams, which book says, and all my circuits the movie. So yeah, what's my first question for you is where was hermis on holiday too? Oh man, Oh no, no, tell me the spleef Nebula. Spleef Nebula. That's right and very appropriate it would appear. Um. What is the name of miss Universe? Ah Man, I should know this, um because we had just had an episode with the two Benders. Um. She's mentioned in the opening credits of the film. Now what is it? Her name is Gladys Lennox Gladdus. That's right. I do have in my notes and I just could not be bothered looking for it. What does Bender order at the movies? Oh? Gets a popcorn with extra motor oil and just a large soad large diet malt liquor? Did liquor your next question? My next question is you mentioned Robomania before? What number Robomania? Is it as twenty seven? Yeah? Correct? And my final question is how much does Bender away? According to the ring announcer, Oh oh, I know how much destructor? Because I was going to ask you that question, but Bender, I didn't put it down four hundred pounds, it's five hundred and twenty five is destructor? Destructor? Is that eighty ton? He was four hundred four hundred tons Jesus Christ got any more questions for me before we get into our review? What were the names of the students knocked out by Leila? I've got it my notes. Should I look now? Look? I can't bother looking? What is it? Bruce is one of them? Bruce? No? No, Bill is one of them? Keith is the other one? Keith. Yes, you combine those two when you come up with brief is not like Bruce? If you want to, I see where your mind's at. Yeah. Yeah, let's run with that. Let's run with it, all right, let's go. Production Code to a CVS You Were eight, written by Lewis Morton, directed by Ron Hugart. It guest starred Rich Little as himself playing who he played? Howard go sell he did? And who I mean? Obviously Rich Little known for impersonality people and Kruss Leatherman playing mister movie Phone. Now, wherever you hear movie phone, do you just imagine Cramer going Hello, welcome to a movie phone. That's the only thing I remember that is like what I've scifer. That's one of the things that just always stands out to me. Hello, and welcome to the movie phone. That's one of those stupidest fucking storylines. But it's just so memorable. I just love it. It's so simple, So because we'd all love to have done that, don't you reckon? But just that whole why would you just tell me? Yeah, so funny, isn't it. Why did you just tell me which movie you like? It's a it's a perfect I know it's not a Si Faur podcast. You can check out Talking Cifer, but that's just the perfect representation of when a planners goes wrong with poor planning. So the opening caption for the episode was nominated for three Glemmys and the opening cartoon was Hollywood Capers, which was released in nineteen thirty five. The episode kicks off with the Professor and he's saying how he's taught the toaster to feel love. Do you have you ever once in your life, obviously, when you're a child, thought like, for example, a Toy Story member when Toy Story first came out, and thought, they do these things have feelings? Does any does any object in this world? I would have a feeling? Have you ever thought there's an object out there where you gone a little teddy when you were a kid and gone, I know it's just a teddy, but just in case, I'm going to make sure that he sits under bed, not on the floor. Oh yeah, absolutely, when I was a kid, certainly, I mean and even to this day, you know, I think about them, my you know, little toy dog Sam, who was my you know, constant sleeping companion when I was a little, a little tacker. You know, I've no idea where Sam is now. He's probably you know, been eaten to bits by his silver fishing and moths and whatever. He was. He was a wreck when I first had him, but you know, he traveled the world with me and you know, saw me through some tough times as a youngster. And I don't know when, you know, I got older and he was you know, he just went his own way or whatever happened. I've no idea what happened to doing. Oh he's okay. Was his name again? Sam? Just the Sam? Yeah, the Sounder Dog. Yeah. You know, it's a sweet little pal to have, even though he was, you know, just a fabric and stuffing, but you know you would mbue it with love, and you know that love's got to go somewhere. Do you have a photo with Sam the Dog? I probably do. There may be one around somewhere. But you know, he was a mess when I got him. I don't know if he'd been through members of my family before he ended up with me. I mean, my sister Margot still has one of her teddy bears, yeah, that she had when she was a kid, and she's you know, got him on a shelf at her lovely house down the coast. And I always gonna smile when I say they it's like, oh yeah, I remember that from when we were growing up. It's just like a little not of appreciation for it. You got me through tough times. I know you're just a fucking object. You know, you're just fabric, but you hult me through some shit. You deserve to be on that shelf. Yeah, exactly. You aren't going to the mid sir. Yeah, but it's funny. You know, every once in a while you'll do the whole Marie Condo thing, which even Marie Condo doesn't do anymore, where you know, you get rid of stuff that doesn't quite spark joy. But before you do handy, before you you know, you throw it in the in the bin or in the bag or whatever. Thanks a lot, man. You were a good shirt, you know. Yeah, yeah, when when you fit when I you fit into you pretty well, I look pretty good inside you. Well hang on, yes, you were good on me all that kind of stuff. Thank you for that. I appreciate it. Now, off your go, you know, go have a start a new life of someone that's going to appreciate you, thank you for your service. That's it. Homies returns from his vacation with the brain slug on. Everyone just starts act normal, you know, don't don't, don't, don't acknowledge it, and start using garlic shampoo so it doesn't go any So garlic apparently is what they don't like. I love my man. They they ditch him and go to the movies. So they arrive at the lows and plex. Right now, this is a mathematic thing, I'm assuming. Yeah, he gets explained a very long winded way on the infosphere. Now the movie did. His name is lows alpha alp nubll plex, including the alpha alf null mathematic symbol. It's all lost on me. For all you maths nerds out there, I'm all, you're just going ha ha. Apparently it all translates to apparently lows infiniplex, like it's it's like in the name for infinity or something. I was thinking that it had to be you know, some monstrously like Google style number. Cool, let's see this one. Nah, I'm not in the mood for a historical documentary. I've heard good things about quiz blog. Quiz blog. Ghak I hate subtitles. Alien films are so pretentious, follows Shallows. How about a film we can all enjoy. Planet of the Clams. It's about an upside down world where lobsters slaves to clam Who invited you? Let's just see all my circuits the movie good point band so fright orders a super small slum because it's only a little bit cheaper. I love the way that the cinema. I want to hate it, but it's a great marketing, great business sense. You get the movies right. And you're not one for popcorn of the movies, I know that, but you know we always get popcorn, A small popcorn eight dollars or a large for ten. Why would you ever order a small? You might as well go large every time, An't you in the option? They don't give you the option to buy a small, but a small as five dollars, you'd buy the fucking small. But it's like, well I was in extra two dollars miles, We'll go to large. They fucking clear that popcorn out so fast. Yeah, it's genius. It's genius the way they do it. And making an extra two bucks on top. Yeah, they're doing all right. They know what time it is. There is a hack for the for the combos at Village Cinema. I won't get into it now. If you ever want to note, just contact me on Facebook and I'll tell you. But it's a way of saving like eight dollars by getting the same shit. It's like a couple's combo, and then like you can it's like there's a certain combo where you can add shit too for like two dollars extra, and it works out to be like eight dollars cheaper than like the couple's combo. So like you better for get like this like one popcorn and one drink combo and then add like a drink and an ice cream whatever it is, because it works out to be cheaper than what a couple's combo is. But you get the same shit. Did you work this out yourself? You know you're going were you doing that? Zach galifanarkas thing? Where all there standing at this? But I'm just like you walk in there as a couple when you see the couple's combo, it's like, oh, the couple's combo, we get the sounds love baby, and then meanwhile they're just getting extra eight bucks out of here for doing absolutely nothing, which on this thing I love. I appreciate it, every bit of it. That's the person. Someone's getting fucked when you do the couple's combo and it's not the couple, Oh it is the couple. So but Fry, he gets the super small, super small slum bender, orders his food. It's time for the movie and down in front and this gleg Na's human Ryans presents this week and you never I wish they still did this shit at the movies. Well the news real, Yeah, I love him. They're talking about like a boy and his dog, like way to go scruffee. But yeah, Fry mocksham Mystery Science, here to do his timeue that to be quiet. I've got the here. Guy would have adored this moment. Guy did adore that moment. We've got the new New York Mayor, Maycy Randall Poop and Meyer. He's opened up a new tube blind to alleviate the rush hour, but actually everyone's using that twoe blind now and cause chaos. We get the Miss Universe Gladys Lenox from the Paramesium homeworld. So we didn't get a name in um in a Lesser of two Evils, but we've got her name here, and she's entertaining the troops as they attempt to wipe out the human race. Go get him Buys, that's the one I'm thinking of. Yeah, go get him Buyas and the mass unit has destroyed. Oh, we do get gorgeous gonks. This is where we get gorgeous gonks in this LaPier. And he tried to melt him. He don't have the name for the melting accountant what it was, but that's the same move that he attempts to use on Bender in a few moments, we're melting him with the lasers. But initially he of course, Bender is the pro wrestling fan in this in this show, um just yeah, but yeah it Bender says he go mass units. Clearly he's a fan. Then we get the two robots arriving in front. One seems like a mild mand a young gentleman, and he's got his partner, who Bender reflows to his flabby even though that's just as the factory made her. Benders just being a horrible person here, Isn't he prettyish even my Bender standards? Absolutely? Yeah, I mean, but still it's never it's never great when you're at the cinema and you've got someone just big in front of you, or at any event, really, you know, the lovely the reason I went to went to Day on the Green a couple of a couple of weeks ago. I guess he's Sting, who was very very good. Indeed, did he come down from the rafters. So that's a check the on your wrestling fans, I'll understand, god appropriate for this episode. I well played, yes, but I was very conscious of, like, you know, we got there, you know, other people are already there was like, oh, you know, if I sit in front of this person, that probably made themselves very comfortable. Here, I am just sort of taking up space. Yeah, there's nothing worse than that. But no, Luckily the people behind me went down in front, so it was all right. We all got to enjoy Sting. Don't you love how often that us as a society used to term there's nothing worse than that one. There's definitely something worse than that. Oh, certainly, It's like when I said, oh God, what a nightmare, It's like, that's barely a bad dream. It's nothing wrong with that. You know. He turned the tap on and the water sprays over nothing worse than that. It's like, I can think of thirty thousand of these words in that right now if you're speaking of people being tall in front. And I remember why I took Alie to see him up at Christmas Carol with a live orchestra back late December last year, before Christmas in Melbourne. We sat down and this be tall dude sat down right in front of Elliott's chair and I was like, fucking now. He's like, daddy, I can't see. You can't see, And of course Ali can't stand up to watch because then you're going to stop the person behind him scene. I said, oh, mate, would you mind stopping with your wife so so um my son can see? And he goes, nah, I really don't want to, mate. I say, like, come, he said, he's only four. Can can you move? And he goes, you brought the four year old, not me? I think that's what he said to me, right to the Muppet Christmas Carol. Yeah, yeah, you brought the four year old, not me. I'm like, mate, you are you're a man, clearly, like you know you're here with your partner. I'm assuming, but just fucking swap seats with him so Ali can see, I give a fuck if I can't see, maybe a million times, but Elliott. I ended up swopping seats of Elliott so he could see because this motherfucker wouldn't move because I brought the four year old, not him for an asshole? Yeah, what an asshole? Jesus? Yeah no, But anyway, it doesn't matter. All. They had a great time, but Ben, it's just being an absolute dick to this artist person. I liked the rated M fourteen not Suitable for Aliens from Planet M fourteen by Aliens Alien from M fourteen. The movie then starts. Now did you see the credits here? I thought you would have liked this gig I did. Yeah, I mean were the various writing units and directing units, and of course Joe as to house one of the biggest hacks in Hollywood. Hacks you reckon hack? Oh god? Yeah? I mean did he even my basic instinct? Yeah? That's that's the script is the worst thing about that. So everyone just remembers it for Sharon Stone. Every remembers that Sharon Stone. It was very well directed by a man, Paul Verhoven, who made Start JEP Droopers and all that. Yeah, but no, Paul Verhovens. Sorry, Joe has an absolute hack master. He sort of. He rewrote the same story for at least three different movies. His dialogue is shit. I mean, you write the three three big ones. You wrote show Girls, he wrote Basic Instin What was the other one? You vote? Well? He wrote Jade, which is kind of like the one. I think he wrote Flashdance back in the day. Was it Flashdance? Let's have a look, Let's see what he's written. He made a lot of money. I mean Basic Instincts sold. The script sold for a shit tone of money. It was flashed Flashdance was the other one? Yea jacket Edge and Flashdance? Yeah, oh yeah. I heard those movies and I was like, well, the big movies, it must be. He must be at least half decent. I think you'd write a good hook, but yeah, most of most of his movies are absolute garbage. So is the gag here being at this movie is going to be ship pretty much. So I like the two in the credits. Here's obviously a take off a double a seven bea get the robot sort of chumping off screen, and one of him goes in which he jumps off. Well, if that finishes this paperwork. Calculan enterprises Calculan. A fight scene is broken out of the special effects warehouse. Come quickly before a fiery explosion chases someone down a hallway. I have no choice, but if you on calcul On to race to the laser gun battle in his hover Ferrari, press one. If you want calcul On to double check his paperwork, press too enter Now you have pressed too. No I didn't. I'm almost positive you did. I cannot wait for the day they've already doing this on Netflix. I look forward to the day we can go to the movies and do this and pick and like it's a because when it's to shoot your own adventure, when it's just you, you can choose you own invention, like you know what you're gonna be choosing. But when you're in a cinema, it's like, oh, man, come on, every come on, everybody, let's let's team up. Let's make sure we get the right heads up, because the thing is, you put your vote in, but you still don't know what you're going to get. What have they done it on on Netflix? And now they did it on a Black Mirror episode where it's like, no, you go this way or now you can do this. I think they've done it on one or two other things, but I can't remember what as a kids show. So basically at thutha Elliott watch it was a bad boss baby thing and there was a dressic park. What's it called. It's a camp cretaceous one, yeah, camp cretaceous, yes, yeah, and they're fine, they're enjoyable. That's Aliot was so sad that when he pushed him on button he got eaten while this dinosaur. He was like, you're so sad. It was like, oh, there's there's a button there though clearly because they know it's for kids that you can go just restart, restart from that moment you have to go back to the start. It's just it's like, and this time, choose the right one. Aliot chooses the same one, you idiot. Um. Yeah, so there's the movie. They rig it basically, you know, he chooses one thing. I mean, how could you not want to go see a lazy gun battle in a hover ferrari? How do you want to see Colclan do that? They messed up bend. They keep kicking the chair in front of him and boredom. I believe you're inadvertently kicking my seat, so polite. The mask Unit isn't he is? Isn't he? But yeah, I guess it's the mask unit you can afford to be Yeah, Bender mocks him. Yes, that is the gist of what I said, and he then throws popcorn at him, So he challenges him to fisty cuffs even like the what he challenges him to is just so like we'll see proper, and he tries the melting move on Bender and obviously realized is a huge robot. And then the woman's yells out, let's all go to the lobby, which, yes, mister Ben, that's actually the line from the from the ad, right, let's all go to the I first heard that on The Simpsons when mister Burns did it. Likewise, I think when he's learning, when he's trying to get the I think it was Burns air that episode when he first did that. But but just noticed the professor didn't move. So when everyone's running away, he just sits there. And then we get the mask unit. He's going to open up a file of whoop ass, I'm Bender as opposed to we can He slips on the oil, so no, all all works out In the end full circle Bender ordered the oil. That's what causes the mask Unit to slip. He passes out legally realizes the mask unit. Everyone's really impressed their girlfriend. What a hussy she's just got. You're just calling your fat slob before. Now you're hugging in all over him. The commissioner of the Ultimate Robot Fighting Championship or whatever it's called company arrives because he's a kind of stew jokes you pick fights theaters and you are the biggest one. You should see me at funerals. I've got here top not to work by Demagio this episode. Have you got any terrible funeral stories aside for going to some as the most in fact that it's a funeral, have you ever been like an awkward moment or anything like that. I told a story for the first time, not longer. I'm not I don't think I'm going to share it here. This is um. I told it under very sort of cone of silent circumstances. But yeah, there was something that happened after my dad's funeral. I don't know, we'll see how we go, but that's what I'm keeping in the back pocket for somewhere down the line. Is it a funny or is it a shocking story? It's not really shocking, it's it's kind of blackly funny. Okay. Yes. I remember once being in a funeral and the woman was it was the wife the person who had passed. As she's doing her talk, her mulogy, and all of a sudden, she just drops a ripper fart and everyone in a like I don't know whether to laugh and cry or just want do we do? And what you can? You sort of hear a couple of like sort of chill and she went, that's a stinker, and everyone just started laughing, you know, so it was like, don't pretend it was fighting over the microphone basically, so everyone heard it. So it's like you mightn't just run with it. It's just a ripper fart. And she went, well, that's a stinker, and everyone laughed. I was just like oh, and everyone was sort of like happier after that. You know, it's good. Sometimes a funeral needs that kind of thing. I mean, you know what people always say. I know it sounds weird to say that, but you know, I was saying, oh, you know, celebrate my life rather than more my death. It's like, well, you know, someone just let one go in the middle of your funeral. You probably like that's good. I mean it's something that you know, my funeral will be remembered. And I think Guy would have liked that if someone let, you know, let one rip during his funeral, Yeah, I would actually good on you. So better agrees to become an ultimate robot fighter and professor. They don't make movies like this anymore. Bender is now super excited. He's going to float like a flat button stinging like an automatic stinging machine. But everyone explains to him, mate, you know what this is. It's pretty brutal. So the gag is that no one knows that it's fake. Yeah, when did wrestling when it was a widely known that it was fake, Because in the eighties people still brought into it. I think it was like during the nineties where everyone just went wait a minute, Like it's like when once the wrestling told you it was fake, then it was just like, okay, it's fair game. But I feel like even when I was growing up, I was still trying to sort of blur that line they weren't openly saying. And because you've heard stories of wrestlers who would beat the ship out of people who would question them on it. Like there's a there's a really um the iconic interview where it's the guy Munch from from Lauren Order, right. They that plays much the Big Years, the Glasses, the late the late Richard Belzer. Yes, he died not long ago. Yeah, exactly a couple of weeks ago. Yeah, he had a talk show, I believe once and he had Hulk Hogan and he was just like sort of, you know, not saying it's fake, but sort of like laughing, Oh yeah, you know, you guys really go in there and all of the stuff, and he goes, show me a headlock. So Hulk Hogan just gave him a head like a headlock a sleeper and just put into sleep slow stage. Yeah. Yeah, it's like, you can't deserve the mate, you know, we gotta be talking smack about someone's word, you know, to their face. Man, Hulk Hogan, exactly, he's gonna running wild on you, mate, and he certainly did. And Hulkogan got a lot of trouble for that for obvious reasons. But um, yeah, that's just the iconic moment in television history. That one not long ago. One of my social media budd he's found a picture of Hulk Hogan from some action movie made in you know, the late eighties or the early nners and whatever. And he's got like a hairpiece. Song. You know, he doesn't have his usual sort of weird Hulk Hogan hair like. Yeah, well that's you know, it's like a flattop kind of wig, like you should have worn that all the time. Yeah, yeah, I mean, you know, he's got his big mustache, but he's got you know, that sort of short back insides. We got a link that looks kind of good dude exam for everybody, not for me. But I don't know. I could have given the Hulks for a whole new, whole new direction. But the thing is, though that he just was Hulk Hogan, you know, Terry Balaz his real name. But like, yes, his image was so iconic that you can't really change the Hulk Hogan image. That's true. I think. Ye, the weird ass haircut that he's gotten, the scullet so is Yeah, I guess part of the whole Cogan mystique. Yeah. And plus, you know, I just love the fact that when he turned into a bad guy in WCW in the nineties, he just painted he had a black beard, but still the white hair and the white mustaches. Fucking the grain. It's like Evil Hougan has a black beard, but baby face Hogan's clean shaven. But anyway, so Benner says he doesn't want to do it, he's scares. Says, you must do it, you know, And she tells the story of when she was a child again with the Orphanarian. Let me tell you a story from my childhood again the Orphanarium. When I was growing up at the Orphanarium, I got picked on a lot. My only outlet was our turn kung fu. Yeah, accident, Beau Keith, you will go to junior championships. Bu congratulate Keith when he regains consciousness. But master Fnog, I can beat these dorks with one eye closed. Perhaps, but there is more to winning than beating your opponent. You lack the weird of a warrior. What do you mean watch this? Ye ha ha ha. No girl has the weird of a warrior. You have the weird of a housewife or at base, the school marm. That's it. I'll take you on right now, very well, but you see, I have the weird of the warrior. Therefore the battery is already OVA the winner. Me ha, remotch you lose again, honey enough I thought so Finog which is an absolute dish bag, and he really was, like he actually was the perfect heel for this perfect villain for this episode. She's an absolute classic wrestling manager heel. Oh yeah, I mean can't recognize just the master fighter that's in front of him and instead, you know, giving it up a bill and Keith Will just been kicked the shit kicked out of him. And he says that leither at this point that she has the will of a housewife or at best the school momia, two types of characters that Katie Seagal has both played on various shows. Now I'm not I couldn't find the school mom one right, but I've definitely obviously the housewife is Peggy, yes naturalists. I couldn't find who the school mom character was that she played, but apparently that was a reference to m to characters she had previously played on other shows. One about listens. I'm sure we'll let us know about that one, but please do yes, very very good, better agrees to do so to join the league so he can get back, she can get back at U, mister Fonogg, And it's a montage of him training. How's your training going, by the way, or so it was the four days of running now, yep, gonna be five once we're done with this. Absolutely, Yeah, you're gonna do my run as well, doing some push ups, doing some running. It's a bit of a shuffle around the block. But I'll just keep running that circuit until i can run it a bit faster, and then I'll have another another block to it, and yeah, before you know it, I'll be running marathons. Doesn't matter how fast, it's just you move it. That's all that matter, is correct. Correct? That's now for a time for robot Mania twenty seven. Leather was robbing some rust rusta Liam I think it is. It's glass protected enamel stops the rust onto bender and introduction here the ladies and gentlemen smiz Mars, which I said is a love partner of the amphibios and culture, which is who Kiff is. So Kiff actually goes on to to marry Amy. By the way, we should have mentioned that last week's podcast. We're talking about Amy and Frist relationships, so she obviously falls in love with Kiff. But Bender here from Mums, from Mum's shot wherever it's course America's heartland, Mexico. And I love this as a wrestling fan that Clearcutter was from and made of parts unknown. There's always that one wrestler who's from parts known. It's just like the phrases. So hermis tries to give Fry the brain slug here, and I mean, it's just not going to happen. Then we get Bender Gant hit with the axe in the back and drilled through the face and I'm like, yeah, he's axhole. Yeah. So Bender doesn't know it's fake at this point of what's going on here, but the click Cutter here explodes and he knows. When Bender is putting his arm back on, it's a like a shotgun sound, the sound that they use from The Simpsons. I don't know why they have missed it, but yes, Bender is the winner. He has defeated the click Cutter, even though he doesn't really know how he did it. He's backstage now, he's just he's so happy. Yeah, I took a life nice work out there, kid, you know, I think he might be dead. I took a life boss. Yeah, dude, Hey he's that dad. What's up with that watch? It didn't read the pamphlet Ultimate Robot Fighting is a scam, kid, It's rigged. It's a secret, so I'll keep it under your head. But the most popular robot always wins. You mean I'm not a great fighter. I just won because I'm popular, Bengal, I'm popular. In fact, you're more than popular. You're pure lowest common denominator. Go Bender, Go Bender go. Bender. Still is still an up shot for still the upside for a Bender. You know, he's the lowest common denominator according to the according the Boss, so he's now known as Bender the offender. He's just next con trying to get straight and get his kids back. I'm like, that's so awesome. The guy that the bend of three sixteen shirt in the crowd loving it. He's taking on. Of course, he's taking a billionaire bots, you know, the complete with his handsful of money. Yes, they're just not saying Bender puts the very poor barrel over him. So awesome. Then the foreigner, which is just that was my favorite. I'm not from here. I've got my own customs, look at my crazy passport and then the chainsmoker as you're saying, heading straight to your favorite restaurant. So great. You could have enough fucking montage like twice as long as this. I would have loved every one of them. Oh god, yeah, but just those three were perfect, the foreigner in particular so perfect. Yeah. Leader is now waiting for him. You know you're supposed to be training. This was always used in Fox eight commercials for Futurrauma. You know, I'm also an ultimate robot lover Leader though, so Leader character in this she's basically she's lutching herself onto Bender's career here because she wants to get back at Fornog. But it's Fornog. But she doesn't know FOG's part of the other. She's just she's just working out some of her own issues. Yeah, yeah, what do you mean we? I mean us? So Bender says he doesn't need her because obviously it's fake and he hasn't told her it's fake yet. She can't work out how are you always winning? You know? And he doesn't need anybody, of course, he needs Flusies though. Well. Obviously my favorite line of the episode, We're gonna do with a couple of fluses in our life from time to time. And he walks off from the light up dollar sign on the back of his coat. We're now at the ultimate robot fighting HQ and see the son of the front hiring giant. He'll billy Robot Bender. Your popularity is slipping. Sales of your Bender brand French Mill bathsols are down twenty percent. Those morons, I said, teaberry nut sandal Wood. Damn it. Bender. If you can't move sander Wood, you don't belong in this league. That's why you're gonna lose next week's title match. But the crowd loves me, perhaps, but let's see how they feel about your new persona, the gender Bender. You will be the most unpopular robot fight us in sergeant Feces process of oh yeah, well what if I don't let the new guy win, Dan, he'll just have to beat you the old fashioned way to death. Melessa sending the new kid. I am destructor see it the fight he threatens your sexuality? Yeah, not exactly progressive when it comes to gender issues. This particular episode of your drama bed what can you do? They introduced destructor push the button door opens. He just burst through the wall. Anyway wall see you at the fight, and Bender then tells everybody the story word for word and say way he said it. And he explains to everybody how robot the robot fighting his fake. They couldn't believe it, you know, I thought it was real like pro wrestling, not fixed like boxing boxing. Leather then refuses to help. You know, well, if you didn't want my help when you didn't need it, then why would I give it to you when you do What the hell are you talking about? I don't know, but I'm still not going to help. Like she's so confused, she's just so caught up in her own issues, like you were saying. And then she turns on the TV and she sees the ad for gender Bender, like he's saying, he threatens your sexuality. I love it. Leaning laying on the bed with his legs crossed on the on the telephone and master for noogue. I've got here's the manager. But he's not really the manager. He's just I guess you could say, like the trainer. I guess he's going to be called there like the corner and or, but he's not. He's not even that though, because he never he's never seen him, he's underneath the ring. Yes, yeah, them, Yeah, it feels more like trainer than than manager though it does. But the thing is when you look at this logically, which is stupid, I know, but it's like, so, who was operating Destructor when he was there with mister Fogg on the TV and stuff like that? Who was operating Destructor when he burst through the wall? Bloody logic, ruining our enjoyment of these episodes. It doesn't matter. But Leither says she's gonna teach better to fight like a girl. So he says, I go put on my two too. It's now time for the championship bout where there will be no gambling. The destructor he's use in battle as a war crime, and Benderson his two too. Did you notice there was an animation error here? Fries got the towel around his neck, but it's black, not white. You've got the egalize you do old egalized Dando here, But rich Little was here as Howard Cassell and George Foreman. I didn't think George Foreman really added much to this, No, no, I mean very enthusiastic. Absolutely. I mean he threw himself into the into the role with Gusto. But but he didn't didn't play himself though, because he wasn't on the page, was he George George Foreman wasn't in the guest appearances. George Foreman performance was full of gus stars George Foreman. So George Foreman's head unless I just forgot to put him on there. It was voiced by John de Bacio, didn't you. Rod didn't add a great deal. I mean, the only thing he really had was just the disgusting spectacle of drinking the fat from the George Foreman girl. Yeah, having a George Foreman girl. And I'm just like, well, I'm never gonna be fat ever again. I'm gonna eat all the fried chicken I want. And we weren't good at my hips. This is rich little imitating Howard Cowseell hair red ring sided with George Foreman, George A word and edgewise. This could be the most one sided fight since nineteen seventy three, when Ali faced an eighty foot Tom mechanical Joe Frazer. My memories now what it used to be. But I think the entire earth was destroyed. Interesting if true. The Vega SARTs tonight standard an unpresent. I did one thousand to zero a bet of zero dollars on Bender pays one thousand dollar as if he wins, still very field takers. Isn't that not a smart bet? Later then says, you know, don't worry, just kick his head off, kick off the structor's head, and Better says, all right, nope, I'm gonna do that, And whilst he's practicing his kicking, he kicks off the brain slug from her Meason and puts it back on his head. Amy's. Meanwhile, he gives Professor the program. I feel a Professor as a character. They haven't forgotten him, but he hasn't really have been given much to do lately. He's more for the odd punchline to do with how decrepit he is. Yeah, because when you think, what he's not really driving stories or anything like that. Let's go to season two. So I think the last one he did was like Mars University? Was that season one? Was that season two? So he wasn't that feels like season one? So if we go back radio, you put your head on my shoulders. Less of two evils. He kind of rolling that gave him the gag, the Zoibeck episode Christmas Story. It's just kind of it's just kind of a punchline, now, isn't he years it's you know, almost zoid burgish. Yeah, that's what he's coming down to. Yeah, it's just the old the silly old professor. Now, I always good episode is going forward, but up to this point anyway. So then we got the front Row, got zap Kiff calculated Nixon and yeah, the alien from the episode five or six or what it was from there was my Three Sons episode The King the Emperor from that episode on the front row booing. I just love that they're so they've brought into it because he appeals to the laws coming dominated you know, boo, get that hippie off the head Dixon. Just the outrage. That's the thing about wrestling. Knows go to a live event and everyone's just buying into it because they everyone knows it's not real. But that's the fun of it. You Yeah, it's pantomime. You know, you're just you're playing along. Everyone else is playing along as well. It's okay to act like a dickhead, you know, no one, no one's going to judge you for it because we're all just wrestling fans. Just play along, don't be don't be that guy that he goes to a fucking ghost tour and goes you know, there's no such thing as ghosts, Like we fucking know it's not real. Why did you come forward? You don't like it? Just let us buy in to the Yeah, buy into the fantasy for a little while. So we meet again, most amusing girl who acts like fighters, training fighter who acts like girl. Keep laughing, Fnog, He's just never ending, mister Fogg. Terrible, terrible creature, is it, mister master Probably yeah, Master Phenog. I'm just I've just been writing, mister in my notes, Master Phenog, and Destructor A Midley starts killing ban Duck, just beating the shit out of him. And this is where foreman It drinks the fat out of his mouth. Fry, it's revealed he has wearing the brain slug, which was a good reveal. I'll give it that. He's like throwing the towel for love of god, Fry, why aren't you helping me? And because the only way to throw in the towel according to the story, So he can't because the brain slug. So they sort of write that little um, what would you call it? Not a plothole? But it's just like, well, why did you just end the fight while he can't. Then we get the really great slow mo which is a takeoff of which movie, mister Davis, I'll leave it for you of Raging Bull starring Robert Nero and former heavyweight champion Jake LaMotta, one of the greatest movies of all time, which is where we get Raging Bender from. Correct, Except when I was a kid, whenever I saw a raging Bender, I was frais, my little dirty mone went to raging Boner. You're only human. I'm only human. But now, when Bender's getting beaten up, he yells at mummy. And that's the thing you see a lot like when people and guys, grown men feel like they're about to meet their maker, they yell for mummy. Yeah. Yeah, whether you're on Normandy Beach or in the wrestling ring, it's usually your mum. You're calling for Leela. She notices a little radar didition, What's what's that? What's going on here? And Benders asking why won't anyone help him? She looks under, she sees under the ring and he is basically, what's those suits called where it's emotion emotion capture, I think kind of yeah yeah, motion capture, yeah yeah, and she um, she starts fighting hile you're an excellent student. Too bad, I was a lousy teacher. And they're having their big fight, big battle, and Bender says, this is where our destructor starts moving backwards, and Benders like, what's endering time? Take off of Hulk. It's clobbering time, clab and talking time. Yeah, yeah, no, the thing from the Fantastic the Thing, Yes, the Fantastic four, not the Fantastic four. Jesus Christ, I'm messing up my my MCUs. Yes, but yes, So they're having a big fight and Lela realized that she can grab the hand of him slam it down into his own head, which I thought was a good twist. It was. It proves that Leela was, you know, just a smart fighter, yes, and which unfortunately results in Bender losing anyway, gets squashed by the structor. Everyone everyone wins in the end, except for Bender, who gets flattened out. But he get he does, but at least he does get a ten percent off whenever he goes to what's the bed bath and beyond that is correct, and you know Leally gets to feel good about herself because I beat up somebody who hurt my feelings in high school. Yes, and Friday. No one has the brain's lug either, because it's staffed to death. Now this is a reference to an episode going forward that gets mentioned an episode going for it. Apparently he has the delta brain wave. So the delta brain wave is something that people have who weren't from the future. So that's why it wasn't able to get any sustenance from his brain. Would you find out in a future episode why that is the case. But that's why he has a different brain wave to herb he starts, that's why the brain slug as they were to feast on him and not on fright, that is the future of future rama. M So they roll up bender, I mean, and with rich Little and George Foreman doing this a bit that kind of lost to me, so said, he says things funny, that's the gag, But it wasn't really much of an ending. I felt the ending was for an episode that was so over the top and you know, flamboyant with wrestling and things like that was a kind of flat ending for me, It's kind of petered out, didn't it. Yeah, it didn't really end with a bang, just sort of a whimper. Yeah, anyway, but that aside. As a wrestling fan, I've always loved this episode. I think they did a beautiful mass to the pro wrestling industry of this. They can tell they definitely some of them were wrestling fans. Whoever put this episode together, because just a little details that really really made up for the what it lacked.
