<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, welcome to Games Mornings with Me Jeff Greb,
<v Speaker 1>your host from giant bomb dot com.
<v Speaker 2>Thank you for tuning in.
<v Speaker 1>In this episode, we're gonna be talking about the biggest
<v Speaker 1>game release of the year, bringing Steam and the Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>E Shop to their knees and PlayStation fans finally getting
<v Speaker 1>news about that PS five game they've all been waiting for.
<v Speaker 1>It's gonna be a good one because we have Janechoa
<v Speaker 1>on the show, which.
<v Speaker 2>Is brought to you by ms I. Jan, How are
<v Speaker 2>you doing?
<v Speaker 3>I'm doing great. I think I could actually use a
<v Speaker 3>new Mobo.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, me too.
<v Speaker 1>Actually, I frequently am getting frustrated with this system.
<v Speaker 2>It's time to move on, Time to move on and up. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>how's it going you?
<v Speaker 3>Uh?
<v Speaker 1>Did you try to get Silk Song this morning? I've
<v Speaker 1>not had time to do so myself.
<v Speaker 3>I already saw everyone talking about and you know, this
<v Speaker 3>is gonna be our first news story. I already saw
<v Speaker 3>everyone talking about the difficulties and trying to get it
<v Speaker 3>on the E Shop, and then I thought like, oh,
<v Speaker 3>maybe Steam, And then I saw just as many folks
<v Speaker 3>complaining about not being able to get out on Steam.
<v Speaker 3>So I think I'm gonna do the waiting game grub.
<v Speaker 3>I think I'm gonna wait for the dust to settle.
<v Speaker 3>I hope this doesn't affect the Silk Song along at all. No,
<v Speaker 3>I think we should be fine because I feel like
<v Speaker 3>that would destroy Mike Minatti because now I think we
<v Speaker 3>could say that not only did the game not exist
<v Speaker 3>when he played it, but maybe it still doesn't exist.
<v Speaker 2>Maybe.
<v Speaker 1>So I'm gonna turn myself up, jan because I think
<v Speaker 1>people are saying that you're louder than me. Let me
<v Speaker 1>know if that just ruined everything, but my mic was
<v Speaker 1>turned way down. All right, sounds good. You know what,
<v Speaker 1>we should get into this show. We're starting a little
<v Speaker 1>bit late and people want to get the Silk Song,
<v Speaker 1>so let's get the news out of the way and
<v Speaker 1>explain who we are and what we do here.

<v Speaker 1>the show later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube.
<v Speaker 2>Hello YouTube.
<v Speaker 1>All right, we have a lot to get into, so
<v Speaker 1>let's start the Morning Mess with Silksong release briefly takes
<v Speaker 1>down Steam and Nintendo e Shop. This is from Michael
<v Speaker 1>mcworder at Polygon. It's not just you. Steam and the
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo e Shop are having major issues on third day morning,
<v Speaker 1>the day of the long awaited launch of Hollow Night Silksong.
<v Speaker 1>That may be due to a mass influx of traffic
<v Speaker 1>as a result of Team Cherry's release. Steam is up
<v Speaker 1>and down as of around ten am Eastern, when Silksong
<v Speaker 1>was scheduled to launch on Windows PC, I was continuing
<v Speaker 1>to have problems with Steam this morning, So yeah, that
<v Speaker 1>is ongoing. When trying to load the Steam website or
<v Speaker 1>desktop application, visitors may see the air message something went wrong.
<v Speaker 1>We were unable to service your request. Please try again later.
<v Speaker 1>But Valve appears to be quickly addressing the issue. The
<v Speaker 1>Steam website occasionally loads just fine. Polygon has reached out
<v Speaker 1>to Valve for comment, and we'll update the story when
<v Speaker 1>the company responds. Visitors to the Nintendo e Shop are
<v Speaker 1>experiencing similar issues. Trying to load the Hollow Night's Silksong
<v Speaker 1>page on the e Shop is displaying airs as well.
<v Speaker 1>Customers may see the warning air code blah blah blah,
<v Speaker 1>A bunch of numbers couldn't connect to the server. The
<v Speaker 1>network may be busy, or there may be a problem
<v Speaker 1>with the server. Please try again later. You know that
<v Speaker 1>this does still occasionally happen, maybe not to this extent recently,
<v Speaker 1>but we knew this game was going to be massive,
<v Speaker 1>and everyone is rushing there like the release time was
<v Speaker 1>published earlier this week Jans, so people knew exactly when
<v Speaker 1>to show up, and everyone has shown up at that time.
<v Speaker 2>I think that was kind of that's kind of doing
<v Speaker 2>a number here on these servers, But.
<v Speaker 1>A little surprise that the most anticipated game of the year,
<v Speaker 1>it has kind of come to a head now and
<v Speaker 1>everyone's trying to get at the same time.
<v Speaker 2>Right.
<v Speaker 3>I feel terrible for anyone that may have taken the
<v Speaker 3>day off today, Yeah, sure to devote their whole day
<v Speaker 3>to go play Silk Song. And maybe they weren't one
<v Speaker 3>of the lucky few that were able to sneak in
<v Speaker 3>before the e shop or Steam or whatever other game
<v Speaker 3>storefront shut down or got broken. But grub I love this.
<v Speaker 3>I love that an indie game can bring these gigantic
<v Speaker 3>E shop stores, Steam and whatever else down to their
<v Speaker 3>knees and showing the power of an in game. And sure,
<v Speaker 3>there is a lot of hype behind this one. There's
<v Speaker 3>a lot of like memes behind this one, and maybe
<v Speaker 3>there's a lot of people that haven't even played the
<v Speaker 3>original Hollow Night, myself included. I really want to check
<v Speaker 3>this out because of all of that hype that has
<v Speaker 3>been generating over the last couple of years that they
<v Speaker 3>want to finally see what this is about. But I
<v Speaker 3>love that it's an indie game coming from a super
<v Speaker 3>small team, especially in a year where we've seen so
<v Speaker 3>many Triple A games get canceled projects never see the
<v Speaker 3>light of day. And it's great because this is not
<v Speaker 3>an extraction shooter.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, yeah, this feels like what people claim that they
<v Speaker 1>want and to be proven right, everyone being like, you
<v Speaker 1>should make more games like this, less fewer extraction shooters,
<v Speaker 1>more stuff like Silk Song, and here we are. The
<v Speaker 1>game comes out and it is as much of a
<v Speaker 1>success as people were making it sound like it would be.
<v Speaker 1>And yeah, it continues to remind people there's a massive
<v Speaker 1>audience of people who just want a gamer's game, and
<v Speaker 1>this is gonna likely deliver exactly that. Now, we haven't
<v Speaker 1>had reviews, really even early word of mouth about the
<v Speaker 1>game at all, from previews or anything like that. No
<v Speaker 1>one's really played the game because they did not hand
<v Speaker 1>out early code. They wanted the kickstarter backers to get
<v Speaker 1>at the same time, you know as everyone else, as
<v Speaker 1>early as possible.
<v Speaker 2>So I guess everyone.
<v Speaker 1>Should be getting in their code right now as the
<v Speaker 1>game is available on these stores. It's also on Xbox
<v Speaker 1>Game Pass. I know a lot of people are getting
<v Speaker 1>it on there. We'll talk about that when we do
<v Speaker 1>our whole question from yesterday later on in the show.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, it's like a good sign that, like, you know,
<v Speaker 1>when we talk about all of the reasons that the
<v Speaker 1>future of gaming is a question mark, it's never about
<v Speaker 1>people not.
<v Speaker 2>Wanting to play these video games.
<v Speaker 1>There are so many people who want that, and Silksong
<v Speaker 1>is kind of the poster child for that right now.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, if anything that makes me question the future of
<v Speaker 3>video games, grub, it's the people at the very top
<v Speaker 3>that may just screw up the whole system in entirety
<v Speaker 3>and just try and turn everything into a role block
<v Speaker 3>style extraction shooter yep, without actually trying to make a game, right.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Putting the business models first is kind of I think
<v Speaker 1>what these other larger companies have been guilty of and
<v Speaker 1>kind of like working backwards from this kind of game
<v Speaker 1>prints money. We need to have one of those kinds
<v Speaker 1>of games that has that kind of business model, and
<v Speaker 1>that has not really worked out for any of these
<v Speaker 1>companies really, even the ones that have worked out, Like
<v Speaker 1>going back tennis years over the last decade, like Fortnite worked,
<v Speaker 1>really worked out really well.
<v Speaker 2>Chasing a trend. It chased a gameplay trend.
<v Speaker 1>They're like, let's just go make a battle rayale like
<v Speaker 1>this other battle Rayale, and that that worked, and then
<v Speaker 1>the business model stuff came later, and they've made a
<v Speaker 1>ton of money by figuring out new and innovative ways
<v Speaker 1>to take advantage of this battle Rayale system. I just think,
<v Speaker 1>you know, I guess extraction shooter is a gameplay concept
<v Speaker 1>to a certain extent, but you get the sense that
<v Speaker 1>that was a thing selected in the second step of
<v Speaker 1>we want a live service game. Where do we see,
<v Speaker 1>you know, the blue waters. What's the blue ocean strategy here? Well,
<v Speaker 1>there's not that many extraction shooters compared to Battle Royale.
<v Speaker 1>It feels like that's what happened with all those games.
<v Speaker 1>And in the meantime, people are going to go play
<v Speaker 1>Silk Song instead.
<v Speaker 2>All right.
<v Speaker 1>Marvel's Wolverine will report will reportedly be shown during September's
<v Speaker 1>State of Play. This is Blair Marnw at GameSpot. This
<v Speaker 1>month marks the fourth anniversary of the announcement for Marvel's Wolverine.
<v Speaker 1>Insomniac Games hasn't shared much beyond the game's initial teaser,
<v Speaker 1>but according to a new report, Wolverine will be featured
<v Speaker 1>at Sony's next State of Play event near the end
<v Speaker 1>of September. According to Insider Gaming, a new trailer for
<v Speaker 1>Wolverine has been finished for a potential debut at State
<v Speaker 1>of Play. Sony already had a State of Play this
<v Speaker 1>week for Double seven First Light, and it hasn't yet
<v Speaker 1>announced plans for another one later this month. You know,
<v Speaker 1>Tokyo Games shows happening later this month, they usually have
<v Speaker 1>one before. There a lot of the time, I've heard
<v Speaker 1>that there's one coming. I've also heard jan that Wolverine
<v Speaker 1>could easily be in there, but they do have some
<v Speaker 1>like there's just some timeline concerns. That was like, there's
<v Speaker 1>no reason to assume like it's guaranteed it will be
<v Speaker 1>a lock for the show. Even now with this report,
<v Speaker 1>this finished asset that they likely do have that could
<v Speaker 1>be in a state of play, they could still decide
<v Speaker 1>last minute, be like let's save that for Keeley's Game
<v Speaker 1>Awards later this year, because that game's coming out, you know,
<v Speaker 1>at the earliest in late twenty twenty six. Who knows,
<v Speaker 1>but I think right now it's a distinct possibility that
<v Speaker 1>this Wolverine trailer could be in there. I think the
<v Speaker 1>timeline concerns are that there are a couple of games,
<v Speaker 1>at least one game that comes to mind that was
<v Speaker 1>supposed to come out this year is now coming out
<v Speaker 1>next year, and that's that God of War Metroidvanias style
<v Speaker 1>spinoff game, and so it's like that is one that's like, Okay,
<v Speaker 1>they were probably like, well, we'll talk about that first.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe that kind of becomes the marquee thing in this
<v Speaker 1>state of play, and then everything else can come later.
<v Speaker 1>But I don't know how they're going to want to
<v Speaker 1>position that even that game is coming out next year,
<v Speaker 1>and maybe that, like the state of play is about
<v Speaker 1>setting up this holiday holiday still, so who knows if
<v Speaker 1>that even that game shows up in this state of play.
<v Speaker 1>But going back to Wolverine Jam this, it does feel
<v Speaker 1>like the PlayStation five game that people are like, Okay,
<v Speaker 1>once we get to Wolverine, this PlayStation five that I
<v Speaker 1>spent X amount of dollars on, and maybe that's X
<v Speaker 1>plus one hundred dollars, you know, because it's gone up
<v Speaker 1>in price in the last couple of years, and maybe
<v Speaker 1>I just got it recently, but I've been waiting for Wolverine.
<v Speaker 1>At least that game will make it worth it. Do
<v Speaker 1>you think this game can live up to that hype,
<v Speaker 1>that those expectations that it will be able to hold
<v Speaker 1>up this entire house for Sony In a lot.
<v Speaker 3>Of ways, I feel like there's no possible way that
<v Speaker 3>it can, even if it is a fantastic game, even
<v Speaker 3>if it winds up blowing everyone's minds and expectations, because
<v Speaker 3>of just like the lack of other marquee titles on
<v Speaker 3>the PS five, this whole generation right, like, this isn't
<v Speaker 3>this is the task for one game to carry. This
<v Speaker 3>is a task that should have been a baton pass
<v Speaker 3>over the years of of the PS five being out
<v Speaker 3>and alive. We had Ratchet Klank, we had a God
<v Speaker 3>of War. But after those two titles, and then there's Astrobot,
<v Speaker 3>but then we've just been hit with re release, remaster,
<v Speaker 3>Concord and peases a marathon. That what is there on
<v Speaker 3>the PS five other than just like having a brand
<v Speaker 3>new shiny toy I guess there's also the final Fantasy
<v Speaker 3>seven remake game. But this is I don't think that
<v Speaker 3>Wolverine can save the PS five. And also I don't
<v Speaker 3>necessarily think it needs to be saved, no, because at
<v Speaker 3>this point, if Sony's already talking about having three different
<v Speaker 3>skews for the PS six, I feel like they've already
<v Speaker 3>come to terms with whatever the PS five is going
<v Speaker 3>to do for them business business wise.
<v Speaker 2>Yep. Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>And also I'd like to ask you, Grub, do you
<v Speaker 3>think Wolverine is bigger than Crazy? Because in my head
<v Speaker 3>I think he is.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, I.
<v Speaker 1>Think for that because like Spider Man is bigger than
<v Speaker 1>Kratos uh, and Wolverine I think is kind of right
<v Speaker 1>there next to spider Man, maybe one notch below.
<v Speaker 2>Spider Man's got such a broad.
<v Speaker 1>Appeal that we've seen that repeatedly throughout multiple multiple mediums. Now, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I think Wolverine just like you know, we're gonna talk
<v Speaker 1>about it in a little bit. The way that like
<v Speaker 1>James Bond is that his potential breakout for Io Interactive
<v Speaker 1>despite having a great game for a long time with
<v Speaker 1>Agent forty seven and Hitman. So yeah, James Bond's recognizable.
<v Speaker 1>You can maybe like translate that into some new kinds
<v Speaker 1>of success. Wolverine is the kind of thing where it's
<v Speaker 1>like people will recognize that you get a good one
<v Speaker 1>of those from a recognizable developer, the team that did
<v Speaker 1>Spider Man. Yeah, I think people will take notice in
<v Speaker 1>a way that even Krados doesn't necessarily get. Credos is
<v Speaker 1>massive and the games sell very well, but Spider Man
<v Speaker 1>sold way better, and Wolverine has the potential to do
<v Speaker 1>Spider Man numbers if it delivers the way that those
<v Speaker 1>Spider Man games have. Yeah, I just think that, like
<v Speaker 1>the you know, you're right, PS five doesn't need to
<v Speaker 1>be saved. This is all about sort of making people
<v Speaker 1>feel good about spending money, and I think we're in
<v Speaker 1>a precarious position when it comes to that. That's, you know,
<v Speaker 1>the story over and over again is younger people aren't
<v Speaker 1>buying games. They certainly aren't buying consoles. We could see
<v Speaker 1>that in the year over year declines for both the
<v Speaker 1>PS five and the Xbox. The switch kind of a
<v Speaker 1>whole other story, but for those they are dipping fast,
<v Speaker 1>extremely fast. Like the PlayStation five was down something near
<v Speaker 1>fifty percent year over year, the Xbox was down seventy
<v Speaker 1>percent year over year. After being down year over year
<v Speaker 1>in twenty twenty, before I had to look at the
<v Speaker 1>year I'm like, what year is it.
<v Speaker 2>It's twenty twenty five, So.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's like making people feel good about like going
<v Speaker 1>forward and maybe doing this whole rodeo again, Like are
<v Speaker 1>you going to be like be ready and rare and
<v Speaker 1>to go to get a PS six at potentially seven
<v Speaker 1>hundred dollars when you just had this maybe what you
<v Speaker 1>consider to be a rough experience with the PS five
<v Speaker 1>where you waited a half a decade to really feel
<v Speaker 1>good about the purchase that you made. And you know,
<v Speaker 1>just looking at PlayStation's recent output and I don't think
<v Speaker 1>they're like a loon in this, but they are sort
<v Speaker 1>of a They're going to get the spotlight because they
<v Speaker 1>have the biggest console and they have been known to
<v Speaker 1>put out big games that really have won people over.
<v Speaker 1>We're talking about, you know, okay, we're waiting for Ghost
<v Speaker 1>of Yota and they had Astrobot last year.
<v Speaker 2>Is that it? It's like, well, no, there's other stuff.
<v Speaker 2>They had Lost Soul a Side.
<v Speaker 1>That's a Sony Interactive Entertainment published game. Is that the like,
<v Speaker 1>is it like, okay, it's not High Tide with you know,
<v Speaker 1>Hell Divers to Ghost to Yota Wolverine. Is it kind
<v Speaker 1>of Low Tide with some of these lesser games, and
<v Speaker 1>that's how they're going to fill in the gaps, because
<v Speaker 1>you know, the other option was those those Final Fantasy games.
<v Speaker 1>So it's like, let's get that in here, make those exclusive,
<v Speaker 1>not published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, make those exclusive to
<v Speaker 1>kind of fill in the gaps. Well, score Inix is
<v Speaker 1>not interested in doing that anymore. So how does Sony
<v Speaker 1>continue to make these the system feel like a value
<v Speaker 1>to people? Or maybe they don't care about making it
<v Speaker 1>feel like a value anymore, because it's like, where else
<v Speaker 1>are you going to go? If this is the kind
<v Speaker 1>of way, if this is the way you like to
<v Speaker 1>play games, what other option do you have? Because PlayStation
<v Speaker 1>really is kind of the only game in town for
<v Speaker 1>high fidelity console TV gaming.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, And I honestly hate that position that they've been
<v Speaker 3>put into grub because I feel like a lot of
<v Speaker 3>people that have bought into the PS five or the
<v Speaker 3>PlayStation ecosystem come to that console for a very specific
<v Speaker 3>type of game, and it's not necessarily just to have
<v Speaker 3>another machine to play Fortnite on or Call of Duty
<v Speaker 3>on or all these other multiplayer games. It's because they're
<v Speaker 3>looking for like that triple a blockbuster single player experience
<v Speaker 3>that PlayStation has built their reputation on and for them,
<v Speaker 3>and like their CFO or CMO, I forget the actual acronyms.
<v Speaker 3>A couple of weeks ago, grub to say that, like, hey,
<v Speaker 3>we're still really focused on Marathon, We're still really focused
<v Speaker 3>on live service, live service games. It is contradictory to
<v Speaker 3>what propped PlayStation up and like kind of the platform
<v Speaker 3>that they had been creating if and grew up for
<v Speaker 3>as we're seeing it in Silk Song. For as many
<v Speaker 3>gamers as there are out there, there are so many
<v Speaker 3>that do not want to play a game with another person. Yeah,
<v Speaker 3>there's plenty that want to like share that single player
<v Speaker 3>experience and share stories of it and their experiences, But
<v Speaker 3>there are a lot of people that just want a
<v Speaker 3>game on their own time. And maybe they don't. They
<v Speaker 3>have the friends, they have the communities, they just don't
<v Speaker 3>have the time to be able to interact with other
<v Speaker 3>people as freely as they can just playing a game
<v Speaker 3>on their own time.
<v Speaker 2>Yep. Yeah, And I think.
<v Speaker 1>Those people are like I often look around and like
<v Speaker 1>are we being left behind? And I think in some
<v Speaker 1>ways these companies are, but you know, at the same time,
<v Speaker 1>it's always like, oh, it's the single player or narrative
<v Speaker 1>game Dead. We've gone through that a bunch of times
<v Speaker 1>since never actually been Dead. You just got to look
<v Speaker 1>in different places. It's coming from different directions in which
<v Speaker 1>traditionally come from. Sony's going to continue to spend the
<v Speaker 1>same amount of money it's been spending on games like Wolverine,
<v Speaker 1>and I think that just means like, don't expect them
<v Speaker 1>to fill in the gaps with other stuff like that,
<v Speaker 1>and also expect maybe the gap between those kinds of
<v Speaker 1>games to get a little bit bigger because they're not
<v Speaker 1>spending a ton of extra money to keep up with
<v Speaker 1>rising development costs and rising time needed to complete these games.
<v Speaker 1>And that's again, I think where some of the anxiety
<v Speaker 1>comes from. For people who spent five hundred to seven
<v Speaker 1>hundred and fifty dollars on a PlayStation five this generation,
<v Speaker 1>it's just that the story you could tell yourself becomes
<v Speaker 1>more difficult facing down those facts.
<v Speaker 3>And for as many people that are pointing out well,
<v Speaker 3>Hell Divers was a runaway success for PlayStation I feel
<v Speaker 3>like that's more attributed to the state of multiplayer games
<v Speaker 3>grub where people are growing so fatigued with a Battle
<v Speaker 3>Royale game or like a Call of Duty. And also
<v Speaker 3>I think that also speaks to why Battlefield six is
<v Speaker 3>beta was so popular because it just felt different and
<v Speaker 3>polished enough from what gamers had been playing with for
<v Speaker 3>years now.
<v Speaker 2>Yep.
<v Speaker 1>And like Hell Divers too, like speaks to the changing
<v Speaker 1>landscape for Sony because that's the game that launched on
<v Speaker 1>PC day and date with the PlayStation version and did
<v Speaker 1>way better on PC than it did on PlayStation five.
<v Speaker 1>And now they've launched it on Xbox, this Sony interactive
<v Speaker 1>game on Xbox, and it's selling faster on Xbox than
<v Speaker 1>it did on PlayStation according to reports. So like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>this is more information that Sony's going to be used
<v Speaker 1>to be Like, the way we've done things is not
<v Speaker 1>as good as the way we're doing things now, and
<v Speaker 1>so we need to keep moving trending in this direction
<v Speaker 1>and that makes things look different as well. So you know,
<v Speaker 1>we're just talking about the landscape shifting, Sony trying to
<v Speaker 1>keep up and that what does that mean, Well, Hell
<v Speaker 1>Divers two is a part of that.
<v Speaker 2>It's a massive part of the shifting landscape.
<v Speaker 3>I also strongly dislike grub that the barrier of entry
<v Speaker 3>now to you get a PS five is so high
<v Speaker 3>if the games at PlayStation is trying to present as
<v Speaker 3>like the main focal points of the console are not
<v Speaker 3>for you, like if you're just trying to get into
<v Speaker 3>like a JRPG or like a single player game. It
<v Speaker 3>is so hard to be able to do that now.
<v Speaker 3>I mean everything costs an obscene amount now. But now
<v Speaker 3>with like the PS five going up in price and
<v Speaker 3>games not necessarily going down at all, in fact that
<v Speaker 3>like you know, they're staying at a stagnant price of
<v Speaker 3>like seventy to eighty dollars, it's just hard to justify
<v Speaker 3>upgrading to a PS five if you've been on the
<v Speaker 3>PS four or the switch one again at this point,
<v Speaker 3>I know we say this all the time. I would
<v Speaker 3>rather get a PC, even if it's like a secondhand
<v Speaker 3>PC or a Steam deck at this point.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, you just like the It's easy to understand
<v Speaker 1>what the PC is going to be and continue to
<v Speaker 1>be in. It has this gravitational well that brings or
<v Speaker 1>if everybody to it eventually, even Sony maybe not Nintendo.
<v Speaker 1>I was talking to I was waiting for my Chinese
<v Speaker 1>who the other day and I was talking to a
<v Speaker 1>guy who were talking about games. He saw my switch
<v Speaker 1>to It's like, I think Nintendo will be on PC
<v Speaker 1>in five years. I'm like, ah, just say ten years.
<v Speaker 1>When you make a prediction like that, anything can happen
<v Speaker 1>in ten years, but probably not five.
<v Speaker 3>That being said, grub yeah please. I'm still excited for
<v Speaker 3>a Wolverine game because I'm a marvel Siko. I don't
<v Speaker 3>know what this game is going to look like because
<v Speaker 3>with Spider Man you have traversal abilities, you have the
<v Speaker 3>web slinging built in. That's a major component to the character.
<v Speaker 3>Wolverine is a short king much like myself that is
<v Speaker 3>angry all the time and has a metal clause.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, I'm also looking forward to it. I love those
<v Speaker 1>Spider Man games. Those are some of my favorite PlayStation games.
<v Speaker 1>Just great to play, they feel fantastic. I want to
<v Speaker 1>see how they translate that to Wolverine, and Wolverine is
<v Speaker 1>a character I like a lot. I'm I'm kind of
<v Speaker 1>basic bitch when it comes to that stuff. Give me,
<v Speaker 1>give me Wolverine.
<v Speaker 2>Snick snick. Indeed, all right, speaking of like, hey, how
<v Speaker 2>does PlayStation fill in the gaps. Well.
<v Speaker 1>One of the ways they do that is by partnering
<v Speaker 1>with multi platform games that are going to be going
<v Speaker 1>to go everywhere, but they kind of treat them as
<v Speaker 1>PlayStation games. They did it with Hogwarts Legacy to great effect,
<v Speaker 1>and they're going to try to repeat that with Double
<v Speaker 1>O seven First Light, which had a state of play yesterday.
<v Speaker 1>Wesley Yinpool at IGN sort of wraps up some of
<v Speaker 1>the details here. Double O seven first Light has set
<v Speaker 1>a release date of March twenty seven, twenty twenty six.
<v Speaker 1>As part of an extensive first look at gameplay during
<v Speaker 1>a Sony State of Play Deep Dive, iowis James Bond
<v Speaker 1>Adventure launches then across PlayStation five, Xbox Series X and S,
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo Switch To and PC pre orders get it. There's
<v Speaker 1>a Deluxe edition for free and a bunch of other stuff,
<v Speaker 1>and then there's a massive Collectors Edition that comes with
<v Speaker 1>a golden gun for like three hundred dollars. They showed
<v Speaker 1>off gameplay of this game that is coming out March
<v Speaker 1>twenty seventh of next year, and they showed to press
<v Speaker 1>a little bit earlier this week, and they kind of like,
<v Speaker 1>let us ask some questions, but I don't think we
<v Speaker 1>saw much of what people like. We didn't see much
<v Speaker 1>more than what people saw in this state of play.
<v Speaker 1>But I do feel like when I was there and
<v Speaker 1>was able to ask some questions, I got a pretty
<v Speaker 1>good feeling from this game. I think it looks I
<v Speaker 1>think it looks like it's going to deliver what you
<v Speaker 1>want here from both a James Bond side of things
<v Speaker 1>and the developer Hitman side of things. So the way
<v Speaker 1>the structure works is there are these guided missions, as
<v Speaker 1>I think how they're describing them, and those will be
<v Speaker 1>the set pieces, linear corridor sort of thing you are
<v Speaker 1>maybe you're driving a car.
<v Speaker 2>I didn't think the car driving looked too hot. That
<v Speaker 2>was the one thing I was like.
<v Speaker 1>I kind of wish they would amplify this a little
<v Speaker 1>bit or but it could be like there was a
<v Speaker 1>mission where you're trying to get to a plane on
<v Speaker 1>a tarmac and you're firing. You're like shooting at cars
<v Speaker 1>and exploding them and you're kind of going from cover
<v Speaker 1>to cover and stuff like that. This is one of
<v Speaker 1>the guided missions that's going to be kind.
<v Speaker 2>Of what it is set pieces.
<v Speaker 1>You go forward, you trigger something, something cool happens, and
<v Speaker 1>then you get to the next you know, I'm not
<v Speaker 1>going to say real mission, but like the next open mission.
<v Speaker 1>And there's several of these, and these play a lot
<v Speaker 1>more like Hitman, where they are open. You can decide
<v Speaker 1>sort of how to solve them yourself. You can come
<v Speaker 1>up with a bunch of different ideas, and the game's
<v Speaker 1>going to facilitate that. They showed off to us a
<v Speaker 1>sequence where James Bond caused a distraction, like by messing
<v Speaker 1>around with like a hose or something electricity and someone
<v Speaker 1>was like had to look the other way, and then
<v Speaker 1>he hopped a fence, climbed in through a window, and
<v Speaker 1>then suddenly he was at the party that he couldn't.
<v Speaker 2>Get into because he didn't have an invitation.
<v Speaker 1>There's segments where he's like overhearing people's phone conversations and
<v Speaker 1>that provides intel and then he can act on that.
<v Speaker 1>It's very hit Man, but with a strong James Bond
<v Speaker 1>flavor on top. And I just think that the way
<v Speaker 1>that they could to me, it just sounds like a
<v Speaker 1>good structure of have these action focused guided missions, then
<v Speaker 1>let us kind of do some cool James Bond shit
<v Speaker 1>at these exotic locales and then take me on another
<v Speaker 1>guided mission to take to whisk me off to some
<v Speaker 1>other exotic location. And I think as long as they
<v Speaker 1>can keep the pacing pretty solid of getting you in
<v Speaker 1>and out of these open missions in a way that
<v Speaker 1>kind of feels like a James Bond action movie, then
<v Speaker 1>I think it's going to deliver.
<v Speaker 2>And I was pretty impressed by it. Did you get
<v Speaker 2>a chance to see any of the state of play.
<v Speaker 3>I didn't get the chance to check out the whole
<v Speaker 3>state of play. I saw a couple of clips on
<v Speaker 3>social media grub of the game. And if this game
<v Speaker 3>can deliver on the miscellaneous hit Man hijinks that you
<v Speaker 3>kind of raft for yourself as a player, but also
<v Speaker 3>kind of come to a a cinematic conclusion or cinematic
<v Speaker 3>set piece, I think that will hit really, really well
<v Speaker 3>with a lot of audiences where you know, you're the
<v Speaker 3>example they showed of like you got to get into
<v Speaker 3>the party, will you find your own means to get
<v Speaker 3>in there, and but then once you're there at the
<v Speaker 3>party there is like a big set piece. I could
<v Speaker 3>find that being.
<v Speaker 2>Very very.
<v Speaker 3>Enticing for audiences. Also, like we mentioned with Wolverine seven,
<v Speaker 3>James Bond, that's a name that a lot of people
<v Speaker 3>are familiar with that, a lot of people are kind
<v Speaker 3>of like starving to see more from.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think people will decide, like, you know, I
<v Speaker 1>was never into those older hit Man games, so I've
<v Speaker 1>ignored those. I can continue ignoring these new Hitmn games,
<v Speaker 1>even though Jeff grab won't shut up about them.
<v Speaker 2>That sort of thing.
<v Speaker 1>James Bond resets the clock on that where people go, well,
<v Speaker 1>you know, this is different than Hitman.
<v Speaker 2>This is I'll get into the ground floor.
<v Speaker 1>I'll get to see what all that the fuss is
<v Speaker 1>about with the studio, and it's a familiar property, so
<v Speaker 1>I kind of have some buy in already. You could
<v Speaker 1>kind of see the obvious reasons why they are putting
<v Speaker 1>a lot of effort into it. And they are putting
<v Speaker 1>a lot of effort into it. The technology looks significantly
<v Speaker 1>improved for like crowds inside of buildings, and you know,
<v Speaker 1>the phone conversation you were overhearing looked a lot more
<v Speaker 1>naturalistic than it does in hit Man. That kind of
<v Speaker 1>feels like a living board game in a lot of ways,
<v Speaker 1>which no complaints, but I think when we're trying to
<v Speaker 1>like up the production values that was a parent here
<v Speaker 1>now there were some concerns people have about the frame rate.
<v Speaker 1>It was really crashing whenever explosions would happen. You know,
<v Speaker 1>I'll mention that because I guess you know, it's a fact.
<v Speaker 1>But I'm just not concerned about that for a game
<v Speaker 1>that's not coming out until next year.
<v Speaker 2>We're still six months away. You know, why did they
<v Speaker 2>show it off if it's going to run poorly.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>I just think people should get it that that has
<v Speaker 1>nothing to do without the game is probably going to
<v Speaker 1>run when it hits systems next year, and.
<v Speaker 2>Then beyond that. I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>I just think I like the tone that they're going
<v Speaker 1>for young James Bond, kind of learning on the job.
<v Speaker 1>That sort of thing seems promising to me. I've always
<v Speaker 1>liked James Bond and video games. I'm still playing through
<v Speaker 1>everything or nothing, getting near the end of that. It's
<v Speaker 1>nice to see him back in full forth in top form,
<v Speaker 1>I should say.
<v Speaker 3>I think it's also clever to go with a younger
<v Speaker 3>James Bond versus an older one, also because you avoid
<v Speaker 3>having to model the player character as an existing actor
<v Speaker 3>or previous actor that's portrayed Bond. And also it lends
<v Speaker 3>itself to the Hitman hijinks of like, oh shit, I
<v Speaker 3>don't quite know what I'm doing yet, so I did
<v Speaker 3>just laser that dude in the face and threw a
<v Speaker 3>briefcase at his partner. My hope is that James Bond
<v Speaker 3>is also a believer in throwing coins to distract people.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, yeah, I think there was some thing that he
<v Speaker 1>threw to distract people in the demo that they showed us.
<v Speaker 1>I did ask like, hey, like, how much is this
<v Speaker 1>going to be like Hitman in terms of, you know,
<v Speaker 1>the structure where you can get your level twenty mastery
<v Speaker 1>on a level by doing things over and over again
<v Speaker 1>and taking different paths and unlocking certain things and being like, Okay,
<v Speaker 1>now you've gotten You've earned this level achievement by doing
<v Speaker 1>this kill in this way. Now do it another way
<v Speaker 1>and unlock this level mastery. It doesn't sound like it's
<v Speaker 1>going to have a of that. This is much more about.
<v Speaker 1>This is a James Bond action adventure. Go through the
<v Speaker 1>adventure and don't necessarily worry about replaying the levels. Now,
<v Speaker 1>that's not to say there aren't reasons to replay things.
<v Speaker 1>They are going to give you multiple pathways so you
<v Speaker 1>can explore.
<v Speaker 2>It's just not.
<v Speaker 1>About like leveling up and unlocking new ways of starting
<v Speaker 1>the mission the way it isn't hit Man all right,
<v Speaker 1>I'm looking forward to that game again. It's out March
<v Speaker 1>twenty seventh. I'll be interested to see how the switch
<v Speaker 1>to version runs. That's game I'll probably end up playing
<v Speaker 1>on PC anyhow, and we'll.
<v Speaker 2>Get answers on that early next year. For now, let's
<v Speaker 2>take a break.
<v Speaker 1>Plenty of more headlines to get into, including Marvel Rivals
<v Speaker 1>launching on PS four. We'll talk about that after our break,
<v Speaker 1>which you can skip by going to giant bomb dot
<v Speaker 1>com slash join and getting the ad free version of
<v Speaker 1>the show.
<v Speaker 2>We'll be right back.
<v Speaker 1>Jam My computer sick. I've decided it's time to start
<v Speaker 1>building a new one. I just don't know where to start, Greb.
<v Speaker 2>If your computer is SICKI poo.
<v Speaker 3>I got to start with MSI, which just drops something
<v Speaker 3>big in its brand new Z eight ninety and B
<v Speaker 3>eight sixty Intel motherboards.
<v Speaker 1>Are those the motherboards that unlock the power of the
<v Speaker 1>Intel Core Ultra series two CPUs.
<v Speaker 3>Yes, sir, these MOBOs, as we're calling them on the streets,
<v Speaker 3>are powerhouses for gaming. Streaming and whatever intense tasks you
<v Speaker 3>need to throw at them.
<v Speaker 1>Oh okay, but Jane, you know me, I'm scared of tools.
<v Speaker 1>That's screwdrivers so sharp.
<v Speaker 3>It's okay, bud. MSI made them jeffproof meb Dan proof
<v Speaker 3>as well, which means they're easy to work with. No
<v Speaker 3>more wrestling with tiny little screws or confusing manuals. We're
<v Speaker 3>talking easy dbug LEDs that tell you exactly what's going
<v Speaker 3>on toolless installs for your M two drives and jipoos
<v Speaker 3>or GPUs. We're calling them jipoos two now, okay, hell yeah,
<v Speaker 3>oh okay yeah.
<v Speaker 1>MSI has that modern bios as well that looks like
<v Speaker 1>it was actually made for humans to use, not some
<v Speaker 1>relic from two thousand and three.
<v Speaker 2>Give me more of that.
<v Speaker 3>Yes, that's right. It's going to be so easy to
<v Speaker 3>get secure boots on the ground. It's like PC building
<v Speaker 3>on easymode grub. And here's the best part, giant BombCast listeners.
<v Speaker 3>MSI is giving you ten percent off these new regularly
<v Speaker 3>priced Z eight ninety and B eight sixty boards. Just

<v Speaker 1>Oh, I'm going to stack that discount. They allow you

<v Speaker 1>dollars in Steam codes. It's basically free games just for upgrading.

<v Speaker 1>to upgrade your setup, do not wait. Visit us dash
<v Speaker 1>store dot MSI dot com and use the code BombCast

<v Speaker 1>PC the upgrade it deserves. MSI making PC building less
<v Speaker 1>of a headache and a lot more fun mobile exhaustage
<v Speaker 1>from stacking all those discounts. But we should get back
<v Speaker 1>into the show anyhow. It's Game Mess Mornings. I'm Jeff Grubb,
<v Speaker 1>that's Janet Choa. Let's continue with the headlines. Nine months
<v Speaker 1>after release, Marvel Rivals will arrive on your aging PS four.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Ed Nightingale at Eurogamer. Marvel Rivals is
<v Speaker 1>set to release on PS four later this month, alongside
<v Speaker 1>The Hero Shooter's fourth season.
<v Speaker 2>Season four.
<v Speaker 1>Heart of the Dragon will launch on the twelfth of September,
<v Speaker 1>introducing new Vanguard hero Angela, a character originally created by
<v Speaker 1>Neil Gamon and Todd McFarlane, who first appeared and spawned
<v Speaker 1>in nineteen ninety three. She's a one winged angel who
<v Speaker 1>can fly and dive into enemies with her spear. Why
<v Speaker 1>this is an Image comics character?
<v Speaker 2>What is happening here? What? How did this happen? Do
<v Speaker 2>you know how this happened?
<v Speaker 3>This is a Todd McFarland joint, that's why.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, I mean, I know they're independent. They could
<v Speaker 2>put it anywhere. Very bizarre.
<v Speaker 1>Later in the season on the twenty fifth of September
<v Speaker 1>and new Convergence Mode Mapple launch blah blah blah. We're
<v Speaker 1>talking about the PS four version, you know, a sign
<v Speaker 1>that the current gen is still includes PS four. Now
<v Speaker 1>there isn't an Xbox One version. I think that makes
<v Speaker 1>sense probably that like, yeah, there's probably quite a few
<v Speaker 1>more active PS fours out there. And I think this
<v Speaker 1>is as simple as we're leaving money on the table.
<v Speaker 1>There are people who would play this game if they
<v Speaker 1>could access it. The only way that they might want
<v Speaker 1>to access it is through their PlayStation four, which they're
<v Speaker 1>using every day to play for Fortnite or whatever roadblocks,
<v Speaker 1>whatever it is. Let's just give them this option and
<v Speaker 1>take it from there. Also, doing this work to get
<v Speaker 1>it running on PS four will probably help when it
<v Speaker 1>eventually comes to switch to as well. So it's like
<v Speaker 1>it all kind of like lines up for take advantage
<v Speaker 1>of that PS four audience, now get on the switch
<v Speaker 1>to later and make more money going into the future.
<v Speaker 2>It's probably that simple, right.
<v Speaker 3>Yes, that's what I see this as grab This is
<v Speaker 3>like a pathway to get this working on the switch to,
<v Speaker 3>because this game would continue to do gangbusters on the
<v Speaker 3>switch to. It's it's kind of insane, like I've stopped
<v Speaker 3>playing Marvel Rivals, just kind of phased out because of
<v Speaker 3>time and everything grub. But it is wild that the
<v Speaker 3>game is still taking off, it is still doing popular,
<v Speaker 3>that they still have multiple characters planned on top of Angela.
<v Speaker 3>I believe there's like a Gene Gray character planned. I've
<v Speaker 3>seen not rumblings but straight up gameplay of Blade, and
<v Speaker 3>I think they also recently put out a trailer for
<v Speaker 3>Daredevil coming to the game soon. So it props to
<v Speaker 3>them for continuing to churn out characters and for this
<v Speaker 3>game continuing to be popular. But I think this does
<v Speaker 3>speak to how there is a large audience Grub still
<v Speaker 3>on the PS four.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, And it's just like, if you're one of these companies,
<v Speaker 1>stop expecting them to move on. If they haven't move
<v Speaker 1>done yet, they're not going to. And if they are
<v Speaker 1>going to, it'll because of GTA six. And then and
<v Speaker 1>then what.
<v Speaker 2>You're gonna like put your You're gonna have to.
<v Speaker 1>Be like, Okay, we got GT six, now come play
<v Speaker 1>our game. They're gonna be distracted with GTA six for
<v Speaker 1>quite some time. If they're waiting to get a PlayStation
<v Speaker 1>five for g t A six, they're getting it to
<v Speaker 1>play g t A six.
<v Speaker 2>They're not gonna go play your game.
<v Speaker 1>So if you want to get the attention to these people,
<v Speaker 1>you do it now on the PS four and I yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I think that makes a lot of sense.
<v Speaker 3>I misspoken. Gray and Blater already out.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, who can keep up? It's impossible? Yeah, So then
<v Speaker 1>Angela would be the next one?
<v Speaker 2>Are there other characters tease?
<v Speaker 3>Then?
<v Speaker 2>I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>I kind of am interested in going back at to
<v Speaker 1>check out Marvel Rivals at some point. I don't know
<v Speaker 1>when we would ever do that.
<v Speaker 3>I just need one hero to get me back in Grub.
<v Speaker 3>We all know how that is.
<v Speaker 1>I know Bud Howard that done one day, the boy
<v Speaker 1>Scout Howard the duck, uh that one. I just read
<v Speaker 1>Star Wars Outlaws. Switch To reviews are surprising. I got
<v Speaker 1>I have one review here. But there's a lot of
<v Speaker 1>footage out there. We talked about this a little bit
<v Speaker 1>yesterday that there was some footage and it looked pretty decent.
<v Speaker 1>Video Games Chronicle had a video that looked pretty solid.
<v Speaker 2>Well, now people are playing even more.
<v Speaker 1>There's more corroborating evidence here that this is a really
<v Speaker 1>surprising port and there's a reason for that. The reason
<v Speaker 1>that it's so surprising. We'll get to that here in
<v Speaker 1>a second.
<v Speaker 2>But pj.
<v Speaker 1>Ol Riley at Nintendo Life basically said that he had
<v Speaker 1>a chance here now playing on switch to, to see
<v Speaker 1>if the game lived up to the eight out of
<v Speaker 1>ten score he gave it when he played on Xbox.
<v Speaker 2>He says it's totally justified.
<v Speaker 1>He still agrees with that score, but he was a
<v Speaker 1>little bit surprised when the reviews dropped, or that he
<v Speaker 1>was a little bit supressed we start up this one
<v Speaker 1>and saw just how well it was running on switch To,
<v Speaker 1>especially after reports that the game looked like pretty underwhelming
<v Speaker 1>and maybe even pretty bad and handheld well in doc
<v Speaker 1>mode and in handheld mode it is running very, very solid,
<v Speaker 1>a solid thirty frames per second, which is, you know,
<v Speaker 1>way better than it does on a Steam Deck or
<v Speaker 1>an Asis Rock ally, and so that is like a
<v Speaker 1>huge improvement for the handheld version of this game. The
<v Speaker 1>reason that is so surprising other than I think we
<v Speaker 1>might be a little accustomed to these bigger games that
<v Speaker 1>have come out in the past couple of years, maybe
<v Speaker 1>not always running great on any handheld let alone.
<v Speaker 2>The Switch To.
<v Speaker 1>This game's technology fundamentally relies on ray tracing, to the
<v Speaker 1>point where people on PC try to take the ray
<v Speaker 1>tracing out of the game to get more performance and
<v Speaker 1>it breaks the game, or it breaks the graphics and
<v Speaker 1>introduces all kinds of graphical glitches. Because it doesn't have
<v Speaker 1>a lot of rasterized lighting. It relies on ray tracing.
<v Speaker 1>That is still true on the Switch To version, which
<v Speaker 1>we always heard was going to support ray tracing, but
<v Speaker 1>whoever really thought we would see that or that any
<v Speaker 1>developer would actually try to do it well, It turns
<v Speaker 1>out some of these games need hardware ray tracing to
<v Speaker 1>take advantage. Actually, like Get these games to run in
<v Speaker 1>the first place, and it's good enough for a game
<v Speaker 1>like this to run into that solid thirty frames per second.
<v Speaker 1>And I'm very encouraged by this to the point where
<v Speaker 1>it's like I was trying to track down a code
<v Speaker 1>from Ubisoft and now the game's out.
<v Speaker 2>I'll just go buy it.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, I'm gonna play this, And a big part
<v Speaker 1>of that is you be soft as the one. Like,
<v Speaker 1>one of the cool features that you'd be soft is
<v Speaker 1>if you sign up for you Play and you connect
<v Speaker 1>your account your they just have cloud saves built in
<v Speaker 1>and you can transfer your save from PC consoles to
<v Speaker 1>switch to in any direction. So I'm gonna take my
<v Speaker 1>PC save and continue playing that game on switch to
<v Speaker 1>and I'm.
<v Speaker 2>Looking forward to doing it. Jan ray Tracing on switch to.
<v Speaker 1>That that's just I mean, god, I think most people
<v Speaker 1>turn ray Tracing off on PC with a very hefty GPU.
<v Speaker 2>Do you find this encouraging?
<v Speaker 3>Sure, grub this is one of those things where I
<v Speaker 3>feel like it I would rather sacrifice in terms to
<v Speaker 3>just get a smoother game going. And I feel like
<v Speaker 3>for the the normies out there that just want to
<v Speaker 3>play a game and may not be looking for graphic fidelity,
<v Speaker 3>especially if your new main consoles to switch to. There's
<v Speaker 3>an understanding of like, oh okay, now I get it.
<v Speaker 3>Just make game run good please, But it's just see
<v Speaker 3>the advancements with ray racing. I would love to see
<v Speaker 3>this become more streamlined moving forward. Hopefully it isn't as
<v Speaker 3>much of a problem moving forward.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, you know, I guess worth reminding people ray tracing
<v Speaker 1>the ideas it can like calculate light rays, you know,
<v Speaker 1>path the path of rays moving through a scene, so
<v Speaker 1>it can physically render light or reflections in a much
<v Speaker 1>more realistic way. And you probably can't tell the difference
<v Speaker 1>because rasterized lighting got really good and it's hard to
<v Speaker 1>tell the difference in a lot of cases. But it
<v Speaker 1>can save time for developers if they choose to go
<v Speaker 1>that route exclusively. Which between this and Indiana Jones, the
<v Speaker 1>evidence is that more developers are doing exactly that. And
<v Speaker 1>the good news here is that if developers continue that trend,
<v Speaker 1>the switch to seems like it should be able to
<v Speaker 1>handle it to a certain extent. And you know, I
<v Speaker 1>don't want to call Star Wars outlaws a like one
<v Speaker 1>of those miracle ports, like the switch one got with
<v Speaker 1>Witcher three and Doom and all these other ones, but
<v Speaker 1>it's definitely an encouraging sign for this generation. New Valve
<v Speaker 1>trademark might have just revealed the Steam console's name. This
<v Speaker 1>is from Alex Hopley at Game Reactor. While Valve seems
<v Speaker 1>to be doing pretty well with the Steam marketplace and
<v Speaker 1>Steam Deck, there have been rumors swirling of a Steam console,
<v Speaker 1>and it appears that we might now know the name
<v Speaker 1>of it. According to trademarks filed by Valve for computer
<v Speaker 1>hardware and a computer game console, spotted on Reddit via wccftech,
<v Speaker 1>the device's name is currently the Steam Frame. It has
<v Speaker 1>a better ring to it than the Steam Machine, which
<v Speaker 1>was Valve's last attempt at breaking into the home market.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know if I agree with that, but I
<v Speaker 1>do like the way Steam Frame sounds. There's no official
<v Speaker 1>confirmation for this from Valves, so take it with a
<v Speaker 1>pinch of salt, but the trademark filings are fresh, and
<v Speaker 1>there have been rumors of an rDNA for AMD device
<v Speaker 1>for some time now. It doesn't seem too far fetched
<v Speaker 1>of an idea for Valve to step into the home
<v Speaker 1>console market, especially as Xbox seems to be going towards
<v Speaker 1>making consoles lightweight gaming PCs. Yeah, yeah, okay, So do
<v Speaker 1>you think the market's ready for a Valve console, like
<v Speaker 1>obviously with the idea of like it's probably gonna be
<v Speaker 1>a consoleized version of.
<v Speaker 2>A PC like I I might. I think it can work.
<v Speaker 2>I just don't. It wouldn't be for me. So do
<v Speaker 2>you think it can work?
<v Speaker 3>I think it can work. Grub if they can man
<v Speaker 3>if Steam can, Valve can manage to get this in
<v Speaker 3>one of the big box retailers and market it well enough,
<v Speaker 3>Like even if it's if it's like in a costco
<v Speaker 3>or something versus like a best Buy, Target, Walmart. If
<v Speaker 3>it's in like a costco, and then someone sees it
<v Speaker 3>as they're getting their rotisserie chicken for the week and
<v Speaker 3>sees the name Steam or the word Steam, and there's
<v Speaker 3>that familiarity at least, even if you are a console
<v Speaker 3>gamer of what Steam is and the promise that you
<v Speaker 3>can play all of these Steam games on your Steam
<v Speaker 3>frame supposedly, then I could see that being enticing. Again,
<v Speaker 3>I think this is not a device for you and
<v Speaker 3>I specifically, or people in in our space, but for
<v Speaker 3>someone buy curious scrub for getting a PC. This could
<v Speaker 3>be for them.
<v Speaker 2>I think it's Uh.
<v Speaker 1>It's also the kind of thing where you know, everything
<v Speaker 1>comes back to GTA six, but you get this app
<v Speaker 1>before GTA six and offer it up as an alternative
<v Speaker 1>to someone who's.
<v Speaker 2>Like, man that PlayStation six or PlayStation five.
<v Speaker 1>Is very expensive and I don't know if I need
<v Speaker 1>all that, And I like playing stuff on PC for
<v Speaker 1>or like the or like the idea of playing stuff
<v Speaker 1>on a PC, but maybe mine's not up to snuff. Well,
<v Speaker 1>maybe just get the Steam frame instead. I'm also looking
<v Speaker 1>at this and someone a chat mentioned that there was
<v Speaker 1>a data mine this is this is actually about VR,
<v Speaker 1>and I'm looking at the story not seeing any reason
<v Speaker 1>why we would assume that this is the Valve console.
<v Speaker 1>It could be that Decord headset that like standalone had
<v Speaker 1>said that apparently Valve has been working on for a
<v Speaker 1>long time as well. It's just been It's just there's
<v Speaker 1>been a lot more smoke around the console side of
<v Speaker 1>things than on the VR side of things from Valve
<v Speaker 1>for the last couple of months, so I think that's why
<v Speaker 1>people are leaning towards this being the console. But either way,
<v Speaker 1>like Valve probably faces a thing here of like Okay, well, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>they could do either one of those, and they probably
<v Speaker 1>are working on some stuff to like make either of
<v Speaker 1>those be appealing, like and obviously I'm getting that. Do
<v Speaker 1>you think Half Life three is going to happen with
<v Speaker 1>if this is the console or VR whatever, do you
<v Speaker 1>think they try to pair that up with this launch?
<v Speaker 3>Oh that would be amazing, grub that that would sell this? Yep,
<v Speaker 3>that would sell this. Also, I can't see them not
<v Speaker 3>also releasing Half Life three on proper steam. Oh yeah,
<v Speaker 3>but yeah, for sure this would be This would be
<v Speaker 3>a frame mover for sure, crib I didn't see it
<v Speaker 3>in the rundown here, But is there any rumors, rumblings
<v Speaker 3>or word on what a potential price would look like?
<v Speaker 2>Now?
<v Speaker 1>I think we might have talked about it before, and
<v Speaker 1>I think all that was just speculation. If there is
<v Speaker 1>anything solid out there, I don't recall it, but I
<v Speaker 1>mean I.
<v Speaker 2>Think we could probably.
<v Speaker 1>I would guess it would be a tiered system because
<v Speaker 1>it's probably still going to be a PC at heart
<v Speaker 1>and so, and if they're going to work with third
<v Speaker 1>party vendors the way they did with the Steam Machine,
<v Speaker 1>it'll be like here's the five hundred version, five hundred
<v Speaker 1>dollars version with basic specs, and you can go up
<v Speaker 1>to a fifteen hundred dollars version with all of the
<v Speaker 1>bells and whistles or something like that. But I would
<v Speaker 1>expect it to start around five hundred dollars because you
<v Speaker 1>take it like a Steam deck and then you can
<v Speaker 1>without having the space constraints of making it portable, you
<v Speaker 1>can probably put a lot of beefy hardware in there
<v Speaker 1>and keep it around the same price of a Steam deck.
<v Speaker 1>So five hundred to six hundred dollars, Yeah, that would
<v Speaker 1>be my expectation. It like they could charge a bit
<v Speaker 1>more for it, but I think the whole point of
<v Speaker 1>this jan if you're trying to make a console version
<v Speaker 1>of the ste machine, the point is to make it affordable.
<v Speaker 3>Right, Yes, yeah, totally. This is strategically business wise, Greb.
<v Speaker 3>It would make so much sense to try and sneak
<v Speaker 3>this under. However, the however much the PS five is
<v Speaker 3>currently at, because that is the market you're trying to
<v Speaker 3>go for on top of like random PC stragglers. You
<v Speaker 3>want to target that audience that is looking for a
<v Speaker 3>console experience but is looking to play games.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and uh yeah, Sean's like seven hundred dollars. He's
<v Speaker 1>assuming I would seven hundred dollars, but then put a
<v Speaker 1>Steam subsidy on top because they are willing to sell it.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe cost maybe a little bit of a loss for
<v Speaker 1>these first couple of generations for these things to get
<v Speaker 1>them off the ground the way that they did with
<v Speaker 1>the Steam deck. So that's kind of unfactoring that, and
<v Speaker 1>we'll see.
<v Speaker 2>All right here.
<v Speaker 1>New features added to game Boy Advance Nintendo Classics. This
<v Speaker 1>is remind Nintendo News. Nintendo has released an update for
<v Speaker 1>the Nintendo Switcher online game Boy Advance app on Switch
<v Speaker 1>and Switch two, giving it the Nintendo giving the Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>Classics branding with a new banner and icon. The update
<v Speaker 1>adds the ability to customize your control scheme, allowing you
<v Speaker 1>to save different button mappings for each game. Ten adyp
<v Speaker 1>support when playing in handheld mode has also been added
<v Speaker 1>for those playing on Switch to, as well as a
<v Speaker 1>GBA startup sequence. I think if you hold the stick
<v Speaker 1>in any direction, it'll start up just like a classic
<v Speaker 1>Game Boy Advance with the ding and everything, and that's
<v Speaker 1>that's a top tier. I think mount rushmore stout startup sound. Obviously,
<v Speaker 1>PlayStation one is the George Washington. There are game cubes
<v Speaker 1>on there, but GBA is on there as well, So
<v Speaker 1>I'm glad that they put that little Easter egg in there.
<v Speaker 2>That's that's neat.
<v Speaker 1>You know, we don't have to talk about these specifics
<v Speaker 1>gen but Nintendo Switch Online overall. Is this something that
<v Speaker 1>you interact with on any regular basis? How do you
<v Speaker 1>feel about the service and how do you feel about
<v Speaker 1>it compared to like the old virtual console.
<v Speaker 2>You're buying games individually. What's the state of that to you?
<v Speaker 3>I would rather buy games individually grub just because I
<v Speaker 3>feel like we had a bigger library when it was
<v Speaker 3>the virtual console versus how it's doled out now. I
<v Speaker 3>think it's a neat bonus for folks that just have
<v Speaker 3>that library of games. It's just not I particularly have
<v Speaker 3>not been given the GBA games or older Nintendo games
<v Speaker 3>that I am looking for Specifically, I want more, and
<v Speaker 3>I want more niche titles, like, for instance, I'd love
<v Speaker 3>to be able to like dip into an older Pokemon game,
<v Speaker 3>and I just haven't been able to do that. I
<v Speaker 3>have something like Golden Sun, which is great, but there's
<v Speaker 3>other miscellaneous GBA titles that I'm looking to play, and
<v Speaker 3>I'm hankering to play as well. Also, Grub. You know
<v Speaker 3>you can play some of these games elsewhere and it
<v Speaker 3>feels better. Also, I want to I want to play
<v Speaker 3>DS games again, Grub. I don't know why I woke
<v Speaker 3>up this week thinking it'd be great to have a
<v Speaker 3>second screen. Damn it.
<v Speaker 1>It's worth just getting a new you know, a new
<v Speaker 1>three DS, an old new three DS secondhand, or even
<v Speaker 1>just a DSi Excel or something like that, because that's
<v Speaker 1>the best way to play those games still. And you
<v Speaker 1>can hack that fuck out of those things and do whatever.
<v Speaker 2>You need to do on them. It's good stuff. Uh okay.
<v Speaker 1>Amazon's tomb Raider TV series is a live confirms that
<v Speaker 1>Sophie Turner will play Laura Croft in the show. This
<v Speaker 1>is from John Walker at Kotaku. It seems reports of
<v Speaker 1>the death of Amazon Primes tomb Raiders series may have
<v Speaker 1>been greatly exaggerated. The UK's execrable Daily Mail reported earlier
<v Speaker 1>this year that sources have said the project, scripted by
<v Speaker 1>Phoebe waller Bridge, was debt. However, it's now being reported
<v Speaker 1>elsewhere that the show is still in development and that
<v Speaker 1>Games Game of Thrones's Sophie Turner is confirmed to be
<v Speaker 1>in the lead role. We already knew Turner was intended
<v Speaker 1>to play Laura Craft in this latest attempt to convert
<v Speaker 1>tomb Rader from games to screen, with the rumors first
<v Speaker 1>appearing in October twenty twenty four, then seeming more substantial
<v Speaker 1>in November. Six months later, the Errant report that the
<v Speaker 1>whole project had appeared, and things have been quiet since.
<v Speaker 1>But now both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety are reporting
<v Speaker 1>that not only are things still progressing, but the film
<v Speaker 1>is due to start soonish.
<v Speaker 2>Our filming is due to start soonish.
<v Speaker 1>The official date, according to Variety is January nineteenth, twenty
<v Speaker 1>twenty six, for shooting to begin, with Sophie Turner officially
<v Speaker 1>confirmed by Amazon mg MGM as appearing in the lead role. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>on again, off again development. Hell, that stuff's pretty normal
<v Speaker 1>for a Hollywood production. So not shocked by the back
<v Speaker 1>and forth of any of this. But you know, how
<v Speaker 1>are you feeling about the return of a tomb Raider
<v Speaker 1>film series and Sophie Turner as Laura Croft.
<v Speaker 3>Grub I'm gonna be honest, tomb Raider please as a
<v Speaker 3>game never really appealed to me. Even as a youth,
<v Speaker 3>and the prospect of seeing polygonal boobs, and even then afterwards,
<v Speaker 3>it's still never grabbed me. The movies never really grabbed
<v Speaker 3>me at all. So I'm just going to be on
<v Speaker 3>the sidelights, politely nodding and thinking, oh, that's cool.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, there was a time where Larcroft was the
<v Speaker 1>biggest thing in video games. It was this massive mainstream hit,
<v Speaker 1>and that turned some of those movies, you know, the
<v Speaker 1>Angelina Joe films were really successful.
<v Speaker 2>Actually, at least the first.
<v Speaker 1>One did really well, which is why I got a sequel,
<v Speaker 1>And that's because it was all in the power of
<v Speaker 1>this character and the franchise, and that just I mean,
<v Speaker 1>it has faded over time to the point where it's like,
<v Speaker 1>was it ever.
<v Speaker 2>Really that big? And it was, but now you look back,
<v Speaker 2>it's like, was it ever really that big? And Jen,
<v Speaker 2>I'm with you.
<v Speaker 1>Even as someone at the time who was looking for
<v Speaker 1>polygonal boobs, I was just like, these games aren't great,
<v Speaker 1>this is not actually worth any of this. I don't
<v Speaker 1>enjoy them, and I still don't enjoy them to this day.
<v Speaker 1>I tried to play the most recent remaster collection and
<v Speaker 1>I thought they did a good job of modernizing the control.
<v Speaker 1>They introduced analog control, I think, and things like that,
<v Speaker 1>and it's worth going back from a historical perspective. I
<v Speaker 1>just have never thought those games were all that fun.
<v Speaker 2>But okay, yeah, let's do it.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, you could do fun things with a tomb
<v Speaker 1>Raider movie, and I really do hope they make it
<v Speaker 1>as fun as possible.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, put a t rex in there, put a t
<v Speaker 2>rex in thereeah that Sophie Turner fight a t rex.
<v Speaker 3>If if someone if I'm going to get a scene,
<v Speaker 3>even if it's like less than two minutes of Sophie
<v Speaker 3>Turner punching a t Rex or a raptor any kind
<v Speaker 3>of dinosaur, I'll watch.
<v Speaker 2>Yep. I did, like, you know, I did like the
<v Speaker 2>newer tomb Raider games.
<v Speaker 1>The first one that that first remake or reboot I
<v Speaker 1>should say, was pretty good. The second one was fantastic,
<v Speaker 1>and then the third one it fell off pretty quickly.
<v Speaker 1>And then then and then because of that, the game
<v Speaker 1>sort of just reverted back to where I had it before,
<v Speaker 1>where it's like I don't think about it ever. And yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I did like those games when I played them. I
<v Speaker 1>don't know, I just turne Raider overall is in a
<v Speaker 1>weird spot for me where it's cultural cachet is hard
<v Speaker 1>to explain it, hard to put a finger on the
<v Speaker 1>pulse of it.
<v Speaker 2>Like how important is this to people? Really? Do people
<v Speaker 2>still go get tomb Raider tattoos? I don't know?
<v Speaker 3>Oh gosh, yeah, I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>I really, I really don't.
<v Speaker 3>I thought that Alicia vykandor movie h for the tomb
<v Speaker 3>Raider movie the last one was was okay. And seeing
<v Speaker 3>all the talent and and all the staffing for this
<v Speaker 3>new Amazon Prime show, yeah it could be good. Sure yep,
<v Speaker 3>that Bes said, like, you know, Amazon Prime, they got
<v Speaker 3>hell of money to throw it shit, so let's see.
<v Speaker 1>Right, yeah exactly. I'm like, I'm willing to, like, you know,
<v Speaker 1>see how this goes. Maybe because maybe this becomes super
<v Speaker 1>successful and that leads to even more. Maybe we get
<v Speaker 1>a Mister Mosquito movie because this is so popular and
<v Speaker 1>it's like, give me any video game property you can,
<v Speaker 1>I would take that.
<v Speaker 2>That's what I want to see.
<v Speaker 1>All right, let's go ahead and get to the poll question.
<v Speaker 1>Now that we're done with the headlines. This pole question
<v Speaker 1>is from yesterday and it relates to something you might
<v Speaker 1>be doing today.
<v Speaker 2>Are you getting Silk Song this week? Yes or no?
<v Speaker 1>Your options? Fifty seven percent said no, forty three percent
<v Speaker 1>said yes. I think a lot of people in the
<v Speaker 1>comments might mention jan that it's on game Pass, so
<v Speaker 1>I'll just get it on there. So a lot of
<v Speaker 1>people are gonna get it and get it for a
<v Speaker 1>part of a subscription that they've already paid, and that's
<v Speaker 1>a good move. But we've seen people are also still
<v Speaker 1>just buying that thing as it's shut down the Steam
<v Speaker 1>and the shops earlier today due to the excitement. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I will play this game today, although you know, I
<v Speaker 1>don't feel like I need to like rush to cover
<v Speaker 1>it for a giant bomb, because like, oh, well, that'll
<v Speaker 1>be our coverage. Mike's going to be playing a ton
<v Speaker 1>of it on the site today and that can be
<v Speaker 1>sort of the main thrust of us covering it. I'm
<v Speaker 1>going to try to just enjoy this game and try
<v Speaker 1>to figure out why everyone likes Hollow Night so much.
<v Speaker 1>I bounced off of Hollow Night a couple of times now,
<v Speaker 1>and I.
<v Speaker 2>Don't I think it was more a me thing than
<v Speaker 2>the game thing.
<v Speaker 1>But still I'm like waiting for this game to really
<v Speaker 1>hook me and stop me from or maybe just becoming sticky.
<v Speaker 1>So I'm like, I cannot put this thing down because
<v Speaker 1>it's as good as everyone says.
<v Speaker 2>I know what's in there. I just need to act it.
<v Speaker 1>All right, we got a new poll question we should Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>let's get to that.
<v Speaker 2>Now. Does Double seven First Light look like something you'll
<v Speaker 2>want to play? Yes?
<v Speaker 3>No?
<v Speaker 1>Or I didn't watch the Double oh seven state of play.
<v Speaker 1>Be interesting to see how people are feeling about this one.
<v Speaker 1>It's so easy to put new license games sort of
<v Speaker 1>in a box of wait and see, and I imagine
<v Speaker 1>a lot of people are going to do that, Like
<v Speaker 1>I'll wait to see what the reviews say, what the
<v Speaker 1>word of mouth is. Let's see if they optimize the
<v Speaker 1>frame rate so it's not as bad as it looked
<v Speaker 1>in this presentation, that sort of thing. So let's see
<v Speaker 1>where people fall on which side of the fence for
<v Speaker 1>Double O seven First Light.
<v Speaker 2>We'll get the results of that poll.
<v Speaker 1>Talk about it here on Game mess Mornings tomorrow on
<v Speaker 1>Giant Bomb.
<v Speaker 2>Speaking to Giant Bomb, Jan, what do we have happening?
<v Speaker 3>Voicemail dump Truck is going to be a scoche earlier
<v Speaker 3>today because we are making way for the Silk Song
<v Speaker 3>along where Mike Manatti, as you mentioned, Grub is going
<v Speaker 3>to be playing a good junk at time Hollow Nights song.
<v Speaker 3>But before that, Grub for our premium folk out there,
<v Speaker 3>shouts out to all y'all Giant bomb dot com slash join.
<v Speaker 3>We are going to have a Discord town hall for
<v Speaker 3>all of our premium members. So if you're a premium member,
<v Speaker 3>get into the Giant Bomb Discord. It's a lovely place
<v Speaker 3>to hang out. I lurk there all the time and
<v Speaker 3>watch all of your conversations and I just giggle and
<v Speaker 3>lol to myself.
<v Speaker 1>I am looking forward to that. It's gonna be a
<v Speaker 1>good day of stuff. Everyone should should turn into all
<v Speaker 1>of it, turn in, tune into all of it. Looking
<v Speaker 1>forward to doing dumb Truck, the town hall and all that.
<v Speaker 1>I'm also looking forward to maybe pop popping in with
<v Speaker 1>Mike why he plays that game and seeing how he's
<v Speaker 1>fine hot pop pop in and see how he's enjoying
<v Speaker 1>Silk Song along.
<v Speaker 2>All right, let's see here we did the new poll question.
<v Speaker 2>We did that.
<v Speaker 1>I think we should probably remind people that you should
<v Speaker 1>vote on the Bomb twelve. You could find the link
<v Speaker 1>to the form in the blog post on giant bomb
<v Speaker 1>dot com. Maybe we can put it into the script
<v Speaker 1>as well for sure. I don't know do that. That'd
<v Speaker 1>be great.
<v Speaker 2>Thank you, Jan.
<v Speaker 1>It's also on my Blue Sky, so if you go
<v Speaker 1>to grebt WTF on Blue Sky. I just posted it there,
<v Speaker 1>so that's probably the easiest way to find it for
<v Speaker 1>a lot of people listening.
<v Speaker 2>And I want to hear a game you're playing this week.
<v Speaker 1>If it's something other than Silk Song, you might want
<v Speaker 1>to like say so, because otherwise I think Silk Song
<v Speaker 1>might dominate. But we'll find out tomorrow at the end
<v Speaker 1>of Game Mess Mornings exactly what the Bomb twelve is
<v Speaker 1>going to be for this week. All right, Jan, thank
<v Speaker 1>you so much hanging out with me today and talk
<v Speaker 1>about video games.
<v Speaker 2>Man, I really appreciate it.
<v Speaker 3>It's the only way to start a Thursday GREB.
<v Speaker 1>Thank you all for listening and watching and joining in.
<v Speaker 1>You are the best audience in gaming. Until next time,
<v Speaker 1>have a good one, take care of yourself and goodbye.
