You got to get that runner home and give Hoffman a two run cushion. I kind of had a bad feeling right when they didn't get that run home, and the bad feeling proved to be true. Yeah, I was kind of pulling for Blue Jays. I like the underdogs. Me too, but you know, they made a few base running blunders in that series. And much like when the Phillies were eliminated on fundamental mistakes, the little things matter. They don't kill you on May tenth. They don't kill you on June twenty ninth. They kill you in October.

It almost never happens, but the Phillies of course came out and said, we want to bring back Kyleis shwarbur jt Rio Monto, we would love to sign Ranger Suarez. They've said, although nobody really expects that to happen, they've said, we'd like to bring back Harrison Bader, we'll see about that. So today's show, we're going to go over some of the names on the free agent market, and we're gonna give our opinions on are they are these guys fits for the Phillies? Are they not fits for the Phillies, And just give people an idea of what's out there, because while they think and hope to resign Kyleigh Warbur and JT. Realmuto, it's free agency, so nothing is guarantee, gentlemen, nothing is guaranteed.

Speaker 1: I've had a lot of people say to me the last few days, are they going to sign Swarbi? I think they're gonna resign Swarba. I'm really nervous much Warbur And I said, I know they really really want to sign them, but who knows, So they have to have backup options. Same thing on all of our social media channels. So guys, let's start at Catcher. They want to bring back j T. Let's say somebody offers him a big three year deal or somebody loses there you know, goes even crazier and gives them a four year deal, and the Phillies go, oh my gosh, we've got no catcher. If you looked at the list of free agent catchers, we're gonna get to trade. We're gonna do a trade episode later this week, so we're not going to talk about trade options today. We're gonna stick to free agency. The free agent catching options are not that great. Salvador Prez is at the top of the list, but he's got a club option that's going to be picked up right after him. Let's talk about the maybe the next two best guys in the list, Victor Carrattini Danny Janssen. Either those guys give you any flow.

Speaker 3: Oh now, Jansen gives me a little bit of a defensive flow and carr Teeny a little offensive flow. But as far as an everyday catcher, I mean, you're basically given the job to a guy like Marshawan and having those guys fill in and help out. That's how I feel about that. I'd rather go with Marshawn, and I sort of like Marshan if.

Speaker 3: Maybe that's how you get a little bit younger on your team. You got to have a lot of faith in this young man because he just really I mean, while he stayed healthy pretty much all year this year, just don't know whether he'll be able to be healthy enough to play a full season. Can he catch a hundred games in the major leagues? Can he catch one hundred and ten games in the major leagues? And how much of a drop off is it offensively, defensively and running the staff wise.

Speaker 3: He's grown, He's grown up a little bit, and I think that he's done. He did a good job in the backup role. But is he the guy you want to rely on to try to win a championship.

Speaker 2: I feel like JT's coming back. I think there's probably huge mutual interest. I know, we we know there's a lot of interesting team standpoint. But I think he likes it here. I think he likes he has a home in clear Water, and I think he wants to make it work here. I do think there's going to be playing on him. If he doesn't come back, you might have to explore a trade. But you know, march On could be the guy. But I still think come opening day JT is back here. That's the way I feel like it's going to go to.

Speaker 5: What you think about whether, say JT has offered a three year deal at fifteen million dollars year by the Phillies and a four year deal at thirteen million dollars a year by some other club, Where's he going to go?

Speaker 1: I think he would come back to Philly. I do, I do think he I do. I do think he likes it here. But you know, I was thinking about this the other day. You know, nowadays, players are signed based off what you know they might do in the future. But I feel like the Phillies might have to kind of show him, give him a little bit of extra glue, even though his offensive numbers are down, because of everything he means to his team and kind of what he has done for this team, and to kind of maybe go back on you know, what teams do nowadays, Like I said, they don't pay for the past. They pay for the president or the future more than anything else. But I think in a case like JT, you might have to give him a little bit more money to you know, if the team does go four years. But I think he wants to say I agree with Jim, I think he wants to stay.

Speaker 3: Here's my thing, though, and I lived it as a GM where I went that extra year on a guy like Chewch, I went that extra year on a guy like Jimmy Rollins, and it ended up putting this back a little bit. And you know, we saw what the you know, eight to ten year drought was about. And part of it was because some of these guys started to break down and not able to play to their abilities of those contracts, and it was.

Speaker 2: And I hear you on that, but it's tough when you have these expectations and you have Zach Wheeler, Trey Turner, Bryce Harper talking three hundred million dollar contracts. We're talking forty two million a year for Zach Wheeler. We're talking they are still in world series or bust mode because they are so top heavy at the you know, the high end of their payroll. They almost can't take that step back, not yet, not for a good while actually, And the rock in the hard places. There's these expectations and you need to maintain them with your your personnel by bringing some of these guys back. But the downsize, the downside is you are getting very very old.

He has suggested he would be willing to do it in the past for the right bat. It's got to be somebody good. He ain't going he going back to the outfield for Carlos Santana. No disrespect for Carlos Santana, but you know what I'm saying here, guys.

The number one guy in the last segment is the Alonzo thirty one years old, that at two seventy two, that this season thirty eight home runs, one hundred and twenty six RBIs in eight seventy one ohps oh, and he bats right handed, and the Phillies could really use them right big right handed bat in the middle of that lineup. Probably a long shot, guys, But what do we think.

Speaker 3: Not that long of a shot. If Kyle Schwarber doesn't come back. I think he's somebody that they would probably target close to the top of the ticket just because he fills all those boxes. And if he doesn't, you know, and if he doesn't play first base, he can DH and they can actually rotate the dhs. This way, they can go ahead and rotate, you know, Harper into that DH slot as he gets a little bit longer of tooth, they can bounce back and forth.

Speaker 3: There's some who might think that this might be a better signing to have him for five years at the right handed slot. And even a Kyle Schwarberg, even as much as Kyle Schwarber has you know, impacted and what he means to the community here, I think that the people still would love the polar He's a guy that has some personality. He's obviously knows how to handle a big city and a big market. Hasn't gotten to that pinnacle and either have the Phillies as of late, but a really interesting option. If Schwarber does not sign back, and I think he's probably a pretty high level target for them, I would think, yeah.

Speaker 2: Completely agree. This is the guy that gives me big flow. I would love it if they opened up the checkbooks and figured out a way to bring Schwarber back and bring him with Harper, maybe giving you a couple of years in right field. But I don't see that happening. I just don't see another contract like that. I guess you never know, but where they are payroll payroll wise, it's hard for me to see. And so many of these names we're going to consider is dependent on what happens with Kyle schwarm and what happens on the trade front, what guys they can move, you know, Alec Bohm in particular at third base. But yeah, I'm a big Peter, a Lonzo fan. He posts, he plays all the time, he's got some personality. I think the fans would love him, and he produces. He's like he's like Harmon Killer Brews, like a modern day Harmon Killer Brew from the right side, drives in a shitload of runs, and I think he'd be a great fit to give you a right handed bat behind Harper. But in terms of just you know that one guy and all, he brings a lot of flow. But I don't know if it happens, if if they're successful in executing their priority, which is Kyle Schwarber and bringing him back, and I have no problem with that. I love what he's done for this team, and I love what he can continue to do for this team, and I believe he will continue to be a very productive for that for the Phillies.

Speaker 1: I remember in March of twenty twenty two of the Phillies signed Kyle Schwarber, and then Dave Dombrowski made a really strong pitch to John Middleton said you know, we can go out and said get Nick Castiano. So we can go out and get Nick Castianos, and so they added some payroll there. I think this is different though, of course I'm just saying, yeah, that it has happened the past where And you know, Ruben, I remember you did that with Cliff Lee. You had Pat Gillick kind of work one over on David Montgomery, and you guys made your pitch and you guys got them the David to sign.

So you know, I'm sure David be like, hey, John, can we go out and get Pee Alonzo too? If they bring back Schwarber, Probably unlikely, so other other free agent first basement of the market.

Speaker 3: I just I did want to ask this question to you guys both, would you bring back Kyle Schwarber for five years at one hundred and fifty million dollars or would you sign Pete Alonzo at five years for the same sort of money maybe.

Speaker 2: Just based on what he's done so far in this town and I we've talked about this throughout the summer. We think that bat speed is going to hold up and he's going to be productive. I probably would lean toward Schwarber even though he's you know, we mentioned the left handed bat thing. I just love what he brings. And that's not a slight at Pete at all.

Speaker 2: You know, membership has its privileges, and Kyle Schwarber has been here, and I have a hard time, you know, envisioning this team without him.

Speaker 1: His his influence on that clubhouse is just tremendous. I mean, we've seen him gather guys after bad loss as bad slumps, and he really is the glue in a lot of ways in that clubhouse. You know. I've said before, I think he's maybe the best leader in that clubhouse since I've been covering the team. I just feel like the way he he handles adversity and helps the young guys handle adversity and just talks to guys and leads by example and leads vocally. Again, I don't, I can't. I'm I can't say Pete can't do that or other guys can't step up. But I know Kyle Schwarber does do it. And so you take that with the forty plus home run power, and uh yeah, so I would I would probably lean lean withh Leana Schwarber.

Speaker 1: I had a couple of people asking about Reees Hoskins has got a mutual option. I'm sure that will be declined by the Brewers. I don't see that happening. You know that, you know, it just doesn't seem like that would be a fit. Reece coming back to the philis. So okay, let's go to second base. And second you say, why second base? They've got Bryson Stott. And this is just in case, you never know what's going to happen. Maybe they get an absolutely insane deal for Bryson Stott, they move him, and they can't say no to it. So now they need a second basement, second basement of the market. Labor Torres is probably at the top of the list. Is that What do you guys think about that name? And Kate In the event they make a trade and it involves a Bryson Stott.

Speaker 2: He had a really good year. He had a really good year. I don't know that I'm going to spend that money when I have at Mundo Muno Sosa might try to ride that and plug in other ways. So I'm not sure i'd make a free agent score there.

Speaker 3: I know that in New York he handled it just okay, but when he went to sort of a smaller market, I think he handled it better. I think he's better off being a big fish in a small pond in some ways. And I see it like a team, and I don't know if they're going to spend, but a team like Cleveland, maybe you'll see Toronto Blue Jays jump on him. That's a possibility because I don't know if they're bringing Bobachette back, and it looks like Jimenez will probably play short for them.

Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of a long shot, but I wanted to at least mention one guy at every position. So let's go to third base. Now, third base is interesting because of what happened last off season Alec Boom. The Phillies tried to trade him. They they didn't really get what they wanted or you know, the interest they wanted, and so they kept them. It would not be surprised if they traded him this offseason as they try to shake things up. And so there are some very interesting names a free agent third baseman. Again, I don't know how they fit in the budget, if they bring back schworburn Real Muto, but let's start with Alex Bregman. Alex Bregman can opt out of the deal. He will had a good year for the Red Sox. He's a winner. He'd be good in that clubhouse. What do you got, Jimmy?

Speaker 2: Definitely I have flow for Alex Bregman. But you know, again, I just don't know if they can afford that big ticket or if they'll do that big ticket. He'd give you a right handed bat. He'd give you a lot of contact, a lot of things this lineup needs. And there's also the situation where are you convinced you can trade Bone. I know it's talked about a lot, but he's a year away from free agency and he leveled off this year. There's only so many contracts that you can move on that team. It's a very inflexible roster. He'd be a very logical guy to move. But I don't know that teams are going to be knocking down your door for him, do you.

Speaker 8: I'm not sure whether it be teams knocking down the door. I think he's a movable object, there's no question about that. I don't know that you're going to get the value they might want, But the value that you gain from moving him is the value of signing a guy like Bregman, and so that's where your value comes from. I guess I have heavy flow on Alec Alex Bregman.

Speaker 3: Just because of the pedigree, what he's done in the game, what he can do defensively, offensively, the right handed bat, the quality of the bat, different sort of makeup to the lineup with him in it, hitting anywhere from one through five in the lineup, anywhere, protecting Harper for instance, or protecting Schwarber for instance. Again, I'm not sure if they can bring both of them on, but it would be sure fun to watch it happen.

You know somebody DH boom and Harper DH play first flipping around, I mean as a replacement for Schwarber, I don't know, just just thinking sort of, you know, trying to think out of the box a little bit and see if there's other ways to sort of maneuver the lineup around.

Speaker 1: What about to Ahano Suarez? A lot of people wanted him, excuse me at the trade deadline. It don't happen. He's a big bat, not a you know bet at two twenty eight forty one home runs, one hundred and eighteen. RBI struggled a little bit with Seattle, had that big Grand Slam in the ALCS though.

Speaker 2: I mean he hit home runs with Seattle, but he man, he did not hit for any kind of average. He hit under two hundred. I again, the threat, the power, I mean, he's high strikeout, he's streaky. He gets on these strikeout streaks, but he also gets on these home run binges. A I don't know if it's he's gonna cost less than Bragman. I'd rather have Bragman if it came down to it at third base again so much who just hinges on what's gonna happen with Schwarmer because I just don't know if they can do another payday that these guys are going to be looking for. But if I knew I could get to the Suarez that he was this year in Arizona, yeah, i'd have. I think that would look good behind Bryce Harper, right.

Speaker 3: I guess to me it's whether or not k Long can convince the front office that they can make him a little bit more complete a hitter, because if you don't, then you're looking at about the same swort of guy. What their problems have been over the years with the strikeouts. You've been trying to get guys who make a little contact.

Speaker 3: This guy's at what two hundred hits a year. He ain't gonna walk a lot, but he'll put it that sucker in play and he let the ball the other way. He's a baseball player. He's got great pedigree. Uh, he was almost a world champion this year. I know it was like one play away from being a world champion, but.

Speaker 2: Two positions. He could play three positions, no question, But you're not going to probably move his best thing.

Speaker 10: He's better off staying out of short stop because he's he's not doesn't quite fit the pedigree of being a short I know he played it and did a pretty good job of it, but I mean the metrics play out on him and the eye test as far as shortstop is concerned, I'd rather have Turner short with the way Turner played, and I'd probably go with with the set at third base. I think he's a really really interesting option there.

Speaker 1: I love that idea. I mean, you talk about a guy a team that needs to put the ball in playmore. A guy hit three eleven this year, so and you said, like two hundred hits the season that changes the dynamic of Atlantup. One last third baseman I want to mention is Munny Taka for Ekami from Japan. He's the big triple crown winner over in Japan. And for what it's worth, I just want to mention this Nikan sports report of this this week or last week that the Yankees, Mets, Phillies, and Mariners are among the teams that can make a big push for him. Which take that for what it is. I don't know, but all the big money teams, all the big money teams figure right, imagine, you know, he's got big time power supposedly, you know, based off his production in Japan, but he also has been striking out a lot more and walking a lot less.

I mean they basically Dave Dombrowski basically said, well, Max Kepler's not coming back, but we've got Justin Crawford ready. So take that for what. I scorre you. Brandon marsh obviously as well. So there are some outfielders out there, everybody. I don't know where we want to start. Guys can just jump in wherever. Some of the names that come to mind. Cody Bellinger, well, let's start. Kyle Tucker is the big the big fish. You've got Cody Bellinger. You know, they got Ramon La Ramon and Loreano. He's got a six and a half million dollar club option. I think the Potters are going to pick that up. You know, jim Is Jimmy liked him at the trade deadline. But any outfields out there, Tucker Bellinger that would fit if Sarber doesn't come back, or would fit otherwise, and you kind of like.

There's I mean, there's some good guys out there, but if they're not going to bring back, have you guys changed your opinion on Rangers' chances of resigning with the Phillies or do you still think that that's a long shot. I think Scott Morris is his agent, and he's gonna he's gonna pitch him as one of the best, if not the best free agent pitcher on the market, and he's gonna say, listen, you know, yeah, okay, he has he hasn't pitched thirty three, made thirty three. He starts in the season, but when he's healthy and if he manages innings like the Dodgers did it with all their guys, you know, this guy is literally one of the greatest postseason performers in baseball history by based off of era. Do you want that guy? He's going to say to those teams, do you want to win a World Series? Then you want Ranger Suarez at one hundred and fifty innings in twenty twenty six and pitching his you know, butt off in the postseason. So I think he took us just took us off. It took us off.

I know you want to have more depth, but you're looking at Wheeler, Lozardo, Sanchez, Nola, you still have Taiwan Walker, and you got mister Andrew Painter. So that's six guys right there.

You know, you make ten starts, you get an extra one hundred grand or whatever whatever it probably.

You have Matt Strom, you have Jose Alvarado almost certainly going to be back based off of what Dave dem Browski said. You have a Ryan Kirkring, you know who I am missing. Tanner Banks is back there, but they could probably use another arm. You can always use another bullpen, another two, especially when you kind of bullpen play out again. You watch the bullpen play out this off this postseason again, it was kind of like a god, can they go? How did they get from the starter straight to Doran right now? Or Strong to Deran Strom was pretty decent. But some of the relief pitchers that are out there. Robert Suarez, he can opt out. He's got two years left on a forty six million dollar deal. But I would think if Robert Suarez does that, he's going to want to close somewhere. You have Ryce Ella, Gladstias had a nice season in Atlanta. He's thirty, he'll be thirty six next year. And I'm just gonna throw out a few more names that kind of interesting if you like bounce back guys. They tried that with Jordan Romano last year and it did not work. Ryan Helsley last offseason and be like, oh yeah, maybe they traded for Ryan Helsley man. He was terrible with the Mets, the seven to zero area with the Mets. Devin Williams mister change up. He was not good for the Yankees. He had an e array of four to seven nine. So you have some of those, Any of those guys interest you before we get to a couple other names.

The next closest pitcher in Major League Baseball is Tim Hill at just over three feet off the ground. So this guy is one point seven feet lower than Tim Hill, the lowest Phillies release point. Just to put it, kind of put this number into perspective, is Aaron Nola at five point zero five? Of course, I mean Kyle Rodgers is off the ground. That's the guy I would love to have.
