Speaker 1: Yes, So on today's episode of Reality with the King, we have to recap the season premiere of the Real Housewife of Salt Lake City. I want to be able to really talk about this show in a way that doesn't recap scene by scene, because when I do recaps of shows, I don't want to go through scene by scene. You guys seen it. We ain't got to do that. I want to have an overall discussion about this season premiere. Okay, on a scale of one to ten, drum roll, please, I give the premiere a seven, and hear me out. It's not that it was a bad premiere, because it wasn't. I love the new girl Bronwin. I think she's a star. She's beautiful, fashionable. We'll get into her a little bit later. But you know, the thing for me, rain Drops is the fact that I didn't feel anything. I watched it and I was like, Okay, it was a premiere that had these girls argue at a dinner table.

Speaker 2: I've seen that before. Do you know what I mean? Like, I okay, they had a dinner party and they argue at a dinner party. Okay, got it?

Speaker 1: And the words of Miranda Priestley from A Devil's Re a Praduct, it's not necessarily groundbreaking. And for me, I'm gonna give y'all my real opinion as if I don't do that anyway. But for me, I felt like all the ladies were being performative. Do not get me started a hurricane ang and her scroll who the fuck? Ooh excuse me, I'm sorry, listen. I know some of you guys are Christians or even Mormons.

Speaker 1: Listen, I'm gonna use the premiere of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City to have a real discussion about the state of reality television and how people are doing things for moments instead of being the moment. I like Hurricane Angie. When Tamra Judge, who's a friend of mine, her and Teddy another friend of mine, on their podcast, they called me because Cynthia Bailey, another friend of mine, justin Key Key and Angie happened to be with them and Aedgie, Edgie is aware of who I am at my podcast, she said, oh god, it's Carlos Cake. I've heard all the things you have to say about the show, and I'm like, Aedgie, I like you, but you are Hurricane Angie. You come in hot, you breathe into the scene, and you go with the windblows. That's why I call her Hurricane Angie. You know, the weather man says a forecast. It's desperate and to bring a scroll inside of your hermez bag was just late and tired. Four o'clock in the morning, late and tired. It's looking for a moment instead of being the moment. And that's the problem that I have with the premiere. Let's have a real conversation. All of the girls said to themselves and to each other, we have to show the network, the producers, and the world that we do not need Monica Garcia for the show to be great. They all were performing like they were at the halftime Super Bowl, Okay, rehearsing with Kendrick Lamar. It was a rehearsal. It was Dance Moms. Where is Abby Lee Miller when you need her? These ladies were performing. The only one to me who was being themselves in this premiere, and I'm being honest and.

Speaker 1: To me, the rest of the girls were being performative and they had to try hard to prove that they do not need Monica Garcia. Monica Garcia was the elephant in the room, okay, because it showed that they need to prove that they're coming together.

Speaker 1: I did not want to watch last season's Salt Lake City because the force multiplier Jen Shaw left the show.

Speaker 1: You know, she got handcuffed and you know, play guilty and did some crime and now she's paying the time. Okay, I'm just waiting for the Hulu you know, true crime series.

Speaker 1: But everybody said to me, my rain drops and my friends, Okay, you have to watch the Real House of Salt Lake City. It's amazing, and they all said, this chick Monica is bringing it. So I watched it last season and I was so into it. And the reason why I was so into last season after not even trying to watch it is because I felt like, oh my gosh.

Speaker 1: It felt so real to me, and what Monica brought to the show was so rich, and I felt like all the ladies were being real because they really either loved her or hated her. And listen, you don't have to be a fan of Monica's to appreciate the fact that she had all of these girls clock in. All of these girls put in their time card, clocked in, worked over time, got have time pay like they they they got bonuses, do you know what I mean? Like she allowed them to clock in. And Lisa Barlow's bestse's party, although gorgeous, was not giving to me. It was predictable. It was We're going to have her dinner party. We're going to distract the audience by having this.

Speaker 1: Shout out to the editor who had their hands onto this episode. The editing of this show, the way it opened up the flashbacks, it was now that was a ten out of a ten. It was, in my opinion, it was one of the best editing I've seen on a premiere.

Speaker 1: Going to stay tuned for the entire season because I want to feel something. I want to feel it injected in my veins. I want to feel the reality of these women being themselves and showing up as themselves and allowing us to appreciate their authenticity. Hurricane Angie. That had to be the most cringe worthy moment I have ever seen in the history of the Real Housewives franchise.

Speaker 1: Do you see Kathy Hilton having her Christmas party and those women who can afford an ermez bag taking out a scroll to read a girl that's not reality. First of all, I can't believe that she did it. I would have cut that scene out. I would have been like, what are we doing here? It's not exciting, it's not real. Kenya Icon legend More season five of the Real Housewives of Atlanta showing up to Nini's Shoe Dazzle party dressed up in a costume as Phedra. That's comedy, that's funny. We're in on the joke, Like Kenya, was it being serious? Kenya having the butt pads and the fishnet bathing suit walking in with Miss Lawrence like that was funny. It was comedy. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously. Showing up with the scroll, it's just cringey. So that threw me off. And then let me talk about something I did like. I really like Bronwyn. I think she's a star. She's a mixture between Mia Thornton on Potomac and Derete first season Derete, Let's be very clear because Derit hasn't dereted since her first season. Let's have that real conversation another day. Bronwyn is a mixture of Deret's first season on Belly Hills and Mia Thornton, who, by the way, has become the face of Potomac, but we'll talk about that later. Braunman as a star shot out to the casting person who cast her. She's perfect, she's amazing, she's beautiful, she's a kept wife, She's a star.

Speaker 1: I would have loved to invested in what her home life was like in the first episode. Honestly, I would have loved to see her at home. Let me see the husband, let me see the stepchildren, let me see the stepchild who is six months older than she is. I want to see her family life. I want to see her closet. I want to see her dynamic. I want to see that. I don't care to see Whitney arguing with Meredith and Lisa over a podcast interview. We had nice things last season. There was not one filler episode last season. We have real conversations, we had real receeats, we had real moments, we have real arguments, we had real shade. And now we are stuck with Hurricane Angie giving props the same way drusep Dora brought Doggie treats bringing props. Can you legend icon More is the queen of props. Stop trying to make fetch happen.

Speaker 1: Over bath bowls, and you stole my idea of the bath bowl and I'm mad at you because of that. And then Whitney's in the hot seat at the table, Lisa Barlow gets up and screams at her in front of her group of women. That was so performative as well, because one thing, because I do watch the show, so hear me out the real Lisa Barlow. She is so put together and classy, and she's aware of her surroundings when she's in a group setting outside of her cast. That the real Lisa Barlow, who spent so much money to make that dinner party look gorgeous, and in fact it did be real Lisa Barlow would never allow herself to get up at a dinner party of her own event and argue with a woman across from her. She's too put together and she's too conscious of her surroundings and her brand. Now, if she was around the girls on a cash trip, yes, but not that Lisa Barlow.

It is unlimited funds, it gets charged back, you get points, You get to charge that bitch to a trip to Pari. You know what I'm saying. Like, the woman is stunning. Lisa Barlow is so conscious of her image that when Jen Shaw got pulled over by the FEDS while she was on the Sprinter two seasons ago, and she whispered to her brand manager.

Speaker 1: So when Lisa Barlow gave the halftime show performance of The Evening, I'm like, that's not who she is.

Speaker 1: The real Lisa Barlow would have taken Winny aside and say, hey, can I talk to you for a second, because I'm not gonna sit up here and argue in front of all these rich women at my event and embarrass myself. She would have had a one on one. So when she's arguing to Whitney, I'm like, that's not the Leasta I fell in love with. And you guys know I'm right. I'll just give you a freaking example.

Speaker 1: And then Angie, Angie, I really do like you, so please don't get offended when I say this. Angie is the poster child of I'm here to save my job. And I loved Angie last season because I said this before. To me, she was this animated cartoon character. You know what I mean, Like, do y'all remember when she was like running down like the hall when they went on the cast trip and she had her glasses and her heels and her bathing suit like I thought she was so animated and authentic. And I feel like the problem with the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. I feel like nobody's authentic except Mary. I think Mary does what she wants to do and because Mary has not changed since season one. She says the most off color comments, and she doesn't mind removing herself from a scene when this new woman Britney came to sit between her and Bronwin and called Bronwin's amazing, gorgeous fifteen thousand dollars heart shaped shaw baby and cause it a costume. Then said to marry you a hoarder, you know, like Mary said, bitch, I'm out of here. And that's why we love her, That's the reason why we see it for her. I don't feel like the cast is being authentic anymore, and that's the sad part. And I'm not certain that this season can't survive with Almonica. I'm sorry. Let me tell y'all something about reality TV one oh one. You always need a force multiplier to bring out the best in these women. Kyle Richards is a force multiplier because she's able to get every woman activated and come out unscathed. Kyle Richards knows that her job is to get all of those women to be honest and real and make sure that once they become uncomfortable, she comes in and tries to make things right. That's who Kyle Richards is. The other force multiplier is Tamra Judge, who's able to poke and prod to get the best moments out of people. Okay, there's not a force multiplier on the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. There's not a Queen Bee. To me, I'm not sure who the face of this franchise is. I strongly do not think it's Heather at all. If I'm being very honest, I think Lisa Barlow had the best chance of being the force multiplier because she's able to be entertaining and seeing, and she's and she and she's capable of asking the questions. I think Meredith has an opportunity to be a force multiplier. She's another one who is gorgeous, and she's funny, and I like watching her, and I believe she also is able to be authentic because I've seen it in the past. I do not believe that Heather can't be authentic. Whitney can't be the leader because they don't respect her. Mary ain't got time to be there all the time, and Mary doesn't care to clock in to get these girls to work. Mary is like, I'm here to do my job, and when I do it, I'm out of here right giving my happy meal, my McDonald's cheeseburger with a small fries, a milkshake, and a possible Sunday with nuts on it.

Speaker 1: What Monica did last season that that show needed was she made everybody work. And I thought that show could not survive without Jenshaw. So when they cast Monica Garcia, I gagged because I was like, wait a second, you mean to tell me you have somebody arguably that can hold her own and gave us personal story, personal story with her mother, sleeping with her brother in law, like being flawed, you know what I mean, Like that's what we want to see. I don't care about a podcast interview where she called you a villain. I don't care about bath balls. And then when they all were like, well, Whitney, you know you're always lying on people, blah blah blah, and then they had like a montage on them like coming out Whitney, and then Lisa's like you can leave. Girls.

And maybe you're the audience that they're catering to.
