The Choice Architecture of Refuge: From Sitting to Reading to Feeling to Faith | Ajahn Kovilo

Clear Mountain Monastery Project

In this talk given on New Year's Eve 2025, Ajahn Kovilo speaks about finding a healthy and mature relationship to taking refuge in the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Saṅgha; further discussing the Eight Streams of Merit discussed in Anguttara Nikāya 8.39 (https://suttacentral.net/an8.39/en/sujato?lang=en) that are "overflowing merit, overflowing goodness, [that] nurture happiness and are conducive to heaven, ripening in happiness and leading to heaven, [that] lead to what is likable, desirable, agreeable, to welfare and happiness" namely:

1) taking refuge in the Buddha

2) taking refuge in the Dhamma

3) taking refuge in the Saṅgha

4) refraining from killing

5) refraining from stealing

6) refraining from sexual misconduct

7) refraining from lying

8) refraining from intoxicants.
