Welcome back to Katching Up With Katie 💛🐴

Somehow this episode starts with haircuts and hats and ends with us planning a full black tie gala. We accidentally create a new life goal today and it is a big one. A future BOTH (Because Of The Horses) fundraiser event complete with gowns, cowboy hats, a red carpet moment and maybe even a trumpet announcement at the top of the stairs. It gets dramatic fast in the best way.

We also catch up on real ranch life. Taz the goat daddy is back to visit Blossom, Honey and Bee. We talk through foaling season plans and how we want to level up the content this year. And then there is the wildest update from Blue Bell. She gave us 79 oocytes in one aspiration which is almost unheard of. We break down what that means and what comes next.

There is cozy barn energy, winter vibes, plenty of laughing and of course some courtroom teasing because that saga is still coming. Wigs may already be ordered. Maybe.

So we both at the same time said somebody and we went very different routes. I said,
0:06
"You look very Nirvana right now," referencing Kurt Cobain, and she went Keith Urban. I was
0:14
mostly going off the hair, because I don't think Keith Urban has a mustache. Does he have a goatee?
0:22
No, he has just the little soul patch. Not even a soul patch, just the little triangle under the lip. But anyway, you look good. I like the long hair.
0:32
Thank you. I know you got a haircut and everything, but are you good with this length or are you going to chop it soon?
0:39
It will be a wild card. It will go day by day. My thought today, as I was driving over to the barn,
0:47
was it is getting pretty cold. I will probably get lazy and let it go another five or six months.
0:54
But a few days ago I went, "It does look tough coming out of a beanie."
1:00
And I think I saw it in a beanie and got a little more comfortable with it. Yeah. It is a little bit easier to handle than summer.
1:08
Yeah, when it is just hot. I am starting to go through a season where I am sick of wearing hats. I want to have the option to not wear a hat,
1:21
and my current length of hair is just… Your current length of hair is great for no hats. You just have to put effort in. I know. And I do not. It has been so long since
1:31
I did not wear hats, I do not even know what effort to put in. I do not know how to do it.
1:36
Well, you need some texturizing pomade. What? You need Google comments. Do a little Google comment. Little TikTok.
1:45
I do not think you are telling the truth. I do not think that you wearing hats is bad though. No, no. I do not think it is bad. I just feel so pigeonholed.
1:53
Go on TikTok. "How to style men's straight hair." I feel like hats are a great way to express yourself. Yes, they are a way to express
2:07
myself and I have always used them as such. But sometimes I want to feel distinguished.
2:14
Sometimes I want to feel a little nicer. I long for there to be some reason for us
2:21
to go to a gala. I long for there to be some reason… like the NFR is happening this week,
Gala??
2:28
the National Finals Rodeo, and I was watching TikToks earlier. They do it for everybody,
2:34
but I was watching the barrel racers, and the top 15 ladies that are barrel racing and competing come out on stage wearing evening wear, like evening gowns and whatnot.
2:42
I am like, I want to go somewhere where we have to wear something like that.
2:48
Let us do it. Let us do it. Like where though? We could find something. You do not want to wear an evening gown? No, I do.
2:56
Oh, you do? Yeah, it would be fun. Would you be… what is it called where it is like a tea length where it is eight inches up,
3:06
or would you do full gown? Full gown.
3:11
Would you be the guy that wears your black cowboy hat with your black suit, like black tie?
3:20
Depends on what we were going to. The situation. Yeah. I would very much do that if it was the NFR.
3:34
Yeah. What kind of thing could we come up with that we go to that pertains to what we do? You know what I am saying? There is probably not going to
3:44
be a lot, because there are events throughout the year, but it is cocktail hour max, I would say,
3:53
not what we would be wanting from it. Yeah.
4:01
I do not think there is anything that is straight up formal attire. Yeah. Calling.
4:08
I mean… no, we could not do that. December balls in Nashville.
4:15
Like a fur coat, by the way. So my mom and dad, with some friends, went to the symphony
4:25
in Nashville last minute. She comes over and is like, "Hey, I bought some outfits today
4:30
because I had nothing to wear to the symphony. Can I come over and let you help me choose?" We are like, "Sure." We are all in the shop. And I am pointing this at you, Terry, so I hope
4:42
you watch this. Why come over if you are not going to listen? Why put on a parade if we are like,
4:51
"That one. That is the one. Yes, that one looks amazing," and you are going to be like… then
4:56
come up with ten reasons it is not the one. Do not do that to me. Just wear what you want
5:02
to wear. Yeah. So she inherited, not from any of our family, but from a friend that is now
5:13
deceased. She passed away. She inherited this coat. She has never bought a fur coat ever,
5:18
but she inherited this floor length black mink coat and then she ended up wearing that.
5:24
And I am like, "Yeah, that is the thing to wear to that. That is the time to pull out the mink coat. Why did you never tell me?" Anyway, she looked great. But we
5:35
spent time analyzing these outfits, right? Why was that not an option?
5:41
I do not know. Because then she had my dad calling, and my dad is like, "I like the one your mom likes." I am like, I am sure you do, Matt.
5:49
And so they had fun, they had a great time, she looked great. Nashville Ballet. This at the Schermerhorn. Yes.
5:59
March 7th. Ballet Ball is Nashville Ballet's most elegant annual fundraiser,
6:07
bringing together over 600 of the city's most prominent philanthropists and patrons of the arts for an elaborate black tie event. So we have to get money to get an invite.
6:17
No, but it is 800 a ticket. I see. So you do have to make a contribution to the cause.
6:25
Can you… I want to… can you scroll through? 800 per ticket plus a contribution. No, no. That is the entry contribution. You are buying an 800 dollar ticket.
6:33
That is your contribution. Most black tie events are galas in support of something.
7:57
So I cannot just dress up to watch. I have to dress up and then go socialize with people.
8:07
No, you… most of the time black tie events are going to be social gatherings where
I want to host a gala
8:13
people with a lot of money can wear really nice clothes, show up, mingle amongst each other, and then give their money to a good cause. And then the cause puts on this really nice
8:24
event that everyone dresses up for, and it is like this little dance amongst everyone.
8:31
But if you are just going to the ballet, everyone is not going to be…
8:38
You still dress nice. You still dress nice, but you could probably wear what you would wear to a cocktail hour versus a black tie event.
8:49
Okay. New goal for within the next… New goal in five to seven years.
8:58
Okay. Because I have to have the place to host it. Here is not the place to host it. We can do it in four or less.
9:06
You think four or less? I think four or less. I do not know what it is yet, but I am going to host a gala. Let us do it. We will figure out what it is for.
9:14
Yeah. But unless it is a cowboy hat, you are out.
9:19
If you have a hat on… You have to dress the part. Yeah. Okay. I did not know that I had that dream, and now I have that dream. I want to host a gala
9:28
so that we have a reason to dress up every year. My idea that I said we could not do is,
9:35
if we want a black tie red carpet type event, we could write and make a movie and premiere it.
9:46
Okay. Do we have to act in it? We do not have to act in it. We can find actors and actresses, or we can write it, produce it, get the actors and actresses, make it,
10:00
premiere it, black tie event. Isn’t Matt making a movie? No, it is in his head. Not that I know of. We both have partially written movie ideas in our heads.
10:14
You know what? We missed our opportunity. What was our opportunity? I got nominated for a TikTok award and it is an award show.
10:24
Where? When? We are going to be gone. Could you send someone in your place? I still just do not see that being the
10:38
level of formal that I am wanting. What you are wanting is a gala. You want a fundraiser. That is
10:44
what you are wanting. So you have to pay up. There is no middle ground. There is no "fun
10:51
event to go hang out with your friends" that is black tie formal. That is fine. You request your wedding to be white.
10:58
I do not mind paying to go somewhere really nice to do this, but it is just like… you just have
11:06
to know people and get invited to this event because they know you have money to donate.
11:14
You do not have to be invited. Well, like the ballet gala, it is just 800 a ticket.
11:19
So you have to be… So it is not the ballet. No. But they are going to have… it is the gala in support of the ballet. They are going to have
11:27
people performing. They are going to put on a show for your ticket. But the reason the
11:33
whole thing is happening is not to go to the ballet. It is to support the ballet. Okay. Okay. Okay. We did get invited to the
11:39
University of Tennessee gala. When is that? I think it has already passed. It is gone.
11:45
We got invited to it and I do not know if that was cocktail
11:51
hour or if that was what we are talking about, but that was one of those things. Maybe I just need to start going to the things that I am…
11:58
The opera fundraiser here says it has live opera woven throughout the evening,
12:07
with a Spanish flair, an atmosphere of elegance, passion, and community.
12:12
I am also terrified that I would get there and there would be no food that I would like.
12:19
That is almost certainly going to happen. I just want to have my moment where I walk up
12:25
to the top of the stairs, and I have the dress of my dreams on, and my hair is done, and I am
12:32
feeling it. I take off my thing, I hand it over, everyone looks, and I walk down the stairs. You
12:37
know what I am saying? I want that. It is not going to happen. I feel like that is subtle spotlight. Subtle. Maybe a name announcement.
12:44
Yeah, subtle spotlight. "Catherine Vance," you know.
12:50
That is all I am asking for. Nothing too much. Could be arranged. If I have my own gala, I will have an announcer. Yeah.
12:58
With a little trumpet. Okay. Or it turns into The Office when Dwight had the garden party. You know that episode,
13:12
when he was announcing everyone and they just kept going back and forth so they had to announce them over and over again. Okay, we are having a gala.
13:21
Let us do it. What should we… okay. I understand we already have our scholarship going for Seven, all that good stuff.
13:29
Yeah. Let us think out of the box for what our gala should be for. So put that in the comments, what you think.
13:34
If we are going to make a goal of within five years hosting something, creating a fundraiser
13:41
type thing, what should be the cause, you know? Let us brainstorm on that. I mean,
13:47
we have five years, but would it need to be Because of the Horses?
13:55
Start our own foundation "Because of the Horses." We could, though, and focus on the wild horses
14:00
in the West and preserving their habitats and their ability to… we could start a nonprofit.
14:08
We could start a nonprofit. Start it up, and we can host charity events and galas. You know what we could
14:14
call it? BOTH. Because Of The Horses. They are like, "Are y’all going to the
Post Malone's horse
14:21
2028 BOTH Gala?" That is good. It is writing itself. That is good.
14:28
It is writing itself. Do we write our own song?
14:33
Yes. No. That goes along with the gala and then we perform it at the gala. No. I think maybe we pay
14:42
to have a really good live band. I think we write the song,
14:49
perform the song ourselves, but then at the gala we have a live band and… Here is the thing. When you dress classy and in black tie… or a quartet.
15:04
Okay. I was just thinking, you do not jam and dance, do you? Yeah, there is slow dancing.
15:15
It depends. I think it depends on what point of the night. We do not get a country band. No, we would get more of a…
15:24
I think in this scenario, where you are doing your own Tony-cover band, you can do whatever you want.
15:32
This is true. I guess you could set the precedence, the level of elegance of your thing.
15:38
What if I got… yeah, we could get Jelly Roll. I think Jelly Roll would be like, "You know what,
15:45
horses are cool, let us support them." Post Malone. And Matt has his connection. Oh, we have a connection.
15:52
We have a connection to Post Malone. Post Malone has a really cool horse.
15:57
Yes, named Ashtay. That is so cool.
16:03
Yeah, it is that gray horse right there. He bought it from out West. His name is Ashtay. What a cool horse. We could find people to play.
16:12
Yeah, for sure. I think we are going a little big, but I think we are not going big enough. Yeah. I do not think we are going big enough. Bigger than Jelly Roll
16:21
and Post Malone right now. They are big. I am thinking everything else needs to get that big too. Yeah. I think the other stuff we are not going big enough. The food.
16:32
I will be mixing my attire though with a squash blossom. I will wear a designer
16:39
floor length gown with a squash blossom. But you are thinking five to seven years. I
16:44
am like, we could do it in two. I do not think I have enough money for it. But I think we could. We will see. I think we start the foundation, do some stuff,
16:55
get some interest, get some sponsors, have a small introductory event in 2026 that is smaller scale.
17:03
Oh, you are thinking 2026. We have the first thing in maybe September
17:11
or October 2026. We have the first event, get some sponsors, roll into 2027 as the first gala.
17:21
Mind you, this all started because we want to wear dresses. Okay. And now we are starting
17:26
a nonprofit, but the thought behind it is still the cause, and we still support the cause, right?
17:34
And I think that if there was ever a time that the phrase "the ends justify the
17:46
means" made sense, it is this. You want to wear a dress. Let us find a way to save animals. Then let
17:53
us find a way to help the habitats of the earth. At the end of that road, we wear the dress. If we can accomplish that, then we get to wear the dress, we get to wear the suit. If all that flops,
Bye bye caramel apple treats
18:04
I do not think we deserve to wear the dress. We do not deserve to wear the suit. If we fail, then we just do not get to, right? So I think we have to help save
18:16
the animals and the world. I think if we can save the horses and the world, then we
18:23
should have a night where we get to dress up. What would a ridiculous cause be? It is like,
18:28
the cause is for horses who are ungroomed in the wild. We groom wild horses.
18:38
Just the most ridiculous title. Like, "For horses with pee pee tails. The yellow tails."
18:49
Oh yeah. I think we could do it though. And I think we could do a lot of good too. And wear dresses.
18:58
Yes. Yes. We have the end in sight. We have the end in sight. We just have to get there.
Fan Videos
19:04
Are you going to be the new nonprofit manager? Is that the new role?
19:12
Probably, yeah. The BOTH manager, because we are trying to expand. Manager of BOTH.Heard
19:27
it here first. That is a new goal. I do not think we are quite on Nate's timeline, but that is a new goal. And drop what you think our cause should be in the comments.
19:40
But let us take a little break here, okay? Pivoting not totally off of horses. If you did
19:47
not know, I have a treat bag with me and Trudy's picture on it with Tribute Equine Nutrition. I
19:53
have fed Tribute Equine Nutrition products, their grain, their treats for years now, and I have seen
20:00
such a benefit on my horses' health, their coats, their weight, their demeanor. They look great.
20:07
We came out with treats this year, and they are so fun. They are caramel apple treats, but they are leaving here soon. What?
20:14
Yeah, they are leaving here soon. They are going to be unavailable after December. So you have a couple weeks left of shopping. We will have that link in the description. There is free shipping
20:23
at the moment as well. So no extra shipping on a couple bags of treats. You can still get
20:29
them right now. After December, they are done. Now, we have some videos y'all tagged us in of
20:40
your horses trying them. There were way too many videos for us to show them all, but here are some
20:46
clips. Hope you enjoy for a minute. [Clips play]
How to Oocytes work?
22:00
Thank you all for sending those videos. I have reposted so many of them and it is so
22:06
fun getting to see your horses enjoy those treats. My horses have loved them so much. So it is sad to see them go. If you pester Tribute enough, maybe we could do something in the future.
22:17
Thank y'all for purchasing. Again, you have like two more weeks. Go ahead and shop at the link in the description and get you some free shipping. And yeah, I just got a phone call while we were
22:28
watching one horse loving them. Loving them. So I just got a phone call. We had to take a
22:34
brief intermission because my dad was calling. So Blue Bell, my blue roan cow, we just sent
22:41
her to be aspirated to get oocytes from her to do IVF because I had a buyer who wanted
22:50
specifically her embryos with Justice Herbal. We used his sexed semen on hand. Normally you get
23:04
20 or 30 oocytes, maybe 50 on a crazy good day. I did it once with Blue Bell and only had nine
23:11
oocytes and we got a couple embryos. He goes, "Would you like to know how many oocytes this woman just gave us?" That is why he was calling because he was like,
23:19
"I do not know what to do." Seventy nine. You heard it. Seventy nine from Blue. And not all of them are going to take,
23:33
but like this past time with the horses for instance, Kennedy had 28 oocytes and we ended
23:45
up with 11 embryos. Some are just fertile mortals. With 79, we could end up with like 30 embryos.
23:54
Which would be great, because what do you do with them? So I already have someone who bought five embryos. We had to get the embryos first. So
24:04
if we truly get 30 or 35, I would open up to sell another five. Then I would keep the rest for me.
24:11
But that is crazy. So what do you do with the oocytes?
24:18
Oocyte is the egg inside the follicle. The follicle is the fluid filled sac. People think
24:29
doing that many in one month would make her run out faster, because you are born with a finite
24:40
number. But we are rescuing the eggs. She is going to have those follicles that month regardless.
24:55
When she goes through her cycle, her uterus is cleaned out and they go away. So we are
25:05
rescuing them. Generally only one or two will mature to the point of ovulation.
25:30
When you harvest, you want them mid cycle. You do not want them too big. You do not want them too small. So with them getting 79, they will take
25:42
them to their lab, do IVF or ICSI, and they have to turn into a blastocyst. Then after that they
What's Coming Up?
26:03
have a few days to become embryos. Once it is an embryo, it is like six days gestation.
26:17
Cool. Seventy nine. That is crazy. So if you want some Blue Bell and Justice
26:24
Heer embryos, I might have some soon. I do not have a cow.
26:30
You do not have a cow? No. Just throw one in. Pico. See what happens.
26:38
Oh my gosh. Move. So sleepy. Oh, I just realized you put a fireplace up there. Cozy vibes. I like it. It is cozy.
26:46
It is freezing in here. Yeah. Very cold. I wish we had fire. My hands are in my coat. Mind you, we did it like that because the
26:57
cameras were overheating and the lights make it hot in here. Sometimes it gets too hot and then sometimes it is too cold. Yeah, you look like Dale.
27:15
Oh, stand by. We are standing by. Oh good. You need to really have anything
27:20
else to do. Makes it less funny, but still. The hash slinging slasher. That is what you
27:29
look like right now with your hands in the sleeves and the big black coat.
27:35
You look like the slinging slasher. That is funny. So I love that this entire topic ended up being about galas and the potential
27:44
of going to some or hosting some. A couple things we did this
27:50
week and are looking forward to. We went and got Taz, the goat daddy,
27:56
as I have been calling him. Nobody else has. I think only me. He came to service Blossom once
28:04
again because they had Sprout this past year. Honey and Bee are now 16 months old,
28:11
so they are being covered for the first time. I honestly think three is my max on does to
28:19
kid out. If I did everybody and had five, could you imagine they all had triplets?
28:24
I mean no. I cannot. Fifteen. I feel like I struggled with six or seven
28:30
to give them all my attention and figure out their personalities. That is so many.
28:37
So I decided three was my max. That happened.
28:44
This coming weekend, I think we are going to try to put some does in the freezer. We are going to hunt a little, because we only have a couple weeks left of deer season. We only have a couple
28:58
weeks left of chilling at home before we get caught up in foaling season and all the things.
29:06
We are about to have a brainstorm session with the team about how to tackle foaling season content this year to give even more and even better.
29:13
If you have suggestions of things you feel like maybe I have not covered, or a part of foaling
29:21
season that is your favorite that I do not show enough of, let us know. Now is the time because
29:29
we are planning the season. No suggestion is too crazy.
29:37
I think we are branching out a little, because if you did not watch the last video,
29:45
the blindfold game, we are trying to get more YouTubey. That is what Matt and Nate
29:53
have been begging of me for three years. Timeline does not work. Sorry. Proceed.
30:02
I was going to say Matt said today that you are going to love this video.
30:09
I have not watched it yet. That is the thing. When we are filming this, I have not watched it yet. Y’all will have watched it for days now. I have not seen it.
30:16
Matt texted me earlier and said, "Katie is going to love this video. That is all I know. I have not seen it yet." What if I hate it?
30:22
Then what if I watch it and I am like, I do not like it. Well, you might. I do not think I have ever said that to y’all.
30:28
But you have never said you hated a video to us. I have heard rumors.
30:36
Okay, I am kidding. Anyway, I hope y’all enjoyed this
30:42
video. We have a couple ideas for games coming up since we are in that lull season before foaling
30:48
season where not a lot is going on. If you have others you think we should play, let us know.
30:53
And hopefully in the next episode we can revisit the courtroom affair
31:00
thing. Not affair, but it needs to be settled. We might have ordered wigs. It is getting settled.
31:09
We might have ordered wigs and a gavel. I think I should be the judge, but I do
31:24
feel biased because I already kind of know who I side with.
31:32
Every single person aside from Matt knows who they are siding with. We have to bring in an unbiased judge. We need someone cold hearted.
31:43
Rebecca. Maybe Rebecca. Maybe. You know what though? I do not know that I
31:50
want a cold hearted person to be the judge. Maybe you want someone a little more…
31:56
Because then it is favored to him. We need someone in the middle. We need middle of the road. Not too harsh, not too sweet.
32:07
I feel like that is me. But again, you just admitted bias. I know. Oh, I did.
32:13
Well, it is not bias. It is just that you already formed your opinion without hearing both sides.
32:21
Whatever. We will get there. We will get into it. We will see. I am thinking about it and Lindsay has already
32:28
formed her opinion, so we cannot have her. Rachel is cold hearted too.
32:37
No, no. Rachel would be on our side. So anyway, stay tuned for that. And again, all
32:45
the questions I asked in this video, I cannot even remember them all. Let me know in the comments. We will see you in the next one. And again, Christmas merch. Christmas
32:55
merch. Christmas merch. This design plus others, plus ornaments, diamond art, all kinds of stuff
33:02
right now. You better go quick on that, because it is almost not Christmas as I have been made aware,
33:11
because our tree is not up yet. Oh yeah. It is December 3rd, which also means the merch will not be here for long. And you will not be
33:18
able to get it by Christmas for very long. So shop quick.
33:24
Go shop at katievanslyke.net. If you are not following my Snapchat, do that. katievanslyke96. And I will see you in the next one.
