<v Speaker 1>He'll be don't be beer. Hey, everybody, welcome to Game
<v Speaker 1>Mess Mornings with Me Jeff Greb, your host from giant
<v Speaker 1>bomb dot com. Thank you for tuning in. In this episode,
<v Speaker 1>we're gonna be talking about Nintendo's distinct lack of respect
<v Speaker 1>for the Holy Donkey Kong timeline, and lore. It's gonna
<v Speaker 1>be a good one because we have Lex Luddie on
<v Speaker 1>the show. LEXI, how are you doing well?
<v Speaker 2>I've had about like eight hours sleep over the course
<v Speaker 2>of the last like four nights. Oh yeah, so this
<v Speaker 2>is gonna be a fun show. It's gonna be a
<v Speaker 2>real interesting show. Let's see how this goes.
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, you don't. You don't need sleep, You just
<v Speaker 1>need Game Mess Mornings and very early Well, I guess
<v Speaker 1>not for you Nintendo Directs.
<v Speaker 2>Well, did you did you see that I met Chris Son?
<v Speaker 2>I met Chris Son in a Spanish airport?
<v Speaker 1>Did I saw you met Chris Son? I was very
<v Speaker 1>excited for you.
<v Speaker 2>I played Mario Arcage in a Spanish I.
<v Speaker 1>Mean, I'm sure he was just stopping everyone he could
<v Speaker 1>see to talk about stomping tupas.
<v Speaker 2>It was delightful, man, delightful man.
<v Speaker 1>Very excited for you. Now when I think of him,
<v Speaker 1>I think about hearing that from cast members at Disney
<v Speaker 1>who are like, hey, there was a thread like who
<v Speaker 1>are some of the worst people that are worst famous
<v Speaker 1>people you've ever had to deal with? And someone's like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>Chris Pratt, I got it. Sounds about right right. Listen,
<v Speaker 1>He's a delight in my YouTube chat everybody. So I
<v Speaker 1>don't know, he's good to me. Maybe maybe just try
<v Speaker 1>being better yourself so everybody, he'll treat you better. All right,
<v Speaker 1>we're gonna get into this show here in a second.
<v Speaker 1>But Lexi, you have been traveling, have you been able
<v Speaker 1>to keep up with games? I know you were able
<v Speaker 1>to get your hands on a switch to. How's that
<v Speaker 1>all going?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah? I got a switch to And it resulted in
<v Speaker 2>a massively embarrassing moment for me where I got on
<v Speaker 2>an airplane. I was traveling to Spain for a family
<v Speaker 2>thing to visit some people, and there was a woman
<v Speaker 2>sitting one side of me, and there was a man
<v Speaker 2>saying the other side of me, and I was still
<v Speaker 2>on the tarmac and I was like, oh, I've never
<v Speaker 2>beaten Tokyo Mamas sessions. It's like, I'll play a bit
<v Speaker 2>more of that I played about an hour of it
<v Speaker 2>the night before and I just finished the first dungeon.
<v Speaker 2>And at the end of that first dungeon, you're introduced
<v Speaker 2>to the woman who kind of like gives you all
<v Speaker 2>of your quests, and it's like she's the leader. And
<v Speaker 2>that woman had the most boobs physics of any video
<v Speaker 2>game character I've ever witnessed in my life.
<v Speaker 1>That's when you really want it is when you're stuck
<v Speaker 1>with twen people on a plane.
<v Speaker 2>And I was instantly like, well, I'm playing Tetris for
<v Speaker 2>the rest of the splash I'm just gonna load up
<v Speaker 2>Tetris Effect instead and hope that they didn't see that.
<v Speaker 1>Sh did Tetris Effect also get boob physics? Is that
<v Speaker 1>why you played that one? Okay? Fair enough?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. They added boobs to all those
<v Speaker 2>like ethereal dolphins. It's weird.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and then the you know, the jiggle on there,
<v Speaker 1>it's just crazy. All right, Well, let's explain what we
<v Speaker 1>do here. This is Giant Bomb. You can support this
<v Speaker 1>if you like it by going to giant bomb dot com.
<v Speaker 1>Slash Join gets you a membership if you pay the
<v Speaker 1>monthly fee there, you're gonna get ad free shows. You
<v Speaker 1>make it stuff you.
<v Speaker 2>Wanna get mugs, Mike is gonna get you mugs.
<v Speaker 1>Mike.
<v Speaker 3>I got a mug for Mike.
<v Speaker 1>If you and if more people join at a certain point,
<v Speaker 1>we'll just add new mugs to the store randomly and
<v Speaker 1>he'll have to deal with the fallout of that because
<v Speaker 1>he is merch Master Mike, because me merch Master Mitch.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, it really helps us do things over here.
<v Speaker 1>It's just we're a small team trying to figure things out.
<v Speaker 1>We still have not even like paid ourselves yet, so
<v Speaker 1>we're kind of piecing all these things together, and the
<v Speaker 1>more support we get, the more we can do. We
<v Speaker 1>have a lot of big ideas stuff that is getting
<v Speaker 1>under the underway right now. In fact, as far as
<v Speaker 1>this show goes most weekdays, I Jeff Grub will help
<v Speaker 1>piece your gaming life back together. That includes breaking news
<v Speaker 1>and maybe even some of our own reporting for all
<v Speaker 1>these topics, I'll get the input of a bone to
<v Speaker 1>fide expert who will make me look smart. If you
<v Speaker 1>were watching live on twitch Welcome, you can always listen
<v Speaker 1>to the show later on podcast feeds by searching for
<v Speaker 1>Game mess Mornings, or find the RSS feed on Giant
<v Speaker 1>bomb dot com. You can also catch the show later
<v Speaker 1>on YouTube. Hello YouTube. All right, we have a lot
<v Speaker 1>to get into, so let's start the morning mess with
<v Speaker 1>Donkey Kong Bonanza Nintendo Direct roundup from my Nintendo News.
<v Speaker 1>Here they go. In today's Donkey Kong Bananza Direct presentation,
<v Speaker 1>Donkey Kong returns in the spotlight with Mayhem, music, mystery,
<v Speaker 1>and oh so many Bananas. The game is launching July seventeenth,
<v Speaker 1>exclusively for Nintendo Switch to and Donkey Kong Bananza is
<v Speaker 1>an all new three D platform and game that lets
<v Speaker 1>DK punch, grab, toss, climb, smash, and flex's strength as
<v Speaker 1>he explores the depths of this wild action adventure. You know,
<v Speaker 1>we knew a lot of the stuff. This was our
<v Speaker 1>most decent and long, lengthy look at the game so far,
<v Speaker 1>and it really really has won me over. You know,
<v Speaker 1>I was already going to play this game no matter what.
<v Speaker 1>I'm a sucker. I've been over this. But how about you?
<v Speaker 1>How do you find this direct? Yeah?
<v Speaker 2>I'm not a Donkey Kong person in a lot of ways.
<v Speaker 2>I'm not a big fan of the dk C games.
<v Speaker 2>I do like Donkey Kong, like the arcade game and
<v Speaker 2>Donkey Kong ninety four is pretty awesome as well, but
<v Speaker 2>I'm not a huge fan of either the DK country
<v Speaker 2>sort of the ny sny S ones or the later ones.
<v Speaker 2>This super won me over. This looks delightful, The music
<v Speaker 2>seems great, the character designs seem great, the exploring the
<v Speaker 2>world looks really fun and interesting. I'm super excited to
<v Speaker 2>play a bit more.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I'm I'm like, if I'm looking at twitch chat now,
<v Speaker 1>I'm interested to see people's reaction to it. You know,
<v Speaker 1>even if you're someone who's skeptical Nintendo games generally, like,
<v Speaker 1>if you did watch the direct, well, yeah, what was
<v Speaker 1>your takeaway? I'm trying like, it does seem like there
<v Speaker 1>were some people who weren't sure about this game for
<v Speaker 1>whatever reason. And you know, I was watching that, I
<v Speaker 1>was like, ooh, clap in my hands, Yay, look at
<v Speaker 1>They're showing all these funny things and cute things that
<v Speaker 1>I think look fun to play around with. And at
<v Speaker 1>the same time, like, you know, like any game, I'll
<v Speaker 1>have to get my hands on it and decide at
<v Speaker 1>that point if this stuff is actually going to deliver
<v Speaker 1>real fun. But I'm like, oh, did some people see
<v Speaker 1>like level design they didn't like that something Mike mentioned. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I saw people saying that.
<v Speaker 2>I think that was kind of one of the few
<v Speaker 2>things I was missing from the director. Was a lot
<v Speaker 2>of like, here's your move sesshon, here's all the things
<v Speaker 2>that you can do in the open world and go
<v Speaker 2>around and look at and change into costumes and stuff.
<v Speaker 2>But there was very little like, okay, and here's what
<v Speaker 2>you do in the game, here's how you aggress through
<v Speaker 2>the game, here's what your objective is, or anything like that,
<v Speaker 2>which I think some people might like. It's a very
<v Speaker 2>different game design philosophy to Mario Odyssey, which is like,
<v Speaker 2>here's the beginning of the level and kind of the
<v Speaker 2>end of the level, which is a boss usually, and
<v Speaker 2>collect moons as you go, uh to have enough moons
<v Speaker 2>when you get there, and if you don't have enough moons,
<v Speaker 2>go back and look for some more. Whereas this it
<v Speaker 2>seems to be much more exploration first and then progress
<v Speaker 2>through a level. So I know, maybe some people will
<v Speaker 2>feel that it's not as directed in a way that
<v Speaker 2>a lot of Nintendo games you know, are so good
<v Speaker 2>ash and like handcrafted in that way of like specifically
<v Speaker 2>getting you to go certain directions and see certain things
<v Speaker 2>and interact with certain things. But I think it looked
<v Speaker 2>really good. I'm I'm looking forward to it in a
<v Speaker 2>way that I wasn't. And compared to a lot of
<v Speaker 2>those individual game directs that they did, this one felt
<v Speaker 2>like it was like it was at a good pace.
<v Speaker 2>It was substantial content, and it wasn't like unbearable detail
<v Speaker 2>like we've had with some of the Smash brother ones
<v Speaker 2>in the in the past, where it's like, I don't
<v Speaker 2>I don't care, Matt, I don't care about these fucking trophies, man, yep.
<v Speaker 1>And they would just keep going for a really long
<v Speaker 1>time with the Smash Dires. This one was fifteen minutes really,
<v Speaker 1>and then you know, there was a point where it's like, Okay,
<v Speaker 1>some of these features that they're going into now, it's like,
<v Speaker 1>have they run out of exciting stuff to talk about
<v Speaker 1>now that we're down to the Ambo? But I guess
<v Speaker 1>other people care about Ambo, so that's just a me thing.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, let's read some of the Do you care about Ambo?
<v Speaker 1>I'm just sickos, definitely sickos that are holding one on
<v Speaker 1>my show right now.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, it's Luke, everyone's favorite Nintendo character.
<v Speaker 1>Uh huh, Luke number one Luke fans on this show.
<v Speaker 1>All right, Donkey Kong Bananza game kicks off in Inget Isle,
<v Speaker 1>where the discovery of the century has just been made
<v Speaker 1>within its cavernous depths golden bananas. As you can imagine,
<v Speaker 1>DK very horny for these things. This turns out to
<v Speaker 1>be excellent news for the renowned banana fan Donkey Kong,
<v Speaker 1>which I'm I'm gonna put renowned banana fan on my
<v Speaker 1>business card from now on, who just happens to be
<v Speaker 1>there for this incredible fine. However, just before DK can
<v Speaker 1>indulge in the gilded treats, a tempest sends him hurling,
<v Speaker 1>hurtling deeper into the depths of the planet. There he
<v Speaker 1>meets a mysterious new ally in odd Rock, who turns
<v Speaker 1>out to be a talented young singer named Pauline. Okay,
<v Speaker 1>so the rock is Pauline. I actually didn't put two
<v Speaker 1>and two together there together playing in the movie.
<v Speaker 2>He's going to play oh in the next movie.
<v Speaker 1>I mean that makes perfect sense to me. He's just
<v Speaker 1>got that versatility. He could do anything an he can
<v Speaker 1>sing together. The pair ex for the vast underground world
<v Speaker 1>by smashing crashing, jumping, and singing their way through. It
<v Speaker 1>a rollicking adventure. You could play solo or in co
<v Speaker 1>op with a friend. They showed that where you the
<v Speaker 1>second player was playing in mouse mode and was just
<v Speaker 1>firing big rocky words at people. It was interesting. Here's
<v Speaker 1>some other tidbits. New ways to smash and bash utilize
<v Speaker 1>powerful abilities like dive punch, rolling, handslap and turf surfing
<v Speaker 1>to overcome obstacles and find hidden items with combinations from
<v Speaker 1>maximum Mayhem. Just seems like there's a reason and three
<v Speaker 1>buttons are punching destroy stuff on the face of the controller.
<v Speaker 1>That is the main verb you're doing in this game
<v Speaker 1>that they want you to focus on. There's Bonanza transformations.
<v Speaker 1>Pauline enhances Donkey Kong's abilities through singing activated by Bananergy
<v Speaker 1>with transformations like Congbo lazy.
<v Speaker 2>That one's terrible. That's a terrible one. But they even
<v Speaker 2>fucking shry with.
<v Speaker 1>That one energy Bananergy. I don't know.
<v Speaker 3>It kind of works for me, real good Bananergy.
<v Speaker 1>I have got bananergy legs. The transformations like Kong Bonanza
<v Speaker 1>for strength, Zebra Bonanza for speed, and Ostrich Banana for flight,
<v Speaker 1>and egg bombs Do you think that is it? Or
<v Speaker 1>do you there's probably some more right for transformations.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, there might be someone that they haven't shown off.
<v Speaker 2>I don't think it's going to be like a Khaki
<v Speaker 2>style thing, whether it's like sixty them, definitely not, because
<v Speaker 2>I do think the deformation is the mechanic that they're
<v Speaker 2>play around with this time, So I think that's going
<v Speaker 2>to be the focus.
<v Speaker 1>Uh. Co Yeah, we talked about co op play Race
<v Speaker 1>to the Planet Core. Donkey Kong and Pauline seek the
<v Speaker 1>planet Core for their desires while racing against the Void
<v Speaker 1>company who stole bananas and turned Pauline into odd Rock.
<v Speaker 1>What why do they crave the planet Core? What desires
<v Speaker 1>are they talking about here?
<v Speaker 2>Gub This game is just like Black Black Ops three.
<v Speaker 2>It's about where Earth minerals.
<v Speaker 1>Of course, Yeah, they're they just want to be able
<v Speaker 1>to build the control of the iPhone supply chain here. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>collectibles find banandium gyms. How do you feel about that one?
<v Speaker 1>It's a little bit better Bananager.
<v Speaker 2>That one's more acceptable because I live in a world
<v Speaker 2>where I think about unobtainium alosha.
<v Speaker 1>Of course, so really yeah, of course, yes, who doesn't
<v Speaker 1>listen both people on this show do, and that to me,
<v Speaker 1>it means one percent of people do. Okay, do you
<v Speaker 1>remember what the banandium gyms provide you in this game?
<v Speaker 1>I've forgotten, so I just read it on this on
<v Speaker 1>this sheet here.
<v Speaker 2>A raging election.
<v Speaker 3>I have no idea, that's right.
<v Speaker 1>And also skill points for the skill which is a weird.
<v Speaker 2>One of those skill points. Yeah, one of those skill
<v Speaker 2>points is just a raging election the Donkey Kong.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and then it just obviously keep putting more skill
<v Speaker 1>points in there, men max into the raging erection. That's
<v Speaker 1>a weird thing to have in a Mario or must say,
<v Speaker 1>a Nintendo three D platform. Almost said Mario, but this
<v Speaker 1>is not Mario. It's dkay. But it's not like DK
<v Speaker 1>has had a skill tree in a game before really
<v Speaker 1>any Nintendo platform or of any kind. So I don't
<v Speaker 1>know what do you make of that.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's interesting that this is the game where they
<v Speaker 2>have a skill tree when like even the Mario orpgs
<v Speaker 2>don't really have skill trees, right, you just kind of
<v Speaker 2>get you you get what they tell you you get,
<v Speaker 2>and so it's interesting that this is the one where
<v Speaker 2>like you can spec your character differently and I'm not
<v Speaker 2>sure if that will flacken some of the level design
<v Speaker 2>of like, hey, we have to make sure that if
<v Speaker 2>someone doesn't have like a glide jump, they can still
<v Speaker 2>get this thing halfway through they So I'm curious how
<v Speaker 2>that affects the actual gameplay, but I'm super curious. I
<v Speaker 2>do have to say, we were talking about unobtainium and
<v Speaker 2>stuff like that, and it just made me think, I
<v Speaker 2>really want someone to edit together the Donkey Kong trailer
<v Speaker 2>with the and or scene of the guy going yes,
<v Speaker 2>demanding calcuich and Donkey Kong being there being like.
<v Speaker 1>Cawcuich deep substraight foliated banandium everybody. That's what I'm into,
<v Speaker 1>and that's what I need. Other familiar faces and new
<v Speaker 1>faces join the fun. The Void Company members or that
<v Speaker 1>that's that's the enemy crew. Uh there's giant Elders, which
<v Speaker 1>were giant animals that looked sleepy. It was weird. Uh,
<v Speaker 1>Cranky Kong is back ramby, Grumpy Kong is a new one,
<v Speaker 1>Poppy Kong voi Kong. Those are the Void crew people,
<v Speaker 1>getaways and elevators. Rest at getaways to restore energy and
<v Speaker 1>choose music. Uh use elevators subterranean eels for quick travel.
<v Speaker 1>There's creative game modes where you can sculpt DK's face
<v Speaker 1>and then paint him using the mouse mode.
<v Speaker 3>There's I'm sure that will end well, I don't understand
<v Speaker 3>what you're saying.
<v Speaker 1>Listen. Raging directions are one of the things in the
<v Speaker 1>skill tree that's they're just uh huh. And then there's
<v Speaker 1>a new Ambo where DK has Pauline ryning us back.
<v Speaker 2>Now, Pauline, who would buy useless Ambo? Who would buy
<v Speaker 2>useless Ambo for too much money? No?
<v Speaker 1>And I know, uh, Pauline is a child in this game.
<v Speaker 1>Cranky Kong is in this game, and he's still Cranky Kong. Uh.
<v Speaker 1>This has people up in arms because Nintendo has just
<v Speaker 1>thrown out the traditional DK lore and has no respect
<v Speaker 1>for it. Donkey Kong Bonanza raises the possibility of a
<v Speaker 1>DK multiverse, says Steve Watts at games Spot. Donkey Kong
<v Speaker 1>Bonanza is the next big switch to game, landing firmly
<v Speaker 1>within Launch Windows status. Next month, Nintendo took the wraps
<v Speaker 1>off of DKB with a rapid fire presentation detailing its story, features,
<v Speaker 1>AMBO support and more, and altogether it looks like a
<v Speaker 1>dang hoot. Donkey Kong can go super Saiyan or turn
<v Speaker 1>into a zebra. There's a cabal of evil capitalist Kongs.
<v Speaker 1>He collects Bananergy, one of Lexi's favorite things, high marks
<v Speaker 1>across the board. The story elements, though, appeared to raise
<v Speaker 1>some pretty serious questions about our understanding of the Donkey
<v Speaker 1>Kong lore. That's right, I said, Donkey Kong lore with
<v Speaker 1>a straight face. Buckle up, kids. The Donkey Kong Bananza
<v Speaker 1>presentation opened within with introducing Young Pauline, a budding singer
<v Speaker 1>who we know from Super Mario Odyssey would go on
<v Speaker 1>to become the mayor of New Donk City in this game,
<v Speaker 1>she looks no more than ten years old or so
<v Speaker 1>and hangs off DK's back as a companion character. Pauline
<v Speaker 1>has a dream and DK is being exploited by his
<v Speaker 1>capitalists overload, so together they head toward the planet Core
<v Speaker 1>to make a wish. All completely normal So far, okay,
<v Speaker 1>Planet Cord grants wishes. I missed that, in fact, the
<v Speaker 1>presence of a young Pauline implies this is a prequel
<v Speaker 1>of sorts. DK has been rehabilitated from his villainous persona
<v Speaker 1>in the original Donkey Kong for years, but buddying up
<v Speaker 1>with Pauline as a little girl suggests that there was
<v Speaker 1>more to the story than we knew as of the time.
<v Speaker 1>When DK grabbed her and carried her to the top
<v Speaker 1>of a tower and forced Jumpman aka Mario to rescue her,
<v Speaker 1>they apparently had a history. They were old friends. The
<v Speaker 1>mind reels, says Steve Watts. Do you think, LEXI that
<v Speaker 1>me reading all those words put us in a situation
<v Speaker 1>you I the people watching, you know, watching, listening at home,
<v Speaker 1>that we have now thought about this more than Nintendo has.
<v Speaker 2>Bob, I need you to know, I don't care.
<v Speaker 3>Who why would anyone care?
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo doesn't care.
<v Speaker 2>It's so funny, Like the high role historia should tell
<v Speaker 2>you all you need to know about how much Nintendo
<v Speaker 2>gives a shit about the internal logic of its universes.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. I mean, it's it's not even secondary, right, It
<v Speaker 1>is background noise. It is the background radiation of the
<v Speaker 1>Big Bang that is just there and if it went away,
<v Speaker 1>no one would notice and no one would care. That's
<v Speaker 1>how Nintendo feels about the about like the lore for
<v Speaker 1>something like Zelda, let alone Donkey Kong, that it's just
<v Speaker 1>there to serve like the gameplay and it's been a
<v Speaker 1>long time since like DK, and and if they were
<v Speaker 1>like gun to their head, if you broke into Nintendo's
<v Speaker 1>headquarters and used you know, had like an electric whip
<v Speaker 1>that you could tie around their neck, like tell the
<v Speaker 1>truth or I'll electrify you, and like, how does how
<v Speaker 1>do you make this make sense? They could probably come
<v Speaker 1>up with something where it's like DK was misunderstood in
<v Speaker 1>Donkey Kong, or he got shot with a tranquilizer dart
<v Speaker 1>that made him forget his best friends. Like it's just
<v Speaker 1>not that hard to come up with head cannon. You
<v Speaker 1>could probably spout off fifteen of those really fast and
<v Speaker 1>everything would still make perfect sense. Now I'll give you
<v Speaker 1>that Cranky Kong was once supposed to be the Donkey
<v Speaker 1>Kong that was in DK, and now he's there and
<v Speaker 1>this is young Pauline. Is that the same Pauline? Well no,
<v Speaker 1>maybe it's a different Pauline. Maybe this is Pauline junior.
<v Speaker 1>Like there's just ways to make it make sense. I guess. Mostly,
<v Speaker 1>I'm just kind of confused that some people seem to
<v Speaker 1>be like legitimately trying to figure this out and Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>did not, So yeah, you're not too concerned about this.
<v Speaker 2>There's an idea coined by The Weekly Planet when they
<v Speaker 2>were talking about X Men movies where they were, like
<v Speaker 2>the when people talk about the X Men movies canon,
<v Speaker 2>the only thing that is canon for each X Men
<v Speaker 2>movie is what happened in the previous X Men movies,
<v Speaker 2>right like the previous one, just one back one. It
<v Speaker 2>doesn't go yeah, it doesn't go any further. So like
<v Speaker 2>the stuff that happened in Days of Future pass connected
<v Speaker 2>to first class, but the stuff that happened in Apocalypse
<v Speaker 2>contradicts all a first class and Nintendo stuff is even
<v Speaker 2>worse than that, where it's just like, actually all of
<v Speaker 2>them are self contained. Don't fucking worry about it. It's
<v Speaker 2>a stage play. They've said before. It's a fucking stage play.
<v Speaker 2>We don't care. That's the most like we're trying to
<v Speaker 2>tell you we don't care in an answer that makes
<v Speaker 2>it sound whimsical kind of way of like, guys, we
<v Speaker 2>just don't care about an overarching story. It doesn't have one.
<v Speaker 2>And I think that these characters are just templates. They
<v Speaker 2>always have been. They've just been templates for characteristics, and
<v Speaker 2>DK's characteristics have changed over time. Which means that it's
<v Speaker 2>now necessary for him to be a more like protagonist
<v Speaker 2>character than anti antagonistic style character. So yeah, that's that's
<v Speaker 2>all this is.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, I'm with you and you're like these the stage
<v Speaker 1>play is a very good point. So or it's like
<v Speaker 1>even kind of like a like an indie wrestling promotion
<v Speaker 1>from like the seventies or whatever, where it's like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>they're toning an ongoing story, but if they have to
<v Speaker 1>throw everything out, not many people are gonna really notice
<v Speaker 1>because they understand that's not really what it's all about.
<v Speaker 1>All Right, we're got we're gonna get onto the rest
<v Speaker 1>of the headlines, but first we're gonna take a break.
<v Speaker 1>And I don't I don't have the ads chance not here.
<v Speaker 1>He's not running the show. So if you're watching live
<v Speaker 1>there you go an ad free version. But this will
<v Speaker 1>be in the podcast version later. So we're gonna go
<v Speaker 1>to an ad break. If you don't want to see these,
<v Speaker 1>you don't want to hear these in the future, go
<v Speaker 1>to giant bomb dot com slash join gets the ad
<v Speaker 1>free helps you miss out on that. In fact, you
<v Speaker 1>can even go to giant bomb dot com slash chat
<v Speaker 1>if you're a premium member and you get the ad
<v Speaker 1>free live version from Twitch, so you don't get the
<v Speaker 1>Twitch ads in there. That's a pretty cool feature that
<v Speaker 1>everyone should take advantage of. All Right, we're gonna go
<v Speaker 1>to a break. We'll be right back right after this. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>so yeah, exactly, that's what we should have. Let's let
<v Speaker 1>me turn that off. All right, there we go. All right,
<v Speaker 1>we're back Game Mess Mornings. I'm Jeff Grubb, that's Lex Ludi.
<v Speaker 1>We're gonna get back into the headlines with Warner Brothers Game. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Warner Games splits into Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC, Game
<v Speaker 1>of Thrones divisions. This is from Andy Robinson at VGC.
<v Speaker 1>Warner Brothers Games has restructured into divisions dedicated to four
<v Speaker 1>key franchises, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and
<v Speaker 1>the DC universe. On Tuesday, the company confirmed it had
<v Speaker 1>promoted Warner Brothers Games Montreal Studio had yeves La Chanp
<v Speaker 1>to oversee Harry Potter and Game of Thrones games, while
<v Speaker 1>nether realm Studio head Sean Hemmerick will oversee oversee Mortal
<v Speaker 1>Kombat and DC Games. Restructuring comes during a period of
<v Speaker 1>significant overhaul at WB games divisions. Earlier this year, WB
<v Speaker 1>Interactive at president David Hadad left the company following a
<v Speaker 1>twelve year tenure. Warner then announced last month that it
<v Speaker 1>closing three internal game development studios and canceling its Wonder
<v Speaker 1>Woman game. There's obviously a lot of other things that
<v Speaker 1>they have in the works here. Do you think this
<v Speaker 1>feels like an answer to what ales WB when it
<v Speaker 1>comes to producing games based on its properties properties internally?
<v Speaker 2>Nope, not at all. I think the most notable thing
<v Speaker 2>in this is that there is not a Lego division
<v Speaker 2>or a TT Games division which is still owned by
<v Speaker 2>Warner bothers. Yeah, so if I was at Traveler Tales,
<v Speaker 2>I would be rather anxious about the future.
<v Speaker 1>Or is the show or is it the opposite? Like
<v Speaker 1>I think it's a possibility where it's like Travelers Tales.
<v Speaker 1>We know what to do with Travelers Tales, so we
<v Speaker 1>don't need to like figure out a new division to
<v Speaker 1>fit them under and all this stuff and all these
<v Speaker 1>other ones like Mortal Kombat. Maybe notwithstanding although that last
<v Speaker 1>Mortal Kombat game didn't do quite as well as they
<v Speaker 1>were hoped being And you know, Harry Potter is like
<v Speaker 1>obviously a big one that they're focused on, but like
<v Speaker 1>DC and Game of Thrones, these things are do feel
<v Speaker 1>a little bit more lost in the woods. And I
<v Speaker 1>don't know if I'm Travelers Tales, I'm almost like happy
<v Speaker 1>I'm being left out of this restructuring. I don't know,
<v Speaker 1>does that make sense?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I suppose. My main question is how they view
<v Speaker 2>TT now because they are no longer the exclusive Lego
<v Speaker 2>development studio. There are other studios working on Lego games,
<v Speaker 2>other publishers working on Lego games, two K doing Lego
<v Speaker 2>Sports games. You have these indie Lego games. You have
<v Speaker 2>Lego Horizon, which was done by Gorilla and was it
<v Speaker 2>Sumo or someone like that. It was it was kind
<v Speaker 2>of a partner development thing. But I think that like
<v Speaker 2>that Lego Sours game sold really well, but it was
<v Speaker 2>delayed four times or like three or four times, and
<v Speaker 2>they were really mad about how much it was delayed.
<v Speaker 2>And on top of that, you also need to like
<v Speaker 2>remember that they haven't put out a game since that
<v Speaker 2>Lego game, which has been a while. So I'm just
<v Speaker 2>kind of curious as to the stage of that organization.
<v Speaker 2>I don't think this helps because we're seeing that The
<v Speaker 2>big problem with Triple A game development right now is
<v Speaker 2>that big bets are so risky, and people haven't liked
<v Speaker 2>a lot of Warner Brothers big bets recently. They didn't
<v Speaker 2>like Suicide Squad More Combat One wasn't like a disaster
<v Speaker 2>or anything, but it certainly didn't set the world on
<v Speaker 2>fire in the way that they wanted it to. And
<v Speaker 2>now they're like, Okay, our solution to this is to
<v Speaker 2>consolidate and place bigger and fewer bets. And I don't
<v Speaker 2>think that the solution to this is is like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>let's make some scribble Narts games again, because I don't
<v Speaker 2>think scribble Narts is necessarily gonna like solve their problems.
<v Speaker 2>But I do think that like having some really talented
<v Speaker 2>studios like they do. There's some like very alan studios
<v Speaker 2>there and getting them to work on fucking Harry Potter
<v Speaker 2>until that franchise is driven into the dirsh one way
<v Speaker 2>or the other, Like that's just going to grind out
<v Speaker 2>the final bit of positivity anyone felt about like that company,
<v Speaker 2>and like you look at you be soft people. The
<v Speaker 2>reason people are sick of you be soft is because
<v Speaker 2>they're like, well, we keep on getting the same stuff.
<v Speaker 2>We keep on getting Assassin' Squed, we keep on getting
<v Speaker 2>the same stuff, and so being like, yeah, we're gonna
<v Speaker 2>give you the same stuff but more. I don't think
<v Speaker 2>like people want that anymore. People want new and interesting stuff.
<v Speaker 2>They want something to surprise them. And the sure shit
<v Speaker 2>isn't going to be anything that's going to supprise them
<v Speaker 2>from a Game of Thrones game. And like DC, maybe
<v Speaker 2>you get a good DC game out there, but like
<v Speaker 2>lock Steady has lost a lot of talent, and who
<v Speaker 2>else is making DC games for them?
<v Speaker 1>And which is you know, yeah, I not had a.
<v Speaker 2>Great Yeah, and they have never given the support that
<v Speaker 2>they need to to actually make something successful, like telling
<v Speaker 2>them to make a Batman game not inside the Arkham universe,
<v Speaker 2>but in the style of Arkham Combat. Yeah, that's gonna
<v Speaker 2>go great, guys, Fans are gonna love that.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Warner Brothers as a company, everyone knows is a shit show.
<v Speaker 2>David Zaslav like doesn't know how to run a company,
<v Speaker 2>and he's just really good at making money for himself.
<v Speaker 2>And most of these franch like two of these franchises,
<v Speaker 2>I could not give less of a shit about one
<v Speaker 2>of them. I only kind of give a shit about,
<v Speaker 2>and that's because James Gunn occasionally makes interesting movies and
<v Speaker 2>Moral Kombat is Moral Kombat. It could survive on its own.
<v Speaker 2>I don't think it needs Warner Brothers. I think the
<v Speaker 2>best thing for Mortal Combat in the world would be
<v Speaker 2>if Warner Brothers was liquidated and they were sold to
<v Speaker 2>literally anyone else.
<v Speaker 1>YEP. I think that that series continues sort of despite
<v Speaker 1>Warner Brothers is involved, and you definitely get the sense
<v Speaker 1>that Warner Brothers is like corporate desire for for growth
<v Speaker 1>is one of the problems for Mortal Kombat, of just
<v Speaker 1>trying to find a way to squeeze more money from
<v Speaker 1>every aspect of that. Not that a standalone nether Realm
<v Speaker 1>wouldn't try to make even more money from that game,
<v Speaker 1>but you know that the pressures from a corporation are
<v Speaker 1>always going to be extreme when it comes to that stuff.
<v Speaker 1>Warner Brothers just can't figure out games, despite making successful games,
<v Speaker 1>some of the most successful games, and despite making games
<v Speaker 1>that people really love there they just come out of
<v Speaker 1>those things and they're like, man, that was tough. Did
<v Speaker 1>we learn anything. It's like, well, we kind of don't
<v Speaker 1>want to do this anymore, so can we sell all
<v Speaker 1>of our all of our studios and stuff like that,
<v Speaker 1>and they've tried to do that multiple times, could not
<v Speaker 1>find any buyers who were willing to buy those studios
<v Speaker 1>without getting, you know, a perpetual license to the IP
<v Speaker 1>or whatever, right, And so I just think that them
<v Speaker 1>settling on whatever this is actually going to look like,
<v Speaker 1>feels like, Okay, someone has to try to figure this out.
<v Speaker 1>This was our fourth or fifth option down on the
<v Speaker 1>list of things we wanted to do. I guess someone
<v Speaker 1>should own this. And again, like knowing corporations like the
<v Speaker 1>way I do, my assumption here is going to be
<v Speaker 1>this is probably going to fizzle out and one of
<v Speaker 1>these divisions will probably not be long for this world.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, I don't know, like, are they really going
<v Speaker 1>to make four Game of Thrones games? I can't see
<v Speaker 1>that making any sense. So it's like, yeah, this is
<v Speaker 1>going to be an initiative that we look back on
<v Speaker 1>in a couple of years Lexi and go, oh, remember
<v Speaker 1>when they tried that? What was that even about. I
<v Speaker 1>don't think much comes from this.
<v Speaker 2>I think this is like a really effective way for
<v Speaker 2>them to be able to distribute the blame when something
<v Speaker 2>goes wrong. And we will say, well, it was this segment.
<v Speaker 2>Let's lay off people from this segment. They didn't They're
<v Speaker 2>the reason we didn't hear our earnings this year. And
<v Speaker 2>it's just a more effective way for them to do that,
<v Speaker 2>to lay the blame at someone else's feet when it's
<v Speaker 2>really like it's the people at the tops fucking fault.
<v Speaker 2>And also like they've tied themselves to the situation where
<v Speaker 2>two of the franchises that they're working on, one of
<v Speaker 2>them is incomplete and is probably never going to be
<v Speaker 2>finished by its author, the other one is run by
<v Speaker 2>a raging biggish and like it's not a stable fucking like, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>it's not a great collection of ip where they can
<v Speaker 2>be like, oh, well, you know these are these are
<v Speaker 2>you know, really stable things and people love them like
<v Speaker 2>Star Wars. And I was like, now more people are
<v Speaker 2>falling off Harry Powder all the time, more people are
<v Speaker 2>falling off Game of Thrones because those books are never
<v Speaker 2>coming out all the time, Like they're not they're not
<v Speaker 2>eternal franchises in the way that Warner others likes to
<v Speaker 2>think think they are.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and then and then you know, the DC stuff
<v Speaker 1>is challenging, right, they've kind of they feel like they've
<v Speaker 1>tapped out Batman. That's why they were trying other stuff,
<v Speaker 1>and then other stuff just doesn't get people as excited,
<v Speaker 1>and Superman seems to be this non starter of like
<v Speaker 1>they ever get a Superman thing off the ground pun
<v Speaker 1>nonintended there, But I just think that they will. There's
<v Speaker 1>no obvious answer waiting for them to just take the
<v Speaker 1>next step into and being like, Okay, now this is
<v Speaker 1>clearly what we do with all these things, and now
<v Speaker 1>we're back on the pathway to growth. It's going to
<v Speaker 1>be much more challenging than that. I just don't know
<v Speaker 1>their appetite over there, knowing that they've tried to sell
<v Speaker 1>off these studios multiple times now and just couldn't find
<v Speaker 1>a buyer and that's the only reason that they still
<v Speaker 1>have a game division. Yeah, that's yeah. Long term, I
<v Speaker 1>think that a lot of these decisions will just not
<v Speaker 1>pan out too much, and some of them could be
<v Speaker 1>even disastrous. All right, let's do the FBC Firebreak review
<v Speaker 1>round up. It has a sixty seven on Open Critic
<v Speaker 1>right now. When I checked lex Ludi earlier this morning,
<v Speaker 1>PC gamers Rick Lake gave it a sixty out of
<v Speaker 1>one hundred and said FBC Firebreaks mad cap mission concepts.
<v Speaker 1>Concepts are delightfully silly, but balancing issues and limited replay
<v Speaker 1>value hinder the fun. It got two stars from Abby
<v Speaker 1>Stone at games Radar. Being forced to stand stock still
<v Speaker 1>and stare at the horrible traffic light, longing it or
<v Speaker 1>in longing for it to turn green is wonderfully tense.
<v Speaker 1>I really actually don't even understand what this game how
<v Speaker 1>it plays, so I'm like, I don't even know what
<v Speaker 1>that's referencing. But I'll check it out on Friday and
<v Speaker 1>see for myself. Eight out of ten from Donovan Erskine
<v Speaker 1>at Shak News. FBC Firebreak is an impressive multiplayer take
<v Speaker 1>on the Control universe. Each job is cleverly designed to
<v Speaker 1>make the most of the games of various play styles.
<v Speaker 1>We'll also enjoying a steep amount of replayability thanks to
<v Speaker 1>job customization. It's a multiplayer game that can give you chill,
<v Speaker 1>give you a chill, casual vibes, and intense, challenging gameplay.
<v Speaker 1>It's all about what you want to get out of it.
<v Speaker 1>Have you spent any time with FBC Firebreak from the
<v Speaker 1>Remedy Corporation.
<v Speaker 2>I spend time with it in a very unideal circumstances.
<v Speaker 2>I was part of their stress test beta, which was
<v Speaker 2>specifically them trying to break their servers and seeing how
<v Speaker 2>much load they could take. So there was a lot
<v Speaker 2>of like connection issues and things like that. But I
<v Speaker 2>really liked the feeling of the shooting in that game.
<v Speaker 2>I thought it felt really good. I thought exploring the
<v Speaker 2>oldest house in a first person perspective was an interesting idea.
<v Speaker 2>I'm just not sure if Left for Dead Survival gameplay
<v Speaker 2>is what I want to be doing with that perspective
<v Speaker 2>and with that world, and again like getting a co
<v Speaker 2>op friends together.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>It's one of those games where I look at it,
<v Speaker 2>I'm like, this doesn't play into the remedy strengths. But
<v Speaker 2>Remedy is so good right now that even doing all that,
<v Speaker 2>this is of a level of quality where I'm like,
<v Speaker 2>I think this is passable, but I don't think it's like,
<v Speaker 2>jump out of your chair incredible. I think there's a
<v Speaker 2>reason this is on PlayStation Plus and game Pass Stay
<v Speaker 2>one because those deals probably made a lot of sense
<v Speaker 2>when they looked at the projected sales numbers. So yeah,
<v Speaker 2>like I don't think it's like terrible. I don't think
<v Speaker 2>it's a shit show or anything. I just don't think
<v Speaker 2>it is like a slam dunk by any regards.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, you know, I bet it's divisive. Actually, I bet
<v Speaker 1>that there will be people who find a way to
<v Speaker 1>get into it, and then there's going to be a
<v Speaker 1>larger audience likely that it's like I just don't get
<v Speaker 1>this and this is not for me. I'm you know, Remedy,
<v Speaker 1>a busy studio, always has been more busy than ever
<v Speaker 1>in a lot of ways. At a certain point, I'm
<v Speaker 1>just kind of impressed that they were able to get
<v Speaker 1>this game made and shipped and relieved now that they
<v Speaker 1>can get back to some of the other stuff that
<v Speaker 1>I'm more interested from them. But I listen, they're going
<v Speaker 1>to have to continue to like grow in some ways
<v Speaker 1>naturally by like training up new people to work on
<v Speaker 1>stuff or have new people that are going to act
<v Speaker 1>as directors on these games. We talked to the director
<v Speaker 1>of this game on the couch at GB at night
<v Speaker 1>over at Summer Game Fest, and it was like, oh, yeah, clearly,
<v Speaker 1>like this is them just like kind of make sure
<v Speaker 1>they keep themselves sharp and can take on bigger projects
<v Speaker 1>and try different stuff. I hope that they don't give
<v Speaker 1>up on this idea of multiplayer games, and I don't
<v Speaker 1>want to be their focus for sure, but like, take
<v Speaker 1>what you learned here and now apply it to the
<v Speaker 1>next thing, and maybe the next thing could be even better.
<v Speaker 1>I hope they get the chance to do that, even
<v Speaker 1>if FBC doesn't necessarily find its audience, which you know,
<v Speaker 1>could ruin everything in that regard. All right, Beat Saber
<v Speaker 1>ends support for PSVR and PSVR two. This is from
<v Speaker 1>sal Ramano at Gamatsu. Yeah. From Gabatsu Beat Games will Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Beat Games will in support for the PlayStation VR two
<v Speaker 1>and PlayStation VR versions of Beat Saber. The developer announced
<v Speaker 1>end of support for updates and downloadable content starts today,
<v Speaker 1>and multiplayer will no longer be available starting January twenty first,
<v Speaker 1>twenty twenty six. The ps VR two and PSVR versions
<v Speaker 1>will remain playable and purchasable with crossby even after multiplayer
<v Speaker 1>support ends. Here's the full message from Beat Games. Let's
<v Speaker 1>see what's worth pulling out here as we look to
<v Speaker 1>the future and plan the next big leap for Beat Saber.
<v Speaker 1>We have made the decision to no longer release updates
<v Speaker 1>for PlayStation four and PlayStation five starting in June. Our
<v Speaker 1>passion for virtual reality remains unwavering. We are excited about
<v Speaker 1>the possibilities that lie ahead and what we can bring
<v Speaker 1>to Beat Saber. Fans who have been on this journey
<v Speaker 1>with us for the past seven years, what this means
<v Speaker 1>for you. This update will not impact your ability to
<v Speaker 1>keep playing Beat Saber. Blah blah blah. We kind of
<v Speaker 1>went over some of this, Okay, Yeah, I remind me,
<v Speaker 1>was Beat Games one of the studios acquired by Meta
<v Speaker 1>or the Yeah, okay, so is that the factor here
<v Speaker 1>or is you know, I guess the other factor is
<v Speaker 1>PSVR two just really doesn't feel like much of a
<v Speaker 1>going concern.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, that's that's kind of my big takeaway is like
<v Speaker 2>the idea that PSV two has created so little of
<v Speaker 2>a foothold this generation, especially like PSVO one had a
<v Speaker 2>lot more luck in the in the ps four generation.
<v Speaker 1>It kind of connects right. Connect one did just fine,
<v Speaker 1>and then no one wanted the connect that came bundled
<v Speaker 1>with the Xbox one or whatever.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and I think one of the other notes in
<v Speaker 2>here is that like multiplayer is being discontinued so at
<v Speaker 2>some point they're probably like, we don't want to pay
<v Speaker 2>for these servers.
<v Speaker 1>January twenty first to next year, they're going to bring
<v Speaker 1>down the multiplayer servers and.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, like it's it's a huge blow for people
<v Speaker 2>who are committed to the PlayStation via ecosystem, the few
<v Speaker 2>that there are, because when you buy a VR headset,
<v Speaker 2>and this has been the problem with VO for years
<v Speaker 2>is the Killer App is still beat Saber, and it
<v Speaker 2>has been pretty much since it released back in like
<v Speaker 2>twenty seventeen or whatever, like ages ago, and might might
<v Speaker 2>even be older than that, but it's that no longer
<v Speaker 2>being kept up to dash on one of the platforms
<v Speaker 2>is kind of a sign of like, oh, the Killer
<v Speaker 2>App is now not available on this platform that wants
<v Speaker 2>to position itself as like a viable alternative to PCVR,
<v Speaker 2>and suddenly it's like, nah, just just get a pcv
<v Speaker 2>R headset, Like if you want to play the actual
<v Speaker 2>version of this game that is still supported, if you
<v Speaker 2>want to play a bunch of other weird shish, if
<v Speaker 2>you want to mess around with stuff that isn't getting
<v Speaker 2>released on PlayStation like it further makes the argument for
<v Speaker 2>not buying a PSVR two head sessh more than it
<v Speaker 2>than the already was one.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I got it. Just you know, the stints your
<v Speaker 1>Death has been around PSVR two since pretty much day one,
<v Speaker 1>when it was clear that Sony just wasn't going to
<v Speaker 1>be putting the software support behind it the way they
<v Speaker 1>did PSVR, and that's that's always their their story with
<v Speaker 1>these things. You know, PSB gets lots of lots of support,
<v Speaker 1>PSV to gets less. Uh, this is kind of a
<v Speaker 1>similar trajectory to that. So and honestly it's kind of
<v Speaker 1>an exacerbated version because there's just really not a lot
<v Speaker 1>of VR games happening generally, so they couldn't even rely
<v Speaker 1>on third party or indies the way that they've done
<v Speaker 1>that in the past. So PSVR two coming and going
<v Speaker 1>and kind of has been gone for a long time
<v Speaker 1>makes this story yeah, yeah, not too surprising. And you know,
<v Speaker 1>what is the future of VR. It's probably just those
<v Speaker 1>metaquest headsets for a while, h you know, and then
<v Speaker 1>mixed reality with glasses at some point. I don't know,
<v Speaker 1>I'm I'm not craving that the way I maybe once was,
<v Speaker 1>and I was never really that excited about it in
<v Speaker 1>the first place. So yeah, just VR in general. What
<v Speaker 1>are your feelings?
<v Speaker 2>Uh, I should be nice because one of the co
<v Speaker 2>founders of the website thought I'm helping on also loves VR.
<v Speaker 1>But there's no money being nice to your co owners,
<v Speaker 1>I've discovered.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, I'm much less enthusiastic about the space. And
<v Speaker 2>I never really have been on board. I've never owned
<v Speaker 2>my own vir head sash. There's never been something to
<v Speaker 2>push me over the edge. Even Half Life Alex, I
<v Speaker 2>was like, I'm okay, I might player in a few
<v Speaker 2>years if it gets cheaper to play, and like if
<v Speaker 2>it gets cheaper to get these headsets and stuff. And
<v Speaker 2>they've just never lowered the entry level like price enough
<v Speaker 2>for me to be able to be like, okay, I'll
<v Speaker 2>get in now and so and yeah there's one Dan
<v Speaker 2>right cushion chash giving sending a memo to his co
<v Speaker 2>owner and hey, grub fuck you. And I think it's just, yeah.
<v Speaker 1>That's where the big bucks are maining. He's got to
<v Speaker 1>have animosity and people love it. Yeah, you're right. VR
<v Speaker 1>is just kind of a thing where I think most
<v Speaker 1>people are in your chair there, where they're like looking
<v Speaker 1>at this thing and being like okay, Like I I've
<v Speaker 1>been waiting. It never happened, so I was never given
<v Speaker 1>that reason to jump in with both feet and spend
<v Speaker 1>a bunch of money. I like my Quest three though,
<v Speaker 1>despite it being a part of the Meta Corporation. All right,
<v Speaker 1>last handful of stories. Someone pulled off a million dollars
<v Speaker 1>Switch to heist. This is from Blair Martinell at Game Spot.
<v Speaker 1>Everyone knew that the Switch two was going to be
<v Speaker 1>the hottest game console of twenty twenty five, but someone
<v Speaker 1>has provided an entirely different kind of heat. Earlier this month,
<v Speaker 1>thieves stole around three thousand Nintendo Switch two consoles out
<v Speaker 1>of the back of a truck without being detected until
<v Speaker 1>it was too late. A semi truck driver. Semi truck
<v Speaker 1>driver reported that the theft on June eighth at a
<v Speaker 1>truck stop in Bennett, Colorado. The driver told police that
<v Speaker 1>he discovered the missing Switch two boxes while performing a
<v Speaker 1>pre trip inspection. Police determined that twenty eight hundred and
<v Speaker 1>ten Switch two consoles were taken. Yeah, so it's well
<v Speaker 1>over a million dollars worth of merchandise. Yes, and apparently
<v Speaker 1>every thing else in the truck untouched. They just went
<v Speaker 1>for the switch toos which I guess it's possible. Open
<v Speaker 1>you open a truck and you see a bunch of
<v Speaker 1>switch tos and you go, well, I know that's worth money,
<v Speaker 1>and then you just grab those and then you go
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, I gotta tell you, I like a good hey,
<v Speaker 1>this fell off the back of a truck thing where
<v Speaker 1>it's like, yeah, I believe. I believe. When I was
<v Speaker 1>a kid, my friend's dad got him a hot Sega
<v Speaker 1>Genesis and that's where I learned about things falling off
<v Speaker 1>the back of a truck. So yeah, though I always
<v Speaker 1>appreciate pulling people pulling off a heist. Although listen, if
<v Speaker 1>you have to look over your shoulder for the rest
<v Speaker 1>of your lives for the Nintendo Ninjas, that's no way
<v Speaker 1>to live.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. My big vibe with these kind of stories is
<v Speaker 2>not my money.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah exactly, it's sure glub.
<v Speaker 2>You should This feels like a very glob core movie.
<v Speaker 2>You should watch American Animals. Okay, yeah, just go into
<v Speaker 2>it almost blind. It is about some dirt bag teenagers
<v Speaker 2>and it's based on true sorry, about some dirtbag teenagers
<v Speaker 2>who decide to feel some valuable from their college museum.
<v Speaker 2>And it's really fucking good. It's very much so up.
<v Speaker 2>It's your shit.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, that sounds fantastic. I'll check that out all right.
<v Speaker 1>Alien Ant Farm says it's a bummer to be removed
<v Speaker 1>from Tony oks pro Skater three plus four soundtrack. The
<v Speaker 1>band whose song Wish was included in the soundtrack for
<v Speaker 1>Tony OKX pro Skater three won't be included in the
<v Speaker 1>upcoming remake collection alongside Tony Oaks pro Skater four. Now,
<v Speaker 1>speaking to the BBC, the band has expressed their disappointment
<v Speaker 1>in the omission. Is it a bummer that we weren't
<v Speaker 1>involved or did they not include us? Absolutely? We understand
<v Speaker 1>that they're trying to bring some new stuff on these releases,
<v Speaker 1>and if you've got to make cuts, you've got to
<v Speaker 1>make cuts. I don't know why it had to be us.
<v Speaker 1>I feel like our song was really good on there
<v Speaker 1>and did really well. Alien Ant Farm is known almost
<v Speaker 1>primarily and exclusively for that Annie Are You Okay? A
<v Speaker 1>cover that they did of the Michael Jackson song Ali
<v Speaker 1>and I Have Farm actually has some good songs and
<v Speaker 1>I actually liked that song on Tony Hawk's pro Skater
<v Speaker 1>three A smooth criminal, yes, and it was the kind
<v Speaker 1>of thing where it's like that's a band I never
<v Speaker 1>am gonna like try to defend because people are just
<v Speaker 1>so annoyed by Smooth Criminal and their cover of it
<v Speaker 1>at this point. But yeah, that's a shame. I like
<v Speaker 1>alien Ant Farm, but I guess. But really, what I
<v Speaker 1>can ask you about this, Alexi, is do young people
<v Speaker 1>still discover like music quote unquote real music or music
<v Speaker 1>not made for video games through video games? Is that
<v Speaker 1>something that still happens? Are there a lot of games
<v Speaker 1>with those kinds of soundtracks?
<v Speaker 2>There's so few games with license soundtracks now when you
<v Speaker 2>think about it, like there's so few games with needle
<v Speaker 2>drops in a lot of ways, like Mixtape obviously is
<v Speaker 2>going to be all vash, which looks super bad. But
<v Speaker 2>like even big Budgish games are skipping on it because
<v Speaker 2>like I'm not sure if you know this, Mine's Eye
<v Speaker 2>doesn't have a radio station.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah I did. I learned that.
<v Speaker 2>Just you drive in silence And speaking of I'm going
<v Speaker 2>to be streaming that directly after this. I'm going to
<v Speaker 2>keep on playing that game.
<v Speaker 1>I've learned some things about that game. Apparently the ending
<v Speaker 1>is unhinged, which I think I might make Dan watch it.
<v Speaker 1>Today when we're doing some other stuff.
<v Speaker 2>You weren't really paying attention during that opening cut scene
<v Speaker 2>because you're you.
<v Speaker 1>But that's right.
<v Speaker 2>The big like keys at the beginning of that game
<v Speaker 2>is like, oh, there's something infecting the AI and it's
<v Speaker 2>aliens from these temples.
<v Speaker 1>I can't imagine why I wasn't interested in that.
<v Speaker 2>It's like alien wriching and shit. When you die, it's
<v Speaker 2>like the Red Rising and shit. Like, yeah, I think
<v Speaker 2>that that game's ending, if I'm to guess, because I
<v Speaker 2>have not beat it yet and I'm still gonna I'm
<v Speaker 2>going to finish that game. Is it was aliens?
<v Speaker 1>Uh? And then that Don't Drink dust Man, who you
<v Speaker 1>get to play as in the free run mode. This
<v Speaker 1>is an important and powerful creature in video games that
<v Speaker 1>we need to unleash on every game. I cannot wait
<v Speaker 1>to really explore Donkey Kong Bonanza as the Don't Drink
<v Speaker 1>dust Man in.
<v Speaker 2>His the next guest character in Tony Hawk.
<v Speaker 1>Of course. Yes, I want it real bad, all right.
<v Speaker 1>And then adult targeted quote unquote Death Stranding anime movie
<v Speaker 1>announced joining the live action film. This is from Eddie
<v Speaker 1>mccoit GameSpot. This had been like mentioned or rumored, but
<v Speaker 1>I guess this is an official announcement now, This one
<v Speaker 1>I think will happen. In addition to the live action
<v Speaker 1>Death Stranding movie, an adult targeted animated movie based on
<v Speaker 1>the games in the works. Deadline reported that Aaron Guzakowski,
<v Speaker 1>who wrote the twenty thirteen Dene Villeneu movie Prisoners, has
<v Speaker 1>reached a deal to write the screenplay for the Death
<v Speaker 1>Stranding animated movie. The movie is being billed as a
<v Speaker 1>similar tone to the adult focused anime movies like Predator,
<v Speaker 1>Killer of Killers and the upcoming John Wick animated prequel. Sure, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>why not?
<v Speaker 2>That sounds like the kind of thing that wild writer choice.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that feel you know what that feels like to me?
<v Speaker 1>Is a Kojima writer choice?
<v Speaker 2>He said, Yeah, Yeah, that's him going. I love prisons
<v Speaker 2>me fucking too. I love Prisoners too. What a great movie?
<v Speaker 1>Prisoners is not the one with Jake Jillenhall, Who's what's.
<v Speaker 2>It's it's Jake Jonen Hall and uh.
<v Speaker 3>And huge John right, Paul d Ye Jacklin.
<v Speaker 2>That's the one where like Paul Dano like broke out
<v Speaker 2>as this guy's weird. Look at this fucking weird guy.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, he was in there will be blood. Right. That
<v Speaker 1>was like, yeah, I was that before or after that.
<v Speaker 1>That's the one where I think everyone. That's where everyone's
<v Speaker 1>like really like, hey, that Paul Dane guy. I have
<v Speaker 1>always been a dan O man. I've always appreciated Paul Dano.
<v Speaker 1>Uh yeah, that's what happened too, watched that movie. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I'm a Dano Danofano. That's right. The Fano Dano's are here.
<v Speaker 1>Everybody stand back, all right. That does it for the headlines.
<v Speaker 1>I got a pull question that I did not get prepared.
<v Speaker 1>So let me just do this real quick and go
<v Speaker 1>over to the community. Tam h all right. I asked, uh,
<v Speaker 1>do you still play Minecraft? I asked that on Monday.
<v Speaker 1>Twenty one percent said yes, thirty eight percent said no,
<v Speaker 1>and forty percent said never did. I'm playing more Minecraft
<v Speaker 1>than ever right now because the kiddos game's fun. It's
<v Speaker 1>a good game.
<v Speaker 2>Is a big number for a game that old.
<v Speaker 1>Especially like like yeah, like that that, like, hey, are
<v Speaker 1>you still playing it? This isn't like have you ever
<v Speaker 1>played Minecraft? So are you still playing Minecraft? One in
<v Speaker 1>five people of the five thousand, one thousand people here
<v Speaker 1>are are playing Minecraft act Minecraft actively. And that's like
<v Speaker 1>one like, obviously Minecraft is huge, the movie was huge,
<v Speaker 1>But that's not even one that's like in that common
<v Speaker 1>conversation right now of like the Fortnites and some of
<v Speaker 1>the Call of Duty and stuff like that, that that
<v Speaker 1>like has slowly entered the quietly massive game just off
<v Speaker 1>to the side. It's not like the quietest one for sure,
<v Speaker 1>but it's like just you know, it just hums along.
<v Speaker 1>And what I've discovered is, boy, did they find a
<v Speaker 1>way to charge people for mods? Like going to Bedrock
<v Speaker 1>Edition and getting everyone off of Java where people were
<v Speaker 1>installing mods for free was a brilliant financial move for
<v Speaker 1>the Microsoft Corporation because they have just they found a
<v Speaker 1>way to charge for everything, and yeah wads, Yeah, you know.
<v Speaker 1>I was always someone like, hey, I would love for
<v Speaker 1>people who make mods to get to get paid. I
<v Speaker 1>just I guess I hope the cut is very much
<v Speaker 1>in their favor, and I don't really know if it
<v Speaker 1>is all right new poll question. We'll get to that
<v Speaker 1>here in a second. Before we do that, though, Lex Luddie,
<v Speaker 1>why don't you tell people where they could find you
<v Speaker 1>on the internet and what you have going on?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, so I just wrote a impressions piece of Yakuza
<v Speaker 2>zero for shak News, I am not as hot on
<v Speaker 2>it as I want to be. Some weird story editions
<v Speaker 2>have been made that I find kind of baffling. You
<v Speaker 2>can go check that out in more detail over on
<v Speaker 2>Shaknews and Rewinder dot co dot uk. I am helping
<v Speaker 2>set things up there where again things going. We just
<v Speaker 2>have new stream overlays set up by the very talented Gyum.
<v Speaker 2>I'll be showing those off in the stream that I'm
<v Speaker 2>doing right after this, I'm going to be playing more
<v Speaker 2>Minds Eye Startman you dot co dot uk. I'm still running.
<v Speaker 2>It's a place for people trying to start out in
<v Speaker 2>the industry and break into games media, and that sees
<v Speaker 2>updates pretty much constantly. We're always posting stuff over there.
<v Speaker 2>We have an active discord and yeah, I'm just kind
<v Speaker 2>of hanging out.
<v Speaker 1>Fantastic new poll question. Are you going to get Donkey
<v Speaker 1>Kong bonanza? Yes or no? We will get look at that.
<v Speaker 1>There's a Kiki everybody, uh and yeah, we'll get that
<v Speaker 1>results of that poll question on tomorrow's show. Here on
<v Speaker 1>Game mess Mornings, Tire on Giant Bomb. Speaking of Giant
<v Speaker 1>Bomb in a little bit, I'm give me a few
<v Speaker 1>minutes to get set up. We're gonna we're gonna play
<v Speaker 1>some punch Out for the Wii. We're gonna I am
<v Speaker 1>going to try to get to Donkey Kong. Won't happen today,
<v Speaker 1>but we'll just play some of the punch Out for
<v Speaker 1>the Wii. That's a great game. Looking forward to doing that.
<v Speaker 1>Dan's gonna be hanging out to.
<v Speaker 2>Programming you with Mine's Eye. I'm really well.
<v Speaker 1>Listen, some people just can't handle the violence of a
<v Speaker 1>man punching the bag gets out of a Frenchman. So
<v Speaker 1>instead just go watch Mine's I, which is much more
<v Speaker 1>tame by comparison.
<v Speaker 2>The Venn diagram is a circle of people into punch
<v Speaker 2>Out for the Wii and Mine's Eye.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, uh, there's a kiddy still right there. There you go.
<v Speaker 1>Everybodyone's everyone's asking for more Kiddy cat. Look at there
<v Speaker 1>she goes. Oh she's playing, all right, I have. Let's
<v Speaker 1>see what else do we?
<v Speaker 2>Oh?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's Wednesday. It's Blake Club. He's gonna look so cool.
<v Speaker 1>Rascal Mitch is back and listen, there's a chance he
<v Speaker 1>beats it today.
<v Speaker 2>I just really hope he doesn't. He'll be so defeated
<v Speaker 2>if he doesn't.
<v Speaker 1>I there was not a lot of progress last week,
<v Speaker 1>but that makes me feel like that makes me feel
<v Speaker 1>like he's gonna be on a roll this week because
<v Speaker 1>he doesn't have two bad weeks in a row. That
<v Speaker 1>doesn't happen for old Mikey. So I think he's gonna
<v Speaker 1>like just crush that thing today. I'm looking forward to.
<v Speaker 2>You know, a video series is good when the viewers
<v Speaker 2>watching it, like me, come away from the two hour
<v Speaker 2>episodes being like, man, I'm fucking beat, I'm exhaustive.
<v Speaker 1>It's a gauntlet to play through. It's a gauntlet to watch.
<v Speaker 1>Did I plug my shit?
<v Speaker 2>No?
<v Speaker 1>I didn't. We're good all right? And then you know,
<v Speaker 1>tomorrow Voicemail Dump Truck, I'm gonna be playing some gex
<v Speaker 1>trilogy with Audie Sorely from Limited Run Games. Looking forward
<v Speaker 1>to that. Gameless Mornings will be back. Game of Mornings
<v Speaker 1>will be back on Friday. Upf We're gonna play FBC Firebreak. Ever,
<v Speaker 1>once you go to giant bomb dot com slash join

<v Speaker 1>your support so we could do even more of this.
<v Speaker 1>We appreciate everyone who has helped us out. So far.

<v Speaker 1>you real soon. In the meantime, let's get this wrapped up. Lexiltti,
