Hello, and welcome to Day three of Giant Bombs twenty fourteen, a Game of the Year Awards ravaganza. How's everybody doing pretty good? Three? I'm doing three. You're doing three? Yeah? Out of three good. I'm basically awake. You're right, three did win our previous category. Okay, that's impressive. Recall that's yes, I remember what happened yesterday. I'm for les. Yeah, I'm impressed. The whole gangs here. Still. We haven't lost anybody yet yet. Fucked it, Surge King, he might be, he might not bomb for this world. I brought in actual money that I can use in the vending machine so I can drink a proper diet soda. I refilled the fridge, Surges, and I cranked up the cold. Don't believe what they say about you. You're kicking twenty three degrees dranking down the cold. I had twenty three. My wife a lot. She's like, I need to crank up the AC. Yeah I can, like, okay, and the four air conditioning. Crank up the cold, crank down the heat, Crank up the cold, crank up the cold. Sounds like a beer slogan, don't break up the cold, Yeah, back, crank up. I don't know, it's it's what turn a phrase. Twenty three degrees might be a little cold for the surge. I turned the thing all the way up to five, had five settings, and this is at least ten ingredients in there that will not freeze. Okay, this has been an there for a long time and it's just perfectly cold. It's not slushy or anything. The same color. It's a good points I appreciate. I think it is susy. Surge were probably better and probably pretty good. That does sound good. That's fair kind of surge mixed with vodka. It's it's okay. You try to yeah, yeah, just okay, Yeah, it's just okay. We'll need that with kickstarts. Mix vodka in there. It's pretty good. You know what's not good? Mixed gatorade and whiskey. Okay, Oh I did that matter? I don't feel like you have to test that. I tried it with several different gatorade flavors and they were all gross. Guies, This isn't the bomb cast. Oh sorry, it's fair. It's a good point. I wouldn't want to mix whiskey with much of anything. Just drink the whiskey, drink the gatorade. Okay, yeah, okay, I'm fine with that. I don't think the whiskey split split with a right. Okay, is it Glacier that's mysly flavor. I like that's my favorite rest that is my favorite kind of speaks to me. All Right. We've got four more categories to plow through today. Uh and as always, there will be spoilers potentially took up oxen. Okay, I've got my yoke right here. That was my my whip sound uh yeah. So yeah, if if you you know there any games that you don't want to hear about the beginning, middle, or end of them, turn this off and you play. I should just leave. Sorry, Drew, last night you played everything I tried. I tried to play Hullion Hearts last night, but I could only start it at midnight because I was occupied. It's not a short game either, no, so I played it until about two am when I was falling sleep in my couch, and then I checked the chapter select see how far I was. It was like halfway through, so that's pretty good. That's I didn't start at the beginning I had been Yeah, I started in my sage well, you made a value of effort off turn off. But now here we are, and we've got I'm selling happy. We've got to talk about video games. Let's do it. So let's get going with first category, Best new Character. Yeah, I've never heard of any of these. There we go, Amanda from D four shit bought three Fall chapters. That's not real. Yes, I hope it's real. Rat Bag from Shadow of Mortor, rat King from Dark Souls two, William Carver from The Walking deads At Season two, Kevin Spacey All Duty Advanced war Fair, Jeremy Irons. Yes, Jeremy Irons, Jonathan Irons, You're right, You're right, Jeremy way cooler. They had gotten Jeremy Irons. It was Jevin Spacey playing Jeremy Irons in Die Heart of the Vengeance. Okay, sure, shovel Knight from Shovel Knight, Pagan Men, Farker I four, Vibrie vip Ribbon, I don't know about them, Vivian Dragon Age Inquisition, Iron Bull Dragon Age Inquisition, Jamy Hendricks Wolfstein, Yeah, okay, Mono Kuma, Duncan, Ropa and Merrick from A Broken Age Part one. So we can delete Vibry instantly. I just since Jeff was so insistent that vip Ribbon was a new game in two new but I think Vibry appeared in other games that made it to the US. Okay, I want to say, is there a fibrary reference in a background of PlayStation All Stars? I don't know. I would probably PlayStation All Stars to know. That seems like the sort of thing that would be in there. Any anyway, that's true, whatever doesn't matter either way, that's no, Okay, that's fine. Fibry is the best character of all years, but perhaps perhaps not for this category. Okay, So I guess, yeah, anybody else? I think so, I have not heard anything of Shipbot. Well, Mannie, let's talk about shipbot for a minute. I'm let me see if a shipbot can talk about himself. You start and I'll look for So, the premise of ship is that you are at least in the stuff that I've seen. What dream Fall chapters? Is that a new game, New dream Fall? Yeah, that came out this year, still making those an episodic Yeah, well they took a long yeah break. So Shitbot is a robot that you meet that is a robot that was sort of jumped and repurposed, and you have to go on first by this really abrasive U woman who is just very angry and cursey all the time. So that's why she calls it in Shipbot, this real got a problem. Shipbot's kind of an idiot. Shipbot doesn't really know what he's doing U. Shipbot isn't really sure where he came from or what his purpose is. There's a lot of really good dialogue with Shipbot, including a point where he discovers that he is really good at welding and he has decided that that is the thing that he wants to do for the rest of his life. Then you have to tell him, no, we need you to go do something, and there's like, okay, I will give up the thing that I love the most to go do this very menial task that you have told me to do. He's a metaphor. Did he name himself? Shipbot? Is very horrible? Woman named him shipbot? Ship bought is incredibly charming. Has he accepted the name Shipbot? Like? Is he okay? I don't think he has a choice. I think he's okay. He's very neurotic. Is he is? He? Is he with it enough to even appreciate what the name shipbot implies. Yeah, he's smart, dude, Okay, shipbot is cool. Smart is maybe not the word I would use. Oh, he's a smart guy, basically perceptive. Maybe he's kind of depressed, I think. Yeah, Yeah, I'm gonna try and find I don't know if I can find any real clean shipbot audio, and I'm gonna look for some ship works pretty blue, right, I look for some shipbot. Shipbot was pretty much the crux of the quick look that we did. He hit the scenes with him. Uh, we're part of that, and that's most most This is somebody talking can't fly. It's easy engage, rare propulsion and horse yeah, engage. I'm not he's this guy. This man's gonna ruin shipot for for everyone. I don't know. It's this is this is the way of Donkey Carr. Yeah no, I've seen this happen before. I'm not dkc in this baby so bad anymore, doesn't so anyway, shipbots. I found ship botting the soundtracks on Country Tropical Freezy his best new character. But which track? I mean? His name is shipbot. It's already a pretty good name. Oh so yeah, so like Alex said, you go through these missions with shipbot and he basically she's trying to report repurpose shipbot. So you gotta be like, hey, shipot, can you talk to other uh, talk to other robots to see if we can uh, you know, do scrubbing walls. He's like, I'm not very good with other people, so no, I think he does a couple of other menial tasks. Can you be a guidebot? And then he sees a bought welding and falls in love with welding. Uh, and then it has to stop welding and just has this like pretty long like sure, I'll do the thing. I'll give up my one thing that I loved doing to do you whatever serving that? What is he serving? I don't even remember. It's it's it's it's it's all very it's it's themes memorable? Is he is? He kind of like the asshole robot from cochor like Marvin from Pitchhiker's Guy to the Galaxy. M that's a better that's a better, better analogy. Good pull. Yeah, and who doesn't like too much like Marvin in a way that is just like they're stealing that. He's not suicidal. Yeah, it's not quite to that level. Is it a big parts of the game or it is all part parts? Okay, I just I wouldn't want to delete him right away, but oh I hope he's staying on till the end. Okay, wait right now, let's delete rat Bad. I don't think rat bad. Yeah. I liked rat I did. I didn't really go anywhere. Yeah. I enjoyed some of his delivery, but yeah, he just vanishes from the store. Yeah. I thought he's gonna be a big part, like at the end. Oh, he turns on here after you helped him get the power or whatever, and then just never happens, right, I think he just got punted off screening. H I never sign, I never saw an I never saw him dying or anything. Yeah, that sucked, all right. I liked him, his character when he's around, but yeah, I don't want to kill him from the beginning. Yeah, it's just like I don't need this yeah shit orc. Yeah, especially by like the middle of that game, I was like, I don't need your help. Yeah. He was basically a walking tutorial, you know, he's just introducing you to the Nemesis stuff. Sorry ship. Yeah, rat out, rat Oot yep, yes, shit, rap out shit. I never got to the rat King. Is that a character or is that just a boss? Is that right after there's all the rats in the one room dud who's sitting on the rock. Okay, oh yeah you talked to him, right, Yeah, you talked to him, and he is the rat King? Oh you know what? I remember when you tweeted a photo of that guy. Yeah, he's pretty good and said something about like he've been up too long or something. Remember Las, a giant rat who's basically he's a what do they call them, the guilds or oh, covenant? He's a covenant. So he's a guy you talked to you, and he since you beat all the rats, you become like an honorary rat. Remember, But it's that area that is the PvP kind of zone that people have to get through, all the traps down in the crypts, get down the crypt So the more you do for him, the more kind of control you get over the traps and stuff in the crypt It's a pretty but he is a he's a fun little character, is he. I only spoke to him a couple of times. I don't remember. Yeah, he's fucking rat. That talks. Yeah, like turtles, sure that they were radical, but this is gonna be a hard cut. Somebody explained to me Mana Kuma that is let me tell you about one. Yeah, go ahead. He's Bear. I don't know that sorright, Yeah, yeah, murderous robotic bear. Yeah, I don't. I'm he's he's funny, but I don't know. This is the Jigsaw. Yeah, yeah, that sounds cool. Jimmy Hendrix, mm hm, what's that You didn't shoes? It's depending on which choice you make and wilfin Stein, you might not see him. So yeah, the American dude, you get this character named Jay Okay, who is he is? Jimmy Hendrix? If he picked yeah, let him live. That's what he looks like. Yeah, I didn't get him. He's got a little thing over his face, but yeah, he plays the thing that sounds like in reality, Like the best thing about that character is his death scene, like the he doesn't do a whole lot in the game otherwise, So I'm fine with Eventually, I just kind of wanted to mention I thought it was kind of it was a clever way to to to sort of tie that stuff together, and I really did like his death scene. It's good. There was some amusing stuff in that game, in that vein. Yeah, like that that like like all the pop music stuff. Yeah, like the news clipping you find that implies like the Beatles were conscripted and like forced to play like Nazi propaganda music. Yeah, yeah, all that. Like Parallel Universe. Stiff has handled really well and was pretty good. What's who sad anything about a parallel universe? That's what the Beatles didn't. So yeah we can we can delete Jay I just I just wanted to mention it, all right, Yeah, okay, that's good. I like Iron Bowl for this list. Yeah, I would delete Vivian. I think she's really she's she's really fucking cocky. I just liked the way she doesn't take any ship but your character she was in she was in uh was she? Yeah? Yeah, she was in two. Yeah. Well iron Bull is iron Ball is better anyway, and he is definitely new right. It's Freddy Prince Junior. That's crazy, come on, is it really? Yeah? It is versatility Huh he's still on board. Yeah, weird o b DSM free full character ends up with Dorian like fuck super insane, at least in the version of the universe like I've done. So he did. He was in Mass Fact three. Yeah, he played a character that was it sounded like Freddy Prince Junior in Mass Effects. He was also a WWE writer for summer years that He's had a lot of stuff from about seven o nine. I want to say, all right, something like that. It's as long as he gets a writing job there. Uh, someone just put Boil from Velvet Sun Down. Yeah. Character. Yeah, these guys in nightclub. Yeah, he's got a nightclub. He wants to tell you about it. Yeah, I would love your story nightclub. All right, Boil told your story about the nightclub. That's really good story. Boil. Yeah, fuck Boil. Oh no, I should we take Boil off the list? I mean, I like, yeah, the best doesn't have to be like, isn't that really a character? Yeah? I mean, if it's about a character that affected us at this table, I think Boiler. Yeah, you're right, you're not wrong about that. Boil is a character. You were playing the role of that character. That's true. It is a role playing game, all right, So yeah he's on there. All right? Is this category shit bought Boil and Iron Bowl. Let's talk about Amanda for a second. Yeah, it's pretty good. Amanda is a literally feral woman who is a cat mentally, I think I don't know. The game hasn't gotten around to actually explaining what Amanda's backstory is. But she is a transient feral woman that lives in your apartments and you can buy stuff from her. But then when you are when you were in your like weird vision, she's an actual cat, right, yeahs too? This is the might okay. Yeah, and she is ridiculous and I I by far the most memorable character in that game. Do you think maybe the fashion designer would would be Yeah, but I liked demand of better. Yeah, she's weird. She spits a rat into your mouth in the opening scene. That's because she loves you. Yeah, it's a present. What's the name of the detective that you work alongside that game? Force case in Case He was pretty good too, Force Caseon or some form of him has appeared in previous sweary game every Yeah, okay, yeah, but he looked the same or is it like a sid and final fantasy thing? I think it's such a it's a similar it's a civil r He's very fat, Okay, but Yeah, it's kind of like the one character that the sweary verse. So do we like shovel Night because he's a night with a shovel? Okay, That's that's the crux and the beginning and the end of my argument. I kinda like his story, and you know, I kind of like the backstory that character. The story the story of shovel Night is like better than it should be for game of that type, but it isn't actually the character itself. No, no, I'm not, I'm not. What was the gist of his him and some other night fighting over lady, right, and he had the nightmares about her following all the time? Well she dies, she was his partner. She's like good night, Okay, yeah, gotcha. Yeah, She's like they were partners in adventuring and she died and he has nightmares about her. Right, Yeah okay, but yeah, should takes shoven that up? Yeah? Yeah, Pegan, tell me about the Pegaman. He's a fun character, you know, it's it's a great paganman' is a interesting dude, you know. It's it's one of those cases where you don't really see a ton of him on screen, but he's he's contacting you every so often. Yeah, I think some of the radio transmissions are pretty good. They are, they are really good. He references Kanye West's Twitter at one point over the radio. Yeah, that that stuff's pretty well. There's another time that he calls you, like so you know, he's a menacing guy, like you're you're pretty wary of him throughout, you know, and like like an hour or two into the game, like it might be the second or third time he calls you on the radio. I wish I could remember how it's phrased. But he basically calls you up and like acts like he's gonna say something, and he's just like I just wanted to make sure you're still there, gonna like click. Let me talk about when Yeah, I think, yes, yeah, he totally does. Yeah. Like so it's like the handsome Jack stuff but way less obnoxious. Well, they don't lean too heavily on that stuff at all. That's that's pretty infrequent. Like he's a he's an absolute psycho. I mean he's like a terrible person. Right. That seems like a fun guy. Yeah, Like I would go to it. If he was throwing a party, I'd be interested in going. Yeah, it might be a character you want to hang out with, you know, maybe maybe maybe from a different it seems risky. Yeah, I go to when events he was throwing. Yeah, I don't know if I want to be I don't know. Yeah, I don't know if I want to be like trapped, you know, like I wonder if he could help me with my bar idea your club. Yeah, is it? Is it tied to saving the whales at all? Because I'm really into that. Yeah. Yeah, you guys would really have a lot in common. You know. What I'll say in his favor is that when they showed the intro with him in it at E three, Yeah, and I was like, oh good, they're making another boss. Here's another totally unhinged adversary who just kills people commors right. Yeah. But then you play the game and it's like he's a totally different character. Yeah, he's not. Even they give him, They bring him to life in a total, totally different way. Yeah. I think he's a fun villain. Yeah. How about Billy Carver. So this is mostly on the strength of Michael Madsen's performance in that game, which is surprisingly good. Carver is, for all intents and purposes, just kind of a not not really a rehash, but definitely like a take on the governor from The Walking Dead. Like he is the leader of a you know, a fairly unhinged society of survivors, and he's pretty easily like pretty quick to punch people in the face or throw them off buildings, that kind of thing. Oh, he's very menacing, like very effectively menacing. And I was really bummed when they took him out of the season pretty early on, like like eliminated or like, yeah, episode three he's gone. But the two episodes he's in, he's fantastic. He's the only part of that season I really really liked. So I think there's something to him being on this list, But unless anyone else has played that season and has similar feelings, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to hold that argument up against some of these other ones. Yeah. Yeah, I thought he was good. I don't I wish he had been used more. Yeah, so, I think I think the season sort of failed him in that regard. He was at a character with a lot of potential. Yeah, I thought Kevin Spacey, I don't think he needs to be on the list. Okay, it's I like his I think Kevin Spacey's performance is good, and it's telling that whoever added this wrote Kevin Spacey because he's not he does not have a memorable name. Uh. And yeah, he's a he's a good villain by call of duty standards and that sort of stuff. And I think the performance is great. But the character itself is you know, like he's not in the game that much. It sort of doesn't matter. He's just kind of Kevin Spacey as like government style sleez bag. Well, Kevin Spacey's really good at like chewing up everything around him. One of those actors. Yeah, and he does that. It's it's one of the things where it's like, yeah, you know, if we were doing like a best performance category or something, yeah, like yeah, you know, like i'd maybe say, like, oh, the performance, the voice, acting and all that sort of stuff is great. But it's a good Kevin space It's Yeah, it's a really kind of character. He plays a lot of them. It's best. Nay, he would win. Yeah, totically not a villain, though, is he how's the cards? Okay, he's played a lot. If he's done some villain his ship in his day. He fits really well in the Call of Duty universe, you find it come up with someone cartoonish. That also, it's more edge to him, it's more of the character is not interesting, Like it's pretty predictable, and then he exits the story and a pretty underwhelming manner. Yeah, he falls out of a can. We like, he falled out of a flaming skyscraper and s by Call of Duty standards. That's fucking nothing. I know, it doesn't know how Water War four three kind of ended. I don't even remember, you know, you hang him by mac slam him through the skylight and then he hangs himself and the light a cigar. But that's really that's pretty cool. Yeah. No, he is kind of like falling off a building to a certain extent, you just keep him hung sort of the same. He gets the Hans Grouper death, which is one of the best deaths in actions. So I think that's why it's like a slow mo. Yeah, let's go, and he's staring right at you. Yeah, I don't, like I'm not talking about the way he died. I mean that like no arc theory, you know, like it's kind of he's one of those villains that thinks that he's got like the moral high ground. He's doing the right things, like he doesn't really know. He's the best death scene again. You know MAYB would be that in Jimmy Hendrix probably, but yeah, I like to killing him in that game. Yeah it again? Yeah, yeah I would kill again a plus plus whoa. Let's talk about Merek for a second. Well, good luck he survived and now he has a robot arm, just like you had kill him all over again. Yeah, I remember liking meriic. I don't really remember why. I like. It's killing me because I can't find any unspoiled footage of tell me about nothing, I know nothing less plays. This is a real hard category. We'll be doing impression. It's like Mary told, like, I really like everything about the because is he a fox for a wolf? Is? I think he's a wolf? He has a saying in the hind he's in the ships. It's my favorite stone type of pilots. You didn't you didn't play Broken Age, right? I did not finish, not deep into it. Yeah? Did you ever meet him? I think so? Like he think I saw him at some point when someone was playing. Whether it was me or somebody else, I don't even remember. You're you're shape or a little kid on on the space ship, and the spaceship is programmed to meet your every need, but it does it in a very rigid fashion. You know, it gives you a really specific routine to follow every day, like its computer mom, go here and eat, now, go here an exercise, now, go here and watch stuff. You know, like you're never able able to deviate from everything that the ship wants you to do. Yeah, and then when you find a way to break out of the routine without the ship noticing, you like tumble down this duct into this like unknown part of the ship and there's like the sly talking wolf living there. It's pretty weird. It's really weird, weir and his voice is like the delivery is like half the character. Like he sounds so like sly and mysterious and kind of kind of ship Like there's not like he's up to something like that you can't really trust. Yeah, Like it's it's really good. And like even the way he looks like he's got really shifty eyes that kind of dart back and forth, and he's he's just like a wolf that lives in the walls of your spaceship, Like it's so weird. That whole game is pretty weird. What are his motives? And I can't find any video of him? You know it stuff well as the resident wolf expert at this table hunting, probably food is what he's up to. Yeah, mhm, I like Ship Bop all right. I also sounds like ship stays on the list. Sounds like you guys, I didn't get up to Iron Bull. I ever got him in my party. I've heard, I've heard Iron Bull is great. He's just got a ton of fucking personality, Like he's really funny, and then realizing it's Freddy Prince Junior just makes it all the better. Yeah. So it's like the more you dig into the kind of the Iron Bull backstory more and kind of what Iron Bull is into iron balls? Alright, no cool, I guess what I'm gonna go with Boil So you're into boy, I'm just ticking boy. I think those three ship bought Iron Bull Boil. Yeah, Man, Amanda Pagan Man and a boil Boil. Yeah what a what a come from behind start of the Boil A Carver off. Turns out everyone loved Ball along Boil got nobody cares that much about rat King. Okay, it's interesting that that's a rat that talks but doesn't make a whole lot of impression beyond okay, Monaicuma. I think Monica is a great character, but I'd rather see Boil get on there. That's what Monica would have would have. We're gonna Amanda, ship Bought, pagan Man, Iron Bowl, Merrick boil in Atlas. Pagan Man has got to go. I think you think he's pretty good. He is pretty good. He's pretty good. Is he one of the best new characters of the year? Not over ship Bought, Iron Bull and Boil No, he's a strong force. Uh, I would say, Amanda, it's probably the strong or you like Amanda over shippot thing carefully. I don't know how to answer that question. I don't know. I think Amanda is crazy and insane. But Shiphot really like you just you just feel for this thing. There's a part in that game where you have to chase Amanda around your apartment because she has stolen a baseball that is the next thing that you need, and she is just like tearing up your entire apartment in cat like fashion. Yeah, but is a full grown woman. There's a part where a Shipot says follow me, and then flies into the sky and then lands on top of a building and you're like, I can't what the where I am. It just sounds sort of character that like every five minute should be saying like follow me on Tumblr. Yeah, if she could talk, sure or type I've decided to start living as a cat welding. Yeah whatever I think I are. We Well, you guys sound really like sh bottle. I like the name ship Bot is pretty good, and the little bits of dialogue I heard sounded like someone squealing over ship bought talking. It's also funny that the the like again, you have to kind of play through it to get the context. But the woman who the ship Bot's owner is a real fucking asshole and it's just like like a terrific asshole, and so naming him shipbot is just so fucking just mean. Yeah, just take this ship bot. Uh it's I can't get over the name. It's a really good name, she says, She's just a really nasty thing, real pot. So it sounds like we're talking ship bought and iron Bowl on the list. Yes, what's our third boil boy, Yeah, boil boil boil Yep, you know what I think, all right, So let the face of the wild Boil support. I don't know that I can argue against it. I think for me, Boil is just a representation of the characters of Velvet Sunday. Yes, right, Like it was almost nominating no Boils the best character. Yeah, in a sea of fantastic characters. Boil represents the epitome of Boil. Is this like that it's going to open a nightclub? Is this like that time the Time magazine gave Person of the Year to you? A yeah, yeah, yeah, But I think it's actually justified. Here Boil name a character that meant more to the people at this table. Yeah, this here, you cannot fuck Boil exactly. You answered young questions. Boy Almos talk to you about drugs. All right. So we're going with ship Bought, We're going with Iron Bowl, and we're going with Boil. YEP. I love this category. Boil is the best dumb category we had this far. And I think the only reason I remember Boiled his name is from Amelik or Melik from the rest of the game is all the fuck Boil Like it's the only reason because I hear that generated voice in my head just being like, fuck Boil, get out of here, Jeff, You're a boil, right, Yes, we've all did Boil at one time or another, whether when you would or not. Who wants to win Best New Character boyle, Look you got Boil on the list. Yeah not. Let's not get greedy here. Choose your battles again. You guys said last time that it's whoever met the most to the most people at this table, or but or if the people stable have a convincing argument for somebody else. And again, I haven't gotten iron Bull yet, but if you guys are way down with iron Bull, he sounds pretty amazing. I predict that I'm really gonna like iron Bull. So I'm going to cast my boat for iron Bull. All right, that's a good way to go. Yes, let's just keep that mentality going for the rest of these awards. Oh yeah, I think I would have liked the rest of Sunset over Drive. So, oh, I mean what you've described if iron Bull sounds, plus that that guy can actually act and all that stuff. Yeah, yeah, iron Ball is great. It's really funny too, like Dragon Age weirdly enough, like it has way more humor than I would have expected for Yeah, for that universe and he sticks out like exceptionally. Well, yeah, it's also for me, you know, like knowing what BioWare has done with that style of character in the past. Yeah, like you know, if this is another mordern type situation. Yeah, he's probably the really really I don't know, a really strong personality. Yeah, in a certain way. It's just huge, so big actually technically should be the iron Ball than it is, like it says the iron Bull now. Yeah, it's like it's it's like Evin just type of I think he named himself too, didn't he Yep, like he wanted it to be the iron Ball iron Ball, So how'd you get their names? Like I gave it to myself. I can't give yourself your own nickname. That's not how this works. It's are you going to tell him? No? Yeah, you look at that. I think maybe not, you know, Yeah, I guess that sounds like it. Yeah, I think You're never gonna play Dragon Age. Just look up Iron Bull sex scene. I'm gonna I'm playing alright. What Oh, I've watched the Iron Bowl sex scenes. They're they're pretty phenomenal. Yeah, and like the eighties I did, but not recently I'm gonna VHS tape. I don't think those are those aren't out on DVD. You got a time to square back when you could get that sort of the video tape of the number on it. Yeah, things have changed. No, that's just insects fighting, all right? Or are we settling then? Yeah? I am. I am okay with that. Aaron Bull takes the best to new character. Thenations the Iron Bowl, take a job, Boils Junior. See you next year. Maybe boy Wail gets that nightclub open, yeah, spinoff Gating maybe next year. So you're called Boiled Nights, the nightclub and the spinoff game. And the name of the club is the name of the club is called the Old Boil. So who writes off boil boils? All right? Irish night club? Yes, now club, yep, all right. Let's move on to the next category, which is best early Access experience, which means, uh, you know they have that early access thing on Steam. I do which one of those games do you have the best experience with? So this is just from the Steam Early Access program? Uh, I guess games. But most games are stuff that has planned for a release that hasn't come out. I can say it's stuff that isn't exclusive to like backer rewards from Kickstarter, everything you could buy into, but their points. I think like Prison Architect is a good example where they ran that independently. But that's the same concept. Okay, so if you if you that is in fact on but now it's you're right, you're right. So if you can pay money to play something before it's out, yeah, just I think this is kind of just like, you know, there are a lot of games on early Access that are barely games. Like Pro Wrestling X is up there, and that's not a thing that's fucking despite the fact they've been working on that for like twelve years. Yeah, trusted. Every week we Alex and I are going through that list of stuff and then say all right, let's try this, and then coming back the next week in the production meeting. Thanks. So this is the stuff that, like, you know, whether it's that the updates have been meaningful or that they launched with a significant chunk of a game that is actually like good and fun. Yeah, yeah, something, yeah exactly, something it's like worth playing now even though it's not whole. Yeah, how much contents on Reckfast right now, Well, let's let's read the games that we currently have on the list, Gang of Beasts, crypt Of the Necrod Answer, Nuclear Throne, day Z, The Long Dark Crawl, Reckfast previously known as Next Car Game, Bro Force, and snow All Caps. I'm not familiar with that one. What's Snowboard? Yeah? Same, okay, so would have would have been on this list exited beta last year, say last year. I guess it's interesting. It just interesting little thought experiment. Okay, sure, think about that. I would say for me, Gang Beasts, Encrypto, the Necker d Answer or two of my absolute favorite those are for mes on this category. I think Gang Beasts had like a rough start when it first actually got onto Steam, like the builds we were playing prior to that, you know, they they went and overhauled a lot of the back end, like it's something that will probably make that game better in the long run. But it actually took a step back as soon as it got onto Steam. So do we count this stuff before it was on Steam as part of that? I mean it was accessible then. I think like I was disappointed in Gang Beasts when it first made its way into early access, So I guess I would say like the experience was lessened as a result, if we're just looking at the name of the category and kind of going that way, I think they have made adjustments to it, like they're they're getting there. So like, I still feel pretty good about it. But it's not like some home run Slam like just lock like well, I mean sure for me it is. I'm saying personally that I get that. I don't think any of us here give a shit about Daisy and shouldn't be on the list. I'm taking it off. I think I think Daisy is an interesting Yeah, it's real tough to play. Still, Yeah, we had some good times and Daisy. Yeah yeah, yeah, once you get past thanks to the folks who helped us out in Daisy. Yeah, not everybody. The only person who's really spent any time with the Long Dark. Yeah, that game is is is pretty cool, but uh, I don't think it's gonna I don't think it was my best early access experience. It looks popular survival game. It's a survival games one. It seems like kind of a need one. Yeah, it's got a real cool look to it, but that might be for next year's I think I'm pretty much the only person who played snow In here I messed a little bit at one point. It's not bouring in ye to do like tricks and stuff. But really, I think the part I had the most fun with was just like going down a hill, uh and teleporting different parts of the mountain, just skiing around. It feels really good, it looks really good. It doesn't need to be on this list, but I just wanted to talk about him because it like snow Okay, I like knows got some good hits. Yeah, as far as like best and the most complete early access experienced, bro Force was almost like complete by the time it hit early access. They've actually had like delC and they've added like a map editor and stuff, and they keep adding new characters. It's still early access, still early access. Yeah, it's given. I don't like playing, but it seems like they're they're doing it right. It was one of the things they almost feel like they launched with too much game in a way, because it was like they launched it and they played it and went like it's all right, cool, and then like they keep making updates and I went back to it when like, oh, you've got like an over world map now, I guess okay, Like I feel like, I still have gotten my fill of bro Force, but sure, like even when it went up it had like what fifteen characters or something like that and two player mode and it all worked fine. Was the expendable stuff part of that or a separate that was a standalone Okay? Yeah? Yeah, I think Krawl is a good Early Acts experience, but not a game I like playing. I just don't think I like the game. Think I'm the only one here who really really likes troll. I like the I like something. Yeah, I like it, yeah, which is maybe maybe really good for this category, just conceptually, like they have some some work to do. Yeah, I don't, is it like well, I just I just I think I wanted to like it more than I like. I don't. I don't know that they've added enough to that thing since it came out. There's still just some problems I think when you're just waiting, like when you're just the ghost. They added a little bit more in the last couple of versions, but like for me, especially having that same boss fight waiting at the end of every right, every run, Yeah, it was really unfortunate. There may be another one in there at this point, but I don't know. How you access it. They may have anybody else I should say, I have a good time with bot Colony this year impossible. You can have a time with it, that's for sure. You can have good end time. Uh similar time space thing. So no, I won't add it. That's just you know, I'm not gonna sit here and argue my case, you know, put it on and take it off. Yeah, I'm gonna save my arguments for another category your argument points. Yeah, I'll start with pro force, like, yeah, it seems like no one's super hot on it. Like, I think I'm the complete demographic for that game. And even I played it for fifteen twenty minutes and I was like, all right, I get it. Yeah, yeah it plays well, but yeah, it gets pretty fast, and some of the characters I think are a lot less fun to play than others. Yeah, like it my guy who just throws turkeys or something. Yeah that kind of sucks. Yeah, it's it's all right. It's a good idea. Is this a love or hate the game category? I mean as it's not. Definitely, there's a little bit of it. I feel like the game kind of has to be enjoyable for that to really qualify. Yeah, I mean, you know, this this category is here because these games aren't eligible in any other category. So to an extent, this is just you know, early access games. We like, we are acknowledging that these are games that are not done that we still like. You know, what came out this year is that I'm finishing a star Forge actually came out. I think it released yeah wow really yeah, And I tried playing it and it's just a complete tangential side but it's actually really hard because it turns into like, you know, like a minecrafty kind of thing. We have to go get resources, but you can't just dig to the center of the earth. I think there's like a free play mode, but that's like yeah, so like I don't know. I actually tried been prepping it for a quick looking boy, so I would say as an unfinished experience, it was probably better than yeah yeahs plate of Nuclear Throne. I haven't spent a significant amount of time with it. I feel like it's a game I'm going to really like, and they seem to have done early access really well. I think that this is that's actually probably the winner of this category with Nuclear Throne. You know, it's one of those things where like if we're talking about best early access experience and everything that encompasses that, Like the game has changed in very significant ways over time, but it launched strong, and they've been very open with the nature of their development, with very frequent updates the stream of that game's developed. Yeah, that's actually, that's not It's one of those things. No, it is not. It is still early access. He just only added the Throne like a couple of months ago. Yeah, like you weren't able to beat that game for a long time. I've heard so much about, Like it's super popular, isn't it. Yeah, it's yeah, yeah, it seems like it. I don't I can't say for sure, but yeah, I think that that's that's a really cool game out of the gate and the stuff they've been adding, you know, over over time, I think it's been good. And I think very specifically the the experience, like the experience of watching the development and participating in the development as someone who buys into that. I'm not sure there's a game on this list that does that exactly, Like best early access experience that is Nuclear Throne, like by ad buy a mile. I like that game quite a bit. I think everything you just said also with the last script of the necrodanswer though with the exception of the crazy streaming, because obviously they're not doing that, and then they don't update as frequently. Yeah, and I think they're doing it. But I feel like every update for that game has been good. But that's the thing. They started out Okay, maybe very good. I haven't I haven't necessarily followed it. They've kind of neat. They've made very significant additions with with every patch cool, and every time you boot it up and there's a new patch, you just get a strange log of here's all the new stuff that you're about. That's been the kind of one of the annoying things about something like bro Force, Like as they made updates, it's like you you look in the Steam notes, like you'll see some stuff, but it hasn't always been clear. Like I've definitely loaded that game up and been like, this is the same fucking thing, Yeah, what's what's going on? And even though you know there they have kind of an in world menu. You know, you're in like a little hub when you're jumping around to the different staircases, and like they even explain in the game world when things are not done. You know, it's like stuff that's still in development if you try to access it. So you're like coming so and so play stages and they'll say like, hey, you can play this, but I know that, yeah, there will be other enemies and things in the future, which I think is it really it's really cool to communicate that in the game, right. Half that part of the experience is that, hey, you guys go around here, but know what you're getting into. Yeah, I think I think that probably belongs on the list. I think that top three they've probably list. They even dumped the entire soundtrack just in the game install directory for you to That's pretty good, brab if you want it. It's a really good sounds really anyone Jeffreys refast is great. Yeah. I feel like maybe they've been a little slow in the updates and stuff like the I played that game about three days ago and it hasn't really advanced that much. It's one of those things where like kind of almost the more interesting part is still that physics demo that's technically not in the game. It's a separate launcher that they don't update. It's a just a little physics test like that's kind of cool, but like the game itself is a demolition derby game with really good car smashing up physics, that it is still not the demolition derby game that I want as a someone who actually goes to those has been involved with demolition yea, but you have yeah, uh, and so like it's that's still kind of frustrating to me. It's not finished yet. Yeah, absolutely they could get there, but I feel like that you know, they're having not been they're having a ton of updates and and it's I think there's a ton of potential in that game, but yeah, I mean in terms of just like you know, like are they using early access right or wrong or whatever? I feel like it's just kind of here's an unfinished version of the game that they're going to patch a kay Usionally, Yeah, that physics demo is pretty great experience. It is really outstanding. Yeah yeah, but I think they were selling that before they were even on Steam, so it was like that it was kind of available separately beforehand, which I don't know how much that actually matters. But and it's already gone all right, okay, has been taken off the clear Where are the word? This was going, I really like those three. I think that if the argument is for a Nuclear from that's the one I haven't really played. But if people are strong feel strongly about it, that seems fine. It's specifically what they're doing about the development of that game around the game, which is also Yeah, it's the sort of thing that if you are a fan of a game that is in development enough to you know, like, buy an early access version of it and follow development at all like they are, they are out there providing that publicly in a really crazy way. So you're saying the experience of that game in early access is the best. Yeah, necessarily the best game experience of the game, but it also might be in the case of where these three games are at, actually I would say that is the best game a cover those three. When they're all done, maybe they'll will feel differently, But crypt is incredible, I think. I think, I think an answer is like five times ten times more fun than Nuclear Throne. But that's just as a game. Well, there's what was that The star Bound was this year two? Right, No, that started last year last year and early access okay, but it's still early access. Hyper Light Drifter co Star Bounds They had some hot and heavy updates early, and then it seemed like they kind of started letting people down. I definitely saw some frustration about where Starbound was headed after some initial hype. I haven't checked in on it in a while, though. I'm a fan of Gang Beast, but I am with you. When it came to steam, Uh, I thought maybe I was playing it I get wrong or something. Yeah, there were some like performance issues and stuff, they take the engine something, something weird happened. Yeah, but I had a really good time with you guys and Gang Beasts. Yeah. So I don't know if that is the game itself or that's the boil effect. Kryp seems school, and and and Nuclear Throne seems seemed cool. I haven't played either. I like hard. Do you think Nuclear Throne is too hard? Yeah? I've never made it past the sewer. It certainly has a lot in common with Splunky in terms of it, you know, there's not these multiple characters, but it's meant to be that kind of Yeah, I don't know. I think Nuclear Throne is alto more just like raw skill challenge, you know, it's just like how well can you aim and dodge? Sure, it's just kind of a pure action game. Yeah, but I mean by the virtue of how it dolls out health or doesn't dole out health, like you have to be careful in a way that you know, most action games don't demand of you. Yeah. I really enjoy it. Yeah. I think it wins this category for a ton of different reasons. Yeah. Yeah, I'm cool with it. I'm cool with it. No argument here, I'm just cool. All right, all right, let's move on then, So don't blow it. Yeah, it'll be like, what's disappointing now, it's like set up to be most disappointed. A late breaking category joins the fray as in, like right before this podcast, we came up with this. So let's see how it goes over Best console exclusives is the name currently? What does that mean? It means which console had the best exclusives? What does that mean? Okay, so some games are only available on one platform. They're often published and possibly funded by the company who makes that. Platfor only available on one platform, one console platform and the PC. But just like the industry does it large, we're going to ignore the PC. Okay, so this is we're taking the piece at some point that's not fair fight, yeah, because the multitude of games that are only on the PC, like, it just makes this a really boring category because it's just like, of course it's the PC, so the PC would have won, so let's just take it out. It's basically we're saying, oh, let's make it a fight. Yeah, okay, you know, you know, and there's kind of an you know, well, I would just like to say to anybody who thinks we are snubbing the PC, that is not the case, because we think the PC is maybe a little overpowered. Yeah, if anything, like, we've created a category that's a bum fight. Yeah. By by eliminating the p's way uglier way of saying what I was about to say, which you know, you're acknowledging the consoles catered to a certain market, right. There are millions of people who just want to buy a box, put it under the TV, and stick games in it and have them work. You know, that's not really the same thing I was saying. I'm not saying that people that enjoy console games are bums, Okay, I just want to make I'm saying that, compared to the magic power of these consoles, are holding bindles on sticks and riding the break. Sure, well, so currently we have three consoles listen, okay, okay, what are PlayStation four missing? At least one console here? Xbox one interesting? We you I'll let you write into uya if you like soul Fjord. No, we're good, thought about it. We're okay, we're not acknowledging the three DS or I mean, if you want to make an argument for three D, I mean, they're they're not going to crack the top three. There were almost no exclusives for the Vita. Vita Vita is a cross by machine for the iOS. I think that runs into a little bit of the name of the category is best console exclusive. Yeah, okay, sorry, So we're just debating a winner here basically out of the three. Well, if you we could debate that one of these is so bad that we don't even want to nominate it, if you want to go the spots. So that's well, let's let's let's just start with I mean, there's not that much to talking about for some of these, so let's just start Like PlayStation four, what are we talking about? Sorry, son, let's before we're talking about Binding of Rebirth, Yeah, which is that's the only console that is available on Uh. Yeah, you're right, Blacklight Retribution, we're talking I'm sorry, that came out last year. Drive Club Club. We're talking about Daylight. We're talking about Drive Club. We're talking about DC, about DC Universe came out last year. Sorry, right, we're talking about Drive Club but we're talking about Final Fantasy fourteen, A Realm Reborn. Huh. We are talking about ho hokum, Infamous Second Son, Little Big Planet three, MLB fourteen, the show Octa, Dad Dad, Last Catch, Counters, Rogue Legacy. M hm. Uh So we're not this qualifying ANYPS four stuff that's like cross Buyers anything like that. Yeah. No, we're kind of just saying doesn't appear on the other consoles, but it can be on PC. Yes, okay, console that freas at the end of the leta, especially in the PlayStation stuff. Okay, that's it's basically the one Big One was in let's talk Xbox one. Xbox one had Sunset. Yeah, well yeah, the Big three from this from this holiday Sunset, over Drive, forts A Rise in Too, master Chief Collection, yeah, and D four Yes, yeah, yeah, I'm sorry, excuse me, The Big Four, Central, Spotlight, Central Spotlight. We were talking about Halia, Halo, Project Spark. Yes, are we talking about Shape Up? Shape Up to the Streets, Super Time Force, titan Fall, tight Fall earlier in the year. That's basically time nothing else in the first half the year. There wasn't a lot in the early part of the year. Month there's kind of tighten Fall show for a long time. Didn't time for us make it out on both eventually? No, No, it's just Xbox Vulgar or The Viking. I was just gonna say on any other platform, sucking Vulgar or the Viking. That game's great. That came out exclusively, Well, came out on Xbox ONRN. It's only on Xbox here last month, yeah, last month. All right, let's talk some we you. Yeah, let's talk for you, Captain Toad, Captain Toads brothers for we you eight dot Com Country Country. Yeah, those are all really good warriors. Well, it is an exclusive, so we're counting it. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, games pretty all right, go on, it's all right, it's a game that it's pretty good. I'm sorry, Doctor Luigi was December thirty one. Shovel Night, Shovel Night. Yeah, right, now it's on. But if we're not counting that, yeah, we're not. We are not counting that, So then Shovel Night counts. Uh, Sonic Boom on. The Sonic Boom is only on the we you guys, all right? All right? Push Moo World, Yeah, those are good games. Uh Pushmo there's just another Push Moo. Yeah your eyes you Yeah, that's kind of what we're looking at here. I mean, I think I feel like we U has the highest high in terms of baying that A two. I think that's kind of like the crowning. Like this game only appeared on one platform Game of the year. If we were doing best exclusive game, I think that would win it. Yeah, but also that is maybe the only game on the WU list that I'm interested in it at all. People love Mario Kart eight, myself and people general. Okay, okay, this table this table game. I think it's the best Mario Kart yet. Oh man, that DS version note it's really good. I like that. Yes, But that said, I love Mario Kart eight. It is a fantastic Mario Kart game. The DLC for that game is even good. Yeah, it really good. Knowing how Nintendo tends to be with DLC. That could have gone so wrong. Yeah, that's an incredible game, isn't implemented in kind of a Nintendo esquay of just like oh, you probably could have done this in a way that like it's all cosmetic DLC. There's tracks tracks, okay, but but like the new like the new cars and stuff are still only available if you bought it, right, That's no, they ended up. They ended up. I don't think you have to buy them in order to see them when you race, so use with the vehicle. With the vehicles, you can see that if you don't buy the DLC, but you cannot, ok Okay. Great. That was the thing that like when they first started talking about it sounded like they fucked this. You were doing like it? Yeah, they were gonna screw that up. Okays tell me you. Yeah. The way I look at this as PlayStation four had Infamous was their big one, which I like Infamous, and that didn't really blow away. I was in this category and I'm a huge I was a big informist fan, and I found that game extremely disappointed. Yeah, I mean I just like, generally speaking, I think Sony's first party stuff is like it's been a mess. This here uninteresting, Like Drive Club was a mess and like they're exclusives. I mean, and they're exclusives. I mean the third party stuff has been around, you know, like exclusive Destiny Strike right and you know whatever you get Diablo or like, and they didn't have they didn't have many like Little Guy exclusives, and Free was broken. It's broken the same way Drive Club is. Remember when we did that quick look and it was all fucked up. Oh yeah, it is just as fucked up today, if not more so so that game. What about all they're like according the Indiana When I'm making my decision between you know, Xbox or PlayStation, I was like, okay, play Session is gonna have more there. But already Transistor really secret ponchos just came out, but its apparently not happened in that game. I don't know, it's not very far. I got an email from them today saying like we're working on the matchmaking issues that some people have. Also it deleted all of my data and my characters. Yeah, I think the Xbox one is worth considering. There is some really good stuff on there, you know, D four I think since it Overdrive is pretty great. Despite me forgetting about Forsa after that first week I played it. That first week was pretty awesome. Forces is a really good game. Have you heard the titan Fall? I have like titan Yeah, I like that game. It's really good games. The only like first person shooter multiplayer game that I spent any time with. I think, I think it's not as good as Call of Duty personally, but you know that's not really your category. Yeah, it's not the best. It's titan Fall beter than No, Okay, titan Fall is pretty good. The multi player. I think I had more fun with the titan Fall multiplayer than Call of Duty. It's close, but I you know, I really like the Call of Duty campaign. But for me, it was telling them when when they added that playlist that was titan Fall without the Titans. I went back to it said this is awesome. Really yeah, I like the Titans. Yeah. I mean, Sunset and titan Fall are both awesome, awesome games. But I mean look at the WU and honestly, I think, I mean, I think I don't think especially highly of Sunset Overdrive. The more I think, I think, I think the reality is that no one platform had a ton of really awesome exclusive games for them, I think that we had were sending. Yeah, I mean absolutely the U is by default, by its utter lack of third party support, almost every game on the WEEU is exclusive to the WEU. But that percentages are just better for that system. But you know, it comes down to just like how much do you actually care about those games? And it sounds like that if we go around the table, like all of us at least have one, if not multiple games that we can look at and go like, yeah, that's it's a fantastic game. Yeah, there are multiple Those exclusives on the WU will be in my top ten. It's just a lot of really great games. And Smash and Marrow Kart are going to be a couple of those games that I'll go back to two or three years from now if I have people over or something like, those games are gonna last a long time. You can't, You're you don't know that, Like maybe it's always like streams of the way you treat most Nintendo games like that, there are people that still go back and play that goddamn in sixty four stuff. Still, you know, like it's like those are the kinds of games that are built to last, Like that, sure, but I think I think with crazy people. I think there are a lot of crazy people who like video games. Man, but we're we're talking about us. We're not crazy, that's not true, not crazy. We're the only same people that's right left us at this table. We're the normal ones. Guy in A two is a great game. We're the inmates running the asylum just down. I think I think we you it's gotta be alone. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, totally. Ban is a fantastic game. Yeah, Captain Toads should have been three dollars on an iPhone to the right, three dollars. That game should be like right next to Monument Valley and some sort of like best new Games list on the app store, Donkey Knell, you know what was all right? No, actually, now you mention you know it was sort of just just like remember how it goes? Yeah, I'm funky flippers. What's my favorite track on the probably a track Simeon Hoe Down. That was Simon Shuffle Monkey Metal. Uh. Yeah, much much like Jeff Boston Nova. I don't care out like eighty percent of the games on the WU, but I recognize that they were made with Kraft, that they're quality products, and they're like the best versions of those games that Nintendo has produced. Yeah, I don't even like Smash Brothers, and I've been having a lot of fun with the new Smash Brothers. So it's I feel like they they they they they nailed all the games they needed to nail this year. You can make an argument that it's the best Match Brothers, and you can make an argument that it's the best Mario card came out this year on the WU, and those are two just beloved series. I think the WU is in this like extraordinary position just by virtue of so many of those games being exclusive that if we had the worst console exclusives, it would win that as well, because Sonic Boom came out this sure and this tropical Freeze game whatever, you know, but you know, High Roul Warriors like that. You know, there's like stuff that came out You're just like, man, fuck that shit. But you know, like it's it's the one It's kind of the one benefit that system has is you know, everything is unique for it in a way. Does that make this category sort of inherently unfair? Well no, no, I know, I think look at look how badly so I think Sony's first party stuff has been like middling for years, and this year was especially and the Drive clubs Fox, like, you know, like should we just take PlayStation four off of this and just make it kind of what I was doing? Yeah, yeah, because I don't think like it even deserves to be really denominated. I think I think if you miss a second or Infamous and Drive Club doesn't even but there's some transis transis. But but I do think that they have almost an obligation this year, or had an obligation this year to make give a reason for people to buy that console over another PlayStation before and the Xbox One. Right, make games that showcase the particular power and strength of your system. Right, there's a big year for people on holiday season to be like which one am I going to buy? And it just seems there's a price point battle rather rather than a games battle. Well it's it's the battle for third party stuff, and that's kind of how it always has back to a certain stuff. But it seems like that's that's where that's where Sony has put it's interest is you know, it's like, well let's go lock up some exclusive Destiny stuff and and like they did that, so they did not get call of duty, but it seems like that's where their interests are. Yeah, and then like, I don't think. I think it's gotten real tough for consumers that don't follow this day to day to realize what the heck is the difference? Like what is the different between the PS four and an Xbox One? Yeah, totally. Meanwhile, you know exactly what the difference between those systems and the EU is. Yes, or by virtue of this decision, or are we implicitly telling people to go buy a WU. I'm actually yes, Yeah, I think I think we're saying like it's probably like it's a good time to be clear and say absolutely not. I think I'm saying, but you buy a PC, and then if you want another console made by OU, I'm saying you should actually get a WEU because there are some really amazing games. I'm saying if you like this specific type of amazing game and find those types of games amazing, then you would get a lot out of a WIU. If you don't, you will play band at a two and go, what the fuck am I doing with my life? I'll play Band at a two again? Yeah, I don't want to hang out with anyone who would ask that question after playing band at A two. No, I'm saying, when you look at the rest of the library, No, I know that. Yeah, this it is certainly different. All right. Well, congratulations to Nintendo and the WU coming out of nowhere taking it. Yeah, that's great. No, it's a super strong year for them. I felt that way coming out of E three, you know, like the even some of the stuff they have coming next year. I think that that they are. They are making good on games for that system that are worth playing. Yea, even if they don't take advantage of the screen and the unique hardware, like they're at least like you know, like I look at Splatoon and go like, fucking yeah, man, I want to play some fucking Splatoons. I actually really want to play Splatoon. And they're being really good with all the controllers stuff too, because like they're not doing the game pad stuff, but pretty much all these games we talked about play great with that pro control. It's like my primary controller. Yeah, multiple games from them allowing like a crazy range of inputs. Yeah, like that that would have been a big best trend if we had not killed the category. I mean he's just like, you know, like with Smash Brothers. You know, one of the problems we're running with the Xbox and the plays the four It's like these multiplayer games come out, it's like, I'm not gonna go spend two hundred and fifty dollars on three like I dar is gonna come out and it supports eight players locally, right, and that's It's like that game seems awesome, but what are you How are you going to get that many controllers to get you cost? That's crazy? You know. It's one of those things where it's you just have to hope that everyone who wants to play owns the Xbox One and brings control and bothers to bring it with them. One hundred and eighty dollars. Yeast. It just went into a box and just found all my own week controllers like Boom, good to go. Yea where you were one of the lucky ten people who found one of those GameCube adapter things, yes too. Can you make one of those? Is hard to make? Probably soldered together. That seems like something you should investigate, should get to work on that premium content. And comes twenty fifteen, I got some Magnets. I got a Windows drive for everything is Magnets. All right, let's move on to the next and final category for the day, the best debut, which is basically, you know, the first time we've seen or heard of this game, or it's it's special without using business talk, yeah, basically brand new game. A good job on if you're taking a risk and not making a making a piece of sh but you know, it doesn't squel to something, but it doesn't. Sometimes I feel like the word debut implies there will be a follow up, But this doesn't have to be a franchise starter necessarily. I think it's important, and like this where we are now, where you build one game and then you need to, you know, get your money's worth, so you make sequel, secret squeal sequel to have some new ship come out. Yeah, totally. But but also what I'm saying is that you don't necessarily expect there to be a jazz Pot two or something like that or not. Actually yeah, yeah, it's especially in some of these cases you hope it's kind of a one done but still a great debut, such as these Valiant Hearts, The Great War Shovel, Night Sunset, Overdrive, Bravely, Default, Middle Earth, Shadow of Mordor, Defour Dark, Treens, Don't Die, Alien Isolation, Titan Fall, The Fall, Jazz Punk, Velvet Sundown, and WW Supergard Wow, what a great debut. Well, it's great every time you write that, and he has to say, if we're gonna start adding in this iOS stuff, I would say, monument value should be at least be considered. See what you've done and go yeah, actually play m hm. I mean, are we really are we? Are? We? Just? Are we disqualifying anything that like comes from a property that's been around. I think that if it's a licensed property like Alien, that stays because it doesn't necessarily have ties to the previous Alien game. But in case like Hearthstone, because it is just another game set in another game universe, I don't think that that should be considered. Okay to be disagree, but I don't get it just because it's set in the Warcraft universe. Yeah, I mean it's a totally different spinoff. It's a spinoff, but it's also a totally different game than what World Warcraft is. But like we wouldn't have considered like, oh, StarCraft Ghost. You know, that's like saying like should we consider a Call of Duty advanced warfare because it's the first advanced warfare No, but it's another shooter. This is a card This is a card battling game that is based on an MMO slash strategy game. I don't think property. I feel like, you know, Sion Isolation is a spinoff from the movie, but not like all the other same game series, Like there's no game series that Isolation spends off from. I don't know. Yeah, it's it's licensed from a different property type of media. I mean, I'm willing to work within those confines. I would just like to make a conscientious objection and say that I think Harstone is one of the best debuts of the year. Yeah, noted me too, I noted, sure, fine, congratulations, Like it opens up people to an entire genre that they may have never did that for me. It did for me. I never would have played the DCG means sort of any just adding games Transister. I really like Transistor. I like the game playing Transistor. I didn't really care that much about Transistor. You suck. I'm sorry. Yeah, you're asking with you, like, you know, there's some cool stuff in your Transistor, but it did not grab me. Yeah, I'm glad we talked about checking enough. I enjoyed that game with Threes. Yeah great, I mean considering what Threes ultimately spawned, and I'm looking forward to the sequel we get to four is it'll be something. What about Left Trousers, It's great. It's a great game, standing game. I don't think it beats several of the other games on this list, but I did really like Left Trousers. I only wrote down WW Supercard because I thought it would be a funny thing to make Brad say it again. I'm just gonna cut that now. Okay, Mission acomplished. Yeah, for a couple of reasons. One, it's technically not a debut. It's a reskinned version of a basketball that's fair so so also fun that game. I hate to I hate to just like lean toward the obvious big budget games, but I feel like suns Out over Drive and Shadow moret we're both ye, so we were cool with the Middle Earth stuff that we're not saying we're not gonna do it. It's a totally different franchise. It has nothing to do with any previous Lord of the Rings game franchise. I think Middle Earth should stay. I sense it overdrive. I feel like I'll lose this argument, but I just don't really like that always so much better. I'm with you, I'm with you. I'm with you too, like like it's it's just saying all that don't know why people. Yeah, I just I'm like, so I have played a later save that had some stuff unlocked. I've got the air dash if that makes yea. Yeah, that is the difference. That's the last big upgrades first mobility and stuff. Yeah, I think completely changed. I don't like the story that a lot of the stuff about with the way it's presented, I don't like. As much as I like that it is a colorful game, I don't necessarily like the look of the world that much like I think. I think it's corny. I haven't finished the Boy Scout mission, if that's a I think the most notable thing about that it is sort of a return to form for Insomniac in terms of the whackiness, and I totally disagree. It seems like this super forced attitude in a way that like Ratchett never quite had. I wasn't just I wasn't talking about that so much as just like this is a very frivolous, silly game. Yes, I use yeah, it's yeah, Like this seems like the pendulum swung back after Fuse got all the life sucked out of it, and this is the game they made. Hopefully they got it out of their system and they can find a better middle ground next time. Like I just don't it's it's I don't like it. I think suns or Drize a tremendous amount of fun to play, like as someone that was such a huge ran up jets at radio, Like if you play over drive right like or in the right way, that you can like never touch the ground, like by the end of that game, I'm wall running, I'm dashing, I'm I'm grinding on these rails like I would never touch the ground. I'm just traversing miles in my I was like anyways, running around was fun. So maybe that's my problem with it. Maybe that game makes me feel like I'm constantly playing it wrong because I'm not having that much. You just you just get better at that, Like I feel like everybody goes through that first couple of hours. I feel like the shooting in that game is not fun, you know, like you're you're grinding on this rail. It's like, obviously they give you a generous auto aim because they know you're gonna be moving and they'll let you slow down a little bit. But at some point that just makes the shooting almost automatic. And shooting was like my least favorite part of the gameplay, but you know, it gets the job done. But that's like, you know, like fighting enemies is a big part of that game. It is you know, like you know, the traversal stuff is really cool, but the game they wrapped around it is pretty lame. I if that was a trick based like Traverse the World game, we would be having a totally different conversation because that would be badass. But instead they like put all this combat into it that I think, like, you know, like everyone talks about Insomnia's wacky weapons, I think this is like some of the weakest ones they've done. There are some bad weapons in that game, but there are also some really good ones. Yeah, you know, it's one of those things where it's go, like, you know, like they should let go of that or get back to making ratchet games, because I think that's where they that's where the cool weapons and the universe line up best. For me, it's not They're never gonna do that again because they don't want to make Sony a bunch of money. Well, I think part of what what's really exciting about some other Door Dup for me is that I liked there are parts of that are like so much that are so obvious, like when they revisit it will hopefully they revisit it, like I wish. I hope they may get a trick based game. I hope like they get a lot more in the reversal. I'm really excited to see what they do with that in the future. Like that's part of why I like that game so much. It is like, fu, yeah, they're gonna There's so much great stuff here and I feel like the stuff that doesn't work is so obviously what doesn't work. I think it it had. It had probably the best boss fights of the game that I played this year. They were the boss fights are fun, like that one one you got to jump on that dragons back at that was kind of sedious. I thought it was like, I feel like all of them. You haven't seen the third one yet, have you guess? Or the tower, there's the roller coaster in the road. It's just awesome. And then the skyscraper. Yeah, it's great. You fight a robot skyscraper at the end of that game. But all the boss fights use the game's mechanics in really creative ways. They know, they never just say, here's a giant enemy that's a bullet sponge. Is just grind in a circle around it and shoot it till it dies. Like it's always some interesting Here's a bullhead mask and you're growing on a roller coaster right to charge it head on right or from behind, you know, like like they make you like jump over this roller coaster and then grind the other way so you can ram it from behind. Just lots of crazy stuff like that, Like the encounters are really neat. I don't hate it by any means, I just, you know, something about it. Just I've got a few hang ups with it that I just can't not get past. But overall, I actually really liked the game that I wish I liked it more because I feel like there's there's just stuff to it, but it's just and and and the people that enjoy it seemed to really really really enjoy it. And I feel bad because it's like I feel like I should like this more. It's like most people that I talked to you, I absolutely love it. Why do you like this, Jason? Yeah, yeah, I do feel bad. Yeah, And that's why I say it like fun because I think because it's like this weird bat like the people to say, like, oh man, it's like jet Set like that. You know, it's totally not jet Set Radio is so fucking good, And I never I never played those games, so maybe like I don't have that comparison, so I don't get this bummed out about it. I do like that different it looks from which every other video game out there. Then they're like these systems in it that I feel like just fall flap and then all the points you put into the perk stuff like like okay, take you know these guys take one percent more damage. You show me like a perk that gets one percent more damage, and I'm like, fuck it, I'm gonna take. Why do I go to a menu for this? I know it builds up if you get more of them, but like there's also items to collect in that game, like the first time that I had one of the papers and part one of the balloons, like ye have five hundred more to go and I was full and signs added up, right, you don't have to get them all on me and whatever. You know, I beat the game and I'm actually still going through doing that, just like I like being in that world and for ursting in and say, well, if I have some bullshit reason like I'll go for this achievement, sneakers or whatever. And I think there's a decent amount of pretty good writing, especially in the second half of the game. Like it starts really poorly. I actually found that stuff kind of like it didn't It didn't scar me as much as it did some other people. Yeah, but later some of the later missions like where you forge that sword or like the focus the Focus Group mission with Phizziest like like Brainbox, Yeah, and some of that stuff, Like there's some pretty funny stuff in there, but then there is also a lot of stuff that's kind of like okay, yeah, trying a little too hard at the first and the credits and stuff. That's the thing is that it front loads a lot of that bullshit. Like a lot of the worst attitude in that game is in the early stuff. That stuff does fall off after a few hours. I mean, probably my biggest argument for this game in this category is like, there's enough here that's good and promising that as a debut like like you said, like it makes you excited to see what they could do with finish it. And I was like, yeah, give me that Sea fight. Well, let's let's here for now, because there's probably some stuff that we can we can cut here and get back to this. Should the stick of truth be on here? Since we're talking license games that are also not really tied to any other games. I mean, I guess that fits. I mean, if Alien and Middle Earth fit, then it's the same thing. I feel like it still fits the same thing. It does fit. I don't think I don't think it makes it. I'm fine, I'm finally not. I just wanted to put it in the conversation. Okay, oh man, so games of the Year. So I know no one else is going to want to have this argument with me, and that's fine. But for me, Shadow of Mordor is more of a best debut game concept than a best debut game. Okay, I can. I can kind of get behind that. That is a game that introduces a really amazing system that is also just kind of a pretty good game that you find I don't necessarily want to see another one of those games. I want to see that system in a different game exactly. I want both of those because the characters and the things that actually take place in that game I could not have story. Yeah, the story is terrible story and like it's somebody who knows way too much about that milieu, Like that's the story is terrible. Yeah, so I'm way into the Nemesis System is something as a debut, but I am not into Middle or a Shadow of mort or as a debut. I will disagree with you where you say that, like it's just pretty good minus the Nemesis system. Like I think the it's tight, but I think like the all the game played besides the Nemesis stuff, I think is way better than other games of that type. Like the tight is the right word for that game. I would say it's up there, but I wouldn't say it's way better. I think the game player, well, I think the gameplay is way better than like any Assassin's Creed, which just tried to do the same kick the shit out of Assassin. I mean in a lot of ways, yes, sure, every way, like the combat, the traversal, like just getting around the world and running like the leveling system. Yeah, you look at all that stuf like weird issues with some of the traversal in that game. Not the combat. The combat is great. It all felt right. Some of the traversal got got on my nerves, and you look at it. I feel like some of the combat got on my nerves because you know, when you get down to it in open combat, it's just bad man. But it never feels as tight as Batman. You're right, it's not as tight. But I'm not tired of that type of common good. I'm not either. Yeah, I think it has done well. I'm still cool with it. But this is definitely like it was mostly grabbing things from other games and doing a good job with them. Yeah, but it was really it's outside of the Nemesis system. It's an amalgamation of other things. It definitely stuff definitely exists. But yeah, I mean the Nemesis system, I think is is like a really fascinating but good for them. Yeah, like I mean that that's like if I had them, you know, if we're at a point where we're you know, acknowledging a lot of flaws and sunset overdrive, but are not quite ready to cut it. I feel like More Door stays for the same reason. Yeah. And that's my thing is that it's not that I necessarily wanted off the list. It's that I just felt like we should have that conversation before just automatically saying it's on there. Yeah. I mean it's kind of like going into like Call of Duty and saying like the multiplayer is the same shooting multiplayer but has perks, right, like you know, the edit a system, but it's still first person shooter. Yeah. Like, I think More Door that that game deserves to be on here for taking a chance on a new system, because god damn it, those games need it. And also, you know, you look at a game like a Sacret Union. You can make that game a million times and still fuck it up, apparently, and so just taking stuff from other games and putting together is not necessarily formula success. We did it, like, you know, you have to still do it well. Execution means everything in Mortar, I think executes in a lot of like key areas. That ending woe I was pissed in that credits rolled. Yeah, let's end with a quick time event. So Titan Fall, which one you guys like titan I do like titan Fall. Yeah, you guys had a good time with I had a good time with titan Fall. I would like to see a sequels like titan Fall is very much a first generation product. Uh, titan Fall is a game that needed more equipment, more stuff in it, you know. It kind of had one weapon of every type nother. DALC did not add weapons. They added maps period, you know, and it was one of those things where like you get to a point in the progression where you're just like, I don't really care about any of the stuff I'm unlocking anymore because there's not enough of it. You can you can bolt to the top of that progression, you know, in a day, but you don't even need to get there, honestly, depending what depends on how you play. So I feel like, you know, they needed more gear to make good on that kind of unlock progression that you get out of a Call of Duty. I think some of the balance changes they made over the course of the year detracted from my enjoyment in the game. So maybe that is a game that is a good debut, but it's not one of the best debuts. Yeah, I mean, I really want to see what they do next, what they want to do from here. I suspect that given more time to kind of focus on those sorts of things, once the baseline has been established, that a sequel to Titan Fall will probably be what you're looking for out of that sort of stuff. Sure, if you're still looking for that sort of stuff, you think they do a campaign. I don't think. I don't think they should, But yes, I don't know. I don't know if they can get away with it a second time. A man. I feel like if they if they go without a campaign for a second time around, they need to put in so much other content. I guess that's what I mean. That's there's a content hole in that game, you know, And and I think it's room for a brief single player campaign that is more tutorial in nature. It does have a tutorial that is it is effective, But you know that they they kind were they the way they tried to cram storytelling into the multiplayer I think is is an interesting idea that makes sense given the type of game they were making, in the team size and all that sort of stuff. But I wouldn't even mind, like a titan full spin off single player thing I just I just wanted to play around brother every every time we played titan Fall, like as a group of the event stuff. I really enjoyed it. But then it came out and it's like, oh, that's right, I don't really like playing these things. So that was the thing I want. I want to play this game a single player. You know, like a couple of days before Call of Duty came out, they had their like Horde mode four player co op mode release. You're like, this, this is like a pillar, you know, if you look a like like this style of multiplayer shooter. Call of Duty is a three pillar game. It's got its campaign, which, you know whatever, a lot of people skip it. I don't think it's necessary. They've got the competitive multiplayer, and you've got some kind of co op, and so they added that some kind of co op in a very limited fashion, very late after the game's release. So you look at that and go like, well, you know, given more time to flesh that out into something real instead of something that's just like, you know, kind of thrown in on the existing multiplayer maps, that could be a lot bigger than it is right now. There's stuff they could do to expand the competitive multiplayer in a way that I think, you know, they need to do if they're going to make another one of these games. And I think if they really went nuts on those two things, they can get away with without a campaign. All they really need, all those games really get out of their campaign at the end of the day, is like a cool trailer or two, sure, you know, and an excuse to have like some cool explosions and shit. So if then come up with a way to have that, then the marketing purpose of having a campaign is solved. I mean, to be fair, I am not the market for those games, but I am a campaign person for those Yeah, that's crazy. You shouldn't. You shouldn't buy that game for sixty dollars. No, you shouldn't buy Call of Duty for sixty dollars if you're going to play, Absolutely right, I am not. I am not the market for it. But I still like playing that. But because part of it is like those games play so well, right, Like they're they're made for multipayers, typical play exceptionally well, which makes them a lot of fun to play in these sort of like scripted campaigns. For me, it's like I want to enjoy that content but I'm never going to be that. I'm not going to be the hero. Online I'm not gonna be that good, right, But in the single player campaign I can be that good because the game is scripted to make you. Yeah, I'm the best player in the single player campaign, and online I am the worst player and that's not a feel good experience. Room. Yeah, yeah, for sure. But I still want to be able to like throw grenades with you know, fucking rockets on them and jump around. But so like I want mine, Yeah, I just I don't think titan Fall stays on this list. There are a lot of really good things about it, but I don't think it makes the cut. All right. But but that said, like if it's if, we're if it, we're doing a category it's like the one I want to see a sequel for the most like that's up there because the foundation is really solid. They just need to finish the game. I don't take Velvet Signed down off of the year. Yeah. I put that on more as a joke. Yeah, you know, let's say as a game that that took us all by surprise and a thing that we would love to see more from in the future. It's worth acknowledging at least I think in the best surprise category it had it. Yet, can we take a Monument Valley off? I don't see that beating won't. I really really like that game a lot, But that's that's fair something about jazz punk on here, Like even though I love jazz punk, something about this category is not the same jazz punk to me. Yeah, I I love the concept of jazz punk, and I think the execution is a little sketchy and spots like they are just levels to that game where I just don't like that much, but like it was so much it's really daring totally. That's part of what's amazing about It's comedy, right, Like, yeah, games already do comedy pretty bad, especially if you're going for non It's like I feel like it's alright, it's games that games at this scope are starting to do comedy a lot better. Like we're getting to a point where that that crutch doesn't exist anymore. And you look at stuff like The Stanley Parable and you know these kind of like smaller games that you know that do comedy, like they do them really well, Like it's not surprising that jazz punk is funny anything, but jazz punk is funny in a way that very few games have. You. Yeah, and that's you know, like but in some ways, like it's less reliant on timing than something like Stanley Parable and a lot other and I think that's yeah, like they there, it's a it's full of crazy visual gags and a lot of weird referential stuff and I like that style. Uh, and it's fucking nuts. Yeah, but I think it's a little hit and miss and spots. I I I to me, it's it's just one of the most spectacularly weird things I have got the opportunity to play in a long time. And I think, you know, I put it in this category because I love that they went for it, and you know, as something that is basically wholly original in a way that very few games tend to be. So I think it was it was worth at least having conversation about it, definitely. But yeah, like that said, like, you know, if we're talking about Sunset and Middle Earth staying on this list, I don't know what our third is. I think it's Shovel Night. Yeah. Yeah, really, yes, you talk about game, it's not really to fall. Let's felt that I wasna. You talk about a game that you know is trying to be like simultaneously pull together, you know, the nostalgic aspects of what you liked about old games while also making a incredibly solid, really fun version of those games. Shovel Night is one of the best examples of that you'll ever fall. Yeah. I mean Shovel Knight takes from those original games. Uh, and it knows when to not. Yeah, it knows when to break from that and the panders and at the same time, like, I appreciate that, but that didn't stop me from getting pretty bored with it about halfway through. Once I started, I could not stop. Like, as someone you know who has no problems saying Mega Man two is my favorite game of all time, Huh that that game like just hits on all of those cylinders. Yeah, I mean that's the game that they're trying to Like, that's basically that is that games will happen. I think even if you stripped out all of the nyas nostalgia elements of that and you had the exact same gameplay just with the more modern art style, I think it just plays so well that it deserves a Yeah, it's so good. I feel like with Shovel Night, like I got to a point where I was like, yeah, I get it, Okay, you're making that game great. No, that's awesome, and never did not feel a pull to keep playing it. I beat it and immediately want to start playing it again. Yeah. Yeah, it's for what it's trying to do. It doesn't exceptionally well and not in a way that's like, oh we just made another one of those like it. It's its own thing, right, that builds on what came before it Isn't that also Yacht Club's first game? Yeah it is. Yeah, so that's like a debut on top of a debut. So there's something to that. I'm just saying. You know, it's like it's it's an exceptionally good game and all, and you know, I think I think it it said it does every single thing it's set out sets out to do. I understand why you guys like it, but I'm much like Jeff, I had cut kind of board actually playing the action as some good music. Yeah, are there three? Or I mean I'm taking off. That's that's a really cool game. But need to be on here, take Alien off? I like Alien? What else say for Alien for a big budget Triple A game, to say no to combat is so incredibly daring and bold and not they just kind of say like, it's not no, it's more like nah, it's more like you shouldn't, can't. You can't kill the creature, you can't shoot your way and some of the ways it tries to fudge its way around the no combat, Like, doesn't that stuff kind of drag a little bit. I'm not saying it's it's perfect. It's it's a deeply flawed game that I think, but it's ambition is just ridiculous for types of games that we usually like the fact that you would build an alien game where you cannot shoot the aliens. It's like, I mean, there's someone finally convinced whoever is writing checks for alien games, to say, like, let us actually make an alien game like the right of alien game, you know, and instead of just like, I don't know, you just gun them down, let's put thousand aliens in its aliens game. Yeah, made the alien game. I mean, yeah, I haven't seen the movies. Damn creative assembly, Yeah, creatively the role making a shooter more different styles of the game. Yeah, the restraint is admirable in the design, you know, not not letting you kill the alien. I also think it's pretty respectable that they'd put a female in the or a woman in the in the lead role there. Well, game is the game is kind of I mean, that's the franchise. Well, you're right, I mean it kind of gets a pass because you're right, like, like, you know, that probably would have drawn more ire if they didn't have the original movie to fall back on or all the movies, I guess. But for a game with a budget as big as that one had to do as many risky things as it is, I think is worth noting. I still feel like, and maybe there's one in there. I feel like there should have been some easter egg in there that actually let's you kill the alien and it's just like you break it like five minutes in or something. Then it's just like phone, figure, well you shut the gun at it. Oh shit, you found the gun, or trying to find a pulse rifle in a locker. Yeah, it's got a nut allergy. Yeah. Well, it's this sort of spoils part of the game. But you know, the part of the trick of it is that there are actually tons of aliens in the ship. There's not just one. Yeah, they just spawned up and down when they need to write I mean no, but I mean like literally narratively. Yeah, there's a whole hiven Like, oh well that's I didn't know that. They just presented in a very one at a time kind of way. Yeah, okay, I think Valiant Hearts was a very effective game. What did I think? Like Jeff said about Titan Fall, I would love to see another game like that, just not a sequel to that game. World War War two. Yeah, yeah, there you go. Uh but yeah, it's not a double values any the Fall, man, that's a really cool what a great first impression. Yeah, like even like from the beginning of that game, when you just get out of that wake up from that suit, it's pretty good. And there is another one coming. Yeah. The way you describe it, it almost sounds like this year is The Swapper. Yeah, it sounded very much like I love The Swapper, one of my favorite games. Oh my god, people so good. It's it's not as not as puzzling, like hardcore puzzle as that, but yeah, man, that game, that god doesn't make an incredible first impression. I know it really is is a great debut. So I think we take a lot of browsers off. Somebody else can delete it if they want, and then, yeah, I love trowsers. It's really good but aucking awesome game. Just a great kind of throwback to these kind of short session type stuff and yeah, just cool as shit. It's a good short timing. It's it's a solid short timing. Yeah, you know, it's maybe not the best short time I think. I think it's an overall game, shovel Night makes more of an impression on me than The Fall does. I think The Fall has some really amazing components to it, but it is in the it's a fairly simple game that is good, but it's more the story and the atmosphere of that thing that really grabbed me. Yeah, I think Chevelight is a little bit more complete in that regard. I don't know if I agree with you, but my ears are hearing what you're saying. Sure, this is why I love working with you. Like this is like our negotiations are only so pleasant, you know, It's like it's just it's there's never this like animosity and there is definitely audio coming out of your mouth. Yea statement. Uh Like, I just I really just think the the universe and the uh like, turn on the fall and try and stop playing. Is it is? It really is a testament to it's Debutus should we cut threes? It's gonna make it? Three is pretty rad? Also three? Yeah, it's like, yeah, someone made a cool puzzle game for phones and then they actually like skind it in a way that it's pleasant and cool, Like that's awesome. I love it. But I feel like there'll be a new Threes next year, you know, like like or you know, we will have we will feel the same way we feel about Threes about some other mobile game next Sure, I don't know. Also, Road it doesn't top Shovel Night, Sunset and Middle Earth. I don't think as much as I love Threes. All right, Uh so Sunset is staying on here? I fight for you. Yeah, Yeah, I really like Sunset Overdrive. I think I like Sunset better than the Middle of Earth. Honestly, I feel good about the case you're making about that game like being flawed, but in terms of it being a debut and and and they're being like a being a good foundation for something else. Yeah, that's what makes me feel okay about it? All right, so who are who's in Shovel Night camp later? But I'd say we drop a fall if that's what you're asking. Yeah, of course you say that, But I haven't played it. I feel like it sounds cool. I look how sad he is looking like I've got your back on the I just I played in love to the other three and I haven't played it. Shovel Night ain't all that like. I would rather well made thing, But go try the Fall for the first time than go finish Shovel Night. Wow. I don't know how to process that context. But all right, I'm bleeding. If that helps. That's that is a bold statement. Let's just go play Mega Man two instead. It's better. Check out this picture of the Fall. Yeah, that looks like the Swapper. Yeah you got this gun. He's got a gun and he's shine in his light and there's robot with this glowy face. Make me think of this Swapper and I like not a lot. Look at this screen shot, like that's lights shining on the dude. Game looks amazing, looks pretty solid. Yeah, like this one is just fall. I really like those other three games that I played, though it wait, do you fall on the Fall? Yes, the Fall has to be on this list right there, there's a Sunset, Sunset over Drive, so shadow of board Or is the one that has to go? Then obviously, uh, you know we can let we can let the Fall go until more more people have played it. The Fall is awesome, The Fall is super awesome. It's it's really really good. And maybe you know, the Fall will have it will not be able to win Best Debut, but maybe it'll be able to win something next year like twenty fifteens by cutting the video was right award. Yeah, there are more episodes to come too, So yeah, I really like those Top three is as our three? Yeah? And are we giving it to the Nemesis System? I would love to give that to more door. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know. As much as I don't particularly love Sunset Overdrive, I think it had a better overall debut. Well, you know what the things in Sunset deuce. If we're talking debuts in like new stuff, Sunset has more of that because Middle Earth, like we've said a million times, it's like, Okay, this is Batman combat match with assassins, Creed, this and that. So I mean Sunset Overdrive felt newer. So if that's what debut is as a category, then I could see the argument for that worse. What's that it also felt worse? I do think my art is a better game. Ye feels newer. It's weird. I had more fun playing Shadow of Mortor. But I could want sun Set Overdrive to win this category because the things, the things I don't like about Mortar are so off putting that I kind of resented a little bit. I think, guys, yes, yes, what about shovel Knight. It's no man's shovel night. It's lucky to be on this He's winner from this category. He's right. I just know that's not a fight worth fighting, all right. I think I think Mortar really Sunset. It's just I don't know. I think it's doing a lot of things, and I don't think for me, I don't think it did anything. Really that Mortar overcomes the Lord of the Rings, license overcomes a lot of stuff overcomes. I don't think it overcomes anything. I think that Lord of the Rings is an important seminal piece of warner. I'm not I do wrong by it, Okay, Like profoundly what I'm saying is that it's easy to look at like oh, it's Lord of the Rings game and go like, okay, you know what I mean. It transcends the license to be interesting in its own right. But I also think it overcomes It overcomes assassin's fatigue, and it overcomes Batman combat fatigue, which we have seen. It takes a bunch of things that you would kind of be like, Okay, you're gonna do that again, but the way it puts it all together is incredibly impendive. Like I'm with Brad, I think I think it in the spirit of Lord of the Rings, it fails miserably, like in the kind of like thematic big points of Lord of the Rings. It is over here on the other side, meaning like, ah, fuck it, I'm just a superpower. Like it's it's it's basically antithetical to me everything about the Lord of It's pretty weird that, yeah, but but it's it's a really fun video game. Yeah, it makes you feel like a bad it's fucking stupid, but it's really fun and there's there's really amazing things that Mortar does in terms of its open world, because like just being able to track down like the foliage and things or like the like the things you have to collect for like the collector, Like it just highlights that on the screen says, oh, by the way, like that plant like is near by, because I don't end up doing that stuff in games, because I'm not going to chase down a red fucking plant. But the game just says, hey, you need that red plant, it's right by you, but maybe pick it up, and and that that stuff ends up making me explore. I did all of the side stuff in that game. I never do that. Yeah, I do the story quest and do a couple of the side things and move on with my life. And now I did everything and every That's the first game I platinum in years, Like you know, because I'm kind of passed the trophy and achievement thing that I loved playing that so much. I wanted any excuse to keep it. It was fun to do also, and they made it easy to engage with that stuff, like they act like whereas like Assassin's Creed like it's it's overwhelming and it's it's it's annoying, like Mortor. It made it fun to find all that stuff. And you're talking about like the introduction of something that Nemesis system is something they need to put another game like that. That level of open worldness with replayability is you can just sit there and find all those dudes and we know, get a borning after a while. But like when those bosses come out and the other guys are chanting the guy's name, like that just feels really cool. You're right, And I think the fact that you would we would look at Mortar and say something that a system that it has we want to see in a bunch of other games is like really impressive. Yeah, like it does something so good that we want it to be stolen and putting like every other open world game. I mean not every but you know what I mean. Yes, Or like that concept of like hey, somehow they're tricking me into thinking this world is consequence. It makes it makes me want to do Mercenaries game because it's just the Deck of fifty two done right, and it's like a weird it's a weird, weird way, not a weird it's an interesting way to handle death right, Like they're saying like, Okay, everything is here until you die, and then we're going to shuffle the world up a bit, like because you die, here's your penalty for dying. We don't just pretend that death doesn't happen. You just pick up where you left off. Yeah. Like, I think that's a very interesting way to handle a consequence for sucking up in that game. That's my pick. Yeah, Well like Mortar, yep, yeah, yeah, I could be okay with that. Yeah, totally. I think I've been still with any of these three. I'll let it go. I hate a few things about that game, even though I gave it five stars. It's really fun. I guess you play The Fall. I want to. You absolutely should. Yeah, I would like to play that. I would love for you guys played like this game sucks? Yeah, actually that game is really terrible. It's overpriced, and you made up all those plot points and they're actually exist in the game. Yeah. I actually just keep falling constantly. Okay. It sounds like we have reached a consensus on all four of our categories for Day three, starting with best new character ship bought from the dream Fall chapters. Are one hundred percent sure the ship bots new and not in a previous dream Fall game. I have played the previous dream Fall games. Shipot is I can't be one right this very second. Well, let me ask you this, Are you one hundred percent sure the Iron Bowl has never been referenced in any of the Dragon Age game No, I guess not. All right, okay, all right? Yeah? Great? Uh Boil with all the sundown and the Iron Bowl taking the category. Debate about Boil being new boilers, Oh boil, they are Goal from Dragon Anchi, Inquisition, Best Early Access, Experienced, Gang Beast, Script of the Necker an Answer, and Winter Nuclear Throne. Best Console Exclusives, Console with best exclusives? Does that make more sense? Whatever we end up calling this category? We you takes it with Railing behind, and I'm not sure if PlayStation four actually made it on the list. I don't know. I don't know that we actually cut it, and I think, oh, you're right, I guess we have all three. We do have all three, but step it up, first party and best Debut as you just heard shovel Nights on Sunset over Drive with your Winter Metal Earth Shadow of Mordor. So yeah, that's uh, I guess that's gonna do it for day three of categories. How many more days aren't There's two more days? We're over the hump. That's that's why they call it hump day, you know, because it's right in the middle. Oh okay, all right, yeah we should have a talk. That's that's what everybody gross. Everybody's uh, thanks for listening. We'll be back tomorrow with a whole bunch more Game of the Year. See then up a little ado I don't I lit a little little bootle. Have you live
