<v Speaker 1>Oh, run a little bit hot tonight We're back.
<v Speaker 2>I don't feel tardy.
<v Speaker 1>How exciting. I love that we're going to talk about
<v Speaker 1>the van Halen van Hagar dispute today. And I love
<v Speaker 1>that you really like van Hagar because I really like
<v Speaker 1>van Halen.
<v Speaker 2>This is a very interesting argument to get into because
<v Speaker 2>this is a definite line in the sand. There's different
<v Speaker 2>people on both sides of this argument, but it's one
<v Speaker 2>of the biggest arguments of the nineteen eightes we're going.
<v Speaker 1>To talk about. It's nineteen sixty two.
<v Speaker 3>They get on a large boat and then after a
<v Speaker 3>few nights, they had them get up in between sets,
<v Speaker 3>and then the next night they were sitting at the
<v Speaker 3>captain's table. Because the star little boys won everyone's hearts,
<v Speaker 3>and so they became the star of the show. At
<v Speaker 3>that point, the seed was planted and they were ready
<v Speaker 3>to be stage musicians for the rest of their lives.
<v Speaker 2>It doesn't take very long to figure out there are
<v Speaker 2>benefits to being the performance, and.
<v Speaker 3>So they would pay somebody ten bucks per show to
<v Speaker 3>go rent the system. And one of the guys they
<v Speaker 3>were renting from was this kid named Davie Ross kid
<v Speaker 3>named David Lee Roth. And so after a while, Alex
<v Speaker 3>just said, you know, we need a lead singer, and
<v Speaker 3>we need his pa system. Might as well get two
<v Speaker 3>birds with one stone here and just have him join
<v Speaker 3>the band and be our lead singer.
<v Speaker 2>In a matter of ten dollars, they land one of
<v Speaker 2>the greatest frontmen of any rock band of all time.
<v Speaker 3>And then David Lee Roth was like, you know what,
<v Speaker 3>Van Halen sounds cool and it's your name. Let's make
<v Speaker 3>the band name.
<v Speaker 2>That was Daily Ross's idea.
<v Speaker 3>Absolutely yeah. Once they had gained that big following, they
<v Speaker 3>finally landed a gig as kind of the house band
<v Speaker 3>for a place called Gazari's. That's right, that's in hod
<v Speaker 3>And oddly, from time to time Bill Gazari would come
<v Speaker 3>up to David and say, hey, Van, you guys did
<v Speaker 3>last night? Let a couple extra bucks. I guess he
<v Speaker 3>thought he was like Van Morrison or something. So he
<v Speaker 3>had a special guitar. Yeah, absolutely, I had a special guitar.
<v Speaker 3>So here's something. Here's something that many people don't know
<v Speaker 3>about Eddie, which is just absolutely amazing. The man was
<v Speaker 3>an inventor. He wasn't he didn't just redefine the way
<v Speaker 3>that you played the guitar, He created his own guitar.
<v Speaker 3>Geene Simmons said, I don't think you guys should call
<v Speaker 3>yourselves in Halen.
<v Speaker 2>I think you guys ought to change your name to
<v Speaker 2>Daddy Longlegs.
<v Speaker 3>Which who knows, maybe that would have worked.
<v Speaker 2>I don't think so.
<v Speaker 3>No, it's not the same bad and they do the
<v Speaker 3>right thing.
<v Speaker 2>When Geene Simmons tells you to do something after he
<v Speaker 2>had branded kiss, there's gonna be a big temptation to change.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, how do you not How do I mean, if
<v Speaker 3>you're if you're with that iconic figure, how do you
<v Speaker 3>not go? Yeah, that sounds great.
<v Speaker 1>Whatever you say, Gene, you're the man.
<v Speaker 2>You're worth a bazillion dollars. Mister Simmons, I'll do whatever
<v Speaker 2>you say, right, but they say no.
