<v Speaker 1>Hey there, Kyle Hilliard here from Game Former. We had
<v Speaker 1>an error at the beginning of this episode where the
<v Speaker 1>video was not recording properly, So the opening is gonna
<v Speaker 1>have no video, and then like thirty minutes or so
<v Speaker 1>in you'll have video. Apologies for the issue, but I
<v Speaker 1>hope that doesn't interrupt your listening to the Game Informer
<v Speaker 1>Show podcast.

<v Speaker 2>Alex van Aiken out this week. But I, as you
<v Speaker 2>can see if you're watching the video version, I have
<v Speaker 2>the hat. As I said in the previous version, the
<v Speaker 2>hat means that you are the host forgot about this rule.
<v Speaker 2>It's the heavy as the head that where's the hat?
<v Speaker 2>As the podcast gods used to say, that voice you
<v Speaker 2>just heard is Kyle Hilliard. Hi, Hey, it's me. I
<v Speaker 2>did it. You did it? You showed up? I guess
<v Speaker 2>I showed up. I did it, Gache to me. Thank
<v Speaker 2>you for coming on time too. Also we have Wesley LeBlanc.
<v Speaker 3>Hello, Hello, how's it going.
<v Speaker 2>Going pretty well? Before we jump right into it, of course,
<v Speaker 2>if you want to support Game Informer, the best way
<v Speaker 2>you can do that is with a Game Informer magazine subscription.
<v Speaker 2>A physical magazine can be sent to your house, ten
<v Speaker 2>of them in fact, for one year for nineteen ninety one.
<v Speaker 2>All you gotta do is subscribe. Go to Game Informer
<v Speaker 2>slash subscribe or subscription. I believe both work still, but
<v Speaker 2>either way it's the best way to support us directly.
<v Speaker 2>You can also double up on that subscription by signing
<v Speaker 2>up for twenty issues over two years for thirty four
<v Speaker 2>ninety nine. It's a great way to keep us around
<v Speaker 2>shore our parent company, that we have value and that
<v Speaker 2>we're worth keeping alive, not even just as a business,
<v Speaker 2>but as people. Oh geez, that's.
<v Speaker 3>Side know that one I signed up to work here.
<v Speaker 3>That's news to me.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, our our very lives are at stake here, folks.
<v Speaker 2>So if you would like to keep us on this earth,
<v Speaker 2>sign up for a physical magazine. It's a great it's
<v Speaker 2>a great thing. We put a lot of work into it,
<v Speaker 2>and we promise you will like it. I was gonna
<v Speaker 2>do the men's warehouse thing where he's like, what is it.
<v Speaker 2>You're gonna like the way you look? I guarantee is
<v Speaker 2>that what he says? Yeah, so you're gonna like the
<v Speaker 2>way you look. I guarantee it. You're gonna like the
<v Speaker 2>way you read. I guarantee it for the magazine, like
<v Speaker 2>what you read. I guess there you go.
<v Speaker 4>Uh.
<v Speaker 2>We're gonna be talking about a few big games today.
<v Speaker 2>First and foremost, one of the big releases this week
<v Speaker 2>is a Kannutsugami Path of the Goddess. I believe I
<v Speaker 2>pronounced that correctly. This is Capcom's new action strategy hybrid game.
<v Speaker 2>It was announced I want to say a year year
<v Speaker 2>and a half ago. I remember seeing it was actually
<v Speaker 2>I think it was last year at the Capcom showcase
<v Speaker 2>that I think was the one we all said was
<v Speaker 2>a waste of time because it wasn't good. But I
<v Speaker 2>remember seeing this game and going, oh, that looks interesting,
<v Speaker 2>but like not knowing what it was. And I think
<v Speaker 2>that's the interesting story around his game is sort of
<v Speaker 2>like what it actually is, because I think if you
<v Speaker 2>watched maybe those first few trailers, they only show like
<v Speaker 2>cinematic combat, and in my mind, I was like, Oh,
<v Speaker 2>it's like a stylish action thing, like maybe like a
<v Speaker 2>new sort of like Double May Cry style game, which
<v Speaker 2>makes sense Capcom is into that kind of stuff. But
<v Speaker 2>in the most recent trailers we've seen more of just like, Oh,
<v Speaker 2>this is like a weird strategy thing that I don't
<v Speaker 2>know if I've seen anything quite like this in terms
<v Speaker 2>of the blend of styles. But Wesley, you have been
<v Speaker 2>playing it for review. At the time of recording, you
<v Speaker 2>have not finished a game. Kyle and I have also
<v Speaker 2>started playing it, but I would love to know what
<v Speaker 2>you think of the game so far and explains to
<v Speaker 2>good folks at home just what the hell this game
<v Speaker 2>actually is.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, so, yeah, I'm like five or six hours into it.
<v Speaker 3>I think it's it seems like it's like a twenty
<v Speaker 3>to twenty five hour game from what I've heard, but
<v Speaker 3>I had some travel for work last week so only
<v Speaker 3>started to really dip my toes into it. But if
<v Speaker 3>those five to six hours have played so far, in indication,
<v Speaker 3>I am going to give this game a really great
<v Speaker 3>score because I am loving it a lot similar to
<v Speaker 3>what you kind of just described. I had no idea
<v Speaker 3>really what this game was going into it. When Brian
<v Speaker 3>assigned me the game review, I had to look up.
<v Speaker 3>I was like, wait, which one is this again? And
<v Speaker 3>I was.
<v Speaker 2>Like, did you mean? Yeah? Yeah?
<v Speaker 3>I even I actually sent him a recommendation for a game.
<v Speaker 3>I was like, I have another game on my list
<v Speaker 3>I'd like to review that comes out the following week,
<v Speaker 3>which is next week, not as like a maybe let
<v Speaker 3>me do that instead, but just a that's how out
<v Speaker 3>of touch I was with.
<v Speaker 2>This weird way to.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, but I'm really stoked at reviewing it because it's
<v Speaker 3>a game I probably wouldn't have played on my own polition,
<v Speaker 3>necessarily at least until reading about it and stuff. But
<v Speaker 3>it is. I think the reason they have struggled to
<v Speaker 3>market it is because doing so would be like describing
<v Speaker 3>what the game is is calling it a tower defense game,
<v Speaker 3>which is not a flashy or sexy term I think
<v Speaker 3>in games, especially because.
<v Speaker 2>Of fully right it's.
<v Speaker 1>I do not end at all for explaining this game
<v Speaker 1>is because I couldn't do it either.
<v Speaker 3>Really, so, a malevolent presence like takes over a mountain.
<v Speaker 3>It's basically like a long, a large mountain kind of
<v Speaker 3>like Fushimi Nari and Kyoto, a bunch of tory gates
<v Speaker 3>going up a mountain in villages and little breast stops
<v Speaker 3>along the way, and you are, I forget the main
<v Speaker 3>characters named Saul or Yo and you yeah, and you
<v Speaker 3>are helping this woman who can like cleanse the mountain
<v Speaker 3>reach different gates that have been like possessed by these
<v Speaker 3>malevolent demon demon forces or whatever, and you're kind of
<v Speaker 3>like the bodyguard of her or like her commander. Like
<v Speaker 3>her main goal is to cleanse the areas, cleanse the villages,
<v Speaker 3>cleanse the villagers, cleanse the gates, and you have to
<v Speaker 3>like make sure she survives while doing that. And so
<v Speaker 3>what you have is this like daytime nighttime cycle that
<v Speaker 3>dictates everything going on in the game. So during the day,
<v Speaker 3>you go to these stages and you try to you
<v Speaker 3>kind of just walk around and find things that are
<v Speaker 3>unclean and you clean them by holding B and then,
<v Speaker 3>which it sounds boring, but it's actually I actually quite
<v Speaker 3>like it. It's kind of nice puzzle times it is, yeah.
<v Speaker 2>And it's also really satisfying because this game looks really nice,
<v Speaker 2>so like it's got a it's almost got an o
<v Speaker 2>kamiyas sort of like satisfaction, like, Oh, this thing that
<v Speaker 2>was like all gross and demonic is now all pretty
<v Speaker 2>in flowers because I cleansed it.
<v Speaker 1>Which I think I think actually, I think Okami is
<v Speaker 1>doing some kind of overlap with it.
<v Speaker 2>They did for the demo, which is now in the
<v Speaker 2>main game because enough people played the demo.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, yeah, the art style this it might be I
<v Speaker 1>don't know if you guys know this game. There was
<v Speaker 1>this Xbox game called Otagi Myth of Demons. Yeah, it's
<v Speaker 1>like it's like a it's a from software game. It's
<v Speaker 1>like a pre demon this game and it and they
<v Speaker 1>kind of shared that similar sort of Japanese ghost yokai
<v Speaker 1>horror style that it's really bizarre and fun to look at.
<v Speaker 1>I really like the way this game looks.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. They also both have a fixation on fingers. Yes,
<v Speaker 2>that's the.
<v Speaker 3>Trend of this generation of games is just fingers. Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>But yeah, you guys are you guys are right. The
<v Speaker 3>art style is gorgeous. It's like a I don't know
<v Speaker 3>what the word is. It's not present day Japan. It's
<v Speaker 3>like kind of like what Kyle alluded to, like the
<v Speaker 3>folklore and there's no real time period associated with it,
<v Speaker 3>but it's definitely like not modern. But yeah. So during
<v Speaker 3>the day, you're like freeing villagers who have been captured
<v Speaker 3>by this presence. You are collecting these orbs to upgrade them,
<v Speaker 3>and basically what you're doing is freeing up this village
<v Speaker 3>and freeing up freeing up this path for the girl
<v Speaker 3>you're protecting the cleansing girl to make her way to
<v Speaker 3>a gate. Sometimes you can do that in one day.
<v Speaker 3>Sometimes the day shifts to night time, and when it
<v Speaker 3>shifts to night time, that's when this game becomes this
<v Speaker 3>action more action oriented game. So these demonic presence, like
<v Speaker 3>these forces seethe out of the gates and you have
<v Speaker 3>to attack them and basically stop them from reaching the
<v Speaker 3>woman you're protecting. She's like, you're you can also die,
<v Speaker 3>but she's like your main objective don't let her lose
<v Speaker 3>her health, and you have to survive through the night
<v Speaker 3>basically through these waves. And the villagers that you free
<v Speaker 3>during the day are the villagers who fight alongside you
<v Speaker 3>at night, and they're kind of like the tower defense
<v Speaker 3>portion of this otherwise very real time action segment of
<v Speaker 3>the game. So you can assign a villager to be
<v Speaker 3>a woodcutter, so they use an axe for like close
<v Speaker 3>handed melee combat. There's archers, there's ascetics who use magic
<v Speaker 3>to slow down enemies. There are thieves. Like there's a
<v Speaker 3>bunch of classes and you assign them. You signed villagers
<v Speaker 3>to each class, and then you kind of you can
<v Speaker 3>select where they need to stand and where they move
<v Speaker 3>around and how they interact on the battlefield to protect
<v Speaker 3>her to attack with you. You're kind of managing this
<v Speaker 3>squadron of villagers and it does and get two intents,
<v Speaker 3>It's never, at least so far in my five to
<v Speaker 3>six hours, the most I've had to control is like eight.
<v Speaker 3>I don't think we're going to get up to like
<v Speaker 3>dozens of villagers at once, because that would be a
<v Speaker 3>little out of hand. Yeah, so you kind of feature
<v Speaker 3>those Yes, Yeah, you have to like these orbs to
<v Speaker 3>level them up and upgrade them additional health, additional attack power,
<v Speaker 3>like all kinds of upgrades.
<v Speaker 1>I wonder, Marcus, if we're about to ask the same
<v Speaker 1>question of Wes, who's further than us, Like can do
<v Speaker 1>you know if you can upgrade like yourself or it's
<v Speaker 1>like you can only upgrade the villagers that you assigned.
<v Speaker 3>So far, I've only been able to upgrade the villagers.
<v Speaker 3>There are like talisman type collectibles that you can get
<v Speaker 3>that for example, I've got one equipped that increases my health,
<v Speaker 3>and so far I've only got one I can equip,
<v Speaker 3>but it looks like I can equip a total of
<v Speaker 3>three at some point later in the game, and there
<v Speaker 3>are some very interesting ones. I was running this one
<v Speaker 3>that lowered my attack power but boosted all of my
<v Speaker 3>villagers attack and I've found that that was a really
<v Speaker 3>interesting little dynamic. But yeah, I think that's the only
<v Speaker 3>way so far to change your character's ability on the
<v Speaker 3>in battle. But yeah, again I'm so early. It's like
<v Speaker 3>who knows, but I don't. It's the story is not
<v Speaker 3>really much. You're just cleansing this mountain.
<v Speaker 2>But I dialog if I'm not mistaken there, I think
<v Speaker 2>I heard the Maiden. Yeah, like I think she said
<v Speaker 2>one thing and I did a double take because I
<v Speaker 2>had looked away and then I heard her say like something.
<v Speaker 2>I was like, did she just talk? Because she had
<v Speaker 2>been silent the whole time.
<v Speaker 1>But I feel like every cutscene is like pantomimed conversation,
<v Speaker 1>Like right, yeah, I.
<v Speaker 3>Believe, I believe so yeah, for the most part. But yeah,
<v Speaker 3>I'm really enjoying this loop of during the day, I'm
<v Speaker 3>trying to uh free as many villagers, get this place
<v Speaker 3>ready for the fight that comes to night, and then
<v Speaker 3>protect her during the night and rinsing, repeat, And so
<v Speaker 3>you do that, you make your way through these stages
<v Speaker 3>that are on the mountain almost in like an Overworld
<v Speaker 3>type map way, and then sometimes there's like a boss
<v Speaker 3>fight that's a separate stage, so you load into that
<v Speaker 3>boss fight stage and it's like its own unique boss
<v Speaker 3>and I've already found that they are doing some really
<v Speaker 3>cool unique things. Sorry, there's a fly like flying around here,
<v Speaker 3>so I'm gonna get it.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>At first, the bosses were very much like I'm just
<v Speaker 3>gonna hit this thing as many times as i can.
<v Speaker 3>But I've already encountered just a few bosses in my
<v Speaker 3>early hours where I'm having to I'm failing drastically and
<v Speaker 3>then having to rethink how I'm positioning my villagers instead
<v Speaker 3>of I was trying to balance my team out. So
<v Speaker 3>if I had five villagers, I was like, I'll do
<v Speaker 3>two woodcutters, two archers, and like one of the ascetic mages,
<v Speaker 3>and I actually just beat a boss fight where I
<v Speaker 3>had all of them were asthetic mages to slow the
<v Speaker 3>boss down, and I was the only one that could
<v Speaker 3>damage and I found that that was super effective to
<v Speaker 3>take down an enemy. So I like that I'm being
<v Speaker 3>pushed to explore different team makeups because otherwise I am
<v Speaker 3>the type of person who just dick with like a
<v Speaker 3>balanced makeup and then so that's all fun and stuff.
<v Speaker 3>And then outside of that, the only thing there else
<v Speaker 3>is to do is each stage you finish becomes a base,
<v Speaker 3>and that's where you take the villagers that you have
<v Speaker 3>and you start rebuilding the base, which is just finding
<v Speaker 3>something that needs to be repaired which is on your map,
<v Speaker 3>and then you assigned a certain number of villagers to it,
<v Speaker 3>and it'll say like this building won't be repaired for
<v Speaker 3>one stage worth of time, So that means you need
<v Speaker 3>to go complete a stage and when you come back
<v Speaker 3>it will be repaired. And I haven't really determined a
<v Speaker 3>strategy around that, but I'm just kind of going from
<v Speaker 3>base to base, and when I max out of base,
<v Speaker 3>I move on to the next one.
<v Speaker 2>Did you guys make the mistake I did where I
<v Speaker 2>misunderstood what they meant by stages, and I thought they
<v Speaker 2>just meant passage of time. So like when I first
<v Speaker 2>opened that, I had tea going and I like, because
<v Speaker 2>you can speed up the clock. So I did that
<v Speaker 2>for like five consecutive days, and I'm like, yep, nothing
<v Speaker 2>seems to be changing. What is happening? Yeah, totally.
<v Speaker 3>I did the same exact thing.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, okay, it.
<v Speaker 3>Was like a three stage one and I was go,
<v Speaker 3>it takes a while to go through a full day,
<v Speaker 3>and I'm like, uh yeah, clunky, this is not.
<v Speaker 2>It was like, there's no way to expect me, Tony,
<v Speaker 2>this is fun. I must be games like, yeah, we didn't.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, And it tracks your days in that specific moment,
<v Speaker 3>but there's no like larger mechanic tracking your day. So
<v Speaker 3>I was like, why can I do this? How can
<v Speaker 3>I just speed up time to pass three days? And
<v Speaker 3>there's no punishment. It's because it literally does nothing. There's
<v Speaker 3>no point to do it. Hope, go complete some stages.
<v Speaker 1>Not turn this into like a you know, strategy guide West,
<v Speaker 1>but like, have you found any reason to return to
<v Speaker 1>a village once you do all the repairs?
<v Speaker 3>No? After I have one, I have not. I'm pretty
<v Speaker 3>sure you don't either, because on the overworld, the village
<v Speaker 3>become it's like glowing like a white light, so it
<v Speaker 3>looks very much like you're done here.
<v Speaker 1>That's a good thing, to be clear. I like the
<v Speaker 1>checklisty nature of it. It's like, all right, that one's done,
<v Speaker 1>let me focus on this one and let me do
<v Speaker 1>this there.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>Same. You can replay stages and there are objectives within each,
<v Speaker 3>which was I don't really care because I'm not going
<v Speaker 3>to one hundred percent each of these stages. But it
<v Speaker 3>was kind of annoying because the first stage I did,
<v Speaker 3>I didn't complete any objectives and it was like one
<v Speaker 3>of them was assigned villagers to three different subclasses and
<v Speaker 3>I only had two unlocked, and I'm like, I can't
<v Speaker 3>even I can't. I don't like that I can't do
<v Speaker 3>it on first try because it kind of just makes
<v Speaker 3>me want to not like I'm not going to go
<v Speaker 3>back and play.
<v Speaker 2>So you don't know that because not until you finish it.
<v Speaker 2>That that it's not like you go in being like, well,
<v Speaker 2>I can't do this. It's like, oh, after the fact,
<v Speaker 2>they want me to come back later, Okay. I see.
<v Speaker 3>On one hand, I'm thankful because if they showed me
<v Speaker 3>the objectives beforehand, I probably would try to force myself
<v Speaker 3>to complete it. On the other hand, it is odd
<v Speaker 3>to get them after the fact, Like it's like they
<v Speaker 3>want you to replay it, but so far I've not
<v Speaker 3>seen a reason to replay it other than completing those
<v Speaker 3>objectives which do unlock collectibles and new talismans for your character.
<v Speaker 2>But yeah, they show some of them are like you
<v Speaker 2>will get a talisman for this. Yes, those are the ones.
<v Speaker 2>I'm like, maybe I'll go back and do it because
<v Speaker 2>one was like, oh, beat this boss in like a minute.
<v Speaker 2>I was like, I could do that, because I can
<v Speaker 2>totally do that, I should just do That's.
<v Speaker 1>I'm glad to hear you haven't found a need to
<v Speaker 1>replay stage because that kind of worriked me At first.
<v Speaker 1>I got stuck on like the second boss, and I
<v Speaker 1>was like, I don't want to go replay things. Is
<v Speaker 1>that what it's encouraging me to do? But then what
<v Speaker 1>I found was like, u wes, I just had to
<v Speaker 1>change my strategy and approach, yeah, you know, and like
<v Speaker 1>set up different villagers and I was happy about it.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, it's funny. I know that boss you're talking about.
<v Speaker 3>We were talking about it before this, and it took
<v Speaker 3>me like ten to fifteen minutes to beat it with
<v Speaker 3>my weird strategy. And then the objective was like, beat
<v Speaker 3>this boss in under three minutes, and I was like, oh,
<v Speaker 3>I'm I'm doing it wrong. I did something wrong. I
<v Speaker 3>beat it, but I was like, I'm I'm clearly not
<v Speaker 3>optimized in this. So I am thinking a lot more
<v Speaker 3>about my villager makeup and how I'm approaching fights, way
<v Speaker 3>more than I was expecting to when I first started.
<v Speaker 3>I was like, when I first started, I was like, Okay,
<v Speaker 3>I get what this is. This is going to be
<v Speaker 3>a pretty chill strategy esque game. But now I'm like, oh,
<v Speaker 3>I'm actually being really pushed to try different things. I
<v Speaker 3>just did a stage that was a totally brand new
<v Speaker 3>mechanic completely changed the way that stages work, and it
<v Speaker 3>really forced me to rethink my strategy once more. So
<v Speaker 3>I'm really enjoying this in that it's not a super
<v Speaker 3>crunchy like numbers strategy game, which usually do turn me off,
<v Speaker 3>and it's more of like a mechanical almost like a
<v Speaker 3>puzzle game. Like one of you mentioned earlier. It is
<v Speaker 3>it's fun to figure out ways to optimize it. I
<v Speaker 3>think it will be a I think it's going to
<v Speaker 3>be a sleeper hit of the year. I can see
<v Speaker 3>this going quietly into the night, although so far I
<v Speaker 3>don't think it should. It's great.
<v Speaker 2>I've seen other people express the sentiment and now I
<v Speaker 2>agree with it. Where it feels like the game is
<v Speaker 2>like a long loss PS two game because of how
<v Speaker 2>just really weird it is in a way that you
<v Speaker 2>don't really see a lot of big Triple A games anymore.
<v Speaker 1>Like in five years, you're gonna meet people who played
<v Speaker 1>this and you're gonna have a connection with them, you know.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, Like between how hard it is to explain and
<v Speaker 2>even the name is hard to like, I this seems
<v Speaker 2>like almost like a sales like nightmare already, because it's
<v Speaker 2>like if I tell you, like he you should play
<v Speaker 2>can You? Like if I could pronounce like Canutes got
<v Speaker 2>the game with the strategy, but it's not it and
<v Speaker 2>then your friend goes, oh, I'll go google that. Wait
<v Speaker 2>how do I even spell that? Like it just seems
<v Speaker 2>like a hard game to discover, and like I keep
<v Speaker 2>thinking of I don't even know why because this is
<v Speaker 2>a different series, but it reminds me of the Deception series.
<v Speaker 2>For some reason, like play games like Trapped, which we
<v Speaker 2>did a play on years ago, of like the similar
<v Speaker 2>like something is like of that vein of weirdness, like
<v Speaker 2>in that deception Trapped weirdness, which is like a compliment
<v Speaker 2>like I've been enjoying how like unlike anything else it
<v Speaker 2>is out there, but also like how nostalgic it is
<v Speaker 2>because of how weird it is. So I'm definitely gonna
<v Speaker 2>stick with it for for a while.
<v Speaker 3>But it's very Capcom before Capcom became masters at remaking
<v Speaker 3>their beloved games and putting out a Monster Hunter, like
<v Speaker 3>Capcom is a very incredibly like they're they're knit firing
<v Speaker 3>on all cylinders lately, and I think this is another
<v Speaker 3>game where that's a part of that. But this feels
<v Speaker 3>like older.
<v Speaker 2>This is like because last year they're a weird game
<v Speaker 2>that we were like, huh was exo Pribal and then
<v Speaker 2>nowound up being like, oh this is better than I
<v Speaker 2>thought it would be. This is this year's version of that.
<v Speaker 3>Like most of the teams are doing like Resident Evil
<v Speaker 3>and like some Monster Hunter, but there's like this one
<v Speaker 3>team who's like, can we just do some like really
<v Speaker 3>weird stuff every year? And they're like sure, whatever.
<v Speaker 2>Which is cool like that to compliment the Giant Resident
<v Speaker 2>Evil when Monster under releases were like, I know, we
<v Speaker 2>had some weird thing we're working on. We'll put that out.
<v Speaker 2>Like yeah, that's that's a good cadence to me. So yeah,
<v Speaker 2>that's awesome.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, that's that's why I took notice because it
<v Speaker 1>was like, all right, Capcom's putting its weight behind this thing,
<v Speaker 1>you know, I want to see what it is, and
<v Speaker 1>it looks weird and yeah. I I actually kind of
<v Speaker 1>went into it like thinking, like it's not really my genre.
<v Speaker 1>I don't really like managing things or strategize. It's just
<v Speaker 1>not really what I like to do. Man it, it
<v Speaker 1>has it. It's got his teeth in me, Like I
<v Speaker 1>am really surprised. It's it's there's there's enough pickment in
<v Speaker 1>here where I'm kind of like yeah, like yeah this
<v Speaker 1>you know what this is working for me where it's
<v Speaker 1>like it's kind of like secretly a strategy game, Like
<v Speaker 1>that's when it works for me.
<v Speaker 2>It's like it's like that comfortable strategy that pickment, like
<v Speaker 2>that almost cozy strategy, like this is making me think enough,
<v Speaker 2>but it's not again like Number crunching or anything.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, Like, I finished Shadow of the Arth Tree Marcus,
<v Speaker 1>and now I'm kind of like, oh, what am I
<v Speaker 1>going to play? Do I should I go back to
<v Speaker 1>I started? I have like ten hours in a persona three?
<v Speaker 1>Do I pick that back up? I think we're gonna
<v Speaker 1>talk about flint Lock. That was another one that I
<v Speaker 1>kind of dabbled with. But I think, uh, I think
<v Speaker 1>this is the one that's gonna lock me in for
<v Speaker 1>a while. I've been impressed.
<v Speaker 2>Nice congrats with being the owner ring by the way,
<v Speaker 2>just catch up there.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I I did have to sign up for a
<v Speaker 1>month of PlayStation Plus to call some friends too, So does.
<v Speaker 2>That mean it was pay to win? I mean it's on.
<v Speaker 2>It's a little bit like I was.
<v Speaker 1>I had to go literally change my credit card because
<v Speaker 1>I don't do like PS plus and stuff, and like
<v Speaker 1>I was like, like, well, all I got to update
<v Speaker 1>my credit card and pay ten bucks for a month
<v Speaker 1>so that I could call And I literally did it that.
<v Speaker 1>Like I I signed up, I called in two people.
<v Speaker 1>It still took a bunch of tries, but I finally
<v Speaker 1>got two people to help me beat the final boss
<v Speaker 1>and then I canceled the subscription.
<v Speaker 3>Nice. It's like it's not quite pay to win because
<v Speaker 3>from software summoning and co op mechanics are so archaic
<v Speaker 3>and needlessly annoying that yeah, you can also, I don't
<v Speaker 3>put that on you.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, that's not I'm from that's on Sony.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah yeah, oh no, I'm talking about this. I hate
<v Speaker 3>from software is like here's how to play with your
<v Speaker 3>friends mechanics.
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah yeah, oh yeah. When I say friends, I
<v Speaker 1>mean just random people. It wasn't like literal friends, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>just called in randoms. And it also kind of like
<v Speaker 1>doesn't work because so many people are trying to call
<v Speaker 1>in people out front.
<v Speaker 3>That's what I'm saying.
<v Speaker 1>Loss, And it's like you're just say like, nop, that
<v Speaker 1>didn't work. The summing didn't work.
<v Speaker 3>You just have to sit there and like look in
<v Speaker 3>the second you see the yellow start to come up
<v Speaker 3>from the ground, You're like, that's fine, that's fine.
<v Speaker 2>It's like it's like the worst like mini game.
<v Speaker 3>I hate it. I hope their next game is just
<v Speaker 3>like a menu and I can be like, here's my friend,
<v Speaker 3>come join me.
<v Speaker 2>I hope their next game is co op only like
<v Speaker 2>a like a what's the face like? And it takes
<v Speaker 2>two situations, but they don't fix the co op, Like
<v Speaker 2>they're like, you have to do it this way, but
<v Speaker 2>we're not making it easier. That's the next Soul, All right, Well,
<v Speaker 2>can you Sagami path that the gadas out now? Keep
<v Speaker 2>an eye on the website for Wes's full review once
<v Speaker 2>that's up. I've also been playing a kind of a
<v Speaker 2>smaller action y game called Flintlock The Siege of Dawn.
<v Speaker 2>Doing a review on that right now. I'm probably maybe
<v Speaker 2>approaching halfway through the game. I'm not sure, but I
<v Speaker 2>think it's also built as like similar in linked to Knutsugami,
<v Speaker 2>like twenty hours ish. If you haven't seen this, this
<v Speaker 2>is a I'm trying to even not describe how they
<v Speaker 2>build it. I think they they're short. Their elevator pitch
<v Speaker 2>was Souls with God of War in the sense that
<v Speaker 2>you're in this world that is ruled by these gods.
<v Speaker 2>It's sort of like a relatively modern world, like it's
<v Speaker 2>a fantasy world, but like in terms of the technology
<v Speaker 2>people have like muskets and pistols, so like maybe like
<v Speaker 2>colonial almost right, yeah, like nineteenth century maybe if you like,
<v Speaker 2>but like if there were like weird fantasy monsters everywhere too,
<v Speaker 2>Like everyone's like you mentioned like colonial uniforms stuff like that,
<v Speaker 2>and you play as this woman who was trying to
<v Speaker 2>take down all of these gods that have somehow like
<v Speaker 2>ruined the world. I'm not still entirely sure about the
<v Speaker 2>details there that she that she blew up that led
<v Speaker 2>all these gods or something. Yeah, were like yeah, and
<v Speaker 2>like dead people, like zombies have invaded to like basically
<v Speaker 2>like living corpses, and it's kind of her faults.
<v Speaker 1>It's a weird mix of like colonial and like and
<v Speaker 1>monsters and gods and it's just all like stirred up.
<v Speaker 1>And then also they literally sprinkled like gunpowder over the
<v Speaker 1>whole dish, because like gunpowder is like a crucial element
<v Speaker 1>of the world. Like everyone's always talking about gunpowder and.
<v Speaker 2>It's like magic gunpowder too. Yeah. Two, yeah, it's a
<v Speaker 2>I mean I like it for that, Like you don't
<v Speaker 2>see fantasy sort of like in this box. Like it's
<v Speaker 2>not you think of like high fantasy or maybe gritty fantasy,
<v Speaker 2>like a Game of Thrones where this is like no, no,
<v Speaker 2>what if it was just like nineteenth century colonial armies.
<v Speaker 2>But then there was like a weird demon thing that
<v Speaker 2>showed up, you know, like it's unique, it's it's unique,
<v Speaker 2>it's interesting. But then the character I think are uh
<v Speaker 2>nor Vanic, believe's her name. She teams up with this
<v Speaker 2>little fox god and they have sort of like an
<v Speaker 2>initially uneasy alliance because she's like Kratos, so she's like,
<v Speaker 2>I hate all god, I's gonna kill him. But this
<v Speaker 2>guy's like, no, no, I don't like him either. I
<v Speaker 2>can help you out you need me, and he becomes
<v Speaker 2>your sidekick for this thing. And it's an open world game,
<v Speaker 2>but not anywhere near the scale of something like an
<v Speaker 2>Elder Ring or I don't know, Skyrim. It's sort of
<v Speaker 2>like a series of open hubs, like you go through
<v Speaker 2>like different land masses that are like to me, like
<v Speaker 2>just big enough without being overwhelming, Like it's big enough
<v Speaker 2>to feel like vast, but like digestible in that way.
<v Speaker 2>And the combat is a mix of like souls inspired
<v Speaker 2>combat and that the attacks are on the shoulder buttons.
<v Speaker 2>There's a dodging and parrying is important. But then you
<v Speaker 2>have the ranged element with your epistols and like rifles,
<v Speaker 2>and then you also have the little fox buddy whose
<v Speaker 2>name I forget, Inky I think it's his name. He
<v Speaker 2>can kind of curse enemies where if you hit Tryang,
<v Speaker 2>you can kind of like swoop in and build up
<v Speaker 2>like a curse meter on enemies, and then when you
<v Speaker 2>were you hit them with your melee weapons, if you
<v Speaker 2>fill up their curse meter, it'll like send them in
<v Speaker 2>a variety of different sort of like status states, Like
<v Speaker 2>the first one you get can kind of like freeze
<v Speaker 2>them in time. Then you can just kind of wail
<v Speaker 2>on them with your your ax, which is what you
<v Speaker 2>start with. She has kind of like a tomahawk that
<v Speaker 2>she uses. But I would say overall, like I think
<v Speaker 2>my biggest takeaway with this game thus far is that
<v Speaker 2>it is very very fine. It is like the it
<v Speaker 2>is almost like the ultimate version of fine, and that
<v Speaker 2>it like it feels like a budget game in the way,
<v Speaker 2>almost going back to the PS two discussion with Kinisigami,
<v Speaker 2>it feels like one of those sort of like like
<v Speaker 2>middle of the road games that don't pop up anymore,
<v Speaker 2>kind of like the middle class of gaming, like a
<v Speaker 2>like a like a good seven ish game where I
<v Speaker 2>feel like, I don't know if you guys have seen it,
<v Speaker 2>but it feels like there's been a growing sentimental line
<v Speaker 2>of people. Maybe I don't defending the word, but like
<v Speaker 2>being nostalgic for games in that like in that bubble
<v Speaker 2>of like sometimes it just want a good seven game.
<v Speaker 2>Like it's not it's not doing anything wild, it's it's
<v Speaker 2>rough in spots, there's some jang.
<v Speaker 1>They're heavily inspired by other games, and you can see
<v Speaker 1>those inspirations. But it did have a bit of a budget,
<v Speaker 1>but we're not talking like triple a budget, Like it's
<v Speaker 1>it's like the works well, but yeah.
<v Speaker 2>It's like the scope just outsteps the budget. Ye yes,
<v Speaker 2>the right way. Yeah yeah, yeah, Like this game's doing
<v Speaker 2>a lot, and I don't think the money or maybe
<v Speaker 2>even the expertise is all the way there because the
<v Speaker 2>things that it's emulating it falls short of its inspirations.
<v Speaker 2>But it's there is a charm about it that is
<v Speaker 2>keeping you there. Like the combat it is heart, right,
<v Speaker 2>it's got heart. Yeah, I guess. So you know, it's
<v Speaker 2>like you know what you're trying and it's not always working.
<v Speaker 2>But I almost appreciate the effort or the like the
<v Speaker 2>idea of it more than the execution. And that's that's
<v Speaker 2>something where I'm at with most of it, of like
<v Speaker 2>the execution is an all the way it isn't all
<v Speaker 2>the way there, but the idea is cool. Like, I
<v Speaker 2>think the most unique thing this game does is that
<v Speaker 2>it has an interesting sort of like risk reward system
<v Speaker 2>with how you earn souls. So like every time you
<v Speaker 2>do not only like a bunch of combat stuff, but
<v Speaker 2>even like actions like sliding down like a like a
<v Speaker 2>ramp style like land mass, you get these points that
<v Speaker 2>are basically your souls that accumulate and you can cash
<v Speaker 2>them in any time by hitting the A button on
<v Speaker 2>the dpad, But unless you do, they just sit there
<v Speaker 2>and if you get hit, they will reset to zero.
<v Speaker 2>So it's like if you go into a combat encounter
<v Speaker 2>and you just start doing really well, like oh, I'm
<v Speaker 2>hitting all these different combos and I'm mixing up my
<v Speaker 2>attacks and you're building up how many souls you're gonna
<v Speaker 2>get from that encounter, and then someone just blindsides you.
<v Speaker 2>Then it sets to zero, so you're like, oh, man,
<v Speaker 2>I should have banked that during the fight. But then
<v Speaker 2>sometimes you're you have such a low lover number that
<v Speaker 2>you're like, well, I'm gonna kill some dudes to try
<v Speaker 2>to get that up to like a hundred, but then
<v Speaker 2>the longer you go, the more risk you are. I
<v Speaker 2>think that's an interesting sort of like risk reward system
<v Speaker 2>for a genre that is already pretty risk reward because
<v Speaker 2>it does the soul's thing of like when you die
<v Speaker 2>you have to go back to the spot and get
<v Speaker 2>your experience and stuff like that, but it's like another
<v Speaker 2>layer on top of that. And I like the way
<v Speaker 2>that kind of like adds even more tension to the fights.
<v Speaker 1>What do you think do you have to like, the
<v Speaker 1>longer you let it linger, the longer it What am
<v Speaker 1>I trying to say? The longer you let it linger,
<v Speaker 1>the longer it builds up?
<v Speaker 2>Right?
<v Speaker 3>Do you have to let it linger?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, you have to. Like once you cash it in,
<v Speaker 2>he sets back to zero. So you're just kind of deciding,
<v Speaker 2>like you know what, it's almost like adition after every
<v Speaker 2>enemy you defeat, right, like, well, not every because if
<v Speaker 2>you kill like one guy and if you kill him
<v Speaker 2>in a pretty ownermark where you'll get like five and
<v Speaker 2>you're like, well what's that? That's like nothing, So you're like,
<v Speaker 2>I want to build up, like killed a few good things.
<v Speaker 2>But it is that casino thing of like should I
<v Speaker 2>push my luck and just cash this in out, or
<v Speaker 2>could I go get into another big fight and then
<v Speaker 2>you know, potentially double this because that's the only way
<v Speaker 2>you're earning experience, like you're not. Really it's not so
<v Speaker 2>much that the enemies, well I shouldn'aty I was gonna say.
<v Speaker 2>It's not so much that the enemies drop a cent
<v Speaker 2>amount of experience so that you can farm them the
<v Speaker 2>way you do in a traditional souls game, like oh,
<v Speaker 2>I know this guy drops five hundred souls. No matter what,
<v Speaker 2>it's kind of based on like your performance. More so
<v Speaker 2>that flunctuates how much you get, like, oh I did
<v Speaker 2>all this, I parried and then I died, I did
<v Speaker 2>a perfect dodge, and then I did this cool combo,
<v Speaker 2>and now I've got more points. And if I maybe
<v Speaker 2>just went in and shot him in the face and
<v Speaker 2>killed him instantly, you know. So it encourages performance while
<v Speaker 2>also kind of like challenging like how far do you
<v Speaker 2>want to push it? How good do you think you
<v Speaker 2>actually are? Do you want to go into another fight
<v Speaker 2>and keep that thing going. The only problem with it
<v Speaker 2>is that because the combat is is not really anywhere
<v Speaker 2>near is refined as something like Souls I feel like
<v Speaker 2>I've taken a lot of hits that I shouldn't have
<v Speaker 2>or have been frustrating because the pary timing is not
<v Speaker 2>what I want it to be, and I think parry
<v Speaker 2>timing and games is really hard to pull off. I
<v Speaker 2>still think Sekero is the best pery game ever. So
<v Speaker 2>like hard to be when you have com and it's
<v Speaker 2>way it's weird because the combat is not even like
<v Speaker 2>it's a weird thing where it's not even hard, like
<v Speaker 2>the individual enemy encounter for the most part, you can
<v Speaker 2>just like bowl right over them. But then it's hard
<v Speaker 2>because the attacks are tricky to read in a way
<v Speaker 2>that it's like it's not like intentionally tricky of like
<v Speaker 2>oh I gotta study this guy and then you start
<v Speaker 2>to see your openings. It's more like I just feel
<v Speaker 2>like it's the timing feels off or the animations feel off.
<v Speaker 2>Does that make more sense, Like it feels like unintentionally
<v Speaker 2>tough to read. So where like I've I've been like
<v Speaker 2>I should have parried that. I thought I was ready
<v Speaker 2>and it seems like I didn't. What is the window here?
<v Speaker 2>So that that's where to kind of like the lack
<v Speaker 2>of I don't even know if i'd say polish in this sense,
<v Speaker 2>I think it's just lack of refinement, you know, like
<v Speaker 2>it's not like broken and outside of that, like like
<v Speaker 2>the combat again, it's like fun enough, even if it
<v Speaker 2>has like it's it's problems, it's like decently entertaining. I'd
<v Speaker 2>say the thing that I like the most is sort
<v Speaker 2>of the exploration stuff. Like there are these, like I said,
<v Speaker 2>you're navigating this decently large open world and you can
<v Speaker 2>find these cool shortcuts where instead of doing the Soul
<v Speaker 2>style shortcuts of like dropping a ladder or opening a door,
<v Speaker 2>they have these like kind of like terminals that you're
<v Speaker 2>unlocking that open these magic like not teleporting, but they
<v Speaker 2>basically like you gain the ability to fly all over
<v Speaker 2>the place by like hitting a button. I feel like
<v Speaker 2>there's a game that I could compare it to, but
<v Speaker 2>I'm blanking off. But like I don't know if you've
<v Speaker 2>seen them, Kyle, but like you, you pretty much open
<v Speaker 2>up this network of like flying airways where like you
<v Speaker 2>can start walking from inside of a town to another
<v Speaker 2>open that open one of these notes, and then by
<v Speaker 2>hitting triangle you'll unlock all these like kind of fly
<v Speaker 2>points where you're just zipping around very quickly. But it's
<v Speaker 2>like timing base. It's not automatic, like you have to
<v Speaker 2>like zip to one then like if it's too far away,
<v Speaker 2>maybe do like an air dash to get within range
<v Speaker 2>of the next one and the hit triangle to then
<v Speaker 2>zip to whatever the next one is that you're targeting.
<v Speaker 2>And that's pretty fun and I think that's a fun
<v Speaker 2>like streamlined.
<v Speaker 3>Way to get around, like Jedi Survivor. That's kind of
<v Speaker 3>I feel like maybe.
<v Speaker 4>I mean yeah, functionally it is the thing that like
<v Speaker 4>in trailers for the game made me go like, oh,
<v Speaker 4>I want to try this when it comes out frankly
<v Speaker 4>like that like you're flying basically, and I mean essentially
<v Speaker 4>it's functionally.
<v Speaker 1>The same as like a zip line or something. You know,
<v Speaker 1>there's more like it's more spoken had it kind of
<v Speaker 1>where you could like grab onto things and like it
<v Speaker 1>would launch you like it functionally does it serves that purpose,
<v Speaker 1>But it feels cool and it looks cool, and it
<v Speaker 1>is the thing that I like the most maybe in
<v Speaker 1>terms of like the unique mechanics. It's like this the
<v Speaker 1>way you can sort of you know, fast travel quote
<v Speaker 1>unquote within one area.
<v Speaker 2>It's really cool and it looks cool. Yeah, I'm with
<v Speaker 2>you that. I think that's my favorite mechanic in the
<v Speaker 2>game so far, and it encourages exploration because there's things
<v Speaker 2>like on rooftops or in towers that you need those
<v Speaker 2>to reach, and you can do, like you can exit
<v Speaker 2>out of them in different ways where you can either
<v Speaker 2>like boost out of them and you'll do like one
<v Speaker 2>final like air dash, or you can jump out of
<v Speaker 2>them and you'll get like a high jump so you
<v Speaker 2>can like reach a really high perch coming out of
<v Speaker 2>them with them. So I think that stuff is fun,
<v Speaker 2>But like, outside of that, it's pretty basic open world stuff.
<v Speaker 2>Like the side quests that I've done so far, a
<v Speaker 2>pretty boilerplate. The characters i've met, like, I think the
<v Speaker 2>performances are pretty good, but like the characters I've met before,
<v Speaker 2>I haven't met anyone that's like wild me. It's like, okay,
<v Speaker 2>this guy whatever. I think. Graphically, it's it's probably the
<v Speaker 2>most sort of like yeah, there was a budget here,
<v Speaker 2>or like a limited budget, because it doesn't look great
<v Speaker 2>either in performance or in quality mode. So I honestly say,
<v Speaker 2>like just play it in performance and get whatever boost
<v Speaker 2>there is, which isn't super noticeable. But it's like, I mean,
<v Speaker 2>it's it's like the the graphics have a ceiling where
<v Speaker 2>like quality is so negligible that you may as well
<v Speaker 2>just think we're performance and get whatever you get can
<v Speaker 2>out of it. So do you do quality, Marcus? I
<v Speaker 2>usually no, No, I mean I usually do perform. It
<v Speaker 2>does default for a performance in this game, but I
<v Speaker 2>checked just the out of curiosity because I was like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>it just looks super great. Maybe quality looks better and
<v Speaker 2>you're like, oh, I can't tell the difference. But generally,
<v Speaker 2>depending on the game, I'll do performance unless it's something
<v Speaker 2>that doesn't demand it.
<v Speaker 3>I do quality unless they have that nice balanced mode
<v Speaker 3>that are not balanced, but not many devs do it,
<v Speaker 3>but Insomniac does where if you're a monitor or TV
<v Speaker 3>can do like one hundred and twenty or one hundred
<v Speaker 3>and forty four herts, they'll do that weird thing to
<v Speaker 3>the where you can play it at four K but
<v Speaker 3>with forty hertz and it's really nice. But not many
<v Speaker 3>devs do it. But I'm I'm I'm a sicko who
<v Speaker 3>does quality almost always over performance.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I even if something like a Soul's like something
<v Speaker 2>that heldon.
<v Speaker 3>No, those are like the exception, but for the most part,
<v Speaker 3>like if a game is like billing part of its
<v Speaker 3>appeal on visuals, then I am like, I want the
<v Speaker 3>four K I'll take because thirty frames obviously not as
<v Speaker 3>great as sixty. But I after like twenty minutes, thirty
<v Speaker 3>frames kind of disappears for me, and I'm just like,
<v Speaker 3>this is what the game looks like. Now if I
<v Speaker 3>do that thing where you switch to performance and you
<v Speaker 3>go back and it's like, oh no, no, no, this
<v Speaker 3>is bad.
<v Speaker 1>I don't mind thirty, Like I'm not. I am not
<v Speaker 1>a like a frame rate to go, Like, if the
<v Speaker 1>game runs at thirty, that's totally fine, but if you
<v Speaker 1>give me the choice, I'm always going to go for
<v Speaker 1>the higher.
<v Speaker 2>Frame you know. Yeah, which it it does default to
<v Speaker 2>performance for Flint Block, so that maybe maybe they're they're
<v Speaker 2>run the money there with that one. But yeah, other
<v Speaker 2>than that, like I said, it's it seems like a
<v Speaker 2>totally just like at best competent action game that is
<v Speaker 2>a few unique ideas. We'll see how it goes, but
<v Speaker 2>it's it's kind of like that's kind of where my
<v Speaker 2>had them up, Like, yeah, this is like a this
<v Speaker 2>is in the seven ish range so far, which isn't
<v Speaker 2>like terrible by any means. It's just sort of like,
<v Speaker 2>you know, it's it feels like destiny to be one
<v Speaker 2>of those games maybe like Kaisigami, albeit maybe less good
<v Speaker 2>of like the yeah remember flint Line, Like there's like
<v Speaker 2>I feel like one of those games is gonna get
<v Speaker 2>like Passionate Defenders five years from now. Like man, y'all
<v Speaker 2>didn't y'all slept on Flintlock? Yeah I could see that. Yeah, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I remember when you get Zip around the world is
<v Speaker 2>that little fox thing? How much fun that was? And
<v Speaker 2>yeah that was pretty last.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, it feels like it gives me twenty twenty fours
<v Speaker 3>and Mortals of Avian vibes where that game was trying
<v Speaker 3>to do some things and some of it works, some
<v Speaker 3>of it didn't, and it was like kind of in
<v Speaker 3>that weird double A triple A space. I know Morals
<v Speaker 3>of Avian was they said Triple A, but like I
<v Speaker 3>don't know, it felt a little under Triple A to me.
<v Speaker 3>But yeah, two is Evil West, which is a great
<v Speaker 3>game as well.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's got a weird name like Immortals of Avian
<v Speaker 2>where not immediately sure, Yeah, it is, or like, what.
<v Speaker 3>Is the subtitle the subtitled game, even though we probably
<v Speaker 3>don't need a subtitle.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I will say though the colonial like aesthetic it
<v Speaker 2>does lend itself to some interesting outfits because like my
<v Speaker 2>character basically looks like a mix between Cody Rhoads and
<v Speaker 2>like a beatle during the Sergeant Pepper era. I'm kind
<v Speaker 2>of like, well, I don't play a lot of games
<v Speaker 2>where I get to look like this specifically, so that's
<v Speaker 2>kind of neat trying to think that.
<v Speaker 1>It's like, it's like, oh, you know what they should do,
<v Speaker 1>like just a legally distinct Sergeant Pepper's outfits for like
<v Speaker 1>four player co op games. Yeah, like Left for Dead,
<v Speaker 1>they should all be able to dress up Pepper.
<v Speaker 2>They need more Sergeant Pepper in our video games. That's
<v Speaker 2>really the moral right here. You know, Rock Band wasn't enough.
<v Speaker 2>It truly was not all right. But yeah, a Flintlock
<v Speaker 2>Seats with Dawn out. I think as of today that
<v Speaker 2>this podcast is out, so you can go and check
<v Speaker 2>it out for yourself. Let's see, we've also got Kyle.
<v Speaker 1>I wondering if you got my little my message that
<v Speaker 1>I sent you, and I I did get your message
<v Speaker 1>he's worried, all right, and that message is that you
<v Speaker 1>cannot wait to talk about Nintendo World Championship any s edition.
<v Speaker 2>Right.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, we forgot the additude that the Q but and
<v Speaker 1>I was googling when it exactly it comes out. But yeah,
<v Speaker 1>this is like a funky one that kind of I
<v Speaker 1>don't know, came out of nowhere to me where it's
<v Speaker 1>like you there's thirteen Nintendo developed published Nintendo games ANYS games,
<v Speaker 1>and what the game is is it lets you basically
<v Speaker 1>do the you know that that eighties World Championship competition
<v Speaker 1>where like they would like you would speed run like
<v Speaker 1>single player games, and that's what it is. It's like
<v Speaker 1>it feels like if you took The Warrior where Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>micro Games and just made that like the whole game
<v Speaker 1>and focused on ANYS games. Like that's kind of what
<v Speaker 1>you get because it's like a series. It's like, like
<v Speaker 1>I said, there's thirteen NIS games that each one of
<v Speaker 1>those has like eight to fifteen challenges, and some of
<v Speaker 1>them are as simple as like the Mario ones are
<v Speaker 1>like just grab that first mushroom. You see how fast
<v Speaker 1>you can do that, right, And that's like that's like
<v Speaker 1>five seconds four seconds, and then the ultimate challenge for
<v Speaker 1>Mario Brothers is like beat all of Mario brought the
<v Speaker 1>original Mario Brothers, but you have to use the warp
<v Speaker 1>tunnels because you're you're speed running it. You want to
<v Speaker 1>go as quickly as possible. And like the Zelda challenges
<v Speaker 1>are like you know, get the sword, and then the
<v Speaker 1>final one is like beat a full dungeon stuff like that,
<v Speaker 1>you know, and it's there's I'm not really an anys kid.
<v Speaker 1>I certainly like have some fondness in nostalgia for Anys games,
<v Speaker 1>but like my first console as a Super Nintendo and
<v Speaker 1>I and I've I find increasingly that Nintendo games are
<v Speaker 1>tough to go back to, like truly, like they really are.
<v Speaker 1>They're hard to play. They I like the visuals of them,
<v Speaker 1>but they just they don't play very well. And it's
<v Speaker 1>they're really tough. And what this game is successful at
<v Speaker 1>doing is like literally making you play these Nintendo games
<v Speaker 1>for the exact amount of time that they're fun, like truly,
<v Speaker 1>like right, like it's like go jump on a goomba.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, we're done with that challenge now, you know what
<v Speaker 2>I mean. The QA people testing it, they had a
<v Speaker 2>time or next to them, and they're like, the moment
<v Speaker 2>you hate this, please let us know, and that's when
<v Speaker 2>we'll cut this off.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, And I mean, and I think it works really
<v Speaker 1>well for these old nes games. And as a result,
<v Speaker 1>like I had a decent time with it, and it's funny.
<v Speaker 1>I I played the local multiplayer mode with my daughter
<v Speaker 1>and that was like the perfect test case of like
<v Speaker 1>someone who has like zero nostalgia for any of this stuff.
<v Speaker 1>This is just old stuff that old people like. And
<v Speaker 1>she like had a decent time with it because it's
<v Speaker 1>just enough to be like, oh, this is what these
<v Speaker 1>games used to be, this is what Mario used to
<v Speaker 1>look like. Oh, let's play like we're going to play
<v Speaker 1>like three or four rounds where we each play like
<v Speaker 1>five seconds of a level. And I think it's kind
<v Speaker 1>of fun and weird and cool in that way. And
<v Speaker 1>then after that you showed her the Wizard, right, Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I did actually mention the Wizard in my in my review.
<v Speaker 1>I would love to see a like I'm twenty twenty
<v Speaker 1>four kids a reaction to the Wizard.
<v Speaker 2>I like to see that. Gosh, have we watched it
<v Speaker 2>with her?
<v Speaker 1>I wonder there was she made It might have been
<v Speaker 1>on at some point just as like a weird experiment.
<v Speaker 2>When you're like with that video game competition at the end,
<v Speaker 2>like Register was like, as a kid, this looked like
<v Speaker 2>the coolest thing ever in the in the era of
<v Speaker 2>like esports and selling out stadiums.
<v Speaker 1>And I wonder, I mean, it's kind of it is
<v Speaker 1>sort of a history lesson on like the sort of
<v Speaker 1>esports kind of where you know, like we're it kind
<v Speaker 1>of sort of started. I guess you could say, I
<v Speaker 1>don't know, maybe maybe that's not fair.
<v Speaker 2>The Wizard Colon the first sport well, but it was
<v Speaker 2>a real competition, like it was really Yeah, I don't
<v Speaker 2>think it had this Oh actually I was gonna say
<v Speaker 2>I didn't have the same bomb bas but I remember
<v Speaker 2>saying videos of the real ones like actually it kind
<v Speaker 2>of did.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I mean they and the trailers for the game, they
<v Speaker 1>they show clips of it and stuff, and it's funny
<v Speaker 1>because when the game starts up, it is kind of
<v Speaker 1>like you probably don't know what this is. But there
<v Speaker 1>used to be competitions like this back in the day.
<v Speaker 1>Wait soon, so like, yeah, oh, I my review should
<v Speaker 1>be on the site. I gave it a seven seven
<v Speaker 1>to five it's kind of it's kind of shallow, it's
<v Speaker 1>kind of like empty calories kind of gaming, you know,
<v Speaker 1>but it's like it's fun to look back at those
<v Speaker 1>old games. I also got kind of frustrated with the
<v Speaker 1>way the currency works. Is like you spend fifty coins
<v Speaker 1>to unlock a challenge, which like only rewards you like
<v Speaker 1>twenty coins if you do it decent, right, but if
<v Speaker 1>you do it really well, if you get like the
<v Speaker 1>S rating, which is very difficult because these are challenging games,
<v Speaker 1>like maybe you get enough coins to purchase the next challenge.
<v Speaker 1>And I kind of hit a wall pretty quickly where
<v Speaker 1>it was just wins to get anything, you know.
<v Speaker 2>Like replaying stages just to unlock the next challenge.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I was like, sage you like, I guess I'll
<v Speaker 1>go play all the ones I got b's on to
<v Speaker 1>try to get a's or s's and then but then
<v Speaker 1>you do you can go They have like weekly leader
<v Speaker 1>board challenges and stuff, and you can go online and
<v Speaker 1>earn coins by like participating in those. There's no online
<v Speaker 1>multiplayer in the traditional sense. It's not like which is
<v Speaker 1>I had Marcus had to help me. I could not
<v Speaker 1>remember the name of Super Mario thirty five that came
<v Speaker 1>out a couple of years ago. You know the yeah, right,
<v Speaker 1>were you all was it Mario one or was it
<v Speaker 1>Mario three? That you play Mario one okay where you
<v Speaker 1>all are like simultaneously racing and Mario one.
<v Speaker 2>It's not like that.
<v Speaker 1>The local multiplayer mode plays like that, and that's like
<v Speaker 1>up to eight people and that's cool. Like that's a
<v Speaker 1>good party game, especially for like if you have nostalgia
<v Speaker 1>for those games, or even if you don't. Like I said,
<v Speaker 1>I worked well with my daughter. She thought it was
<v Speaker 1>pretty fun. But like the quote unquote, online modes are
<v Speaker 1>like you're playing against other players as ghosts and stuff
<v Speaker 1>like that, which I actually like because then you can
<v Speaker 1>just kind of like keep retrying the challenges over and.
<v Speaker 2>Over then like a Mario Wonders. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>The way it actually displays is like you play like
<v Speaker 1>three rounds and then the first round, you know, the
<v Speaker 1>the you have to be one of the top five,
<v Speaker 1>and the next round you have to be one of
<v Speaker 1>the top two or whatever, and then the next round
<v Speaker 1>it's like one B one, and and the way it
<v Speaker 1>displays all of everyone's runs on screen, and then you
<v Speaker 1>have your own little screen that you're playing on so
<v Speaker 1>you can see what everyone else is doing. You can
<v Speaker 1>also change the setting so it blows up ear screen,
<v Speaker 1>which I did.
<v Speaker 2>But I like that.
<v Speaker 1>It was like kind of it's online and there's rewards
<v Speaker 1>for participating, but it's not actively online where you're know
<v Speaker 1>you're waiting for servers and other players.
<v Speaker 3>Like.
<v Speaker 1>You can just kind of tackle the challenges many times
<v Speaker 1>as you'd like, which is which is pretty fun, and
<v Speaker 1>then you get it. You do get a lot of
<v Speaker 1>coins for that, so you can jump over there to
<v Speaker 1>get coins and stuff like that. But it's it's charming.
<v Speaker 1>It's a charming, nostalgic game that I because of the subtitle.
<v Speaker 1>Speaking of games that don't need subtitles, is any acid
<v Speaker 1>it's Nintendo World Championships coal and any S edition. I
<v Speaker 1>would love to see them do other games like that.
<v Speaker 1>I would love an SNS edition. I would love an
<v Speaker 1>N sixty four edition. I don't know if that's in
<v Speaker 1>the cards. Probably depends on how well this does. They
<v Speaker 1>also didn't I don't think they were doing Nintendo World
<v Speaker 1>Championships for like SN S and N sixty four games
<v Speaker 1>at that point, but that's fun.
<v Speaker 2>I thought it went up to s CNS before they stopped.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, I I you maybe I would totally believe it,
<v Speaker 1>but yeah, an interesting game as if you love if
<v Speaker 1>you have nostalgia for the NES era, Like it's it's
<v Speaker 1>a cool excuse to just play little bite sized chunks
<v Speaker 1>of Like there are thirteen different nes games on there,
<v Speaker 1>so it's it's charming in that way.
<v Speaker 2>Do you feel ready for when Nintendo inevitably announces that
<v Speaker 2>the Championships are coming back? Do you think you're ready
<v Speaker 2>to go? I they did want an E three to
<v Speaker 2>one year. They brought it back a couple of years
<v Speaker 2>in like the WIIU era.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and the Mario Maker. I remember I interviewed the
<v Speaker 1>guy who won and in the interview he sort of
<v Speaker 1>offhanded Lee said that he was going to sell his
<v Speaker 1>trophy and I put that in the interview and people
<v Speaker 1>got mad at him and took it out on me online.
<v Speaker 1>It was a weird thing. It was like one of
<v Speaker 1>the same. Yeah, it was like one of those moments
<v Speaker 1>where people were like really upset with me for like
<v Speaker 1>misquoting this guy, and I'm like, I just I just
<v Speaker 1>wrote what he said for asking the question.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know, that's weird. Yeah, do you think he
<v Speaker 2>was hurting for money? He's like, I gotta eat, I
<v Speaker 2>gotta get rid of this. I gotta flip this thing
<v Speaker 2>like you don't understand. So that was That's a fun
<v Speaker 2>memory Championships for me. But bring it back Nintendo. Why
<v Speaker 2>it's cool. Let's do it with I don't know, switch games.
<v Speaker 2>I guess let's do it, especially in this economy. I
<v Speaker 2>need some trophies to sell some groceries. All right, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I guess did you look up when that's out? Let's
<v Speaker 2>say I have it.
<v Speaker 1>It comes out July eighteenth, so there you go, which
<v Speaker 1>will Yeah, total, it's sweet. I'd be by the time
<v Speaker 1>you're listening to this and the reviews on gameformer dot com.
<v Speaker 2>There you go. This weekend, I and you, Kyle, and
<v Speaker 2>I don't know if you played West, but I know
<v Speaker 2>you played the preview build. We dived into the Concord Beta,
<v Speaker 2>which is Sony's new five five live service game that
<v Speaker 2>looks a lot like Guardians at the Galaxy, but it's
<v Speaker 2>not very much Overwatch or just Hero Shooter inspired. We
<v Speaker 2>talked about it before West because you got to play
<v Speaker 2>it before all of us, But now we have all
<v Speaker 2>had a chance to dive into it. I will say
<v Speaker 2>my initial reaction was that it was I don't want
<v Speaker 2>to say, more fun than I thought, because listening to us,
<v Speaker 2>you you kind of put that over like oh no,
<v Speaker 2>this is better than you think. So I was like, okay,
<v Speaker 2>I could believe that, and it was fun. But then
<v Speaker 2>also to your earlier point about how they're going out
<v Speaker 2>of their way to like almost like you will like
<v Speaker 2>these characters like you will, you will get invested in
<v Speaker 2>this ip there're that opening cut, sne that that surprisingly
<v Speaker 2>long cinematic at the start of the game was like
<v Speaker 2>frustrating and annoying, not because it wasn't well done, like
<v Speaker 2>it looked great, just like it was rendered really well
<v Speaker 2>and the animation was nice and the performances were fine,
<v Speaker 2>But it was like the knowing of like this, this
<v Speaker 2>isn't gonna go anywhere. This isn't a single player game,
<v Speaker 2>Like you're sending so much time like you're almost man.
<v Speaker 3>Is it them fine? Getting the map like and gaining
<v Speaker 3>access to be free gunners? Okay?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and the green guy was like hitting on the computer.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, what was that all about? I was like, are
<v Speaker 2>they in love? Like there's a there's a weird relationship there.
<v Speaker 3>That's the cut scene that will open the game when
<v Speaker 3>it launches, too, they told us, so you'll get to
<v Speaker 3>watch it again.
<v Speaker 2>Cool is like twice as long as that over Watch
<v Speaker 2>opening cinematic with Winston.
<v Speaker 3>Oh oh it it feels like it. But I don't
<v Speaker 3>know Blizzard cinematics. That's a high bar. I don't. I
<v Speaker 3>don't know if I fault them for not matching that
<v Speaker 3>quality because Blizzard's like almost the league of their own.
<v Speaker 3>But yeah, whenever you're jumping into that same.
<v Speaker 2>It looks nice. It's just more like, yeah, it's so
<v Speaker 2>much upfront like it is, like I said, it's the
<v Speaker 2>reverse Overwatch, where like that wasn't really the point, but
<v Speaker 2>they did such a good job of what they gave
<v Speaker 2>you that you it made me like organically interested, like
<v Speaker 2>I would like to learn more about Winston. He seems cool,
<v Speaker 2>whereas this one's like, we're gonna give you everything up front,
<v Speaker 2>and it's like, but I it's not, it's this isn't
<v Speaker 2>You're not doing it in a way I would like
<v Speaker 2>to absorb its like I almost will, like I don't
<v Speaker 2>want to stop trying to trick me. It's thinking this
<v Speaker 2>is something that it's not.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, like it's almost like if it had been a
<v Speaker 1>reward for hitting level five or something. You know, I'm
<v Speaker 1>just start just throwing out arbitrary numbers there of just
<v Speaker 1>like when you've had a chance to sort of play
<v Speaker 1>with the characters and stuff, and it's like and it
<v Speaker 1>feels like we're complaining about it a lot. It's fine,
<v Speaker 1>It's like it's it's you know, you could, you could
<v Speaker 1>probably skip it, but I didn't want to skip it
<v Speaker 1>because I felt like I should be skipping it. And
<v Speaker 1>then I don't know, I got into the game, and
<v Speaker 1>I'm not an online shooter guy. I really don't play
<v Speaker 1>a lot of online games. But me and Alex streamed
<v Speaker 1>it for an hour on Friday, and I found a
<v Speaker 1>character that I really liked and I was having a
<v Speaker 1>good time with it. I almost voluntarily played it for
<v Speaker 1>fun over the weekend. I mean, where was that all?
<v Speaker 2>Right?
<v Speaker 3>To me?
<v Speaker 2>It was? Yeah, I mean, I'm like, I'm like you, Kyle, Like,
<v Speaker 2>I'm not the biggest multiplayer shooter I overwatched one was
<v Speaker 2>one of the very few that like broke through and
<v Speaker 2>was like, oh no, this is cool. I want to
<v Speaker 2>I want to willingly spend time with this and I
<v Speaker 2>could perhaps see myself with this game, because I think
<v Speaker 2>it plays really well, It moves nice, it looks nice.
<v Speaker 2>I I only played as Lenox, the dragon man looking dude,
<v Speaker 2>but he wound up him after like one match. I
<v Speaker 2>was like, Linux is not my guy. I know you're
<v Speaker 2>the star of this game for some reason, but at
<v Speaker 2>least maybe ostensibly he is. But I mean, I guess
<v Speaker 2>he fit my place. Dogs you know, they start with
<v Speaker 2>him by default, And I was like, actually, I'm stick
<v Speaker 2>with this guy. And also I, at least for hero shootes,
<v Speaker 2>I try to stick with one character just to learn,
<v Speaker 2>like what is how does this game work? Let me
<v Speaker 2>just instead of jumping around too quickly. I only ever
<v Speaker 2>picked the astronaut lady, the one is like in a spacesuit.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I like she looked she looks like a member
<v Speaker 1>of like a low budget like sixty sci fi show
<v Speaker 1>like early Star Trek, right, like is what her costume
<v Speaker 1>kind of looks like?
<v Speaker 2>Which I like one of those story Right she was
<v Speaker 2>on the rooftop and Independence Day with those idiots Like
<v Speaker 2>I'm blown up? He was like, I only picked her.
<v Speaker 2>My mistake. That's the only reason why I picked her
<v Speaker 2>because I was trying to pick Lenox again when I die,
<v Speaker 2>but she sayed, all right, but yeah, I I I don't.
<v Speaker 2>He's like, I don't even know what really to say
<v Speaker 2>specifically about it other than oh this is this seems
<v Speaker 2>well made so far, like it's quick, it's snappy, the
<v Speaker 2>at least for Lennox. I liked his abilities. The interface
<v Speaker 2>is pretty nice. It felt good to get in there,
<v Speaker 2>and I played like multiple rounds in a row, like
<v Speaker 2>I think I got up to level six, which was
<v Speaker 2>one of the like milestones for one of the like
<v Speaker 2>battle paths or unlockable things, and I was kind of
<v Speaker 2>like goes like, well, let me get the level six
<v Speaker 2>because I think I opened up like another like menu
<v Speaker 2>tab or something, yeah, which I have not like looked
<v Speaker 2>into yet because the beta is over now, but it's
<v Speaker 2>coming back. I think it's this weekend that they're opening
<v Speaker 2>it up again. Okay.
<v Speaker 3>I think it's the eighteenth maybe, which would.
<v Speaker 2>Be Thursday, okay, yeah. I found it.
<v Speaker 3>Opens the eighteenth and goes through the twenty first, which
<v Speaker 3>is okay, okay, Sunday, Yeah, Thursday through Sunday, and that's
<v Speaker 3>an open beta, so everyone on PlayStation A PC can
<v Speaker 3>play that.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, check it out. I found.
<v Speaker 1>I jumped around characters quite a bit and then I
<v Speaker 1>landed on it. Z is her name, which I like.
<v Speaker 1>The name is really.
<v Speaker 2>Lame, but is that the Nightcrawler looking? Yeah, she has
<v Speaker 2>a tail. Like.
<v Speaker 1>I really liked playing at her because she had like
<v Speaker 1>a really cool sub Her sub machine gun felt really good.
<v Speaker 1>Everyone's guns feel good. But then she can also like
<v Speaker 1>teleport and then when she does her dodge, she would
<v Speaker 1>like clone herself to like make you know, a distraction version.
<v Speaker 1>And I just yeah, it was funny because I was
<v Speaker 1>like enjoying myself and having a decent time, and I
<v Speaker 1>was like, oh, the guns feel pretty good. I'm but
<v Speaker 1>when I started playing as her, I was like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>I'm having a blast now. I just I happened to
<v Speaker 1>find a character that I really liked, which is what
<v Speaker 1>it takes in these kinds of games.
<v Speaker 3>You know, did you guys mess with the crew stuff
<v Speaker 3>at all? Because I so in my preview, I kind
<v Speaker 3>of touched on it a little bit, like while there,
<v Speaker 3>I was trying to get a grasp on and I
<v Speaker 3>was watching some streams over this weekend of it, just
<v Speaker 3>because I had a long car ride and I was bored,
<v Speaker 3>and I that the person I was watching kind of
<v Speaker 3>clicked into play something that I thought might be happening
<v Speaker 3>when I played it, And I'm curious if you guys
<v Speaker 3>interacted like made the crew decks or whatever they're called
<v Speaker 3>it all.
<v Speaker 2>I didn't understand. I opened it like I went into
<v Speaker 2>it like at the tail end of my session with it,
<v Speaker 2>and I like read it and then stared at it,
<v Speaker 2>and I was like, I I am not in the
<v Speaker 2>mood to figure out what this is. So I it
<v Speaker 2>did it okay?
<v Speaker 3>So it is confusing. Yeah, So you like make your
<v Speaker 3>crew that you bring into a match, and that's like
<v Speaker 3>your roster of heroes that you'll personally choose from or
<v Speaker 3>want to choose from. And there are crew perks, which
<v Speaker 3>this was really interesting to me when it finally clicked,
<v Speaker 3>because I was kind of it's a really unclear system,
<v Speaker 3>and even when I was like at PlayStation playing the game,
<v Speaker 3>I was really struggling to get grasp on and watching
<v Speaker 3>streams over the weekend, I got it. So you have
<v Speaker 3>your crew perks, and you use one character and they
<v Speaker 3>have one perk, and I forget like you just unlock
<v Speaker 3>that perk after doing so much with that character. That
<v Speaker 3>perk then carries over into the rest of your crew.
<v Speaker 3>So ideally, you play with one character, you get their
<v Speaker 3>perk unlocked in a match, and then when you have it,
<v Speaker 3>you switch to the next character who gets that perk
<v Speaker 3>you just unlocked and has their own perk, So then
<v Speaker 3>you want to unlock theirs, so that puts two perks active.
<v Speaker 3>Then you want to switch to another character and it
<v Speaker 3>carries over the perks. So depending on how long a
<v Speaker 3>game is, you could get to your last character and
<v Speaker 3>your crew and have like four to five different perks active,
<v Speaker 3>which would greatly change how you play, almost in a
<v Speaker 3>way where it's like, I don't know if you should
<v Speaker 3>be sticking to a specific hero for an entire match,
<v Speaker 3>Like I think you do want to do that weird
<v Speaker 3>unlocked perk, pull it over to your next character and
<v Speaker 3>continue that trend going, which at least is it's interesting,
<v Speaker 3>very confusing, and I thought so, and it's clear speaking
<v Speaker 3>to you two that you guys didn't understand it either,
<v Speaker 3>Like they definitely need to massage the mechanic a bit
<v Speaker 3>because it doesn't it doesn't feel natural. Yeah, I think.
<v Speaker 2>Bonus for switching. That's interesting. Yeah, yeah, exactly. That was
<v Speaker 2>one thing that frustrated me too, is that there was
<v Speaker 2>no tatorial in the beta, like it's there, but you
<v Speaker 2>can't use it. Like that's where I went to. I
<v Speaker 2>was like, well, let me learn how to play this
<v Speaker 2>games like, oh, well, I guess I'm doing it live.
<v Speaker 2>But okay, so wait, can is there like a size
<v Speaker 2>limit to the crew? Because they hit they gave what
<v Speaker 2>looked like the starter crew and it looked like just
<v Speaker 2>the whole roster, which I was like, what's the point
<v Speaker 2>of having it?
<v Speaker 3>Think it's like I don't have the number from me,
<v Speaker 3>I want to say it's like five or six or
<v Speaker 3>or it might be a situation where you can have
<v Speaker 3>the whole roster, but obviously in one single match you're
<v Speaker 3>not going to need all sixteen or have very many characters,
<v Speaker 3>So maybe how much I die, Like maybe they want
<v Speaker 3>four or five and like focus on them. But yeah,
<v Speaker 3>I think that's a cool differentiator from something like Overwatch,
<v Speaker 3>which you are encouraged to kind of stick to your
<v Speaker 3>character for the sake of your team comp which is
<v Speaker 3>another thing Concord. Actually, I'm curious what you guys think.
<v Speaker 3>So they told me there's not really team comps. There's
<v Speaker 3>not a tank, there's not an assault, there's not support
<v Speaker 3>like on paper. But when I was playing, and even
<v Speaker 3>with the other journalists I played with, it was like,
<v Speaker 3>all right, I think we need someone to pick star
<v Speaker 3>Child because he's a tank and somebody needs to be
<v Speaker 3>a healer. Did you guys feel that kind of role
<v Speaker 3>play happening in the game or.
<v Speaker 2>It felt yeah, because I mean even in the menu selection,
<v Speaker 2>I thought I saw little taps where I was like,
<v Speaker 2>I notice, isn't one of those but these tabs almost
<v Speaker 2>indicate that, oh well, these characters are kind of similar.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, it's like brawler and words like that, I believe
<v Speaker 3>or somethingeh, which.
<v Speaker 2>Is like is that not a class different? So yeah,
<v Speaker 2>yeah they're there. Yeah, yeah, sure, it's I don't think
<v Speaker 2>it's as free form as they maybe want you to believe,
<v Speaker 2>because even watching other people play, like, there were people
<v Speaker 2>I would avoid because it's like, I don't think my
<v Speaker 2>class can handle that class, you know what I mean, Like,
<v Speaker 2>or at least not by myself. I need someone else
<v Speaker 2>to be here, like a tank or something. So yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I don't know. Maybe maybe it'll wind up being a
<v Speaker 2>moot point, you know. Yeah, but I yeah, Okay, now
<v Speaker 2>that I know about the how the crew works, I'll
<v Speaker 2>probably mess around with it when the bait opens up
<v Speaker 2>again this weekend and see how I like it. But
<v Speaker 2>I am positive on it so far. There's a part
<v Speaker 2>of me and maybe the game has this who knows,
<v Speaker 2>we haven't played the full game. Because of how much
<v Speaker 2>narrative there is, it almost makes me wish they do
<v Speaker 2>like an Exo Primal thing of like weaving that into
<v Speaker 2>a multiplayer framework, Like I think that game has did
<v Speaker 2>that better than maybe any other game of like telling
<v Speaker 2>a single like a single player story in a multiplayer game. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>so it makes me wish, like, man, if they just
<v Speaker 2>copied Exo Primal basically or did something similar, maybe that
<v Speaker 2>would be a better way to absorb this, this story
<v Speaker 2>that you're so desperate to tell everybody Otherwise, I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>It just seems like it's cool that you put the
<v Speaker 2>effort in. But I mean, is there going to be
<v Speaker 2>an ending?
<v Speaker 3>No?
<v Speaker 2>Then, so a lot of why should I care? But yeah,
<v Speaker 2>that's uh, that's concord. We'll we'll see how the second
<v Speaker 2>beta shapes up. Now that everyone will be in this time,
<v Speaker 2>I'm excited to get back into it and mess around
<v Speaker 2>with it. Maybe I'll pick the little Nightcrawler demon girl,
<v Speaker 2>see I like her. Yeah. Like, the last game I
<v Speaker 2>have to talk about is Zendless Zone zero. The old
<v Speaker 2>zz Z came out a couple of weeks ago. Uh
<v Speaker 2>you guys, k I think you said you tried it?
<v Speaker 2>Have you fired weep at all? Wes?
<v Speaker 1>I down I downloaded it and I started it, but
<v Speaker 1>like literally, I'm talking like three minutes like I I
<v Speaker 1>attacked three enemies and then I just the timing of
<v Speaker 1>my life. I was like, oh, I got to go
<v Speaker 1>make dinner, so I had to like turn it on.
<v Speaker 2>Oh okay, they're saying it was as fun as the
<v Speaker 2>averageing Ees game for you, Yeah, that's night. I stopped playing.
<v Speaker 2>The moment is not being fun. But I've I've been
<v Speaker 2>keep an eye on this game for a while. When
<v Speaker 2>I was the mobile editor at game Spot for a
<v Speaker 2>little stint there, this was one I was like always talking,
<v Speaker 2>does it amount that long ago? Yeah? No, it was
<v Speaker 2>a while ago. Yeah. I was always like, can we please?
<v Speaker 1>I want to talk about this game because it is
<v Speaker 1>like a mobile and PlayStation game, and Hoyo Versus is
<v Speaker 1>so huge with genchen impact and everything. I just took
<v Speaker 1>the way it looks. I think the animation is incredible
<v Speaker 1>to get. Like the one of the opening cut scenes,
<v Speaker 1>I was like, yeah, this looks really nice, but I
<v Speaker 1>haven't touched the video game part of it at all.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I'm with you. That's maybe my favorite part about
<v Speaker 2>this game, besides the combat that I'll talk about, is
<v Speaker 2>that it like oozes style. Like if we if this
<v Speaker 2>was like old Giant Bomb game of a year where
<v Speaker 2>they had like best style, this would be like a
<v Speaker 2>front Runner Like it's got almost like a a jet
<v Speaker 2>set radio slash like maybe like Hi Fi Rush slash
<v Speaker 2>like reboot, like the TV show Reboot kind of to
<v Speaker 2>it that I'm really liking. I think, like the there's
<v Speaker 2>so much personality in this game, like in everything, whether
<v Speaker 2>it's like the exaggerated animations and like reactions from the characters.
<v Speaker 2>So even just the way it's like even taking something
<v Speaker 2>as basic is like what's essentially like board game navigation
<v Speaker 2>that I'll touch on in a bit and making that
<v Speaker 2>as like cool looking as they can. I love just
<v Speaker 2>looking at this game. It's I'm gonna like try and
<v Speaker 2>probably fail to explain the premise because I'm still trying
<v Speaker 2>to figure out exactly how things work in this world.
<v Speaker 2>But like going back to the reboot comparison, it's kind
<v Speaker 2>of that where you play as this brother and sister
<v Speaker 2>who are called proxies, and they basically are like helpers
<v Speaker 2>for people called agents that infiltrate a potentially digital world
<v Speaker 2>that if you stay in too long you become a
<v Speaker 2>horrible monster. And also it's illegal for them to be
<v Speaker 2>doing this, so you're technically like a bandit of sorts
<v Speaker 2>or a criminal to like do missions and maybe find
<v Speaker 2>treasure or something like that. But just like the separation
<v Speaker 2>of like you're at you're like the man in the
<v Speaker 2>chair guiding the people that are who actively control during
<v Speaker 2>like combat and stuff like that, and they're like, all right,
<v Speaker 2>you're gonna go into the hollow I think it's called.
<v Speaker 2>So it's like a matrix situation. I don't know, it's
<v Speaker 2>either like a matrix or a digimond or a reboot situation.
<v Speaker 2>It's like in that line. Yes, it's very much in
<v Speaker 2>that vein. Even if I could not like definitively define
<v Speaker 2>what it actually is that you're going to, right, but
<v Speaker 2>another world will say or something, and like there is
<v Speaker 2>a main story, which is like you know, all Hoyo
<v Speaker 2>Verse games like Canchin and was the other Honk I
<v Speaker 2>a star Reil, like they all have like main story
<v Speaker 2>and like missions and stuff like that, and like I
<v Speaker 2>will say, the initial premise does have me like somewhat
<v Speaker 2>hooked or I'm like, okay, I want to see some stuff.
<v Speaker 2>He like some things like a hacker that reaches out
<v Speaker 2>and just sort of like the world setup of just
<v Speaker 2>this like this this like online ring of people that
<v Speaker 2>do the thing that you do, but you're like the
<v Speaker 2>best one, Like you're like famous, but nobody knows who
<v Speaker 2>you actually because they're the brother and Sister's day job
<v Speaker 2>is that you work in a video store like a
<v Speaker 2>it's as futuristic as everything in this in is. In
<v Speaker 2>this world, you just sell like VHS tapes to people
<v Speaker 2>as your day and that's like your hub is just
<v Speaker 2>like your little dinky video store. But like when you're
<v Speaker 2>in the Hollow and you're playing as the three agents,
<v Speaker 2>who are like there's like three main story agents, and
<v Speaker 2>then you can like because it's a gotcha game, you
<v Speaker 2>can get other agents that are more kind of like generic,
<v Speaker 2>like the free one they give you is like this
<v Speaker 2>maid who has like a giant like pizza cutter weapon,
<v Speaker 2>like that one weapon from Bloodborne, and she's like, I'm
<v Speaker 2>afraid of everything, but I'm also like really good at fighting.
<v Speaker 2>You know that archetype, and like we all have that brand,
<v Speaker 2>and I would say the combat is like really fun.
<v Speaker 2>Like I think that because like Genshain was more like
<v Speaker 2>a basically breath of a wild fantasy, and then Hanky
<v Speaker 2>is kind of like a turn based RP, and this
<v Speaker 2>is straight up just like nah, we just really like
<v Speaker 2>double May Cry more or less. Where you're going in
<v Speaker 2>there and you're doing like these really stylish combos, but
<v Speaker 2>you're controlling three party members at once that you can
<v Speaker 2>switch to instantly by hitting the shoulder buttons, so you
<v Speaker 2>can do like a thing where like hitting mid combo,
<v Speaker 2>then hit our one, and then your other teammate just
<v Speaker 2>comes in and then like keeps juggling someone because one
<v Speaker 2>of them is a like one of them is like
<v Speaker 2>a sword wheeler, one of them's like a gunslinger guy,
<v Speaker 2>and then the third one is like a she has
<v Speaker 2>like a big cannon that does like some like status
<v Speaker 2>ailment damage. So it's kind of like building your three
<v Speaker 2>person team to kind of like either compliment each other
<v Speaker 2>or whatever strategy that you kind of want to go
<v Speaker 2>for because they all have like different roles and stuff.
<v Speaker 2>But like going back to how good everything looks, like
<v Speaker 2>the animation and like the style when you're just like
<v Speaker 2>blasting through these enemies, it just looks and feels really good.
<v Speaker 2>There's a parry system where like instead of pairying an attack,
<v Speaker 2>you can parry by switching to another character. So like
<v Speaker 2>right before an attack lands, if you hit the switch button,
<v Speaker 2>that character will run in and parry and then do
<v Speaker 2>like a big follow up attack and it looks super cool.
<v Speaker 2>And then you're building up to like like big flashy
<v Speaker 2>finishing moves that each character has, and that's been fun
<v Speaker 2>is just running around just like tearing through these weird
<v Speaker 2>looking kind of like monster things. But then in between fights,
<v Speaker 2>like the way you traverse the hollows is like it's
<v Speaker 2>like this like it's like a board game. It's the
<v Speaker 2>best way I can describe it. Where you're moving down
<v Speaker 2>tiles and then every tile is like like one tile
<v Speaker 2>is either a combat encounter and then you like zoom
<v Speaker 2>in and you're in the combat arena or you're finding
<v Speaker 2>treasure or just like activating buttons to get new paths
<v Speaker 2>to get to where you want to go. And the
<v Speaker 2>presentation like it just looks like a wall of like
<v Speaker 2>CRT televisions and again going back to down which style
<v Speaker 2>this game has, Like it looks neat, like just the
<v Speaker 2>animation even when you're just moving from TV to TV,
<v Speaker 2>like there's like a like a bounce to it or
<v Speaker 2>just like a fluidity where it's just like, Okay, they
<v Speaker 2>could have just made this like you just selected, but
<v Speaker 2>they really wanted to make this look like it has
<v Speaker 2>like personality to it, and there's like puzzle solving there
<v Speaker 2>where like there's even like box puzzles in this thing
<v Speaker 2>where you're like you're playing like little box tiles that
<v Speaker 2>you have to push on the button tile so that
<v Speaker 2>the button stays and you open like the exit or
<v Speaker 2>something like that. So it's it's not like an open
<v Speaker 2>series of like levels that you're just running through. You're
<v Speaker 2>just doing this and then you can get into a
<v Speaker 2>tile that is combat. Then that's when you're doing combat,
<v Speaker 2>and then like outside of that when you're into like
<v Speaker 2>the real world, I guess in the video story, like
<v Speaker 2>it's got like a smallish open world that I forgot
<v Speaker 2>who said it, but I heard someone compared to Splatoons
<v Speaker 2>kind of open hub, and it does remind me of that,
<v Speaker 2>just in like a little city blocking. Yeah, like you're
<v Speaker 2>talking to characters like vendors. Vendors the buy stuff or
<v Speaker 2>do little side quest for. But it's kind of like
<v Speaker 2>at least as far as I've seen. I don't know
<v Speaker 2>if it gets any bigger because I'm still relatively early too,
<v Speaker 2>but I played about two hours so far, but it's
<v Speaker 2>like in that scale. But yeah, it seems like fun.
<v Speaker 2>It has like interesting hooks. I obviously the further you play,
<v Speaker 2>that's when it's kind of the cause it's a free game,
<v Speaker 2>and you know, if you play Genchen or or Honky, like,
<v Speaker 2>you know there's micro transactions because it's gotcha game. I
<v Speaker 2>played probably about like fifteen hours of Genchin and really
<v Speaker 2>liked it and never spent any money, and never felt
<v Speaker 2>the need to spend money because I feel like they
<v Speaker 2>give you like so much that you're like, I don't know,
<v Speaker 2>I like the game, but I don't think i'd like
<v Speaker 2>it enough to ever feel the need to spend money
<v Speaker 2>because I feel like I'm find what I got and
<v Speaker 2>I'm hoping this retains that they're the Other thing is
<v Speaker 2>that there's like nineteen different currencies in this game, so
<v Speaker 2>I can barely tell which one even costs real money,
<v Speaker 2>to be honest with you, because they give you so much,
<v Speaker 2>and you're like, well, what's the like, what is the
<v Speaker 2>premium curtcy? Do I even have any? I'm gonna assume no,
<v Speaker 2>but I I've been able to buy and unlock and
<v Speaker 2>upgrade things with like the six that I have now,
<v Speaker 2>so I think I'm good. But you know, with these
<v Speaker 2>kind of games, you gotta wait to get like well
<v Speaker 2>like ten fifteen hours deep before whatever friction that could
<v Speaker 2>be there starts to show itself. But I feel like
<v Speaker 2>I never played Honky Star Rail, so I can't speak
<v Speaker 2>to that one. But I feel like Genshen, at least
<v Speaker 2>in my time with it, which would have been like
<v Speaker 2>launch period Ginshin, it felt like like a good one
<v Speaker 2>of those like it didn't. I never felt like pressured
<v Speaker 2>at all to be like I should. I'm not gonna
<v Speaker 2>succeed if I don't spend money, And I feel like
<v Speaker 2>that's been the sentiment from like at least my friends
<v Speaker 2>that kept with Genschen and played like the expansions and stuff.
<v Speaker 2>They're like, oh no, I barely ever spend anything, so
<v Speaker 2>I hope they you know, I hope that's true here.
<v Speaker 2>But it's a well made thing, Like I'm probably gonna,
<v Speaker 2>like maybe just check in with it every now and diggs.
<v Speaker 2>I do kind of want to see where the main
<v Speaker 2>story goes, like there's some some weird things that happen
<v Speaker 2>in that that prologue.
<v Speaker 1>But I am scared of free to play games like
<v Speaker 1>this in general, but I do I do want to
<v Speaker 1>spend some time with this.
<v Speaker 2>It's got a vibe. Yeah, it's got a neat vibe.
<v Speaker 2>What about us? Do you think you'll be?
<v Speaker 3>I also try to stay away the vibe is this
<v Speaker 3>has been the most of their games that I've wanted
<v Speaker 3>to check out, just because Kinchin's not really my style.
<v Speaker 3>Honky's just very sci fi, which I've got enough sci
<v Speaker 3>fi to play in my backlog. But I really like
<v Speaker 3>the like y two K cyber funkish type vibe that
<v Speaker 3>is going as endless. But I try to stay away
<v Speaker 3>from not just free to play, but the free to
<v Speaker 3>play games where there are randomized elements of buying things
<v Speaker 3>because I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff, and
<v Speaker 3>I know myself, so if there's a cool character I want,
<v Speaker 3>I will spend money that I shouldn't spend on it.
<v Speaker 3>So I'm trying to resist the urge, which is going
<v Speaker 3>well so currently because there's a lot to play. But
<v Speaker 3>I see more and more of this game and I'm like,
<v Speaker 3>it is very cool. Also it's on mobile too, which
<v Speaker 3>and I don't know if there's cross progression, but that
<v Speaker 3>seems dangerous for my tendencies as well, so I'm like,
<v Speaker 3>I need to be careful.
<v Speaker 2>I've heard it runs very house, which I came down.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I've got I played Fortnite regularly and I spend
<v Speaker 3>too much on skins already there, Like, I don't need
<v Speaker 3>another game where I'm spending money on cosmetics and other
<v Speaker 3>although these aren't even just cosmetic. This is like game
<v Speaker 3>changing stuff. So I respect it from a distance and
<v Speaker 3>hopefully I can retain discipline and continue to respect it
<v Speaker 3>from a distance.
<v Speaker 2>Kyle, I'm gonna break your disciplines now when I know
<v Speaker 2>your favorite character in Concord. I unlocked a character in
<v Speaker 2>Zenles Zone zero that is a blue Devil lady, all right,
<v Speaker 2>so you know right up your alley there. I'm just
<v Speaker 2>saying she seems pretty al right. She got a big
<v Speaker 2>old like butcher knife sword thing, big old butcher knife sword.
<v Speaker 2>Say yeah, she seems pretty cheerful about it. Well, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>how about we jump into some housekeeper before we answer
<v Speaker 2>a small bunch of listener questions. Of course, thanks again

<v Speaker 2>got the good quality.
<v Speaker 3>It's not good progress, just progress.
<v Speaker 2>Last episode there was a minimal Progress's a good time.
<v Speaker 2>We're not right. Yeah, things reset a lot.
<v Speaker 3>There's no need rress majoras Mask. There's nothing happening. There's
<v Speaker 3>no time limits any time.

<v Speaker 2>that gets you access to the channel. We have a
<v Speaker 2>Game Informer Show channel in there where I usually do
<v Speaker 2>the call for listener questions the weeks that we do them.
<v Speaker 2>But if you're not in a discord, you can send
<v Speaker 2>us an email at podcasts at gaminformer dot com. And
<v Speaker 2>actually our first question is via email from Mike Boyle,
<v Speaker 2>who ask is there anything in a game or series
<v Speaker 2>that you find oddly satisfying? Like me, it's when you
<v Speaker 2>holdt to your weapon and mass effect and the way
<v Speaker 2>that they shrink down and then magnetically stick to your
<v Speaker 2>armor and then when you unholter them they grow back
<v Speaker 2>to their appropriate size. So any weird little things and
<v Speaker 2>games that you're just find just weirdly satisfying.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, like poking about your lightsaber in the Jedi games,
<v Speaker 1>which is kind of a similar thing. You know that
<v Speaker 1>you can manually put away a weapon, that's always that
<v Speaker 1>is always a nice touch.
<v Speaker 2>I used to like in the do you guys remember
<v Speaker 2>the I don't remember what X Men game it was.
<v Speaker 2>It might have just called thing call x Men, but
<v Speaker 2>it was for Sega Genesis. It was like a side
<v Speaker 2>scrolling action game. You could play either it's Wolverine, ganded Nightcrawler,
<v Speaker 2>and I think Cyclass, but you also had assist characters
<v Speaker 2>like Storm could fly in and help you out. But
<v Speaker 2>if you played this Wolverine, you could manually like act
<v Speaker 2>like pull out or retract his claws. And I remember
<v Speaker 2>a kid thinking that was so cool, Like as dumb
<v Speaker 2>as that sounded like, it was like part of the
<v Speaker 2>fantasy because if you ever watched the animated series, I
<v Speaker 2>know you said you haven't seen it, Kyle, but he
<v Speaker 2>does that a lot and a lot of times he
<v Speaker 2>doesn't follow it through because it's a kids show, but
<v Speaker 2>he does a lot of like going up to someone
<v Speaker 2>bringing his claws out and threatening to slice their heads off,
<v Speaker 2>and then that's as far as he gets. So like
<v Speaker 2>at the time, I was like, oh, it's cool that
<v Speaker 2>I can basically do that, but I can actually follow
<v Speaker 2>through and slice someone's head off, actually hit some people here, Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>unless they're robots, then you can just go wild.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know if any or this one. I actually
<v Speaker 3>didn't know this about mass effect. That's a cool one.
<v Speaker 3>I was trying to find like a clip of that
<v Speaker 3>because I've never noticed that in my playing through the
<v Speaker 3>games I have two. One is not as oddly satisfying
<v Speaker 3>as that, But I like in Persona five when you
<v Speaker 3>drink coffee at Cafe the Blank, it gives you a
<v Speaker 3>little like just.
<v Speaker 2>Like about the coffee I do.
<v Speaker 3>Actually, yeah, funny enough, I just I just My birthday
<v Speaker 3>was a couple of weeks ago and one of my
<v Speaker 3>wife's gifts came in late and she got me this.
<v Speaker 3>It was a Cafe the Blank sticker, which actually is
<v Speaker 3>where I got the inspiration for this. But I like
<v Speaker 3>that it gives you a little tidbit about the coffee
<v Speaker 3>or drinking, and as a former like barista of five
<v Speaker 3>and a half years, it is correct, like they're actually
<v Speaker 3>giving you nice, knowledgeable things about coffee. And then the
<v Speaker 3>other thing I can think of is I think it's
<v Speaker 3>all I could think of is Ghost of Sushima and
<v Speaker 3>Rise of Ronan this year. I like games that you
<v Speaker 3>can like clean your blade after killing someone, and both
<v Speaker 3>games you can. Yeah. Yeah, I don't know if it's
<v Speaker 3>just like a a samurai game thing. There's probably other
<v Speaker 3>examples in non samurai games, but I like when you
<v Speaker 3>can clean your blade away, and I am the on
<v Speaker 3>the recent House of Dragon episode there was a guy
<v Speaker 3>who was like using a cloth to clean the blood
<v Speaker 3>off his blade, and I was like, that is so cool.
<v Speaker 3>That's pretty sick to like, I don't know, it's not
<v Speaker 3>that cool, but I like, it's not just satisfied.
<v Speaker 2>Did he say he was doing it wrong? So you
<v Speaker 2>have to do the like you like swing your sword
<v Speaker 2>and it's instantly clean.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I think. Yeah, in the medieval times, they hadn't
<v Speaker 3>figure out how to be like super cool yet, like
<v Speaker 3>the samurai, so they were just like, give me a cloth,
<v Speaker 3>let me wipe my blade.
<v Speaker 2>Sure, I was. I just remember too, I double may
<v Speaker 2>cry too. Terrible game, But the best thing about it
<v Speaker 2>was wall Running, because I think it was one of
<v Speaker 2>the because it was this was pre Prince of Persia.
<v Speaker 2>It was the same year, but I think it came
<v Speaker 2>out first, two thousand and three. But I remember I
<v Speaker 2>just wall ran everywhere because that was the first time
<v Speaker 2>I'd ever really seen that in the game, and I
<v Speaker 2>remember thinking like, this is so cool. I feel like
<v Speaker 2>I'm the matrix. Everything else in this game is a
<v Speaker 2>dumpster fire, but this is really cool.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah. I just thought of another one that is I
<v Speaker 3>don't even know if this works for this, but I
<v Speaker 3>like I s A sex Tricky is one of my
<v Speaker 3>all time favorite games. I played it so much on
<v Speaker 3>PS two when you ramp really high and you're in
<v Speaker 3>the air for a long time in that game and
<v Speaker 3>you're coming down into like a slope to continue the track.
<v Speaker 3>I used to love lining up my board so that
<v Speaker 3>I would perfectly land on the track where there was
<v Speaker 3>like no, like I don't know if this makes sense,
<v Speaker 3>where you just you're perfectly parallel with the slope and
<v Speaker 3>then you land like gracefully right on it instead of
<v Speaker 3>like your front hitting it first or your back. As
<v Speaker 3>a small child, I thought that was so cool and
<v Speaker 3>professional and awesome games for really.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's like, I mean, that's it's on my mind
<v Speaker 1>because of any championship, but like that's excite bike, Like
<v Speaker 1>that's the strategy. Yeah, yeah, is making sure you land,
<v Speaker 1>you know, at an angle on the ramp or flat
<v Speaker 1>against the road.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, that's funny. Kyle. Did you look up if dot
<v Speaker 2>mcrite two came up before Prince Pure? That's what I
<v Speaker 2>thought you were doing it.
<v Speaker 1>Did it did in fact predate Prince of Persia by
<v Speaker 1>that's quite a few months, don't Might Cry two came
<v Speaker 1>out in January of two thousand and three, and Prince
<v Speaker 1>of Persia came out in November of two thousand.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, there you go. Also, one last one I remembered
<v Speaker 2>was when you get the perfect start in Mario Kart,
<v Speaker 2>like when you hit the gas right before the start. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>which is really hard to do in some games. Some
<v Speaker 2>of the games is like pretty easy. The other ones,
<v Speaker 2>you're like, oh, they nerve this because people got too
<v Speaker 2>good at it, because I feel like I'm burning out constantly.
<v Speaker 2>But when you nail that, you again go almostly your
<v Speaker 2>SSX comparison Wes. You're like, I'm a pro racer. I
<v Speaker 2>just failed that, and everyone's like, how did you get
<v Speaker 2>so fast? Immediately you're like, I can't tell you.
<v Speaker 3>I hate when games. I hate when games don't have that,
<v Speaker 3>Like if it looks like it's like what are you doing?
<v Speaker 3>Come on, like this is the this is the standard.
<v Speaker 3>You need to have this.
<v Speaker 2>It feels like realistic games, Like I don't know, can
<v Speaker 2>you do that in real life? Is that like a
<v Speaker 2>real thing you can do? Like in real driving?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah?
<v Speaker 2>We still like can you trick your car out or
<v Speaker 2>you just do that like get a button like fast
<v Speaker 2>and furious. I don't know, alrighty. Next question comes from
<v Speaker 2>Excuse Me Jay or twenty four via Discord. They asked
<v Speaker 2>earlier this year, I'd say Hell Divers too was the
<v Speaker 2>game of winter. What is your game of the summer
<v Speaker 2>so far? If we want to narrow this down, I
<v Speaker 2>guess May is the start of summer, so I will
<v Speaker 2>say from May to now. I mean, I guess Shadow
<v Speaker 2>of the Earth Tree for me, Yeah, it's probably Shadow
<v Speaker 2>of the Arth Tree.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, Shadow of the ar Tree. I played like I
<v Speaker 3>was in elementary or junior high again. I would stay
<v Speaker 3>up super late. I had a pretty much any time
<v Speaker 3>I was playing. It could be like one in the morning.
<v Speaker 3>I had at least a couple of friends to like
<v Speaker 3>hop into a party with, and we were all very
<v Speaker 3>good about not spoiling each other, so it would just
<v Speaker 3>be you know, me and my homies and we're playing
<v Speaker 3>and someone's just.
<v Speaker 2>Going, oh, oh what the oh oh.
<v Speaker 3>This is so sick, and then you don't say what
<v Speaker 3>it is or what happened, and you're just like, oh,
<v Speaker 3>that's cool, I can't wait to get to whatever that is.
<v Speaker 3>And it was like a solid two weeks of that
<v Speaker 3>and I already miss it now that I'm done with.
<v Speaker 1>The You guys are like all on a call, playing
<v Speaker 1>your own games.
<v Speaker 2>And just yeah we were. We were a party acting
<v Speaker 2>without explaining you're all playing.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, yes, yeah, we all just get like hype, like
<v Speaker 3>in a boss fight or like you know, someone's getting mad,
<v Speaker 3>and but we none of us want to spoil anything
<v Speaker 3>we're seeing because we're all at different parts and we're
<v Speaker 3>trying to be nice to each other. So yeah, it's
<v Speaker 3>just like, oh, I just discovered something really cool. I'm
<v Speaker 3>gonna freak out. They're gonna be like, oh, oh my god,
<v Speaker 3>that's so cool. I wonder what it is, and then
<v Speaker 3>you don't find out. And basically just like me and
<v Speaker 3>uh three other grown men and we're just like screaming
<v Speaker 3>at our TVs and excitement and no, no real discussion.
<v Speaker 2>I was gonna say, since you since you can't elaborate
<v Speaker 2>on your reactions, is there been a time where someone
<v Speaker 2>was like endangered, like oh no, when you're like, ah,
<v Speaker 2>you must have fought that boss and you're like, no,
<v Speaker 2>my house is on fire.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, we have moments like whoever you usually somebody is
<v Speaker 3>in is in front of all of us like they've
<v Speaker 3>they're way ahead in the DLC, so they're the ones
<v Speaker 3>that have to be the most quiet. And then like,
<v Speaker 3>for example, when I was the one that was lagging behind,
<v Speaker 3>I could be like, okay, dancing lines, kicking my butt
<v Speaker 3>and it was fun. It's uh, it was awesome. It
<v Speaker 3>was like just two weeks of forgetting that I needed
<v Speaker 3>to wake up on time for things like staying up late.
<v Speaker 3>I mean even it out, just like logging in every
<v Speaker 3>day late. No, it's it was a good time. And
<v Speaker 3>I did the same thing for Elden Rings. So it
<v Speaker 3>was cool that er Tree recaptured the magic of hanging
<v Speaker 3>with friends online.
<v Speaker 2>The onest question if that's if the game to summer,
<v Speaker 2>Hell Divers is the game to winter, what's the game
<v Speaker 2>to spring. I noticed that Jay just skipped spring and
<v Speaker 2>went straight the summer spring. When Hell Divers come out,
<v Speaker 2>I was like, February is that?
<v Speaker 3>I guess it was February.
<v Speaker 1>I guess I have to look at what. Yeah, if
<v Speaker 1>the top of my head, I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>What a spring like like March and April pretty much? Yeah?
<v Speaker 2>Is it animal? Well, amal was cool. I like the Animal.
<v Speaker 3>It's probably everybody starting Final Fantasy seven Rebirth in the winter,
<v Speaker 3>realizing it's one hundred hours and then having to go
<v Speaker 3>into the spring playing.
<v Speaker 1>That, right they I like the lower lie in the
<v Speaker 1>Laser Eyes. That was my favorite recent game, wasn't that May?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah? Might have been Dragons Dogua two. That's probably my
<v Speaker 3>spring game into March I was that was a good
<v Speaker 3>fun time.
<v Speaker 2>Also, I think I believe Animal because all of the
<v Speaker 2>indie like the indie get in was May the Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>yeah that was in May. So well, what was March April?
<v Speaker 2>There's something that.
<v Speaker 3>I'm like another Crabs, Treasures, Indigo.
<v Speaker 2>Dragons Dogua two is March?
<v Speaker 3>I think Indica was May. Indico was May seventeenth.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, okay, South of snow Day. We're all playing that
<v Speaker 1>in March. Stellarla April.
<v Speaker 2>Sure, you know my personal spring game. Yeah, I'll say
<v Speaker 2>that for mine, Like, yeah, Stellar Blade. There we go,
<v Speaker 2>we did it. Now we got to wait for fall
<v Speaker 2>to see what it takes it there, all right, that's
<v Speaker 2>always the easiest one to figure out, the gamer all right.
<v Speaker 2>The last question goes from Cole Harper via Discord, who
<v Speaker 2>asked with the Olympics around the corner, if you had
<v Speaker 2>to pick one video game to be played as an
<v Speaker 2>Olympic event. What would it be?
<v Speaker 3>I thought long and hard about this and I landed
<v Speaker 3>on the minigames in Pokemon Stadium one and two. I
<v Speaker 3>think those test things like your memory, they test your
<v Speaker 3>dexterity with your fingers, they test your problem solving skills.
<v Speaker 3>I think it's a roundabout journey of testing a gamer census,
<v Speaker 3>and I think that's what's most important in the Gamer
<v Speaker 3>Olympics to the event boys, the.
<v Speaker 2>Gamer Olympics, you know, I it would be fun if
<v Speaker 2>a soul's game, like a from software game, because like,
<v Speaker 2>if you think about the Olympics, are like the the
<v Speaker 2>tagline may as well be get good because it's just
<v Speaker 2>a bunch of people. They had to get good all
<v Speaker 2>over the world at the thing that they're good at
<v Speaker 2>the specific sport. So what if you just took that
<v Speaker 2>spirit and just like you get the best from players
<v Speaker 2>from like each country and I don't know, give them
<v Speaker 2>a time limit to get through like Bloodborne or SoCoRo,
<v Speaker 2>and say like who's who is the who's the most
<v Speaker 2>good of the people that got good better than everyone else.
<v Speaker 3>You can take it up a notch and make it
<v Speaker 3>where they have to do it while using a DDR
<v Speaker 3>dance pad. Like some of those streamers that somehow beat
<v Speaker 3>those games.
<v Speaker 2>Sure they got to do it while pull vaulting or something.
<v Speaker 3>Something to get the heart rate up, get the muscles moving.
<v Speaker 2>There you go. So yeah, like Olympic levels Secero.
<v Speaker 1>Mine is obviously I had to google a bunch to
<v Speaker 1>figure out the name of this d I couldn't remember
<v Speaker 1>Shape Up for the Connect Oh yes, of course, which
<v Speaker 1>is like this weird exercise game that would like be
<v Speaker 1>doing like push ups and it would keep like dropping
<v Speaker 1>bricks on your back and stuff, and it was yeah,
<v Speaker 1>so that's my Some athletes totally kick assid shape Up
<v Speaker 1>for Xbox.
<v Speaker 2>I mean it probably would be great at it.
<v Speaker 1>I would Yeah, it would be like watching someone It's
<v Speaker 1>be like watching an I really amazing from software streamer.
<v Speaker 1>It's like you watch an athlete play shape Up and
<v Speaker 1>it would be like it would be mind blowing. Or yeah,
<v Speaker 1>the Nintendo Fitness game, Get watch some athletes Ring Fit. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>Ring Fit setting crazy high scores on ring Ship.
<v Speaker 2>A lot of doing this squeezing that ring. I would
<v Speaker 2>I would like to see that, just see. I would
<v Speaker 2>like an Olympic branded uh ring Fit ring and then
<v Speaker 2>maybe instead of metals, they give them like you got
<v Speaker 2>a gold one of these, like you had a gold ring. Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>They just put them around their neck and its just
<v Speaker 2>like hanging off their bodies. How many rings are in
<v Speaker 2>the Olympic ring logo? It's seven. That's oh, that's a
<v Speaker 2>good trivia question because it's like if you don't I
<v Speaker 2>think it's five, it's five. It's five, right.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, so you got to get five ring fits to
<v Speaker 1>play ring fit Olympics.
<v Speaker 3>That's actually that'll probably be pretty tough. Ring fit not
<v Speaker 3>easy to come by. I remember, I don't know if
<v Speaker 3>that was a COVID thing or just that they didn't
<v Speaker 3>make a lot of it was a COVID thing.
<v Speaker 2>So that's when everyone was like, the gyms are closed,
<v Speaker 2>this is the next best thing. I remember.
<v Speaker 3>They forgot about shape up clearly. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo was really on top of that in retrospect, like
<v Speaker 1>like in a scary way, like how come you guys
<v Speaker 1>had animal crossing.
<v Speaker 3>Ready to go and ring and ring fit?
<v Speaker 1>Like what were you guys doing over there that you
<v Speaker 1>knew that these were going to be perfect for the pandemic?
<v Speaker 2>What did you know? Did know? And it's I am
<v Speaker 2>excited for that Netflix documentary Get on it. Well that's
