Obviously, Um I was real cool with Mazy then mys was together for five years and that was my brother and Uh I had been around his mom this family a lot, and I have been practicing and studying Islam. Um. After a while me studying for about seven years, I had a chance to go sit down with the minister and uh, a lot of things. Like I said that the transport this year, with me bettering myself and me becoming the face of the biggest civil rights movement of in history, I gotta lead by example. And a lot of changes came in my life and the in and it led me to Islam and it was the bestest cision ever made. What what? What? What kind of lifestyle changes for people who have not pregned, stopped smoking, stop drinking, ain't been to a club since I took my shatter. And the only reason I did that because you know it's it's in a minute. Yeah, you know I've been chilling. I've been chilling, But you know it's it's just like this. Anytime you get some information, especially Islam, like smoking and drinking, all that's harom. That's a sin. If I know that, why do it. I'm never hypocriting nothing I do. You know what I'm saying, I'm still the same stack five. You know, I'm just I'm just bettering myself, and I'm doing it for me, not for nobody else. You like that discipline is just overall just better for you inside and out. Yeah, Because like I had I've been through some real ship in my life. You know what I'm saying, and where I'm at now, me and Matt getting deals that Hall of Fame players don't get that. The Hall of Fame players get that, faces of the NBA get So my way of seawan going that I appreciate everything that I'm blessed with right now, it's about bettering myself, you know what I'm saying. Like playing the NBA, I was paying child sport and I gotta shootouts with dealing with the lawyer fees and all that. I'm able to see all my money in Jordan, touch it. Now speaking about your blessings continuing to come, Um, I was blessed to be able to be a part of an event that you did here in Atlanta where you gave back and you provided like you provided meals, dinners, clothes, um fucking antibacterial equipment, masks, like toys, all kinds of stuff for over like three or four hundred families, And I just wanted to say, like that was really big because it was like it was freezing cold, the weather was crazy. It was a lot going on and it was last minute, but you said, like the show must go on. So as far as that's concerned, do you have any plans to like do I know you've done like a couple in other cities, but do you plan on like keeping that going like now that the quote unquote pandemic is over. Of course we've made a place to go to all fifty states and do it and we're seventeen. Then, Um, I think, what everything to happen with George Floyda. When I went to Minnesota for that first press conference, I didn't expect to inherit the voice for so many other people. And a part of being a voice for a lot of people is also taking care of our community. And that's a big part of it. Giving back. You know, you're the best thing you can give is your time. And um, when I go to these cities and I talk to these people, talk to these kids, they've never seen a celebrity or NBA player in that neighborhood. Every name life so me to be the first to be able to touch them to get them motivation. It does more for me and it actually does for them. So um, to who much is given, much is required. And that's that's where I met with it. What do you say the hard of the hardest part of changes? Um? I would say the hardest part is your family might not understand. You know, they they used to you be in a certain way. Are are they used to certain things going on and being able to have you accessible to certain things. But when you change for yourself, it's different. He tripping, he we weird and out, you know what I mean. But my mom is the only person I really cared about, and she understood, you know what I'm saying. She happy because I said, she knows how wild I used to be. Why I ain't have to be too involved and stuff with you know what I'm saying, with the stuff that he was doing, I just drove you know this stuff, like to get me a check. You know what I'm saying. Back then if I can drive them, put it out to the Houston to get five thousand, I'm gonna do this. I don't care what's in the car, you know what I'm saying. And uh, And that's how it was. But I went. I pulled up to the house. I knocked on the door. His or answered the door, and his nephew played on my basketball team. So soon as the door opened, blue and and and I guess whoever w whatever the other other cops was. They ran to the front door and they was like Jackson, what you're doing. What you're doing. I'm like, man, I'm here to see what's going on. I played basketball with his nephew, which was in the house, and I said, I'm here to check on him. I just see all the police. I don't know what's going on. So they let me in the house. They go back to the room, righting on the couch was not hard, grabbed it, put it in my drawers, walked out the door. As soon as I grabbed the car door. Here they come outside Jackson all right, instantly it's over, broke down. I'm saying, I'm just shaking. I don't even I can't turn around. And as I turned around, he handed me his card. We know, you know what John At tell him to call us. I'm like, bet took the card, put it in my drawer, pulled off with that and we met him and Joe to Houston. He gave me ten thousand dollars for that, you know what I'm saying. But it was the dumbest ship ever. It was a dumber sh it ever. But I know I've been through situations that no NBA, you know what I'm saying. But that's just the law. To him me, I've always had that. I was once I looked at the video and seeing him, and I just lost it. And uh, I honestly didn't know what to do, bro, you know what I'm saying. I've never been in a position like that. You know, I let my older brother was killed when I was sixteen, about five minutes away from it, but that was on some screen ship. So and my older brother was that dude. And I've always been that person. I always stood on that. So when I went down there, like I said, I didn't know what I was doing. I was leaving. I was letting my heart leave me and m me speaking uh me being honest and saying how I feel and I biting my tongue. They've never heard that from somebody that had some type of fame. They've never seen somebody with one of the biggest podcasts in the world, an NBA champion that's dealing with the same thing that's been going on forever, you know what I'm saying. So I inherited to be the face of it. And I was just I was just showing my real feelings. Man, and and and and it. It opened up to eighteen countries, all fifty states protesting at the same time, which has never been done. And um, I'm glad I did it, you know, I'm glad I did it. And it was worth it because we got justice finally, you know what I'm saying. So that's that was my next question. You do feel like complete full justice? No? Not no, a lot of some type of we got changed, but the world still hasn't changed. Sure, we got justice for the first time. The mother going to jail. He got the time. Now he ain't got his time yet. They been again his time, but he got he got. He's going to jail, though, you feel like the other cops should be. They're going to jail too, because that was the thing they had the lord. They couldn't give him with hit him with the high charge for murder because if they lowered his charge, and it was gonna be easy to get to get the other three locked up too. So that was the whole plan, and it worked, you know what I'm saying. So far, and and and that's really all I can do. I can't go put my hands on them, you know what I'm saying. That's really the only justice justice. We know, get our lick back. You know what I'm saying. That's if I can't get my lick back, then you gotta go to jail. You know what I'm saying. That's really the only thing. And we you know what I'm saying, coming from our community, we ain't too on up putting people in jail. But the white person, Yeah, I want to put you in Jeffie's I've been doing that to us since since we came here. So and that's just what it is. Why so why why? Why do you think this is just open conversation? Why do you think George Floyd's so many other African americ people have been killed by the police. We've seen it, right, But back to the actors shooter thing. Why does the actor shooter always make it peacefully to the car to the jail, Like, what's your opinion on that? Like an active shooter, Well, that's what I said, you know when that's actually is armed. Any active shooter that has shut up churches or grocers, pieces nothing, any time they do that. Anytime. See they come to get us and make us do the walkers shame for tickets and old child support. They send in the task for tour house, pulling us out of the house and baroness all on TV. None of these people got publicly arrested, none of them. They got them somewhere with no cameras and made sure he was in jail, maation, he was protected. But they don't. They don't do that to us. All we got to do the walk of shame. My whole family get embarrassed, our kids be outside getting pushed down, all that, that's what But but see the whole thing about it, that's the system a lot of people and it's real simple. But people don't understand this bank. When this Constitution was written, the people that were signing, they had slaves outside. So that ship wasn't written for us. That ship wasn't meant for us. And we got to understand that. That's why the whole constitution has to be rewritten for us to feel like we're equal. And they ain't willing to do that because they know they can't lie to us no more. They can't just tell us anything no more. It's it's it's a new day, you know what I'm saying. So if they ain't, if they ain't rewriting the constitution, then they just wasting our time. I would I would never vote for a system just like the the Constitution, all that was written for them. Our vote don't count. They use our vote to help them get ahead. Kamala Harris and Joe Biden. You know, somebody he don't have to pay in the playoffs. He caused me in the film room and he like, uh, Jack, look at this. He shows me tape of all the bad plays I made a year, none of my good plays. It is all the bad ship. Right, I'm saying, like, he's what are you going with this? Ship? Like I just had fifth in practice? Where are you going with this? One thing about Greg Popitch, the smartest coach you could ever meet. He knew what I was gonna say before he even asked me that question. And the reason how I knew that because Trace mcd it was already already on the plane flying in, so they had already made the move. So this was my way to hang myself. You know what I'm saying, Pop? I had, so you played the whole season and and the year before that, I brought them back the both two times I went to San Antonio, I made it to at least the Western Conference finals, and I had a big game last year. I've been in in in the previous year, so I'm thinking that it's gonna be He know, I showed up in big games. But by him doing that, it let me know that you really didn't. If I had just stood there, probably wouldn't probably wouldn't be here today, or be a paralyzed never walked again. But when the car the fact that I wasn't drunk or high, my my reaction made me turn sideways and jumped a little bit to where the hood hit my back right here, and my head hit the windshield like that, and I flew in the air, and from the momentum of the car, I land like this, boom boom boom, boom boom, all my teeth grown lips shadowed. I stared right up my drilling. But he gotta he gotta bust you to get out of the parking lot. At that time one of my teammates, it's dumping at him. Oh my bad. One of my teammates is dumping at him. So and I come out of it. So I grabbed mine. We chase him down. We're shooting at the car for about thirty something. Holes in the car don't hit nothing, but the car don't hit him at all. As I let out my last shot, my drilling pass out. Next thing you know, I'm in the backup police car. Teeth go on, lip shadow, blood everywhere. I'm unconscious. Markey's name is kicking, kicking, um police call man. He think cause you think you think I'm dying. You know what I'm saying, because it's blood is shooting on the map, and I'm just I'm out. And as you're kicking the window, I come out like like I just you know what's come out of And I'm like, bro, what's going on? You know what I'm saying? Fast forward? Fast forward? The police, Uh take our gun. We all had gun license. They took our guards and they let us go. I had to go to the hospital that night have plastic surgery on my lips for two hours with no anesthesia, m cutting my lips, taking rocks out of my lip for two hours.
