They played great game from great baseball, just clean baseball, great pitching, tremendous starting pitching, and an historical effort by our man Lozardo, who had a tough start to the game and then just wheeled it in and wheeled off twenty two straight outs. I mean Ronnie Mauricio pinch running the other night, he looks like he's running in quicksand Phillies capitalized. Ruben's favorite player, Jeff McNeil misplays a ball on Thursday night. Phillies capitalized, and there was another one. I can't but they just capitalized. That's what a good team does. When you leave an opening, you hit the hole and they played. They had a great series, Phillies.

But since that sweep, the Phillies have gone eleven and three and the Mets are four and ten.

But they I thought they looked heartless and anytime they got behind in this series, they looked like they were done. And then they blow four nothing lead on Thursday night. I mean, cats off to Lozardo for just shutting it down. That was amazing. That was amazing. He gives up four runs in the first inning, five hits and four runs in the first inning, and you're like, oh, we're gonna be here one in the morning. Right. It was a two hour and sixteen minute game. After that first inning.

And since the platoon started that rotation, I think it's like eighteen games he is hitting three thirteen, three eighty five on ops and a nine to two excuse me, three eighty five.

So and he had a couple of big hit, real big series against the Mets. So they're getting a lot out out of that whole four and four man rotation. I think the manager deserves some kudos for the way he's handled both the alignment of the talent of the players, but also the way he's handled the personalities they wanted, you know, the whole town wanted Kepler going boom. He kept that kid's head straight, and now they're getting a nice contribution from him. He's kept Nick Nick's head in it that when Nick plays, he contributes so.

Speaker 1: It's it's been a long long time. I have to say this, and and and again. You said you mentioned that, Jim, Kudos to the manager. You know how difficult it is to take guys who have played ten straight years as everyday players and then have them be in a rotation or be aune and I have to deal with that. That's a tough thing for players to do. To make that adjustment it, he did it in a very slow, methodical way. I think that all along he probably wanted to do something like this, but it had to take some time. It had to take, you know, the right timing. I think when September rolled around, he finally said, listen, we have to win games as many games as we possibly can. This is the best way we can win games. And he started to make that move difficult for guys to accept it. It took a while for Kepler to make the adjustment. Kepler played every single day. Now he's playing in a platoon, and he didn't handle it all that well. He didn't get in a rhythm. I and now he is used to and understanding what it takes for him to prepare. He talks about it openly. Castiano's hasn't been there. It's never been there. He's a been an everyday player. And it's got to be difficult for because this is a guy that expects to play every single day. He has a routine. This is what he does. It's like waking up in the morning and have about a coffee.

Speaker 1: And and for him to make that adjustment and to have been contributed, I got to give some love to Cassie and certainly some love to the Kepler, but the manager deserves something too.

Speaker 4: No question. And you mentioned better. He's produced on the field. He's also brought this intangible energy to the to the ball club, some spirit he fits in. Chemistry wise, he's got the you know, he's got the pink batting gloves look like the things my mother used to wear when she washed the dishes in the seventies. But I don't care how he does it. And you want, you can wear pink polka dots. He's just producing. And irony is he has a huge series. He's having this huge run with the Phillies, a huge series against the Mets, and he just did He was with the Mets last year and he just did not hit in the second half and that's why he didn't stay with the Mets. But he is making up for it. Man, I just look at a guy that is having an absolute blast and he's capitalizing on every at bat, every inning, every game, and the fans are just loving it.

Speaker 2: You just get this vibe right now that everybody's bought in, Rubin. You mentioned it at the top. They're talking about how the Mets are not aligned, that the Phillies are aligned. I was on talking with Mike Sealski and Rob Ellis on Saturday on WIP and they're asking me about Castianos, and you know, I'm out inside his head obviously. Do you think he could become a problem. We're worried about him potentially becoming a problem. It was something along those lines, and I said, don't even worry about it, because they've got, as you said, Ruben, they've got Kyle schwarbur In that clubhouse, JT Real, Muto, Trey Turner, all these guys, you know, any hypothetical player that might be unhappy or miserable because of playing time or whatever. I don't think it's going to affect that clubhouse because these guys are very focused. They have a lot of tremendous leadership in there. And you've slowly seen it, as you guys just said. Max Kepler turn around and now he's like, hey, I wasn't really cool about this earlier on, but now I've accepted it, and now hey, it's pretty fun. And now we're trying to win a World Series.

And I think that's got to be going through you know, traps, and through their brains and their hearts, because not very many people get to get to wear these suckers and and uh and I got to believe it. They're that at the point where they understand, like, we're still gonna make our money, and we made our money. Let's get a ring too, Why not?

Speaker 2: Like I said, open up a three game series this weekend against the Royals. Magic numbers five, so Phillies sweep the Royals or they win two out of three and the Mets get swept up. In New York, the Phillies will be popping Champagne on Sunday its Citizen Bank Park, which is really just absolutely wild. But Walker Bueler is going to make his Phillies debut on Friday, And Jim, you wrote about him for phl Y. What were your thoughts on talking to mister Buehler.

Speaker 4: He's always been an impressive guy, Vanderbilt guy, a real good head on his shoulders, very business like. You know, he was in the clubhouse last night. He's been in the organization now for a week. Up the road in Allentown or Lehigh Valley and paying attention to what they have. He's been on two Worlds World Series championship teams with the Dodgers. I mean, he's got ten postseason wins, a lot of experience there. But you know, coming back from too Tommy John Surgers, it's been slow. He's trying to put it together. And you know he's here as the sixth starter to give everybody a little bit bit of a blow, but to see if he can convince them that he has what it takes to be part of the postseason roster. And talking to him yesterday, he made it very clear that's what he's here for. He's here to make the postseason rosters. He had a contribute. He's had to put put another ring on his finger, but he acknowledged he hadn't didn't pitch we in Boston. He acknowledged has been slow recovery from Tommy John. But thirty one years old, I think it's a great guy to take a flyer on. Depending on what you see here in the next couple of weeks. I would even have him on my radar for next year, depending on what you get from him and what the contract looks like he said that he almost signed here in the off season in Philadelphia, they're having talks with him and it didn't get to the finish line. But it really worked out well with the Phillies. Favorite he gets twenty plus million dollars in Boston, doesn't bitch well. Now the Phillies get him for a pro rated get a look at him at the pro rated minimum. So that's a good deal. But what it really resonated with me is him talking about his feel just in a few days for this Phillies team. Now, granted he has joined the team during this electric home stand, when they're at a peak and they're playing some of their best ball the season. The emotions of high performances are high. But this quote, I just if you give me a second, I want to read this quote about what he sees in the Phillies. I thought it was really a standout quote. He says, the talent is immense, the culture is really good. I think we have a lot of guys pulling on the same string. In my experience, that is a big part of it. I think culture is a big part of it. I think we have a lot of guys on this team that are very comfortable with their career and their role in terms of whatever I need to do to help us win one, I will do it, which isn't always the case. Not every team is like that. I thought that was a strong quote and a nice kind of snapshot of where this team is. And I think it bodes well for October because I absolutely believe chemistry, culture, momentum, spirit, doing it all together, brotherhood, esprit de corps. I think that stuff matters a lot when you get into October, and Walker Burele sees it in this team.

Speaker 1: Yeah, I will tell you that I played on a bunch of teams that had a totally different types of personalities and the teams, but the teams that when you get on the on the field, the nineteen ninety three Phillies, the nineteen ninety five Cleveland Indians, the two thousand and eight Phillies, all of those teams were teams not all won the World Series, but there are also teams that believed in themselves and pulled on the same side of the rope and had a great culture on the field and in the clubhouse. And when you can do that, then you can do that consistently and you have the talent. Talent's always number one. You have a chance to do some special things. I think we saw that in twenty twenty two. With this team, I think you have a chance to see it again like the two thousand and eight team had, and that was the reason why they won, because they had the chemistry in the field and the love for each other to do what was necessary to win a World Series. And I think that this team has that too, and I'm hopeful that that at the end of the day, they get a chance to have a parade here in Philadelphia, not just for the fans, but for them because they worked so hard to get to this space.

Saturday, it's Taiwan Walker versus Ryan Bergert, and then Sunday is Aaron Nola versus Noah Cameron. Do we think they'll be popping champagne on Sunday? I don't know. It's a good I mean it's possible, certainly, but I guess now I'd have to adjust my expectations and predictions to LA sometime at Dodgers Stadium.
