We'll be talking more about his show goes on now you We're gonna talk a little bit later about the Masters. But for people who don't know, we had mentioned on our podcast yesterday interrupted that that Drew is required to name his baby the first name of whoever wins the mask. 00:04:14 Speaker 3: Yes. 00:04:14 Speaker 2: Required. 00:04:15 Speaker 4: As then I told Abby that's what I want to do, and I'm sure she's fine with it. 00:04:18 Speaker 2: A girl yes, at this very moment, the leader is Jose Marie Ohathabo, which is the one I wanted from the beginning. So Jose Maria, I think you could even drop Jose Yeah, Maria Franklin. I like Jose Maria. I am rooting for his Scott once he is in his sixties, he's got to be nineties. 00:04:40 Speaker 4: I joked for a month that he's going to be the winner, and I'm gonna have to name her Jose Maria. And to see that he's leading this morning makes me happier than anything. 00:04:47 Speaker 2: Jose Maria Franklin next Scotty, know Rory, I kind of like it. Jose Maria. 00:04:55 Speaker 6: Uh. 00:04:55 Speaker 2: And who's in second? 00:04:56 Speaker 4: I have to pull that up. 00:04:57 Speaker 2: Hopefully you see Wu or a Deci or Seawou Franklin would be another really good one. 00:05:03 Speaker 4: So we'll be Sam Burns, Sam, that's no, no, Samantha, Yeah, to normal. 00:05:10 Speaker 2: I think Sam would be ox Shay Okshay. Well, well, we will will be keeping up with the leader board to see. So this is gonna be an ask anything Thursday. We've got I've got topics, but like none of them are except for the first one, really all that extensive. So it's portal season. It's also off season. It's a good chance to ask anything. Eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Phone lines are open. I can see him. Rick's ready to answer. You got that trigger finger ready? 00:05:39 Speaker 7: Rick? 00:05:40 Speaker 2: You bet you all right? So there you go. I love Rick's pause but excitement eight five nine twenty two eighty seven. But before we do that, I guess the big news is Colin chandler Uh is in the portal. He is going not gonna play for Kentucky next year. Early reports seemed to suggest he went into the portal with a do not contact me, which I like that I'm into portal, believe me alone. I'm on airplane mode. So that means that he knows where he's going, and all indications seem to be that it is to Byu, his home place, even though he grew up at utah F. I was told, and I'm not the only person other people have said this that the assumption had been that he would return. Amongst UK people, I think UK staff actually was building a roster with the idea he would be back. I was told ten days ago that they thought they had to deal with him, but apparently last year BYU came in and said we will give you an increase of money to come here, and the increase was not significant enough that Colin did that. Colin was like, well, I think I'll just stay here. But this year, I think this is one of those things where you just throw it. He threw out a wild number and then they said yes, and then he went back to and UK was like, we just we can't do that. It would have been an amount of money. I am told that would have been the second most they have paid for a player. I can do the math to kind of think of what that is, because I think I know what the highest paid player made. But you know, I really wanted him to be here. I think he's really good. I think he has a lot of value. I like Colin, but I don't think he has enough value to be the second highest player, which, depending on who Kentucky gets, might have made him the highest paid player this year. There are only a couple guys. I think Kentucky's looking at that they would pay more than they paid their top guy last year. And if that's so, you can't pay Colin that amount. So even though I wish he was here, and I think he'll be really good. Hate I get it, what about you? 00:07:54 Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I obviously wanted to Colin to stay. Last night, we turned out the lights on the fan club, refunded everybody's membership whos were closed. I wanted in back bad. I know he's not perfect. Sure he can be a better dribbler, could create a shots better. But I think about all the winning plays he made late in games. I mean, the three against Tennessee stands out, but there were several others, and then his three point shooting will be hard to replace. So I think he's gonna be They're gonna miss him a lot, and he would be hard finds. He might have filled that spot on the portal. However, I like that Pope isn't budging and overpaying for guys. 00:08:23 Speaker 2: Now. 00:08:23 Speaker 4: I think I like Pope standing in his ground and saying, look, I would love to have you, but I'm not paying that. 00:08:29 Speaker 2: I think last year what would happen is these guys would say this and they would just do it. And I think this year they're like, all right, you're worth this. If they'll give you that, then okay, I guess, I mean, I would guess this is just there are reports out there. I can't confirm this is the number. All I can confirm is second most money, but there are reports out there. I think Jack Pilgrim said he has for three point two. I would say, just as a guess UK was interested in paying him. It's a gasp. I'm just I think an educated guess one point seven to one point eight maybe two. I mean, you can't just pay over a million dollars extra or it'll hurt you with the other people. You gotta go get so I get it right. 00:09:14 Speaker 3: I'm like everybody's kind of shocked, little surprised because every time we talked about who was coming back, the first name we always always said was Colin Chandler. But they need to spend their money and go get dudes. You no disrespect to Colin Channel. They need to go get guys. 00:09:27 Speaker 2: You know that he's a dude. 00:09:29 Speaker 3: I don't think he can be the dude you're looking for if you're trying to improve yourself next year. 00:09:32 Speaker 2: I don't think he can be your best player. 00:09:34 Speaker 3: Yeah. 00:09:35 Speaker 2: Can he be your second or third best player on a really good team. 00:09:39 Speaker 3: Yes he can, I believe, But I believe he would have been. But I think they still got to go out and get, like I said, all due respect, a couple guys better than him, and that's what they need that money for. 00:09:48 Speaker 4: I think you're probably right now, this will be fine if Pope goes and just get someone that can fill that spot. 00:09:52 Speaker 2: Now on the court, I mean, he's very good. He's not gonna be easy to replace. You might find some worse, but he is replaceable. But I'm bumming because you're right. He was very clutch. I mean he made a bunch of big shots like big shot. 00:10:08 Speaker 4: I mean there were timely steels late in games. It led to Alway getting game winners. I mean, I know it was one off thing, but that passed a Moreno is insane. I mean, you can't gonna expect him to do that all the time, but I mean he made a lot of memorable plays that helped Kentucky win some tough games. And I think that'll hurt. And Pope talked a lot about retention after the season, and he's specifically named Yellovich, Moreno and Chandler, and two of the three are gone. So in Pope's mind a month ago, I think he thought he'd have those guys back. But when that number gets put on the table. I can understand why Pope says, look, man, I can't do that. 00:10:38 Speaker 2: So when those guys leave, the question is going to be what what are they replaced by? I mean, ultimately, I don't think you can judge in the Portal era. I don't think you can judge losing guys until you see who replaces. If you're replacing with somebody equally as good or better, then what difference does it make? But if you're replacing with somebody worse than it mattered, So really we won't know for a while, right, and then we'll find out. At that point b. 00:11:03 Speaker 3: Yu obviously went out and wanted Waned to get content. 00:11:06 Speaker 2: Well, they lost their whole team. Yes, So this is just this is just me just guessing. I think by you probably offered Chandler about what Kentucky did, but tried to sell come home and then they lost their whole team. Yeah. And when they lost their whole team, they went, well, we got to have a. 00:11:21 Speaker 3: Team extra manine to spend too. 00:11:23 Speaker 2: So then they came and then upped up the ante quite a bit. 00:11:27 Speaker 4: Yeah, right, and entering the Portal yesterday for them, he'll be one of the most expensive guards, but they had like three other people. Yeah, and then the bonds is leaving. You know, that was a big part of the budget. Also part of this is when you overpay everybody last year and they come back to the table this year and you're telling they're gonna make less, you can't expect them to take that. I mean that's exactly like if I if I'm mowing your yard for one hundred dollars a week and then I show up the next week, You're like, I'm gonna pay you fifty I'm probably not gonna mow your yard. 00:11:51 Speaker 2: I mean it's I'm not paying a dollars. 00:11:53 Speaker 4: You got a big yard, though, But I mean you can they paid them so well last year that those guys have an expectation that they would get that or more in Kentucky. 00:11:59 Speaker 2: Can't then don't want that level of yard. 00:12:01 Speaker 4: You got a big yard. I have a little push mowhere. It would take me a while. Call it seventy five and access to. 00:12:06 Speaker 2: The pool THEO okay, I'm in Maybe that. 00:12:10 Speaker 4: Was about analogy, but I'm saying over paying all these guys. 00:12:13 Speaker 2: Didn't want to give calling access to. 00:12:14 Speaker 4: The pool, exactly paying them, And this goes for everybody on the team last year. You paid them so much you're having to tell them to kind of take a pay cut to come back. 00:12:22 Speaker 2: One thing we know is that Derek Johnson was wrong on Pope's ability to relate just to Colin. 00:12:27 Speaker 3: Yeah, so what do you say those people that are saying that this just goes to prove Pope cannot relate to anybody in the locker room, especially the one guy. 00:12:35 Speaker 2: That they had anything to do with relating. 00:12:38 Speaker 3: It was all just money. 00:12:39 Speaker 2: First of all, if Pope couldn't relate to anyone in the locker room, then no one would have come back. Yeah, two guys came back, right, So this is the modern college basketball. Now. Do I think some coaches can get people to stay? Ah, maybe easier than others. Yeah, maybe that wasn't Pope last year, But ultimately I'm confident that when it comes to Colin, it was it was a money thing. Just think about it like this. Let's say that you live in Minneapolis and you worked when you were in TV Form Minneapolis TV station that you really like, all right, and you had developed coworkers you like and that you love Minneapolis, right, and they're paying you eighty thousand. 00:13:28 Speaker 4: Dollars a year, got an apartment with a nice kitchen. 00:13:30 Speaker 2: Then in comes Wlax. In comes Wlax and says, we'll give you eighty thousand come back to Lexi and you'll go, Yeah, but I've kind of built a life here in Minneapolis, right, Yeah, like my coworkers, like my job. I don't think I'm gonna do it. And then the next day they go and come once you come home and it's one hundred and fifty thousand. 00:13:54 Speaker 3: Dollars, sign me up. You're going, I'm going that's enough. Yep, that's enough. 00:13:59 Speaker 2: And so I think that's kind of what this, what this was. 00:14:02 Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't blame him at all one bit for wanting to go home, especially taking that kind of money that. 00:14:07 Speaker 2: We can go home and get more money. 00:14:10 Speaker 4: Yes, you do it, probably absolutely. And like I said, anyone that think you know Pope lost this, I'm on Pope's side. If it's truly Chandler just had a price they can't match because last year got a little carried away with the money. 00:14:22 Speaker 2: I'm glad we're working with Gular By the way, for taking money. One of the things I see a lot is people go, you know, you're being selfish or you just out for the money, y'all. Everybody would do the same thing. 00:14:32 Speaker 3: Yes they would. 00:14:33 Speaker 2: I mean they would, especially when you're like at an age where you haven't made a lot. Maybe when you've made a lot of money, you don't care as much about things. But like there's no certainty. Chandler's a pro, No, right, there's no. He's also older. You have to remember he's he is fifth year senior age. 00:14:51 Speaker 4: And he talks about starting a family's he's just more mature than a college a wife and bills. 00:14:59 Speaker 2: And yeah, so you know, I mean, sometimes you gotta make it while you can. So I don't blame him for doing it doing it either, I don't really blame any of these guys for doing it. Like, get one chance in life, you gotta you do have to look out for yourself. If you're these kids eight five, nine, twenty two eighty seven, ask anything. Thursday. We will take your calls, talk your questions. Get you ready. It's KSR Bowling League. 00:15:28 Speaker 3: Is that your sound effect for a strike? 00:15:29 Speaker 2: Yes, turkey, We'll be right back. Yeah, welcome back, Take you sports radio. KSR Bowling League. You get four bowlers on a team. You also can have four subs, so if everybody can't come every week vacation, et cetera, you can get subs, but your team will go every week. There's the handicap lead, which means that your actual score based on a two thirty minus your average times ninety percent. I didn't know there'd be math and just love math. Yeah I'm out. Yeah, I don't know what that means, but they'll just tell you if you win or not. Oh, it does it for you. 00:16:03 Speaker 4: You don't have to sit there and do the math yourself. But us on the radio show. 00:16:06 Speaker 3: The Hard People. You guys know this been in every league from the first, from day one. They keep coming back for this one. 00:16:12 Speaker 2: I better see him back at this one. Yes, KSR Bowling dot com. Uh get going right? So somebody wrote this is a good question, Matt. What do you guys think think about the four teams in the final four, Arizona, Michigan, You cant Illinois. Does Colin Chandler start for any of them? Wow? Does not start for Michigan. Probably doesn't start for Illinois or excuse me, for Arizona. I don't think he starts for Illinois. Might start for Illinois, but might not, you. 00:16:47 Speaker 3: Can him and Mullens kind of a kind. 00:16:49 Speaker 2: Of probably not. That's an interesting way to look at it. 00:16:52 Speaker 6: It is. 00:16:52 Speaker 2: You know, that's the first time I thought of it like that. This year's Colin Chandler probably does not start for any of the final four teams. Now you look at the elite eight teams. He probably would start for Iowa, probably would have started. I don't know if he started. He probably would have started or played for Tennessee. 00:17:16 Speaker 3: He won us that Tennessee game when he started guarding Nate Amen. 00:17:19 Speaker 2: But no, I mean that's a fair point. Four teams made the final four. We want to be in the final four. Does Colin Chandler start for any of those teams this year? Probably not. Now would he have started next year? I don't know, But like you got to think, okay, the four teams that replace them, would he start for them? 00:17:34 Speaker 4: I do think he's due for a big leap next year, Like well we thought that this year. Well, I think he made a big leap. I think he's gonna tell that's true. 00:17:41 Speaker 2: He did. I think there's a lot to. 00:17:42 Speaker 4: Being away for two years and getting your footing back. That's why his freshman year was kind of started slow and he turned on right steak. 00:17:49 Speaker 2: If he averages seventeen a game and he's second team All Big twelve next year, that'll stink. It will. 00:17:55 Speaker 4: But the hope is Pope goes out and we have something we love and we're enjoying. 00:17:59 Speaker 2: Did you also did you you rhyme that on purpose? Hope? 00:18:02 Speaker 4: The hope is Pope, Yeah, I have hoping, Pope. 00:18:05 Speaker 2: We do need some boom. Let's go get some booms. We need some boom a boom. There's a Usually big booms come when I'm distracted. I signed for my house at one and I'm meeting people all afternoon. Normally good news comes when I'm not close to my phone. One to five o'clock, I'm not going to be there. That's the time, UK, you want to put one to me one to five. 00:18:31 Speaker 4: We've been zooming. Now let's start booming. Let's start booming from zooming booming. 00:18:35 Speaker 2: All right, free Bird, go for it. 00:18:39 Speaker 7: Hey, guys, was just sitting hitting some time off watching Andy Griffith questions for it. 00:18:43 Speaker 2: Of course, that's that's how you know. Are you retired? Free bird? 00:18:48 Speaker 7: Now I'm taking some time off from a major surgery. 00:18:51 Speaker 2: Okay, Well, good. Nothing better than resting with Indian Barney go ahead, Oh. 00:18:56 Speaker 7: Yes, out of the final fourteens you just mentioned, if we're playing them at their prime, who beat us by thirty? Who beats us by fifteen? Keep it short and sweet. 00:19:08 Speaker 2: Michigan, Well, okay, are we playing our best? Is it their best versus our best? The best? 00:19:15 Speaker 7: Our best? 00:19:16 Speaker 2: Michigan destroys US twenty at least Arizona fifteen, fifteen to twenty. Uh you can. I think we could be competitive with but probably lose eight to ten. Illinois. I think we could beat Illinois, but they also could destroy For Illinois, it's all whether or not they're hitting threes. So if it's their best versus our best, they beat us by ten. But there are many more worlds. We could win games against Illinois because they can go cold sometimes drew and not be very good. 00:19:48 Speaker 4: Yeah, they could go cold. They have a lot of size that would hurt Kentucky. 00:19:51 Speaker 2: But no, I mean we're you're distinct underdogs against all of those teams. 00:19:55 Speaker 7: If that's your point, well, distinct is a would work because you know, we got to get something. I don't know what's worse right now, When we were on the cover of Sports Illustration. 00:20:07 Speaker 2: Yeah, I appreciate the call. I think that's a little dramatic. It was worse when we were on the death penalty. Couldn't even watch the games Michigan and Arizona, where the two were the only two teams in the tournament. I thought, there's not a scenario we can beat them. I think anybody else in a given game you could have beat them, but you also could have gotten run off the floor. I don't think there's a way we beat Michigan or Arizona with the way. 00:20:30 Speaker 4: That in the way Michigan and Yukon played each other in that championship where they were just getting away with fouls and playing so physical. I mean that was a fight. We wouldn't have stood a chance. 00:20:37 Speaker 2: So Yukon's better than us. But Yukon lost to like Creighton and Marquette, like they could have been beaten. 00:20:43 Speaker 4: Oh yeah, they have some bad but that's physicality. 00:20:46 Speaker 2: We wouldn't have been able to stand within that game. Jamal, go ahead, fake Jamal, go ahead. 00:20:53 Speaker 8: Sir, gentlemen, how are you doing? 00:20:56 Speaker 2: I'm good? What's going on? Is this fake jam I've heard? 00:21:02 Speaker 7: Yeah, this is fake Jamil from. 00:21:04 Speaker 2: Like twenty years ago. Fake Jamel. 00:21:08 Speaker 8: From like making you Mad about Things? 00:21:10 Speaker 2: I blog voice from the past. 00:21:15 Speaker 4: Hello, old friend, how are you stranger? 00:21:18 Speaker 7: Like? 00:21:18 Speaker 2: That's from your long time ago KSR website. What's going on? 00:21:24 Speaker 8: Not much, guys, I was. I've been engrossed in the technical field and I have been experimenting with AI. And I know now, especially with Colin Chandler leaving the team, I'm thinking that UK is going to need some more analytics help. 00:21:44 Speaker 9: Now. 00:21:44 Speaker 8: I know they have that one thing, what was it called blueprint? Y'all were talking about that yesterday. Yes, So I have developed another tool that I am calling chat c b G. 00:22:00 Speaker 2: What does that sand for? 00:22:03 Speaker 8: Well, let me let me show your results. What I've done is I've taken taken forty. 00:22:08 Speaker 2: Seconds, Jamil. 00:22:09 Speaker 9: You gotta make it quick, all right, I've got I've taken a former coach ingrated his all his knowledge into an AI database, large language model, and now I'm going to ask him what his. 00:22:22 Speaker 8: Assessment of the team was from last year. Hang on second at two. 00:22:29 Speaker 2: And it says. 00:22:31 Speaker 8: Chad CGB says, uh, they just weren't tough enough. 00:22:39 Speaker 2: Oh, Billy Gilaspie coach, Billy Gilaspi it took me a second, but it took what they weren't tough enough, Fake Jaml. It is nice to hear your voice again. I hope you're doing well, doing great. 00:22:51 Speaker 8: I'm so glad that you guys are are still kicking it and I'm really proud of y'all's success. 00:22:57 Speaker 2: Thank you, Jamil, appreciate it. That's what passed. That's wow, that's a fifteen years ago blogger, like two thousand and nine, No kidding, We'll take a break. Very back to KSR. He was the gliss welcome back, take E Sports Radio. You know you gotta go, like Ryan, you didn't even know who fake Jamil was, right. 00:23:15 Speaker 3: I had never heard of him, So he definitely before my time in twenty eleven, cause I didn't know who this guy was. 00:23:20 Speaker 2: Yeah, that was way back. It's way back, way way way see tournament. We were sort of going through who are all the people that have ever written for KSR, and like we couldn't come up with all names. We did mention him. He grew up for a long time. 00:23:33 Speaker 3: Did he really for the website? 00:23:34 Speaker 2: Yeah, he was kind of. He was kind of like the writer for the nerds. 00:23:38 Speaker 3: It was fake Jamel Martinez he. 00:23:41 Speaker 2: Did was and he would make people really mad, but some people really liked him. He had like a very cult following. It was just it was a different time in the internet. You know, he was even before me. Was he before you? I mean we crossed over a lot. I worked with him a lot, but he started before me. So you know, I was the first writer, and my friends to hear who the first person that wasn't me that I added, were you before TJ? 00:24:06 Speaker 7: Uh? 00:24:06 Speaker 4: No, TJ was before me? 00:24:07 Speaker 2: So my guess maybe it was TJ. Yeah. TJ was probably the first one. And then his blogger content, No bt I think he's always forget BTI it was he was the because he was working on the radio show that rate. So yeah, wow, that was a blast from the past. If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, it is ask anything, uh Thursday. So let's just go to Joe. Go ahead, Joe, Hey. 00:24:32 Speaker 10: Matt Uh. I had a quick thing hit my head the second I saw Colin entered the portal, and that was the ted Dboffi theme song and that iconic laughter that he used to have. Yes, yeah, and uh, I mean I hate it. I was, you know, on the Bandwagon early with Drew. 00:24:57 Speaker 2: Here's my question. 00:24:58 Speaker 10: I'm fearful that, yeah, Pope's doing the right thing, that you know, we're not overpaying for him, because as much as I'd love to keep him, I think he can be replaced. But are we doing the exact same thing with Tyron Stokes? Are we gonna overpay for a guy that's just not gonna fit even though he. 00:25:15 Speaker 2: Well, I mean that's a great it's a great question. I mean, I appreciate the call. If we get Tyron Stokes, I think everyone's gonna be really happy. Number one ranked recruit when we haven't had the number one player in America since scalcal Is scal the I mean, how many times did we get the number one guy in America? John Wall was the number one guy in America? Anthony Davis was, Carl was he thought Libel four was. 00:25:42 Speaker 4: And Anthony Davis was number two on one of the sites too. 00:25:45 Speaker 2: He wasn't even consistent, that's right, the guy that went to well, I mean he but yeah, he was still Yeah. I mean, Avery Bradley was ahead of John Wall and one. I think you can pretty regularly though, say that Wall was one, Davis was one, and then Scal. Those are the three we've had, so we haven't had one since Scal. So if you get that kid, there is a sense of like Kentucky's back in this, But then there's also a sense you've put a lot of money in him. I mean, he'll end up being I think if Tyron Stokes is going to end up being the one of the top three Innisle deals of all time. Right now, it's probably aj debonsa Yaxel, and then Stokes will be right there. I don't know what the order will be. So if you get him, you're acknowledging that that you have given that amount of money, which is going to be a huge part of your cap. 00:26:36 Speaker 3: Oh yeah, but where we are at this point in our program, in Pope's career, he needs that. 00:26:40 Speaker 2: Is it worth it? Well, that's my question. So is Tyron Stokes worth three Colin Chandlers or let's just say, under his current price, two Collin Chandlers would have Would you rather have two Collin Chandlers or one Tyron Stokes Stokes? 00:27:05 Speaker 4: You can get other changes. 00:27:06 Speaker 2: Let me put a different way, but you rather have a Colin Chandler, a Diabate and a Yellovich or Tyron Stokes. 00:27:15 Speaker 3: I just think for the perception of the program, he's got to get that number one stud high profile guy to say, hey, we still is Kentucky, you know. 00:27:22 Speaker 2: Because I think if you get if you get Tyron Stokes, you will pay for him what you paid for Chandler, Yellovich, Diabate combined last year. 00:27:34 Speaker 4: With Stokes, I'm picturing him walking across the stage. Is the number one pick with the Kentucky logo everywhere, and I think Mark Pope needs that to get a little swag back around Kentucky and proving he can have pros. 00:27:45 Speaker 2: Do it even better. Because this is what it is. Okay, Okay, this is what it is. Because I'm trying to think, because you've got to have two other people in your roster. So I'm gonna use the money from last year versus what I think Stokes would cost. An ask which one would you rather have? Okay, would you rather have a Stokes, a Yellovich, and a Noah or would you rather have Aberdeen, Diabate, Chandler. So you get Stokes, Noah, Yellovich, Aberdeen, Diabate, Chandler. 00:28:19 Speaker 4: I'm going Stokes for everything that comes with me. I mean, we want to be on the commercials again. We want to be cool again. Okay, Stokes, even if he doesn't really gel well with Pope and maybe you don't go to the final for whatever, maybe it doesn't work out, there's still a lair that he brings those other guys. 00:28:34 Speaker 2: People to also realize Stokes may costs, for instance, away an Aberdeen cost together this point being real like that, that may be. That may be what it is. 00:28:48 Speaker 4: They were just paying to be cool again with Stokes and he's very We need to win. We need to win too, but I mean you can win with him. I'm not running off as a winner. I agree, but we need to be cool again. He's gonna be that prize. 00:28:58 Speaker 2: He will join the Deboza Debosa and gaxl Is the most expensive players in God. Now, there might be some kin in the portal this year that joins that amount. We'll see. 00:29:08 Speaker 5: You got the money, you gotta go, you gotta do it, You do it, you do Britt, go ahead, Brett. 00:29:14 Speaker 6: Hey Matt, Yes, I uh, I was seeing on Twitter yesterday about Aberdeen and him entering the portal. I hear that where I was reading that he has. 00:29:30 Speaker 11: To enter the portal in order to put in for. 00:29:32 Speaker 6: That waiver, and there's a possibility that he come back any any truth to that. 00:29:36 Speaker 2: No, I don't think that's true. I don't. I don't think he would have to enter the portal to ask for a waiver, do you. 00:29:42 Speaker 4: I think it's backward. If his waiver gets granted, he would need to have already been in the portal for teams to be talking to him. 00:29:48 Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's right. So, yeah, so he would need to be in the portal to even get to talk to him, though he didn't want. 00:29:55 Speaker 4: To get granted a month from now and he's not. 00:29:57 Speaker 2: In the Yeah, in theory, I guess he could come back, but I have not heard that that would happen, although I would welcome it. But but that's in theory. Though. I think for him to even be able to play college basketball next year, he had to uh, he had to do the labor and in the portal he. 00:30:14 Speaker 6: Had both got you, got you, appreciate you. 00:30:19 Speaker 2: Let's go to Bobby. Go ahead, Bobby. 00:30:22 Speaker 12: Good morning, gentlemen. A little off top, a little off topic here, but you guys's high school football coverage is awesome. Huge fan, A good friend of mine before all the conference tournaments started. Passed away. Uh. He was the first running back to score a touchdown for Perry County Central High School. His name was Ricky Baby Junior and he was a Mountain legend. 00:30:48 Speaker 7: Thanks for the call. 00:30:49 Speaker 12: I appreciate you, guys. 00:30:50 Speaker 2: Well, thank you God bless Ricky Baby Junior. And if we're going to talk about high school football legends, we also should should note Ryan Lemon that appreciate the call. Thanks for letting me. 00:31:01 Speaker 3: I'm going to help you there. 00:31:02 Speaker 2: I know who it was. Larry French passed away, give his resume last coach Middlesbrough. 00:31:08 Speaker 3: Yeah, we went down there with Max and Max to his team. When Larry French was a coach down there, he kind of made the name for himself and South Central Kentucky won a couple of state titles. He was a Boyle County just a great guy to work with. I mean, the sad thing is he just retired, like he retired after this past season, and I said a couple months later, So rest in peace, Lincoln County, I think maybe, but definitely Boyle County for a couple of years won the state title. Middlesbrough. I forget where he went after middles Broy He went somewhere after that. 00:31:36 Speaker 2: Yeah, well, God bless his family. Yeah, and the Johnson Central Baty player that they just said, new story. He said he went. He was at Mercer County, Mead County, Lincoln and Southwestern also in addition to the schools already named. 00:31:49 Speaker 3: That's awesome, great man, Well he was tightening the field for sure. 00:31:53 Speaker 2: Good news for folks in Wisconsin, Cornbread's award winning celtsis are now available Woodman's locations across the state. Did you enjoy doing the It's the News podcast? I did. 00:32:46 Speaker 4: We you know, it started very serious with some news going on in the world, but it ended with a lot of laughter. 00:32:50 Speaker 2: Yeah. It's very few shows where you can start by breaking down the war in Iran but then end up with some of the things. Drew said it the end of the podcast. I'll just let them want to spoil them. But not a lot of shows you'll see that can make that run, that can kind of hit all of those notes in one thing. So as me, Drew and Billy. It's on the Interrupted by Matt Jones Feed and also aired a night on WHS highly recommend. You know, sometimes you walk out of these and you go, okay, well that was all right. This was one who walked out and I was like, that's really good, and I enjoyed it even We even have Mario's attention nice and we do that when I do Interrupted. If Mario pays attention, then I know it's pretty good because Mario kind of glazes over serious topics and he was into this one. 00:33:32 Speaker 4: I take a lot of pride in making you and the guys laugh and Billy hitting the bell. 00:33:36 Speaker 2: Yesterday, Billy hit the bell twice. He got two bells. 00:33:39 Speaker 4: I've never had that happen before. 00:33:41 Speaker 2: Won some kind of prize. Memphis has announced they are going to put a FedEx jersey patch FedEx patch on their football and basketball jersey. They become like the third college to agree to do that. I looked at their their patch. It's pretty prominent, which of course leads the question of what are you gonna do? Inevitably, when Kentucky sells a patch on their jersey, and it would not just be a patch on their jersey, would probably be the case that every time you bought a UK shirt it would say you know whatever on it Cole was. 00:34:14 Speaker 3: If it was licensed UK licensed UK apparel would have to have that happen. 00:34:18 Speaker 2: We don't have to. I'm just saying, though I could see a world where that happens. You'll probably start with it being on the jersey. So what are you gonna do? Are you gonna be upset if the first time we come out in a football or basketball jersey it says Clark's bumba job or Morgan and Morgan, that'd be by the way, that would be my leader in the clubhouse. That's true. I think Morgan and Morgan if we were, if you were to sit there and go, what are the betting nods on the first patch that ends up on a jersey? Yeah, that's a good question. What businesses do you think are our lead? I'm gonna go, what are the three most likely businesses? Morgan and Morgan, friends of coal, Those are your first two. A lot of the third be A lot of their partners are local. I don't know if a low I think you need a national brand. It cost a lot of money to do that. But both of those would have a lot of money. 00:35:10 Speaker 4: So I'm thinking big. 00:35:10 Speaker 3: Big Central Banks does a lot. 00:35:12 Speaker 2: Do you think that's such a makes enough? They lot of It's a national like FedEx would want to be Memphis because FedEx is a worldwide brand. 00:35:23 Speaker 4: Man Morgan Morgan is a great pick. 00:35:25 Speaker 2: I don't think UPS could do it because it's in Louisville and UFL fans would get mad. 00:35:30 Speaker 3: UPS will do it for Louisville. 00:35:32 Speaker 2: Possibly public storage Louisville would be I think Louisville would be. 00:35:38 Speaker 4: Or Planet Fitness. They love some Planet Fitness. 00:35:40 Speaker 2: Over the plate. Well, Yeah, the guys started playing fitness. 00:35:42 Speaker 3: Is the cartoon drawing of US and ks R. 00:35:46 Speaker 2: They don't have that money. 00:35:48 Speaker 4: I think once we get the public storage lady in storage, we just got to recruit just say storage, public Storage, Kentucky Public. 00:35:55 Speaker 2: I think the two leaders in the club house are friends of Coal and UH and Morgan and Morgan. I think if you had to make a bet, you bet on Morgan. I mean they're everywhere. You know. 00:36:05 Speaker 4: When people I've been pushing back a little when people say, but the name on the front of the jersey I've been saying lately is about to have it? Patchionates to it as a couple of so remember that when we're talking about the Sacred Class. 00:36:16 Speaker 2: I don't think it'll be this year, but it's coming. It's definitely, it's definitely coming. Kevin, go ahead, Kevin, Yeah. 00:36:24 Speaker 13: I just wanted to make a couple of comments here. What do you think these uh, I guess you know, when they evaluate a player's worse do you think they take into account the jump that they're going to make, Because of course we all agree. 00:36:37 Speaker 2: That, yes, I think these we talked about the system that's that football and women's volleyball are using basketball, may or may not be using it. But any system worth its weight is factoring in likelihood to to to to be better. I'm sure that's true. 00:36:56 Speaker 13: Okay, all right, that's good to know. 00:36:58 Speaker 14: Uh. 00:36:59 Speaker 13: Secondly, I'm in the camp of we should have retained Colin Chandler. I think he would have made a jump. And then you know, obviously coming back, he knows what he knows what it feels like to play for Kentucky. And then you got to ask yourself, what if we don't get somebody equivalent in the portal. I mean, we may be going after studs, but there's. 00:37:19 Speaker 2: Would you be okay with a right we would have had to pay him an amount of money where he would have needed to be our second best player on the team. Would you be okay building a team where Colin Chandler is your second best player on the team. 00:37:37 Speaker 13: I think he has the ability to be the second best player. So if that's the case, then yes. 00:37:43 Speaker 2: But okay, I may be. 00:37:44 Speaker 13: In the minority. 00:37:46 Speaker 2: No, no, but yeah, I appreciate the call. But that's what you have to ask yourself. Kentucky. I think was appreciate the call. They were willing to pay him to be the third or fourth best player on the team. He wanted money that would be to be the second best player on the team. That's kind of the way I envisioned it. Tucky wanted to give him maybe even fourth best player money. He wanted second best player. So the question you have to ask yourself is do I think Colin Chandler could be the second best player on a Final fourteen because we're trying to build final four squads, right And you just have to decide for yourself what the answer to that question is, John, Go ahead, John. 00:38:24 Speaker 11: Yeah, I have three questions. If you had to guess how much money is our in on alibusters. 00:38:34 Speaker 2: Well, I mean that's hard to say because of the way the moneys. I would say we probably will have a top seven budget in the country. As for what the raw dollars are, I think I'm not sure, but I would say if your ranking programs will last year, we were probably in the top three. This year, we're probably gonna be top six to seven. 00:38:56 Speaker 11: Okay, so like like eighteen or twenty mil in that range. 00:39:00 Speaker 2: Again, I think a lot of these numbers are fake, But if you want to use the fake numbers, then yeah, something like that. 00:39:08 Speaker 11: Okay, So the team next year looks like it's gonna be Cam Williams, Malachi Marino, Trent Nolla, and that center from San Diego State, like as Zooner or something. 00:39:21 Speaker 2: I don't think money, yeah, I don't think we Oh, you mean, how much have we spent so far? Again, raw numbers are hard. I appreciate the call. I would say, of Kentucky's potential budget that they have, we've probably spent thirty percent of it twenty five. Maybe there's a lot of money still out there to go get guys, but now they got to get them. You have all the money in the world, people don't take it, and this is the time. I mean, yeah, so I think we've probably spent a thirty percent of the money. I think Malachi took a discount. Malachi is making much more than he made last year, but I think he took a disc count as to what he could have gotten. And I think Cam's probably being paid very similar to what he got last year, which I think he was a steel last year. So I actually think they've they've If you're looking at have they been efficient, I think the answer is so far. Yes. Now let's see what happens with the rest of it. Roger, go ahead, Roger. 00:40:20 Speaker 14: Yeah, thanks to thank mar call. I was curious, are they going after that? The Center for Georgia that surreal and uh, whoever they get next year, do they have the cultures to improve those players? 00:40:33 Speaker 2: Well, that's a second question. I'm not sure. I appreciate the call. I would hope, So I don't think they're going after some too. It sounds like he's like, it's what Arkansas and Miami. 00:40:42 Speaker 4: Yeah, Jay Lucas might be swooping in and taking him from Arkansas. Hope he does, because he was a do night contact. Look like he was a do not contact. 00:40:48 Speaker 2: So like he he already knew everybody assumed he was going to go to Arkansas, right, But now there's some chatter that Jay Lucas may have gotten he meant Miami. 00:40:57 Speaker 3: So he played well against US this year, that's for sure. Like if the best games against US. 00:41:01 Speaker 2: You think he's a cal kind of player. 00:41:04 Speaker 3: Ronnie call didn't have a lot of just massive, No, he didn't. 00:41:08 Speaker 2: I don't know. Nerlins, by the way, was the number one overall recruit, So that's another one. So we had wal Davis. Nerlin's scal So in the course of seven years, we had the overall number one four times and Carl was number two. So we had one of the top two players five of those years, and then the other year we didn't have number one, but like Randall and the twins were both in the top eight or seven. 00:41:34 Speaker 4: Well, Cal's last recruiting class that the fans hurt had three of the top five of their positions, had three top five players with Edwards was number one wing, Bradshaw was a number one center, DJ number one guard, and then you. 00:41:45 Speaker 2: Had Robin Reid. Yeah, we forget that the three highest ranked players in that class all kind of were disappointments. 00:41:52 Speaker 4: But remember fans hurt the recruiting there. Yeah, number one class, number one class with three of the top five. 00:42:00 Speaker 2: Probably Cal's second best. 00:42:01 Speaker 4: Overall class was that year just didn't pan out. 00:42:04 Speaker 2: Yeah, uh, if I'm nine, twenty two eighty seven, We're gonna take a break, take more of your questions on and ask anything, talk about a couple more topics. It is Kentucky Sports Radio
