MyPods And Boomsticks (S20E07)
A pretty controversial theme for a Simpsons episode, even if it does feel like it came 5 years too late. Essentially, Bart befriends a muslim boy and Homer quickly assumes he and his family are terrorists. Meanwhile, Lisa becomes obsessed with Mapple products.

To me, though, <v Speaker 1>feels like it came about four or five years too late. <v Speaker 1>It is my Pods and Boomsticks. I'm Dwando and I'm Guy. Yes, <v Speaker 1>welcome to the podcast where we think differently. <v Speaker 4>Yes, it felt like a real time capsule this episode. <v Speaker 4>But also, I don't know, startlingly relevant. <v Speaker 1>Weird because I'm watching this going okay because this is <v Speaker 1>back when and this kind of stuff is still relevant today. <v Speaker 1>I'm not saying it's not right with the racism towards <v Speaker 1>the Muslim community and whatnot, but it just feels like <v Speaker 1>it was really heated post nine to eleven. She's two <v Speaker 1>thousand and one, two thousand and three, fourths when it <v Speaker 1>really felt like it was just all eyes on and <v Speaker 1>everyone was being scrutinized, and it was just everywhere right <v Speaker 1>throughout the community for obvious reasons. I'm not saying as <v Speaker 1>right or wrong, but that's what happened. Right this came <v Speaker 1>out in two thousand and eight. To this episode, I <v Speaker 1>feel like The Simpsons are really known for I know <v Speaker 1>it takes so long to make an episode, but it <v Speaker 1>feels like they really they don't cash in much like <v Speaker 1>because we do South Park right, and they cash in <v Speaker 1>because of the way they make the show The Simpsons <v Speaker 1>always feels like they're eighteen months past the mark. They <v Speaker 1>did an episode of in the new season where they <v Speaker 1>were talking about I actually it was Futurama. If Trum <v Speaker 1>is a similar sort of time schedule, Yeah, making an <v Speaker 1>episode without talking about NFTs. NFTs were dead by the <v Speaker 1>time this episode came out. They went and everyone's going, Ah, <v Speaker 1>this would have been relevant eighteen months ago when you <v Speaker 1>were writing it, But now when it's released, this feels <v Speaker 1>really dated. Now. I don't know whether this would have <v Speaker 1>felt data because as I said, it's still prominent in <v Speaker 1>the community, but it just feels like if they had <v Speaker 1>a cash in two or three years earlier, this would <v Speaker 1>have really been a not a classic episode. But I <v Speaker 1>really talked about one. <v Speaker 4>Look, there's stuff that evergreen topics unfortunately, racism, prejudice, and <v Speaker 4>power Annoyer topics that never really go out of fashion, <v Speaker 4>sad to say, But at the same time, this feels <v Speaker 4>like it's trying to tackle it in a very relevant <v Speaker 4>and very of the moment kind of way. <v Speaker 1>The moment was four years ago. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, as you said, there's a lot of prep work, <v Speaker 4>there's a lot of you know, there's devising stories, there's <v Speaker 4>writing scripts, there's the animation. <v Speaker 1>The animation. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, of course it's going to take a while, but <v Speaker 4>it's that's usually around eighteen months or so according to you. <v Speaker 1>I mean, it's nine months to make it, but we're <v Speaker 1>going to write it as well, be four. <v Speaker 4>Or five years off the pace. Yeah, yeah, I mean <v Speaker 4>you'd be looking at it. As I said, this felt <v Speaker 4>like a time capsule. Wuld have felt like a time <v Speaker 4>capsule back in two thousand and eight. <v Speaker 1>Maybe it was one of those ones where they thought <v Speaker 1>they were sitting on it for a while, do we <v Speaker 1>do we not? And they finally pulled the trigger, but <v Speaker 1>you don't. Don't do it? Then, don't pull the trigger <v Speaker 1>this late because watching it in retrospect, I'm not gonna lie. Well, <v Speaker 1>NiCl I'm watching it and bet with Nicola, right, and <v Speaker 1>Nicholas sort of just listening to it but not really <v Speaker 1>watching it, and she's just going, is the point of <v Speaker 1>this meant to be that it's just ridiculously offensive or <v Speaker 1>that is being offensive? No? No, no, that's the joke here, <v Speaker 1>and she goes, okay, good, because you can't say any <v Speaker 1>of this stuff anymore. You can say any of this <v Speaker 1>stuff then. <v Speaker 4>No, I mean it feels very I think they're covering <v Speaker 4>their ass by making Homer the dumbest person. <v Speaker 1>That annoyed me first and foremost because I went, you're <v Speaker 1>just you're making home of the most obnoxious racist jerk <v Speaker 1>in the world, right, But it's also he's just oblivious, <v Speaker 1>and I get why they had to use Homer because <v Speaker 1>he is the show and by this point, by this point, <v Speaker 1>he's a joke anyway, That's what I mean. <v Speaker 4>Homer is, of course, as I didn't mean just the <v Speaker 4>dumbest person on the planet for this episode. I mean <v Speaker 4>generally he's kind of like this guy's not bright but <v Speaker 4>also just easily led. <v Speaker 1>I think is more where what this episode is to Yeah, <v Speaker 1>which I think is important that he didn't originally think <v Speaker 1>this way until his friends convinced him to think that way, <v Speaker 1>that the idiots from the bar they made him go, oh, <v Speaker 1>you're right, because he wasn't not in any way bothered <v Speaker 1>by Bashir and he liked Bishia. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. <v Speaker 4>Absolutely, I found it a little odd and maybe a <v Speaker 4>little off putting. There need to be another link in <v Speaker 4>the chain in what sense, Well, Homer gets converted by <v Speaker 4>Lenny and Karl at the bar. I get the thing <v Speaker 4>I would have liked to have seen Lenni and Carl <v Speaker 4>be converted by something like mass media. <v Speaker 1>Or what they do that's they do it in that scene. <v Speaker 1>Are they in that scene? I mean, Lenny and Karl <v Speaker 1>are But Homer says, I need to see something from <v Speaker 1>a fictional TV show that's going to improve your theories <v Speaker 1>twenty four. <v Speaker 4>It just feels I could draw my own conclusions. I <v Speaker 4>could sort of make the mental lead that, oh, okay, <v Speaker 4>Lenny and Carl have probably been. <v Speaker 1>Watching their version of twenty four or just plan on <v Speaker 1>twenty four, so you need it, or an immiganst kind <v Speaker 1>of scene. You mean, yeah, yeah, I needed. <v Speaker 4>Like Fox News on in Most Heaven, and you maybe <v Speaker 4>needed to sort of going on and on. So there's <v Speaker 4>just this constant hum of propaganda and everyone sort of <v Speaker 4>gets infected by it and picks up on. <v Speaker 1>It and they pass it on to bamble. It's like <v Speaker 1>a virus. It goes viral because kids watching this probably <v Speaker 1>wouldn't get why they're thinking this way, because obviously, in <v Speaker 1>the community in America predominantly many people were thought and <v Speaker 1>were Lenny and Carl esque in the real world right <v Speaker 1>the way that their their thought process. Kids, though, don't <v Speaker 1>think that way unless they're told to think that. If <v Speaker 1>you're just, if you're just a normal keep watching the show, <v Speaker 1>you go, why were he and Carl jerks all of <v Speaker 1>a sudden, why they think this way? You're right, So <v Speaker 1>they need to sort of set up why they're thinking <v Speaker 1>this way because they're easily swayed by the media, or if. <v Speaker 4>You're going to have you Lenny and Carl being prejudiced <v Speaker 4>from the jump, I've not explored that a little bit more, <v Speaker 4>a little bit further down the line, or have them <v Speaker 4>explained why that's the case. <v Speaker 1>Or maybe you could have had because they didn't touch <v Speaker 1>on the fact that the Muslim family don't what's their <v Speaker 1>last name, it's been Ladin, don't drink alcohole. So maybe <v Speaker 1>that could have been a reason for Lenny and Carl <v Speaker 1>to go, can't trust this guy and then sort of <v Speaker 1>just spirals from there. Maybe I don't. <v Speaker 4>Know, true, Yeah, I mean, I think you maybe need <v Speaker 4>to also addressed the real resurgency. We just talked about <v Speaker 4>this on an episode of Going Down to South Park <v Speaker 4>where it's you know, I'm a little bit country, I'm <v Speaker 4>a little bit rock and roll, and if you don't <v Speaker 4>like Murray. <v Speaker 1>You can get out. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, I mean South Park is not well. Sometimes South <v Speaker 4>Park is not very subtle at all. Sometimes that lack <v Speaker 4>of suddenly actually works really well. And there was a <v Speaker 4>whole lot of feeling in the States and the Western <v Speaker 4>world of like, you don't like democracy, well you can <v Speaker 4>just get out. <v Speaker 1>So just like that very much. <v Speaker 4>It was really weird in Australia when you know, John <v Speaker 4>Howard and Kevin Rudd were doing it. <v Speaker 1>But it just struck me as a little bit. It's <v Speaker 1>not that you had to be there, a lot of <v Speaker 1>people were there, but. <v Speaker 4>A little more, a little more context might have been <v Speaker 4>needed in the in the framework of telling this entire story, <v Speaker 4>as opposed to just well, this is the way we're <v Speaker 4>thinking now. In eight to whatever, two thousand and eight, <v Speaker 4>or even just in the the early two thousand through <v Speaker 4>to this period, there was this feeling of paranoid and <v Speaker 4>prejudice in the air, and whilst we need a little context, <v Speaker 4>it still does so needed to add some context. It <v Speaker 4>still does exist, obviously still does exist. <v Speaker 1>Right, it's never going out of stuff, It's never going <v Speaker 1>to go out. But I do feel like the inclusiveness <v Speaker 1>is much more prominent now where kids are now taught <v Speaker 1>to be inclusive everybody and it's normal. It's been more <v Speaker 1>normalized too, Like in Australia it was always you know, <v Speaker 1>the Indigenous community, they weren't respected in the way they <v Speaker 1>should have been. Kids. Now you know, welcome to country, <v Speaker 1>that kind of thing. It's just become normalized, which is great. Sure, <v Speaker 1>so watched kids watching this episode, though Aliot would watch <v Speaker 1>this and go, why is everyone so mean? Because he's <v Speaker 1>just not used to he didn't live through that era. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, but at the same time, you know, I fairly <v Speaker 4>it's watching the news right now. Yeah, you're going to <v Speaker 4>be seeing Okay, why are people you spraying anti Semitic <v Speaker 4>signals on synagogues or Jewish schools or Jewish community centers <v Speaker 4>or whatever, because. <v Speaker 1>There's always a target. Because there's always a target. <v Speaker 2>Man. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, as they've always say, you know, you want to <v Speaker 4>if you're a politician, you want to get people on <v Speaker 4>his eye. You do give someone to be people to hate, <v Speaker 4>or someone to be scared of. <v Speaker 1>I'm not going to lie. I actually thought they did <v Speaker 1>a pretty decent job of this. If you're going to <v Speaker 1>do this theme, regardless of being late, and I actually <v Speaker 1>thought that they handled it quite well. Home was a <v Speaker 1>bit over the top, but I think that's what's needed <v Speaker 1>in a comedy. <v Speaker 4>Well, religious and hatred are kind of over the top. <v Speaker 4>These are not passive emotions. No, no, they're not rational <v Speaker 4>at all. <v Speaker 1>You tend to you tend to go big or go home. Yeah. Yeah. <v Speaker 1>And I didn't really like the end because it's just <v Speaker 1>I didn't mind the slapstick of Homer listening in the <v Speaker 1>window and him not hearing certa passive conversation. That's just <v Speaker 1>just that's classics. But then for him to go to <v Speaker 1>the mall and run in and blow I thought this <v Speaker 1>is just a bit silly. It's just it's a bit <v Speaker 1>over the top that he's able to just grab this <v Speaker 1>dynamite and run off with something. Ah, it's all a <v Speaker 1>bit much. I like the bones of it. I like <v Speaker 1>the idea. <v Speaker 4>It's like Homer misunderstands to such a degree that, yeah, <v Speaker 4>he thinks he's being a hero, thinks he's saying that, <v Speaker 4>he thinks he's Jack Bauer by. Oh, you're trying to <v Speaker 4>blow up a Springfield monument of Springfield Land like a maul. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, hey, they give her cookie samples whatever it was. Oh, yeah, <v Speaker 1>that's true. <v Speaker 4>Great brief side track, Lou was talking about how she <v Speaker 4>and some of her friends were just talking about Malls <v Speaker 4>unprompted the other day and. <v Speaker 1>Just like, oh god, we loved Mauls. That was so <v Speaker 1>great when you could actually go and hang out there <v Speaker 1>and shops were open, and we're just like, oh, were <v Speaker 1>those people who are just nostalgic for the for the bland, <v Speaker 1>sterile shopping experience, But you know, we were just consumerous <v Speaker 1>longing for nineties consumerism and commercialist. Do you know what <v Speaker 1>I think would have been a cool job in the nineties, <v Speaker 1>And it sounds ridiculous, but being the guy that created <v Speaker 1>a playlist for Mauls, because you're going to set the mood. <v Speaker 1>All right, it's Saturday. What do people want to hear <v Speaker 1>on a Saturday at two o'clock. Well, we talk about <v Speaker 1>you know, the cold just up the street without our <v Speaker 1>friend Pale Guy. I saw him yesterday. You go to Cols, <v Speaker 1>you'll see him. Yeah, I almost said hello to him. <v Speaker 1>He doesn't know you. <v Speaker 4>We constantly have to keep ourselves in check when when <v Speaker 4>when we go to that particular coals because he has <v Speaker 4>there's Pale Guy, who's great mask guy who we don't trust. <v Speaker 1>I haven't seen him for a while, but Pale Guy <v Speaker 1>was greenny people at the door. I'm like, of course he, <v Speaker 1>of course he's green people at all. That guy. <v Speaker 4>I'm betting he listens to like, you know, Scott Galloway <v Speaker 4>or some grind set mentor who is kind of like <v Speaker 4>you know, there's dignity in all labor, and if you <v Speaker 4>take your job seriously, you can work out the ladder. <v Speaker 4>You know, nothing wrong with being. <v Speaker 1>The manager at the produce section at the Coals on <v Speaker 1>Shannon Avenue. <v Speaker 4>Is it perfectly a good job? He's like, yeah, you're right. <v Speaker 4>You know, I'm never going to be fortune five hundred <v Speaker 4>buck you ma'am, and I'm going to run this coals <v Speaker 4>like a well ol machine for pale Guy. Yeah, but yeah, <v Speaker 4>something they had playing there. You know generally you think <v Speaker 4>at a supermarket or a store it's music. <v Speaker 1>Well, it used to be new Zak. You're aware term musak. <v Speaker 4>Yes, some some of our listeners may not, but it <v Speaker 4>was it just bland, sort of auto tuned remixes of <v Speaker 4>actual songs. And they have to pay royalties. <v Speaker 1>It was royalty free pop songs. <v Speaker 4>Correct, Yes, And now Cole's has what Cole's radio, which <v Speaker 4>is actual songs, and they've got some semi familiar voice saying, hey, <v Speaker 4>welcome to Cole's Radio. And while you're an L four <v Speaker 4>check out, we've got special Impasta and now he's the <v Speaker 4>captain of Tanil or something that they wish start playing <v Speaker 4>something as cool asil. Why are we talking about this <v Speaker 4>because he had more music. <v Speaker 1>That'd be great, that'd be a pretty sweet gig. <v Speaker 4>As I'm always low, as I always like to say, <v Speaker 4>we used to make things in this country. <v Speaker 1>We did, indeed, But you mentioned twenty four before. Now <v Speaker 1>the guest star of this episode, who plays the wife Mina, <v Speaker 1>I'm not even gonna try and pronoun her name, shashloum. Okay, yes, <v Speaker 1>so she was I only watched the first season of <v Speaker 1>twenty four. She wasn't in the first season. <v Speaker 4>No, No, she was in a few like in because <v Speaker 4>twenty four, a few seasons six He was like, yeah, <v Speaker 4>maybe like three to six or something like that. <v Speaker 1>Yeah. <v Speaker 4>But an Iranian Iranian actor or Iranian American, shall we say, <v Speaker 4>because I think she was born in Iran and immigrated <v Speaker 4>to America maybe in the late seventies or early eighties <v Speaker 4>or something. <v Speaker 1>It's okay, we claim Russell Crowe. <v Speaker 4>Correct, Yeah, so not anymore. Yeah, but Russell Coe actually <v Speaker 4>actually a ki We. <v Speaker 1>But did we claim mel Gibson for a while? Oh yeah, <v Speaker 1>but he's not. We don't really do it anymore. But <v Speaker 1>he is not. But he's not. Where's he from? Well, <v Speaker 1>he was born in America, but he wasn't raised a show, <v Speaker 1>was he? I think for the most part. Yeah, I've <v Speaker 1>forgotten when his family actually immigrated here. But so much <v Speaker 1>abat thinking what possessed mel Gibson to come to Australia <v Speaker 1>from America and make this fucking whack movie. <v Speaker 4>I don't realize he lived here. Yeah, no, I think <v Speaker 4>the I think he probably came. He might have been <v Speaker 4>either a child or a young teenager. Okay, because you <v Speaker 4>know he attended night of the main drama school here <v Speaker 4>in Australia. I think it was like roommates with Jeffrey <v Speaker 4>Rush as well, talk about a couple of canceled. <v Speaker 1>Dudes under the one roof job as. <v Speaker 4>First of all, that woman's got a voice like but yeah, <v Speaker 4>but she's Yeah, she's a really really good actor. <v Speaker 1>She's been a bunch of stuff. <v Speaker 4>I think she was Oscar nominated for really yeah, a <v Speaker 4>movie called House of Sand and Fog. <v Speaker 1>Okay, I've never seen that film, but yeah, doing a <v Speaker 1>guy's girlfriend Jennifer Conley, Okay, she is your girlfriend. Do <v Speaker 1>you have any favorite moments from the episode. I did <v Speaker 1>have one or two. <v Speaker 4>I like that the bullies, Yeah, they don't really care <v Speaker 4>about They just want to beat up on anyone who's <v Speaker 4>not them. <v Speaker 1>This was a better use of the boys that we've <v Speaker 1>had in a long time, I think, because lately, really <v Speaker 1>it feels like they've got no idea what to do <v Speaker 1>with them anymore. This that was used right, just making bullies. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>and the little bullies just want a bully. They don't <v Speaker 1>need it just for cash. They don't need a reason. <v Speaker 1>I don't want to bully you. <v Speaker 4>But it's great because they he says his name, But <v Speaker 4>it's like Bashir, I like a kid that comes with instructions. <v Speaker 4>That's actually pretty good luck. Yeah, that's a very funny <v Speaker 4>line when Bashir comes to the Simpson household, bills is <v Speaker 4>looking good. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, your skin. <v Speaker 4>Color's got contacts, skin colors looking good? <v Speaker 1>You catch phase. I think maybe it was a very <v Speaker 1>throwaway line, but it was. <v Speaker 4>It just really was emblematic of all the like twenty <v Speaker 4>four born identity, all this kind of stuff. It's on <v Speaker 4>the computer at the at the bin laden household chess <v Speaker 4>presses on terms of I mean, because I think I've <v Speaker 4>done that plenty of times. When it's like a bonet, Yeah, <v Speaker 4>I'm on the Google. I mean you're typing away best <v Speaker 4>risotto recipe. Well, you know you've got like the two <v Speaker 4>keyboards going like Hugh Jackman's Swordfish Yeah, a date. <v Speaker 1>I love the fact that he was typing away doing <v Speaker 1>all his clicking and stuff and he just clicked one <v Speaker 1>of the things on the desktop. Anyway, It's like how <v Speaker 1>many times you watch a movie and they're fucking doing <v Speaker 1>all this and it's like, that's not doing anything. <v Speaker 4>Oh yeah, hacking is the least cinematic, least compelling. <v Speaker 1>Yes, kind of. You have to, you have to really <v Speaker 1>ramp it up. It's likely to make lies. <v Speaker 4>It's just you know, it's that guy from the Simpsons <v Speaker 4>who the I'm sorry, it's that guy from south Park, <v Speaker 4>the gamer that you know, Yeah, the really sort of <v Speaker 4>sloven with a risk. All do you respect a coder's <v Speaker 4>out there? You're doing better than me, Well, well you're. <v Speaker 1>Used to it. I took your job. Bad luck. Nerd. <v Speaker 4>Sorry, yeah, I imagine they take unbridge at that. But yeah, coding, <v Speaker 4>I think is just a lot of I'm at the <v Speaker 4>keyboard and I'm just entering lines, lines, lines on it. <v Speaker 1>It's not I love it when you're watching a sitcom <v Speaker 1>and people just they so many actors don't know how <v Speaker 1>to act driving they're doing this, Oh yeah, who does that? <v Speaker 1>When you're driving? Hold hold a step ten and two. <v Speaker 1>I just fucking hold it slightly askew. Sometimes they're doing <v Speaker 1>this and it can't just driving straight? Are you aiming <v Speaker 1>to hit wild animals? Yeah? What is going running? Trying <v Speaker 1>to run over that cat? What's wrong with you? I <v Speaker 1>really liked one of my favorite moments. I liked the <v Speaker 1>dinner scene. Right. It was all just really well structured, <v Speaker 1>well book together. So Bart says, don't judge them by <v Speaker 1>their religion, blah blah blah. And then he says to Bart, <v Speaker 1>don't you disrespect your father by something in front of <v Speaker 1>me or whatever. Then grandfather says, I love the way <v Speaker 1>you Italians think. But then Homer as a further gag <v Speaker 1>where he says, shut up, old man. It's like Homer <v Speaker 1>is he tells Bart stop disrespecting Homer for being disrespect <v Speaker 1>blah blahlah. Then home it's disrespected for his father. It <v Speaker 1>was just like bang bang, punch on, punch on, punch on. <v Speaker 1>I thought it was really well put together, that scene. <v Speaker 1>And I always love a good Homer trying to be <v Speaker 1>quiet and just making a ship like a noise, but <v Speaker 1>just the box of symbols, because why not. I I <v Speaker 1>went to Zing pop culture no sponsors, so I saw <v Speaker 1>a GiMA shout out because I always cash you when <v Speaker 1>they do their clearance is because a good way to <v Speaker 1>run a pop culture store is when shit's not selling <v Speaker 1>or you've got two ouch of stuff, put it on <v Speaker 1>clearance and people will buy that ship. That's good. And <v Speaker 1>that's what I did. And I went in there and <v Speaker 1>I saw PJ sets down there. There's these PJ sets <v Speaker 1>down there. I should get one up with. He's not lying, <v Speaker 1>they're actually there. So this one here I hold up <v Speaker 1>to the camera is one of cinnamon butters. I've got <v Speaker 1>this for Nickeola, right, fifty nine dollars brand new, all <v Speaker 1>PJ sets, nine dollars, it's excuse me, and fifty nine <v Speaker 1>and I literally just crossed fifty of it. And I <v Speaker 1>looked at it, and I went, m that's not right. <v Speaker 1>At must be like select select pj's And I said, <v Speaker 1>just checking, Like those Simpsons ones aren't nine dollar are they. <v Speaker 1>She goes, yeah, I'm pretty sure anything on that rex <v Speaker 1>nine dollars. And I was like, Brendan, don't see anything. <v Speaker 1>Just quietly put all the pjs on the counter. You <v Speaker 1>did Homer at the film Persient, I'll take ten. So <v Speaker 1>I grabbed the Simpsons one. I was like, one was <v Speaker 1>sixty nine, one was fifty nine, and one was forty nine. <v Speaker 1>I'm like, go, one hundred and eighty bucks worth the <v Speaker 1>PJS for twenty seven dollars. That's pretty good. It was <v Speaker 1>pretty good, right, How could you not do if you <v Speaker 1>if you saw a PJ set that you liked or <v Speaker 1>we're the Country Road, right, and there was a shirt <v Speaker 1>that was normally eight dollars and I had it for <v Speaker 1>nine dollars and you're like this one. She's like, yeah, <v Speaker 1>You're like, even if I don't want it, I have <v Speaker 1>to buy it. It's nine dollars. There have been occasions <v Speaker 1>and that has been the case. <v Speaker 4>I've been on the clearance side or whatever, and it's like, Okay, <v Speaker 4>I'm in the market for a black Henley top. <v Speaker 1>Ah, this is the waffle version. It's not quite it's <v Speaker 1>a little thicker than I want. One the pancake version. <v Speaker 4>I wanted that, Yeah, that's correct, one of the meeple <v Speaker 4>syrup version. It was like, this isn't quite what I wanted, <v Speaker 4>but it was a dollars and now it's twenty five dollars. <v Speaker 4>It's like, okay, I'll take the hits because it's not <v Speaker 4>going to be exactly. <v Speaker 1>What I wanted, but it's going to be close enough <v Speaker 1>and for that price. Yes, you are right. Yes, so <v Speaker 1>I cashed in. You can't came in. You certainly did. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>and till tails out of school. <v Speaker 4>Though for a second, you may want to cut this out. <v Speaker 4>I rocked over to Dando's house today to record this episode. <v Speaker 1>What are here? <v Speaker 4>When when I come in? Ah, I've got to fix <v Speaker 4>the cupboard. My shelf just broke off. So just say <v Speaker 4>this is where nickol like keeps all ship. You weren't <v Speaker 4>saying it in a derogatory zens like that was like, <v Speaker 4>and looking at it's like, oh, yeah, there's a lot <v Speaker 4>of empty tup of wee containers all that kind of stuff, <v Speaker 4>all the ship. <v Speaker 1>That I've got on my every pantry has a shoff <v Speaker 1>where shit goes to die. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, And I was about implicit in that statement, was <v Speaker 4>like we got to throw some of this shit out, and. <v Speaker 1>Yet I come in. Here's like I bought so many <v Speaker 1>pairs of pajamas, but I will use them. That's the <v Speaker 1>thing that's correct. <v Speaker 4>You're not going to use those that those couple of contains, <v Speaker 4>but you are going to wear five pairs of. <v Speaker 1>Nick Well, fuck that. She'll like, we'll go get tie food, right, <v Speaker 1>and they give them the place of containers and she'll <v Speaker 1>keep them. Like, Nick, we've got a cover full of <v Speaker 1>that ship. You still keep all of them. They've got <v Speaker 1>like tie basil of it on the bottom of them. <v Speaker 1>I am guilty of this. <v Speaker 4>I actually just washed the I've got a very nice <v Speaker 4>tig green carrier from black Basil in in height and <v Speaker 4>good place front of the pod and a little. <v Speaker 1>Strip in near pizza. Yeah, they are good. <v Speaker 4>They are really nice. And I'm like, I've got them <v Speaker 4>in the sink, Washington. I know it's bad for the <v Speaker 4>environment to throw these out, but why am I washing them? <v Speaker 1>These are disposable, they're busty. You just put them in <v Speaker 1>the recycling Well, are they really going to be recycled, <v Speaker 1>come on, dand talking about now he's been I'll take <v Speaker 1>your tinfoil cap off. Let's get a trivia shall we. <v Speaker 1>Let's there's only so much time on the actually before <v Speaker 1>we can do that, because I was in one of <v Speaker 1>my trivia questions. There's a whole aspect of this episode <v Speaker 1>we haven't even touched on yet. And it's the other <v Speaker 1>outdated part of this episode. It's Lisa obsessed with my pods. <v Speaker 1>Slashed eye was Apple Mapple right? So the come out <v Speaker 1>in two thousand and one. There's a reason we didn't <v Speaker 1>talk about. It's not that interesting. It's not interesting. But <v Speaker 1>I'm watching this going, why are you doing this story now? <v Speaker 1>I was more dumbfounded by that one, going, I get <v Speaker 1>that the iPhone has just come out, and I guess, <v Speaker 1>you know, maybe Apple really took off when the iPhone <v Speaker 1>came out, which is two thousand and seven. This is <v Speaker 1>too so kind of the time. But still I'm watching <v Speaker 1>this going, this just feels. <v Speaker 4>Lame again, feels daylight and dollar short. Yeah, and it <v Speaker 4>was years late and several dollars short, and it. <v Speaker 1>Wasn't all that funny. It wasn't it's not taking the <v Speaker 1>micky out of Apple isn't worthy of an entire storyline. No, <v Speaker 1>it's almost like they were afraid of Apple and Steve <v Speaker 1>Jobs and all that. <v Speaker 4>I mean, they could have turned them into a Hank <v Speaker 4>Scorpio type and they did to like maybe yeah, No, <v Speaker 4>they didn't make them an evil genius. <v Speaker 1>It felt like they was sucking up to Apple. Don't <v Speaker 1>you Reckon? Kind of yeah, as Almos, they're trying to <v Speaker 1>take the mickey out of people who are obsessed with Apple, <v Speaker 1>but they weren't willing to go all the way like <v Speaker 1>Tray and Mattwood from South Park, like they would really <v Speaker 1>take them becau is there an Apple based episode of <v Speaker 1>South Park that have to be Surely we'll get to it. <v Speaker 4>We'll get to it because we're doing a lot of <v Speaker 4>episodes of going down to South Puck. <v Speaker 1>But as I said, Trivia four figure discount is brought <v Speaker 1>to you by our incredible supporters on Patreon. It is do do <v Speaker 1>Do Do? Do? Do Do Do do? Jeopardy dipods, sleigh list. <v Speaker 4>Oh, it's it's the name of the Eaching and Scratch episode. <v Speaker 4>It is the Hey comic book guy has having a <v Speaker 4>problem with what version of the operating system? <v Speaker 1>Oh, I've got no idea. What is that? Four point two? <v Speaker 1>Four point two? I didn't mind him throwing the hammer <v Speaker 1>at the window, which is a take off of the <v Speaker 1>commercial it is. Indeed, that's pretty much that revolutionized, right, Yeah? Yeah, <v Speaker 1>that created that. That made Macintosh, didn't it that ad? Yeah? <v Speaker 4>Fun point. Do you know who directed that episode? Who <v Speaker 4>directed who directed that commercial? Who directed that commercial? I <v Speaker 4>should probably know? It was probably in the Seed Jobs movie? <v Speaker 1>He was it? It was Ridley Scott. Was it really low? Yeah? <v Speaker 1>That wouldn't have cost a pretty penny. Absolutely, and it <v Speaker 1>would have cost it. They would have paid for that, <v Speaker 1>not just for his tumbles. To have his name attached <v Speaker 1>to it makes them seem legitimate. <v Speaker 4>Oh yeah, absolutely, yeah, because he's this is not long <v Speaker 4>after after the one two punch of Alien and Blade Runner. <v Speaker 1>Yeah. Yeah, so he's eighty four. I reckon it was, Yes, <v Speaker 1>and the AD's called nineteen eighty four as well. Of course, yes, <v Speaker 1>that that makes sense. So my next question for you <v Speaker 1>is what magazine was Marjor reading in bed? She was <v Speaker 1>reading Barely Regal. Now my question to he was who <v Speaker 1>was on the cover of that issue? Well, it was <v Speaker 1>a prince of some kind? Was it? The one that's <v Speaker 1>been done for child touching? That could be any prince <v Speaker 1>except except Prince So prince, it's Prince Charles's brother. What's <v Speaker 1>his name? Oh? I don't think it's an actual prince. <v Speaker 1>Oh isn't it? Okay? Oh it wasn't Andrew. <v Speaker 4>I thought it was print Okay, yeah, okay, no, no, no, <v Speaker 4>it was Prince Olaf of Norway. <v Speaker 1>Oh there we go. Okay. Then my final question for <v Speaker 1>you is I'm going to so how many how many <v Speaker 1>songs did Lisa download twelve hundred, No twelve, twelve hundred <v Speaker 1>and twelve, I believe. Oh okay, twelve hundred and twelve. <v Speaker 1>Let me have a look somewhere in my notes. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>because the cost of twelve dollars and nine nine cents each. Oh, <v Speaker 1>she's what it was? Tweve hundred and twelve songs? Did <v Speaker 1>they say that or did you? Did you do the <v Speaker 1>man at LISTA? No? No, she goes two hundred dollars <v Speaker 1>but only downloaded twelve hundred and twelve songs. Okay, I <v Speaker 1>was close. But as they say, no cigar, I will <v Speaker 1>as much as I I would say despise Apple, but <v Speaker 1>I just got of. I mock and laugh at people <v Speaker 1>who use Apple phones and have to have the Apple <v Speaker 1>this Apple. That the iPod was a fucking incredible invention. <v Speaker 1>Oh absolutely, but that was that was that changed the world, <v Speaker 1>the iPod. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, I see, I have only ever owned like one <v Speaker 4>Apple item. And it's not because I'm taking a stand <v Speaker 4>or anything like that. <v Speaker 1>I don't know. <v Speaker 4>Maybe it's I'm a weird contrarian, but I mean, look, <v Speaker 4>when it comes to phone, I'm a Samsung guy. Honestly, <v Speaker 4>A lot of my tech is like Samsung and Galaxy. <v Speaker 1>I like to use my phone as a be able <v Speaker 1>to do things with it. Apples like you will use <v Speaker 1>Apple devices and that's it. <v Speaker 4>Maybe that's my problem with the Apple does feel very <v Speaker 4>much like a closed system of close lube. And when <v Speaker 4>you've got one thing, you have to have everything if <v Speaker 4>you want anything to be connected. <v Speaker 1>Even the fake ship the mock shit costs money. <v Speaker 4>Oh yeah, that was that's my next question, okay, which <v Speaker 4>we'll get to an ext But the only thing I've <v Speaker 4>ever owned was like an Apple, iPod, nano. <v Speaker 1>Or small ones. Yeah, I never like the names are <v Speaker 1>too small for me. I like the bigger ones, but <v Speaker 1>people love them, I understand. Yeah yeah, and they don't <v Speaker 1>make that anymore. But it's like, oh man, I understand <v Speaker 1>why because I wouldn't use one anymore either. But it's <v Speaker 1>just sad because I host thought. I have so many <v Speaker 1>memories of walking down the street just listening to my <v Speaker 1>having the first time was able to have a collection <v Speaker 1>of songs in your hand. Kids now would just never <v Speaker 1>understand it, but just being able to put it, plug <v Speaker 1>it in. Of course you have to have iTunes you <v Speaker 1>to have all the ship, but you would have your <v Speaker 1>own download of songs you transferm over and you make <v Speaker 1>your own little play lists, and it's like that was unbelievable. Well, <v Speaker 1>is't think? I mean before that, of course you would <v Speaker 1>make the odd mixtape or anything like that. But that's limited. <v Speaker 4>It's limited, limited and not in the good way, but <v Speaker 4>you know, fairly small scale, whereas this is like boom, <v Speaker 4>mind blown. Yeah, I really like that little live button <v Speaker 4>and the other thing about They touch on this, but <v Speaker 4>actually I really sort of elaborate on this in the episode. <v Speaker 1>Is how cool all that shit looked? Yeah? Apple stuff <v Speaker 1>looks great. Yeah, the packaging and everything, yeah yeah. <v Speaker 4>The tech is like half of it. The marketing and <v Speaker 4>the design is there's bad mats, but it's like half <v Speaker 4>and a half of it. <v Speaker 1>Do you know who liked Apple Jet? The band Oh <v Speaker 1>Better preface Better followed up with the band, so they <v Speaker 1>had are you going to be My Girl? On their <v Speaker 1>commercial and that was iconic commercial. Oh yeah yeah, very <v Speaker 1>very smart savvy marketing Apple oh yeah, good at marketing, <v Speaker 1>good at design, and also bim not bad at tech either. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, there's there's a reason Apple is Apple. Yes. <v Speaker 1>One last trivia question, what is the price of a pair. <v Speaker 4>Of my phony were they forty dollars, We're indeed forty bucks. <v Speaker 1>It is stone kind of shout out time for February <v Speaker 1>twenty twenty five, starting with the lovely lady Katy g <v Speaker 1>herself with her one hundred dollars support as always, Thank <v Speaker 1>you so much, Katig. It's in <v Speaker 1>a description of this podcast. All right, let's get into <v Speaker 1>a review of My Pods and boom Sticks. The original <v Speaker 1>air day of the episode was November thirtieth, two thousand <v Speaker 1>and eight. Production code kab F twenty, written by Mark Willmore, <v Speaker 1>directed by Stephen Dean Moore. The chop board Gabe, prosperity <v Speaker 1>is just around the corner, I hope to actually oh well, <v Speaker 1>And the couch gag is that so the cash is <v Speaker 1>another chort gag is where they walk in and they <v Speaker 1>find Bart riding I will not bring the chalk board home, <v Speaker 1>and he's actually writing it on the chot board. Sorry, <v Speaker 1>this air in what two thousand and eight, two thousand <v Speaker 1>and eight, November thirtieth, Yeah, won did the global financial <v Speaker 1>crisis actually like. <v Speaker 4>Kick in ten? I thought it started in two thousand <v Speaker 4>and eight, twenty ten. I thought it was it's never <v Speaker 4>ended last I'm pretty sure. I'm pretty sure it was <v Speaker 4>two thousand and eight. <v Speaker 1>That. Oh yeah. Global Financial crisis, also known as a <v Speaker 1>two thousand and eight financial crisis, occurred between the mid <v Speaker 1>two thousand and seven and early two thousand and nine. <v Speaker 1>It was the most severe economic crisis since the Great Depression. Okay, <v Speaker 1>so yeah, but it was. It was great for dvid fans. <v Speaker 1>I ain't going to buy me some US DVDs at <v Speaker 1>less price. Good time to be alive. It was, yeah, <v Speaker 1>all right, that was it. That's it. <v Speaker 4>No, I just thought that was a nice bit of <v Speaker 4>I don't know, ironic commentary on the part of the <v Speaker 4>Simpsons guide Prosperity is just around the corner in the <v Speaker 4>middle of the GFC. <v Speaker 1>So in the episode kicks off with the family at <v Speaker 1>the mall, it's Boxing Day and how long do you <v Speaker 1>wait before you take your Christmas shit down? We took <v Speaker 1>out Christmas Street down end of January. Yeah, my Christmas <v Speaker 1>lights were up for quite some time. I feel like <v Speaker 1>we're the ear and now where you go, I need <v Speaker 1>to try and keep the joy alive. That's a very <v Speaker 1>sweet attitude on your partner. Mine was just laziness. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>I hide the laziness behind the fact that I just <v Speaker 1>wanted to keep the joy going. <v Speaker 4>Because I would, you know, I would go see lou <v Speaker 4>and I'll be driving home to my place of an <v Speaker 4>evening and it was almost like a time lapse thing <v Speaker 4>of like, oh, okay, they've taken their lights out. Oh <v Speaker 4>fewer and fewer and fewer Imperial lights as I'm driving <v Speaker 4>home until like I'm the last guy on the block. <v Speaker 4>I've got multicolored lights around. <v Speaker 1>His hand, and you're that neighbor, like, oh, that fucking <v Speaker 1>Bogan naghbor. But apparently it's the Bogan neighbors always take <v Speaker 1>their shit down last. And I'm like, ah, we're the <v Speaker 1>anyone the Christmas shit up, we better take it down. <v Speaker 4>And I'd like to present myself as a man of <v Speaker 4>sophistication and laziness wh doesn't always launch. <v Speaker 1>I was gonna give a shout out to my mum, <v Speaker 1>Marcia Dando, right, She's just sent me. God love her. <v Speaker 1>A message on Facebook, and it is a I created <v Speaker 1>a real Facebook page of Nancy cart Right running through <v Speaker 1>Simpson's voices, write her characters, and she has shed it <v Speaker 1>to me, saying you'd love this, Mom, I made this, <v Speaker 1>I do love this. Proud of my work. I love <v Speaker 1>and if it even says follow fourthing a discount on it, <v Speaker 1>She's just like, wow, what a what a lady? No, no, no, <v Speaker 1>I'm what I'm saying is the video the real She's <v Speaker 1>read that, Mom, I am for a god lover to <v Speaker 1>love very that's very sweet. Yes, it's very much my mom. <v Speaker 1>If you knew my mom, it's very much my mom. <v Speaker 1>She's the one that used to write low at the <v Speaker 1>end of the conference every sentence, thinking it's meant lots <v Speaker 1>of love. She say, I'll be over soon, Lowell, Okay, <v Speaker 1>do you want your chicken from the shop? Loll chicken <v Speaker 1>sold on normal salt loll. <v Speaker 4>The fact that she's closing out with all the lolls <v Speaker 4>on all of these thinking it's lots of love. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, all right, But they're at the mall. It's box <v Speaker 1>bush down, Carols are singing songs. Raindy is getting put <v Speaker 1>in the wood ship. I've got Martin Luther King day <v Speaker 1>coming up. So now doctor King's now in the chair. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>when he finally gets a lunch break, he's fred last. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>it's not insensible, it's a it's a fine gay. I'm <v Speaker 1>glad it wasn't something that went to town where it <v Speaker 1>was just short and sharp got it done. Yeah. So <v Speaker 1>they have the gig now apparently the family where they <v Speaker 1>all get to return one present with no hurt feelings. <v Speaker 1>They all return, but it's cat calendar that he bought for. <v Speaker 1>Everybody felt sorry for him. Then I thought about it <v Speaker 1>and I went, you know what, the calendars are the <v Speaker 1>weirdest fucking present. I always want a Simpson's calendar. But <v Speaker 1>then I look at it and go, why do I <v Speaker 1>need a themed calendar? We have in this house. We <v Speaker 1>holy got a bluey one, al, you got a Jurassic <v Speaker 1>part And I'm thinking, why do we buy each other calendars? <v Speaker 1>They got twenty bucks yore boxing day, buying boxing day <v Speaker 1>that worth like five because they're. <v Speaker 4>Well, it's like buying a diary for the year. I mean, <v Speaker 4>if your old school like me and you actually want <v Speaker 4>a physical diary, yeah, you're write in Yeah, yeah. <v Speaker 1>It's like you're not going to buy that before Christmas, you're. <v Speaker 4>Not even gonna buy you you're not even gonna buy <v Speaker 4>it in the new year. You you're gonna wait until <v Speaker 4>like a week into the new. <v Speaker 1>Usually the boxing every candies you wait till because usually <v Speaker 1>stay arountil about January fourth or fifth. Or what about <v Speaker 1>the supermarkets, that's the shopping malls, you might as well <v Speaker 1>wait till then. I bought the Blue and the Dressy <v Speaker 1>part one flight two dollars each and no originally twenty bucks. <v Speaker 1>And you think if you're still making a profit on too, <v Speaker 1>or do you think it's just that it's trying to <v Speaker 1>get anything back for them? Probably that probably just taking <v Speaker 1>the loss because I think so you're not gonna be <v Speaker 1>able to sell them anymore, so you just take what <v Speaker 1>you can get. A guess other just gonna get pumped. <v Speaker 1>But yeah, so, as I was saying, I felt so <v Speaker 1>for it, and I thought, yeah, it is a ship gift, <v Speaker 1>but the last minute gift. And then Lisa notices the <v Speaker 1>Apple store is now in the in the shop in <v Speaker 1>the shopping mall that's been filled more lovely gleaming cube <v Speaker 1>of the place. It's just them taking the mickey out <v Speaker 1>of all the Apple products. I did love the light <v Speaker 1>confirms that it's off. Lest think I mean, if. <v Speaker 4>You if you were a PC user or a Samsung <v Speaker 4>user or whatever I mean trying to I won't say <v Speaker 4>using Apple stuff is difficult to decide, but it's something like, oh, <v Speaker 4>so I've got to know go left to go right <v Speaker 4>on this one of this button means that. <v Speaker 1>As opposed to well, they don't have control and all <v Speaker 1>those things different buttons. Because if I had a previous employment, <v Speaker 1>they bought everyone it's all Apple everything. They'll convinced that <v Speaker 1>Apple was the way, and I'm going this sucks. Does <v Speaker 1>anyone have any comment? Yeah? Fun Yet Krusty hates his <v Speaker 1>Mypod though why did he hate it? I can't remember <v Speaker 1>why he hated it. It was just something the new music. <v Speaker 1>Don't even get Me Started, scream was too small to <v Speaker 1>watch his shows that think. He said, Yeah, its today, <v Speaker 1>don't get me started, that one on too long, don't <v Speaker 1>get me started. No one gotta be started anyway, So <v Speaker 1>he's going to get an old navy to see if <v Speaker 1>anyone gets them started. Gives his Mypod to Lisa. I <v Speaker 1>think you had some You. <v Speaker 4>Had some commentators taking issue of the fact that it's like, Okay, <v Speaker 4>why is this called Mapple? Why is he called Steve <v Speaker 4>Mobbs when you're actually name checking Oh, Navy, Microsoft. Yeah, <v Speaker 4>it speaks to what you said before, like that they <v Speaker 4>scared of him. Yeah, Like it's bizarre anyway. So she <v Speaker 4>does the dancing silhouettes, which thought it was really cool animation. <v Speaker 4>When she gets it, she doesn't dance, and then he goes, <v Speaker 4>we're all whatever Apple fans, and she does the sad <v Speaker 4>one because a silhouet of someone looking sad with with <v Speaker 4>a myppod. Then it's time for the live announcement from <v Speaker 4>Steve Mobs and he's like a guy who knows actually <v Speaker 4>what we want and he says is at the headquarters <v Speaker 4>under the sea, and then Bart takes over the speech <v Speaker 4>and I've just got here. This just feels like it's <v Speaker 4>the writers taking a shot at Steve Jobs but hiding <v Speaker 4>behind Bart. <v Speaker 1>Oh. Just everything they wanted to get out about the <v Speaker 1>negative side of Apple and the people that follow it <v Speaker 1>all got spoken he through Bart, and I just went, ah, <v Speaker 1>Bart wouldn't care enough to say all that shit. It <v Speaker 1>just felt weird having how did Bart do it? <v Speaker 4>It's weird that Lisa is the one who gets sort <v Speaker 4>of sucked in consumers of I mean, yeah, it's if <v Speaker 4>you're being jeerous, you would say, wow, it's an interesting sword. <v Speaker 4>No one's immune to Apple, but having bart Bley gonna <v Speaker 4>like fight the like No he he buys anything that's <v Speaker 4>got crusty on it. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's it. Yeah exactly. I think this episode needed <v Speaker 1>to have Lisa feeling left out. I know we've done <v Speaker 1>a story a million times, but Lisa feeling that because <v Speaker 1>everyone else has got on my pod, she really wants one, <v Speaker 1>and then she gets sucked him because she wants to <v Speaker 1>be cool with everybody else. Then realize it's not cool <v Speaker 1>to have one. Blah blah blah. You play a different story, <v Speaker 1>better story. Sure, we fixed it again. It is I. <v Speaker 3>You're insanely great leader, Steve mob I'm speaking to you <v Speaker 3>from Mapple headquarters, deep below the sea with an announcement <v Speaker 3>that will completely change the way you look at everything. <v Speaker 2>And that announcement is you're all losers. I think you're <v Speaker 2>cool because you buy a five hundred dollars phone with <v Speaker 2>a picture of a fruit on it. Who gets what <v Speaker 2>they cost eight bucks to make an ip on everyone? <v Speaker 2>I have made a fortune or few chumps, and I've <v Speaker 2>invested it all in Microsoft. Now, my boyfriend Bill Gates <v Speaker 2>and I kiss each other on a pile of your mind. <v Speaker 3>Treat your heart is flackery. <v Speaker 1>Than you're chi neck. You've heard him speaking all of <v Speaker 1>a sudden, his voices out changed to a ten year <v Speaker 1>old boy, and no one's going, what's going on here? <v Speaker 1>It's just, ah, why is he saying all these things? <v Speaker 1>And it's just just to create the gag of a <v Speaker 1>guy throwing the hammer, which was a nice, a fun <v Speaker 1>little tribute, but it just didn't make any sense to Yeah, <v Speaker 1>it feels like Nancy Carra was weirdly directed in this regard. <v Speaker 1>I mean, yeah, it was. <v Speaker 4>It felt more like Bard saying fight the power, you know, <v Speaker 4>Dan with Apple, as opposed to him just being. <v Speaker 1>A little little dick. Yeah, and like Yeah saying making <v Speaker 1>Steve Mobs say, you know, silly shit. He's not rebellious <v Speaker 1>against consumerism. No, he's rebellious because he's just he's rebellious <v Speaker 1>because he's bored. Yeah, and you know, and he wants <v Speaker 1>to stir some shit up. Yeah. So him saying all <v Speaker 1>this stuff doesn't make any sense at all, does it? Now? Really? <v Speaker 1>But the who dare questioned? The boss who we fired <v Speaker 1>ten years and we brought back and they tried to <v Speaker 1>flay Bart with their earbuds. He gets away and then <v Speaker 1>again there he goes, well, why they're trying to give <v Speaker 1>it shining a harsh light on society? I know how <v Speaker 1>now I know how Dane Cook feels. And I was like, whoa, yeah, <v Speaker 1>dated a, Wow, there's the very two thousands episode. Yeah. <v Speaker 1>Really indeed, then he smells some lamb and then I <v Speaker 1>know it's continuity. It doesn't matter about cantuit anymore. But <v Speaker 1>he says, all these years of petting lambs that should <v Speaker 1>have been putting them in my mouth at Thist is <v Speaker 1>a vegetarian. They're all eating lamb. This is lamb, not <v Speaker 1>e lamb. So yeah, one of my favorite Simpsons lines <v Speaker 1>of all time. Yeah, it's like he knows he eats <v Speaker 1>lamb all the time. What the hell? Anyway? <v Speaker 4>Yeah, I mean, if you're going to be talking about, <v Speaker 4>say lamb prepared by someone from Iran or someone from <v Speaker 4>that part of the world. <v Speaker 1>Wow. <v Speaker 4>I thought lamb was kind of like, you know, barbaric <v Speaker 4>but tasty, and all these spices about it lifted to <v Speaker 4>a whole new level. I can barely taste the Barber <v Speaker 4>is there we are. Guy nails it with a killer <v Speaker 4>one line. You barely tastes the slaughter, you can barely <v Speaker 4>taste the pain. Yeah, there we go. Oh god, we're <v Speaker 4>fixing this episode in real time. <v Speaker 1>You barely taste the fear. So then he introduced, but <v Speaker 1>she introduces himself that Bush just wanted to someone's backyard. <v Speaker 1>She is like, hey again. <v Speaker 4>You know, if you're going to be talking about followers <v Speaker 4>of Islam or people from the Middle East or whatever, <v Speaker 4>I don't want to sound condescen any want to say <v Speaker 4>that the people I know who are Middle East are <v Speaker 4>just fucking hearts of gold, most generous people, most welcoming <v Speaker 4>people that I've ever met. They just like, come on in, <v Speaker 4>we have it, we're eating. <v Speaker 1>Will they make the joking actual people supposed to be <v Speaker 1>very welcoming. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, maybe elaborate that a little in the start, as <v Speaker 4>opposed to just Bart rock in and say, hey, I'm <v Speaker 4>going to enjoy your lambs, Like of course, I just <v Speaker 4>have have the family. So yeah, there's room at the table, <v Speaker 4>come on in. <v Speaker 1>Yeah. Plus it establishes pretty early on well I think <v Speaker 1>they've already done it anyway, but established like shit, they's <v Speaker 1>are good people. Theyse are really nice. Why is Homer <v Speaker 1>being a dick to them? Yeah, but he wasn't dick yet. No, no, yeah, <v Speaker 1>yeah yeah. So then he makes his mom says, I <v Speaker 1>don't know you had the old you didn't your sister <v Speaker 1>blah blah blah, the sistuff whatever it is, invites about <v Speaker 1>to stay for dinner, and then he teaches Bashiah the <v Speaker 1>school rules. <v Speaker 2>Okay, you're new to our schools. So here's the deal. <v Speaker 2>We call skinner skin rash, mister Wiener is mister Weiner, <v Speaker 2>and groundskeeper Willie grounds creeper stupid. <v Speaker 1>Oh that's not clever. We have so many aspects you <v Speaker 1>can mark. <v Speaker 3>I'm poor, I'm dirty, I can't read all right, I <v Speaker 3>think movies are real. <v Speaker 2>Okay. Next, here's the food at the cafeteria that will <v Speaker 2>make you sick. Cole slaw, tuna, all chowders and gumbos. <v Speaker 2>The only thing that's safe is the pork chops. <v Speaker 1>My religion says I can never. <v Speaker 2>Eat pork a different religion. Do not tell anyone that, <v Speaker 2>because if the bully's around, you find out that you're different. <v Speaker 3>Who's different? <v Speaker 1>What's your name? Sweat stain? <v Speaker 2>A bush here? Bash here I love a kid that <v Speaker 2>comes with directions. <v Speaker 1>Then this is where the bullies rock up. And yeah, <v Speaker 1>as we said, I didn't mind how they use them here. <v Speaker 1>They end up beating the shut of each other because <v Speaker 1>of idiots. <v Speaker 4>That's right, because well, what one's Christian, one's Jewish, and <v Speaker 4>one he's in a. <v Speaker 1>Cult, Moe's cult, Keny's mum's banging mo apparently. Yeah, yes, <v Speaker 1>so I didn't think though, that was a nice ad <v Speaker 1>break because before they start doing that, they have the <v Speaker 1>kids like sort of confronting him. They're going to bash <v Speaker 1>him up and his ad break, And I was like, <v Speaker 1>that would keep me around to find out what's going <v Speaker 1>to happen next you get the well, is this going <v Speaker 1>to turn into a very special episode? Yeah, but then <v Speaker 1>obviously bubble things happen. They get away, Sherry and Terry <v Speaker 1>are now about to hate on Lisa, and then they <v Speaker 1>say that you go to mypod and she shows the <v Speaker 1>Moon Dreams and then and then I found I'm like, guys, <v Speaker 1>it's Moon Dreams. What are we doing? We should love <v Speaker 1>this song? Bertha calls a pretty cool album by my <v Speaker 1>man Miles Davis. Yeah, yeah, then my tunes exclusively she <v Speaker 1>is scratchy. So now they're friends with her because she's <v Speaker 1>got the mylah blah blah blah. But I thought, why <v Speaker 1>has no one else got in my pod? Why is <v Speaker 1>Lisa the anyone? It seems like no one else in Springfield, <v Speaker 1>kid wise, one of any Mapple shit, just Lisa. It <v Speaker 1>was just, oh, that's a good point. It was so bizarre. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>if you're going to. <v Speaker 4>Talk about apples everywhere, blah blah blah blah blah, this <v Speaker 4>is a bit of a stretch. But you know, have <v Speaker 4>Lisa at the Mapple shop. I'm sad I can't even <v Speaker 4>afford my phonies. Like there's one rebel Apple store Mapple <v Speaker 4>store employee. <v Speaker 1>Who's like, look, this is new and it's a sample. <v Speaker 4>We can't really give it out, but here you go <v Speaker 4>have this, you know, and maybe he can spread the word, <v Speaker 4>tell them how good. <v Speaker 1>It's like, wow, she's got the latest. <v Speaker 4>One or something like that. Yeah, this is not as <v Speaker 4>good as the other fix its I've come up with <v Speaker 4>this episode. <v Speaker 1>But I don't know, it's just they needed it felt <v Speaker 1>like Lisa was the only one who gave a shit <v Speaker 1>about Mapple. It was so bizarre because she seems to <v Speaker 1>be the last characters should be obsessed with mapple. But yeah, <v Speaker 1>so they've watched the exclusive. She is scratchy. I like <v Speaker 1>itch scratchy. I thought this one was not bad. They're <v Speaker 1>going a bit longer, but I don't mind it that. <v Speaker 1>I'd rather this fellow than have just a random, useless <v Speaker 1>joke filling it up. Oh yeah, yeah, it's relevant to <v Speaker 1>the episode. Homers then changed the light bulbs in the house, <v Speaker 1>throwing the old ones to the backyard, and then basher <v Speaker 1>rocks up. He thinks he's millhouse. He gives his new catchphase, <v Speaker 1>which is John sat with today's Salama legam, which means <v Speaker 1>peace be with you, be with you. Yes, feeling all <v Speaker 1>those lines, yeah, just friendly. <v Speaker 4>Speaks to the commonality of all religions. I mean, growing <v Speaker 4>up Catholic, we have the thing at church where you <v Speaker 4>know we now offer each other sign a piece. He <v Speaker 4>turned the person next and shake your hand and say <v Speaker 4>peace be with you. All the ship's coded throughout all <v Speaker 4>these religions. <v Speaker 1>Why why are we getting bunched up at that being <v Speaker 1>different when they're all the same. We are all the same. <v Speaker 1>But he returns, but Slingshot calls him, sir, I did <v Speaker 1>like the thirty eight waist. Yeah, Nicola thought this was hilarious, <v Speaker 1>believe yeah. But then we get to most This is <v Speaker 1>where the episode takes a real turn. So <v Speaker 1>go ahead and support the show today for as little <v Speaker 1>as just one dollar at patreon dot com slash four <v Speaker 1>finger discount. So Lenny and Car mock Homer for liking Basha, <v Speaker 1>So you can't be trusted. Homers says, well, I need <v Speaker 1>a fictional TV expousing your point of view. We get <v Speaker 1>twenty four just to get Mina on the screen's mean <v Speaker 1>of him. That scene probably is in the background, maybe maybe, <v Speaker 1>but it's just got a Muslim on there, just being <v Speaker 1>a classic TV terror classic, Yeah, done with America, And <v Speaker 1>they tell him to discriminate against his family, invite him <v Speaker 1>over dinner and give Hi the jap Bobo treatment, gets <v Speaker 1>some secrets out of him. So it's time for dinner, <v Speaker 1>and Homer's just being really over the top here. But <v Speaker 1>as you said, when I watched this, I thought this <v Speaker 1>was a bit annoying, but you've sort of you've explained <v Speaker 1>it to me where it wasn't necessarily him being this <v Speaker 1>way until he was convinced by TV and his idiot friends. <v Speaker 1>He's idiotic friends. Yeah, they made it's a little cake <v Speaker 1>char to cut? What Distalina? Not? Now? I got soap <v Speaker 1>in my eyes? No, thank you? What's the matter. <v Speaker 3>Don't like the taste of freedom? <v Speaker 1>Dad? <v Speaker 2>These people are my friends. Don't fear them just because <v Speaker 2>they have a different religion, a different culture, and their <v Speaker 2>last name is bin Laden. <v Speaker 3>Young man, you do not respect us by disrespecting your father. <v Speaker 1>I like the way you Italians think, shit the old man. <v Speaker 1>Then they all leave. Mar Is annoyed because he's being <v Speaker 1>very intolerant. You're teaching your kids a bad example. And <v Speaker 1>as he says, it's just so funny. He's going judge <v Speaker 1>Bilk passon never religion. That feels like a classic Simpsons line. <v Speaker 1>God does. Yeah, so she says, you gotta go apologize, <v Speaker 1>but with a more powerful country for a few more years. <v Speaker 1>And then he's making about to eat the cake. He <v Speaker 1>says he can't get this poison. So Homer arrives to apologize. <v Speaker 1>I'm sorry I suspected you to be solace murderers of <v Speaker 1>innocent children. He looks the window and he sees but <v Speaker 1>she is father with dynamite, and he just assumes for <v Speaker 1>the worst. I think he's gonna blow something up. And <v Speaker 1>why you would have dynamite in the garages. It's all <v Speaker 1>a bit It's almost a fair assumption to make. If <v Speaker 1>someone's got to ship down a DNT. <v Speaker 4>In their garage, it's your job keep it at work. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, it all seems a bit silly. Yeah. Then <v Speaker 1>Marge's reading very regal in bed, and Homer rocks up <v Speaker 1>and he says, everything is what I think people like. <v Speaker 1>Everyone is what I think they are. It's barely regal. <v Speaker 1>Is a pretty funny game, it is. Yeah. Yeah. Then <v Speaker 1>Miss Mahoma has the Aladdin dream and Dan actually is <v Speaker 1>the voice of Gennie in Everything but the Laddin, so <v Speaker 1>he's the return to far I think this is the <v Speaker 1>Ladin TV series. So Dan's just doing his genie. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, and I know he wanted to sort of emulate <v Speaker 4>Ron Wings without doing necessarily an impersonation, But yeah, I <v Speaker 4>was pretty taken with that. I thought it was It <v Speaker 4>felt like a very affectionate piss take of Robin Williams. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, because also meant to be carrying the leg Well true, <v Speaker 1>but it also feels very much like Robin will do <v Speaker 1>that kind of thing. Well, you have to be you <v Speaker 1>have to be Robin, you have to be Yeah. So yeah, yeah, <v Speaker 1>well yeah he does. He does a good genie because <v Speaker 1>when we were kids, we're watching a Laddin TV series <v Speaker 1>just thinking it's just Robin Williams, But no, it was <v Speaker 1>Dan doing this thing. You're robbed. You must like me, <v Speaker 1>you really really like me. God mourning, run my dub. <v Speaker 3>Come crazy for prices? <v Speaker 1>Are Who's se Jenny? You do Flanders? Now? I will <v Speaker 1>destroy your decadent Western society. But then leads it gets <v Speaker 1>the delivery from Mapple Beautiful Packaging and whatnot, but it's <v Speaker 1>a bill for twelve hundred dollars because she's down in <v Speaker 1>a twelve hundred and twelve songs and Homer is by <v Speaker 1>the window and he ever hears the conversation of Beer's <v Speaker 1>parents and as we said earlier, just classic comedy. I <v Speaker 1>really love the I love blowing buildings legally, but there's <v Speaker 1>killing myself. But all for the prophet. That is so <v Speaker 1>well read. For the prophet is great for the property <v Speaker 1>because all the other ones, like off the explosion, I'll <v Speaker 1>be in a better place. I caught her office. I'm like, <v Speaker 1>that's all ridiculous. But they killing myself all for the prophet. <v Speaker 1>I'm like, that's good. That is very good. Then he <v Speaker 1>knocks on the door to apologize because the father's left, <v Speaker 1>and he says, I just want to know come saying hello, <v Speaker 1>blah blah Blah's gon an rumih to the house. Praise <v Speaker 1>be Oliver as he says, what do you think of <v Speaker 1>the so now that he's gone death to America? Right, <v Speaker 1>it's a bit stupid, it's a bit on the note. Yeah. <v Speaker 1>But then he finds the leftop I'm in and he <v Speaker 1>sees the folder for the Springfield more that's going to <v Speaker 1>be blown up. Blah blah blah. And then he I <v Speaker 1>hated this next bit where she goes because he said, <v Speaker 1>I'm going to go grind up some almonds or whatever. <v Speaker 1>She doesn't sound like you're grinding up any almonds. And <v Speaker 1>he just does it. It's just dan Impropitt, but it <v Speaker 1>just went forever I've heard my thumb oh oh, and <v Speaker 1>then actually does it does the ambulance sound, and it <v Speaker 1>actually does do this something when he goes out the window. <v Speaker 1>When he goes out the window, yeah, home, and then <v Speaker 1>tells everyone at the moor to get out. And I'm <v Speaker 1>first watching this going no one's getting out. Then I thought, <v Speaker 1>you know, what if I'm in basically Plaza or Westfield <v Speaker 1>and some guy runs past, goes get out of here. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>I'm getting Eddy. Why a chance safe than sorry? Sure? <v Speaker 1>And across the road to Market Square. Yeah, everyone, nothing's <v Speaker 1>happening there. No, no, nothing bad is happening there at all. <v Speaker 1>So then he says to Patty and someone like you <v Speaker 1>stay because a part of the dvs in the mall <v Speaker 1>now whatever. So he runs across, blows up the thinks <v Speaker 1>I'm gonna blow up the mall. He grabs the dynamite, <v Speaker 1>ends up They're going to blop the old mall. That's <v Speaker 1>what Bart's doing because he thinks sees Bat with the <v Speaker 1>plunger whatever it is, and he ends up trying it <v Speaker 1>and blows up the bridge, which is the bridge to <v Speaker 1>the Duff Brewery, and he realizes, oh shit, because all <v Speaker 1>the cars, the truck start crashing, goes into the water. <v Speaker 1>Lee's Hans moment, and the driver's seat goes and gets <v Speaker 1>some beer away. It's Han's moment. He's expendable, that's true. <v Speaker 1>And then he invites them over for dinner to apologize <v Speaker 1>the pardon for my part of mind tolerance on the banner. <v Speaker 1>It's come for good use over the years, as he says, <v Speaker 1>And Lisa is gone something Mapple should be gone for <v Speaker 1>a month, and I was like, this is even have <v Speaker 1>a good ending for this story, Like it's just it's <v Speaker 1>so lazy. Okay, how is she getting there? I don't know. <v Speaker 1>She borrowed a James Cameron's Lisa. She said something to <v Speaker 1>do A Mapple should be back in a month, and <v Speaker 1>I'm like, that's a long time for an eight year <v Speaker 1>old to be gone. No one realized she was gone. <v Speaker 1>It's just stupid. Do you think they needed to Maybe <v Speaker 1>it is, I mean the story was stupid, right, but <v Speaker 1>they needed a reason to have Lisa away from all <v Speaker 1>this ridiculousness so she could be the one saying Dad <v Speaker 1>what are you doing Bart was kind of doing here. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>I don't know. It's just there was. <v Speaker 4>Some really some good ideas, Yeah, that weren't properly fleshed out. <v Speaker 1>It just feels like an opening act kind of thing <v Speaker 1>to set up a main story, not an entire sub story. <v Speaker 1>But anyway, it's what is. It is what it is. <v Speaker 1>But he says no slogan says, think definitely, But it's <v Speaker 1>actually no refunds. So he says, you're not going to <v Speaker 1>get any refunds, but you can work for us, and <v Speaker 1>she's just going to be the sales chick on the street. <v Speaker 1>And that's the end of the episode. That is the <v Speaker 1>end of the episode. In indeed, it's all in all, <v Speaker 1>it was nowhere near as bad as I remembered it being. <v Speaker 1>Just felt dated. I really didn't like the mipod stuff. <v Speaker 1>I just felt dated and whatever. But the way they <v Speaker 1>handled the Basher family and the bin Laden family should say, <v Speaker 1>and Homer being the oblivious idiot, I didn't mind it. <v Speaker 1>I had some moments where it felt a bit over <v Speaker 1>the top and ridiculous, but it's a TV colity, You're <v Speaker 1>going to have those moments. And I just thought overall, <v Speaker 1>they they handled it quite well. Yeah, look it's a <v Speaker 1>solid idea. <v Speaker 4>It's coming to the table a little late, and what <v Speaker 4>they brought to the table was kind of like, Eh, <v Speaker 4>this platter is a little unwieldy, and not everybody likes <v Speaker 4>this food, but their heart was in the right place. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, what do we learn, Bomber? So what did you <v Speaker 1>learn from this episode? Danno? I learned that even wooden <v Speaker 1>reindeers are animals too. They have feelings, don't put it. <v Speaker 1>What did I learn? I learned how Dane cook felt. <v Speaker 1>Yeah I did. I'm Dane Cooking year twelve. We used <v Speaker 1>to listened to him religiously, like we love the guy. <v Speaker 1>We thought it was hilarious. I went back and listened <v Speaker 1>to that same stand up a year ago. I went, <v Speaker 1>there's one bit that I think is really good, but <v Speaker 1>the rest of it is just yeah, chicks man, Yeah, <v Speaker 1>my dear, Yeah, And you're like. <v Speaker 4>I can't say I've got a problem with any of it. <v Speaker 1>From day forward, your name will be It's time for <v Speaker 1>the Guy Davis New Name Championship for season twenty.
