Sports Radio Monday, October the twenty first time Matt Jones here. It's chos Bar and grill at Chili, but nice Monday morning after an interesting UK sports weekend. You can give a shout Clark's Puppa Shop full nine eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven Ricks in Studio ready to go. We got Rick all week. You excited about that? Rick? Oh? Absolutely good day. Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. This edition sponsored by the T J. Smith Law. It's called TJ. He'll make them pay. It is got people here for today from Science Hill, Danville in the house today and we want to talk about today. Well, I mean there are like two main things. I think it's pretty clear football game and blue white game. If you remember last week we had the same thing. We decided to lead with Ritt Patino at Madness. I think for this one, football is the bigger story and we'll get to the blue white thing later. But the Cats get absolutely annihilated in Florida forty eight to twenty, just kind of like the South Carolina game. It got out of hand at the end, but Kentucky was still behind the whole game. Pretty terrible loss. I mean the fan base after the game, I thought handled it the I mean like I mean, I think fans there are some fans that are past the breaking point, but there's a lot that are getting closer than I thought could happen this year. 00:02:02 Speaker 3: And you know, it's pretty down time. 00:02:05 Speaker 2: For the program. I think would be the best way to say it. A lot of things that were frustrating all year wear themselves again. Inability on a pretty bad defense to score enough points, inability to make big stops, terrible clock management at times, and just an overall very round disappointing performance. 00:02:24 Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that the fan base is bordering on getting a little toxic now because this was supposed to be a three game stretch. 00:02:30 Speaker 2: The online fan base is top is toxic. I don't get the sense that the fan base as a whole is yet, But I also don't think they're like that far away. Yeah, that's fair. 00:02:41 Speaker 4: This was supposed to be a three game stretch where Kentucky football is gonna turn it around. Beat Vandy, beat Florida, beat Auburn. And yet now only did you lose to Vandy in Florida, you got punked, I mean, you got slugged, and it was an awful performance. 00:02:55 Speaker 2: It just seems like crazy. Just a couple weeks ago, we're talking about. 00:02:57 Speaker 4: A chance to go to the playoffs, and now we're talking about a turn where this this loss could be where the fan base turns against for the first time against our code. 00:03:06 Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I think you're now drew like odds are. It's more likely than not you don't make a ball. I mean, you can still make it, and there's a very reasonable path. But I still think if you were a betting man, what's I mean, would you right now bet it's more likely we beat Auburn and Louisville or lose one of them. 00:03:24 Speaker 5: Oh, it's more like you. You're more likely that you lose one of them. I went into this year kind of expecting they would win their home games, beat Florida or Louisville and steps with Tippy's cap and say it's been a good ride. 00:03:36 Speaker 2: That's kind of what I thought. 00:03:38 Speaker 5: Now I'm with everyone else wondering what's next. And I did not foresee being zero and three at home, losing three games as the betting favorite. I mean that Old miss was huge, But does anyone really care about that right now because it's been so bad and your losses and games you should have won. 00:03:52 Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's right. I mean, I think it's been It's really kind of been an embarrassment, especially, you know, at the end of the day comes down to this. Mark Stoops built this program on Mark Stoops built this program on beating South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Missouri most years, and sometimes Florida. That's how we built the program. We played those four schools and we pretty consistently beat them, and we have now lost to all of them. Missouri's not on our schedule we've lost all of them. That's a downslide. Now are those programs better? Yeah, but you gotta be better too, you know, I mean because you built it. This program was built on that, it really was, and then in the last few years it was taken to another level by also beating Louisville as well. That's what made Kentucky football a different program. And now we've lost all of them and you can't help I think, Ryan, but feel that. 00:04:53 Speaker 4: We all feel it absolutely. And we were a better program. I felt like last couple of years than Florida, we were a better program. Vanderbilt well after they come in and just punk you like that and beat not only beat you, but beat you pretty bad, keep you out of the end. I don't know what our problem is with offense, man, I've been talking to people trying to figure it out, but we cannot fight. 00:05:12 Speaker 2: We just can't punch it in the end zone. Yeah, we can't. And you know, the offensive line, which is bad, was a little bit better on Saturday, but it doesn't seem to matter. 00:05:23 Speaker 4: It just seems like, yeah, you know, they graded pretty high, believe it or not. 00:05:27 Speaker 2: I don't think they played that bad Saturday. I don't think our offensive line is good, and I think it requires us to have to do other things. I think Bush. You know, when you listen to Mark Stoops Mark Stoops, it's weird because he almost like it doesn't seem like he blames Bush Hamden at all, because he'll be like, well he got Delta A. I mean they all but say, we just have some dudes that aren't good, right, Yeah. 00:05:56 Speaker 5: I mean I think Bush made some pretty big mistakes in play calling. But I mean when you hit Barry on Brown on the chest and it pops in the air and the guy takes it down to card, I mean, that's not on the play call. 00:06:07 Speaker 2: Now, but then he got it back. 00:06:09 Speaker 5: But I mean those are the mistakes that I mean, you can have your Bush complaints, but when you're hitting a guy in the numbers and that happens, that's just on execution. 00:06:15 Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that that sequence, by the way, that's the Barry and Brown experience. Yes, it goes through your hand, touchdown almost the other way. 00:06:25 Speaker 3: Next play, ninety nine yard kick to the house. 00:06:28 Speaker 2: Like if you if you want to, like if we're looking back at Barry On Brown's career, those two plays are pretty unfortunately pretty symbolic. 00:06:35 Speaker 5: I had so many texts kas board. You're seeing tweets. I'm doing baryon Brown. It's been fun. Get him out of here. Seconds later everyone's delegue. 00:06:43 Speaker 2: Whoops. 00:06:43 Speaker 5: There he is. That's what he does. That's what he does, by the way, amazing run back. 00:06:48 Speaker 2: I mean, he now has the SEC record for most kick returns in a year, and he's like two away from the NCAA record. 00:06:55 Speaker 4: I'm to the point now too. Why not let him return punts? I mean that's his one dangerous weapon. There's like no listing the workload. What's the workload when you're only. 00:07:02 Speaker 2: Catching like no offense, it's like the other guy can't catch it because he'll just let I'm with you, like the idea we're saving him, saving him for what? Yeah? I mean, like what are we saving him for. He's not a whether it's him, whether it's Brock, whether it's a play calling where it's the offensive line. He's not a consistent weapon on offense. I know he's great at that. I know he's maybe the best person we've had since Derrick Abney at it. Let him go, let him go, put him back there. 00:07:27 Speaker 4: Why you worry about the workload when he's all you're running is a jet sweep. 00:07:30 Speaker 2: That work doesn't work the jets. The jet sweep is becoming the new Joker Phillips screen like like it's just never gonna work, and we're still doing. 00:07:40 Speaker 5: He's a he's a kick return specialist. You just say, he's about to say n c W records, that should be his workload. 00:07:46 Speaker 2: If you have one of the. 00:07:46 Speaker 5: Best to ever do it, shouldn't it'll be. 00:07:49 Speaker 2: He's very changing. There's a good chance he's gonna be in All American again. He's already been at once. There's gonna be a decent chance he's gonna be that again in kick returning. And so let him punt, Like what are we waiting? All right? So what what's much more interesting to me going forward? We talked a lot about the game on Saturday on the postgame is is kind of what the program is right now. 00:08:13 Speaker 3: You know, if you were to only go online, you would think. 00:08:16 Speaker 2: This fan base is just done. And I have to remember to myself the people I see, especially on Twitter, that's not the whole fan base, because it's like that's loud. Like if you go on line, especially on Twitter, people are like get out. So I try to remember the postgame show then immediately takes me back to reality because on the postgame show a lot of those people are season ticket holders who whatever you know, are just and then they're not. They're not there. So my question to you is where do you think we are? Like, does and and do the next few games change anything? Do you think four and eight and six and six are different? I will tell you in my mind, four and eight and say and six are pretty different, huge different. Yeah, but where are they to? 00:09:05 Speaker 4: I think they're teetering on Like that was kind of a pivotal game that lost to Florida, and the way they played and the way they got b was a pivotal game, I think for a lot of fans, and I think a lot of fans now realize that the Jet the possibility of not making a Bowl game is absolutely real, which is something has almost been unthinkable the last seven, eight, nine years. 00:09:24 Speaker 5: I mean, the record is bad enough by itself, but the way they're losing is just so hard. I mean, they're they're not fun. They're Iowa football without actually winning the game. I mean they're not scoring, they're playing good defense, but in the end they're losing, I would at least has you a good record you can hang on to sue. When you have an offense that hasn't scored twenty one points, you have huge, huge problems. 00:09:44 Speaker 2: But usually when you have an offense like that, you go, we just had we are quarterback. We still have a quarterback. But what's frustrating is I feel like we do have a decent quarterback. I don't think he's great, but I also don't think he's terrible. Like this isn't like after Will Levis got hurt, where you kind of felt like, I don't know what we're supposed to do, right, Yeah, this. 00:10:05 Speaker 3: Is different and yet nothing and so I I, you know. 00:10:14 Speaker 2: I just I don't. It's this year is baffling to me, how bad they've been. And so now I don't know how you go forward. You even if you wanted to fire Mark Stoops, which let me be clear, I don't want to do and I'm not saying is the. 00:10:29 Speaker 3: Right dec is, But even if you wanted to, you can't. 00:10:34 Speaker 2: You know, I heard that the Solid Verbal podcast said it's biot is four million dollars. That's not true. His biot's four million dollars the other way. Does that make sense, which means if he wanted to leave to go somewhere else, he would have to pay four millions. I see, we have to pay him forty four million dollars. And it's and and again people don't understand contracts. It's not that there's a cause that says you have to pay him forty four million dollars. It is that he has owed forty four million dollars through the rest of his contract. And the people say, well, why. 00:11:08 Speaker 3: Do you have that. That's what a contract is. 00:11:13 Speaker 2: I mean, a contract is we agree to pay you this amount of money and you can't just get out of it because they're not good right, Yes, I mean otherwise if that were the case, they would just be an at will employee. The reason coaches signed contracts is it guarantees them that amount of money. Mitch Barnhardt didn't do anything abnormal signing Mark Stoops to a contract. It's not like they put in a clause that said you owe him forty four million dollars if he got If he gets fired, he's owed forty four million dollars because that's what's left on his contract. The issue is he makes a lot of money, and we signed him for a lot of years. But Brian, it is what it is when and when when to like to fire him, you would have to either get him to agree to like twenty five million dollars today which we don't have, or to agree to like forego money. He's guaranteed he's not gonna do that. No, So that's why I don't think those conversations are reasonable. 00:12:20 Speaker 4: Mark Stoops has done things here at the UK football program. We've all said that I didn't think it'd ever be done. I want him to be my coach. I want him to be the coach here. 00:12:29 Speaker 2: But something is just not right right now with the pro What do you think it is? I mean you probably like you probably hear more or closer to the that than anyone in the media. 00:12:41 Speaker 4: I mean, what do you think I talk to a guy driving in this morning and trying we were trying to both answer that question because usually stoops teams are are tough and they fight and they punch back. Well, for whatever reason, we got guys, you know, not kind of taking plays off, some of our star players, taking some play off and that you just can't do that, especially when you're playing in the SEC. 00:13:02 Speaker 2: What do you mean by taking the plays off? 00:13:04 Speaker 4: Well, you know, it's been kind of put out there that you'll see maybe a guy quit on his route or not run his route, and maybe a defensive lineman maybe take a couple of plays off, you know, and not do things. 00:13:15 Speaker 5: I mean, you can say Dion's name. There were a few times Dion didn't really do anything when he was in the game, just kind of stood up. 00:13:23 Speaker 4: Yeah, and I know in our quarterback play hasn't been great, and I know people are gonna try to pick on the offensive line, but they graded pretty well against Florida. 00:13:32 Speaker 2: Surprisingly they were they were better. Yes, they were better Saturday, but it doesn't seem to matter. It just doesn't seem to matter. And I I don't know. They are bafflingly bad, you know. 00:13:44 Speaker 4: And what we've had now, what is this the fifth SEC game? Yeah, we've had six touchdowns, only six and one of those was a kick return and one was a funnel we fell on in the end zone. 00:13:54 Speaker 2: No, we've had a counting though, six offensive touch that's what it is. Six offensive touchdowns in five game. Got to the goal line again, Okay, we got to talk about that. How can two weeks in a row. 00:14:07 Speaker 4: We got it inside the five on first down and come away with zero points because we Here's what I'd like people to do. 00:14:14 Speaker 2: You want to know what they answer to that question. Yes, one is we don't have a guaranteed offensive line that gets you one or two yards. That hurts us. 00:14:21 Speaker 3: But the second is creative play calling. 00:14:24 Speaker 2: Go watch Kansas City in the red zone sometime and watch what Andy Reid does. 00:14:31 Speaker 5: Now. 00:14:31 Speaker 2: Of course they have my homes that's different. He can do all kinds of stuff. But they got guys running. Yesterday, they had a play where they had like both quarterbacks in at the same time and you didn't know which one was gonna get snapped the ball. They do such creative things. We don't do anything creative ever inside the goal line ever. And this isn't like Benny Snell in the Big Blue Wall where you could just run it straight ahead. Yep, we can't do that. And the other teams know it. They know it's not gonna be create and we're just stuck. We are. I almost would rather see us be on the fifteen than inside the five. We got a better chance to score. 00:15:07 Speaker 5: You're right, we didn't even bully him very well because trip train UM's got twenty five pounds on Demy and we put Demi in. 00:15:14 Speaker 2: I mean, why are you running quarterback sneaks with Brock Vandergrift, Gavin Wims. It's clearly the one to do that with. 00:15:20 Speaker 4: And we're running out of defensive lineman that weighed four hundred and fifty pounds. 00:15:23 Speaker 2: He did not weigh four due that dude, what are you? Are you yokozuna? 00:15:27 Speaker 5: No, Ryan's right, that guy is, yes, it might be four to twenty five. He's right at it. That guy is enormous. I don't know how he even gets up and down. 00:15:36 Speaker 2: So he's plugging a hole, just sitting there, just sitting down. Yeah, and we go right on. He did well. Hey, twenty two eighty seven, we'll take your calls. What do you think I want to talk about the Blue White game? Uh? 00:15:50 Speaker 3: And also that I'm gonna let them make fun of me. 00:15:52 Speaker 2: My lock of the week, Poor Billy's on Ramen Noodles. All was unlocked, and it was unlocked a kind of a sad one. We'll take a break in beer at bags. Kentucky Sports Radio. 00:16:03 Speaker 3: Welcome back. 00:16:04 Speaker 2: It is Kentucky Sports Radio. I fight five nine two twenty two eighty seven. I didn't know we were back there. Rick, Well, I guess you didn't hear me. Okay, that's true. How was your weekend? Did you watch the game? Uh? No, I was out and about. 00:16:19 Speaker 4: My wife kept me hopping with the uh honey to do list all weekend. 00:16:23 Speaker 2: Oh okay, honey to do list. I understand a couple of things. One person rights, Matt. We have twenty five million dollars a year and it's SEC revenue sharing. How could we not be able to pay a contract because you know what, they use that money for other things. How do you think we pay for every other sport? I mean the reality is we know you you should not. I mean everybody should know this. Football pays for every sport, everything, every sport. At UK, we're lucky that basketball makes us money. At most conferences, basketball loses you money. But at UK we have actually two sources of revenue. But it pays for every other sport. It pays for the entire athletics department, it pays for the coaching salaries, it pays for everything. So it's not like it just sits there and everybody takes it. UK is one of the only schools in America that doesn't take any of your tax dollars for sports. I think that's a huge testament to UK Athletics and to Mitch Barnhart, because almost every other school takes money from the general fund into their sports. 00:17:26 Speaker 3: UK does not. 00:17:27 Speaker 2: But because of that, you end up with a situation where the money is budgeted. You just don't have ryan unlimited funds. 00:17:35 Speaker 4: Yeah, and you know, a Kentucky we're kind of blessed. We play in the SEC, so there's a lot of income that comes in from these SEC home games. 00:17:42 Speaker 2: But there are SEC schools that take from their general funds. Yeah, I mean we don't. That's you know. Do you think the money thing? 00:17:50 Speaker 4: Some of it came out people upset because of this week the list came out and Stoops as well, ninth on the top. 00:17:55 Speaker 2: I think there's no doubt that if you look at the list, Stoops is the ninth highest paid coach in America. Drew and the other eight really good like that's and I think honestly Stoops kind of if you look at his past and the fact that it's Kentucky, it makes sense. 00:18:10 Speaker 3: But it doesn't make sense right now with the way they're playing. 00:18:13 Speaker 5: Yeah, when you see that social media graphic that went out last week and you look at the records of those other teams, it looks crazy. But when you think about and also all it's like all SEC coaches right pay I mean, drink Witz is right below Stoops. It's SEC. You gotta pay more, Kentucky, you gotta pay more. When a guy's been there twelve years, he's eventually getting rewarded and gonna have a high. 00:18:30 Speaker 3: And the other thing is, for years I said this on the postgame show. 00:18:33 Speaker 2: For years, longtime UK football fans said, we don't invest in football, that's why we don't win. Okay, well now they're investing in football, and then you go, we're investing too much anyway. I mean it's kind of a no win situation. You gotta win the games. But it's been here fifteen or twelve years. Like he's gonna get paid that amount of money. 00:18:53 Speaker 5: I'm not defending him on that. Look though, he should be doing much better than. 00:18:56 Speaker 2: What it is. 00:18:56 Speaker 5: This is, Yeah, I even if we had that money laying a no, I just I thought this before the year. There isn't a lot left in that Stoops tank. I think it'd be a waste to pay him out anyway. I don't think he's staying here much longer on his own, regardless of results. 00:19:10 Speaker 2: And I think part of the frustration is this is not a we don't have the talent. These are not we don't have the talent losses. These are we went and got the talent, and we're losing the teams that don't have as much. And that's why I think it's so head scratching. 00:19:25 Speaker 4: Nobody has a real answer, like what is going on with this football team this year to not have the fight in getting well? 00:19:32 Speaker 3: Do you think there's a locker room issue? 00:19:34 Speaker 2: I honestly haven't heard that there is. I haven't heard that there is either. Normally you would hear that, so I'm not saying there isn't, but I have not heard that. And I will tell you this in football, first of all, basketball locker room issues come out and there's only a handful of people in there. In football, that's a huge room. And if there's a locker room issue, somebody's gonna leak it out. Andrew, I have not heard it. R not hurt it. I don't think you've heard well. 00:20:01 Speaker 5: I think there's an issue overall, and it's an ongoing just culture thing. But I don't think there's like a certain guy or anyone any you know, specific problems. I am starting to wonder if this model of getting these high end transfers and put them together for one year, if it does hurt the culture in the locker room when you have so many guys just thrown together, you don't have a lot of continuity. But I don't know if anything specific. 00:20:22 Speaker 2: The other teams do that. 00:20:23 Speaker 5: That's what I'm saying. I'm just wondering, if you know, retaining guys does matter, and I wonder if you have so many like we. 00:20:30 Speaker 2: Don't have any more than everybody else does. 00:20:31 Speaker 5: I mean, I mean, I'm saying when Cash Daniel tweet a week or they're not a leader. I'm just saying, we have so many new guys, someone's getting probably not stepping up. 00:20:38 Speaker 2: I mean, I understand Cash tweeted that, but at the same time Cash played at a different time. Like again, you can't win at Kentucky without taking transfers. So just like I was saying about Tony Bittt, if the transfer thing's not working, you gotta make it work, you know what. I mean you don't have you don't have an ability to go, oh, well, this transfer thing's killing. No, you gotta make it work. If you don't make it work, we're not gonna win in twenty twenty four. 00:21:04 Speaker 4: Let me let me ask you this then, because I heard Max say this this morning on the pre show with Billy. He said, Kentucky Stoop built the program on kind of good recruiting and developing their own recruits. Do you think they've gotten away a little bit from that? 00:21:16 Speaker 2: Yes, because they have to. What would this team be without Dumas John Zy? Okay, what would this team be without Max Harston? What would this team be without our quarterback? Our quarterback? Like? Do Demi Sumo karmbat yea right? Like we have to do that. We can't sit there and act. I mean, now is our development not as good? I think that's a completely fair question to ask. Why have we not developed a better offensive lineman? And why have we not? Fair question? And that but the idea that like, well, I mean it's hurting the chemistry. Well maybe, but you better get used to it because every single team in the country is doing it. And if we don't do it, we're gonna just get killed. Because the thing about the transfer. 00:21:59 Speaker 3: Port it takes the mistakes you made. 00:22:02 Speaker 2: In recruiting and fixes them. 00:22:04 Speaker 4: Yeah, you can correct it by getting one transfer to come in. If you missed out on a cornerback, go out and get a cornerback. 00:22:09 Speaker 2: But I think we're seeing Drew with the offensive line that maybe there were some either big mistakes or bad development. 00:22:15 Speaker 5: Well with the line, specifically three of their biggest recruits, I mean they just whiffed on. You get a Grant Bingam who's not even on the team, and more County good ones not both those guys aren't playing football anymore. And when you got them, those were gonna be some some centerpieces of your line moving forward. So they had two or three years of just not recruiting the line well, and now you're seeing how that panned out. 00:22:34 Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it is weird that sometimes our biggest flameouts in recruiting are in state. Guys are the top if you think about I mean, I'm not gonna listen their names, but think about our biggest star rated recruits that flamed out, A lot of them are from this state. Now, we've had some great ones from the state that hasn't been an issue. We'll take a break. Take your calls, Berry Backs Kentucky Sports Radio. We're go back Techi Sports Radio. I mean again, I gotta be careful about this because you know whatever, Yeah, don't film this, Mario. I mean, this is not a social media and considering considering some of my secondary gigs. But what was happening? I mean, the cameras couldn't keep track of the play. At one point there was a sequence I don't know if everyone was drunk. It looked to me like we were two yards shore of the first down and the announcer goes Vandergriff easily gets the first down, and then I thought it was fourth and two, and it was somehow first and ten, but the yard marker seemed to suggest it was first and four and Ryan, I don't know what happened. I mean, they had every down on the screen. It was just it was a disaster and it looked like the camera people were all drunk. 00:24:25 Speaker 4: It looks like stuff I see when I go to a freshman football game when you got dads running the camera and dads you and the yard markers, but everything was off. If there was a play downfield, you were not gonna see it because they couldn't keep up with the ball. 00:24:37 Speaker 2: I mean, it looked like someone was doing it that's never watched football. Like they were like somebody told them just stay with the ball, and they would just stay and then the received the ball'd be up in the air and they'd be like, Okay, where'd it go? 00:24:49 Speaker 3: Did they throw it backwards? Did they throw it in the stands. 00:24:53 Speaker 5: It was bizarre, no downfield vision from our camera. Man, if the ball was thrown farther the tender yard, get it at home, you'll just have to find out whenever he gets down there. Because he could not follow anything down past. 00:25:05 Speaker 2: And if it was a punt like it might still be up in the air as far as we know, like they just it was awful. 00:25:11 Speaker 4: You were right too about the first down, yard mark or something was all that happened. 00:25:14 Speaker 2: I still don't know what happened on those plays. It was first and ten, then it was like third and seven. Brock runs it for what looked to me to be five yards, so I thought it was fourth and two, and I said to myself, well, this is the game right here. And then they just gave him a first down, and then all of a sudden, on the screen it was second down and third down and nothing had happened the yardage thing. I don't know who messed up, because the yardage thing still had him needing two yards and they said it was first down. Then he runs for five yards and they go, well, he gets the first down, but I thought we already had the first down. I still don't know what happened. Don't either. Going on, I don't either. 00:25:56 Speaker 5: It was in the SEC network's fault, but I also didn't like that Florida was allowed to just call their own touchdown. Is that a new I mean shot the fireworks so the reff was like, well, fireworks are going off, lights are off. I guess I guess it's a touch. 00:26:08 Speaker 2: I'm putting that on the SEC network too, because I did see a First of all, they should have blown it dead, so he should have not been in because it was blown. 00:26:16 Speaker 5: Dead, especially after the one earlier in the game. 00:26:18 Speaker 2: But he didn't blow it dead. So I did see an angle where a newspaper reporter has it to where the ball is out and he's not on the ground yet, which I. 00:26:29 Speaker 3: Guess is what that referee saw. 00:26:31 Speaker 2: But how did the SEC network not have any camera angle that showed that they were shooting it through an iPhone two on the opposite side. 00:26:41 Speaker 4: We didn't see one angle that showed the ball across the bad It wasn't one angle that showed the runner. 00:26:46 Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm serious. And there wasn't one angle where you could even see who had the ball. 00:26:53 Speaker 4: Even the announcers I think were really confused. They've said that every everything they were seeing. I think the announcers thought it was the second core or the way. 00:27:01 Speaker 2: He was like. 00:27:02 Speaker 5: They're probably mad at the cameraman too. 00:27:03 Speaker 2: Oh they have to be. I'm not blaming I didn't know who those two guys were. I'm not blaming them, I'm just saying, like it was a disaster. 00:27:10 Speaker 4: I could ask you one more thing about the game. We should have known something was up when the first time Ja mary On Willcox carries the ball. 00:27:16 Speaker 2: Your shoe came off? 00:27:17 Speaker 3: How did his shoe come on? Unbelievable, Like I'd stepped away. 00:27:20 Speaker 2: And when somebody I heard them talking about the shoe, I was like, did he really lose his shoe after a first carry? 00:27:26 Speaker 5: First? 00:27:26 Speaker 2: Apparently they taped them on after that? Well, is he not allowed to tie them? 00:27:30 Speaker 5: Why wouldn't you take if if I went through what Wilcox went through last week where I am just made fun of all week long, after my coach calls me out publicly, I go to the trainer before the game and say, three rolls of tape on each foot, tape this thing to my leg where I cannot. 00:27:44 Speaker 2: Get it all, and he loses his shoe. We should have known then, as Mike Myers says, who loses a shoe? Nobody? It was up first? Rick Brandon is up first. Brandon go ahead? 00:27:57 Speaker 6: Hey guys, Yeah, in a perfect world, you know, maybe Soups retires and then we can go after John summer Off. But I don't even think that would be the case because I believe that the first person that Barnheart would offer the job too is probably Brad White. So I say, if we finished, if we. 00:28:19 Speaker 2: Had had a good year, then I think you're right. I think Stoops would have retired. I think Drew and I are in agreement with on this. If this year had gone well, I think Stoops would retire and Brad White would get the job. I think everybody again online that just assumes it's going to be John Summraw, I wouldn't assume that. I would assume that there's a very good chance it'll be Brad White. But now if we go four and eight, Brandon, I'm not sure he can hire Brad White on the on the staff where we go four. 00:28:47 Speaker 6: And a, well, if we've learned anything that Barnhart doesn't give a hoop what the fans think. 00:28:53 Speaker 2: So I don't have that. Why do you say that? I mean, I'm not trying. I've been very critical of Barnhart over here, But when you say it doesn't give a hoot, I mean, well, why do you say that? 00:29:05 Speaker 6: Well, as as much as we are a fan of the Mark Pope higher right now. We weren't big fans of it when it happens. But I mean, who. 00:29:14 Speaker 2: Thinks that you have? Who else would you have had Mitch Barnhart higher? I told you he wasn't allowed to hire a number of guys tried to hire Danny Hurley and Scott Drew. Who else would you have had him hire? 00:29:26 Speaker 6: I wouldn't say this now, but at the time I would have brother had the Florida coach. But I'm a big fan of Mark Pope. I hope that he does great. I just don't think that Miss Barnhart's to be in charge of making any more higher. I think it's time. 00:29:38 Speaker 2: I appreciate, appreciate the call, and I you know, I think he probably will retire soon. I'm not sure. Mike White, who didn't win at Georgia and hasn't really yet won at Florida Todd Golden, I'm sorry, what am I talking about? It's the other way around Florida and Georgia. Todd Golden, but how did he? How did Florida do last year? They did well? 00:29:56 Speaker 5: I made a top ten. I actually had Todd goldenhead of Mark Pope. So I can't argue with the caller. You all your Todd Golden consistent. 00:30:06 Speaker 4: Is there another person on the current staff that would be considered a year or you don't? 00:30:11 Speaker 2: You know? Yes, I mean I think he'd be considered. This is this is not within a lot of it depends on how this year finishes. I think it's gonna be hard for them just to point a dude from a staff that went four and eight. 00:30:30 Speaker 5: Bear, especially when elite defense. I mean, they still have games play. They've had some great games, but if they keep showing some holes or give up forty eight points again. 00:30:38 Speaker 2: I mean, I will say, whoever the coach is, they can hire Drew as the coach. UK will try to keep certainly Vince Merrow and almost certainly Brad Watt no matter what happens. But I don't know how that affects. I have long assumed that then that the leader in the clubhouse for Mitch Warren Barnart would be Brad White. But I think if they finished four and eight, that's going to enter into the discussion. I just did, and I think John Summraw is someone that he really likes, but everybody just assumes that's the next step. I think that's your projecting your wishes more than how that ad over there thinks, which ultimately is who makes that decision? Right, Who's next Jay? And Lyndon is next Jay? And Lindon go ahead? 00:31:29 Speaker 7: Man, All these years ago, you and I are the one thing we agreed on was Stoup's was the right guy for the hire. And if you look back at his legacy eight Bowl games in a row, two ten to three seasons, absolutely owning U of L. In the midst of some tough seasons when Drew Barker and Terry Wilson went down, the coaching was good enough to get as good results. 00:31:51 Speaker 2: True. 00:31:52 Speaker 7: I think the last thing, even when we've had a bad season like twenty twenty where we were five and six, the blowout win at Tennessee stands out of the hell. I still go watch some of that game on YouTube. But the troubling and alarming thing the last three years, and I don't even think you can argue this, is we've lost seven to eight games, Yeah, against teams with less talent than we have. 00:32:14 Speaker 2: I think that's a great point. I think that's a great point. I mean, if you were making the case, and I appreciate the call Jay, good to hear from you for why Stoops was so good In the early years, we were competitive against teams that oftentimes we didn't have business being competitive against, but we were whether we won or not. We rarely got blown out. We'd usually get blown out once a year, but otherwise the games were we were in them, they were exciting. And then we won some games that we shouldn't or team we beat teams we were better than. That's not really what's happened last few years. We've been blown out a bunch. We've got a bunch of games where we've gotten blown out on the field and we've been beaten. I think Jay says by seven. I'll take his word with it, but a number of teams drew that we have more talent then. 00:32:54 Speaker 5: Yeah. The identity is just so different from when Stoops was building this. You know, you're normally underdog, and they're saying why not, We're gonna punch in the mouth. You're gonna know you played Kentucky whether we win or not. You know a lot of get your lunch pal and go to work attitude. Now we're seeing taunting down fourteen guys, popping guys in the back, of the head. It's just not the identity. I remember when this was all coming together years ago. 00:33:17 Speaker 4: You were, to back up Jay's point, you were a better program than South Carolina. You were a better program than Bandy, and you were a better program than Florida. 00:33:25 Speaker 2: And you're a better program than Missouri back then. 00:33:27 Speaker 4: And this year they beat not only beat you all three games, they whooped you in all three other game. 00:33:32 Speaker 2: They weren't even close in those three games. I would also say one more thing about the whole the portal and all that the portal is helping programs that have no business being where the game days at Indiana next week. Right, the portal is helping, like the portal should be great for us, Like it is helping teams like us all over the country. And we need to be one of those teams, right we just we do. And to go back for a second about Mitch hires, I don't think most people could have predicted any of Mitch's hires, like the idea that everybody knows. I mean maybe Joker, but like Billy Gillespie kind of came from nowhere. Cal was not who people thought he was gonna hire, right, Mark Stoops kind of came from nowhere. Most people didn't even know who that was when it was hired. 00:34:24 Speaker 4: So you can even throw Rich Brooks in that mix. When Mitch right, I mean we almost hired Bill Parcells, who had that. 00:34:31 Speaker 2: On their radar, right, Mark Pope. I don't think a lot of people thought that was gonna be where it was, So you he's not easy to predict, in part because he doesn't leak, and Joe, he does not leak, I mean he is he The public only finds out for Mitch what Mitch wants them to find out. That's not true about everybody else in UK sports, but that is true about the about him. 00:34:57 Speaker 5: And the one your named is predictable was announced ahead of time, Joe, I mean that was there was never really a search for that one. That one was kind of already made. 00:35:04 Speaker 2: We'll take a break. A five nine twenty two eighty sevens KS Run I'm back Kentucky Sports Radio A five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven text Machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four Yanke real quick, Yankees Dodgers? Are you excited about that? For the World Series? I am. 00:35:21 Speaker 4: I watched a lot of baseball this past week. I love playoff baseball anyway, and you got Sohoya Tani and Aaron Judges show hey, show Hey, the two best players in the game going at it. So that's why I'm excited about it. 00:35:31 Speaker 2: Yeah, show hey Otani, Aaron Judge, Je Soto former Red Luke Weaver is the Yankees' best pitcher. Had that happen, he's just dunk when he was with the since with Cincinnati. 00:35:42 Speaker 5: But uh, Lison's own Walker Buler. 00:35:44 Speaker 4: Back, Yeah, t right, Walker Bieler's back Walker Buler should be a lot of fun. 00:35:47 Speaker 2: Right. 00:35:48 Speaker 4: They Dodgers used a bullpen game last night through their bullpen and still looked impressive. 00:35:54 Speaker 3: So but two best teams, So that'll be uh that that'll be. 00:35:57 Speaker 2: That'll be good. Shannon would normally have strong thought. 00:36:00 Speaker 5: Yeah, I've watched one inning of this entire playoff. I'm to be honest, I didn't know the series was over. 00:36:07 Speaker 3: Well, it sounds like you're really fired out that you don't even know. 00:36:12 Speaker 2: Didn't even know. 00:36:14 Speaker 5: I hate both those teams. 00:36:15 Speaker 2: We go whoever? Let me give a shout out. Brian Kirkland Lundy Yes from Metcalfe County, Kentucky set the state record for most rushing touchdowns in a game. He had ten. Ten rushing touchdowns in a game he ran for four hundred and ninety yards. That's pretty good. That's unbelievable. 00:36:37 Speaker 4: When I saw that stat last the other little Friday night, I'm like, oh my goodness, that is the just never happens. But you know who holds the state single season scoring record for a game, Don Gullet. 00:36:48 Speaker 2: Okay, but what that? Thank you for that? But I mean you said that like you were gonna be telling me Barack Obama Like like what. 00:36:57 Speaker 4: Yeah, I think Don Gullett also had ten I mean touchdown, but that he had Like why did you say it was more. 00:37:02 Speaker 2: So the president? Now? Why did you be like do you know who it is? And then say a name that no one knows? Well, I thought most people know him since the former Cincinnati Red Picture Pictures coach, well I did won a World Series with the Reds. That reminds me of that scene in Caddy Shack where he goes, you know, he's telling him that long story and he goes, do you and Chevy Chase's character goes, then you do you know who that man was? And he was like who? And he was like, Bob Smith, good guy, and that's kind of what you were doing right there. But anyway, congrats to Brian Kirkland Lundy from Metcalf County. Who's next Kentucky gas Man is now Kentucky gas Man. How are you. 00:37:42 Speaker 8: Then, great man? How are you today? 00:37:43 Speaker 2: Good? Good? All right? 00:37:46 Speaker 8: So I've got two things. My first one is the fans march stuits, and I don't I don't claim to know a lot about how the pay and everything works. Yeah, but most people, Mitch Barnhart, you know, I understand he cannot say the future. But it's been said a long time ago that Mark Stukes just probably want to retire early. So why did we not offer him a two years? 00:38:20 Speaker 2: Because he would have said no? I mean, like, why why don't we offer him to coach for fifty thousand dollars because he'll say no? I mean the reason he got that contract as So, what. 00:38:30 Speaker 8: I'm saying is other teams were interested. 00:38:34 Speaker 2: But other teams were interested in it, you they right, So like it's all a leverage thing. I mean, I'm sure if you asked Mitch Barnhardt, would you want to sign him for all those years? I don't know, but his agent says, if you want him to stay here, this is what he needs. And then that's where Mitch Barnhart is left. Right. I get that. Okay. 00:38:55 Speaker 8: The other thing is as a college sports as a whole. And I'm not against players being paid at all. I understand that. I get it. They should get a piece of what the college will get. I get it. But I just feel like we're at the point that these players are really feeling entitled. I had I had two small kids in. 00:39:19 Speaker 2: But you say that, sir here. I understand the argument. I get the argument about players' money entitled, But why are these other schools succeeding and we're not Because I can tell you it's almost like saying, was the world better before the Internet? Well? Maybe, but the Internet's not going. 00:39:37 Speaker 3: Away, so you just have to you just have to deal with it. 00:39:41 Speaker 2: Is college sports well better or worse after the Supreme Court decision? 00:39:47 Speaker 3: I don't know, but you know what it exists. 00:39:50 Speaker 2: So like it's like complaining about not about the Internet, Like you have to figure out how to regulate it, not just act like it's going away. 00:40:00 Speaker 8: So what I'm talking about is a level playing field, And I know you can't. 00:40:04 Speaker 2: Have a level playing field in America. In America, we have a free market, and level playing fields are socialism. Now the pro sports pro sports are socialists because of collective bargaining, but we don't consider athletes employees, so we don't allow them to collectively bargain. So if you believe, but you can't have a cap unless you collectively bargain. In America. You have to remember the principles that govern capitalism, which have some strengths and which have some weaknesses. They are what govern sports unless the players agree to a different system, and for that they have to be able to collectively bargain fair enough. That means you have to treat the athletes as employees, which the NCAA doesn't want to do. So the NCAA wants to be able to not follow the rules of capitalism and not collectively bargain, and the Supreme Court said you can't do that, nine to zero. So now that's where we are. 00:41:12 Speaker 3: Where we are, all right, Thank you, good day, appreciate that. 00:41:18 Speaker 2: I just like it is what it is. The NCAA for seventy five two one hundred years just violated the laws of economics in America, and everybody turned their head and said, well, that's all right because you're getting an education. Well, the Supreme Court said that ain't gonna happen anymore. And the NCAA Ryan wasn't ready. They weren't ready, and now they have to find a way to get ready, and I think they will, but we're in this period of chaos right now where it's the NCAA's fault, it's these college president's faults. They got greedy, and the Supreme Court said you can't do that anymore, and that's where we are to we are today. So we're gonna talk a little bit about the Blue White Game and more of this football. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
