But I feel like you are going to do. Yeah, I'm gonna steal everything you've prepared. Rich especially known for doing that thievery lubber lips Davis the headline in my stories. You said, hopefully you had a good taco Tuesday, so we did do tacos last night. Like, my kids are such a pain in the ass. I'm sure I'm the only one right. No one else's kids are paying the ass. Kids are rotten. I've said that always. I love coaching, I love the dad, It's my favorite thing. But there are times where, like yesterday, my daughter was trying to tell me that like a chicken taco. 00:02:05 Speaker 3: Was gross and no one likes them. Wow, And I'm like, just try. 00:02:09 Speaker 4: It, you gonna like it. 00:02:10 Speaker 2: She's like, yeah, your kids like mine? 00:02:14 Speaker 3: There are times where I'm like, this is the only thing you want to eat? Or nuggies. 00:02:18 Speaker 2: Yeah, but you've lived in Los Angeles all this time. She's eight years old. She's never had a chicken taco. She loves tacos, but last night she was doing the hell like chicken tacos and I'm like, oh, that makes the story even worse. So she's had them before, yeah, just all of a sudden, they're gross, and I'm like, all right, chicken. 00:02:33 Speaker 3: You like chicken, right? 00:02:34 Speaker 2: You know? 00:02:35 Speaker 3: Yeah, Dad, I love chicken. 00:02:36 Speaker 4: All right? 00:02:37 Speaker 3: You like cheese? Who does cheese? You're not lactose or anything? You like tortillas? Yep, here's a chicken taco and gross. Yeah, that's typical. Kids are paid. 00:02:45 Speaker 2: I'll give you another typical story when I tell you I do everything for my pain in the ass teenage shorder I and Mom, I'm dad, I'm everything, I'm her life flying, okay me this morning, you'll beat for her. This morning, I walked out the house and I realized I didn't have my car keys on me, and that my girlfriend used my car. YO said, I didn't put my keys back in the bag. I thought they were in my bag and my man purse. I thought my keys were in my man purse. You're satchel your fanny. I'm stuck there outside my door, which locks automatically behind me, and I'm banging on the door like Fred Flintstone, like someone's got to let me in or I'm gonna be late for Dan Patrick. Hello, dude, no one's waking up, right. I'm calling my girlfriend like hey, I'm waiting for her to answer, like you didn't put my keys back? I left without my keys. I gotta get to work. She's not answering. Nobody's answering. So I do the unthinkable. I call my pain in the as teenage daughter, and I risk waking up this demon and this nightmare of a person in morning. You tiptoe around your family table, and dude, I'd be like, wake up, you're sixteen. You gotta hear the attitude like never ask for any favor at all from my kid. She was hoffing and puffing at it bad like fie. She gave me the fine, She gave me the attitude. The I roll everything just to open the door so I can grab my keys and leave. So barely got here. If no one would have answered the door, because I was sitting there like an idiot would have been just sitting I would have just beside the Rich. 00:04:29 Speaker 3: Show on for Dan Patrick. 00:04:31 Speaker 2: But anyway, we got one dad life exactly one foot in Dad life, one foot up your ass every day here on Fox Sports Radio, Covino and Rich, and we might as well get into it. We mentioned Lebron Taco Tuesdays, all that good stuff. Well tacos aren't his only vice, I guess. And everybody has their thing, everybody binges on something, and apparently he gave up two things, not for Lent. Rich was like, was it for Lent? No, even if that's coming up right or something? Weay's Wednesday. I mean it could be depending on how you play your cards. Take a looker out today. So he gave up two things to prepare for this season. His hairlines not one of them. No bad jokes, leave them for me? Did he did he say he was good to actually get onto page two of books he's reading. 00:05:17 Speaker 3: Yes, he's gonna move on. 00:05:18 Speaker 2: No, he gave up two things, two things he very loves. 00:05:24 Speaker 3: Take a listen. 00:05:25 Speaker 4: Story to when I stopped drinking. 00:05:28 Speaker 5: So I wasn't playing as obviously as the season started. 00:05:30 Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, so I needed to give up something. 00:05:34 Speaker 5: I gotta sacrifice something. 00:05:36 Speaker 4: And I actually did two things that. 00:05:37 Speaker 5: I very love, and that is drinking wine and my chocolate chip cookies. But dessert I completely took it out. Oh so I was like, Okay, I wasn't playing. I missed obviously, I'm well document miss the first fourteen games of the season. It wasn't playing in November, missed all of training camp, everything. So I was like, I gotta do. I gotta take something out. I gotta sacrifice something, you know. And for the whole month of November, like I'm gonna do no desserts and no wine, no liquor, no nothing for. 00:06:07 Speaker 3: The whole my sacrifice. 00:06:10 Speaker 2: Two things come to mind. Everything's better with Coveno called Fino. 00:06:14 Speaker 3: What do you say? Two things I very love, two things I. 00:06:17 Speaker 4: Very love, very very love. 00:06:19 Speaker 2: You gave up chocolate chip cookies and wine to prepare for this season, and so many things come to mind. Giving up alcohol, as tough as it could be if you like it socially or to relax, or maybe you got a problem, it's a tough thing to do, but it makes such a difference, bro such a difference. I lost twenty pounds this past year. You know how I did nothing but give up alcohol. Yeah, for no real reason. I was just like, you know what, let me see if I can. It makes a big give it up alcohol seems like a non negotiable when I was like in my twenties or thirties. In your forties, when you realize how the hangover worse, yeah than half you are, you feel like I asked the day after, like if you're drinking on a Sunday watching football that next Monday, you're like, so I just started seeing myself in pictures. I'm like, what's going on? So it'd be a easy, big difference. It really did not crazy. And then you realize, not to sound irresponsible, but if you're not even getting a buzz, it really is just like empty calories. You know, if you don't have enough cocktails to get a nice little buzz going, then you're almost like, why did I have those two drinks? Well, if you're at the gym, right, it's like very counterproductive. If you're trying to stay healthy, you're trying to shed some pounds, yeah, or trying to get in shape for a basketball season, Yeah, it's not gonna do anything productive for you, So I mean, good move there. I find the chocolate chip cookie thing to be pretty tough, and it makes me think of things you'll never sacrifice. 00:07:52 Speaker 3: Rich, Ever, what's up, Danny j. 00:07:54 Speaker 6: Caitlin Clark Io Sam'll be excited about this? She chimed in on this topic. She said, I'd rather higher than do this. That's why he's him. 00:08:03 Speaker 2: You know, Cavino's uncle Joe as they call him, Hollywood Joe, but he's never left New Jersey. Well, that was gonna be my example. You can't steal my uncle's example. Get your own uncle's example, all right, my uncle Bartlett. But you know what, it's always it. I mentioned this to Rich and I think it's in both of our heads because we grew up in New Jersey and New York right east coast, and I think both of us have stolen the page. 00:08:30 Speaker 3: Of my uncle Joe. 00:08:31 Speaker 2: So my example, my example never it's my uncle who's never left the town. 00:08:37 Speaker 3: Never give it up, Pizza. You know, I'm gonna tell him you said that. Good. He's never used his example again. Okay, never leaves the town. 00:08:45 Speaker 2: That's funny because it's true, because it's true, But that's wrong to say on national radio, he says to come out here in puntry. He says he'll never give up pizza. In fact, he says he'll hit the treadmill every day until he dies in order to not ever. 00:09:02 Speaker 3: Give up pizza. 00:09:04 Speaker 2: And when you grow up with delicious pizza like we did, it makes a lot of sense. I'll never give up pizza. I won't eat it every day, but I'll never give it up. And when I say I stopped drinking too, for the record, like I'll still have a drink socially here and there, Like I'm not gonna not have a drink. I didn't go never ever, but I don't have them the way I did, Like Thursday Friday would hit depending on when the weekend would start for me, and I'd have maybe two a night. 00:09:32 Speaker 3: I don't do that. 00:09:33 Speaker 2: Anymore unless we're going out or whatever. Right, So what are those things you would never give up? Because I'll tell you what. I'd give up wine before chocolate chip cookies. And dude, let me throw out a shout out the best chocolate chip cookie. It might be your high school cookie when you think back to your high school lunch, So. 00:09:49 Speaker 3: You canna shout out otis spunk Meyer. 00:09:50 Speaker 2: It might be your otis spunk Meyer. You gonna shout out, it might be Linden's. You know those crunchy linden three packs. Oh yeah, that's what you gotta shout out. That was I got Danny g on the West Coast. Is that a lunch room favorite too? Like that three pack of chocolate chip cookies? 00:10:05 Speaker 7: Oh? 00:10:05 Speaker 4: We had that here. 00:10:06 Speaker 2: Yeah, me and my high school friends we called them Libby's because one of my stoner friends thought they were Barnando for years. Just he was like, I got my Libbys, bro, what are you talking about? You mean Linden's, you dumbass. 00:10:20 Speaker 6: By the way, rich Rich mentioned lent kind of, but it does start today and it runs through April. 00:10:26 Speaker 4: Second. 00:10:26 Speaker 3: Yeah, so what yesterday was Fat Tuesday? What do we give it? I know I was very prepared for that. 00:10:31 Speaker 2: If you look at the video from your Yeah, I had my daughter's tacos and my Tacos extra door though yesterday chocolate chip cookies my favor. I cannot resist. Sometimes I'll pull in like a slob just for the cookie and that subway soggy cookies. I love me some subway sandwiches. Soggy chocolate chip cookies. When you talk about the best cookies, I know for a fact that correct me if I'm wrong. 00:10:59 Speaker 3: What hold heal chain is it that has warm cookies? Double Tree? 00:11:03 Speaker 2: And anytime we ever stay had a Double Tree on a business trip or any whatever time we stayed at ESPN Bristol, we were right there, it would give us those cookies. But whatever hotel chain, I know it's Double Tree, but I think it's more than them. If they if someone gives out warm chrucolate chip cookies them, that's their thing. You don't even need to be hungry. You don't even need to stay there to go in there and get one. It's like Cavino who goes to the car dealership to get snacks. By the way, a lot of people don't know this, but yes I do do that, and yes you He's like Larry David who goes to you remember made a double Tree. They looked you up with warm fresh. They have like a little stove kind of counter. 00:11:40 Speaker 4: It is a double Tree by Hilton. 00:11:42 Speaker 2: Yeah, it's nice for their cookies influencers. They make a big deal of taste testing their cookies because their next level dope. You remember when Larry David on kerb would go to the BMW dealership just for the licorice. 00:11:53 Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, yeah yeah. 00:11:54 Speaker 2: So based on Lebron, what are things you'll never give up, no matter what, no matter what, no matter what. Because I told him again, I wonder if there's a loophole here because he says specifically chocolate chip cookies. Does that mean he's rocking some girl scouts? Does that mean he's rocking some peanut butter cookies. 00:12:11 Speaker 3: That's probably just his crutch. 00:12:12 Speaker 2: Probably late night Lebron, who's a physical specimen, was probably like, all right, even I Lebron, James will have a glass of red wine and a sleeve of chocolate chip cookies. 00:12:22 Speaker 3: But he's like, not now, not anymore. 00:12:25 Speaker 2: People like that that have routines or they binge on stuff, like my dad's a great example, right, Big Steve Cavino A. 00:12:31 Speaker 3: Was up a what's up Turkey? He what's up? Dad? He's up? Fool you dad. 00:12:37 Speaker 2: It's got like great seventies, Josh, Yeah, he was cookie like, my dad will come home, Hey you want some pizza? Yeah, Dad'll order pizza. But every time I came home, I feel like Dad's binging on something else, so he'd be. 00:12:51 Speaker 3: Like, yeah, I gave up fill in the blank. 00:12:54 Speaker 2: Hey, I get he gave up late night boozing, right, but you know what he does now pints of ice cream every by the pint every night. And I don't blame him. So if I'm gonna have him pint, I'm gonna eat the whole thing, Ben, Jerry and Steve now check, I'll check the serving size just I don't know, for fun, but then I'll finish the whole thing anything anyway, But like my dad will say like, and then it'll be like, yeah, I gave up by scream, but good dad, And then you see him binging on fag Newton's right, So it'll always be something else. Yeah, So what will you never compromise? Based on Lebron James, who I do commend him, he gave up two of his favorite things chilcolate chip cookies and the old Veno to prepare for this thiss like a two prong question where it's like, what would you never give up? And what is that thing that you know is destructive? Meaning like you have one or two of them to me late night kids are sleeping and I get the munchies or something. If I see a bag of salt and vinegar potato chips, I know that if I open that. 00:13:53 Speaker 3: Bag, I don't. 00:13:54 Speaker 2: I don't want to open the bag because I know if I do, it's sort of over. Yeah, I start thinking things. Remember how I used to flirt with girls in the nearly two thousands, Like ooh, you're dangerous? 00:14:04 Speaker 3: What do you mean? Yeah, that was a great move. You're just dangerous? What does that mean? To stay away? 00:14:08 Speaker 7: Yeah? 00:14:09 Speaker 3: What do you mean? I'm dangerous? 00:14:11 Speaker 4: You just are. He's like the cheeseballs soccer player on Love Is Blood. 00:14:15 Speaker 3: Exactly like that. That's what made me think of it. 00:14:18 Speaker 4: Stop giving me. 00:14:20 Speaker 2: That's how I feel looking at a bag of salt and vinegar potato chips in the bag's like what do you mean? 00:14:25 Speaker 3: I'm like, you're dangerous. 00:14:26 Speaker 2: Just get out of my face, and I'm taking you should probably keep your disks. 00:14:30 Speaker 3: Seriously, like, don't even like, don't even look at me. What do you mean? You're dangerous? 00:14:35 Speaker 6: Man? 00:14:36 Speaker 2: So yeah, that's the That's one of those things where I'm like, just stay away. 00:14:40 Speaker 3: But I'll tell you one thing. I'll never give up. One thing I'll never give up. 00:14:44 Speaker 2: And I'm having it right now, I'm a coffee snob and I like a cold brew from Starbucks. And I'm okay knowing that the vanilla sweet cream it's not a ton but sugary coffees. Even when I'm on like a mission, even when I'm eating grilled chicken and fish and rice and veggies, and even on those weeks where I'm like, you know what I'm gonna do, like a juice cleans, I still will sneak in a few sugary coffees. It's non negotiable for me unless my doctor. What if you have to free up cap space like the chiefs, what if you have to make some sacrifice you're not willing to cut out it's sink do the math. That's six bucks time seven. I'll sacrifice some gaps. I don't do it every day shirt, but I will say though, even when I'm on like a health mission, like hey, I'm going on vacation and I want to look good for my wife, I'm gonna try to trim up. We're going to Mexico in March. And by the way, Rich loves his coffee now, he likes his sugar and cream with coffee. I do like the he likes the sugar with coffee and cream. I get the his thing is so sweet at that. I get the vanilla sweet cream colbrew. It's a cold brew and it just has they top it off with that sweet cream, and I'm okay with I know it's not good for me. 00:15:55 Speaker 3: I know. 00:15:55 Speaker 2: Guys like you say, have your coffee black, like a man, have you coffee, Get. 00:16:00 Speaker 3: Out of here. This is my treat. 00:16:02 Speaker 2: Forty two forty two bucks a week times, for one hundred and sixty eight bucks a month, you're spending on Starb's for yourself, not counting the cake pops for your little nose picking kids. Rich is already, yeah, not counting what you get for your wife on your way back home. And that's a lie too, because they'll have two a day sometimes. I see it myself, Sugar, so put that perspective. Must be nice to be rich, Davis, to be able to spend one hundred and sixty eight plus. 00:16:28 Speaker 3: On coffee, must be nice, he says. 00:16:30 Speaker 2: The guy must be nice, says the guy who I feel like, where's a brand new Yankee hat? 00:16:38 Speaker 3: Every day? That's right, you got a problem. I'll never give it up. Problem ever, I'll never give it. 00:16:43 Speaker 2: Up, So one of those things you'll never give up, Lebron. If you missed the beginning of the show ten minutes ago, welcome Covino. 00:16:49 Speaker 4: Rich. 00:16:49 Speaker 2: You know you think it starts with what your daughter was talking about tacos. Who in the world you think there's a Mexican on earth or anybody on Earth that says, you know, for. 00:17:00 Speaker 3: Land, for anything. 00:17:02 Speaker 2: You know what, giving up tacos never happened, never will. Well, that's why Mexicans don't have abs. I know it's you know, it's your story, but you did mention your You know, your uncle Joe. If I go, he hits the treadmill every day just so he can eat pizza, even when it's like trash pizza. If I'm at one of my kids friend's birthday parties, you know, my kids are young, so I'm in the mode where I still got to go to the birthday. 00:17:29 Speaker 3: Party and hang. 00:17:32 Speaker 2: If they break out pizza, like little Nylan's birthday party, it could be trash pizza and they're like, hey, parents, help yourself, And I'm like, that's it's like dominoes are papping John. 00:17:42 Speaker 3: It's not even good pizza. Now I'm good. 00:17:44 Speaker 2: Then I'm like that I can have a little piece, like they're like four slices later, I'm like, what am I doing? 00:17:49 Speaker 3: I don't think I could ever. 00:17:50 Speaker 2: Yeah, you give up pizza or really just two regular slices. Dude, I'm the king of going back into the pantry, which is the king of Ah can't but I must. I am the king of going back into the pantry late night. And sometimes it's sometimes it's just straight up. Sometimes it's after an edible. It doesn't matter. I mean there are times where I. 00:18:15 Speaker 3: Do that thing. 00:18:16 Speaker 2: It's the equivalent of like having many slice of pizza one after the other, and you, dude, just take the pizza. I'll go and grab like five or six chips twenty different times, and I'm like. 00:18:25 Speaker 3: What, who am I kidding? 00:18:27 Speaker 2: You know what the biggest, biggest dirt bag move is and you mentioned munchies, not me, you mentioned edibles is when you have a hankering for something. I'm just saying a hankering. I'm not even throwing edibles in here, just a hankering. And you open that pantry because something's calling your name inside, and you open it again and again and again, and it's like the eighth time you opened it, yea, and nothing new was going to appear, by the way, I've learned that. And you ravage like one of your kid's treats, or even worse, like your wife's and she was waiting for it. And then you feel like the fat slab of the house us who ate their little treat? 00:19:01 Speaker 3: Where's the. 00:19:07 Speaker 4: Oh yeah yeah? 00:19:08 Speaker 2: Or your kids God forbid because they'll have a freak out, or if they were saving it for later, and you're the slab that ate it. 00:19:13 Speaker 4: Oh what do you mean? 00:19:15 Speaker 3: You got gushers stuck on your nose? Babe. I'm packing the kid's lunch. Where's the fruit roll ups? 00:19:19 Speaker 7: I don't know. 00:19:20 Speaker 3: That's, by the way, that's the most pathetic. 00:19:22 Speaker 2: You don't have snacks for their lunch box because you were a fat slab the night before. Where's the cheese? It's beats me. So again, get some control of yourself. But things you'll never give up or sacrifice. I want you to call and I want to chime man. But something to think about too. I just had a reason to hit the gym because you know what, I'll never sacrifice this. 00:19:44 Speaker 3: I'll hit the gym so that I don't ever. 00:19:46 Speaker 2: Have to sacrifice it's because Lebron gave up cookies and wine. And you know what, I commend them for it, because if that's his thing, Like you know, we only have so many joys in life. I let them enjoy his cookies and wine. Lebron, I think he's earned it. The reality is, yes, you want to live a nice, long, healthy life. 00:20:04 Speaker 3: But is it? Is it a happy, long, healthy life. 00:20:06 Speaker 2: If you say I'm never having cookies again, imagine you're like, for the rest of my life, no cookies. 00:20:11 Speaker 3: What a lame ass existence. 00:20:15 Speaker 2: By the way, Sam, if you really read between the lines, I think we found your way to Caitlyn Clark's cota son, so your way to her heart. Some cookies, man, some girl scouts, some samoas. What are those new ones called the explore mos? Yeah, the some explore mores? Maybe Sam cender box. Apparently she can't resist. 00:20:36 Speaker 4: He'd like to explore more? 00:20:37 Speaker 2: Yeah, you would, she'd never give up her cookies. Also, chocolate chip cookies and red wine separate very good together. Necessarily, I don't see those two flavors matching, very meshing very well. So two things I very love together. Dip in chocolate, ship cookies into my wind no, but he said two things. 00:21:03 Speaker 3: I very love. 00:21:04 Speaker 2: He didn't stay together though, you know what that is why. I don't know if you've noticed this. I'm sure you have. A lot of your favorite retired superstars become thick. They become a little chubby because when you are a specimen and you're playing professional sports every day and your training and you're on the ball field or you're in the court, you're on a combine, you're doing all these things, you're allowed to eat like de Floyd Mayweather Michael Phelps theory, you're allowed to eat trash because you're burning so many calories in your machine. That's why you see a lot of athletes retire and they and you know, a lot of they could go one of two ways. Sometimes retired athletes get chiseled because they're just cut from that cloth. 00:21:48 Speaker 3: Like discipline. Other guys just become you know. 00:21:53 Speaker 2: It's a matter of they got playing and you're less disciplined than you used to be. And it's also a matter of you're just getting like, yeah, you can't eat in your thirties or forties, fifties the same way you did in your twenties. You just can't. And some people never make that adjustment. Never make that change. Should ever start packing the pounds. You ever see some kid, Dude, my brother still eats like he's twenty something. He's getting thick. You ever see some twenty something year old. You'll be in New York City or like Sixth Street in Austin, or Bourbon Street in New Orleans and all these young twenty somethings are having pizza and like sliders at like two am, and you're like, yeah, you can't do that forever, dope. I'm like, hey, bro, my brother's in his thirties now right, and I'm like, hey, maybe, uh, maybe you don't need all those curly fries with your giant chicken palm sandwich. And by the way, Tommy, it's it's one am. I don't think we need do we need to order chicken parm at one am eating like a sligh? Maybe you don't need all that fat darrel in your life. You know, that ridiculous sandwich with all the fixens at two am in your third Southand yeah they're like fat South sandwiches. Yeah, yeah, they're called fat darrels. They started in New Jersey. They're like sandwiches with chicken fingers, because that's what you need, mazzarella sticks on your sandwich. You could eat that in your twenties. So anyway, what Lebron is doing is smart. And how about this retiring? It is National Drink Wine Day and it's also day one of Lent. Like Iowa Sam said, So what do you give up? We're celebrating. Why you think we're wearing these party hans, so Covino and rich A few things we love tacos, wine and chocolate chip cookies, wine, chocolate chip cookies, a nice heiney and baseball, dude, Baseball love talk baseball, and baseball has been pop in the past few years. We never gave up on baseball, so baseball, you better not give up on us. Tony Clarkson the fan love baseball. I coach pony ball. It's my passion. You pony boy, call me pony Boy, because other than did better than me, you know, honestly, other than like doing this show and being passionate about our career, coaching my kids is my passion. 00:27:28 Speaker 3: I love baseball. 00:27:29 Speaker 2: I coach baseball, I coach softball. I am a monster fan of the game. It's the best game. 00:27:36 Speaker 3: It's uh listen. I feel like football is the most fun to watch. 00:27:39 Speaker 2: I might be my number one sport like everyone else, but if you grew up playing baseball, you just have this loving passion for the game. I think baseball is just a beautiful sport. Everything about it, everything, every little thing about how they magically worked it out one hundred plus years ago, that a ground ball to shortstop, if played cleanly, you're out by a step, like the measurements. Everything about baseball is freaking perfect, perfecto. 00:28:04 Speaker 3: Even though they're. 00:28:04 Speaker 2: Taking away the Kazon this year, and you're gonna have to be. 00:28:06 Speaker 1: Like, was that a strike? 00:28:07 Speaker 4: I don't know. 00:28:07 Speaker 2: You're gonna have to go back to like the old timey time, you have to go back to the twenty tens when there was no Kazon. But Tony Clark's in the news and this is no way, no, this is not good news. Because the baseball season that's coming up. You better embrace it, you better love it, because I don't feel good about where things go from here. The the equity to enrich themselves is that someone in the way of saying he stole money. 00:28:37 Speaker 3: Well, that's only part of the story. 00:28:40 Speaker 2: Yeah, this is sort of a juicy story, and much like a juicy heine, as we already mentioned, people love a juicy story. Yeah, and Tony Clark, who was a great player in Detroit, speaking of Detroit sports, played for my Yankees. Yeah, hit a ground rule double that could have prevented the whole two two thousand and four, the bacle with the Red Sox grew out of Beard in retirement, became the head of the MLBPA. He's the head of the MLB Players Union and he's resigning now. For me, it's a two part crazy story because he got his sister in law hired a few years ago, like three years ago. Turns out he's having relations with her, took her to a Bangladesh. That's a no no on multiple levels. Right, that's the whole company inc thing and scandalous. And it's his wife's sister, Like whoa hey has slowed down there Tony Clark, and now he's under federal investigation because they used licensing money and equity for themselves. 00:29:53 Speaker 3: So allegedly allegedly his wife's sister. 00:29:57 Speaker 2: Yeah, and so that's what I'm saying. So, yeah, he's scamming money. Yeah, a little allegedly, little oral hirsh And then you know the old BJ Sirhoff was in full effect, little Chuck. You know, he was doing all sorts of shenanigans behind the scenes and getting little sticky icky icky. 00:30:16 Speaker 3: What's worse? 00:30:16 Speaker 2: By the way, when when you said sister in law would have been worse if it was his brother's wife or his wife's sister. 00:30:23 Speaker 3: Why I didn't need to know? Is there a worse facts here? Let's see. 00:30:30 Speaker 2: Wife, they're both bad, if you're bad, let's play out. But I was trying to figure out what was worse. I don't think there is the worse one, all right, let's. 00:30:38 Speaker 3: Play there is? Actually there is there is. 00:30:43 Speaker 2: If you were to sleep with your beautiful girlfriend Jordan's sister or your brother Tommy's girlfriend, my. 00:30:50 Speaker 3: Brother Tommy's girlfriend, that'll be worse because that's my brother. You're betraying your brother. 00:30:58 Speaker 2: You can't betray your brother. Kid, betray your brother like that. And I'm not saying betraying your wife is even is better, but it is. It's a little word less worse. You're betraying your wife in both cases, yeah, but in this case you betraying your wife and your brother. See the difference. One is betraying your wife and brother. One's betraying just your wife. So I guess he took the lesser of the two evils because he was with his wife's sister. 00:31:25 Speaker 3: That he got higher. He deserves a pat on the back. What a great guy. 00:31:29 Speaker 2: That's so shady, dude, Like, you can't be pulling favors for your sexual pleasures or something. So he got his wife's sister hired in the MLB. She was part of the MLB Players Association, apparently having relations. And that's scandalous enough. And then when you hear the rest of the story, you're like, oh. 00:31:48 Speaker 3: Well, the phrasing I saw was equity to enrich themselves, insinuates allegedly some type of money grab correct, Sam, would you say that sip siphoning of sorts equity to enrich themselves sounds like some. 00:32:03 Speaker 10: Le skimming off the top. Yeah, a little money here, little money there. 00:32:07 Speaker 2: Man. By the way, guys with infidelity leads to home wrecking, but it also leads to getting into your work. 00:32:14 Speaker 4: It's also it's work wrecking as well. 00:32:17 Speaker 3: Home and work wrecking be. 00:32:18 Speaker 2: A reminder to uh, don't dip your pen and Company, inc. That you know not everything's like an sleazy eighties comedy where you know your proper up on the photocopy. 00:32:31 Speaker 3: Here, there's no sanctuary anymore. We're home. Don't do it. It's not worth it. 00:32:35 Speaker 10: Xerox machine. 00:32:36 Speaker 2: Yeah, I say, don't proper up on the photo like it looked fun in some eighties movie that you saw. 00:32:42 Speaker 3: But it's not worth it. By the way, how many times has that been a plot line? 00:32:47 Speaker 2: And like a stupid show or someone took if someone took a My Success, someone took a copy of Budgets. 00:32:54 Speaker 3: No, it's not worth it. I don't care how hot she is. 00:32:57 Speaker 2: And you know what, ninety percent of the time, I'm just making this that up ninety percent of the time. According to this guy that you heard on the radio, it's what we call relative proximity hot. 00:33:07 Speaker 3: What does that mean she's not that hot? You're risking your career and reputation on a person. 00:33:13 Speaker 2: This goes both ways. This isn't towards the ladies. Ladies, this goes towards the men too. They're relative proximity hot. They're hot for the office, they're just hot for the office, and outside of the office they're not even that hot. And you're risking it all. And listen, MLB doesn't need this headline, doesn't need this story. Things are good. I can't say, listen, if there's money skimming, then I don't feel bad for him. But the relationship part, by goodness, how many men and you can say women, but how many men have let their pursuit of boutet bring them down? 00:33:53 Speaker 3: Bring them down? 00:33:54 Speaker 2: Politics, sports, entertainment, family members, friends, How many people do you know, really, let let's be honest ask getting the way of their whole life. 00:34:06 Speaker 3: As like we are just you know, society. 00:34:08 Speaker 2: There's something just so stupidly primal about guys sometimes where it's like I got left like this again, guy was stupid. 00:34:14 Speaker 3: This guy had life by the nuts. Tony Clark he did. He was a professional athlete that was successful. 00:34:20 Speaker 2: And it's how easy to make that transition from LB player to head of the MLBPA. 00:34:26 Speaker 3: Respected good guy. But you've seen it with politicians and athletes and important people. 00:34:31 Speaker 2: Broy Way fifteen years in the league. He had a great career. How many home runs you think Tony Clark had over or under three hundred? 00:34:39 Speaker 3: I was gonna say two forty seven? 00:34:41 Speaker 1: Wow? 00:34:41 Speaker 7: Really? 00:34:41 Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know. I had the number five to my head. You're close to fifty one? 00:34:45 Speaker 4: YEA. 00:34:46 Speaker 3: Have you noticed I have like some odd knack for these little guests the games. I mean, you got that giant head. At least it's field with something. 00:34:52 Speaker 2: Because I was like no, But when you said Tony Clark, I'm like, probably about three hundred, but not quite. 00:34:56 Speaker 3: I'm like yeah to you, all right, I'll push you on the spot again since you like this game so much. 00:35:01 Speaker 4: His career high perform on Mondays on our afternoon show. 00:35:05 Speaker 3: I know how many career high home runs? 00:35:07 Speaker 7: Yeah? 00:35:08 Speaker 3: Twenty eight, thirty four? 00:35:10 Speaker 4: Ok? 00:35:10 Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean you're in the. 00:35:11 Speaker 2: Ball and he bad like two seventy two of the years career, Yeah, close to sixty two. 00:35:18 Speaker 3: Yeah. But he was a solid solid in Detroit. He was a he was a force. Again. 00:35:23 Speaker 2: He grew out that rip Van winklebeard and became a big dog in the MLB. 00:35:28 Speaker 3: Yeah, so, I mean he had a great reputation. That's what really stinks it. 00:35:32 Speaker 2: I'm not making excuses for dudes at all or women. It's just it really is wild to think how many people. 00:35:40 Speaker 3: Really let what's in their pants control their brain? What's in your pants? I mean, come on, pulling up our feedback on the inchhow chat right now? 00:35:52 Speaker 2: Like I said, if anything from this story is you got to keep your fingers crossed for the MLB. The timing's bad. Let's talk about remind yourself that, yeah, I get it, that dude in the office, or that woman who's strutting her little business booty down the hallway, Yeah she looks great in all, but it's not worth it. Get a grip Aerosmith style, Get a grip and focus on I don't know, work. Aren't you supposed to be working. 00:36:22 Speaker 3: It's not worth it. 00:36:23 Speaker 4: Guys. 00:36:24 Speaker 2: Now, let's talk about the real ramifications of baseball, because this doesn't only affect the livelihood and personal life of Tony Clark. This guy, you know, made some mistakes. We're all human, so I'm not going to come down too hot on the sky. But wife's sister, man, my goodness, Luise MLB, this guy's horned up. 00:36:43 Speaker 3: My goodness. That's the other thing. 00:36:46 Speaker 2: There's so many people out there you had to go at your not only someone you work with, someone in your family. 00:36:53 Speaker 3: Dude, Calm down, relax. 00:36:59 Speaker 2: Formal CBA negotiations are expected to begin in the spring. If no new deal, shout out to FDR on President's Day week. If there's no new deal, If there's no new deal reached by December first, my dad's birthday. 00:37:18 Speaker 3: What's up Dad? 00:37:19 Speaker 2: Of twenty twenty six after the season, so we are safe for one full baseball season. But if there's no agreement reached by December first, I'm sure people know, but we could be looking at a lockout, a shutdown, and a possible delay of the twenty twenty seventh season. And here's the big like elephant in the room, salary cap. Not one player in Major League Baseball or any sport for that matter, wants a salary cap. Salary cap just means players are gonna get Bryce Harper definitely doesn't want Yeah, I remember he told the commissioner and get the f out of the locker room, and like tell you, I think he gave me the throats slight. I think he gave the commissioner a wedgie. He said, don't even think about it. But no player wants salary caps, flapped him because you're what you really want is the most money possible. There's a narrative going around that this kid gets sticky icky because no player in the Union is gonna want a salary cap. And they're saying, every owner except maybe three or four teams. Do you talk Dodgers, you took a thirty teams, Mets and who else? 00:38:24 Speaker 3: They're saying, maybe twenty five Danny of the thirty teams, the Yankees, I know, they're being a little stingy. 00:38:29 Speaker 2: So the Yankees, they're saying, are back and forth, like the Yankees will spend, but they wouldn't be opposed to a salary cap. 00:38:35 Speaker 3: So who's the third team? 00:38:36 Speaker 2: It's like the Dodgers Mets and they're saying, Steve Cohen just yesterday was like, you know, Dodgers, I could spend too. 00:38:42 Speaker 4: I know, I don't think the Blue Jays would be down with. 00:38:45 Speaker 3: Is that the third teams? 00:38:46 Speaker 2: And they're saying the Phillies might be open to spend, but Danny, even Steve Cohen historically as a Mets fan. I know this. He's gone back and forth on Listen, I'm willing to spend. But just because I'm a billionaire doesn't mean I have like an open wallet and it's just endless, like I'll spend one and how I can to make my team try to win. Yeah, so the timing of this is bad for baseball because if you got Tony Clark resigning like that doesn't help anything, doesn't help negotiations here. 00:39:14 Speaker 3: What's what's the solution here? 00:39:17 Speaker 2: Since Tony Tony Gonzalez, since Tony Clark is out the mix, what what do you think happens this year? Do you think unfortunately with baseball Poppin' oh, Tawny, Judge Soto, Bobby Witt Junior, all these young stars of the game, this is schemes and all the way you just named without even thinking about it. Yeah, the top four hitters projected in the World Baseball Classic this year. 00:39:45 Speaker 3: Look that I'm on the pulse. 00:39:48 Speaker 2: Those are the top four hitters, not in the correct order, but you just named them without even knowing it that you want to throw the fifth out there just to see. So I said, all right, you said, you said Judge Show with Junior and Soda the fifth. Who's the fifth top hitter in the WBC in twenty twenty six next month. 00:40:10 Speaker 3: That's a great question. I'll give you a hint. He plays for teen USA. No USA, No, I know, Mike Trat's not playing. 00:40:21 Speaker 4: You got this. 00:40:23 Speaker 3: We talked about him all year. We talked about him all year. Yeah, you got this. It just proves how forgettable he is. National Leaguer, American League, American League. 00:40:35 Speaker 2: I'm not putting you on the spot because when you when I tell you, you're like, well, hold on, it proves to you. Gunderson, you know what I do, what they projected to talk about him? You want to I want to talk about if we have time today. If not, you got to check us at our regular time five to seven on the East tomorrow. 00:40:54 Speaker 3: Don't tell me. 00:40:55 Speaker 2: Hold on, I can top the top hitter rankings for the w BC came out. I could take thirty seconds to figure this out. Sure, I named all I named the top four, all right, Bobby with JR. Soto and then I'm sure the top two are Judge and O'tani. You pick your poison. Yeah, I got I got an issue with how they ordered him. So if we have time, I want to talk about it. If not tomorrow, Yeah, who's the fifth judge? O'tanni? I said he plays for Team USA Soto with Junior Team USA. Team USA stacked by the way, And if you're not pumped about the WBC, then you must not have watched the last one because Japan won and ended with Shohey striking out Mike Trout just as a reminder, you know, And that was heated. 00:41:33 Speaker 3: It was so dope. I know it's not my boy, polar Bear, Pete on the on the uh Orioles Now, Nope, you're gonna hate yourself, Come on, Rich okay again. 00:41:43 Speaker 2: He proves how oh how ridiculous our conversations were last year, George Springer. 00:41:50 Speaker 3: No, I toured conversations. 00:41:52 Speaker 4: You're back and forth, you're arguing on the air. 00:41:55 Speaker 3: We thought about it for like months. 00:41:57 Speaker 4: You took one side, but you were genuine about it. But you were on the other side. 00:42:01 Speaker 3: When he proves he's not in the conversation, how. 00:42:06 Speaker 2: There it is. 00:42:08 Speaker 4: About that? 00:42:09 Speaker 2: Which proves yeah, he had a great season last year, but was he really the MVP? Can I tell you it's so far off my radar? That's man, I'm sorry, great hitter. They have him ranked fifth. 00:42:20 Speaker 6: Our year end special. Your guys' argument about that made that special. 00:42:24 Speaker 2: According to the WBC hitting rankings, not player rankings, hitter rankings, he's fifth And I'm not going to debate that guy hits bombs. 00:42:32 Speaker 3: Do you guys think that? 00:42:32 Speaker 2: Unfortunately, in twenty twenty seven, we're going to see a delay to the baseball season. You think they'll you think that's that's I guess the core of this, even though people want to talk about the scandalous part of it, well, the scandalationis part of the scandalous part. Makes you realize that without Tony Clark, who's a big cog in this, in this machine, he he's the rep right dany g He's like the main dude. So now when the union and the players talk to the owners, which is these negotiations are supposed to start, like, I don't like now almost. 00:43:03 Speaker 3: Did you say a big conquer hog? Would you say. 00:43:07 Speaker 2: Whether they do interview the sister lull? I mean he's walking around like it. Okay, I just hope baseball much like the I was saying, you're a WNBA guy because you're a Caitlin Clark fan. Sure, you don't think it's counterproductive if they don't get things figured out, like when does that? 00:43:23 Speaker 3: When does that supposed to start? 00:43:24 Speaker 2: Oh? 00:43:24 Speaker 10: It definitely puts a dark cloud, overcast cloud over it. 00:43:28 Speaker 2: And I'm not trying to be the most counterproductive thing for the momentum that baseball has right now. Just like the WNBA, like WNBA and I and I hate. I'm again, I'm not trying to be mean. If the WNBA stops playing, I feel like no one's ever gonna watch it again. It might be the end of the league because in my mind, it's like I mean, in my mind, like we were just starting to come around to it. It's like WNBA is hot, where finally people get it, trying to sign network deals, doing everything. If the WNBA stops playing, do you think people are gonna go people stopped watching baseball during the strike in ninety four. 00:44:03 Speaker 3: You think they're gonna go back to the w NBA get out of town? 00:44:07 Speaker 2: Man. I feel bad for the Expos fans that was their season. I feel bad for the WNBA if they don't think. I feel good for is Paul on Ill because he ended up with a batting title. 00:44:17 Speaker 3: It doesn't even count. It does count ninety four about that? 00:44:20 Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Tony wasn't it Tony Gwynn that could have batted four hundred and ninety four because he was he was real hot around that time. Could have, should have, would have. You don't want to deal with that kind of headache again because of the timing of this Tony Clark resignation. I just I just hope baseball figures it out. But what say you, buddies? Do you think you think baseball comes to some type of conclusion. It's almost like Danny And by the way, doesn't it also remind you not only are people a bunch of hornbags, right man, that bunch of horned like he's apparently allegedly under federal investigation because they use licensing money in equity money for themselves. Like people are just scamming off I said it line for their own pot name of Steven Sagall movie. Did Tony Clark think he's above the laws and now he's under siege? 00:45:12 Speaker 3: Aren't killed? 00:45:14 Speaker 2: He's just like you can't trust anybody, man, man, you think you think you think you know someone? I do think it would be so counterproductive. Do you think because they're so far apart guys that we as fans would be delusional to think there's an easy resolution. If every player on planet Earth is like, yeah, no, sellar cap yep, ninety percent of the owners are like, no, we should probably do some type of cap. 00:45:36 Speaker 3: I think everyone thinks there should be a floor. Yeah, it becomes a debate. 00:45:40 Speaker 2: Danny g Of You know our teams, like the Dodgers ruining the game or are they just better at business? 00:45:45 Speaker 4: Right? 00:45:46 Speaker 2: So it's just a matter of how you look at it. And I am one of those guys that says, Yo, the Dodgers are just better at business. 00:45:51 Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm glad you brought that up. And I'll give Collin some credit for this. I heard him talking about it a couple of weeks ago, and I looked at the numbers for myself. This is what makes it complicated. The Dodgers earned around seven hundred and fifty million dollars last year. They spent seventy five percent of that profit on their roster. The Yankees round the same amount of earning seven hundred and thirty million for the season, they spent around forty eight percent going into for their roster. 00:46:18 Speaker 3: So yeah, they're going into this next season exactly. 00:46:20 Speaker 7: You can't. 00:46:21 Speaker 6: You can't tell owners exactly what to do with their money. But a lot of this comes down to who's really invested in putting that money back into their business. 00:46:30 Speaker 3: Back into their team. 00:46:31 Speaker 2: You know what Shoeo Tani did for the Dodgers also helped them greatly, right, gave them a lot more to play with. 00:46:39 Speaker 3: Props to them. I'm not one of those guys hating on that. 00:46:42 Speaker 2: I think they they figured out a loophole that works and they're doing great business. They're not playing by different rules, so that makes it fair. 00:46:51 Speaker 3: That makes it. 00:46:52 Speaker 2: Even an even playing field. So before we get into Mike's words of wisdom and this Patrick Mahomes story, yeah about his money, let's take a few phone calls and get this Third Hour started a right. Covino and Rich eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox, we got Mike in LA who wants to talk no salary cap? 00:48:35 Speaker 3: What Mike, what's up. 00:48:36 Speaker 9: About morning guys? Thanks for taking my call. 00:48:39 Speaker 3: No problem, man, I was gonna say. 00:48:41 Speaker 2: It's just the salary cap in baseball is tricky, right, because you as a Mets fan, I'm sure you're a Dodgers fan, You're an LA guy. 00:48:49 Speaker 3: You're like, yeah, spend the way. But how do small market fans feel? 00:48:53 Speaker 4: Right? 00:48:54 Speaker 9: Well, first of all, great job on the crip, Cliff notes, I got a couple quick additions for you. 00:49:00 Speaker 3: Please do. 00:49:00 Speaker 9: Number one, valery cap has absolutely nothing to do with competitive balance and everything to do with owners dividing profits. 00:49:09 Speaker 8: That's your one. 00:49:10 Speaker 9: Number two. I actually don't think it's going to be a problem with Tony Clark stepping down because he's the executive director, not the lead negotiator. You may remember about a year ago there was almost a coup and he was almost out, So I think Bruce Meyer continuing should be fine. 00:49:25 Speaker 2: They they should bring in William Shatner. He does any of the priceline negotiating. 00:49:30 Speaker 9: I would absolutely approve the use of William Shatner as the director of President of Baseball. Moving on, they Cirrates also don't have to compete with the Dodgers. They have to compete with the Cardinals, the Reds, the I don't even know who exits in the Central Division, the Twins, the Royals. They don't compete with the Dodgers of the Yankees. They compete with the White Sox and the Guardians. They don't have to spend at the Dodgers level. Have to spend it. I'll beat their division. 00:50:02 Speaker 2: Yeah, and then you just have to win one five or seven game series. I know you're saying, it's not just because you spend money. Is not automatic because you know what I heard Colin here on the network. You know, Colin, our good friend that stole Fernanda Mendoza from us kidding. 00:50:14 Speaker 3: Colin, Stars Stars, Stars Stars. 00:50:17 Speaker 2: He made a fantastic point that you know, it's it's not like the Angels didn't spend a ton of money on Otani Trout all these they put together power teams, but guess what, no one cared. 00:50:27 Speaker 3: There's no guarantee. 00:50:28 Speaker 2: He gave the analogy of like if you're if you're good looking and broke, no one cares. If you have money and you're ugly, no one cares. But if you're rich and good looking, people hate on you. 00:50:40 Speaker 3: And that's the Dodgers, right. 00:50:42 Speaker 2: So it's like, you know, it doesn't Spending money doesn't always work. I'm a Mets fan. I know for years you can't buy chemistry. Buying the right people, Uncle Steve, we got to applaud what the Dodgers did. Uncle Steve breaks out the wallet for the Mets, Steve Cohen, doesn't mean they're winning. They won eighty three games last year. They tried to remember the Mets tried to get. I even forget because it felt like forever ago. Remember they had a Verlander end Schurzer. Oh yeah, and it was like, we're gonna spend forty million on these aging pictures. 00:51:09 Speaker 3: Didn't work. 00:51:09 Speaker 2: That didn't work out, And last year again, the Reds made the postseason over the Mets. So spending doesn't mean winning. 00:51:16 Speaker 3: It does make it easy. 00:51:17 Speaker 2: Ending on the right people exactly is winning, and the Dodgers are doing it. So thanks for your phone calls. We still got more people shiming. In ninety nine on Fox, What's up, Sammy Sweetheart? By the way, great call by Michael, but I couldn't tell where he started and ended the William Shatner impression. 00:51:35 Speaker 3: He was out of it slowly. Oh is he still doing it? Impressed Mike's ability to immediately jump into a shat in there. I was great. That was impressive, Greek and unexplained. 00:51:45 Speaker 2: Uh. Remember he was eating cereal in his car and we were all duped and I was like, Dah, you idiots, it's a Super Bowl commercial. Yeah, Danny Sam. Before we get the Mike's words of wisdom, could he let me ask you guys. You said that today is doctor Dre's sixty first birthday. And if that doesn't make you feel old, I don't know what does. Michael Jordan turned sixty three yesterday. I know. Can I give you two more? And I want you to guess who's older? Two legends share a birthday today, okay, And I want you to guess their ages and who's older, and then we'll get into big Mike's where's the wisdom? What's up, Mike? I'm waiting for some age jokes to come. Here we go sixt Mike was born. Mike lived in a Hooverville. He was Mike h He fought Teddy Roosevelt. All right, two people celebrating a birthday today. I want you to guess their ages and who's older. John Travolta and someone that Cavino loves. She was like a motherly kind guest on our show once, Vana White. I mean, I love Travolta too. 00:52:45 Speaker 3: Vana White and. 00:52:45 Speaker 2: Travolta two people our parents love. Our parents love both of those people. My dad, they're around the same age. 00:52:51 Speaker 3: I think my dad wanted to be Travolta and had a crush on van of White. So yeah, yeah, true story. 00:52:56 Speaker 2: Man. One day, Vana White was on our show and I was feeling a little unto the weather, and she was rubbing my thigh, bro rubbing the. 00:53:03 Speaker 3: Thigh Tony Clark and his sister in low type of way, like this is the first time heard of it. You have just gained some serious respect in my world, say like motherly sort of moment. 00:53:16 Speaker 2: I say no, it was very like, oh, sweetheart, like she would be like a kind mom. There was part of me I was like, yeah, that's really sweet, but it was a part of me I was like, ooh. 00:53:24 Speaker 3: That she was a little bit to the left. 00:53:26 Speaker 7: Man. 00:53:27 Speaker 2: She has very strong hands. After Honestly, though, in all fairness, she was like the sweetest woman. So who's older? I gotta go. I feel like there's a trick question here. Yeah, it was weird, and Cono goes, can I buy a d I mean. 00:53:42 Speaker 7: What I mean? 00:53:44 Speaker 2: I mean, I'm gonna go Travoltas deal. I agree with you, and you guys are right with Travolta older. They are two ages, Travolta and Van Why two staples of our childhood. If you're a kid of the eighties or nineties, give me the ages. 00:53:59 Speaker 3: No, you can't take. I guess three years upon. 00:54:02 Speaker 2: He's around my parents' age, so I'd say he's he might be seventy four, seventy three is seventy f I'm gonna say seventy four. 00:54:09 Speaker 4: Okay, I'm gonna I'll go lower. I'll say seventy three my dad's. 00:54:12 Speaker 2: Age, okay, And Vana White is I said three years different, So there you go. Yeah, okay, she's like seventy one, Travolta seventy two, Vana White sixty nine, the sixty No, happy birthday to then. And of course doctor Dre Hey, kids, he's not just a headphone guy. One of the greatest producers of all time. 00:54:31 Speaker 3: Sixty one. 00:54:32 Speaker 6: Yeah, kids, download the album The Chronic Oh yeah yeah, classic of all classes. 00:54:36 Speaker 3: Change your life. 00:54:37 Speaker 10: Doctor Dre was like in a coma, wasn't that? Didn't that happen? 00:54:41 Speaker 4: He had an aneurysm. 00:54:42 Speaker 3: Yeah, he had some major healthcare. 00:54:44 Speaker 2: So we're we're certainly happy he's still with us celebrating Doctor Dre here on the show. Sam, maybe que up some how about I need a doctor, Yeah, some Doctor Dre with any more of him? 00:54:52 Speaker 3: All right? Uh, you know what you want to do this? It is Wednesday. He's here, he's sitting right to my left. 00:54:57 Speaker 2: The guy who runs, the guy who runs iHeart and Fox Sports Radio, Big Mike. He gives us words of wisdom every week. Let's do it, Sam, it's time for the guy that runs this place. 00:55:10 Speaker 4: Just for clarification, guys, Big Mike does not run this place. He is not in charge of everything. He has no power over really anybody here. He does not run this place. 00:55:20 Speaker 3: It's Big Mike's words of wisdom on a Wednesday. 00:55:24 Speaker 2: Mike taught us a valuable lesson, by the way, when we first started here, if someone new starts at your office, if you pretend like you run the place, the new guy will think you run the place. I mean that was our impression when we started here. That's how it happens. Fantis, we spread the word that does run. 00:55:37 Speaker 7: That is because I do, in fact run this place, contrary to what Dan Buyer has to say. 00:55:41 Speaker 3: All right, what do you got for us today? 00:55:42 Speaker 4: Mike? 00:55:43 Speaker 7: All right, here we go in honor of Lebron and all the sacrifices he's been making. Oh a, cookies in red wine. Okay, sacrifice hurts because the thing feels good. But growth happens precisely in that discomfort. 00:56:00 Speaker 3: Wow wow wow wow. So the rules are simple. If you could repeat that verbatim. 00:56:07 Speaker 2: And by the way, it's early and I don't know you know about dp's audience here, that means, word for word, are going to come for you. I'm just trying to get in the call. Man, all right, this is an intellectual audience. Yeah, I was just joking. Guys, I'm just kidding. If you could repeat that word for word, you win a prize man, a CNR prize pack. I'm just trying to give back and say we love you, Dan Patrick Nation. I think you've got to hear it one more time. 00:56:33 Speaker 3: Let me bust out the flute. 00:56:37 Speaker 7: Sacrifice hurts because the thing feels good, but growth happens precisely in that discomfort. 00:56:47 Speaker 1: Wow. 00:56:48 Speaker 3: Wow Wow, great job with the going Sam Wow. All right, So that gives it. 00:56:55 Speaker 7: I give that. 00:56:55 Speaker 3: I give that a big Owen Wilson. 00:56:57 Speaker 7: Wow. 00:56:59 Speaker 3: So what you're saying It must hurt. 00:57:00 Speaker 2: Lebron to give up the wine and chocolate chip cookies, but growth happens as a result. 00:57:05 Speaker 3: And that was the whole point he was trying to prepare for this season. 00:57:08 Speaker 2: Eight seven, s seven, nine to nine on Fox. If you can repeat it, you win that prize pack here at Fox Sports Radio. Now, before you get to Sam and Midweek Major, I did want to talk some NFL for a secon. Let's shift gears. We talked some baseball, we talked some NBA football, still came. I mean, the ratings were absurd this year. We're going international games around the world. 00:57:28 Speaker 3: Next year. 00:57:28 Speaker 2: Before you know it, we'll have eighteen games NFL in the in the playoffs. Even games that were lackluster had like forty fifty million people watching. 00:57:37 Speaker 3: I mean, there's no denign in the NFL. 00:57:39 Speaker 2: Is just pure domination, right, And this goes back to what we were talking about earlier as far as what you would give up for Lent and Lebron James, because the chiefs are restructuring mahomes contract to free up what forty three point five million in kaprily forty three point five to six million in fact. And it goes back to what I said about you rich. Think of how much cap relief you'd give up if you just gave up Starbucks. That's oh, you're spending almost two hundred bucks a month. I just mean we all have our luxuries. It came out to one sixty eight one seventy, but that's not even counting with coffees he buys for his wife when he's there, the cake pops that your kids, Kanye to get all those little egg bites. 00:58:29 Speaker 3: For the extra gas to get over to star That's what I'm saying. 00:58:33 Speaker 2: Well, Chie, I'm a sucker for a l little pumpkin loaf. Think of all the cap space, No, you'd free up. You could use that two three hundred bucks for anything. Break of all the cap space, and that large hattie, it's got a big head. That's a car payment for some people. So let's let's break this downhome, have another car Mahomes restructuring the deal. 00:58:55 Speaker 4: I don't. 00:58:56 Speaker 9: I don't. 00:58:56 Speaker 3: I'm not worried about the contract. I don't want to have more. 00:58:59 Speaker 2: You know the numbers. Talk about salary caps and numbers. We talked about baseball and what's going on there. Here's my question for all the NFL fans, which is, like, everyone, are we assuming that this past season for the Chiefs was the anomaly where, you know what, the ball just bounced the other way for a change. Mahomes got hurt at the end of the year. Things just weren't right all along. But you know what, next year, they're right back in the mix. Or are you looking at it like, listen, the Raiders are gonna get friend Hindam Mendoza. They got Clint Kobiak as their head coach. They're gonna draft linemen. They got Bowers genty in his second year, so they're gonna get significantly better. The Chargers just got Mike McDaniel as they're oc. They're gonna get some weapons for Herbert. They're gonna make a they're gonna make a splash. And the Broncos were one quarterback injury away from likely going to the Super Bowl. That so why are we assuming that the NFL has proven to be a league that changes quickly. But it's still Patrick Mahomes. It's still a generational guy. But who were they getting to build around them? There were years where I want you to think about this. There were years where you know, Drew Brees was five hundred and didn't necessarily make a playoff run. 01:00:11 Speaker 3: Dude, I'm not hating on Patrick Mahomes, but he's not getting younger either. 01:00:15 Speaker 2: Could I ask you guys this outside of their early seasons when they stunk, When they stunk before Montana was elite, the Niners had a couple struggle years and then Montana just like that, were super Bowl bound and never went a year without sniffing the playoffs. Once Peyton Manning became Peyton Manning, they made the playoffs every You feel windows are a little smaller now though the Patriots never missed the playoffs with Tom Brady. One year when Matt Castle took over and they were still like ten and six and missed the wild card. I feel like things changed a lot wee quicker nowadays in the NFL. We watched the Lway documentary and the Chiefs have their time, They had their window. 01:00:57 Speaker 3: There was a window though. 01:00:58 Speaker 2: Elway is one of my examples where there was a time where in between the Super Bowl losses and the back to back Super Bowl wins, there was a time where Elway was on a adequate average, not really great team and they were five hundred a little under five hundred. But for the most part, elite Hall of Fame guys make the playoffs every year? Is that a crazy statement? 01:01:21 Speaker 7: That's not crazy. 01:01:22 Speaker 2: So with that said, if we think Mahomes is the the next thing, you know, the next thing next to Tom Brady as or his goat status. 01:01:31 Speaker 3: If you're like, yo, Mahomes is elite. The guy was the. 01:01:35 Speaker 2: Frak but he's also coming off injury. He went for a three peat, missed it right. Montana got knocked out in the NFC Championship game. Going for a three peat, going for a three peat was wild. 01:01:46 Speaker 3: They made it. They made it Jerry Rice and you know, he had a lot of key players that they wasn't just Joe Montaga. 01:01:52 Speaker 2: I'm saying they made it to the Super Bowl, what five years in a row, like five out of seven years or something ridiculous. Yes, Montana had Rice and weapons, Tom Brady had Belichick and and and a great defense some years. My question is, are the Chiefs back next year? How important is that they get Tyreek kill because that's it. 01:02:12 Speaker 4: That is well, it's. 01:02:13 Speaker 3: Important that they make some improvements. Yeah, I mean that's really I don't think the bottom line, I don't think it's I don't think you could just run it back. 01:02:20 Speaker 2: So either That's how I feel about it. And that's why this restructuring well. 01:02:24 Speaker 7: And that's why that's why Brady's run was so impressive, because what the Patriots were doing was continually resupplying him. It wasn't always some years it was with defense, some years it was with you know what I mean, like they were they were trying to continually evolve as they went through it. 01:02:43 Speaker 2: And that's what superstars out of little white receivers he made, you know what I mean. 01:02:49 Speaker 3: Exactly Welker. 01:02:50 Speaker 2: I mean that point where like Hogan Edelman, Yeah, he was great at at making these role players into superstars. I'm not saying that Patrick Mahomes can't, but he took less and they gained more. I'd be real surprised. I'm not rooting against it. I love Patrick Mahomes. 01:03:07 Speaker 3: I think he's cool. 01:03:07 Speaker 2: Great if you watched to see him continue to do his thing. But I think the league's much different now. And and like we said, I think the windows closed real quick. And I don't know, Man, it felt just based on fiel Richard, what do we know? It felt like last year we saw the the end of that run, end of that run, but you know what this and we're going to see the start of other ones. 01:03:27 Speaker 5: There. 01:03:28 Speaker 3: Here's the thing, Tom Brady. That's how it felt. 01:03:30 Speaker 2: If you watched Man in the Arena, which I thought was a great documentary, it was very stroky of Tom Brady. But I loved Man in the Arena. I love Last Dance, I love all these sports documentaries, but Man in the Arena the Tom. 01:03:41 Speaker 3: Brady watchet stroked I did. That's what I love. 01:03:44 Speaker 2: Tom Brady was a stroke fest because he was behind it, but it really was emotional his family. 01:03:49 Speaker 3: It was a stroke fest Riches there. 01:03:52 Speaker 2: If you watched this documentary, you realize that that early Patriots team he won with, I don't think there was like one common roster member from the later Brady team, so he him and Belichick just kept revamping along this long run and just having those two guys in place, which is why it was so special. They found their way to get back there. But we forget there was a decade of no Super Bowls. Tom Brady played for so long that between those early ones where unfortunately they beat your panthers and they beat the greatest shaw on turf, they breath, they beat Donovan McNabb. After that, it was a minute before they won again. But they still made the playoffs. 01:04:29 Speaker 3: That's the thing. They still made the playoffs. 01:04:31 Speaker 2: Will the Chiefs your thoughts, But before you get your thoughts, let's get a winner for mike' swartz a wisdom. Let's start with Damon in Ohio. Damon, you're on the Covino and Show. And for Dan Patrick, if you could repeat Mike's words verbatim, you win. 01:04:45 Speaker 3: What's up? 01:04:46 Speaker 7: Damon? 01:04:46 Speaker 3: What's doing? But men, you think you got this? Or what if you start the flute? 01:04:55 Speaker 4: He knows our show? 01:04:56 Speaker 2: I love it, Damon, Whenever you're ready, buddy, precise hurts because. 01:05:03 Speaker 9: The thing feels good. Growth happens precisely in that discomfort. 01:05:14 Speaker 3: Winna, Winna, check in the dam Da Damon, Damon, great job, Damon, congrats, We're gonna put you on hold. 01:05:22 Speaker 2: Danny G is going to send you off some koozies, some football, some prizes, some goodies and spread wisdom. 01:05:27 Speaker 3: We get prizes. And by the way, if you want to qualify for a seen our prize pack again nerve footballs and coozies, the whole deal. 01:05:40 Speaker 3: Uh, just leave a review where you. 01:05:41 Speaker 2: Stream your podcast Apple Podcasts search Covino and Rich, leave a review and Danny g Pick's names here and there, or just check out our show Monday through Friday. We're always playing games giving things away, so appreciate it. You know what final thoughts on on Mahomes and the Chiefs, It's just it's football. Unlike you know, we had this argument like baseball with the salary cap and the NBA that's you know, other narratives about tanking. 01:06:04 Speaker 3: Now, you know, how do you fix tanking in the NBA? 01:06:07 Speaker 2: Football is remarkable in that a team could look awful and a year later make the postseason. It's it's inevitable that the Super Bowl you could you could make the Super Bowl. You could be three and fourteen or four and thirteen and the next year win ten games and be like, wow, we totally change a narrative of this team. How did the Chiefs do that? Let me ask this or pose this question. If you free up forty three point five million in cap rely, what. 01:06:33 Speaker 3: Do they do with it? Tyreek Hill? Is it a protection? 01:06:35 Speaker 2: I don't know, end that's what I'm right. It is it receivers? Is it is it lineman? Offensive linemen? They are a year they are a year removed from almost three peating. I would love to see Mahomes prove us wrong and still be the man. 01:06:49 Speaker 3: They move so fast. 01:06:51 Speaker 2: Things move so fast that we're a year removed from them almost three peating, and we're talking about the dynasty's done and Danny G's Raiders got a lot better. I'm really you know what, I'm really intrigued to see what Mike McDaniel does with Justin Herbert, because I don't know if they've ever really had a system in Los Angeles with the charges that is Mike McDaniel's style. 01:07:12 Speaker 7: That could be exciting. Well, to be fair, the AFC West is stronger now than it has been in many years,
