M hey, hi, Hello, it is August the second. Is that
right? August? That's correct. Gotta get a date check in here,
Yes, yeah, date confirmed. What what year is it? Sixteen sixteen?
Yeah, sixteen hundred, nineteen and sixteen eighteen hundred. Unless there's not
an oddit zero no. Yeah, so we're we're out of the odds.
Yes, we have successful little some of us survived. What decade is this
the twenty teens? Teens? Twenteens? Is it that? If it's like
twenty eleven, that's not a team. That's an honorary teen. Okay,
it's a it's it's pretty between Okay, tweeny turn out. There you go,
it's the Giant Bobcast. I'm bright shoemakers a second Dan record say there,
you have defied your legal and moral obligations to vacate the premises. It
was part of the deal going and if you watched the upf yeah, that's
true. This was part of the contract. Been granted a temporary stay.
Yeah, Jeff said he could come back for the podcast. Ye maybe a
quick look. Oh we need him. We needed yeah, just we needed
just for today. We need we needed butts and seats. Drew you moved
your butt out to a regular seat. This I've got a butt. Yeah,
you're not. That's right, you're not. You're not chained to the
uh the production jail over there. Jason and I are switching off. Jason's
in the jail this week. I'm in jail. Yep, I'm in jail.
You're in a you're a hell of production that's going down there pretty good?
Yeah, yeah, I guess all right. Yeah, good to know
nothing's on fire. Okay, So I think I'm okay. We didn't get
the pyro installed yet. It is so hard to switch and talk at the
same time. Are you doing it? We can't see what you're doing?
And I swore, here we are and we two already breaking our vow to
never reference the video component of this podcast. But I think it's yeah,
I mean, we need to let people know. Are you we're actually recording
this yet with cameras as well? Are you are you switching as we speak?
Can you? Can you continue to talk as you switch cameras? So
us to and overwatchka, just hold it in when you're talking. You're crazy.
You should have a lot of practice. Yeah. My favorite comment from
the people seeing the live podcast so far has been what kind of software do
you guys use to switch cameras automatically use my left hand typically? Yeah,
other than that, there's a t bar sometimes because you guys are machines,
that's what they're saying. That's right, well oiled distinguishable, yep, yeah,
from robots. Jeff Gersman is out, I don't know, walking the
earth or something about seeing the sites, selting the area. Had a birthday,
I don't know. Yeah, I guess he's out there being the year
older birthday week. Yeah, it's a good time to have one, I
guess. Trying to find a place in the state that's not on fire.
Yes, let's get increasingly difficult. But in his place, we have brought
in a game spot Reviews Master Downtown Peter Brown. Yeah, how's it going,
man, I'm good. Good, Thanks for having me. He brought
your stripes. I kept thinking you were saying Pizza Brown for whatever reason.
Pizza Brown. It's pretty good, Nick game. It's not bad. If
I I would go with that one if I were you. It's an alternative.
I don't know, that's it. Then Pizza Moon. All right,
what's going on? Man? Not a lot, you know, slow season
for reviews. Yeah, I was just kind of waiting for No Man Sky.
Yeah. Yeah, as the reviews editor. Do you just like put
your own name next to that one? Is that how that works? I
don't know, do you actually want to be in that position having to review?
It's the endless game. I know it's weird, and especially now because
we don't have a game when I don't know when we're gonna get it,
so it might be launched day, So there's nothing to envy about that.
Like, that's tough. That's the only game you'll need for the rest of
your life. Obviously you won't have time to yeah the guy who you know
whatever, but we'll get Yeah. I don't know what to expect from it.
I mean I think like a lot of us just curious wait and see
approach, sit over there and twiddle your thumbs, join the games press congo
line of people freaking out that nobody has it yet. Yeah. I watched
some of the gameplay that the guy put up just to kind of like click
around to see and he was doing. There was like one thirty minute video
he was doing the same thing minute to minute, which is just pointing his
gun and like dismantling rocks for materials and stuff, which I knew to expect
that, but it's one of those much. Yeah, we'll see. It's
a lot of resources out there. It worked for Minecraft, that's true.
I don't think people will stop playing that yet. I'm glad I never got
my hopes too high up for that game because I'm still just looking forward to
enjoying it. I don't have too far to fall down, you know.
It's just like game I'm looking forward to playing. That's about it. Yeah,
pretty pretty quiet on the game Spot front otherwise these days. Yeah,
pretty much. Now that Chris Waters is exit of the building, there's nobody.
Nobody over there to hoot and holler Rocket League all day long. Yeah,
it's uh. You know, I joined game Spot five years ago,
and I feel like I'm the last person left on editorial when I began.
Yeah, it's weird seeing old faces go, but I'm happy, you know,
Chris seems to be making a move that's good for him. I was
still weird about that Chris Waters was an old face because he was like,
sure, right, he was doing like data entry or so when we left
the first time. But I'm gonna missignment seeing him at Target for sure.
Yeah, yes, like forty of him, Yeah, all across the wall
of TVs. Yeah, but so we wish him will yeah. Uh so
what's uh, what's been on your plate these days? Late video game?
Was that's music? Currents or Classic? Because I played both and they at
all ABSO I played? Okay, tell me about ABSO. I've seen that
at trade shows for a long time. I always wanted a good scuba diving
game. Is that what that is? You can? You can play it
that way? Okay? Uh yeah, So, I mean you're exploring a
lot of like underwater environments that have you know, fish you may recognize from
your favorite David Adamborough documentary The Ocean, the Angel Fish, the drask Park.
Which one planet Earth and which one is the Drastic park Guy? Are
they different guys? Richard is the park guy? Yes, and our brothers,
I think, Okay, they're both very British and old and at burrowis.
Yeah, that makes sense, Okay, I like them both, I
think right. I think they're both dead. I don't believe David park One
is dead. David Adverse still alive. I think they're He's doing a new
series, right, didn't I see he's just aren't they like another around the
second run of Planet Earth and I hope so, yeah, that's my favorite
shows ever. Yeah, when we have control, we will keep making Planet
ARUs Earths. Can't you see the Earth's I'm sorry, no, please that
one whatever, my head, I just see the fleas these dress. Sorry,
it's been a while. You could also call abs You a meditation game.
Yeah really yeah. Yeah. You find like these statues underwater where you
literally says like press X to meditate or press the touchpad to meditate if specific,
and then you sit there cross legged and you literal really sort of observe
the different wildlife and the environment, and you just flick back and forth and
back at you know, you're talking about events they were showing this game.
That was one of the things that they harped all the time, was like
we put a lot of time and energy into like studying these fish, and
like they had to wake me up. It's just so I didn't care.
But actually playing this game a lot of parallels to Journey, and you know,
it even gave me the same kind of feeling as playing Journey. But
obviously it's not a desert, it's underwater and it's teaming with life. It's
not this like desolate like Wasteland. Is it a two D plane like from
the screen shops I've seen it looked I played. I played some of it
too. It's uh, I hate to harp on the Hey it's Journey underwater
or comparison, but like, you know, even the marketing is going in
that in that direction, and it's the team and yeah, like I think
it's the art director from Journey. He's like the creative, the head of
the studio. So there's an obvious lineage. There's like that's a good reference
point for like, you know, it's it's it's very experiential. It's very
expiration focused, but you know, you're just in a place. It's kind
of mystical and like you're just moving through it. Does it do any kind
of multiplayer stuff like Journey? I don't think No, I didn't experience anything
like that. I haven't said any things, okay, save to assume no.
So it's it's a little bit less ethereal and like kind of dream like
than Journey was. Like it feels a little more grounded and yeah, the
real suppose, Yeah, there are some strange things that happen but I guess
you could. Oh yeah, yeah, I'm sure it's gonna get suppose that
that is something real. I didn't I didn't get a chance to play much
of it yet, but but yeah, like the stuff of the meditation where
you're literally flicking from species to species and it says at the bottom, that's
like some so and so clown fish or you know, hump head whatever.
Yeah, like a slide show of fish. Well you're actually you're actually following
them around dynamically in the environment, like you're camporabile, move from one to
the next, and like there's a food chain and sometimes you'll see one like
eat a smaller fish, like feeding frenzy. Okay, that's what you're going
to see. But it's really not that that aspect isn't that interesting. It's
yeah, it's just it's it's it's it feels almost collectible issue in a way,
you know, because there's like there's you tick off the meditation stones on
a list as you find them, and you can go back to them and
watch the fish and it's it's kind of screensaver esque. There are collectibles too,
and I don't yeah, I don't know what what purpose they say yeah,
the shells. Yeah, there are shells you can find scarp. I
think it's longer exactly. Know, you have robot buddies though a little like
robot submersible buddies that follow you around. They don't do not that I've seen.
No, But you can ride larger fish Okay, I haven't seen yet.
I think there is there. I think there is, but any any
like sizeable fish. You can roll up to it and his shoulder button and
just grab on. And that's pretty cool. That's it's neat. Yeah,
it's interesting game. Yeah, like Underwater Journey is a good general outline of
what that game is. But it's really pretty. It's it's got it's got
a lot of style to it, Journey, and I like that it's you
know, it's kind of reverent. Okay, Dreamy, we need to respect
the earth, Brad, yep, I do healthy respect. Did you finish
it? Yeah? I sat down to player for like fifteen minutes and I
just played the whole thing in two hours. Okay. I was gonna ask
if it was also short l journey totally? Yeah, yeah, very much.
Do you recommend that? Like that's how I did Journey, Like every
time I played Journey, and I think it's much better that way. Yeah,
just like going right through it me. Yeah, I mean it should
I just make an evening of it, like a couple of hours, Yes,
I think because this sort of experience is that that sort of roll out
are more interesting than just exploring the environment. Like you there's a lot of
ships to see, but is it that cool? Not really the stuff that
they introduced for the narrative, if you want to call it, that is
definitely the selling point. But there's a there's a lot of wonderful music yea,
and certainly like really good camera like composition like as you go through uh
that plays well with the environment. So yeah, very good to behold when
I like in that meditation stuff to screen say for imant that in a positive
way. It looks really nice. It presents itself well. And yeah,
the composer is the same as Journey, Austin Wintery. Yeah. So yeah,
so it's nice. I love Journey. It's it's a nice game.
I think is a good way to describe. My mom would love it.
Yeah, likes dancing with the stars for the week. Yeah, it's a
good choice though. Oh yeah, io, what stars are in that game?
Antonio Sabato Junior Sick No Bootleg Antonio Sabato. I met your mom.
She's a nice lady. Yeah, your mom and your sisters came through.
They were here. They were, they were, they were they were hidden
guests on UPF. Yeah, last week live studio audience. Yeah they were.
Yeah. The one sister that was into games was into the UPF and
the other two were just like, oh, I guess we're sitting here for
two hours. Yeah. Yeah, that's what phones are for. Yeah,
what else is going on over there? Game spot Land? Over there in
Game spot Lands, I don't know. Personally, I'm playing Final Fanacy Tactics
again, other for the tenth time right now. You mentioned that right before
the show, and then we immediately you started getting into an in depth treatise
on the best version the Final Tactics. Yeah, so what There are two
things that change between the different versions. One is the speed of animations for
like using a potion or attacking an enemy or casting a magic spell, and
the other is the script. The original translation. The original translation is written,
you know, sort of in just plain English, and it misses a
few like nuanced things that really only like really Nitpiggy people get upset about I
never cared. I still don't care. So they changed the script. They
rewrote it's more like Elizabethan English, which is immediately just It's appalling to me
because I think the original one is actually well written. It really conveys a
lot of the drama and the hardship that people are going through. But the
battle animations, I can't get past that. It literally makes battles feel twice
as long in War of the Lions and War of the Lines. Okay,
is is that the PSP yeah version? Yeah, the TAC animations, it
takes forever first up to come out. So there's an interesting anio play.
They ported that version to mobile and the same slow animations were there, and
people were still set there's still like animation speed up option No. But Squaring
Nick stepped in and they're like, all right, we understand they're too slow.
We sped them up. Thanks for your feedback. They made them too
fast, and you still can't talk all that. No, So if you
played this PlayStation original like I did for a couple hundred hours, you can't.
You cannot play War the Lions without feeling like you're doing something wrong.
What if? So the main one I played was the first Tactics Advance,
and I put like a couple hundred hours into that. That's a different game,
right, Yeah, it's different game. They made two advanced games.
Yeah. Yeah, so basically there's like three games. Basically there's you can
count. I think Tactics Ogre is very similar in a lot of ways.
Okay, I never played that, but that's like without the Final Fantasy but
the same staff. Also, Also, aren't there like a billion in Tactics
Ogre games or like three? There's at least nights of the Lotus War I
think is the one on Game Boy Advance, and then the standard one got
re remixed a little bit for the PSP like remake. I think that one's
called I don't know what's called, but uh yeah. Tactics Advance is weird
though, because it presents you with like you're a school kid and Evils is
like it exists in a book. Yeah, and you travel back through the
book to go to Evils. Yeah. Someone who like had not played the
original one when I first played that and also didn't really get into the lower
or whatever. I just really fell in love with the gameplay that one.
Yeah, the gameplay is still sound, so is How does the first one's
attacking animations compared to Advance? Is that roughly the same? And then this
new one is all wonky? I didn't. I just played Advanced when it
came out, but I don't have much deffinity for that game. I didn't
was look not wonky? How about that? The Advanced one is not wonky?
Yeah? It starts off with a pretty rad snowball fight. Yeah,
yeah, yeah, I remember that. Yeah, tactical snowball fight. Yeah,
exactly, it's great. Yeah. Do you do you keep up with
like the s RSPG output in general? Like are they still making like eight
sky of games a year? I don't really do. I mean, I
keep track of it as much as I do because it's my job. But
no, it's not the tactics thing in general that really attracts me. It's
it's really the team, well, the work of the team that went into
Tactics. Like the story is everyone involved is experiencing horrible things. From me
getting to end, it's really dour. There's never really a lighthearted moment except
yeah, it's that that game is special for me because well, for when
it's broken, you can break it and overpower your team because you have knowledge
you really shouldn't have. So there's this whole element where you sort of get
to look behind the curtain and make a really crazy team. But then the
story is just really dark and stuff. And and that and Tactics Over are
the two games that really kind of handled that perfectly for the way I want
it to the rest of them is like, tactical games are fine, but
it's not It doesn't deliver the same Yeah, exactly. Yeah, yes,
this guy a little bit wackier than that. Yeah. I tried to playing
that, and it's just even the mechanics are completely wacky in that game,
and you can do damage in like five digits. You know at that point,
higher numbers are better than low. Yes, sound take it from me?
Yes, yeah indeed. Yeah. So hang on, which which version
did you settle on? The original PlayStation? That's that's the one that's the
one to play. And right now I'm playing on my Vita NPS three and
I just transfer my save over. Okay, so that does run on the
Vita. Yeah, it's okay. Yeah. Did they ever put that one
out in iOS? It's like square and expend the original? Yeah, because
I've been dabbling with, Like they put out what Corona trigger and I think
Final Fantasy six they put out War the Lions. It didn't put out there
on iOS. Yeah, okay, yeah, okay, remember that looking good
on an iPad? Yeah, it played like an hour or two of it
on there and it works well, it does. Yeah, my muscle memory
is so tuned to like the controller that I kind of just can't play it.
Apart from the other problems I have. You would rotate the map with
the triggers, right yeah, yeah, yeah, and like tilt the camera
yeah yeah, which can be it's a real pain in the ass if you
don't. If you don't have that sort of like under your skin when you're
trying to like look around a map, you can get rid finicky. So
I just need that eat all that input. Have you tried Final Fantasy Brave
x vus, that's that new iOS game, new iOS game. Yeah.
I've played just a little bit of it, not enough I would really understand
it. I don't really, I don't have a good grasp on I don't.
Yeah, I played a little bit of it. I don't know enough
about the Final Fantasy lore to know if it's like remixing old Final Fantasy stuff.
But it seems like a you know, a standard uh JRPG's very talky
but free to play JRPG. It is a free to play JRPG, yeah,
with a story and everything, and it has a lot of like the
structural trappings of something like Monster Strike or uh the other one, what's the
one track? Yeah? Uh, but not I mean not in an obnoxious
upsell way, but in and obnoxious like you must be connected to a Wi
Fi signal, or we recommend being connected to a Wi Fi signal because like
every page that you turn, it has to connect to a central server and
load a bunch of stuff before it's mission. The loading screen is chocobos running
across the screen. I'm okay, I'm in. It's it's free, it's
free to play. It's you know, I'm sure you know, like like
every free to play game, you will hit some sort of shelf, but
I haven't hit that yet. But it's just weird to hear that they integrated
that model into an actual JRPG. Like, you know, they've done other
Final Fantasy iOS games, but they're all like superpight size, like little nostalgia
things. Yeah, this one has you got a party and you can it's
turn based and if you like, you have buttons at the bottom where if
you click them, then that then that character attacks, and if you click
them all in like a quick sequence, then they do like a team up
attack, and then you can swipe on the button to use like a magic
attack or queue up a magic attack. I think it works pretty well.
What was the one they put out a few years ago where it was just
like a bunch of heroes on the left side and they just kind of bounced
around and you just swiped it. Yeah, that's the one I was trying
to think of, Like, I can't remember a hundred heroes are super weird
though, Yeah, that's what I'm talking about, you know, like they
just they take the nostalgic stuff and cram it into like kind of the standard
free to play junk. There is some of that in the new one,
because you can like summon classic characters to like fighting your party for I'm sure
it's something like that, right, but yeah, I would expect that.
I just, yeah, I don't know when I'm seeing one of those classic
characters, but you know, I like turn based fighting. Yeah, it's
fine. It's a good thing to do on the bus. I think Pokemon
has rekindled some of that are you are you playing that? Still haven't in
a while. I have not really been keeping up with like the wings on
with that thing. But people don't seem happy. Yeah, with changes that
they were making. Well, they shut down this like third party website that
you could track down. I wouldn't see that taking a bunch of apps.
Yeah, yeah, it sounds like there were issues with the whole like the
three you know stuff. Yeah, and it would glitch and just show three.
I think I think the solution to that being glitched was to take it
out. Oh understanding. They issued a statement this morning saying, well,
it doesn't the way it stands doesn't really fit our original vision. So until
it fits our vision, you guys can't have it. The player's vision was
like there all the time. I went if it's a like a server load
kind of thing too, because those servers were going down all the time.
If you got a bunch of these third party apps, I wonder if that
was an increased servers traffic load. I wonder if the casual fans even care
though, because like my sister almost walked into about a dozen light poles this
weekend walking around playing it. So she didn't seem to care or know about
that stuff. I feel like the flow of embarrassing Pokemon videos of people walking
into things that slowed down a little bit. But she's gonna start sad Pokemon
Go insurance. That's oh wow, wow, that's handles that allowed many people
can hear this. Now we got it. You're the guy selling jeans at
the gold Rush. Have you played much all slightly of note of note?
Yeah or not? I don't Yeah, not really. That was the flea
market these days. Uh, slowgo and there's a lot of competition. Now
yeah, I've I've got my enemies in the area. You would. You
and Chris Cole are just like staring daggers at each other like storage wars.
Not so much Chris Cole. I don't I run into him once in a
while. It's the people that I don't really have a personal connection too,
okay, and you can't have there's no handshake kind of stuff going on there.
Well, sometimes you need to know when to pick your battles. Like
there's a guy who has a stall who always sells a little bit higher than
like the market rate and he's real bitch to negotiate with. But I always
try to keep it amicable with him because his brother is really cool. Okay,
so to get to his brother, I have to be nice to him.
Yeah, but no, it's everyone is trying to find retro games.
Now. The best thing I found, which was really great as a Sega
CDX mint condition twenty five bucks. Wow. Yeah, And what was weird
is that the guy had that and two thirty two X is it in his
like briefcase? And so I pulled up the CDX and I figured he knew.
I was all right, how much you wanted for this? Oh that?
Huh? Twenty five? Like okay, sweet, okay, sure,
and he goes, oh, do you want that thirty two X as well?
And it was a real junkie. I was like no. He goes,
oh, someone else bought one earlier, like someone bought a thirty two
X and not man, moron? Was it? Was it just a loose
unit or is that like full box and everything? Lucy unit had the power
supply. It's I have two of those now. I don't know. I
can always use a spear. I guess you never know. The leather case
I do have the leather case in San Jose. I found it was in
this really crammed shop and tucked away in the corner was the boxed leather case
and I got it for like fifteen bucks. That alone is and I hate
talking about value with this ship, but sometimes that's what makes it more interesting.
Is I think it's like one hundred dollars. Yeah, like if you
want to buy that, So, yeah, are you actually doing any selling
or are you're just building up the collection right now? I loathe to sell.
I'm happier to give stuff away. You're not in it for the money,
You're in it for the love, I guess sometimes just the opportunity,
right, like to just find something really cheap. But my collection is it's
nowhere near as big as Jeff's. I think I'm had like nine hundred games,
thirty consoles right now, something like that. And I live in San
like in San Franciso. Yeah, so I don't have much space. A
lot of things are in boxes that your floor space now, yeah, and
I don't I don't want to have that scenario where I've got like my whole
collection out where it's like this is how I value myself. You know it.
For me, it really is like preservation and reference and put it having
it available, put it all in boxes in the closet where it can literally
remost it can remain your secret. Cham Yeah. Like I even I even
bought some shelves so like, okay, I'll put some of this stuff out
and it's like I begin to put things on there, and I'm like,
oh, what is the sun gonna get to it? Is my cat gonna
try to jump up there? So now I have these shelves with like placeholder
games where I may one day put the things that matter. But do you
have do you have parts or games that you are displaying in a nice way,
like do you have pedestals or lights or anything. No, hermetically sealed.
They're not ambos, last chambers something, that's true. They're not works
of art. Yeah, okay, so it is just about massing. Well
no, I mean kind of. I'm at the point now we're like asking
a quality collection. Yeah. And so the problem is sometimes I'll buy like
a lot. I want to have a box of games like twenty bucks,
and I'm not going to pick through that and haggle, So I'll just buy
the whole thing and then I'm stuck with all these games that I don't really
want. So I'm trying. I gotta, I gotta just sell that stuff.
I gotta do it. But I'm always like someone like Dave in Alaska.
He's like, oh, I found it, and he yes, my
parents house, and I'm asking, oh, cool, do you want any
games? And he's like, I mean, I've got techno bole and I'm
like, God, please just take some of my care. I've just you
know, I've got a lot of stuff I don't need. And yeah,
especially with the amount of space I have, if I want to find something,
I have to dig and dig and dig. Is it tough to unload
that stuff? Even on eBay? No, Like popular games just undercut the
market. Okay, just go cheap. If anything, I think the demand
is higher than every but people aren't. People just buying games left and right
Steam and ruining the resale or you know, the ruining Craigslist for me.
Yeah, like ninety out of one hundred ads on Craigslist are I want to
buy your old games for cash? Give me that stuff that you don't want,
and they're not going to give you any money for it. And the
fun part is this one guy for the most part, posting more than half
those ads using different images but the same phone number. I report him like
once a week. But I haven't having the values of even games that were
like ubiquitous kind of got an old screwy recently. It depends on the publisher,
depends on the platform. Yeah, but I mean you'll see something like
supermyor Brothers three, which should be cheap. The most common game in the
world, there's fifteen twenty bucks, which isn't much, But if you think
about it, you know, there are a lot of games that maybe didn't
sell a lot, just people don't want them. When I worked at Funkle
Land in that early two thousands, it was when they were kind of phasing
out cartridge stuff. So yeah, okay, so we're no longer taking you
know, any as Genesis Superintendo. Because the lady comes in and she's like,
oh, my son just went off to college. Just trying to clean
up the house and everything. Here, I found a big box all this
stuff. I'm just trying to get rid of it. And it was like
fifty any S games, all the ones that mattered. It was all the
Mario Zelda's final fantasies, Metal Year, Metroid, just everything, two zappers,
two really good controllers, top loading, anys two of the like flightstick
things. Was that the neys advantage. The advantage was a big It was
just sick. But the Arcades that was that was like the one to get,
like that was the popular one. Yeah. Yeah. So I had
like every accessory in every game you would ever want for, like, you
know, any s collection in a box. And I was like, sorry,
like that's a really good collection there, but you know we're not taking
that now. She's like, all right, well, I guess I'll give
it to good Will. She walks out. She gets halfway through the parking
lot. I just clock out. Run out there, take the whole box.
Man. Nice. I still got it at my dad's place. Yeah.
Nice. Your dad's playing it every day. I'm sure he loved RBA
Baseball playing that. Yeah. Okay, yep, are you are you out
there every weekend? Uh? I used to be. I used to,
but that was when I was single. But luckily my girlfriend likes to uh.
She likes like mid century like furniture, that kind of thing. So
we go to like Elimediate Flee Market, which is a huge twelve hundred stll
flea market mostly people who are selling antiques and they know what they have.
But then you find the one person who has video games and they they're just
like, well, I don't know, just here, it's five bucks for
this. You know. That's where I got to sake CDX. A lot
of the smaller flu markets, those are so picked over. So I'll go
for funds to like walk around and enjoy the weather. But it's I'm not
like that dedicated to the hunt, especially because I have a lot of what
I want now. The things that I don't have, I can't find it
in the market. How's the Treasure Island one? Uh? So that one's
interesting. Uh there's one guy who sells like toys and he'll have a small
box, maybe some games. I've found like middling things there before. But
then there's like this section of junk, like the piles and piles of junk,
and once in a while you can find something there that's pretty good,
especially once you get to know the sellers. They're definitely willing to just cut
you a deal or you make the price, you name the price, and
they're like yeah, sure whatever. But Treasure Island is super small. I
mean it's it's really the such a weird place. It's such a it's like
it's empty. I mean it's it's called Treasure Islands. Yeah. So do
people live there? Are there? They do apartments and stuff, yes,
yeah yeah. And there's even like a baseball camp there. That's like the
I think that's the primary thing that happens on Treasure Island is just like really
popular baseball camp. It's also like surprisingly low key. Yeah. Like it's
almost like as soon as you get off the freeway and drive down onto it,
even though you're literally just a few minutes from San Francisco and all the
bustle, you get down there, it's like almost like going into another world.
Yeah, everything is just quiet. There's like wineries there. Yeah,
the first thing you pass as a winery and then there's like a some docks
with boats and it's not big or imposing. It's just kind of there and
it's nice and you've got the whole view of you know, the bay.
How much poop is there poop on the sero sidewalks? Zero pop zero?
I don't believe it. I would bet it's way less poopy. Can you
smell the San Francisco poop from there. No, no, the ocean just
okay, it smells like the ocean zoos. Actually, my mom was surprised
by the extension of human waste downtown. Yeah, you can smell it.
I don't really think we were palisation and it was there. We were at
very urny okay. Sure. Also, if you go away and come back
to San Francisco, yes, yeah, okay, Yeah, you're right,
we've been steeping in it for years. It's just gonnaase. Yeah. Every
time I come back from the vacations, I dread coming back to work that
first day because as soon as you, yeah, hop on that escalator from
Mark, it's Lexis. Oh yeah, that's that's San Francisco. I know.
Not not a lot of rain washing it down here. No, remember
when the escalator broke literally because there was too much poop in it? Yes,
like that was the press release, really, yeah, that was the
stated reason. Yep. Yeah. Yeah. And so my eleven year old
nephew is coming to visit in like a month or two, and he's super
excited and I'm glad to have him come. But I don't know what the
hell to do with an eleven year old in San Francisco, Like, I
can't walk around Union Square, you would think anywhere in the city Union Square,
Sure, No, it's got to be like Embarcadero or we're going out
of out of the Exploratorium. Yeah, yeah, that's a good one.
Yeah is that guys? Beer Garden? Yeah, Dolores Park? Okay,
all right, no, too young for drugs, young for drugs? All
right, Dan? Yes, what have you been doing with your final remaining
hours in the city. I've been danking around with the just a variety of
thinking, yeah, outside of the standard Overwatch, specially get your way through
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, uh no, just kind of spending some
time here and there with a few things. I've been playing Severed. Yes,
it was a Vita game, now it's on iOS, okay, and
playing it on iOS yeah, okay. I never played it on Vita because
I don't think I know where my Vita is and have not for a while.
Sure, I was super interested in that game, but I realized that
we wouldn't be able to capture from it. Yeah we can't now, yeah
we can. Yeah. I played a little bit of Diversion back then,
and yeah, we couldn't do anything with it. What sort of game is
it. It's weird. It's you're kind of traveling this map one screen at
the time by tapping on you know, tap the side of the screen to
turn, tap forward, and tap the center to go forward, and every
worst person. Yeah, it was first persons, classic dungeon crawler. Yeah,
yeah, yeah, sure. It actually made me reminding me of like
Cross Source. It was one of the first things I thought was because yeah,
it's just it's just first person move like kind of incrementally like one screen
to time, and then it's all touch based to attack. Yeah. So
you'll run into enemy encounters and it's kind of like Infinity the Blade style,
like parrying and stuff like you'll see him coming from this direction and you need
to come in from this direction just real time. It's real time, and
you'll see a meter fill up as they're getting ready to attack. But sometimes
there will be one thing in front of you and one thing behind you,
and so you're kind of watching meters like, oh that one behind me,
his meters almost full. He's about to attack me. I need to turn
around and swipe it Them's it seems pretty cool so far. I'm not.
I'm not super far in it. I'm a few like areas in but as
far as a touch screen game like that, like it's handling it. It
works super well. It's got a really cool art style, really cool art
style, good sound effects, music and everything. It's got an upgrade system
like you collect Severed. I think it's like seven bucks, right bucks.
You collect Severed, like like when you get an enemy in a kill state.
Basically it kind of slows down and you have a few seconds you can
chop off their limbs and then you use their limbs as currency to level up.
Okay, yeah, it's it's it's cool. I'll give you three legs
for that nesbuch. How it goes, it's cool. I don't know how
many how many monsters can surround you. I've only had two so far.
I've seen four. I knew it could go up to at least four,
but yeah, it's it gets super hectic because you can't see you can only
see one monster at a time. You can see their meters. You watch
have to watch these meters and like it's like you can get rounded by all
cardinal direction. You can be surrounded on all four sides and they all they're
all like winding up to attack at different speeds, so you have to watch
those meters and like spin around the block guy, and then when you successfully
block, that's when you can wail on somebody. Yeah, it's it's it's
really fast paced and fun. Okay. Yeah, so far, I've liked
it a lot, and it really works well on mobile. Okay, that's
also been playing a drink Box Studios. Yeah, Blomelee and Dark Style is
very reminiscent. Yeah, mut and Blobs Attack like. I like their games
a lot. Like it would be really good portable. It's a cool game
and I'm glad. I mean it seemed obvious it would hit mobile. Yeah
when it because it launched it who's launches on Vita? Yeah, come on
with a touch screen game. So I'm glad to hear that it came out.
Yeah. I also played a little bit of Rip Tide or Renegade,
which is just hydro Thunder. So if you like hydro Thunder and I like
hydroth Thunder, it it hits those marks pretty well. On illicit hover jets,
yeah, you go to jail at the beginning for illegal hover jet racing
because Cracks or Rex or Drex or some evil racer guy convinces you to race
them, but it's in an elite the zone, and so police hover jets
show up and arrescue and you spend two years just planning your revenge on directs
Rex or whatever, and you get out and you know, work your way
up and you a massive team of robots that ride hydroth Under jets on level
up and yeah, it's it's really cool. So I think it's cheap and
it's like ten or fifteen bucks or something like that, and it's actually good.
Yeah yeah, I mean it's PC. It feels like hydro Thunder.
It's I like it more than that hydroth Under Hurricane that came out, which
it's actually made by the same team. Oh it's a mobile port oh wow,
yeah, I feel like it's a mobile franchise at this game was the
first one made for consoles. But yeah, they did a few Riptide games
on mobile. Yeah. Yeah, so I think we had a quick look
go up this morning. Yeah. But yeah, it's it's good, really
good water effects in there. Yeah. Yeah, that's looks pretty good.
How would you how would you differentiate hydrophie Under from waver Race, Like are
you are you like digging into the way I haven't played how much boosting is
in the waver Race. I played more Thunder than waver Races. And the
thing about Wave Race to me is that you're really sort of like digging into
the water. Isn't that's more jet skis, turns and stuff, more futuristic?
Is this more just racing that happens to be on water? Kind of
went more ramps and boosting. Okay, wait, it sounds like jet Moto.
It sounds like you're it's similar to jet Modo. I think jet Moto
is closer to Wave Race than because that you're on a thing that looks like
a jet ski and jet MODI look like jet Modo things hover above the water.
Yeah, these kind of do too. You're never submerged, all right,
one for one. Yeah, I don't know where the differentiation is between
those three games. I just I just like the Steam is becoming this haven
for people who are tired of waiting for old water racing games, Like these
guys went and made bootleg hydro Thunder. Like there's that bootleg wave race game
that just came out. I can't the name of that sounds less awkward,
something utopia. It's like four words moto awkward. I think that's it.
Yeah, it's in it's an early access. I tried it briefly in control,
not quite there yet. He didn't have like this has way better water
physics. Okay, yeah, And that one is specifically going for something like
wave Race. Yes, they straight up say that basically, like, hey,
do you like wave Race early access? Yea, yeah, it's got
a ways to go. This one also has four player local split screen okay,
yes, and screen yeah, yeah, it's cool stuff like it's it's
basically more of that. But if you just want that and looks better and
current, that's that's what it is. So I'm Powell. Yes, I
just love the hydros under guy. It's pretty good. He's enthusiastic. I
don't know how the way race guy race. That sounds pretty good. Okay,
yeah, good, you almost had it. What about what about pac
Man on Genesis? That's not all right? Your quota? All right?
Play some of the new Worms? Okay, Yes, it's really good.
Okay, So it is it just like the old worms. It is in
the right way, in a good way. It's not like the worms three
D type thing, where's like, okay, here's you know, it's not
your grandpa's Worms anymore. No, it's it's your Grandpa's worms, ok.
For your uncles games though. Yeah, but this is the art Worms games
every three months. For the last they made a few smart changes. First
of all, the art style looks really really good, like it quite a
bit. It's got all the charm and everything that you you know, know
from Worms, but they've added like turrets, so there's like sniper emplacements and
turret emplacements that you can get into and so you get if you get into
it one turn. During the next turn, you can get it. You
can control it basically like hit X to just start the mini gun or whatever,
and you're just kind of aiming it for a while and taking out whatever
you can. There's also bigger buildings that you can kind of fall down into,
and then it reveals the interior and they've got their own kind of structures
inside. And there are vehicles so you can get inside tanks, you can
get inside helicopters. Yeah, and it feels really good if you get inside
a helicopter and you just fly over and you're just you know, train gunning
down direct control in the vehicle. Yeah, how does that work? You
still kind of have to like do a radical thing. Yeah, but yeah,
you're holding it. I think it's like X to fire and you're using
the analog stick to move around. How does that work with the turn based
stuff? Is it they just give you like there's a short number of seconds
to Yeah, exactly. Yeah, at a certain point you need to land.
Yeah, okay, but yeah, it's it seems really cool. It
was just a preview code and it feels like it was some weird dream I
had because it worked one time and I played all the content in the preview
code and ever sence. Then I've been trying to set it up for like
doing it unfinished of it. You're doing a UPF segment and it just crashes
computers immediately upon floating, like black screen control. The leite doesn't work.
So but I mean, it's just some preview code thing. I was there
for a part of it and I did see it, and yeah, that
art style, like it's really it's great. Different. Yeah, does it
look different things. It's far more need like a you know, flat like
a two D cell shaded some more detailed, but not like a weird way.
They're not going for like gritty realistic worms here. It's just a different
arts style. Believe you're selling me on a new Worms game, But check
this out. There's crafting in it now as well, So like in oftenans,
you can pick up items that you can actually use to upgrade some of
your your weapons into more powerful stuff. Yeah, the preview code I played,
I didn't not see a whole lot of that yet, but yeah,
it does seem like there's some of that. And it seems like like they
have done more two Worms with this game than they have in the last twenty
years of work. It's the most interested I've been in one since World Party.
All right, when you say again, all right, yeah, it's
I'll take your word for it. I mean it's gonna be a Worms game,
like if you're in the mood for a good Worms game. It seems
like that. So because you know, I've played all the like XPLA ones
and came out over the years, and they didn't do an as well.
Yeah, that's the that's the thing. It feels like they've just been pomping
out Worms ye very long time. I would always get excited for those new
downloadable ones and I'd played like, all right, this is the same fucking
Worms, or it's way too different, and I don't like it. This
actually felt kind of freshen. Ok So Team seventeen ye, yeah, cool,
they're publishing a lot of stuff. Yeah yeah, yeah they did.
Did you overcooked thin? So yeah, I want to sell you that.
Yeah, think they might have. Yeah. Did you play any more of
that? Uh? No, I haven't yet. I want to be Yeah,
officially out this week. Yeah yeah I will beat that game. Yeah,
the game is really great. What's the elevator pitch? I don't know
it. Oh man, I haven't seen it. No, it's a local
four players, same screen, running a kitchen. So you're having to like,
you know, wash plates, yeah, you know, chop meats,
chop lettuce, you know, cook the meat. You know, a bunch
of tickets are coming in. You've got a certain amount of time to billy
each one. So imagine like Space Team, Like everyone's yelling at each other
like, okay, we need to chop to meet. Okay, you be
on tomato. Oh that's gonna techt about the stove, you know that type
of stuff. Every everything's on timers. Everything is super fast paced, and
there's literally on fire at times. Yeah, and there's always like there's always
one or two more tasks than there are people, so okay, you can't
just assign people to a station. People are constantly having to juggle stuff.
It's it's super fun. This reminds me of the Yoshioya game station people Sits
like a multiplayer version of that for sure. Yeah. It's really fun and
it looks it's got a really nice art style, and the levels get super
crazy because like you'll be on the deck of a pirate ship, so like
the countertops are sliding back and forth, speeding semi trucks and like part of
the kitchens on one parts on the other, like having a throw ingredients across
to the other truck and stuff. It's it's really fun, super chaotic and
it but it really does a good job. But you I mean, you
know standard caveat you need people. Oh yeah, don't your couch. Don't
play it solo. Yeah, for it to be fun. I played plenty
of two player and that is fun. Yeah, so that's cool. Also,
man, Brad, you were there for me with a we happy few.
Yeah. Yeah, and I know maybe I'm not the best did those
type of games. But what type of a game is it. It's one
of those you put a rock and a stick together type games. No,
no, no, less that. It's a little more. It's more a
little more designed, I think than it's more about managing meters, hunger and
thirst. But that trailer they show to starve, Yeah, like like a
first person you're being hunted. Yeah, never played that. I like,
don't start, Okay. I don't hate these games by their nature, like
I like, don't don't starve quite a bit, but man, uh this
one, Like that trailer looks so cool. I love that art style,
I love that idea. Uh. But when you get when you get past
that E three trailer, which is the opening of the game, it's just
like, all right, here you are in this uh open ish world with
these procedurally generated quests that aren't that great. And granted this is like super
early access stuff, so who knows what the final up thing will be like,
but it seems like it might be a genuine alpha, not a marketing
alpha. Yeah. Like, I mean they're tech I think it is pretty
early. It's got a ways to go. Yeah, Like they're kinds of
like technical issues in it, But I can look past that considering how early
it is. It's just the design of the game itself did not interest me.
I mean there might be more story driven stuff. You know, they've
come out and yeah that they held back on a lot of that stuff.
Granted, you know the prologue that we saw three is still included. I
mean, I think a lot of people saw that and expected some kind of
BioShock as driven experience. That's how they're pitching it. Yeah, that's that's
that's what I showed. Yeah, demo played super well like that. Yeah,
yeah, it was intriguing as hell. Yeah. I played that at
Packs East maybe over a year ago, and that felt really great. And
then I had no idea of all the survival stuff until people started playing it
and I was like, what is this empty world? Yeah? That is
that is the game. I mean it's it seems like I'm nicely designed one
of those like, you know, all the systems and menus all look really
nice or cleanly presented and easy to understand. All the meters seem pretty aggressive,
and obviously that's something they can find tune. But like you're constantly getting
hungry, You're constantly thirsty, you're constantly tired, and it just feels or
food poisoned or whatever. Yea, yeah, it just feels like you're you're
spending these plates and they're not fun, you know, to manage it all
with its are into what if? What if there's more story driven stuff like
a fallout or something like that where you're I mean, I have different towns
than you're having long conversations with n PC's. I mean, I don't want
to slodge through I don't want to slog through core gameplay that I'm not interested
in just for like the reward of like oh, here's a cool little story
beat every couple hours or like. So I don't know what the structure is
going to be, Like the story could be really cool, but I don't
know if the gameplay is anything like it is now, I'm not gonna want
to play through it to see the story. Okay, I wonder I wonder
how they even tell the story, because you were saying like the quest or
super dynamic, you know, like he would go to a he would go
to a place in one run and there would be a certain quest there with
a certain n PC and the stuff was totally missing. The second time,
it seemed like they were they're big ones, like you know, figure out
how to cross this bridge? Yeah, that that probably is like something you're
gonna see you every time you go through the game. Yeah. Yeah,
I'm not sure about the smaller ones. I'm sure they kind of cycle out.
So uh yeah, I went from being pretty excited about that one too.
Hey if it surprises me, sure, but I don't have high hopes
for it. So it's good to know. Also in early access, Yeah
totally, so we shall see m Drew scan I have been playing Rim World.
Oh my god, are you serious? You actually took it upon yourself.
I was really scared because people were saying it's like Dwarf the med Yep.
Uh, it's it's not nearly as intimidating as that. Really. Yeah,
you have, and you did spend some time with Twar Fortress, not
not too much, but enough to know, right, this looks like a
game. Yeah, it doesn't look like asky stuff. They have graphics.
Uh, I mean it's people like they don't. They're just like they look
like it looks like me's without in the arms or legs. They just like
sort of, you know, float around. There's no real animation to them.
But it is very much one of those games where it's it's tile based.
Uh, it does look nice and you are. You can pick from
different scenarios to like when you generate your world. I chose the scenario me
and two of my crew or I guess it's not you're not playing a character.
You're sort of like the god creature. But three people uh crash land
after their ship explodes an orbit on this planet. Uh and they have to
you know, put sticks and rocks together to survive. And it's it's one
of those games, but I think it's a it's a it's a well done
one of those games. Easy in pretty pretty. Yeah. The tutorials good.
That's good, yeah, which is really surprising for games like this because
they just you know, there's so many of these out there that are just
impenetrable. But this one is really really well done. It's in early access,
uh thirty dollars, I think, And yeah, I uh, I
think it's also one of those games where you will make your own story.
So like I sent a guy out to go hunt this uh elk, I
think, and he got mauled by the elk because all he all I had
given him was a knife. But he was in his description he was like
a like a that born soldier. So I thought he'd be able to handle
himself, but he got totally gored. So he went back and I know,
yeah, there's unpredictable. Yeah, non human. Anyway, he went
back and laid down in bed, and then another person came over and like
gave medical attention to him. I didn't comand them to do do anything.
It's sort of like you ever played The Settlers? Anybody ever played that?
And I imagine a lot of these. I think Door Fortress is like this
too. You don't actually control anyone. You basically just issue a blanket order
and then based on how much they are good at or how much they like
something, they will go do. Like everybody's got their own behaviors that they
just carry out. Yeah, so you can go in and look at each
individual character and see there. This is the first game I've seen has ever
done this. It has like there, how well they will do at a
certain task like shooting or whatever. M exactly, it's a whole world full
and and passion for that. So you've got and they're both next to each
other. So if you wanted to say, improve someone's shooting ability and they
have low passion for it, it's gonna take longer for them. So but
if they have high passion for it, then they're you know, gonna you
know, get better at it more quickly. So it's really it's it's a
this constant like it's not I don't want to say min maxing, but it's
about knowing your characters in kind of an intimate way, uh, and then
exploiting their abilities to the best of you know, to to grow your grow
your colent. Is it is it easy to figure out like what you want
to do and how to get there? Like is there an obvious tech tree
It's like, okay, I could be building towards this or is it is
it super open and you just kind of have to try stuff and see what
comes out. It's it's I would say it's more like that, like I
haven't gotten through Like the tutorial is basically just like around with you as you're
going through the first few hours of the game, and I haven't, you
know, by any means, exhausted all the tutorial tips. But I would
say that it's it's sort of half and half like everything. Uh. For
example, I it told me to build a like a firepit or a stove
so that I was able to cook food. Uh. And so I built
the stove like the tutorial told me to, but no food was happening.
So I just guessed and said, Okay, well, I'll probably have to
hunt some stuff. But then I just had like these animal corpses piling up
outside of my supply area. And then I just poked around on the menus
and found a butcher table okay, uh and then that then then everything started
happening. So it's a little bit of poking around, but like I feel
like that may have been done deliberately because when you find stuff out like that
yourself, you uh, it cements itself in your memory, makes makes it
feel good. Yeah. And yeah, it's like you sell the puzzle.
That's cool. It's a it's a cool game. Yeah. That thing has
been burning up the steam charts from Don't let the Door Forts comparison. It's
a it's an apt harrison, but don't let it scare you, like it's
not the scary parts of doors for the rest of us. Yeah, and
like the UI is good, uh, and it doesn't seem buggy at all
yet I know. Yeah, I like it. Okay, it's cool.
Cool looking forward to see some of that there's also like I've poked around a
little bit in the menus and there's uh like there's a little bit of factoria
in there, like oh, run power lines and look up your your Oh
what is it called? Like a food gel dispenser something like that. It
gets it gets weird in the tech tree, but uh yeah it's cool.
Yeah, I want to see what that looks, Mike, Uh, play
anything else? Uh? Just that and uh Final Fantasy Brave EXX, come
on with the names. It's no like math in this one. This reminds
me of thirteen all over again, with the Fall Sea and the lat Sea
and some Kingdom Heart's the Worst Offenders by Sleep three fifteen years seven over two
days something something. Boy. Yeah, I don't know, man, Bravely
Default, Yeah, sure, that's easy. That one. I kind of
like how that actually was relevant and made sense bad as a title, Yeah,
when you play the game, it actually kind of comes together. Yeah,
Bravely second though, I don't know. I'm not so sure now,
not so much for me. Jason, Yo, what the hell is going
on with MUA? With MUA that Marvel Ultimate Alliance rerelease? Oh what is
going on with that? Dude? What happens. So, man, I
like those games. Yeah, I like those games and awful lot. She
seemed very excited when they abruptly announced the remaster last week. I did,
actually, and and yeah, I hopped on that download as soon as I
possibly could, and I booted up the first game as soon as I possibly
could, And man, the framework's real rough. This is a pretty pretty
bad port. Yeah. The first thing that immediately jumped out to me is
like, oh shit, I don't have like all the characters that I'm used
to to having. So I have the gold version of the game that came
out on three sixty and I think that was available digitally as well, and
that had a ton more you know, like content, costumes and stuff like
that. But yeah, like seeing this game in action, like it doesn't
feel quite right. And yeah, frame rates a big offender. Camera as
well, seems to be a messing up the stuff. It's broken from the
original releases. Yes, white would, Yes, how did they screw up
the camera and apport Like, I don't think that was one of the one
of the basics. Yeah, something just felt really really off. So I
booted it up again at home and immediately saw, you know, the difference,
and so yeah, it's real disappointing. Then I checked it out on
PC, which was a really bad choice. I heard it's like way worse.
It's yeah, it's it's so worst. So a lot of people are
just getting black screens and you know, they can't even play it. But
aside from that, like the buttons are not mapped correctly, like something that
would be normally on like L one or like you a left bumper is all
of a sudden, the select button. This was just a standard like three
sixty controller as well, So it's real rough. However, the second game,
Ultimate Alliance too that that one runs considerably better. That's isn't that the
one people don't like? Yeah? Yeah, and I don't hate it.
I think there's some cool stuff that they do with like some of the dynamic
powers. Uh, it doesn't make for a great like multiplayer game as much
as the first one. Also, the you know, the the heroes are
kind of lame and the costumes especially, But was it the second one that
went hard on like getting two characters together to do like the Yeah exactly,
and those are kind of cool right out of it, But like I said,
yeah, you kind of lose control at that point, you know,
especially if you're playing with like four different people. So I don't know,
it's it wasn't as fun. It wasn't as cool as the first one.
But of these sports, uh, this one runs like a pretty good clip,
Like I think it's fine if you haven't played too this might be the
way to do it. It looks like all the cheat codes work as well.
So I checked out like game facts and you know, put in like
the all characters code and I'm like, okay, all right, this all
this all works and uh but but yeah, unfortunately some of the DLC offerings
you know that we're part of the first one just or just not existing.
Isn't that stuff that like they said it would be part of this package.
They were super like mum like about you know what was going to be included
in this and we didn't find out until it was actually released. Just how
like little it was. I think pointing the studio that did the ports has
been out there right saying like, hey, we're on top of this,
we'll fix it. I don't know, I swear I saw I saw from
around at Marvel that said, you well, where we're letting Activision know and
a patch it works, okay, uh said, I mean no defined date
or anything like that, but yeah, that that needs some work, especially,
Uh you can get this bundle at sixty dollars. Yeah, otherwise I
think it's forty dollars a piece. That seems like too much. I like,
I like the Legends games, and I like the first Yeah, but
even for that first one that I liked, like forty bucks for that.
Damn. Superheroes are hot now, I know they aren't. I typically don't.
I don't like the movies, but I like a lot of superhero games,
and I liked the X Men Legends games and the first Lepen Alliance.
Best one is still Spider Man two. Yeah. Well, I guess we're
not counting all the Arkham games. No, probably, Yeah. I mean
the bigger thing is just like these games are what ten years old or something.
I mean the first one was early three sixty era and the second one
was like, oh nine. It's like I think we said it last week,
but you know, in a world where Diappo three exists, yeah,
like there are there are other better games in the genre out there on consoles,
now, you know, like it's kind of a tough sell. Yeah,
you've got to be a big fan of like superhero games, I think
to really play this. Yeah, there's far better games for sixty bucks.
And it doesn't even work right, that's yeah, it's super rough and I
cannot recommend it at this price. If they do fixt the like the frame
right, you know, the visuals actually look pretty good, you know,
So it's just an upras really, it's all if they're they're doing this,
uh, they haven't really touched anything else. But if you're feeling really nostalgic
for the game, you know, I would, god damn it, wait
to see. Yeah, Steve, if you can go buy, you would
use you would go play at the game again. Yeah, do you guys
did you guys review that one? Uh no, no, we heard about
it, but it's just I mean we did. Our team is so small.
Yeah, So especially when they like announced the game the day it comes
out or the day before, it's kind of tough to play ahead. I
guess it is. Yeah, and especially for a game like that, it's
not doesn't really have any dramatic changes except maybe it sounds like some technical problems.
It's it's tough to even justify paying a freelanswer to to review that,
especially because we have reviews for the original games, and I think those mostly
stand to reason. But my question is, yes, someone who wrote a
lot of games far reviews, Sure right, I could tell you they stay
at the test of time. It is funny sometimes going back to read like
one thing we don't do anymore is like, if you're a fan of this
genre, you will like this game, right And uh. I was watching
grega Savans Final Fantasy twelve review and that's how he ended it. And it
was and you know what, I didn't mind it. It made me question
why we don't do it anymore? Serves a purpose? Yes it does?
But are these games? Uh? Do they work on Xbox One? The
three sixty version originals? Like, you don't do that? I don't think
so. No. I pop my disc into you, yeah Xbox one and
said nope, not happen, said nice, try Sucker sent you to the
store. I think those were available for download digitally, like on sixty up
until like a few weeks ago they pulled it down. I think anyway,
I don't know. I got my gold disc, man, I'm happy with
that. I'm good play anything else while you were I did. Yeah,
I played another superhero game? But what is it? Batman's what which?
Batman? The tell Tale you didn't tell tell me about it? I got
a little anxius last night. I came out on Xbox One last and I'm
like, fuck it, all right, I'm gonna play it. You have
to know I don't play a ton of tell Tale games. I'm gonna switch
to Dan. I just see head. I've never enjoyed a tell Tale game
ever. They've all been bad. Okay, all right, No I don't.
I don't know that they've been bad for me and they were bad for
you. They were bad. Yeah, And and there's a there's a certain
part of me that's just like I like things to be cannon Like. I
get really frustrated when there's like multiple choices that it's like, shit, I
really want to know what happened if I would have showed in this, and
it stresses me out. So I've always appreciated the Telltale games for sure,
and I think they're written well. I don't know if they play very well.
But I love Batman an awful lot. So I wanted to give this
a shot, and uh, I definitely like it. This is this is
like a different take on like the Bruce Wayne story, and I felt initially
that they were leaning a little too hard and it's like, oh, wow,
your parents died, no shit, everybody knows that. But towards the
end of the episode you kind of find out why because they're taking a deeper
dive on you know, Bruce Wayne as a character and as far as like,
you know, the you know, the choices that you make. It
doesn't seem like anything's gonna like really impact the rest of the game so far.
But everything's written well, there's a good voice acting the visuals in particular,
so they're sticking with like, you know, the uh not realistic,
you know, a very comic book style with the cross hatching and stuff like
that. Uh, it looks really good. Frame rates not so good on
the Xbox, I don't I don't know how well it'll play on the PC,
but I'm totally into it right now. These are like a it's like
a different take on on, Like it doesn't fit into any particular like universe.
That's what I was going to ask. If it's like it's if this
is their own version of Batman. It definitely seems something. Yeah, so
you're seeing some characters that normally wouldn't have a relationship together. They're they're kind
of paired up, So I don't want to spoil anything. I think it's
really good though, like if you're into Batman stuff. I don't know how
well it pairs with like the rest of the tell Tale games, and I
don't play them a ton, but I'm into it. Did you mess with
There's like some kind of multiplayer or something or is it? Is it?
Yeah, Scream Scream integration. There's something in there that allows you know,
they draw or something like that where you can have multiple people like logging in
with their phones. So that's essentially what it is. Similar to that,
okay exactly. So you've got the one player with a controller, you know,
the second person can log into you like your tell Tale account, you
know, with a code or whatever, and then they can vote on choices.
So you could have like a whole living room full of people and you
know, you're all playing the game together. Can you just put the controller
down and just let the whole crowd like play the game, you know?
I don't know, Yeah, I know, because there's like quick time events
and everything that that's something I should probably talk about too. It's like,
you know, I would in normal Batman games, you know, there's a
lot of combat, and you know they start you off with a lot of
combat in that game, and it's all real quick, quick time events.
Batman combat is just getting played out and all right, and yeah that stuff
is like I don't know if I need that in my adventure game, and
it gets really frustrating if you miss, you know, one of the really
quick button prompts. But I don't know. I mean, it's it's choreographed
well, like the action is really good. It looks good when it's when
it's happening, I guess. But yeah, the multiplayer stuff, it seems
kind of neat. It doesn't seem like you would want to stream this because
there is latency involved. But yeah, if you've got like a you know,
a few people sitting around your living room you want to play some Batman,
that might be kind of cool. So tentative, tentative seal of approval
on this thing. Yeah, they're totally tentative. But I'm but I'm into
it, Like, uh yeah, it's a it's a different take on stuff,
and it's definitely had like a mature take, so that there's some gore,
there's some blood, some swearing. Yeah, it's not just your normal
kiddie batman. I guess it's It's cool. Yeah, excellent. All right,
before we move on to anybody play Headlander? Yeah? Did you review
that? Yeah? Do you want to talk about it for a minute?
Yeah? What do you want? I've had family in town all week,
so I haven't gotten to play anymore Headlander since last week, and I just
bums meet the hell out because Okay, I was really liking Headlander, but
I don't know, what do you think of it? Uh, it's super
weird obviously, the concept of you're just ahead and you've got a vacuum and
a rocket pack and everything that comes with that. But the what I really
liked about it. I think one of the main takeaways is that, yes,
it does like the whole Metroid kind of thing with the map, but
it condenses it in such a way that like every few rooms you're finding something.
Yeah, and so you get that sense of that, like reward loop
is like constant, it's so it's always there. I think that was my
question after playing like the first two hours or whatever of it, was how
much of them Troid Vanya it actually is, because it did seem kind of
like condensed or stripped down in that respect. In some ways, it's a
Metroid light. I mean every like the map will show you, hey,
there's a secret thing here, like there's you're not going to be like shooting
at a wall hoping it. Yeah, it seems super straightforward, like the
way it pointed you at, like here's every suit and like power upgrade.
Yes, you can get just like marked on your map. So yes,
pretty much wondering if that continued. It does, and uh, and I
felt it was fine, you know, because there's the whole dynamic between you're
just ahead and you're the body, and you get upgrades for each so and
each body has its own sort of ability, so you do kind of like
understand, Okay, this is a new thing, but it works in this
scenario. So I won't even get to experience it right now. Anyway.
I didn't do a lot of backtracking, though. I found after I beat
the game it was like sixty percent. I had most of the upgrades,
I had most of the hidden items, and I felt like, okay,
that's fine, yeah, because I think the moment to moment action here isn't
that great? Okay? That was the other the experience I had for sure
the first couple hours. But as I was getting like, you know,
I got the health Regin upgrade, and I was like, oh, I
don't mind I'm taking so many hits now because I get my health back.
But yeah, I was wondering if it ever got more. It's fine.
You get into like a flow where you understand like how to mitigate damage or
just how to deal with it or sacrifice a body to get somewhere with your
head, and that feels really okay. But it's not like satisfying action as
much as it is like a like an Edmond flow to the game and just
getting through it. I mean, there's not like a wonderful story to it,
but there's something of a story. The environments get more interesting, so
it's in a way it's kind of like absolute like yeah, you can meander,
but really it's just kind of going through it is the best way to
play it. Yeah, all right, that's good though. All Right,
I swear I will get back to he we're done at some point. Excellent.
All right, I'm gonna unlock my laptop and we're gonna read some news.
Yeah, there it is. I feel weird talking over this music in
my ears. I mean that's when like in the news, I guess so
right, actual broadcasts when the camera comes in and saying I'm like rustling some
papers here at the desk and forth saying we need to get a jib in
here. Yeah, yeah, okay, okay, totally. It's a totally
room for a gym up in here. That's yeah, that would definitely.
Yeah, crane shot stylist on your hair, okay, like whatever, this
is the bib around. We're gonna get wardrobe. Yeah, makeup okay,
get some pancake on there. Yeah, they put makeup on me when I
did ign Z three show. Sure it felt weird. Is that goopy and
famell bummy? When we do our game spot really yeah, oh man,
they're like they're like professional over there. They have like a real but it's
gross and smelly. Likes it's not just gonna look like a dude no matter
what. So it seems I'm for at least you're not gonna look like a
shiny dude. Yeah, I'm fine looking like a shiny dude. If I'm
shiny, I'm shiny. Especially you got like a lot of st I didn't
have this. Yeah really did you do show with this? Three? Yeah?
They're doing thing? Okay, oh right right yeah yes, ye shine
on Dan, thank you read you crazy Dan? Just pink Floyd reference.
Uh yes, good stuff. As as mentioned at the top of the show,
no Man Sky, Uh, nobody that I'm aware of in games press
Land has gotten their hands on that game as yeah, right, but there
are people on Planet Earth that have played that game. When people I think
it's maybe more now, oh, I think like as of like today,
there's a couple more out there. But yeah. You may have heard that
a guy on Reddit paid somewhere around thirteen hundred dollars on eBay last week for
a copy of a nomn Sky like a yeah, like a yeah, a
disc copy. Wow, So to get it two weeks early. He's how
was he going to feel next week? That's what I wanted, Like,
where did this copy come from? I don't know. I mean, that's
the It depends on if he monetized his YouTube videos or not. Well,
so he put up a couple of videos and they were being removed and then
he just stopped doing everything altogether because apparently, according to him, he didn't
like that he was making Sean Murray sad the fame was not worth the termine
this thirteen dollars one hundred dollars internet fame. Yeah, it quickly ran its
course. Yes, Like next week he's got to like go to the grocery
store and be like, oh, shoot him out of money. What is
going to be the thing that makes him regret this? Maybe nothing, Maybe
he just has an obscene amount of disposal one come. I mean I think
he was going to like daily Motion. They're one of those sites right that.
Yeah, but even yeah, they won't take down. No they did.
They took it. Took dude. Yeah, like we're living in a
world where even daily Motion will respect to got a live leak in Vimeo.
Sean Murray's got his finger on the b Also, he's finished it. He
finished it thirty hours to the center he got he got to the center of
the galaxy and in thirty hours. I haven't dug too much into like what
I kind of intentionally have been avoiding what he's been saying about the game because
I still want to play it, But sounded like he kind of made a
point of finishing it as fast as he could Yeah, it doesn't try It
sounds like a great way to play that game. Yeah, I guess,
I don't know. I mean I guess you're trying to prove a point.
I mean sure, yeah. I mean, now now we know you can
get to the end. That's encouraging. He has the speed run record right
now. I guess, so, yeah, totally galaxies number one world record.
No, man Sky, I mean you would hope that you can kind
of get there however you want, right Yeah, yeah, if you just
want to mind the same resource over and over until you have enough money to
do whatever, I guess that's that's valid. Yeah, that's what he did.
He found it is that actually what he did, he found a thing
that he could sell for a lot of money and just upgrade his ship.
So he just kept mining that same thing and upgrading it and doing that.
That sounds fun. Yeah, I don't imagine that's gonna but if you are
trying to mainline it, then sure, that's that's what your game is going
to become. Yeah, I mean Sean Murray, he said forty hours to
a thousand hours, you know, Okay, whatever you want to do,
like Joe Danger, Yes, exactly, exactly, the same thing. So
yeah, that that happened. It's out there, you know, like people
on message boards are going insane. Yeah uh, either flipping out the game
sounds too short now or they're trying to undermine everything he's saying and prove why
he's the whole thing is. At least he wasn't like it's broken. Yeah,
well he actually apparently liked this version of the game he's been playing.
Is quite buggy. Are people mad because they think this is some kind of
like Mala new esque, you know, promising the world and not delivering on
it? Because I feel I think it's both, because I feel like he
hasn't been I mean I haven't read every interview he's done, but I like
all these grand schemes. Oh I'm gonna I'm gonna play this game forever.
I'm gonna be able to do everything. I feel like that's come more out
of the community than from Hello Games. Yeah. Maybe wrong. Oh yeah,
he's made some grandiose statements. No, I don't. I don't think
they've ever really misrepresented that game as anything other than it's just fan bases.
I think people see those giant numbers and the like their their minds immediately start
filling in on the empty space there when you know, but what was the
impetus behind putting those numbers out there? I mean, obviously it's those things
play really well from a marketing perspective. You can say like, hey,
we have eighteen quintillion planets that you can visit like you'll never I mean,
they don't come out and say, hey, you'll never need another video game
again, but a lot of people hear that. Yeah, and it's not
that. I mean it is that if you're happy going to planet after a
procedure, really generated planet to see what they look like and see what kind
of animals are there, then it's also any game that's there for you can
play any game for it. Yeah, like that, you know it'ster Area
and star Bound can give you that elite, dangerous fun of fantasy tactics.
Yeah. Sure. Also, I haven't seen this really reported widely, but
it looks like the PC version has been delayed by a matter of days.
There was some yeah, like the website wasn't totally clear. I think it's
like either the tenth or the twelve. It's the twelfth, so they're about
page I've got it right here, they're they're about page says that the PC
version is coming now worldwide on August twelfth. Okay, Yeah, there were
rumblings like a week or two ago because there was there was like missing info
on the PC version, So I guess, yeah, now it's official,
which is next Friday? And when does the console version coming? He has
four versions out on Tuesday the ninth, a week from today. Okay,
so three day difference. Yeah, so's it's not a huge delay. But
if you were thinking you would get it day one on PC, that's no
longer happening, even though the Steam page still says the ninth. Okay,
I think I might buy it on I really want to play it on my
television, but I think I might buy it on PC needs the Steam link.
I'm really I'm just afraid of like that dry distance thing that I've seen
in all the footages that I've a Shane event, and I'm hoping that by
going PC business will increase. If that's true, well, I mean it
probably is. But the Steam page also said the minimum spec is a G
Force four eighty, so oh wow, right, so it's probably just about
it. Just about any decent machine is probably gonna be able to run that
thing at max settings. I don't know how much of a different set'll make,
But you have to wonder what will happen on the PC, just in
terms of any potential mod stuff that people will find a way to crack open
and mess with, Like you can see VR support getting modited into this thing
or who knows what. Right, So it might be the safe bet there
for that. But yeah, if you were going to play it on PC,
not next Tuesday seemingly talk about the PlayStation Vita earlier. Yeah, have
you found your VD yet? We have like a retro section of the podcast
here, yes, okay, talking about retroportables here. No, I have
no idea where minus Wow, well maybe maybe you should find it, okay,
fine, or I don't know if there's a reason i'd pull it out?
No, what the reason? What if I told you the current firmware
on the Vita has been made uh or effectively Homebrew has been enabled on the
current firmware of the Vita. What if I told you you could play Super
n S games on your view I mean I went pretty hard on that stuff
on the PSP, yeah, back in like two thousand and five, and
right, Yeah, it's kind of cool. But you know, now,
hey, thanks for the Drew Scalen method. I could do that on my
candle. It's true with the Supernintendo Control, I play Superness games anywhere.
Now, yeah, it's easy to install it on the Vida. But the
problem is you have to do it every time. Yeah, you reboot the
power. So yeah, it's a it's a web based exploit. You just
visit the appropriate website on the in the Vita web browser and it will and
it will yeah, bust open the bust open the Yeah, effectively, that's
not worth the effort at this point. Who doesn't have a PSP that has
that stuff? Who can't just go an EATA and buy one for thirty bucks?
And yeah? Yeah, well, I mean, you know, the
Vida is a faster system. So screen is real nice, screen is very
nice. That's true. Everyone, they'll have a good sixty four emulator.
No play Mari sixty four on there? No, So this, uh,
the story on your gamer says, so there is a super ES emulator,
like I said, and it said it runs all titles except for Super FX
games at full speed. Right now, So Unirase series or whatever, give
you a give you an idea of how fast that thing is or you know
that also the emulator is probably super early. But there's also a port of
Doom. Of course there's because how could there not be of PC doom.
Yes, nice microwave runs doom fridge. I want to believe that you're actually
serious. I choose to believe that you're serious. It's the thing, Yeah,
that's kind of it right now, Like, like you said, it's
super limited. You know, it's kind of a pain in the ass.
You're gonna have to redo it every time you reboot, and there's kind of
not much to run on it right now. But who knows where this will
go? I mean, I mean the novelty of being a hacker was kind
of like the thing with the PSPR, Like, oh, I'm doing this
and at the subsystem level, I shouldn't be here. Yeah, I've cracked
the code. Got this ugly text mode display of like a directory content.
So I don't know if these settings are but I'm gonna I'm gonna overclock this
thing. I don't know why, but I did it. You had to
do that thing where you like took the memory card pro duo out for a
second and like while something was booting, you had to like put it back
in or whatever. I mean, yes, awesome. The original the original
way to like bust open the PSP involved the battery of that. One of
the first methods was that the battery, Yes, like a factory out.
Yeah really I remember that. See I did it with Grand Theft Auto Liberties
No Vice City stops over. I've also done with that. Yeah. Yeah,
it was actually when I found out it was hacked, I was like,
well, I'm gonna go buy a PSP. That was the way that
once everything got totally blown out, Like it didn't take long. I mean
it was even way before the battery. It was just when Grand Theft Auto
came out on PSP. It was like, I think a month or two
after that, and I was like, all right, well I'm doing it.
I'm gonna go buy one, and now I have four because I'm idiots.
Yeah, do you have a go? I do not have a go?
Okay, I poopoo did the go for a very long time, but
never, but now I kind of just want to have one poo poo the
go. I like, you're the only person that depends the ps Not true
at all. I actually do like the Forum factory. Yeah, the go
it was a neat design. Yeah, there's a docking station and it's got
like a component out as well, so you can look it up to a
big, big boy TV. But the cool thing is you can sink a
Bluetooth controller so like the PS three controller, and just play that ship on
on your TV. So okay, that was a big thing that I've really
liked. Some of the PSPs have the you know, video out and although
we have to component and it's great, but the controller thing always controller.
I was thinking about that this morning. That sp go is a way to
go. Wow. Okay, so this exploit actually also works on the PlayStation
TV. Yeah, and the big thing there is, you know they've they've
disallowed a bunch of Vita games from running on that thing. You know,
they had that white list. They arbitraily decided you could still like load that
stuff and it would still kind of work like they had an official list.
But yeah, so I think that some of that stuff may have been defeated,
but this opens that back up. You can you can now go in
and white list any Vida game to run on a PlayStation TV. But there's
nothing in this exploit about or that that attacks the DRM of the Vita and
the people who made the exploit basically, they basically came out and said,
we are not going to do anything that allows piracy on this system, but
we're also not going to put anything in this to stop somebody else from continuing
this work and enabling pirates. Be like, I give it three hours.
They are they are chaotic, yes, podcast, Yeah, yeah, they're
totally. They're totally just leaving it alone, and they're like, we're not
gonna do it, but we're not gonna judge anybody else who does it.
So who knows what the future holds for Vida. And also, you know,
like you have to imagine that Sony is furiously prepping a firmware that fixes
the sexploit. Are you sure they're not just like or maybe they they're they're
only wait a minute, wait, what what is the veto? What we
weren't gonna sell anything? Oh wait, we did make that thing, right.
They did say they're gonna stop making first first party games, right.
I think they kind of throw in the towel on that thing. Yeah,
that's still nice for cross play stuff every once in a while. It's my
favorite PlayStation machine, like in terms of playing old PlayStation games, like they
do pop on that screen. Yeah, the original old version of the Vita.
I can't get around the second one because I know the screen is worse,
but the original, like things really look nice. Do all the PS
one classics run on there? Like? Yeah? Does it? Just guarantee
you have to do some funky things Like I could play Metal your solid I
had to go through some weird you had to install it on a PS three
yeah, and then not unpack it. I had to plug it in and
then move it over right right, Yeah, but you can't download it to
that. It's weird, it's stupid, but yes, you can get every
PlayStation one classic to work on there. I will keep my eye on this,
telling myself it will be very cool for emulation, and then never actually
care about it. Yeah. Like was one of those things that how many
times you can think sounds awesome and then you totally don't give a shit,
Like how many time you're gonna boot up Super Mario World, right the first
half of the first level, and I'd have the ram list in my head
right perfect? Right? Yeah? Uh yeah, uh pretty damn slow week
for news. There's not a whole lot else going on Xbox one. Man,
I mean, yeah that came up. Yeah, I thought you canceled
your pre orders. I did when I thought that I wanted the five hundred
gigabyte and when I found out that might be coming out in like December or
Amazon didn't say when exactly, I was like, man, I'm not gonna
wait till December, and I'm not gonna spend one hundred bucks just to have
it for eight months until uh Scorpio. And then they said, oh,
I guess. I was like, all right, yeah, yeah, that's
out in like two weeks. I think, so, yeah, I totally
mine showing up on the twenty third. That's the three hundred dollars one.
Yeah, okay. It comes with the Halo five and Halo Masterchief Collection physical
disk for Halo five and then download for master Chief. I'll give you that.
I guess three trade in program at like Best Buyer or something like that.
Trade in like a PS four or Xbox one get one hundred and twenty
five bucks. So I don't know if you're just going with the five hundred
gig version, that might be worth it. I don't know. You've got
an external drive, right, you can just yeah everything's to terabyte. Yeah,
thing out and plug it in. I mean, if you've got like
a four K TV that you want to use it on otherwise like to buy
no HDRR just it's four K R No, it's capable of four K games
corpox one. I mean the thing up shield, This thing will upscale to
four K rights on the product details things cable four K compatible, it'll it'll
output it for it'll play four K Blue ray. Yess, I missed that
detail. I think HDR even then, that's standing. I think HDR is
more interesting thing. But TV's that have each and I think that's what they
were trying to, Like, I really drive home was the HDR stuff right,
Okay, black or blacks you know better contrast better lacks ye value skill.
Oh yeah. If there's if there's one thing I can trust about Dan,
it's that he's not done making foolish purchasing decisions. So that's why I
imagine, I imagine the four KTV will not be four behind. That's why
I'm so mad about the vetas still is because I bought it on day one,
never played it. Well, I mean I played it, but just
for like reviewing and stuff like. I never did it for fun. I
wasn't mad about the three DS until the three DS got cool. Yeah,
I want to see that on like a curved uh screen? Yeah, I
did buy a curved screens. No, I'm talking about back then when I
bought it and you made fun of me, and I was like, wait,
maybe I should think about why I bought this. I didn't. I
thought it was the best idea. No, you were kidding. And I
looked it up and it sounded like it might actually be stupid, so I
canceled it before I showed up. You bought it for like, you bought
it for like ten minutes, right, Yeah, maybe I technically had one
coming to me for ten I remember that day you just went and bought before
I was sending a links to like reviews and stuff. I'm like, yeah,
that's a really good, really good deal. Man, totally get that.
That's what got me. Look, if you wouldn't have said anything,
I probably would have just got it. Yeah, but like, why is
Jason trying to help me here? Yeah? I don't know about this.
I do want one of those twenty one by nine curved Honitors though. Oh
yeah, yep, those things look pretty good, and then just put it
this far, like half a foot from my face and just play racing games.
That's the only way the curve makes sense, right when it's like right
in your face. Yeah, but uh yeah, we've we've got one of
the Xbox one sas in here when you we haven't had a chance to crack
it open. Yeah, we should crack it up video of it. And
also, I guess we have to go buy a four KTV now, Yeah,
I guess though we just submitted our key three budget crap. Sorry,
No, I'm seeing those for like seven hundred bucks for like decent brands sometimes
on sale, Like should I buy one now? Or should I wait until?
Ol Leeds? I want one? Are you gonna start the same thing?
Peterborough? I think I want to sticker on it? Also, he
just wants to spend money. I also just gave all of my DVDs to
good Will, like dozens and dozens, if not over a hundred, and
bought the Blue raybers so they're all rap. Still, you're not even go
to give all those the good Will? Not even You're not even done buying
Blu Ray versions of all your movies yet now, pretty much. I can't
wait. I can't find Jackass two on Blue Ray, and dirty work is
usually really expensive. I give you, I will give you. I will
give you permission to skip those two and start getting the four kakes. Okay,
four kids, it's time. It's time now. But realize four KTVs
doing in these trunks of these cars, don't buy four kakes? Should probably
you should probably wait? Okay, if olds will be reasonable with an we're
waiting for me reasonably. But that's totally what I'm waiting for. I'm hoping
low latency. I'm hoping next year is the year that they are like decent
regular people prices. Okay, now's the time to buy CRTs. I'll tell
you why. Oh oh yeah, huh. You think people have nostalgia for
a lot of things right now, right, CRTs haven't quite hit. Okay,
the cusp of that way hasn't crashed like some speculative nostalgia here. Oh
dude, yeah, I'm finding great like sttvs that have component video inputs.
Right, you'd think, like, yeah, that was a thing, it
must be common. No, a lot of the t's out there people have
or whatever. But you're paying the same price for these really nice ones.
I just bought a flat well okay, so yeah, you're getting thing here.
Yes, the one I got for twenty bucks with all that was flat,
but I'm okay with that. You see some weird elements that appear that
shouldn't, you know, on a screen like old Nisky might see like a
weird border that shouldn't be there. But the real thing to hunt for right
now are PVMs, which are the professional monitors that used to be like five
thousand dollars CRTs right that people are offloading now for like one hundred bucks,
two hundred dollars. And these have like SDI inputs, you know, pure
RGB signals that you can tap into and get the best out of your console.
They look they just make old games look so freaking good. And I've
got some of them floating around here at Little Sony's. Yeah, I've I've
got my hands on those, and they're not that great. Oh. I
bought one off eBay that showed up damaged. Luckily, I found a guy
who owns a video production company like two hours after outside of San Francisco.
So one day after work I just hold ass out to him and bought it
for one hundred bucks. He's like, yeah, like right after you send
me that offer, like everyone else, like I got all these crazy offers
or this, that and the other. And I was like, it's because
people like me want to play their own games in these things. And he's
like, I thought this was junk, and a lot of people think they're
junk. But if you want to get a nice TV with low latency,
my friend, you want to CRT TV. Wow, you're blowing this wide
open. They're gonna be hard to find. Now, these are all these
are all SD shut up. Some of them are HT as well, and
uh yeah, so that's even better. I mean, granted, it's really
you don't need it if you're trying to do and they're all a thousand pounds,
yes, sort of. I've got a fourteen inch one that I'm super
happy with. It's big. It's actually right out there. We've got any
hooked up to it. Most of these are these all mostly in the smaller
arrange them. Yeah, I think the I mean you can find some that
are big, but it's not at that point it's just not worth it to
forklift kind of. I mean, go for nineteen twenty inches, that's like
the real sweet spot. But you're gonna be paying maybe, I don't I
know if any has talked numerous times about his. I think it's like thirty
six inch HDTV CRT that he had, so it took three people to move
those those are really stuffing. Was insane, Yeah, for two hundred pounds.
Yeah, the h the HD PVM like professional monitors, those do not
have the same problem because they don't have like six inch thick glass to make
it like a weird flat screen thing like these are just they'd pretty much way
the same as are kind of parts. So you just you just gotta kind
of hunt. You gotta kind of hunt. Look on craigslist. There's no
one place to go to look for the stuff. EVA is pretty good,
honestly, but the problem is shipping. Yeah, so find someone who hit
like sells a lot of these things, understands how to pack that. Yeah.
I ordered an old Commodore monitor yes years ago too, like fifteen years
ago, to play like said the fourteen o two. I think it was
the one. I think it was the one everybody gets. Yeah, but
yeah, it showed up totally busted. That's too bad. Those common mute
monitors are beautiful. Yeah, speaking of input lag and like TV's I remember
I wasn't able to beat Tyson at that Sotopop Benski's bar for the longest time.
I eventually did, and I kept doing the thing, getting free bottle
of champagne everything. Walk by there with my family this weekend, and you
know, last time my sister was in town and went in there and one
the champagne. I was like, oh, okay, that's a fun little
trick. I'll go in there. I'll win us some champagne for free.
And uh. I asked them about it, like you usually have to give
your ID at the bar, and they're like, oh, no, we
don't do that anymore, which I don't even think they did. I don't
even think they do video No, no video games anymore. I think they're
moving away from the video game thing. All the monitors were off, that's
because you sucked them dry. They still have the poster up that says beat
Mike Tyson get free champagne with the pictures of people who have done it,
but they don't have the video games set up. It's just it's like a
club now. It just plays like Top forty stuff and it's always super packet
sucks now, so spoil the fun for everybody. On those photographs? How
many versions of you and different cost games are there? Like one with like
just a must there are always two photos? They have not had the camera
a couple times past way, how many times have you done it? I
think four? Yeah, man, it sounds right. Yeah. How does
a bar called Soda popin Skis not have video game stuff like that? Makes?
I think they realized they were probably going to get more money by catering
to like club douches than video game nerds because it's a kind of an obscure
reference. I guess it's a good name for a bar, and it's a
cool reference. Like me, you know, it is cool. But I
think the average person who likes video games like today, who didn't grow up
playing those sort of things. That's why you put Pokemon stuff all over it,
because that's hot now, Pete, Yeah, go on, all right,
oh Pokemon insurance yeah yeah yeah, So don't go to the bar anymore.
It's not good. That's a plumber. Yeah, that's a shame.
Bo did you do did you do it here? Before you did it there?
The first time was here? Uh yeah, I'm on the live thing.
Uh yeah, with that long running video series. That's right, Yes,
many many installments, months of training to get to that point. I've
planned on that being a month long feature. When we recorded a Game Informer,
there were at least three hours before we tapped out or something like that.
Yeah, but I had them antagonizing me and actively rooting against me.
I had drew in my corner rooting for me. And it turns out when
I don't have goobers like Joe Juba sitting there being crabby, I can do
things just fine. There will several instances in which you were like, okay,
everybody be quiet, and we were quiet for like the entire Yeah,
but I'm still in the same room as Joe Juba and he sucks. So
that that kind of led to all that grace under pressure. Man, it's
the only way to become the champions. I am the Uh yeah. So,
like I said, not much going on this week. The only other
thing I have is did we talk about that fan made Star Wars Battlefront three
project a few months ago, which is like apparently going on to Steam.
Well I don't think we talked about that at the time, but yeah,
so so, yeah, like remember that the LucasArts was making a Battlefront three
ages ago and like a bunch of stuff, Yeah, like a bunch of
concept stuff got out there, maybe some footage even it was like all that
weird stuff with like weird dark Side, zombie obi Wan and all that okay
stuff that was gonna be in there. But it was also the one where
they were finally going to realize the whole like, oh, you'll be fighting
on the ground and then you'll get in your ex wing and fly in space
and fight there. That that whole thing, and you know that game obviously
never came to be, so like, here's this group of fans who have
been making it anyway. Uh, And it was called it was the full
title for that Galaxy and Turmoil, but Star Wars Galaxy, but yes,
it was. It was Star Wars specifically, and like, yeah, they're
making it for free. They were never going to charge for it, but
they were going to distribute it on Steam, which I always thought seemed crazy.
Yes, sure enough, Luke starts and Disney finally came calling. Yeah,
who would have thought, is it? I mean, because they've always
really really embraced like a fan made movies and yeah, like you a humbrew
games and shit like that, and yeah, I mean they have like fan
film festival. Sure. Well. To make a long story short, it
sounds like this was because EA currently has a Star Wars Battlefront series running.
There is active licensing going on around the thing, so of course they're not
going to let some splinter group make another Battlefront off to the side, Splinter
Group, why wouldn't you just take the Star Wars name off of it?
So I'm glad you asked, uh, yeah, the yeah, Like it
sounds like the team was just asked to discontinue the project completely, and the
head of the project made the totally baller move of requesting a meeting with the
Disney executives. Nice, and apparently they got that phone meeting and worked out
a deal where they can take that stuff out and continue calling it Galaxy and
Turmoil and basically, you know, they're taking Star Wars out, so it's
gonna be original ships, original weapons and all that stuff, but laser blades,
yes, exactly. Uh, but they're gonna keep making it. And
that seems like a really good thing for people who wanted that battle Front three,
right, like an actual battle Front three not the battle Front they got
made if they can pull it on, which, well, yeah, that
game's okay, it's not bad. Yeah, it's fine. I've played.
I've played quite a bit of it. I am bummed battle Fronts. It
could have been so much better. But it's okay. It's fun. But
it's it's very simplistic, you know. Yeah, yeah, less, it's
it's just kind of an average modern first person shooter with Star Wars on it.
Yep. I was watching a documentary, uh called The Long Way Round,
which is Ewan McGregor and his buddy riding millorcycles from London across the continent
of Eurasia, flying to Alaska and then riding to New York. Uh.
And this is right after or soon after all the Star Wars movies came out,
Okay, And at one point he says, I had my first Star
Wars. I was Zobi wan Kenobe and I was naked. That would have
been a way better movie. Yeah. Great documentary. By the way,
it's Netflix. It's a it's a TV series like ten episodes or so.
But yeah, keep an eye on that through. I know you're a bit
of a Battlefront fan. Yeah, so yeah, all right, Well,
really scraped barrel for news this week, and there was Peter, you know,
anything else going on the scuttle, But there's a new Famicom game coming
out. You can't. I'm sorry, it's all I can talk about.
Yeah, I mean, you're you're you're playing the role of Jeff Gersmith this
week, so I guess it's appropriate thing you to bring some some retro stuff
in here. Yeah. A couple years ago someone made this game called Kira
Kira Star Night, and it's getting an official Famincom release. Now there's a
company that's actually publishing games on Famicom. There was one that came out a
few months back that is sort of like a music sampler kind of thing.
We get to make your own music and play around with that. And dude,
they look like weird like RBI Baseball or Bible Adventure cartridges or no,
they actually look like fam I mean Famicom cartridges didn't have a uniform uh form.
I mean they would range in size and shape and obviously color. Yeah,
so these look like your standard Famcom cart They come in smaller than normal
packaging, but they have cardboard boxes and they have little manuals, so they
have a seal of approval. Okay, So if they wanted to make like
RBI Baseball or Bible Adventures like that form factor like the Gray cartridge and everything,
would they be able to was he's talking about something thing? First of
all, he's talking about actual Famicom cartridges, which I'm totally different from any
S cartridge Okay, like different, like much like more squad, right,
yeah, and they have sixty pins on the board where any S has seventy
two pins. So but here you're right, I think, yeah, those
those were standardized in the US, right, the Gray yes, they were,
okay, yeah, yeah, so that's why you're weird tinking. Tetris
was in the crazy Black Black cartridge with the weird yeah. Yeah, and
a lot of that card is just empty space. Was nothing in there for
the most part. Is this like a pure solar kind of thing, like
a fan made like, yeah, actually are a fan made? These are
just modern fan made things. Yeah? Is it? Is it a shoot
him up? Like all these games seem to be no care for old consoles?
No, but the first one is mostly like a music generation kind of
thing. Here here Star Night is like a side scrolling game. I don't
remember, like the main gameplay can see. But one of the cool things
that it does is it uses parallax scrolling as it's like main like uh oh,
like look at this, you know. So that's that's pretty interesting.
And the music is very good as well. I believe the game was made
by someone who primarily is a musician. It's not a shoot him up?
Okay? Is that pardon me? Or they are? They are they getting
sold? Did you say cover that they're getting sold? Is it a retail
release? Is gonna be in a box? Yeah? Like you can they
the last one was on the shelf at like Yoda Bashi Camera Jam okay for
instance. But they I think they're only making like ten thousand copies, so
they're kind of hard to get. But it comes out and like I maybe
came out today or yesterday. Do you know if they went through a Nintendo
for all this stuff? I mean, like is that they just don't care
they like, I mean, they're at the point where you know, they're
putting out the the that little nes you know. Yeah, so like I
figured, like the brand value again and they might actually care about trying something.
I mean, they were making fit, they were manufacturing Famin cooms up
until two thousand and three, so it's not like they abandoned this console.
Oh yeah, I bought one. It's just stolen the box because why the
hell would you buy a fam Com in two thousand and three? But I
did, like an idiot, I know, like a genius. I think
it was. Was that a re release at that point? Like didn't it
have a different like more modern video out on it? And they had they
released the new famin Coom which which had a standard it looked like our top
loader the one week right, and it had a vy out. And what's
fucking ridiculous about it that is that the top loader we got didn't have a
vy out with the original nes we did we got did have that, Yeah,
yeah, I think right, and you can modit to have our key
or a compositor. When you say avy out, are you're talking about like
that? That? M No? Was not that not their proprietary cable,
although no, yes, I'm the new one they did have. Yeah,
that's what I meant. The proprietary game, the one from like a Cuban
and sixty four. Yes, yeah, they did have that for the new
Family. Yeah, yeah, I should probably get that out of the box
at some point, I'll take it, all right, I'm gonna take that
thing up I've got. I've got some number of dumb old consoles in my
closet. If you do, if you honestly like I would buy that.
I'm looking for a Navy Fammcom right now because I've got a famcond system that
I eat, or the twin sharp Famicom, but I want the top.
See if I actually still have that thing I have? I have a loose
jaguar somewhere, don't want running around my house? Do not find that?
Find that thing your guinea pigs? Yes, give it's John Carlin. Yes,
see, this is what happens when you record live on Tuesday. What's
the world continues to turn outside this room? News continues to break like sands
in the hour glass. Yes, so are the days past? It's deeps
what happened? Uh? Do you like Rocket League? I love Rocket League?
Do you like Overwatch? I haven't played much over Watch? Okay,
I like both of you. Like where you got both of those? What
if they put Rocket League and Overwatch? Because that seems like exactly what they
have just done. Okay, as we have been podcasting, Uh, they've
they announced the first uh the first Overwatch what are they calling it? Seasonal
event? I believe it is the terminology trying to look at this article.
Uh, it's the Summer Games events, in which they have rolled out a
new or is brawl the like their weird little arcade side mode. Is that
right? Sometimes they name it, I think different stuff. Okay, I
don't know, but then they have different like it's like, oh, this
is the super Hanzo brother right, Well that's that's what this is. So
they this is their their newest brawl. It's called Lucio Ball, okay.
And screen shots just look like Rocket League. Like what you're listening to the
audio version of this, Go google it for yourself, but it looks shockingly
like Rocket League. Like the map design, Like if you just showed me
the screenshot apropos of nothing, I would have thought it was just a new
Rocket League map. I saw a screenshot of something mcrea gets in this update,
and it makes me want to play as McCree Giant American Flag shawl.
Yeah. So yeah, they're adding uh, they're adding a new a new
lootbox. This this whole thing appears to be Summer Olympics themed yeah, I'm
not sure if it's actually tied into the Olympics or if it's just in the
spirit of spow. You can't call it the Olympics, right, Well,
that's what I mean big games. Yeah right, Uh, you know what
I don't think it is. There's there's this Overwatch Summer Games twenty sixteen logo
that looks very Olympics like, but I don't think any of it is actually
affiliated with the Olympics. But hey, you know, conveniently timed. But
yeah, they've they've added a new lootbox that's got dan. You were looking
at it on a different site. I don't see this here, but you
said a hundred new items. That's what I was looking at the official like
playoverwatch dot com thing, and I think they said one hundred new cosmetic items.
There is USA flag icon for a player icon, which someone on Twitter
told me that. But yeah, I guess every lootbox again, I just
had time to scan it very bad. Same here. We're just now looking
at this stuff, but breaking. But they say that every lootbox should guarantee
at least one piece from this new collection. Okay, okay, so I
don't know if that means you have to play loose ball or just every loot
box across the board and check this out ladder. What if you just went
and put fifty dollars into Overwatch and then you could just go might not know
because you'd be getting a bunch of these limited time items while you still can
Wow, I don't know how much I'll be able to play Overwatch while I'm
leaving town. It's true, so maybe uh none? So yeah, oh
I'm sorry, never mind, this says these items cannot be purchased with credits.
Oh so you can't use endgame like, Oh, okay, but you
money, But that doesn't disqualify it. You could buy real boxes, you
would think, find your Vita, sell your Vita fund Overwatch. There you
go. Why don't I sell my Vita? I guess I keep. I
keep all the current systems, you know, just in case I need to
have them for coverage pervices. But it doesn't get me. I'm not sure
how current it is. It doesn't. So yeah, yeah, like you
said, it looks like you you're gonna get at least one of these new
one hundred items out of any loot box you open until August twenty second.
I wish I could just buy boxes of just that shit barely three weeks away
before this event ends. Apparently, I'm assuming you get to keep your stuff.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, any any items, surely you get
to uh. And the I'm looking at it on the PlayStation blog ran a
story on this. These items cannot be purchased with credits, and they're heading
back into the vault on August twenty second. So like that end of the
vault phrasing, it sounds almost Disney esque, where it's like they're gonna They're
gonna put it back in the vault for a year or two and then maybe
they'll come back out. Maybe you'll get another shot at getting these items at
some point in the future. Uh. Or maybe this is their first stab
at creating items scarcity so they can set up a player marketplace you can resell
your hats. They've never done anything that. It would be a completely insane
thing to do a digital jpeg of even Murray from the Demitory Jeff plays hold
your tongue. It's we'll talk about that. You're gonna talk about shortly.
I could not have guessed you would talk about this. We'll get we'll get
to that Okay, it doesn't seem to be in here, Wheelhouse. We
should uh, we should check this out. This is too bizarre not to
look at at some point this week. Oh, I'll be looking at it.
Yeah, don't you worry. Yeah, it's I couldn't find I was
trying to find some footage of Lucio ball. Apparently they just streamed some of
it, but that just ended and I couldn't find the archive. Yeah,
like it's in Overwatch. It's a three v three mode. There's a ball
and goals like it was like Metric Prime Federation Force. Sweet. Sure there's
a there's a Rocket League soccer whatever? Does that totally have that? Yeah?
You run everybody at the ball? Is everybody just gonna make Rocket League
now because that's where we're going. Soccer is a hot new thing. Yeah,
I guess so. Yeah, this this sounds cool and weird, yeah,
and super unexpected. But it's cool to see them updating this quickly with
such odd things like when kids and be useful things like you know, fixing
Viva and like they've made really good updates of that game. They're out.
Yes, that's fair. All right, there's your late breaking news. Let's
move on. To some emails bobcast at the giant bomb dot com. Is
the email address hard not to sing it? I know, right to resist
that urge send your emails there might read them on the show. Christopher sent
this email. Kind of weird to read this without Jeff here. I feel
like he would want to weigh in, but it's what he gets for being
out. Christopher wants to know about the or he wants to hear what the
Game of the Year of Giant Bomb's Game of the Years is. I liked
the Game of the Generation talk a while ago, so I wanted to ask
you how you would rank the winners of your Game of the Year awards.
So far, they were grand Theft, aut of four, Uncharted two,
Dan's writing them down, prepping for serious debate. Uncharted two, Yeah,
g t A four, Uncharted two, Mass Effect two, Skyrim x com,
Enemy Unknown, The Last of Us, Shadow of mordor Super Mario Maker.
Oh man, man, that's it's a pretty good list. It's a
good list. About nothing against Shadow of Mortar, but I'm gonna say that's
probably the bottom of the list. That was a week year. But that
is a great game. It's a fantastic game. But yeah, that's what
I would say. That's MM I would I'd say ex Com would also be
near like X's awesome, But I don't. This is some pretty stacked competition.
It's probably those are these are all good good codes? I would say,
yeah, I'd say those are probably rounding out the bottom the list.
I'd say contenders for top the last of us M. I could maybe get
behind that. I really love that game, Mario Maker. I think Mass
Effect was overrated, but I'm turned To two is pretty amazing. Backsto is
really good. They're all good games. I don't they've you know what is
arguably better Red Dead Redemption. Red Redemption is way better than also came out
the year the mass Efect two came out. Oh really, yes, you
guys pike Massfect two over Red Dead? Some people take were you fighting?
Were you fighting the good fight? Tried? Okay, Red Dead's way better.
Jeff really didn't like Red Dead, Mass Effects fine. Sometimes you got
to choose your battles. Aspect two is a really good game. G t
A four is uh, it's very good. These are all really good.
It was burnout on there No, No burnout was the year before started the
site damn it's that was a seven, I believe. I feel like we
all had to vote on it. I don't think Mario Maker would win this
because it seems like me and Jeff are definitely the like crazy ones. Yeah,
yes, yeah, one of the best games of all times. Yes,
but I recognized that that would not win this argument. If we were
putting it to this, I respect the hell out of super Mario Maker would
not put it at the top of this list. Uncharted two is a weird
one because it was like so standard setting when it came out. Yeah,
but then they've done that again a couple of times. It's less exciting to
look back on. First of all, they have topped themselves, you know.
Yeah, it's the last of us. I don't think we've had a
game like that. That's that's the top of that. Uncharted four is like
kind of a better Uncharted two, and it is just about every way it
is. Should we take out Uncharted two? Yeah? Yeah, Skyrim is
really good, but it had some issues. Yeah, it's really really good,
we'll deny that. But this has to be in the context of today,
right, because this is inherently looking I guess, I guess, so,
Yeah, you're right, And look at how we reacted to fall Out
four, which was, you know, the same type of systems that I
don't kind of tired of that. Well, it wasn't just that. I
mean I think Fallout four head weaknesses and like the like the writing and mission
dead and stuff that Sky remarkably did better in a lot of cases. Yeah,
Like I Sky had a better world world design. Dragons are cool.
I think if that's the case, then GTA four doesn't really better. Yeah.
Absolutely, But again, at the time, four was like holy shit.
Also, let's hear the medical Soft four came out. I'm just gonna
say that. Oh man, I mean the year we met Drebin. Yeah,
she never had Yeah, Monkey is great? Four is fun? Are
we taking four? Monkey drinks soda? Yes? I keep thinking he smoked
cigarettes too, But I might be confusing him with just like YouTube monkeys that
the monkeys in your dreams monkeys on YouTube, that's sure. I'm pretty sure
he does. Yeah, yeah, yeah on those brakes. No, it's
like in the game, are there Yeah? Okay? Good? Are there
a lot of good monkeys on YouTube? Oh? Yeah, I've got a
someone. I'm going to find the best monkeys if you ask Dan about someone
someone who's responsible for amassing the list of like weird dumb YouTube videos because I'm
doing Pat Bear's paneling the first time. Hey, here's a tip. Yeah,
there's an island where there's just a bunch of monkeys that are kind It's
like resort island and people I go and they, you know, sit on
the sand and get cocktails. There's a whole species a monkey on this island
that are like addicted to alcohol, and so they sprint up to people that
are just chilling with cocktails and they just straight up deal their drinks, run
up onto a picnic table or in a drink or a tree and get really
drunk and fall out of the tree and stuff like look at that. Look
all right, drunk monkeys beach or something. Drunken monkeys are a good lead
for for dumb YouTube videosy beach for sure. Uh, I'm leaning towards Last
of Us. Yeah, that's a it's a pretty good argument. What do
you have that hasn't been eliminated Skyrim aspect to g t A four and last
Us? And I feel like we've already had arguments against Skyrim and GTA four.
I'm not super hot on aspect too, I am. I mean,
it's good, it's really good, solid nine. I want to bring Mario
Maker back in the discussion. I know this isn't like my discussion, but
that would be mine probably like Mario Maker, don't make me play that you
don't actually work your card. These discussions get cut throat. No, no,
no, go ahead. I think there's an argument. There's there's so
much to talk about with Mario Maker. It is bigger than just like,
let's look at this game under a microscope. Sure it does, yeah,
sure, but I understand you know I don't work here. You guys hate
Mario Maker for some reason. No, no, nobody like ye. I
don't think anybody hates Mario Maker here. But but you don't love it?
Do you know? It's not? I super love it. This is my
I love it. I love it. I top of the list. I
think the dissenters respected it but didn't love playing it, or like ny Ny
Venny had a great argument that was like, you know, you never knew
what you were gonna get when you sat down with that thing. You know,
like you might get a run of crappy levels and just not have a
great time. With it, and the editing stuff is not exactly the game,
Yeah, but it's it's great. It's some of the most fun I've
head with ever. Has anyone here ever dabbled in the Super Mario World mod
community noyea. That's where Jeff was coming from with that stuff, which is
why he flipped as ship over it. I think just because he had kept
up with some of that stuff, like yeah, have you have you like
looked at m RAM hacks over the years, like SMW central dot net.
I think maybe is like they've been the community forever and there are some really
amazing hacks there in the community built their own tools for making their own Mario
levels. So yeah, I mean yes, spending years like in transhit in
like patching and x y Z like Mario Maker was just a really awesome convenience.
Yeah, but then just blew up socially as well, like like an
officially endorsed and polished ninto no product that that like legitimizes the ramhacks in the
game. I could Yeah, I could see on that too. I could
see when you're coming from that scene like that, how exciting that would be.
Let me propose this to the board, Red Dead Redemption. Let's scrab
everything, love to write the ship. Okay, let's rewrite history, all
right? Red Dead Redemption is the game of the Year of the Game of
the Year official bomb cast lore. I was I was about ready to go
along with your last of us argument if Red Dead, but it's not better
than the last yeast than Yes, I would say the last of that list,
I'd think. I feel like that's the one to me that still stands
out the most. Yeah, yeah, I mean they just put out that
remastered thing like last year or two years ago, and that was still just
incredible. Maybe we'll actually have that game game of the Generation discussion one day.
Oh God, and you should join us. I'm officially expending the invite,
all right. Yeah, weird taste though, that's the weird or the
better We're all about it. Uh. Email comes in from Eddie speaking of
Mass Effect. Y'all briefly mentioned this on UPF last week, but it's something
that's been bugging me a bit. We've heard practically nothing about Mass Effect.
Lots of people were expecting info at E three, yet all we got was
that behind the scenes dev video. They've pushed it once, but what are
the odds that it actually hits that March twenty seventeen window. They're saying it's
at now. Given the lack of info, I'm thinking way low. But
should it be a concern from as effect fans that there has been so little
info? Thanks for your time. It does seem surprising that they have not
shown anything regarding character or story or anything. Ye, March is still a
little ways it is. I guess it is for a game that high profile,
like a game you would expect a marketing thing. You expect three's worth
of trailers or something like real trailers, you know, like look at like
you know BioShock Infinite. How many trailers and looks of the game for like
three years did we get like I put a new mass effect on the level
of BioShock Infinite as far as like hype and so for us to be a
six months out or whatever, Yeah, it's weird for me. I think
the big thing is this is the last E three they had to show this
game at before it comes out, and yeah, and they kind of didn't
like that seems correct. Where are they gonna show it now? Games calm
when games comes like super soon, Right, It's like two weeks Nintendo Direct
and ex exclusive lunch title tgs uh Space World, I mean whatever, Like
we go on and on about like you don't need trade shows to promote video
games anymore, right, Like they can do whatever they want you kind of
do I think I do. M I don't think you Okay, I don't
think you need it, but I think it's to your benefit to have access
to that stating to leverage I guess, I guess so. But I mean
if they spent like two weeks hyping up like hey, we're gonna have the
full on mass effect andromed to reveal like right here at like we will stream
thirty minutes of this game, you will meet all the characters, you will
see what's going on, like like people would show up for that. Yeah,
like exact, Zac Efron and Snoop Doug and Jamie Fox show up for
that full, full on red carpet treatment. Yeah. Uh. I mean
that's kind of what they did with Battlefield One. They had that like their
own little Lives train forward. So I mean, at least when you you're
at a big trade show, you have the draw of the things that aren't
your game, kind of pulling people in at least giving them the opportunity to
maybe consider what you're going to show versus like, hey, people who already
love this thing. I guess so, But there's a lot of people who
love massfect Yeah, I think a lot of people would show up for that,
A mass amount of people. Yes, good stuff. I don't know,
like worry might be a little premature with this many months to go,
but I do think it's weird. Yeah, it was disappointing, if nothing
else, Like, I want to see more about that game, Antonio writes
in from Monterey, California, Land of Aquariums. It's about turn based strategy.
Actually, go on, I would love to hear your thoughts on the
current work of Intelligent Systems. Looking through their Wikipedia page, they've been working
through a rotation of Fire Emblem, Paper Mario, and the Pushmost series,
with Codename Steam being the lone different game for the past couple of years.
Is there any chance they will ever revisit Advanced Wars. Back in the three
twenty fourteen when Codename Steam was revealed, the producers stated that they are a
quote always thinking about the next iteration of Advance Wars and Fire Emblem. But
while Fire Emblem got Birthright, Conquest, Revelation, and a phone game sometime
in the future. Not a peep about Advanced Wars. When the EU was
initially revealed, I thought having that touch screen begged for some kind of turn
based strategy game, but alas it never arrived. I put over three hundred
hours. It's a dual strike, and I feel like I'm one of the
few people who enjoyed the shift in tone that came with Days of Ruin.
Is there any chance for a return? Well, did they make Battalion Wars
for the GameCube, because that was like them trying to like totally shift what
Advanced Wars was. It was like this, you could change between the units
on the battlefield, but it's like a three D action gameliar with it,
but I haven't played it. Was that was like a largely action oriented Oh
yeah, totally, That's what I'm saying. Like it. I wonder if
they just I would assume they did. I wonder if they wanted to keep
fire emblem, is like, hey, let's keep this traditional, you know,
turnbased, because the fire emblem on GameCube, what was the Path of
Radiance or the Radiance I think there was there's maybe another one. Yeah,
there were two on GameCube one, but they were both turn based strategy things.
So I wonder if that's when they wanted to like, Okay, we'll
do this stuff with fire Emblem and then we're gonna do like more action stuff
with Battalion Wars and stuff. But than no one really cared about Battalion Wars.
Yeah, I mean they never got kicked back to it. Battalion Wars
was not intelligence system. Okay, so that was not developed by that according
to Wikipedia. But I mean think about this, right, Fire Emblions got
these and they changes the game to game for the most part. But you've
got these really like characters you can identify with, right, Like they kind
of care carry the experience in a way, like this fantasy thing that people
know and they always people are hungry for that right now. But I mean
people also like military shit, Like I know, I know it's way more
into the military stuff, but military with like a light anime dressing on.
Yeah, the weird whimsical like child general stuff and Advance wars. His thought
was super cool. I like it, and yeah, way more into that
advocate Like, I feel like there's not a lot of people who are hungry
for that. Yeah, it seems like the way people go, like people
use their minds for fire emblon games now, Like that seems like if they
were going to pick one of those two and stick with it, they made
the right choice. But I mean, hell, just support the old Advance
Wars, yeah, I guess yeah, and that X launch title Dance Wars.
People would love that. I think it's been long enough now that if
they did that, people would go fucking all right, yeah, like give
me that thing. I want new Advance Wars. Let's be honest. Code
names Steam was crap. It was ever played it, but man, like,
did you like the whole like Americana? Like I hate it when everything's
just try too hard with that stuff, Like it just felt me like America,
like just oh wacky, maybe Braham Lincoln's I'm just it's not the honest
American nor I don't like that stuff. So and also the game, Yeah,
it was that great. Even after they fix the turn time thing,
or they didn't even fix it, it was still pretty long. It just
let it made you a little bit faster. Yeah, it's just the core
game itself is not that great, all right, Dan, Yes, the
time has come for what this comes in from Jordan. I know Jeff is
out this week, so this is for Dan. But someone sold an Eva
Marie card from the ww tops game and quotes for about ninety dollars, and
then he quotes, yeah, uh, he quotes the Reddit post that explains
why. While there's no sane excuse for purchasing a jpeg of Eva Marie from
ninety three dollars, here's the backstory. Bass cards in the app have different
color variants. Black cards are the rarest. Only three copies of this card
had been pulled from packs before she was called up to the main roster.
After that they were considered sold out. Thus, with only three copies in
the world and no more to be produced, it is the rarest card in
the app that said, yes, this is bonkers. I read that post
on our slash squared circle. Does that exact post that I just read?
Yeah, Yeah, I'm on that. Yeah, I'm on their lot.
Good stuff. Uh sure, I mean it. It's kind of funny that
if the rarest most valuable card is you know, the person who's whole gimmick
right now is that they're terrible at wrestling basically. Uh sure, she's she's
really bad at talking and wrestling. They realize everyone who's booing her because she
has not improved in any way. Really she's at she's smart enough to lean
into it. Then that was not her decision. I see, No,
that was certainly not her decisions. See, but she is kind of owning
the like like her new character, she's just this very vain like she comes
out a narrators like the most exquisite, the most intelligent, the most exotic,
beautiful, gracious woman like she comes out and wears an ivy from Soul
caliber thing now and just poses a bunch and doesn't talk like so basically,
So basically that card got discontinued because her she got called up to status in
the in the league changed. Well, she was on raw man, Okay,
I won't go too deep into this. Okay, she was on raw.
Basically, everyone realized she could use a lot of work. They center
down to NXT. She didn't really improve. But then they need to do
this draft and fill out the rosters, and they need to have two separate
women's divisions basically because they had Raw and SmackDown. And so they're like,
I guess we gotta bring even Mari up. So now she's back up.
So now you can't put out an XT card with even Mariannic not on the
NXT roster. Okay, ninety three dollars well spent for jpeg of even right,
yep, I'm officially endorsing them. I think it really dumb. It
really nailed it when you said it's the rarest card in the entire app.
There you go, the rarest jpeg. Yeah, they can never make another
one. You can google image search though, and probably find that day.
Enjoy that jpeg. Yeah, let's see. J D writes in short and
sweet question, if you guys had to invent a new standard Tetris piece that
will be found in all Tetris games, what would it be? I've thought
about damn it. That was my answer. You wouldn't never rotate it.
You would never rotate it. But I guess that's what the box. You
never rotate the box. But I still, you know, he already got
the box. The box already feels that you don't need another one that you
don't rotate. But what if you got that one first? You'd be mad
every time. I guess there are other pieces that do that, But right,
you just put it in the middle and then had to do the little
slide under thing. You're trying to think, is there any limitation on tech
pieces that it's not obvious, like they're all like four four blocks you can't
total or something like that. Oh no, no, but I mean like
they're all as they exist. They all four blocks. I was gonna say,
any do any of them use more than four? Box t the l
the box, the little squiggly they're all four, right, they're all four.
I think the only way you can go is if you do like a
non contiguous configure ration, like only at a corner. So if breaks the
rules he split the box like the top and the bottom and shifted the top
over two like only a corner would be touching. You could do a staircase
as well, like one. That's too man, that's too many. Yeah,
that's too much. You could you could do a plus without a central
piece. That No, they need to be one. I don't think you
even physically can put four boxes together, can you? And keeping it a
solid piece that hasn't been done before. You can't. Probably that's why those
are the pieces, because that's all Because that's possibilities that plus one would be
tough because yeah, man, yeah, they nailed all of them. Respect
that's just the l Yeah, it's the perfect game. I love watching this
unfold in front of it. Who needs who needs? No man Sky,
like you just played Touches forever? Yeah, I'll players until I die.
Sure was it last week? We're trying to pick the perfecture, the best
Toucher's game. Oh shit, we didn't even talk about Tricky. Towers is
cool. Towers is cool. Also, it's not Tetris. No like the
anti Tetris. Maybe it uses the Tetris. It uses the Tetris Peaches pieces,
which I didn't realize they could like legally get away with, and the
Tetris peaches, and yes, a few Peaches in there too, but I
assume its line clear. Yeah, it's because you don't clear lines. And
also, like there's physics, so they don't all land cleanly like they can.
They can tilt and fall over and stuff. Yeah, everything about the
gameplay is pretty different, outside of the fact that you are kind of like
assembling these pieces together. But it's not like they can trademark like a square
ship. Probably know if the game plays totally different and when that's an illegal
yeah, I don't. I don't know. I don't know what their copyright
covers and how that stuff works. Yeah, it's all about height basically.
Yeah, and if you reach a certain height, at least in the game
ode that we were playing on up for one of them, if you reach
a certain height, then you get a magic power and then you can use
against other people you were trying to build their town. It's kind of it's
a little like Tetris Battle Guide in in that way. It's cool. I
enjoy it. We should, we should play more of that. It's free
on PlayStation Plus as of today. Also isn't Yeah okay, yes, it's
out on Steam too, but but yeah, it's free, free multiplayer.
Yeah, it's got me more Internet. Yes, online players. It's a
it's a neat game. Apparently they had done a mobile game that's similar under
a different name. I forget the name of it, but that's also out
there. Uh, let's see. Andrew from Halifax Nova Scotia wrote in,
we've kind of talked about No Man Sky enough, just kind of asking what
everyone's relative like type level or level of interest is in the game. Cautious
optimums were all, yes, yes, that's same here a great way to
put it. Yeah, I'm excited. I am. On the one hand,
I am fucking dying to play that game, but not even from the
standpoint that I want to be entertained by it or enjoy it. At this
point, I just need to know what is in there, and like,
no, if it's good or not, it's reached this like mythic proportion,
you know, Yeah, which I think is in a lot of ways unfortunate.
Yeah, yeah, all the stuff going. When that happens to a
game, it can never live up to it. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
What's a good example of that of fans, you know, blowing their
expectations the way had a proportion and then no fault at the developers own in
that reaching in I don't know this maker. This one almost feels a little
unique in that way, Like just the scale of it is so insanely huge.
I mean I convinced myself as a kid that, like I was going
to be having full on conversations every day with my ceman. But that's not
really sagas fault. Maybe just weren't playing it right. Doom three, Uh
yeah, Doom three is a good example, actually, sure. Yeah,
Like the hype around that. The way that thing looked was definitely one of
those moments where three, uh yeah, Fantasy thirteen we would have to come
out first. Ah, you think maybe it wasn't. I feel like I
feel like expectations had kind of plateaued for Final Fantasy by the time thirteen came
around. Really, yeah, I think so, I disagree, Really I
do. I feel like thirteen was it after it was it after thirteen when
people started like, yea of lowering. What the Yeah? Maybe because they
released a linear Final Fantasy game. I mean that was that was kind of
the biggest shake up apart from eleven, which was online. Sure, yeah,
twelve go back to tactics. Twelve is like the same team that made
Tackle. I know that a great story and all that. Like that came
the people who love twelve fucking love twelve. But I feel like not everybody
loved twelve, and that's kind of how I That's why I feel like maybe
some people had kind of lost some people after that. I feel like,
yeah, but uh, I don't know, stupid games needs to come out
so we can all play it will and move on with our lives in a
week. Yes, that's a few days. Yeah, we're almost there.
Sean from New York writes in about Cross Coast quick looks. Yes, I
have really enjoyed the Cross Coast quick looks, such as the fire Emblem quick
look with Astom and Dan and the more recent Achronoplanes quick look which drew.
I was curious how you guys recorded those quick looks? Did you use Skype
with screen sharing then sync up local audio? Really later for us us to
give up our company's secrets. Okay, you don't have to. You can
decline to answer, or something more high tech than that. I could imagine
that latency between the coasts could make recording and sinking difficult. Thankfully, we
both work in uh CBS offices, so it's uh you know, corporate internet.
Yes, but it is Skype. We do have these special boxes.
They're like a proprietary box that are meant to be used with our our tricast
and it integrates. Yeah, it's basically it's got an SDI in so instead
of like pointing a camera at a gameplay screen, we can pipe gameplay video
feed directly into it. So that's how Vinnie is able to see uh me
playing at Chrono plans And because the Internet is so good, Like, the
picture quality is really not that bad there, and the latency is not bad
exactly. And frankly, the picture quality doesn't really need to be that great
for because they're just a recipient yep. Yeah, yeah, that's not getting
recorded or anything. Yeah, and ideally so for a chrono plans. What
we did, which is what most podcasts that use Skype do, is Vinnie
Record did a local audio track of just him, and Jason recorded an audio
track of just me, and then I edited them both together. So we
didn't actually have Vinnie's Skype audio. We just had our own, uh separate.
That was the first time that we had like muxed the audio right together.
We have done with me and Austin when we did Twilight Struggle that was
using Austin's it was okay. Yeah, I wasn't on that one. Uh
And generally because again of probably our fast internet and there's some settings in that
proprietary box that we have, uh, but you know, it's it's I
think the advantages there are negligible. But the audio quality, I think because
of our bandwidth is is is good, sounds cool, Yeah, it's a
neat it's a neat solution. I like that we have that ability for sure.
Yeah. Yeah, so I missed those guys. Yeah, it's actually,
uh, the hardest part is people's schedules. Like we can, we
can kind of just turn it on and go. Yeah, but you know,
lining up two different offices with their own shooting schedules and stuff in different
time zones. Yeah, for sure. Uh let's see. Next email comes
in from Pavier. It's about the Nintendo NX and VR. So now that
we know that the NX is exactly what we thought it was, or at
least that's the rumors said last week, we will find out surely, and
also know that Nintendo is engaged in VR research. Is it possible that Nintendo
is developing some kind of VR helmet to put your NX into, like the
Oculus Gear VR. What Intendo franchises would you like to play in VR?
F Zero or Star Fox? Maybe I'm gonna say this is a big no,
because the resolution on that screen has got to be really low and if
you if you've got like a five forty p panel and a VR display,
you're just gonna surely it's not that. Why that's what the I think the
VIDA is yeah. But but if they're going after mobile hardware, I mean
they've been doing super high DPI screens there for years. Yeah, but what's
the point you're not competing with like a Samsung probably tablet. You're probably right.
I mean if if the whole, if the whole play the same games
on both screens, angle is correct, I would hope they would both be
ten ADP. That's the main thing for me is that you can actually say,
hey, it's the same number of pixels on both. Yeah, but
I don't know if that's something people care about enough. I think it's all
relative that much doesn't matter to you. Like on the I mean, if
you're comparing ten ADP on a screen that's fifty inches versus five inches, like
you're the math there kind of says, well, you don't need the same
fidelity. Maybe not unless you're colding right in front of your face. But
Nintendo always seems to tailor their hardware for their first party games, and their
first party games don't necessarily like lend themselves to VR outside of like, yeah,
if you want to do a star Fox, but you know we're star
Fox at right now. You know it's exactly their hottest franchise, you know,
Mario Zelda, things like that like that, You're right, like they're
not VR of that, They're not gonna go redesign Zelda to work in VR
or something. Yeah, like the two most iconic characters in game history and
then you don't see them because it's the first person or it's one of those
weird cronos games or whatever. No, I don't think so. I think
also like Nintendo's MO is always to take something, take an idea of something,
and then tweak it. So I don't think if there is some VR
component, it won't be anything directly analogous to something that we've seen. It
won't be just like a Gear VR, and it won't be just like a
you know, an Oculus or Revive. It'll be a Nintendo's own weird take
on it. Sure, if anything like I would, I would probably bet
more toward like a hollow lens sort of thing, yeah, than then standard
VR. If you're a Nintenda fan who's interested in virtual reality, we have
a system for you. It's called the Virtual Boy. That's right. I
don't know a funny solution to fixing a virtual boy. What's up? Take
it apart and put some of the parts in the oven. Cook it.
Which parts the display? Oh? Wow? Yeah. I bought one off
Craigslist about a year or two ago, and the screen had some like weird
effects that kind of went away. But I looked it up because I was
curious enough anyway, and there is like, you know, twenty page long
form threads about the right way to cook your display to like fix it,
we have to cook. What temperature did you settle on? I don't care,
I forgot, I don't know. I looked it up and it was
can you probably could? Good? Sounds safer for sure. Submerge to them,
they'd be in the bag. Yeah, exactly, Yeah, wet,
Yeah, that's true. Let's see. Seth from Shiloh, Illinois writes in
uh, he doesn't remember who said this, but it was Jeff. Uh
so I'll try to paraphrase here. Recently, Jeff mentioned not finding any time
to play handhelds during the NX talk because he doesn't have a bus commute.
Uh. And then Seth says the only answer for the correct timing is the
bath. Yes, I'm serious. Every night I lay in the tub from
the time when the water turns on till the time I drain it when it
starts to get lukewarm, and have my Vita or three DS with me for
about an hour or two an hour and a half per night. It's super
relaxing and lets you get through your handheld backlog, and it could be super
healthy for your skin. Get some organic coconut oil and put a tablespoon into
your bath. It makes you feel like the gold Persian dude from three hundred
when he rises out of this royal bast good email. This is not how
I usually combined my three DS with Yes, okay, usually get a little
a little bit more wild than that. Yeah. So it just made me
think of the Matt Rory dark shower, you know, like combine the two
concepts. He takes dark showers. Yes, Matt Rory will tell you at
length about the dark shower. So it's this is like sensory different It's totally
like a sensory differation. Wow, take a take a dark a lot,
take a dark portable bath. See how it goes. See how it goes
for you. Uh, let's see. I don't take enough baths. I
like that. I know I do it in hotels really, Yeah, usually
have bigger things bigger tubs and everything, and they're nice and clean, you
know, soap scum or I don't know, are you sure you're mine?
Probably? Maybe it's probably true. I don't know. I don't know how
often they're scrubbing those bathtubs, but yeah, I feel comfortable doing it in
hotels. It's good for your immune system. Yeah. Yeah, it's just
a lot of overhead, a lot of overhead on a bath and it takes
it takes a while to yeah, set that up because that's sounds very relaxing.
It's nice after we do like like a PAX panel or something like going
back to the hotel and taking a bath, a bath. It was just
taking a bath. You just lay down in the shower and just let it
spray you from up on high. It's true, that works. That's an
idea. Let it fill it that way, stew in your own fill for
a moment. Let's see another NX questions when comes in from Dan. I'm
catching up on some of the NX stuff that you're a gamer put out,
and it sounds like it won't be backwards compatible with three DS or we you
do you guys think that's the right move for Nintendo or no, do we
know for sure? I don't think we know that. I think, well,
I think that's what your gamer was speculating. If it's a tegrid too
chip, Yeah, for them to be backwards compatible with the what I believe
is still a power PC based architecture, I don't think it's that easy.
They'd have to put that chip in. Probably put the chip in a variant
of it, right, a really sexy dynamic WE compiler just process that stuff
on the fly. But not not an easy problem to solve. No,
but especially if if the rumors are true and there's only one screen, yes,
that's yes, that could also complicate matters, although I mean you could
potentially display both three DS screens on one screen if there was enough. They're
doing stuff, Yeah that's got two screens, not on her but right,
but if you have, I guess you would need to dock the thing to
put it on the TV. Yeah, but there's like a huge expectation of
Nintendo backwards compatibility at this point, right, like the track records pretty good,
they've done it for quite a whole just say, nah, yeah,
they totally could. They totally could. But like, if this is going
to subsume their portable business, Like they're gonna have to sell it to kids,
right, and also to their parents who might look at that and say,
I gotta buy all new games for this, Like the hell of this?
You know what if here's a smartphone? Is it totally out of the
question that Nintendo might release a refined version of the WEU, like a slimmer
game pad. Yeah, but who would he? Guess they released ans again.
Yeah, but I mean the NES sold a lot more than the EU,
you know, true, you know, yeah, yeah, that's what
end. I don't know. Well, I mean, why did they release
the the we in Canada? That was oh yeah, right, that's rights
so weird. Yeah, somebody sent one in, right, Yeah, not
even Nintendo, like like a user sting in, right, didn't that thing?
I had? Like the thing? It was like composite out only I
think there's it's got a lot of limitations. Yeah, that wasn't a GameCube
compatible, even the standard we model they took game keep support at at one
point. Really, yeah, you can find the standard looking weeds that don't
have that panel up top. Really, that's weird, weird? Oh sorry,
yeah, stuff, I'm sorry, stuff, No, you're settling in
nicely here. That's good. She's just pretty chill one of us. Yeah,
yeah, we doesn't I had it. We you never did GameCube stuff
right now, just we just we okay. Yeah, I don't know.
I don't know what the right answer is there for them, and I don't
know how that'll shake out. Uh, let's see when's that supposed to coming
out? March March, March March next year. Yeah, so like Aspect
andromed out. Yeah, anxiously awaiting lunch time. Uh yeah, well though
you're a gamer, said September, Like okay, sometimes September is when we'll
kind of get the full full scoop. When's the next Apple thing? Uh?
The rumors are the phone's gonna come out like the eighth or the sixteenth
of September or something like early September, relatively soon month month or so.
It's getting towards tech Christmas. Yeah. All the rumors about the iPhone seven
sound incredibly boring, like they're kind of very little new about it because this
is the year that you know, I get the two year Yeah, yeah,
cheap phone or whatever. So the rumors about Nightlight the next year sounds
like it's going to be some giant change. But this is just like a
slightly faster, slightly better camera type thing with no headphone jack. Uh,
let's see, Walter writes in why hasn't Nintendo made a Warrior and a Warrior
and Wa Luigi game? That was a little bit of a tongue twister.
It could be the breath of fresh air that the Mario and Luigi series needs.
Just think of all the chan and the shenanigans. Those two knuckle hoods
I can't read right down knuckles. Just think of all the shenanigans those two
knuckle heads could get up to please everyone. Contact as many of your uncles
who worked for Nincindo as you can and make to this happen. Would like
the bad guy would be mister Eyeballs. Wait who mister Eyeballs from Mario Power
Tennis. That's true, he would be the bad guy. That's what they
predicted this back in Mario Power Tennis and the like twenty minute long opening cinema.
I know I talked about exactly what you're talking It's been a while since
I talked about him on the side but YouTube, But if you haven't seen
it, your wall Luigi headcannon is terrifying. Walluigi and Mario were walking along
and they saw a poster of Mario Luigi, I believe, and wall Luigi
draws eyes on top of Luigi's eyes and goes mass their eyeballs. So I
think, wait, are you saying, mister eyeballs has never actually been seen,
No, in person, his name has been said. Okay, so
maybe by saying it back then maybe he you know, welcomed him into mushroom
Kingdom and keeps the bag. Guy. We don't know what he looks like
yet, probably consists of eyeballs of something he unleashed an ancient evil that day.
Yeah, Wallauigi should be player once, So you've safe to say you've
put a lot of thought into the pitch for this game. I have wanted
a Walluigi game, but specifically, but specifically, this sounds like he wants
like a Mario and Luigi RPG starring Warrio, and he's making style that he
used an amper SAMD like he's very much impoying. This should be the new
Mario and Luigi RPGI but was starring those those yeahs. That's what they did
with Mario land Is. They eventually became super Mario Land three, Warrio World
or Warrio Land, Like, just do that do Mario and Luigi Colin,
Warrio and Walluigi and then just that's that serious. That would be good.
Mario can keep doing his weird paper Mario stuff be pretty good. But yeah,
the writing and those RPGs are so good. Let's give the spotlights and
guys who haven't really had it. I could totally see them doing like a
you know, network comedy thing where Luigi doesn't know that they think he is
mister eyeballs. Yeah yeah, and he's he's bad. Yeah, he unwittingly
keeps foiling their plans. Oh man, yeah, we know what. I
held up a Wallouigi Ambo sign at WrestleMania. What happened a few months later
we got a Wallowigi Ambo. I think I know what's got to happen okay
in Orlando next year. Warrio doesn't seem to have the spotless track record though.
I saw that I can't remember the name. But his three D platform,
which I didn't even know. I saw treasure, Yeah, yeah,
I saw some of that during Summer Games. Un quick, I'm like,
it didn't look it's not great, it's it's disappointing. Uh, Warrior Lands
shake it for the wie is actually not bad and uh and the portable stuff
is kind of hit or miss. The Warrior were games are fucking brilliant.
So yeah, Warrio has had a lot of chances. I still like him
a lot, and I want more Warrio focused games. But let's make the
star Wallawigi. Here, it's Walluigi and Warrior's second on the Marquee, not
second on. I just made the change. I just had Wallauigi and Warrio.
That's what my signent wrestleman he is gonna say. And then they have
to make it that way. That might be logo can be like scratched out
because she was like top bell, Yeah yeah, change it up? Will
you draw eyes on over your own eyes? Whoa damn man was getting into
geez. I like it. That's a good idea. That's a way were
well developed pitch than I could have possibly expected for that game. He's been
thinking metaphor while obviously actually that was on the spot. That all sounds really
good. Now that seems you say the aird thing. That sounds fantastic.
All right, Uh, let's see, let's do a couple more emails I
Peter, I know you've got another live show to go do shortly. Here.
We appreciate your time, but like two more emails Matt from Gurney,
Illinois. Why Dan record has no chance against a wolf? As as wrestling
is number one fan, I'm sure you're well aware of the story of Macho
Man Randy Savage's encounter with a police German shepherd outside a waffle house in the
late seventies. A German shepherd is no wolf, and you Dan are no
Macho Man Randy Savage. I mean, I agree with me being no Matchoman
Randy Savage, but you know, I had to have to see some some
documents about the differences between German shepherds and wolves. But what happened between uh,
that might actually be something that I don't know about. Wow, I've
seen video of Macho Man and Vince Kman in the parking lot of a waffle
house. Okay, he's implying something took place, some kind of altercation may
have occurred. I mean, waffle houses are like the go to late night
thing for wrestlers for decades. That is, there's a long and storied history
have wrestlers going to waffle houses. But yeah, I didn't know about any
German shepherd related incidents. You may you may have to follow up. Hmm,
okay. Multiple people wrote in actually about police dogs and you, Oh,
police dogs are scariest shit, and how you should I could? I've
seen the big suits and stuff like that. Looks scary as hell time and
wolf probably didn't that scary to put your money where your mouth is you ever
seen see if you can get in touch and everything? Well? Wait,
police attack dogs are trained by police like to do this exact things. Wolves
in the fucking forest. They don't have cops telling them how to kill people.
Wolves can't talk. They don't need to be taught. If they know
they're born to kill. All right, you and a wolf, it's gonna
happen. Sure, take a live, live show. Good, let's see.
How about all right? Last email? A couple here, Nick from
Westchester. Right then, about when Bam Margara is a local? Last week
you talked about celebrity sidings and pedaluma, including Bam Margera while he was dating
someone from the area. As a native of his hometown in Pennsylvania, I
wanted to share some experiences that are pretty common to people around here. Rolling
up to wah wah an amazing regional convenience store chain, and seeing his Lamborghini
he parked across four spaces, running into him and his posse late at night,
and him asking you if you have any booker sugar and other not so
delightful shenanigans. I feel like Dan is no stranger to asshole celebrity encounters,
so I thought he would share some of mine that checks out. Yeah,
you believe that. I've never liked Bammarjara or the persona he puts forward on
TV. Yeah, yeah, there, He's always one of my least favorite
of the Jackass crew. I'm sure Stevo wasn't all right. Though Stebo had
from trouble, he seems to be doing much better now. I think he's
doing well now. Yeah, Journey Knoxville always seem pleasant enough. Yeah,
ponism all, I don't even know. Okay, your party boy go past
me now, Okay, my knowledge of checkout's not so deep. Yeah,
who was yours? Your whatever story you told last week that in thee forget
who was your asshole celebrity encounter? I said it last week. I don't,
I don't, I have no idea I've had it. Okay, okay,
you had somebody, I've had numerous well, Dicky, yeah, yeah,
you could probably write a book. Yeah, let's tell all Yeah,
that's called indeed. All right, well, that's gonna do it for emails.
Let's get Peter out of here in time for his live show, but
podcast john Ball dot com. That's the email address. Uh, I opened
a can of worms last week, love boy. In that long time listeners
will notice that we have started numbering these episodes instead of dating, which you
see him. Drew seemed very excited about for some reason. Yeah. You
just seemed way into numbers. I don't know. Uh, but I also
started titling the episodes. I don't know what to call this one. I
mean, it'll it'll cook. Oh, so that's how this works. Okay,
it's a reference. It's something we think. No, I mean,
that's obviously, Yeah, that's that's obviously. I just wanted to I wanted
to hear I wanted to hear your off the head suggestion, mister Eyballs possessive
booker sugar. Yes, yes, you yeah, man, dude, It's
just like a podcast title the episode factory over here. It's like a formula.
There's an algorithm. You should just write an algorithm to comb the episode
and generate the perfect title. Now I have to call it that, right,
it's out there. Okay done. Could you draw me a picture of
mister Eyballs. Yeah, yeah, high on coke, out of his mind,
yeah, super dilated. I don't know, yeah, oh, thinks
he's very interesting. All right, I was gonna do it for the podcast.
Thank you Peter Brown for being here. Whoa damn talk it out?
Wow, he's anxious. Give me out of here obviously. Okay, Jason's
dancing over there. I guess that means it's time to get out of here.
Thanks for listening. We'll see you again next week
