#197 - SJ Tuohy The Real Life Kid from the movie ‘The Blind Side'

Speaker 1: Welcome to Episode one seven of the Bobby Cast. This one's fun for me at a little story. I went to watch the Razorbacks play this weekend Arkansas, dude, and I love the Razorbacks probably more than I love anything else in my life now that I think about it, Like, where would I rank things that I love in my life? Yeah, the new Dog isn't up there yet, No, not no, Stanley is not up there yet. He's maybe top six, top six, top five. Yeah, I just we haven't spent up toime. We've spent another four months. It's feel surprising. The Razorbacks I think are number one. Man like it just with love mhm, even like certain bands usually John Mayer, Garth Brooks, I feel like among favorite things. But I'm saying the Arkansas or Backs are better and bigger than that. I spent my whole life invested in them. I I can't think of anything like if I were to go to things that I love my number one thing in life because I'm not married, I have a girlfriend, no kids. More than yeah, it's got it's gotta be it. Maybe I love performing, I love doing the radio show. I think Arkansas is up there. So my point is I went to a game Love Arkansas, and uh, dude picks me up. Nice guy, a real nice guy, and we go and whatever, and I'll tell the story. I look it up. It's the kid from the blind Side, the real life kid the movie The blind Side. And he didn't play himself in the movie, but the kid in the movie played him, the real life kid from the movie The Kid. So we'll talk to s J. Coming up in just a few minutes. That's his name, s J. Twoey, which is pretty amazing. I didn't realize that. I went on the air yesterday morning. I was like, holy crap. So I wanted to bring him on. By the way, if you're waiting, a lot of people are for the Luke Combs Bobby cast. We had to move that back a little bit. Luke hit me up and was like, yoh, yes, something came up. He actually just texted me again and it was like, a, uh, we're gonna get that. You're gonna reschedule the Luke Holmebs one, so that one's coming up soon. Um, had to move that back. And who else do we have on the docket? We have anything lined up right now? Crow. We are ye nice that would be a cool one. And for those at home that no the inner workings of the radio show, you will hear a segment where we're talking about Cheryl Crow, um Monday or Tuesday on the radio show, and I'm like, we gotta get Ryl Crow. But what happens is whenever I'm out of town, um, I'll do the show from Like I'll be in Los Angeles next week, right, yeah, I'm all over New York, New York. I'll be all over. And so what we do is we'll we'll record four or five segments, most of the tell me something goods um. If there's a dance party, we'll record that because I can't do that from another another town. And then we'll record a couple of segments that are called evergreens that we can air at one of those dates. And we did a Sheryl Crow segment that's gonna air next week, and I was like, we gotta get her on the Bobby Cast. So Mike, you've already So when people hear that on the radio show, don't be weirded out. Like we have to kind of get a little bit of the show ready just in case we get to another studio and it falls through like that. The technology isn't working. But how does that? How's that going to come about? Already? Hit him up? Who um your label? Yeah? And they work with um getting her dates set up. I got a couple going around and we'll get her on. Man, can we do in a nine part series? I love the whole month. Let's just spend an hour on each song from two Tonight Music Club and then work our way up to today. You got any record called Threads out? That's real good? Um, so that's pretty cool. So Cheryl Crowe Um and Luke Combs, and you appreciated by listening and sharing this with her friends? I saw did we talk about Lizzo yet? Or do we talk about off the off the mic? Off the mic? Okay? So this song here from Lizzo went number one on the Billboard one D. This is truth her even when I'm crying crazy. I read that it came out in two thousand seventeen. It took that long for that song to grow. And I don't mean that long in a bad way like grassroots almost, because I saw that song starting to be pasted on the Instagram stories a year ago, and usually it's Morgan number two Instagram stories where I catched that early female stuff that is who I saw the Lizzo stuff from first. Yeah, So do you have the story about that song and when it came out, because it's really it is amazing that a song was released over two years ago or two years ago and then just now is able to hit the top of the Billboard Hot one chart because the last a couple of songs to do it, We're Old Town roade for many many weeks and then Billy Eilish took it. After she sat at number two forever. We did a whole podcast, Good Hiccups about songs that have peaked at number two, which she finally broke out of that hit number one, and then Lizzo hit So only three songs in the past like four months basically it hit number one. What does it say over there about Lizzo because that's a long time and I wonder if she was even on a label, a major label then, or if she put the song out and they were like the projects, good, we'll buy it, but on the label like anyway, I saw and thought it was um pretty nutty. Well. Also inside of this podcast, talked to Kelly Henderson from the Velvet's Edge podcast. Um, mostly she went out to Dirk's Dirk Spentley's festival Seven Peaks Music Festival, and that looked like mayhem out there. It looked like a lot of fun. And I talked to her about that and we'll see what's up. But um, what it was the story saying when she did put it out like on her own, yeah, and then it just had a major booth. I think it was on a it was on a Netflix movie first when it came out. Yeah, but was she an independent artist? Yeah, she was, and so a label acquired her music and then pushed it. That's great. Yeah, there different songs, pretty cool. You know what sounds good is the post Malone circles. Oh yeah, is album is out Friday? That was that, right? Yeah, I didn't know that the whole album. Whole album. He puts them out pretty quick. I mean the last record had like seventy three songs on it and like not literally but it was like probably six. Yeah, a lot. But the last one came out like a year and a half ago and then he literally finished it like a month ago. He like goes into like marathon sessions and recording, does all the songs. Puts it out, play some of the circles. This is all like real instruments. Who I read, Yeah, not a lot of like track machines, drum machines. So post Malone put on a new song. We have a s tweek coming up in a second, by the way, Like he's for sure I could put out a country song. Yeah, and I hear more every time and let everybody fight over this country or not, and then we just play and be like who cares? It's good, you know, especially when you watch them play too, Like he just grabs a guitar and plays and he looks like a country hard It's amazing. Yeah. Alright, So I think that's all all we have to say for now. Do you want to get to this interview? And I just say, appreciate everybody for hanging out. And we talked about this on the show a little bit this morning, but the first time we talked to him. Here is my conversation coming up with s J. Twoey. Hello, Hey, gotcha? There he is? You got me? That's JA can hear me? I can hear you? All right? Cool? Okay, so um we're we're rolling now, So anything you say will be held against you for sure. Uh. Just to get everybody heads up on what happened is I had texted Coach Morris, the head coach at the University of Arkansas, a couple of days before the game, and he's like, hey, I'm have my guy s J can pick you up. I don't think anything about it. I think, well, those are two odd initials to be next to each other, the little of S and J. I've never met another s J. And so I'm like, cool, this dude hits. He's like, right, pick you up. He finds me. We're driving. Actually, I don't know anything about I mean, I didn't know anything about. I didn't even put it together until later, um in the evening, and I'm asking s J making small talk about you know, where he played ball because you look like a ball player, Like, what's how big are you? S J? Um? How big of mine? Now? How big that I used to be? You're pretty much on slim probably got six ft. Okay, so you could tell Mike that he played ball at some point. And I say, hey, maybe, I said where did you play ball? And you played four years of college basketball? Right? Yeah? Have to play called basketball small school and Baltmore, Maryland called Loyola Maryland. Um, you know every time you stay loyal, SOE not not that one. So I was out in uh in Maryland four years there and then I played one year football down for coach Morris smu. So I say, why did you live in Baltimore? And your answer to me was, uh, that I had a road that played from football affair at the time, like the area I think was something I might have I've paddled out, don't even know. And so annoying that that SJ is like not talk, I talk. I text. I was like, dude, if it were me, I'd have a name tag on I'd be like I was the kid on the blind side. And so he totally played cool and I was like, oh, yeah, who's your brother? And he says Michael Lore And even then I didn't think much about it. We talked about him moving to Nashville. Michael moved to Nashville. When went about our day and I followed s J on Instagram and I hit it and there's a link and it says here book s J. And I'm thinking is a model, Like you're gonna book s J. And he's gonna come model for because I know girls that have that link in their page and it's like, here's all my information if you want to book me for me to model. And I'm like, I mean, that's just a good looking do but I wouldn't say he's like a model. And so I click it and it says uh s j Tooey who is the younger son on the blind side. And I was like, holy crap. So I'd go on the air and I'm blown away. My I mean, it was like explosion because you I mean, I guess at this point in your life, I mean, do do you bring it up? Ever? Like when does it come up with people? Usually? Um, well, it's funny to your first point, if I should wear a name tag. You know, we used to go to Mice games, um in Baltimore and throughout his NFL career all the time. UM, and I was in Baltimore too, so it was the easy trip. My faarers they come up and we go to the game on Sunday, and my mom would wear like a bedazzled you know, Ravens Jersey seventy four, like on the back it says, you know, like Michael Orr's mom and like glowing clashing letters, and we'll be sitting in the game and someone with like comfter and and say, hey, you know, can we take a photo like I love your you know, family store whatever. And she was, oh my gosh, you know, how did you know? Like I can't leave put this together. It's so crazy. We can't go anywhere. I'm like, no, we can literally go everywhere. Like, no one doesn't you have got an hero that point? No, no, no, no one noticed that, you know. That's that's what it was. I promised. I started not trying to draw at sens in to it, probably because of her actions, but um hasn't come out much man, honestly, Uh, you know because tony of the kids were recruiting now, you know, you think about them being in high school and I'll be talking to them and you know, whenever when the movie came out, they were like seven years old. You know, coaches all time. But I want out of death Jay and the kids, like you know, I was in first grade. It's been a while, so you know, too contents, I guess give it away, S and J not a whole lot of those names. But it's not too bad, man. I have so many questions I'm I thinking about this, So why don't we go first with when the movie comes out and it's a big hit. How old were you when that happened? The movie came out when I was a sophomore in high school, so I was, you know, like six teams just the worst time to give someone maybe any kind of Yeah, what was that like? As the six were you were the girls all over you? No, it was an overweight you know fact you have was way too long in here. So, um, it's funny. I didn't I didn't really realize. I think I kind of grew up, um uh at that point, not really knowing how big story was until I kind of got out of Memphist and you go, wait, people actually know about this thing elsewhere. So it wasn't too bad. Man. I got a lot of a lot of crap and we're playing teams in basketball or um you know that that kind of stuff where uh it was I was an easy target certainly, and it was It was also cool to get to do some things that you know, you know on what you have to do, but nothing nothing too crazy. So when you're playing basketball, because like what were your stats like run me your line, like senior year in high school, what were we averaging? I's a point guard. That's a big assist catch. I tried my goalten years to setting a sixth record. We had a really good player as a center. Our team that went played at Virginia and we had a four part two. I think I only average like maybe seven eight points, but probably eleven or twelve assists and and three bounds and um. You know, in high school, sadly thought about those camps and the things you do. So I was fortunate to perform with some of those those au deals and and I got scholars up to you're doing double digit assists, Like that's that's very valuable. You've got the ball a lot. Like what does the other players say to talk crap to the kid that's now there's a movie based on his life. You know, it wasn't a player as much. It was like student sections. You know, Um, I would be getting more more crap. And it's funny because we go some places and like they would say my name and start a lot of people like cheer, you know if people are crazy and I'm like, oh cool, Like we're this is really neat that we're in. You know, a couple hours away, and then we played a rival school and it was just like massive movies. You know, um, you know, I took a charge. It was you know, like good job Sandro who get Chanted? Or like watch your blind thought any thank you? That was coming a lot. Yeah, that was doing a lot. We played school one time they played the whole blind soundtrack for the warm up, which which I don't even know they had sound I was like, oh, I did not know the movie had a soundtrack until just this moment. Now I recognize all these songs. That's like some early trolling type stuff, like before trolling was really a thing, like they were they were trolling you hard in the court. Yeah, that's a cad deserved it. And did you have your names in the back of your jersey's in high school or no? I don't think so. I think we might have on o art one up tops. I don't. I don't quite remember. Now. I never read the book, right, I watched the movie. But either you were in the same boat with that. You never read the book, No, I had. I had the guy who who wrote it, Michael Lewis. He highlighted all the parts that in my name in it and I checked those parts out. Other than that, I was about it. Man, when you knew they were writing a book about your family, was it like, I don't even know what this means, what this is like, let's just see what happened, Like, what does that thought process? I mean, I was like fifths or grade. There was there was no thought pros sigre out what time recess was the true version of it? And people think we were like, you know, publicizing this out there, which was the farthest thing from the truth. My dad was a pretty good high school athlete, and my one of his classmates from from his high school, New Orlds Newman, the gu named Michael Lewis Um who wrote a bunch of good books while ours Poker, Moneyball, the Big Shore. He's written a ton of best sellers. He was writing a book on his high school based ball coach, a guyamed Billy Fitzgerald. He was a great coach and my dad was a good player for the team. He was gonna he was gonna come interview my dad for this book called Coach, which is a great book. And he came to Memphis for the interview and had they had to each other in fifteen years and Mike is sitting on the couch counter with me, like playing Xbox whatever, and uh, my dad kind of finished the interview and Michael Louis says, Okay, well I'll buy Who's a big black kid in your in your pool room? And um as, oh, it's just you know, when I called the classmates of the time, we hadn't really dopted yet. He I think he was. I get the whole time wine confused, but um and then he came back for the book tour maybe six months later. I was like, okay, like, update me on the kid, like what's he doing? And as crazy enough, we actually adopted him and he's living here at the whole thing, and uh he owed the New York Times an article, um, something like that, and then he had to do one, so can I write it on Michael and uh, my dad just honest, that would be good for his recruiting exposure. He was playing football and playing basketball like sure like it and if Mike's okay with it, Mike was and and uh it became a New York Times article and from there it was a book. And then when the book writes sold like don't worry, we will never make this a movie. Ever. You know, none of these things all my book, right, so none of them getting made the movies. Sure enough that we got made the movie. You know, you're an half later. So it was kind of a quick process. And that once the train was wrong with you know, we had no control. We didn't have to stay in the movie. They didn't have with our opinion or that's wild. It wasn't like your folks out going, hey this is a great story. It was literally a guy come and to write a story about just include your dad, not even completely unrelated. Yeah, as absurd as but it's it was an interesting, interesting train. Talk to me for a second about Talk to me for a second about like your family when you were a kid, Like what they did. Everyone always saw said, I mumble and I talked about apologize. But that's kind of the way you have to be in our family to speak. You know, everyone's got things going on. You have to get your words out fast. Um, And they were right, everybody. And my mom was a and the designer, and she was running around and and uh she got this kind of niche market of pro athletes who was always playing around. They creating houses, and my dad kind of grinded up to th Taco Bell deals and he was doing the radio um put A Grizzlies at the time, and so he was traveling with the team and Collins flick three sports high school, Mike play three sports high school. I'm sitting here in fourth grade like, hey guys, I'm here, I'm doing stuff. So, uh, but that's that's kind of part of I think what's made me good at my job and going forward today. That's I saw a lot of people who were motivated growing up and who had these goals and ambitions. And my sister um opened up a business and she's done cool stuff. And Mike had this long, lustrous NFL career and got a family and and uh, my dad still selling nine months in Taco So everyone's still doing things that that, uh they've been doing. Your dad was the radio gap for the Memphis Grizzlies, right yeah, for a while and THENTO the TV for a minute, and then then now he's he's kind of slacked off that stuff. Is that so cool as a kid to have a parent that works for an NBA team because you have you have access or you get free jerseys or anything like that. It was the coolest if you come to a main cave here and fable, which I I hope you'll do one day when you're back for for a many razor bad games. Um. I have an absurd jersey collection. I have thirty forty sign jerseys of like crazy you know, Alan iverson Grizzly like it's a weird off jerseys and uh, you know, how do you get these? I was going to the game or with my dad and just buy them and yell at the person until they were so annoyed that finally there comes jersey. That's when I read that about your dad. That was the thing that stood out to me was like that as a kid, to be able to go to NBA games and have just access, you know at times when other people don't, that would be the coolest thing to me. It was really fun and the Grizzies were so fun back then. They had a great group of god, I mean comical guys like Strom Swift and White Chocolate j Will and I mean guys that were funny to be around. Um, so it was pretty for granted. So they say they're going to do a movie on your family, Now do you go? And like do they kind of ask you guys any questions at all, or do they just start fictionally building who these people are based on what the book said. You really were, Uh a little. I didn't get asked questions. Don't remember getting asked questions, and so maybe maybe the rest of us of the fan did. Um sand Her Bulleck was around for for a while. She came for a week or so and heard my mom did different things and she kind of shadowed her. Um, did you meet when she was with your mom? Yeah? She can in my high st Cando, Broadcrest. One day I went to high school, Um, and I had this Bible teacher. Hopefully she doesn't looking your show. She doesn't, I can apologize who was like not a huge fan of line. Um, I'm sure I was jacking whatever is again I probably deserved it, but um, but apparently a huge fan of standard Bullocks. So all of a sudden that day we were back on the same page and my mom like, doesn't sign to the school, you know, she's she's like the roles just walks right on that and everyone contrast to stop here, and she just keep walking back where's that stay At the point of the classroom, she knocks on the door, and uh, I kind of I'm like, oh my mom's that's cool as the weird come to the door. She didn't tell me she was coming. And I walked in the hallway near Sanna Bola. I'm like, oh gosh, here's the lad some speed in my school. That's cretty um and the biopepers look angry that I've left class. Right. She walked outside like what's going on? And like breaks down right like, oh my gosh, can we please take a photo? I'm like, oh, now you want to take photos? Yeah? Now she's your biggest fan too, that you have Sandra Bullick up there. Uh, that was the one time I met her, and I met her one time on on set. We actually played a game in Atlanta for high school basketball and they were filming in Atlanta. So that worked out work sung by one night about and that we had zero involved in. Man, they just said, you know, people are coping, embarrassing, too bad and whatever. Whenever are you watch the movie back? How did you feel about Sandra Bullock portrayal of your mom? You know, I tried not to watch. I haven't watched the movie in a long time. Um, I did a girl a couple of years ago, and I said, look, we can watch this thing now and you can ask all the questions and that's it. That's what last time I've watched it. Um. But to your point, scarily pretty good. Um, that was much accurate part of that that movie. And I have one always asking you know, what's the similarity. I'm like center book in that movie as much nicer than my mom is in real life. Better than that, there's some some similarities for sure. You know, I bet that's the thing. Are you saying? Are you a single dude? Now? I am? Okay, I bet that's a thing. Right, Like, how early whenever you're talking to a girl do you have to bring that up? Because I felt like I thought you should have told me in the first five minutes a good die? But when do you have to bring that? As at the first date we're like, listen, here's the thing, or you like, guess what, here's the thing? Baby? Like, how does that work? Definitely not the latter. Um. You know, the kid who played in the movie Jahad is a is a really good dude. Uh. And we talked, you know enough for for a minute when when the movie was coming out. Um, and he made a comment one time on the phone or at a premiere and you like, hey, man, I'm gonna get you like a lot of dates in this movie. And I said, bro, anyone see this movie and like sees you and want to date me. Then I did not want to be with that girl, like we have some issues that we need to work out. So you know, I'm not like, I don't think that it's a an early conversation start for me. But um, they got to know the right if they go to your instagram, because you're not gonna go out with anyone even I'm not going to go on you one without going to their Instagram first. And like when I went to yours, I was like, oh he's a model, I guess and clicked and I was like, oh he's a kid from the blindside, Like they have to do they Okay, let me ask this. Do you think they ever don't bring it up even though they know, and they play like they don't know because they're playing cool. Probably they probably say something of me and he's trying to play cool and not bringing up I don't know. I uh. I have had a couple of girls like oh, you must have a really good football coach and like, no, that's not the I promise that's not the case. Why the thing, so, um, first date? That do you bring it up? Is that a conversation first date? It's not okay unless that would thing that got me on the date. Yeah, I doubt that was the case, and I wouldn't be hating on that if that's what got you on the date either. No, hey, whatsoever? Oh okay. The portrayal of you in the movie. How did you feel about that? Um? Yeah, I mean I was you asked someone when they were in fourth or fifth grade to be broadcast? I don't I guess that was probably that annoying or not that JA was an annoying. Yeah, but I probably a pre obnoxious character, So I'm sure I was that bad. My friends tell me that I was so um, you know, I was active. I was an active see, that's that's for sure. So I would imagine it was sadly accurate, though it against my best wishes, I would say it was not. Did you make any money from that movie at all? I wish no, we we you know we did get money from um like that them using our nate like the book right, you know when it when it's old. Um, and I get to speak now and stuff and and get the protological customers. There's platforms that it provided, but now there's not some kind of we weren't that smart who knew that no movies make money? Right? Like every movie loses money and like we're the one that didn't. So we're not that smart on the front end. What are you talking about? So what's what's your what's your when you do speaking engagements? Like what's your message about? Sure? You know it depends. I think it depends the group. Um, because the professional I'm in now sometimes it asked with athletical things that mine a lot of times about getting the game and making a difference. Um. I speak a lot of foster care groups. UM. And you know a lot of people have prating adoption story. I don't. I don't ever buy any meanings claim to be a part of any kind of great adoptions. There people have better stories and us on every street corner in the world. Um. But the platforms provided gives the opportunit to say it. Look, if you if you open yourself up to to turn around and see who needs help, you can really make a difference about really doing a whole lot. You know, we didn't do a whole lot for Mike. We just gave Mica a little bit of an opportunity. Um, that's what seagull is that there's people that he's just giving pot at your time, you'd be amazed at at the difference that it would make, um and someone's life, that they really all need a chance. And how close are you and Michael now as close as you can be with your your thirty three girl, both got four kids of his own run around so, um, he's acting he was by you, he's up in in your neck of the woods. Um, because we got if we're around each other, and then for sure we are, and if now we're just exchanging text bas football or or uh you know, some kind of college basketball's like you would your normal and your normal sibling. My mom goes up there all the time. She's you know, she's a grandmother and now to his his kids, so she's granny and she's playing the whole role up there, and she doesn't she does it. Also she's active as always when what you deal like, what's what's the goal with you for for life? What do you want to be? Because you played ball, you were famous kid actor almost you uh you played It's crazy that you played college basketball and then you flip over and you uh like punted played special teams in football? Like how did you make that trend? Like what even made you think you could do that? That was? So that can't be true? All right, stop at the humble put the humble card down for a second. You you legitimately played college basketball, right, you did? So okay? And you you go from loyal in near Baltimore down to SMU to play football, Like that's two different sports where a lot of kids want those spots on the team. So you you have to we both know this. You have to have something that you're contributing to the team or they won't have you there. So in high school, were you, uh did you play basketball at a high level and football at a high level? I played basket baseball and football in high school. I don't probably played baseball at the highest for a while, and then um I got to law school Waite and became a better basket player. Um and football I was, I was okay. I di speached the teams in high school too, so I wasn't like I was doing something. Now what in your quarterback, your safety. Um, and I helped the food goals truthfully. And I started to coach Morris. I knew him from a long crazy story that his high stoo quarterback Jeff and Snee played a little miss for my brother Um when he was an alman there a week to kind of stay in contact there and we knew each other and and uh and and it's a whole long stree of time for but I wanted to move to Dallas to to work down there, and and uh, he help him, said, lonce're walcome uprom me at s MU. I said, Coach, I have football in four years and I don't know what I can do. And and uh, you know, we talked for a long time and he said, well on the spot if you come here. I went down there and I was a pretty bad punner. I was a really bad scout team dB, but I was a pretty good holder for for field goals. So I kind of feeled some hound and that was a fun year man being around him. And you know, being from Market, you know, being around Arkansas your home a little bit. That Coach Morris has to do that, um, you know, he's he loves his players and that that was most fun I've ever had pointing sports. I never wanted to work in football. I never saw a million years coming and being around him for six months, I was like, man, I can't get enough that I got fortunate enough to react him to be on staff. But um, it was. It was all lucky turn events, kind of good blind that stuff. Man got a little lucky. Is the goal now to be a football coach? Oh gosh, no, oh it's not. I don't want to get ta look administration. I like to ultimately being a d um one day. I don't have the you know, I drink too much red Bull as it is here, I don't have the the energy to do with these guys. These guys are their coach for us may think it after it, Um, I'm thankful to be kind of I saw I do uh football offs here and recruiting and stuff like that. So I'm off the field, which is where where I want to be and well being around our guys and recruiting folks and making sure that logistically we're more on track. So ultimately I want to get kind of administrative. But but I'm I'm riding the chad More strain until it run bout of juice is a fun, fun rode. You know that for the rest of your life, when you're interviewed, you you get whatever position you're getting, you move up, You're always gonna be asked about the blind side. Yeah, and there's worse things to be asked about. I guess you know it could be it could be worse. Yeah, it could be worse. But you you will eventually get and annoyed with it. Yeah, I think it. Man, I probably passed that point. Honestly. It's you know, if anyone has helped that story and it gets anyone kind of inspiration, man, I'm and I'm glad's helpful, and anyone who wants to make fun of it, I'm also ill on that because there's things about fun it too. So you know my and I don't know if you told the guys this yesterday, but I left your feel past at my house right and rushing out of the house first game, I'm nervous and so I called my dad who saying God was in town with the game. Hey man, you gotta bring valley bones and and uh Justin Moore and and Joe Nicols feel passed. Lets him on the counter and an envelope can you bring it to me? And so he's like fighting through Gamebay traffic and he pulls up and he drops the envelope. You know it's our our golf cart that we were in there. And then uh yeah, we kind of briefly encountering. We drove off back to the circles are making around campus and about so my dad sees you on the field or I see it after the game, and just I thought I got on the field. He did tell me that was always going and I guess I did. I introduced you guys said that bo Dad like that happened. It's very brief to know who he was. And I looking to in the morning time on way to work, I'm like, Williams, that's your fault. You gotta recognize that that that's fine. Well listen, I thought, listen, I think you're I don't follow many people on Instagrams. You, I'll be honestly, I felt like two people, So you're in my heart. You have a special place in my heart, except you haven't sent me my my gear yet. I'm still waiting. It's in the Mail's in the mail at the huge fall, and I appreciate that. I just called on my cell phone before we went on and I was like, hey, we're gonna call you on the podcast. She was like, Okay, are you Kelly Henderson from the Velvet's Edge podcast. We're just gonna ask you about Dirk's festival this weekend. Oh my god, it was so fun. So what exactly is happening at Seven Peaks Festival? Um? Well, there's so much music happening, there's so many people, there's a lot of um extracurricular activities. Is that a good way to say that? I don't know. We legal in Colorado. Oh so you're saying everyone is smoking weed. I mean I assume so, but maybe it was just me. I don't know. Okay, no, but I'm saying everybody in like back, back in the back, yeah, like it's I mean, it's just this hold her vibe there just because you're in Colorado, you're surrounded about the mountains, it's beautiful. Well, Derek's called me the next day and I was like, hey, you should come play it next year. And I'm not comfortable around that, Kelly, So maybe I'm not gonna go. First of all, you've got to lighten up, and you should definitely play it next year. Not everyone's doing it. That was probably an exaggeration. What do you mean I've got to lighten up? Do drugs? Kelly? Are you saying I've got to do drugs? I'm just saying, like, live a little. Maybe you should, I don't know, I actually think that would be kind of fun. Maybe you should eat a gummy, you know, I don't know. That I'm totally against that, like I have feel like we've talked about this before and he said you would do it. No, I never said I would do it, but I'm not. Again, I feel I think, I don't know if I've talked about it, but I just know how I feel, and probably consistent to what I've said before, I'm not against. First of all, I think it should be legal, so you can put me all across the board. There's zero reason that we'd shouldn't be legal, like I can't, especially if alcohol is legal. Alcohol is worse than weak, so if we're just playing the game of if what's good for the goose is good for the gander. That being said, I don't drink either. I'm afraid. Mostly I'm just afraid of what I would be if I was a little bit out of control, because I don't do well out of control, because I feel like if I'm not controlling everything, not just that but just life in general, that things are gonna slip away from me. So that being said, I guess that's a much bigger conversation. But maybe that's the whole point, Like that's the whole point of weed is to relax, super comfortable environment. But I don't. I also don't like hot things, really I don't. I wouldn't smoke anything, right, So that's why I said I so I would. I can't wait for next year when you come. But I wouldn't do that. I wouldn't do it around. I would. This is what I would do, if I would ever do it. I would do it in my house by myself. I mean, that is so not fun. Though. You don't want to be with people if you can laugh, only if well, how do you know? And this is why I don't take sleeping pills on airplanes anymore, because I'm afraid that I'll just end up pantsless, singing lou Bega laying on the old lady next to me in the aisle. I do because I don't know what happens to me once I take that stuff, And if I get really sick, maybe I'll take a sleep and pill at home when I'm by myself. Because what's the worst thing I do? Take a dump on the floor and then I have to clean it up later if I'm public. I don't know. I'm scared of that stuff. I mean, if you're taking dump on the floor, that's a really good edible. That's why I'm worried about. By the way, check out, I think you calm and you hang out with people that you know and you love and you steel comfortable with, and you just relax a little bit. Yeah, that's good. You should say that. I know you just did, but you should say that. Um. Yeah, I mean that's maybe that's my new tagline. I talked about a lot more than just weed. But um, you know, and for the most part of this podcast is an interview podcast or a music podcast that we're doing here. And I was just calling really about Seven Peaks because I've seen a lot of new stories out about it today. So it's in Colorado. It's Dirk's festival. Does he headline all nights or one night or a way? Just he headlines one night, but he comes out in different you know, different people's sets, and he does a little blue grass at the Hot Country Nights were there one night, which is his nineties cover band. So he's basically doing something every night, but just headlining that one night. And what's happened with you? Like, what do you mean? Don't know? I just thought I would give you like a second to share something personal. Um, I'm just plugging away. I've been doing a lot of work for you actually, to be quite honest, you have a lot of stuff coming up, Like you tell me sometimes sometimes I don't even know what I'm what I'm doing. Oh well, i'm your stylist, so and I'll see your groomer. So I we have a lot coming up with Like you have this new preena thing you can I talk about that? Yeah? Secret, No, it's not top secret. I'm doing something with Pirena dog Chow for service dogs. You have a campaign where they're talking about service doggs and that to raise money, and I've done a lot with them, Um myself and are you are? You're going with me, aren't you? Yeah? We have two trips to New York City. I'm excited and you're going with me on all my American Idol trips. Yeah, we're about to be together a lot. How about that? How do you feel about that? Oh? I don't care. We've been together many ways at this point. What did you say? Nothing? Um? So? Uh? And you work for Dirks too, which is why I called about dirt And so what do you do for Dirks? I thought we'd get a little story about seven peaks um, and Kelly told me I should smoke weed or eat weed gummies. You know, here's what I would compare it to. And why this is something else I'm not comfortable with it. I've never done. I've never been to a strip club, right, And so if I were to say, do you think I've ever been to a strip club without you know, one that answered, what would have said? I actually probably would have said, Now, you're right. I don't know why I was so surprised, and I'm not morally against it. I don't know that I'm you know, giving me awards like humanitarian awards or anything. But some of my buddies go. But here's why I really never after a while, I didn't want to be the guy who was going, everybody's watching, going, let's watch Bobby get his first lab dance, and everyone's watching. It's the same thing. If I were to try again, you know, everybody like, oh, that's see what happens to him. Or if I were to drink, like, oh, Bobby drunk, let's watch and see what he does. Like, I'm not trying to live with that pressure. Well, why don't you just not tell anybody that you're eating the gummy?
