But it's when you complete those passes, because when you're zero for seven on third and fourth down, that came back to haunt the LA Rams.

He said, I can't really sum up what's going to happen the next six months in ten minutes or ten minutes after a loss. But it's not a silly question. You know, you'd like to be fair to the situation. You just lost a very tough game. Maybe you can ask it in a softer way and still maybe get an answer that you want. But yeah, there's big questions here with Matthew Stafford unbelievable year, crazy numbers. Does he want to go through it again at age thirty seven? But yeah, I think it's fair in the moment to ask that. But you know, you're watching the game and you keep thinking, okay, whenever the Rams would do something, Seattle would answer back, and who Knakua showed up in a big way. But I don't want America to, you know, all of a sudden, go, boy, that guy Jackson Smith Nujigba is really good. He's great now he gets lost in the shuffle, even in his own division, but he is a tremendous player. He's not pooking Akua, but nobody is. But boy, he's He's right there with him on the doorstep, that's for sure. And you saw that yesterday and Sam Darnold, Sam Donald played well, really well and We were talking about this prior to the show, and Fritzi said, you know, can he wipe all of that away if he doesn't play well in the Super Bowl. I don't know, you know how much House credit he has because we still go back to what happened with the vikings that they moved on from him.

Speaker 1: He didn't have to play great the last game, but he played well yesterday, like he's the reason why they won the game. Not hey, defense played really well. Now they had to go toe to toe with the Rams, and I thought Sam Donald did a wonderful job going toe to toe. Not easy to do when you're going against Matthew Stafford. But here is the final call of the Seahawks winning the NFC title.

Three hundred something yards, three touchdowns, no picks, big every time they went and scored again, he came back, had some big time throws on third down, two minute drive, the four minute drive. The guy barely practiced all week. You know, Just really happy for him. He deserves it. Just been in a rock for us the whole year. So just really happy for him.

Speaker 1: And then you had the other game with the Patriots and the Broncos. I thought first team to twenty one was going to win that game. The Patriots aren't a dynamic offense, but that defense has been surprisingly great. And then you factor in the snow, and granted Denver was really banged up. When you don't have your leading rusher, one of your leading pass receivers, and you're going into that game and you got Jared Stidham trying to do his best bow knickx impersonation and wasn't able to do it. But there was a moment and I think you have to be honest with yourself, what would you have done in the moment when it was a fourth down in it's early. You can kick a field goal and you'll go up ten to nothing, and you know bad weather is coming. That was in the forecast, so you know that bad weather is showing up at some point. You know the wind is whipping. And I thought, kick the field goal. Just kick the field goal. It's ten to nothing and you'll be fine. And I think that was the surprising part of it is it feels like it's a failure if you don't go for it on fourth down, and somehow you know you come away with a field goal instead.

At least I get three, and it puts even more pressure on the Patriots and Patriots. You know, neither team really had a running game, but here's Sean Payton talking about going forward on fourth and one.

Speaker 5: Just felt like, man, we had momentum, get up fourteen. It felt like we had a good call. Were at yard line wise there? Yeah, I think I think the feeling was, man, let's let's be aggressive to you get up fourteen. I was just watching the way our defense was playing.

Speaker 1: I understand it. I don't know if it was analytics. It may have been just gut feeling. It may have just been Sean Payton bravado that we got him. And I did say after the fact, look, if they had scored a touchdown, you're up fourteen, you're probably winning that game.

Speaker 1: But with bo Nicks, okay, I'll run that play, but even then, I don't like my backup quarterback rolling right. Therefore he's taken away half the field. And give credit to the Patriots because they weren't fooled at all on that play. But you know this fourth down analytics and it's gone crazy, and I go back to the Detroit Lions would have played in the Super Bowl, but they were going forward on fourth down, and I know that's what Dan Campbell did the entire regular season. This is the postseason. In the regular season, you live for another day, another week, another game, not now. And I think that came back to haunt them because I wasn't gonna ask too much of Jared Stidham. I just wanted him to maintain you throw one deep pass late and then you come back and try to throw another deep pass in those conditions and he gets picked off. They just weren't threatening on one. Neither team was because the weather was, you know, obviously rough enough that we could even find you know, Jim Nantz is like, I don't know, I don't know where the ball is.

Speaker 11: It's almost like those two big plays that Stidham had, the big throw and then the touchdown right after, maybe gave the Broncos a sense of false confidence there because those those two plays were really huge failures by the defense more than exceptional plays.

Speaker 1: Broncos defense was great, and I thought that there were moments where Drake may could have been Josh Allen. I've a surprised he didn't run more. And I think if they're going to beat Seattle. He's going to have to run probably ten times because there there were yards out there for him. And then you find out that last call where he doesn't tell anybody that he's going to take it himself. Here is Drake May on that first down scramble to solidify the game.

But at that point it doesn't matter when you when you get the first down. So that was a cool moment and cool separate those guys. It's always cool finishing Vicky formation. It's pretty sweet.

The Seahawks and the Rams are co favorites next year, followed closely by the Bills, the Patriots, and then the Eagles, Lions, and Ravens are tied after that. Here's one from Paul. If I told you in August the Patriots and Seahawks would be in the Super Bowl, which would have been more unlikely the Patriots or the Seahawks. Patriots, Yeah, Seahawks are always good. They're always competitive. Patriots, we thought with a experience coach, but in his first year, in his second year, quarterback, felt like they were one year ahead of schedule. And now I can look and say, it seems like they were ahead of schedule, But I thought they might be you know, six seven win team, didn't think they were going to go to the super Bowl, super Bowl? What else do we hear?

Speaker 1: I don't buy into analytics because analytics doesn't tell you, Okay, we're facing that defense. We have a backup quarterback, I don't have my running back, I don't have one of my best receivers. That's analytics can say, hey, you're fourth down and one and you're at this yard line. Okay, I have to factor in everything here. Factor in. It's a playoff game. I got a backup quarterback, I'm playing against a really good defense, and I think Sean Payton. I don't know if Sean's an analytical guy an analytics guy, but that one felt like that was just, hey, I feel good about us. I feel good about our offensive line. Maybe in the moment you get caught up in bravado, which wouldn't be surprising with Sean Payton, Yes, Todd.

Speaker 8: And then there's the whole going for two? When is too early to go for two? There are teams that, like in the second quarter, they're trying to calculate ahead of time, what's going to be two, two and a half quarters from now, we better get the two, and that's just way too soon sometimes that they're going for two and not taking next your point.

Speaker 1: Yeah, but back to what we were talking about going for it on fourth down. There seem to be coaches that love it, that say that's what you're supposed to do, and maybe the analytics, you know, prove that. The analytics show, hey, you swing really hard and try to hit home runs, nothing else matters. I still don't buy into that but that's the analytics and maybe I'm going kicking and screaming into the future here, but in that moment, with that quarterback against that defense, I gotta come away with points because there was no guarantee, Oh we got a first down, we're going to score a touchdown. And I think that's what it's lost on people. You weren't there's no guarantee you're scoring a touchdown. And I know there's no guarantee you're going to kick a field goal. But you got a great field goal kicker. Get three. If you think your defense is that good, get three. Yeah, Paul I went.

Speaker 13: Back and looked at the play. After the third down, Sean Payton actually calls time out, so they took their time to think about it. I'm curious how many people were in his ear or not in his ear to make the decision.

Speaker 1: Well, keep this in mind that we talked about the Broncos defense, Seattle's defense, the Patriots they're averaging eighteen points per game in the playoffs. They're not going to score a lot of points, but they're giving up sixteen points, so it's going to be a tight game.

His numbers were incredible this year if you include the postseason, and he stayed healthy. More importantly, he stayed healthy. Does he want to do it again? Does he look around and go, why would I walk away from Pukaakua? Sean McVay, you know the secondary needs to be better, but you got running backs just I don't know that would be a tough one to walk away from.

Where he plays awesome, he's got three touchdowns, four hundred yards, no picks. Yeah, every pass is like ten yards plus. He's just absolutely playing crazy, and his defense gives up four five points or something like that, like their special teams gives up somewhere. He plays really well, but the rest of the other phases of the game really let the team down, and that's how he gets knocked out of the playoffs.
