So if you're just joining us this week, we had a show on Monday afternoon myself and Nick Chuk going through all the head coaching changes, we only have a few coordinated updates. Let's start with the commanders the rumors. The report from Diana Rossini over the weekend ended up being true. Cliff Kingsbury out after two years with Dan Quinn as the offensive coordinator. Joel Witt Joe Witt, the defensive coordinator, also is out that one less of a surprise, he lost his play calling during the season, Connie, are you surprised? Like a day after Jane and Daniels kind of speaks up about how much he likes, you know, Cliff Kingsbury and his mom sent some things out on social how much she likes Cliff Kimberry that they got rid of Cliff Kingsbury.

Speaker 5: Well, I did find it surprising that the endorsement came from Jane Daniels, and then it was like, wow, that doesn't really matter. And we talked so much about consistency in the league and how important it is for especially a young quarterback, and we saw what Jane Daniels was able to do last year, and without his playmaking ability on the field, of course, the offense is going to suffer.

Speaker 5: At running the ball like that, that wasn't an issue. If they had Jayden Daniels available, I think things would be a little bit different.

Speaker 6: There was also some rumblings and murmurings about some tension between himself and the front office, Adam Peters specifically. This was also in Adam Peter's press conference recently where he talked about, hey, I do think that myself and Terry McLaurin, for example, would have liked to get this deal done sooner, sort of admitting to a couple of mistakes that he made. Cliff Kingsbury is a former head coach in the NFL and he also was pretty aware that he would be in demand for some of these other teams. I think that if you're going to make your wishes known potentially within an organization of the direction that you want to take things, you're either going to do that when you know you have nothing to lose, or there's a chance that they listened to you. And in this case, it was more likely to me that changes were going to happen regardless.

Speaker 1: Yeah, I think think based on the reporting in Washington from the different reporters, they're reading between the lines dan Quinn and there actually is a quote when he's asked about the hurry up offense that Cliff Kingsbury had because you know, offensively, they ran way more like hundreds of plays more in hurry up than any other team. And dan Quinn you know, talked about the slow already. Yeah, like kind of the downside of that for his defense, which has not played well. And if you watch the whole Jade Daniels media availability and they talked about the offense, he did also say though he wants a voice in any future offense and how it's run, Uh that like we can best maximize so who knows like it in the end like it sounds like dan Quinn wanted someone based on the reporting and the athletic and Washington locally, Washington putslake who runs the damn ball a little more. And the problem I have with that is just that the commander's offense was clearly the positive of this team in the last two weeks.

Speaker 1: Chance to be a head coach again, dan Quinn, and he probably can't survive another season that bad again. So you got to go out with who you want, and I think they might have a specific idea of who they do want.

Speaker 6: I agree with that because if you also look at a firing that happened today, they commanders fired their offensive line coach as well, and so this to me means that they're going to go throw the bag at somebody who is going to re establish the line of scrimmage in a way that gives dan Quinn's defense the benefit of more ball control on the offensive side. Because that's what you mean when you're talking about if you're a defense and you run this type of like bend, don't break defense that dan Quinn wants to run, you already know you're going to be on the field a certain amount of time. You need enough sustained drives in a ball, control way, time of possession, those types of things from your offense in order to and you just aren't going to do that passing the ball. I think also this is Cliff Kingsbury. We know loves the spread and he loves the point and shoot, tell the quarterback what to do kind of kind of system. I think he evolved a little bit with his usage of tight ends as well over the last couple of years.

Speaker 1: Yeah, I was looking for the exact quotes for Jaden Daniels when he did say like, well, you know, we're going to have to evolve and grow as an offense too, and this is sort of like more of a college unique style of offense and man, the social media not as big on Adam Peters and Dan Quinn right now as they were twelve months ago when they were like the toast of the town. People are hating on Adam Peters, who doesn't have a lot of draft picks right now, and it just goes to show like how quickly things change.

Jonathan Jones of CBS had a comment from a coaching agent who said, wait till you see who they get as coordinator. It's going to be better than some people's head coach options. And I'm like it's a very small group of Yeah. It was like, yeah, first of all, it's one of your clients, Like, no one really fits.

Speaker 1: It's good, it's it's Brian Dable. There's no one else that fits that requirement, and I get it all right. I'd be interested to see that the Cowboys fired Matt Eberflus. I don't think there's much more to talk about that is. He's out, He's getting paid for a couple more years. Be interesting to see if the Cowboys really do try to throw the bag at Brian Flores if he doesn't get a head coaching job. Aaron Shotts at FTN Fantasy had the Cowboys as one of the five worst defenses I think of the last twenty five years, which is crazy that they were that bad in terms of DVOA. So Eberflus has gone. And then finally some Falcons news. This was from Field Yates that Kirk Cousins modified his contract. Too long to go through all the details, it sounds like it just makes it easier for them to cut him before the start of the season without as much salary cap pain. So it sounds like he'll be cut, but I guess the final decision might be going to team president Matt Ryan. Now this is not official that it's going to happen, but rap Sheet in Rapaport says that Matt Ryan is believed to be the favorite for the newly created title of president of the Atlanta Falcons. Yes, they're creating the title for Matt Ryan. Like it's the most shameless like just pay the Rooney rule. Fine, I think, like because they're going to have to go through interviews to satisfy the Rooney rule. But they're literally creating a job for Matt Ryan to be in charge of football operations more or.

The bigger problem is he's treating it like his fourth job, Tom Brady, and he's not doing very well at it. Whereas Matt Ryan, I guess it's just got to be like running the show now in Atlanta.

So I think they want Matt Ryan to come in and absolutely run the organization from a president level, which to be clear, is very different from running the organization like as a GM or as a head coach. It's a very much over the top role, whereas other people within that organization are going to focus more unlike the soccer team and like the other business holdings. It's like getting another person in there whose focus is football.

Speaker 6: James Gladstone came in at the final moment and just blew the ownership group away. Josh Williams, I think is a favorite for this job, as well as Alec Halliby. He's also worked with Mike McDaniel very closely over the years. John Eric Sullivan, respected executive, been with the Packers his entire NFL career, knows the system Mike McDaniel runs really well. I would think that this is also an opportunity for the Miami Dolphins to ask John Eric Sullivan.

Speaker 5: Obviously leading the league in EPA per play, but his efficiency was just unbelievable. He led the league in passerrating completion percentage. Only Tom Brady and Kurt Warner were quarterbacks to do both of those things. Finish the year leading both of those categories and taking a team that had three wins to a team that now has fourteen wins, won the division, was almost the one seed in the AFC. This is he raised the ceiling so high, and he did it with a supporting cast that is nowhere near what Matthew Stafford has. So for me, Drake May is the MVP, plus the the dual thread ability, how mobile he is. What he added on the ground as well, he was able to third in long situations like he just he played at a rate that I don't think a lot of people expected him to.

I don't really, but I'm going with Matthew Stafford. I think the highs are unconsciously high. The floor he raised the floor of his play. You know, sometimes he'd be streaky. He was a little bit in a couple of weather games this year as well. Carolina looms large. But I think for with Matthew Stafford. He also didn't have Pukin Akoua for part of the season. He also hasn't had DeVante Adams. They're making it work with like this Frankenstein's Monster eleven personnel with a rotating third receiver constantly and then this thirteen personnel that you can't get these tight ends. You can't maximize these like truly kind of middle level tight ends in the past game without a quarterback like Matthew Stafford. He makes everything go in this offense. This offense is tricky. We all know this. Even with a you know, boy genius play caller in Sean McVay, I would argue that.

And then it was between Josh Allen and Max. It was not mac Jones or rock Perty. It was his teammate, though I thought, for you know, the word valuable gets people caught up and it is kind of nebulous. But because of that word valuable, I'm going to c MC. Like there's a reasonable debate, but like there's no doubt who number one is and to me that would be Hamilton and Jeffrey Simmons. A good shout out there. He's a really smart player to be able to take on all of the things that Mike McDonald has asked him to do. And he is a key difference maker in that defense that really takes it from an A plus defense to an A plus plus nightmare of a defense because they can give you the same look any personnel that you use. You don't know how they're gonna play you. Because it's the same players on the field every single time. They don't need a sub.

This is why players to play for him, which is the big deal. Your choice, He.

He had to basically make up for multiple awful drafts and go in and really put his stamp on the front office as well, and he had to hire out a complete new coaching staff. I think being bold enough to bring in Josh McDaniels, who has a stellar reputation as a schemer and a play caller, but also a reputation for being difficult to work with, not that he's a mean guy, but just difficult, and to bring in players coaches who also know their stuff all around as like a sort of like bubble around Josh McDaniels. I think was brilliant. I think it was a brilliant move to coach the way that he did, despite I believe it's his defensive coordinator who's going through a cancer battle to galvanize the team the way that he has. Listen, there are a lot of really well deserving candidates for this. Mike McDonald was my second choice, Ben Johnson, Kyle Shanahan, Liam Cohen.

But that kind of makes Rabel's case too, that he inherited a team without a lot of top shelf talent, and he does get a little extra credit I think for the player acquisition stuff too, which he is a big parton in which they absolutely nailed Final one. But I'm gonna give it to an offensive I always like the offensive line coade, so I'm gonna go streat first. I'll go Flores second, and uh, I'm gonna go Anthony Kimpanel the Jaguars defensive coordinator third, because he's got like a top eight defense, which if you just look at the talent, you could definitely make the case that he could win the award. You could make that case with a lot because there's a lot of great assistant coaches. But those are the three that I went with.

I'm going to go for my number one with Houston Texans defensive coordinator Matt Burke because Demiko Ryans turned the keys over to Matt Burke pretty early on in the season. Matt Burke's been calling the games for this Houston Texans defense, and I have to tell you, first of all, he does an excellent, excellent job. I think, along with Flores in Campanelli probably gonna get some some head coaching interviews here down down the stretch.
