Four Finger Discount (Simpsons Podcast)

Mr. Burns outsources work to India and sends Homer to run the operation. Meanwhile, Patty and Selma kidnap MacGyver, aka Richard Dean Anderson. To be honest, when it comes to "Simpsons go to" episodes, this ranks up as one of the best. Plus the guest appearance from RDA was fantastic. Enjoy!

Okay, Pooh said his cousin Carvey could help me out. Let's see the
Poosh cousin is medium height, dark complexion, brown eyes, black hair.
Are you Carvey? No? Are you Carvey? Yes, you must be
mister Hanmer. Finally, four Finger Discount, dude, Welcome to four Finger
Discount, the podcast that always outsources its gags. This week we are Hitter
review episode h ab F one zero. It is Kiss Kiss Bang Bangalore,
And I'm guy who's the guy who always plays hard to milk. How good
is outsourcing things? Man? I say that as somebody who lost his job
due to outsourcing, But hey, if I didn't lose my job due to
outsourcing, oh wouldn't be here. Make you're living talking to you and talking
about the Simpsons. That's correct, And you know, we're keeping it in
the house for the most part. We're outsourcing a few tasks now and then,
but generally speaking, we're we're keeping in house. But there's something to
be said for outsourcing. Certainly, yes, I mean, I mean,
I'm when it comes to jobs, I'm not pro outsourcing. But the thing
is, it's hard to have a solid argument about being prouts against outsourcing when
you shop at Kmart and you shop at Target and everything is made in China.
It's like you want to complain and you want to fight the good fight.
But then you go and you go like, well, there's ten dollars
ship at Target. I'm gonna go shit there instead. And this is actually
some very nice homewares. This rug is quite delightful and so inexpensive. And
kids are like kids like, I know that's you know, I locally produced
t shirt, But the one that Target has Lightning McQueen on it, I
want that one. Growing up in the Europe that I did as like,
oh you're shopping at Target. Oh you're shopping at Chema. Good let pa
though you go there, I mean the love of the reason. I like,
I'll be going over there week. Some new item of the house where
from Cama. That's definitely from Chema. I'm like, that's really good.
And that's like the new Bunnings. Go there, you go there to buy
something, you leave the twenty things you've had no intention you need that you
needed absolutely and I mean, oh, I'm look, I'm not a snob
when it comes to my clothing or anything like that, but when I've been
going to Cama. That led Zeppelin two shirt actually looks pretty cool and it's
got the led Zeppelin. Yeah, it's legit or great for just licensed shit
and just like mass producing it. And it's like, you know, everyone's
going to have to own this shirt. It's not going to be unique in
anyway. But I want a led Zeppelin shirt. Yeah. Or I've still
got a like a a Star Wars Japanese poster one that I got from Target.
That's fantastic. I wear that to this day. And I got let
like for Christmas maybe ten to fifteen years ago. I remember buying it when
I was like sixteen. I was like yes please Yeah, and Japanese,
so it's a little bit cooler. Yeah. And now they've got they've got
a Space Invaders one in a Target with it's like the old it's like an
old magazine. Now it's like the Ultimate Gaming Experience or something like that with
an old Space Invaderson And I'm like twenty five bucks. Think I made shout
out to our shout out to our pals a Kmart and Target. Yeah,
if you want to enter into some kind of a note sponsorship deal, but
I mean to do so, talk to Dan. Make it happen. By
the way, this other podcast is brought to you by our friends at super
Over pop Culture can Mention Expo where we are. We went up with Jim
Cummings back a couple months ago, didn't we you? We did? Indeed,
yes, um Dando and I walked among the nerds, not feeling a
bit like Richard Dean Anderson. I might feeling like stars in our own right,
but yeah, the one stop shop for all things I don't know,
nerdy, dorgy, geeky and just pop cultural. It's good times to be
had. M hmm. All right, So we're here to talk about Kiss
Kiss Bang Bangalore, another one of those Simpsons go to episodes, And honestly,
I don't think I had ever seen this one right, and I'm not
gonna lie. I tend to give these ones a mulligan, you know,
a free hit, because it's that I'm a bit of a stickler for continuity
to an extent, not so much as that much of there used to be.
I like there to be some sort of logic, but I know with
these ones here, logic tends to get thrown out the window. It's just
the Simpsons go somewhere and a bunch of local gags are made. Shit happens
right when you take that all into into account. I didn't mind this.
I particularly liked the Temple of Doing the final act. I was like,
there's gonna be a lot of people like the probably haven't seen Indiana Jones and
Temple of Doing that don't get any of this. And I read some reviews
online and I'm like, yeah, these people don't know Temple of Doing because
like why was home even dressed this way and all this? And I was
like, that's a temple of doing. Reference guys, it's clearly what he's
what he's dressed up. But I didn't mind it. I particularly though enjoyed
the B plot with Richard Dan Anderson. I thought that was an awesome guest
appearance. I think that was probably what I enjoyed more Yet all honestly,
I liked the the Indian storyline. I mean, it's hard to call him
even A plots and B plots. I mean, if I think if you
dive it up the times they've probably got oh yeah, India's probably got the
edge on it just a little bit. But they felt very even handed and
in all honesty, Yeah, I think I like the Yeah, the RDA
plots probably a bit more. I just found it kind of fun and yeah,
primarily because yeah, Anderson just really went for it. He was like,
Okay, yeah, I know I'm sort of the butt of the joke
here, but I might turn it around a bit and have a bit of
fun with it. And he had a lot of fun with it, and
so did I as a result. Yeah, it was. It was really
good. Apparently that's played to a bit of truth. Apparently he doesn't really
like mcguiver and he much prefers Stargate SG one. I mean, I love
STARHG one. But there's apparently in the episode or in the Children of Gods,
which is at the first episode of Stargate and anyway, an episode of
Stargate in Children of the Gods, the episodes called Sorry Children of the Gods,
his character becomes visibly annoyed when another character talks about how they had to
mcguiver a control system for Earth Stargate, so when they set the term a
giver, he looks at him and gets annoyed. But apparently he said it
like conventions and stuff that he much prefers start at HUE one. But I
think now he's probably come around, because like for a while they mcgiver was
sort of like not the butt of jokes, but it was just sort of
like, no, was it was it like laying like mcgiver, mcgiver saying
is cool. I don't think it was ever seen as cool. I guess
that's why they had Patty and someone like mcgiver, because it was meant to
be there. Oh my god, she's like a guiver. It wasn't.
It was sort of in the middle ground. I mean, it wasn't like
Miami Vice or anything like. There wasn't groundbreaking or anything. But at the
same time, it wasn't completely dorky. It was just like, oh,
this is one of those action shows. You're watching a you know, it's
Thursday, it's seven thirty. It's time for mcgiver to meek into them miraculous
escape. It's like, yeah, yeah, cool. You don't have to
really pay much attention to it. You can probably you fold your laundry or
whatever while it's happening. Was it kind of like Scooby Doo where like,
you know, ship goes down, he solves it, he gets out of
a situation, and at the end he explains how he did it. It's
I never really watched mcguy form that much. Obviously, I never watched the
version. I didn't watch the new version. I mean there was a version
that was out just a couple of years ago. I think went for something
like four seasons, four or four seasons. Good for that, I mean
I love that. There are you know, we're always talking about press DG
TV and it's like, oh my god, have you watched you know that's
TV show. Yeah, I'll get to that. Yeah, that's really funny.
But yeah, something like Barry Um whereas you know on channel nine,
Channel ten, Channel seven here in Australia or ABC, NBC, CBS and
the States whatever, you know, there are show the Blacklist is just wrapping
up after ten years. Yeah, you know that their brand dead TV people.
Man, that's actual an interesting article where it's like people are still watching
these shows, Like lots of people still watching these shows. No one's watching
Barry, no one's watching Succession. Despite the fact how much the media telling
how great these shows are, people aren't watching them. Well yeah, I
mean, something I've always said is you can't make good criticism without good art.
So, you know, people who want to write about TV. I'll
tend to want to write about something that's got a little bit of meat on
the bone and something that you know, has a storyline that's ongoing, characters
that kind of developed, whereas opposed to something like mcguiver, which is very
much how's mcgever going to get out of it this week? And I ain't
got out of it this week, so there's not much you can say about
it, so it doesn't get as much a publicity. But yeah, I'll
guarantee that, yeah, ten to twenty times more people, probably two hundred
times more people are watching an episode of Say well, this leads into what
you were saying about Barry. I linked on my Facebook recently this terrific article
in New York magazine about the current state of TV with streaming, with press,
DHTV, with PayTV, cable, all that kind of stuff, and
now it's basically a real shit show at the moment. And this agent said,
people watch Two and a half Men, or they watch Young Sheldon.
None of the writers I represent to want to write for those shows. They
want to write for Barry. Nobody's watching Barry. Everybody's watching Young Sheldon.
We get paid if we get paid, right, right that stuff. Yeah,
yeah, And I mean also with those shows, I mean they have
the real to the best of my understanding, I mean, I think Al
Powell, Matt Selman might I've talked about this, and also Bill locally talked
about this. They've got the writer's room kind of set up where you can
learn how to well you learn how to be a better writer for interacting without
the writers. But you want to get a chance to move up the ladder
as well. You become a show runner, become a producer, all that
kind of stuff. But I don't know, it's an interesting interesting times.
How do we get it to be talking about this again? M Yeah,
But I think I think the thing between say mcgeiver and Stargate with Richard dan
Anderson, I think the star, the star of Stargate was the Stargate or
was the the setup, Whereas with mcguiver it was kind of like he's mcgeiver
and he's played by Richard dan Anderson, Whereas it's Richard dan Anderson in Stargates,
if you know what I mean. The guy like Richard Daz and Jack
in Jack O'Neill was his name is Stargate. He was the star, he
was the Captain Kirk of Stargate. Okay, well that, yeah, I
imagine he was a pretty big get. For example, the Stargate in Stargate
was the Enterprise in Star Trek. Okay, because I mean, there were
so many Stargate shows, weren't there. I mean there was SG one,
this one, that one, there was Star Greak Universe, wasn't there.
Maybe I lost touch after SG one phinih and I started Atlantic As I think
maybe I'm not sure, but SG one was like a sci fi show that
even like little eight year old down I could understand and appreciate, enjoy.
But I think you know, if the show is named something named a character
and you're playing that character, then you know, if you're a fan of
that show, you're going to be like, it's like, wow, you
actually met the Stargate. No, no, you met you met Richard the
Nants. But yeah, I mean, but going on, going back to
what we were saying, I really liked him in this. I thought it
was great fun. Yeah, I mean one of those guys that I really
have a lot of. I mean, I could probably pick him out of
a lineup. But at the same time, we're like, who are you
in to my generation, he's Jack O'Neill, and to your generation, here's
mcgiver as well as as Jack O'Neill. But we were too young for mcguiver.
It was done. It was finished. Anyways, I knew what mcguiver,
even heard of mcguiver was because of the Simpsons. I've never I've never
seen an episode of it, only not because of the Simpsons. And I
know I know the concept because he gets out of situations. I've heard about
that mcguiver something. But Stargate SG one that was the thing for me,
and I think that's what when he goes to a con now, I think
that's what most people still absolutely it's the guy from Stargate. He's awesome a
guy when they play into that here, Yes, people have come around with
mcguiver now, I think like, oh yeah, mcguy, but that's awesome.
I feel like now it's sort of people are just a seed as a
cool concept as opposed to of that show from the eighties. Yeah, well,
I think there's original mcguiver. There's the remake of mcguither, but there's
also the Saturday Out Live spin off Gruber Yes, which became like the movie
of that is a real cult classic. I mean, okay, oh yeah,
I mean, and I'm trying to remember that some really high end director
likes it a lot of thing. It might be Christopher Nolan thinks it's like
like because I mean, you've got all these really prestigious film directors and every
once in a while and I'll say, oh, I really like that movie.
Like Terrence Malick is one of the great American filmmakers. He's like,
he's made like maybe ten movies in a career that spans about fifty years.
But everyone's like, oh my god, this guy's an absolutely Gene's in.
One of his favorite movies is Zoolander. Yeah. Yeah, So it's like
but yeah, Christopher Noel apparently likes mcgruber and a whole lot of other people
do. And there was this spin off TV series as well. Because it
became it sort of flopped in cinemas, but it gained this whole second life.
So yeah, I think that's the reason mcguiver is still partially in the
public consciousness. Of course, with just patting and Sell mccarring continue to carry
the porch. It's kind of like it in the nineties, when you know,
before geeked m was a thing, and now everyone likes Marvel and things
like that. But now in the nineties when some really cool celebrity be like,
oh yeah, I like Star Wars and everyone's like, ah, he
likes Star Wars too, just like one of us. One of us.
Well that's funny. I mean, because Dane I are hard workers. It's
a public holiday austraight, but we're still recording folks birthday on a day that
is not the King's birthday in what the hell come on, Charles? But
anyway, happy quote unquote birthday too. You know, um, we're initially
going to record um an episode of Tales of Future Uma Anthology episode the next
episode, yeah, anthology interest one with a very geeky um supporting cast,
including you know, the creator of Dungeons and Dragons. I think when that
episode came out, like, well you're really out dragon out some ner classics,
aren't you, Whereas nowadays be like, oh my got that guy,
they got the guy, they got the High Master like carry guy gags and
everyone tells me the Dungeons and Dragons. The movie is apparently awesome. I
really enjoyed it. Yeah, it's find of like eighties family adventure fun is
what someone described a bit like that. It's got his tongue slightly in his
cheek, but not so much. It's like, hey, guys, we're
sort of doing your Dungeons and Dragons movie. It's like, no, you're
just having a good time. Yeah, but no, it's really funny.
It's got a good sense of humor, got a great cast, you know,
Chris Pines a leap from the good Chris. It's got the good Chris,
everybody's favorite Chris. It's got Hugh Grant is just really really funny.
Hugh grantson there is the villain, but he's stilling a fantastic That's solved me
already because Hugh Grant is having some sort of renaissance at the moment, don't
you reckon? He honestly is. Yeah. Yeah, between this and the
he was in a couple of guy Ritchie movies and he's really good in life.
What the one? It was like a it was like a mob movie.
It's kind of snatches kind of vibe. It was about three years ago,
I reckon, Yeah, one called The Gentleman. That's the one.
That's the one, yeah, with Colin Farrell's in it, and yes,
Matthew McConaughey. Yeah, and Hugh Grants in it, and because normally he's
like, oh, well you know I think I well, I'm sorry,
but I think I might be in love with you, that kind of thing,
and he's that's what people remembering for him. Now he's just really steering
into playing like really sleazy Zon at times it just doesn't give a work anymore
either, like the way he just takes people out in the Red carpet,
just snipes them. Oh my god, that was hilarious at the Oscars.
Yeah, everyone and everyone was like hating on him for it, and I
was like, not stupid question. This woman doesn't no shit. He's just
like he's just basically just watching Carried It a few years ago. He's just
making a mock y of always like this is a solid joke. What are
we doing here? So yeah, Dungeon Dragons by me and check it out.
I believe it's um available to rent or buy on your very streaming services.
So yeah, give it a well, yes, let's do that.
But but yeah, overall, so you enjoyed the episode, I'm not gonna
lie I enjoy this one. I thought it was fine. Yeah, look,
I mean I'm not. I don't know, if you're a huge fan
of the Simpsons go to episodes. I mean, I thought this one was
taken very possible. A lot of them are very sort of I didn't think
this one is really did into that direction, but a lot of them.
Two can also feel kind of dated if they have a bunch of celebrity cameos,
but this one didn't have celebrity cameos. It was more than culture side
of things, Like for example, when they went to England, all the
references were very timely of the time. You know, you had the primary
pop and cool Britannia when yeah, where this one just felt like still in
twenty twenty three, what a lot of the world perceives India to be,
like to be sad and racist, but that's just that's not a lot the
stereo style jokes. Yeah, yeah, I don't think it was racist so
much as just like when we're trotting out the stereotype, which I guess is
racist. I mean, I think the maybe the most dated thing is that,
you know, clearly a tank doing the boys, but now he's transferring
it to what was Carvy Carvey. Yeah, yeah, but then he's doing
a variety of others. Favorite one of my favorite moments. I thought it
was very funny. Queen Queen Mamma jump actually wasn't too bad, but it's
like, oh, well, you're going to go for it, you might
as well in for a penny, in for a pound hand. I love
it when you answered the phone like, how are you doing, sir?
My name is Steve. I'm like, your name's like Steve. You've never
bet of Steve in your life. It also felt like, I mean,
particularly with the closing sort of Bollywood dance number and all, that felt like
it was more that felt paid tribute and paying a much. I felt a
mid pandering, but I also felt like just felt it came out of nowhere.
It's like I didn't even sort of lead up to that kind of moment,
just sort of like, and here's the Bollywood game, because you know
Bollywood. And I was like, I get it, but it just didn't
really do much for me. I'm just a sucker for those kind of dance
numbers. I haven't really watched a whole lot of Bollywood in them, but
the stuff that I have is really energetic and everything in a really great way.
It feels like oh, we're throwing everything in here, but it all
kind of worked together nicely. What I think they knew the remake of the
Light the live action Aladdin did very well. I thought they captured the vibe
of Bollywood in the Aladdin story so well. Just that was so bright.
I thought, dare I say it? There will never be another Genie Robin
Williams as Jenny. But I thought the song numbers in the live action a
Aladdin, just the music and itself, not so much the acting because Robin
Williams as Jenny singing the song fan like me so much better than will But
the music was just had so much more omph to it. It felt so
much more Bollywood esque. I thought they did a great job with with the
live action Aladdin. They did end in more unified theory of Simpsons and four
Finger discount Who directed that a Ladin remake? Guy Ritchie, Really I did
not know that you Yeah, I mean it seemed like a really unexpected choice.
But like I suppose, he's done his fair share of stuff about you
know, Larrikins on the streets and transferred to wherever Aladdin took place. They
once called them street rats, but now you know as I say that anymore.
At the start of the old Aladdin, it's like this movie does not
represent us message. Disney put the message up saying some of the themes in
this movie, no, really aren't legit. Don't worry about it, guys,
we don't believe in it either, but just you know, we didn't
want to touch And I appreciate that at least they haven't tampered with the original.
They put the notice up that's fine, but don't tamper with the movie
itself. It's funny because I don't know if they're doing it here in Australia,
but certainly in the US Hulu, which is the Disney Plus kind of
spinoff or the more adult one they show. They have the rights to the
classic seventies crime movie The French Connection. Okay, and in that Gene Hackton
plays his cop who was just like a very good cop but a very very
bad person and one of his traitors. He's a bit of a racist,
but there's one stage where he drops a vile racial slur that we will not
say on this on this podcast. They've edited that out, and they apparently
did it with that sort of notification of like they didn't notify the director or
anything like that. They just sort of cut it out, which is understandable
in these enlightened times. At the same time, but it's the whole point
of him saying it meant to emphasize how much of a dirt back is he
is. I mean, this is a guy who's like a really dedicated copy
wants to take down drug rings. He'll do whatever it takes to get the
job done. But at the same time he is dropping in words left and
right and all this kind of business. Someone pointed out it's okay, so
they kind of it, kind of saying saying a racial slur, But he
also was kicking the shit out of everybody without due process or anything like that.
So they're keeping in all the police brutality, but they've knocked out the
naughty word. Um, I don't know. Look, I love, I
love I would love it if they actually add it to the point where you
actually start firtypathy for the guy. So he did nothing wrong, we're talking
about it. A great guy, a good cup stand up for this.
I mean, I don't I don't mind places like Disney or any place sort
of having a thing up the front saying this was made a while back.
Some of these things, you know, they don't really fly these days.
You know, that's fine. I don't know. We're resenting it in its
original form, just so you know it's got this in it. Yeah,
just be aware. This isn't how it should be. This is not our
views anymore, you know. Yeah, so when your kid comes home and
say, I called here street rats, you shouldn't do that. Well,
it's like they put out the start of the Junger Book, right, and
Nicholas like, what is in the Junger Book that could possibly, you know,
be seen as like racist or anything like that. And I'm like,
yeah, King Louis guys kind into jazz and he's a monkey. Yeah that
might be it. She's like, oh, they wouldn't have meant that though,
And I was like, oh no, it's a pretty deliberate decision to
make that guy the monkey. But you know that we love the Jungle Book,
we love King Louis, we love our man Gym commings. Certainly do
love a man Jim coming. Yes. But yeah, but getting back to
the also, the the rd A plot, I just thought it was a
very fun spin on the obsessed fan angle. Well, usually it's the fans
stalking the celebrity, but at this point where the fans make the celebrity real
lies. Oh wait, I do appreci I do appreciate my previous role to
the point where he sort of wants to just outlive it, like live every
every single day, to the point where he sort of becomes an obsessed not
a fan of himself. Almost doesn't he very much? So yeah, I
mean he's using Patty and Selm where it is kind of like the mirror for
him to just to get a bit of reflected glory. Absolutely, Hey,
my favorite. What were your favorite moments from the episode? Though everyone knows
I'm a big fan of a collar tug, so it was nice, and
also a big fan of monkeys, so you combine those two. In the
final fight between the elephant and the monkey, where the monkey goes, hey,
nice elephant, you wouldn't hurt a monkey. I wish I was home,
and I was like, I wish this monkey had glasses. For some
reason, you wouldn't hit a monkey in glasses, would you look a bit
of an insensitive gag, But is also the gag on home where he's like,
I'm sorry him lead I was doing Karnac with my bodyguard. Now,
of course me and the sentence where I was a probably the only one you
get carn necked these days. But it was a rip. It was the
Johnny Carson. What does he do? It's when Bart's watching it. Yeah,
and he puts the puts the envelope to his head and yeah, it's
like Jeopardess Chief we can bub quartet. Yeah, it's like, what's it
like? What is hindu? Oh it's the it's the moisture on your hin.
It so not unfunny, but yeah, RDA with the I liked everything.
But when he's got the real captive crowd of the star Gate convention exactly
a star Gate to a great convention. What he definitely used that line before
in reality. Oh it's such a hello Cleveland. What does he say?
He's aware, he's aware of where we exist, man, So yeah,
I like that a lot. What did you enjoy out of this? I
enjoyed, Yeah, that exact moment of Richard Dean Anderson. I liked that.
I'm just gonna look for a man with medium heart, dark complexion,
brown eyes, and black hair, as well as on the second go fine,
yeah, as well as as we already discussed earlier as well. The
phone, the phone with the various phones in the various accents. I'm like,
it's just you can actually imagine it's still happening now, don't did that?

Lenny board? Worth? Three million dollars? Which made me roll my eyes
and I'm like, didn't he? I don't know. I'm just like,
was gonna flat flat? Yeah? I don't know, silly, But anyway,
a dollar house with what your first question for me? Where was the
mcguy of convention? It was in closet? Q wasn't But what place?
What was it? What was it called? What was the hall? God
damn sons of sicily hall? I was? I was a quarter? Right?
Yes? Um? The thermostat on the Simpsons house wall was set at
what temperature? Seventy something? Wasn't it sent three? Damn seventy two?
Nearly to My next question is when Burns and the family arrive on the boat,
they say it's going to be taken over by these people whilst we're away,
and the song and dance comes onto the boat. What is it?
What kind of cruise? There are a Dixie riverboat cruise dixieland booze cruise,
yeah, Dixieland booze cruise. Yes, I've never been on a booze cruise.
Have you ever been on like a party boat? I've never been on
a party boat. I have, I have. I've been in a party
boat on the arrow. It was quite good fun. Okay, yeah,
I mean, but you're also better have a good turn because the one's going
to jump overboard. What is the number of the flight that Homer takes to
India? She written, it's a forty seven. It's fifty seven. Damn
it. I don't know the rest of it. I was gonna was gonna
be one of my trivia questions, but I didn't write it down. What
was it? There's just flight five fifty seven? Is at all it is?
It's India Air flight fift India Air flight. Okay, and what's your
idea? One more for me before we get into our review. Where is
the Marriott located? No one in the phone calls that to the carving makes
no idea. It is the what what Marriott? I don't no idea.
What is it? Is? The Dallas fort Worth Marrier, Dallas fort Worth
Maria. Alright, well, that is trivia let's get into our review of

airdate of Kisskiss Bang Bangalore was April ninth, two thousand and six. The
top three films is the Davis at the US Box Office to week episode d
were Talladagan Knights, The Ballad of Rick Bobby Ricky, Bobby Barnyard, The
CGI film Was It This classic animation that was cause in CGI? Was it
Barnyard. It was just classic. I don't think I've ever seen Barnyard,
but I think it might be cgi. I'm confusing it with Home on the
Range. Just look that up. Actually Barnyard, Barnyard film? Who's in
Barnyard? Because it doesn't sound Barnyard. That sounds like one of those ones
that was not made by one of the big animation companies bought of animation stuff
where and we've got access to someone who used to be on Saturday Night Live
Paramount Pictures. And it stars Kevin Generals, Kevin James Costas, Oh my
God, Courtney Cox, Sam Elliott, Danny Glover, Wonder Sykes, Andy
McDowell, and David kirk Kirkner ken So someone a well known Australian actor once
compared me to David Keckner. Look at he's Champ kind from Manka man Oh.
I don't know is that a good or a bad thing? I wasn't
happy with it. I'm like, I don't really see it, but like,
if God wants to be this way, I'll say yes. I'm like,
I don't. I don't. I don't got not as much, not
much hair. Both sort of relatively heavy set people with bald heads. Yeah,
that's that's it. Yeah anyway, and you're far funnier than that guy.
Jesus thanks. But yeah. So that was made by Paramount Pictures,
that film, and it did well the box office budget to fifty one box
office of one hundred and eighteen million. Man, it's money back and then
something it's short. And the third film was Pirates of the Caribbean. Dead
Man's Chest was that the second one? Would it was the second one because
the second one was two days four I think, wasn't it. Yeah,
because it's Curse of the Black Pearl dead Man's Chest at World's End and then
people stopped carrying and then people stopped. I was thinking about this the other
day because there was like a fifth one. Yeah, there really was five
of them. I can't believe that. Yeah, there was five of them,
and I'm like, I mean I've seen the fifth one once. I
think I've mentioned this on the show in the past, but I mean Parts
of the Caribbeans is a franchise I wish I liked more because I got I
got a double whammy of like a flu shot and a COVID booster. The
other day, I was like, now I just want to lie down and
let the let the bacteria do its work. I just want to. Like
some times on this I wish I had like a saga that I could enjoy,
but I don't think it too heavily invested in Lord of the Rings feels
like a real conduct. I don't have twelve hours of a Lord of the
Rings. Yeah, but every time, and I'll put on parts of the
care I don't like it as much as I want to. Many times you
watch those ones, I'm sure a lot. Yeah, that's right, but
you gotta stop it three because otherwise, I mean, wait, there's more.
I know, I know, I'm kind of I don't know about Dial
of Destiny. I'm kind of looking forward to it. But at the same
time, so I think everyone's excited for it, and there'll be a bunch
of criticism about it, and then ten years ago buy and we'll go that
wasn't as bad as we thought it was. That's just that's that's gonna be.
That's gonna be how this film goes down. The problem is four is
so shit that it would be hard to sort of watch them. You don't
you don't want to buy the box set of all them. You want to
spend money on that. Yeah, it's like going to be buying the trilogy
and then the extra one. But yeah, I'm excited for it as well.
Yeah, but anyway, Yeah, dead Man Chest is the second one
in the original trilogy, and I think maybe the best. I kind of
like it when Johnny Depp was still flying high and what a fourth from Grace
Johnny Depp's He's become the new RDJ, right, Oh well yeah r DJ
before iron Man. Yeah, I mean he's yeah, yeah, it's a
real shame and all. Well, I mean if he's if he's a dirt
bag, then it's not that much of a shame. But I don't know,
just a toxic situation around from what I can gather, But yeah,
it's a real like a picture of Dorian Gray kind of thing because he was
so beautiful for so long and then all of a sudden, just like his
face just fell. This episode was actually written by Dan Caslaneta and his wife
Debby, so now they co wrote that. Really shit, Um what episode
was? It was the Forest Gump take off? Was it called what was
it called? Oh Gump Roast? That's right, that was a bad episode.
That was no good episode. Stick to the acting. Yes, this
one wasn't This one was much better. But it says here that Richard did
and Anderson voiced the animation animated version of himself as a return of the favor,
so to speak, because Dan guest starred on Stargate SG one the previous
year. Um and Anderson's character on Stargate Jack O'Neill, is known to be
a big fan of the Simpsons and often makes references to the Simpsons on STARGAHD
one. How about that? Yes, apparently their buddies the sort of returned
the favor. But anyway, nice and yes, it was directed by Mark
Kirkland. So the episode kicks off also the cash gag as well here and
also there was the couch gag with one with Homers you think it's home or
anyway dealing the cards out the family because he says wooho at the end.
How because they did that not long ago, didn't they. Yeah, feel
like they've re used the cash gags a lot lately. Yeah, definitely.
The episode kicks off with the family watching TV. I believe the birds are
showing a movie at work, that's right, And then he's sitting at the
back because he doesn't want to get sore eyes. And I'm like, there
was a chance to make an eye gag there and they didn't do it.
Oh that's right, Yeah, he shouldn't get something in his eyes. Yeah.
I'm like, well, clearly that's what you got. U. No,
you're making nuclear waste gag. I'm like, that's it. Sounds like
you were setting yourself up for the easy, obvious gag, which would have
made far more sense. But you know he's sitting there nuclear waste than Burns
wants to pay tribute to people have lost their lives, and we just wants
to see the movie, and we get a pro outsourcing video which I thought
was very funny, actually was pretty good. I'm tired now I got more.
Don't to play the lottery? Good ching. Yeah, as someone,
as I said, who lost their job when I worked at Forward Right and
they outsourced all of their work over to China. You know, everyone's to
constantly complain that Dando please get her called ja. They are people still complain
all the time, you know time and I'm not doing the shit anymore.
And the second they take their jobs away, you can't take our job,
GiB Yeah, you win all day. You take shortcuts all day. You
do nothing all day. You literally you're supposed to be working. You're playing
candy Crush like you don't do anything. What do you hate more work or
poverty? Yea working out. But you haven't watched the episode of South Park
recently. You have the where the dick dickon Bouse was a called where south
Cartman makes his own um restaurant, where he's saying, and it's guy saying,
you take the myobs. So basically they bring the guy back because basically
Cartman's trying to hire people and because of the pandemic, they want mental health
days and all these other days. And they're like, oh, we can't
offer you all that stuff. You mean you take them my job. It's
fucking so funny. It's so good, just like post pandemic work mentality.
But we on going down the South Park. We've got the originally took our
Jibs episode coming up? Is it? Yeah? I think it might be.
I'm sorry, I just love this is our Simpsons episode of course,
where this is full thing. It is getting We always somehow get back to
south Park. But I feel like South Park's taken over. It's kind of
leaching it and bleeding it. It's just so fun to watch South Park.
It's so good. Oh yeah, but how all those phrases have just sort
of end of the vernaculum and we're like America, We're about We're about this
is America is like the best. But I I didn't realize we're about to
review today after we finished this one, the Succubus Succubus right episode of South
Park. That's where dirp right, so the dep right, but derp started
in basketball. I didn't know that they created the word dirph for I knew
they created it, but I didn't realize I was in basketball. So whenever
there was something stupid, they go doop dop and they created the word dirp.
I love it. We had to review basketball as well, by the
way, we have to Oh, oh no, we're going to do this
is the four Finger Discount Network. Guarantee you folks, we're going to do
all the Parker and Stone movies. We're gonna do Team America, but also
the early stuf. We're gonna do Cannibal the Musical or Gasmo. That'll be
a fun episode. And while it's not a Parker and Stone movie, they
only start on it, but we're going to do basketball as well. Did
they not write Basic Ball? I thought they wrote it. No. No,
it's directed by the guy who did like Flying High and No Ship,
so they didn't. They didn't write it at all. I look, I
imagine they threw a lot of their own stuff into it. I always thought
it was their movie. I had no idea. It was definitely sold as
a Parker and Stone movie. Sorry, I'm just looking up Basketball nineteen ninety
eight movie. Yeah, written by David Zucker a screenwriter with a great name
of Robert Locashum, Jeff Wright, and Lewis Freedman. Would have to have
some say in the writer because it just feels it feels too Tray and Matt
for all. You know what I mean? Yeah, all them, Yeah,
all the cartmanesque stuff, that's it. I remember seeing him do the
Cartman voice, like when the moving when he does it's like yeah gas,
and I was like, it's like as a kid seeing him do that,
it was like so cool, Oh god, Yeah, it's like him,
he's the guy. He does the voice and he's doing motions to make him
look like a person. As we talk about on on our Gym, Cummings
podcast. It's just a magic to voice acting, isn't that where now you
just as if it feels like it's the big companies that the studios focus on
which name we can put on the poster as the poster, which is the
best voice. Absolutely, the magic of voice acting is slowly just disappearing,
isn't It's like voice actors are being pushed aside for just actors, just just
a voice as opposed to voice actors. And I think we got to,
you know, sort of throw a bit of the blame Disney's way to some
degree. And in yeah, they started with I guess Lion King, I
reckon Aladdin even but who was the who was the idea of Robin Williams?
Yeah? Yeah, And then you know with Toy Story, I mean it's
sold as well as it's got Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. Now everybody lums
Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. Well, everyone loves Tom Hanks. But Lion
King was the year before Toy Story, that's true. But I mean when
he was Aladdin, that was like ninety two ninety two. Yeah, But
who else was in Aladdin besides Robert Williams, Well, really just Robin Williams
but it was. It was very much sold as starring Robin Williams as the
gene Gene Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean there's not there aren't really.
I suppose there are big names in The Lion King, but they're more
sort of like I mean, Jeremy Irons, wasn't you want to ask about
that stage, I guess so, yeah, James el Jones, James gold
Whoopie Goldberg. Oh yeah, she's one of the Lionas. Jonathan Taylor Thomas
was the top of the world at that point. He was simber. That's
oh j Matthew, Betty Rodrick Yeah yeah, um and who was now the
Nile was played older alum anyway was played by She was in the first season
of The West Wing. Oh was it more Tianney. She's got a very
unique voice like the entire main cast. But or Roland Atkinson exactly, Ronandkinson.
I was going to get too. That's a boy, ra Kelly.
My apology Kelly to Nathan Lyon. Nathan Lyon was to moan Nathan Lane.
Yeah, Nathan Lanes, Nathan Lane. Yeah, Well for coming to America
fans. Yes, it was James el Jones, a mathas and Med Sinclair
as Sarabi who was also his wife and coming to American and the voice of
Pumba was the fat Nacker guy in the Seine Fowl Subway episode. Yes,
exactly, so you know he said, it's got a couple of names the
entire cast. Fine, fine, hey Dandy, you know we're not talking
about too much. The Simpsons. Kiskis bang and Bengal. We rejourn to
Kiss Bean Bangalore already in progress. Yes, basically, this whole thing here
is about the fact that Birds is going to be outsourcing the work to India,
and I've got here. This feels like it could have been a really
solid story for potentially the Simpsons movie. I don't think there was enough focus
on the impact that all these jobs being outsourced was having on Springfield as a
whole, because so many people are employed in Springfield and the power plant.
We're gonna get that one scene in most which I really enjoyed the fact that's
sort of taking the piss out of their own TV Japanese American that's the American
doesn't work. It doesn't work. Yeah, But I just think and I
like that, But I don't think they cut back to Springfield enough showing the
effect it was having on Springfield. You're right, I mean, like I
said, this episode felt very fifty fifty in a lot of ways in terms
of like how much time was delegated to each storyline. I don't know,
maybe a storyline We've got no jobs could be a little depressing, I believe.
I think if you did more of an episode about it than you could,
you'd have to put a bit more work in or like, well,
what are we going to do now that the plant's closed? And take out
the Richard deane An some plot and put that in a different episode, because
they didn't intertwine them at all. That was literally just an eight plot that
did not connect in any way. So take out that b plot and put
it in more focus on the impact that out Because outsourcing jobs is a huge
and very important story, right like that, that's a topic that is very
very controversial. You need to show the pros and cons of it, you
know what I mean. So now I like the way they wrapped it up
with Homer sort of telling all the people over there that you know that you
know that Smoco breaks and things like that. The thoughts a very funny spin,
you know, bringing bringing that great sense of American entire the rest of
the world now that's exporting it was very, very good. Um, But
I just think the whole outsourcing taking away their jobs needed to have more focus
on the impact that was having locally. You're right, yeah, I mean,
yeah, there's a lot, there's a lot of fruit that you could
pick from this particular storyline, because what would be call would be This is
what I'm saying is someone from experience that whilst it was terrible that we all
lost our jobs, what it did was light the fire under all these people,
all these men right who were in their forties fifties, who all assumed
this is what they're going to be doing for the rest of their lives.
It put them in a situation where they had no control of it, where
they had to go out and do something about it. They had to go
back to school, that their own businesses, that they had to find a
new way to make a living. Had they not outsourced our jobs, that'd
still be sitting at the end of that conveyor belt in a factory, miserable
of their lives, unhappy, right, complaining about their jobs, and just
just living on repeat, rinse and repeat day in day out right, a
lot of them went out and I can't remember. I can't don't think I've
ever actually spoken to someone since Ford's closed that is less happy than what they
were than when they were at Fort. At the time, they were all
scared. I think the world was scared. Everyone wasn't like angry. They
were just scared of what was to come. But they all were put in
a situation to force themselves to be better people, and they all did it.
So I think that would have been cool to see in Springfield, Lenny
Carl all these people that work at the power plant had to go out and
make new jobs and make a new living, and that would have been a
cool concept. Actually, yeah, it could have been a fun episode with
everyone sort of yeah, trying some projects with different with varying levels of success
and putting varying levels of effort as well. And then and then you could
end it with, for example, you know, the jobs come back.
I'm bringing the plant back. Initially they go, no, I don't want
that, and all of a sudden it was like, oh, but I
did like getting paid to do nothing. And then the Americans throw in all
these good work they've done because I just want to sit around getting paid to
hea donuts all day. That's how you end of the episode. Well played
down a very good, very good alternate episode that you've created there and should
have just wing that on the spot. But anyway, that's not what we
got. What we did get was Homer catching the bouquet. So he's the
one American who gets sent to run the plant apparently because it's always Homer.
And Homer's telling the family at dinner and they've painted on the phone and the
thumb stat on the wall and whatever and random acted night gag. Basically,
he's going to be moving to India, packing up shop and going over there.
You think the family would be going with him. But anyway you think,
but they do do a bit of ask covering with him thinking, oh,
I'm not going to Indiana. Yeah, he can think that, Oh,
okay, I go work for the work and I come home for the
weekend. But the family would still know, right, the family are well
aware for India is the family will be going a week going with your dad
or you're just gone forever. Anyway, don't don't think, don't ask questions.
Richard Dean Anderson arrives at the convention, but it's only because he's looking
for a way to get out of there to the Stargate SG one con which
is across the road at the coliseum or whatever. And SG one that would
have been going for what seven nine years was still won't have been a TV
in two thousand and six. Let's have a look. That's a good question,
I mean, because the movie was nineteen ninety four. Yea started at
ninety seven. When did it go to ninety seven through to two thousand and
two thousand and seven? So yeah, so it was on a sort of
last last season or two. How many TV shows were there? How many
were there? Let's go to the Stargate franchise. Shall we start franchise?
So we've got SG one in Atlantis in two thousand and four, then Universe
in two thousand and nine, and then a prequel web series called Origins in
twenty eighteen. There's Infinity as well. It's an animated one, is there
really I don't know, two thousand and two animated series Stargate Infinity. Okay,
there you go. Yeah, So there's I mean, and a couple
of and a couple of movies as well, a couple of director video movies.
If you want to make money in the sci fi world, start your
franchise with the word star and you'll be fine. Dot dot dot prophets that
two year two question. We get this straighted by South like a game.
Damn it, tray and amuse. Oh, Richard Dan Anderson, you finally
came to our convention. No, I'm looking for the convention for my new
show, Stargate SG. You won that it's over there. Say you're into
mcgiver. That show was so stupid. Oh, I'm a diver. I
can make a bomb out of a banana peal and a toaster. That show
was just a paycheck to me and nothing more. No, how could he
say that mcgiver is my world? Richard Dean Anderson just pissed off the wrong
Richard Dean Anderson fans. It is guaranteed to have been in moments like this
where an obsessed fans come up to somebody and they're like, I don't give
a fuck about that video game I was in, and I reckon Jim Company's
probably done that from time to time. Here's the voice of the character from
that video game from nineteen ninety six, and he's like, it was just
a paycheck and nothing more. I a family, mean, no, but
this is the thing for some people, that's what it would be like something
they shows themselves have an impact on the eyes. But to the actors,
not every role is going to be as important to them as what the role
is to us. You know, acting as of course, you know,
a wonderful expression of creativity and art and all that, but it's Yeah,
for people who do it professionally, it's a job. It's just a job.
Yeah, it's like a pause that doesn't fall in love with every person
they sleep with. Do they wait? Wait what man? No one,
if she's getting back to my messages, get back to me, Tory Black.
I love that you just know a name straight away. I don't think
I know any Jenna Jameson. That's I don't know what he wants that name,
but anyway, so yeah, so he's just a paycheck, nothing more,
and he's broken their hearts. But anyway, it's a Q and A
now at the SG one con and I just loved this. This is every
Q and A at every convention. Chard Dean Andrew Chin. The four Star
franchises Wars, Trek Geek and Search Geek is easily my third favorite. I
get that a lot. Question SG one, how would your character Major General
Jonathan Jack O'Neill react to appearing at the Springfield started it fan first? I
feel like I've just gone through the Starrogate to one heck of a convention.
He's a world of us and another thing. When you're at those things,
even it's like a sporting event or whatever, they do it at the wrestling
caught Off and they make a local reference and you know they're pandering. It's
got concerts do it as well, but you just buy into it because it's
part of the experience, isn't it. Of Course you know they say the
same thing at every city, but doesn't matter. Just hearing your favorite band
say, you know Melbourne or Geelong is like, whoo, why are we
suckers for? Why do we as humans just for some reason just love the
fact that they are saying where we're from and because we're we're tribal animals and
we love recognition. It's that That's pretty much it. I mean, particularly
come from a relatively yeah I was about to say a small town, but
we're a regional city talking about Geelong. It can very be very easy for
a place like us to feel sort of overlooked in the grand scheme of things,
you know what. I'm like, everybody knows Melbourne, but if you've
heard of Geelong, so yeah, so if you know a rock star comes
to town or whatever, it's like, hey, you know, I played
in towns all over the world, but well there's nothing quite like Geelong.
Yeah. Nicol Lake actually got me the other day because we're watching some Simpsons
on the weekend and I was like, I don't think I've loved her anymore.
We're driving through town. I was like, Oh, these guys skyscrapers,
like big building because compared to what Jelong used to be, all these
big hotels a holiday and they all getting built and I'm like, fuck,
there's so much happening in Gelong right now. Nikola goes, would you say
it's a city on the Grove? I was like, Nicola, I've never
loved you more. I love city on the Grove. It's one of the
most city on the grow grow that is that is pretty cool for that's good
stuff, which she very pleased with us all. She was pretty proud.
I would hope. So they kidnap him though, don't they Patty and someone
they shut the lights off and he's gone missing. The nerds think there must
be a starget in this stadium, and then there's a girl in the audience,
let's look for her instead, And then they think Willie is the girl
who's wearing a cult And it's the closest I'll ever get two thousand and six.
But are still Wickavenger still perceived this way in two thousand and six sweaty
virgins who think because I feel like Iron Man changed everything, didn't it?
I think so. Yeah. I really think it was post iron Man,
the start of the MCU. That because I mean even though there were big
comic book movies prior to them, I mean, you know, there was
the Toby Maguire Spider Man, there were the X Men movies, there was
Batman begins. Yeah, I don't think it was really till MCU sort of
really started to put its foot on the gas that was like, yeah,
that's good a camic can They're gonna be shore new trailer, isn't Oh they're
going to reveal who's going to be playing Captain America or thought or something like
that. It's like, yeah, it started to become news. Yeah,
so before this is very much kind of like, what's that smell in here?
It's the odor of Dork. But then RDA, he wakes up at
patty Is Someone's house and they say it's gonna be a two on one mcgiver
con that will never ever end, and start off by signing these autographs,
and I was like, damn, you can write help me all you want.
That's very funny. We're now at the airport. Homer is called to
his chair to get his call for boarding. March gives him a book about
management. Yeah, the cereal was what it? Damn it. I didn't
write down the name of the book, but I've seen so many ere you
go to an airport, the self help and business self help section is always
there's so many of them. They've always got times like this. It is
the cereal is the prize, which is actually not a bad title. No,
it's like it makes sense. But as I haven't said, it's just
like except it doesn't make sense. When it's it's enough to get you to
pick the book up. It's like, oh wait a minute, I've been
I've been, you know, searching for the wrong prize all this time.
You've been putting in your mouth the entire time you can taste the success.
I feel like you'd be a sucker. I feel like you'd be a sucker.
For a self help book, I feel like you've inflation. I really.
Yeah. My sister bought me Tony Robbins one a few years ago and
I still haven't read it. But I'm like, I reckon, if I've
read that, I'd probably be inspired to do something. I think the biggest
ones it can't be a fluke or it can't be that much of a con.
Now, you must be helping some people, like people must be benefiting
from your from your talks, because how are you how are you selling out
stadiums? You know what I mean? Correct? Yeah, I mean,
look the great Pta. There's a sucker born every minute, and you know
he was probably right. But at the same time, that hasn't stopped me
from you know, I've got a copy Tools of Titans here that remains uncracked,
and a few others. But Nichol and I have been start started.
We've recently started the Barefoot Investor and that's going well for us. Oh yeah,
Barefoot Investor is great finances. I've certainly done that. Yeah, I'm
just like, actually, we're saving money. I don't feel like I'm doing
anything different. I'm just not spending on useless shit like I used to,
which I guess is different, but like, I just I don't feel like
I'm missing out, you know, I don't feel like going out. I'm
just being better with my money. And when you feel like you're bettering yourself
and you're achieving something, it's just like, oh wow, this ship's working
and it feels like it's so easy. But you needed someone to tell you
to read if you really do. Yeah, no, I mean I was.
I had a copy of The Barefoot Investor forever and then just like,
well, I've bought it, I certainly don't need to read it now.
Everything just gonna go my way. I'm like, I don't I don't even
anything from some damn book. If this guy has sold ten million copies,
is going to be able to teach me anything. So I'm fucking hippie without
shoes, forget about it. I remember it. At some stay, I
was like, I've got funck all money in the bank and I got bills,
I'd better sort my shit out. And at my lowest point, and
that was the bad investors. Like that makes sense. The lowest point.
I started a podcast with Dander. It's like I said it before and that
was yesterday, but radio going, actually this makes sense and yeah I could
probably do that. So you started opening a few extra bank accounts and like,
okay, now you got to open this and one in this one and
yeah it works. Well. Still broke, but not as much as I
want be. Going on holidays is loved as Luise now, so that's all
that matters, right, That's why I'm broke. Before you read the book
at any met Luise, absolutely not the game. I think the last time
we went on holiday was the Barley where you know, everything is cheap,
including life, and now we're going to the States where everything costs triple Yes
it does indeed, yeah, it's um it depends where you go. Being
in American I'm like, you guys sold me on the fact that your food
was cheap. This shit ain't cheap, and I gotta tip you. I'm
gonna pay this guy. What money do you mean the business isn't paying you.
I have to pay for the food and your employees. What does that
make here? This is a crazy country. You're going here? Good coof
you, no one of your own source into India. Homer has never been
less angry to receive a book than sixty five hours later, he arrives in
India, which he thought he could confused for Indiana. So he thought India
was Indiana, which he confused for Illinois, which can then confuse the Cubs
for the Dodgers. By the way, I did like the Leo Coca founder,
the serial is the prize definitely dot dot dot useful. If you've worked
as a reviewer or a critic or anything like that, you'll see that.
It's like, definitely not useful, but it will take out the knot and
like that's your bull quote. There was a point where I felt like self
help books it was almost like embarrassing to reading them. It's like, oh,
you need self help book, but now it's just a complete opposite is
and it's like, no, you want to help check out this book.
Well I did the same thing and it worked for me. It is a
massive industry. Yeah, yeah, which is good, go ahead and help
themselves. It's you know, you don't have to take every speck of advice
they give you, and no, you gotta throw them and you find some
that resonates with you, and that's you know, that's probably enough for motivation
to turn things around. Hello, it's me. I'm in trouble. Come
down, dad. What happened? The CoA took my iPod and I punched
it? Do I have to? Okay, okay, I'll show the cow.
I adore it. M Oh baby, who did you lose weight?
Oh? Come on, baby, don't please hurt your milk. He's looking
for a poo's cousin. Carvey finds him straight away. Finally, then the
Richard and Anerson. He escapes or he has escaped, and Patty's padding's I
can't face jail and sorry. Salmon says that because she's got the baby.
But then Patty She's like, I can wow. Then he explains that he
escaped because he used his Blue contacts to hide his Latino heritage? Is he
actually Latine though, let's let's find that out. Is that is happened to
be a joke or is that like a little tidbit of information about the man
that may may I'm out may well be the case. I mean, I
don't think it's something they would make fun of him than they do sort of
notoriously racially insensitive on Richard Dean Anderson. American actor Ricardo descended, No,
no, no, no, um, you're happy for was like, wow,
Ricardo, No, he's definitely taking the piss because he is not according
to Wikipedia, which would not lie to us it um, he is of
Norwegian, Scottish, Finnish, Swedish in its German Swedish and possibly mohawk descent.
Wow. Oh yeah, so everything, he's got everything but understanding.
Yeah yeah, or Latino. I'm always curious about that. I mean,
whether listeners who are either up on this or of this particular nationality or creed
or whatever Hispanic Latino tell us what's what. I don't want to insult or
appear insensitive. We're now in. He wants to be tied up again so
we can trying to scap again because he's never going to love the passion for
it. My guy ever lives and not just on the two Am, not
just two am on the US. I love how when they do Patty and
Selma Julie because it's Julie Kavner. Yah, how she's basically doing Harvey Firesteam
from Independent. Oh I gonna tell my mother. Oh finally I need you
to make me a woman finally. Oh my god, he's awesome. He's
awesome, missus day. He is fucking fantastic. I love. We need
to do we need for Patreon. We need to go back and revisit um.
When Homer gets his hair and he plays Carl Harvey Firestein. Oh yeah,
because he is so awesome as Carl. That's one of my It's one
of my favorite bits in all where he goes to the tailor and you know
you disguise it. Oh if you had a tailor. That so brilliant.
Let's go shopping up in That's a great episode. Yeah, I think we
should, Yeah, find someone who wants to talk about that other than us.
Yeah, yeah, get him on board. Let's do it is so
good. But now back in India and Burns randomly comes out of the um
the basket like a snake, just because he wanted it, because he's a
showman. I was like, what is this Burns character? Now? Like?
What is he? Yeah? There's no really, I mean I know
we're sort of say continue, but I don't think they even know who he
is anymore. One episode he's a cruel guy. One episode he's like helping
Lisa. Next episode, he's a showman. I'm like, I didn't you
even know who he is anymore? He's just lost all sense of who the
Bird's character is. And we yes, human beings are you know, large,
they contain multitudes, all that kind of stuff, and he's probably got
many fasts to his character. But I think for the sake of I don't
know, good storytelling, certain characters should stay in certain lanes. Yeah,
it's just like the the way they handled the Burns selling the plant in Burns
the cuff and the craft work where he sells it to the Germans, and
you know, at first, it's like, you never take my plan away
from me. It's been in my family and I've built this up. And
they show him like a hundred million dollars on a little piece of card.
He's like, who, Like he sells it? Like like, I just
feel like the Burns in that episode. It's so much different to the Burns.
Obviously that was three, but Burns here just feels like a blithering old
man who's in charge of a power player actually has no idea what he's doing.
As Smith is the entire time is like he's sure it's a good idea,
sir, Are's sure, it's a good idea. Show shut up Smiths.
And I'm like, I don't know, just it's kind of sad seeing
where Burns has ended up now this snake bit coming out of the bus and
I was like, not even was that went forever? Okay? I like
the look of it, and there was ever and like I'm a showman,
I'm like, that's the punchline for that. I don't know, it was
weird. Yeah, I don't think there was even that. Yeah, I
like the idea of him coming out like a snake. I think that's kind
of funny. Yeah, but there was, but it didn't pay off at
all. It doesn't pay off at all. But I just think it's a
nice visual gag because I mean, he is sort of evil and snakes are
representative of evil and all that kind of stuff. But yeah, for Smith's
to say, what was that planning of that, It's like, yeah,
I don't know. You meant to be echoing in the audience here, because
you know, Dando's clearly asking that we're out in mos and we get them
pointing out all the different things that aren't American, TV, Japanese whatever,
and the gun misfires and mow and I like that. I thought it was
very funny. I needed more of this, you know, back in the
Springfield. It's like there's a reason that people around source. Yes, that's
the thing. Yeah, And that's what the Simpsons used to be so good
at. Was and Southpike do a good I'm not gonna get in the South
Pub. But they get a really controversial topic and they show the pros and
cons of both of both arguments and then you can decide for yourself. They
never usually sort of sland on one side or the other. Where now just
feels like Simpsons aren't very good at showing both sides. It's just like that.
I don't know this episode. It was a weird, like I enjoyed
it, but it was just there was certainly much room for improvement. But
we get Burns here introducing Homer as the new manager of the plant over in
India. He talks about he was playing Karnac with the bodyguard and I'd want
the moisture on him. And then Homer has no idea what to say,
so he gets Marge's book out of the bin. Because you know, he's
not a very nice person. He threw her book in the bin and he
beats off something and this was a good gag. Maybe if we cheer,
we can get back to work. The old yea and burns his soul.
What he thinks that he's went over the people and smithers s talk about an
arranged marriage. Marriage again. He's never mentioned again. It's just weird.
I mean, that's another box arranged marriages. They do arrange marriages in the
let's let's do that. Who would be awkward to have an arrange marriage?
The gay guy? The gay guy. But then calls Homer and this was
also I didn't get this. You know, He's like, yeah, yeah,
he just went Homer to say, just outsource our source. That's the
gay Homer is saying to outsource everything. But it's like there's a new bullet
and he's in the house and he's like, just the outsource. It hangs
up, and I'm like he comes across like a real shit dad does stuff
like that, Like I get that. I don't know, Like, yeah,
he's he's essentially lazy, yes, and he's fallen out of the spell
of adsourcing thing. Well, you know, it's an answer to all that
all my problems at least, Yeah, including the ones that don't really aren't
really sold by adsourcing. But you're right, it's it happened too quickly.
Yeah. Yeah, between the whole reading our bits from you know, the
serials a prize and they're like, oh, oh, so outsourcing is the
thing. I mean, you needed a scene in between where he realizes,
oh, if I delegate worked with everybody else, I don't have to work,
but I'll get all the credit. Yeah, you need that, yes,
but you know we didn't get that in here, and we're supposed to
sort of accept this scene where yeah, Barts on the phone saying this has
happened. Well't outsource that? Yeah, I don't. By the way,
who's that bully? Meant to be? Looked like Slugo from the Nancy cartoons,
and it looked like an old man, look like it looked like the
guy that played the Hamburgler that haven't beats up from behind. I just one
of my favorite things bits of animation in the history of the Simpson is the
Hamburgers Little little Finger. We that's the Hamburgler. Come. I just think
it's so good. But for carved dows on various phones but using his different
accents and Kazari, they're just showing off his now of the basis gags is
early racist because yeah, Brian from IBM and the concierge at the Dallas Fault
with Marriott and Queen Mambo Jumbo, Oh boy, but I am. But
I enjoyed it because yeah, you just know when when you're talking to an
American, there's never an American talent market to calling the shy. It's and
that's the thing. It's like, why you pretend to be an American?
Like, just pretend just talking your voice. I don't care. I'd rather
just be you tell them tell me about you. I just imagine you getting
your call. It's like, it's just the real you. Come on on,
Steve next. Okay, here's the plan. You lock me in the
trunk of a car and park it under the pier at low tide. All
I need are these everyday objects, a nail file, a farmer's almanac,
a gun with no bullets, some bullets, and three of my mcgib riders.
Sounds great. Can we do it during lunch? No? The last
thing was my favorite. Three mcgiver riders. I like that's awesome. I'll
just love that he's give me a now file a farmer's almanac and go without
bullets, some bullets and three er. I didn't get that bit cover without
bullets and bullets. That's that's funny stuff like this. This whole B plot
was awesome, It really I could. I don't think it's worth of an
entire episode, but it didn't need to be in this one, you know
what I mean? They could have, yeah, more comic con related A
plot and then have this one as I have, like him coming to the
comic con for whatever the A plot is, and then that branches off into
this B plot where they get him from that con. I think that would
have been funnier. Yeah. I mean, we've talked in the past about
oh God, you've taken two undeveloped ideas and smushed them together because you know
neither would fill a full episode, and that feels definitely the case here because
as you said, these two aren't related in any way, they don't intertwine
with one another, but the ap more, I think the A plot could
have been a full twenty two minutes for sure. Of the whole hoursource ye
didn't shot. You think it could have been a movie, And I don't
think you're incorrect, but um, but yeah, the b plot is one
of the better handled celebrity cameos. Always subtly guest in a while, I
reckon, I think so. I think so. Going back to what you
were saying, man, I mean, well what I was saying, what
you originally said about this being a movie, I think that'd be fantastic about
how if you have like a full length feature film episode of The Simpsons.
Yeah, Burns is outsourcing his stuff all over the world. He's like,
yeah, yeah, First he sends it to Mexico, is like, I
can you know, get things done for you know, twenty cents on the
dollar. And it's like, wait a minute, I just found I can
get it for fifteen cents on the dollar in this place. Yes, over
the some one side, Like, I can get it even gem if I
do it, you know, in the worst place on Earth. I was
like, if I relocate to Antarctica, not the worst place on Earth,
but you know, I can do it for minus ten cents. And you
know, so they end up in but they go all over the place,
and that's what you want from a movie, yes, yeah, and then
somehow they all they all find out about the benefits, the American benefits like
Smoco breaks and you know, over time and things like that, to the
point where it's just like it's cheaper to just do it in America. I'm
going back on America. Yeah, I think that write the second since the
movie Let's do it, Let's do it, take this episode never existed and
just you know, and just go over this story. It definitely is there
is something there for sure. Yeah, Bill, Matt, I'm sure you're
listening. You know, we're buds now after you did, you have done
an episode, um down and I will write this for a reasonable amount of
money and of course a fair chunk of the back end. Speaking of lunch
breaks though, pattyon someone suggests can we do this on that lunch break?
And he's like, no, now, star entitlmed Homer is now output in
ten times the power that the plant was back in back in Springfield. Um.
He quotes the book and Burns misinterprets it to think that, you know,
he doesn't need us here at all. It isn't it us here at
all. We're just leaving with ultimate power, absolute power. So it doesn't
that corrupt? Yes, And he says, I have to leave a dinner
enjoy my scooped out monkey head before it gets cold. And I was like,
is that a Temple of Doom reference? That's a Temple of Doom reference.
I'm pretty sure the Temple of Doom reference. And that was the scene
that used to scare me a lot when I was a kid a lot.
The worker then shows the various gods of India and homes, and the whole
transition to him thinking he's a guy just felt very rushed as well, didn't
it, Because they didn't they didn't allow enough time for all all these little
things to sort of bridge the gap to these moments. You're right, I
mean, we love the b plot in this, we love the Richard Dona
dance and stuff. But yeah, either cut it out completely and just make
this all a plot, yeah, and stretch it out a little bit.
So yeah, because I mean, Smithers a los to it with that Line's
like, sir, it doesn't absolute power corupt absolutely? Yeah. It's like,
yes it does, and but you give us a moment. Yeah,
it's missing bridging scenes. Yeah, I realized, oh wait a minute,
I've got absolute pour and give us a second to show him being corrupted before,
don't just skip to the end immediately. It's a weird thing because usually
I don't think we've ever had a Simpsons go to episode where they have a
second plot. It's always just the family go to a country and that's the
story and things happen, Buch, just stuff happens and they go home again.
Is this the first Simpsons go to episode where they've had a b plot
that's been completely unrelated to going to the said country. I think it might
be. And it's weird because it's almost like they went, well, we
need to have celebrity cameos. Oh wait, we can't find any celebrities to
having a show. All right, well we've got a cameo Richard Dan Anderson.
Let let's just work that into this story. But I just don't I
don't think this episode needed any celebrity cameos. I think it like the whole
transition here where's coming up with Homer is just um, you know, he's
now a guide and they're like worshiping him, and he's like they've painted a
planned and he's cut himself off from the free world. We didn't see any
of that. It was just explained with one line with Smith saying or burn
saying he's cut himself off from the the from the world, and I'm like,
when did that happen? We didn't see it happen, Like it's just
sort of it was really the last sort of like act was very rushed.
I enjoyed it, but just felt very rushed. There's a lot of you
having to fill the gaps yourself as a viewer. Yeah. But yeah,
but so Homer wins the free soda and that's why he thinks he's a god.
Then burns his floating down the Ganges and Smith says it's not a good
idea, and then he's surrounded by corpses. But then we come back for
some reason, Hommer has brought Linnean Karl to India. Yeah, and it's
a whole apocalypse now kind of shout out as well with the end with the
doors and you know, going down the river like that. I mean,
that's very that's yeah, straight up apocalypse now rip off, which is came
by me. That's yeah, fine movie to deliver from. So why did
why did he send for Linny and Carl? He said, they go,
Homer brought us over the India. It's like why Yeah, And I don't
know. It's weird these disciples, you know that the whole multi arms a
visionary who's got the multiple arms. I'm not big on my Indian gods because
because a Pooh says in the song we put the spring in Springfield, he
says the extra arms on Vishnu. Yes, he had fun. You learned
a little something to m Yeah, the Vishnu gag doesn't work without you know,
Lenny and Carl or without having some friends there or what of them.
But before we get to all that moment, though, we have Richard dan
Anderson now or dressed up. He's gone former guy. He's now pretending to
be mcguy. W's with the wig on and everything and wig He's met guiver
burgers which were made from slim gyms and cheese grater and some rubber bands to
hold it all together. And then then they get a great idea to get
him to leave as they start showing their own slides, and they bore him
to death and he jumps out the window and I'm assuming dies because you just
see it whack. I think Julie just did a great job with that narration.
The slide shows the various carriages. That's a landout. Sorry sorry,
sorry, sorry, very good. Then there's a he lets a note on
the window sill in grape juice and tears, saying that I think kidnaped,
which is or whatever? And that's it for Richard dan Anderson. But now
the Simpsons that ran me on the boat with Burns and smithers that the pockets
now like floating down the river. And he says home, he's gone mad.
He's cut himself off from the outside world. And then they arrive and
I'm just like, what's happening? When did this happen? This is this
is escalated in the space of a minute. If you boil it right down,
there's some if you gave it like an elevator pitch, it's like the
plant outsources to India. Homer goes to run it by accident. He becomes
really good at his job, and you know it, gets a high opinion
of himself. And because he's an India, he starts thinking he's a god,
because you know there's more than one god. He's like, oh,
well, if there's more than one god, then you know there's room for
one more. We need to see more of the workers appreciating him before they
we saw them worshiping him, you know, that's it. Yeah, so
I don't know, when you're boiling right down, it's like, Okay,
you've got an idea, you've got a good idea here, but you just
don't expand on all that. Yeah, he just needed more time. You
shot yourself in the foot with which you Dan Anderson subplot, which was great
plot. You put it in a different episode for somewhere else. Yeah,
exactly. So they arrive and immediately when I heard the chanting, I was
like, this is definitely feeling like Temple of Doom. And then you see
him and he's like, oh wait, what's the guy's name from Temple of
Doom? The leader? Mola m that's the one. Yes, terrify me
as a child, like that movie is scary man love for a kid,
like, let me watch that. It's pretty gnarly. I mean, Raiders
has got some gross stuff in it as well, but yeah, Templa doing
ramps it up though. Yeah that I think it was discussed before. The
dude with a heart beating heart and gets put into the burning into the pit,
but even just the you know, well, the feast is pretty gross.
I mean, I know you the chill monkey brains does a view.
What does it for me is the big snake and they cut it open,
all the little snakes around. It's like, I'm gonna do this. And
then the bit where the guys fall off the bridge at the end they get
eaten by the crocs. Yeah, but also even just gross slimy bits,
like you know, he's Willie Scotts going to reach into that thing and it's
got the huge, big praying mantis or something like that. But then you
think back to Raiders and you know there's a bit at the start where it's
like he's got a spider on his back. Turn around. Oh my god,
you've got so many spiders any back. Yeah. Up on Disney Plus
this week, it keeps saying, you want to watch these movies, And
I'm like, you know what, I do want to watch these movies.
But I want to watch these movies. I'd interrupt it. So kids go
to bed, Nicola go to bed to Nicholas never seen Indiana Jones and any
of them for real, Nicholas never seen them. Oh my god, I'm
actually looking forward. I'm actually going to make her watching moviney I want to
see someone watch him for the first time. Yeah, funny. I watch
Raiders with with lou And and two of her kids or two sons. There's
a bit near the end where Indians fighting that Nazi mechanic the big the big
game plane. Yeah, yeah, he gets propeller at the end. Up,
but he's this big, sort of big guy with a bald. Loo's
youngest son. We said, hey, it's you. That's that's not I'll
take that big. It wasn't. He meant it as a burn, but
it was kind of cute. Yes, it's like, hey, there's you.
I remember the first time I was like a teenager, realized that Temple
of Doom was a prequel. I was like, whoa, that's right,
yeah, because yeah, I think at that stage we'll be useful. Well
a sequel. It's a sequel. It happened. You have to win.
This happened before. Wow, Spielbergs done it again, hold up money backs.
What was it more to say about this? Basically, so they're chanting
abu shabai, which means vote union. Um, you know, because he
explained him that they've started following him because he told him all the secrets and
that was a good payoff. I really like that. That was Like if
this episode had all time and this all made a bit more sense, that
would have been a killer way to wrap it up. I think it's like
a really fun pay he told us about over time, and I'm just like,
huh, you guys don't get any of that. That's that's and the
fact that it's called a secret, like only Americans, like the Western world
gets that, you know what I mean, Like all these guys work't their
asses off, like they outsource all our work to their because they keeped all
these extra things a secret over time and been at all these extra benefits,
which I thought was just very very very well handled. Ending This man told
you about these things. Yes, in fact, he gave them to us.
Your a binding contract. A bomb shabay means vote union until no I
was with you, even the beast and beast combat that had potential. But
tweeting employees like human beings, that is madness. Oh you up here,
ill Tabe. Maybe it was your tacat personality. Dick would have mine.
Yeah, runs, but I reckon I've all had a boss that would definitely
believe this. Oh but a homer at least it's proud you have dad,
You've become the first minute outsource of the American workers sense of entitlement and privilege.
And then we get a really stupid weird line that's like, what's like,
how's chief Wigham? He was gravely wounded in a bay shoot out?
He's funny. Yeah, what happened to do with any of this? No
point to that. There was no need to have that at all, none
at all, Burns and fires them all two months severance. Then we get
a random Bollywood sung and dance at the end, and Smithers joins him because
Burns knows he wants to join in because hey he's gaya. The guys love
her dance apparently. Yeah, and that's the end of the episode. So
there is definitely a I would dare say, a classic episode within this somewhere.
Oh yeah, I think I think we did a good job sort of
reshaping and excavating it. Yeah. If this was like in like season four,
I've guaranteed this would be one that we look back on and is love
I guarantee, because there's definitely such a good story in there somewhere. It's
just a shame that they bloated the episode with the Richard Dean Anderson's story instead
of leaving that for something else, and didn't allow themselves more time to flesh
this one out and have it make more sense, because it was nice for
them to have a Simpsons go to episode that wasn't just a bunch of a
bunch of stuff happening and then the Simpsons go home again. No, there
was a story, There was a story, and there was a reason to
do this. Yeah, a strong for sure. What do we learn,
Palmer? Just watch a lean from the episode, mister Davis, don't get
yourself locked in the trunk of a car without a nail file, a gun
without bullets and maybe some bullets that I can't believe I missed that gay That
is gun without bullets and some bullets. That is good. Did I learned?
Well, I haven't written anything. I'm just gonna try to think of
something right here on the spot. Let me think of something. Let me
never look skin through my notes. That dander one guy could probably write a
decent Simpsons movie if we were given proper financial incentive. I feel like if
we were given three months to come up with something good, we could produce
classic ear Simpsons. I really do. Like it's just we're not the only
ones. I feel like there are a lot of people out there. It's
almost like it's weird. I don't know that the Simpsons writer's room is such
a coveted thing where it's almost like, I don't know, but it feels
like it's a hard room to get into, to the point where it's almost
like now you have those and I'm not saying this is true, but it's
almost like no one's allowed to come in in case you should outshow us,
like yeah, yeah, outshine us. It's almost like there are so many
people out there that are so talented that you just know would come up with
great stuff, who were raised on The Simpsons, who care about their characters
and want the show to be what it once was, and they're just not
letting them have that opportunity. From this knee forward, your name D'll be
all right, mister Davis did this time for the Guy David's New Name Championship.
The current leaderboard stands at this in first position, Luke McKay on thirteen
points, in second position, Adam Wollhouse and Heath app will be both on
ten points, and in third position. We have grown Harrow Hill and Karl
Muldoon both on nine points. What have we got for this week? Okay?
Then one point goes to the outsource's apprentice. That would be one Justin
Williams, who also got the one point last week as well. So well,
don't Justin. That puts you now on four points. Good stuff,
nice one justin two points four the dope jeeling limited? Not bad. Oh
that's our man, Luke McKay. He's now climbing further ahead, and I'm
fifteen points now watch out everybody, okay flying look and three points go to
I thought this is a really good one. Subcompetent. Oh he could,
Oh okay. So this one was from Clever Kyle, and Clever Kyle was
in third position, tied with Garrode Harry Hill. But now Clever Kyle is
outright second position on twelve points. All right, so third position is still
is now Adam Worehouse and Heat that will be both on ten points. That
were second. Then our third. We've got Kyle Muldoon now outright second on
twelve points, and Luke McKay is three points ahead of Kyle on fifteen points.
Now. This is the seventeenth episode of season seventeen. I believe there'll
be twenty two episodes this season. Let's just double check Simpson's season seventeen.
How many weeks left? We've gone twenty two, so there are five more
episodes left in this season, five more weeks to try and get three more
points to catch up Clever Kyle, and you know Adam Worehouse and Heath that
will be a couple of three points you'll be catching up as well. It's
very tight at the top of that our leaderboard there, so Luke McKay on
fifteen, Kyle mule Doon on twelve, Adam Worehouse Heat that will be on
ten, and Grode Harry Hill on nine. Very close. You can do
it, Goes, you can do it. Indeed, all right, mister
Davis, let's say it's time we get into that mail bag, reaching deep
and see what we can fish out here. First question near Andrew JP.
As always, he's got a top contributor badge on our exclusive Facebook community as
well. By the way, guys want to be a part of that,
Just going to be a supporter on Patreon two dollars per month gee access to
not only some exclusive podcasts, but also our Facebook community. So this one
here, He says, what's your favorite continuation slash remake of an old TV
show? I really enjoyed that nineties show. Despite the glaring Batman Forever mistake
that Dawn they pointed out on Twitter. It had a good mix of nostalgic
fan service and new characters. Wow. I didn't mind the Willing Grace one
once they got over the Trump gags. They were so heavy, so Trump
heavy for the first season, to the point we were just like, I
don't want to think about politics when I'm watching my sitcoms. Just fuck off
with that stuff. Yeah, they got too clever with it, but it
was nice to see. Yeah, it was nice to see those characters return.
Though. What else that nineties show? It was fine and I do
agree like it was nice fan service, but I maybe need to give it
another go. I want you to watch it later at night. So I
was tired, but it just felt too dumbed down for me. What about
you? What's the show that's sort of been remade or continued on that from
an earlier time. That's a really tough one. I'm having trouble thinking one.
In all honesty, I've heard the Connors is good. Oh yeah,
no, I never really, I haven't got I don't know where to watch
it in Australia. Is it on Disney pluts? Not on Disney Pluts.
I don't know if it is. I have not seen it on this do.
Maybe it is. I'm not too sure, but I've heard the Connors
is good. I've heard The Fuller House does a good job of sort of
continue on the full House kind of vibe. I'm think pretty sure it's been
canceled now after like five seasons, but you know, to get five seasons
out of a show like that's a pretty good run in my opinion, especially
in twenty twenty three. Anything else that comes to my mind, I can't
really think of anything that comes to mind now. I think you can see
the Connors own ten view in the okay, in a stream. I mean
you've got to watch those pesky ads though, oh Man and Magan, so
you can't skip me. Then I'm like, oh god, But that's enough
answers anyway, all right, Next question my Boston Burchess. He says,
who is your favorite cult hero? Favorite cult hero? Wow? Well,
cult hero? What defines a cult hero? Cult hero? Yeah? That's
a really good question. I'm going to google best cult hero is. Who
it comes up to might give me an idea best cult heroes. Let's have
a look. I guess always a sport sporting people. Yeah, a writer,
musician, artist, or other public figure who was greatly admired by a
relatively small audience, who was influential despite limited commercial success. Okay with that,
Yeah, absolutely, there's a guy named Nick Drake for me. He
was a UK sort of singer songwriter. Died at a very young age.
It was either a drug overdose or accidental or deliberate. But he made like
three albums and they're just really good and you can sort of see and feel
his influence for a lot of stuff. But there's a good biography. Well
there's a biography amount now. I don't know if it's good yet, but
I'm going to pick it up for my travels and read it on the plane.
But Dick, Nick Drake, here's my guy. Alrighty, Justin Williams,
is there a staff from one of your favorite shows growing up that you
would like to meet Brucie Baby? Well yeah, yeah, I mean I
would have loved to have met Bruce Beck in his sort of although I wonder
doesn't want to speak ill of people who are going through roughish times at the
moment. Bruce was apparently a bit of a prickly character on occasion, but
I would have loved to have met Bruce. Yeah, every of you was
a prick. It's like he's doing the thing he's doing that. Bruce was
a prick too, who was someone that I would like to meet from much
haild as well. Speaking of our man Jim Cummings, he may not be
the one on the show, but he essentially, as people say, voiced
our childhood for those of us that grew up in the nineties. So getting
to our do work with Jim has been an honor. Really, you know,
he's this man is a dare we say god in the Disney world.
He's um no, he voiced so many of the iconic characters from my childhood.
So it's that was pretty well. What's nice is that you know,
when you meet Jim, he's exactly how you would hope he would be.
Isn't he very affable fellow, very very quick witted, but very friendly with
it? Dear, you don't feel intimidated at all. He's he's a bit
of a warm hug of a human being, if if he wouldn't mind me
saying that if when the poo was a human being, it would be Jim
Cummings. There you go correct. Finally, here Alice Kayley Burton, she
says this is one of her favorite episodes from the later seasons. Our union's
a big thing in Australia. Yep, yep, this is quite apt for
those of us in the UK. There are so many strikes going on at
the moment. Yeah, Australia used to be particularly Geelong. Geelong used to
be so heavily based with manufacturing, didnaturing. But you know the thing is,
taking all that away from Geelong hasn't impacted Geelong in the sense that Geelong
just feels like it is just booming now because we're no longer a blue collar
town, are we? We were for so long in the place were a
blue collar, sleepy hollow. Nothing's happening down there. It's where shit got
made. Yeah, it's where she got made. It's now the opposite,
isn't it. Yeah, it's becoming a lot more white collar. Like we're
almost an India and there are like a lot of places are outsourcing there.
Yeah, they're there cortisines are like, hey, we can build offices in
Geelong and pay half the rent, if maybe even less, And we can
pay them less because the cost living is less, you know. So it's
like, yeah, people are starting to realize, Hey, that Geelong place,
that's a good thing we can take advantage of. It's a city on
the grow. Yeah, but yeah, the whole Union aspect. Really,
I appreciate a lot more having gone through my job being taken away from me
due to outsourcing, so I definitely appreciate it that that angloist. Wish they
handed it a little more thoroughly. Finally, he actually this more more,
Glen Gomez says. He says, which actors have you seen in a show
where you've also seen him in a previous show and you can only all you
can do is envision him on their previous show. For me, whenever I
see somebody from a big sitcom, usually like a you know, Sean Hayes,
for example, He'll always be Jack. He'll always be just Jack,
won't he. Yeah, he just wanted he just wanted a Tony for his
work on Broadway. So yeah, congratulations Shawn Hays. But Towarus, You'll
always be just Jack. Yeah. And you know, for example, even
dare I say Mark Hamill, people see him it's like it's Luke Skywalker.
Oh yeah, to the point where he I feel like it maybe one of
the reasons why he delved into voice acting, because then you wouldn't see his
face and think, oh, it's Luke Skywalker. It's we grew up with
him voicing the Joker. I didn't realize it was Mark Hamill until I was
much older. But he is so good at it, and I think that
as he benefited from not being able to see his face because it was such
an iconic role, He'll always be seen as Luke Skywalker. So I think
voice acting was such a huge positive for him. Yeah. Absolutely. I
mean it still happens to some small degrees. I mean Predera Piscal is obviously
doing quiet well, he's got various gigs. But you know, I think
Mandalorian for me, though I sent the message he's not in the suit anymore
correct ye, Like he's doesn't seem like it should matter, But for me
it matters. Oh yeah, like it really matters. For me. I'm
just like, oh, he's just voicing. Oh, it doesn't feel the
same anymore now that I know that, you know, I mean not that
the last season was any good really anyway, I feel like that The Mandalorian
has really lost it lost. I tuned out halfway through. I think I
watched maybe three episodes, and I think the last one I saw was where
little Baby Yoda not gonna call him grog Baby Yoda. Yeah that calling grogu
baby Yoda, that's his name, did the backflips and won the little sort
of sparring content, like you know what, not for me anymore. I
watched The Way Indoor season two. I'm like halfway through the season, and
I'm like, how have they fucked this up? Yeah? The Mandalorian,
it would it was like a thing that could go on forever. It's just
like Space Sheriff goes from town to town clean shit up. Yeah, how
have you fucked this up? You know why? Because you're so infatuated with
a fucking universe that you tried to incorporate it into a Bob fat and you're
so focused on creating a fucking Star Wars MCU, like a Star Wars version
of the MCU, that you have to watch everything to stay over complicated it.
Like you said, it. Literally, it's just sheriff goes to town
and fixes the issue. That's all it needed to be. And you've made
it too. You've just fucked it. You've sucked it. You played yourself.
Yeah all right, but anyway, that is enough. Let's wrap up
this from S. Davis of the Kisskis Bang Bangalore Review. Hope you guys
enjoyed it. I am, Yeah, definitely. This is one of the
better the Simpsons go to episodes because it's not just the Simpsons go to episode
just could have been could have been much more detaining and much more you know,
revered, if handled with a little more care, could have been a
little titter. Yeah, tast episode though from season seventeen that we're reviewing is
the wetter story he's ever told, So looking forward to get into that one.
I don't remember that one at all, so interested to see what they
can throw at me for that episode. But this has been our review of
Kiss Kiss Bang Banglare. By the way, we didn't meage what this the
titles are play on what is it, mister Davis? Well, um,
yeah, there's one of my favorite movies is called Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,
which came out a year prior to this episode he did starring Robert Downey Junior
and Val Kilmer. But I want to see if I've got this right,
because I believe that Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was also the Japanese title of didn't
the guy that from Predator make? Yeah? That's yeah, that's Shane Black.
Yeah, yeah, did did he? Did he direct the original Predator
or the new one? He was in the first Predator? He was,
he directed the new one? Yeah, he's the guy who tells the pussy
jokes, yes, yeah, and he also did a bit of a He
also did a bit of on the on the set riding and yeah. Then
he did the Predator a few years ago, which was not good. It
was um the theme song for Thunderball or there's a Sorry, there's a lot
of confusing information about this, but essentially there is a James Bond song called
mister Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Okay, so that's where it comes from as
well. I'm just looking up here. So do you know how much money?
Kiss Kisskiss Bang Bang made something like ten fifteen million dollars, so it
cost fifteen and it may back fifteen point eight. Yeah. Not good,
not good, But you find that happening a lot, especially now is so
many good movies and not making money at the box office anymore. It's just
we're now viewing habits are changed. I don't think you can take box office
taking this into account as a true reflection on what people think of a movie
anymore. And it's really no, everything's going to streaming and video on demand
so fast, I mean fast X. The Lays Fast and the Furious movie
was in cinemas for maybe three weeks. It's add on video on demand now
you could watch the Poe. I think you've got I think it now has
to change for movies from like let's say twenty twenty two on, what's twenty
twenty one onwards? Maybe, but from the pandemic where you don't put up
the box office taking to take box office plus video streaming. So I felt
the streaming costs need to be out accumulated into the money that the film has
made. Look, these are really interesting and turbulent and challenging times for the
entertainment industry because you know, streaming, Yeah, no one wants to pay
for ship. I mean, whether it's streaming or piracy or whatever, it
has really kneecapped a lot of things. You know, and like we were
saying, art is creativity and expression also, but it's also you know,
you've got to make money doing it because that money goes back into other projects.
Dare I say the money has gone back into television? True true movies
do well at the box office, but I feel like the ones that make
the most of the ones that people like Netflix are willing to pay to have
the rights to, or he said, to have the rice for example,
like a Game of Thrones and things like that, Like that's where you're making
your money now, right, I think. So. I was talking about
this with a friend of mine long ago. I mean one of my one
of my heroes, one of my guys, as Ben Affleck, because he
strikes me as a really smart guy. And he did this long interview recently
around the time of the release of Air, the movie about the their Jordan
Sneakers at that which he directed, and he sort of formed this production company
to finance it and all that kind of business, and he was talking about
he seemed very savvy about the way the business was organized and how you know,
he had one of his old movies of the town that he sold it
had been on other streaming services but then he sold it to Netflix or a
license of Netflix, for fifteen million dollars. And he makes the kind of
movies that it's like Sunday night, there's too many options. I can't keep
streaming. I know that movie. I recognize that movie, and it's going
to go down easy. I was like that the other night. I mean,
I had so many options to watch, and I'm like, I'd seen
Air maybe three weeks earlier. I'm like, I can't be asked looking for
more stuff. I remember liking this, and there's probably that I've missed the
first time. Let's just watch this again. And that's the kind of movie
that will keep making money again and again and again and again. Yeah,
but I don't know, Like I said, interesting times, challenging times.
What's the thing also with streaming now is that we're so blessed with how much
content is out there, but the fact that there's so much content out there
now that it's hard for something to be made, appreciated and remembered because you
just forget it the second you start watching the next show, Like how many
shows have you watched? And you have so absorbed in and then a month
later you forgot that you even watched it. You're like, oh, yeah,
that show. That was really guys. I dedicated fifty hours and I
love to watching that. I haven't thought about it since. Yeah, Tarantino
said something about this recently. I mean, you know, he's sort of
got called out Ryan Reynolds, but he said, yeah, the reason I
make movies and put them in cinemas is so you'll remember the experience of going
to the movies and seeing it. Ryan Reynolds makes like makes all these moves,
and Netflix like Red Notice or The Adam Project or Whatever's like I I've
watched both of those recently. I'm like, hey, was that did that
happen in that movie or that movie? I just know it was Ron Reynolds
sort of you know, smoking and dropping one liners and ship. Yeah.
So yeah, I mean they make a lot of stuff. That is something
I read. Really that struck a chord reasently. It stopped being up when
you started calling content because that's when you know machines could make it. Yeah,
it's good for the like for us to consume it because we've got We're
so blessed. I was trying to explain to Eliot yesterday because I said,
go to bed, We'll take the footy for it. He goes, what
does tape it mean? I was like, fuck, you'll never You'll never
understand what that means. I was like, we're gonna save on the He
gooes, okay, so it'll be on the TV. I'm like, yeah,
you'll be on the TV's like okay, but like the idea of having
to say something. But I was explaining to him about the video stor because
I said to Nicola, we have this joke whenever we drive down Shannon Avenue,
the gym sure the gym on the corner was video easy. I must
always say, do you know when I was going used to be video?
I'd say every time, just to annoy Nikola. It's just a joke,
right, And now it goes, what's the video shop? And I was
like, that's where when Daddy and Mummy were your age, we used to
have to go to the shop if we wanted to watch a movie and it
wasn't at the movies and we didn't have it at home, we didn't buy
it from the shop. We could go to this shop and they would have
all the movies, and if they still had it there, someone else hadn't
borrowed it. We could borrow it, watch it and take it back.
He guess what did you have to take it back for? I said,
so someone else could watch it. He goes, didn't that TV have it?
I was like, it's like, it's like and made me realize how
lucky kids aren't there and they don't really understand the concept of having to just
appreciate the three movies that you owned on tape, like summer holidays, you
own five fucking movies and you just watch the shit out of them, right,
and yet you where like now kids they can't sit through a movie anymore.
They're like because there's just too much there to just We'll at a party
on Friday for one of my cousins and the kids were sitting there and it
got the fucking YouTube up through the PlayStation or like Elliott's age, and they're
watching like thirty seconds one video. No, the next one, they're watching
two. Let's put a diff one and put that one. I saw that
one. They got from video to video to video to video. I'm just
like, they can't sit still, they can't focus anymore. Well, that's
funny. I mean that that thing about you know, short attention spans.
That's been going on forever. Yeah, but it seems that the window seems
to be shrinking with each generation. Like Elliott watches this channel, well I
don't let him watch it anymore. But it's called Fun Squad, right,
And it used to just be a family they have like five kids just making
home movies, just being fun, like you know, cooking challenges and things
like just having a bit of fun and have clearly been like I feel like
bought out by somebody because now you're watching and it used to feel like a
home video. But the fact that it felt like it was a home video
was the charm of it. But now I timed it the other day.
It doesn't go more than five seconds without a zoom in or a cut to
something and a cut to this, and I'm like, no, one of
kids have no attention span. They're fucking they can't concentrate on this. Some
very savvy person at a YouTube or some consulting firm has gone the algorithm tells
us that they're like this, this, this, and this, Please include
all these things in your next view and don't go any longer than eight minutes.
Yeah, oh okay, So it's just like like like they're talking there
and then like closes it close up of his face and it zooms out and
it's close up of her face and then like a wacky twelly thing, and
I'm just like, this has been ten seconds. We've had like six camera
changes. Why can't they just why can't they give to have the camera?
I could literally get a headache watching it. Allie's just like I like it,
and like he's getting more addicted to it. I'm like, that's it,
plug pulled. You ain't watching this shit anymore. But enough about round.
We've gone forever we haven't. This has been a long ass episode,
but I hope you guys enjoyed it. I feel like I was actually talking
to one of our one of our patrons recently, is like, you know
what I like the most about the show now is when you guys just sort
of just just talk about shit. He's like, no, the Simpsons is
great, but like the Simpsons season seventeen isn't really the four finger discount show
by season seventeen isn't really the reason I listened to you guys. I'm listening
to you guys review the episodes. It's more just having you guys in my
life. So I'm just like, I'm not gonna stop us from doing tangents
anymore. And obviously I'm not gonna go this long every time. But occasionally
in previous episodes he'd be like, sometimes, you know, it became for
him, this guy Andrew Swansey's name, love him. He's happened us with
a discord. He said to me, it almost became like a drinking game
where guy would go off on a tangent and after a couple of minutes you'd
go. But anyway, back to the episode, it's like see the Lion
Dando. It's like you'd constantly kind of guy from the tangents. He's like,
just let guy go, Just let him go off on these tangents and
if it doesn't work, delete it. But I'm like, you know what,
I'm gonna sit back now, let guy go. And I feel like
some of the conversation with go today have been a lot of fun. Race
yourself for a lot of tangent that don't work, or you'll never hear that.
They never hear this conversation anyway goes thank you all right, that's it
with a reviewed kiss Kiss, Bang Bang Glow. The next episode is the
wetter stories of ATBs, so David's any find words for those amazing listeners out
there, Oh, amazing listeners. I hope you've found this podcast episode definitely
