Mmmm. Oh, it's your lucky day because Giant Bomb is back for day two of E three, twenty sixteen. I'm your host, Jeff Kursman. Before we get into guests and guests and guests and more guests, I'm joined by some members of giant bomb dot com, including Jason Astracker. How's it going, Hey? Really good? Hi? Yeah, I'm hype man, fucking hype. I'm so excited to be here. I've had like five fifteen red bulls. Okay, good, Yeah, that's so. I'm upright. I don't know if I'm really here, but that's fine. I feel here as long as you feel here. You're here. Alex Navarro is here. Hey, Hello, Hi, how's it going good? Yes? Great? Awesome, great as well. I've described my hype level as moderate moderate, moderate is severe, no, not just a mid zone medium? Good? You find your type face on this good? Solid, medium. Yeah, we are here. The day two of the show is over. Day three is tomorrow. But let's talk about what we saw today. We got Dan and Austin out in the field, still actually checking out games stuff. Yeah, they'll be back soon, I think. Yeah. Yeah, Dan's all the way back. But it sounds like Austin. We'll see in Detroit. He took he took a late Detroit. Yeah yeah, he's a taking taking a red Eye to Detroit just to check the scene. See what's up, eminem if we're building the economy out there? Yeah yeah yeah developing games now, I'm yeah. Yeah. His first game is called drop It. It's a puzzle game. It's like a match three thing. It's uh, it's pretty big. It's pretty big. Oh well, so, uh we we did see some video games today, Brad, what what? How to go out there? What's the word? Saw a few things. It took a few meetings. Yeah, like what shook some hands? Alex and I want to see Tacoma this morning at the Microsoft booth. What's what's up with it? That's all. It's all different now, fully reimagined. The gameplay experience is what the meeting said. They have. It's a competitive they have They have Hero Shooter zero in zero g log Instagram, insta GiB Okay class based on a space station that sounds awesome with with the chock rifle. Okay, great, j Yeah, I went to play that game last August when they brought it around, and they have like completely ripped it apart and rebuilt it since then, okay, and I pushed it back a little bit and it's now a twenty seventeen game. Like they they actually redesigned the entire space station, okay, because before the whole thing was zero G and it was a lot of like, oh, you got magnet boots, and now the floor is the ceiling and stuff like that. You know, you're going from surface to surface right now, it's like a big spinning two thousand and one style space station because they wanted there to be parts with gravity where it needs seemed like people would actually live. Yeah, but there's also like a zero G kind of spindle in the middle, so there will still be some of that stuff. They basically said that the original version of the game was just Gone Home in space like it was. You know how Gone Home was one hundred percent linear. Yeah, it was like you found at the audio log they wanted you to find first, which would lead you to the audio or the diary the second one, and then you'd find the key. Like they didn't want they had that, that's what they had, and they didn't want that again. So now it's that's sensible, that that's yeah, that's that. Yes, yes, and they said it's not linear now right, like they're there were wings of them, sorry, there were wings of the space station. So you can actually kind of explore any part of the space station. It kind of rockets at your leisure. Maybe maybe wings like branching never mind, yeah, yeah, no, So like they weren't extremely specific about that stuff, but the idea was that you should be able to explore it own pace there will And a big part of that is this aar sort of log system on the station. So a lot of the sort of like narrative archaeology you're doing in that game is piecing together these logs from the six crew members that were on the station that I guess have disappeared. Is that the idea seems like they're gone, like they were supposed to evacuate, but they didn't evacuate the way they were supposed to or some something happen. Something happened, Uh, something happen. And the AI on the system on the station is is corrupt, not in like the very you know how nine thousand evil like he's doing menacing things way, but he's just not helping. They straight up mentioned Hall and show Dan and stuff, and they're like, yeah, we get it, like evil AI as a thing, and like we're trying not to just do another one of those. Yeah. But so the idea is, you know, you're watching these uh these log things take place, and it's like it's it's outlines of the So like every person who's on the station has their like kind of form sort of scanned into the system, and the system tray them throughout the station and it creates these sort of like holograms that are like representations of the people, but they're not like realistic, like they don't face it. They're just sort of amorphous colored blobs like that sounds kind of like the echoes in the Division a little bit, yeah, yeah, a little bit, And each character has a color assigned to them, so you can easily tell who's who. Yes, Like the idea is just that the the AI is recording everyone's like motion and voice data like twenty four seven, Yeah, and so you're finding little bits and pieces of data you can reconstruct to kind of watch these scenes play out. But the big difference is that like when I played it last year, like sure enough, just like you was saying, like you would find a text message or like a security log or whatever that's took the place of like the diary pages or whatever. But but still those were tied to specific places in the environment like wherever the designer put them right, and you would you would go and then and you just find it wort to some time of space station and you liked be misinformed as to how to perform anyway, Now they are conversations are much bigger and span multiple rooms. It's like people come and go, there are multiple conversations happening at the same time. So you've straight up got VCR controls now on these big ar scenes. Okay, they're like they can be like three or four minutes long, and you can like fast forward rewind, you can go in different rooms to hear what different people are saying and see what they were doing. So it's it's it's like it's like nonlinearly sort of just absorbing the story in whatever order you encounter it in a moral like kind of through osmosis. And I think they kind of they kind of emphasize was that there really isn't like a critical path necessarily, like there are things you need to find out in order to get to the end of the mission, but like there's no like there's nothing in those logs that like, if you miss it, you're fucked. Like you can you can piece together the pieces you want out of that, and ideally, you know, lots of people will probably just try to get everything right. But you know, if you know, you just kind of want to move through stuff and explore more and don't want to sit there and watch every piece of a conversation, you don't have to. You can kind of just see it until you if you want, Yeah, exactly, when you know that you are satisfied, you can move on, Okay, all right, Yeah, Yeah. It seems like they really stepped back and looked at what they had and like didn't want to just make the same game again. And that's cool. That seems like a good call, yeah, because looking at it, it was like, okay, well this seems like it'll probably be gone home in space and that's that. And then at that point, you know, like the space part of it doesn't matter that much. It's like, well, will this story resonate? Yes? No, is the thing that matters, like the particulars of walking around and gone home, like not to say the art was bad or something like that. But you know that whole thing hung on the story, so that seems like a waste of a perfectly good space station. Yeah yeah, yeah, it looks it looks super promising. Yeah cool. Yeah, all right, Alex, you made your way around a bit. I did the one, the big, other, big one that Brad and I saw today was the God of War demo. Yeah, so that was our last presentation of the day. I'm super bummed that Austin is not here to talk about the presentation they gave because I was not sold on aspects of this game. It was Corey Barlog was there. He's running this thing, which I didn't realize. Yeah, given a big pitch for like their vision for this thing, and like I totally bought it. Like, but there's they got a lot into the so it's a sequel, okay, like this, Yes, Crenical with a K, cratos Ky Spartan rage with a K. The big the big data point, yeah, yeah, the big data point here is like, yes, this is the same character. This is some time after God War three. He moved to Norway, like a lot of time. So that's the thing they pointed out, like, yeah, he's like half God, He's immortal, so sure, but he's like, you know, he's great, right right, So that but they but they implied that some significant amount of time may have passed some last game, all right. They were purposely ambiguous about that. Uh. But like the they're they're big abstract pitch for like how you move from Greek to Norse is like he gave a really eloquent, uh, sort of framework for all this, which is the kind of every culture's mythology is sort of equally valid and all taking place at the same time parallel, right, like kind of parallel mythologies. I kind of basically the way he was describing it as if effectively like they're all sort of telling the same story or come from the same place, yeah, and just get there in different ways, you know. So that's kind of how it's just killed everyone. Yes, there's nobody left alive in Greece. Greece is decimated at this point, so let's go for him to do. So he's he's moved on to the Norse Lands, and they're kind of ambiguous about the time. The thing that he framed was like very much of the Viking mythology was that the gods had abandoned them that they fought for the gods, but at the same time, the gods were not there anymore, and so you know, the hopeless like someone killed them all. Well, yeah, and so the hope was that, you know, they would come back one day, but you know, so, but that was Viking times. This is in a way, I guess pre Viking times is pre Viking. So there are people there, but not a great many, and they sort of exist in tandem with the various creatures of that time, Like trolls were the kind of the bag like that big one that you saw in the demo, and like the little er enemies are resurrected warriors that neither went to Valhalla nor hell they're straight up droggers from Skyrine like he used them. Yeah, okay, I mean not not that Sky invented that idea or something, but and so yeah, if you thought this was going to be a game about the nature of fatherhood and potentially shitty fatherhood, you were one hundred percent correct, because that is the theme that he hammered home a whole bunch during that demo. The idea is that, you know, Kratos is sort of trying to get his ship together like just gonna get out of town. Get up together. Man. It's just got a good try out for a little bit. But this town has used up. Man, he has seen his beat. We got to get out of here. The thing he straight up said was that, you know, the nature of Kredos was maybe a little one note, especially after a certain point. Dude, it was. It was fucking crazy. I was sitting there listening to him as if he had just heard like one of your rants about Kredos being a fucking boring, angry character, because he literally described it as one note. Yep. Like he straight up said, like, yeah, we may have put our foot a little too hard on that pedal and just left it there for that entire series, like done the cruise control and wrote it out. And so they're trying to pull back and like make them a real character and not just a dude who wants to function up Like the word character a term character development came up like several times, and in a demo for God of War that could not have sounded crazier. But like the way they were, Like the demo we saw was the one from the press conference. Yeah, okay, but they spent a little more time kind of going through the environments, kind of showing off a little bit more of the exploration elements of it, and kind of just like he would just take pauses to just sort of explain like what they were thinking when they were doing you know, like changing the perspective, you know, focusing on the story stuff and the way the combat works all that. Yeah, and you know, like they really hammered Holmes, like we the whole thing with Kratos in this is that he is trying to get his anger in order, Like he is trying to be like regain some of the humanity he had all but abandoned like when the first game started, all right, and that you know, like having his son there is sort of like him trying to balance you know, that seething rage inside of him and also like trying to be a person. All right. I feel like what's father? Wasn't that part of the story from the original franchise, Like like by the time the two or three, wasn't there something like oh, well, I'm not got my family together. Oh wait they all died the family and now now I'm all over again. Yes, yeah, so yeah, we don't know exactly what's going on here. Like I said, is the mother out of the picture here? And he said, that's like he wouldn't answer it. But that's an aspect of the story, major aspect of the story that makes sense. I'm kind of hoping for a little bait and switch, like he's a terrible father to his son and you're you're training him, you're raising him, and he becomes the next god of war. So here's the Here's the interesting thing about that is that the kid is actually a commandable character. Yeah, I saw I thought I saw some saying that there's literally a sun button square button. So basically what you can do with him is that you can point. Basically, all you have to do is point your your target at whatever you want him to focus on, and he can simultaneously he can do some damage on like weaker enemies, but he can also distract bigger ones by like you know, firing arrows at them. And so if you have a bunch of dudes on screen and you want to kind of you know, separate out the groups a little bit so that they're not all coming straight at you, like, all you gotta do is just figure out, like what strategy do you want and just have him focus on that. Can you pick him up and use them as a shield that has not that was not in the demo that we saw throw them onto the back of a big guy and so like dig in there. Yeah maybe. And I mean the other difference is that from what I remember of the earlier God of War Games is that his original family was when he was still kind of a human, like there wasn't like that demigod aspect of it, whereas this kid is post him becoming a demigod and Demi kid is also a demigod family guy before the first one. Yeah, yeah, the prequels, they were alive like in the PP one everything and there was the thing we're gonna hug him and like crushing in their orbits would come out or whatever, like the Elysium field like there was. This is like as divorced from all that stuff as it could possibly be, in like in tone, mechanically, like everything about it. This is good protection looks like yeah, new life, Like I don't I don't know what like ascension sold, but it's really like heartening to see them take on this different direction. Yeah you know, I mean, I'm sure. And the money right up at the front he was like, you know, we didn't want to be precious about this stuff. Like the whole purpose of me coming back and doing this was I really wanted to tear this thing apart. I wanted to, you know, put all the pieces on the table and be like what's important? What can we do differently? How do we rework this? I'm so excited. Who was the lead on that one? Yeah, oh wow, yeah it was you know, he left games for a while, he went off and worked with George Miller and some stuff. Yeah, he came back saying like, you know, I was like, yeah, I think maybe my my storytelling shops improved a little bit by through that experience, and yeah, I'm ready to bring that back here. And he talked about like it's kind of a really personal pitch for this thing, because like he was talking like his wife is Swedish and they have a small child. Is the child of Demigod? Probably? Okay? Is it a semi demi Gods? It seems like maybe maybe like fourth I think, okay, okay, But you're saying like, you know, his son is learning Swedish from his wife, and his son at like whatever age is already already speaks more Swedish than he does, and that the relationship in this game is exactly the same because Kredos became like a wanderer after all the ship went down, you know, he kind of walked the earth and ended up in Norway. But his son was born and raised there, so like his son is a native of this land in a way that he can never be. Yeah, so he's kind of he's a little fish out of water where the sun has some kind of inherent connection to this place that he doesn't. Like. That's kind of the dynamic there. We should also emasize it's not necessarily exactly Norway. It's just like it's a very general scandin nature. Yeah yeah, okay, yeah it was kind of Yeah, I meant that like slightly foot Yeah you know what I mean. Yeah, yeah. The only other thing I'll say, I don't know if you have anything to add, but like I super appreciate when a guy like that will just give straight answers, yes, even answers that will probably make the pr like cringe a little bit. We've seen like a mishmash of like, you know, different games. I think like showing it this, did he cite anything? Yeah, that's the thing. So I like, so he said it's not open world, but it's he said, it's he said, it's way more open, but not open world. And I didn't quite know what to take from that because like, so this demo they had more UI turned on, I think than they did at the press conference, because because like there was a point where his like trapping skill leveled up, Like there are different types of experience points you're getting and stuff. So I was like, well, that seems like something you would have in an open world game. He said, the recent tomb Raiders are a good reference point, okay for what those are open game, Those are open. There's a linear structure there, open but still linear. Yeah, I want to go around and do stuff in those areas. And he said this was probably even more open than those, but that that's a good, like a good more good kind of yeah, reference point for that. What about combat, you know, I mean it's obviously it's not the chain blades anymore. He's got that AX. Yeah, the OX seems like the centerpiece. Yeah, so there is a combo system, but it's not like the chain combos like before. It's yeah, so the main thing about the AX is that you can throw it and then you can bring it back to you power that brings it back kind of whatever. I mean, it's demigotic. Yeah, and he kills and he gets So the joke he made was that with the way that works, basically you could throw that thing down at some point, get halfway through the game, and then call it back and it will appear again. Now, you probably don't want to do that because you probably won't be as power like easy to kill enemies that way, but and also the programmers, he said, would hate it. But yeah, so the notion is that thing is kind of a free form thing that you can move around and you know, use for combos, but also just like use it to pin enemies away while you do other stuff. Right, yeah, yeah, Like it sounds really dynamic and like the thing I had noticed. I didn't see this in the press conference, but like when you're fighting that giant troll, every time you hack away at his legs, like new decals of damage staring him. Yeah, and it's all like pretty real time. It's like like pretty much like one to one with where the acts would impact on the creature. Looked it looked really nice. Yeah, that's neat. Yeah, that game looks really promising. Yeah, I felt good about that one. Cool, and then I saw a couple of other little, smaller things floating around Tremor. So I've I've played the Wee Happy Few demo. That is exactly what they showed at the press conference. The thing you can do in that is you can kind of move around the environments a little bit more and just kind of like look at stuff and do things. But it's the same idea because you do not get past that part because I heard about that game actually is like a procedural survival. It is. And that's the thing is that they don't like once you once those cops show up and you fall down those stairs, like that's kind of where the demo ends, Okay, un presumably where the survival stuff starts. Yeah, it seems like it. So so I don't really know, and nor do I really understand how all that structure stuff is going to work. But the notion I have is that there will be specific story beats that fall in there depending on how you do. But the idea is you're trying to survive in this world where like you don't want to take these you know you pill Yeah, you don't want joy anymore. Uh, and I don't and everyone in the world is going to be against you to some degree. And I don't know to what extent extent that kind of spreads out, but uh, the main thing about that game is it's like it's got a look, you know, like it's got a style to it, and I am fascinated with it. I thought it looked great at the press confidence. Yeah, so I hope that the actual progression of that thing lives up to it. The developer that made that as the same developer that made Contrast, which is another game game that I liked very much in theory, I thought it was okay. In practice, that's how I would describe it was. Yeah, So so we'll see how that one shakes out. The other one I played was Bound, the sort of dance heavy uh, sort of like not exactly platformer, but like kind of third person like jumping, moving, like very movement heavy kind of game. Yeah, that thing. It's a very short demo that they're showing. I didn't see the VR version of it. There's a VR version, but I played to the regular version. But man, they're just a movement in that game is kind of awesome, like real fluid uh you know, simple mechanics, Like it's like there's a button to dance, there's like an avoidance move. Uh, sush the dance button. Yeah, you can kind of run and jump. And that's pretty much it, or at least from what I saw on the demo. And you know, there's it's a very abstract sensibility like outside of like these like little memory sequences that seem to sort of like be the interstitial between levels. There are no faces in the game, so anything that's expressed is just done through like character movement, all right, And yeah, I don't know like that. Like again, it was a very short demo, so I don't know how it progresses over time, but like it makes a real good first impression. Yeah, cool, cool, cool. I keep an eye out. Yeah. We went and saw Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment. Yeah, and it took a look at their lineup. I played Batman Arkham VR or what they're showing of it, yes, which yeah, like I it's like hearing there's more than what's in there is kind of shocking. Well yeah, it's you know, they describe it as a VR experience and you're like, okay, is this thing just going to kind of be a tech demo or something like that, but that will be a connected narrative experience when it's done. I don't, you know. The way they call it a VR experience still doesn't make me think it would be especially long. And the way they're kind of handling movement and stuff like that, like you know, I don't know, it's not gonna I don't know how dynamic or action packed it'll be, but the combat at all not in this. They were showing you were able to like throw a batter rang at something. Yep though. Yeah. Yeah. So they were showing two separate demos. One was like be the Batman and another one was like a detective mode style thing like essentially what we saw on like the previous games of like you know, you're kind of scanning the area of rewinding, you know, the yeah CSI Batman basically yeah, yeah. And so that thing started out with like, you know, you're sitting at a piano and Alfred comes up and you know, tells stuff, yet you kind of have to I wasn't really sure with do For a little bit, he hands you a key you stick at the piano, and then I picked up a phone and listened to two messages from I get to hold the phone up to your ear and listen to Vicky Vale say that she wanted to hang out or whatever it was. And then eventually the phone rings and you turn the key on the piano, play some keys, and you dropped down of the bat cave and suit up very slowly, very this whole thing was very slow and not specially interactive in a way that was you made your own fun, though. He kept pick picking up pictures and like just three, Yeah, there were items. You know. It's like you pick up a picture of you with your parents at a very young age and throw it at Alfred and you know, just kind of flip stuff around. And so I was doing that and making my own fun, yes, because yeah, it was just very slow, and you know, you descended to the bat cave and then it becomes like okay, stick your hands in these things and then you'll come out and there will be gloves. And then the cowl shows up and you pick you grab it and use the move controllers to grab it, and the move into your head. Yeah, and then a little shaky and then you put it on and yeah, it just seemed like this like the whole Yeah, its off in the mirror is like I'm the Batman and it was a little blurry, uh, but yeah, so you know they're giving you gadgets. So basically you're represented your your form is represented by two hands that are not attached to arms, so Rayman hands. And then if you look down, you see a utility belt at your waist kind of just a front thing. And then as you know there's no clothing, there was a belt floating like floating yes, yes, sorry, yes, floating belt. Is that intended as like ui of a source? Yeah, because you look down and that's where the batter the batterang is is mounted to the front of the belts. Was this is this trespasser the looked down to see your ship. The forensic scanner is at your left side. You might maybe you could put that on either side. My my case was the left side, and then there was a grapnel gun that was at my right uh. And yeah, so basically you know, from that point it's your hands are interacting with objects. You in the in the second demo, you're you're kind of looking around. If you see a little bat symbol, you can push the move button to teleport there, and it's just an immediate snap. It's not like Batman's gonna jump over there. It just do you teleport around this environment. You can kind of grab the grappling hook and shoot it around if you want. There wasn't really much to grapple to h in the demo. Uh but really it was just like use the forensic scanner was the thing you did in the second demo where you just see night Wing dead, which is which is like a little a little crazy, but anyway, uh, you you you equip that scanner and then it becomes like I've got to figure out you know, there's a lot of just Batman talking to Batman. I've got to figure out why he's dead. He's got a lot of injuries. I'll figure out where the injuries happen. And so that you are turning the the forensic scanner like a ring of uIP peers around it to pause jog shuttle kind of thing. So you're rewinding this footage of him with an unknown assailant to figure out when, you know, when his jaw got broken, and then you when you get to that point in the footage, you pull the trigger and it says he bro's his jaws broken, and then you rewind it some more or fast forward and it's like ribs crazy, doesn't how did he? Why did he die? And then you know he teleported another spot and see a witness and I gotta figure out who this is and you see him kind of you basically you jogged the you rewind the footage until you see him put his hand on the wall and then click the trigger and it's like you're scanning his fingerprints, and then you know who he is. And then that's the demo. Does it look like that same like unreal Arkham art style? Like does it look like those games? Yeah? More or less? Yeah, yeah, but fuzzier. Yeah, the whole thing was a little still had that tone kind of the color scheme and everything, like essentially the environment just the overall look of it. It was blurry in a way that a lot of PlayStation VR games are not like it. It looked like there I've seen plenty of fidelity wearing PlayStation VR. This thing seemed early. Is this PSVR only? Yeah? Okay, I mean it's called Arkham VR, so I'm guessing absolutely. And also what I mean, it's not going to be on Pcso, uh, well, I don't know. I think they've only announced it for PS four, but I can't say for sure. It looks like it's move controller only because of just the whole thing. Is you moving your hands right? And so like I took it off and they're like what do you think? And I was like, what is this exactly? I'm not kidding, maybe not, because like you know, I was like, is that gonna be the thing? Is this gonna because you know, when they say it's a VR experience, You're just like, is this what you're putting out? And is this gonna be some demo that comes with the thing for free? Because then that you know, okay, sure, Like I sunk in the bat Cave and hearing them say like, no, this is like a there's gonna be a narrative FU narrative, but I mean it's gonna be a murder mystery where you just go around to crime scene and figuring. I don't know, Like I threw the battering a lot and it didn't you know, I've thrown a lot of things in VR now, and this felt kind of bad because it was like I was trying to like flip a battering up and catch it. So I was doing very light tosses, but any momentum on that thing, it just goes and spins away, Like okay, yeah, that that doesn't that's kind of you were able to switch hands with stuff too, because you're lefty, right, so you pick stuff up and yeah, you could actually transfer it. That's something, yes, yeah, but yeah, it just doesn't seem like you're overly positive about this. It seemed all right, yea a demo, pay check it out. We're making a VR thing for the very first time, and we're figuring it out too. They didn't give any indication of like how much it might cost or how it would be packaged up, did they not that I've seen. Maybe they've put out some materials that kind of give a little more detail on that. But yeah, this was just the two demos, and they said that there would be some connecting experience to this thing, but it just it's so hard to tell how all of this is going to shake out. You know, they mentioned, you know, fifty titles for PlayStation VR, and we don't know how it's yeah, yeah, but you know it's just using that equipment, you know, like the rewind Jock shutt olds, you know, detective stuff. That stuff works well enough, but everything about like grabbing, like the you know, you see your hands and theoretically you could punch a person, and you've got the battering that theoretically you could throw, and you can theoretically swing or grab people or grab things. But none of that felt like it would be dynamic enough to capture, say the combat of the Arkham game. Sure, you know, it's a very different thing. It's a very very different thing, and that requires there's no way you can do that in first person anyway, I think because the situational awareness and all the cues of like above the head, I mean, they could, they could do that and just one on one setting, you know, Like I'm not saying like, hey, exactly, you wouldn't you wouldn't do that. That the point I think there's maybe some merit to the idea of a Batman game that focuses almost exclusively on the detective work. You know, like you necessarily need a Batman game with a ton of fighting in it. You're right, you're right. But but by the end of that one detective sequence, I was like, Okay, had enough. Cool, Sure, that's neat probably would need some variants to flesh out, and in fair all, all the detective stuff in those games has been dead simple, just kind of like right, follow the follow the cues. And this was exactly that too. You know, you had Batman going like I need to look at this. Nope, that's not where the injury occurred. Nope, that's not where the injury occurred. Rewind a little further, like, oh, this is where his ribs got smashed up. You know, It's just I thought those were fun when they popped up in the Arkham Get because the thing is the wick and yeah, the tiny little thing in these bigger games, But if it's just one after another, I think i'd get if it's like yeah, yeah, I mean wet to see what other things they craft for this, but yeah, the I don't know, man, that thing seems like they're figuring out what VR is because everyone is. I guess right that may that seems like exactly what that does seem to be the theme. Yeah, Injustice two was also there and playable. Yeah, I'm pretty uh pretty stuck for that. Yeah. That was a big fan of Injustice, man, that game's a lot of fun. Yeah, Yeah, it's it's neat, it's it's MK in a lot of ways, but it's back to block. I'm really saying. I really feel like a like a superhero playing that game, like it's Superhero Mortal Kombat because everything's so over the top, you know, but yeah, this is a totally more Injustice. This is uh, it feels exactly like that. We're not doing too much. So so like what did they have that they were showing. It was a handful like five or six, So Supergirl, Superman, Gorilla, Grod, that guy that starts with a processus. There we go, Aquaman and Batman road. I think it's weird that there was no flash because he was kind of the centerpiece of that trailer. Yeah, but you know flashes in the game. Yeah, they had a huge like character select screen where you just had like shadow down one looked like Quinano O'Brien and shit like that. Yeah, they they were. They've been using their fake silhouettes for the past couple of games at E three, so yeah, it's that. That was that was cool. Obrian just really in that game. Yes, whatever, I mean, he is a DC superhero, so of course he would be. But it was super easy to hop into that, you know, because it feels very much like the first game definitely, you know character power, you know, light, medium, heavy, like the lot of same attacks. They're kind of changing up some stuff like you can you know, you could use a little bit of meter to do enhanced versions of moves, which is kind of a thing for them. That's here as well. Yeah, but now you can use that to do like you can meet a burn a dash, you can that is Yeah, that's going to change the dynamic a little bit. Yeah, which is neat. It looked nice, you know, not well, they've got some optimization to do, I think on the frame rate and stuff like that. But obviously the game's not out for a pretty significant twenty seventeen, right, it'll probably April when they ship all their games. Yeah. That always every other April they'll put out a game. So the big question that we had is how is the gear going to write you know, a factor in because this actually gives stat bonuses and after every match, and I don't know if it's going to be like this final game, but like after every single match, we were getting like one or two pieces of loot, right, and it was for you know, characters, that we weren't using as well. So you know, if you just Maine girl, you'll still get stuff for much sprays. Yeah, no, no, this is because some of the stuff is cosmetic, but it has numbers attached to it, like you're you're leveling up, you know, your character as you go, but also you're equipping things that will have like additional speed boosts. They've they've exposed, they've exposed a lot of the numbers. When you're selecting a character, it'll give you those minutes like okay, get a three percent damage boost when you're one percent health or something like right, which you know, like how are the turn five around? But you know, but that's you know, that's all early stuff that they're still working on. And uh, you know the I think the big concern when they started talking about gears, people like this is going to completely unbalance the game, and they're like, yeah, of course, so we're gonna turn it off. Well, I got a different vibe. So I think they're kind of married to that concept of gear and trying to find a way to balance that. I think they're going to try that first, and I have I have a faith in that, Like you know, when uh, you know, Mortal Kombat came out and they had three different styles. It's like, how the hell are you going to balance this? And I think they did a pretty good job. Yeah, so I have faith, but it seems like, you know, they know exactly, you know, how daunting it would be to balance all of the stuff. But they're gonna give a shot first. If it doesn't work out, the backup is, you know, turn off the numbers and leave the cosmetics, right. So, but yeah, you know, there are some cosmetic changes you make to the characters, and they're too like, you know, I looked over and saw none of the screen Superman with a hammer and sickle instead of the s and you know, like like like what what does that mean for? Like, you know DLC costumes because that was so it was a big thing in the first game, you know, all the costumes. Yeah, but if they're if yeah, if they're just dropping loot after every match and stuff like that, can you form a lot of those costumes there? It seemed like, how do they what do they sell? Maybe nothing? Maybe they're just like, oh, you know, we're done with the DLC costume route. It's all in the game. It could be that's probably not. It's probably not because there's like more significant like that, you know, a hammer and sickle, right, maybe that the stuff that they sell is like the pure cosmetic stuff like that. But no, I'm totally ready for another injustice. Yeah, I booted it up last night. Just see how it felt. I could totally get that's right. You literally brought a PS forty three. Oh yeah I did, like, yeah, yeah, I drove with. I've got good internet connection. Man, I've got two TVs. I won the hotel lottery. It's great. Stairs, there's stairs. I've never had stairs in a hotel room. I had to move out of your room. I've checked them so many times. But man, the stairs go, they go down into my den, alex den. So you have two TVs? Are you in one of those weird sweet rooms? I think so. I am too, But your sounds way better than happen. I have a garden, a teaching garden outside. You just go smoke there. Yeah, I just got I have two double beds and it sucks. Sorry. Yeah, my room is is it gets cold. That's the best thing I can get out at the same Yeah, yeah, gets really wooden wood floor paneling. Once you get a shawl. Have him sent up a shawl ropes, Yeah, he did. This is an injustice room too, Yeah, good stuff. Yeah, A shower is awful though, so it's it's kind of either mine. There are no good showers in that hotel. There are no good showers in any hotel. Ever. It's always confusing whether hot or cold. Nothing's ever labeled correctly. That's great. Ours are just aren't labeled at all, Like there's no labeling on it. Yeah, you have that range of motion though, so you start off and you kind of find it, and then you split the difference, pulled the trigger and then just let it. Say mind it comes out scalding hot in the center, which seems wrong. Really, Yes, that doesn't seem like that's the way that's supposed to love that. I barely get the hot water. And Dan, you saw some games I did, mainly Resident Evil, Yeah, okay, I went into their little haunted house Resident Evil seven, Biohazard yes? Or did you see Biohazard seven Resident Evil where they showing that? Okay, I guess on Steam they put up a page for that, and some Capcom games have like both versions of the name with a slash between them. So I think the Steam entry says resideval seven biohazards slash Biohazards seven residue, which is the best thing, the best good stuff. I had a lot of thoughts about that, because when I saw the reveal, I thought it was either going to be really good, like the first really scary, awesome kind of you know, big developer, you know VR game. It could be awesome and rejuvenate the series, or it could be a total train wreck and and be terrible for it. It was initially exciting because it's like you can play through the entire game in VRS, like okay, all right, now, we gotta yeah, yeah, a big, full game. I'm not a tech demo or anything, but I wound up being kind of in the middle, leaning towards negative. I was really underwhelmed by it. And the thing I kept thinking of was when I first started doing VR, when I was just tech demos and stuff and the old dev kits and stuff. I remembered when dread Halls was just a demo. I was amazed by that because it was one of the first VR things I did. It's like, oh, I can look up and see the scene, like I can look down, I can put my face up to the wall and peer around corners and see creepy things. And it was amazing because I've never done anything like that, right, But now that the novelty has worn off and I've done enough VR things and everything, I just kind of found myself playing by using the analog sticks. You can move, you can turn at the right stick, look, look up and down, move with the left stick. And I noticed I wasn't even like naturally just kind of doing that stuff because I've seen it for Yeah, so it just felt like I was playing a first person Resident Evil with controller with like a screen close to my face. But tell me what a first person Resident Evil is? Is it the same type of combat? Is it herbs, typewriter ribbons? Like like in this thing, there was no combat, So this is very much a tease or this thing is not going to be That doesn't sound like a resid eval game at all. That sounds like you first person walking around a haunted house. And then thank you for playing. It was Resident Evil in the way that like, oh, here's a fuse box on the wall, Like I can't hit the switch because there's no power and there's one missing fuse. But if I go pull this thing in the fireplace and grab a fuse and put it there, then I can, Like it's that type of puzzle solve. How do they tell you, like what you can interact with? Is there any pops up on the screen so you can walk up in the microve was an X and you open it and there's like a dead burden there. Yeah. Yeah, I didn't really get scared at any point. It's not like it's also really hard to like when you're playing something like in VR on a show floor and you've got three different bands playing all over it's it's it's definitely get the headphones on. It's not complete. Yeah yeah, but yeah, no combat or anything like. It was more atmospherics to then, like you know, a buch of stuff jumping out of closets and stuff, like what did you actually see? Like what what? What kind of menace did they present in that demo? I went into a house in the middle of the woods, kind of a derelict, old abandoned house. There's the typical like, oh, here's this old food with maggots in and like that's in every Resident Nable game. Walked around for a while found a video tape, put the video tape in the VCR, and then it's like, oh, here's this documentary of you know, we're finding this old and haunted house or whatever, and then just the Wester Report, all right, yeah, and then it becomes playable like this old video. So you're walking around and it's like this crew that's like filming this show or whatever. One guy goes missing, so you're still looking at the TV and playing at third person and it's you're in it and you're like the new cameraman for the show. And that's how you know that the fireplace has the hidden things, because the host is like, oh, what is this thing? And he pulls it in. A secret door opens and then there's a big like at the end, the the guy that was with the crew and went missing, like he turns around his bloody eyes, and then the guy punches you, and it's and then cut. Yeah, it's so that it was Bomby. There was a guy with a beard that looked dirty and he walked past the doorway before he punched you. I don't know. To me, yeah, I don't know if he was a zombie or not. Actually really no, he shaved no, it's that's the worst thing. I don't know. I sat in on that and I had a different experience. So there are multiple paths. I guess it's like three different ending war So they kind of walked me through getting h towards another one. But so apparently you can find like a hatchet in there, I'm told, and I'm also sure that there's going to be some kind of combat. Can you run with the hatchet? I don't probably, Okay, I hope so good. And also, like on the printed instructions, you know there was an attack button. I don't think that it actually did anything in game. I don't know if it's going to be a shooter. I don't know if it's gonna be like a melee stuff. But for the most part, like I just I got that PT vibe with a little bit of like puzzle solving. Yeah, they just seemed like they were kind of chasing after the popularity of PTol. It was much weaker, I think, because you know, pt was a teaser in its own right, but it had there's more going on there, and I thought there was more genuinely creepy things happening in PT uh with you, that's the thing it was constantly fucking with you. Yeah, we're with the fucking with you feels cheap in this. It's like, oh, I'm going around a corner and a mannequin fell down, like you know what. PT felt a little more psychological. Well yeah, I don't know. I thought that stuff in PT was kind of cheap jump scares too. Well, I think it did it much better. Yeah. Yeah, so it's I don't know, it's not even gonna be in the final game that this teaser. So this is just a prologue thing. So it's hard to say without seeing, like this is gonna be a full length, you know, Resident Evil game. This could totally change by the time. Yeah, so we don't even really know anything about story or playing as these characters and Umbrella, And there's no mention if any characters they say, even attached to those games. I mean, it's a number of sequels, so one would expect even if this content isn't gonna be in the final game though, like they did say, this is representative of what that game is. Yeah, yeah, it's gonna be a first person game where you're walking around. It's weird though, because if that's the case, that January release date doesn't seem terribly like, yeah, they's got to be like coming down the home stretch on that thing, Like yeah, but I mean that's a different product, Like this is just a teaser. Who knows how far you know they were with the other one. Yeah, and you know last year they showed that Kitchen demo, which was you know, some earlier test version of this. They've been working on this for a while, ry and this is the demo that they released done yea, it stills the same demo. Yeah, yeah, did you see it in two D or just just the VR? I just saw it in VR. But they said if you get the game, like at any point, like let's see, you're playing for a couple of hours in VR and you're, kay, I want to break or you know, my girlfriend's watching or something, I can take it off and it goes on the TV. You know, kind of like almost game pad type thing, right right, right, So I'm actually fascinated by this thing. Like another thing PC you had going for it was that it looked incredible, you know. Yeah, And well that's so that's what I was gonna say, Like I don't want to descend into like boring graphics, chat here, but like this is the first like big Triple A game where they're saying, hey, it's playable either way, right, but you have to make so many sacrifices to make it run smoothly in VR. That like, what does that then do to the two D game? Like do they have a way better graphics mode for if you're not using VR. I ran into Annie mcmaron he had played both ways and he actually said it looked way better in VR. Huh huh, that's yeah. I don't I don't know what that is. Yeah, and VR, I was Beard was really weird. It was very like flickery. Did you notice that too, Jason, Yeah, a little bit. It was really weird. That's weird, just shine and flicker and like, I don't know, I think, yeah, anything when you got up. Maybe it's just a bunch of weird flicker Beard zombies or something. Probably that was That was the scariest thing that I saw. All Right, I'll say that I am way more flicker. I'm way more intrigued in what they're doing with this than if they had just gone down the route they were going with six and just made it more just hey action movie with you know, Kennedy or whatever I'm saying. That's yeah. So I mean I'm intrigued. I will I will play that full game when it comes out, but kind of disappointed by what I saw, like not just not the strongest first impression for whatever that knows, but also I don't know how indicative, Like it's a full game that's going to come out, and it might be different than well you would hope it would be indicative. I mean, if you're making that your your your demo, that's supposed to be your target, but I mean it's not exactly the content that's going to be in the game. You're trying to present what your vision of that game is going to be. And if that's if that's not hitting, you're right, like obviously there's time for them to make adjustments, but like it's not encouraging. But you have to imagine, you know, the final game will have guns and things like that. So well, I don't know, that's the thing. I'm not certain that's that's necessarily true. It's not guaranteed, but I would I would guess you could, like like you can pull up an inventory with Triangle and you know there's this you know a bunch of lots and stuff that you can put stuff in, and I bet you're going to get grenades and guns and just just herbs, just r grenade stuff. Seems weird to me for some reason, like good, oh well, I mean no, because you won't use a move controller, so you won't actually yeah, but you know we'll see. Yeah yeah, I don't know, kind of kind of bummed about it, but also, you know, notsly turned off the idea of playing the full one when it comes out. I don't want to say I'm bombed. I'm just I have more questions, I guess. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Hey, the big news. I walked by the two K booth and you know they're painting the roster reveals for the Yeah, John is in the game. Yes, yes, fuck yes, that guy Mander. I'm sorry. Finally, oh Goldberg meets John Cena. Finally we haven't seen that since it or two K fourteen. It's man Mander. No, it's not for years, but he's a pre order bonus because they always bring like legends like its Ultimate Warrior and Slinging and like older guys. Yeah, yeah, so yeah, Vinnie and I walked around the show floor uh, and got a good look at kind of just took the lay of the land and put up some videos on our Instagram page, which is giant bomb dot com. We have an Instagram. Oh yeah, alright with dot spelled out. Look at it. Just type it into the Yeah, it's it's weird out there, you guys. Yeah, it's time you guys. Around the periphery of the show everywhere Naught America. No, that was amazing on the outskirts, all this experimental tech and all this stuff and people like booths with no one there and just these companies trying their hardest. Yeah. And then directly across from the Ace Bananas booth, which looks like a charming little game with monkeys flying planes or something, okay, and no one's checking that out, there's the Naughty America booth, and at times it looked like there were over a hundred people in line. I checked out a couple of times, walked over there because it's amazing to see all these booths with people just trying their hardest and no one's visiting, and then a hundred people with persona capes like waiting a line just put on there. Sam's on gearbr and just watch it. Just take sure you have just painted back several times. Look at the line. But man, my favorite earlier when you came back talking about it was your description of the people's demeanor who were getting the demos. You know, it's very very matter of facts, just like what are those events and impressive technology, like yeah, they're probably they probably do other things when they're watching porn usually and they had to just stand there like, oh yes, very impressive, like the like household chores like you know, they're just they're distracted doing other things that yeah, yeah, multitasking. Yeah yeah, yeah, no, I think I definitely have that demeanors likes. That's impressive, all right, right, No, that's looks very promising. Yeah no, that's on third of the elbow. That's really great stuff. And yeah, there was just a lot of weird stuff. So there's this into the pixel Art exhibit, which has been at E three for years and years. There's awesome stuff like they had this year that I saw that they had some stuff some years pasted up there as well, and they had like the box art for for SVC Chaos up there. That's great. Anyway, that was in the concourse hall kind of out separate from all this other stuff. Now it's like it's on the show floor because they had space for it. Yeah. Wow, there's a lot of stuff. There's a lot of empty space on the show floor. It's it really shows. It's really shows. Yeah. So like the hall with Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony, like that feels mostly the same. There's some some spaces there there weren't before, but that mostly feels like the same deal. But even there, the walkways are wider, like definitely that other hall man holy hell yeah yeah, yeah, definitely kind of strange out there. And then there's the whole E three Live over the Public thing, which we there's some video that we shot that I think we're gonna we're gonna put up. It might take a little time to get that up, but it was an experience. It was an experience. They tried to physically wrangled me and bring me inside as I was just walking by. They needed try and pull in pretty much that game. Do you like retro games? We got cool retro game. The retro game you mean the Doritos thing. Yeah, the Doritos. Oh that's a different thing that's right next to you. Were like, hey, do you like arconoid. Yeah, I would have instead of a little paddle, it was like curled up dorito chip. Fuck no any like Space Invaders, God, yeah who does? Instead of a ship, you're a little dorito chip ship that works. There would go there to merow that works. Okay, let's come up top. I like chips. They have those. They got walking tacos, leave me, they have a lot of those. They got walkie talk they got walking top. Walkie talk is to kind of tell you the like one, this is where things are at. Yeah, and you know the show is definitely changing. Yeah, it was definitely changing, and we'll see how it goes from from here on out. But this is this feels like the first step and then trying to figure it out. Uh. And you know they'll get there probably, but it's just seems really crazy. They just need more VR porn, I guess. Yeah, every other they just turned this to dash and just make it a porn show. It's so interesting doing the outskirts, like now that you know, my first one was ten years ago and two thousand and six, the wei was the big thing, right, and so for those first couple of years I went, all the outskirts were just all these little companies trying to do like we got a tennis ragging attachment. Yeah, oh, we got this thing here, or like we made our own motion thing with like a shitty motion controller, right, and that was everything in like Kenscha hall around the outskirts or whatever. And now it's it's that but with weird like VR, like weird hatchments and accessories love you wear sensors and yeah, it's totally that. Yeah, well you know it. Now it's on the main floor because siding time. Yeah, and there is no kinch of hall and they don't need one because there's plenty of room on the exist and the concourse hall not. Yeah, we'll see, we'll see, but you know, interesting to kind of watch the show change before our very eyes. Vinny said he heard his phone ring when he was actually on the floor, right, Yeah, No, I was walking around with it shooting those Instagram videos and we were just having normal volume conversations as we were walking and going, hey, what's that I called? I called Vinny when we were both in the middle of the Sony booth yesterday, and not only did we both get enough reception to make and receive a phone call, but he could hear it ring. He picked it up and we talked. Yeah, so obviously bestI three ever, you know, not bad. Something is like like the quality of the show is is not attached to the quality of the software being sown shown at the show. I feel like there's a lot of really interesting games being announced and shown and all this other stuff. Especially wander around that Sony or that Microsoft. But like there's a good ver got tons of games there are. There are a lot of games, like I feel like coming out of the show, like the games seem strong, Like there's a lot of stuff, Like we're at that point where the platforms have matured and we're seeing cool stuff and all that. But man, the show itself just seems strange. Uh, it's a building year, strange days. So it's a transition year. It's about to be right, right, who knows? Who knows what the show looks like next year? Yeah, definitely that and that that's the talk of the show and everyone you talk to every show, how's your show going? Like? Hours going fine? Like I was here, I was like, I don't know, I'm in this booth and I don't know why we're here, Like okay, weird, Yeah, we're all leaving Wednesday. Yeah, yeah, there are definitely the people that are bugging out, like other than the odd Kiosk at at the platform holders like EA is done with the three now as of yes, as of last night. Well so yeah, but now I know they have time showing stuff in Microsoft booth. Then that's what I mean. There are a few Kiosks, but like their official presence is kind of over. Yeah, yeah, it's it's interesting. But yeah, so games before we wrap it up here, think I would see anything else? I think I'm sold on King of Fighters now like that. Yeah, yeah, that, I got some hands on sign with that. Finally, it plays really Fighting of Fighters and and it's using three D models kind of like that right four And I missed the sprites for sure, but it actually pretty plays pretty well, So I think I'm on board that good. All right, Yeah, I want to super skeptical. I want to check that out as well. Tomorrow I'm gonna get my hands on tech and yeah, I see what's up that. Uh it looks like they've got like an m K style story mode and that thing that's awesome. Seems neat got techn would be the right sprites for that yeah, I mean, if not, like that's the first one. You just want, like, you know, ten hours of like Paul Phoenix riding a motorcycle and punching fucking bears, you know, the best like ending movies of any fighting game series. Agree. Agree, we're talking about we're talking about getting a rowdy band tomorrow together to go crew a ship. Sounds that sounds really fun. Yeah. Yeah, they've got they've got like four versus four setups over there. I want to do right, and I'm gonna I'm gonna get my hands on some Oculus touch stuff, which I have not used in a game yet. So they're showing in some games with that stuff. Uh, and I'm seeing some other stuff tomorrow that eludes me in the brain at this moment. Either you're gonna go see God either on the dog I'm not joking. No, you can. You can come and you can take the God Eater portion of the appointment and I'll just play tech. And you don't like fighting games anyway, I know you see you can play little tech and teching kids. Yeah yeah, little teching, Yeah, little play that little teching that's Fighter kids. Yeah. Yeah, nothing wrong with VF kids, nothing at all. That's great, It's totally okay. All right, well I'm kay kids all right, children fighting children, the babalities grew up. I call kid thunder. Yeah. Oh man, all right, Well that's gonna wrap it up for the editor check in portion of our show. We are going to take a break and we'll be back. Uh, we're back in a little while here. We're gonna yeah, when our first guest will arrive and we will kick things on off. Stay tuned. We'll be back half and let's say, yesh, half an hour or something like that. Yeah, somewhere around there. Well, we'll be back. Stick around. Welcome to Giant Bombs. After E three twenty sixteen coverage, we are on night two, which follows Day two. I think I'm Jeff Gersman, joined by Brad Shoemaker, and we're joined by Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox. Hey, everybody, how you doing doing all right? How you doing? I'm doing well? Thanks for I always enjoy coming on the show. You always got you guys, keep a lively dialogue. You're always straight to the point, a charitable way of putting it. No, you're professionals, you're very good at this. Well, no, I don't know about that, but you know, we try to which we try. It's great to have you back, you know, hot off the heels of sans Kudo. Yeah, no Kudos. He's got web browsers to handle. He's important now, Yeah, I know that's I just I wish Kudo was here so we could just try to like just listen, look we get demons equal made. Can we make that happen there fight night? That would be a nice attack back to matter ago. Yeah. Uh so, you know, I was gonna say a big show for you, but obviously every every year you've got big announcements to bring, but this this year felt a little different, you know, kind of just going back to some of the stuff from the Spring showcase when you started talking a little bit about making some moves around the Xbox kind of brand or platform of services and all that sort of stuff. It feels like this was the press commence where you really kind of say like, Okay, now we're gonna lay out the roadmap for how this stuff's going to start to happen. Yeah, you know, it's it's been a long kind of journey actually started like in January of fifteen when we started talking about direct x on both console, Picks twelve on console and Win ten, then bring in Xbox Live to both console and Win ten, talking about cross play like with the I I, DARB guys and other people, Charla, bringing the Idea Xbox program to both Windows and Xbox, and starting to ship more of our first party games on both Windows and console Xbox. This was a nice moment for us, the briefing. You know, this leadership team, since we've been in place, we've been kind of this is the first time we've introduced hardware. Yeah, and it was it was proud. I was proud to be on stage representing the great work that the teams have been doing and talking about Xbox one S and Project Scorpio and all the great games we had. Yeah. So it's, uh, you know, the announcement seems pretty clear at the time. It sounds like, you know, after the fact that you know, there's been a little bit of information kind of swirling around about the capabilities of the different boxes. Yeah, we should talk about that. You're trying to clarify some stuff. So I just it seems like the I guess it was. Rod Ferguson confirmed a Polygon that the Xbox one S would actually be slightly more powerful than a base level Xbox One. Yeah, that by design. Well, so what happens when even on the original Xbox One that we shipped over the life of it, we will upgrade different components in the box because it's like availability or the manufacturers of the drives or something. We'll just that will give us a new model, and we'll put it in cheaper to build bandwidth on things on any of the generations of our console can go up and down a little bit. I'll say Xbox one S was designed let me put HDR kind of over here. Yeah, but Xbox one S was designed to run your Xbox One games the same way your original Xbox does. Yeah. I think what Rod was talking about specific to Gears, there's some things that happen that actually make his gears run. The Gears build, like right now, run a little better on Xbox one S than on Xbox One. I don't even like, we're not done with the game run it lands. The thing I want to make clear to people is they shouldn't buy an Xbox one S thinking it's going to run Xbox One games faster, because we didn't design it to do that. It is an Xbox one s there are marginal differences in all the hard but it's an Xbox One, and it's sorry, it's Xbox One. That's how it runs the games. Now we have HDR, so it will support high dynamic range for one K games if I want to call him Xbox one games, and you'll get that in Gears, you'll get that in Scale Bound, you'll get that in Forts the Horizon, So it actually does run the games from that perspective a little better. If you don't have an HDR TV, you obviously won't see that. But I don't Honestly, I don't want anybody thinking the Xbox One as some kind of performance improvement over the Xbox One, because it really wasn't designed to do that. Okay, but Projects Scorpio is that's when we get into Tara flops. That's when we get into going over the top and saying, let's put out the most powerful console on the block. Yeah, yeah, you know, we, as I've shared in different places, we've been doing more work on PC and we've been we recently shipped Forts Motorsport Apex six APEX on PC running at four K, and we've been looking at what it takes to run these games at four K on PC, and we wanted to bring that capability to console. And as we were looking at the divice capability you need, it was really six terra flops that we had to go hit in order to hit real high resolution, high fidelity V high fidelity four K experiences. I'll get to be our second and so that we designed to spack around six terra flops. We looked at what we could get done this year, whether we could actually hit that spec with a hardware refresh this year. We couldn't. So instead of putting out something less than six terra flops this year, because four K, I think really is the next step between the HD that we have now and yeah, those those TVs are not much more expensive. It's exactly any other ten TV. Yeah, so we designed around six terra flops. Was interesting. As we were doing that, we started talking to people like Todd Howard who saw on our in our video around the announced of Scorpio, around VR and really what they want they needed to bring the console like experience you get in a game like Fallout to VR and six Terra flops. We made some slight changes in terms of memory band with and stuff to make sure that we were also a great platform for high fidelity R experiences that a console player would expect. So, and I want to clarify one thing because this is something I said yesterday around if you don't have a four KTV, what do you do with Scorpio? To me, this is really around our motivation. Our motivation with Project Scorpio was with four K coming as you say, you see the TV's out there, we design this console for that. And if you've got a one K TV, and if you already have an Xbox One, I would That's why I said don't go buy an Xbox One as thinking your games are going to play better. It's not for if you like the design or you want the four K streaming, great, HDR great, But I'm not trying to upgrade you there. If you Scorpio is more powerful than the original Xbox four and a half a half times and the six Tara flops actually will obviously impact the games in the way they play. Upcoming games. Isn't necessarily like you know, you're not gonna like suddenly get better performance out of any disk you put in the system. You know, it's a it's a great, A great question. If you look at a game like Halo five, Halo five implement something called dynamic scaling, so as scenes get more complex in order to maintain sixty frames per second, they will actually change the resolution that you're running in. And they're not the only game that does this, So then if you run that game on Project Scorpio, you're actually going to be at the max frame rate of that game more often. And now again I'm not going to put that as a top selling feature of Scorpio because it's not all games use dynamic scaling. I'm trying to be transparent with people about where we are in the design of Project Scorpio and what it was designed for. It was designed in order to enable these high fidelity four K experiences, So some of the existing games will actually run a little better for using dynamic scaling. But I wouldn't buy Scorpio to run your existing library get a little bit more performance on a Halo five is probably not No, I wouldn't suggest somebody does that. And then I got the question, well, if you have a HDTV and you don't have a four K TV, should you go buy Project Scorpio, And I guess some people will do that, and obviously Scorpio is going to be running the six teraflop version of a game, and that version of a game, even when down sampled HD will look different than the game running at ten ADP. But I still think of the complete Scorpio experience is somebody that has a four KTV with Scorpio plugged into it. To take Scorpio and then plug it into an HDTV to me feels like you're taking a four K frame buffer and downresing it to show it on your TV, and the box will have downsampling like you know, it will obviously show up on an HDTV. But the real design point for us, the motivation behind Scorpio was four K gaming six terra flops. Some developers will take advantage of that six terra flops in different ways, but that was really the design point for Project Scorpio, and the reaction of the dev community and frankly the fans here at the at E three has been fantastic. That's actually something that I was curious about when you know, you talk about four K being the emphasis of that thing, but will there be any mandate coming out of Microsoft for developers saying like you guys should really focus on four K here or is it like, is it car blaunch for them to pursue that If they want to just have a one K frame buffer and then you know, up res to four K take advantage of power in different way. We will will absolutely be open to that. I mean, we're going to talk more specifics of a project Scorpio, so we'll get into more of the details. But you know, I don't. I think creative freedom and how you want to use the power of the box is something that I always support. Man came from first party, as you guys know, So putting the right tools in the hands of the creators, the best creators is our job as the platform. One thing though, that we should make sure everybody understands every game that comes out in the Xbox One family will run on the original Xbox, Xbox One S and Scorpio. So we have had some questions, are there going to be Scorpio exclusive games? No, the line of games you're going to get to play is the same regardless of which one of the Xbox One. It's not two skews. It's not you know, two separate downloads, is it is. It's kind of just the same package. We'll just run on everything. Yeah, and again we'll go through more details on this stuff as we get further along. But yeah, this is not you're you're not buying a different game. In fact, you know, if you think about what we announced on stage a D three relative to Windows and Xbox with cross play and cross by Xbox playing anywhere, we basically announced you buy the game one time, you're able to play it on your Windows ten, PC or your Xbox. And because I really think about building your library of Xbox games and be able to play them wherever you are, it's kind of a core tenant that we've had inside the organizations what drove us to do backward compatibility last year. You should be able to play your games on the devices that will play them when you sit down, you log in, you get access to your library, download and play, and we'll think about Xbox one family exactly the same way. Yeah. So I guess, like you know, then you kind of have that next pillar or that that next tier up I guess, or alongside Scorpio where it is the literally the PC and you know this this is where the approach gets even I guess maybe complicated, not the word. I mean, you're you're offering a lot of options for people. As someone who's already built a pretty substantial PC. Yeah, I get to want where I'm like, okay, great, Like it's great to know that I can play those games at you know, these resolutions on this monitor, you know, like really get the performance out of it. Yeah, that's you know, you're the kind of customer that when we looked at our and we got a lot of feedback from our console customers, a lot of them also have good Windows gaming rigs. And you end up with this weird decision where okay, let me think of you know, of a recent game. I'll take Battlefield, right, because Battlefield come out on PC. It does well on PC. So you end up making this decision of okay, where are all my friends going to play? Right? Are they going to play over here on consoles? So then I'll go buy my whether it's a PlayStation version or an Xbox version, or am I going to buy the version from Steam because all my friends are in this case Origin because all my friends are going to play on the PC. And I just think it's this weird fork in the hey, let me guess where my friends are going to go play. Now, we're not dictating Xbox playing any where for third party games. I don't have the power to do that, but we want to lead with our first party and say win a game like Halo Wars comes out, or a game like Gears comes out, you're gonna have to pick on whether your Windows friends are going to buy it or your console friends are gonna just buy the game and know that you can play. And if you're sitting in front of your monster PC rig and you want to run with unbound frame rate and kind of go if you happen to be me sitting in my butt in front of the couch with the controller in my hand, I want to play on the console. I'll do that and really make it about you and your choice on where you want to play and the games that you want to play, and less about this kind of decision on well, I bought it over here, so I can't play over there, right. So that led to there was a little bit some of the details around that with the Gears of War four seemed that maybe some of that kind of cross play was limited to certain modes. It sounded like that it was just kind of a listing off the cooperative modes. Yeah, and not necessarily. I mean, I get mouse and keyboard. That's a very different thing. Yeah. So is that something where would a developer be able to I guess it is the developer making those decisions themselves or is that okay? Yeah? So I you can only influence mister Rod Ferguson so much. But you know, as somebody plays a lot of games and somebody's been involved in game creation for quite a while, I've said, in co op modes, the fact that your rotation speed might be faster than I mean, like, who really cares? You know, we're playing together, we're all working together, and I might even say my bias, my bias would be even in kind of casual competitive modes. If we just want to play together, just let us play together, right, But I mean game schedules and you know, the design ideas of the creators, those things, to me are the most important. So I want to put the tools in place with Xbox Live so that if a creator says, find keyboard, amuse controller, you guys just go and play and you can Rocket League get as much as you guys want, you know, or if they if they want to have real strict PvP competitive modes where it's either keyboard versus keyboard or controller versus controller. Great, you guys go create those oppers and and go I want to put the tools in the hands of the creators and they'll make the decision. And it seems like in that case, you know, like even in a case like Gears four, so maybe they're not going to make this decision. It could be the case where like if you're using a controller on the PC and then you can get into those that's right. And I think, you know, as we work through this, when we get feedback from customers on what they want to see, we're going to be responsive to that. We're at the beginning of a lot of things, uh in trying to continue with our vision of your choice somewhere you want to play, who you want to play with some of the I like that we can even have the discussion as somebody who ships Shadow Run and we're kind of working through all of those balance issues. You know, this has been the plan a six years were almost there. Every game must have a healing tree. The healing tree the better features of No. Honestly, Shadow un should have been on RPG and should have not been a shooter, but the yeah catter run us an rpt ip. But uh, but you know, we're gonna work. We're gonna learn as we learned by doing. We learned a lot, frankly from the Rocket League team as we were just working on cross network play right, and they came to us and said, hey, for these kind of games that do well on a lot of platforms but aren't selling twenty million units on each platforms, having these segmented shards of players doesn't make it great for matchmaking. So they came and asked us about cross cross network play. And I wasn't in the role when some decisions were made around not wanting this as a policy and Xbox Live, but I looked at it and as a game creator, it made complete sense to me that we should be able to link the networks. Absolutely so, and the Valve guys, who we know really well, have been very supportive that. It's great to see that and I hope it continues. Yeah. So, when when I think about, you know, the platform holder, when I think about you know, the Nintendo and so many of the PlayStation and Microsoft with the Xbox, you tend to think about it in terms of you know, ball base and selling boxes and putting out the big first party games to move the units, and and building good three for first party games. Actually I agree. But now with the messaging being like, hey, you're gonna be able to play a lot of these games on the PC. Yeah, uh, like that just seems like such a fundamental shift. I mean, not not only I mean a lot of things are changing, right. I mean, you know, Sony's obviously working on what it's working on. Yeah, and you know we're we're invited me over. I played the PSVR games to day with them. Yeah, but you know they have their kind of upgraded hardware. Yeah, as long as you know as well as yeah, yeah, yeah, it's just such a just rolls around the time. I feel. I feel like this, yeah, this is three is like battle of the project code names, you know, like Scorpio versus Neo Scorpio sounds like dude with stubble. I patch like, it's just a great it's it's it's a good code name. It's great. I got that right. Everything else, but I guess, you know, it just it really feels like everything is kind of on the table again with regards to that. You know, it's like we're not waiting for the full cycle to complete, to roll out new hardware that is not compatible with the old hardware and all this other stuff like, so what does your role then become in a world where maybe just selling boxes physical xboxes isn't as important anymore. Yeah, I love that. I mean this listening to you go through the thought process because it's the same thought press since we've been going through. You know, we've when we talk about the health of the Xbox business. Right now, we talk about this thing called monthly active users, And I know, I get a lot of snark back that I'm just trying to dodge an install based number versus install based number with PlayStation four. You know, I don't think anybody, anybody with a calculator can kind of figure out they've sold more consoles than we have. But when I think about the health of our business, it's how many people are playing games, connecting buying games. Obviously from a business standpoint, you and I'll get the Twitter comments of thanks for putting all your games on PC. Now I don't have to buy one of your Xbox ones. Yeah, and they think that's coming off as snide, but yes, yes, and I'm I'm kind of more of the sentiment, you know, thanks for playing our games. And I think the experience of playing on a console there's some uniqueness in that in terms of I hit a button, nice little sound blaze, it comes up, it boots into a UI that's meant to be controlled with a controller. It's usually on my television ten feet away from me or so, and that's a different experience, not better or worse than playing on a PC. It's just a different experience. And as Microsoft, obviously with we care a ton about Windows and gaming on Windows is something that my team is very focused on now. So I looked at the health of both of these instead. If I, if we get into this world, where as an Xbox business we look at people playing on PC is somehow detrimental to our Xbox business, will never do a good job. I lived through that. It was called Games for Windows Lives, right, And the problem with Games for Windows Live is the Xbox team looked at those users and it was always how can we get them to buy an Xbox? And I don't want to be about that. So if I then put out, hey, how are we doing on a unit basis versus PlayStation four. I'm actually reinforcing something that isn't how we're driving the business at a fundamental level, a fundamental level, this is about building the best games we can, like Quantum Break and Billy there was a fun TV show with some video game in the middle of We're gonna throw down right here, We're gonna throw down now, building the best games we can. And I loved our lineup this year. We had four big games that are coming with with obviously Forts and Gears and Dead Rising, and in our indie lineup is very strong. Record is coming as well. We've got great lineup next year. Continuing to build out our features on Xbox Live. I'm Mike did a nice job talking about clubs and arena and looking for group and features that we're adding as we continue at data centers, getting people together that might not might not just cursing each other into a microphone like like minded people. And it's a little bit of a sideways but I want to take a second on that one because I've said this before. I'm a father of two daughters, and you know, I look, I think about Friday night. Do I my daughters like to play games? Do I really want to put them on Xbox Live. And as we thought about gaming for everybody, creating environment where everybody feels that they have the gaming experience, they want clubs with something and looking for group kind of the intersection of these two things. You know, I'm old dads that go to bed at ten. That's my club. So you know, if you want to play games till midnight, that's not the club I'm in. And but I want to people to be able to create communities on Xbox Live. And it doesn't have to be restrictive communities. It could be people in LA that like to play Destiny, right, it could be it could be game based things. But this idea that I can create a fear on Xbox Live of people that I'm comfortable playing with, that I get to choose who I want to play with, and I can use that as my matchmaking group. To us as the platform holder, that was an important thing for us to go do and I hope it takes off. Yeah, I think that's that's definitely a problem worth solving. I'm a very foul mouthed person, but I haven't noticed that's nothing. It's you know, it's early in the night. We give it a little bit. You know, we'll see how it goes. But even I have taken to a point where I'm just like, I just don't wear a microphone playing any game anymore. Yeah, you know, I installed even just I installed Overwatching on the PC immediately looked for like ways to disable all communications. It's like, I just don't want to hear from people I know. Uh, And it's sad. You know, you think about gaming is like this social thing, and now it's it's only like only if you're playing with friends, you know in real life? Can you can you have that voice chat? Because that is what we're trying to solve, right You're either people I really know or everyone. And we said, hey, can we create this cohort that somehow is selected that at actually has a governance model so you can have you know, private clubs where you actually have to get in people as moderators can move you out of the club if you're if you're breaking rules with persistent message boards and stuff, so you actually can know what's going on in the club. And I'm not gonna say it's going to be perfect, but I as it comes out, but we're gonna learn. And I like that we're doing that, but anyway, the games on top of the service with the hardware, and if that hardware where people are running, those happens to be a great Windows PC absolutely want to embrace that, and so it's important that we bring our first party games to Windows then and Xbox. Playing anywhere felt like a good feature for the people who have a console and a PC. If you only have a PC and you never have a console, you know, play anywhere. We'll give you a bigger base of people to play with on most games. But it's obviously not the value of I can also play on a console. But getting back to the original point of that's what's motivating us is to get many a lot of people together playing games. And it's not just can I outsell Sean and Andy's console, because you know, they're doing a really good job with their business. And as a member of the game industry, I'm proud of the success that all of us are having right now. I mean, it's been it's been neat to see, you know. I feel like at the start of this generation, the questions were like do people want consoles? You're absolutely right, you know, and to see like, oh wait, no, people totally want consoles. I say that over and over five years ago, when I was here and I was running First Party, it was aren't everybody isn't everybody just playing games on your phone? What are these kind of weird devices that I plug in this up? Yeah, exactly. And now Sony's killing it with the PlayStation four. We're selling a lot more Xbox ones and we now than we were three sixties at this point in the generation, and Nintendo is getting ready to come out with an x and I'm incredibly excited to see what they're going to do. So, you know, it just feels like a really good, healthy time for the industry. Competition is good. It kind of keeps all of us driving doing forward things like neo things like Scorpio. I think this is all us trying to innovate and find ways of of making that gaming experience better. And that just feels like it's a good thing. Yeah, And it seems like, you knowtion to those options. You know, for players, it seems like it gives you some pretty good options. Should we ever get to a point where people maybe decide like, maybe consoles aren't really the thing anymore. You've you're on the PC yeah, I'm you're out there doing other things. I'm very committed to the console space. I'll say not that it's about my personal taste. I play most of my time on this dang Destiny game on Xbox, and uh, you know, I I love the experience on the television and what it is, and I think it's going to be healthy for a long time. But you're right, like this lets the customer choose if they want to if they want to take a PC and plug it into their television and have it act like a console. Like Origin does a really nice job making a lot of the PC's that are the kind of that form factor that I want in my family. It's one of the reasons we added Bluetooth to our new control right because we said, hey, and it's that's the one that sold with the Xbox One. S is the and the customization line that we're we've with Design Labs. These are all bluetoo that combined to your PC or or using the Xbox wireless so you can use in the same control back and forth. Do you foresee an updated Elite controller putting Bluetooth in there. We've had a lot of success with Elite and that's that's what I've got hooked up to my PC right now. Yeah, I think absolutely. I think we're long on the elite line of controllers. We don't have anything to talk about now. It's I'm really happy with the quality and the response that we've received from the one that's in market. But it's something having a top controller, something that for the premium of the people who play a lot of games and want the absolute best. That's something I think we should always have in our line. Yeah, you're talking about VR, yeah, uh, in vague term. In vague terms, we had Palmer on last night. Oh how do you do? Good? Yeah? Use one on UBI stage? Yeah yeah, killing people, just going nuts Eagle flight and killing people. Yeah, I missed it. I seen uh. And I just you know, you guys have obviously put the Xbox one controller in the box with the rifts. You've got a partnership there, Microsoft not necessarily in the VR headset business. Do you think that am I gonna be able to plug my Rift into a Scorpio? So, as I said when we were going through the design of Scorpio, from a technical standpoint, obviously the advent of you, I think PC is the best place for br right now. I've said that over and over. I think PC offers the ability to and you see it, plug a device into this high compute powered machine. I can get my own compiler. I can hand you a thumb drive with the game like. It's all of these things that really are such a great enabler for the innovation that we've always seen in the PC games and non especially early days where it literally is like, hey, I just coded this. Try this just make you sick? Yes, yeah, Because we're so early, right, it's it's so early in the VR space. And if I've you know, I've said I think it's too early to try to verticalize in a closed ecosystem VR, and I know that seems like a shot. I'm just like, as somebody who's who's who's been in this industry for a wild watch where we are with VR. I think VR has a strong history in front of It's not three D TV, It's nothing that's going to go away. I think it has a real place. What the actual experiences will be that make VR something that you know, for everyone. I don't think we know yet. That's not a criticism, we just don't know yet. I don't think it's going to be a literal translation of games I play on a two D screen into a three D world. I think, you know, just like TV early on was us filming a play, and it turns out TV is not filming a play, it's something different. And I think we'll learn the same thing about VR. And I love the PC space because the innovation is just so strong. We were in Taipei a couple of weeks ago at Computext and you know, we must have seen forty different headmounted displays and development for hardware from hardware manufacturers. Yeah, and we we introduced the notion of Windows Holographic that we built for hollow Lens is now in Windows. So any of those hardware manufacturers use that. Yeah, So they don't have to go write their own API. You just and it's just built in. There's nothing that we do. Just go because we love the innovation that we want to see in software and hardware. Frankly, I think both. So when we design Scorpio, I'm watching what's happening on Windows. We're talking to Oculus, We're talking a Valve all the time about what's going on in HTC. All these guys in the computext. We don't have anything to say right now about what's going to happen with VR on Scorpio, but it was designed to be a high fidelity VR box. The six Terra flops is from talking to people like Todd about Fallout VR and what he needed. It seemed like a good console like spec for that level of functionality. And we'll have more to say. I feel like Fallout could use all the power it can get on any It's just exactly and uh and you know for these you talked about comfort level and stuff. We know that frame rates important there, sure, you know, and PCs just such a great spot for that. And the fact that our Xbox One line actually at its cores running on Windows ten definitely gives us some ability to watch what's going on in the PC space and at the right time lock on something that we think we'll be appropriate for console and Scorpio. And I think you'll hear more from us in the future about that. A lot of this stuff seems like a long time coming, I guess, but you know it was only that Spring showcase when you know, the other kind of talking about up and some of the existing limitations of games running on that platform. It sounds like yeah, but it sounds like that that that's uh. You know you you are working to address that stuff. We are, I think, you know, early with UWP there was some concern and there's still some concern. I talked to my friend mister Sweeney all the time. You know, there's still definitely concerned that UWP and our store or somehow linked in a way that is nefarious, and you know it's not. We showed it build the ability to basically double click on an appex on a desktop and have a UWP installed at a PC with no store interaction at all. We want to enable UWP on console. We showed how that's coming with apps and the ability to turn your Xbox into a dev kit just with a couple of clicks. But we're early and the feedback is great. Even us launching things on in our own Windows Store, they all haven't haven't gone swimmingly right. Some of them have gone well. FORTSA did well. Quantum wasn't our breast PC release. KI did well in PC. I'd say Gears Ultimate Edition was okay. We definitely learned there things like vcinc, you know, the g sinc free sync work that we're trying to do overlays, talking to the manufacturer, to the developers of overlays about how how things need to work, unbounded frame rate. These these are things you never ever think about with the console. This is we got this closed box that father we're good, but we're in on this. And it's funny. Rod bought me this T shirt says we're building PC games again. That's when you know you've been around for a while. That's right, Rod and I woryed together for quite a while. But I love it right, and it does the two ecosystems learn from one another. We've probably all been around when you know, Egghead was there and you'd go buy your PC games, and then when that whole retail segment went away, it was like, okay, the death of PC gaming. And these guys in Bellevue built this thing called Steam and kind of kept it going. And now, what's a triple A game that comes out that's not from a first party that doesn't ship on PC and doing quickly PC is incredibly healthy. Yeah, and I think making sure that console and PC for so many of these great franchises that we see the third party shipping and for us on first party are shipping on both platforms, making sure that there's as much overlap for the developers possible. Because the idea that I finished my console game and I throw it over to somebody else to port it to PC, especially since so many of these games are service based, just really create. Now I've got these two code bases that don't really meet anywhere, and supporting both of them, patches are out of sync, and look, it's just we want to go and tackle that problem and try to make development of both PC and console games a little better. So how I mean, you know, Microsoft seems like it's you know, really headed in this direction of you know, it's like it's a it's a services company. You know that there are a lot of different things, and Xbox with you know, kind of getting the brand out of the PC in a lot of different ways seems to tie into that a little bit. How married are you to owning those services? I mean, Steam is incredibly popular, would you ever foresee you know, you look at the way Ubi does it with having kind of a U Play launcher that launches out of Steam, which is clunky, but you understand like they want to they want to have some control over the experience and capture some some data along the way, and they run that on Xbox too, right, yeah, yeah, and you know EA obviously captures a lot of that stuff as well, and they're running their own platform. But you know, I kind of every time I talked to you a kind of asked those questions about, like, so, how how's Origin going? How are you still married to it? Anything about Steam? Because the thing we just hear from the audience over and over again is like, well, if it's not on Steam, it seems like Blizzards the one company that gets passed on that. That's right, because a riot does a little bit. Okay, yeah, you're right, you're right, you're right, right, gets a little yeah, I just mobus scare me, So try to keep right out of mind a little bit. A sub brendon he was in there today. How do you do you think you would ever look into putting games on Steam? It more about like, hey, let's let's put Steam in a deeper level into when the Windows ten store or something like that, Like would you ever think about like figuring out a way we sell games in Steam today? Right? I guess like what age of Empires or we launched in Steam. Yeah, you're so. I but with this kind of coming you know, hey, you know big first party Triple A, this the stuff that's going to be coming out. Do you do you think that that still makes sense? Definitely could? Yeah, I don't. You know. I look at Steam today, It's on an incredible growth trajectory. It's a massive force in gaming, positive force sometimes yeah, And you know, I think it'll be bigger a year from now than it is today, and five years later it'll still be bigger again, right. So, and I as the platform holder Windows, and you know, my role while we say it's head of Xbox, actually inside of Microsoft they think of me as the head of gaming, which you know. And so I look at Valve as an important is SV for us on Windows. They are such a critical part of gaming success on Windows. I don't think Valves hurt by not having our first party games in their store right now, right, I think they're doing incredibly well. And I think we're going to learn by doing of putting our games in our store. I want to build a store, There's no doubt about that. And Gabe and in Scott and Eric and I and we have talked about this and I think Gabe says it very well. There's gonna be areas where we cooperate and there's going to be areas that we compete, and it's the end result is better for gamers. So I definitely want to have inside of Windows a healthy store, and in order to exercise the issues that we've talked about in terms of some of our early launches, I think I have to put my first party stuff there, Like it's what first party? We adopted Xbox Live before anybody else on console. You know, we're there at launch of consoles doing things that third parties won't go do, So I think we need that probably, But I get the same sentiment from that you hear of, Hey, if you don't put it in Steam, it's not really a Windows game. Yeah, you know, And I don't like Steam has earned that. Valve has earned that with the way they've treated customers, and they've been there, and I understand the games for Windows Live two point zero meme and how hey, maybe we'll forget how to spell Windows again and we'll just try to trick everybody into buying an Xbox. Like, I get that perception of people. I will tell you as long as I'm in this job, I think about Windows and our work on Xbox as core to what we're trying to do. And I want to learn from putting our games in our store and the process of doing that, because I want to have a healthy store ecosystem. But we will ship games and Steam again, and I think the partnership between us. We had the team the leadership of Valve over before this show showed him Scorpio and said hey, here's what we're doing. I mean, they're they're a great partner. I know those guys incredibly well, and I think they're doing fine with without quantum breaking their store right now. But the and I don't know what the future holds completely, but I have no aversion saying there's definitely no religion to say we never ship anything in Steam again. But I do think we have to do some work on our own and learn from that. So with Scorpio, gosh, how many years would have been since launched the Xbox One once Scorpio finally has a four four four seventeen four. Right, Yeah, yeah, you're better at math. I mean, obviously it's kind of hard to see that far out at this point, but do you think that this is how consoles go from here, kind of stick to this architecture. It seems like everyone likes the architecture that they're on right now. Maybe it'll get replaced by something on the line, but you know, do you do you see this as kind of the norm that not leaving behind the previous generation of games and players and kind of saying like, hey, you know, like post Scorpio another four years down the line, maybe Yeah. I like the timing that you talk about, because I definitely get some people asking me in the press coming in and have we turned it into a cell phone and every year, every two years, you're gonna try to sell me a new console, And I'll definitely say that is not at our plan. Our plan is to find the natural inflection points and game technology that seemed to resonate with people. You mentioned four K, you see it on PC as well, right, that seems to be a common spect that people will pick. But there are games that even go beyond that now on the PC television seem to lock on four K. So we looked at that as a good point for us to design around with our six terra flops Scorpio. The next iteration, I don't know what that will be. You know, we talked to creators all the time. Patrick Suttling was also in our Scorpio video, like, Hey, what are you guys thinking? Is it eight k's one hundred and twenty hurts one hundred forty four, Like, what is the next thing? Yeah, but I don't We had no timeline for that. The for us right now, the focus is on four K and what we can do with Scorpio in terms of the compatibility. As a member of the Xbox leadership team at the launch of the original Xbox I've said this before, I really struggled with the lack of compatibility of three sixty games. Just at kind of a soulful level, I said, if we're gonna really go push this digital future with Xbox One, I don't understand how a customer is going to effectively trust us if we say, yeah, Xbox Live, Arcade, some of Arcade, all that stuff, all the digital games we bought on three sixty. Sorry, but here start again like that. It didn't. So one of the first decisions we made was obviously on three sixty back compatent. Could we get the code ninjas to make it work? And I'm really happy we have actually some good I think announces tomorrow that are coming on back, which would be great. I think it's tomorrow. But in terms of forward compatibility, that's the spirit of it. Now. I can't always predict future CPUGPU architecture and how challenging that will be. We're going three sixties of power PC chip, We're going to x eighty six on on Xbox one. We made that work. There was really nothing that said that could work, but it did. As long as we're staying in the same architecture. The compatibility is something that's core to me, and maybe it's my Win thirty two envy, right, the fact that you can go all the way back to you right, and maybe sometimes because of direct ax or something else, something's a little bit quirky but can make it work. You can doss box for that. You make a command line, but that's man. But you know that's uh. I think the sentiment in the Win thirty two world is when I buy a game, effectively it moves with me as I upgrade video cards and laptops or desktops and whatever I do. I like that. Now I will be explicit with people if we get to a point where something happens where that compatibility we struggle whether then you have to go to like a cloud solution or do you go to some kind of VM thing that runs I don't know, but that right now, that's what we talk about it as an Xbox one line, right because in that line, I want to make sure that line that your games, your games are with you, your live experiences with you, your saved games are all there, your controller works, you're moving back and forth across all all of the Xbox Ones. That that's kind of core to what we're trying to do. So between Scorpio and Neo obviously, like it is the way forward for their to now be two platforms that are kind of cross compatible the different specs on the market. At the same time, have you guys encountered any skittishness on the part of developers about having to like manage two builds, submit to builds, like you know, do a bunch of work on you know, like Jeff mentions the closed box model of the Soul like that's going away. You know. Now they've got two targets they have to worry about, like like are are you able to support them and kind of ease those fears and kind of I love that you know you're asking absolutely the right question, and some of the I think there's there's a logical question of hey, Phil, why would you ever announce two consoles at one show like Xbox one S I think is very nice to ninety nine beautiful console, and at the end you announce the next thing that's further out. Why didn't you wait? And clearly other people made a decision to wait. These discussions that we're having with partners now about the distribution of content, how you support Actually supporting multiple spec is something that the PC world's done for a long time. If you got minimspeck, you get recommended spec, you know, kind of have unbounded spell. So you kind of pick, frankly, video card suite spots where you look at the volume of the video cards that sold in CPUs and you say, oh, okay, this seems like one where there's millions of customers and there's clump of millions of customers here. Now we're going to have two in the console. We'll obviously have Xbox one. That's why I talk about Xbox one S as an Xbox one, because they will design for that one kind of compute capability there, and then you'll have Scorpio. I think the real question is, hey, how do you deliver the four K assets? You know, if I'm I buy this game and I'm running on an Xbox One, do I have to download all the four K assets when I know I'm not going to run them here? And these are the discussions we have with the partners. And frankly, the reason we announced when we did one is I wanted to give customers a view into what we were doing because I want to, like, if they say, I have an Xbox One, now I'm thinking about an Xbox one, as I want to be as transparent as I can be and so that they know they're buying with as much information as I can give them. I can't always give them all the information, but I want to give them this information. That's cool. It seems like, you know, there's too often in like the hardware business, you see like, oh, I bought this thing and then two weeks later they announced, like that you hear of the PC world all the time. Yeah, And that's that's hard. It is. And people could say they could call me and say, hey, you didn't tell us about the Xbox one S before it came out. But I'll say the Xbox One S from a game standpoint is effectively an Xbox One, right, So I want to talk about Scorpio so customers could feel like they had a view into what we were doing, so they could make the decision was right for them on your question. I also need to have that discussion with partners. And we started having that partner the discussion with partners frankly months and months ago, and it leaked, right we saw it leaked like two weeks ago, and then we're in this world of oh, I don't know what you're talking about, what Scorpio like, and I know when I'm going to go out and start talking to partners about these kind of you know, scenarios and how do we want to how do we want to tackle these scenarios that things will get out And I'd rather just do it openly and say here's what we're building towards. It's a spec that's lined up with a good PC spec, so you can actually start targeting what Scorpio will be now with the builds of the games you're doing. Because we're talking to partners that are shipping next year and already saying, Hey, here's where it's going to be. Yeah, and that's why we're then and then I don't have to like make sure that I shred every piece of paper I see that has the words on It doesn't mean we won't try to like keep things our own. But having the dialogue both so the customers see what's going on, they can see the content, and we probably won't talk a lot between now and when the next time we have something to say big about Scorpio, but you can in what we'll be doing is these exact kind of issues of hey, how do you target these two specs, how to deliver the content? You asked about entitlements like you know, does it a disk? How does that work? Like we're those are We have plans for all of those things. We're gonna talk to partners about it, and now we can do it fairly openly, which feels good. Cool. All right, Well, Phil, we're gonna let you go. Thanks so much for coming through. Thanks. I always enjoy you know what you guys bring to E three. I think you've you've seen this industry for many years now, but you're other than your review score on Quantum Break. Thank you so you agree with the Gears of War Ultimate review. Well, your Gears Ultimate score, you know it had to be higher than Quantum it was. I think it was right in line with Quantum No on PC said, Yeah, and I and I really like Gears of War. Yeah, but it's really hard to go back to Gears of War one when Gears of War three did so much more. Yes, I am very excited for it. Like I've kind of fallen away from the competitive multiplayers side of Gears because I just don't like to roll around and do shotguns. Yeah, but uh, you know, Horde Mode all the co op stuff, Like, I'm really looking forward to that game. No, but thanks for inviting me on. I love coming on every year. Like I said, I think your guys perspective on where the industry is going, the fact that you focus on on PC and console, you play your games, and I think you guys do a really good job. So thanks for that. Thanks, thanks so much. Thanks. Yeah, all right, we will take a quick break and we'll be back with more from E three twenty sixteen. Fourteen. Hello and welcome back. E three twenty sixteen continues here at Video games dot Com. I'm Jeff Jeff Garfield taken again taken in Hey, Hi, I'm Jeff. Great Nuke dot Com is back on the air. We're here for three twenty sixteen. I'm Jeff Gersman and I'm joined by another couch full of guests. Sitting directly to my left is one Cliff Blazenski. How you doing boss Key Productions? I have E three brains. That's what Phil Spencer called in and it's like, okay, what year is it? Like you, I'm watching your face. You're like we uh. We had a moment when we were doing press conference streams where last years streams accidentally started running, so I actually had to ride on the board. This is the twenty sixteen stream. Okay, so if you stand what year it is, it's on the board behind ye I'm good Drew. He's a big fan of Fantastic. Yeah, thank you. You play Pocket Morties. My wife played it because I'm not a big Pokemon fan. So it's I like the thought you mean you don't like video games, dude. Pokemon came around right around the time at E three, like two thousand and two, and I see the fucking Pikachu going around. The was a Volkswagen Beetle, I'm like, what is this shit? And then you did the same thing with Overwatch and the ubers. Oh dude, that was amazing. Oh so you do like Pokemon. I feel like I'm being like cross examined right now here from I don't give a shit about Pokemon either, and from w W E and up up, down down. Yeah, and from my mother's womb. That's right. Austin Creedy is the building celebrating, uh the anniversary, Yes, one year, grand fashioned one people. I couldn't do it. Yeah, you were here last year. Yeah, I guess at the channel launched at that point. It didn't launched yet, launched at E three. Yeah, so every e three is our birthday from the channel. That's why I learned from mister Greg mill shill up, up, down down. Make sure you go to my YouTube channel. Subscribe if you haven't already, if you haven't, make a new false Gmail account, and subscribe again. Okay, I actually should probably take notes on this. Yeah, whenever you talked about you got inserted at work the other day YouTube dot com slash kind of funny games and you know what I mean. Then you do it, you get it in like that. See that's we ended up with a bad YouTube ro. You know, well, you have a regular ro you can send people to that you make giant bomb dot com. There it is ye say hey, or it's shorter. Nuke dot com actually does redirect on us. That's very nice. Nice, but no congratulation and thank you for congratulations one year. I was one of the people last year that did not believe in him. He didn't I booked him on the show, like, let's see what this assholes? What does a sports video? He was upset at me because I beat him up in two thousand and nine. We didn't know that. We didn't know that at the time. Actually, oh wow. The first time we ever met was at TENA and I immediately picked him up on video and both of us blacked it out. And then years later we became best friends. And then we looked at that video together and realized, wait a second, we've met before, and I would shirt listen, try to pick you up. Yeah. It was real intense, but a great memory. Now. Yeah, I know, our relationship just keeps evolving, like but yeah, no. The thing that's cool about it is that h so, you know, being coming from the world of sports entertainment. Yes, a lot of people try to put you in a box and they say, oh, you're an athlete, so that means you don't have a nerd. You don't like animey, you don't like video games, or now you want to have a gaming channel. You're not gonna be able to keep that up. You're gonna do it for six months. It's like, no, like this is what I do like on my day to day. Now, No, you're gonna do it for a year. Yeah, and then every announced of the channel is shutting down. Congratulate, thank you. Okay, so I'll see you guys never. But yeah, I got the I got the gold. I don't need it big. Thanks to you guys for helping me out. Everybody here, so thank you. Thank you guys for watching. H Greg, you're here just working for game Spot and doing your own things. Just doing my own thing, just taking games, even fucking live streaming when they should be. Trust me, I'm Greg Miller from Kind of Funny. That's right, unless you pay me. I have had worse years trying to live stream from that show floor. One year that the show internet was down the whole first day and we had to try to put it. We couldn't even put up things on the website at all, so God damn it, you fucking I don't know. We haven't easy now, we haven't super. I mean, this is my tenth f three and I was walking around the show floor today and I could text everybody and I could get phone call. Its tenth three. I know I'm adorable to everyone. No, you look so good though, Cliff the clean Living I'm not going to say anything. It's my it's my second see what I'm talking about. This phone looks like we got it last week. I was too young to get in and I always wanted to go, and I'm going and just accept me. I don't want to be here at three all right. I could feel my pulse through my feet. And Cliff, you're here with law breakers? Yes? Uh, the first person shooter. Yes, and that's a boss key your your studio. We got a bunch of people out here. We have you know, five y five playable not on the show, the ship show of the show floor, but above it kind of. I think you probably if you just got ten computers and walk them down there, you'd find plenty of room to set them up. Yeah, it's a weird year. I mean having gone to every e three, every single one, all of them exactly. Atlanta. I remember the smell the cinnamon nuts in Atlanta. Remember that I saw the food Fighters twice in one night. Yeah, I was, Yeah, they went in the hotel lobby and then they went out. And then the weird ass Year in Santa Monica. That was weird. Yeah, yeah, that was weird. But it's like Cockhead the funeral, remember, and then it rose from the dead right yeah, yeah, good old Mike Wilson and yeah, and so then anyway, it's one of these things like these shows are amazing in regards to like, you know, seeing people you've known for like many many years, meeting cool new people, uh you know, going to twitch parties and realizing how fucking old you are and then at the end of the day like showing your game. But it's like it's such a weird thing because most people are just moving to their own shit. You know, they're just doing off sites now, right, and they don't want to buy all the ridiculous booths face on the show floor anymore, and so like one of the halls is basically like empty. That's like you know, tumble weeds going through and the other one's all like assist elbows, So it's a it's a weird ass year. Yeah, definitely. Yeah, as as someone who also has been to every single one, you look at it and go, I feel like they doing some purpose. Now, well, the whole thing is, you know, if you're making a game that's all digital, do you need to impress Walmart and Target? Like no, no, really, yeah, you just like you see E three is like flailing in the wind and then packs, you know, paying our kid expos just like rolling and rolling thing. You can't get a ticket to that if you're an average gamer right now, right, Yeah, they wind up selling on like ebates like panel submissions for packs or do tomorrow? I think you know really yeah, I had a call. I had a call last week to get everything squared away fore you get on that get inscription. I do want to say of playing Lawbreakers before, it is quite fantastic. That's right. You got income visit? Yes? Cool'd you like the office amazing? Yeah, I was out of the office. That's super free. Yeah, you're like buddies with some of my like Zach, yes, mister Lowry, Yeah, Zach Lowry did he tell you about the idea for the belt. No, so in our office, we're gonna have our tournaments for our game, and we're actually gonna have like a custom boss Key belt made. And you know, one of the same question I'm asked by every guy damn journalists at these events because it's just, you know, it's the hot topic, is this is the game gonna be an esport? And I'm like, I don't know, depends on people pick it up with. Yeah, we're gonna make a great game that's compelling, and then maybe it'll make that leap. But if that were to happen, we've decided already it's not gonna be like a trophy. It's not gonna be a cup. It's gonna be belts. Yes, nice, Yeah, there's a huge Yeah. Yeah next week, yes man, yes yeah. J Bailey got out of Iron Galaxy to go do some other stuff and now he's running that stuff down. That's really intense. Man. I feel like I get to go down on Saturday see some things, maybe running into my art rival Kenny Omega. M we've been well, I won't get it that we've been talking. I want to I want to see Kenny Omega skills for myself. We've been working trying to set some of that. I heard. See how that goes cheating on me. No, I'm supposed to be the only wrestler in your life. No, that's you're You're the only real one. Where's he He's in some other country doing other stuff with his crazy face and going fir making his crazy eyes right yeah, right, yeah, doctor track Suit. No, who who's that? I don't know that. Who's that? Used to be my client? That guy's own he's got a practice for Fresno. I don't know anything about it, doctor track Suit. So that's got to be crazy. I mean, you know, you are on the road and you are out there living it. Yeah, I imagine it must be hard. But I see you on Twitter constantly be on like trying to find our cade bar is trying to like like always like eventually trying to start like an open Google doc. This is the first time I've said this publicly, So everybody get your pens and pencils right right, great breaking news prepare. So as he's saying, I traveled to different cities. I'm in a different city every night usually, and I try to find the best barcade in the area if they have any there, And so I'm going to start an open Google duck that everybody will be able to see that tells you the address of the game bar like star rating, what's there? What kind of games? You have? Will kind of like come community there is there, so hopefully within like the next year or so, it's full of like every city that I've visited, so people will label though they'll know, Oh, I'm going to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Oh this place is there? Cook it up again? Did I not teach you anything last year? What's this? Is a prime merchandising opportunity. Do this, write a book, don't give it away for free? What are you doing? Mine will be so much more intense than anything that's there. Once you get a little taste for free, then I make you pay for the merchandising because if you want a better rating. Grease, No, you're doing it the wrong. Charge the kids. It took, charge both of them, burn the kennel in both. No, just just say you're gonna be in the city and then show up there and then sell the T shirts. See yeah, bring that up up, down down van to the to the barcade. See why don't you teach me that Maybe I'm gonna tea. Have you ever tried to transport two hundred shirts? What if you get there and everybody wants smalls but we only brought largess. I've been in the situation. Do you want any of my exclusive PSX shirts? I still have dozens of mediums? None of you medio medium? Well, okay, all right, Really, if if you want to get into this for reels, just take the orders up front exactly and then deliver on the back end. You say that, sweet, we take orders up front. You go to this, you go if you go over a store dot giant bomb dot com, maybe you could get yourself one of the shy Yeah, use a website, that's what I don't take a van. You don't end a van. What if you ran the website out of the van dripping T shirts around? You're like, track down the T shirt van? Do this? Why not get a T shirt gun in the van, a T shirt mounted on the top. I'm so in with the Turtles van. Can we have people coming out of the sides of the doors like with motorcycles and stuff too? They didn't having the Turtles movie that just came out so I can't. But then they have like little bolos with you should be watched. Always has those cube t shirts, so you can really nonsense. No, if you want to get into this, it's gonna take the whole thing because I have a lot to say about it. Okay, So with the first one, they're like, oh, it's Michael Bay. Don't you watch them. I'm not. I'm not going to. I haven't. I've never even seen a preview film, skipping both. My whole thing is that unprinciple. I heard that it was some random movie about aliens, and they're like, oh, this is gonna do well, so let's just put them the turtles on it. They're gonna make them aliens from space. Sure. I said, no, you can start from here and move forward, but do not touch my origins. If you touch my origins, I'm done with you. And he tried to touch my origins, so I'm done. And then I saw what he did Transformers, so no, I can't. I can't transform I'm waiting for Michael Bay to go after ThunderCats. No, God, please, that's silver Hawks really destroyed mass Crusaders. Yeah, I say that are in and say, you know, I hope it does well for your sake. No, ill will obviously, but it's it's not for me. You don't know, you're not giving a sho. I didn't watch Turtles one because it looked bad. I watched Turtles too. I was like, this is a Turtles cartoon on the big screen. They got its. Actually it's actually good. They got Chrono. I mean, no, but we're the Turtle cartoons good. Yes, they were great. Yeah, they were amazing. I mean we were kids movie. It's called Out of the Shadows, and Ninja's best weapon is what the shadow exactly, It's called the throwing start. That's their best weapons. Nine Bruce Lee with them numb chucks. He's got them numb chucks. That Turtles like, I don't know how it works, Star Shining Wheel and he's got the numb chucks. The numb chucks are a big part of it. I don't remember this. That's the whole thing. The matrix. He did, the Bruce Lee thing, the matrix. Yeah, this thing with this thing with the yeah, with the PEPSI move and then a little bit of this. Yeah, I think that's how it goes the way you were doing it actually looked more like when you put a pie in the window sill in a cartoon like the steam Yeah, that's he, that's me. Makes you have the nostrils. It leads you in. Yeah, you gotta flow like water. Oh, you must be like water. And then you get the numb Chucks. It's like sand. It's right, I want to get first person numb Chucks you're coming from. But I just think it's funny, Okay, perfect. I think it's more fun to say that it really is. That's a game I ever had first person Nunchucks. If they put sol Caliber in VR, you can play MAXI maybe like where you're kind of timing it right and if you do it wrong and you're like hit yourself in the head, dude, but you really feel it, you can really knuck yourself out. That would be cool. You could have like a rhythmic we're talking about in a hand when when don't we get a new road? Rash? Can you make? Can rash cancel Lawbreakers? Make a new road Rash cancel Breakers? It's about the rash VR. You see Maximum Games. Let's put out a press release. They have some kind of motorcycle combat game. I don't I cannot speak to its quality. I just read words that said motorcycle road something something road crash. Yeah, and so it seems like maybe they're chasing after who played in sixty four Road Rash religiously accept anyway, But I had a theory earlier today if they just took older games and put them in VR, they'd be unreal. So like, for instance, Kid Chameleon, which is a game like about being in VR. In VR, it's inception VR, but you see all of these platform games, but you're in the game. So that road Rash, Jam and Earl due to Jam and Earl be so nasty Joe and Mac. Oh, yeah, dude, Alex the Kid so good? So super Hot VR? Did you play super Hot? Yes, super so they're bringing that to VR. And did you finish Super Hot? Things happened real weird? Yeah, But then it gets you what I'm gonna do that? Yeah? Yeah, no, no, don't tell. In the trailer, they show you taking the headset off, only to find that you are still wearing a headset because it's super out VR, and that thinks that he does is going place at the top still spinning. Yeah, exactly. It was a super exciting trailer. It's like did you ever play Amicron on Dreamcast? No, Mad Soul, the woman David. They are telling you, like, oh, if you die in this game, you'll die in real life. Maybe very scared to play the game. And that's they've been using that gimmicking a lot of like that old movie Stay Alive, like where it's like, if you die in the game, you done in real life. Maybe VR will get there someday, it would be real sword art online right now, right, So, uh, Lawbreakers, that gun behind you, Yes, is a cool feature. The thing is and not go don't need to get in PRM. But it's been driving me crazy because you can shooting behind you and like move through low gravity. And it's one of those things like people when you put a new feature in your shooter, people tend to try and play the shooter like the old shooters and they don't do them. You use the new stuff. It's like when we did Gears, getting them to actually take cover like took a lot of like tricky work. So like when you were playing Gears and you were playing the campaign, if you were being shot up by the enemies, they were like sixty percent more accurate if you weren't in cover. So it's like, oh you want it, you better get in coverment. Yeah so that actually worked nice. Yeah, that's uh that that whole mechanical like, because it seems like is it is it the guy the middle of every map will be low grap or is not every map every I mean we have a lot more tricks of ours. Okay, cool? Yeah, so they have all sorts of like different variable gravity things that they're gonna be working on a different maps. You know, we're just loading out the basic stuff. You have to train people on the funky gravity before you get really weird with it. Yeah. That's uh. That seemed because it's initially looking down at the you know, you had a little card of like here's how to control it. I'm like it's a shooter, and I'm going like, oh wait, what does this control? Shoots the gun behind you? That seems weird, Like how would you ever hit anyone doing that? That seems insane? But I do like the justs like but when it's like you got so and so and you're just like it's like ash and evil dead, right, it feels like if that ever happens, the game should just stop and just say like, hey, this just happened. Yeah, well we got that. It's gonna be like when you win like a b jewel match or something nice. Every everybody's yeah yeah. And then seeing that that's like you know, when you're in low gravity, you can kind of prepare everybody to tell it. Yeah, right, then just go back and just it's like you almost want like this, like you know, six o'clock camera, like a real like camera like show like actually what happened behind you? Actual see the person explode in the little bits? Yeah, yeah, real quick? Is there a dick drawn on your hand? Cliff, I was gonna say something about that and forgot. Looks like there's a cock and balls on your hand. It does, No, it's tried to scrub away. It's actually it's a cucumber and chooe strawberries. Oh two, very round? You drawing things on the board back there, and I see something back there that maybe it looks a little Yeah, that was like a tick too, Yeah, cons like the one in your hand? What's coming out of them? Did you you're a dick on your own hand? I cannot confirm our deny this. I mean I had I had to sketch it out of my hand. First before I put on the Board's just like Michael concept here, because the raising things on a chalk board. Well, and to really get it right, the graato its kind of like that Witcher card game thing on the side of the figure row where they which they'll finish it and then he three will be over like what they were out there, like last night's still painting. How many fucking layers of paints are on that building. That building was probably like five feet like shorter on that side, and they've been painting on it for so long it's just created this whole like like eight thousand layer dip of paint there. So is this the the Kojuma deal? Ye? The man it's krets that's Kratos, that's Viking Credos having a baby, and then Knabi will steal the baby and kill it. It's not turning into a Pacino machine, Yeah exactly. But then is this binary with the two So it's like it's right here, real intense. It gives you a really good depth of feel. We're turning to look at it. Yeah, it's visual for the people I was calling that game normal. Well, oh well, okay see it. Yeah, I can't point to it take my head. Well, wow, wow, this is where the money is. Like, we're just listening to his pulse. Yeahs did it quicken? Listen to my soul? So, Greg, you've been knocking around the show, taking appointments to doing stuff. When I were talking earlier that it was like kind of novel for you to not be tied yet of the booth. This is like the first time in five years I haven't been hosting a live show the entire time. So I actually get out to see things and play games. And how's that been going? What it's been nice? It's way easier. I remember, like because like in the old days when I went and saw games, I sit there and write about him. Oh, make sure that write about it when I get into a computer. And now it's like, oh sure, I just listened to you for a while. And then I come back and I'm like, I think they called the enemy this, And then the views just roll in and I'm like, man, YouTube's great. Yeah, step three, profit, yeah, question question to be what I call interview. Feel I'm just like in a dark room and it's just like speed dating with journalists. Yeah, and they asked me the same five questions, so I was gonna say like like at this point, you know, like you have like enough of a backstory and enough like like past word, it's been, it's been good this time. Is this just Gears with this or you know, you're like what I literally have asked you if you were gonna make this game gonna be an esport? What do you think of the New Gears? Maybe questions about diversity and games, uh, as well as does it feel well some random ass shit like what's your top favorite five games? And thankfully this this whole trip, they've been pretty good and pretty entertaining. And the thing is they if they want to ask something interesting or personal, they apologize. You're like, no, that's what I actually want, Like I don't want to tell you how many fucking guns are in the game, Like that's not exciting. I'm sorry to ask you something personal. But what do you think the New Gears spot for you? On a first line? I have notes? Yeah, okay, I'll leave it. I mean I imagine you know the amount of time you spend with that thing, Like regardless you would you would certainly have Well, it's it's kind of like you know, Epic making games and then Gears being making or microsofting a new version of Gears. It's like it's kind of like splitting up with an ex amicably and then they remarry and then you you're happy for them, but you don't want the person to be cooler or hotter than you. No, totally, it's exactly the same failing. So are these notes because they're cooler or hotter than you? Well, there's little things in the game I would tune. I'll leave it at that, but hey, Rod, you can call me any time. We'll give you the notes. They're they're doing a good job of the man the game script. So I mean obviously you're you're getting ready to kind of more people play Lawbreakers out there in the world this weekend. Man. Yeah. So yeah, we had five thousand codes on pc gamer dot com when we did the PC Gamer Live show and those one like that, and then we've been handing them out at E three Like I got the little card, you know, like, oh, you know, you know, Willie Wanka style or exactly, I feel like, you know, my fingers like fucking gambit, throw it at a bunch of people. Jesus, Oh it's cod yeah exactly. So I had a weapon so as you kind of get ready for like a much larger number of people to start playing the game, Like how does that? Like what are you looking for, Like, like what kind of are you looking for? Any kind of telemetry or you're looking to get data out of it? Yeah, well you know, stuff's can be broken, man, you know, and like, you know, this is a situation where it's free and basically you can come in and find the stuff that sucks comment in the balance, and like we didn't want to do the whole like have the game goes out to hopefully millions of people and then you face plant day one because you're just making a denial of service attack on the game. So it's like, you know, we build up you know, five hundred people, five thousand, twenty thousand and fifty thousand, hundred thousand, and then you just kind of make sure that you can, you know, scale yourself verse so when you're actually asking for money from people, you don't face plant like that. And then they go like you know, you know, Steam, return the damn game and go play the next damn Call of Duty, right, not sything wrong with the cold dating. Yeah, that trailer was good. Yeah, they're in space. It's crazy, I know, right, yeah, but they're on the ground and they're like, fuck it, let's go to space. Mark my words. World War two is coming back with a vengeance. I think it has your average Call of Duty kid does not remember the old Call of Duty games where you're storming the church. And I want to see the Omaha Beach invasion next gen. It would be absolutely amazing. Yeah, and see, I mean just yeah, exactly, it's too real for me. I can't play those games. No, I cannot. Did you guys see the Walking So my buddies are crazy? Did this VR experience of the Vibe where it's that Frenchman where you Joseph give it, Joseph Gordon meet Just that's the one Joseph's gonna get it? Yeah, and basically the dude to the tyrope block across the world trade. Yeah. Yeah, and like they actually have like the cord on the carpet in the room for the Vibe, they have a fan blowing on you and shit, and you put on the headset and you put in the earphones and it goes against every part of your lizard. And I couldn't do it. Really. Yeah, I'm starting I'm starting to think like Elon Musk, I really think we're actually in the fucking matrix y and like what if this is actually like this reality is fake, but that was the real real thing and like in that exactly recursion. That's good. So you've been going have You've been going around shooting stuff YouTube, mainly interviews, and then we do some like Facebook live things and YouTube stuff. So tomorrow be uh, we'll get to play a lot more. Say, we get to do like Tech and seven, which I've been really hype about. Yeah, big on tech and Yeah, feeling this one. Yeah, yeah, it's good. Good. I mean, we're gonna go finally play it tomorrow. I saw a little bit of it yesterday just kind of walking by. I was like, good, God, damn. And there's a Gundam game on VR or on Vita coming out. Big difference, Yeah, big difference. Good, Yeah, super successful. We go both Austin Austin. Both Austin's are into this Gundham game, which is not surprised because it's Vita and yeah, I actually yeah, for me, the surprising part is that there's a Vida game here. Why there's two Oh well all right, yeah, hockeybas Beat as well. Over the ex seed booth. Come on the new Project Diva. Oh I didn't see it. Looks good Venus stocks all right, yeah, yeah, one's available. Game stop now, I'll probably maybe how much do they kick down to you for every Vita that yourself. That's really crazy Venus so they can just quietly dis continue. I feel like any Vita that's old over the last six months has to be a the direct result of you going like the vita kind of funny is starting and this is real, the Vito relocation program. We're making a trailer when we get home that is going to be that if you have a Vita that's collecting dust, mail it to our po box and then on our forums, we're starting a list where we will then mail them out one by one. Oh my god, we got our first one. Like the SPCA for the Vida, we already that we're probably doing. I'm just seeing it so we don't have comprehending and I just I'm here to ruin your day. I love you xo xo. And did you know that millions of Vitas each and every day go on love have one never somebody's grabbing an off screens. Oh, I mean like yeah, they're fuzzy, but yeah, I mean if you count the ones that are probably in a warhouse somewhere. Yeah, exactly, Yeah, open the gate, let's give these away. Selling itself through. It's safe. It's a great handheld. Is it a great handheld? Did I see yours? Do you want to see how great this handheld is? You want to see the amount of shit you have to tack on her to make it? Now? Wait, wait without this onto it? No, it's not terrible. You can play without. What is all that? Mine doesn't look like that. My point is because she's a pro gamer. What do you what's your programming? It's got it's got a huge nipples, two buttons, the tap of rear screen. Yeah, it's got her shorter the huge exactly. This is actually comfortable thing wrong with huge nipples. I've been told by other people this thing it just melts in your hand like an eminem Right, it doesn't feel bad. You can be on the winning team. Greg Miller, Austin Creed, Lauren. This is a nicer team, right, What did you get? This washed up hasn't made a game even years imported from back. I might make a road rack. I might have to get one of these. Okay, perfect, Well see another reason you get the Vita. You can make cool stuff. This is pink and white. Look at the color accents on this thing. Can't do this with like a game gear, Yeah, I mean, if that's what we're comparing it to. I mean, I've got a game gear with the magnifying glass like bolts in the front of it, which is super custom, right, you know, paint it and everything. It makes it look for people in that the giant glass exactly noble, thank you. I think if they could do I mean, the Vida screens, they couldn't do it, but if they can just get a magnifying I bought I bought a Vita, imported a Vida from Japan that has a USB port bolted into it theoretically so it could be a capture unit like people made weird bootleg Vita capture unit, because I'm like, well I need to I need to capture video out of this thing. Like this thing's gonna be big, so I need to be captured and cutting edge. Yeah, well, you know, you know, Sony's not setting out dev kits for this thing because they don't want people to cover the Vita. So I'm gonna have stick matters to own hands buy this thing because they have faith. I just got my DS captured unit. Yeah, thing from Japan. Real strange, Yeah, real strange. It's exciting using software. Oh man, I can't wait, Like this the new final fantasy for it, and it's like, oh cool. And then that came in. The actual system came in like four months later, and I was like, all right, all right, it's cool to get the word. I don't know what I'm going to play because if I play the Nintendo, I'm gonna get punched in the throat. Oh so that's you know, that's that's the thing that you know happens like it feels like the larger channels maybe get a little bit more protection from that sort of stuff on YouTube sometimes. But we haven't done through the like the ambassador stuff, so once if we get the chance to do that, then I think it'll be okay. But I just don't want to like ruffle any feathers. Sure, so yeah, you stay away from or give away all your revenue, because that's the other problem with problems. They're they're gonna take your money. They're gonna come in like the tax man, Tex man, and then you you go back, you check the box and you type fair use motherfucker you just typed literally that in and it sends. And then Reggie gets and goes got me again. Dirty kids, These kids understanding the law meddling kids. These kids are lawbreakers. Tell me about the law breakers. So the build I played of law Breakers had I believe it's four class like three weeks ago. Yeah, yeah, is that? I love being in la What what sort of number are you looking? Is that? Is that the number? Or don't? We don't want to be the game that has like four thousand like characters in it. Like those games are cool for what they are, but like for us, initially, less is more, so we can continue to roll out new new characters or new roles and have people complained to us about how we've ruined the game and how it in balance. It is now definitely and so we have, you know, a few more that we're kind of playing with. So when we get to paid release, we're anticipating maybe five to six initially, but I mean, you know, you don't just release a game. The Old Guard is like put out a six seed dollar game, you know, pump and dump some really bad like DLC and then cut your losses and move on to the sequel. And if you watch the sales charts and the concurrent users sells a lot and then just then they wait for the sequel. The new World Order is to just kind of ramp it up. Ramp it up, make sure all your characters, all your new maps are free. Then find another way to monetize inside the game that people are actually happy about. There's an interesting concept. Yeah, I mean Gears had skin packs that were ninety nine dollars and stuff like that. People who used to complain about that to me, and I'm like, you're you're more than happy to not buy the skins that will make you more visible to your enemies people, did you know? And the number one was number two selling one was the pink Lancer because people just want to troll people. I will say that, you know, like that the video that we put up of me buying thee hundred dollar skin pack, and did they actually do one of those? Yeah? It was every single skin for like Gears three. I had nothing to do that. I don't like money. Yeah. Uh. And and but the video we did of showing that off did quite well, So you know, the major money back. Yeah maybe maybe I'd probably not ad sense who knows. Yeah, I don't know how this works. Everyone runs an AD blocker now anyways, so nothings making. But you love the websites that are like, excuse me, we've noticed you have an AD block or if you'd like to look at our website, please turn it off. I'm like, I'm never going to visit you again. Yeah, that's uh, yeah, I don't. I don't think you can. I don't think you can do that. I think you kind of have to just have to roll with it. I mean, you know, it's why you know. I mean obviously you know you're kind of doing your your Patreon thing. We have a subscription services. I understand that's how the system works. But it's like I'm at the point where like, if somebody's gonna invade my like mental space with an AD for like a Toyota Prius, it's like just fuck off, you know. And it's the real problem is now we're in a in a world where like Adobe Flash is not a safe thing to have installed, right because all the third party ads are just coming with a bunch of bullshit, and that's real scary. Or you know, I mean you go to install you know whatever from Microsoft. It's like, we want to make bang your default circuits. They always made super subtle and like little check boxes. It just says you like bing right, this little picture of Bing Crosby and you're like, yeah, like a seems music. I start a cop in the Windows ten sneakiness where they force it on you. Yeah, yes, I tried to go in, Like the past three days, I've been trying to go in. Just just make Google my default, and it'll make my default while I'm still in the window. But if I exit out and then it goes right back to Yahoo. Well yeah, which, oh wait, I got a story about Yah who swept got bad sh When I first started dating my wife, my wife's like, yeah, you know, he makes games apparently, and you know he's fairly well known for him. She's like, what's his name? And my wife's like, what are you doing? She's like, I'm yahooing him. Yeah, it's not a word. So there's like one of three people left us. She's ULTI visting you. Yeah, she's asking Jeeves hitting, she's reading his live journalnal fantast. He's got a geo cities. You want a live journal, guy? No, I was, I'm older than you. I looked down on all you emo children. I think you're like two years older than me. You kids in your snapchats? What where's my phone's plug? Again? Be a snapchat? Can you grab my phone? I saw an that was like surgically appreciate Laura. That's the way to give me a drink, Laura? Can I have another one? Too? Yeah? I love you, Laura, and I'll settle for tetoes, even though tastes like a Potato's butthole. Delicious potato buttholes, the worst thing out of Austin. Greg. Last time we spoke on kind of Funny games. Yeah, YouTube dot com slash kind of funny games, Jeff Krisman. If you want to go to patreon dot com slash kind of funny games, there's an exclusive episode up with Jeff. It's true, there is which one all of it? Yeah, once or twice if you signed up for a giant On Premium exclusive episode of Dancers with Greg mill I was thinking we should try to cross that over at some point. Yeah, where we can post the dancers. You could post the games, guys, and then everybody profits. Again, we should ask and somehow we get khakis. Yeah, we should apps. So it's an article that us explaining why the Snapchat interface is like bad. Yeah, Snapchat video. Yeah, we're a giant bomb right now doing some stuff. Everybody get it. The picture, Yeah, it's it's a video right now. Chat you and your snappy chatties clippy and we like Clippy Clippy. Let me tell you that. On my my Space page, Tom, what's my friend? Did he stay in your top eight? Motherfucker? Kept it real? People trolled him on Twitter and he's like, dude, I sold my company for like an eight hundred million dollars. I have better things to do. We talked a lot about virtual reality. We did this is a big show for VR. Have you gotten to try any more of it? Here? I did, uh, send your real games coming along instead? Here. I want to give you one one instance where I'm watching the PlayStation conference and they here's some VR games and Mark Hamill's voice comes out and I did the wait, no, no, I did one of these, and then I was like, oh my god, oh my god. An arkham game was like wait, this is gonna suck. There's gonna be ten minutes and it's not gonna be good, and I got to go play it here the Arkham Experience. Yeah, well no Batman Arkham VR Cliff come back and the but my bar was so low I had a fucking ball with it. It totally, it is the it is. It got one of my Game of the Show awards. It is totally. That's right. We did see your face on that thing. Like it's just like the Star Wars comes up and you're in the ship. You here, You're like, holy shit, yeah, you know it was. It totally blew my mind in terms of and it's because it's the it's a VR experience. Again, it's gonna be an hour long when it's ten minute, like go up the wall and game no no, no no. You can go back and replay it afterwards and you'll get find new things in the area. So it's like encouraging replayability. But it is, it is. It is going to be I think for nerds like me V game where your friend comes over, you like b Batman put this on because it is rock Steady making the game. It is their assets, it is the environment. So like when it was sin Sony's Yeah, it's Warner has it also. Yeah, I'm sorry. Yeah, one I'm just trying to figure isn't on you know Sony's Morpheus. Yeah, it's exclusive. Here's my funny you know theory about VR. As much as I love VR and I always gush about it, I actually I am getting the vibe that Sony is going to be the one to make it happen. Yeah. Really, like you look at like install based already the money's already invested. So the actual like games, you know, like that giant like robots golfing game that like the Yeah, like that looks like a blast like most of the things I've seen in the vibe or on what do you call it Oculus, It's like just many little things and you d throw some shit around. And that's what I was expecting. Here was a mini Batman game, and again it's not a Batman. A little bat comes off a lot like that stuff. A VR board game like a you know, hit Man goes in VR and the oculas like a little big picking up a little mini Batman and having them go do mini Batman. I really want to see Tuban in VR. Yeah, or a road Rash. If only I had a friend who made games and had enough money to buy road Rash with Okay, when you say it's an hour long, it's probably worth it. What you like, you're watching pretty much? Well no, because okay, so the idea is like it starts off you're in Wayne manner. It's like it comes up and your hands are in front of because youre using move controllers. It's like ray Man, you just see hands. Yeah, here's the like that the other under the table, just like eating and it's supposed to be old, but you looked down in your knuckles are bare and they're all they're all like bruising, bloody, and was cool. Alfred comes any hands u key, You unlock the piano, you play a couple of notes, and you go down this huge elevator. So what you do, though, is that there's a picture of you as a child with your parents on the piano. So when Alfred came up, I just picked that up and threw it at him, and then everybody just kick it shows up again, so I was like, well, so I just kept throwing it. Was like, that's right, you're my butler. Take it, you fucker. I'm doing this because my parents were killed. And then finally realize like, oh right, I have to go down this thing. And you go. You put on the suit, you get the grappling gun, you get the crime scene investigator, you get batter rings. But then you the second part is you you got to going to the back of you look around, you see the giant penny, you see the distor. But then the second one is you go to the crime scene investigation like you've done an Arkham before, and this time you get there and night wings there and he's dead and his neck's been broken, and so you have to reconstruct the crime scene and see how it happens. You hop around like Arkham. You kind of like the best things that they realized was, you know, the fact that he's the greatest detective. They actually have the detective shit in there as well as being an inja, which is cool. So like in this version of the game, you like, finish that thing and then it's done. That's what's No, it's a story, so like, but the version of showing here, yeah, like you like, all right, yeah, it'll be an hour or whatever, but right here, it's just the games. It'll be it. The idea is that it's going to be that you're in the backcave. You go out for this, you find the night wing thing, you go to cobble pat You're like, you have to like raise the controller above your head to do like the counter for the Maine fighting. I don't think you have to fight all. Yeah, And that's the thing is is like a lot of it just seemed kind of clumsy to me compared to like other like you know, hey, I'm throwing a thing in VR, like the batterings on your belt. You reach down and grab it, and it just the throwing of the battering felt real bad. It's that weird thing where it's it's auto targeting. So it's like like is for one for one is everything is supposed to be like five is or whatever. I'd I'd rather throw and miss. Whereas like they want you to feel like Batman. So you're like, you ever play budget Cuts? No? So budget cuts is this great little thing on Vive where it's basically you're in this office and you have to take out these robots. The IP is not important. What's important is the locomotion mechanic where it creates a portal where you point to and so your vision kind of adjusted to the new location. And then you kind of step through the hole there. But then you have to get these robots that you're fighting, and you pick up these blades and you have them in your hand and you pick it up from that head and you have to like do the whole like throw it at the robots and it really feels one to one. You have to really learn how to do it. And like once the robot turns and comes at you and you're panicking and you're portaling out of they're like get to be the fuck out of here, right, or just trying to francily grab it thro mark my words. Valve is using that as they're nobracular drop for the next portal game or something in the Portal interperience. Like so I have a I have a Vibe. I preodered it because I was so excited about it. I got played at Valve. I was gonna say it, what sucks. They sent it to me for free. Oh I tried. I talked to you about trying to get one for free, and you didn't help me. There's gotta be second classicizens in the YouTube society. I'm sorry, get them okay, so fair, But all all the games, like I love all of them like Vanishing Realms, like the Dungeon Crawler. It's so good, all the controls feels so into it for junkers and like what's that, junkers, I haven't played it. I have, I have it on my computer. They solve part of the locomotion by just being very gentle. Yeah, but like even like the Pool game is amazing to like playing multiplayer you see something like a headset floating around and the little hand pieces floating around. You can throw beer bottles at the wall. But like the Pool feels it feels real and you're so immersed. And I feel like, while these are the first sets of games that are out for it, and yes they're not like full length thirty hour RPGs like these, somebody's gonna take them, you know, the element from this one shooting game and then this pub game. They're gonna make a series of things around a new aple. And I feel like for the first set of games, like they're freaking great, especially like was it Fantastic Contraption. It's pretty much like the Incredible Machine, but like in vas Rube Goldberg and build your Ship, Yeah, because and then you have them go do things, so like people that are watching on the computer. They can say like, oh, you know, try putting this here. Be great would be the bridge builder. And then when you go in the car, you're in the car. Yeah, and then you're like geez, so there's it's called chunks and you you are this. You you could scale up and down, but you're big c you can plot out roller coaster tracks, so you're just like painting coaster. Yeah. The sequel is gonna be yeah. Yeah. So it's literally like they make a roller coaster techno. So so it's there's no like game around it. Really, it's where you'd blame yourself for throwing up, so you just yeah, you draw your big circle, you twist it here. So they just need to do a two player version of that. We're like challenge each other. Yeah, right, like so here's so then catch the song comes on. The crazy part is you draw all that stuff and then go like, okay, now I'm gonna now I'm gonna point at this part of the track, pull the trigger, and then there's a cart there and then I'm gonna hit this button. Now I'm in the car, I become small and now I'm riding this fucking roller coaster, which except for the part where you're still standing up, is fine. It's it's a lot of fun because you get to see like, Okay, what kind of nightmare can I build? It becomes that like Chuck Yeager test Lab kind of like just roll the fuck up. I want something to finally make me sick and VR less go and finally. Yeah, as if that experience hasn't been every game, like for me, it's it's Batman was a big thing for me because the first time I ever did get motion sick was Riggs the in the elevator. Okay, because you were coming up and it stopped, but my body kept going right and so I was like, oh, second, you have that disconnect. It's a straight, straight train of horkdown. Yeah, Like I haven't had the problem yet, and I want to know where limits of So many people have stayed about resid eval three. I've heard that too, sick. Yeah, Well it's it's yeah because it's it's all first person. It's this very smooth movement, but that that's not how you walk like you view Bob. Yeah, but if they put view Bob in the game, that'd probably break into the thing about VR is when it works. If it works, If one thing is slightly off, you puke. Yeah, you know, it's it's so hard to get right. But I just, you know, maybe maybe I'm just built of sterner stuff. Probably you've been to every three your weather. You have to the knowledge. That's uh, that's been for me like a British taxi driver. You have the knowledge. Yeah, exactly, he's got knowledge. Vick match more Porridge all right, chatting up your bed, Yeah, take off my Nike So uh, Austin, what's next for you? You are here at three tomorrow seeing some games we're doing tomorrow. I don't know. You want to hang out? Yeah? Maybe over at YouTube dot com. SLA's kind of funny games and we might up up down down YouTube channel knock that I've done enough for that, you might. I mean you've done quite a bit, but done some stuff for kind of funny. These videos also go up on YouTube and Giant Bomb on the YouTube dot com slash the real Giant Bomb because the other one was taken and we built the site before people really thought about what a YouTube or else should be. And ornuke dot com right, yeah, or just find us at nuke dot com Video Games. We are at video games dot com. We are video games dot com. Literally, you could type that into the internet and get me us here. Now get real fake doors, right, I'm not plugging my shit like that. Tell it no, say it yeah, Roadrash do it, roadrash dot com. I'm I'm rebooting that. Yeah. Oh hey, idea not video game related, but final let's might want to help me with something. You're you're gonna be mad at me forgiving. Let's go rob a bank. I want you in on it. So, I mean check it out. What if there was a channel where we brought back all the old school Nickelodeon game shows but for adults like guts yes double there the old down there. So these getting like like adults like sexy double. It's like it's like us I double dairy to put you're summing my brother? I mean what I did say? Okay, so we're talking about they just digging like a butthole for the flag and it's just crap on them like I got it put like a hamster like and Mark Summers is there and he's just washing his hands. Go ahead, yeah, go on, do it, go slower. I need this. You don't want to get it on the green and you're starting investments right here. So our first one's gonna be Legend to the Hint Temple, okay for adults, and they're gonna go Nick Arcade. Nick Arcade's yeah. I was hoping if we're can expand out of the game shows eventually so I can host my own. You can't do that on television, of course. Suck. Oh my, I don't know. Just like get like Christine Moose McGlade back. She's she's got a host though. That's the okay, we should do a Wild and Crazy Kids for adults where we chase kids. Oh my god, yes, all right, And Greg, what do you have going on for the rest of the show. He's seeing some more games be able to crap on YouTube dot com slash kind of funny games. God damn it. You're going over there seeing games. Check it out? Check it out. I'll check it. Sounds good. As someone who's been to every e three, it would mean a lot to me that you came in and looked at it, you know what I mean, I will I will look at over three. Yeah, every e three From the start of time. It feels like I signed up for something and now there's no like I feel now I have to go to every three. You can't miss one, No, no, no, no not At this point, three feels like the inverse of like Comic Con, where Comic Con started off, It's like four people in a card table, like a huge and bigger and bigger. E three started huge, and it's eventually just gonna be like four people with monitors in one room, like, hey, come check out my stuff. Yeah, then is that going to be you with four monitors when I when when I re retire? Yes? Yeah yeah now yeah, So tomorrow I'm showing off the game more and being interview real not as bad Tomorrow the schedules a little bit lighter, doing a couple of live shows and then uh, you know, piecing out of downtown and then Joe going to the beach nice and then and then the game becomes playable to a wider spat, then it becomes sentient, and then it just starts playing itself if the game starts masturbating at that point. So, how how often is there like a Cayden said that it was te street flight, We want it all? Is there a Cayden some updates that you're looking a hitters are more like just looking for bucks. Once the game goes really properly live, not necessarily on the eighteenth, or you need to get to the point where we have a strike team that like fixes the game, make sure it actually freaking runs, and then one that's making new content. You know, because you can grow your concurrent users if you promise them that you will continue to have a new stuff and you telegraph it. What I'm really looking forward to is once we have new characters and new stuff that's forthcoming is like you know, modifying these existing maps where like if there's a you know, a character that's coming along that has a mask, you know, will suddenly update the level. So there's a case with the mask in it, You're like, what is that mask cruise? That going to be right? And then you know, if like you know, a storm's gonna come, that's gonna really cause major problems in the world. Eventually clouds start showing up in the skybox and really like figuring out what the long term fixtion is. It's like you know, the warcraft it with like Cataclysm and all that kind of stuff, and it's the kind of fun stuff you can dabble in when you're making a living product, that's cool. Yeah. Well, and you know, just listening to people's feedback, listening to what Total Biscuits said, all the streamers, you know, and you should. After we had the streamers playing the game, it was like a mad panic at the office because if it's like, oh my god, we need to change all the ship and like everybody calmed down, baby steps, one nudget a time. And my favorite thing was like people played the game for ninety minutes in their live stream. They're like, this game's not balanced. I'm like, you played it for ninety minutes, Like they're still finding out what Smash Brothers characters are good. Yeah, like Jesus, you're suddenly the expert. It's almost like a lot of streamers don't see a lot of pre rous builds of games. Yeah, well, we're at point where a lot of the streamers, what we want to do is get the people who are going to be the next big thing, you know, not like go and like pay the people who are enormous like a ton of money. Just like our game. We're out of the victim of your own success. So yeah, that's the plan. Cool at least, all right, Well, home I'm gonna sleep for twelve hours. I have a code for the game in my pocket. Look forward to playing a little more. Man, you guys have one no, no, okay, well well play that PC NERD ship can get I've been away all right, Thanks all three of you for coming through, of course, thanks for having a beautiful love, coming through a beautiful time. We'll be back with another round of guests here in a chunk of times. I don't know, but I should know that, right, I should totally be more on it, right, But no, I have a laptop with exciting I focus on the now. There we go. I'm not living like, what's the next segment? I'm one with time perfect. He was at E three one. He wasn't like, what is E three thirty five? Look true? Yeah, so you've been to what forty seven, forty seventy three, seventy three? It's an ancient wizard. I think it's twenty two, twenty two, twenty one, one two, something like that. I don't know about you, but I'm feeling twenty. I couldn't have gone, oh yeah, good one, that's good. Started. Yeah, I started going to this like I could have as a fetus sniper marrows. I went to every three. My mother was the first one when she was pregnant with me. Same Dick, be with you, take me with you on the road. I'll stand behind you. You can. You can come on. We're going to Japan in two weeks. Oh man, I'm gonna trying to go to Japan for the last five it's been so I I mean, the road is rough, though, you know we're gonna be I mean a river with all your fucking fans listen to it. You know. I have to go do some stay and walking around saying Hi, do you have to go to Vegas on Sunday and to a pay per view and then draw and SmackDown? And they come back out here to la for Vad Khan and then I'll be out here. I'll go to Orlando Saturday for CEO and then do some shows there, and then I gotta go to Hawaii and then Tokyo for two days and then come back to the States and wrestle. It's do you understand what he does for you people? Do you understand that sounds amazing and your reward is a brand split? Hang over your head? Please, what's gonna happen? I don't know. I don't want to. I really wish, I know, to work. I don't know. I don't know. I just want my Fridays back. You chose this, all right, We're gonna wrap it up so we can all have a good cry. Yeah, and then we'll be back, renewed and ready to press for Yeah. Don't listen hard, I don't pay attention to the This is that you're running from anyone anywhere. Don't understand. It's time for professional Internet. That's what we're here to deliver professional Internet content. I'm Jeff Gerssmon from giant bomb dot com and now I'm joined by Jenga's finest, Greg Rice and Tim Shafer of Double Fine. Yeah. That took a lot out of me. I was gonna give it all there, he's got nothing left. And Nathan Developed from Cavy Games. How you guys doing im good? I took a lot of photos of that checking game. By the way, that's maybe the most well, maybe that was the most photographed Jenga game of all time. I think people because it was basically the volleyball scene from Top Gun. Yeah right, I mean our muscles. It was a little sex fear. People can now look at these guys like like there you were saying, they're they're trying to like a little they're they're acting like nothing. Magic will just happened right there. I don't know, I feel like I'm standing around and staring at it. Or should we get like a monolith they're scared to knocking is a little close by the yea, he knows he's close. It will fall At some point, I was thinking that maybe we should power bomb Dan through the Jenga and the table and last table, it's a glass table. Was backing up every time because I knew that the it's a mirror glass table. Yeah, it is totally a coke table. That's why I was so stable, because that's the hotel, right, it's just creepy, you know, like that's why they think, Yeah, exactly. The company's parties on the roof. So we get this room in a discount. So at least that's how it was last year. I think they probably charged people cannot hear us. But the whole time we're playing, Nathan Belle was yelling really unsupportive, yeah, really aggressive, really profanely competitive. Yeah yeah, he was basically bullying, and I'm anti bullying, but it really drove me to my best performance. Yeah, I was. I was just trying to make you step up. He be the man. Sometimes that's what it takes. It's not a good father that might may inspire the son. Basically, I was holding Tim's hand as I could say yeah, and he did and now there's Jenga. Yeah, except well sometimes when I was pushing those little it was just like my talk. Do you think the giant Jenga is easier than regular Jena a little bit. It's got a little more hast too, and its stability. Yeah, that guy, he's saying that to take away that amazing thing that happened. No, No, I'm just like you guys as Jenga experts. I'm sure this happens all the time with any signs of Jenga wherever you go, literally everywhere. I could sit there and I could vibrate the thing and the whole thing would kind of vibrate but still be okay. So John Drake's trying to take credit for all of this, by the way, it's it is. It is his Jenga set, But that does that doesn't hand up my things. He might own the tapes, but he doesn't own the magic that's on those tapes exactly. You know, he knows that he's got the calf diet coke jitters. He could never do that. Yeah, this happened, Yeah, this all happened. I don't know. Dan Reichert and Dave Lang played some Jenga in Drake's backyard recently and it was a real shit show. It sounds then. Before I knew it, Before I knew someone was telling me we're getting Jena down here for the show. I'm like, really, it's strong choice. He's gotta be every year. It's gonna be a bigger ja. Yeah. Now now that we have done this, now everyone's like lumberjacks at logs. Yeah, you know that's I was. I was frantically trying to eat a little bit between segments and just like watching you guys do this and just like in disbelief, just like now that that move was an offence to man, Oh my god, Oh why is the new VR yet? What do you guys do want? I think it worked, touch controls, tap the little pieces. Just some U should get on that, I mean or one yeah someone you guys are the experts. Yeah, yeah, easily making like one game or something. You guys are making like nine thousand US Yeah, and every time I turn around, like we got nine more Double Fine games that we're either publishing or doing something with. I don't know. We're busy, but it actually is like nine, isn't it? Like every single person in your studio is working on at least three games? Yeah? Yeah, we got a lot of there's much not much times, it's a lot of it's a lot of bars you have to go basically some of them have to be VR just by the math frames, yeah, or else you just get closed. You have announced secret one nuts right now, any sort of secret secret or not. We're not we're not making any of VR stuff. Sorry. Sorry, So it's someone below out first. Yeah, maybe we should finish the game even for four years? Yeah, how is that going? Is it's do out summer the summer? Yeah, it's it's kind of terrifying to think about releasing a game that we've kind of just been working on a really long time. But at the same time, like I can't wait to know that's ready. But what will you do once it's I mean, you'll fix books. We also have like three other games on the ghost, so that that also will probably you don't like, get right back on the No. Yeah, we're gonna, we're gonna keep We're gonna We've got some some secrets in store for the release, and that's gonna mean that we'll have some cool stuff to do for a while. And I'm super excited to get it out. I'm super excited for people to like actually like get to play it. Yeah, outside of like an E three twelve minute there's like, you know, crazy gongs going off or loud music, and you know, somebody's dressed up as a choke a bow and that was me. Yeah, I did the choke a both time. It's a game you want to spend some time with. Yeah, absolutely, I know. It's like it's really hard to make a game like that demo style, right, you kind of want, but so we just made it really hard. So people dialogue just like all right, just just let them know like, oh, you're probably pretty bad. Yeah, So then they're gonna then hopefully they purchase it, and then they feel like maybe I learned, maybe I got great evolved thinking about it. If you just end the demo with something says thank you for playing. Oh yeah, those guys made this for me. There just some slice of the game. They put a thing in here because thanks that's great instead of thanks for dying. Yeah, yeah, get off my game. Nice. Let someone who knows what they're doing play. Wow. Do you do professional video? That's a real Don't you let someone I'm doing. I'm the voice of Duke Nukem as Batman. My parents are dead, everybody's favorite game he just made. Yeah I think he just got rich. Thank god, I can live with George Brassard life. Finally do that voice the rest of the Okay, Wow, so you guys are showing off multiple games at the show. I'm the Headlander. Nice Psychonauts. My parents are dead. Shake it, baby, it's good. Keep going A page for shooting up my ride. Yeah, that's actually where was just sitting here talking through the whole Jenking game to himself. Yeah. No, I'm just like going through. It's just like it's just happening in my head. Now you guys are here talking. I don't know we're talking about Jenga, but I'm up here. How are your parents, by the way, they're dead. Oh god. I always asked that it was alien bastards page for shooting up my parents. It's a game. Shake it parents. So video games, Uh, you have the I'm sorry, psychonots in the Rhombus of ruin the Rhombus room in the yeah yeah reality right, yeah, have you heard about this? Like three D movies okay, plus uh choose your like you know, adventure video games. There's a goggle I think involved, but mostly it's like stops coming at you all the time. This is yeah, I try to spend virtual reality. We don't know what it is. Yeah, it's like red and green goggles. I think I saw that and that was good. Yeah, and the movie coming at you yeah, yeah, stuff, it's like that. Basically. It was like when the Kojima Twitter account put out that thing that just said I'll keep coming and I was like that hasn't yeah no, and then and then they would and show them like it's a cool game. Okay, back up, it's cool. It looks super cools, psychedeos, and it's in it's math jokes. The name like mus what what rhombus it's funny, funny shape. Yeah, and that's the funniest of shapes. Yeah. We talked about it for a long time because like decahedron is kind of funny. But like square is not what about like the trapezoid of terror that my list, But it's like you go to a places like to bringmuna triangle and like a rhombus is like tu Bermuda triangles conjoined in danger. Yeah yeah, so that's a deadly dangerous This game is in your head, is right in it, So you're just bringing the danger right to people's eyeball ye, all right, all speaking of danger. It was also played in a hot tub. I saw that first. Yeah, yeah, big E three announcement from Double five ruined hot tub players. Yeah, there were a lot of people there and no one question that happened, like no one like this, like we all started released hardware in this hot tub. That will be a problem for Sony who has to send us a replacement. Yeah yeah, and not and knowing or the part where yeah, someone might actually get hurt that being a story, right, yeah, definitely need right that would you would probably like end VR, they'd be like, well, someone tried to play in a hot tub and then they got electrocude. But there's no bad I mean, it's all good feedback and now valves under that's what happened. How did games end? Well? Wow, it all started in the hot tub, and there more video games we had. Yeah, she checked it out. I checked out a little bit of it. Yeah, got do you think pretend I'm not here? What did you think it's promising? Okay, I'm great. Great, that's all I need to hear it. That's great. Yeah, it didn't hate it yellow. So we're going warping around, doing doing stuff, doing the thing around. Do you have psychic powers? Right? It is a psych it's a psychona. Yeah. All the characters are back, all the psychonauts is the it's the he's the badass, cigar chewing shoot him up, kicked the pigs. That's the Those alien bastards are gonna pay for shooting up my mind. That there's that whole thing that's Batman's stut nwcom you're thinking of. Okay, sorry, okay, and I guess there's You're still okay, parents are alive. Okay, but he's psychic. Uh. We made a game ten years ago, ten years you're born, right, yes, when your parents are still I did not know. I didn't write the review, just getting a good game. Did you play? Yeah, this game starts right after the first game ends, so it's kind of like going back in time. So this is kind of been a bridge between this and Psychonauts two is the sort of it's a totally continuousness home break in time at all. Yeah, So, like they jump in the jet at the end of second that's one to go rescue trumans and at others I'm sorry I say second one. Woh, there's a jet. You guys deal with it. There's a jet and they jump into it. I didn't say if you win or lose, or if you're a robot, if you're a ghost, clearly the whole thing. Yeah, yeah, so you're a dream robot. It pulls out to the snow globe and it goes, you're a jet and this game starts in a jet, but you have psychic powers and you can levitate things and burn things and shoot things with your head and jump and use clairvoyance to jump around to different brains in the world. Has been uh, you know, I guess like like it seems like that's kind of a natural fit for VR in a weird way. Psychic stuff. Yeah, yeah, it's great because like there's a lot of games where you teleport to kind of a random place on the floor, but This is like you're jump into a brain, a brain and brain, and so it's and also the levitating things in front of your head is just perfect for like a little psychic little kid. And because we use your head to move things around, it really feels like your brain is controlling stuff. My brain does control stuff. Like you're like, I can wiggle my ears. He just are you doing that right now? Oh? My god? Probably really good Adjenga. Could you play a whole game Adjenga with your ears? You're wiggling your money Hansel. Yeah, actually it's it's it's like it's extra visible because of the mind. The mic really sells it. It's so hard. Wow, you could write a whole letter. Yeah, you're looking the top of your head. What what's going on? A mind control? My mind's doing this. Are gonna pay for wiggle in my ears? My bad ears on my cowl? I mean five minutes year on screen you create like ten jam like animated gifts. Probably I don't people that are super beloved, No, I just I don't have that one with the wiggling ears is gonna be That's all anything's gonna talk to mont. It's gonna be the one of those the seamless ones, like the extra special gifts. I'm not saying you're fishing for him, saying just people could just want it so bad. I don't know. I just I just work here. I'm just a humble man. His parents are dead exactly. Yeah. So I also saw a head Lander adult working with Adult Swim on that. Yeah. Yeah, well I guess actually, I mean the impression I get is that Adult Swim maybe isn't like super hands on, like we're publishing this game and we're gonna so I mean, you're working with them to get it out, but I mean they kind of come in and go like, don't Swim is this and it needs to be like this. They're kind of they've been kind of new to publishing, and I think they're kind of that new generation of publishers where they're like not kind of trying to run the whole show, but really just be a partner and really just trying to help us make the best game possibility. And they really have been great and they've you know, they still give great feedback and they enable us to make a great game, and they really support it and they're really happy with it because it looks amazing. If I Lee Petty who did this stacking? Yeah, and legend genius Man's and I said, I saw we were talking about a few weeks ago that like, I feel like I see a little bit of stacking in it, with this notion of just like hey, I'm gonna put land my head on this thing and have new abilities and you know, like like landing the head on dogs and all sorts of different no men, yeah, yeah, anything, and so it's just for for people. I's even like it. I guess there's a bit of a kind of Metroid Venia side scrolling. Yeah, we've just set in a really pre Star Wars kind of like seventies retro science fiction world logans like episode one like three Star Wars Wars Universe. Yes, yeah, it was called Star Lars stars Hit. No, it's back when like chrome and lasers were cool, you know what I mean. There's menon and like rainbows and stuff like that, and the centaurs in it, and like go, I don't know, spoiling everything, but it's like one of the first pages lead I want to make lasers cool again, you know what I mean, Like Logan's run era lasers and all these lasers bouncing around. Meanwhile, you're flying your little head around and taking off the heads of other robots and taking over their bodies. It's like an avenging spirit or geist or something like that kind old kind of concept taking on these different bodies and stuff that we are showing more of the Metroid stuff here, so we haven't shown a lot of that, but like the demo we have been showing is kind of the intro level, and now we're showing like you're in an entirely continuous connected map with a giant mini map and has the Metroid style kind of areas you can't get to until you have an upgrade, right Yeah, and then it's beautiful, like it's it's just so crisp. So it's just very very clean looking, and it's also got a great I mean, that game has an amazing story behind it too, right, Like it's it's one of those kind of like it's not somebody had a great idea and then we just went out and somebody gave us money, and then it has like a history at the studio, And I almost feel like the fact that like Lee kind of I feel like it was like Lee really wanted to get it made and you guys. You guys were like, no, this is a terrible idea. Yeah yeah, but it leaked out. Yeah, nothing we can do. No, like Lee pitched a long time. I knew I wanted to do it as soon as he pitched it. And then we even put it out for a vote once I usual Fortnite and didn't get picked on. Kay. Sometimes the internet and sometimes we all make mistakes, like this has got to be made. This game is awesome. And that's why, you know, any good reality show singing con sort of voting thing, they always give the judge that like the no, this matters, I'm my hand. Yeah, they didn't take it. But I spun around in my red chair and I had a gong. I think I said, you're going places Lye Petty, Yeah, hey kid, And then he cried and he sang one last song and it was beautiful. Confetti dropped from the ceiling. Yeah yeah yeah yeah. And then is everything here? Yeah? Everything, Avery's a really hard thing to talk about. Is everything is everything? Everything is David O Riley's everything everything is here. That game is crazy. Yes, yeah, you guys had some special announcements with that too. You guys showed like a like a huge stream of it today. We streamed it for an hour on PlayStation today. Yeah. Nice Yeah, and she had yeah, like that's the that is it probably has to now I means wish we put Shoe in super Yeah. And it was actually me being like hello, uh what can we do this? And that's the whole Like, yeah, I got like an email of a picture of Shoe giving the thumbs up. Now that's part of the platform holders like approval process, and Sony is checking all his boxes TRCs like do you have Yeah, you need to get waved like a waiver to not put him in the game, And a lot of a lot of companies go that route. You get out of like you can pass like a hundred bugs if you just put his head in, because it's just like for every like foot of shoe head you get like a hundred four bugs. You guys just went ahead. Yeah body, but at very low resolution, so it's about the same. Did you play that? What did you think of that game? I think everything is nuts in a way that I'm pretty into. It reminds me, you know, I think you draw like some comparisons to like Nobby Nobby Boy or like like that. That's sort of yeah, still very mountain, very David O'Reilly, if you know his work, I think that's kind of the easiest way to frame it. And yeah, kind of Marie, there's a little bit about that, but it's yeah, but it's it's it's its own, it's totally its thing. Yeah, yeah, it's uh, I mean, yeah, he talks about it the best, but I mean he'll say it's a kind of a consciousness simulator or kind of a universe of your own to play with little sandbox toy. But yeah, I think it's kind of his view of the world and how it's connected now works, and it's madness. I walked up to it, so it was already running when I walked up to the station. This was this was a few weeks ago in Santa Monica, and uh, it was just a traffic light and I was like, well, okay, I'm gonna pick this up and let's do this. And I'm like, okay, I'm a traffic light. Can I move? Yes, I can move. Okay, I'm a traffic light walking around this city. And then just kind of started hitting months like okay, oh all right, now I'm a building and now I'm a building walking around and yeah, man, all right, let's do okay, well, let's do this. And then you know, I spent probably twenty five minutes with it or something, just going around. And it was when I stopped playing I felt like I had seen enough and I'm like, okay, I'm gonna wait and see this when it's actually finished. When I finally got to like, I went all the way or not all the way up, but you know, became a planet for a while, went down and became sand or something for a while, trees, and and then I was a camel, and I was like, okay, let's make this camel. It's everything and be everything. I mean, it's I mean, that's the thing. This the hook is anything you can see, you can be. So there's just thousands and thousands of playable characters. But the camel. When I pushed forward to make the camel move, it just rolled over on itself instead of walking, and I'm like, well, this is fucking fantastic. That I was like, that was the moment that was like, this is this is cool? Oh wait, Okay, I'm gonna put this controller down and play this when it is finished because I don't need to see anymore. This is all right, You don't get like we don't have that many games that are kind of on the like toy side of right. You know, I don't toy. I even want to say toy because it makes it sound like I'm demeaning it or something. But like it's more about playing, like literal play than it was about, uh, you know, going through a narrative or yeah, having something like the emotional kind of like investment that I have in rolling around as a camel is very different than the emotion little investment I have is like Nathan Drake having a conversation with his wife, right, but they're both equally valid. They're both like like we can we can play this, but I'm telling you like you can meet in the middle on that, Like if Nathan Drake just rolled over, so that should be yea yeah. Now I'm super excited about people like David who are from outside the game industry, coming from world of animation, coming in and just bringing crazy ideas that I don't think any of us are. Any other game developer right now would try to make no yeah and making it from the single I mean you talk about yeah, the things that are like maybe a little more toy like and stuff like that. Like sometimes that's well, I don't know, sometimes that's a hard thing to convey to people without them coming away from it going like well why would I pay money for you know, or like like starting to get into these weird value propositions and stuff like that. Yeah. I mean I've played that game hours and hours now, and I still find new things and new situations every time I play. It's super procedural, so there's this whole thought system where everything can talk, everything can dance, everything can make babies, and you'll just see some weird moment that pops up that you've never seen that super poign yet, like all of a sudden, and it's it's it's cool. It's a game. Yeah, it's a big ideas BASSI and you guys have have noog. Your guys are showing no which is one of the most like singular artistic vision, Like it's the most like this is the art style of this game, and it is unlike anything else. And I've never I've never played a game that was such a singular artistic vision, like from the art direction side, it's the it's one of the best most interesting looking things since for me, hokum, that was like the last time that I was like, oh, yes, that is somebody making their art in a game, and it's also ridiculously fun. It's similar to hook them too. Yeah, I mean I think I feel like there's like that kind of you know, Kata and Ricky and Dick and David and the all of the co op guys. They're all kind of playing in a different space than a lot of other folks are playing. And then I fucking love it. Yeah, I think it's so cool. So if you had time to get around the show and see stuff, are you kind of just like standing there below watch people die. O. Fortunately, Christian, our QA lead and designer is here doing that for me. Awesome. So I went and played Zelda some. I think it's pretty I felt pretty cool because I was like, oh, hey, there's like they're thinking about stuff kind of like we were thinking about. So there's some parts of Zelda and the stuff pot, some stuff in the pot like stay warm tree, yeah, some fruit, and then the branch. Yeah we have branches, yeah, branches. Yeah. So you're saying they stole the branch thing from you guys, That's what I'm hearing. Yeah, basically the holes all of youre saying, Nintendo was frouds. That's what That's what I want to play. Version of below Branch Games play like we've written the book on that. No. I played that. I really enjoyed it. It's a very different I found it a very different feeling than I usually got from Zelda. And then I went and saw The Mafia three kind of like video theater experience. That is a ginormous video game. I am terrified by it. Yeah. So it's so like it's like they show you the map and then the map still keeps going, and then it's going even more, and then you're in the bayou, and then there's more past the bayou, and I was I think it's a really ballsy video game. I think they took a lot of risks that I don't really understand why you would do it, because there's always the safe play, you know. I think it could be so much safer you think about, like like with a publisher like that. I totally thought about it, like, oh my god, yeah, let's think about Italians again. Board Mafia times cools. The way that they're approaching it is super genuine. They're trying their best to be as like authentic as possible in a semi fictional world. I'm I'm all about that. Try to push it, try to do some weird ballsy shit and see what happens. Very few people are doing it, and I have a lot of respect for them for for real, like that's a I mean doing it at that scale and not like hundreds of hundreds of millions of dollars. Yeah, respect, I have a lot of respect for them for that. And then you guys, are you kind of like stuck to stations or just talking to talking to folks. These guys are stuck to the airb and behind. So we've been checking against Zelda also, Got a War was the other one for me that just blew me away similar reasons. I think it's the ballsyes game. I mean, to go and change the camera like that and to throw old man Kratos at you. There's just so many big new changes in it, and it feels like they totally pull it off and it looks and it feels like everything Like I've never been a God of War fan, you know, really, so kind of hearing that like God of War was coming along. Yeah, I just it just never it's like this is like technically super impressive, and wow, Credos looks really big and cool and really mad. Just the game itself never really did anything for me, So I was coming into it like we were kind of we kind of figured there was gonna be a God of War game here, and I was just like fucking great, Like, yeah, another God of War game, that's what we need. And then they started like, oh shit, no, this is like they're taking a lot of elements from a lot of from other games and kind of making this bigger thing. Uh and it just, uh, it looked immediately appealing. And that's weird because I'm someone who just I think the Creatos character is fucking lame. Yeah, so it was just like seeing seeing like okay, no, no, Creatos put a beard on that guy I'm in. Yeah. I mean those games are always beautiful and they always had a really great giant set piece and moments, and it was nice to see how all of that totally transitioned into this game, even though it's really different a lot of ways. Yeah. I had a nice soundtrack with a love of orchestra. That was that was Yeah, that was Yeah, they're shipping out with the game. It's gonna be crazy. I don't know where I'm gonna put like finding spot for my vibe, and now I have to find a spot for this fucking orchestra, like really like the biggest box in video game because yeah, well you know, Stave a lot of like it's a lot of the old God of War team is still there or is back, and they have I think they have some of the best like combat designers in video games. Like there's something about those games that really just clicked. And I'm really excited to see how that with camera angle change, with kind of a lot of very clear design changes, how that translative changes. Yeah. Right, Also see a Thieves look was was totally completely like the way that Microsoft showed her to the press conference was like, here's a whole bunch of CG stuff that I don't like. I like the character design, but I know what I'm sure. And then the gameplay stuff was like, Okay, I was not really a big fan of like the like people playing laughing when they're climbing a ladder, like it's the funniest ladder of all nuts, but it's actually seemed really awesome. And then I sat, I just sat there and watched a whole bunch of people play it for like a really long time, and there was like stupid shitting grinds across everyone's faces. Yeah, I was taking a look at it on money. We were going to try and get in and play it tomorrow, but like watching some other people play it and just seeing like someone's just got to squeeze, like first person squeezebox, first person will the job during the battle, it's just play. It's I have no get depressed. That's the thing, you know, Like I understand that. But then I just saw people running in circles and acting crazy and drinking and doing all and I'm like, drop big anchors in the middle of the sailing. Yeah, I'm not one hundred percent sure what this game is, but I'm one hundred percent sure that I want to see more. I call that co op stuff too, that they're doing. The fact that like I got to pull the rope to lower the sails, and Nathan's up in the crow's nest and like we're all kind of working together just the whole time. It just means below patching. I think I saw just patching holes. Sometimes you just worry that as soon as you like get strangers into that thing. It's just like, well, we're never moving. It's gonna be it's gonna be the troll list, Like, there's gonna be so much trolling. And I also think that's pretty awesome. That's that's another draw that right. Yeah, parts are real give that's why they're pirates. Yeah. Yeah, you play it with your good pirate buddies. Yeah no, you look like you're tight, super tight pirate bro Yeah. Yeah, no. We download games all the time. It's sick. We got all these zero days. It's awesome. Are all right you guys? I want top to your Jenga strats. I want to close it out really here about I want to talk about the jiggle. It's a really underrated move. Might only be possible with the big sets. Which are you take all that kind of that, John Drake, Yeah, wiggles, that's what I was doing. I don't know what God was doing, but Greg was going you you were feel it right? Yeah, he's just gotta feel it. I don't know. I mean, he's gotta be like and everything. He's gotta be the Jinga block and then dance it out of there. I believe it. Yeah, I've never seen a game like that. I played a lot of Jinga, but I think I might have thought we just quit, but I should not quit. There was not one more tile to pull, like for the record books. That was that was That was the time full draw. Impossible to do a single move at that point, an actual stalemate like, never seen it. Yeah, man, I actually don't think that. I haven't. I've actually seen that. Ye have they Have they knocked it down in there yet? Have they fucked up and knocked over? The janga is still standing? Do you get? Is that how we're gonna end this? But my beer on top of it as I walk out, That's how it has to go now. It's like they were eating chips out of it earlier, like I don't know again, basking in the glory. All right, Well we're gonna I will go take a look at this Jenka tower firsthand. Thank you so much for coming by. Thanks for having us, Greg, Nathan, Tim. Always a pleasure to see the three of you and see together. We've really just been hanging out all week, so yeah, trying to get together. It's actually like not at all an exaggeration. I have not been doing much. I've been hanging out. I mean, you've got an airbnb with a hot tub in it? Why are you even why are you even here? Now we're out of here. Stand up, basse, it's got wooden swords. It's a fucking weird because a bike in a tree somewhere, sorry a tree. It doesn't. You need to let me know where this place is and maybe we'll just do our show out of there next totally sh it is a rat. We'll rent it out, Okay, sub let your airbnb totally legal. The landlord does live there and is hanging out with us, and he'd be totally Thanks so much for coming through. We are going to turn it around now and get some more guests on this show. How do your parents from me? My parents are dead? Those alien best shake it. Those are the only lines I can remember from the game shooting Down. I'm gonna shot down your your eye ducks, those alien bestards are gonna pay for shooting up my everything. David oh Rutton if David o' riley's every thing, No, I don't know. This is like slipping into some like pseudo Keith. David. Now come back to other side the west lord, Oh boy, hello, and hi and Welcome back, Johan Bombs E three, twenty sixteen coverage continues. Day two is still trucking on. I'm joined my new set of guests here on the couch. We got Rich from the Tan Gentleman down there in the end. How's it going good? Hey? You doing? I'm doing really well, all right, announcing new software here and and showing it off absolutely. We just announced here They Lie, which is a VR game, sony VR lunch title. Awesome kind of existential horror, psychedelic horror. All right. We've got John from Atlas here. How's it going good? Really good? We got some questions for you these video games. Please know that you will put out, Please know, and we we'll get to that. Okay. Kara Ellison is here with us. Hello. You've been acting in a narrative fashion right around the video game business. Yes, that's right. The way to sum it up that I that is, Yes, I've been doing the words as usual for everyone, which is great. But yeah, like I was here seeing the Dishonor to Reveal, which I worked on a while ago, and that was like super exciting for me to see because like I haven't seen the game in a while, and your Emily's all there like killing some dudes and it's all fancy and there's clockwork people that kind of thing. So yeah, it's been good. Cool, So let's get into it. So you you spend some time with that game, but you're not like on it anyway. You you kind of come in, do a thing, and move on. So I'm kind of like, you know, you know when someone is like really you know, like you know someone in a movie, they're like they're kind of in trouble and like there's like a kind of urgency like device that they like, you know, like like a parachute or whatever, and like, you know, I'm I'm kind of like that emergency extra device that you bring in because you're like, oh, like we need to do an extra thing. I'm that person. I kind of turned up and was like, oh, I'll do a thing and then like and then just and as soon as I'd finished it, I was gone from the office and they couldn't tell where I was anymore, and they were like, oh, is she gone? And then like I was, you know, as if I'd never been there. It was like a ninja writer. And so yeah, only pictures leave only footprints exactly exactly. So yeah, I know, I had a good time working there under Harvey Smith, who is like one of the geniuses of our industry, and I thort thoroughly believe he's making a really amazing game. So yeah, like I just I love how complex his worlds are, and like I love how you know, like this new world Kanaka is like a it's like a Mediterranean type place, so it's kind of different from the sort of dingy dunwall kind of thing we're used to and Dishonored the original, So yeah, I know, it's it's really cool. We have blood flies for sure, all like these creepy gross yeah, little things gross. Some parts of the parts of that trailer, parts of that reveal is like, oh yeah, and they make these little nests. Yeah, there's kind of still powered by whale. Yes, there's still whales. I don't know if they're putting this in or not, but like I'm obsessed with the whale thing. And so I was like it was so amazing Dishonored one. I love that and Hart and I was like, Harve, you can we pat the whales? Like I was like, can we pat the whales? I want to pat the whales? Is there a pet the way? Why can we not pat the whales? So I don't know, like if that's you know, it's probably everyone's ignored that, but I I that's what I want from the crazy lady to want of the whale patting still around. Yeah, it's the crazy like wille putting ladies still here. No, Okay, I'm so glad because we're not going to do that. What a crazy lady. But basically, I am very excited about it because I've seen the scripts and it's wonderful. So yes, I I'm definitely recommending that as your as your thing to look forward to. It's very it's a big world, and there are lots of characters who you don't know anything about. They are very exciting, cool cool now rich First person horror VR it seems like something that you know. It seems like there are a number of people trying this sort of thing, and I guess I understand why. I mean VR being so immersive, It seems like there are new opportunities to freak people out. You talk about being a psychedelic horror. That seems like maybe a new way to freak people out. Definitely, it was it's definitely kind of what we started out to do. We knew we wanted to do horror. We knew that we wanted something visceral and kind of got an emotional grab off of you, But we also knew we didn't want to do something that was kind of a standard horror story at all. I really like the more psychedelic qualities that you can bring into games and creating a realistic world but then kind of twisting it and twisting the players expectations and that that helps you keep you on the edge throughout, Like once you kind of understand the scope of the thing, it kind of reduces it somewhat. You know, it's like, oh, there's always just gonna be zombies coming after me and I have to deal with that, and that's scary, But it's the kind of more love crafty and like fear of the unknown, not knowing what it is you're afraid of in a given moment. That is what we're grabbing at, like the Silent Hill method. Yeah, yeah, absolutely, those guys are great for that. You know, there's a there's a kind of what the fuck quality to everything that they it's not. It's never like just straight with those guys and that's that's definitely something we're grabbing at as well. Yeah, John, how much Person of five have you played? To tell me all about it? Like you have you finished the game? How much of the story you know? Can you tell me about the story? What's going on? I've beaten a game plus fight now we we we just showed the first I think it tallies almost nine minutes of gameplay footage at E three. So yeah, hopefully you guys have seen that. I have not. I have not seen it yet. I know no. I walked past the booth and there was an autograph session going on. It was just bananas there today. Crazy. Can you describe in great detail the trailer, like every second, not every frame? I want to hear about it. I could, I really could? Do? You know it starts? Do you know it? Can? You can? You could do? She? I have this. I have this pained feeling for cha. She was my best girl for the longest time, but then I realized that the one true best girls resay, please please don't hit me, Please don't hate me. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. Oh my god, Well don't make that. That's gonna do it. I'll just show myself out. I'm so sorry. No, Persona five has been awesome. You know, the gameplay is highly stylized. It's it's still from I assume, very early in the game because traditionally most the Persona games start at the beginning of the Japanese school year, which is early April, and game the demophotice showing is from April like eighteenth. Okay, yeah, so early stuff. But there's so like Tokyo, such a vibrant play in Persona five. Now, yeah, we are in the sticks with Inaba and it's you know, those were country people definitely, Now we're in Tokyo. Tokyo is like the biggest plant one of the lost. Yeah, there's just there's people everywhere. We're seeing this run on like next gen hardware. The last time we saw the last time we truly saw a number of Persona games running on PS two hardware, right, so like it seemed like we were gonna get there on well, I guess this is coming to PS three as well. But but yeah, so we still have our love for the PS three there. So there's some nasty Internet rumors about Persona three or Percenta five being canceled for the PS three, but that's not true. It's still coming for the PS three making those nasty rumors. We should shut them down the internet. We should shut down the internet. Yeah, totally. I could not agree more. Please still hurt me and turn this thing off. That you're done here, it's tend to wrap it up the true first person horror, just talking to people Tokyo's. Tokyo is an amazing place, and I think what the developers were really going forward is to capture that, you know, the day field of being in fifty people are yelling every single day. You can you can work in a convenient store that is legally different than a convenient store that you may know of you. I have no idea if there's a mini games, like if you have to press a button to shouts at people when you walk in Okay. I really hope there is. I don't know if there is or nothing like Sean Sean, but just with yeah three times the wrong time that like you gotta go wrap it up, sorry, you're fired, Yeah, to get out, get out. No. I'm like everything about the every day Japanese life is in there, and then it's functuated by going into these other world palaces and kicking the shit out of Persona or Shadows, right. Yeah, yeah, that sounds pretty good to me. It sounds amazing. Yeah, and there's there there's so much style in the game. It pains me how stylized that game is. Yeah, it's seeing all the footage like that that first reveal. I remember staying up, uh like the big countdown. Yeah, a long time ago, November, that's the one I was there. I was awake, yeah, like just sitting there just like half like almost also even can see this thing. Everyone is still up in arms over like Persona four dancing all night and Persona cue what is this nonsense? Get this out of here. But those games turned up to be pretty great. Yeah. No, I was watching that going like yeah, okay, yeah that's fine too. I'm okay seeing this, yeah bring that, bring that on too. But then there's the percenta five reveal and you're just like, yeah, so that's uh. What is the relationship like with you know, you being the US Office. I know that there are a lot of US arms of Japanese companies work a lot a lot differently and stuff like that, but like, you know, are you are people in the US Office kind of give feedback on the game as it gets localized, or is it kind of like they have a vision they're sticking to it and kind of handing you this and going like this is what we're making. It's kind of case by case. I mean, Karen knows. There's when you're when you're writing for something and even though it's already written in Japanese, when you're translating and localizing into English, there's always challenges to pop up persona que had some where It's like, Okay, you're not going to understand this puzzle unless you actually are fluent in Japanese. And most Americans are not fluent in Japanese, true, so you have to change it. Yeah, and Japanese people are so in love with puns that you know that we are in Japanese and you're like, okay, so how am I going to translate this? It's difficult. I pullar back cafe works, you know, you can kind of figure it out. Every every single person in our office that works in like localization and editing is a pun master, and it is the most annoying thing of all time. I love you guys, I really do, but I swear to God if I get one more pun laden haiku on Thursday about leaving computers on I'm going to lose it, but no, no, no, yeah, like yeah, sometimes we have to give feedback like hey, I don't know if specific examples of where like hey, you need to change this game play right right right? I feel like it's happened before. Someone on the internet already knows and they're like, oh, yeah, John, you forgot about this. But yeah, you know, we definitely have to make localization decisions, and you know, we have a really good team at Alice USA. Yeah. I just thought that, you know, Persona four just really was still able to evoke a lot of great stuff from Japanese culture and really kind of like convey subjects that were like maybe a little hard to wrap your mind around unless you just like spend a lot of time with anime and a lot of other stuff. But I think it did it did it so well. I think that's one of like the endearing legacies of the Persona forecast and why they've been around since two thousand and eight with Golden and all the other spinoffs. It just it was that first like not quite mainstream, but all this mainstream hit where the characters just had this really strong universal appeal kind of across the board, and everyone that's played percent of four has their own favorite wife woos It just happens. Minds, we say yours is GA. I don't know what you're talking about. No idea whales rich, no idea whale whale wife who is always best watching? Can you pat wheels in this game? There's the whales, there's there's a bit with Hanako. Actually, yeah, that was that was awful. I'm gonna is there any you're thinking about doing any whale petting in VR? Is that everything's on the table absolutely could be our own, right, let's not be your own. It's gonna be PS four releases. Well I should say that so people don't get nice. But I mean, you know, good pet whales and cross platform opportunities there. I hope some exact somewhere is just like hurrdly writing time Wheels. Within the next three months we're going to see a press release and one of the features is going to be cross platform whale pettings. The games on green Light right now. It just happened. It happened like one time I was like up really late and probably like having some wine or whatever. And I was on Twitter and I was like, you don't would be really great is like have a game where you're the janitor on the Nestromo and you're like, what the heck is happening here? There's blood trails. Muggins here has to keep cleaning his crap up. Angry memo to all ships tells, please stop leaving the alien acid burns in the floors. You will cause explosive decompression with the crap has like just put a whole head in the toilet. I mean, come on, But it's like, I don't know. And I wrote this time and like maybe a week later this or a cleanup simulator was there and I was like, godd Internet, you were fast. So yeah, credit where and they should have credited me for that ship. I am a bastard, I yeah, a real led to swear. Yeah, oh that's good. I sliped dick on the bullard Yeah yeah, I thought though it was a fish. Yeah, Cliff, a fish on the board. You so Richie. You spent some time working on the Call of Duty franchise. Yeah, so I started on Call of Duty two and then onto Modern Warfare. Modern Warfare two, so doing a response, doing art for those games. What's it I imagine? Is it weird seeing this like Modern Warfare Remastered and kind of seeing that and I'm like, wow, well that that that part I really liked. I'd say, of all the new Call of Duties, the one that was the Modern Warfare Remastered is the one that's most interesting to me. Sure. Yeah, we're hearing that a lot. Yeah. I mean I just ran into my buddy Moe, who did the I'll get Lead Up level and Call of d two, and I mean people just are always telling me that that's there, you know, the quintessential level of you know, first person shooters and stuff. So it's great to see that getting the remaster treatment. Yeah, I'm really excited about that. Yeah. Same here. I didn't think that I would be, but but it's it sticks out, you know, it does it. It's got a mood, and it's it differentiates itself from what comes before and what comes after. And I think that's what the kind of Golden Age Infinity Word was so good at was basically getting the pacing just right so that you felt like you're getting variety and all and really immersed in the experience. Yeah, I get you know, and and I guess you know, like immersion is so key to horror. Yes, that's that's why. That's one of the reasons horror is such a natural is because to be afraid, you need to feel like you're in a place of fear, and you can definitely convey that on a screen. When you can put the VR helmet on, you are just there, and so we can control that that thereness, that kind of aggregate sensory input that creates a sense of place and it becomes something that in the real world is concrete. In VR, it's something plastic, and it's something that the designers can play with and and and twist the player's experience in a way that kind of throws them for a loop. Yeah, was it was it shocking in a way to see Resident Evil seven come along and be like, oh man, I was like, everyone's getting in on this VR horror thing. Like you guys annouced a couple of weeks ago, right, Yeah, actually we announced yesterday. Sorry, yeah, okay, thank you so much. We brought our teaser out and that was the first time we've announced anything at all. So right, the last two years we've been you know, flying dark with the company and everything, and so it's so relieving to to be on the other side of that and be starting to get feedback from people on the floor, feedback on the teaser trailer released, and it's just been really invigorating that we just now we just have to crank on it and get her done. Just that weight off your chest. It is. It is like it once it's out there, it's like, all right, we can relaxe. We're gonna leak this thing. Okay, we good at keeping secrets. So it's it's like always like a test to make sure that, like should I be saying anything right now? I am glad to be on the other side of that. Yeah, I am the literal worst about secrets. Good to know and yeah, like I'm NPR secrets to be my job, but I'm the worst. Yeah. And you're working on you know, like your company is putting out a project that people are trying would would beat people up for more information on. Yeah, So there's people waiting for me in the parking lot right now. They're gonna be like, you don't give us this pacified tell us everything else? Do you have a build on you? Like, what's up? What's up? Do you want Yeah, sure, yeah, all right, yeah, why not, I gotta we gotta debug around here somewhere. Let's just get it going sweep. Yeah, I actually yes, please, so I with Yeah, you were saying that like Persona four was maybe like not quite like this big mainstream thing, but like cult grew by leaps and bounds over like since in the years following that game's release, Like, Persona has always been that series. You know, Final Fantasy is kind of that you know, everyone knows it. Yeah, it's it's it's a It's still the Madden Football of Japanese rugs. You could say it. You can say it. It's the most generic thing that Nope, at least don't. But yeah, you know, Persona's it's kind of been steadily growing. It's always been that franchise that some you know say, oh yeah, I worked for Atlas. You know, we we have the Persona games and like Persona Oh right, I have a friend that's like super into that game but they've never played it. And Percenta five is the one that's people are like, oh yeah, I saw that game. Yeah. It feels like this is like the breakthrough moment. I mean, you know, the dancing game and I saw the other the fighting games and stuff like really kind of helping get that out there to more people that might not have played the RPG. And now like, maybe it's because we house a lot of people that like that game on our message boards and sometimes people ask me questions about our coverage plans for Persona games and stuff like that, Why haven't gone to Atlas and just beating John with the baseball bat to get more PERCENTA five stuff? Yeah, so I'm I've got this bat and we're going to because you've demanded it. Here we go, not akin, but it just it really feels like there is this like fevered pitch around this game in a way that I mean, as you know, I reviewed the original. I reviewed Persona one. You know I played You're You're Your percent of four play through is legendary. You know, our office loves it, and Charlie Tanoku lives it. Does he really? Are you announcing something about Persona five? No? I seriously hope that when Persenta five comes out, we're going to see the return of Charlie Tenoku. I don't I don't know if you're if you're married to the name, if it has to be a different it's I mean, that's a that's a question for Vinny. Honestly, we'll see you when the time when when the time comes, we'll see yeah, yes, yeah, Charlie took two point oh wow. Oh man, oh man. All right, we'll see, we'll see, we'll see, we'll see Kara. So has it been you know, like being kind of an external you know, I guess contributor to a lot of games and stuff like that. Does it is it like this feeling of like you kind of constantly happen to hustle to like get in at different studios and do the stuff or why kind of once you've done some of it, people know you're out there. You can be this writing strike force to come in and do this stuff. Right. Well, I mean it depends like like how long the contracts are, because like some of them are like a year long, some of them are like two years, three years, some of them are like two weeks long, and so people just kind of it depends what people really need. But yeah, I've got a couple of like unnized projects happening that are just like really really different from each other. And sometimes people will ask you to come in and do like consultation like basically like reading through what they've got or like playing a build and going is any good? Are Like? It would be like more like a kind of like scripting job, so you'll like get your final draft and you'll be like okay, you know so yeah. It can really really vary, and it just varies from project to project, and it really depends on like the studio as well, because it depends whether they like really narrative led stuff where the narrative is like the first most important thing and then the signers will come in after. Are what What's more common is like the designers have already decided what they want to make and they just want someone who's not going to be uh, you know, bad at words. You yeah, like we've got these uh like weird uh like you know this, we have this whale passing simulator, which is how I need to And you're just like, I've got forty pages on this written this already. I've got this game up here right here for you right there. You know, like they make this. You know, whales are cute, They're really cute. I'm just saying you should put more whales in your game. How often do you have to deal with the phrase LUDA narrative dissonance not pretty often because you don't really tend to. We mainly mainly call it bad writing. I can respect that, I can respect that, but I mean you can be forced into a situation where you are really forced to justify something really absurd happening in a narrative and place it's too late to take this out so right, and you're just kind of like, I mean, imagine like if you imagine, imagine for a second if you had to be the writer on Deadly Premonition and you looked at the levels to stay from each other and you were like looking at this thing and going okay, and they're like, so it's a murder mystery, go you know, like what would you do? And I feel like that's often I think what risers are asked to do is to sew together this like absurd thing. And I yeah, And I've talked to a lot of people now who are risers in the industry who give me a lot of really good advice, and they're always like, yeah, sometimes you get yeah, They're like sometimes you get these products projects where you're just kind of like, uh, you know, I there's very little you can do to save it, basically, and I'm trying to listen and kind of learn a little bit more about it. But yeah, like it's it's actually like, so far, I've got some like really cool projects, so I've been super lucky. But yeah, I mean in a year or two you'll probably see all of these come out, and then you'll be able to judge for yourself whether you like the whale passing simulator. Yes, all right, good Den, Oh my god, I totally forgot. Yes, I brought food for us. I was I was really unsure about etiquette. This is my first time on a giant bomb. Yeah, guest, thank you for having me. Yeah, anytime. So I brought it's my E three vice and it's hanging out back here. You mentioned pinks earlier, and he made a face. I did, pinks is the literal worst the literal word. Well, well you get into that. Rich. Have you been tethered to like a booth the whole show? Wow? Who have you gotten around? I brought enough to show I got to walk around a little bit. Are you kind of getting tagged out of the boots? But mostly yeah, it's been doing kind of journalists played throughs of the game. Thank you, it's very nice of you. And has it been fun like now that you're out there announced, like seeing people play through the game, are you learning a lot? Like like, are you just filled with changes? Or is it just like all right, good, Okay. We were cranking on the demo leading up to E three and making sure that it was working how we wanted it to. But in the process of doing that, you end up working on a small section of the game to the point where it kind of deadens you to the experience. You know, you're just like, it's all mechanics and did this fire right? And so on? So to be able to get it out in front of the public and see the reactions to people. I hadn't worked on a horror game prior to this one, and I didn't realize that the joy of making horror games is getting someone to freak the fuck out. And in VR you really do. Like one guy like fell backwards in his chair. There's just like some people just shout. They're just shouting. They kind of have the headphones on and they don't recognize that they're in a room full of people. And it's great and it's so satisfying people in VR horror getting like legit like fall over. Oh my god, it is true. Yeah, yeah, exactly, there is a bit off this d Yeah. I think that we're saying about, like like horror games in particular as opposed to horror movies is the fact that you like, you know that it's you making the choices and not some far off person on this you could always shout at the person not to go down the stairs. Why are you going up the stairs? You crazy person? And then you know, like with with with video games, you're like, oh my god, I'm going up the stairs. Why am I doing this? You know, I'm like, it's you. Your choice is actually part of the horror because you know that you're being forced to this, right and so yeah, But I mean what's interesting to me is when you're making like VR horror, like, part of the for me, part of the fear for in particular with Resident Evil games comes from the fact that it's always been i mean, the original the original games, it was quite difficult, difficult to control with your character, and you know, like you know, Jill Valentine had like you know, she aimed like at a ceiling, which was silly, Unlike that you're in front of her and then at her feet, and these were the three positions she aimed at, and you're like, only one of those is useful too, I mean, why is this so? And it's really interesting you know to kind of like parse that like when you're playing, because it's it's essentially like part of the fear comes from you're You're like, Okay, if something bad happens to me, she's going to be pointing at her. Yeah, the controls are like, man, I'm just playing. Yeah, so you don't And so is it do you take that to kind of or is it? Is it more because VR is it's very much like the person is. You know, like you have to make it very very easy for the camera to look everywhere because it's attached to someone. Is that something you have to well, camera control is definitely something that you have to be very careful within the VR. What we've discovered is basically you never want to rotate the camera outside of what the player is doing with their head because it feels like the whole world just went like that when it happened. So and then some games have had that, like, you know, if they do need you to be able to turn like that, they'll have the right stick turn at a fixed radius. Cuts. Cuts are very effective, and a lot of kind of motion models basically use cuts as the way they do. The weird thing for me is that that stuff is never fast enough right, And I find myself going like, actually, I just want the right stick. Like the few games that allow you kind of turn off like comfort mode or whatever. Like for as wrong as it sometimes feels, it feels like a better gameplay experience, and I'm able to like, you know, my body has been able to withstand that, and yeah, I guess it's you know, everyone's gonna be different with that stuff. Yeah, and games are different in that regard, And I mean it kind of that kind of stuffils down to the motion model you've constructed for the game and then and fictionalizing that and how well that works. We worked for some time getting our motion model locked in and now we're really happy with it, and it feels super natural, or it feels super and natural, and like you just you quickly lose the artifice of the of the controller altogether. And that's really what you want to VR. You don't want anything tethering you to the real world. You want to feel as if you're simply there and experiencing what you're seeing. So there's no like sluggishness of movement or an a thing. No, No, I definitely not. It feels it feels accurate. I guess it's like we're just trying to simulate what the player would want to be doing at at within the game so they feel the most attached to the world. That. Yeah, I am the biggest winning when it comes to horror. Yeah, yeah, me too. Like middle school event, Horizon came one that was scary. I have since that. I have Nope, the fuck right out of the hole. It's just all done with that. I mean, well, I mean we're here, you saw the best, so why well I see anything else. I played through that Alien Isolation ripley DLC, and I absolutely like what myself is so scared? I was so scared greened like constant Alien. I was like, yeah, and it was really scary. I mean, like, are there monster there monsters? Well, I don't want to give too much away, it definitely is. There are monsters of a type, no question, Okay, and this man the real monster, Well, that was the question is always. I just came up with that idea for the first time that some of we could kind of combine the two ideas. Uh, you know, we were looking when we think of horror at ten gentlemen, we're more talking about kind of kubrick you know, that kind of horror where it's as much about kind of creating a sense of dread and impending doom as well as legitimate, legitimate kind of physical horror. It's we wanted to kind of move into another direction as well, because it can get a little simple if it's just being afraid of something jumping out and getting you all the time. Yeah, and so we I don't know if you guys saw Under the Skin, it was a kind of little touchstone for us. Beyond the Black Rainbow was a kind of indie horror film that came out I don't know, of the early aughts maybe, and that one was just a huge amount of style and it was psychedelic horror. That's kind of what our vibe is. So there's more that we're aiming for than just the kind of the jump scare cool. So under the Skin like the Scarlett Johnson, Yeah, that's the Scarlet Johannson. You took tips from that. That's that's amazing. That had mood coming out. Yeah, I mean a lot of it is just like Scarlett Johnsen trawling the Glasgow street. Well, that actually is what our game is too. That's my life to it, so you know, yeah, yeah, absolutely, the Glasgow part or the all of it, all of it. Absolutely. I'm kind of upset that you didn't use I know who killed me as inspiration. I know who killed me? Yeah, the Lindsay Lohan. I don't know if I saw that one. I must be this that's real horror. That is really it sounds incredibly impactful. So john have you been tethered to the booth the entire time? Absolutely? Always? This is my breakfast. Yeah, that's sorry for just three This is this is amazing. Thanks. I'm glad you enjoy it. I'm gonna when we when we wrap up here between segments, I'm gonna immediately devour all of it. Yeah, I just don't want to be munching down. You did it very effectively, seriously and looking looking look how much grease it left on this table. I mean that is something that you know, something you need in your body right now? And care have you been getting around seeing more stuff at the show. I don't think too much, but you know, like I'm so I'm so excited for that one, Like, uh, what does it call it? It's called like it's the England, the British one with the masks we have you. I saw that and I was like, oh my god, Yeah, that that that kind of vibe. That really looked like the kind of game that I'd be super into. I'm worried like the whole like, don't take your medication, yeah, I mean the best it's part like yeah, Brave New World. Yeah, you know, you don't need to take your little film of vacations, right, like you know, scrumental table, a little bit of brain candy Brain, there you go, candy, right. But it looks very very creepy, and but most of all, I think it's very very original, which I think kind of in general video games kind of lax. We cand of cannibalize our own systems a lot, and like, oh, I want to make this thing that I played when I was younger, and that's cool. But I think maybe we can kind of do with a little bit more of that thinking outside of the scope of video games and kind of the broader media, you know, of film and literature and stuff is always great. I mean, so many more examples of different things that have been tried outside of games. And it's a selfish thing for me, because you know, if you're right or you want to be able to work on something that is like slightly different than we've seen before, just because it's more interesting we're making it. It's like a blade Runner, can you do like a blade Runner and sort of thing we're doing like a blade Runner kind of thing. I don't know, right ta, And it's like got guns and you're like thinking, oh my god, how many other ways can I think of justifying this? But I mean, apart from that, like, I think it's just really exciting looking and just really different and you know, you know, we always need more English bad guys. So that's that's great. But yeah, and then I saw Dad of War, so that's good. I really look forward to sing Kreatos, teach Ellie how to whistle Dad's dutting dutting off forward dutting stuff. And what else was there that I saw that? Oh my was that pirate thing? Yeah? That's so good looking. Yeah, that's definitely that game keeps coming up, you know, kind of brings people in. Everyone's just like, yeah, I do not have eight friends that I would trust to be part of my pirates, So it's it's four though, well I don't know whether it's four. Yeah, four be four pirate fun. The cannons and shooting went to the back of I'm sorry, no one's shooting. We got sunk again. Yeah, yeah, the crow's mess. Look the crow's mess. Hey, that looks cool over there. Jumped off the ship. I don't know getting murdered by cannonballs at the same time, but this light one looks great. I know there's at least one of my friends is going to be a backstopping motherfucker and let them in, and then I'm gonna never speak to them again. It's going to create a huge drift amongst everyone. And then years later we're gonna have to meet up and be like, have a very solemn meeting. A look, I forgive you for the thing you did. Right, See, if the Pirates game was sacred to us, let's be real, we need a hook add on for that. There. It's like, you screwed up. You screwed that fight up so bad. You're going in the blue box. Yeah, right now, the boot box. Yeah, I mean, you know, it's a loot game, so maybe you just mind better hooks as you go. It's like, well this is this is a yellow hook. It's when this is one's way better than this one. We got a legendary hook now, so it's plus five. It's drunkenness. People are trying to just like two peg legs, two hooks, like two eye patches, and they're just it's like, this is just really ripping it up. Three parrots outstanding. Well, thank you all for coming through. Thanks, thanks, has been wonderful. Please poison your bodies with I'm definitely gonna challenge it's all I know. All I know is chili, cheese, hot dog burritos. Now this is you forgot I was sorry stra of course, yeah, who could forget? Oh boy, well, I'll probably be asleep for the next segment if I try to eat this. So come back and watch me snooze for the final segment of the night We'll be back momentarily. Rap guns. Folks at home, It's time for the last segment of the evening. I'm Jeff Gersman. This is Giant Bombs ongoing Nightmare. I'm joined by the last employed game journalists on the planet. Uh, this is all that's left YouTube. You did it. We got Chris Plant from the Verge. Here are you doing. I'm doing great, I mean still getting paid. Yeah, the checks are clearing. Griffin McRoy, you've got your podcast parachute. You're set. Yeah, this is I'm announcing my retirement at the end of the stream. So okay, okay, great, Yeah, I'm really looking forward to it. Yeah, uh no, really looking Okay, this got real very quickly. We got Ziff Davis's Patrick Kleppick, welcome back to the fold, taking care of Papa. Is it wants your back? Buddy? Is this going to buy lunch? He just I hear there are lots of good vines in San Francisco, just like those ship game spots. Mary kisses here, CBS Interactive. That's right, Yeah, welcome. I brought our Danny. Yeah, and I can't trust for an interview. He has made the transition to biz dev since the course of the day. Very nice wheeling and dealing out there. I kind of tell you the amount of times I heard the word analytics up on the roof of this building. Yes, those don't the game spot parties happening on the roof top of the building right now, mostly people I've never seen. No, of course, Yeah, it's you are in the position. You've made it to that awesome spot that I was in telling you earlier. You know, the E three party is a long standing tradition where the sales team talks to clients about whatever the fuck it is they do. Are they bring the money they keep us all employed? Are they interested in buying a company? Not really, No, he's trying to own it now some companies h and what and they used to There was a chunk of time where they forced me to go to this thing, which right I didn't wear a fucking suit for This is a fourth year I've been invited. I just turned up this year. They're all happy. I was there for an hour? And did they did they do the thing where they show you around and go, this is the talent. We brought the talent up here. Now you important making me feel about talent? No, you just sat in the corner, because that's what happened to me. Nobody recognized me because I was wearing a fucking suit. No one's ever seen me in a suit, except like relatives at funerals and the occasional wedding. So yeah, it was mostly like lots of people like doing double takes and then they're like, oh, you're the fucking scrappy Irish guy. He's usually wearing band shirts. This is the suit. Danny's grandfather was very sick. Wow great yeah yeah, yeah, so you're a literal grave robber. Well he actually clawed his way out and you look great in this. Yeah, so when you sleep that. So, and what are you doing at the show this year? I'm doing video stuff at the show for the like two video game companies that want you to see what their video games look like. Yeah, it's fun videos right there in the name video games. But do you think they'd be like crazy for its? Yeah, I got a video of the video games. I got a three gigabyte package in the mail today for a game I was excited to do a video for. I was like, hell, yeah, let's un zip this. Rant ran it through all the software that I needed done zip it and it was twenty nine seconds of video footage. Yeah, and it was a VR game and it wasn't even the game being played. It was just them looking at their hands. I was like this is gonna be the best video ever? What are you doing? Was it the Batman game? Because I felt like when I played that there was a lot of in me looking at my hands in VR. No, it was a game. It was a game actually called rip Coil, which I don't want to get the streaming on you. It's too excited. It's kind of like wind Jammers VR. Really. Yeah, it's a game called Ripcoil in the Oculus booth. It's you throw a disc back and forth and you try and get it in the net in the back of the goal. All right, I'm probably gonna be seeing that tomorrow, Okay, going to see the ask them for their hot twenty nine seconds of video. Yeah, it's like, if you could please send me these twenty nine seconds I've got, You're gonna orl window ideas, different different pieces we can put together, just one second at a time. Actually, I'm pitching them on the twenty nine seconds of rip Coil VR as an exclusive, and every day we post one more second of the Yeah, and then at the end of like the unedited version, right, yeah, But it's basically second's YouTube presents just one little segment at a time. Then the end you post it all once. Right, so it worksby work. Yeah, oh that's yes. Yes, also yes, so we gets yeah never fo we post two hour videos to our website and then the reap the bandwidth cause and it's delightful and wonderful. And this is you're adding more compressions, like you're adding more change to the video. You're making the video file size bigger than too much. That cost two dollars. That was two dollars, four dollars. I mean, at least is cutting to black if it was cutting to like another image or something in real trouble about you don't have to go talk to some of those Adah, we'll get them, We'll get sweet Jeff. Yeah, that's how you talk to you. Okay, all right now see it's we're we're into the non endemic scene. So it's more like, so you guys make phones. Miao tatinos. Yeah, yeah, your your your empire has had wonderful luck with pizza rolls. It's exclusively the delicious food stuffs of tatinos. Yeah. That's uh, it's synergy. It's the definition of brand's energy. That's what it is. I like zesti meat, I like it in when it's in sauce, yes, and embarrassed with cheese. That all actually sounds what's the line over to embarrassment. You'll know one of them, you'll know. So obviously everyone's doing different things in the show. Patrick, You're out there doing reporting of a sort or that sounded mildly condescending. Yeah, no, I wanted to mildly and kind of let you finish. What what is it that you do? Man? This? Okay? Did you go to the influencer entrance at the at the Xbox? Then did they let you in there? Your YouTube presents to that where you I mean, it's been really, you know, interesting, my company going through an interesting time. But it's funny. A lot of people make jokes about the YouTube stuff. I've had two different Tumber stories I gonna tell about YouTube stuff. When you want to explain how Nintendo on YouTube works, I have a firsthand experience with this. Yeah. So you know, I've been lucky enough to do the marw Making Morning stuff like people watch that. It's been fun like doing that with Dan and the level stuff, and it's been a ton of fun. But when you break down how this stuff works, it is so from let's start January April made twelve fifty over the course of those four months, one thousand, two hundred and fifty dollars. Wow. When you break that stuff down, So, the way Nintendo does their thing is you have to submit these videos to their website, their Nintendo Creator Partner program, and you get used. They it takes forty eight hours or its to submit. When do you think you get the most views on the video this first forty eight hours? Right? Yeah, yeah, definitely. You don't retroactively get that money back. Cool, So in the first forty eight hours you submit that forty hours later it gets approved. Then they're like, cool, we already made most of the money on that video. Now you can make So Nintendo takes forty percent, take YouTube takes thirty percent, your MCN takes fifteen percent. So then you start working that out over the course of like four or five months, so you get five percent of the no views that come after hours. Again, So what I'm hearing is that I'm ready a Gawker porter took money from Nintendo. And it's true. Wow, Wow's true. Wow. I don't know, man, that's just I'm just asking questions over here. Man, I'm just trying to like you're being a reporter. Yeah, you're just like me. Yeah, we're pretty much identically like we're you know, it's it's weird, like like they're like seriously addressed. Like the stuff going on that company, like Bangracy sounds like way scarier than it actually is. It never everyone's still has jobs, life, insurance, all that stuff, Like it's not like operations. If I guys still get a paycheck every two weeks and if I die, like I'm golden. I got a thousand bucks from YouTube, it's pretty good. I got either a twelve hundred or twelve dollars from YouTube. I'm like sad, depends where you put the period. Yeah, yeah, but yeah, that's you know, there was a lot of stuff going around. When when all the stuff swirling around the company was happening, where people like those guys are fucking done. It's like nope, you don't understand how bankrupts works thanks to sales, Like things are complicated, like again like you can't spend it as like it's a great thing, but like it's it's complicated and like I get to keep doing my job, like coming out here, like playing games like like Final Fantasy uh fifteen VR just really just playing the most comprehensive, intense experiences. When you finished playing the final Fantasy fifteen VR experience, did you think, like, god, I wish just like Cocker and completely shut down. I walk up, it's a griffin and I'm like, hey, all right. So we're at this VR thing, you know, the Sony press conference finishes and uh on the the people that were in attendants, could you know, go and play a bunch of VR games and other stations they had set up and upstairs they had a lot of the games they announced at the conference, so you could play those, and so a lot of them are played the I played the the Double Fine game The seconds was really cool. I played Rez VR for the first time, which was like amazing. Hell yeah it's reds uh fifteen VR. Who who yeah boy, Yeah we didn't play it. Brad and I were walking around that thing just kind of getting a look at it. We showed up kind of as it looks like the first VR game ever made, in which it is like you have a gun which you shoot the guy and it's it's like the first idea someone would have about VR was like, well, what if you could hold a gun. Yeah, like with your shot and then you shoot the gun after you finished your job of shooting the behemoth for five minutes. Yeah, you get to look at Cindy in the driver's seat and it's Cindy or Sydney, Sydney, Sydney. I don't know what the final translation is going to games not out yet. There's a lot of a lot of things up in the air, and so so then the game, for me, the much more entertaining game was looking at the other people who were coming to play this demo and seeing which one of them were like like full blown, you're making this sound like much funnier than it was. It was like literally, so you finished the demo and like you press this button and says like do you want to go for a drive? It's like, Kelly, yeah, you don't want to go for a drive? Which in that car, and so you The way the demo and the demo ends is like you're sitting forward and like the cars in front of you, there's a rear room mirror. Uh, and then you're like you're you're in the car. Now You're gonna look around and then you look at your left and like Cindy's there and you're like, wait, she's shriving, she's okay, is not wearing a lot of clothing. And so most people, no, people lie like they know they're being watch No, that's the immersion factor there. They're they're they're in that car, they're with that girl. They're removing their clothes to spend time with this lady. They've never been in a car. Yeah, what he's a car final fantasy. So so Griff and I started making like account of these people, like as we're waiting in line, like is this guy gonna do it? Yep? Is that guy gonna do it? Yep? And talk about it enough. There was there was a guy that went up and played I think he overheard us talking about and so he he gets to that point and he just sits there and he goes like but willfully knowledge. I mean, the horizon looks very nice over there, and he like did it very brief, like look this way, I'm not going to do that, and they like hit the button end of the demo. But most of the most of the dudes were just like, well, well then the next guy, he was the one the right right before you played. Unless this guy was like a full time character artist. He was like study, doing an in depth study on new skin texture technology, especially like what do like gene textures look like? Like really close. So he goes like, because we're like like four to five, five out of six to that point of the people doing this, and then we made up for a point on that with this guy. I mean, he doesn't This was a half court buzzer beater three pointer. Yeah, just like guys are high fiving, fucking spilling drinks down he's down there, he's looking very close and it's looking for Easter eggs is going to knock basic. We don't call them that. We don't call them should You can start though, right? I mean, do you hear them breathing in you're uncomfortable? HR is about eight, So it's bad game a show. Yeah, So basically what you're telling the show basically the best the best of VR thing and the best of VR thing, yes more or less? Yeah we uh so, yes, That's where we ran into Patrick because I guess you you would probably split because after seeing that demo, I bet you had I okay, okay, all right, I figured you found your way to a bathroom to handle some business. No weird. Okay, Yeah, well I find nothing arousing about like men at a press demo who have no concern for the fact that they're being watched by thirty people as they full blown like their groove. They're watching everyone in front of them. That's the same thing. Probably it's cool. They probably thought it was like I had a moment in my mind of like, when I get in there, I'm not gonna do it because I just watched a hundred people do it, so I'm not gonna do it. Yeah, and he's apparently the only one other than Patrick. I didn't stick around. I didn't see what you did, so I can't testify. Instead, you just if you put your bother the people running the demo a lot if you just put your head through the car, because then the car is like broke apart and probably go to going everywhere. It's like, I'd rather just stick my face in this engine. It was just so much better than any other possibility right now. That is that has been one of the most fun things with VR that we've been doing is yeah, like yeah, is standing up while you're in a car cockpit and being like I'm above this car now, Oh my God, I don't have a head And I played a VR game today, Wilson's Heart, the new Twisted Pixel game. I did not know Twisted Pixel was making a horror VR game and they tried that where it's like, Okay, this door is locked, you got to find the key before you can go in. I was like, fuck you when I did it. When I did it, they actually factor for that, and if you actually face through a wall in that game, they have like some crazy visual effect that's like, no, you can't, it's not how that works. So at least they've planned for it. That's very much. That seems like most games have definitely, No, it's just been most I could leave the headset on, get in my car and drive away. It's just like I'm in a skybox somewhere a mile away from right exact action. Yeah. When I did the Batman VR one, like the it's actually kind of an interesting VR experience, like they're trying to take the forensic stuff and you're using like the you have two move controllers and the one in your left you when you tilted to the left, you're rewinding this, uh, this fire. It's happening between Nightwing and whoever. He's fighting some ghost man. Yeah. We talked about the mecacs of it earlier. Okay, so yeah, and but it's weird because like you're trying to, you know, examine these uh. I think like when his his jaw breaks, when his is rich shattered, and then when his next snaps. Yeah, and so, but you have to find these specific moments you can scan them so the game will trigger it. And so I was doing the last one when his next snaps, but I couldn't find the sweet spot when his next snaps. And so I'm sitting there just like rewinding, playing, rewinding, playing, and it's just like Nightwing having his next snaps over and over again. And the guy was like running the demo is finally like what do you what are you doing? Why are you just watching Nightwing die over and over agains like it won't like trigger the thing. He's like, oh, yeah, the demo's kind of weird. And I was just like, well, maybe you should have made a demo where I watched night Wings. They should have made up and interacting snuff film, sir sense gry. It's the best part of jeffk reloaded. Yeah, watch those replays. Yeah, VR is gonna really imagine it's gonna it's gonna blow some ways back. I think people be really excited about that. Oh god, that on the floor. Okay, let me so. John F. Kennedy was the President of the United States of America. Huh irish he kind of yeah, we take kind Yeah, I'm not gonna go down this road new further. Okay, Mary, what have you been doing to the show. I've seen you around. Have you been like just running things behind the scenes for for GameSpot dot com. Yeah, I don't actually get to play anything. Basically, we get a lot of stage shows things that like Danny C's or other editors where they get to play and then they give us the footage and we edit it and put it on the show. So, okay, I only got I got to play Trials, the new Trials game that they asked, what do you think they sent out codes for that, And I was like, I'm gonna redem that and play when I get home. And then but since it's out, I've seen people really shitting Only it's got platforming, which is really strange because like I don't play Trials to like do that plays running and jumping platform Yeah, and it's really weird and it's not good. But the motorcycles are good, and yeah, those are that part's fun and it's got some interesting It's got like really funny video. It's like really self aware. It's kind of making fun of how silly and obnoxious it is. But if you fail, like you know, if you make a mistake in the level, which in the trials you repeat levels right constantly twenty times, you hear the video each time, right, so I'm hearing tests joke, yeah, instead of like trying to make spake flips. Yeah, I'm like, I'm gonna beat this because I don't want to hear this anymore. That was my only memory of either. Well, there's still one more day of magical memory making to go. Yeah, Chris, you've been around the floor. What have you been doing. I heard you saying to Alex that you had a pretty light schedule. Yeah, I mean, like, honestly, the most memorable thing is I actually haven't told this to Patrick yet. Patrick and I had dinner last night. He doesn't know, well not this, so like this is kind of weird thing. But I've been, like I actually been thinking about it a lot because it was really traumatic. Yeah, no, we were waiting online for dinner. This is a real thing beending on there, just going by the way. No, no, no, it's not where you think. A very small gnat. It flew in my mouth and it went my sinuses were and I couldn't feel it, like no no, not more well so it's like I couldn't feel like and my sinuses great, and I was like we were talking. I was like there were some other people I hadn't met before, and I was like, I want to embarrass myself in front of him because I needed to like somehow like blowing out really hawk it out there which way? So, well, that's a great question. So I'm going to the table, I go to the bathroom and there's like a big line. Then I'm like like kind of trying to blow. But when I blow it out, like that's not gonna work, Like is this viral advertising for if this sucks? I sorr, it's the whole thing, And you guys, I tried to blow it out my nose, right, but it was too big to go off that direction what it was like, so then it was a nat. So then I tried to pull it out the other way, okay, and sho you not. I could feel it grabbing on, so I like, then finally like at this point, like five minutes to pass and I can get into into the stall. So I go into the stall and I alternate because I could feel it crushing it and then I couldn't feel it mess right now. I can't feel it literally like it stopped, like it literally gave off. And then I was like, is it out? And I couldn't figure out if it was out. So then we were eating dinner they were and I felt it drop out food and I spent my food out and it was a nat split and a half. What did you get? They were both There was was if you're fall in, you bisecting it perfectly on the unefficient. This is literally some fucking sam Raimie like and like, and I was like, nobody needs to know. But then the whole day and then I decided to dinner you were with it was like it was like this coon and per and thing where I's like, maybe it didn't happen at all. I was like, no, it happened, like it really happened, So I have to like share it or else, like it would like did you play it? We're past that. Now, did I get a box to take your food home? No, definitely not. I left it there for them to clean. So Patrick, you said you had fifty fifty. What was the other fifty because obviously you had that one picked out. Have you been in the E three store? Uh? No. I keep seeing signs and say like, there's merchant. That's so we went to the E three Live, the open to the public E three uh And they were selling shirts there. There was one that had backwards print on it that said this is my E three Live selfie shirt and it was backwards that's how any of that? Yes? And so I have not been to the E three store. Is there a new edition of the one? Uh? No? But I saw I saw something. There was a one who was working the booth and I was looking at she was wearing a shirt that said E three Live. But those the E three live logo with the three and it's very curvy and then live. Like when I looked over, I just thought that someone was sitting there working that booth with a T shirt that just had slave And I was like, what is happening? What happened to E three is a challenging second. And I looked at it long enough like okay, all right, nope, okay, I've been here too long. We have to leave. So no, I have not been to the Ecree merchandise area. The Yeah, no, that's a different I mean, I don't what was the what was your merchandise area? Well, there was a Chris and I apparently while he was battling a gnat, had a long conversation killed by this point, Triumph with his inside knows meat like yeah, with your tubes, there's me. They're selling a T shirt that smelled it to death. A bunch of controllers on it, so we remote there's an Xbox three control. But these are branded, they're not just like they're not similar the real thing. Okay, at the bottom it says not the bottom like full full huge font like impact font. It's good, funt I'd tap that. I almost I wanted to go buy a whole box of them. Yeah. Yeah, you reinforced that behavior by it, just to like give out to people say, hey, man, I bought you a T shirt. I think the idea there are a lot of options, another option ones that you would find them all because you don't really know how your body is going to change over the year. T Yeah, like an extra large just in case, and then like what if like you like lose some weight, like shirt like a strong forty five, you know, and you're like a right, need next are small sometimes the shirts And I say, I'd love to get fat into that because I tap that, especially if it's like if the shirt is that cool, that's worth me getting fat into it. What I like about it is if it doesn't make any sense, Like do you tap a video game controller when you're playing it? Sometimes? Yeah, I put it that's how I Yeah, well, I mean there are buttons. Yeah, and you're like sometimes you tap a button. Yeah, sometimes you could press it quick time. Sometimes you could hold a tap I guess yeah, or like you have to match to open that door. Yeah, I qte that that's changed the I play a lot of idol games incrementals if you will, And I would say, so I have some numeric proof that I can tap my iPhone screen five hundred times in thirty seconds. Wow, yeah you can really tap that? Can you prove that seconds? Literally right now on on air? See how it goes? All right, Yeah, we've got thirty what is this game? Tap Tycoon? Okay, from the makers of tap Titans. Uh, I'll submit to ask what's the policy on bathroom breaks in the middle of the show. If you if you absolutely need to handle it, I'd say go for it. If it's gonna it's gonna be a real problem right now. Yeah, okay, yeah, if you got to take a call, then then it's my bank. Okay, you're yeah, it's the bank. Can you want to clip me, Danny, it's the bank? Is okay, You've got thirty seconds. Jesus. Uh so I'm gonna use six fingers for this, seems okay, So everyone's clear before I start that. It's not like I'm not going like this all right? So am I adjudicating this? No, it'll tell you there's a there's a challenge you can perform hourly. Thank god. That is a whole thing where you can you mind for gold and everyone in your everyone in your investment group, which is like a clan. Sure, look, okay, here we go, Gold Digging Challenge Challenge number fifteen three two. That's fucking cheating. I can see already. I told you I was gonna use six fingers. Right, you can hear the APM be your games? Does it help not from look at it. It makes me feel better, Yeah, to not see what I'm doing. Did you get in your head? Yeah, a little bit. I kind of think about, like, man, this will be over seven seconds. Why aren't you utilizing your other fingers? You know, I feel like I would be faster on these and okay, what it's counting up? It's counting up. Oh oh my god, time is off. You have collected three hundred and fifteen point one four k okay, but the number below it you have tapped five hundred ninety seven times. Nice, Greg, Yeah, the funny thing about it, it's not six. No, it's not. But I've I'm normally five to five twenties, so and when I had to really focus here and to give you yeah, if you if you did, I'll bring them tomorrow. I've said it publicly now I'll buy a box of T shirts. Are you sure? Don't I don't think that's a very good I think that's a lie. Yeah, I don't know about that. Danny. What do you do in the rest of the show? Are you? It seems like you've got like a bunch of different hosts and people doing stages and all that stuff. So do you have like free time to actually get out and see anything, or this stuff just getting brought to you. I've played fuck all, I've played nothing. Is this what happened to you when you worked game spot for all these years? Yeah? Definitely. There were years like the Santa Monica year and oh seven, like we sat in the restaurant we rented out on the Santa Monica pier and everyone brought the gamest up. So here's Assassin's Creed, here's you know, we finished with rock Band. But that's the idea, except that now like nobody wants to take the risk of playing games live, so that just brings by. So it show tapes and just go like, we're gonna play the tape that you've seen because our game was in the press conference congratulations, which makes it easier because lets things go wrong. I basically come to E three every year, don't get to play anything, and I have conversations with people to bet their games that I haven't played. Yeah, so I just like talked to David Cage for twenty minutes about David Bowie mostly. Actually, I've actually got a really good body horror story bet E three as well, Jamon Cage because I, oh no, not David Cage. I got my wisdom tea taken out that two weeks ago. Yeah, so I didn't know this. I'm my dentist didn't tell me. But when you got your wisdom tea taken out, like AfOR closes up like fucking weeks later, just bits at teeth starts coming through. That's like your body. Like he didn't like get them all, so it starts like rejecting it. So I didn't know, and I woke. I got my wisdom teeth. Yeah, that's what happened. Happened. It's not real teeth coming So I didn't even get like put to sleep. I was just like he was like I was awake, and he was just like is this a doctor? Wait? Why use the doctor Silas? But I think that he went to Denis. They're Dennists And yeah, anyway, so I got this like piece of tooth that's like I can feel it. It's like a piece of tooth. It's coming out. This fucker won't either. It's been three days. That's bad. I'm like, you get that care of. It's all right. You should probably just try to get it out through your nose and then your mouth over and over until something happens like here, that works great. It's a good check. I mean, if it makes you feel better. When I had my job and I went inside the doctor, fish out in my mouth and it's like, guess what screw in there? He took it out? What truth story? Jesus Christ, My body's a mess, Mandy. Did he find a nat in there that that would come later in life? What is the nightmare? Kay? Ask you a question. This happening right now. This is a video game relating thing. Okay, all right? Yeah. Did you go to that EA event? Yeah? There when you when you were in Nokia Live or whatever they caught now. Yeah, do you think it was strange to actually play video games and not watch the Lander? Yeah, that was strange. It was strange to be there and then have there be like video games. I feel like that is like a place that is like where they chake you when they want you to, like no video games exist and you can watch zoo Lander on a loop and you're trapped times. What a great event? No, that's uh. After one point let's say one point two viewings of zoo Lander at that Activision event, I think it was like me and Annie McNamara and failed. Yeah, we were like, let's just get a fucking car, get the fuck out of here. We could just leave, we could we can make that word adults. We could walk out of this place. You had money at that time, Yeah, I was poor. Yeah. I lasted through three and a half. Yeah, before they put the Plebeians back on the bus. Yeah. That was the great bit for that was that was Judge's Week pre show. And then the great bit was the following year when I guess it was Epic. I guess it would have been West Phillips for Epic, like gave everybody a copy of Zoo Lander. You know. The brilliant thing about that Activision thing that I thought about that was the final year that they showed a Guitar Hero before this Raven right, and they rented out Nokia Theater and they had a stage with Guitar Hero on it. They were like, this is Guitar Hero. Yeah, don't Yeah, We're gonna brought some people from Never Saw to play these you know what, We're gonna play that song again, but now we're gonna show it to you with four guitars because you can do that in our game, Like yeah, it was. How do you feel about a little Place for ants? Is that a good zulin reference? Almost? It's on that movie Two and a half times, a little Place. It's France. You make a living putting things in your mouth. How can you relate to this nap story? Do you think that there's anything we can mind from this? For a mebo test? It was too small. It's a problem. I well, no, because it gets if they if they made a nebo's that little, I wouldn't are you, I wouldn't risk it. No, that's not safe anymore. That's a choking hazard for adults, not just trying to do too big and too little, because too big is there's there's very little danger post by and I mean, but it's too large. You put it in there and it's like ah, and you can try and you might hurt your job, but you're not going to die from it. Right. One that's too little might be because it could get it could inner space in there and then you don't know where it is. Question an important question. Say you do put on one that's you lunche in in your mouth and then you fall forward and then it would take a significant it would have to break my jaw like in order for some of these ambos to really get in there. I just got the whatever Mario Anniversary edition one that's all big and blocky, like I would need to. I would need to, like I would need to jump really high up in the air and then come landing mouth first down on the ground. It wouldn't be like kind of wan dive with you like your gullet fully in it and then it would kind of goes straight through you. Well, I'm a human, not a pelican, so like that? Are you sure? Pretty sure? If I was a Pelican, I'd be a much more successful, I mean, bow reviewer, I think fair enough. Have you tried like those Scotlander's giants. I would never fucking put a skyliner in my mouth? He has standard that. She's disgusting. Man, do you have any feelings? Why why don't I just go out on the street and scoop up some dog poop and put it in my mouth, Danny and review that twice? The life wonderful world have their been? Let's you know, if we can peep behind the curtain a little bit, yes, you know, just really get it. Was there a mountain too high? Yeah? No, I'm wondering, like, you know what was was there a moment when you had an amibo in your mouth where he actually felt like you may have been in danger, like one that was a little too small, and you're like, actually it was the second one I ever did, was shovel night, and that that dude's got horns on him, and I hate I hated every second of that. Yeah that sounds miserable. Yeah, that was the only let's go away behind the curtain. That one drew a little bit of blood. Oh yeah, that's sometimes you have to suffer for your art. I mean, I mean videos on video game website. Yeah, sure, yeah, no, it is my art and that's the meaning I've chose to work in. And you don't think Picasso had to bleed for his the things he did, I'm not sure what he don't think he had yet I think he did. He would paint in blood, I assumed, I just I didn't know. I don't know. I'm sure at some point he like poked himself accidentally, he dropped the plastic toy. He probably had the paintbrush in his mouth and fell, and then it like there was a whole thing, which is a constant fear of Like I like to walk around the house as I brush my teeth and you know, and it's a it's a two minute process because I have one that it's electric. It's just how I do it. And as I walk around, I'm like, this is how I'm going to die. I'm gonna fall and then it's just gonna be a bad. Imagine you do that as a piece of serialized web content, and then you found out that it was the only thing you've ever made on the Internet that children love. I get that a lot. Like my kid loves Griffins and Me Book Corner. I think, like, shit, you're horrible parents, or it's that's a bad I don't want them to replicate that. No, that's like I'm a trained professional. Yeah, well you know now you've You've just given me an idea for a web series. I hope you don't mind. I mean, we are part of Generation Remix, but I'm just gonna start my series where I just put plastic bags over my head. Yeah, kids are gonna love it. Kids are gonna it's gonna be awesome. Like I'm a fun astronaut. We're going to space. Kids. Just leave it on there until the stars come out. I have all I got. It's only one episode, I guess because once you go there this kind of well will you take it one week at a time? All right? I have a question. Okay, I actually don't know the answer. I live near Griffin. I don't know the answer to this. But do you wait until your wife is home for you to do this? Because like, say it goes wrong and then she comes home to find you like on the floor like purple, like and I hope that you put pants on that morning with like joy in your mouth. Yeah. I actually have a Life Alert subscription. Yeah, I had to get it for this. I don't know life Alert is I think of the subscribe. Yeah, it's yeah, I think you have. You don't really have to subscribe. You trade used games. They give you a Life Alert subscription. It is exactly like game oh boy. Yeah. Now, like I'm a grown ass man and I have a decent sized mouth and like really great glottis control. So like I'm pretty much set. Like I don't want to say this is my superpower, not being able not choking when I put toys in my mouth? But what size is a decent size for a mouth? That's a crazy sentence to say at I mean you get you rewarded yourself the status and decent sized mouth one Yoshi and Mibo size, because that was like the max cap that I can still wrap my soft Yoshi. You're a hard yos the hard one. I will never put a spongy a'miva in my mouth of any sort. That's a good policy, I think, because those would pick up dirt. I think a lot of easily. Yeah, a lot of the other ones. So you know, yeah, the yarn Yoshi's the Has anybody here ever watched one of those? I've never asked literally anybody this, and so now I'm asking all of you people here on this live stream this. Has anybody watched one of those videos and thought, I'm gonna try. I'm gonna try. I'm gonna try to see if I can fit into me by my mouth because I want I want to. I do want to challenge adults, like adults who know what they're doing up there. I don't want kids are like I like the funny man, I'm gonna black yeah, yeah, No, I want an adult to try to do it because I want them to like see, I want it to be aspirational I've watched it and thought I could do that. I could probably you haven't, No, I have not, kind of like pro baseball. Yeah, absolutely, everyone thinks they can do it. Yeah, you know when you get up there, you just don't get up there, No, it goes bad. Also, I have TMJ. My jaw kind of pops and clicks and stuff like that. So I really think if I were too might give you extra clearance. Though it might. If I could unhinge my jaw like a snake, then I'm putting you out a business. But yeah, I just I don't know that it works that way. Is there a good starter like that you recommend? Mario was the first one I did, and he was actually kind of a breeze. Yeah, it seems like it would be. Yeah, yeah, Kirby a lot of people like Kirby. That'll be easy. Kirby is completely spherical, like a jawbreaker. It's hard to fit your tooth profile around that. So Boo the New Boo are probably gonna be tricky. No, who's real round? That's what I'm saying. Like your mouth, your teeth don't make a round shape. They make something round. It's like then it's like it's like ball gag territories is essentially exactly where we're talking about dicks, right yeah, ambos yeah, ambos Okay yeah, uh Patrick, What is Kataku's answer to Griffin's ambo corner? Now that we live in this personality based economy of games journalism? Uh, you know, the cake pictures thing doesn't seem like a video game take. It doesn't pay the bills anymore, so, Danny Barry, Game Spot's answer to Griffin's ambo corner Fuck me a lot, people, Probably you're just gonna put the strap on the anyway. You wouldn't believe what kinde chress is up to. All of our ideas go through such a wonderful vetting process that it's so we've already come up with so many, so many of the best ideas that we just run out of them. It's true, is actually the only thing game spot hasn't done. Yeah, yeah, I suppose this at this point. What a unique concept that we absolutely cannot copy in any way. You just are able to have that for yourself, definitely anything. Yeah, it's his unfair advantage. How fucked up would it be, though, if some other video game website was just like literally like yo, We're gonna put amibos in our mouth, like none of the nuance of just like thirty second video. Yeah, it's right to the point, like his videos are too fucking long. Yeah put Yeah, I done. Next one. It's like six minute ABS comes out with five minute ABS exactly. We could just incorporate into our current lineup. It would be like top five Skyrim mobs mods water You're like gagging on a wallaweji. I would probably watch that video. Yeah, if it was literally someone running down the top five Skyrim mobs. Yeah, out at regular videos, but gagging on at the same time. We call it gagging. Yeah, is planning to like capitalizing this concept. Is there any sort of like you know, like, hey, it's gonna be Ambo Corner week. All of our coverage is gonna be performed with people phone. My phone is on right now. There's an active call to our like brand management department. Good and right now, just like trademark gagging. Trademark gagging right now and I think they I think we're good, just good. And it was apostrophe and it seems more like cruise in USA. Kids are gonna like it. Get that one too, damn it. Shit, we have twelve high priced lawyers. It's already done. Did you see that truck with the dot gamer things right? Yeah? Domains? Yeah, in that game I looked at I was looking up dot game domains or some something fucking stupid. I was knowing Jeff dot zone. Yeah, no, that that's not stupid. Jeff dot Zone is a web destination. It's a portal to connect to me. Don't let him get in his zone so much teeth. Have you ever thought about registering a domain, Danny? Yeah, one dot cool? Right, I forgot, I forgot all about one dot com. Is it fun? No, it's it's I thought this play like we're having fun. I told you to get register trademark fun dot it's an that's right. Uh no, that's uh, that's Giant ball that that's video games dot COM's f one podcast right by the way. When the fuck did that? I have him right before you? Three? Okay, Yeah, yeah, it was good. I thought about telling you, and then I was like, because I know you occasionally would say mentioned video games dot Com, and I was like, I'm just not gonna tell me. That'd be funny. I actually checked before when it stay shows. I just I typed it in that went, Yeah, that makes sense, all right, fair enough, it goes to a videoing website. Yeah, well, gosh, start with this is Jeff. It's always been daddy. It's what it's always been one. It's been a lot of fun having you all here, but I think we have to stop. Did anyone us talk about a single fucking video game that we saw at the Electronic He said he saw the Batman and it was all right, honestly, thing, I've been wild Lands? Yeah, what do you think of it? Man? What if I had told you there was a game? Okay, you were a white yard with the beard anyway, can kill fucking everyone else on the planet. And you were like, what can you feel it? But can your bearded white man like assume some kind of moral high ground against some sort of you want hid? I assumed. Dude was like we were on the tight deadline because some celebrity was coming in, so he's like, we're gonna have to do this on half the time, so we have to move and kill pez Khalifa's coming in in five minutes is like movie kill, movie kill. And he's like, we're like the snipers wherever. He's like, see that lock over there. I was like, I don't know, I can't see it, and he was like lean over here, look at the screen and he's like that lock. I was like okay, He's like shoot that lock, you know, free the people and we won't be done. I was like, okay, I don't see it, and I just kept doing it for like five minutes. He no, shoot the lock. I was like, I don't know, man, I think you should shoot the lock. And he was like, no, shoot the lock. And he's like like like, came over. I think he's gonna take the controller. He's like was was this gonna have to like see some secret wild Lands appointment where like shoot the locks go for like we're gonna go to bumps. Shoot was the theme of the I Know It's Weed three. That was the most wonderful thing I've ever heard anybody talk about at a press conference. During the UBSA press conference, which was like everyone drinks energy drinks. What if instead we were doing cocaine. That's a great. Let me get a vodka cocaine. Why are you talking about Red Bull and vodka? Got a little douche like people started, which it was sad because I enjoyed it as a beverage, and then you came along, and then four loco came along, and then the government told me I couldn't fucking have it anymore, and they took the energy out of it. Now, what am I supposed to do? You know? We're ready to get your cocaine? Is to sign up from the military? Is a sales party on like eight floor? Is off? You've gone some cocaine? Yeah, no that we get up there. Just just find the bathrooms upstairs and just run your finger along the toilet tank. That's what you used to be able to do in the third four bathrooms on payday. Really wow? Anyways, fun around here, Locke, what was buying the luck? Did you shoot it? You know what? It was kind of mooring and shot the lock and just some people got family. We went and killed some more people who were from a different country. That sounds all right. I don't know cocaine game. I was gonna ask more questions, but I think I'm just gonna let y'all go. Yeah. Yeah, we've been great having you all here. The suit is thank you. You didn't finish your sentence, but thank you. I can feel the tooth coming up right now. Please keep us posting on that related happenings are all dead. Yeah, okay that you're aware of. Yeah, yeah, they kind of laid baby eggs. It definitely laid baby eggs in there. You're gonna plast it out like John Coffee from The Green Mile? Oh yeah, wait does he guy from because he can't pee? Which one is someone that can't be Yeah, that's a perfect summary of the movie in book Green Mile. Yeah, I thought so, Griffin. You're a podcasting empire is inspiring and delightful. Oh that's right. I quit. Yeah, yeah, off, I go on a rocket ship, made a podcast out of this old stink industry, like like seriously for reality, no dude, for life. Okay, yeah, yeah, it'll be fun. No, Patrick, congratulations on buying a house. Thank you. And working for a bankrupt company. It's one thing on a Friday. Yeah, awesome, positive thing to come out of this. Yea, Marry, you're a delight Thank you so much for sticking through this shit show of a show. I learned a lot about nats. Yeah, I think we all learned a lot tonight. To get your sinuses, that's what they say. I'm amazing. Thought so hard though, me and Danny, you look like a biz dev guy. Yeah. I want to get out of the way. Really, that's the next evolutions. Yeah, you just never made that, Jeff, No, No, I mean next That's what I mean. I need a biz deef guy. Oh really? Yeah, Okay, let's make some money. Do you feel about airheads bites? I don't. I don't know what they are. I want in I got Tim Shaved to say it four times today. Do you get paid every time he says it? All right, we're gonna talk about this off the air.
