Episode 94 - War of the Beast pt3
On today’s cast we continue our coverage of the war of the beast. We open with the invasion of Ullanor. On paper it looked like it was going to go great, but it did not. From there we go back to Terra with the formation of the Death Watch. Then we follow the rediscovery of the Sisters of Silence and a new plan for how to kill the beast. We then close out with the second invasion of Ullanor.

[SPEAKER_00]: It is a great place for anyone who loves Forty Kay and Forty Kay lore. [SPEAKER_00]: We have everything from literature recommendations, episode discussions, favorite movies, video games, [SPEAKER_00]: There's the biggest piece about it is it's full of help. [SPEAKER_00]: That's what I, that's why we really do love it is it's full of a place you can go to to get help on recommendations or help on learning more. [SPEAKER_00]: So links in the show notes, please come in as always. [SPEAKER_00]: Huge thanks to our moderators who are helping keep the space what it is. [SPEAKER_00]: But now onto the guest. [SPEAKER_00]: So let's recap where the hell we are. [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of stuff has happened. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, these are, as we said, guys, we're taking twelve books, actually what more than twelve books, because we end up going beyond the end of the war, the base. [SPEAKER_00]: So in more than twelve books, we're compressing down to four casts. [SPEAKER_00]: And good news is some of those books aren't that well written, so we're actually saving you guys a lot of hours of your lives. [SPEAKER_00]: That's sad what is true. [SPEAKER_00]: So recap, seemingly out of nowhere, the entire imperial was beset by an orc incursion. [SPEAKER_00]: Not just like a small horde of orcs appearing, but much worse. [SPEAKER_00]: The orcs had new technology that was allowing them to teleport attack moons into systems. [SPEAKER_00]: And these attack moons had portals inside of them that were teleporting billions of orcs out. [SPEAKER_00]: completely wrecking the Imperium. [SPEAKER_00]: The lords of Terra, of course, proved massively useless during this era, choosing as a thick baker amongst themselves, or just be feckless in their leadership. [SPEAKER_00]: The initial invasion was seemingly stopped at a place called Port Sactus, only by the Imperium throwing the entire Imperial Navy at them, which did destroy the attack mode, but lost well over half of the Imperial Navy. [SPEAKER_00]: that victory was then short-lived because a new attack went appeared in the orbit literally above Terra. [SPEAKER_01]: I think orbit is way way too broad. [SPEAKER_01]: What was actually going on? [SPEAKER_01]: I guess very, very, very low orbit. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, hey, man, I think if I jump high, I could touch that moon. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it wasn't in an ideal location. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was if they were trying to check out the giant celebration that they were throwing for the utter defeat of the orcs. [SPEAKER_00]: That was, yeah, it was mildly awkward to make matters better. [SPEAKER_00]: The lords of terror devised a genius plan to handle it by transporting tens of millions of citizens of terror to the moon, armed with whatever they could follow. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was what to say. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're a citizen, you act like it was people that have [SPEAKER_01]: trading for the event. [SPEAKER_01]: No, they sent the dude that owns Duncan Donuts and told them to grab a broom and charge. [SPEAKER_01]: And it did work because we sent a whole bunch of tents from Duncan's head. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, until they collapsed two mountains together and killed all of them. [SPEAKER_00]: So at this point, it was looking like it was all over. [SPEAKER_00]: Luckily, [SPEAKER_00]: The successors of Dorans and Perial Fists all arrived in the system, attacked the moon destroy the orc forces, saving humanity. [SPEAKER_00]: During this period, two things were discovered. [SPEAKER_00]: First, the source of the orc invasion was Ulinor Prime, which was, for those who remember back in the Horus heresy episodes. [SPEAKER_00]: This is where the end of the great crusade, where Horus and the legions defeated the orcs, [SPEAKER_00]: kind of forever and supplanted humanities superiority in the galaxy. [SPEAKER_02]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I didn't work apparently. [SPEAKER_00]: So now they had to go out there and deal with that. [SPEAKER_00]: But before they could do that, the prime Vulcan reappears super randomly. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So they had to go and grab Vulcan. [SPEAKER_00]: So now we've got this. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, they kind of, well, they did have to go and Vulcan said I'm not going anywhere until I take care of this. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, they wasn't you're at Vulcan wasn't waiting at the bus stop for them. [SPEAKER_00]: There was a bit more. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there was a side quest they had to go on. [SPEAKER_01]: You know what, screw this. [SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about this for just one more second because I love Vulcan. [SPEAKER_01]: It makes me super happy that he was on the planet just wrecking people with his hammer like saw around in the beginning of lower the rigs just [SPEAKER_00]: smoking or so the stories that's actually one of the funnier stories you guys should read that I can't remember which war the beast book it is just Google like war of the beast Vulcan returns it is hilarious because there are he's really killing thousands of works at a time with a hammer swing which the math isn't great on sorry which the physics isn't great on you shish your face John but anyway so let's get to it we now have Vulcan [SPEAKER_00]: has rejoined the imperium and they're launching the invasion to O'Nore to crush the work while once in for all. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about the invasion of O'Nore. [SPEAKER_00]: So this is now the largest kind of invasion since the Great Crusade. [SPEAKER_00]: There were nine space marine chapters, which in that space, sorry, nine space marine. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's nine space marine chapters came in. [SPEAKER_01]: And the big thing about this, it using it already, boom, went to biggest. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to use literally almost a second and it'll be great. [SPEAKER_01]: We have five successful chapters of the Imperial Fist because the Imperial Fist are now Ted. [SPEAKER_01]: So we got the Templars, the Crimson Fist, Fist exemplar, the Iron Knights and the X-Cory. [SPEAKER_01]: And then we've got Ultramanes because it's a GW book. [SPEAKER_01]: The Blood Angel Space was Dark Angels. [SPEAKER_01]: Every one of the factions that's played all the time is now on the board. [SPEAKER_01]: This is also wildly, since the horse heresy, we have not had a large gathering of marines. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: This is a thousand years now that we've had anybody in any rareth in any relevant number show up. [SPEAKER_01]: It also we haven't had during the great crusade. [SPEAKER_01]: We had all these combined forces all the time. [SPEAKER_01]: Since then, a lot of these chat all these chapters since they broke up have been very almost separate entities. [SPEAKER_01]: They helped the successor chapters, but there was a lot of just yellow solo between [SPEAKER_00]: exactly different people's now we will admit in the books the ultramarine's blood angels spacers and dark angels are present but they're not one of the like that they're not the key part the key part of this are the imperial fist successors and actually I should also point out we said they're five successors chapters they're also is the imperial fist the one guy left is also there the fist [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's a fist who's also present. [SPEAKER_00]: Additionally, we've got close to ten regiments of Imperial Guard. [SPEAKER_00]: We've got Imperial Knights, Lizio Skittari, Lizio Cybernetica, even Titans were all deployed. [SPEAKER_00]: So this force was designed when they went out there. [SPEAKER_00]: Their expectation was we're going on an ass kicking mission and we've brought everything we need for this. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's not even just the ass cake mission. [SPEAKER_01]: They're not going to win. [SPEAKER_01]: They're going to grind them out. [SPEAKER_01]: So there's no nothing left. [SPEAKER_01]: That was their old point. [SPEAKER_01]: They're bringing so much. [SPEAKER_01]: It was, it's the wrong way. [SPEAKER_01]: I'll know how many guys it was going to take. [SPEAKER_01]: But I know how many they're going to use. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: But the whole journey to Illinois is fraught with foreshadowing. [SPEAKER_00]: As I said before, these books aren't that well written in some bits. [SPEAKER_00]: So the first kind of warning sign they get to is Vulcan just hangs out by himself. [SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't take a mantle of leadership. [SPEAKER_00]: He just goes and sits in what is actually Cordland's room. [SPEAKER_00]: and just hangs out there for the entire trip. [SPEAKER_00]: So then Corland is, and along with the head of the Mechanicum are the ones planning the entire invasion while there's a, the primar, and I want to put on, we say primar, the absolute smartest person tactically in everything that existed in this entire thing by a power of like twenty is just sitting back in a room, playing a game boy. [SPEAKER_00]: So, whatever. [SPEAKER_00]: I hate it every part about that, by the way. [SPEAKER_00]: It's true though. [SPEAKER_00]: The next big warning sign they get is they're trying to pinpoint the main base of the orcs and they can't do it. [SPEAKER_00]: Something that came up in this book that's kind of cool is when the appearing goes to war, they actually use their librarians to scout ahead. [SPEAKER_00]: They use warp site. [SPEAKER_00]: which has been in the game and has not been in the game depending on the addition. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's candidly. [SPEAKER_00]: You scout ahead and look for enemy encampments, fortifications, and this is how the Imperium plans are. [SPEAKER_00]: This is our invasion plan, et cetera. [SPEAKER_00]: But every time they try to do this, these librarians would burn out. [SPEAKER_00]: Some of them, the lucky ones, they burned out. [SPEAKER_01]: They were getting their heads popped off like the tops of data lions. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, those were the happy ones. [SPEAKER_00]: The good ones were the ones who just screamed in their heads exploded. [SPEAKER_00]: The other ones went insane. [SPEAKER_00]: Something even to tack to their space screens on the ship. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is because the orcs possess a very strange work presence. [SPEAKER_00]: If they're not in tune of the work, the way the elders are humans are. [SPEAKER_00]: But with enough orcs come together, their effect disrupts the work massively. [SPEAKER_00]: And so you just can't scribe into it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a their unique, by the way, when they do this, it's isn't like, I guess it is kind of similar to shadow of the work from Terriids, but it's more violent. [SPEAKER_01]: But it also, it's kind of the way it's return is something they're specifically doing. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but at the same time, when they're able to disrupt the warped as much, it doesn't affect chaos. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, because normally if you're talking about always a heavy disruption in the warped, that's like burning people out, then oftentimes that would be accompanied by a break in the material, in the material that would allow the material to enter the material. [SPEAKER_00]: Death orcs orcs are good. [SPEAKER_01]: The log is almost like a self-contained network. [SPEAKER_01]: He keeps getting larger and more powerful as it grabs more orcs, but trying to get into that network, [SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of firewalls that you're going to encounter. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it seems, and the thing that's cool is, I wish this would be in the game, by the way, but it's in the lore. [SPEAKER_00]: It affects both. [SPEAKER_00]: It affects humanity. [SPEAKER_00]: It goes to chaos. [SPEAKER_01]: I'll screw that up. [SPEAKER_01]: I used to, John, one of the best parts. [SPEAKER_01]: The old best parts about Blague Orcs was when you got enough boys around one of your weird boys, he would get a bonus. [SPEAKER_01]: It was enough to six. [SPEAKER_00]: That's the smite things off board. [SPEAKER_01]: He'd get extra damage extra power. [SPEAKER_01]: But if he got a result over twelve with your two D six plus whatever the thing, he took damage. [SPEAKER_01]: He just died. [SPEAKER_00]: But what I'm saying is that in the lore, it also negatively affects [SPEAKER_00]: enemy psychers, which it didn't, and eighth is in your right. [SPEAKER_00]: I got a better deny, but I'm talking about it should be almost like a no field should be coming off. [SPEAKER_00]: If you read the lore, like if you're a psycho and you're trying to cast a power, you're a thousand of sons and you're fighting the orcs and there's enough work boys, those powers start to struggle because you can't get to the work because there's so much disruption happening around you. [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, forks causing chaos and shenanigans, what? [SPEAKER_00]: I know it's what they're the best army. [SPEAKER_00]: After a bunch of attempts though, they are able to scrying and they kind of figure out where the headquarters are. [SPEAKER_00]: And it is surprise surprise, exactly on the site where Horace and the forces of the Imperium and the Emperor celebrated their victory over the Orcs. [SPEAKER_00]: There is now a massive structure. [SPEAKER_01]: I need to talk about this brother. [SPEAKER_01]: because that only is this whole planet covered with different fortifications and everything else. [SPEAKER_01]: Their main fortress is a comically large orc fortress, which means that there's stuff on it that shouldn't work at all. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's just wildly too big. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like if you're trying to play the wildest game of Jenga ever and they just built a fortress into the sky, it's fantastic. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just they kept putting guns and stuff and kept building up and out. [SPEAKER_00]: The last big warning sign they get, though, is they can't get a fix on the position of the bulk of the orc forces within that fortress. [SPEAKER_00]: They're blind to it. [SPEAKER_00]: So they just knew, all right, that fortress is where we're going. [SPEAKER_00]: And again, the appearance viewpoint was, we've brought more than enough forces screw this, let's land, and then we'll go beat these orcs into the ground. [SPEAKER_00]: So then we get into the invasion, which doesn't go great. [SPEAKER_00]: upon, literally, my turn upon arriving in orbit, the orcs launched this incredible attack on the fleet, and orcs shooting as we said before is orcs shooting, and orc armor is not much better, so the Imperium [SPEAKER_00]: beats this fleet back pretty well. [SPEAKER_00]: The fleet comes in. [SPEAKER_00]: They're more of a nuisance because as it comes in, this incredible size of a period of navy just pushes them to the side. [SPEAKER_00]: At which point the Imperium starts to get confident and they decide cool, let's get a beach head for an invasion. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is when warning sign number one occurs. [SPEAKER_00]: The entire. [SPEAKER_00]: What do you say? [SPEAKER_01]: What do you say number one? [SPEAKER_01]: It's a pretty big warning side. [SPEAKER_01]: I say a red flag, sir, because they had a force field across the entire planet. [SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't like an area was covered, but even for you have a force field across. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I don't know a couple of the structures. [SPEAKER_01]: They went, hey, I didn't know where to put it. [SPEAKER_01]: So we just surrounded the planet with a force field. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like this is what I want to point out when Horace invaded Terra, the emperors force filled was just over the imperial palace. [SPEAKER_00]: This was a forceful stronger than the emperors one that was around the entire planet because go orcs. [SPEAKER_00]: The ordinance that the Imperial Navy fires down just has bouncing off of it. [SPEAKER_00]: And more importantly, they can't teleport down, which is one of the space brain's favorite tactics is they teleport down, you bombard, then we teleport down behind you and we crush you. [SPEAKER_00]: They can't do that. [SPEAKER_00]: So now they have to do a manual landing. [SPEAKER_00]: So they start landing and landing and landing. [SPEAKER_00]: Despite some initial losses, the landing is not that difficult, but once they get down there, it becomes a pretty solid issue. [SPEAKER_00]: Because as they arrive in the outskirts of the city, the local population doesn't really offer up much resistance. [SPEAKER_00]: More importantly, as the space means are killing orcs, there's not a lot of reinforcements coming. [SPEAKER_00]: This is a pretty good warning sign guys. [SPEAKER_01]: Hold, please, sir, because you're stepping over one of the things that might be the best part of the story. [SPEAKER_01]: John, where did they drop down to? [SPEAKER_01]: Or city hasn't named my fantasy, my friend. [SPEAKER_01]: I meant to say, Comrade John, what was the name of the city? [SPEAKER_00]: So for some dumb reason, they decided to call it Gorko grad. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there are a thousand better options here. [SPEAKER_00]: Gorkopolis, Morka Gorkoville, big green city, orc dorgas, what I would have gone with. [SPEAKER_00]: They probably, they probably, we've got to see it. [SPEAKER_00]: I still worth it. [SPEAKER_00]: I worth it. [SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, the Imperial Forces reach Gorka, and this is when the beast unleashes his first trick. [SPEAKER_00]: The entire planet of Olinore was not really an orc settlement like the Imperial Thought it was. [SPEAKER_00]: It was a planet sized attack mode. [SPEAKER_00]: being the orcs could manipulate the surface the way they do on the attack moons. [SPEAKER_00]: As the imperial forces come rushing towards Gorka Guard, the planet itself starts to shift in change and creates basically a kill zone. [SPEAKER_00]: Mountains just pop up all around the place. [SPEAKER_00]: This won't be one valley into Gorka Guard and the imperial goes right into the valley and discover the thing about work shooting. [SPEAKER_00]: As we said before, it's not very accurate. [SPEAKER_00]: We don't have to be very accurate. [SPEAKER_00]: All the bullets can only go one place. [SPEAKER_00]: And they just are getting slaughtered. [SPEAKER_00]: Then, orc forest parks show up. [SPEAKER_00]: Stop, orc forest parks show up. [SPEAKER_01]: Stop, orc forest parks show up. [SPEAKER_01]: Stop, orc forest parks show up. [SPEAKER_01]: Stop, orc forest parks show up. [SPEAKER_01]: Stop, orc forest parks show up. [SPEAKER_00]: Stop, orc forest parks show up. [SPEAKER_00]: Stop, orc forest parks show up. [SPEAKER_00]: Stop, orc forest parks show up. [SPEAKER_00]: Stop, orc forest parks show up. [SPEAKER_00]: Stop, orc forest parks show up. [SPEAKER_00]: Stop, orc forest parks show up. [SPEAKER_00]: Stop, orc forest parks show up. [SPEAKER_00]: This is just, like, the Imperium's never seen this level ever. [SPEAKER_00]: We're at like, like, fifty-sixty times, what they probably thought works even possessed in the role right here. [SPEAKER_00]: Pretty quickly, the battle begins to turn to a stalemate, and the Imperium's taking catastrophic losses. [SPEAKER_00]: Over fifty percent of the Imperio guard are dead. [SPEAKER_00]: A third of the space marines are dead. [SPEAKER_00]: Close to half the titans, nightens, and legio forces are gone. [SPEAKER_00]: So luckily, Brad's body decides to let me in here, baby. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So things are going bad. [SPEAKER_01]: I get I feel you could check all bad because well, they're also a little we already said that they were pretty cocky on this the way they'd position the Titans the Knights was pretty bad. [SPEAKER_01]: They actually mentioned this in the book. [SPEAKER_01]: and they get hit by all of this anti vehicle stuff that they didn't think they had, even though they already were showed that they had it the last time they fought. [SPEAKER_01]: So whatever, however, Vulcan decides that the entire trip here, he was putting on his boots and money asking, he had to lace them extra tight and then push the making so many gestures that no one can see, tightens them up with the eighties. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the eighties pumps. [SPEAKER_01]: So he grabs his hammer and starts just waiting in and wrecking shop. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, he's taking his hammer to gorkenots and they're just dropping. [SPEAKER_00]: This is no joke, Vulcan time. [SPEAKER_00]: And he begins to turn the tide. [SPEAKER_00]: The impiro forces start driving their way toward the impiro palace. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, at the same time, we talked last time about E-sad wire. [SPEAKER_00]: So he was the super assessed and the vanguard pulled out at a retirement to help him. [SPEAKER_00]: E-sad had also gone to Urlanor by himself, and they were explained how he got there or whatever I don't care. [SPEAKER_00]: But he's not part of the invasion force. [SPEAKER_00]: He's an independent. [SPEAKER_00]: He was deployed like an assassin. [SPEAKER_00]: And the idea was he would go there and just kill the beast from the shadows. [SPEAKER_00]: Because he's a Venom assassins. [SPEAKER_00]: He's a master of poison. [SPEAKER_01]: Also, it cracks me up because he's just doing the Steve. [SPEAKER_01]: We should be walking around going, hello, fellow arts. [SPEAKER_00]: I am also, I am with you, too. [SPEAKER_00]: Those silly humans will be here soon. [SPEAKER_00]: Please don't pay attention to me. [SPEAKER_00]: And Eastside is he's a super spy. [SPEAKER_00]: So he finds his way into the massive temple dedicated to Morgan Gork inside he never finds the beast though. [SPEAKER_00]: And the reason why is as he's getting in there, he finds tens of thousands, not tens of thousands of war boss works all wearing heavy armor. [SPEAKER_00]: These are mega nobs, but two or three times the size. [SPEAKER_01]: Also, this is one of those things where hey, man, you should have grabbed a radio and went, someone should know about this before. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, before the invasion was going. [SPEAKER_00]: So the scene isn't written as well as it could be, because it should have been happened. [SPEAKER_00]: It should have popped his head in there, just gone, oh shit. [SPEAKER_00]: And then ran out, but there's a bunch more drama, but there's also, by the way, Orc and Gargantz and Mega Gargantz, which is mega Gargantz, it was there. [SPEAKER_00]: which is, yeah, which is the Orcs version of a Titan, which I'll, this is the first time we'd ever even seen one. [SPEAKER_00]: This may have been this may have been the first sighting of a mega gargant in his. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So East Side realizes he can't infiltrate past tens of thousands of war boss works wearing mega armor. [SPEAKER_00]: And he also realized this is a trap that the second the impereophorciate close enough, this whole force will come out and they're gonna get slaughtered. [SPEAKER_00]: So then he does a weird thing. [SPEAKER_00]: He steals an orc plane, no idea how, and flies it back to the imperial forces, which by the way, don't shoot it down. [SPEAKER_01]: for what, but it, it bybide, someone did shoot part of it. [SPEAKER_01]: It bybide is on shows up like Jack Sparrow when the ship's sinking. [SPEAKER_01]: And he just gets out at the very last second to walk ahead. [SPEAKER_01]: I assume that's what he did mainly because [SPEAKER_01]: He walks instantly out of the plane and just starts talking. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, well, yeah, and it's, it'll hold. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of these better details, but my interpretation of it was he effectively went, hey, guys, super assassin here, just doing my own thing. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, you guys are all dying and struggling. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, when he heads up, I already infiltrated the place you're trying to go. [SPEAKER_00]: What? [SPEAKER_00]: Why did I show you how to get there? [SPEAKER_00]: That's not important. [SPEAKER_00]: And why not kill the beast? [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, fair point, but look, there's a huge trap waiting for you. [SPEAKER_00]: What did I do about the huge trap? [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, nothing. [SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely nothing about the huge trap. [SPEAKER_00]: But I'm here now telling you that the greatest poison assassin in the galaxy. [SPEAKER_00]: Boys and zero people did zero poisoning. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm just letting you know you guys should be careful if you keep going that way. [SPEAKER_00]: Peace out, dooses and then leads. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just like I gave them some hundred chicken. [SPEAKER_00]: That would have been a nice step, given a little bit of undercooked chicken. [SPEAKER_00]: He literally went, wow, that's a lot of bad guys. [SPEAKER_00]: Someone should do something about that and then leave. [SPEAKER_00]: So, Corland, this point decides to halt this salt in the main orc fortress because he realizes them ever get there. [SPEAKER_00]: And again, the story takes a weird turn. [SPEAKER_00]: randomly orcs now apparently need food, but they do need, but he just randomly, he then decides that he's going to attack all of the orcs food supplies instead of invading, because somehow Coral and Nude orcs were suffering from a lack of food, and they already began eating the Gretchen human slaves and other things. [SPEAKER_00]: This never happens outside of these books, by the way. [SPEAKER_00]: This is why this whole parts really weird. [SPEAKER_00]: So, Corland's brand new plan is I'm going to attack all the food supplies of the Orcs to increase the stream on the logistics. [SPEAKER_00]: And that'll force the Orcs to come out and fight us, that if us try to go into their fortress. [SPEAKER_00]: This doesn't make sense because that's what you do in a multi-month siege. [SPEAKER_00]: You don't do that. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to attack your food stuff set two p.m. [SPEAKER_00]: And I wait for you to attack me at four p.m. [SPEAKER_01]: Which is what happens in the book. [SPEAKER_01]: He attacks their food supplies twice. [SPEAKER_01]: And they're like, oh, we should probably attack now. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he could have just yelled out that they wanted to fight and they would have came out. [SPEAKER_00]: Luckily for Corland, the Admec had brought a group called the Ligio Ordinata, you know, ordinance. [SPEAKER_00]: And they're in charge of the massive guns of the Mechanicum. [SPEAKER_00]: These are weapons that actually have to be assembled on site. [SPEAKER_00]: They're that big and they bring the Womp. [SPEAKER_00]: And so as the Orcs come out into Corland's new fancy trap, these [SPEAKER_00]: Beligeo or not as open fire and actually do wreck a bunch of the orcs stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: And so now that they're yeah, so now the tide is turning and the orcs are. [SPEAKER_00]: bit more disjointed, and the Imperium can attack again. [SPEAKER_00]: And they make their great big push, and they get right up to the edge of the temple of Morgan Gork. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, God, surprise. [SPEAKER_01]: Because you know what the best way to be awesome when you're wish to be Gork and Mark, make the whole temple a giant. [SPEAKER_00]: Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the temple is out. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the temple, the temple gets up. [SPEAKER_00]: and begins shooting at them and just starts wrecking shop because they're fighting what might be the largest titan in the galaxy powered by the orcs. [SPEAKER_01]: It did it did a brave hard on it. [SPEAKER_01]: Willie Wallace was shooting fireballs out of his eyes and lightning bolts from his eyes. [SPEAKER_01]: He was actually doing that and they described it as a matter of fact in the book. [SPEAKER_00]: That history, it does shoot lasers out of its eyes, which was super cool. [SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan then decides, again, all right, I'm gonna solve this. [SPEAKER_00]: And Vulcan leads because he's Brad's favorite primarque. [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, Brad, what's the equipment Vulcan uses here? [SPEAKER_01]: This is so silly. [SPEAKER_01]: He did a spy versus spy. [SPEAKER_01]: He jumped out of a plane. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Vulcan leads an airborne assault. [SPEAKER_00]: flying planes into the giant gargant and jumping out of the plane. [SPEAKER_01]: He didn't have a jump pack. [SPEAKER_01]: He didn't have anything. [SPEAKER_01]: He just jumped out of a plane. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: It was a rate of fire with a Makati. [SPEAKER_01]: He jumps at a dragon with the worst plan ever of money hit something of the air there. [SPEAKER_00]: I forgot how bad that movie was. [SPEAKER_01]: When you're like, he could have just moved any way. [SPEAKER_01]: You would have just died pointlessly. [SPEAKER_01]: But Vulcan doesn't. [SPEAKER_01]: He lands. [SPEAKER_00]: Yep. [SPEAKER_00]: And Vulcan lands. [SPEAKER_00]: And luckily, it's not that protracted of a battle. [SPEAKER_00]: It just montage time. [SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan and crew lose almost lose, but claim victory. [SPEAKER_00]: like over and over and over again, and they push the way to the core of the structure. [SPEAKER_00]: And when they get to the core, they find a ten-meter tall statue of an orc to an orc. [SPEAKER_00]: This is the statue to the beast. [SPEAKER_00]: except that it's not. [SPEAKER_01]: It is, it is. [SPEAKER_01]: But also, but you have to go back just to pick, because when they fought through, this isn't a small thing. [SPEAKER_01]: They fought Stompas inside the Stompas. [SPEAKER_00]: That's true. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I forgot about that yet. [SPEAKER_00]: They were fighting, because we're talking about a mega gargant, which is the size of a city almost, and they're fighting Gorkenauts, Morganauts, and Stompas walking around said city. [SPEAKER_00]: They're fighting war bosses that are almost Vulcan's size. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's just, but it's a, you know, there's a really great music going on behind this. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, he says, I think this is definitely, Toledo could definitely be a mega gargant. [SPEAKER_00]: No. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm saying no because Toledo hasn't earned that right. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, so they find this massive ten meter statue to do the beast and it turns out it's not a statue to the beast. [SPEAKER_00]: It is the beast. [SPEAKER_00]: The beast is a three-story building ork who's covered in mega armor who stands up and they just this is the largest ork by the way ever recorded in Imperial history to this day. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, but is he? [SPEAKER_00]: He's not a court. [SPEAKER_00]: And we're gonna cover that in the next episode. [SPEAKER_00]: He's not a court. [SPEAKER_00]: We do get in a different book. [SPEAKER_00]: We get clarification on that. [SPEAKER_00]: And I will give you guys all that in the next episode. [SPEAKER_00]: But as soon as the beast stands up, the space Marines start trying to attack it. [SPEAKER_00]: And he kills two chapter masters basically instantly. [SPEAKER_00]: The chapter master, the crimson fists and the ultramarines just died. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm calling this out because this is like in the movie when the guy that you've never talked to before goes, [SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure hoping to get back home to my family and you're like, back, I will die instantaneously. [SPEAKER_01]: Both of these guys knows the same thing. [SPEAKER_01]: They're like, oh, I love my men and they're great fighting forces and everything's going to be perfect. [SPEAKER_01]: You're like, you guys are going to die in like three pages. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, effectively. [SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, these books don't have when you buy a novel from Black Library, there's no pictures in it, but these guys were wearing red shirts. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, sure, one bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch of bunch [SPEAKER_00]: Bowman is a very seriously black Templar character. [SPEAKER_00]: He is grumpy and he yells at everybody all the time. [SPEAKER_01]: He's right, a thousand percent of this because he calls Coral it out for being a coward in abandoning him. [SPEAKER_00]: But he's not wrong. [SPEAKER_00]: Who's not wrong? [SPEAKER_00]: This is the smart move. [SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan is going to kill the beast. [SPEAKER_00]: We're all going to die because the beast that in Vulcan are fighting, literally, if the beast turns too hard to the left, he'll kill a chapter master, just by bouncing and doing. [SPEAKER_00]: So maybe we give these guys some space. [SPEAKER_00]: Settle down your rattling sniper and your known bravery. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Vulcan's also a perpetual. [SPEAKER_00]: You know who's not a perpetual? [SPEAKER_00]: Anyone else in the room? [SPEAKER_01]: That is the least moving speech that's ever been given. [SPEAKER_01]: Guys, here's the thing. [SPEAKER_01]: Just let him fight because if he wins, it's cool. [SPEAKER_01]: If he loses, it'll just come back. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no big deal. [SPEAKER_00]: It's you, a ten of your buddies and the biggest strongest one of your buddies is also a high-lander. [SPEAKER_00]: Why don't we just let the highlander fight? [SPEAKER_00]: Why do we have to die? [SPEAKER_00]: Because the guy he's fighting is not a highlander and therefore won't cut his head off. [SPEAKER_00]: I think we got time. [SPEAKER_00]: So this actually gets funny. [SPEAKER_00]: He goes, Corlan and Bowman get into it. [SPEAKER_00]: And Bowman knocks into the ground and stands over him. [SPEAKER_00]: It's our basically yelling at him. [SPEAKER_00]: And Bowman to his credit back star at this point. [SPEAKER_00]: But just want to point out if we get to look, because this is going to come up a few different times, Bowman is not happy about this. [SPEAKER_00]: But they do leave. [SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan the beast have their duel to some Japanese anime music. [SPEAKER_00]: Because that's all this fight is. [SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan eventually says the I'm a perpetual are you and grabs the beast and tackles it into the generator. [SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: the whole thing explodes. [SPEAKER_00]: And it detonates the core, the gargant explodes. [SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan does actually die this time. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, sort of this says, well, Vulcan does one of his deaths were Vulcan died. [SPEAKER_00]: Disappearing X. Exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: And it doesn't reappear immediately. [SPEAKER_00]: So there's somewhere Vulcan is now somewhere else that's not here. [SPEAKER_00]: who knows where, but this does cut the wall. [SPEAKER_00]: So all the works on the planet become a listless mob. [SPEAKER_00]: And this allows Imperial forces to retreat. [SPEAKER_00]: They actually, they don't just go back to orbit. [SPEAKER_00]: They go all the way back to Terra from this battle. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is because they took a brutal amount of losses here. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's talk about the thing on that, because this is the first time that you've ever seen some late. [SPEAKER_01]: That, for all you Star Wars fans, the beast was effectively using battle meditation on everybody, which is why it was such a huge loss of why. [SPEAKER_01]: Because typically, you lose the log because you cut off the head and it slowly kind of goes away. [SPEAKER_01]: In this particular scenario, they just, it wasn't they didn't stop fighting at all, but they kind of just lost all wheel to fight. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, what's interesting is the Imperium has this moment where the orcs are all listless, but they've taken so much losses. [SPEAKER_00]: They actually can't attack. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's usually that he is, if your opponents are sitting there, just standing still, you wander around and just shoot them all in the head. [SPEAKER_00]: But the Imperium didn't have enough people or bullets to do that. [SPEAKER_00]: So they had to leave. [SPEAKER_00]: And the plan was to go, it was to come back again later and wipe them out. [SPEAKER_00]: So they go all the way back to terror. [SPEAKER_00]: will be right back after a quick break. [SPEAKER_00]: We're back on Tara and it's, it's not really much of a, it's a pretty pure victory because the beast is dead. [SPEAKER_00]: Hurray. [SPEAKER_00]: Vulcan's gone. [SPEAKER_00]: They've lost two chapter masters. [SPEAKER_00]: The crimson fists and so between the ultra marines and the crimson fists who are now short handed. [SPEAKER_00]: Get it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, look, let's talk about who actually took the most losses, because the Marines are like, we lost so many people. [SPEAKER_01]: The Imperial Guard went, oh my God, it was a, we walked, we jumped into a wood shipper, so many Imperial guards would die. [SPEAKER_00]: And the Imperial Navy and the Ad Mack means they're catastrophic losses. [SPEAKER_00]: And the problem is, as we just said, the Orcs are still out there. [SPEAKER_00]: They're less organized, but there's still trillions of them that have to get dealt with. [SPEAKER_00]: But things get worse. [SPEAKER_00]: And what gets worse is suddenly every Vox channel in the Imperium. [SPEAKER_00]: I actually, I could be wrong. [SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was the Imperium, but it may have just been on Terra during the Soul System. [SPEAKER_00]: It's, I couldn't quite grasp it, I was reading, because everybody's books a long time ago. [SPEAKER_00]: And so I had to go back there and re-read to Cliff Notes. [SPEAKER_00]: But what you get is, I am slaughter. [SPEAKER_00]: I am slaughter. [SPEAKER_00]: I am slaughter on repeat. [SPEAKER_00]: Now we know that either the beast has lived, or with everyone really, but kind of quarantine team think happened is that one of the thousands of war bosses has stepped into take its place. [SPEAKER_00]: But either way, the orc menace is not over. [SPEAKER_00]: However, got kind of a problem, guys. [SPEAKER_00]: The space marine legions just took close to a fifty percent losses. [SPEAKER_00]: So those chapters, they're below functioning strength. [SPEAKER_00]: They can't fight at these levels. [SPEAKER_00]: To in order to redeploy, to Illinois, they'd have to recruit other chapters. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, reform into new ones. [SPEAKER_00]: So now we're going to get into the death watch. [SPEAKER_00]: We covered death watch at Pirates episode, but it's more fun to do it again this way. [SPEAKER_00]: Corland has this idea. [SPEAKER_00]: What he realizes is that in the war with the orcs, he's struggling because they had to engage in force. [SPEAKER_00]: This is the way the space marines fight. [SPEAKER_00]: They deploy themselves with heavy weapons, support teams, et cetera, all at once. [SPEAKER_00]: And the goal of a space marine fighting forces to overwhelm is the overwhelmed their foes with force and with numbers. [SPEAKER_00]: The challenge is that in order to fight the orcs, what they needed was small groups of five or ten Marines to deploy in specific, very tactical missions. [SPEAKER_00]: Missions that themselves wouldn't do anything, but when done in sequence with a lot of other missions can actually reshape a battle. [SPEAKER_01]: especially as to though because they were specifically designed. [SPEAKER_01]: They put these kill teams together to do a specific thing. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, specific type of fo blow up a specific type of thing and they would send them boom, do your thing at the hell out. [SPEAKER_01]: You weren't responsible for anything else in this. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is something that Space Marines really didn't do. [SPEAKER_00]: So his idea was, all form his little kill teams. [SPEAKER_00]: And those things like Brad's point, they're going to disrupt supply lines. [SPEAKER_00]: They're going to mess with communication. [SPEAKER_00]: They might, you know, just working kill a key, a war boss, in this case, or a key foe. [SPEAKER_00]: And the idea is really good, but there's a huge problem. [SPEAKER_00]: These are space marines. [SPEAKER_00]: So they would have to be led by a space marine, because space marines only take orders of space marines. [SPEAKER_00]: That's just one of their things. [SPEAKER_00]: And what he's proposing is to create a new branch of the space marines, which the lords of Terra were not okay with. [SPEAKER_00]: Much, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And the reason they're not okay with it is that this would effectively be the most elite fighting force in the galaxy outside of the custodes. [SPEAKER_00]: And they didn't really want it being an independent body. [SPEAKER_00]: And to their, right, say their defense, let me say it this way. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying they're right. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they're not. [SPEAKER_01]: But let me refresh. [SPEAKER_01]: We're quite for everybody. [SPEAKER_01]: When they're forming this, the death watch, they're talking about taking people from all the different chapters and reigns, but they're best in the brightest, their best candidates. [SPEAKER_01]: This is why it's so scary because not only are you creating a new branch or creating a new branch of the best of every chapter is going to be outside of any control for us. [SPEAKER_00]: And to defend the lords of terror, the reason they're thinking this way as it stands today, they had no control over the space marines, or the custodes, or the assassins. [SPEAKER_00]: That part's going to be a problem later. [SPEAKER_00]: Adding, adding another collection of it's basically unstoppable killing machines, the list of things they have no control over, and by the way, don't like them very much, wasn't great. [SPEAKER_00]: Of course, they put to a vote, and Corden loses badly. [SPEAKER_00]: He actually only gets one vote in favor, and that's from Van Gourge, who's the head of the assassins. [SPEAKER_00]: So it looks like this is over, but remember that attack moon above Terra that the bunch of space marines conquered and beat will never got destroyed. [SPEAKER_00]: And it suddenly reactivates and a bunch of orgs start popping out of it. [SPEAKER_00]: Could the admec have disassembled it and turned it off? [SPEAKER_00]: Probably. [SPEAKER_01]: Did they throw it into the sun? [SPEAKER_01]: They left it there. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: I just been sitting there. [SPEAKER_00]: So a new broadcast comes out to tear it. [SPEAKER_00]: It's the beast. [SPEAKER_00]: He's telling him that I'm here to slaughter all of humanity. [SPEAKER_00]: So Coralan says, hey guys, remember that vote we just had? [SPEAKER_00]: Any chance you're willing to have a second vote on it. [SPEAKER_00]: And this time around the Lords of Terror. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, you're super special for us. [SPEAKER_00]: I'll fight the works that I'm now looking at. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, cool, cool, cool, cool. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm going to vote yes. [SPEAKER_00]: But there was one small change. [SPEAKER_00]: And this does matter more. [SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't really matter for this cast, but matters to the future. [SPEAKER_00]: Insights up Koran made one sacrifice. [SPEAKER_00]: The sacrifice he made was that this new chapter of space marines would be led by space marines, but it would be under the inquisition. [SPEAKER_00]: It would not be a truly independent body. [SPEAKER_00]: This way, the lords of terror, because the inquisition is part of the Hyloids of terror, would still have some level of control over it. [SPEAKER_00]: Important thing to note, by the way, is that none of the lords of terror know the great night's exist. [SPEAKER_00]: So this is now the second chapter that the inquisitions getting, but the only people who know that are the inquisition and a few chapter masters. [SPEAKER_00]: So all their survivors of the first Olinor siege signed up to join this new force called the death watch and they paint their armor black as a tribute to their fallen brothers and for people like me to paint my army a lot faster. [SPEAKER_01]: They did do the shoulder pads though to let you know where they were from. [SPEAKER_00]: They do, but I'll tell you what, man, it is really nice painting. [SPEAKER_00]: Death watch, it is not a complicated process if you were doing it quickly. [SPEAKER_01]: So, some black armor. [SPEAKER_01]: Go, go, go. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: A simple model, Abadon black rattle can. [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm now one third of the way done. [SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, if you want to know more about death, watch by the way guys, episode seventy and seventy one are the ones that recovered them. [SPEAKER_00]: So you can go back listen to them. [SPEAKER_00]: We went very in depth. [SPEAKER_00]: For this story, the Death Watch deployed the moon and they did some work. [SPEAKER_00]: The Imperial Navy kind of flies around the moon and keeps the works just contained so they can't get down to Terra. [SPEAKER_00]: And the Death Watch deploy weaponry from the ADMEC, and as we said last one, the ADMEC wanted the teleportation technology from the works and they stole it. [SPEAKER_00]: And so what they've done was they'd actually created their own version of this tech that would allow them to teleport large things all around it. [SPEAKER_00]: So they gave it to the deathwatch and hey, just deploy these beacons, whatever it is. [SPEAKER_00]: And then once they're activated, we're going to try to teleport this moon into the sun. [SPEAKER_00]: Problem solved. [SPEAKER_00]: Everyone's like, yeah, this is awesome. [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, Brad, how functional is AdMect technology? [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, sometimes you're going to roll the dice. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's not, it's, let's say it's not a two to six you're rolling. [SPEAKER_01]: You're going to need to, you're going to need to, hard six. [SPEAKER_01]: I actually think we're going to have to get some percent tell dice out for the D&D folks. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, when the teleportation is activated, half of the moon teleports to another galaxy. [SPEAKER_01]: Yep. [SPEAKER_01]: But it, by by the, I really, really think there's a couple of ad back guys. [SPEAKER_01]: It would all the death watch and everybody else was asking how this is going to work. [SPEAKER_01]: They all went very confidently. [SPEAKER_01]: It's going to work kind of maybe probably you. [SPEAKER_01]: I, I'm going to back up just a little bit because they had no idea. [SPEAKER_00]: It's that scene in a ghost busters where he turns on the proton pack and the guys in the elevator and it's just leaning away from it. [SPEAKER_00]: That's [SPEAKER_00]: basically where the admec were here. [SPEAKER_00]: So they flip the switch and again half the planet teleports away. [SPEAKER_00]: The issue is this not structurally sound so that now the remaining half of the orc attack moon collapses in on itself and debris because remember this is in the atmosphere of Terra just starts raining down on Terra millions of citizens die to the falling debris. [SPEAKER_01]: Oops. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, my bad. [SPEAKER_01]: That's not big guys. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: I'd make those razor hands say, well, I mean, we did say turn it on slowly. [SPEAKER_00]: So the good news is the imminent or invasion of Tara has again been ceased. [SPEAKER_00]: The bad news is the beast is alive. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, something about that. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, despite the success of the kill teams, Corland still couldn't attack Olenor because the last time they were there, they got overwhelmed. [SPEAKER_00]: And this time, they had even less stuff to bring. [SPEAKER_00]: So he needs a secret weapon to fight the Yorks. [SPEAKER_00]: And what they realized was they had to fight the power of the war. [SPEAKER_00]: Because as they saw once the beast went down, it was easier to do it. [SPEAKER_00]: But gang crew, I'm going to be tough. [SPEAKER_00]: So they had to figure out how we can fight the war. [SPEAKER_00]: And the war is so powerful. [SPEAKER_00]: They had literally [SPEAKER_00]: Imperial Psychers can't get through it. [SPEAKER_00]: So it's burning out librarians. [SPEAKER_00]: They had to fear different tactic. [SPEAKER_00]: And now, inquisitor Veritas, we mentioned before, this we have two inquisitors here. [SPEAKER_00]: And Veritas is at this point like a fifteen hundred years old, so he knows all the secrets. [SPEAKER_00]: So he comes up with another idea. [SPEAKER_00]: And after the end of the Horus Heresy, the Sisters of Silence actually became outcast of the Imperium. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why, by the way, but they just useful against all of your main foes. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and they were just outcasted by the Imperium for what seems to be no reason. [SPEAKER_00]: Quick recap, scissors of silence are called that because they carry the pariah gene, which makes them blanks. [SPEAKER_00]: blanks create a negative space in the warp, and so that negates the powers of sikers or anything, trying even get power from the warp. [SPEAKER_00]: If you put a blank next to a siker, they can't cast powers, because they can no longer touch the warp. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, except for the given the other part, if even if you're not a psycher and a sister of silence is near you, they create an aura of dread depression. [SPEAKER_01]: Sadness, everything around you has is lifeless and no longer worth living. [SPEAKER_01]: So they're not somebody that you invite over, say to your parties. [SPEAKER_01]: Which is why you keep them away from everybody else. [SPEAKER_00]: And so that's kind of hinted as to why they left it. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, after the end of the horse heresy, we weren't needed getting that the second guys. [SPEAKER_00]: And so therefore we're just going to go off to the other side of the galaxy. [SPEAKER_00]: not needed by the way. [SPEAKER_00]: They were one of the emperor's elite forces. [SPEAKER_00]: It's them and the custodes were together. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if they went on a, you could turn them at picnic. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, the emperor has been interned the golden throne. [SPEAKER_00]: And I guess they had no formal group to be part of. [SPEAKER_00]: They still were on all the black ships by the way, but [SPEAKER_00]: And because the Astro Telepathica loved them, but it's a very small number. [SPEAKER_00]: They leave the Imperium's core and they settle some fringe worlds to go just, I guess, hang out and farm. [SPEAKER_01]: Also, there's a news that all of them were there instantaneously. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he knew. [SPEAKER_01]: So this is, you know, going Brad rant on because [SPEAKER_01]: You have one of your most rare, most powerful weapons. [SPEAKER_01]: And you went, hey, they should all live on Naboo, hang out, be in farmers with no defenses. [SPEAKER_01]: So if anybody went, that's a terrible, powerful weapon that they could use against me. [SPEAKER_01]: I'll just go down there and they'll throw sticks at me because we left them with no defense. [SPEAKER_01]: This is the dumbest idea ever. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's to Brad's foreshadowing the route in the segment in Pacificus, which is the far left of the galaxy. [SPEAKER_00]: And as Corland and the team go out there, they discover the orcs are also there. [SPEAKER_00]: The orcs had sensed the presence of, like I'm sorry, the lack of presence of the sisters is by the way of saying it and went there to kill them. [SPEAKER_00]: The Corland and team saved the sisters, but then found the sort of silence were less than thrilled to join him. [SPEAKER_00]: Probably because they've been outcasted by the Imperium, and they weren't anti-imperium, but they also weren't throw lords of terror in Perium. [SPEAKER_01]: They also were pretty mad that the Emperor personally had said, this is what I want my empire to be. [SPEAKER_01]: And well, it's not right now. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I will say reading the data screws of what's been going on since they left the Imperium didn't go great. [SPEAKER_00]: The sisters effectively say to him, we'd rather watch this version of the Imperium burn down than help it. [SPEAKER_00]: Socks, because this is everything that we hate, because the sisters of silence are extremists in their belief of the Emperor. [SPEAKER_00]: Corland agreed with them about the Imperium as a whole. [SPEAKER_00]: And he says, look, the only way we can save the Imperium, though, is to write this ship and defeat the org threat. [SPEAKER_00]: And he justifies himself to them by saying, look, Vulcan was just here, and he agreed with me. [SPEAKER_01]: The name drop, the crap on a volcano. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Which is also funny because, and I, again, the book doesn't do this and I wish they had because he's talking about, we have Vulcan reappeared. [SPEAKER_00]: He's fighting with us. [SPEAKER_00]: The most noble primarck was on our cause. [SPEAKER_00]: And none of us just said, great. [SPEAKER_00]: Where is he right now? [SPEAKER_00]: Which should have been the next question. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, so the Vulcan's with you? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Can I talk to him? [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, he died. [SPEAKER_00]: I have no idea where he is right now. [SPEAKER_00]: And he didn't come back to help you again. [SPEAKER_00]: No, why? [SPEAKER_00]: Cool. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's in. [SPEAKER_01]: Dude, I have to give you credit. [SPEAKER_01]: Audir show notes. [SPEAKER_01]: There's never been a more accurate. [SPEAKER_01]: What's going on? [SPEAKER_01]: That what you say right now? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they agreed. [SPEAKER_00]: The sisters of silence agreed and they put together an A team style plan to go do this. [SPEAKER_00]: Not McGyver. [SPEAKER_00]: McGyver would make a small thing. [SPEAKER_00]: This is full blown. [SPEAKER_00]: A team is lost at garage and is going to attack with a very strange track. [SPEAKER_00]: Just trying to fly that tank. [SPEAKER_00]: Which again, by the way, guys, for our longer listeners, eight teams and others show, don't go back and rewatch it. [SPEAKER_00]: It will ruin you. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not good. [SPEAKER_00]: It's okay. [SPEAKER_00]: It's better than some other ones, but it's not that good. [SPEAKER_00]: But you're talking about a level when a plan comes together. [SPEAKER_00]: It's a lot of great things, but again, they throw grenades at people and the guys jump through the air and get a concussion. [SPEAKER_00]: So that's how grenades work, everybody knows that. [SPEAKER_00]: So the imperium decides to make an antimatter bomb for like a better phrase. [SPEAKER_00]: They're going to use the pariah power of the scissors of silence and they're going to combine it with [SPEAKER_00]: or quatt energy, and it's going to create a negative or quatt energy. [SPEAKER_00]: And if this negative or quatt energy hits the real y energy, it'll explode backwards and destroy all the works. [SPEAKER_00]: And they actually test it for once, go add Mac on testing, and it works. [SPEAKER_00]: So they decide, we've got it. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's go. [SPEAKER_00]: By the way, they tested it one time. [SPEAKER_00]: one time. [SPEAKER_00]: It did work. [SPEAKER_00]: I did it burned. [SPEAKER_00]: That's the that they usually do. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, true. [SPEAKER_00]: So that this is their new weapon. [SPEAKER_00]: This is a new tactic. [SPEAKER_00]: They go back to Illinois. [SPEAKER_00]: This time they're bringing more space Marines, but the problems are being less support. [SPEAKER_00]: So this less garden in less Navy, and that's actually important because [SPEAKER_00]: We talked about numbers for the guard, for example, the guard's been outnumbered the space marines, one million to one. [SPEAKER_00]: So when we said we're bringing a hundred percent more space marines, but fifty percent less guard, that's an astronomical reduction in force size. [SPEAKER_00]: They decide, though, that since they don't have as many people, they need to sneak up on UlanR. [SPEAKER_00]: And they decide to go very, very sneaky style by using... This is a black shade for parts of the, of this scene. [SPEAKER_01]: I know, though. [SPEAKER_01]: Because they use the black ships, which are cloaked. [SPEAKER_01]: and are effectively immune to being stride by, you know, using psychors. [SPEAKER_01]: And so they just kind of cruise in right to all in order with absolutely nothing. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: And their plan actually is pretty cool. [SPEAKER_00]: So what they decide to do is that force fields still an issue. [SPEAKER_00]: So what we're going to do is we don't have the guns to blow through that force field. [SPEAKER_00]: And if we try to, the orcs will attack us. [SPEAKER_00]: So they bring a bunch of derelict ships, which, by the way, is GW loves this tactic, by the way. [SPEAKER_00]: It comes up in so many books. [SPEAKER_00]: What if I just crash a ship into it, it comes up a lot, just quit quotes here. [SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, Katie, but it happens, I think three different times during the horror series, just in the invasion of soul. [SPEAKER_00]: This is how your brain escapes the camera. [SPEAKER_00]: This is there always go to crash ship into thing, you know, then success. [SPEAKER_00]: But so Corland does this, they crash the ships. [SPEAKER_00]: So Corland brings a bunch of derelict ships and they crash them all into the planet to overload the force field. [SPEAKER_00]: Then Corland and himself and some death watch kill teams in a bunch of very short-term characters, very short-term characters, all deployed out of the surface to kill the beast. [SPEAKER_01]: I see. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, all right, this is guy. [SPEAKER_01]: This is guy one. [SPEAKER_01]: This is guy two. [SPEAKER_01]: This is guy three. [SPEAKER_00]: The writers of these books spent more time thinking up their names than they did the rest of their entire existence. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just the opening. [SPEAKER_00]: So now they go. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is now the opening of any action movie. [SPEAKER_00]: You get introduced to a bunch of people who you get their name and you know pretty quickly that all of them are going to die because they don't it's just this is my name. [SPEAKER_00]: This is what makes me the world's greatest fighter the world's best survivalists. [SPEAKER_01]: This is the second suicide squad movie with you know the guys and everyone. [SPEAKER_00]: By the way, for anyone who doesn't know about this, the very first suicide squad movie was hot, hot, hot garbage. [SPEAKER_00]: Like one of the worst in the remaining. [SPEAKER_00]: The second one is ethically funny. [SPEAKER_00]: Please go watch it. [SPEAKER_00]: The opening scene alone is hilarious. [SPEAKER_00]: And then the John Cena versus Idris Ilba is Magnifique. [SPEAKER_00]: That whole scene. [SPEAKER_01]: Where's all my phone? [SPEAKER_01]: And at the end, where's all my bed? [SPEAKER_01]: No one like rated. [SPEAKER_01]: Didn't alarm. [SPEAKER_01]: What? [SPEAKER_00]: They must be gone. [SPEAKER_00]: Even so best to still own playing the shark. [SPEAKER_00]: Fantastic. [SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, let's get on to the second invasion of Olinore. [SPEAKER_00]: As always, the initial phase goes off without a hitch. [SPEAKER_00]: The ship's crash in, the force foot overloads, then they open up an orbital bombardment, taking out all the best surface to air defenses, correlate its team, transport into the temple, and then it all falls apart pretty quickly. [SPEAKER_00]: The beast has set an intrapetrap. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Brutal book cutting. [SPEAKER_01]: Man, these guys suck at planning. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, because for one, two, three, four, well, in the books, this would be the fifth time that the Imperium went, oh no, we followed it to another trap. [SPEAKER_00]: because I'm assuming that he was sitting in a black robe going, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, [SPEAKER_00]: they land on the planet immediately after landing inside of the tempers to force me reactivates into the reactivates and entire orc our moda comes out of nowhere and begins attacking them in orbit so Corland is team are looking out the death star window at all their friends being murdered sorry it's just it is it's not verbatim but it's just [SPEAKER_00]: So, Corland recognizes he's been tricked by the beast. [SPEAKER_01]: Also, this is not lame I have. [SPEAKER_01]: He's your like, this is such a riff off of the return of the Jedi. [SPEAKER_01]: I love every part about this. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's a great book, and it'd be fair. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's give them some credit here. [SPEAKER_00]: They ripped off a turn of the Jedi. [SPEAKER_00]: They didn't rip off Phantom Menace. [SPEAKER_00]: They ripped off one of the better movies ever made. [SPEAKER_00]: So it's, oh, hey, this scene here reminds me of on the waterfront. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you mean the best movie ever made in history. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, it's simply a fair. [SPEAKER_00]: It's fair to steal, but maybe don't rip off the movie Enders game. [SPEAKER_00]: I just do that on occasion. [SPEAKER_00]: That's the piss breath of. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm just also just recommended to me in my movies. [SPEAKER_00]: Bye, bye, bye. [SPEAKER_00]: You would like this, wouldn't you? [SPEAKER_00]: So, Corland recognizes that he's been tricked by the beast, but he knows that he can't pull out because then they're just dead. [SPEAKER_00]: So he and the squad press forward and they're going to kill the beast and they're going to deploy their super secret weapon. [SPEAKER_00]: And there's just a plethora of many battles here until the assassination for us reaches the inner sanctum of the work fortress. [SPEAKER_00]: And when they get in there, they see there are six banners coming down from six statues to orcs. [SPEAKER_00]: These are actually statues this time. [SPEAKER_00]: That part there being six we're going to cover on our next episode, but it is important. [SPEAKER_00]: Once they're there amongst all of these banners is a massive work in mega armor. [SPEAKER_00]: And given the last time, it took a primer to kill one of these [SPEAKER_00]: Things aren't looking great. [SPEAKER_00]: The kill team engaged the beast not to kill it because they were like, they killed it. [SPEAKER_01]: They're stalling for time. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, the sisters of silence start enacting their ritual. [SPEAKER_00]: And let's go with the good news. [SPEAKER_00]: The good news is the ritual goes off. [SPEAKER_00]: It creates massive feedback all across the surface of Olinore. [SPEAKER_00]: It overwhelms the brains of a lot of the orcs. [SPEAKER_00]: And it doesn't kill them, but it makes them just not paralyzed. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, a lot of the, one of the weird boys just died, though. [SPEAKER_01]: So like, [SPEAKER_01]: This was a huge amount of problems. [SPEAKER_00]: But my point is it doesn't kill the orcs. [SPEAKER_00]: Coral and seize this moment and seize the beast kind of almost fell and runs over and kills it. [SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, celebration I killed the beast. [SPEAKER_00]: then part two happens. [SPEAKER_00]: The beast is lying on the floor and allowed sound comes from the side of the room and a larger beast comes walking in. [SPEAKER_00]: This one looks identical to the one that Vulcan killed and it speaks. [SPEAKER_00]: You hate this so much. [SPEAKER_01]: I need everybody to know. [SPEAKER_01]: You'll see it when we do our next Q today. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm getting, I'm summoning my Qi right now. [SPEAKER_00]: Because what's about to happen? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Go ahead. [SPEAKER_00]: The new beast speaks high gothic and he begins a bad guy monologue to the group. [SPEAKER_00]: He explains the corpsman that he killed one of his six primorcs. [SPEAKER_00]: Then after explaining the primarke thing, which does genuinely gave me like, doos chills when I read that, he then kills Corland by stepping on him and crushing him under his boot. [SPEAKER_00]: The rest of the group engages combat. [SPEAKER_00]: They were able to pull Corland's dead body out and they flee back to Terra, marking the second invasion of Olinore, a complete and total failure. [SPEAKER_00]: Go team. [SPEAKER_00]: with that guys, we're going to break. [SPEAKER_00]: And the reason we're going to break is because our next cast, we're going to do the conclusion of the war of the beast, but like the wars themselves, but more importantly, recover the aftermath because I want to spend some time talking about not only, yeah, [SPEAKER_00]: how this affected Tara and the impairment of the short term, but also the galaxy at large. [SPEAKER_00]: This affects the orcs, this affects the elder, this affects everything. [SPEAKER_00]: And the next one we're going to is the last invasion of all the spoiler-the-imperium wins. [SPEAKER_00]: These probably figured out for so plain because we're still playing the game. [SPEAKER_00]: But I want to spend some serious time talking about how this [SPEAKER_00]: one event shaped all of Forty Kay lore, because that's what makes it really critical. [SPEAKER_00]: But until then, this has been John Barzati and Brad Chester. [SPEAKER_00]: See you next week.
