<v Speaker 2>And he was also Chief Gormanda's second pair of arms.
<v Speaker 3>And I wonder he was reluctant to give it Urt
<v Speaker 3>Carney a kiss.
<v Speaker 2>Already been hugging on the back of Carvey Korman.
<v Speaker 3>Okay, do we want to talk about Mark Hamill in makeup?
<v Speaker 2>He had some guyliner going on, didn't he?

<v Speaker 2>It's really bad. Have you seen the pictures where they
<v Speaker 2>like change the characters from Star Wars into the opposite gender,

<v Speaker 2>like their women. When I saw this, I was like,
<v Speaker 2>holy crap, this is where they got the idea, because
<v Speaker 2>he's he's got some major makeup going on in this one.
<v Speaker 9>Well, and I felt a little bad. Like one of
<v Speaker 9>the first times I saw that, I was like, what
<v Speaker 9>did they do? Like why did they just they?
<v Speaker 4>They? They?
<v Speaker 9>I don't know, He's got at least like seven coats on,
<v Speaker 9>Like the first couple didn't take so they just kept going.
<v Speaker 9>And but then I kind of felt bad about that
<v Speaker 9>because I'm like, then I read up something on it
<v Speaker 9>and they're like well, it could have been because he
<v Speaker 9>was in that really bad car accident and he needed
<v Speaker 9>to have some additional makeup or yeah, so that maybe
<v Speaker 9>I read something. I don't know how valid that is
<v Speaker 9>or how accurate that is, but one of the things
<v Speaker 9>I read said he was in such heavy makeup because
<v Speaker 9>he had been in that near fatal car crash in
<v Speaker 9>Oh gosh, it was right. It was not long after,
<v Speaker 9>or actually right before Star Wars came out in seventy seven.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, so it was the year before.
<v Speaker 3>See that's yeah, I don't buy that for one second,
<v Speaker 3>because you don't need eye liner to cover facial scars,
<v Speaker 3>and he didn't wear all that crap and then fire
<v Speaker 3>strikes back.
<v Speaker 4>Yep, you guys are right.
<v Speaker 2>It's January of seventy seven is when he into that accident.
<v Speaker 9>But now just a terrifying amount of makeup, so orange
<v Speaker 9>he looks like franken Furder from Rocky Horror Picture Show.
<v Speaker 3>Can we talk? Are we ready to talk about Carrie
<v Speaker 3>Fisher singing voices.

<v Speaker 5>Ho day.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>I loved it, Yeah, I loved it. And I loved
<v Speaker 2>that she looked like she was as high as a
<v Speaker 2>king too. She's stone out of her gourd.
<v Speaker 3>Listen, this is the last time that Carrie Fisher smiled
<v Speaker 3>in any Star Wars anything. She was sad and Empire
<v Speaker 3>strikes back. She was sad and returned the Jedi. She
<v Speaker 3>was at least happy.
<v Speaker 9>Yeah, yeah, no, I mean that that scene in particular,
<v Speaker 9>that was probably the the only for me, the only
<v Speaker 9>couple of segments or scenes that made some of it bearable.
<v Speaker 9>Like if I was gonna fast forward and I know,
<v Speaker 9>I don't remember who it was earlier, that might have
<v Speaker 9>been Dentis or I somebody else was saying to me,
<v Speaker 9>I don't know.
<v Speaker 4>The b Arthur scene.
<v Speaker 9>If you take out the weird you know, sexual harassment
<v Speaker 9>from the guy who drinks through his head. If you
<v Speaker 9>take that out, to me, that wasn't even a bad scene.
<v Speaker 9>I mean, if you're gonna do you're gonna do something
<v Speaker 9>in the Star Wars canteena at least that one takes
<v Speaker 9>place in a Star Wars location, and you've got Star
<v Speaker 9>Wars characters. Like some of the other acts, they're not
<v Speaker 9>they're completely devoid of Star Wars. Like you could remove
<v Speaker 9>it from the Star Wars Holiday special, dump dump it
<v Speaker 9>in some other holiday special and it would have been
<v Speaker 9>totally fine. So the b Arthur song like that was
<v Speaker 9>actually one of my I don't want to say favorite,
<v Speaker 9>that's really too strong of a word, but that was
<v Speaker 9>that was one of the most tolerable parts parts of
<v Speaker 9>this whole thing. And then the Princess Leah part too.
<v Speaker 9>Like everything else, I totally tossed that out the window.
<v Speaker 9>Those to me, that in the in the bolb of
<v Speaker 9>Het cartoon, which I'm sure we'll talk about too, but
<v Speaker 9>those are really like the only three parts that I'm
<v Speaker 9>even quasi okay with in this whole thing.
<v Speaker 2>I kind of dig the Jefferson Starship song I thought
<v Speaker 2>that was and it kind of looks like he's trying
<v Speaker 2>to impale his head with a lightsaber while he's singing it.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, if only they would have sung we built this city.
<v Speaker 3>That would have helped.
<v Speaker 4>They could have switched up there.
<v Speaker 9>They probably didn't want to spoil anything, but they could
<v Speaker 9>have done we built cloud City.
<v Speaker 3>Oh, that would have been great.

<v Speaker 3>One of the things that I thought was funny. Okay, So,
<v Speaker 3>mister star Wars gig John, does it bother you that
<v Speaker 3>they called the wikie planet Kazook the whole time.
<v Speaker 9>Well yeah, I mean yeah, I kind of I kind
<v Speaker 9>of knew about that, so I just kind of was like,
<v Speaker 9>all right, all right, it had never been mentioned before.
<v Speaker 9>Well we'll chalk this up as a well, I'm just
<v Speaker 9>gonna chalk it up as a hand han Leah Leah.

<v Speaker 9>It's people don't know how to pronounce names in the
<v Speaker 9>Star Wars universe, so I'm totally fine.
<v Speaker 3>With the death of that stormtrooper would not be noticed
<v Speaker 3>apparently by anyone.
<v Speaker 10>It's like, I'm gonna say, the one thing that helped
<v Speaker 10>is when Hans solok the one thing that made me laugh.
<v Speaker 10>Hansol was like, oh wow, what did he say? He
<v Speaker 10>said something like they're gonna see him down there, or
<v Speaker 10>they're gonna find him eventually or something and or whatever
<v Speaker 10>his comment was. It was just his offhand like oh yeah,
<v Speaker 10>and then he just picks up.
<v Speaker 5>The gun and just kind of drops it over. Why
<v Speaker 5>was that so funny to be?
<v Speaker 10>I don't know, but he's just like, oh yeah, they're
<v Speaker 10>gonna find those guys who drops the gun.
<v Speaker 3>Okay, you do get a great willem scream right before
<v Speaker 3>that storm yes to his death.
<v Speaker 11>So I'm just wondering how the investigation is going to
<v Speaker 11>go when they go up there and they find the
<v Speaker 11>guy that was left with them to watch them, and
<v Speaker 11>they see the broken railing. Yeah, yeah, and he's the
<v Speaker 11>last place he was at and they're like, where did
<v Speaker 11>he go?
<v Speaker 6>Well, that our Carney story is really gonna hold.
<v Speaker 10>I was waiting for the Imperials to show up and
<v Speaker 10>demand Prema Nacta with you know, with the wookies. The
<v Speaker 10>Emperor has dissolved the Senate and reinstituted Prima Nacta with
<v Speaker 10>all non humanoid species.
<v Speaker 4>The trouble, the trouble with Kashik is it's full of wookies.

<v Speaker 10>So I'll say, this is such an interesting this is
<v Speaker 10>this is like a time capsule if the only thing
<v Speaker 10>that existed in this whole world was just Star Wars
<v Speaker 10>the movie, not even thinking of it as Star Wars
<v Speaker 10>episode for a New Hope, but just Star Wars like like,
<v Speaker 10>and everything else didn't exist. Like if you put some
<v Speaker 10>dude on a desert island and just gave him Star
<v Speaker 10>Wars and said and cocaine and said come up with something.
<v Speaker 5>But it it's just interesting.
<v Speaker 10>Because it's like all the last forty five years of
<v Speaker 10>everything else that has been written and created doesn't exist.

<v Speaker 10>It is an interesting insight into you know, when Star
<v Speaker 10>Wars was kind of raw and not as you know,
<v Speaker 10>hashed out.
<v Speaker 9>All right, so I found it. Anthony Daniels was in Solo.

<v Speaker 9>a corroscanti human male who was a slave working in
<v Speaker 9>the spice minds of Kessel In Solo, his characters his
<v Speaker 9>character's name was tack Nice.
<v Speaker 2>So who was he in Rogue one?
<v Speaker 9>Rogue three po was in like for like two seconds
<v Speaker 9>in Rogue one, just as everybody's taken off at the
<v Speaker 9>end and they make some comment about like we're the
<v Speaker 9>last to hear about anything.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, isn't everything now more adventures?
<v Speaker 3>All right, Well, let's talk about this.
<v Speaker 2>The cartoon cartoon is big because it is the first
<v Speaker 2>appearance of Bob Effect.
<v Speaker 3>What do you guys like the cartoon, John, do you think.
<v Speaker 9>Other than the animation being a little wonky? I thought
<v Speaker 9>it wasn't bad like it was, you know, for a
<v Speaker 9>kid's cartoon, totally fine as an adult watching it, Like, Wow,
<v Speaker 9>you guys are really trusting of this masked bounty hunter,
<v Speaker 9>like real fast, Like I don't know any anybody keeps
<v Speaker 9>calling me friend too often, and he's carrying this big gun,
<v Speaker 9>and you know, wants to be my friend, and it
<v Speaker 9>seems to have some ulterior motives here. I don't know
<v Speaker 9>that I'm gonna question that a little bit, but I
<v Speaker 9>Luke going to be as trusting as he wants to be.
<v Speaker 9>But yeah, no, I thought it was fine. I thought
<v Speaker 9>it was fine being the first. I think this is
<v Speaker 9>actually also the first Star Wars animation ever. I don't
<v Speaker 9>think there was ever any other animated.
<v Speaker 4>I'm trying to remember. Yeah, yeah, So, I mean after this, in.
<v Speaker 9>The nectandition, you would have had like droids and ewoks
<v Speaker 9>and you know, some of those other cartoons that would
<v Speaker 9>come out later. Yeah, other other than the animation being
<v Speaker 9>a little weird, I'm fine with it. And and it's
<v Speaker 9>the first time we get you know, now that we've
<v Speaker 9>had the Mandalorian, it's the first time we get the
<v Speaker 9>amb and phase rifle and all that other stuff. And
<v Speaker 9>I mean, even which is funny, you see. I know
<v Speaker 9>some people have kind of argued, like the movies that
<v Speaker 9>Boba Feed is in, you know, before the special editions,
<v Speaker 9>and it was really just Empire Strikes Back and Return
<v Speaker 9>of the Jedi. Does he really do that much that
<v Speaker 9>proves that he's such a you know, cool guy that
<v Speaker 9>everybody says he is in the movies. No, not really,
<v Speaker 9>not necessarily. I mean he kind of gets taken out
<v Speaker 9>like a chump in Return of the Jedi. And other
<v Speaker 9>than being able to you know, follow somebody other than
<v Speaker 9>tailing somebody in his car, he really doesn't do a
<v Speaker 9>whole lot in Empire Strikes Back to just show just
<v Speaker 9>how cool he is. In this one, I mean, he's
<v Speaker 9>he's riding a dinosaur.
<v Speaker 2>I started watching it, and as Luke lands on whatever
<v Speaker 2>planet it is he's going to, suddenly there's a dragon
<v Speaker 2>that comes out of the ground, it starts attagging him
<v Speaker 2>and then whatever it has to escape dives back into
<v Speaker 2>the ground, And I just thought, did they totally get
<v Speaker 2>this for the first episode of season two of Mandalorian?
<v Speaker 9>Well, because I think I think John Favreau and Dave Filoni,
<v Speaker 9>you know who are are running and directing Mandalorian. I
<v Speaker 9>think they've said several times that there are there's quite
<v Speaker 9>a bit of stuff that was inspired by this cartoon.
<v Speaker 9>It was called The Faithful Wookie, I think is the
<v Speaker 9>title of this cartoon, and I think they've said, yeah,
<v Speaker 9>there's several things like especially the gun, but some of
<v Speaker 9>the other stuff is directly from the holiday special that
<v Speaker 9>they've tried to put into The Mandalorian.
<v Speaker 3>The Skeleton and the creak Dragon is in a New Hope.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah.
<v Speaker 9>Yeah, and even even Life Day Life Day gets referenced
<v Speaker 9>in the first episode of The Mandalorian.
<v Speaker 3>Oh man, I need to do unless.
<v Speaker 9>There was that first guy, that first guy that the
<v Speaker 9>Mandalorian is trying to catch when he first goes into
<v Speaker 9>that one bar, and it's the Blues guy. I forget
<v Speaker 9>what his name is, and he captures him and he
<v Speaker 9>says something about you know, I just I got to
<v Speaker 9>try to be home in time.
<v Speaker 4>For Life Day or something.
<v Speaker 9>And I think that was the first other that was
<v Speaker 9>the first ever other than the holiday special that ever
<v Speaker 9>gets mentioned. So that's why you know, at the time
<v Speaker 9>Life Day they kind of imply it's just a Wookie
<v Speaker 9>thing in this one, but in the Mandalorian, now you've
<v Speaker 9>kind of gotten the idea that it's probably more than
<v Speaker 9>just Wookie. So that's I really would have in hindsight
<v Speaker 9>obviously twenty twenty, but I would have really liked to
<v Speaker 9>have just explored Life Day a little bit more. But
<v Speaker 9>that's getting off from the Boba Fet cartoon. No, I
<v Speaker 9>really I dig the Boba Fet cartoon.
<v Speaker 10>I like it, and I don't know if you guys
<v Speaker 10>are going to jump into it. I'm curious who thought
<v Speaker 10>up of who thought of Bob Effet, Like I'd love
<v Speaker 10>to know, like a like Joe.
<v Speaker 9>Johnston, guy that directed The Rocketeer did Captain America. He
<v Speaker 9>designed Boba Fett and based him off of those like
<v Speaker 9>King of the Rocketmen and some of those old movies.
<v Speaker 9>You know, he loved those old movies and that was
<v Speaker 9>he was the one responsible. He did a lot of
<v Speaker 9>the like I don't remember if did he do part
<v Speaker 9>of the design for the Millennium Falcon, which I know
<v Speaker 9>would get you excited, Pat, but he I know he
<v Speaker 9>designed Boba Fette and then and that's why.
<v Speaker 4>That's why.
<v Speaker 9>Then ultimately, like when he had the opportunity to direct
<v Speaker 9>The Rocketeer later on, he's like, sign me up this,
<v Speaker 9>this is my bag, baby, And.
<v Speaker 11>Some of the texts leading up to this this podcast,
<v Speaker 11>somebody had referenced that sexual harassment things.
<v Speaker 9>Yeah, I was thinking, like, we refer to that, we
<v Speaker 9>refer to that as R two me too, Speaking of
<v Speaker 9>which I did look up a picture. They had some
<v Speaker 9>of the prototypes for the action figures for the Holiday special,
<v Speaker 9>and the only prototypes they made were Chewbacca's family, and
<v Speaker 9>basically all it is is it's the I don't know
<v Speaker 9>if you guys ever had the like the classic just
<v Speaker 9>the first round like Phase one action figures that came
<v Speaker 9>out after after Star Wars. It's the class Chewbacca action figure.
<v Speaker 9>And basically the difference is they've just kind of colored
<v Speaker 9>each one a little differently, so it's it's Chewbacca and
<v Speaker 9>then it's like they've shrunk down Chewbacca for Lumpy and
<v Speaker 9>that the coloring is a little bit lighter. And then
<v Speaker 9>they've got another Chewbacca and they've taken off the bandolier
<v Speaker 9>and they've just colored his head white and the rest
<v Speaker 9>of him is brown. And then Mala is basically Chewbacca
<v Speaker 9>colored a very light tan with a little bit of
<v Speaker 9>how shall I say, test articulation, and so it's it
<v Speaker 9>makes looking at them, and I haven't zoomed in on
<v Speaker 9>the picture, and I really don't want to.
<v Speaker 4>It's a little awkward. It's a litt awkward.
<v Speaker 9>The other thing they said, I was reading this article here,
<v Speaker 9>and they said that one of the things that they
<v Speaker 9>never made a prototype of, but they had sketched out
<v Speaker 9>was a toy of Boba the Sea Serpent that Boba
<v Speaker 9>fet is writing on there. So they had plans to make.
<v Speaker 9>Of course, they made Boba fet prototypes and had the
<v Speaker 9>original ones were colored the way he's colored in this
<v Speaker 9>holiday special, and then they did Chewbacca's family, and then
<v Speaker 9>they were planning to do a sea serpent toy. And
<v Speaker 9>then they got the reviews of the show and Kenner's
<v Speaker 9>just like, nope, pull the plug.
<v Speaker 7>Start, let's talk about the final scene.
<v Speaker 3>The final We waited an hour and twenty minutes for
<v Speaker 3>Chewbacca to show up at home. The Imperials have just
<v Speaker 3>trashed Lumpy's room. They're looking for rebel stuff. They can't
<v Speaker 3>find anything. Art Carney is trying his best to help out.
<v Speaker 3>Han and Chewy show up. As soon as Chewy shows up,
<v Speaker 3>he's taken under gunpoint to protect Lumpy, and Han wax
<v Speaker 3>the gun out of the Stormtrooper's hand and then the
<v Speaker 3>stormtrooper trips over some firewood falls to his death. And
<v Speaker 3>then Han proceeds to tell Chewbacca's family how much they
<v Speaker 3>mean to him. It's this very touching moment. Then they're
<v Speaker 3>off to hear Princess Leah scene. What do you guys
<v Speaker 3>think about that final scene?
<v Speaker 10>I I just, I mean, how hard is it to
<v Speaker 10>have a somewhat decent fight like, I mean, they weren't
<v Speaker 10>even asking for a long fight scene. I mean that
<v Speaker 10>could have redeemed some of it if if there would
<v Speaker 10>have been a little bit of a of a fights
<v Speaker 10>you know, I mean there, uh, I know, I know
<v Speaker 10>I'm kind of missing the point, but I mean, you know,
<v Speaker 10>have something where Chewbacca picks up the guy and chucks
<v Speaker 10>him over or I mean, heck, you know what just
<v Speaker 10>drop in you know, drop in the scene from the
<v Speaker 10>Death Star when they get into the shootout where you know,
<v Speaker 10>they bring Chewy in and they're they're trying to break into.
<v Speaker 5>The look out. He's loose like that. Just drop that in.
<v Speaker 5>I would have enjoyed watching that again, Like.
<v Speaker 11>And they're just going to come in and save the
<v Speaker 11>day and wrap it up for the kids, the little kids.
<v Speaker 11>You know, it was like because they can't make it
<v Speaker 11>too violent, is what it seemed like. But then at
<v Speaker 11>the same time you had all those other weird things
<v Speaker 11>going on, So where were the thoughts of the kids,
<v Speaker 11>you know, like, can't show them any violence here, but
<v Speaker 11>we can definitely throw in the sexual harassment.
<v Speaker 2>In the uh Eleen Horn and all that. Yeah, softcore porn.
<v Speaker 4>Yeahah.
<v Speaker 9>I do want to say what redeems that that fight
<v Speaker 9>scene for me is the fact that the Stormtrooper did
<v Speaker 9>perform the Wilhelm scream as he did fall over the railing.
<v Speaker 3>So you know, that's something we didn't really talk about.
<v Speaker 3>What do you guys think about the sort of at
<v Speaker 3>the beginning, you have the hologram chess board that they
<v Speaker 3>had in Star Wars where they played Kuss, and then
<v Speaker 3>you have all these weird circus performers that doesn't even
<v Speaker 3>thought that would be a good idea.
<v Speaker 2>We have to take what should have been a thirty
<v Speaker 2>minute episode and expanded into two hours.
<v Speaker 6>What can we do? Yeah, nothing seemed connected, that was
<v Speaker 6>what it was so weird. You could literally make you know,
<v Speaker 6>just nothing was connected.
<v Speaker 2>And talking about not connected during the cartoon. Suddenly in
<v Speaker 2>the middle of the cartoon we get a voice which
<v Speaker 2>almost sounds like Captain James T. Kirk saying starlog and
<v Speaker 2>then explain it going on in Boba FET's head. I'm
<v Speaker 2>just like, where did that guy come from? Why is
<v Speaker 2>why are we saying starlog?

<v Speaker 10>managed to capture our attention, and I mean the fan
<v Speaker 10>favorite kind of like not even cult status, but like
<v Speaker 10>that was a fan favorite aspect of Star Wars to
<v Speaker 10>even before the prequels came out. People were like, man,
<v Speaker 10>that was such a cool character, and really that's how
<v Speaker 10>you kill him off?
<v Speaker 5>Han bumps him and he flies Like that's not right.
<v Speaker 10>And I just think it's cool that you have a
<v Speaker 10>character like that that was able to capture fandom's feelings
<v Speaker 10>about it something that came out in the cartoon. And
<v Speaker 10>I mean, like, if I had to pick one thing
<v Speaker 10>that I enjoyed in this Bobaffect cartoon, right, Like, I
<v Speaker 10>just think that's cool that, you know, whatever, that character
<v Speaker 10>was able to attain like mystical status with not a
<v Speaker 10>lot of material. And that's where like now with Mandalorian
<v Speaker 10>and everything, we're going cuckoo for Cocoa puffs because like, wow,
<v Speaker 10>we get to see more of this character.
<v Speaker 3>You're right, we've waited since nineteen eighty or nineteen seventy
<v Speaker 3>eight for Boba Fet to do something, and last week
<v Speaker 3>he finally did. That's forty years. Yeah, that's forty years
<v Speaker 3>of capturing our attention.
<v Speaker 10>So kind of my earlier point, see where the Boba
<v Speaker 10>Fet character the cartoon came from. I mean, I just like,
<v Speaker 10>I didn't know hardly anything about this until I heard, Hey,
<v Speaker 10>you know, the Surely podcast wants to do and have
<v Speaker 10>you guys.
<v Speaker 5>For the Star Wars special.
<v Speaker 10>I'm like, oh, yeah, you guys have talked about the
<v Speaker 10>Star Like I literally knew nothing about this till about
<v Speaker 10>a week ago, right, So somehow I was, you know, able,
<v Speaker 10>and then they said, well, it's the origination.
<v Speaker 5>Of origin of of of of Boba fet and it's like, well, dang,
<v Speaker 5>that's pretty cool. So I would say the Boba Fat cartoon,
<v Speaker 5>you know.
<v Speaker 10>And I know we've kind of had mixed reviews on
<v Speaker 10>Carrie Fisher singing and like I said, I mean singing
<v Speaker 10>as Princess Leah, Okay, that was a little bit like okay,
<v Speaker 10>But I mean, you know, sometimes we've got movies that
<v Speaker 10>come out now where actors or actresses are trying to
<v Speaker 10>sing in the movies. And then the second thing is
<v Speaker 10>then you've got some movies where it's like, no, they
<v Speaker 10>can really sing. They they got to, you know, they can,
<v Speaker 10>they can bring it.
<v Speaker 5>It's just they've never had a role yet. And so
<v Speaker 5>I don't know.
<v Speaker 10>I always like to I always like to see that
<v Speaker 10>extra dimension of certain actors and actresses. And I always
<v Speaker 10>frame it with no one's hiring me to do any
<v Speaker 10>kind of professional singing, No one's hiring me to do any.
<v Speaker 5>Kind of professional trumpet playing.
<v Speaker 10>So I say that humbly because it's like I don't
<v Speaker 10>have any Christmas specials that I'm singing on. But that
<v Speaker 10>was kind of like a Oh, that's just cool to
<v Speaker 10>see her, you know, in a different light.

<v Speaker 2>Jaws three. I think I would pick Holiday Special above

<v Speaker 9>it a religious thing? Is it a you know, part
<v Speaker 9>of this Jedi mysticism? I mean, how how tied into
<v Speaker 9>all of it is the idea of Life Day. So
<v Speaker 9>I mean I'd be really curious to see that it.

<v Speaker 9>puts on an x Wing pilot's helmet, and then she
<v Speaker 9>stands up from the car and she walks down the
<v Speaker 9>runway and the camera turns and she's walking towards an
<v Speaker 9>x Wing and then and then they make the announcement
<v Speaker 9>that she's doing a it will actually be the next
<v Speaker 9>theatrical Star Wars movie, and it's right now it's just
