Speaker 1: What's up, Bachelor Happy Hour listeners? You know what today is? It's Wednesday, and you know what that means. Wednesday. Wednesdays have a new meaning this go around with the Bacherette season, but like very fitting, very fitting for twenty twenty. So it's Wednesday, and that means that another Bachelorette episode aired last night, and that means we owe you a recap and something that you can't get on other podcasts, but you can't get here on Bachelor Happy Hour. Another guest, not a guest you've heard from before, A new guest, a new contestant from this Bacherette season. So you guys, don't worry, because we have both of those coming up for you very shortly. We're going to kick off this podcast, of course, with a recap of last night's episode of the Bachelorette, and then we'll have a very very special guest joining us, somebody that I think you guys are really really gonna want to hear from for multiple reasons, right, But this is a first for us, Becca because a first because we've never talked to this person before, but also first because it's the first ever Harvard graduate coming on the podcast. Yes, Rachel I'm so happy you dropped the age bomb because if there's one thing we know about Bennett, and I think it's at this point, probably the only thing we know about Bennett is it's that he went to Harvard, And so, I know, did I ever tell you that I used to date a guy from Harvard? What happened back? You know, I answer your question, no, you did it. So like I have a soft spot in my heart for Bennett because yeah, he uh years ago before I went on on Aris season. I call him what is it called, like the one that got away? Like the white Rhino. It's like the one that got away. Probably you should not even be adviting that on here, but um, yeah, well, if you're listening Harvard, you know, No, he's in a very happy relationship and I truly want the best for him. So it all worked out. But yeah, back to Bennett, my other Harvard man in the life. I'm I'm excited to have him on, not only to get his thoughts on last night's episode, but I really want to quiz him a little bit. You know, he went to Harvard. I'm hoping he's good at tests, but we will see. So we'll wait for the quiz at the end. M we know he knows a lot about finance, obviously face masks. Also, where what did he call his home Chateau Day Bennett? Is that where he's living at Laquita? I can't It's almost like it's ruined when you say Chateau Day Laquinta. It's just like Rose the whole thing. You know what I want to ask Spin it how the hell did you get on this show? Like why are you here? The number one question at the top of the episode before we always kick it off of like how are you doing? How are you hanging in? Like during quarantine? But I just think we need to know, like how the hell he got on about Shirrette. I'm very intrigued to know the why, the why behind the Bennett. Yes, um, so you know he knows a lot about out some things, but we do have to give him a lesson to see how well he knows her bad short Claire Crawley. So we have that coming up. But before all that, we have to dig into last night's episode. And you know, at this point original I just have to start this recap with is it Claire season or is it Dale's season? Well, I mean it's both of their seasons, you know. I mean, it's it's the Clarien Dale Show. And I can't even imagine what it was like to be there and live it because we're watching it, and I know we're watching it in a way that the men who were living there didn't get to see it, but it's so painfully obvious. So yeah, we're watching the Clarendal Show. Yeah, you know, I mean, aside from Dale. We start the episode with Clarien Joseph. Obviously, last week before this episode aired, we saw Yoseph bashing on the Dodgeball date and the stripping of it, and you know, in our minds were like, why does he care he's not on this date? Like the men could have said no if they didn't want to do this. Whatever, What were your thoughts on the I just want to ask your thoughts on the way you thought Joseph handled the interaction. If you guys could see my face, let me let me just think for a second, because the only notes I took we're during the top of this episode with Joseph. Okay, Joseph is his entire speech. I just people, A lot of my friends like to say that I'm the type of person where when something's going down, whether it be myself or my friends, I'm that person who's like, I'm sorry, excuse me, do we have a problem? Like when most people run away from confrontation. I love it, Okay. I love to like approach the situation head on. I would love to have been clear in this moment. Oh love to have But but you know what, but Claire didn't need me because Claire definitely handled it on her own. I love that about her. But anyways, Okay, Joseph when he said I know that, you know we're supposed to be here for you, and you said that, but you're here for us, I know everything I need to know about Joseph in that statement. What a self centered, selfish asshole he is. I mean, he's controlling, he's dominating, he's manipulative. It is. He is truly a scary man. Like there were so many red flags. It's problematic. Like was it good TV? Yes? Have we been building up to this for two episodes to finally get to this moment? Yes, But in my mind I kept thinking how problematic his behavior is, and it's actually quite scary more than it is entertaining. Claire was trying to relate to him, and he was talking about how he feels, and he was saying his daughter and how he sacrifices time, and she was like, yeah, I know. She said my mother is dying, and he shushed her. Ladies, this is like, this is a prototype of what you need to run away from there. So you could literally take yusef Joseph. I'm not I don't even give a fuck about pronouncing his say. You could literally take him as a prototype of what not to look for in a man. He shushed her. He didn't say, I'm so sorry about that, you know, like, and I definitely want to keep talking to you about that, but you know, I just want to I want to continue because I don't want to lose my thought. But I obviously want to talk to you about your mother because I can only imagine how hard that is. Didn't say that shushed her so he could speak because he said, I'm talking. Blair held her composure, totally shocked by that. Didn't respond to her mom not go ahead, Oh god, oh no, I was gonna say everything you're saying that. Like the one note I took was when she made that comment about her mom and he goes, I'm speaking right now, and I was like, you do realize you're on the show called the bauch Shorrette, and she is the bouch Schhorrette and you truly are here for her. And when a woman is talking about anyone who's or ill or sick or trying to relate to you, do not shush them. Oh, it was so bad. This man doesn't know how to relate to people. He doesn't know how to empathize. I don't want to touch on the relationship he has with his daughter, but my gosh, like he has such problematic behavior. I swear, if you live in Joseph's town, State Towny, you need to be putting up pictures of him everywhere that says beware of the dog, dangerous dog in town. This man is dangerous. And what really got me is not just how he was talking to her to her face when she got up and she told him to get out, and you could tell she was just she was grimacing. She was she was trying to be classy about the situation, but she was seething. He still continued to talk to her while she was walking away, he was following her. This was truly alarming to me, so alarming. I mean, it's I've never seen anything like it on the show. We thought Luke Pe was bad. Oh god well, And the part that I can't fathom is like he was getting that angry on something he was not even part of, Like he wasn't even on that date. He did not witness it. He did not see the interactions between Clear and the men. So for him to get that mad over something he wasn't even involved in that wasn't affecting him baffles me because then I think, what if he was part of something like that, Like how angry would he actually be if he took part in it? Like, it's just it's very scary, very scary behavior. Thank god she sent his ass packing, like, and I'm glad that the guys all her to go down to where they could have her back. And of course Dale as the night in shining armor for her. What you know, my notes say, where the fuck did Dell come from? I literally wrote that in my notes out of nowhere. I put my head down for something and I look up and then there's Dell And I was like, okay, you know there were I didn't like it. I gotta be honest, obviously they sent and Dell. She was really distraught. She was upset rightfully, so he said some really terrible things to her, and they wanted her to feel good about herself, and they wanted her to feel comforted. And they know they knew how she felt about Dell. I get it, but just being there, like when I'm thinking that, when I'm thinking about this from them other men and their perspective, they were there to comfort her. You know, they saw it. They took up for her. One guy was like, man like I'm about to Like he looked like he was gonna fight Joseph. I really wish they would have let that happen like that's like somebody like Joseph meets their ass beach just like one good time. So you know, you don't need to continue talking about that. Let me just put you in your place one good time. But no, I thought that there were so many men there that also wanted to do that for her, and I think it would have been just as great for her to feel that it's not just one man that wants to be here for you. There's several men that want to have your back and let you know your worth. Yeah, missed opportunity, and it's like it was the beginning of me just feeling really bad for the rest of the men this entire episode, to be honest, and I wonder, and I even was thinking when I was watching Dale walk in, I was like, I wonder if they would have sent another man in, would she have formed a somewhat strong connection with this other man? Like it just but yeah, like I said, the beginning, the beginning of the Dale show took place that in there. So basically what we see come next is Dianna comes in the next day, has a girl chat with Claire. Dianna who what she did? She say, bachelor atte twelve years ago, thirteen years ago. I didn't get the number, but it's it's definitely more than you know, yeah, ten years. But I think it was good. I think she needed some girl time to just clear her head after all of the Joseph drama from the night before. But of course Gosh is about about Dale and makes a comment when you know, you know, and Dianna bach rip because I think when Dianna met her husband she said the same thing. So I mean, the show it isn't even trying to cover up like how how can you there's no I just at this point, I'm just watching it all this go down, and I'm like, oh man, the woman has his pants. Okay, it's like another lost opportunity. How declare get his pants? Did she get them? Did he take them off in front of her? To her he was he wasn't on the dodgeball day? Oh how declare get the pants? But they had a bow on them too, That's what gobby is. They still had a bow. And these Peo women are smelling his pants because he's probably sprayed them with cologne. I think I've told you this before, that there Brian gave me when we went to the Ellen Show. He gave me his Ellen underwear and sprayed the one says cologne and wrapped him up as a present day. It was a deleted scene. They didn't show it, thank god, because people really would have been talking about Brian. I still have those Ellen underwear. I loved it, and I would keep them with me when we travel because I could smell Brian. So I get it, Claire, but I'm more mad than we don't have the story behind the pants. Did he spend the night with you? Did he strip down in front of you, Claire, we need to know the answers. What I thought was funny in this moment though, too, was that she's talking about Dell and the men are waiting for her to go on a group date, and they're all talking about like, you know, she knows what she wants, like she knows what she wants, and I'm like, you, guys, Claire wants you to go home, Like that's really what she wants. And it's sad to see the juxtaposition of them hopeful about what could possibly be and that she got rid of a Joseph so it's like now she can concentrate on the men that are here, and it's like, no, she's just concentrating on the man, the one person. Yeah, it was so funny to me, and it's so sad because going into this group date, I mean, obviously the date DA didn't happen because she's with Diana talking about daily entire time. Let me just for anyone listening, like the show, especially when you're a contestant, is so much stop and go. There is so much waiting around to begin with, like you were constantly just waiting. There's already enough waiting and the fact that they had to wait. I think they mentioned like three or four extra hours thinking that they were going to go on this state and just sitting there, I would have, honestly, I would have done one or two things. I would have lost my mind and probably like gone berserko, or I would have just fallen asleep and we're like, well, wake me up whenever in seventeen hours when the state is actually happening, it's so sad, Yeah, to make them wait, And you know, I feel like I'm at this point where like I'm trying to see both sides, Like kudos to Claire for knowing what she wants and you know, like trying to figure out what's best for her heart, but also too, there's still are twenty plus men who are waiting to get to know you and waiting for conversations and to have this time, and I'm just feeling so bad for them. Yeah, it must have sucked to been on this, like to been a dude unless you were Dale. Right, for you, Dale, it was fantastic, you know, like you and Claire it was often it was great. But if you were the other man, it must have sucked. You knew you weren't one and you didn't get to travel. You know, you're getting COVID tested every few days. You don't even get to live in the mansion. You don't get to run around and do things like you normally would. It's almost like you were trapped. Like the Bachelor bubble is something we used to talk about as like a metaphor, but now it's an actual thing. That's all I kept thinking, geez, it really must suck to be on this season. I hope all these men, you know, whoever Claire doesn't choose, I hope you go to Paradise so you can get some type of experience as to what this show is about, or just reapply, or just like some sort of conversation with a person of the opposite sex, because I feel like these men at this point aren't really getting it with Claire. And it's so sad because they wait, wait, wait all day, and then what happened at night? They go to this cocktail party and who does she spend the entire night with Dale? Like yes, it's a fact. Oh my god. I was cringing when Easy walks to her room and Dale was already in there and he just just tried to have a conversation and she had like, oh at that point, I'm like, it's done, it's over now, this is what I want to talk about. Honestly, you guys, this was the most entertaining part to me more than Joseph. And you know why because we had seen it tease for weeks and weeks and weeks. Okay, he's an asshole, Great, we got him out of here. This part with Dell, not the time he spent with her, the bs that he spit out to the guys, and then that Claire didn't get to see. This to me was the most entertaining thing because it's something we haven't we don't really know about, right, Like we haven't. This isn't a rumor that's been out there. This isn't hasn't really been teased that much. So Claire, I'm Claire. That's what I was about to call you. Becca. What were your thoughts with the way Dale handled this entire group day start to finish? So I'm not gonna lie. He really started to rub me the wrong way. And I want to say this, I think the way that he handled himself with the men when they confronted him after the time, when he's like oh, I went to the bathroom and then I didn't know where she was, and like the BSD spending it felt very very juvenile and immature to me, Like and that's why I think it was easy or Riley that called him out and they're like, dude, if you just want to spend time with her, just say that we get why you're here, Like, don't beat around the bush and dance around the fact that like you into the bathroom when you didn't know, but like you just spent forty five minutes with her. I just it felt very immature to me, which I wasn't expecting from him, to be honest, because I feel like he's been so hyped up this entire time. If you were Claire and you've seen this episode, because at this point you have right, Claire didn't get to see this in person. If you're Claire, if you let's do hypothetically speaking, you chose del and you saw this same, would you be concerned after this? Yes? I would I And if I was in that position, I would hope that she's had these conversations with him. But yeah, I think I think the part that would rub me the wrong way because I'm all about friendships and maintaining a certain level of respect and honesty, and to see how he was with the other men would completely rub me the wrong way, and I would have questions because it's like, I want somebody who respects the people he's around, who gets along with them, who can maintain friendships, and it just it felt so off, like it felt like he was trying to please Claire and the guys, and it just like I understand he was put in an awkward position, and it wasn't he was not he put himself in that position. What awkward position was he put in? Unless they unless he really did think he was going to the bathroom and then walked in. But let's be honest. He walked in and was like, can I talk to her? So obviously you were seeking her out. Here's the thing, Dell, I you know, I gotta call bullshit when I see it, And that's exactly what that was. And it wouldn't have been bad if you hadn't given that speech at the beginning, which also was so unnecessary. Just pull her first, like you said back, and he was trying to be down with the guys, but then also try to spend his time with Claire. You all know what this game is at this point, You're you're all trying to establish a relationship and end up with Claire at the end of this just pull her to the side. All that fluff in that talk which I was with Riley on this one, the speech the group pub that cheesy, I get that cheesy stuff out of here, Like that's so freaking corny to me. I'm sorry, I gotta call it like, I gotta call it dell out on this one. I was so Riley like that was so corny. And then you spend your time. Who cares if you spent if you spend forty five minutes with her, but with them deal, I'm not mad to Delle spent forty five minutes. It's the the speech that he gave it to the beginning and then coming back and then trying to say he was dazed and confused as he was like discombobulated. Oh I was. I didn't know what was going on, And I just walked in the room and then asked, interrupted somebody's day. Who was that guy? By the way, don't know who he was my first time ever setting him on the season, But the fact that he allowed dell to interrupt him and just was like yeah, man, and then came back and whined about it in the group. Now that that dude has to go home, like, that's I don't even know. I don't people know his name, so I didn't even help you out of that dude. That dude, that's what we'll call him. Okay. Now that I'm finally getting settled in La, I'm loving where I live. Unfortunately, not all of the gyms are open, but I have been able to squeeze in some outdoor fitness classes. Now. At this point, this is gonna sound terrible, but I don't like I would hope by now I would know everyone's names, and I don't. I know Dale, I know easy because we had him on the podcast. I know Bennett and Blake. Like there's only a handful that I know at this point, because I feel like it's, like I said, it's turned into the Dale Show, Like that's all we hear about. All right, one last thing I want to say about Dale and this whole cocktail party that went down. We see him go back and basically have this conversation with all the dudes and he says that he's the best man suited. Now, I was watching this back just kind of confused, like, obviously it's no surprise. I think he knew he's a front runner. I think to any of the guys watching his interactions with Claire, they know he's a front runner. But that the wording he chose, I just again, it rubbed me the wrong way, Like I didn't know why he chose to say that, unless it's like something that he heard in an interview. What were your thoughts on that conversation that comment. I guess it's confusing because Dell has given a lot of toasts and he's addressed the group, so we've seen him speak and he is very careful with his words and he doesn't really stammer over what it is that he's saying. So it's odd that when he gets called out you see him kind of fumbling with his words, which makes me feel like he's bssing. To be honest with you, the fact that he and when he said he flat out before Jason, who side note loving this episode. Before Jason called him out and was like wait, wait, now, go ahead, finish your sentence, he was flat out saying I'm the best man. He wasn't. It was when Jason called him out and then he couldn't find gather his words together, so he meant what he said. He felt he was the best man suited. I mean it, Dell's fell in himself. And to be honest, why is why wouldn't he was all the time and attention that Claire's giving him, he knows he has us in the bag. Yeah, but I will say this, he is now starting to walk the fine line between you know, going all in in his relationship with Claire and knowing that he is a front runner and then really aggravating the guys on the other side. So it's just like this weird awkward tension, Like, yeah, I think he's trying to play the game that he is concerned about the men, but by his actions he's not. I mean, he's there for Claire, he's there to you know, navigate that relationship, but then trying to play the other side, and the reason it's not working is because you really don't care about the other side. I guess we'll just have to see how it plays out. But onto the next date, we see the one on one SPA date with Zach Jay. Overall, the entire day clearly was awkward. He was very much into Claire feeling her. She obviously was not because she's sitting in her interview chair talking about Dale, which I think just basically plays into the whole kiss communication where, you know, cringeworthy watching it back, But truly I think like it looks like she went in id he went in ten, and I think she just realized, like this isn't Dale, Like I can't get there with somebody else's it's not Dale. She can't like pretend that she wants to kiss anyone else. Yeah, I yeah, it was. You're definitely right. It was an awkward day. And all I'll say about this day. The one thing that I loved is that I saw something I've personally never seen before. It's probably happened with as many seasons as there have been, but I've never seen Chris Harrison come in and send somebody home on a one on one day. And let me tell you, I'm here to say I loved it, every bit of it. They are working Chris Harrison this season in a way that he has not worked in a while. Normally people are complaining and they're like, how many times will Chris Harrison pop up this episode? Well, Claire's like, you know what, He's going to be a part of every single episode, every day. And I'm loving it because he's right there. He's on the premise. He's probably like a villa way. They just need him to walk over. I was like, let me get off this float and come on over here. And I will say this, so like going into the night portion, you see Zach sitting at the dinner table. Obviously there's an empty chair next to him, which you usually never see. You usually see the couple walking up together sitting down like toasted or whatever. So to see Zach sitting there for a few seconds, I literally said, what if Chris Harrison walked in right now and sat down and then Chris Harrison walks and I was losing my mind. I would love it. It was so funny, like, oh my gosh, and yeah, like you said, I've never seen that before. And I found it very interesting because usually I think like Claire doesn't hold back. I don't think she's afraid of confrontation. She's not afraid to say what she has sued to these men, and so it was very interesting to see her being like on number one deal fit, like just sending Chris like he's gotten on it. I'm gonna go to so refreshing every every every time there has been conflicts on this season so far, the way she handles it, there's no flip flopping, there's no confusion, everything is matter of fact. This is how it should be. I love it every single time. I don't even get worried as to how Claire is going to handle it. I'm always like she's gotten this. I know she's got this. Situation. So yeah, that was that was an interesting twist. Every everything with this season has been has had an interesting twist. With that one, I wasn't ready for you called it. Kudos to you, Becca for calling it. So let me get to the group date, which I'll be honest, I'm jealous that I did not have a roast date on my season. So this one we saw. It was with Margart Trow, which was pretty cool that they were able to bring somebody into the bubble to experience, you know, the show, because usually there is a celebrity on the show, and so I'm glad that Claire was able to have that experience with Margaret. I thought the rose fl a fantastic idea. I'm telling y'all lived for this moment and the fact that they brought in the other men from the house. Yes, he genius, Janius genius. Loved every bit of it. Love that at the end of it all that Claire gave herself the rose. I mean, I just I thought it was funny. It sucked for the men, and I think that's a theme here. That's the through line through this recap. It sucked for the men unless your name is Dell. But I feel like there's so much to get into with the Ross that. Since we've already said we're having been It from Harvard on and he clearly was a scene stiller and dropped the mic at the end of it, we're gonna let him pick the mic back up and tell us all about the rose and everything that went into that. You know, I've got a kind of a bad ZiT to be honest, I'm like a little self conscious about it. And my skinner routine has not It's been slepting a bit, you know, since being out in the desert. But I have plenty packed here thanks to me. I'm always, you know, pretty prepared, and I'm heading from Charlotte here where I'm seeing kind of my godson and best friends, and going down to Atlanta from here to see my family and for the first time, you know, since COVID and everything. So, um, you know, I'll have some rest of relaxation and can get back into the skincare routine. For sure. We're expected auto updates. Okay, we'll do, we'll do. You're from the South minute, I am? I am. I'm from Atlanta. I was actually born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and then have lived in Atlanta more or less my entire life before you know, becoming a Yankee and moving up to the North and then in you know, Boston and New York. Now, um, since college, so it's kind of an even split. Eighteen years up in the North, eighteen years in the South. Okay, okay, you can't just say college. We already know you have to go a stage bomb, you know. I mean, that's all of those things that I actually didn't say it that often on the show. Was kind of you know, pulled out a bit um as you might imagine. But um, yes, I went. I went to Harvard and it was a fantastic experience. I wouldn't, you know, trade it for the life of me, but it is just a school. It was a great experience and it served me well. I think the friendships, the relationships and kind of that alumni network is really you know, on precedent, I think a lot of people from other, you know, very elite schools would probably poo poo on Harvard a little bit, um, you know, in some respect. But it served me well and I really enjoyed my time. What's up, Rachel, I said, only in sports, and only they only WoT it's when it comes. That's fair, That's totally fair. How does somebody like you end up on the show? And why? Great question? You know, um throughout um, you know, well, I don't know, call up my more adult h you know, dating years, I've had nudges from family and friends and uh, even X is on the way out the door that you should just go on the bachirette or you should check that out. You never know, Um, you know, give it, give it a shot. Why not? I think it would be great for it. And I never really took it seriously until I was kind of quarantine alone in New York City in the you know, epicenter of the pandemic and um, by myself for that entire time, and I kind of got to thinking about it, and as you might imagine, and you know, dating life got a little bit you know, stagnant and this sort of day to day just office you know, work at home and you know, working out at home and ordering your groceries and you know, working on every recipe you could imagine, doing every at home project you could imagine. Got a little old and sort of got me to thinking this might be the time to do something like this, And so I gave it a shot, and you know, rapidly you know, progressed through the little process there, and was you know, super excited to have an opportunity like this. It was was fantastic. So you decided to go from living alone totally secluded to living with thirty plus dudes in a one little very resort. Just thinking about it, Yeah, well you had a chateau. Yeah, you lived a little different. I was really blessed with the chateau. And you know, I hope that the chateau gets a little you know play and airtime and that that makes it out onto the show. But um, I was really fortunate to have such a nice set up there. Not complaining. It was you know, a nice little uh change of speed, I guess from the Manhattan apartment. You know, it's probably much more spacious for you there. A little bit, a little bit. You know, I don't have a backyard and pulled a hot tub in Manhattan, that's for sure. But it's gonna buy real estate back at La Keinton now just because he misses it. Yeah, no kidding, no kidding. Before we get into the episode, over all your time on the show, what was your experience, like, how did you feel about doing it all? Give us a little bit about that. Sure, sincerely, I had the absolute best time of my life doing And it's one of those things you know, like Harvard Schmarvard Bachelorettes where it's at. I had such a good time and it was one of those things that I was, you know, quite skeptical, you know, going in in terms of, you know, are you really going to have a shot at a genuinely making a connection and relationship and getting to the point of finding someone that you can fall in love with and um you know, find uh someone to marry, right and and as you would imagine everyone sort of questions that was obviously you guys know it. Well, it's under this you know, hyper focused environment where you're put into these situations that really drives those connections and the relationships. Um in such an unbelievable way that it works. And so, you know, I had a phenomenal time. I wouldn't trade it, you know, for the world of me. And you know, I guess, you know, stay tuned to see how things pan out. But I heard you were one of the coolest guys in the house. Wow, that is quite a compliment. I did, like not not can't say who I heard from, but I heard that because obviously people have a lot of questions about you, because you know, we we saw the chateau, We saw you putting on the face mask. You know, you have the scarf. Was it a Rolls Rolls Royce you came in or was it a band? Yeah, okay, let me let me get it right. So the whole, the whole like persona that you came in with. I think people were really maybe had a preconceived had preconceived notions about who you are. But I heard that you were really just like down with the boys, And I think that what was so great to see was in last night's episode, we really kind of saw you come out of your shells. Like the scarf was off, not the gloves were off, the scarf was off, the loafers were off and you were ready. You were ready to go. And so I guess the question we have is why you chose to go after del so hard and the way that you did, And then why was that moment you chose? Why was that the moment you chose to do it? Sure, I mean it was really the time. It was kind of it was like an avalue. You know, I played basketball, I played football growing up. I'm really you know, from a down to earth, you know, modest background and family always played sports, was super competitive. I've got an older brother, a younger brother, Um, you know, and I think in any competition, whether you're doing in an election, whether it's sports, whether it's just you know business, right, Um, you kind of go after the tuck dog, right, and you can't be afraid of that. That that's that's the man to beat. And I think it was kind of clear at that point with you know, Dale, that there was a lot of favoritism. You could tell that his relationship was moving along with cla Claire quite rapidly. And you know, I certainly am not one to shy away from competition, never scared of anything. I always believe in myself and you know, my ability to succeed, so you know, why not go after Dale a little bit more, you know than the others? And I think, um, it was really an opportunity as well where I had a chance to speak up and say some of the things, whether there were jokes and jabs and whether they were true. Um, to go after and j Dale and speak on behalf of the guys, not speaking for them, of course, but maybe say some of that thinks of because I was in that position at the Rose to do that and say some of the things that they would have liked to have out there. I will see this watching all of you guys at the Roast come at Dale. It never felt like it crossed the line where it was inappropriate and like hitting below the belt. It still felt very like you know, of course you guys had your jobs in there every now and again, but it never felt inappropriate. But one of the guys, and I don't remember who said it, but one of the guys said, you know, like basically Dale never shuts up and he never stops talking. Was that the case? Was that true? Because I feel like there's part like we see such a majority of Dale with Claire, like we see small bits of interaction with you guys, but it's also like not extreme in the sense like well him my comments like yeah, the best man suited or whatever, but it never is very abundant. So I'm sitting there wondering, like, is he very very different in the house with the men versus when he is with Claire. You know, I think to twofold, I will say, you know, I was personally very very impressed with Dale night one, and I unfortunately did not get the chance to speak with Claire, you know, at the cocktail ceremony when the drama sort of hit and I was this close and then it didn't happen. Um, But you know, I was being kind of quiet, taking things in, um, you know, just sort of absorbing, absorbing, excuse me, um, you know, maybe maybe a little bit of Jay Gatsby and there sneaking through the party, not really talking to anyone, just kind of taking the scene and not you know, having a care in the world, but at the same time, just really trying to get comfortable with what was going on around me. And I remember speaking with Dale and I was blown away by the guy that this guy is a stud. He is beautiful. Have you seen those eyes? He was an X and M. He's super articulate. He has a soft spoken voice. But it's not to love about this guy, um, you know. And it also struck me as we're kind of get going and just kind of learning the process and you know, the how things kind of work around there. Dale was super quick into you know, sort of producer, uh, you know, event manager type. Roland was just really outspoken and he kind of go on these monologue. I was like, what was going on? Oh my gosh, And so that was you know, kind of took me back, but I realized that's totally fair game, absolutely normal. But I was impressed by both his eloquence and and just kind of the way that he stepped up immediately and that sort of, you know, kind of nudged me along. It's time to you know, find your voice, and you know, it took me about it took me twenty four to forty eight hours to kind of get there, and then I was pretty comfortable found it. Yeah, you know, I took a nice stretch and I was all right, got the scurf off exactly exactly? Did the men for the roast? Okay, did y'all like have a plan? Did y'all all get together and say, you know what, we're gonna Roastdale like like that or was it? Everyone was on their own and you were kind of surprised with the material that was presented at the roast, very very surprised. And obviously you only get you know, a portion, you know in the show, right, Um, you know, you were given an hour to get to get your jokes together and then you're performing. Um. You know, I spent a lot of time just writing and and I this this kind of came very very natural and easy to me. I was writing a ton of jokes, a ton of roast, and I was really focused on the content. But what you discount is that if you're doing stand up, your delivery matters one hundred percent. It's like a big, big part of it. And so I didn't really spend enough time, you know, practicing that. And that was you know that Unfortunately, I give my myself, you know, kind of a B minus on that. Um, But I think the content was there. I know that everyone was trying to roast everyone, and you know, I thought in my roast that kind of came out. I did roast every single person in the house, every single person in the in the audience. UM. But I did have a few pages on Dale and uh and that was three pages, um. And you know what was really cute is that I don't think that this made the edits is that you know, Claire was coming around and talking to the guys that were on the date and checking in on, you know, the roast. We had some really really good laughs, and I showed her all of my jokes except for three pages, and I just sort of held those, you know, in my sleeve and brought them you know later. So you know, I don't think that there was any surprise that Dale kind of got, you know, roasted. I thought that I was low hanging fruit to be roasted, simply for the scarf and the and the loafers and just the sort of Bennett persona in general. And I did take some good heat there, but you know, Dale, Dale clearly, you know, got it the worst. I wouldn't know going into that night after the roast was over and going into the cocktail party, because what we saw is Claire going around talking to all of you men, but only asking about Dale. And then were you guys all aware of that, Like, were you guys think going back to each other? I mean like she only talked about Dale, She only asked about Dale. She asked why we roasted so hard? Like what was that conversation that evening? Like, yeah, that was really frustrating. Um, you know, we were at that point where this was our chance to kind of pivot off of the roast, not have jokes, and you wanted to further the relationship with Claire and get to get to really you know, know her, get to talk about yourself, get to talk about her, ask her questions and all those you know, things that are really really important and impactful for developing a relationship. And she was constantly bringing it back to Dale, and so that was really really frustrating, and I kind of tried to deflect that, you know, immediately and say I really appreciate, you know, in the jokes. It was good and fun, but we're not the roast anymore. Not here too. I've never been on a date and talked about another guy in my life, and I'm not sure why I'm doing that now, And was trying to just get away from that as quickly as possible. I know, Ben, you know, was in the same, you know, similar position, and you know, we did come back and when we would finish our conversation with Claire and come back to the guys, you know, say, that's super frustrating. I don't know what we can do here. It seems like, you know, no matter what we say, no matter what we try to do, and it's always circling back to Dale. It was like out of our hands. Yeah, I will say this. I think you guys handled it that evening well because I was even getting frustrated watching the conversations go down where she just keeps asking about him, and I thought you guys all tried to deflect very well. But I told Rachel at the top of this episode, I started to feel for you guys. I was like, this is just turning into the Dale Show. So you know, it's frustrated enough leaving your friends and your family and everything that you're used to coming into the show in the first place, and then to just have to wait around and have all of your attention and conversation fixated on one man has got to be so draining. So I mean, kudos to you for trying to deflect and hang in there. So Bennett, I think it was I think it was the intro package when you were first moving into La Quinta, still in quarantine waiting to pass the test. You were reading up on a book about emotional intelligence. So I want to know did you actually own that book? And b were you able to put any of the learnings to good use while while you were on the season. Yeah, of course, you know, I think emotional intelligence, self awareness, you know, all of those components that kind of make it up are really really important and far more important than IQ. I think EQ, you know, in relationships is you know, chiefly important. Um. So I did that book, that book I had read you know, already twice and was just bringing its kind of another refresher Um. I have actually three different books on emotional intelligence and was bringing that just as a kind of a quick It's an easy quick read with a bunch of different you know, anecdotes, And I thought that was good to kind of, you know, pound into my head as just you know, helpful learning tools for the process. Knowing it's high stress environment, you're constantly being challenged, you're constantly being called out, You're in this super hyper competitive you know, and I just thought that was probably one of the best things I could bring, um in terms of study material and something just to kind of be constantly mind full of throughout the journey. And that's that's why I brought it, and it was you know, it was serious. Is something I really really value and I think we can always be trying to become, you know, more self aware and better with our relationship management skills, et cetera. So, yeah, we need more contestants like you on the show, like way to raise the bar wait execute bringing research material to that bachelor bubble so that you can mentally be prepared and self aware. My goodness, very good, love to see it. My one. My other book that I you know there was the kind of the you know, big one was thinking fast and thinking slow, you know Daniel conomy, which is very um, you know, applicable as well, So why not bring things that are going to be relevant to exactly what you were doing. I had one kind of fast read that I brought as well and journaled every day to kind of get that up, get that out and refine and constantly be thinking through everything that you're you know, going through. But yeah, I thought, you know, being mindful, um, it's important to all of us, especially when you're in a situation like the bachelorette at any point where you like, you know what, you need this book more than me. You know, did you think let me let me pass these books out because you seem like you need this to take a deep dive into the thought you know ran through my mind. Whether it was a gift to a producer or whether it was a gift to you know, another contestant. But you're gonna have to I think tune in to see that one time. Oh yes, okay, I am curious because it's always hard when when you go through when you're in the bubble, that's what we call it. Even before you were in an actual bubble, that's what it was referred to. It's one thing to be immersed in the entire experience or journey, should I say, it's another thing to watch the whole thing play out. Now you've got family and friends and co workers that know that you were on this crazy show. You've seen three episodes now at this point, what has it been like and what what has in the feedback that you've received from like your close friends, family, and your co workers. Yeah, no, I think everyone is super excited about it. Friends, family, Um, you know, they're they're all equally, you know, nervous and excited. It's it's it's COVID, it's quarantine. Everyone's been starved for entertainment. They never thought that, certainly I would be doing something like this, So it's it's kind of a shock value and it's weird, you know, personally to see yourself on TV, of course, that is that is super weird. And you know, my, my, your mannerisms, your expressions, all those things that are caught that you cannot control at times are there, right, It's very very real that first episode, I was sweating through my button up that I could totally totally sweat through it, like I looked like I just came out of a basketball game, um and had a little you know zoom with friends afterwards to say hello, and I was drenched. I mean, I was so embarrassed and just you know, excited at the same time. But it's all part of the fun. You know, you gotting brace it and just kind of roll with the punches and know that you know, hopefully you own your your behavior and what you put out there and what you did you know on the journey, and as as long as you know, stay confident and true to who you are. I think you know, you can't go too wrong knock on wood hopefully. I feel like you have a very good head on your shoulder, So I'm not worried like in past season. So I'm always like, I don't know how these guys are gonna fair after this, but i will say this, Claire had probably the best group of guys that we've seen. So what is one thing that you learned about yourself that you didn't know before after going through all of filming? Yeah, you know, Um, honestly, I've always been pretty outgoing, but I had no idea that I had all this built up, pent up social energy from being in quarantine that just needed to come out in a crazy way. And and you know, it's funny, I think even going into it, every sort of work zoom, every work call, and that's you know, a big part of my job. Of course, you know everyone and everyone's on the phone, but I would get off, Oh that was such a good call. I'm re energized. That felt so good, And it's just simple because I was in this like you know, cell right and my Manhattan apartment, so it really really needed that. Um. I would say that I feel, you know, very very comfortable with myself and in terms of having conversations that are I don't know, I don't know, um, force isn't the right word, but advanced conversations with relationships that you know sometimes are uncomfortable and tough to you know, bring out when you're talking about, you know, the menu at a Japanese restaurant and like working through your just sort of first third date bant or whatever it may be. You know, I have no problem with just kind of coming, you know, with it, bringing the wood right immediately and just kind of jumping into things right. I think, um, that is a life lesson that I think really suits you well for relationships going forward. I think, um, just kind of the way that you approach relationships, whether it be you know, family, friends, loved ones, etc. You're much better suited to have in depth personal conversations at will without hesitation. And that's probably you know, one of the best things I took away from as well as you know, the friends and the relationships built both among you know, contestants and producers and everyone. You know, that's something that I will take with me always. Yeah, I love that you said that, because that's one thing from my time on The Bachelor than my own season. The main takeaway, you know, like I found love for a short amount of time, but those friendships are lasting, and I'm glad that you found that not only with the other men, but with producers too, because some of them become your your lifelongers. Absolutely, I mean I'm so. I mean, you know, texting them now, calling them now, speaking with them, like you know, yeah, they're they're they're living your life. They're in your shoes right for that time, and there's no experience like that, you know, and in reality, So that is absolutely something I'm incredibly appreciative of. I mean, I owe those guys so much. Yeah. Yeah, We're still close with several producers as well, so we understand it not just because we do this podcast like in real life. Okay, so we're going to ask you this question and then we're going to switch gears a bit. But usually at the end of every episode, we give or we ask whoever our guest is on the show to give us a rose and a thorn at the end of the episode. But since last night we had a roast, we have to ask you to give a rose and a roast for the episode. So how this is going to work is you need to choose a person and you're going to give a rose too from this episode, and then the other person you're going to give a rose to them, and then you know what to do because you do it so well. I mean, nobody else dropped the mic at the end of their roast. All right, hang on, I'm gonna have to think about this one. You know fairly roasted out wasn't ready for this, and I'm kind of recalibrating, you know, the third episode. Um, you know the the I mean, it's tough not to give you know, Dale both rose and roast, but he's kind of received enough you know, attention at this point, I'd rather go another direction. Um, can I offer a suggestion somebody who wasn't in the room who really deserved to be roast in? And we didn't ask you about this person as Joseph, so by all means, if you'd like to roast him, we'd be more than welcome to it, and I think our listeners would appreciate it as well. Yeah, you know, I think the way that that's totally fair. For the first we can start with, I'd like to I guess we can start with the roast if you like, UM, yes, that's an easy and the roast, you know, I think is probably should kind of go to Joseph. Um. He unfortunately wasn't there right at the roast, and just the way that he kind of went about the whole thing with Claire was really unfortunate. You know, I don't think that I honestly don't think that he intended to come out that way. I think he had some beef that he wanted to uh air, and probably got a little worked up, and just some true colors kind of came out. I don't think that, you know, I don't I don't have any ill will against him. Is actually a very earnest, you know, Southern guy who talks a lot and just kind of, um got really caught up. And I don't think there's ever a place to be, you know, yelling and screaming and ranting and raving you know, at a woman or in any relationship, much less when you know that you're on TV and you know, and and dating a girl that a bunch of other guys are dating. UM. So that came across and just looked really really poorly, especially for the way that um, you know, he always just talking about his daughter. And you know, the last thing I know that YO wants with you know, his daughter's her to be in some relationship like that in the future where she's got some guy harrassing and yelling and calling your names and all those things. Right, So that was tough. You know, that struck a chord with me. I didn't really appreciate that. Um, you know, haven't seen Josepher has spoken with him, you know, since the journey, but UM, I imagine he's got some regrets you know about that one. Um as far as uh, you know arose, Um, you know, I think I'll maybe have to give it to a guy who has kind of been a little bit off camera you know up until this point. Okay, And that's that's why it's you know, one of those you wouldn't see it. You haven't seen it thus far. He hasn't had a lot of airtime. But there's a reason he's around and he continues, you know, on his journey as a reason he's continued. But I think he was sort of a you know, house favorite and someone that everyone loved and um, you know, kept everyone laughing constantly. Is Ed and Ed's Miami Ed. Miami Ed very very overlooked um you know in the early episodes, but he starts coming out and breaking out. But he was always full forced in the house. And I think every single guy would say that Ed was probably the most hilarious person in the house. Um, straight comedy constantly and just someone that you know, maybe maybe he would come after you, you know, if he had some beef, but he wasn't afraid and he'd go straight to it and just constant love and sincere like hilarious, Like he's the funniest guy. I love this insight. I know, I can't. We never would have know. We never, I never would have guessed Ed exactly. Ed. Ed is one of the biggest characters in the show. And I think you know he is in terms of, you know, just his humor and personality. Everyone loves Ed. And I think that'll that'll that'll pop out as we continue here gets out of orb and the bubble wrap, and you know, all he seeing, he'll move, he'll move out of his figurative bubble, you know, sooner than later. I expect a lot from Miami. I just move from there, so I appreciate it. That's what his personality is I get what this is why I love having you guys on this because you give us such a different insight than what we see each week after only two hours. So I can't wait to see what Ed brings to the table. But Ben, we love our games on this podcast, and so we couldn't let you go without playing one. And it's obviously no secret that you have mentioned Harvard. And while we don't know a ton about Harvard, we've learned enough about it from Legally Blonde, and we know all about our girl, Claire. I didn't watch I didn't watch watch poplo. Did you were you a fan of the show or did you watch the show before you want it? I had watched zero prior to going on this show. You guys are gonna love answer. You love this answer. And then once I click submit, I immediately watched Claire in one Pablo and then you two. Oh no, well we help. It helped. I mean, I haven't learned this sequence, you know. And I think it was a combination of you guys being on you know it was it was on your seasons were readily available on Prime or Hulu or something. You know. I don't know, between between watching the past seasons and catching up on emotional intelligence. You really put in the work for this. I tried, you know, I think you got to do your due diligence when you get into something that is this, that's for sure. Okay, nice quote. You must always have faith in people, and most importantly, you must always have faith in yourself. Man, this game is hard. Um legally blon would yep yep. She says it in her spee and a graduation when she's giving her final argument type see yeah, which is always so funny because it was such a quick speech. And I feel like, if you're sitting through graduation, it's going to be longer than that. But law school isn't a law school. Graduation is quick. Ready to get over there? Yeah done? Oh my gosh, I'm talking to two. He went to Harvard. I just went to law school. He um, okay, next up? Where are we? This is just like c Span, except I'm not bored. I remember you did say, Rachel, when we were going through the bios, you said you only had room for one Bennett, and I know who you're talking about because it's one of the producers. But I think we have room for two. Yeah, maybe we'll call this Spinne by his middle name. But you know what I also learned talking about it. Okay, he might have been playing into a persona, but he can definitely afford a rolls Royce, Chateau de ban and it is the scarf, the loafers, all of it. He can actually afford all of it after hearing what he's about what he does for a living. I mean, it's truly good. Shout out to casting because what an impressive man. And let's let's let's continue in this lane. Let's continue bringing you on men like this. I like it. I love the fact too that he like he seems like he was finding his life, like had a great job, a great apartment, but he's like, I was just stuck in quarantine. Like I wanted human interaction. I needed that in my life. And so kudos to him for just throwing it all out there and see like, whatever happens happens, and so I'm so glad that the show was able to find him. Yeah, ladies, the lesson here get you a man who can do both but then can also roast the shit out of someone on The Bachelor. That is a man that can do both. So Bennett, we appreciate it, and he knows about skincare. Okay, okay, Bacca. Before we get off this podcast, we have to address how this episode ended. Okay, I need your thoughts because you know, vast Nation has a love hate relationship with me, so I don't want to say necessarily the wrong thing. So I'm curious to think. I'm curious to know, am I crazy and how I'm thinking. But at the end of this episode, we get a preview of what is to come, and we see a woman rise out of the pool and an orange bikini looking stunning, and that woman is Tasia and she stares directly into the camera, and that's how it is, your thoughts. I was not expecting that, to be honest, I was very verry caught off guard. I mean, every episode we see it end with and coming next week, and I did not expect them to have Titia come out of the pool. To me, that one scene felt kind of awkward and very choppy, like, Oh, let's just slap it in there real quick and call it a day, because we gotta like let our viewers know what's about to come. Like I wish it, like if we're gonna announce a new woman coming on, I want to give her the time and the respect and you know, like the proper intro, and that I think fell very flat. Yeah, maybe this is what I'm hoping. I agree with you wholeheartedly. And what I'm hoping is they just gave that to us as a tease and then when it actually, you know, we see how it all plays out, then we'll see a true introduction, you know, like when we meet her and we see her come on the scene. Hopefully it's not like popping out of a pool because there's snow denied. Like, we both agree, she looked beautiful, it was hot. You know, she stole the scene. It got our attention. But and it was a great tease. So let's just hope, like, you know, when it actually happens, we get just a little bit more, little bit more not yeah, yeah, not just a taste test. But I mean, Dan, when I watched her come out of the pullups, like, ay, how do you look that good walking out of the water, how is your makeup not running? Like your hair's perfectly flip flicked back? Like she didn't look flawless, But she's there's also so much more than just like this sexy woman. So I want to see more. I want to you know, you don't want it to be that she deserves, yes, but she did look like a bond girl. No, I'm just saying they're like like a true Bond girl. And maybe it's because when Hallie Berry was coming out of the water, which maybe that's what they were trying to imitate. When Hallie Berry's coming out of the water, I'm pretty sure she had on an orange bikini. I'm not you know, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think she had on an orange bikini, and I think that's what they were trying to imitate. Now like Kita was in the back instead of the ocean, But well, we'll take it. We'll still take it. Was it orange, I'm let's see, oh uh huh, well orange or pink with a white belt? Yeah? Orange, it's orange. You're right, right. I wish I could like be all sexy, like, yeah, let's Taia. That must be what they were tapping into. And yes, on a hotness level, Tasia was a ten plus plus plus plus, but we shall see. At least at least we're finally acknowledging Tasha Becca Claire's season is truly the gift that keeps on giving.
