Girls Just Want To Have Sums (S17E19)
Mitch and Dando are back this week! Springfield Elementary gets a new principal who divides the boys from the girls, leaving Lisa needing to dress up as a boy in order to learn proper maths. Safe to say, Mitch wasn't kind, well, neither was Dando, but he was at least kinder. Thanks to patron Seth Wiens for his ongoing support and selecting this episode!

What's going on, guys, Dando here. Hope you're all having a fantastic week. Of course, this week you're going to be getting a review of Girls Just Want to Have Some. But before that, I want to give you all a heads up that you will not be hearing Guy and Dando reviewing this episode. Now you'll be going back through time to where Mitch and Dando ruled the podcasting world. This was a Patreon exclusive we did several years ago, and we thought we'd just chucked the one up for you guys on the free feed here so you can hear Mitch and Dando reviewing Girls Just Want to Have Sums? And Guy will We returning next week as per normal. So thank you guys once again for all of your ongoing support. Hope you all have a fantastic week and enjoy our review of Girls Just Want to Have Sums. Now that the boys and their atmosphere of intimidation are gone, we can finally breathe. Breathe, ladies. Now let's buckle down and do some math. Yes, how do numbers make you feel? What does a plus sign smell like? Is the number seven odd or just different? Are we going to do any actual math problems problems. That's how mensie. Math something to be attacked, to be figured out. But isn't it. I mean, confidence building can't replace real learning. Ear Lisa, sounds like you're trying to derail our self esteem engine. Let's sing it back on the tracks. The best thing I can ever be is to be okay with me me. Four Finger Discount, dude, welcome to fourth Thing Discount. This week. We are here to review it this week. It's just a fourth Thing Discount Patreon exclusive. Still this week. I guess we're recording this. We're not in the future. We're recording this on the fourth of February twenty twenty. So by the time this reaches the free feed, I wonder what it's going to be twenty twenty three, twenty four. Well, yeah, I suppose. Yeah, you've returned from the grave. I have want to come back seven seasons later and you're back. Yeah, same if you and Guy. If you and Guy have disbanded for Finger Discount in the interim, then it's going to be like, would you wait until the calendar day? Like the podcast, the RSS feed stays dormant for two and a half years, and then it'd be like Willy Wonka coming back. The lights turned back on in the factory. We're here to talk about girls just want to have sums because our incredible, incredibly generous patron, mister Seth weens that's desperate. No, he's not desperate. That's incredibly generous. Now he's paid one hundred dollars to choose as most of the people who've ever paid me a hundred dollars for a service have been very desperate, but they've also been elderly businessman. It's been in the car park, I said, the better he wants us to talk about. Check out my reviews. I'm Troop Advisor. Girls just want to have sums, and Mitch has been given this scathing reviews on social media. So I really enjoyed it until the end. I thought it fell off a cliff at the end, really um. I thought it started off a cliff, and then it started to crawl its way past the play. It started to so like it got thrown off a cliff in the opening act. It got this is sparted and kicked down the hole and then it slightly just snagged and caught itself and it started to try really hard despite its own inability and climbing strength to make its way back up, and like watching a spider trying to climb out of a toilet bowl. For a moment there I went, you know what, go you good thing, you can do it. I believe in you. But then, like the venomous, poisonous Satan's creature that it was, was flushed back down the toilet and the final lacks bad storytelling, Grebit and went love storytelling through it all. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, it's not it's not all bad. There's there's some good stuff in there. There's a lot of stuff in this one. But I'll get so do you want do you want me to jump straight into my problem? Do you want to synopsis? How it we talk about? I know people know this is a season seventeen episode. Would everyone have watched this? I feel like there would, particularly Patriots. I feel like there would be some people. You're listening to this before you've watched it, You're a fool, Yeah, but I think some people would if it was me for silly billies, if they're doing that. But sometimes if it's an episode. I've done this with movies before. I just listened to the Star Wars spoiler special because I don't really have any care about that being spoiled. So it was more a case of I listen to people review this, I'll know everything that happens. But then when I do watch the movie, I'll go in with my expectation exactly where it's supposed to be. And that's probably the best way for me to have fun. And I think that some people that stop watching The Simpsons in season ten might be the best way to go about it. You go, oh, look, I'll listen to the review for that, and then I can make my decision on whether or not I want to watch it. Well, okay, so the story is that what device is schooled in the first place? I know, they get a new principle, a principal Skinner slandering women. Yeah yeah, so he says girls and good at maths. They get a female who's played by friends as mcdormant by the way, Okay, yeah, very really unrecognized. Yeah yeah. So she decides to split the school between girls and boys, so girls go one way, boys or the other. Lisa realizes that they're not going to be teaching proper math in the girls section of the school, so she tries to sneak to the boys section. But the only way to do so we need to dress up as a boy. She gets beaten up, she does all the things, she becomes a boy essentially in order to be to fit in, and then she How does this end? How would you describe the way this ends? What's the ending to this story? Because to me, it didn't have an ending. What is the ending to this story? Let's just reveals that it was her all along. Lisa then realizes that boys don't have it as easy as what she thinks, and then nothing, and then nothing that she hits Martin with a chair, and the b plot is that Homer and Marge at each other because Homer doesn't think women are as good as men. Basically, yeah, and oh that's right. Martin just comes in and plays the flute, and that doesn't get wrapped up either. He gets kicked to the doghouse by the dog and then that's the end of That's the last we see of him. And here's the other thing. Here's the other thing. This is what really annoyed me. They don't wrap up the fact that the schools divided. We haven't even gotten to the fact that the parts that had always be yet so okay, So how did Lisa win the award when she wasn't even enrolled? Well, she's rolled under a fact name how she turned up. Okay, Homer and Marge story never gets wrapped up. The other thing is so they don't rectify the fact that the school was split up into two by the end of it just ends and then the next episode it's back to normal again. You mentioned this recently, like when they have, um, they build a tower in Lisa's room make room for Lisa in season ten, Yeah, and then just not fixed this. It's a pretty big change. Yeah. Um. Skinner is also just left as a groundskeeper and has not learned a lesson. No, now here's okay, So my problems in a So when this out two thousand and six, ye okay, now two and twenty. This episode feels so badly like it's been written by someone with a massive chip on their shoulder and someone that's like, you can't even be funny anymore because some feminist is going to say that you're joking about blah blah blah. It's sort of taken the piss out of feminist. What Skinner says is awful, but then they make the feminist counter argument stupid. All they do all that happens in this episode from both sides of gender is they look for the worst in each side of gender, and nothing is shown to act as a consequence for that or to act as a counterbalance to that. So Skinner firstly massively out of character, suddenly just goes off the deep end as a as a misogynist and thinks that women are dumb and doesn't understand yeah, and not only that is so stupid that he can't talk his way out of it and can't think of how to like that. Instantly, I'm like, well, this is a massively out of character. Then they do not show all they show feminists as a wishy washy people that you know, it's how does math make you? How does it make you? Feel? Like? They relentlessly mock feminism, which would be fine if they also showed what the positives of it are, and they don't do that because even by having Lisa be really good at maths, that's not what the feminist agenda is. So they like, she's not even showing that thing of like, oh yes, but this is you know, this can be the positive upshot of trying to push for equal rights. It just happens to be Lisa's really good at maths. But Lisa was always really good at maths, So I'm not learning anything that we didn't already know. This just basically comes across as people go on, how stupid a feminists and boys are disgusting. That's that is what annoys me. And the whole thing of the boys sided school falling to shit again needs some sort of counter because of the fact that all boys schools exist and they don't descend into an anarchy. Yeah overnight, Um that like there was just it was all one way storytelling and lost common denominated stuff and not a shred of thought or intelligence about how they would try to find the funny in this setup. I didn't I didn't appreciate how they sort of played up that boys just can't be nice. Yeah, there's no way a boy could possibly know. When they made her beat up Ralph, I was like what what? Yeah? Yeah, like that was awful to watch. I felt I felt horrible. There was no repercussions for that. It's just no she becomes accepted, Yeah, her even apologize. She feels no guilt or remorse. Ralph doesn't understand he's standing there with a smile on his face. She punches him, he runs off crying, and that's it. Yeah, she gets cheered. Yeah. Yeah, um the So there's a funny way. So I just watched Mulan over the weekend and there's a really funny line in that when Eddie Murphy's character is Mushu is teaching Mulan how to fit in, and she's like, punch me in the face. It's how men say hello. Like that's funny. But then afterwards you see the men form a bond and they start to trust and then they find out who she actually is. And then even though she gets banished, the core soldiers still accept her for who she is, which doesn't happen in this episode either. So there's absolutely no learning and there's no acceptance and principal Skinners, the one takeaway and lesson that Skinner has is I don't have opinions anymore. Yeah, just don't be your dickhead. That's the lesson that you're supposed to learn. You can have all the opinions that you like, just don't have shipped ones. And if you do have a ship one And someone says that's a shit opinion. Put your hand up and apologize for it. You don't have to go become a groundskeeper that's too scared to speak because you're worried about upsetting the feminazis. That in a nutshell was what I really really did not like about the episode. Now that's said, I did enjoy Lisa, Lisa's role, Lisa trying to go under cover, Lisa trying apart from the Martin sorry, is from the punching Wealth thing um, Lisa doing what she can to study maths. Lisa was Lisa would never do that. She'd never punch regardless if she wants to learn maths or not, she wouldn't punch Realth. No, that was a moment where I thought that she would give it up and just go no, this is or come up with some excuse or some reason, whatever it might be. It just felt all that moment was just it was just horrible to watch. Yeah, or it was going to be the moment that she punches him and then they turn on her. So like, you know, you just punched the weakest kid in school and that should not be a good thing. No, Like you know that not just the weakest kids, the most mentally challenged kids. Yeah, there's that as well. Um, yeah, there's a lot going on in the episode that really it's just there's nothing positive to take away from that. Like I was like, there's an ugliness in this writing that I'm not used to in this show, like a show that normally sarcasm yes, and satire, yes, But I was like, well, what are they actually trying to say here? And I couldn't find anything positive in what they were actually aiming for. Well, I've just got that. It just felt like they had a message, but they just copped out at every chance, and nobody learned a lesson. I've no one's learning any lessons here. Yeah, there were several and this is what I was talking about about crawling out. There were several turning points. I was like, Okay, this is this is where they're going to build the thing, and then it just doesn't happen because the itchy and scratch you play. Cut that whole fucking thing out. That in five minutes of just wasted television. It was a good parody of liking I'll give it that. It was entertaining. Yeah, cut that out and add five minutes to the end, and he wrapped some shit up. It would have been better in any other episode. Yeah, wrap some shit up because it feels like they ran out of time. Everything just sort of just ends without any actual obvious No one learns anything, there's no there's no moral lessons here. It's just everyone's a bad person. That's that's a springfield. Get rid of that first five minutes and have Homer apologize to Marge. Yeah, have them have that discussion, because Homer doesn't learn anything. Well, he's a skinner. I'm just gonna have an opinion anymore. No, someone needs to explain to him what you just said. Yeah, like I said, that feels like he's been written by a forty year old white guy. Who who who wasn't written by I'll tell you what. In the good Place, there's a character if I do like that show. Have you been watching it? Yeah? So you know in the new season seeing season three? No first two. So they bring a character in in the third season who is like your ultimate chauvinistic douchebag, And there's a conversation where he's like, what do you mean I can't tell a woman to smile? What if she'd genuinely be prettier? Prettier if she smiled, I'm helping her that. It feels like if that guy was in real life. He wrote this episode, and he wrote it in a response to being told, don't tell me to smile, Like, that's kind of what al mats Oh, Matt, Matt, it's a forty year old white guy. Oh man, oh man. He also wrote some Bible stories. By the way, Really, it's been a bad week for Matt Selman. He listens to this show too. That's amazing. Well, hopefully he's not a patriot. So a couple of years from now, he's given up. Six years from the now. When did this go out? When? When the episode often years ago, two thousand and six, So it was a thirty four year old white man. Is he forty years old? Forty eight? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, so close. Yeah, he's outraged. It does feel like someone who It feels like the episode is trying to tell us a message, but it just doesn't understand the message by the end of it. It's just it's just a it's a strange one. It was I want to reel it back. It's someone that listens. Fuck it, sorry, Matt, it's bad. You should have seen Mitch's faces, and you can feel free Matt to track me down and tell me all the things that I've done wrong in my life. Um, the list is equally as long. What was your favorite moment? I had a couple of favorite moments here. I did like Charmers commenting on Skinner's car. Oh house that had Yeah, that was very very funny. But the Bart Junior Bate switch, Yeah, I thought it was from his penis. Yea, and I did as silly as it was, I was running up in the doghouse. Yes, Yeah, that was my favorite. Happened that was really good, as absurd as it was. Yeah, yeah, that was excellent the first time. Just no end to that story though, I needed to wrap that up. Yeah yeah. The first time that it happened, I actually thought that the cut wasn't perfect, that they needed to wait a fraction longer before he saw Homer on the couch. Um. But then the second time, Yeah, absolute perfection. I just feel like this is the first time I can remember we're both the A and the B plot. Don't get wrapped up. They just probably yeah, because not normally Margin Home would have at least had a discussion where they're sort of they're happy with each other again. You can't leave the Simpsons open ended like that. Says that Matt Selman eventually became a writer on Seinfeld after two years of failed spec scripts, and I wonder if this was one of those scripts that he pulled out of the draws a chop. Yeah, he did write, That's how he got on The Simpsons, I believe. Yeah, okay, yeah, submitted a spec script for Sinfeldum of his writing on The Simpsons, Matt said, the hardest thing that we have to try, that we have to try, it must be due, is to try and make each episode as good as everything that's come before it. We have a legacy of greatness and you don't want to be the person that ruins the Simpsons. And I just wonder if maybe Matt could have done with putting that on a post it note on his desk while he was writing this episode. Harsh words from Mitch green Duck. So overall, I'm not gonna lie. I enjoyed. You have to turn your brain off because there's a lot of shit that's just like it feels like the Ralph moment I didn't like. I was just bothered by the end had nothing got wrapped up. That's what annoyed me the most. I know you annoyed with most of the episode, and I've got here. I'm enjoying this play, but I hope it leads to something and it didn't and it didn't. Know, Yeah, like the same deal. I enjoyed the play, And I think that that in another time and place, that that could have been a really good segment in and of itself was a really good segment. It was just a setup skin of making the sexiest remark. Yeah, and that did not Like you didn't need five minutes worth of play for that set up to actually work. It could have happened to any given It could have happened in any number of what Edna, Yeah, I could have said it to Edna. He it could have just been a school assembly. Like, there's a million different ways that that could have happened that don't take five minutes to introduce. It just felt like it was going a very long time. Next question, you were there eating the paste. My first question, this is the easiest question of all. What was Lisa's new name not toilet? I forgot her first name. It was Boyman, Jack Boyman, Jake, Jake damn, Um, do you just not put trivia questions together anymore? I'd watched this on one lunch break at work. It's been an insanely busy week for me. I'm sorry, so no, I didn't have time to actually take notes. Um. I just watched it as recently as I possibly could. Um the Mitch grint away. Look, I tried. What was the symbol on Lisa's T shirt when she became Jake and Adam? I thought it was going now it was a football? Oh okay, yeah, a boy? Yeah makes sense. Second question, what was Marge studying when Homer interrupted they were younger? Flashback calculus? Yeah, and she's not allowed to do all the calculat That was a very good joke. Yes, now I haven't been able to do all the calculus that. What was the equation that Lisa souls on the white board or incorrectly solved to be fair minus five plus five equals what white times? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, next question from you that you're you're up next? Oh okay, sorry that was your question. Yeah? What color skirt or skinner wearing pink pink blouse? What was Carney's nickname for Millhouse Carney? Is it Carney. Is Carney the board one? Oh, Kearney, Kearney, Well, part of me I was thinking of Emma Carney, the AFLW player. Kearney lost on me. I apologize mil Jew, mil Jew, which isn't that bad? On the on the vague subject of mill or Jew. More to the point, did you see Brian Cranston's Martin Mountain Jew Super Bowl ad? Men's fucking bizarre? A parody of talking about it though the shining, I am talking about it, I'm not buying the drink. Was anyone ever buying Mountain Jew? Parody of I used to love mountain dew? Really? What is it like a lemonade? I've never dreamed of. Yeah, it just never looked appealing to me. I had a well when I was younger. I think it was a green drink. I used to have a T shirt with in the Mountain Dew logo called Brokeback Mountain Dew Do. The dude was the Slen Twin. Du made it myself. Um, I say, T shirt, tattoo whatever. Um, we all make choices. I yeah, so it's a parody of the shining. But it's just you're waiting for something to happen that dulan't quite happened and what was this episode? Yeah, and it's kind of like, why is Cranston doing this of all people? It's probably three million dollars. Yeah, but there's that like it must have looked better on script, like on the page than what it turned into. He's just doing from winning the Ryan Brian Murray, Bill rad Ground for cheap. Yeah, every day is different. In the jeep. That was really good. I am. I usually sit down and watch all the Super Bowl commercials, having had a chance too. I've ever seen those two Okay that we were watching it at work on the on the TV. Yeah, I think Galaxy's Edge got every single fucking commercial, but just about it was. I think one of my favorite super Bowl ones for recent years was when they had Um Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto as the duelings. Wow, it's dueling spots. Um. I think it was for a car commercial. But yeah, very very cool. I might at the end of this episode I'll show it to you. Cool. I mean Donald commercial was pretty good. Actually, it was just a bunch of band of people waking up after various nights out or it's just how different people look when they wake up, situations they wake up in, and then it's a guy delivering uber eats McDonald's to get you ready for the day. It was good, right, so that was your final question one, Yeah, I think so, get into the review. The original air date was April thirtieth, twenty six, not Tribo Ga gag is. Characters are surprised, character surprised, the family home has a heart attack. Yeah right, Yeah, kicks off with the Springfield theater district and there's really not much to explain to chiscratchy tablets, a linking parody. I thought it was gonna be a camelot But do you feel like all they really had here was that the circle of knife sounds like the circle of life, and then they built the rest of it around that, but it didn't add a lot else. Yeah, it's sort of Yeah. I enjoyed it. Though I enjoyed the visual. I enjoyed the general gist of theater going and that sort of stuff. And it's kind of a funny juxtaposition to have your usual waspy theater going types going to watch this and then the Simpsons family sitting in the midst of it all. I love marg being worried and interact with her. That's exactly what my mum would be like, that's what they do. Have you been to see the linking? No? I haven't. Actually, the animals come in the ards at the start when this thing circle of life. Yeah, okay, that's kind of cool. So the director comes out, she's a female director. We also got the home at dumb Down Jack with the book, which I was just like, yeah, yeah, forgettable. The doctor comes out, she's female. Skinner makes the sex of remarks about girls are being smart and yeah. It just felt very out of character, first kind to say that, to say it, but then be to insist on it, and then see talking the massive mishandling of it after yeah, yeah and again. Whilst I could understand that if the episode was setting Skinner up as being a foil for any number of men who have publicly done this and then said something really stupid not handled the scandal well afterwards, that would be fine, except the episode doesn't appear to see Skinner as the bad guy here. He loses his job. It's almost like the victim. But that's the way he plays at PSK. You know, he has to become the ground ski Asystem exactly, and it's sort of kind of got one foot in his camp in doing that. You can imagine people who think the ways you can act in this would watch this going damn fucking right. We can't even depend on anything anymore. Yeah, exactly. You can't even say that all women are shit at Matt's. The four Finger Discount Network is brought to you by our incredible supporters I'm Patreon. It's such a thrill for me to be back in my hometown Springfield. She also graduated from Springfield Elementary. Principal Skinner, you know, Julianna, it's no surprise you became such a success. You always got straight a's in school. Well I remember getting a bee or two in math. Ha ha, Well, of course he did. You are a girl. No, all I meant was, from what I've seen, boys are better at math science, the real subjects there. That should put the matter behind us. Calm down, Calm down. I'm sure Principal Skinner didn't mean girls are inherently inferior. Oh, of course not. I don't know why girls are worse. One thing we can all agree on, though, This little lady sure looks pretty tonight, am I Right? So then the mop of protesting at the school not even say that someone shit at maths because they're a woman, even say woman in maths. Gonna fix it. He's gonna pretend like he agrees. Again, like that element of it that can work is satire. If he's not the hero, or if he's not even just ambivalent treated ambivalently. They have the first of a diversity forum, or first of many, as he says, as many Skinner worth address. And he just doesn't know what to say. He puts his foot in it. Today we celebrate the first of many, many, many, many diversity forums. Why is it that women appear to be worse at math than men? What is the source of this illusion? Or is I call it the biggest lie ever told? You're a worse version of Hitler. Please believe me. I understand the problems of women. See the principles are ranny? Am I wearing women's clothes? I didn't notice when I look in my closet, I don't see male clothes or female clothes. They're all the same. Are you saying that men and women are identical? Oh? No, of course not. Women are unique in every way. No, he's saying women and men aren't equal. No, no, no, it's the differences, which there are none, that make the saneness exceptional. Just tell me what to say. At first, I'm watching someone I feel bad for skinner, But then I realized, no, you're saying the wrong things. Mate, Yes, he's being an asshole. It would you say he's being an asshole though? Or is he just? Yes? You can't put on address to show to try to make a point about I don't even see your gender, Like, would you would you see it that was doing it deliberately. You've already proved that you do. If by the end he understood that what he did was wrong, would you still look at him now as being an asshole? I don't think it's more. See if he was doing this and then by the end he was like, oh wow, I really shouldn't have done that. Now I understand why. Then at this point it's like he's not being an asshole. He's just doing something. Doesn't realize he's wrong. Correct If he learns, he's If he learns the less, but he doesn't, that's why it's bad. Yeah, that's what they needed to have him understand what he's doing is wrong. If you don't, and then he just feels people watching going yeah, fuck off at leave Skinner alone. It's like if you've got a dog in a movie that and the dog shits in the house, it's not till the trained in the lane. That's like your comedy things. The dog is always shitting. If that dog doesn't learn to shit outside by the end of the movie, that's a ship dog, bad dog. Yeah. If it does learn to go outside, it's a beautiful dog and you love it. You're gonna be really upset when the farmer takes it out back and puts a shotgun to its head, because that's what happens to movie dogs kids. One dog, well, nearly the dog in Babe the dog wasn't a pig going to be killed? No, because it attacked. Yeah, yeahma, hogger was going to kill Oh yeah, farmer, scary time monster. And then the second one, the dog nearly hangs itself from the bridge. What the city one o the dogs? The dogs hanging from a bridge? Why? I can't remember how. I can't remember how I got that situation. But I was hanging from the bridge. Wait, I'm gonna wata google this. It could be wrong. What happens when you let George Miller direct a kids film? I've googled Babe Pig, City Dog Bridge. So you have the dog hanging from the bridge. So it was a pit ball. Yeah, I was hanging from the snakes hanging upside down. That's a different thing wrapped around his neck was facing down. Though I don't know. It's a dog hanging from the bridge and was going to die. Dogs get treated poorly in Babe films. That's the best. That's the moral that's the point. Yes, don't if you dog with James Cromwell, the skinner gets replaced by France to Domant aka Melanie Uppuot. She splits the school in half boys and girls. Then it ends with the boys forced to do ball and dancing, which was a really weird visual was strange. I didn't mind it from the perspective of the audience though, when you just see charmers kind of conduct orchestrating the music or conducting the music seemed to be flat. Yeah, the family are all at breakfast and they do the whole reminding the views of the story what they're splitting the kids, the boys and girls at school. We got the part Junior gag. I did like that. That's what they would normally do with mister teeney Well, I was gonna say, like it's it's good, but it is also almost a beat for beat ripoff of the naked gun, one of the most famous naked gum jokes ever off Nice Baba and then there's an actual baby. You just don't have this episode. Well, I mean, if you gotta rip off, let's steal a joke from a movie from the eighties. It's gotta be an artists. All this whong about girls and man as silly. Women are as smart as man. Why a woman invented liquid paper? Well, you know what, a man invented actual paper. Well, a woman also invented the windshell wiper, which goes great with another male invention, the car. I think a woman came up with nylon stockings. I mean probably, we certainly use them. Let see, men also have rocket ships, suspension bridges, constitutional government. It's no shoes, bread knuckles, pinball machines, the Renaissance? Why did women invent sleeping on the couch? Have you ever been banished to the couch? No, I'm my house. I've never been banished. Have you has ever got to a point where I've never been banished to the couch because I put a door lock that can only be opened if you solve algebra. Have you banished ash to the couch? No? No, no, We've never had any fights that have been couchworthy. I feel like if you're at the point where you're banishing the other person to another room, something needs to be done. Yeah, let go see a council. It should never get to that point. You should never go to sleep angry at each other no down bottle. Anyway, I've never gone to sleep angry at out. She's probably going to sleep angry at me, but never like she still stayed next to me. But although, to be honest, almost worse because you just feel anger radiating off the other person. Like have you ever got I've never got an elbow back. No. But somehow, even though it's just someone laying you know how they're laying down, you're laying down, you can feel the tension. You can feel them being awake, yeah, like they're not moving, but you're like, this is just just not I can feel her being angry. It's like when you can feel someone's watching you, like someone's there, but it's a thousand times worse. Yeah. Yeah, when it's your partner angry in the same bed. Yeah, knowing cut a few genitals in mid of the night if they wanted to, And you also know that you've probably got two more days of it. I don't think I've ever been in that situation. I think we've had a few blobs, but nothing that last two days. I can see you doing something to pissash off, though, does that Oh yeah, it's all been just your mum On the other hand, No, that was last week. Well we up to so skinners on the new principles should divide. Weirdly, Mum insists that I come over and sleep next to her when she's mad at me, just so I feel less. Kids are all arrive at school, are really painting a school. So it's tw different colors that the girls they were to go and the boys and whatnot. And the girls get like an uplifting farewell from Otto and the boys are all locked in a cage. That was funny as well, that was very cool like that obviously that sets the scene that the boys are going to go to hell. Yeah. I don't get why they have to treat the boys differently. I treat them like the animals. Well why is it that? What is about having girls in the room that stops them from just like that? Anyway? So why why do they not have like that when the girls are they don't like the girls? Yeah, yeah, so why they're not biding the girls? Yeah, just suddenly become a law unto themselves. Yeah, it's not like there's no authority figure and it's still a teacher had that had the school descended to that because they didn't have a teacher anymore. That would be one thing of the flies or something. Yeah, just because there's no girl in the classroom, that's it's not the case. Sit there with your wighing out, but you're not going to cause anarchy all the time. Have you ever done at school? Had my wing out twice? You had your wing out twice at school on purpose? I feel like it's a crime that you're admitting to. We're up to, So, Lisa, my wing was my business. I was in school, lisas the dooring, all the painting by women in the girls side of the school. Doesn't like their new approach to math though, and as you mentioned at the start, it's just weird, Like they say that girls is ever fair, crack at mats and not dumb, yet when it comes to learning mats they portray them as basically Yeah, they basically proved Skinner's point in Lisa realized that she watches the boys that can be proved or should be proved. No, it sort of goes against the moral of this episode. Yeah, yeah. She sneaks into the boys school for a mental challenge, Um tells the wolf to go away, sees the class learning gets it wrong. It's happy that she got it wrong. She's just like I said, we know Lisa's happy. Yeah. Yeah, Martin got it right, didn't he know? Because she the first the first equation he got wrong because he forgot about the cone um or about the carrot knows the area of the carrot knows. Oh, of course, yeah, one third something times the base the skin at the base times skin is now the assistant groundskeeper. No girl is allowed, Prince, not Skinner. It's groundskeeper Skinner now assistant clowns keeper. Yeah, puke, assistant groundskeeper Skinner. Do you think it's wrong that I can't get the best math education because I'm a girl. I don't have any opinions anymore. All I know is that no one is better than anyone else, and everyone is the best at everything. Not you. You're the worst. Now get closing in those squirrels. Please be reasonable. I'm sure we could this clip here, this quote here, Everyone is the best at everything. This is true to an extent when it comes, and I've mentioned it before. I was kick, You're no less celebrated goal anymore. Yeah, scoring doesn't matter. Yep, that's poors shit. Absolutely play sport to compete, yes, and everyone that's the problem. Everyone is not the best at everything. Yeah, it's also vital lessons to occasionally learn that you will fail. Outsides. Yes, the squirrels poisoning skin to there suddenly became happy Tree Friends. Yeah, I was really bizarre, Like I was just like, Okay, I guess Happy Tree Friends were still a thing. I don't know when that was. I really don't remember. Um, I completely forgot it exist unto you just mentioned it. Yeah, it's quite crank Yankees, remember that was the thing. Oh yeah, yeah, I never watched it as it used to be on like before sighting the South Park. I think i'd always see like the last one minutes. Yeah, I there was a time that prank phone calls for the height of comedy. You kicked my dog? Yeah? Um I I didn't mind the squirrel joke certainly where it started, like the idea of poisoned their squirrels, that sounds like something that Willie would do. But then they have them actually pulled the poison into his mouth. Kinners. Actually, well that well, that's the resolution. That's why Skinner didn't learn anything. He got killed by squirrels. Well he came back, though, how do we see him again? But he's just brain dead. Possibly Lisa is talking to Marge. Let me get the flashback he of Hommer interrupting her learning the calculus when it happened, make Dunbergen erode some beach. Oh, I love too, but I've got my calculus final tomorrow, My baby. The only math you need is you plush me equals forever. Oh since then, I haven't been able to do any of the calculus I've encountered in my daily life. But that's not going to happen to you. It's very true you never encounter maths in your day to day life. It's very Maths is very, very pointless some stuff. I guess maybe when it comes to playing snooker. Yeah, I would love to have a protracted with me on the table. Yeah yeah. But besides that, I actually do or if I'm like, the amount of times I'm like angle of incidents has to equal to the angle of um fuck whatever the yeah, the exit angle. This is the thing. Do kids still write at school or alto pretty much all laptops? Now? I think that's a bit sad. HM. Imagine like not being able to write? Well, why do they teach kids to write in primers? With shouse for future historians. Yeah what why why teach me how to write in primary school? I gotta know how to pass notes to your first love. Yeah that's true, draw tee pictures of the teacher and whatnot, sick notes, how to forge them. Yeah, there's there's still some skills that you can use with a pen. Did you ever a forge your Paris and I used to practice some peple times. Yeah, my ms was talking moms is impossible. My dads were very jadan over. What I realized when I got to high school is that I'd never be able to get dad's right. But I could make up one one. Just make up a signature that has a D in it. Yeah, that'd be fine. Not the first name, just a D squint. Yeah, well his first name is Darren's. I mean like just deep Dan squiggle. Okay, yeah, it's gonna be d G squiggle. What fully players do that? Yeah? First letter, the last name into just a cross march suggest that Lisa dressed up as a boy. Um han't walks in. He could put full by it. Invites to the movies, you know, invite our kids the cool friend. Yeah, Lisa is then at school and it's really, actually really good acting from the yardly here ye playing the boy? That really and and this is the sort of stuff that I really did like that. Um bend it like Beckham style? Um, what was it about a boy? She's no, there's something else. She's the the man. Yeah, bye, I can kiss the Amanda Show. I used to love the Amanda Show. I really don't you kill me? I never saw it. Okay, you're gonna judge. Um, But I wonder if this was the voice she pitched to do bart this was her boy voice. Interesting, that would be a cool thing to do for your for your own Easter egg. Like, I'm just gonna slip this in. Yeah, ow, what are you playing? Punch for a punch? How So? What's your name, Nuby, I'm a Jake. That's your Christian name. What's your surname? Boy man? Boyman? Jake, boyman. You have toilet paper on your shoe? Nah, yeah, I guess they do. I'm gonna call you toilet. My name isn't toilet, it's jake. Hey, you're talking toilet toilet. They want to know his last name. That's actually true. Boys just referred to each other as our last names. And she goes with boy man. They named her toilet what I don't name a toilet? I can't remember because she had toilet paper stuck to her till herp of stuff to the shoe. Yeah. They're in class and Nelson has the gun drawing. I didn't appreciate all the guns in this. I guess do kids still like that when as a kid I wasn't. I wasn't really Presumably guns, presumably young boys would still play soldier and play with pretend guns and that sort of thing. Lisa gets the equation wrong, and this is where she's happy. Bat she gets the equation wrong. Um. Yeah, they're in the cafeteria. Did you notice here that Ralph is in the fetal position on the ground. Oh no, I missed that. Yeah. I thought they're going to reference Ralph here. Know you was just hunched on the ground. Yeah, just a broken little little man. Um. I did enjoy asking me your house about Lisa. I had to break it off. Yea clinging that's really really good, And I'm glad that she didn't come clean there. Yeah. Yeah, Actually her voice does get high pitch yeah yeah yeah. So do you miss having the girls around? Nah? Girls never really got me. Did you know Lisa Simpson? I heard she was pretty cool Lisa. Oh yeah, we totally had a thing, but I had to break it off. What the hell are you talking about? She got too clingy. Millhouse doesn't do clingy. I have to cove that was what eating food spills the food on Nelson. This here, though, if you're gonna do this, you're gonna go all the way. If you're gonna have Nelson beat Lisa up, she gotta show some signs of it. I understand why you can't show the repercussions of a male beating a female, then don't do it in the first place. Like I said, you mean likes to be has to be something, not just her crying. Her pants were like, her clothes were a little bit scuffed. If Bard comes in saying Nelson really wailed on this kid at school today, Remember when Barker beaten up by Nelson, he can't having a trash heroid. Yeah, I understand why you can't have felt comfortable. I felt uncomfortable just hearing a cry. To be honest, it shouldn't have happened. Yeah, you don't need to do that. Why did you need to do that? Yeah? No, that's a good point. She didn't need to be beaten up, so it could have actually talked away out of it. I mean perfect. Resolution could have just been that the whole I love you, I love you, and then they start that fight and then Nelson starts fighting someone else and she slips away. Yeah. Perfect. Then you don't have to watch Lisa or be aware that Lisa has been beaten up by a bigger, meaner kid. What you could do is you have her runoff sort of scared, and Bark goes something not right about her, follows her, sees her sort of behind a dumpster or something she comes clean to. But yeah, you didn't need a girl getting beaten up by a boy. I know you didn't see it, but I wasn't comfortable to later have her, like, to have her be the victim of violence and then perpetrate violence banks that even more in Yeah, yeah, it just I didn't sit well with me at all. Hay Lies, you'll missed it. While you were at girls' school, Nelson totally wailed on this door. Oh my god, that's right, I'm toilet toilet. So did you tell Mommy got beat up? Not yet? If I do, she'll never let me go to the boys math class again. Hey, no one with a choice should ever have to be a girl. I'll teach you how to be a boy. You would do that for me? That is so sweet? You're a boy? Nothing is sweet? How that hurt? Sweet? Now, when you eat like a boy, only two French fibes and five should make it into your mouth. If they fall on the floor, you want them more because then they come with extra toppings. I'm gonna be sick awesome doing that guy's bag while he's not looking. I am looking, and Duke start a puke war that you cannot finish. Good night. Madge is still angry at Homer. They're in bed talking about it. Missus, where could keep the doghouse? So Homer? Still it didn't learn anything, but at least it was funny. Yeah, Lisa, I must then pick a fight. So she picks Ralph as we mentioned, and I just felt so horrible. Yeah. Now from a final test to fully become a man, you must pick a fight with someone weaker than you. A fight. Haven't been rejecting the last part of me that's still a girl. Do it, Lisa, you'll be greater than or equal two boys. Even though you're only eight, your possibilities are infinite twenty seven. Okay, I'll do it, But whom should I beat up? These darts are itchy? Fine, I'll beat up Ralph. Give me a lunch money. Okay, I guess I'm gonna have to get this party started. Fight fight, fight, forgive me for this. You just beat up the most harmless kid in school. Well done, Hey, toilet, I want to play guns. Sure, and again I get the line in there about you know what a man like you know until you've picked on someone weaker than you. That's funny. That is a that's a funny joke about toxic masculinity, but don't show it. But don't actually go ahead with that at least because then with a character that wouldn't do it undercuts everything that you just said. So's Lisa's going against everything she believes in order to be to fit in with these people that she doesn't need to fit in with. It's like, yeah, like I just I don't know, Yeah, don't beat up Ralph. It reminded me of when um, this little Wiggie when they threw them in this puddle and whatnot. It just wasn't fun at all. Lisa now fits in. Now they're accepting it because she beat up the disabled child gets at the montage, so she's playing guns? Whatnot? The people playing in Millhouse's eye weird. He wears glasses, yes, well, and they're big glasses too, but the plane was doing some loops. HiT's in the front of the glasses coming coming on the upshot. He just got in underneath. Lisa then wins yet Standing at cheap and Awards? And how long has she been at the school? Four? She hasn't enrolled. She just she just snuck into the Has there been a what the hell is going on here? What I felt like? The Outstanding Achievement award hinted it there being a passage of time? Okay, they haven't. They haven't indiscriminated amount of time. They haven't asked where's Lisa at the girl's calling more? Well, they're too busy feeling Yeah, She reveals herself, but claims it's because she was a boy, That's why she's good at maths. Now, why's the auditorium in the same room? Everything else is separated, but boys and girls are still in the same auditorium. They're just divided. This the boys and the girls went in. It was just the boys. Now the girls are there because the girls were equally shocked, weren't they? Yeah, yeah, that's any more questions. Trophy gets throne, hits Ralph again. Now she's been beaten up by both Lisas or whatever. It's um poor Ralph not good. At least that one was an accident. Yeah. Lisa then realized that boylife is more kle than she. I don't. I don't. What is the lesson Lisa learns from this episode? They try to play it off like she's learned a lesson. Yeah, they try to do the South Park I've learned something today, but she hasn't and I haven't. It's like, oh, boy's life isn't as easy, and you know, isn't as what its cracked up to be. I'm what what? What? What do you think this? What has happened in this episode? What is her final? She says something on the lines of that it's not as cruzies, it's all the lines. It's not as cruzy as what she thought it was to be a boy? What have I become? I always thought the boys had it easier. No he didn't. You just thought the boys got to do maths. Yeah, um like boys having it easier was never a point in this episode, nor hasn't ever been a point with Lisa. But now I see their world is more cruel and sadistic than I ever imagined. Yeah, boys cheering. Um I did get better at math. He didn't. You just did the math that you already knew. But it was only by abandoning everything that I believed in. You didn't get better at math. You were just able to study math the way you'd always been studying it. Well, that's right. Then they actually do cut her off. So I guess the real reason we don't see many women in maths and science is dot dot dot. Would you hurry it up? Please? You're cutting into the award for best flouts. That's what I've got. Do they have a message and then they forgot what it was. Whatever the answer is, I'm glad I'm a girl, and I'm glad I'm good at math. What happened? I don't get it. I get the thing of they may be going with the reason that we don't see many women women in maths and science, and then she gets cut off by a man, So that could be the that they're going something there. Um, that's the best I've got. I didn't actually look at it like that. That could be the game he was going for. Yeah, yeah, but then the flowers do not see much of it, do not see any criminally under under estimated. And there's probably quite a number of examples throughout history of female scientists whose um work went unnoticed or ignored for decades before a man looked at it, before a man had the idea that someone else had. Basically, but I don't understand. But if your point is that a men are holding women back from learning mats, then why did you have a girl have to become a boy in order to learn I guess No, yeah that work, that works. Yeah, um, but the tracks from that women not is that the women weren't trying to learn actly. That's why I'm like, I'm confused. Yeah, the women aren't trying in this episode. Yeah yeah, so yeah, like they show yeah, in the scenes where they should be building up what is possible, they show the worst of it. They pander to what the people of Skinner's viewpoint is. So like, here's this guy who said this thing that's really stupid. But by the way, he was right. But he's been punished he shouldn't have been, and now he just thinks that he doesn't want to have opinions. I think they play enough too much that how horrible boys are, Like, there are horrible boys and there are horrible girls. Not all boys I like this, Yeah, not all girls like that, and so on and so forth. The episode is over swing and some sort of miss what do we learn? What'd you learn from the episode, Mitch? That thirty four year old men shouldn't write from your old girl about sexism? Yeah, that's probably it. Maybe the Simpsons Writer's Room in two thousand and six was lacking in diversity. Thank you for listening to a review of Girls Just Want to Have Sums. It was not a fantastic episode. There are parts of it that I enjoyed, but the overall story just left me befuddled. It just I don't think it knew what it wanted to do. Word Yeah, berfuddled. Yeah, I enjoy perfuddled. That's good. Probably the highlight of this episode. I thought I thought it knew what it wanted to be, and by the end of it it was like, I don't think it did. I don't think it had any fucking clue what it wanted to be. What it founds like the angry It feels like the angry manifesto of a postal worker before he goes into work and starts killing all of the female employees. This is the kind of episode where you really should have had a woman write it. It was directed by a woman, but it was written by a male directed by a woman. Yeah, directed by Nancy cruz Um. I would like it. I would honestly be very interests funny. Her first episode should directed Simpson's Bible Stories. Wow, I would read not a good team. Her and Matt not a good team. I would really like to know in their heart of hearts what were they trying to say? Yeah, because I want to believe in the best. I'm sure he can explain something to us. Yeah, I just want to know what happened to the school? How did it's going to get his job back? How did home we get out of the actual doghouse? How did he get out of the doghouse? Did he have to go via the couch? You first have to apologize to Sound as a little helper, make his way back to the couch, and then apologize to mar Just to get back to the bed. You have to go back through the hierarchy. Just yeah, where it was Maggie in all of this a bit of a mess. Yeah, Maygie doesn't have it appeared maybe at the play. But hope you enjoyed that set. How did they get the tickets? Look like a really expensive play. I hope you thought that was your hundred dollars worth seth But thank you so much for getting us for choosing that one. It was nice to have Mitch back after six long seasons. As you were recording this February fourth, twenty nineteen, twenty twenty. Yeah, man, man, time is flying. Imagine the things that is that will be different right now. This, by the way, people Nostril has this episode is why you're not hearing mentioned anymore, because it would just be a weekly rant. Yeah, he hasn't got it in him. Yeah no, and you don't have it in you like listeners don't have it in you. No, I'm like this. I'm sure GLD could find a Probably, I'll be honest. If there are people listening now, they probably never listened to the first ten seasons, Like who the fuck is this guy? This could suddenly come in to shit all over the show. Where's guy for his delightful charm? Yeah? Well if you think, well, I'll tell you what if you think that, if this is his attitude, he's not going to make it anywhere in the podcast industry. I guarantee you that guy could put a positive bit on this episode somehow. It's because he's a misogynist. Oh, any guys, were any final words for listeners? Uh? Microphones are measured by women? Who do you need to stop me? Now? I need to think of somewhere to go with it. I was um trying to think of, like stay on thame of this episode? No ending? Why? Why would why would a woman invent a microphone too amplify the voice of the husband, But she so dearly loves Let's everyone here, He's wisdom.
