[SPEAKER_00]: Subscribe. [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to another episode of the Eugene Hamilton podcast. [SPEAKER_00]: Of course, I'm Eugene Hamilton. [SPEAKER_00]: So good. [SPEAKER_00]: So good to connect with you today via this podcast. [SPEAKER_00]: Hope you're doing well. [SPEAKER_00]: Hope that your family is doing great. [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm so grateful for your time, for your attention. [SPEAKER_00]: Just for a few moments today. [SPEAKER_00]: Not going to be long today, but today I want to look at [SPEAKER_00]: What it means to have a mid-year reset, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Because we are pretty much halfway through the year. [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of stuff is going on. [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of stuff is going on and a personal lives. [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of stuff is going on and our family lives. [SPEAKER_00]: We've got some things that we've got to consider and reconsider. [SPEAKER_00]: I want you to kind of give you some guidance if I may with regard to this mid-year reset. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's pray God, we are grateful for this conversation. [SPEAKER_00]: Leaders in guidance, amen. [SPEAKER_00]: Some of us have heard recently for some of our friends, those that we are in community with, those that we are related to. [SPEAKER_00]: Some people have just simply thrown in the towel. [SPEAKER_00]: There are some people who have started off with a lot of vigor in January with their goal. [SPEAKER_00]: This is my year. [SPEAKER_00]: This is my season. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to crush every single goal and they've gotten six, seven months into the year and they've said, you know what, forget it. [SPEAKER_00]: I'll start again in January. [SPEAKER_00]: And instead of throwing in the towel, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Some people actually need maybe you, maybe you just need a reset. [SPEAKER_00]: You don't need to throw out your gold, throw out into the trash or down the garbage disposal, all the aspirations that you had. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we need to take a moment and reframe our goals. [SPEAKER_00]: See what happens in life sometimes. [SPEAKER_00]: We have these major goals that we fail to break down into bite size goals. [SPEAKER_00]: I'll tell you this story, probably, [SPEAKER_00]: Two, three months ago, I'm telling you again without a apology because it's relevant for right now. [SPEAKER_00]: I was watching an interview. [SPEAKER_00]: I should say with Charles Barkley. [SPEAKER_00]: And I just told someone not long ago that I'm a Phoenix son's fan. [SPEAKER_00]: They're like, what in the world? [SPEAKER_00]: You don't live in Phoenix. [SPEAKER_00]: You've never lived in Phoenix. [SPEAKER_00]: I've been the Phoenix, of course. [SPEAKER_00]: But I said, oh, yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Charles Barkley was traded from the Philadelphia seventy-sixers to the Phoenix sons. [SPEAKER_00]: When I just started getting into basketball and I liked his game, I was kind of built like him. [SPEAKER_00]: So in my mind, this wasn't as tall, right? [SPEAKER_00]: And so I just liked what he did when he was in the sun. [SPEAKER_00]: He got traded from the sun to another team, but I didn't want to be a bad wagon fan. [SPEAKER_00]: So I just stayed with the suns. [SPEAKER_00]: That was unnecessary background, but that's how it is. [SPEAKER_00]: Here is a story. [SPEAKER_00]: Charles Barkley was talking about how [SPEAKER_00]: in college, he was chubby, right? [SPEAKER_00]: But he was chubby with athletic abilities. [SPEAKER_00]: So he was constantly over three hundred pounds. [SPEAKER_00]: But because he had these massive calves, he could jump high, he could rebound, he could dunk. [SPEAKER_00]: So he got away with it. [SPEAKER_00]: He got to the NBA, so it says Charles Barkley and his conditioning wasn't on NBA level. [SPEAKER_00]: He was no longer running with these college boys. [SPEAKER_00]: He was now running with grown men in the NBA who were actually playing basketball to feed their families. [SPEAKER_00]: How different level? [SPEAKER_00]: It's different going to college, getting a degree, going to school for free, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Then now I'm trying to keep my spot on this team because this is my livelihood. [SPEAKER_00]: So about a second in the league, he said he went up to NBA. [SPEAKER_00]: He said he went up to a veteran player. [SPEAKER_00]: named Moses Malone and asked him why am I not getting more playing time. [SPEAKER_00]: He looked him squarely and said, I'm glad you asked. [SPEAKER_00]: You're too fat. [SPEAKER_00]: He said, you're winded when you go up and down the court. [SPEAKER_00]: You still have the same habits from college. [SPEAKER_00]: You brought up the NBA. [SPEAKER_00]: You're not going to last long if you don't get in shape. [SPEAKER_00]: You're not gonna last long if you don't get it together. [SPEAKER_00]: So he said, well, man, would you help me out? [SPEAKER_00]: This is Charles Barkley asking the veteran modes of Malone, which would you help me out? [SPEAKER_00]: So modes of Malone, Ted, of course, I'll help you out. [SPEAKER_00]: I want to see you succeed. [SPEAKER_00]: I want you to have a long career. [SPEAKER_00]: I want you to be able to live out your dream of playing this sport on a high level. [SPEAKER_00]: So come up to my pinhouse floor, to my pinhouse. [SPEAKER_00]: I said, say, they said they live in the same building, but he lived in the lower floors in the regular spot. [SPEAKER_00]: And Moses lived at the top in the pinhouse. [SPEAKER_00]: He said, come up. [SPEAKER_00]: and I'll give you some tips. [SPEAKER_00]: So he said he would go to him and he would give them certain tips and said, okay, we're gonna do these things, the X, Y, and Z and lose five pounds. [SPEAKER_00]: He come back to lost five pounds, okay, let's lose five more. [SPEAKER_00]: He said, oh man, okay, cool, man, that five pounds was easy. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's lose five more. [SPEAKER_00]: And he kept giving him these goals [SPEAKER_00]: in five pound increments. [SPEAKER_00]: And check this out and before long, he turned around and guess what? [SPEAKER_00]: He lost fifty pounds. [SPEAKER_00]: He said, man, as I think about it, that was a genius [SPEAKER_00]: Concept the goal was always from Moses the goal was always to get me to lose fifty pounds But he knew if he told me fifty pounds from the jump I would think that was insurmountable. [SPEAKER_00]: I would think that number was too high I would think to myself I can't lose no fifty pounds So we said he broke it down into five pound increments and said just got lose five pounds. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh That sounds simple enough [SPEAKER_00]: and kept going back and losing another five pounds until he reached fifty pounds. [SPEAKER_00]: I think for some of us, for this mid-year reset, in order for us to reach our goals by December thirty-one, using the analogy of Charles Barclay, you should break your goals down into five-pound increments. [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever that looks for you, right? [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever that looks like for your scenario. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that you should, of course, we got our long term goal. [SPEAKER_00]: We got our big one year goal. [SPEAKER_00]: We got our big six month goal. [SPEAKER_00]: But can you break it down week by week? [SPEAKER_00]: Can you break it down and say, you know what, I'm gonna take this chunk of this goal and accomplish it over the next two weeks. [SPEAKER_00]: This chunk of the goal, I'm gonna, I'm gonna accomplish it over the course of the next month and then chop away at your goal. [SPEAKER_00]: And instead of, please don't throw away the goal. [SPEAKER_00]: Some of you right now, much like Charles Brockley, much like Eugene Hamilton, you've got these goals that you want to get in shape this year. [SPEAKER_00]: And you probably listen, I just saw, I just saw like a little meme or it wasn't a meme, what you call it? [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think it was a meme. [SPEAKER_00]: I somebody had somebody going to the gym saying, oh, here we go again. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm about to go lose these, fifteen pounds. [SPEAKER_00]: I've been gaining and losing all here. [SPEAKER_00]: In other words, right, you like me, you've lost fifteen pounds and then you try to celebrate and you could stop the celebration before long. [SPEAKER_00]: You gained the fifteen pounds back. [SPEAKER_00]: You went back again and you tried to lose, you lost the fifteen pounds again. [SPEAKER_00]: And so he says, man, all of us are in this cycle. [SPEAKER_00]: Because it's difficult for us. [SPEAKER_00]: In many cases, if we don't break our goals down into bite-sized chunks, it's difficult for us. [SPEAKER_00]: to look at the big picture and think to ourselves, I can accomplish that. [SPEAKER_00]: It's unfortunate, the average person living in this world, we don't see ourselves as goal-getters. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the average person here to go to talk to somebody that's in your circle. [SPEAKER_00]: Talk to somebody that's close to you. [SPEAKER_00]: The average human being, we don't see ourselves above where we are. [SPEAKER_00]: And so we set goals, just because we don't want to look like we don't set goals. [SPEAKER_00]: But here's the set, reality. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I push people all the time. [SPEAKER_00]: So I know that I'm telling the truth. [SPEAKER_00]: You never saw yourself accomplishing that goal in the first place. [SPEAKER_00]: So for some people, it's easier throw it away because they just went through the vision board party to get free drinks. [SPEAKER_00]: They went to the vision board party because it was invoke. [SPEAKER_00]: They went through the vision board party just because they had nothing else to do. [SPEAKER_00]: They went through the activity. [SPEAKER_00]: But did not bring their mind under subjection like scripture talk about Paul talked about that thing, right? [SPEAKER_00]: They didn't bring their body in their mind under subjection. [SPEAKER_00]: And so if they weren't, they had no intention of no longer drinking soldiers this year. [SPEAKER_00]: But you different. [SPEAKER_00]: I want you to know that you stand out above the rest. [SPEAKER_00]: I want you to know that whatever you put your mind to do, you can actually accomplish it. [SPEAKER_00]: You just maybe, this is my offering to you on this episode, maybe you should consider because for the last six months, we haven't been able to take enough chunks out of the large goal to make any progress. [SPEAKER_00]: So maybe we should break it down. [SPEAKER_00]: I keep going back to that analogy because it was a powerful analogy, a powerful story, I should say, lose five pounds. [SPEAKER_00]: This is another five pounds. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay, another five pounds. [SPEAKER_00]: Right, so if my goal is to finish my college degree and I've got twelve credits left with a full time job, three kids, a spouse and other obligations, [SPEAKER_00]: I can't go and take twelve credits at one time. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to give up. [SPEAKER_00]: The average person, you don't have enough time, right? [SPEAKER_00]: You have to take that thing one class at a time. [SPEAKER_00]: You wish, we actually pray. [SPEAKER_00]: We wish that we had the time to just say, you know what, let me knock it out, but life, life be life in. [SPEAKER_00]: So I've got three classes to take. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to take all through the same time. [SPEAKER_00]: Let me break it down into bite sizes. [SPEAKER_00]: I can handle. [SPEAKER_00]: Let me take one at a time. [SPEAKER_00]: I want to become an entrepreneur, okay, cool. [SPEAKER_00]: And some people, they throw on the top because they quit their job before they've solidified or put together something that will help them pay their bills from month to month. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, okay, now you gotta go back and don't have enough wiggle room now on your schedule because you own probation again because you got a new job because you couldn't. [SPEAKER_00]: We've got to be wise. [SPEAKER_00]: We've got to find it in ourselves to do three things during this mid-year reset. [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe two things. [SPEAKER_00]: And then we'll shut it down for this episode. [SPEAKER_00]: First thing, I want you to reflect. [SPEAKER_00]: In fact, American psychological association shows that taking time to reflect on your goals can enhance motivation and self-regulation. [SPEAKER_00]: That same research goes on to say regular reflection allows you to assess what's working and what's not. [SPEAKER_00]: Go back to last episode, please. [SPEAKER_00]: It is advantageous for us to have a give up line. [SPEAKER_00]: Say, hey, this is not working. [SPEAKER_00]: This is working. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm splitting times, splitting energy, trying to work on what's not working and what is working. [SPEAKER_00]: Let me put the energy for what's not working over here and accelerate what's working. [SPEAKER_00]: Some of us get married to something that we got from a guru and a guru's are guru's for a reason. [SPEAKER_00]: But by and large, life is not a one size fit all. [SPEAKER_00]: I got to figure out what works for me, what from their experience actually works for me and what from their experience do not does not work for me. [SPEAKER_00]: Reflection of force in that opportunity. [SPEAKER_00]: To sit down, to evaluate, check my heart, check my motives, figure out what's going well, what's not going well. [SPEAKER_00]: And then tell myself, what am I going to do about it? [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, so this, what has made your recent, just use me. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm encouraging, I'm encouraging you number one to take time to reflect. [SPEAKER_00]: Reflecting your goals. [SPEAKER_00]: Reflect on why you set those goals. [SPEAKER_00]: Reflect on your path toward those goals. [SPEAKER_00]: Reflect on who's on your team or who's in your corner, who's in your support system to help you get to those goals. [SPEAKER_00]: And like I've broken record, I'll repeat again. [SPEAKER_00]: Reflect on what is working and what's not working. [SPEAKER_00]: And then last, I want you to reclaim your goals. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Individuals who write down their goals and share those same goals with other people. [SPEAKER_00]: My reclaiming your goals are thirty three percent more likely to achieve them. [SPEAKER_00]: It's the way that I'm encouraged you to reclaim your goals. [SPEAKER_00]: And some of us like to keep our goals and I get it to ourselves because if I don't reach him, nobody knows what me. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: If I don't tell anybody about me losing weight, if I don't lose weight, I ain't telling anybody. [SPEAKER_00]: If I don't tell anybody about my goal of finishing school, if I don't finish school, nobody knew about it. [SPEAKER_00]: If I don't tell anybody, my goal is about getting out of debt, right? [SPEAKER_00]: If they can't hold me accountable, I didn't tell them. [SPEAKER_00]: So if I don't reach it, right? [SPEAKER_00]: If I don't do it, nobody knows. [SPEAKER_00]: Recame your goals. [SPEAKER_00]: And for the second half of the year, I'm going to challenge you to get outside of your comfort zone and share those goals within the accountability partner. [SPEAKER_00]: Share those goals with somebody who will check you. [SPEAKER_00]: And we'll ask you critical questions like, what are you doing about this goal? [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing about that goal? [SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing in this area? [SPEAKER_00]: I can't guarantee you that she'll accomplish all your goals, but I can encourage you this way. [SPEAKER_00]: Your game momentum. [SPEAKER_00]: You learn something you never knew before. [SPEAKER_00]: And most importantly, you'll get closer to your goal. [SPEAKER_00]: So do that. [SPEAKER_00]: Not for me. [SPEAKER_00]: Not for my team. [SPEAKER_00]: Do that for you. [SPEAKER_00]: and watch you rise to the occasion. [SPEAKER_00]: Listen, I hope something on this episode. [SPEAKER_00]: Um, eighty Jew and helped you on your journey of going, growing and glowing. [SPEAKER_00]: Don't forget to go to my website, Eugene J. Hamilton.org. [SPEAKER_00]: Man, there are kids right now that have ordered my book this time. [SPEAKER_00]: In fact, I did my first book reading. [SPEAKER_00]: I want to report that to you. [SPEAKER_00]: Amazing. [SPEAKER_00]: My son and I went to this kid into a playground and we had an awesome time. [SPEAKER_00]: I think we sold about twenty something books to kids. [SPEAKER_00]: It was an awesome time. [SPEAKER_00]: Please don't let your kid miss out on my book, Go, Grow, Below. [SPEAKER_00]: It's available right now at ujjhounton.org or g. Thank you again for tuning in today. [SPEAKER_00]: Don't forget to share, like and subscribe, and I'll see you next week. [SPEAKER_00]: Take care. [SPEAKER_00]: be.
