We are honored a veteran of the Leaf Report, a veteran at WKYT Sports, mister Lee K. Howard in the house. What up, Lee K? Hey, It's good to be here. In fact, I haven't been back over to the Chaos bar. Since you guys redid it and here look awesome. Thank you great. We tried to you do all the decorating and Drew and I did Drew and I did the little remodels work and all the pictures kind of put up some different things and stuff. It's got from New Jerseys. Sou see all the things. So Shannon, you may remember this. Lee K is no stranger to KSR either. He famously was co hosting KSR one morning with Dave buzz Baker. Buzz was gonna be the lead. Lee K was the co host. Dave buzz Baker did not show up on time, right, that's when and Shannon yelled at me. I remember this, I yelled at you. Oh yeah, well it's not like he no, no, So this was like, this was like a decade plus ago. This is before KSR got so big that like Jay Billis and Howard Stern were doing the summer shows and they were asking just anybody to do the summer show, as Matt was, and he had asked buzz Baker to anchor a summer show or host the summer show. And the night before Buzz text me and he said, hey, I'm hosting in case Artemar, can you jump in with me? And I was like, sure, why not? So I drive over to the Nicholasville iHeart Studios, the old building, the old building, and I'm there at like nine forty because I'm just I want to be prepared, right, And nine to fifty comes along. No, Buzz, I'm sitting there. Nine to fifty five comes along. And if you know Buzz Ryan, you know he's notoriously late to everything, always come in at the last minute, last minute, but he usually makes it. Yeah, he'll He'll be putting his microphone on in the studio at wkyit like seconds before he talks. So I'm not too worried. But then it gets to like almost ten o'clock and I'm thinking, is Buzz gonna be here? So I start texting him, Hey, man, are you coming? And he text me back, yeah, I'm in the parking lot, be right in. I'm like, okay, sounds good, We're good. It gets to like a minute or two after ten o'clock. Finally here comes Buzz walking into the studios. He's carrying a stack of papers. He sets them down on the table, goes you gotta go to the restroom. I'll be right back, and I'm like, Okay, wait, what so because ten hours ago, I didn't even know it was gonna be on the show. I hadn't prepared. It was a summer show, so there's not an obvious topic. We hadn't talked one second about what we were going to discuss. So he leaves the room. Well, I have my headset sitting on the table in front of me, so I can still kind of hear it, And all of a sudden, I start hearing were Wolves of London dunk dum dunk dum dun. And it's like three times into it, and I did one of the dumbest things I've ever done in my broadcasting career, media career. I pick up my headset and I've spoken to the microphone and I go, Shannon, Shannon, are we on? I don't know that? Like, was Shanny just practicing.

Speaker 4: She had it goes, you could be more irritated. She Hadah goes, yeah, we're on KSR, We're live, We're live, You're on. Come on, you do you know what you're doing? Yeah? And I'm thinking, I'm thinking, I don't know the phone number. I don't know a sponsor, and so I just babble probably for like ten seconds, it feels like ten minutes. And then finally here comes Buz walking into the studio. He could not be bothered. He was not in a hurry, just walks over, picks up his things. All right, where are we at? You know? So anyway, that was I'm surprised you guys had me back after that performance. Well it has been ten years or so, so we had to, you know, put you on the suspension list. I guess for a ten year. It wasn't your fault though it wasn't, but it felt like my fault it was. It was bad. So I got here early today. But I will tell you, Ryan, if you weren't in this building when I walked in, I was gonna just hang out in the parking lot because I did not need Shannon yelling at me for starting to show terribly.

Yeah, and in fact I've changed my opinions greatly on that subject. But yeah, it's it's been a while, but it's good to be good to be back. Good to have you back, Lee K. Howard from to p KYT those in the lection area. No, you've been at ky no how many years? Fourteen? Oh my goodness, have you really? Yeah? Wow, it's you started KYT by the time I started KSR. I guess about the same time. Yeah. In fact, I remember moving to Lexington and you guys were just getting kind of big. Huh. You could had been around, but like KSR was really becoming a thing. And it's crazy to see like the trajectory of this show and how it's not only statewide but almost like nationally know in a lot of ways. So yeah, that's it's been a while. Speaker 4: Yeah? I can get get my owner's discount here at Ksbar and girl. So okay, this is what I want to start the show with. Yesterday we had the field of sixty eight guys in here. Yep. Jeff Goodman, Rob Douster, Jack Pilgrim helped me co ho. They were great, but we only had them for like thirty minutes because they had to leave go to UK practice. We had to do their own UK interviews, do their own podcast, and watch UK practice after UK practice. The plan was they were gonna come out of the Craft Center, meet Jack Pilgrim and Steven Peak and do sources say podcasts for them. Right before the podcast started, they were going to call on Uber. So while the Uber was en route to pick them up at the Craft Center, they were going to stand out there with Jack and Steven and report on what they saw. Practice for the podcast. Plan was perfect, Practice went a little long. Jack Pilgrim said he got a text from Rob Doster said, hey, man, practice going along. We're not gonna have time. We have to get to the airport. Our flights at like seven o'clock and right now it was already like five thirty something like that. So Jack called an audible decides I'll take them to the airport. This is where the story gets beautiful, Shannon. They put Rob Doster and f come in in the back seat. Steven Peak was in the passenger seat with his camera and microphone. Jack was driving, and they did the podcast in the car while driving the two guys to the airport. I mean, if that is so chsr right there, it's the best lee k. It's the best reporter interview since Color chased down Billy Glespie over at the Memorial Cosseum. Yeah, that one's gonna be hard to talk, but I do you know, first of all, Jack does an awesome job. They do a great job with that source of say podcast, and I watched the entire thing last night. I did too, and I'll be honest, had they just been standing outside of the Craft Center, I don't know that I would have watched the whole thing a good point, and first of all, it wouldn't have gone that long. So they almost found a way to have a captive interview a captive audience. It's not like they were gonna just quit quit talking. They were in the backseat of the car. You had literally had a destination to get to and into the interview. So no, I thought it was I thought it was awesome. And my only concern Shannon was I don't know if you saw trying to put Dostar in Goodman's luggage in the back of that car. The car it was, but well, there's an outtake that Jack sent me. As they first pulled away from the Craft Center, Jack almost hit somebody, almost killed him, pulled right in front of somebody.

One is just the hilariousness of it happening in the backseat of this of Jack's car while Jackson driving. Jack's asking the questions while he's driving. But the second reason is there's a lot of really good info in there about this basketball team. I guess the big newsy thing was Otega Oway has suffered the Joe Burrow injury and has turf toe. That's why he's been walking around in a boot. And apparently he's gonna have another couple of weeks in the boot. And what the Bengals love Joe Burrow now that the Cats lose, will take it for a short time with turf toe. Listen, I didn't know turf toe was such a big deal. Obviously my athletic career didn't span past high school. But like that seems to be a big deal. Although the good thing is it seems like Otega is not near as you know. Bad I guess is Joe Burrows. It's going to keep him out for a couple of months. But no, that was great, And you can tell that Goodman and Dowsta have a great relationship with Pope absolutely, and so they're able to one get into a practice like none of the rest of us local media can and get all this information. And I thought it was very informative though. O Tega thing was informative, kind of like some of their insights on you know, which player was doing wide and who seems to be kind of ahead of the others. I thought, if you get a chance, I mean, a lot of that stuff was really good. It was. They were also really high on Jalen Low, which, yeah, it was good. So we're gonna break down it, but just better than they said.

So, all right, we talked about the field of sixty eight guys, Jeff Goodman and Rob Doster went to practice yesterday, got to talk to coach Pope and a lot of the players. I'm just gonna go down some stuff that they talked about in the Crazy podcast from the back seat of Jack Pilgrim's car. Yeah, and you guys, both of you want to comment on it him. The one thing I think was Jeff Goodman who said, make no mistake about it, this is Jalen Lowe's team. He is the leader. It's his team. They go as he goes. Yeah, and I think that's what everybody wanted to hear, because Pope's system historically, if he's got a good point guard to run it, it can go. And we saw when la Mott Butler last year was healthy how good this team could be run. And then of course they got into trouble with injuries at that point guard position. But the way that Jalen can really effectively run this Pope system, I think people are going to love because last year at Pitt he had to be a guy who shot all the shots, the good shots, the bad shots, whatever. He can work on being a distributor this year. And we got to interview him once in the summer and it was great hearing from him because that's what he wants to do. Like he seems like one of those past first point guards. He wants to distribute the ball, and he's on a team right now that he's going to have so many options, so many guys he can get the ball to. Speaker 2: He's the guy that's going to, you know, make the offense go, and I think that a lot of the offense is gonna go through he and Otega away as long as we can get away healthy. But to the point on Oway with that turf toe, he said that if it were like a game today or tomorrow, he would be able to play, So we don't have to worry about it. I don't think about Oway's indect very much. But but yeah, I think a lot of that offense is going to go through those two guys.

Speaker 4: I agree. And can you imagine when you get those two on the floor together. Yes, Like I mean that that is a one to two punch that any team in America would take with with Jalen and Otega, we're talking about Jaalen and Otega. Both Rob and Jeff both emphasize several times that there are seven perimeter players that not just can't play, are gonna play seven different guys that may be as deep a backcourt as we've ever had here. Well, there was a previous coach at the school that didn't play seven players. That's a good point, complete, I mean, at all positions, and so you've got you've got the ability to put seven guys in. I think Jalen and Otaga are gonna eat up most of those minutes. But you're right, I mean, you've got to find a way to get Aberdeen into the game. I mean, he was on a national championship team. Lot h Yuere. I think Jasper Johnson is another guy who you know he's gonna play. He's got this upside that maybe some of these other guys don't have. But he doesn't have the experience. I mean, there's gonna be a lot of guys who come in thinking that they've got a lot of minutes. They've got to share minutes. But I think most of these guys understand that.

Speaker 2: Shannon, Yeah, I mean, Pope believes that he is deep, and I mean super deep. One through thirteen. He mentioned you were talking about the seven perimeter players. He's got seven guys, he says in practice this is hard to believe, but he says, they're shooting seventy percent from three. Yeah, including Yeleovich, who is shooting seventy seven percent this past week in practice from three. If I don't think that's going to translate to seventy percent in gameplay. If so, then we've got an NBA team on our hands and we're gonna win the National Championship if we've got guys that can shoot that well in the game. But just to hear that even in practice, I think is amazing. So I think that this is going to be maybe the best three point shooting team we've ever had. He's that he wants to break that record of most three pointers made in a single season. If he's got guys that can shoot that, well, I think we're we're on our way to seeing that happen this season.

SEASON i guess maybe that's when he finally was. Healthy you, know he's got the slow start because he was on his mission and kind of you, know getting the rush. Off but maybe he you, know was injured and the wisalls didn't know. It once he got, healthy then we saw the results of what he can. Be drew has already gone on records and he expects that's the big breakout, player the guy that makes the big jump this. Year where do you See Colin chandler fitting into? What? Uh after what you heard? Yesterday, yeah it makes sense what they, said because you could see kind of the trajectory Of colin throughout the, year and it felt like the last month month and a half he got really, good you, know and a lot of that we we all kind of attributed to, well he hasn't played basketball in a year or, two, yeah you, know and so like he had to get his legs under.
