Speaker 5: I mean, it is such an out of touch, off base thing to say. Fans fan is short for fanatic. You want to go and see the team that you care about, go and win the game that you're at, Like, isn't an event. Absolutely, do you make memories whether or not the team wins the game you go to. If you save up to go to a game as a family, absolutely you make tons of memories. But ultimately, at the end of the year, you want to have your Angels Mike Trout jersey to wear in the playoffs. You want to see your team year in and year out in the playoffs. So winning is winning is important. And it just feels like it's such an out of touch comment that even if he never did the survey and he just like asked people in his circle, whatever his circle is, they're just appeasing him, Like if he got actually got this information from somebody else, they're just appeasing him and like, hey, it's okay. It's really tough until you get a salary cap, you know. He just that's what he leans on. Is just this all Hi? You know, we don't want to change the infrastructure. We don't want to do the things that it takes to win. And if you never do that, you're never gonna win.

Wins don't matter, But in all seriousness, we should see that. I think that needs to be shared to put this thing to bed, so that at least, I guess the blame can be put on the survey contact. Otherwise it's not happening. Why because just like you can't share the books, you can't share the survey. This is so embarrassing and I don't think it'll ever go away. I just think that this is one of those out of touch things that already said he probably wishes he could take it back, and I'm sure certain people in Major League Baseball didn't love the fact that he came out right before a collective bargaining agreement said winning is not the most important thing when you're about to go to war with the players.

Speaker 2: They call themselves the Los Angeles Angels now, right, So that's the number two market in the country, and they have consistently now been spending below what's called a big market, right, So they haven't gone over their de facto salary cap, right, which is the luxury tax for them. They have not gone over that since two thousand and three, which was the first season that Mareno in the team. That was a really long time ago, and that was a year after they won the World Series title. Since then, they have treated the luxury tax number like a salary cap and always kept themselves below that. So if you're a fan, say of the Angels, and you're complaining about the current state of the game, there's nothing to complain about. And Angels fans know this, Kratz. They're complaining about one person. They know that they can be a behemoth, but they can under these circumstances, not when it's not in the top five. And this place to the quote that I shared on our show many years ago when we first started. I shared this story pretty early on. I said, and it was a fact behind the scenes. I don't know how it is this second, but for a long time he would not give money to pitching because they don't play every day, so the fans don't get to see that show every day.

They spend a lot on their big league salaries, but they invest in their infrastructure. I know an ex GM who was in the last few years, was offered a president of Baseball operations job there and he said, okay, I have to lay out what I feel like it would take for this organization. And he had the opportunity to go under the hood look at what was going on in the organization. I'm sure he wasn't the only one, and he said, look, you have to invest in the people in your organization. You have a lot invested different ways in the big league, big league salaries, but he said, the infrastructure. You have to pay your minor league coaches more so that they can have a positive life, so they can live on the money that they're given. You have to add more coaches, you have to add amenities for the players, because the game is about the players. Already came back to him and he said, I love what you do. I understand, like this is what would make us better, but I'm out, We're not going to do that. That's not how we're going to invest our money. So it's not for me. Unfortunately for Angels fans, this is just going to continue to happen. And for him to say this that winning isn't the most important thing is slightly against the CBA, Like, there has to be a competitive There has to be a competitive aspect to a baseball team when you're part of a monopolistic league, because if you're not, then you're taking advantage of fans, not taking advantage of the game, You're taking advantage of fans coming to the ballpark and not putting the most competitive product out on the field day in and day out.

I don't know about Skins, but School's only going to pitch the one game. I don't know when Skeens is pitching now. I thought it would be later in the tournament when it was like loop winner go home games, so just to see him pitches. But listen, at the end of the day, you guys don't like this. These are exhibitions and they are still ramping up for the season with the Detroit Tigers. So schoobl wants to be there. It's his last year before free agency. He wants to win with the Tigers. The Tigers have made moves to help him win this year. The end of the day, he has to be there for the Tigers. I applaud him for doing the one game, and I really applaud you, Terrek for picking the game. One of the games that I get to call, so I get to see you, talk about you for the two or three you're out there and ch'er on the USA secretly, of course.
