<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, Welcome to Games Mornings with Me Jeff Greb,
<v Speaker 1>your host from giant bomb dot com. Thank you for
<v Speaker 1>tuning in. In this episode, we're gonna be talking about
<v Speaker 1>where the core gamers are and why YouTube could open
<v Speaker 1>up the switch to to piracy. It's gonna be a
<v Speaker 1>good one because we have lex Ludi on the show. Lexi,
<v Speaker 1>how are you doing?
<v Speaker 2>If you really want to engage your core gamer muscles,
<v Speaker 2>get a standing desk.
<v Speaker 1>Oh, yeah, that's that's the thing I or you know,
<v Speaker 1>sit on one of those those medicine ball things. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>just do uh, just do a Nike Jake every day.
<v Speaker 1>That's the way to live. Uh, Lexi, how are you?
<v Speaker 1>How are you hanging in there? What are you doing?
<v Speaker 1>What are you playing these days?
<v Speaker 2>I'm not doing to I'm super fucking busy. I'm I
<v Speaker 2>just put up my SAOs review that went live literally
<v Speaker 2>earlier today on Game of Guides, and I had to
<v Speaker 2>redo an interview this afternoon because I lost the original
<v Speaker 2>interview that I did in person at an event and
<v Speaker 2>I don't want to talk about, but redoing the interview
<v Speaker 2>went grand. I'm viewing another game right now that I'm
<v Speaker 2>playing at the moment, and I should be done soon
<v Speaker 2>and then I'm viewing another another game that's coming out
<v Speaker 2>a bit after that, and so yeah, like games are
<v Speaker 2>coming out. It's some of game fest as fucking soon.
<v Speaker 2>Like it's it's busy, man, it's you have to organize
<v Speaker 2>a couch.
<v Speaker 3>You know that, right?
<v Speaker 2>Has anyone told you that?
<v Speaker 3>What's what's a couch? I don't know. I don't I've
<v Speaker 3>never heard of such a thing.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I'm getting a work on it, but less cool.
<v Speaker 1>Oh okay, the thing the vice president does, right, Okay,
<v Speaker 1>I got it.
<v Speaker 3>Now.
<v Speaker 1>I am in the in the throes of kind of beginning,
<v Speaker 1>not beginning that process. It's begun, uh Like I'm in
<v Speaker 1>I'm reaching out to people right now, and it's a
<v Speaker 1>lot of people could do one night and the other
<v Speaker 1>night's little bit busier. So it's going to be a
<v Speaker 1>little bit heckt getting that put together. But we'll figure
<v Speaker 1>it out. Can't rely on faith.
<v Speaker 2>The first time ever, for the first time I ever,
<v Speaker 2>stop menu is technically sending someone someone is attending under
<v Speaker 2>the start menu manner, which is nice. So I might
<v Speaker 2>give you their contact info and they can meet up
<v Speaker 2>with some people that they're good folks.
<v Speaker 3>What did you think of Sorrows.
<v Speaker 2>I I like Caros. I think Cerroh's is really really
<v Speaker 2>good in a lot of places. I was a bit
<v Speaker 2>disappointed by Cerah's, and I think it's different reasons, different
<v Speaker 2>reasons to you, which is, I really like Returnal, and
<v Speaker 2>I think that the story stuff that Returnal does is
<v Speaker 2>so fucking awesome, especially that twist at what you think
<v Speaker 2>is the final boss in Returnal and the reveal, and
<v Speaker 2>the way that that plays into the roguelike genre and
<v Speaker 2>how that like defies expectations, and then how the game
<v Speaker 2>evolves from that point on. It's so interesting to think about.
<v Speaker 2>I'm mull around Returnal in your brain and soares. They
<v Speaker 2>just can't really play the same tricks again, which is fine,
<v Speaker 2>they don't try two for the most part, but as
<v Speaker 2>a result, it is just kind of a less interesting story.
<v Speaker 2>And that, paired with the fact that I think that
<v Speaker 2>the story of like the Yellow King and the Eternal
<v Speaker 2>Suffering and Ecstasy and all of this different kind of stuff,
<v Speaker 2>it doesn't really match the gameplay in the same way
<v Speaker 2>that Eternals like the game. The gameplay is too easy
<v Speaker 2>for the story of like Eternal Suffering, because most bosses
<v Speaker 2>I beat in one are two attempts like maximum three
<v Speaker 2>or five, but like it wasn't it's not a game.
<v Speaker 2>It's a game that I said in my review, like
<v Speaker 2>it's the fastest thirty hours over the course of a
<v Speaker 2>weekend have ever passed for me. Where it is extremely maush,
<v Speaker 2>it's very easy just to you always feel like you're
<v Speaker 2>getting progress, You always feel like you're getting further than
<v Speaker 2>you did the last time, And in some ways that
<v Speaker 2>kind of like makes the story less impactful because it
<v Speaker 2>doesn't feel like this character is going through that much
<v Speaker 2>of a ordeal. Yeah, he's yeah, and then it goes
<v Speaker 2>to a cut scene and he's like, I've been here
<v Speaker 2>for a million years. I was like, I've been here
<v Speaker 2>for a little while.
<v Speaker 3>This is fine exactly. Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, like I like, I think there will be
<v Speaker 2>a lot of people who will like this game way
<v Speaker 2>more than Returnal, especially because I think a lot of
<v Speaker 2>people will get to the cooler late game stuff than
<v Speaker 2>they did in Maternal, but also as someone who really
<v Speaker 2>liked the difficulty and getting to that late game stuff
<v Speaker 2>in Returnal because it was so difficult, I was a
<v Speaker 2>little bit left down, let down, And so yeah, I
<v Speaker 2>think like the performances are good. That it runs really
<v Speaker 2>well even on the ACEPS five, which is impressive considering
<v Speaker 2>how much they are doing with like Unreal engine and
<v Speaker 2>the fact that it is an Unreal engine running out
<v Speaker 2>like a locked sixty. And yeah, I think that that
<v Speaker 2>game is really really good, but maybe not for me
<v Speaker 2>in a lot of ways, and it's probably unfair to
<v Speaker 2>compare it to one of my favorite games of this generation.
<v Speaker 2>But also they made one of my favorite games of
<v Speaker 2>this generation, and this is an iteration on that formula.
<v Speaker 2>So of course I'm going.
<v Speaker 1>To yep exactly, I'm gonna reset the server real quick.
<v Speaker 1>So I think we might be have a little bit
<v Speaker 1>of a delay issue and do that right now. Let's say,
<v Speaker 1>all right, you should be back there. Yeah, I think
<v Speaker 1>my like, like reading some of your stuff real quick
<v Speaker 1>this morning, I was like, yeah, I like, everyone's going
<v Speaker 1>to come at this game with a lot of different
<v Speaker 1>ideas what they need from it. But I think there
<v Speaker 1>is something too people want to There's a lot of
<v Speaker 1>people who want this game to be more accessible and
<v Speaker 1>want it to be easier, and those are like two
<v Speaker 1>slightly different ideas, And I mean, but I think it
<v Speaker 1>does both. It does make it more accessible and makes
<v Speaker 1>it easier. There are ways to tune it to be
<v Speaker 1>harder if you want to, but it's hard to be like,
<v Speaker 1>I'm starting this game from scratch. I know better than
<v Speaker 1>the developer what the game should be like. That's always
<v Speaker 1>a hard thing to ask of the player. But I
<v Speaker 1>just don't think they complimented that with the other side
<v Speaker 1>of like, Okay, because we made it more accessible, because
<v Speaker 1>we made it easier, here's the stuff we layered in
<v Speaker 1>to keep it more engaging, or here's what we could
<v Speaker 1>do now because we freed up the player's mind a
<v Speaker 1>little bit to worry about other stuff. Yeah, it just
<v Speaker 1>doesn't have the other half of that deal. That's all
<v Speaker 1>all right. We should get into things. We're Giant Bomb,

<v Speaker 1>timestamps on YouTube.
<v Speaker 3>Hello YouTube.
<v Speaker 1>All right, we have a lot to get into, so
<v Speaker 1>let's start the morning mess with Take two explains. GTA
<v Speaker 1>six console first strategy console is Rockstar's quote core consumer.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Chris Scullion at VGC. Take two CEO
<v Speaker 1>Straus Zelnik has explained why there are no plans to
<v Speaker 1>release a PC version of Grand Theft Auto six on
<v Speaker 1>November nineteenth, alongside the PS five and Xbox Series XNS
<v Speaker 1>versions speaking with Bloomberg. In that interview he did with
<v Speaker 1>Jason Schreier, we've been kind of picking stories out of
<v Speaker 1>all week. At the Interactive Innovation Conference in Las Vegas
<v Speaker 1>last week, Zelnick was asked about the growing importance of
<v Speaker 1>the PC market for some of Take two's series. Zelnick
<v Speaker 1>explained that when he started at Take two in two
<v Speaker 1>thousand and seven, series like NBA two K only sold
<v Speaker 1>around five percent of their total sales on PC, where nowadays,
<v Speaker 1>with regard to a big title, PC could be forty
<v Speaker 1>five to fifty percent of the sales. Zelnick was then
<v Speaker 1>asked why, if this is the case, the decision was
<v Speaker 1>made not to release Grand Theft Auto six on PC
<v Speaker 1>on day one. He replied that Rockstar's aim has always
<v Speaker 1>been to serve the core consumer with its titles before
<v Speaker 1>focusing on things like PC ports. Rockstar always starts on
<v Speaker 1>console because I think with regards to a release like that,
<v Speaker 1>you're judged by serving the core, he explained, like really
<v Speaker 1>serving the core consumer. If your core consumer isn't there,
<v Speaker 1>if they're not served first and best, you kind of
<v Speaker 1>don't hit your other consumers. Asked whether the game had
<v Speaker 1>a console exclusivity period as a result of any marketing
<v Speaker 1>deals with Sony, said that wasn't the case, stressing no,
<v Speaker 1>I mean, historically Rockstar has gone to console first. As
<v Speaker 1>Selnick says, Rockstar has historically a history of releasing its
<v Speaker 1>games on console first. Blah blah blah. There is a
<v Speaker 1>Sony marketing deal. He did touch on that, but it's
<v Speaker 1>not exclusive or something like that. This, you know, is
<v Speaker 1>you know the stuff you say, because this is the
<v Speaker 1>way rock Star's done things. But I do wonder if
<v Speaker 1>you feel like there's anything we could sort of glean
<v Speaker 1>from from this conversation about like they're thinking about Grand
<v Speaker 1>Theft Auto six, because I do feel like the world's
<v Speaker 1>changed enough since twenty thirteen and then when did or
<v Speaker 1>twenty twelve, whenever Grand Theft Auto five came out, and
<v Speaker 1>then when Red Dead.
<v Speaker 2>Redimation two, yeah, twenty thirteen, twenty fourteen for Grand Theft
<v Speaker 2>Attal five, Oclass Generations.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, and then the year following year hit PC and
<v Speaker 1>then there's something along those lines close to that, and
<v Speaker 1>then Red Dead Redemption two was console first, and then
<v Speaker 1>a year later on PC.
<v Speaker 3>I believe.
<v Speaker 1>So that's the way they've done things, but things have changed,
<v Speaker 1>so it's like, yeah, maybe maybe this time to launch
<v Speaker 1>this thing on console. When you see this, when you
<v Speaker 1>see him still saying Rockstar wants to serve their core
<v Speaker 1>user first, do you take anything extra away from that
<v Speaker 1>about what he's trying to say here.
<v Speaker 2>So I'm going to tell you a small story. A
<v Speaker 2>little while ago, I was at a video game summish,
<v Speaker 2>not the one I was at most recently. This was
<v Speaker 2>a different one. It was a more business focused one,
<v Speaker 2>and I was walking around and there was a guy
<v Speaker 2>in a hoodie and a lot of this summit was
<v Speaker 2>like it was the business of video games. And the
<v Speaker 2>guy had a bright orange hoodie and on the back,
<v Speaker 2>in big bold letters, it said maximize your monetize.
<v Speaker 3>Huh. So cool, dude, uh huh.
<v Speaker 2>And this is the answer you give when you can't
<v Speaker 2>just say, well, we're going to get people to double
<v Speaker 2>dip this way. This is the very diplomatic answer of well,
<v Speaker 2>we're serving a course. So really, we're doing you a favor.
<v Speaker 2>We're providing you the favor of allowing you the choice
<v Speaker 2>to buy it twice and then you know, convincing you
<v Speaker 2>that it's a real good use of money to buy
<v Speaker 2>the same game twice on two different platforms, which, like, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>of course, Zelnicker's media trained up to his gills, Like
<v Speaker 2>this is a question that he would have known was
<v Speaker 2>coming and would have prepared for, And this is the
<v Speaker 2>answer you give when you ask that question, But like,
<v Speaker 2>is it the truth? Kind of Like, I'm sure you
<v Speaker 2>could portray it that way. I'm sure locks are are
<v Speaker 2>much happier to not be working on three skews of
<v Speaker 2>the game all at once, especially considering how PC can
<v Speaker 2>require a lot more adjustments to get it up and
<v Speaker 2>running on however, many different systems and graphics card and
<v Speaker 2>suppliers and everything. So I'm but also we're talking about LOCKSA.
<v Speaker 2>They could hire the like people to outsource or ten
<v Speaker 2>times over and it still would make like Googoo bucks
<v Speaker 2>back on what they invested in it. So yeah, like
<v Speaker 2>this is just a very diplomatic answer for something that
<v Speaker 2>we all kind of intrinsically know the answer to. They
<v Speaker 2>are releasing this game in this way, probably because they
<v Speaker 2>want to release it multiple times, Like we are going
<v Speaker 2>to get a next gen version of this game at
<v Speaker 2>some point when the new consoles come out, and I'm
<v Speaker 2>sure they have already factored that in. And I'm sure
<v Speaker 2>if any developer is aware of the plans of the
<v Speaker 2>console makers.
<v Speaker 3>Good insight into it.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's rocks aren't take two because the console maker.
<v Speaker 2>It is in the console makers best interest to coordinate
<v Speaker 2>with them version ready to go. Yeah on system selling
<v Speaker 2>software and hardware. So like, yeah, I I it's a
<v Speaker 2>fine answer, but you know, it's what he was always
<v Speaker 2>going to say.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, And I think it's like, you know, these companies
<v Speaker 1>always reassess their strategic positions. They always reassess. It's like, hey,
<v Speaker 1>is this still a good idea. We did it before,
<v Speaker 1>let's we do it again. It's comfortable for us to
<v Speaker 1>do it again. We know it works in certain ways,
<v Speaker 1>like all of the ways you laid out. And then
<v Speaker 1>I think, if anything, there are even more reasons these
<v Speaker 1>days for them to do this, because like one, obviously
<v Speaker 1>we did get that story. I'm referenced a couple of
<v Speaker 1>times about spending on shark cards, which is the in
<v Speaker 1>game currency. I guess I've never bought a Shark card,
<v Speaker 1>so I don't really know, but my understanding is it's
<v Speaker 1>the in game currency for GTA online compared to the
<v Speaker 1>console platforms, PC doesn't even rate. Xbox One makes more
<v Speaker 1>money from Shark cards than PC does. That's Xbox One,
<v Speaker 1>not Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S, just
<v Speaker 1>Xbox One alone, let alone all the other consoles. So
<v Speaker 1>obviously it's super important for them to get that stuff
<v Speaker 1>up and running on console first if that's where the
<v Speaker 1>people are spending the money.
<v Speaker 3>But there that like that goes a.
<v Speaker 1>Step further as well, Like we you know, we try
<v Speaker 1>to work backward from why don't the piece gamers spend
<v Speaker 1>as much money on Shark cards? And I think it's
<v Speaker 1>I think it's two things. Primarily, one is the thing
<v Speaker 1>did launch on consoles first, So the people who are
<v Speaker 1>most horny to spend money on a gt online the
<v Speaker 1>sort of thing they hopped on the console, and that
<v Speaker 1>that's just that's their ecosystem now, and they've already bought in.
<v Speaker 1>They're not going to shift things over to PC when
<v Speaker 1>that thing launches. They already began their their relationship with
<v Speaker 1>the game on a console, and then the other side
<v Speaker 1>of it is the PC is maudible and has the
<v Speaker 1>role playing servers and all this other stuff, And I think,
<v Speaker 1>you know, we we know that Rockstar has acquired the
<v Speaker 1>role playing like community. Basically they basically just like slurped
<v Speaker 1>that all up, did the same thing with the UGC stuff.
<v Speaker 3>So yes, thank you very much.
<v Speaker 1>So I think that like they are looking at this
<v Speaker 1>as an opportunity to be like, we can we can
<v Speaker 1>define what role plane servers look like. We could define
<v Speaker 1>what UGC looks like without having to worry about the
<v Speaker 1>PC community coming in with It's like, we don't give
<v Speaker 1>a shit about what the publisher one's attitude. We bought
<v Speaker 1>the game. Now it's ours, which I love. That's the
<v Speaker 1>way it should be. But the publishers like, hey, we
<v Speaker 1>can put a flag in the ground and say this
<v Speaker 1>is what it's going to be like on Grand Theft
<v Speaker 1>Auto six and Grand Theft Auto Online in the future.
<v Speaker 1>Get used to it on console, and once we get
<v Speaker 1>enough people in that ecosystem, it'll have critical mass and
<v Speaker 1>it will be able to kind of stand alongside whatever
<v Speaker 1>happens on the PC that might distract the kind of
<v Speaker 1>player that we're trying to capture money from. So I
<v Speaker 1>think they have all of these reasons to do it
<v Speaker 1>this way, right.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>The thing I'm curious about is if there will be
<v Speaker 2>a kind of open source fragmentation of that scene of
<v Speaker 2>people who are like, no, we want to continue to
<v Speaker 2>have our own servers. The definitely want to be able
<v Speaker 2>to do our own weird shit on those servers. That's
<v Speaker 2>going to be kind of present, yes, yeah, rather than
<v Speaker 2>whatever locks I have planned for there, they'll probably have
<v Speaker 2>a role playing type mode online. But yeah, I'm super
<v Speaker 2>curious to see how they present that to console players,
<v Speaker 2>how they incentivize it in a more traditional game like sense,
<v Speaker 2>because you can kind of do it on PC by
<v Speaker 2>just being like, well, this guy's the moderator and if
<v Speaker 2>you're a fucking asshole, he's going to ban you. And
<v Speaker 2>consoles you don't really have active moderators in a server
<v Speaker 2>at all the time, all times, And so I'm.
<v Speaker 1>Got to be part of like what they've solved here,
<v Speaker 1>right by like, yeah, embedding themselves in with the people
<v Speaker 1>who built all that stuff and be like just straight
<v Speaker 1>up pay them to moderate these things. It's got to
<v Speaker 1>be part of it.
<v Speaker 2>I would imagine and ultimately we should all just realize
<v Speaker 2>that we got to go back to playing just cause
<v Speaker 2>three mmo servers and trying to make all PCs crash
<v Speaker 2>like that God's.
<v Speaker 3>Flight is we got. We gotta return to it. Absolutely.
<v Speaker 1>I I don't know where I'm at with GTA six LEXI.
<v Speaker 2>I'm just like, I'm I've there's been so many news
<v Speaker 2>stories and there's going to be so many more, and
<v Speaker 2>they're so incremental at this point. Yeah, and I'm like
<v Speaker 2>almost defeated by it in a way that like it's
<v Speaker 2>really nice. I wasn't feeling this way about like the
<v Speaker 2>Microsoft ABK acquisition, because there was at least interesting stuff
<v Speaker 2>coming out of that. This I'm like, ultimately, I know
<v Speaker 2>what the end result of this is, which is there's
<v Speaker 2>a new GGA and I kind of already like, I'm
<v Speaker 2>pretty sure I know how I'm gonna feel about that game,
<v Speaker 2>which is, yeah, it's really impressive, bit too cynical, still
<v Speaker 2>really impressive, And so I'm just like, I don't know,
<v Speaker 2>it's so hard to get hyped up for the news
<v Speaker 2>cycle of it. Like if the game is great, sure,
<v Speaker 2>but the idea of being ravenous over the news of
<v Speaker 2>it when so much of it is just like, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I guess it will be whatever it will be, right,
<v Speaker 2>And pretty much everyone in games media is like, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>we're not getting access, so that we're not getting.
<v Speaker 1>We're having a conversation on the podcast yesterday, do we
<v Speaker 1>think there are any previews of this game before it
<v Speaker 1>comes out?
<v Speaker 2>Like, I will not. There will not be previews. I
<v Speaker 2>bet they have a event ash a compound of come here,
<v Speaker 2>pronkend and players, and the.
<v Speaker 1>People that get invited are like Casey Nestat or whatever
<v Speaker 1>the fuck that guy's name is nice dat that guy?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, fuck that guy, thank you.
<v Speaker 2>And it will be a lot of like his Vanishy
<v Speaker 2>Fairs review of GGA six and then talking about how
<v Speaker 2>video games have come along.
<v Speaker 1>With front page of US Yes the front page of
<v Speaker 1>USA Today also says comes a long way since pac Man.
<v Speaker 1>It'll be It'll be a lot of we have come
<v Speaker 1>a long way since pac Man. Everybody, let's hit the
<v Speaker 1>other GTA story here. Another analyst, Matt Piscadelo's ski about
<v Speaker 1>this where he's like he just wants this game to
<v Speaker 1>come out so that headlines could stop a smirching the
<v Speaker 1>good names of analysts. Uh, because or the term analysts,
<v Speaker 1>because we keep getting it over and over.
<v Speaker 2>Here is what it feels like to be a journalist.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, analyst says, asks about Grand Theft Auto, and it's
<v Speaker 1>always everyone just goes groans. Well, here's the latest one.
<v Speaker 1>This might be the most grown worthy one yet. I
<v Speaker 1>guess I'd have to do a tier list. Rock Stars
<v Speaker 1>should raise GTA six is price for good of the
<v Speaker 1>entire industry, says Bank of America, Everyone's favorite banking institution.
<v Speaker 3>This is Tirmandy Robinson at VGC.
<v Speaker 1>Rockstar should raise the price of Grand Theft Auto six
<v Speaker 1>to eighty dollars for the benefit of the entire games industry,
<v Speaker 1>according to a Bank of America analyst. As blockbuster video
<v Speaker 1>games continue to become more expensive to make, security stock
<v Speaker 1>analyst Omar Desuki, who's gonna just get fried by gamers,
<v Speaker 1>argues that selling the much anticipated GTA sequel for the
<v Speaker 1>now standard seventy dollars price point could negatively impact other
<v Speaker 1>games looking to raise their own prices to become more sustainable.
<v Speaker 3>Lets SI. The argument here is, if.
<v Speaker 1>This game comes out at seventy, no other game could
<v Speaker 1>really consider going to eighty after that. Not really, it
<v Speaker 1>would not easily Mariotte nine except for Mario Kart nine, yes,
<v Speaker 1>and all future Mario Karts, and then you know, but.
<v Speaker 3>If it's eighty, then it's like the doors open a
<v Speaker 3>little bit obvious.
<v Speaker 1>It'll still be hard for most games to be like,
<v Speaker 1>we're as big as Grand Theft Auto six, but the
<v Speaker 1>very least it's like we're not more expensive than Grand
<v Speaker 1>Theft Auto six, which is a complete non starter. I
<v Speaker 1>agree with that assessment, but I don't know if the
<v Speaker 1>industry needs that much good done to it. I think,
<v Speaker 1>just make the games better and then maybe we could
<v Speaker 1>start talking about prices. But right now it just feels
<v Speaker 1>so stagnant from the kinds of games that would be
<v Speaker 1>of this scale that if you just want to keep
<v Speaker 1>pushing prices up just because that's a bit silly. But
<v Speaker 1>I don't know what do you make of all this?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I think in some way he's kind of like
<v Speaker 2>taking a bullet for a lot of other analysts here
<v Speaker 2>who would give the exact same perspective to anyone that
<v Speaker 2>asked them this question. And I think you said it
<v Speaker 2>a little while ago, like it is the Mario cut
<v Speaker 2>thing of Nintendo charged eighty dollars for Mario cut and
<v Speaker 2>Take two shows shuit are going to look over there
<v Speaker 2>and be like, well, if they got away with fucking that, Like,
<v Speaker 2>how the fuck can we justify Nah, like.
<v Speaker 3>We look Guard Vesters in the face.
<v Speaker 1>How do we look the Border directors in the face
<v Speaker 1>and say this game's not worth as much as Mario Kart?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, because that will be the first question if
<v Speaker 2>it's not eighty bucks and that sucks and this is
<v Speaker 2>how you know, like pure pressure inflation happens.
<v Speaker 3>But like, oh yeah, kids are doing it like trouse.
<v Speaker 2>Sorry that sentence, but yeah, like I don't know this.
<v Speaker 2>This game will probably cost eighty dollars for the base version,
<v Speaker 2>and they will have their Deluxe edition for one hundred plus,
<v Speaker 2>and they will have their physical Uber Deluxe edition for
<v Speaker 2>one hundred and fifty dollars. Like you need to remember
<v Speaker 2>that Take two are the same company that make those
<v Speaker 2>WWE games yep, So just think about how yeah, think
<v Speaker 2>about how those have been monetized recently, and like, yes,
<v Speaker 2>I know some of that is WWE, but also I
<v Speaker 2>don't think Take two are like protesting too much about
<v Speaker 2>the idea of having a one hundred and fifty dollars
<v Speaker 2>edition where you can get like five dead wrestlers unlocked early.
<v Speaker 3>Man, five dead wrestlers. It's just like cellar door.
<v Speaker 1>What an incredible phrase in the English language.
<v Speaker 3>I am wondering.
<v Speaker 1>I saw someone chat put positive this did Mario Kart
<v Speaker 1>World get away with eighty dollars?
<v Speaker 2>Like?
<v Speaker 3>Simple question? Did they get away.
<v Speaker 2>With it purely because of the packing and that it
<v Speaker 2>like it padded out sales numbers? But so what so
<v Speaker 2>did like packing in we sports that padded out it's
<v Speaker 2>sales numbers. So you know, it's it's like, you know,
<v Speaker 2>of course it's an unfair comparison, but they specifically gamed
<v Speaker 2>it to be an unfair.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, they know what they're doing so that.
<v Speaker 2>They could then point to it later and be like, well,
<v Speaker 2>this game's ald really well at that price point, so
<v Speaker 2>we have a reason to like go back to it,
<v Speaker 2>and yeah, you know, that's how these companies operate. They
<v Speaker 2>will find ways to make a higher number look lower
<v Speaker 2>for the consumer and then find a way to make
<v Speaker 2>that standard for everyone going forward.
<v Speaker 3>I yeah, I.
<v Speaker 1>Wouldn't say it was like unscathed. I think that it
<v Speaker 1>was a little bit like bumpier for them than it
<v Speaker 1>would have been obviously if it was seventy dollars.
<v Speaker 3>So did they get away with it? I think yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I think they got on the other side through clever pricing,
<v Speaker 1>like structuring and the back end, and people can say, hey,
<v Speaker 1>that's not I didn't pay eighty dollars for it, and
<v Speaker 1>it's like, okay, I mean, yeah you didn't, but you
<v Speaker 1>know you are the thing you're doing there is arguing
<v Speaker 1>for why it was better that you gave Nintendo money still,
<v Speaker 1>which is what they're still trying to accomplish. That's what
<v Speaker 1>they're trying to get you to do at the end
<v Speaker 1>of the day, and the eighty dollars figuring into that
<v Speaker 1>reasoning still serving the goal of you handing over a
<v Speaker 1>boatload of money to Nintendo. So I think it worked
<v Speaker 1>at the end of the day, even if it wasn't
<v Speaker 1>like perfect. Like obviously, coming out of that, everyone didn't
<v Speaker 1>start pricing their games at eighty dollars. Nintendo isn't pricing
<v Speaker 1>other games for the most part. I mean it go,
<v Speaker 1>they're all over the place. Nintendo does probably have a
<v Speaker 1>couple that are like that, but once you add in.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, Cheers of the Kingdom and Breath of the
<v Speaker 2>Wild are now soft reset to eighty dollars.
<v Speaker 3>I like that.
<v Speaker 2>It goes back to what we were saying of they
<v Speaker 2>find ways to creatively make it seem like a pretty
<v Speaker 2>good deal. Of well, it has to be eighty dollars
<v Speaker 2>because it's the next SHET upgrade, so we have to
<v Speaker 2>charge an extra twenty dollars food.
<v Speaker 3>Yep.
<v Speaker 1>But it's so it's like, yes, Definer thankfully points out,
<v Speaker 1>I was trying to remember this Outer World has tried
<v Speaker 1>to go eighty dollars and then it backed off before release,
<v Speaker 1>and it's okay, So the industry did not all like
<v Speaker 1>the door closed behind Mario kart World. Mario Kart World
<v Speaker 1>grabbed its hat barely and then nothing. No one else
<v Speaker 1>was really able to get through. But it definitely showed
<v Speaker 1>that there was a pathway toward it, and we're still
<v Speaker 1>on that pathway. We get there eventually. It is just
<v Speaker 1>temporarily delayed. All right, plenty of more.
<v Speaker 3>Headlines to get into, but we're going to take a break. Everybody.
<v Speaker 1>When we come back, we'll talk about some Mortal Kombat,
<v Speaker 1>we'll talk about that project fantasy game I always working on,
<v Speaker 1>and more. If you want to skip out on these
<v Speaker 1>ad messages, you could do so go to Johanbam dot
<v Speaker 1>com slash join get the atre version.
<v Speaker 3>We will be right back.
<v Speaker 1>We are back for Game mess Mornings. I'm Jeff Grubb.
<v Speaker 1>That's Lexi Luddy. Let's get on to this next story.
<v Speaker 1>Nether Realm is actively pursuing a new Mortal Kombat. This
<v Speaker 1>is from Nintendo Life. Ed Boone, Mortal Kombat co creator,
<v Speaker 1>has revealed that developer Nether Realm Studios is quote actively
<v Speaker 1>pursuing a new Mortal Kombat game. Duh speaking with Collider. Uh,
<v Speaker 1>then man, this is funny. Nintend to left put a
<v Speaker 1>K on Collider instead of the Sea. Boone is asked
<v Speaker 1>whether he could provide any updates from what Nether Realm
<v Speaker 1>is currently working on. While he's understandably cagy also with
<v Speaker 1>the K, he does confirm, also with the K, that
<v Speaker 1>a new entry in the long running fighting series is
<v Speaker 1>in the cards. Here's what he had to say. I
<v Speaker 1>would I wish I could tease something. I think if
<v Speaker 1>I teased and gave it away, I'd probably get in trouble.
<v Speaker 1>But we are actively pursuing. We're definitely pursuing a new
<v Speaker 1>Mortal Kombat game, and we're definitely doing more as well.
<v Speaker 1>So there's a lot of pots on the stove, not
<v Speaker 1>just with games though, with other forms of media and whatnot.
<v Speaker 1>So we've got a lot of great announcements coming up
<v Speaker 1>to me. That sounds like in Justice three is next,
<v Speaker 1>That's what that sounds like. And of course they're gonna
<v Speaker 1>make another Mortal Kombat game.
<v Speaker 3>What do you think, Lexi?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it would be weird if he was like, actually,
<v Speaker 2>we're done.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, that would be pretty weird. Yeah, I wish you would.
<v Speaker 3>I wish one.
<v Speaker 2>It seem it does seem like the thing that ed
<v Speaker 2>Boone might do just to fuck with people.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>No, actually we're going into copgs now.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, we just used up all the fighting ideas. Everyone's
<v Speaker 1>fought everyone, everyone's had kids. Now we're done.
<v Speaker 2>We're going to make a text based adventure next. I
<v Speaker 2>w won't even release on the ZX spectrum, so look
<v Speaker 2>out for that.
<v Speaker 3>And that's promising.
<v Speaker 2>But yeah, like this is just this is him softly
<v Speaker 2>trying to pre couch the Hey, Injustice is probably next,
<v Speaker 2>of ya know, I were still working on with We
<v Speaker 2>love Mortal Kombat. Everyone loves more We everyone were still
<v Speaker 2>working on it. We love it. Anyway, would you play
<v Speaker 2>this game that isn't Mortal Kombat Huh.
<v Speaker 3>I think that they've done it. There's been a long
<v Speaker 3>enough breaks since Injustice too, obviously to build up a
<v Speaker 3>lot of demand for that. So I think Justice three
<v Speaker 3>is going to do very well.
<v Speaker 1>And then when that, when that's done, yeah, people will
<v Speaker 1>be craving a return to Mortal Kombat man. Like you know,
<v Speaker 1>I think Mortal Kombat one's legacy among the die hard
<v Speaker 1>fans is definitely mixed at best, and so I think
<v Speaker 1>they'll be like, all right, let's get back to the
<v Speaker 1>basics which Mortal Kombat one was supposed to be. Try again,
<v Speaker 1>and let's see if they can't follow it up with
<v Speaker 1>something that's even better.
<v Speaker 2>So I do have a question for you, which is
<v Speaker 2>under James Gunn the is now going to be a
<v Speaker 2>Raged or Clayface movie, like an eighteens rated movie. Do
<v Speaker 2>you think that Netherwelm when get to push out the
<v Speaker 2>bush and do fatality fatalities in this game and actually
<v Speaker 2>actually go there with it, or do you think that
<v Speaker 2>DC is still going to be.
<v Speaker 1>Like nah, I think that that is. I think there's
<v Speaker 1>more of a chance than that than ever before. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I think that that is that continues to be one
<v Speaker 1>of the ways that DC could be like, hey, here's
<v Speaker 1>how we stand apart. Well, I would imagine that WB
<v Speaker 1>the corporation still wants to make sure that children can
<v Speaker 1>buy their Superman video game, and uh yeah, a counter.
<v Speaker 2>Point, no children play fighting games anymore?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, right?
<v Speaker 1>But I think there's there are a couple of exceptions.
<v Speaker 1>One of them Smash Brothers because it's got that Mario
<v Speaker 1>in it. And I think I think superheroes. I mean,
<v Speaker 1>guy said superheroes, and I'm like, our kids ever going
<v Speaker 1>to be playing Marvel Tocon.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know, I have no idea, but kids are
<v Speaker 3>probably not playing Marvel Tokon.
<v Speaker 1>But I still think Superman, Batman, those ones are just
<v Speaker 1>so universally popular that I think there's a chance the
<v Speaker 1>kids would want chicking on that. But I think you're
<v Speaker 1>right still technically, and I think that's why say w
<v Speaker 1>B just wouldn't buy it.
<v Speaker 2>I bet they've had the meeting of let's go in
<v Speaker 2>there and pitch them again and be like, hey, guys,
<v Speaker 2>can we please yep?
<v Speaker 1>Absolutely, Oh man, I'm glad to hear that all the
<v Speaker 1>best Street Fight Er six players are like seventeen. That's
<v Speaker 1>a relief all right, you could watch YouTube on switch too,
<v Speaker 1>but it isn't pretty. This is from Jim Norman at
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo Life. If you regularly used the YouTube app on
<v Speaker 1>Switch one, you might have been annoyed that the switch
<v Speaker 1>to has not received the same app.
<v Speaker 3>It's supposed to.
<v Speaker 1>We're gonna be a year out from release here very soon,
<v Speaker 1>like in a matter of days. Right, it's still not
<v Speaker 1>on there, but as shared on the r Nintendo switch
<v Speaker 1>to sub reddit yesterday by user jamper L, there is
<v Speaker 1>a way for you to watch YouTube on your switch
<v Speaker 1>to now, though it's inelegant and bad.
<v Speaker 3>It's yeah, that's the way to put it.
<v Speaker 2>Uh.
<v Speaker 1>Basically from the Super Animal Royale main menu, there's a
<v Speaker 1>news block in the top right corner, one segment of
<v Speaker 1>which houses a playback icon in the middle.
<v Speaker 3>Pressing this icon will open a separate browser.
<v Speaker 1>Scrolling down that news page reveals a link to what
<v Speaker 1>the game news on YouTube, or to the game's news
<v Speaker 1>on YouTube, and pressing it will you guessed it, opening
<v Speaker 1>the open the site for your perusal, and then it's
<v Speaker 1>in like three sixty p and it's really bad. Mostly
<v Speaker 1>I'm bringing this up because we got a game with
<v Speaker 1>a browser in it, and uh, that's gonna that could
<v Speaker 1>open this whole thing up for piracy, injecting in code
<v Speaker 1>and stuff like that that has happened over and over
<v Speaker 1>and over again in the piracy scene on multiple consoles
<v Speaker 1>where there are select games that have these these ways
<v Speaker 1>of getting to the Internet one way or the other
<v Speaker 1>or other exploits, uh to open up cracking your system,
<v Speaker 1>and this could very easily be I see yeah Super
<v Speaker 1>Animal right, al is the game there everybody?
<v Speaker 3>So maybe go buy it now? I don't know, before
<v Speaker 3>things change.
<v Speaker 1>Uh, is there a physical version of that that would
<v Speaker 1>be unlike that they wouldn't be able to update, because
<v Speaker 1>that's the one thing I wonder.
<v Speaker 2>Oh no, I know this game, this is this came out. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>this came out during the pandemic.
<v Speaker 3>And I remember that. Yeah, ll oyal game.
<v Speaker 2>But yeah, that's stupid. That's funny, that's really funny. I
<v Speaker 2>I kinda there's a fucked up part of me that's like,
<v Speaker 2>I should watch some YouTube videos on my on my switch.
<v Speaker 3>Dude, I love doing that on the switch one.
<v Speaker 1>They love that. I'm like, guys, there's a we have
<v Speaker 1>a million ways to watch YouTube. Yeah, they just love it.
<v Speaker 2>Turns out your phone's pretty good at it.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, it turns out I'm not sure.
<v Speaker 2>If anyone's ever talked about this before, watching things on
<v Speaker 2>your phone pretty away these days.
<v Speaker 1>We will see if Nintendo does anything about this. This
<v Speaker 1>is the kind of thing there's a reason that there
<v Speaker 1>is no browser on the switch to obviously, there's a
<v Speaker 1>reason that they are very careful about. When you do
<v Speaker 1>click on links in their privacy policy or whatever, it
<v Speaker 1>takes you to a very like lockdown version of what
<v Speaker 1>is probably a browser, but you know, no options in there,
<v Speaker 1>no way to navigate. This circumvents that and could cause
<v Speaker 1>problems for them soon.
<v Speaker 3>All right.
<v Speaker 1>Io Interactives Project Fantasy is in a quote very healthy space.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Sam Cpol at Insider Gaming. Io Interactive
<v Speaker 1>CEO is in foreigned players that Project Fantasy is still
<v Speaker 1>in development and remains financed. Project Fantasy is a new
<v Speaker 1>IP and development at io Interactive. It's an online fantasy
<v Speaker 1>RPG that features a world and a game built from
<v Speaker 1>the ground up to entertain players. To entertain players, what
<v Speaker 1>a good idea and expand for many years to come.
<v Speaker 1>There were rumors that the game might have lost its finances,
<v Speaker 1>but that doesn't seem to be the case, let's see
<v Speaker 1>here in a new interact. In a new interview with
<v Speaker 1>The Game Business, Io Interactive CEO Hakona Brock briefly discussed
<v Speaker 1>Project Fantasy status.
<v Speaker 3>Brack first stated he.
<v Speaker 1>Won't reveal the partner and will not confirm or deny
<v Speaker 1>whether Xbox is involved in the project, which was what
<v Speaker 1>was the case a long time ago.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know if that's still the case. I'mber.
<v Speaker 1>I think I might have been the first person to
<v Speaker 1>talk about this game, Lexi or one of the first,
<v Speaker 1>and it was it was one of those Xbox external
<v Speaker 1>projects like Contraband or whatever. Many of those have fallen through,
<v Speaker 1>so my expectation would be that this is not the
<v Speaker 1>case anymore for this game. However, what he could confirm
<v Speaker 1>was that Project Fantasy is in a very healthy place.
<v Speaker 1>It's still financed and it's amazing, So any players who
<v Speaker 1>are waiting for this project can rest easy. I man,
<v Speaker 1>this game was like back in the Pandemic we were
<v Speaker 1>talking about it. It was a long long time ago.
<v Speaker 1>They obviously have prioritized James Bond and then actually keeping
<v Speaker 1>Hitman pretty active, like surprisingly active after a time when
<v Speaker 1>it seem like.
<v Speaker 2>I've talked a lot about being surprised by how much
<v Speaker 2>people were in demand for them to keep hit Man active,
<v Speaker 2>Like it seems like several times they have been like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>this is a swan song to hit Man, and they've
<v Speaker 2>been like, okay, but maybe we'll stop bringing back some
<v Speaker 2>more stuff and we'll do more events and things like that.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, yeah exactly, and it's like fantastic. So their hands
<v Speaker 1>are full. But this thing has never like lost, it's touched.
<v Speaker 3>Within the studio. They're still making it.
<v Speaker 1>I guess I still feel like it's got to be
<v Speaker 1>years and years away because I don't know. If Double
<v Speaker 1>O seven first Light, I can never remember the name
<v Speaker 1>of that game. If that game does very well, why
<v Speaker 1>wouldn't they immediately follow up with getting to work on
<v Speaker 1>a sequel. I think they would, And that's going to
<v Speaker 1>keep that studio pretty busy for many more years to come.
<v Speaker 1>And then maybe it's time for another hit Man. Obviously
<v Speaker 1>that that is a company that is growing.
<v Speaker 2>But it is time for grub times for another hish Man.
<v Speaker 3>And that would be Project Fantasy raight. I I don't know.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>If this is like an online RPG from them, I
<v Speaker 1>can imagine the only reason that they would be pursuing.
<v Speaker 3>That is because they are passionate about it.
<v Speaker 1>They haven't they think they have something there, especially after
<v Speaker 1>all these years and not producing anything that we can
<v Speaker 1>all see for ourselves. They must really think that they
<v Speaker 1>have a good idea. And if that's the case, I
<v Speaker 1>want to see it because I trust IOI they make
<v Speaker 1>cool games. But what do you make of this story?
<v Speaker 2>Honestly, I would kill for if it is literally just
<v Speaker 2>hit Man in a fantasy setting and the like, disguising
<v Speaker 2>yourself as a court jester, and then by the end
<v Speaker 2>of it you're setting it up so that the walks
<v Speaker 2>in front of a dragon and the dragon eats him.
<v Speaker 3>It's like, oh no, hit Man. Kai actually would go
<v Speaker 3>very hard.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and she blends in with everyone still despite being
<v Speaker 2>from a different film.
<v Speaker 1>Right he should. There's just always one of those guys
<v Speaker 1>around throughout history. He fits in perfectly.
<v Speaker 3>Uh. Yeah, I would love that would.
<v Speaker 2>Be explain patches in the Dock Souls games.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, that's all makes sense.
<v Speaker 2>It all makes sense if you're taking news here, GLB,
<v Speaker 2>please there's a new Xbox Boosh animation that Xbox CEO
<v Speaker 2>Asha Shama has Uh has tweeted out do I know
<v Speaker 2>what it looks like? Sure, it looks like an Xbox
<v Speaker 2>boosing logo.
<v Speaker 1>I was, I was fifty to fifty. We were going
<v Speaker 1>to say that or goatsy one or the other, because usually.
<v Speaker 2>It's an Box logo, so you know, true.
<v Speaker 1>I yeah, we will get to some Asha Sharma and
<v Speaker 1>Xbox stuff here before we've dot everybody. There's always movement
<v Speaker 1>over there, and I'm not I'm still not sure what
<v Speaker 1>to make of that one either. Uh. Capcom says ninety
<v Speaker 1>percent of Resident Evil Requiem players prefer third person, with
<v Speaker 1>first person more divisive.
<v Speaker 3>This is from my Nintendo.
<v Speaker 2>Sent to play is a week.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah right, that's how I feel as well. That's my
<v Speaker 1>initial reaction. If I'm a being toxic, which we.
<v Speaker 2>Alls, they will not survive.
<v Speaker 1>They will not survive, and I will shed no motion sickness.
<v Speaker 1>According to Nakadishi, figures dated one month after Requiem's release
<v Speaker 1>reveal that around ninety percent of players chose to play
<v Speaker 1>in third person for their first play through of Leon's
<v Speaker 1>action oriented sections. Grace's horror focused sections were more divided
<v Speaker 1>because it.
<v Speaker 3>Does default you.
<v Speaker 1>This is like so uh it's oh, you always got
<v Speaker 1>to take that into a cab, but with sixty percent
<v Speaker 1>sticking with the default first person settings and forty percent
<v Speaker 1>switching to third person. So the thing I always point
<v Speaker 1>out here is like they did studies on donating organs
<v Speaker 1>when you die and becoming an organ donor on your
<v Speaker 1>driver's license or whatever, and people like they'll like, Okay,
<v Speaker 1>we'll make it opt in or opt out. And when
<v Speaker 1>it was opt in, people people would not opt in,
<v Speaker 1>and then they would say it's against my beliefs. They
<v Speaker 1>would have all these excuses, and then they would they
<v Speaker 1>shifted it to opt out and people wouldn't opt out,
<v Speaker 1>and people's beliefs would change. They'd be like, oh, I
<v Speaker 1>just they were like, of course I'm an organ donor,
<v Speaker 1>as I see it right here in my driver's license,
<v Speaker 1>and here's why my beliefs match up with that. People
<v Speaker 1>just want to go to the path of the least resistance,
<v Speaker 1>and then they will shift shift their beliefs later. So
<v Speaker 1>if people are actually making a change in their player behavior,
<v Speaker 1>it's because it's something they truly, deeply, actually believe. And
<v Speaker 1>forty percent swapping from from a first person the third
<v Speaker 1>person does indicate there are a lot of people who
<v Speaker 1>just hate first person and I just weak. Week is
<v Speaker 1>the right word. Get over it? Come on, play a
<v Speaker 1>real video game. Embarrassing. I'm joking everybody, but not really.
<v Speaker 2>Punishing.
<v Speaker 1>Oh that's a good idea. You can't leave this room
<v Speaker 1>and it's sets in every corner.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, the equivalent of smoking the entire pack is having
<v Speaker 2>to play one of those like three sixty degree motion games,
<v Speaker 2>and they should have to play it in view or two.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, And that's a good point from chat, like
<v Speaker 1>first person's just scarier, so.
<v Speaker 3>That could be one of the things that makes sense, yeah, where.
<v Speaker 1>It's like, yeah, maybe I don't mind first person actually,
<v Speaker 1>but Jeff, it's scary, and I'm like, oh yeah, I
<v Speaker 1>get that. I'm definitely someone who's pretty scared playing video
<v Speaker 1>games a lot of the time. So anything you could
<v Speaker 1>do to sort of soften that, I get it. Although
<v Speaker 1>I had a great time playing that game and first
<v Speaker 1>person with Grace and then third person looking on, What
<v Speaker 1>do you think this means for the future of this series,
<v Speaker 1>because I hope they kind of just keep defaulting to
<v Speaker 1>here as an option that worked really well, and I
<v Speaker 1>kind of can't see why they couldn't keep doing that.
<v Speaker 2>I think Capcom is smart enough to do what serves
<v Speaker 2>the gameplay, and if they they will continue to have
<v Speaker 2>the option, but I think they will have their defaults
<v Speaker 2>or what kind of story they want to tell. And
<v Speaker 2>they kind of made it pretty clear, like they set
<v Speaker 2>the defaults for those characters specifically those ways because felt
<v Speaker 2>it matched the gameplay and the story of those segments better,
<v Speaker 2>and like honestly, they're like if you play through that
<v Speaker 2>game twice and flip the settings each time, like the
<v Speaker 2>default way is the better way to play, and so like, yeah, it,
<v Speaker 2>I think Capcom's savvy enough not to allow SAT's you know,
<v Speaker 2>we talked you talked about it on the bomb cast yesterday.
<v Speaker 2>But like sometimes the thing with like feedback and statistics
<v Speaker 2>is figuring out, like when it is just noise, and
<v Speaker 2>sometimes it is just noise and you should stick to
<v Speaker 2>your guns and be like, no, this is this is
<v Speaker 2>what we are doing for this game because it serves
<v Speaker 2>the game better than it serves what people think they
<v Speaker 2>might want.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I And like I was trying to like glance at
<v Speaker 1>the sales real quick, be like, is there is there
<v Speaker 1>a signal in this noise? And not really all the
<v Speaker 1>games sell well, I mean Residenta seven sold sixteen million
<v Speaker 1>copies according to this very quick google here that but
<v Speaker 1>I think it's pulling from uh fandom actually, and it's like, yes,
<v Speaker 1>seven or sixteen million, that's that's huge. And Village did
<v Speaker 1>fourteen ish million, and then you know two did even
<v Speaker 1>or resuvable to remake it even more. But that's residuable
<v Speaker 1>to remake, So it's hard to like just look at them, like, well,
<v Speaker 1>obviously if they do third person it sells better.
<v Speaker 3>I think you're right.
<v Speaker 1>The Capcom seems to have a confidence in their decision
<v Speaker 1>making and they will do what's right for the gameplay.
<v Speaker 1>Disney CEO on why gaming could be the company's next
<v Speaker 1>big growth growth driver Curmenny mccoa Game Spot. While Disney
<v Speaker 1>Company released its latest earnings report today and included in
<v Speaker 1>the announcement was an update on the games of business.
<v Speaker 1>In particular, Disney said it sees gaming as an area
<v Speaker 1>of growth, saying gaming is an area of the business
<v Speaker 1>that doesn't deliver significant revenue yet but is strategically important
<v Speaker 1>to the company overall as it looks to the future.
<v Speaker 1>CEO Josh Diamaro said Disney's one point five billion dollar
<v Speaker 1>investment into Epic Games and Fortnite speaks to Disney's or
<v Speaker 1>eagerness to do more in gaming. Interactive platforms are an
<v Speaker 1>increasingly relevant medium for our younger audiences to engage with
<v Speaker 1>characters and stories, and our collaborations with Epic Games is
<v Speaker 1>central to our effort in this space. Our characters are
<v Speaker 1>among the most popular across the Fortnite universe. He also
<v Speaker 1>talked about the huge success that was the Simpsons inside
<v Speaker 1>of Fortnite, with seven hundred and eighty million hours played
<v Speaker 1>across eighty million unique players, and then they want to
<v Speaker 1>do more of that obviously. Okay, my question to you,
<v Speaker 1>Lexi is if gaming is going to be the next
<v Speaker 1>big growth driver for Walt Disney, is what they're doing
<v Speaker 1>with Fortnite enough or do they need to do quite
<v Speaker 1>a bit more.
<v Speaker 3>So.
<v Speaker 2>I think one thing that's worth bearing in mind is
<v Speaker 2>the reason this quote comes about is because they just
<v Speaker 2>put one point five billion dollars a gaming project. Yeah
<v Speaker 2>like that. This isn't him being like, no, we we
<v Speaker 2>genuinely believe this is him saying, like, we made a
<v Speaker 2>really good bet, you guys, and it's got.
<v Speaker 3>To payoff, right.
<v Speaker 1>And that is in contrast though to what happened with
<v Speaker 1>Open Ai where they had a two billion dollar bet
<v Speaker 1>and he did dip on that and was like, that
<v Speaker 1>was not a good bet, but that was the other guy.
<v Speaker 1>But this this was the other guy as well. This
<v Speaker 1>one he's sticking with. But obviously I think it would
<v Speaker 1>look really bad to pull back on all these bets,
<v Speaker 1>so he's sticking with this one, so he really has
<v Speaker 1>to stick with it.
<v Speaker 2>You're right, yeah, And I think that Disney gaming is
<v Speaker 2>such a weird thing because they go through their cycles.
<v Speaker 2>Oh oh, they do how they approached gaming. They had
<v Speaker 2>in house gaming, they had, you know, going all the
<v Speaker 2>way back to like inheriting LucasArts and things like that,
<v Speaker 2>and then they tried to do like their epic Mickey
<v Speaker 2>stuff and all of this, and then they were like, Okay,
<v Speaker 2>we're just gonna license things out and that worked for
<v Speaker 2>a while and they seemed happy with that, and they
<v Speaker 2>were getting David Cage to not make a Star Wars
<v Speaker 2>game that was probably fucking awesome for them. They're getting
<v Speaker 2>licensing residuals for that for nothing, that that's might never
<v Speaker 2>have to worry about that game coming out. And so
<v Speaker 2>like they go through their phases of what they think
<v Speaker 2>is going to be the golden bullet to really crack
<v Speaker 2>gaming for them, and it doesn't seem like anything fully has.
<v Speaker 2>And from what I gathered that Fortnite, Simpson's event was
<v Speaker 2>really big, and some of the Star Wars and Avengers
<v Speaker 2>ones were also really big, or the Marvel ones were
<v Speaker 2>really big, but those new ones that just came out
<v Speaker 2>kind of came and went, and nobody gives a shit
<v Speaker 2>because it turns out people who log into Fortnite want
<v Speaker 2>to play Fortnite. They don't want to play a cookie
<v Speaker 2>clicker mini game where you run a droid factory.
<v Speaker 1>And if they do, if they do want to do that,
<v Speaker 1>they are almost universally playing the ones that are copycat
<v Speaker 1>clones of the biggest games in Roadblocks, Like I don't
<v Speaker 1>know if Dressed to impresses in there, but the other one,
<v Speaker 1>steal my fucking brain rot steal my brain route is
<v Speaker 1>what it is massive in Roadblocks. It's the one that
<v Speaker 1>is pretty big in Fortnite as well.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and so like it is this thing of kind
<v Speaker 2>of chasing, chasing a golden idol that doesn't actually exist,
<v Speaker 2>of you're trying to be somewhere that the players just
<v Speaker 2>fundamentally are never going to go and because in theory,
<v Speaker 2>if you do get there, it would be the greatest
<v Speaker 2>thing in the world. It would make you infinite money.
<v Speaker 2>You would be a money fountain. But like, people aren't
<v Speaker 2>going to change their habits just because you say, like
<v Speaker 2>left is right. They're not gonna start like believing that
<v Speaker 2>just because you say it.
<v Speaker 3>And you have to believe it because that's where the money.
<v Speaker 3>Right is coming from.
<v Speaker 1>Right now, it's coming from Disney, and they need you
<v Speaker 1>to make right be left and left be right, and
<v Speaker 1>it's uh so you kind of have to keep going
<v Speaker 1>that right if you're Epic, if you're Disney. Though I
<v Speaker 1>don't I don't think Fortnite is enough. I think it's
<v Speaker 1>a good start. It's we should not ignore that it
<v Speaker 1>is massively popular with a huge number of players, and
<v Speaker 1>I think that they can make something of it. I
<v Speaker 1>don't think anything they've done so far is really other
<v Speaker 1>than like the Simpsons deal. But that Simpsons deal just
<v Speaker 1>felt like a natural evolution of the deals they were
<v Speaker 1>making before the one point five billion dollar investment, and
<v Speaker 1>then the things that have happened because of that investment,
<v Speaker 1>the Disney parks sort of experiences that were in the
<v Speaker 1>game very disappointing. These I've not heard anyone talk about them.
<v Speaker 1>They look disappointing to me, but I've not played them,
<v Speaker 1>and I've not heard or heard from anyone who has.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, it looks in the vein of those Disney experiences,
<v Speaker 1>the Disney Park experiences. So yeah, I just feel like, Okay,
<v Speaker 1>if they do get there, if they figure it out
<v Speaker 1>with Fortnite, even in that best case scenario, that's still
<v Speaker 1>not enough. So what does the rest of Disney's gaming
<v Speaker 1>strategy look like?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, that's where I'm curious, Like going forward, They've obviously
<v Speaker 2>made a bunch of genuinely really smart bets, like that
<v Speaker 2>galact Racer is a moneyball game. It's not gonna like
<v Speaker 2>set the world on fire, but it is probably not
<v Speaker 2>the most expensive thing to produce and will generate a
<v Speaker 2>lot of good will. Same thing with probably not the
<v Speaker 2>cheap side, But like that Old Republic game that they're
<v Speaker 2>working on is a kind of game that will generate
<v Speaker 2>them a lot of goodwill and could pop off in
<v Speaker 2>a post Bouldersgate three world. And so they are still
<v Speaker 2>investing in more than just Fortnite. I'm going to be
<v Speaker 2>really curious to see if those Disney experiences that were
<v Speaker 2>kind of being rumored to going through testing, and the
<v Speaker 2>Extraction Shooter one that was being talked about as derivative,
<v Speaker 2>if those will be inside of Fortnite, or if these
<v Speaker 2>companies will realize that actually maybe putting these games inside
<v Speaker 2>other games. Isn't this like golden bullet you think it is?
<v Speaker 2>Because ultimately, if someone is logging onto fur Fortnite, they're
<v Speaker 2>on to Fortnite to play a Battle Royale game. They're
<v Speaker 2>not logging on to play a Extraction Shooter. And so
<v Speaker 2>why wouldn't you just make that a separate, executable and
<v Speaker 2>make the distinction clear and not have one way down
<v Speaker 2>the other if it doesn't kick off? And so yeah,
<v Speaker 2>like I'm curious how they present those experiences as they
<v Speaker 2>come to fruition. I'm sure Epic wants them inside a
<v Speaker 2>Fortnite desperately no matter what.
<v Speaker 3>And that's for Disney.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I don't think it would be best for Disney
<v Speaker 2>because I think that like actually having more distinguished products
<v Speaker 2>that can be that aren't tied down to a you know,
<v Speaker 2>a previously built thing is better for them as a licenser.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, all right, we should keep going handful more stories here.
<v Speaker 1>We're running out of time. Mind Zy Studio reportedly lays
<v Speaker 1>off one hundred and seventy employees following update herding alleged attacks.
<v Speaker 3>This is from David Aubrey at VA names. Yeah, we
<v Speaker 3>name names. Build a Rocket Boy.
<v Speaker 1>The studio responsible for twenty twenty five's infamous Mind's Eye
<v Speaker 1>has reportedly laid off more than one hundred and seventy
<v Speaker 1>employees in the last week. This is the third time
<v Speaker 1>the studio has laid off staff in the past year.
<v Speaker 1>The report comes from Kotaku, which cites sources indicating that
<v Speaker 1>approximately one hundred and seventy staff members have been let go,
<v Speaker 1>bring in the studio's developer count down to around eighty.
<v Speaker 1>The reports are seemingly confirmed by LinkedIn posts from multiple
<v Speaker 1>members of the staff who are now looking for work.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah. This, I mean this felt inevitable.
<v Speaker 1>You know, the game did not seem primed to make
<v Speaker 1>a quick turnaround, and I never really thought they had
<v Speaker 1>it in him to stick with the game long term.
<v Speaker 1>But they put out this mission that explains how they
<v Speaker 1>were attacked from the outside to sabotage the game and
<v Speaker 1>all this stuff. You did you play that entire mission.
<v Speaker 2>I played it, I beat that mission, and you learned
<v Speaker 2>all this thing. Yeah, there's a few things to this.
<v Speaker 2>So like one, there was still two hundred and fifty
<v Speaker 2>people at that company.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah that's nice, and fifty felt like would have been
<v Speaker 1>the ceiling for a game like this.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, a couple of years ago, something got out of
<v Speaker 3>hand here.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I can tell you what got out of hand.
<v Speaker 2>And that content release as a last gasp saving throw
<v Speaker 2>is such a fascinating thing of it was never going
<v Speaker 2>to work. It is a single fifty minute long mission
<v Speaker 2>that is ostensibly several subpar hit Man user generated style
<v Speaker 2>missions strung together that you can't save and quip from
<v Speaker 2>without ending the mission and having to reseat over it.
<v Speaker 2>And also the game isn't you've played the game. It's
<v Speaker 2>not a sandbox, but they put you into several sandbox
<v Speaker 2>kind of arenas and they're like, oh about selting this
<v Speaker 2>your way? You don't have the tools for that, and
<v Speaker 2>so it's just not very fun and the only replayability
<v Speaker 2>to it is timed leader boards. And so like my
<v Speaker 2>ultimate takeaway from that stream where I played through it,
<v Speaker 2>which I just posted on YouTube literally today, So if
<v Speaker 2>people haven't checked that out. They can check that out
<v Speaker 2>on my personal YouTube. And my takeaway from that was, like,
<v Speaker 2>no consumer gives a shit about your personal VENDORSUA with
<v Speaker 2>these YouTube managers, which are the two people named in
<v Speaker 2>this thing, seem to work for like some influencer manager
<v Speaker 2>thing or whatever, and so like that's who they've taken
<v Speaker 2>aim at, and like, no one in who bought this
<v Speaker 2>game gives a shit about that personal way, and no
<v Speaker 2>one who didn't buy the game is going to buy
<v Speaker 2>the game because you added a fifty minute long subpal
<v Speaker 2>mission dedicated to like shit talking. The way I put
<v Speaker 2>this on Blue Sky was would be like if Cyberpunk
<v Speaker 2>came out and was a disaster and then their big
<v Speaker 2>fixed patch was a single mission where Johnny Silverhan sent
<v Speaker 2>you on a fetch quest and then tell told you
<v Speaker 2>about all the reviews he thought was unfair. And also
<v Speaker 2>the game sold, and also the game sold like less
<v Speaker 2>than ten thousand copies to begin with, Like that's that's
<v Speaker 2>what we're dealing with here. It's bizarre that anyone on
<v Speaker 2>any level at this company would think that this would
<v Speaker 2>work as a way to entice people back in, and
<v Speaker 2>ultimately I don't think it ever was going to be that.
<v Speaker 2>I think it was a final desperation fuck you to
<v Speaker 2>people that pissed them off.
<v Speaker 3>Yep and wash.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, these people really don't seemingly don't care about their employees,
<v Speaker 2>because if they did, they would put them to work
<v Speaker 2>on something that could actually keep the company afloat, keep
<v Speaker 2>it stable in some way. This product that they worked
<v Speaker 2>on was never going to do that. It was so
<v Speaker 2>much of what they've done post lunch was never going
<v Speaker 2>to keep the company alive and keep people employed. And like,
<v Speaker 2>ultimately this game is like when you played it at Lanche,
<v Speaker 2>you were like, this is ninety percent Avarice, and when
<v Speaker 2>you play it now, you're like, this is one hundred
<v Speaker 2>percent Avarice and it's kind of like incredible. And I
<v Speaker 2>just feel so fucking bad and upset for all the
<v Speaker 2>people that got caught up in this whole thing. And
<v Speaker 2>there's so many talented developers in that region in Scotland,
<v Speaker 2>and they've put so many years of their lives into
<v Speaker 2>this game, and they've dedicated so much time only to
<v Speaker 2>have their like bosses shit to ok their own ethic
<v Speaker 2>and their own commitment to the cars, Like that's kind
<v Speaker 2>of shit that if you did it on a sports team,
<v Speaker 2>you would get kicked fuck out of a league and
<v Speaker 2>you'd never play with the team again. And it's you
<v Speaker 2>only to do it because you're rich enough that you
<v Speaker 2>can go set up the next thing and it doesn't
<v Speaker 2>affect you.
<v Speaker 1>She never you never even thought about the consequences in
<v Speaker 1>the first place, so it never even occurred to them
<v Speaker 1>consequences for other people that were working for them for.
<v Speaker 3>Any of the stuff. They uh leaved it in the
<v Speaker 3>sniff of their own farts.
<v Speaker 1>They're like, Yeah, this shit smells good to me, so
<v Speaker 1>let's get out there and do my vision. And they're visionless,
<v Speaker 1>and it's, uh, it's yeah, it's it's obvious to everyone anyway.
<v Speaker 2>Chopped the Sabators like they said they would, so good
<v Speaker 2>on them.
<v Speaker 3>Good on them. All right, let's hit these last two together.
<v Speaker 1>Xbox hascribed its co pilot AI companion on consoles, Asha Sharma, says, I,
<v Speaker 1>I have a quick read on this, Lexi, and you
<v Speaker 1>tell me just what you think about it. Asha Sharma
<v Speaker 1>coming from the Core AI team or whatever it was
<v Speaker 1>at xpot or at placed Microsoft, and she's brought in
<v Speaker 1>a lot of people from that team, and immediately everyone's
<v Speaker 1>like Okay, so the AI stuff is gonna be doubled down.
<v Speaker 3>I still think it's going to be doubled down.
<v Speaker 1>I just think Asha Sharma does seem kind of savvy
<v Speaker 1>and knows that it cannot just be copilot on Xbox.
<v Speaker 3>That is the laziest.
<v Speaker 1>Implementation that you could possibly do, and it's so transparent
<v Speaker 1>to anybody with half a brain. And as we always
<v Speaker 1>say on the show, Asha Sharma might be savvy, gamers
<v Speaker 1>are absolutely savvager. The shit they see through everything that
<v Speaker 1>isn't Hey, how can I save money and buy more
<v Speaker 1>video games?
<v Speaker 3>That's all I care about.
<v Speaker 1>Deliver that stuff to me and make sure that those
<v Speaker 1>video games are doing something new. I think that that
<v Speaker 1>show will be like, let's take our AI efforts and
<v Speaker 1>integrate them more naturally into the games themselves and make
<v Speaker 1>them features in the game.
<v Speaker 3>Now.
<v Speaker 1>I still think that that is probably not going to
<v Speaker 1>work and will also be pretty transparent.
<v Speaker 3>To see through, but I think it's a better idea
<v Speaker 3>than just copilot on Xbox. What do you think?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, Chris Plant made a great point on Blue Sky
<v Speaker 2>that open Ai discontinued so as they wanted to focus
<v Speaker 2>resources and compute elsewhere, not because they wanted to move
<v Speaker 2>away from AI and video, and this is the same
<v Speaker 2>that is like, why would we invest all of our
<v Speaker 2>AI box into something that people already hash, which is
<v Speaker 2>copilot functionality shoehorned into things that they don't want copilot
<v Speaker 2>functionality shoehorned into. They would much rather just use whatever
<v Speaker 2>money or funding or or and d. They have to
<v Speaker 2>like find ways to slip this in naturally, naturally doing
<v Speaker 2>a lot of legwork there exactly, and into like the
<v Speaker 2>user experience of like, oh, it's just integrated. It's not
<v Speaker 2>like a separate thing. It's just part of the experience.
<v Speaker 1>It's creating new gameplay experiences. And then really it's doing
<v Speaker 1>some other bullshit as well. But yeah, they will, they'll
<v Speaker 1>find the flowery language to sort of make this a
<v Speaker 1>better pitch.
<v Speaker 3>We'll see. I think they just they do.
<v Speaker 1>They see areas at Microsoft I talked about like Excel.
<v Speaker 3>They see areas where oh, it's.
<v Speaker 1>Just consuming every like it's naturally a burning fire that
<v Speaker 1>is spreading like crazy, and the old ways of doing
<v Speaker 1>things will.
<v Speaker 3>Be entirely replaced by the AI way of doing things
<v Speaker 3>by the end of this year.
<v Speaker 1>And they're like, so, why are we trying to force
<v Speaker 1>it into places where that's not naturally happening. And I
<v Speaker 1>they'll try to replicate the sort of natural excitement for
<v Speaker 1>AI that they see in some of these places, in
<v Speaker 1>all of their other and in all and all the
<v Speaker 1>other other buckets like that. That won't stop. That effort
<v Speaker 1>is not going to stop. That is still what Microsoft is.
<v Speaker 1>So they're just going to find cuter and cuter ways
<v Speaker 1>to present this to the gaming side, because that I
<v Speaker 1>think that's still the underlying marching order for everyone that
<v Speaker 1>works at Microsoft. And uh, it might find fun and
<v Speaker 1>novel ways to really suck and be bad.
<v Speaker 3>Uh.
<v Speaker 1>And then Xbox game Pass in May pretty good, uh,
<v Speaker 1>forts a Horizon six mixtape, the Sumnautica too early access launch,
<v Speaker 1>which is kind of a huge git. They're gonna have
<v Speaker 1>a final Fantasy five launched today into game Pass. H
<v Speaker 1>Vampires four is coming with the new DLC, the next Descenders,
<v Speaker 1>game Wheel World, a lot of stuff happy on game Pass.
<v Speaker 1>Combining that with the price drop, Where's what's what's game
<v Speaker 1>passes position? In your opinion, not gonna sub to it?
<v Speaker 1>Twenty four hours a month, stone.
<v Speaker 2>Fing expensive still like boycotted company. I'm fine, nah, dog
<v Speaker 2>I don't need to give you money for games out
<v Speaker 2>of other own anyway. It's fine, It's totally fine, Like
<v Speaker 2>thank you. I'm glad you're trying to like at least
<v Speaker 2>do something in this space again and not just kind
<v Speaker 2>of like stinking up the vibe. But like also, I
<v Speaker 2>just don't care right now, I really don't care.
<v Speaker 1>All right, That does it for the headlines, everybody. Let's
<v Speaker 1>get to the poll question from earlier this week. I
<v Speaker 1>got the results right over here. I'm gonna make sure
<v Speaker 1>I refresh, get them up to date, all right, from
<v Speaker 1>which of these have you played in the last month?
<v Speaker 3>Arc Greaders, Marathon, both or neither.
<v Speaker 1>Let's see here. I've actually played neither, and so have
<v Speaker 1>eighty two percent of people. Eighty two percent of people
<v Speaker 1>have not played either of those games. Two percent have
<v Speaker 1>played both, so I really is a one or the other.
<v Speaker 1>Marathon has twelve percent and arc Greaders has five. So
<v Speaker 1>marathon does seem to have the momentum right now. Obviously
<v Speaker 1>it's newer, but neither are like taking over the world
<v Speaker 1>on a chart like this. But we do see on
<v Speaker 1>the Bomb twelve Marathon near the top for the last
<v Speaker 1>several weeks, so the people who are into it are
<v Speaker 1>very into it. Are you playing either of these games?
<v Speaker 1>I know you're busy reviewing stuff all the time.
<v Speaker 2>Marathon is the thing I constantly want to be going
<v Speaker 2>back to at the moment. It's the thing that I
<v Speaker 2>keep on trying to organize play Okay, yeah and stuff
<v Speaker 2>like that. I really dig that game. That game is
<v Speaker 2>so fucking mean and so harsh, but in a way
<v Speaker 2>that works really well, and so yeah, I want to
<v Speaker 2>get back to it. I want to get back to Marathon.
<v Speaker 1>All right, we have a new pole question. We'll get
<v Speaker 1>to here in a second and I'll write that out
<v Speaker 1>for you Jan here in a moment. But before we
<v Speaker 1>do that, LEXI tell people where they can find you,
<v Speaker 1>what you have going on, all that good stuff.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, you can find me on Blue Sky at Lexlodi
<v Speaker 2>dot xyz. You can also check out my review of
<v Speaker 2>Seros up now on gamer Guides. I'm working on two
<v Speaker 2>other reviews for them right now. You can check out
<v Speaker 2>the website that I'm on Startmanu dot co dot uk,
<v Speaker 2>which is for people trying to break into games media
<v Speaker 2>and figure out a way to make this should work
<v Speaker 2>in the modern day. You can support us so that
<v Speaker 2>we can do paid reviews, and that we can come
<v Speaker 2>save people for their time and for their work and
<v Speaker 2>by supporting us. Over at patreon dot com slash start menu,
<v Speaker 2>we have a weekly news roundup that goes up every
<v Speaker 2>week and we rotate writers through that every month to
<v Speaker 2>give people the experience writing news. And yeah, plenty of
<v Speaker 2>other cool stuff over on start menu, so check that out.
<v Speaker 3>All right.
<v Speaker 1>Let's see here, new poll question. Let's do a GTA
<v Speaker 1>price check with everybody. What do you think one hundred dollars,
<v Speaker 1>ninety dollars, eighty dollars or seventy dollars. Look at the results,
