<v Speaker 1>it was just baffling. So you click on one season

<v Speaker 1>good episode. A bad air. This was a good episode,

<v Speaker 4>And I mean, look, I've been sort of not consciously
<v Speaker 4>avoiding new episodes of the Simpsons, but I mean, life
<v Speaker 4>is busy, there's a.
<v Speaker 1>Lot going on. I think, yeah, yeah, I'll get to
<v Speaker 1>it when I get to it. Yeah, if I get
<v Speaker 1>that's the model of life now, I'll get to it
<v Speaker 1>when I get to it. Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>My favorite four words of it's on the list. Yeah, okay,
<v Speaker 4>well this is going to be.

<v Speaker 1>good emotional story, had good bones. Yeah, yeah, so no,

<v Speaker 4>Pretty impressed to the point where it's like I could
<v Speaker 4>probably tune in watch a few more new episodes.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, they're going to be like this. Now. I'm going

<v Speaker 1>I like about this. I think the Simpsons have officially
<v Speaker 1>I'm just saying officially. They're not saying officially officially retconn
<v Speaker 1>of the timeline because there have been episodes in the
<v Speaker 1>past that ninety shows, one that springs to mind, right,
<v Speaker 1>which came out in like early two thousand, two thousand
<v Speaker 1>and four and eight. I don't know whatever, it's early
<v Speaker 1>two thousands and people were up in arms. How can
<v Speaker 1>the Simpsons if march I haven't been at college in
<v Speaker 1>the nineties, it doesn't make sense timeline wise, blah blah blah.
<v Speaker 1>And Matt Salmon our dear Pale. Matt Salmon has said
<v Speaker 1>the timeline's floating, don't worry about it. Watch this episode
<v Speaker 1>in a capsule. And there have been other episodes since
<v Speaker 1>that mom was in twenty twenty one called Do Pizza
<v Speaker 1>Bot's Stream of Electric Guitars, which is about Homer being
<v Speaker 1>like a fourteen year old in the early nineties, which
<v Speaker 1>makes a little bit more sense timeline wise, but there
<v Speaker 1>was a lot of criticism that on social media, people
<v Speaker 1>with continuity and timelines, and Matt someone had to respond
<v Speaker 1>to them basically saying that what did he say. We're
<v Speaker 1>not saying this is the official continuity now and none
<v Speaker 1>of that other stuff happened. We're just saying in this
<v Speaker 1>one episode, this is a silly way to present the
<v Speaker 1>character's life. It doesn't mean that the people's beloved episodes
<v Speaker 1>from the past didn't happen. They all kind of happened
<v Speaker 1>in their own imaginary world, you know, and people can
<v Speaker 1>choose to love whichever version they love. I watched this
<v Speaker 1>one right, and I feel like this is an official
<v Speaker 1>retcon of The Simpsons Margin Homer grew up in the nineties,
<v Speaker 1>because if you're watching this Rod, my children are watching
<v Speaker 1>this episode, it makes sense their parents, who are now
<v Speaker 1>margin Homer's age, we grew up in the nineties. So
<v Speaker 1>for a kid watching this show, this is almost like
<v Speaker 1>an official rebranding of this is your era of the
<v Speaker 1>show now. That's what I was thinking. Yeah, which it's
<v Speaker 1>and I'm all for it.
<v Speaker 4>It's really interesting something about when you when you're talking
<v Speaker 4>about it this way, because you know, certainly if you
<v Speaker 4>have my generation, which is you know, I'm Generation X, right, Basically,
<v Speaker 4>Homer is now me. Homer is now generation X. Essentially,
<v Speaker 4>if Homer Marge grew up in the nineties, went to
<v Speaker 4>high school or even elementary school or junior high in
<v Speaker 4>the nineties, as it seems in this episode going through
<v Speaker 4>the yearbooks and all that kind of stuff, it's like, well.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, but generation X views the world in a certain way,
<v Speaker 1>each generational view. So if they were in high school,
<v Speaker 1>middle school, in the in the in the early mid nineties,
<v Speaker 1>then they'll be my age because that's twenty five. I
<v Speaker 1>say twenty five. I guess yeah, because fourteen millennials, Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>they're me. But what they've done is they've made I
<v Speaker 1>am now Margin because when I watched The Simpsons when
<v Speaker 1>I was a kid right in the nineties, Margin Homer
<v Speaker 1>where my parents age, and my parents grew up in
<v Speaker 1>the seventies and made logisticals it's that they would score
<v Speaker 1>in the seventies, right or boomers? But yeah, whatever, So
<v Speaker 1>now when you watch it, I am now margin home,
<v Speaker 1>I am now the parent my kids are watching it,
<v Speaker 1>so my kids are now looking up going what makes
<v Speaker 1>sense that Margin Homer were growing up the same time
<v Speaker 1>that my mum and dad are. So this is like
<v Speaker 1>the official rebranding of this is your era of the sentence? Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>so are they going to What?
<v Speaker 4>I guess what I was trying to say with that
<v Speaker 4>is like, will Homer and Marge sort of be the
<v Speaker 4>same as they always were because generations are different, they will.
<v Speaker 1>Be personality wise, you mean, yeah, I think they will
<v Speaker 1>still be similar, but they will just the timeline I
<v Speaker 1>feel like now is, Yeah, the nineties is what the
<v Speaker 1>seventies was when The Simpsons started.
<v Speaker 4>Yea, because I get the filling that people who grew
<v Speaker 4>up in the nineties are going to view the world differently,
<v Speaker 4>view parenting differently, through view life differently.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe they will be.
<v Speaker 4>Than the home in Marge we had saying, you know,
<v Speaker 4>seasons that were teens or something, you know, like not
<v Speaker 4>that they were teens, but like seasons thirteen through nineteen
<v Speaker 4>or whatever.
<v Speaker 1>I don't think we saw enough in this episode to
<v Speaker 1>really decide whether that it's going to be a yes
<v Speaker 1>or a no. Yeah, So the it's true we might
<v Speaker 1>be in the early days of this whole rebranding. Yeah, well,
<v Speaker 1>just a Conrad who was going to come on the show.
<v Speaker 1>I've been told of Jessica Conrad. She wrote this episode,
<v Speaker 1>and she has said that she wanted to write the
<v Speaker 1>story based on her own experience of wearing her mother's
<v Speaker 1>clothes and feeling cool when they came back into fashion again.
<v Speaker 1>She wanted to present the feeling of the late nineties
<v Speaker 1>and early two thousands for current day children, and included
<v Speaker 1>references to DayLA's brand and the television series Dawson's Creek.
<v Speaker 1>Director Gabrielle de Francesco also encountered a similar experience while
<v Speaker 1>making the episode because his mother in law was sending
<v Speaker 1>his wife's old clothes for his children. A reference to
<v Speaker 1>the seventh season episode some four foot two was apparently
<v Speaker 1>in this episode, and then cut it out because it
<v Speaker 1>would have been too on the notes. I did have
<v Speaker 1>Summer of fourfoot to vibes to it, wearing different clothes
<v Speaker 1>and whatnot. But I just think whether they will say
<v Speaker 1>it's an official timeline because you're putting yourself in a
<v Speaker 1>bit of a hole there or sort of in the
<v Speaker 1>corner if you say this is now the new timeline,
<v Speaker 1>because then you can't change it up a bit. But
<v Speaker 1>I like to think that this is now. My kids
<v Speaker 1>can watch the Simpsons, and it feels like The Simpsons
<v Speaker 1>is now current and relevant again because your kids now
<v Speaker 1>are living in the timeline of what my kids live in.
<v Speaker 1>I think if you're a consent, yeah, no, it does.
<v Speaker 1>It does. I think if you're a consumer of pop culture,
<v Speaker 1>you really have to be a bit flexible. You have
<v Speaker 1>to sort of meet the creators, particularly stuff that's long running.
<v Speaker 1>You know, it goes back to like Star Wars and
<v Speaker 1>Marvel Comic Sawks anything like that. You know, realize that
<v Speaker 1>you have to have a bit of flexibility when it
<v Speaker 1>comes to timelines and things like that if you wanted
<v Speaker 1>to sort of remain relevant. I mean, I think the
<v Speaker 1>fundamentals have to apply. But that's in terms of storytelling
<v Speaker 1>more than they say, and in terms of characterization. But yeah,
<v Speaker 1>it's like people who get all sort of bunched up
<v Speaker 1>about say James Bond, like well, you know that they're all, well,
<v Speaker 1>James Bond is just a code name, and all these
<v Speaker 1>people are James Bond.
<v Speaker 4>It's like they're just different movies man, you know. And Rogers,
<v Speaker 4>a different actor playing Roger Moore got too old to
<v Speaker 4>play James Bond, so they got a new James Bond
<v Speaker 4>in you know, it's it's not all part of one
<v Speaker 4>big story.
<v Speaker 1>It's more like one character. Yeah. Overall that I just
<v Speaker 1>watched this going I feel like I'm watching a yeah
<v Speaker 1>era of the show. Oh yeah, very much. I look
<v Speaker 1>because this this feels like it wasn't a one off
<v Speaker 1>kind of episode. This feels like this is meant to
<v Speaker 1>be in the cannon and show you.
<v Speaker 4>I say this with all do you respect to Jessica Conrad? Yes,
<v Speaker 4>ye future, I guess the show. She may not want
<v Speaker 4>to be on it with me after the gags could
<v Speaker 4>have been a little tighter.
<v Speaker 1>I thought there were some actually having said that, no, sorry,
<v Speaker 1>Jessica taking it all.
<v Speaker 4>Back, I'm going to like a lot. I've got a
<v Speaker 4>lot of a pink pretty good gag. That's that line
<v Speaker 4>is pretty cool. Yeah, so okay, props to you. Maybe
<v Speaker 4>overall it's kind of like, oh look, this wasn't laugh
<v Speaker 4>a minute, But I was like, I didn't walk away gone,
<v Speaker 4>you guys hang it up, even in terms of because
<v Speaker 4>I think one thing I was really worried about was
<v Speaker 4>voice acting. Yeah, because you know we've sort of talked
<v Speaker 4>about again, Julie Cavn, who we love and respect, is
<v Speaker 4>like this bit of wear and tear on those vocal
<v Speaker 4>cords might be time to, you know, look into other alternatives.
<v Speaker 4>I don't know if they did some tweaking in this
<v Speaker 4>episode or whatever. You can certainly hear is like, this
<v Speaker 4>doesn't sound exactly like the Marge of old but nor
<v Speaker 4>does it sound.
<v Speaker 1>Like didn't sound she was unwell? Yeah, because there was
<v Speaker 1>a while where it felt like Marge had a cold.
<v Speaker 1>That's what it sounded like. I'm gonna say this though.
<v Speaker 1>It was so bizarre, and this is just an example
<v Speaker 1>of modern day voice over work. Right, they obviously recorded
<v Speaker 1>from their own house. Now they don't do it in
<v Speaker 1>the studios. Julie obviously recorded her lines in a home
<v Speaker 1>studio that wasn't probably soundproofed because I watched this episode
<v Speaker 1>with headphones, right, and Homer's dialogue was good, Lisa's dialogue
<v Speaker 1>was fine, but whenever Marge spoke had a bit of
<v Speaker 1>an echo, probably through TVs. You can't pick it up
<v Speaker 1>through my soundproof noise canceling headphones. I was like, what
<v Speaker 1>is going why is this sound echo? We and I
<v Speaker 1>realized it was only when Margor was speaking, So Julie
<v Speaker 1>obviously was recording in a studio. That wasn't probably soundproofed.
<v Speaker 1>I was like, that's just twenty twenty five, that wasn't it,
<v Speaker 1>And when Dano is a very purest when it comes
<v Speaker 1>to sound, So yeah, but I just I just don't know.
<v Speaker 1>It was often because you know, at least we'll talk fine,
<v Speaker 1>then much had the necho. At least we'll talk fine.
<v Speaker 1>Then much had necho. I was like, I couldn't work
<v Speaker 1>out what was going on. And then yeah, obviously I
<v Speaker 1>was like, oh, Julie didn't record this in a properly
<v Speaker 1>sound Britife studio. But otherwise now, I mean, the voice
<v Speaker 1>wise was fine. Yeah, yeah, you could certainly tell. I
<v Speaker 1>thought Dan's voice was a little off from home. It
<v Speaker 1>feels like his voice has changed from I noticed more
<v Speaker 1>in the episode that I mistakenly watched, Yeah, the one
<v Speaker 1>with O'Brien. I feel like, I mean, I'm probably wrong here,
<v Speaker 1>but personally I'm watching this as someone who's watched a
<v Speaker 1>lot of the newer episodes. It feels like they improved
<v Speaker 1>this season. I'm not sure what's happened. Yeah, maybe some
<v Speaker 1>some slight tweaking going on, maybe tweak er trigger. I
<v Speaker 1>don't think it's fine, likely wrote me all that much
<v Speaker 1>doesn't bother me. You know. I understand why it might
<v Speaker 1>bother the voice actors, but I don't think it should. Hopefully,
<v Speaker 1>hopefully the voice I can't really have.
<v Speaker 4>Well, I hope the guys who brought us so much
<v Speaker 4>joy bringing voices to the character of The Simpsons are still,
<v Speaker 4>you know, getting the check every week.
<v Speaker 1>I also think a reason why I feel like this
<v Speaker 1>episode really resonated with me and I seem to seem
<v Speaker 1>to appeal to me in a great sense was The
<v Speaker 1>Simpsons is now being written by people who are my age.
<v Speaker 1>When I was a kid, the Simpsons was written by
<v Speaker 1>grown ups. I'm now a grown up, and Jessica Conrad
<v Speaker 1>is someone similar to my age. She's written an episode
<v Speaker 1>based on a personal experience of hers, which is in
<v Speaker 1>a personal experience of mine, you know. And I think
<v Speaker 1>that's why the main story of Lisa and Marge not
<v Speaker 1>only connecting through this old TV show pulling out the
<v Speaker 1>DVD's and saying, you know, this show's not on streaming,
<v Speaker 1>but I've got this thing called physical media. You put
<v Speaker 1>it in, and I've experienced that recently where we're on Netflix.
<v Speaker 1>Shrek's been taken off and couldn't find on anything, and
<v Speaker 1>I was like, but it's right there. We've got all
<v Speaker 1>four shreks. Why why are we looking for Why are
<v Speaker 1>we googling with streamings of us? We owned the movie,
<v Speaker 1>and the kids like what do you mean? And now
<v Speaker 1>Wholly in particular, she loves going to the shelf and
<v Speaker 1>picking out a movie, picking it, looking at the cover,
<v Speaker 1>looking at the pictures, putting it back. And I'm not
<v Speaker 1>that one looking at the cover. Yeah, that's the one
<v Speaker 1>taking it out, putting in the experience of picking a
<v Speaker 1>movie and holding it.
<v Speaker 4>This is unrelated. Feel free to cut this out if

<v Speaker 4>We recently spoke with Alan Siegel from The Ringer. The
<v Speaker 4>Ringer does a great array of podcast and one of
<v Speaker 4>my favorites called The Big Picture, And recently they did
<v Speaker 4>an episode called The High Council of Physical Media Collectors
<v Speaker 4>where they had two of the regular guys, but also
<v Speaker 4>two guests. One's an actor named Timothy Simon's who's on
<v Speaker 4>a show called Nobody Wants This He's on Someone Deep,
<v Speaker 4>and one is an actor playwright called Tracy Letts. They're
<v Speaker 4>both they're all huge, sort of big collectors of blue
<v Speaker 4>rays from all around the world and all this, and
<v Speaker 4>they're basically just boys with their toys, bringing in like
<v Speaker 4>I got this from I'm boarded this from the UK.
<v Speaker 1>It took six months to ride, but check it out.
<v Speaker 1>They're so happy with it.
<v Speaker 4>And one of the guys was basically a new collector
<v Speaker 4>and didn't have as much of the other guys.
<v Speaker 1>One guy had something like eleven thousand blue rays. Made
<v Speaker 1>Guy Davis looked like a fucking amateur. I can one year,
<v Speaker 1>They've got one thy twenty eight. I haven't counted one yet.
<v Speaker 1>I put them on. I put him with apaetical waterer
<v Speaker 1>Nicolas Like, but what happens when like that one on
<v Speaker 1>that shelf you need? You need to move them all down.
<v Speaker 1>I'm like, don't even bring it up. Just I've got

<v Speaker 4>But one of the guys it was was a new
<v Speaker 4>collector and the guy who had a lot, it's like, yeah,
<v Speaker 4>occasionally I'll have doubles of stuff or I'll buy a
<v Speaker 4>new version. And he was like, do you own this
<v Speaker 4>on four K And he goes, I don't. He's like,
<v Speaker 4>you do now, and basically just gave him all his doubles.
<v Speaker 4>I swear to god, I always had to pull over
<v Speaker 4>the car and like, that's great, man, it was so nice.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, physical media, We're all for it. But when
<v Speaker 1>she pulled out, pulled out the obviously Dawson's creep parody
<v Speaker 1>was Kegan's Pond, and just I think that that appeared also,
<v Speaker 1>that was a big show when I was sort of
<v Speaker 1>like in my formative years as well, and I think
<v Speaker 1>it was a great choice with Jessica Conrad to have
<v Speaker 1>that song, which wasn't exactly I don't want to Wait
<v Speaker 1>by Paula Cars, but it was very similar, wasn't it.
<v Speaker 1>Oh very much? So yeah, and just watching them just
<v Speaker 1>bonding over this TV show from when they were when
<v Speaker 1>Marge was younger. And then she gets the clothes because
<v Speaker 1>this is what happens. Nichola's got some clothes fro when
<v Speaker 1>she was younger. Holly is now obviously doesn't quite fitt yet,
<v Speaker 1>but it's like she's trying it on and she just
<v Speaker 1>wanted to look like marm And it's like, I've experienced
<v Speaker 1>what Marge and Lisa are going through here, you know, Well,
<v Speaker 1>did you ever go through old Man's closet? All? Ah,
<v Speaker 1>I did it with a few of mine through my
<v Speaker 1>dad's stuff. Yeah, I never did, but Elliott's gone through.
<v Speaker 1>And that's why I think A big part of it
<v Speaker 1>is a moment this episode where Marge talking about like
<v Speaker 1>she's remembering when she wore this shirt and that shirt.
<v Speaker 1>I think she mentioned something, I had so many great
<v Speaker 1>memories in this shirt, and now I've got one more
<v Speaker 1>thanks to you. It's such a lot about the Paul
<v Speaker 1>Frank Donky shirt. I think that's why I personally struggle
<v Speaker 1>sometimes to get rid of shirts, because with clothes comes memories.
<v Speaker 1>Oh sure, I've got one that you remember morning years
<v Speaker 1>probably doesn't fit me all that well. I wore on
<v Speaker 1>my first date with Nikola. It's like I don't want
<v Speaker 1>to get rid of that. Oh yeah, and I remember
<v Speaker 1>when I went out and had a great night wearing
<v Speaker 1>this shirt, and it might not fit me as much anymore,

<v Speaker 1>There's this fear with me that if I get rid
<v Speaker 1>of the shirt then me he will fade awake. So

<v Speaker 4>The whole Condo spark joy thing, right, Yeah, I mean
<v Speaker 4>I've got a shirt that I've happened nearly thirty years

<v Speaker 1>And yeah, I'm I'm not going to throw it out.
<v Speaker 1>I'll never throw it out. I mean it'll be like

<v Speaker 1>and with his shirt hanging up in my closet, all
<v Speaker 1>the memories. But yeah, the memory of it is, you know,
