<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, welcome to game Breaking News with me Jeff Grubb, <v Speaker 1>your host from giant bomb dot com. Thank you for <v Speaker 1>tuning in. In this episode, we're gonna be talking about <v Speaker 1>pre ordering the switch to and the next massive multiplayer hit. <v Speaker 1>I think something's happening with Oblivion as well. It's gonna <v Speaker 1>be a good one because we have Emma Phife on <v Speaker 1>the show. <v Speaker 2>Emma, how are you doing. <v Speaker 3>I'm great. <v Speaker 4>I'm seeing in chat and confirming on the Internet that <v Speaker 4>that Pope Francis died the day. <v Speaker 1>Well okay, yes, and Black Club had nothing to do <v Speaker 1>with it this time, so I think the curse is broken. <v Speaker 1>Uh yeah, Hey, it was definitely one of those things <v Speaker 1>where it's like he suddenly started feeling better and everyone <v Speaker 1>was relieved, and it's like, you know those healthcare health <v Speaker 1>worker memes are always like uh oh, that usually is <v Speaker 1>like the last burst before the end, and that's how <v Speaker 1>life goes. So uh hey, as far as popes go, <v Speaker 1>not a bat. I like Frank quite a bit. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, he was all right. Yeah. <v Speaker 4>Here's the thing is that now that means that it's <v Speaker 4>time for conclave. I r L. I think we get <v Speaker 4>in there with some cameras and we do a reality <v Speaker 4>show about the conclave around. <v Speaker 1>The election of a new pope, it would I mean, <v Speaker 1>you're joking, and that would probably be the most popular show. <v Speaker 2>I would watch. <v Speaker 1>Those caddy bitches just in there, just backstabbing one another. <v Speaker 2>I would love that. I yeah, A jd Vance killed him. <v Speaker 2>I'll just say it. I'll stay right to the camera. Clearly, <v Speaker 2>that's what happened here. Everybody, we all know it. <v Speaker 3>You know he would, He really didn't. <v Speaker 4>He didn't get a chance to check out the new <v Speaker 4>Labuobu drop happening this week, So like, that's really so sad. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, really you got to watch He got to watch <v Speaker 1>Night one of WrestleMania though, so that's good. Yeah, all right, <v Speaker 1>Uh let's see here. Hey, Yeah, the oblivion thing is <v Speaker 1>just kind of just popping off. I was adding it, <v Speaker 1>adding it to the rundown here. We'll talk about that <v Speaker 1>here in the news in a second. But how you been, like, <v Speaker 1>have you been playing anything? Have you given blueprint Prints <v Speaker 1>a chance? Have have you not had a chance? Because <v Speaker 1>he's playing it? What's going on? <v Speaker 3>Well, Gabe keeps playing at number one. <v Speaker 4>My husband has has finished the main game and is <v Speaker 4>now being like, oh I don't know if I'm gonna <v Speaker 4>play too much more of this, Like there's clearly more <v Speaker 4>for me to discover, and he has not stopped playing it. <v Speaker 1>It's such an iceberg of like, you know, I got <v Speaker 1>the credits and I'm like, oh my god, there's I <v Speaker 1>understand like a fifth of it I'm realizing now. <v Speaker 2>At that point, I was at like two percent. <v Speaker 1>Like it is, Yes, there is so much more in <v Speaker 1>that game than you realize. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, so what have I been doing? Uh? <v Speaker 3>It was busy last week. <v Speaker 4>We were filming some branded stuff and then also starting <v Speaker 4>to prep for summer events and things. And then of course, <v Speaker 4>you know, my new rabbit hole is PopMart I'm totally obsessed. <v Speaker 4>I have cry babies now and a skull panda and yeah, <v Speaker 4>those of you in chat who are Popmark collectors, you know, <v Speaker 4>I saw people talking about the one piece the Monsters <v Speaker 4>drop and how they bought a bunch of figures and. <v Speaker 3>Now they're poor, and you know what I feel you, <v Speaker 3>I feel you. <v Speaker 4>But yeah, it's been I'm I'm And then I went <v Speaker 4>to Renaissance Fair this weekend, so. <v Speaker 2>Oh yeah, so the real fun stuff. <v Speaker 3>The real fun stuff, and that was great. So I'm <v Speaker 3>going again next weekend. <v Speaker 1>I've never been to a rent Fair. Nothing against I've <v Speaker 1>always i think wanted to go. Like when you go, <v Speaker 1>what do you do? <v Speaker 2>You? <v Speaker 4>I always dress up and mostly you walk around and <v Speaker 4>people watch. <v Speaker 3>There's a bunch of shows. Uh. <v Speaker 4>The La Renfair has a couple of like really fun <v Speaker 4>musical groups, Like there's one I really like who are <v Speaker 4>called the Merry Wives. And they they sing you know, <v Speaker 4>like body red and fair tunes. It's really fun and <v Speaker 4>yeah you yeah, you eat food, you watch goofy shows, <v Speaker 4>you shop, you people watch. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's a great sure. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, it's really really fun. <v Speaker 4>Uh. They have lots of nice activities and things set <v Speaker 4>up for kids as well. Uh so you know, it's <v Speaker 4>always really fun when you see the little kids all <v Speaker 4>dressed up in their little outfits. And I saw a <v Speaker 4>little girl yesterday who was trying one of the like <v Speaker 4>cape wings and yeah, it's really really fun. But uh yeah, <v Speaker 4>and you do sort of consent to some light sexual harassment. <v Speaker 2>Yeah then just does that just go hand in hand <v Speaker 2>with the ren Fair kind of does? <v Speaker 4>Yeah? <v Speaker 2>You call a winch a lot, is that what it <v Speaker 2>is or what? <v Speaker 4>No, No, they've they've toned all that kind of stuff down. <v Speaker 4>There are certain areas where like there's this one bar <v Speaker 4>at the so call Renfair called the Ubliet, where you know, <v Speaker 4>they put you in like docks and if you're a <v Speaker 4>lady and a bodice you have to like lean over <v Speaker 4>to drink or drink, so you know you're. <v Speaker 2>Right of course, okay, but not that woke, all right. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, yeah, but yeah, it's uh, it's it's a it's <v Speaker 4>a good time. I bought a little crystal sword necklace <v Speaker 4>and I really like it, so it was a great day. <v Speaker 1>Well, it does sound like a good time. I'm going <v Speaker 1>to look into a rent fair. <v Speaker 2>I'm gonna go. I think the kids would like it. <v Speaker 3>Actually, yeah, I think your girls would love it. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, all right, let's explain what we do here most weekdays. <v Speaker 1>I Jeff Grubb, will help piece your gaming life back together. <v Speaker 1>That includes breaking news and maybe even some of our <v Speaker 1>own original reporting. For all these topics, I'll get the <v Speaker 1>input of a bona fide expert who will make me <v Speaker 1>look smart. If you are watching live on twitch welcome, <v Speaker 1>You can always listen to the show later on podcast <v Speaker 1>feeds by searching for game breaking news, or find the <v Speaker 1>RSS feed on giant Bomb dot Com. <v Speaker 2>You can also catch the show later on YouTube. Hello YouTube. <v Speaker 1>All right, we have a lot to get into, so <v Speaker 1>let's start breaking the game news with Bethesda has announced <v Speaker 1>an Oblivion stream for tomorrow on Blue Sky. The official <v Speaker 1>Elder Scrolls account said tomorrow eleven am Eastern, and it <v Speaker 1>posted a picture of the Roman Numeral four with some <v Speaker 1>artwork in the background. <v Speaker 2>It's Oblivion. It's clearly the Elder spolls for Oblivion. <v Speaker 1>And yeah, they've also people have done some like digging <v Speaker 1>on Steam in the back end have found that the <v Speaker 1>game files are already uploaded to the Steam servers and <v Speaker 1>there are one hundred and twenty gigabytes, So big, big, <v Speaker 1>big remaster apparently here, you know, remaster remake. I'm sure <v Speaker 1>we'll have a conversation about that ongoing as as this <v Speaker 1>actually comes out. Basically, the files are ready loaded, ready <v Speaker 1>to go, and they have a stream tomorrow. They're they're <v Speaker 1>gonna shadow drop this thing tomorrow. It's kind of the <v Speaker 1>way I see it going down. So yeah, yeah, I'm <v Speaker 1>excited about this. Continue to be like, oh right, yeah, <v Speaker 1>it feels like we've f known about it forever because <v Speaker 1>in a lot of ways we have. <v Speaker 2>But where's your excitement level at for an oblivion. <v Speaker 4>I mean, look, as we discussed, we knew that this <v Speaker 4>was gonna happen, and I think that this is a <v Speaker 4>nice in between of just straight up shadow dropping and <v Speaker 4>having a lot of build up. Is basically do a <v Speaker 4>stream when the game is essentially available. <v Speaker 2>Yep, exactly. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, and it's you know, I think people are still <v Speaker 1>not sure, like are they really going to shadow drop <v Speaker 1>this thing? <v Speaker 2>It looks like such a big deal. <v Speaker 1>And yeah, I'll admit that I don't fully understand the <v Speaker 1>strategy of like what makes sense for them in terms <v Speaker 1>of shadow dropping, and I guess shadow dropping just means <v Speaker 1>stealth dropping dropping the day you announce it essentially, you know, <v Speaker 1>Or is this or maybe they are going to pull <v Speaker 1>the rug out from under what I've been hearing in <v Speaker 1>terms of reporting and this is just the start of <v Speaker 1>a marketing campaign and they'll make a big deal about <v Speaker 1>it for weeks. But I think this game continues to <v Speaker 1>be big enough that if you say it's available now, <v Speaker 1>people will get excited and you don't need the extended <v Speaker 1>marketing campaign. <v Speaker 2>It can kind of sell itself. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. <v Speaker 4>I mean, we discussed at length the fact that this <v Speaker 4>is different than dropping a new IP. This is an <v Speaker 4>existing ip, This is a it seems to be significant <v Speaker 4>remaster of a game that already has a fan base <v Speaker 4>that even perhaps gained more of an interest in the <v Speaker 4>post Skyrim world. <v Speaker 3>So you just. <v Speaker 4>Don't need to spend on marketing on this the way <v Speaker 4>that you do with another game, and simply putting the <v Speaker 4>game out there. <v Speaker 3>And being like, hey, now this is available to play. <v Speaker 3>It's not necessarily a bad idea. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, and I think, but that's this company that you know, <v Speaker 1>you know, under Microsoft, but they operate mostly on their own. <v Speaker 1>It's probably like, hey, you know what saving money on <v Speaker 1>a marketing campaign is. You know, a dollar saved is <v Speaker 1>a dollar earned. You know, fifteen million dollars saved is <v Speaker 1>fifteen million dollars earned. Right, So you just kind of <v Speaker 1>turn that into older schools. Is and a thing that <v Speaker 1>generates excitement on its own, let's take advantage of that. <v Speaker 1>And yeah, this thing's going to be out this week <v Speaker 1>and is I think it's going to do very well <v Speaker 1>as long as you know, there's no cataclysmic issues, which <v Speaker 1>could always. <v Speaker 2>Happen, especially with a Bathesta game. So yeah, we'll see. <v Speaker 1>But in terms of like how it looks I'm very <v Speaker 1>excited to go back to Oblivion. <v Speaker 2>And you're right. Oblivion was successful. <v Speaker 1>It was a very big deal on the Xbox three sixty, <v Speaker 1>but Skyrim was just several like orders of magnutude larger <v Speaker 1>than that. And you know, I think there's a lot <v Speaker 1>of you know, obviously, if there's a ton of people <v Speaker 1>who played Skyrim and never went back to Oblivion the <v Speaker 1>rest of the series, I think, you know, eventually this <v Speaker 1>does maybe take them back to Morowind at some point, <v Speaker 1>probably no time soon. They almost certainly would do fall <v Speaker 1>Out three first before going back to Morowin. <v Speaker 2>But hey, either way, very cool, very excited to see it. <v Speaker 1>I was a Moro Wind player back in the day, <v Speaker 1>so I've tried it a couple of times since. I <v Speaker 1>didn't play it at the time, but got people who <v Speaker 1>love Morowin love Moro Win, and I feel. <v Speaker 3>Like I really liked it and I played it. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, I feel like it was the first game that <v Speaker 4>I ever played where I felt like I was just <v Speaker 4>dropped into the game and they went, Okay, do whatever <v Speaker 4>you want. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, and I God, that's that's my game. <v Speaker 1>Like I talk about like wanting to be autonomous of <v Speaker 1>my games, and yeah, kind of like, uh, you know <v Speaker 1>Mitchella Show last week you had me a game, and <v Speaker 1>I don't feel like you're handing me a story. I <v Speaker 1>feel like you're handing me a guitar that I get <v Speaker 1>to play and be a part of. And I think <v Speaker 1>it was Oblivion that was a huge part of opening <v Speaker 1>my eyes, like, oh, this is possible and I can <v Speaker 1>enjoy games on my own terms. And since then that's <v Speaker 1>been the dragon I've been chasing. Yeah, all right, let's <v Speaker 1>get over to a lot of switch to news. Obviously <v Speaker 1>that is out in let's see a little bit over <v Speaker 1>a month. Yeah, a month and a week away, essentially <v Speaker 1>month and ten days, So it's gonna be a lot <v Speaker 1>of news. It's going to dominate the headlines here for <v Speaker 1>the next little bit, especially this week as pre orders <v Speaker 1>will begin in the United States. <v Speaker 2>If you already have your pre orders somewhere. <v Speaker 1>Else, apologies as we all get excited late because. <v Speaker 2>We are a mess of a country. <v Speaker 1>But GameStop, Target, and Walmart announced when their switch to <v Speaker 1>pre orders are going to start. This is from Jay <v Speaker 1>Peters at The Verge. Nintendo said today that switch to <v Speaker 1>pre orders in the United States will begin on April <v Speaker 1>twenty fourth, ahead of the Consul's June fifth launch day, <v Speaker 1>and now GameStop, Target, and Walmart have shared exactly when <v Speaker 1>you could try to snag a pre order. Game Stops <v Speaker 1>set on Twitter that in store Nintendo Switch preorders will <v Speaker 1>start when doors open on April twenty fourth. Online pre <v Speaker 1>orders will kick off that day at eleven am at <v Speaker 1>eleven am Eastern. The company also said that all stores <v Speaker 1>will open on June fifth at midnight twelve am Eastern <v Speaker 1>and then and on the West Coast, it's going to <v Speaker 1>open at nine pm the day before for console launch. <v Speaker 1>Lucky You're actually we might be in LA at that time, <v Speaker 1>So I'm like, should I should just pre. <v Speaker 2>Order in La? <v Speaker 3>You will be in LA at that time? <v Speaker 2>Am I might? If I get an online order, I <v Speaker 2>might just have it shipped to your house? Is that okay? <v Speaker 3>Yeah? <v Speaker 2>Okay, absolutely, get your address right now on the internet. <v Speaker 2>Let's go. Yeah. <v Speaker 3>I mean I'm going to just announce it to everybody. Yeah, <v Speaker 3>docs myself. <v Speaker 2>We'll see how it goes down. But that's there's a possibility. <v Speaker 3>I think y'all will be in LA. <v Speaker 2>It's it's almost certainly yes. <v Speaker 1>Targets Switch to pre orders will kick off on April <v Speaker 1>twenty fourth at midnight, according to a Targets. According to <v Speaker 1>the target's website, the pre order time applies to consoles, games, <v Speaker 1>and accessories. Walmart meanwhile says switch to pre orders will <v Speaker 1>begin on April twenty fourth at midnight. Company spokesperson la <v Speaker 1>Eli Stidham tells The Verge. Walmart's website also says that <v Speaker 1>you'll get your console before nine am on June fifth <v Speaker 1>if you pre order by June fourth at eight am <v Speaker 1>Eastern while supplies last, and then finally here. <v Speaker 2>Best Buy has not listed a. <v Speaker 1>Specific preorder time, but according to a post on its website, <v Speaker 1>preorders for the console, games and accessories will be available <v Speaker 1>on April twenty fourth. Via the best Buy mobile app <v Speaker 1>and best buy dot com. They asked best Buy what <v Speaker 1>time preorders will open. They have not heard back, but <v Speaker 1>best Buy has also said that most stores will open <v Speaker 1>for pre order pickup on June fifth at midnight. So <v Speaker 1>a lot of midnight launches. You know what, I can't <v Speaker 1>remember the last midnight launch I've been to. It is <v Speaker 1>approaching probably twenty years since I've been to a midnight launch. <v Speaker 2>Wow, it's like getting pretty close to that time. I <v Speaker 2>went to call for me or something like that. <v Speaker 4>Midnight launch or a midnight movie. It's just kind of <v Speaker 4>a thing of the past in a way, like the <v Speaker 4>physical in person launch. I actually to draw some parallels <v Speaker 4>here with my new obsession, which is PopMart. The twenty <v Speaker 4>fourth is when the new La Booboo three point zero <v Speaker 4>comes out, which is from the Monster's line, and so <v Speaker 4>I'm like, damn, the internet is going to break on <v Speaker 4>the twenty fourth. <v Speaker 1>I said, listen, I love hearing about this Popmark stuff. <v Speaker 1>But if La Boo Boo messes up my switch to preorders, <v Speaker 1>am I swear to god, we'll see, Okay. I am <v Speaker 1>trying to come up with a game plan here to <v Speaker 1>figure out the best course of action. I think I'll <v Speaker 1>try to pre order at online at best Buy and <v Speaker 1>maybe Walmart, and then I might also try to do <v Speaker 1>an in person pre order and see if I can <v Speaker 1>double my chances of making sure I get one, and <v Speaker 1>then you know, we'll see from there. If I do <v Speaker 1>get two, I probably would just give one to a <v Speaker 1>family member or something like that, so that'll be good <v Speaker 1>to have for the holidays as they approach. But likely <v Speaker 1>I'm gonna barely be able to get one if that, <v Speaker 1>Uh so gonna try to go with best Buy. I <v Speaker 1>think that seems that they. I just feel like out <v Speaker 1>of all those they will be the least trafficked for <v Speaker 1>some reason. <v Speaker 2>Maybe I'm right. <v Speaker 4>I have to tell you that I saw someone trying <v Speaker 4>to run a grift on PlayStation fives at a best. <v Speaker 2>Buy one time. Oh okay. <v Speaker 3>It was so funny because I had gone to. <v Speaker 4>Pick up a game, or maybe I was going to <v Speaker 4>pick up a switch or something like that. And this <v Speaker 4>is right when they started to actually have PS five's <v Speaker 4>in stock, and I. <v Speaker 3>Saw a guy in the store. Oh you lost, Oh no. <v Speaker 2>No, you're back for me. Now I could be good. <v Speaker 3>Cool cool Google. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, I was like, you were frozen for me for <v Speaker 4>a second and I just heard your voice. But anyway, <v Speaker 4>so I was saying about best Buy is I saw <v Speaker 4>this guy come into the best Buy and he was <v Speaker 4>in line and he got a PlayStation five. And then <v Speaker 4>he came back later and they have to scan alarady <v Speaker 4>and they're like, sir, you already purchased a PS five today, <v Speaker 4>you cannot have another one. Hmmm. <v Speaker 1>I I uh maybe best okay, Well, if they're on <v Speaker 1>top of it at best Buy, maybe that's not what <v Speaker 1>I want. I kind of want like them to be <v Speaker 1>half on top of it. So it's just like, I <v Speaker 1>feel like there'll be a mess, and if I have <v Speaker 1>the perseverance, I'll be able to push through and guarantee <v Speaker 1>a switch too. I'm I'm still very excited about the <v Speaker 1>system I did. This is embarrassing, have a dream about <v Speaker 1>playing it last night. So that's where I'm that. <v Speaker 4>I'm going to a press preview for a thing a <v Speaker 4>little before Summer Game Fest, and I'm like, oh, I <v Speaker 4>wonder if we'll be playing on switch toos. <v Speaker 1>I'm like, Nintendo has announced that they'll be a packs east, <v Speaker 1>but they often are, and I'm like, there a switch <v Speaker 1>to will be there. That would be fun for me <v Speaker 1>someone who would like to touch. <v Speaker 2>A switch too. Yeah, but we'll see. <v Speaker 1>Just glad that pre orders are happening this week. Glad <v Speaker 1>the price is not insane. Accessories did go up in price, <v Speaker 1>but honestly, that was felt like the best case scenario <v Speaker 1>in a lot of ways, even though. <v Speaker 2>Of course it still does suck. <v Speaker 1>They increase the price by like five dollars across the board, <v Speaker 1>so in not insane, but it feels bad. It feels <v Speaker 1>bad to be like, thank you for only raising the <v Speaker 1>price a little bit, mister. So yeah, that's where we're at. <v Speaker 1>I'm looking forward to this, would like to play Mario <v Speaker 1>Kart World real bad and looking forward to Donkey Kong Bonanza. <v Speaker 1>Well also I get you know, we'll try I mean midnight, <v Speaker 1>but I might stream us trying to get pre orders <v Speaker 1>and maybe we can all. <v Speaker 2>Do that. <v Speaker 3>So yeah, we can just have like a gang trying to. <v Speaker 1>Get pre orders, to get the orders and like working <v Speaker 1>together to you know, everyone can inform each other about <v Speaker 1>what what's happening where and. <v Speaker 2>Try to share best practices. <v Speaker 1>There are a lot there's a lot of information about <v Speaker 1>how to maximize your chances when you're trying to pre order, <v Speaker 1>and we'll kind of go over all that and do <v Speaker 1>our best. <v Speaker 2>All right, let's see here. <v Speaker 1>Sticking with switch to for a little bit, Nintendo brought <v Speaker 1>back Paul Rudd for a Switch two commercial. This is <v Speaker 1>from Andy Robinson at VGC. Nintendo has published a switch <v Speaker 1>to advert featuring actor Paul Rudd, three decades after he <v Speaker 1>appeared in a classic television spot for the Supernintendo. <v Speaker 2>The ant Man. <v Speaker 1>Star Rudd originally featured in an advert for the Super <v Speaker 1>Nintendo for its American launch in nineteen ninety one. Now <v Speaker 1>more than three decades later, almost thirty five years later, <v Speaker 1>Rudd has reunited with nint Nintendo for a new ad <v Speaker 1>mirroring the Super Nintendo. One step back into nineteen ninety <v Speaker 1>one and watch the official Super Nintendo Entertainment System launch <v Speaker 1>commercial featuring Paul Rudd. Nintendo said, three decades later, we're <v Speaker 1>back together again, but this time launching the Nintendo switch <v Speaker 1>to and they're you know, they put him in a wig, <v Speaker 1>so he looks like he has his like nineties long <v Speaker 1>hair a little bit, and he's got the same blazer <v Speaker 1>and shirt, and there's a fog machine and he walks <v Speaker 1>through and they have the same like Dutch angles that <v Speaker 1>they used in the nineties. <v Speaker 2>It's a fun time. <v Speaker 1>I remember, like over the weekend, I saw it and <v Speaker 1>I just put it in slack and I'm like, oh, <v Speaker 1>you know, maybe get to this on Monday Day and <v Speaker 1>Tom Caswell just don't jumped on it immediately, and that <v Speaker 1>the comparison that he did did. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. <v Speaker 2>By side, he's got like some like eight million views <v Speaker 2>on Instagram already or something like that. <v Speaker 1>So apparently Paul Rudd works Paul Rudd is a star <v Speaker 1>for your commercial. <v Speaker 4>He has made an entire career. Not that Paul Rudd <v Speaker 4>is not talented. Paul Rudd is talented. He's very charming, <v Speaker 4>he is very funny. He's made an entire career off <v Speaker 4>of being nice to work with. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I bet you know what, where's the phrase from, <v Speaker 2>like Kansas or whatever? Yeah, yeah, he is got that Midwest. <v Speaker 1>Charm in him that I think is makes him Uh yeah, <v Speaker 1>nice to work with us is probably the best way <v Speaker 1>to put it. So very very cool and very good <v Speaker 1>to hear that. I like Paul Rudd quite a bit. <v Speaker 1>I think he's very funny. <v Speaker 2>But yeah, this was It's a cute commercial. <v Speaker 1>It's also uh they do the fake online voice communication stuff, but. <v Speaker 2>They're he's doing it with Joe La Truglio, who. <v Speaker 3>Is I love and too. <v Speaker 1>Honestly, maybe more excited about Joel Truglio and this ac <v Speaker 1>than anything else. Ye, he's got the silver hair now, <v Speaker 1>he's looking like a silver fox. He's fantastic And both <v Speaker 1>of them are like from like wet hot American summer <v Speaker 1>and stuff like that. I'm just like they should get <v Speaker 1>the entire like the state and wet hot American cast <v Speaker 1>to just sell the switch to just appeal to older <v Speaker 1>millennials for some reason, like we weren't going to buy <v Speaker 1>this thing anyhow. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, exactly, this is actually for us. <v Speaker 2>Uh huh. <v Speaker 1>But hey, cool commercial, very fun. And again that's where <v Speaker 1>I'm at with the switch to everybody. It's embarrassing, but <v Speaker 1>I'm excited about an ad new Mario on Switch too. <v Speaker 1>Here's some maybe real news to talk about. Stay tuned, <v Speaker 1>says Nintendo of America president. This is from Chris Scullion <v Speaker 1>at VGC. Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser has reassured <v Speaker 1>players looking for a new Mario game on switch to <v Speaker 1>that it'll be coming. Many players were expecting to see <v Speaker 1>a new three D Mario game during the Nintendo Switch <v Speaker 1>to Direct earlier this month, given that the last entry, <v Speaker 1>Super Mario Odyssey, was released eight years ago. Instead, Nintendo <v Speaker 1>revealed Donkey Kong Bonanza, a three D platformer starring Donkey Kong, <v Speaker 1>which appears to use an engine similar to that of <v Speaker 1>Super Mario Odyssey, even if its development team remains a mystery. <v Speaker 2>It's the Mario team that's working on that. <v Speaker 1>In an interview with CNN, Bowser was asked about lack <v Speaker 1>of a main three D or two D Mario game <v Speaker 1>confirmed for the switch to, but Bowser suggested, again, that's <v Speaker 1>Doug Bowser, not Bowser the Villain suggested that fans simply <v Speaker 1>need to hold fire because one will eventually be on <v Speaker 1>the way. Stay tuned, he replied, you know, we have <v Speaker 1>a long, long catalog and a long list of properties <v Speaker 1>that I'm sure will make its way to the platform. <v Speaker 1>So not really him saying anything else other than of <v Speaker 1>course we're going to make a new Mario. But you know, <v Speaker 1>stay tuned does feel suggestive. It does feel like maybe <v Speaker 1>they're a Mario game will come sooner than we think <v Speaker 1>based on Hey, the Mario team's making this Donkey Kong game. <v Speaker 2>Am I go back to I think it was early <v Speaker 2>last year, like. <v Speaker 1>January of twenty twenty, for I think where Nintendo started <v Speaker 1>talking about their desire to work with more external partners, <v Speaker 1>more indie teams, but also just more like the way <v Speaker 1>that they work with like Namco or whatever. They said <v Speaker 1>they want to do that more so they can make <v Speaker 1>software more frequently and bigger and better and all this stuff. <v Speaker 1>So what are the chances you think that this Donkey <v Speaker 1>Kong Binanza game is in fact made by the three <v Speaker 1>D Mario team, but maybe it's made in conjunction with <v Speaker 1>another studio, and then Nintendo's doing a similar thing, so <v Speaker 1>it can spread that team out and make a Donkey <v Speaker 1>Kong Binanza here and then a new three D Mario <v Speaker 1>sort of in parallel by. <v Speaker 2>Like spreading out and working with more teams. You think <v Speaker 2>that's sort of thing, and it. <v Speaker 4>Seems very unlikely that they would let anybody work on <v Speaker 4>Mario that isn't the core Mario team. <v Speaker 2>Rye more likely a Donkey Kong could get that correct. <v Speaker 3>Exactly, That's what I'm saying. <v Speaker 4>So I think that you are correct that there was <v Speaker 4>probably involvement from the three D Mario team. <v Speaker 3>For sure. <v Speaker 4>The Donkey Kong game, I mean, Donkey Kong looks like <v Speaker 4>the secret sequel to Super Mario Odyssey. However, I do <v Speaker 4>think that again, because they had that established formula that <v Speaker 4>you can bring in people to work under the oversight <v Speaker 4>of some core team members from the Mario team, while <v Speaker 4>the rest of them are able to, you know, continue <v Speaker 4>to focus on what they make, which is Mario games. <v Speaker 4>So I do think that it would be extremely weird <v Speaker 4>if we didn't get a new Mario first party proprietary <v Speaker 4>mainline title on Nintendo's new console. <v Speaker 3>In the semi immediate future. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I think so. <v Speaker 1>Like looking back at Bowser's Fury, which is the real <v Speaker 1>last three D Mario game, as much as it's a <v Speaker 1>weird release, sin it'ce a half release and so it's <v Speaker 1>something smaller you can only get it with another remastered game. <v Speaker 1>It was made by Entertainment, Planning and Development Department of <v Speaker 1>five I think is the Mario team, and they but <v Speaker 1>they did work with a support studio that I'm sure <v Speaker 1>like was helping them with the technology, and it was <v Speaker 1>a Nintendo Software technology and one. <v Speaker 2>Up studio or the support studios on Bowser's Fury. <v Speaker 1>So like maybe that relationship, you know, Budded and Bloomed <v Speaker 1>and those maybe those teams are taking not the lead, <v Speaker 1>but a bulk of the development for Donkey Kong Bonanza <v Speaker 1>because they had this close relationship and that freed up <v Speaker 1>the core EPD five team to go in the direction <v Speaker 1>of and let's get to work on Mario. And that's <v Speaker 1>not even just like to point out like this Donkey <v Speaker 1>Kong Bonanza game could have been development for a very <v Speaker 1>long time. <v Speaker 2>It could have been done for quite some time. <v Speaker 1>I you know, I'm guessing, but I get the sense <v Speaker 1>that this is something they maybe were thinking about pairing <v Speaker 1>originally with the Nintendo Switch Pro several years ago. And <v Speaker 1>you know, of course then it would have still came <v Speaker 1>out to the Nintendo Switch, but. <v Speaker 2>But like it seemed like that kind of gaming. <v Speaker 1>They're like, actually, you know what, let's hold off, Let's <v Speaker 1>make this the launch game for the Switch to and <v Speaker 1>by doing that, we have something ready to go and <v Speaker 1>we can get to work on the next three Mario <v Speaker 1>game and have that ready for let's say, you know, <v Speaker 1>twenty twenty six or something like that. <v Speaker 2>That it all feels pretty plausible. <v Speaker 1>They they know the value of Mario's as high as <v Speaker 1>it's ever been. It like coming off that movie, coming <v Speaker 1>off of Super Nintendo World, and yeah, them building more <v Speaker 1>Super Nintendo Worlds everywhere and just being like, hey, like <v Speaker 1>we want to have merch and movies and games that <v Speaker 1>capitalize on people's love of Mario. They're not going to <v Speaker 1>go several more years without a big game Mario's on <v Speaker 1>the Switch to. <v Speaker 3>No, No, they're not. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, man, there's a Donkey Kong roller coaster in the Florida. <v Speaker 4>Mario Super Nintendo World. It actually a super Nintendo World. <v Speaker 4>It's not just Mario, that's right, this is what we <v Speaker 4>have in La. <v Speaker 1>Man. <v Speaker 3>Oh yeah, movies coming out, Yeah they are. <v Speaker 4>There's certainly a three D Mario that is more done <v Speaker 4>than not. <v Speaker 3>For the Switch too, there has to be. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, the next Mario movie is uh is next <v Speaker 1>April according to Chat I was, I couldn't remember. It <v Speaker 1>was twenty twenty six or twenty seven, but twenty twenty <v Speaker 1>six cents right, So yeah, you know, given that those <v Speaker 1>those circumstances, that circumstantial evidence, and I think we can <v Speaker 1>work backwards a little bit of like, Okay, how does <v Speaker 1>it make sense for them to get a Mario game <v Speaker 1>out next year? Mario Wonder from the two D team <v Speaker 1>kind of maybe too fresh? Although when not gonna be <v Speaker 1>surprised at all when a Super Mario Brothers Wonder Nintendo <v Speaker 1>Switch two edition gets released, you know, early next year <v Speaker 1>or whatever. But then a real new three D Mario <v Speaker 1>game ready to go in time for the movie. Yeah <v Speaker 1>that sounds right to me. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, that's that seems very plausible. <v Speaker 2>All right. Fortnite will be on switch to on launch day. <v Speaker 1>Just worth pointing out this is a native version, and <v Speaker 1>I guess I'm just still not used to seeing these numbers, <v Speaker 1>which was. <v Speaker 2>Why why I am including it. <v Speaker 1>Emma, It's going to be ten ADP in one hundred <v Speaker 1>and twenty frames per second in one mode when it's handheld, <v Speaker 1>and then it could support up to four K in <v Speaker 1>docted mode. I'm I'm just I guess going into the <v Speaker 1>switch too, I knew it'd be able to output four <v Speaker 1>K to like, you know, connect to a four K <v Speaker 1>TV and speak to a TV in four K. I <v Speaker 1>was never really expecting Nintendo and all its partners to <v Speaker 1>frequently be saying the game is going to be, you know, <v Speaker 1>running in four K, whatever that that actually means, and <v Speaker 1>kind of promoting that as a resolution that these games support. Now, <v Speaker 1>obviously there a lot of them are going to be <v Speaker 1>using upscaling techniques to get to four K, but so <v Speaker 1>does every console, so that that's not really that much <v Speaker 1>of a difference. So it's just wild to be like, oh, again, <v Speaker 1>the switch to this little handheld thing, they're talking about <v Speaker 1>four K. <v Speaker 2>I'm sure de oss is going to. <v Speaker 1>Help a lot with that, but yeah, it does feel <v Speaker 1>like this thing is maybe a little bit more powerful <v Speaker 1>than I was expecting. <v Speaker 2>How about you, Emma. <v Speaker 4>You know, I actually think that it is about what <v Speaker 4>I was expecting. I didn't expect it to natively run <v Speaker 4>four K like on your little screen, certainly, but yeah, <v Speaker 4>I mean I was like, they have to be working <v Speaker 4>on outputting four K and sixty frames per second even, <v Speaker 4>I mean one hundred and twenty. <v Speaker 2>Is you know a bonus? <v Speaker 3>That's that's too. <v Speaker 4>That's too many frames for me personally. But for those <v Speaker 4>of you that like that, I'm so happy for you. <v Speaker 3>It's just the games I play don't need that, no. <v Speaker 4>But but yeah, I mean again, it's like it being <v Speaker 4>able to output four K I definitely thought was top <v Speaker 4>of mind for them. The being able to support one <v Speaker 4>hundred and twenty frames per second was surprising to me, <v Speaker 4>I will say that. But the four K part I <v Speaker 4>was like, yeah, I mean even Nintendo has to know that. <v Speaker 4>That's just something people expect from their consoles now, yep. <v Speaker 1>And it's nice that Nintendo's actually kind of meeting those <v Speaker 1>ex expectations, something I didn't necessarily think it would do. Now, <v Speaker 1>you know that, I think that does lead into some <v Speaker 1>of the criticisms that people have had, which you know, <v Speaker 1>are I think are very mild, but they're and they <v Speaker 1>do come from a place of am I gonna like <v Speaker 1>this thing as much as I like my Switch one? <v Speaker 1>But people, oh, they're kind of talking about power and <v Speaker 1>not talking about all the weird quirks that make a <v Speaker 1>previous Nintendo console so interesting. But I just think that <v Speaker 1>continues to be the right move, and Nintendo can get <v Speaker 1>creative with the software and the hardware being good enough <v Speaker 1>that most developers aren't pulling out their hair, And that <v Speaker 1>seems to be what we keep hearing from studios, at <v Speaker 1>least so far. They're like, they're like, no, we knew <v Speaker 1>what this thing is going to be, and this is <v Speaker 1>kind of a very good version of what we knew <v Speaker 1>it would be. And say, Okay, that's nice to hear <v Speaker 1>and gives me faith that this thing will get decent <v Speaker 1>support for a very long time. Yeah, all right, let's <v Speaker 1>stick with the switch to just a little bit longer. <v Speaker 1>Cyberpunk twenty seventy seven on switch To uses d LSS <v Speaker 1>And then that's confirmed by CD Project read Richard ledbetter <v Speaker 1>over Digital Foundry kind of did along right up on <v Speaker 1>all of this and talked to CD Project Red got <v Speaker 1>confirmation and CD Project Reds said, we're using a version <v Speaker 1>of DLSS available for Nintendo switch To hardware powered by <v Speaker 1>Nvidious tensor cores. The game utilizes DLSS in all four modes, <v Speaker 1>in handheld and docked, and the performance and quality variations <v Speaker 1>of each. So the game is going to have a performance. <v Speaker 2>Mode and a. <v Speaker 1>Visual fidelity mode, and in the lower frame rate versions <v Speaker 1>could be thirty frames per second and performance, and it's <v Speaker 1>going to go to forty frames per second, And the <v Speaker 1>idea would be the screen on the handheld will update <v Speaker 1>a one hundred and twenty frames per second, and then every <v Speaker 1>three of those hurts you'll get a new frame from <v Speaker 1>the game, which forty frames per second actually does look <v Speaker 1>significantly smoother than thirty frames per second. You know, it's <v Speaker 1>thirty three percent more frames per second or whatever. <v Speaker 2>And so I think that's a pretty good compromise. <v Speaker 1>And this is mostly noteworthy though, Emma, because no game <v Speaker 1>has confirmed that it uses d LS on switch to <v Speaker 1>so far. I'm like of the opinion still, and I <v Speaker 1>could be wrong. This is a guess, but I am <v Speaker 1>of the opinion that I bet just about every game <v Speaker 1>is using DLSS in some way, because I bet it's <v Speaker 1>just built into the system at a core level, right, well, <v Speaker 1>one hundred percent. <v Speaker 4>I mean, it really does connect to the exact conversation <v Speaker 4>we were having about the switch being able to output four K. <v Speaker 4>It doesn't natively run four K, but with DLSS it <v Speaker 4>can upscale to four K. If you are playing on <v Speaker 4>a monitor, this sport's four K. So again it's yeah, <v Speaker 4>that look nobody confirming it, sure, but that's certainly what's <v Speaker 4>going on. <v Speaker 1>Yep, yeah, I so, I mean I get that the <v Speaker 1>people are like waiting to find out more. Also, like, <v Speaker 1>this is a version of DLSS, very likely that is <v Speaker 1>proprietary to the switch too. It probably works with it's hardware. <v Speaker 1>It's probably built specifically for that. The implementation in the <v Speaker 1>software development kit is probably specific to that hardware. So <v Speaker 1>the characteristics of d LSS that we might see on <v Speaker 1>other platforms could look different on the switch too. So <v Speaker 1>there's still a lot of unanswered questions about it. And <v Speaker 1>I suppose, as always shoot up, the DSS is just <v Speaker 1>an upscaling technology. The game can run it a lower <v Speaker 1>resolution so it can run at a higher frame rate, <v Speaker 1>and then DLSS does a little bit of math to <v Speaker 1>upscale it to make it look like the seven to <v Speaker 1>twenty P image is actually a four K image. <v Speaker 2>And so on. Yeah, I bet we're going to see that. <v Speaker 1>A lot of games actually have already been using it <v Speaker 1>and we just didn't know, or maybe a lot of <v Speaker 1>the trailers in the direct didn't have DLSS turnos, they <v Speaker 1>didn't have the latest uh uh you know, firmware or <v Speaker 1>whatever from Nvidia and Nintendo, and that stuff will be <v Speaker 1>a new trailers going forward. Yep, all right, Oh yeah, <v Speaker 1>someone did mention here that uhh yeah, all these modes <v Speaker 1>and quality settings feels anathema to Nintendo's messaging of purity. <v Speaker 2>Uh, anathma. <v Speaker 1>Right, That's why I wanted to read it at mento <v Speaker 1>and chat. Yeah, I for sure, I think it is <v Speaker 1>a little bit weird. I'm it doesn't really affect me <v Speaker 1>too much because it's a third party Yeah, I. <v Speaker 4>Mean, look, yes, it does feel like it is very <v Speaker 4>out of character for Nintendo and your game was meant <v Speaker 4>to run at this frame rate and be seen this way. <v Speaker 3>However, we're not. <v Speaker 4>Saying anything about Nintendo's proprietary titles here. We're very specifically <v Speaker 4>talking about Cyberpunk twenty seventy seven and other third party <v Speaker 4>titles here. <v Speaker 3>This is you know, a City Project Red thing. <v Speaker 4>So I think that, you know, while Nintendo can continue <v Speaker 4>to be extremely precious about its own ip, it is <v Speaker 4>working with a lot of or you know, welcoming third <v Speaker 4>party devs basically to have their games on their system <v Speaker 4>and in order for them to, you know, basically, if <v Speaker 4>things run well enough on the Switch to that it <v Speaker 4>doesn't look so different from running it on your PlayStation <v Speaker 4>five or on your PC or whatever the case may be, <v Speaker 4>then that's just more market for Nintendo to a corner, <v Speaker 4>because again the advantage of the Switch has always had <v Speaker 4>is that it is a handheld and it is a <v Speaker 4>console that you can just you know, plug into your TV. <v Speaker 4>And I think that, you know, being deeply entrenched within gaming, <v Speaker 4>we tend to underestimate the number of people for whom <v Speaker 4>just the fact that they can plug their Switch into <v Speaker 4>their TV and it's ready to go is incredibly advantageous. <v Speaker 3>And so if it is able to. <v Speaker 4>Essentially mimic well enough what these more powerful consoles are doing, <v Speaker 4>then there's no reason for people to buy the more <v Speaker 4>powerful consoles, and Nintendo continues to hold that part of <v Speaker 4>the market. <v Speaker 2>Yep. <v Speaker 1>And I think that you know, when you get to <v Speaker 1>games like Metroid Prime for Beyond, which also you know, <v Speaker 1>I guess it's a Nintendo first party that has these <v Speaker 1>these options, but that's you know, it's a cross gen game. <v Speaker 1>And I think as you get into the options of <v Speaker 1>like one hundred and twenty frames per second, like the <v Speaker 1>high refresh rate and four K, and you're like, okay, well, <v Speaker 1>you know we're going to put this game that is <v Speaker 1>a switch one game onto switch to to take advantage <v Speaker 1>of the you know, BF or hardware and to take <v Speaker 1>advantage of the better HDMI connection. So let's go ahead <v Speaker 1>and just give it one hundred and twenty frames per second. Well, <v Speaker 1>not everyone's going to have one hundred and twenty hrtz <v Speaker 1>television or support that or care about that, and so <v Speaker 1>it's like, well, we still have this overhead, this power <v Speaker 1>that we could be using. Let's give them the option. <v Speaker 1>If they want to do one hundred and twenty frames <v Speaker 1>per second, they can do that, or if they want <v Speaker 1>to do four K, they can do that. So I <v Speaker 1>just think this is them naturally processing the opportunities that <v Speaker 1>they have. And then I still think the bulk of <v Speaker 1>Nintendo's first party teams will just offer a pure, pure <v Speaker 1>answer to like what the game should run like, and <v Speaker 1>then leaving other developers free to make those choices for themselves. <v Speaker 1>That's the right answer, clearly. All right, let's see here. <v Speaker 1>Let's take a quick break. When we come back. There's <v Speaker 1>that new Star Wars game got confirmed. Renting PF Five's <v Speaker 1>is a popular thing in Japan. <v Speaker 2>Apparently. <v Speaker 1>We'll talk about all of that right after this. All right, <v Speaker 1>let's get back into it. Jeff Grubb, Emma Fife, Game <v Speaker 1>breaking news. <v Speaker 2>Let's do this. <v Speaker 1>Star Wars Zero Company, a turn based game at the <v Speaker 1>end of the Clone Wars, gets its full reveal. This <v Speaker 1>is from Maddy Myers at Polygon. Star Wars Zero Company, <v Speaker 1>which one might colloquially, collequially call or refer to as <v Speaker 1>the XCOM Star Wars game or z Com, got a <v Speaker 1>full reveal today at a panel at Star Wars celebration <v Speaker 1>in Japan. As for why one might refer to the <v Speaker 1>game in that way, it's because Greg Forstag, Yeah, I <v Speaker 1>think it's four Stitch, the CEO and creative director at <v Speaker 1>bit Reactor, which is the studio making the game, previously <v Speaker 1>worked on multiple major turn based games at for Axis, <v Speaker 1>including the New X or the previous Xcom Games. This <v Speaker 1>is you know, we kind of got this confirmed previously, <v Speaker 1>we knew it was coming. <v Speaker 2>Uh, They've said that it was coming for years now. <v Speaker 1>Then we finally like gave us some key art last week, <v Speaker 1>and now they've had a like cinematic trailer, a panel <v Speaker 1>they talked about. I think Lucy James uh had was <v Speaker 1>actually on that panel and talked to she moderated it. <v Speaker 2>Very cool. Uh. Overall, I'm I think this is a <v Speaker 2>very exciting game. Glad to see it. <v Speaker 1>Glad this is not one of the Star Wars games <v Speaker 1>getting canceled by EA. <v Speaker 3>I totally agree. <v Speaker 4>I love a Star Wars single player experience, and yeah, <v Speaker 4>I like that again that you know they're they're committing <v Speaker 4>to this being a single player strategy game, and we <v Speaker 4>haven't seen that from a Star War in a video game. <v Speaker 4>I'm trying to think if ever, If so, it's been <v Speaker 4>a really long time. <v Speaker 3>So yeah, I mean this is great. <v Speaker 1>I think that it also seems to have a pretty <v Speaker 1>good tone and vibe. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, you know, it's it's it. <v Speaker 1>There is that Star Wars Hunter's game from Zinga that <v Speaker 1>was a lot of a lot of fun. I have <v Speaker 1>zero issues with it, but I think it's it's a <v Speaker 1>jokey Fortnite presentation probably turned off a lot of people. <v Speaker 2>This seems to be like, you know, let's take. <v Speaker 1>It a little bit seriously, and they kind of make <v Speaker 1>it feel like what if there really was this team <v Speaker 1>in these small skirmishes, what would they be comprised of? <v Speaker 1>But it's like there's cool looking there's a Jedi or <v Speaker 1>someone with a lightsaber at very least, and there's a <v Speaker 1>cool looking droid that looks like they're like, looks pretty tough, <v Speaker 1>And I'm like, yeah, this seems like something I'm in <v Speaker 1>the mood for. Although I expect if it is like Xcom, <v Speaker 1>you'll probably have a large cast of characters, maybe even <v Speaker 1>a little bit of custom characters that you could bring <v Speaker 1>in there. So yeah, yeah, love love me Xcom and <v Speaker 1>really looking forward to this. I think Bitreactor getting a <v Speaker 1>chance to, like, you know, get started, make its own <v Speaker 1>stuff and be able to go right back to that genre, <v Speaker 1>something that not a lot of other major studios are <v Speaker 1>working with. <v Speaker 2>Pretty exciting. Yeah, all right, let's see here. <v Speaker 1>Renting PS fives is proving extremely popular in Japan, with <v Speaker 1>most stores selling out. This is from Jordan Midler at <v Speaker 1>VGC renting PS fives in Japan is reportedly extremely popular, <v Speaker 1>with most stores at capacity. Japanese retailer GEO has told <v Speaker 1>IT Media news that the service, which the company began <v Speaker 1>earlier this year, has been more popular than they expected. <v Speaker 1>The service was originally launched due to the limited availability <v Speaker 1>of the PS five service, which is provided by four <v Speaker 1>hundred stores across Japan. Let's players rent a PS five <v Speaker 1>console for either eight days for nine hundred and eighty en, <v Speaker 1>which is about six dollars and seventy cents, or fifteen <v Speaker 1>days for the equivalent of about twelve dollars before returning <v Speaker 1>it to the store. GEO claims that the release of <v Speaker 1>Monster Hunter Wilds, a series that has always been extremely <v Speaker 1>popular in Japan, has spurred the success of the service. <v Speaker 1>Well Sony isn't actively involved in the program, GEO claims <v Speaker 1>it had deep discussions with the platform holder ahead of <v Speaker 1>the launch of the rental program. You know, I think <v Speaker 1>this goes back to the the price increases in Japan, <v Speaker 1>which have happened a couple times. I think for the <v Speaker 1>PS five it's still very expensive there. I think there's <v Speaker 1>also you know, you look at the sales chart in <v Speaker 1>Japan and it's like the PS five sells Okay, it's <v Speaker 1>pretty good. Actually, it's not the fastest selling Sony console. <v Speaker 1>I think PS four did very well, but the PS two obviously, <v Speaker 1>this was a massive success there, but like the games <v Speaker 1>never sell a ton and I think maybe this helps <v Speaker 1>with that. If you can get more people feeling comfortable <v Speaker 1>about getting a PS five at a reasonable price for <v Speaker 1>like the two weeks that they want to play a <v Speaker 1>new game, probably may probably makes it a little bit <v Speaker 1>easier for those people to buy software and then one <v Speaker 1>day get a PS five for real, if they are <v Speaker 1>feeling like, Okay, now I have a library of games <v Speaker 1>I want to play, and now I can justify getting <v Speaker 1>the system and actually purchasing it seems like a you know, <v Speaker 1>an inelegant solution. But uh, but I guess I'm surprised <v Speaker 1>it's so popular. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, So I think that some of it comes down <v Speaker 4>to what you were explaining there in terms of how <v Speaker 4>much the yen is equivalent to the US dollar at <v Speaker 4>the at the moment, this is very tentative. <v Speaker 3>This is all going to change, but what the yen. <v Speaker 4>Is very weak right now, and so as somebody who's <v Speaker 4>you know, traveled in Japan, the last two years. It's <v Speaker 4>shocking actually how long how far your money goes, because <v Speaker 4>when I first went to Japan in twenty ten, it <v Speaker 4>was like one hundred yen was I think a little <v Speaker 4>more than a dollar nownred And now one hundred yen <v Speaker 4>is like sixty nine sense, and so that really adds <v Speaker 4>up very quickly. And again it like to us it <v Speaker 4>sounds like, oh, that's a really good deal, but you <v Speaker 4>have to think of it for them as like it <v Speaker 4>still is more like nine dollars, which again still a <v Speaker 4>really good deal. But you know, that is part of <v Speaker 4>the reason why, like the rental system definitely makes sense, <v Speaker 4>and especially given the fact that you know, PlayStation five <v Speaker 4>is still definitely the console that gets the most exclusives <v Speaker 4>and so and also Japan is a country that, even <v Speaker 4>though yes they are getting more into the PC market, <v Speaker 4>it is still very largely run on consoles. So again, <v Speaker 4>when you're in a position where okay, well, there's all <v Speaker 4>these games that I can run on my PS four, <v Speaker 4>I'm not going to buy a PS five because everything's <v Speaker 4>working just finally console that I already have. But then <v Speaker 4>something you come up against something that is only on <v Speaker 4>the PS five, and so you go, yeah, if you <v Speaker 4>have the rental option, why wouldn't you rent instead of purchasing. <v Speaker 4>If there's like one specific game that you want to play, <v Speaker 4>and you rent it for that two week period and <v Speaker 4>you're able to focus on playing it for those two weeks, <v Speaker 4>and then you know, in some cases it's like, oh okay, <v Speaker 4>you finish it, or say it is like a Monster <v Speaker 4>Hunter Wilds and you want to keep playing it. Then <v Speaker 4>you're in the position of going, okay, well do I <v Speaker 4>want to buy a PlayStation or not? But yeah, I <v Speaker 4>mean everything nowadays. I mean, you know, PlayStation was revolutionary <v Speaker 4>even in the nineties at its launch when because you know, <v Speaker 4>we rented PlayStation games all the time. I rented a PlayStation, yeah, <v Speaker 4>all the time, because all you needed to have was <v Speaker 4>a memory card, right, And now all you need is <v Speaker 4>like a PlayStation account and all of your data is <v Speaker 4>just in the cloud, you know, like I can log on, <v Speaker 4>I can. <v Speaker 3>Have my resident Evil for save file on Plus. <v Speaker 2>Right is Plus is where the cloud saves are. I can't. <v Speaker 2>I can't keep it strikes, I can't. <v Speaker 3>I'm not sure. <v Speaker 4>You know, I'm in a very fortunate position that I <v Speaker 4>need to have a PlayStation Plus account for my job. <v Speaker 4>But still, again, like PlayStation was always ahead of the <v Speaker 4>curb in terms of your data being transferable. So yeah, okay, <v Speaker 4>so you do pay for cloud saves on Sony. <v Speaker 2>But again I don't know if you're you need PS <v Speaker 2>plus as well. <v Speaker 4>So yeah, yeah, exactly, And if that's all you're paying for, <v Speaker 4>you're not paying, you know, the five hundred plus dollars <v Speaker 4>for the console itself. Uh. And I don't know what <v Speaker 4>the game rental market looks like, but theoretically PlayStation does <v Speaker 4>have you know, PS five has a disk drive. <v Speaker 3>There's versions of PS five of the disk drive. <v Speaker 4>And if we're talking about renting a disk drive PS five, <v Speaker 4>can you also rent the game. <v Speaker 3>So basically you're paying for the data and that's it. <v Speaker 1>I I think what you know, what this really speaks to, right, <v Speaker 1>is that people do want to be playing these games, <v Speaker 1>and they want to be playing it, you know, on <v Speaker 1>a PlayStation, but they don't want to buy a console. <v Speaker 2>And so all of. <v Speaker 1>This this work to get cloud streaming up and running, <v Speaker 1>it's like there's clearly something there. It's just there's a <v Speaker 1>hump that they they have not been able to get <v Speaker 1>over to convince people that that is a. <v Speaker 2>Viable and reasonable way. <v Speaker 1>And like, honestly, it's if I wanted to start with, like, hey, <v Speaker 1>I want to play Monster Hunter Wilds, what would I <v Speaker 1>have to do to be able to cloud stream that <v Speaker 1>to myself? Okay, I actually don't even know where to start. <v Speaker 1>If it's like through PlayStation stuff, I guess I could <v Speaker 1>do it on in Nvidia the game streaming thing that <v Speaker 1>Nvidia has, I could figure that out probably, So Okay, <v Speaker 1>maybe that's the hump is is it's just a little <v Speaker 1>bit awkward and nebulous this concept. But renting a PlayStation <v Speaker 1>that's very easy to understand, even if like there is <v Speaker 1>quirks to it of like do you need a PlayStation <v Speaker 1>plus a can out like should I buy the game? <v Speaker 2>Do I rent the games from you and then get <v Speaker 2>it back? And then where's where's my save go? Can <v Speaker 2>I keep it on you? <v Speaker 4>Yeah? <v Speaker 3>Stick, yeah, yeah exactly. <v Speaker 4>And again it's like on top of the fact that yes, <v Speaker 4>you can be paying for that data to do cloud <v Speaker 4>saves on the PlayStation, it still has the ability to <v Speaker 4>you know, it's not a memory card but like or <v Speaker 4>as as simple as the old memory card system where <v Speaker 4>everything was just naturally saved there, but like my data <v Speaker 4>is all on an SSD. <v Speaker 3>Yep, I'm not that kind of space on my PlayStation, like, <v Speaker 3>you know. <v Speaker 1>I just it's clearly that there is an opportunity if <v Speaker 1>you can find a way to get these games to <v Speaker 1>these people without requiring them to spend five hundred dollars <v Speaker 1>in up on new hardware. There's a lot of people <v Speaker 1>out there ready to go. But uh, you know, instead <v Speaker 1>the console keeps getting more expensive. It's going in the <v Speaker 1>opposite direction, so it kind of feels like they're getting <v Speaker 1>further away from solving that problem. All right, Let's see here, <v Speaker 1>Assassin's Creed Shadows maybe coming to Nintendo's switch tow according <v Speaker 1>to a new rating. This is from Chris Scullion at <v Speaker 1>VGC Sasu's Crewed Shadows could be coming to Nintendo switch <v Speaker 1>To according to a Peggy rating. Peggy given an M <v Speaker 1>rating and mentions it's for PlayStation five, Xbox Series X <v Speaker 1>and SPC and Nintendo switch to. <v Speaker 2>Yeah. <v Speaker 1>I think I think we're at a point where all <v Speaker 1>third party, all big third party games for the most part, <v Speaker 1>will come to switch to. And I think most games, <v Speaker 1>you know, for as much as they are beginning to <v Speaker 1>move on from PlayStation four and Xbox one. Switch To <v Speaker 1>is really in between as much as like the the <v Speaker 1>hardware on paper as a PS four, I think the <v Speaker 1>memory band with the faster storage speed, the better CPU <v Speaker 1>just makes it so much more like less of a <v Speaker 1>hassle to actually port games to that than it would <v Speaker 1>be to the last gen consoles, And you'd be soft <v Speaker 1>as a history of supporting new hardware, so that this <v Speaker 1>one doesn't surprise me. I expect we'll probably get this <v Speaker 1>by the end of the year on switch To, and <v Speaker 1>and I think that's a good fit for that kind <v Speaker 1>of game. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, absolutely, Yeah. <v Speaker 4>Again, you know, we've discussed the fact that we're all <v Speaker 4>very happy for you, suffed and they needed a win, <v Speaker 4>uh and this is just enough of a win that <v Speaker 4>I'm feeling good for them, and I yeah, it's kind <v Speaker 4>of an overrainer to me that this would be. <v Speaker 1>On switch to, right if if their strategy really is <v Speaker 1>all Assassin's Creed all the time, which is yeah, basically <v Speaker 1>what they're saying. The fact that the most recent Assassin's <v Speaker 1>Creed worked is necessary and good for them, although I <v Speaker 1>think the game O family should still move on. Uh <v Speaker 1>all right, last headline I have here rematch is going <v Speaker 1>to be very popular. Have you heard about this game, <v Speaker 1>Emma Rematch Rematch? It's it's okay, imagine Rocket League but <v Speaker 1>with people. <v Speaker 2>That's yeah, see. <v Speaker 4>It's people who can also like run on the walls. <v Speaker 3>Okay, well they can't do that, all right, Okay, okay, okay. <v Speaker 1>It's from the people that made Seafu. So everyone's calling <v Speaker 1>it fIF they're calling it fifu. Yes, so that's pretty good. <v Speaker 1>And it's it's very it is very much. It's a joke, <v Speaker 1>but also the way the perspective works, the way the <v Speaker 1>game functions, it is Rocket League with people. So the <v Speaker 1>camera follows you around as you play as one player <v Speaker 1>like the entire like basically each round and the round <v Speaker 1>to be like between goals. <v Speaker 2>I think it rotates you. So it's like, well, now <v Speaker 2>you're the goalie, so you. <v Speaker 1>Should stay back and be the goalie and you can <v Speaker 1>use your hands and stuff like that, and now we're <v Speaker 1>gonna swap you around. Now you're going to be a <v Speaker 1>striker or something like that. So it's different from like <v Speaker 1>goal to goal, but you play as that character, you <v Speaker 1>run around you there's other people on your team. <v Speaker 2>It's five y five and it looks really good. <v Speaker 1>Seafoo is known for having excellent fighting animations, and they've <v Speaker 1>just adapted that to soccer and it looks really cool. <v Speaker 2>I was going to try to play it last week <v Speaker 2>for UPF, but we had a scheduling thing got in <v Speaker 2>the way. <v Speaker 3>And it's like goof It's goofy like Rocket League. <v Speaker 4>Right, it's not like a serious soccer. <v Speaker 1>Rules it's you know, it's not like a FIFA street <v Speaker 1>or something from a BAK back in the day. But <v Speaker 1>it's also it's not like a hardcore sim it's you know, <v Speaker 1>it's it's not even trying to be like professional soccer. <v Speaker 2>It's this is not the Premier League. <v Speaker 1>The ball bounces off the wall, doesn't go out of bounds, <v Speaker 1>and it bounces back into play, and it's very much <v Speaker 1>like an arena soccer thing, which is inherently a little <v Speaker 1>bit the goofier I suppose, but it does at the <v Speaker 1>same time taking it more seriously than Rocket League. <v Speaker 2>Now it's working. <v Speaker 1>The game had a beta over the weekend that you <v Speaker 1>could basically go on Steam cook a button, Hey I <v Speaker 1>want to be a part. <v Speaker 2>Of this beta, and they live then they invite you in. <v Speaker 2>A lot of people did that. <v Speaker 1>It had a peak concurrent player account yesterday of one <v Speaker 1>hundred and thirty three thousand people, which is massive, Like <v Speaker 1>that is more than most new big Triple A game <v Speaker 1>releases get you know, trying to remember like several years ago, <v Speaker 1>I think like Cyberpunk had like eighty thousand or something <v Speaker 1>at its launch. <v Speaker 2>So this is just for the beta. <v Speaker 1>The game is out June sixteenth, that's for the early access, <v Speaker 1>and then June nineteenth is its release state for everybody. <v Speaker 2>That is a big number. <v Speaker 1>So and I you know, everyone that's playing it saying <v Speaker 1>kind of nice things and they're having a good time. <v Speaker 1>I think this is going to be the next big <v Speaker 1>online multiplayer hit. It feels like it really is prime <v Speaker 1>to do that. <v Speaker 3>Nice. Yeah. <v Speaker 4>I mean, look, I like any online multiplayer hit that <v Speaker 4>is something other than a Battle Royale or a Capture <v Speaker 4>the Flag or a everybody shoot each other in general <v Speaker 4>kind of thing. So I'm for it. If we're bringing <v Speaker 4>football to the to the big time with the with <v Speaker 4>the grown not that they're aren't grown ups who play <v Speaker 4>Rocket League, but it's just you know, I have a <v Speaker 4>flashback to when we were at dream Hack and they <v Speaker 4>had these promos with these like twelve year old children <v Speaker 4>that one of them did this, yes, And I was like, no, <v Speaker 4>I don't want to know what your secret is. <v Speaker 3>Nine year old, thank you so much. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, just keep it to yourself. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, keep that to yourself please. But yeah, this is yeah, <v Speaker 3>this is cool. <v Speaker 2>Like the art style yep, it's uh, looks pretty cool. <v Speaker 1>It looks like a lot of fun, and it's like <v Speaker 1>it's just such an easy concept, right, go score a goal. <v Speaker 1>I think that's when you're talking about multiplayer games. The <v Speaker 1>simpler the concept. <v Speaker 2>The better. <v Speaker 1>And then and then the exact opposite true, the more <v Speaker 1>convoluted and more of an extraction shooter you are. <v Speaker 2>You got to be one of the extremes. You can't <v Speaker 2>be somewhere. Yah. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, all right, that does it for the headlines. <v Speaker 2>Let's get to the poll question from last week. I mean, <v Speaker 2>we're fresh here so I could see it on my side. <v Speaker 2>Did we get one post to jan? I can't remember. Uh, <v Speaker 2>let's see here. It looks like you have it all right. <v Speaker 1>Let me okay, let me fresh one more time. Wow, oh, <v Speaker 1>I see what's happening here. I am just actually in <v Speaker 1>the page itself. Okay, didn't justify eighty dollars Marty Kart <v Speaker 1>World to you yes, no, or I don't know, but <v Speaker 1>I'm buying it. <v Speaker 2>That's the one I went with. Ten percent, I don't know, <v Speaker 2>but I'm buying it. <v Speaker 1>Well, so thirty percent of respondents are also in that category. <v Speaker 1>Ten percent said yes, they did justify it, and sixty <v Speaker 1>percent said no. Yeah. I am looking forward to seeing <v Speaker 1>how this game like butts up against this, because you know, <v Speaker 1>it's just true. You raise the price on something and <v Speaker 1>you inherently price more people out. <v Speaker 2>So they've raised the price. <v Speaker 1>Let's see how many more people they price out. It's <v Speaker 1>going to be hard to tell at first rate, Emma, <v Speaker 1>because every switch to is going to probably sell with <v Speaker 1>this game for quite some time, and that's going to <v Speaker 1>be the most diehard of the audience. <v Speaker 2>Why did I say it, like die hardman? <v Speaker 1>Yeah, hard of Yeah, let's put the emphasis on different <v Speaker 1>cell hours every time. And but once we get like <v Speaker 1>into twenty twenty six, and we'd like begin come piring <v Speaker 1>Mario Kart World to Mario Kart eight DeLux, which is like, <v Speaker 1>just ay, every quarter this thing is selling a million <v Speaker 1>more copies. <v Speaker 2>Is Mario Kart World going to do that? We'll see. <v Speaker 1>I think there's a strong chance that this price could <v Speaker 1>be a major drag on it, but maybe Nintendo's already <v Speaker 1>done that math and like, we don't care. <v Speaker 2>We're going to make more money on it. We're happy <v Speaker 2>about that. <v Speaker 3>I mean, Nintendo, Gunna, Nintendo. <v Speaker 4>And as you say, most people I think are going <v Speaker 4>to be looking to get this bundled with their switch to. <v Speaker 3>And it's not like we live in an. <v Speaker 4>Era of we need to have game cartridges. It's like no, no, no, <v Speaker 4>this is this comes with your switch to. <v Speaker 3>Now I would cut copy, it's just in your switch. <v Speaker 1>I personally want this game on that switch to all <v Speaker 1>the time, just in case. <v Speaker 2>Let's play it. Like, I mean, that's how I'm with <v Speaker 2>all my games. <v Speaker 1>But even if I was physical, I'd be like, nah, <v Speaker 1>digital Mario Kart World is the one that makes a <v Speaker 1>lot of sense. Yeah, I'm just kind of looking forward <v Speaker 1>to seeing this all roll out and how it all works. <v Speaker 1>And I do appreciate, Yeah, that thirty percent are like yeah, <v Speaker 1>I'm gonna be honest, I don't know if it justified <v Speaker 1>the price, but I'm still buying it. That's nice to <v Speaker 1>see that people are going to be completely forthright like that. <v Speaker 1>All right, a new poll question we'll get to in <v Speaker 1>a second. Before we do that, let's ask em Fife <v Speaker 1>where we can find her on the internet, what she <v Speaker 1>has going on all that good stuff. <v Speaker 4>Well, if you're perusing the fandom wikis, particularly of the <v Speaker 4>film and television variety, you might just see my face <v Speaker 4>talking about the final season of Handmaid's Tale and what <v Speaker 4>people were searching for and clicking on. Yeah, And then <v Speaker 4>I love it actually when people will just randomly text <v Speaker 4>me during the day that they're doing, like my writer <v Speaker 4>friends are, like, Oh, I was doing research for a <v Speaker 4>thing on a fandom wiki, and I was doing. <v Speaker 1>Research on a wiki yesterday, and there was your face <v Speaker 1>talking about ups and downs of page views on fandom. <v Speaker 4>That's that's fan polls maybe. And then uh, yeah, I'm <v Speaker 4>on Blue Sky and I'm on Instagram, and I'm checking <v Speaker 4>those PopMart shops and robo shops all the time. So again, <v Speaker 4>I feel pretty satisfied right now. Until the next La <v Speaker 4>Boo Boo drop happens. <v Speaker 3>This week, you can find me trying to get a <v Speaker 3>new Laboo buo and a. <v Speaker 4>New switch to It's gonna be it's gonna be a <v Speaker 4>tough week for the Internet. <v Speaker 3>And that's that's me. <v Speaker 1>Well, everyone, keep on keep up with em. Well, we'll <v Speaker 1>hopefully be back next Monday. I think there's no reason <v Speaker 1>we shouldn't be, so yeah, look looking forward to having <v Speaker 1>you back on the show. Then, in the meantime, new <v Speaker 1>poll question. Let's see here I wrote down and everything. <v Speaker 1>Have you ever rented a console? Yes or no? You <v Speaker 1>can go ahead and vote on that on YouTube dot <v Speaker 1>com slash at Giant Bomb under the community tab. There <v Speaker 1>you'll find all of our polls. Vote, we'll get the results, <v Speaker 1>talk about it on Game Breaking News here on the <v Speaker 1>Power Block featuring Giant Bomb and Game Spot. That'll be <v Speaker 1>on Wednesday show speaking of the Power Block. Not sure <v Speaker 1>what else is happening today. Dan is traveling, other stuff <v Speaker 1>is in the works, getting some stuff sorted out. But <v Speaker 1>we'll have some more information for you soon tomorrow the BombCast, <v Speaker 1>and then we'll be back with game breaking news for <v Speaker 1>the rest of the week after that. And shouldn't be <v Speaker 1>a blight club because again Dan is traveling, but we <v Speaker 1>might have a delight club. <v Speaker 2>We'll figure out some stuff for y'all. Thank We're going <v Speaker 2>to have. <v Speaker 1>A meeting about Yes, it's a blight club. Play the <v Speaker 1>Bad Game till competion. Delight Club is here's a game <v Speaker 1>I think you might like, and it's a it's the <v Speaker 1>nice reversal like that's how I discovered a Gamera two thousand, Mike, <v Speaker 1>maybe play that with Japanese only PlayStation released. <v Speaker 2>It's like Star Fox or PlayStation. <v Speaker 1>And it is so good with like the best soundtrack <v Speaker 1>on the PlayStation style of that game. Now, all right, <v Speaker 1>let's see here. I think that is going to do it. <v Speaker 1>Amm A Fife, thank you so much for hanging out <v Speaker 1>with me today and talking about video games. <v Speaker 2>I really appreciate it. <v Speaker 3>Oh, I appreciate you, Jeff. <v Speaker 1>Grub Now every time it's a good show. Thank you <v Speaker 1>all for listening and watching. You're the best audience in gaming. <v Speaker 1>Until next time, have a good one, take care of <v Speaker 1>yourself and goodbye.
