Speaker 1: You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio.

00:00:04
Speaker 2: Chase Daniel ESPN, NFL and college football analyst He joins us on the program. What would you say to those who are critical of Dan Rolofsky's opinion analysis of Ty Simpson over Fernando Mendoza.

00:00:21
Speaker 3: Yeah.

00:00:21
Speaker 4: Look, I.

00:00:23
Speaker 3: Talked to Dan quite a bit that after that thing that he said with Ty Simpson over text, and you know, he's just explained to me. I'm like, dude, you don't have to explain to me, Like you have an opinion, and you're one of the few people that watches every single snap. I mean, there's quite a few that are out there. But then to be able to regurgitate it to the public. Here's where I told him that he was a little bit unshrew and when he went on the Pat McAfee show, because I have no issue whatsoever, And I told Dan this to his face, like I like that, like I tend to agree, like I think ty sentence is way closer to QB one. I don't think he's QB one, then he is QB three. But here's where I went and got on him a little bit, because we're friends. I said, you said to you know, millions of people out there, whether social media, Pat mcafishew, whatever, that Mendoza didn't play in any big games. Yeah, I'm like, I'm like, Dan, did you see his college football playoff run? Did you see him against the number one defense in the nation in the Big Ten Championship game? And then he went on to be like, I'm like, no, Dan, you don't understand ten touchdowns one interception during those four games. It is the greatest, one of the greatest runs that we've seen in history. Plus you did it with Indiana against blue Bloods. I mean, that was a row of teams that and so I think that's probably, like I don't really care. Like there's a lot of people. I've talked to some teams. I talked to a few teams last night that have Simpson over Mendoza, and that's fine, but we just got to understand that quarterback evaluation sort of a crapshoot. I I appreciate Dan in his opinion and the platform that he's given, and I think it's I think it's absolutely ridiculous that you know, people are saying Dan's represented by CIA. Ty Simpson's represented by CIA. Look I don't. I don't play any attention to that. I just got onto Dan for him segment doesn't and play any big games.

00:02:32
Speaker 5: What does Ty Simpson do better than Fernando Mendoza.

00:02:35
Speaker 3: Yeah, I think he's a more natural thrower of the football, Like like when you talk what does that mean? Yeah, Well, when when I talked to people in the league still or or former players who are analysts, it just like his throwing motion, his mechanics from the ground up just look beautiful, Dan, like like like yesterday, it is protae. It was like everything you would ever teach a young kid on how to throw a football. This is what you want it to look like. And so Mendoza is a little bit more robotic. I think Mendoza has a little bit of a stronger arm, and so when you're throwing it and you're watching it in shorts, you're gonna be like, man, I'm like, look, I get Mendoza six', FIVE i Get Ty simpson sixty one sixty. Two but like people who have played the, POSITION i think more so gravitate towards that and get lost in. That although that's not even remotely all of the. Evaluation but WHEN i watch, HIM i feel the same. Thing i'm, like, man he's really really good within the, pocket got really good. Mechanics now he's only played fifteen, games AND i saw your take AND i thought it was right a couple of days. Ago i'm, like you want your quarterback to have more than fifteen, Starts, LIKE i totally agree with, you, right but you watch the quality of those starts at the beginning of the. Year And i've said this before AND i don't think this is. Reach and you can go back and look on my x, Account fritzy or whatever and pull this up, because LIKE i, said When Ty simpson after LIKE i think The missouri, game which was game eight or nine of his, Season i'm, like there's nobody playing better in college football like he. Is he is locked in to like a very high top, pick and he is probably gonna win The heisman if he continues. That that's not being, facetious that's not being hot, take that's not being. Clickbait like you just watch it and it's like, wow and then all of a, sudden it's like a huge drop off and. Play yes he got, sick guess, Tritus yes he got hurt a little. Bit the offensive line didn't play very, well no run, game and then the last four or five games he really. Struggled got a lot of happy. Feet AND i think if you're taking Ty simpson in the draft in that's the number one thing that you have to. Ask And i've talked to teams that have, asked.

00:04:49
Speaker 5: Like what?

00:04:50
Speaker 3: Happened was it just because you were? Sick was it just because you were down to one hundred and eighty five? Pounds he just looked like a completely different. Player that's my issue on why Ty simpson's not quarterback. One there was a massive drop off in.

00:05:03
Speaker 2: Play where Would Tom brady's arm today rank among the starting?

00:05:10
Speaker 5: Quarterbacks?

00:05:11
Speaker 3: Wow you, know for, ME i never thought Of Tom brady as like this like huge arm type guy Like John, Elway, RIGHT i would say it's probably be middle of the. PACK i mean that that's not What brady was ever gonna win you. With brady was always gonna win you with his brain and his. Arm AND i feel Like i'm getting back into a little bit of a hole writer Because i'm, like, Well, brady like he's like not the strongest, time like the goat for, Sure but there's AND i think this is a good point because it's like there's so much more to playing quarterback than looking good in, shorts LIKE i said With Ty simpson and AND i think that's Where Fernando mendoza really crosses that line for me as. Quarterback.

00:05:56
Speaker 2: One, yeah BUT i was bringing Up brady because he played in that flag football and he still he looks good man for a guy who's what what is he forty eight now forty?

00:06:06
Speaker 3: Eight, yeah it's.

00:06:07
Speaker 5: UNBELIEVABLE i mean he's still he's still slinging.

00:06:10
Speaker 3: It he really is still got.

00:06:13
Speaker 2: It. Man we're talking To Chase, DANIEL ESPN nfl college football. Analyst you, know we look at this. Draft it's not a sexy. Draft you got you, Know mendoz's going. One the curiosity Is Jeremiah love is the top five, pick and then you're gonna Have Ty. Simpson other than, that you got you, know a few wide receivers from edge rushers. There But i'm curious about your philosophy of drafting a running back AND i. DON'T i don't look At Jeremiah love as a running. BACK i just look at him as an, influencer like he's he's going to be out there returning, kicks catching passes and he can hit home? Runs would you take him in the top? Five if You're? Tennessee do you take him if he's?

00:06:57
Speaker 3: There, yeah that's where it gets interesting. From if You're, TENNESSEE i think you have to really look at taking an offensive weapon for Cam ward BECAUSE i, like for the most part What ward put on. Tape, now it was a tough season and a lot of, change a lot of all. This he just doesn't have any. Weapons AND i would agree with you there's not many backs out there that do the type of things That Jeremiah love. DOES i just think he's a really really good prospect and a really really like shallow draft class of like top tier. Talent, right you got the edge, rushers you got the. Quarterback really one that's in the top five in my. Opinion so then you're, thinking, well you, know do you want to get. EDGED i don't think an offensive tackle necessarily goes in the top, five and SO i think you're sort of backing yourself Into Jeremiah. Love here's what's interesting to me is like his contract's not going to be that much compared To Saquon barkley or compared to all these other. Guys if you take, them and you get them for five years in the first round. Regardless but if you can have a guy that can come in and be a three down. BACK i think he's a lot better blocker than people give him credit. FOR i think he's really good out of the, Backfield like there's no way he's gonna make it. There but like The, saints to me make a ton of sense because LIKE i was With Alvin kamara When Sean payton drafted. Him, NOW i don't think they're the same. PLAYER i Think love's a little bit, bigger but he can have that kind of impact that early on out of the, backfield catching the, ball and just the type of person he. IS i would absolutely be interested in taking. Them If i'm The Tennessee, titans.

00:08:32
Speaker 5: Is there a third? Quarterback?

00:08:35
Speaker 3: Yeah look that that Is that is the thousand dollars, question, man because when you look at, it it's like for me at, least right it's like my opinion is Like mendoza And, simpson AND i do think they're. Close LIKE i do think they're. CLOSE i Think mendoza's, ONE i Think simpson is is. Two and then to, me there's a huge drop off to where it's maybe maybe end of day, two beginning of day, five and that, person to me would be Either Garrett nssmeyer Or Drew. Aller, Now Garrett nessmeyer to me is an interesting one because he's a little bit you, know coaches. Kid he's gonna, interview, well he's gonna look good in. Shorts but when you watch the film this past, year, YES i know he was, Hurt, Yes, ellis it just wasn't very. Good you go back two years ago in twenty twenty four and you're watching, it you're, like, okay LIKE i can see some traits of a high quality. Backup maybe in the right scheme and right, fit if you have to, play you can be. Successful and Then Drew, ALLER i mean to, me, LIKE i really liked him two years, ago but he's probably the most frustrating Prospect i've watched in the past couple of years when you break down, quarterbacks because he has all the traits in the, World, like, like you look at him just, Physically, dan and you would have said in twenty twenty, FOUR i, mean this is WHAT i want my guy to be made. Of and then you watch the film you're, like what are you? Doing like they're there's these dope plays here and there that you're just like, ah and and it shares the sentiment of SOME nfl Teams i've talked to with. It but, like if you have good coaching and if you feel really good about Developing i'm not gonna say he's gonna come in and play right, away but if you develop him high level backup can be a. Starter and then, obviously Like Carson, BECK i think like there's there's hit or miss on. Him it's just a really it's, like if you want to back up quarterback After Ty simpson And, mendoza this is possibly your.

00:10:27
Speaker 5: Draft how Does Kyler murray work In. Minnesota, yeah that's a great.

00:10:33
Speaker 3: ONE i really like it a. Lot to be honest with, YOU i think the second that you, KNOW koc Signed kyler and then re Signed Carson, Wentz, LIKE i just THINK jj McCarthy's going to be quarterback three and could be you, know on the move in the draft if someone will take, Him LIKE i JUST i don't think his as far as as as you, KNOW jj McCarthy, GOES i think his time With minnesota sort of probably. Done now With, Kyler here's what is really good About kyler BECAUSE i like the way he, plays but he's very MUCH i want to do it myself type, quarterback right so Like i'm gonna put it all on, Me i'm gonna do all. This he doesn't have to do that. Anymore like you look at the offensive system he's going, to plus the playmakers around. Him if chaos can get him to just be, like, hey just throw an out route to the field on. Time you don't want to take a stinger away by, scramble but, like just throw a three step. Hitch let let's just move the ball down the. Field he's never done, that but With kyler it makes a lot of. Sense you're getting them for one point three million, dollars but he could turn his career. AROUND i mean he really. Could and the fact that he's going to a guy like KOs, MAN i really like.

00:11:40

00:12:39
Speaker 5: Podcasts, yea He's mac.

00:12:43
Speaker 2: McClung he is a part of The Windy City bulls and the all time leading scorer IN G league. History were you aware of that record the other night when you put up fifty.

00:12:54
Speaker 7: Nine, yeah it was a really cool.

00:12:57
Speaker 5: Moment.

00:12:57
Speaker 7: MAN i think my teammates they Were they're, like you're getting this record, tonight so they have my support and they really wanted me to break. It so it was a really cool.

00:13:06
Speaker 5: Moment, man how much could you score in a?

00:13:08
Speaker 7: Game the fifty nine was pretty, Exhausting SO i don't. KNOW i don't know how much MORE i could do than, That So i'd probably say that's close to my.

00:13:20
Speaker 5: Limit so you can't go eighty three Like bam out Of.

00:13:22
Speaker 7: BAYO i haven't done it, yet, MAN i don't. Know that's incredibly, IMPRESSIVE i, think no matter what the situation. Is so that's that was really.

00:13:31
Speaker 5: Cool what are you?

00:13:33
Speaker 2: Told because we see your? Abilities but what do teams tell you when you get a ten day contract or you're brought up for a little while and then you go back to THE G.

00:13:42
Speaker 7: League, yeah it's kind of different in every, situation you. KNOW i, think you, know being in the situation where you're fighting to find a roster. Spot different teams need different. Things so whatever it, IS i try to adapt and do, that you, Know and it's been, tough, MAN a lot of Times I've i've been, told you, know you're AN nba player like a. COACH i had actually one, year you, know being on a two way year at the bottom of the. Roster you made the, roster but you're kind of the guy that goes back and. Forth AND i had a coach tell me one, Year he's, like, man you're AN nba, Player like all you need is an, opportunity and like almost like was. LAUGHING i was, like, well you got to give me that. Opportunity, Really i'm just trying to make the most of whatever this situation. Is it's it's, tough.

00:14:25
Speaker 2: Man well you hear about you don't play, defense or you're not good at playing, defense you're not good off the, ball like these are things that have been.

00:14:34
Speaker 5: Said are those? Fair those fair?

00:14:36
Speaker 7: Criticisms you, know my two games this year WHEN i got called up at the beginning of the year WHERE i got legitim, MINUTES i was actually leading the league and. Steals SO i don't know IF i agree with that. Totally so it's. Tough there's always gonna be, something. MAN i feel like that's the Thing i've been trying to do in THE G league is just show, like oh you said this wasn't That that's well that's not the. Case and some people are always going to say certain, things, Man But i've really got a lot of love and respect from you, know peers in the league THAT i really appreciate and coaches in the league THAT i really looked up. To SO i think just just trying to find that opportunity in that right.

00:15:13
Speaker 5: Situation, man what was your welcome to THE nba? MOMENT i would say with the with The.

00:15:20
Speaker 7: Lakers that was WHERE i, started and that team Was, Lebron Carmelo, Rondo Dwight, howard AND i was just, Like i'm this kid from this small talentgate. City i'm, like what AM i in some video game right? Now so that that was shocking and SOMETHING i had to adjust to for a couple of.

00:15:35
Speaker 5: Days did you get to keep the? Uniform?

00:15:38
Speaker 4: Yeah.

00:15:38
Speaker 7: ABSOLUTELY i always always try to make SURE i keep that and have. It you, know some of my kids hopefully can see it one.

00:15:44
Speaker 2: Day do you introduce yourself To lebron or does he say loo to?

00:15:49
Speaker 7: YOU i WOULD i definitely introduce, myself and, YEAH i don't think, he uh in that situation he would ever have to introduce himself to. Me so, yeah it was being just a part of that and getting to see some.

00:16:01
Speaker 2: Things but are you starstruck on the floor when you're playing Like i'm guarding this guy THAT i grew up.

00:16:07
Speaker 7: Watching did you have that? MOMENT i think in my first. Year you, know you just adjust to. THAT i think at the end of the, day we're all competitors and you want to, win and you kind of flip that switch once you get on the. Floor but there's a level of. Respect you, know when you're a little kid and you watch someone and they mean something to, you they make you love the game that you're always going to have for those.

00:16:26
Speaker 2: People do you think you're too good at dunking that it overshadowed you as a basketball, player that maybe you were looked at as he does that and not maybe being fair to your actual basketball.

00:16:39
Speaker 3: GAME i think.

00:16:41
Speaker 7: That that could be maybe something from the outside of. Eye but like these scouts and these, teams like their job is to know basketball. Players SO i think anybody that knows basketball like that is just SOMETHING i got to be a part, of And i'm incredibly grateful FOR i lean into, it you, know like that was such a cool thing THAT i got to. Do There's i'm never gonna be, like oh, MAN i hate dunking now because of, That like that's a beautiful part of my, life AND i, think you, know the people that really love basketball and inner, basketball like that's just a part of. Me that's not really WHO i.

00:17:11
Speaker 5: Am He's mac, McClung The Windy City. Bulls. Uh but why not be in The Slam Dunk contest this?

00:17:18
Speaker 7: Year, well they quite, frankly they didn't really want me in it this. Year so that was it was like a they wanted me in, it and then some things happened and, uh you, know it kind of just went back and, forth and at the end they kind of didn't want me in the. Contest So i'd already. Prepared that's WHY i released those dunks on social, media Because i'd already. Prepared AND i was, like, well you, KNOW i teamed up with a company, marketing AND i was, like, WELL i might as well make the most of.

00:17:46
Speaker 2: This But i'm just was it you weren't on a roster or is that why they didn't want to in the Slam Dunk?

00:17:53
Speaker 5: Contest?

00:17:54
Speaker 7: NO i made The Chicago bulls roster maybe a little bit before or, That SO i don't know they told me that it. Was it was just it was a weird, situation. MAN i think they they said a couple guys didn't want to do it IF i was in, it AND i was, Like, okay WELL i don't want to ruin, that and.

00:18:12
Speaker 2: Way what What why wouldn't they want to be in there because they you were going to?

00:18:17
Speaker 7: WIN i don't, know, MAN i feel like these a lot of these guys are really, talented so that would make sense to. ME i mean a lot of things in this league don't make sense a lot of. Time i'm just going with the, flow, MAN i really am just going with the. Flow.

00:18:30
Speaker 2: Off how would you Do Michael jordan in his prime you in your prime slam dunk?

00:18:36
Speaker 7: Contest that's a tough, Question, DAN i, think, uh the times have, changed like kind of like in the game of, basketball like everything. Progresses SO i think If Michael jordan was in this, era he would probably have so much different dunks and so many creative. Things, SO i MEAN i WOULD i Think i'd be a little crazy to Say i'd take OVER mj like, that, man so AND i got a lot of so much respect and love for. HIM i would never say That i'd beat, him but it'd be. FUN i. WOULD i would definitely take the. Challenge it'd be a lot of fun have you met, Him, no never met him today before to be super cool.

00:19:09
Speaker 5: Though can you leave from the foul?

00:19:11
Speaker 7: Line my my best jumps are off two Feet WHEN i was in high, School, man WHEN i was WHEN i was, YOUNGER i used.

00:19:20
Speaker 5: To BE i wasn't that long, Ago, Matt.

00:19:23

00:19:41
Speaker 5: When you were in high?

00:19:42
Speaker 7: School that was some, crazy crazy. TIMES i. WAS i was in a town of fifteen hundred, people so everybody already kind of knew. Me and it was the cool part about it was when we would travel to different, schools they would like school would like shut down early because people be outside waiting for the. Games and it kind of felt like we were the kind of like this band that was. Traveling it was like me and my best. Friends, man it was such a cool. Experience and you know you go on YouTube and be, like, oh that got two million views last. Night it's just it was it was so weird being from a small town and like getting that. Attention, man but it was really cool for me and my.

00:20:16
Speaker 5: Friends so it was boy.

00:20:18
Speaker 2: Band you were, like you, know new kids on the block or one demention on what is?

00:20:23
Speaker 3: It one?

00:20:24
Speaker 5: Direction, yeah we weren't that, cool but we.

00:20:27
Speaker 7: Were it really did make us feel.

00:20:30
Speaker 5: Good so what's the? Future what are you twenty?

00:20:32
Speaker 7: Seven twenty seven years?

00:20:34
Speaker 3: Old the? Future for?

00:20:37
Speaker 7: Me, Man i'm not. Sure i've really like kind of going back to this situation and the record and MY G league, Career, like All i've tried to do done all ALL i tried to do is make the most of Wherever i'm at in that, moment and whether that be the dunk, contest the OPPORTUNITY i was getting with, that or being in THE G. LEAGUE I i've just tried to make the most of the. Situation So i'm not attached to the, outcome but just whatever happens. IS i really truly Believe i'm not a victim of, anything. Man so whatever happens is is how it's supposed to.

00:21:05
Speaker 5: Be official height and.

00:21:07
Speaker 7: Weight i'm measured at the comm. OUT i measured.

00:21:10
Speaker 5: Six, okay.

00:21:14
Speaker 2: Maybe it looks better when you're, shorter like if you're six y six doing, that it's not as.

00:21:18
Speaker 7: Impressive yeah MAYBE i maybe WISH i was six. Six that would probably give.

00:21:24
Speaker 2: Me but if you're six, six you're not winning The Slam Dunk, contest but you're playing in THE.

00:21:32
Speaker 5: Nba there we.

00:21:33
Speaker 7: Go, well that's that's the interesting trade.

GAME i would have to have my stat, Group SO i don't, know you, know maybe this time of, year everyone knows that everyone's, watching so you, know the referees also got to be careful that they don't give me a week.

00:22:42

00:23:20
Speaker 5: Danny, okay all.

00:23:22
Speaker 2: Right, UH i know that you've reached out to a lot of. People when you consider The lakers. Job you reached out To Tom, izzo who you face tomorrow. Night what did coach, say BECAUSE i know he was thinking about going to The? Cavaliers uh the? Uh what was that the year That lebron left The cavaliers he was going to win and? Coach so what advice did he give you on The lakers?

00:23:43
Speaker 5: Job, YEAH i know.

00:23:45
Speaker 8: Coaches though he uh he walked me through just you, know his his thought process when he went through uh you, know like the you, know the decision making of of of making that move to THE mb and the pros and cons and uh you know he obviously you know at that, time you, know college was very, different and, uh you know the point that coach had made to me, was you, know, HEY i think you really got to consider it our sport right. Now it's, uh you, know it's it's it's so. Unregulated it's such a. Mess uh you know. That you KNOW i would have considered this more now THAN i did back when college basketball.

00:24:27
Speaker 4: You, know wash you, know more.

00:24:29
Speaker 8: Regulated so BUT i you, know coaches been there for me on lots of different, things you, Know And i've studied coach for a long, Time LIKE i have all the great, coaches you, KNOW i studied you, know their films as a high school, coach trying to learn you, know favorite practice drills Of Tom, izzo anything on motivation and, leadership culture. Building And i've studied all the great coaches and taken advice from all the great.

00:24:52
Speaker 5: Ones can you see yourself coaching at his.

00:24:55
Speaker 8: AGE i can't see myself coaching at his. Age BUT i also can't see myself not. Coaching it's, like you, know like when you're part of teams and this is so much for a part of your. IDENTITY i always say to, MYSELF i can't believe these guys are coaching in their. Seventies yeah, yeah but then you, know then you find yourself coaching in your seventies.

00:25:17
Speaker 5: Like, PATINO i, mean he's a.

00:25:20
Speaker 4: LIFE i, mean these guys.

00:25:22
Speaker 8: Are it's incredible to, me you, know like it really is the energy, level how They you, know the thing about college you, know college coaching college basketball is like, that you, know the head coach drives the. ORGANIZATION i mean they drive, it drive, it drive it and are pushing everyone around them to the. Max and, uh you know at obviously you know what the amount of years those guys put in and what they achieved and to still be pushing that hard in their seventies.

00:25:48
Speaker 5: Incredible can you be out?

00:25:49
Speaker 8: COACHED i think that's a little bit of a uh whoever won the game out coached the other?

00:25:56
Speaker 4: Guy?

00:25:57
Speaker 8: Thing you, KNOW i THINK i think it's more about match especially this time of the. Year, Yeah you've got great coaches coaching all sixteen of these. Teams, yeah it all comes down TRY i think, matchups who's playing their best at this time of, year halftime adjustments and all that.

00:26:12
Speaker 4: STUFF i think it's way way.

00:26:14
Speaker 2: Overrated talking To Dan, hurley The connecticut basketball, coach they Got Michigan state tomorrow. Night Saint john's getting a five seed after winning The Big east is blank, crap.

00:26:28
Speaker 4: You, KNOW i, MEAN i, mean you, know.

00:26:32
Speaker 8: Crap and then having the you, know the Two Big east, teams you, know in the same, region you, know it's probably the.

00:26:40
Speaker 2: Same do you think that they were hoping that there would be a? Rematch i'm a, Committee.

00:26:48
Speaker 8: YEAH i MEAN i think that they're definitely the committee either got a weird sense of humor or they do a great job of trying to give the people what they. Want AND i think no matter how this week ends up in, uh you, know IN, dc you're going to get an e lead eight game that's going to be you, know it's going to be. Incredible and you've got you, Know, duke you, Know Rick patino And Saint John's yukon In Michigan.

00:27:13
Speaker 2: STATE i had somebody ask me, this AND i didn't know if they were, joking AND i realized they. Weren't they, said can You ukon be A cinderella story as a true? SEED i, go, No, Well i'll ask, you are you A cinderella story this?

00:27:29
Speaker 4: Year, NO i don't think.

00:27:31
Speaker 8: SO i think we've been, uh you, know, consistently you, know consistently great the whole. Year you, know we haven't always, yeah we we haven't performed in the championship. Moments so it'll be interesting to see how we respond this. Week but, uh you, know we we played uh or we had as good a non conference wins as anyone in the.

00:27:49
Speaker 4: Country.

00:27:50
Speaker 8: Uh and then we went nineteen and three in The Big, east so you, know and then uh, yeah we won our first, too you, know first two tournament games by double figure. Points SO i do, think you, know we're kind of coming, in you, know a lot quieter than we did in twenty three and twenty, four and that's probably serves us pretty.

00:28:08
Speaker 2: Well i'm curious about the future of the mid major, Here, dan BECAUSE i don't know if these last two years are an, aberration or is that the future of the Blue bloods are are going to take over and mid majors are not going to be what they used to.

00:28:25
Speaker 4: Be, yeah, WELL i definitely think.

00:28:29
Speaker 8: That you, KNOW i think it's gonna get tougher for mid majors BECAUSE i think more high majors are going to spend more money in this, offseason SO i think it's going to get even. TOUGHER i think to make THE naa, tournament and THEN i think it's going to be tougher for the mid. Majors but THEN i also on the flip, SIDE i think you're going to see even more international players coming into college. BASKETBALL i just think the inventory is going to grow as it makes more sense for international players that can make more money in college In. America and then THAT i think is just going to create more inventory of talent that the mid major you, know ends up with better players and they could maybe you, know win more of these early conference.

00:29:14
Speaker 2: Games BUT i, wonder, though if you would rather get a transfer who has proven or you got a high school.

00:29:22
Speaker 4: KID i, mean in the perfect, World i'd rather have the high school.

00:29:26
Speaker 8: Kid AND i think the way that we try to do it is a majority of our team we want as homegrown boys that we developed a relationship. With we have a, Culture we got a real, connection you got a real fabric of a, team and and that's supplement with with what you need in the portal or or at least you, know in most cases have multiple years with the, transfers so it doesn't feel so transactional and it doesn't feel like you're just putting together a mercenary.

00:29:53
Speaker 5: Squad what's the most money somebody has asked you.

00:29:56
Speaker 4: For four and a half? MILLION i, think.

00:30:04
Speaker 5: How does that conversation?

00:30:05
Speaker 4: Go it doesn't.

00:30:07
Speaker 8: Actually go out with me BECAUSE I i'll meet with the agents to talk about the vision for the, player you, know on the official visit with the with the transfer or the high school. Player they could sit in on you, know how we plan to develop the, player how do we use them in the system or. Whatever but once we get to, uh you, know any type of, negotiating that just goes to THE Gm Tom moore and then uh he just kind of walks in and out of the boardroom telling me where where the negotiations? Going and then you, know uh, YEAH i try to stay out of. THAT i, don't you, know the negotiations get.

00:30:44
Speaker 2: Personal how would you do coaching The yukon women's? Team and how Would gino do well coaching the men's.

00:30:50
Speaker 8: Team, WELL i Think Yo gino would obviously do better coaching the men's to coaching the women because you.

00:31:00
Speaker 4: Know you, know Because geno's maybe you, know the best coach of all.

00:31:03
Speaker 8: Time, so, UH i would BE i DON'T i would be more, relaxed, OBVIOUSLY i wouldn't.

00:31:09
Speaker 4: BE i would ENJOY i don't.

00:31:12
Speaker 8: Know they've won twenty seven or twelve thirty games this year by twenty five points or.

00:31:17
Speaker 4: MORE i don't know HOW i would handle.

00:31:19
Speaker 8: THAT i don't know what type of STRESS i would create and, uh you know what type of tension COULD i create? There it would probably make me. CRAZY i would long for a brutal loss at some.

00:31:30
Speaker 2: Point you Would you would probably consult your wife a lot.

00:31:33
Speaker 8: MORE i would uh, yeah, uh she she Would, yeah she'd have a lot to say, too and she'd be constantly monitoring.

00:31:44
Speaker 2: Me you you would have to find somebody to yell, at and it'd be hard to find somebody to yell at on the women's.

00:31:50
Speaker 8: Team it would be and you, know AND i don't, KNOW I i or the officials are mostly female OR i, mean it's it was that half and half you, KNOW i just it'd be an adjustment, week different.

00:32:06
Speaker 5: World will you watch the games?

00:32:07
Speaker 4: Tonight, yeah you, know we'll keep these guys up and do.

00:32:12
Speaker 8: Video it's it's you, know the game's gonna start for us close to, nine you, know so we but but last week we played. IT i think we started our first round game at ten Thirty eastern, times so our body clock is used to playing late at. Night but, YEAH i mean only in years THAT i get eliminated early DO i not WATCH i you, KNOW i REFUSE I i boycott the tournament in years where we're not in.

00:32:38
Speaker 5: Contention, YEAH i understand.

00:32:40
Speaker 2: That you, know why why put yourself through the agony of watching somebody and you, go we're better than.

00:32:46
Speaker 5: Them.

00:32:47
Speaker 8: Yeah and it's, like you, know when you're a little kid or, something and if you didn't get invited to a birthday party or a pool party or something in your, neighborhood and then what are you going to?

00:32:56
Speaker 4: Do go up to the fence and listen to the kids splash around in the. Water no one's doing.

00:33:01
Speaker 2: That is there something you're you want to tell me that you didn't get invited to the pool parties in the? Neighborhood did anybody have a pool In Jersey? City there was.

00:33:12
Speaker 8: One there was one up at the top of the block right down a couple of houses down From Darren, savino buddy of ours coaches AT, Ucla and there was literally one pool in this like probably two block.

00:33:24
Speaker 4: Radius and uh uh.

00:33:27
Speaker 8: On the way to the park where my where my dad and mom would put us through the, drills me and my, brother the jump, rope the ball handling, drills the shooting.

00:33:35
Speaker 4: Drills in the heat of.

00:33:36
Speaker 8: Summer we had to kind of dribble past that pool while they were splashing, around, barbecuing listening to music in Like, June, July.

00:33:44
Speaker 4: August so no.

00:33:46
Speaker 5: Scars, yeah but how many titles did those people?

00:33:49
Speaker 8: WIN i, MEAN i don't THINK i don't think They uh, yeah sports wasn't their.

00:33:55
Speaker 5: Deal was your mom put you through drills with your?

00:34:02
Speaker 8: Dad, yeah because during the, week my, dad you, know he was a probation, officer you, know so during the, summer my dad didn't teach It Saint, anthony so he didn't get the summers. Off so you, know either me And bob would write up the plan for today or my dad would have the workout. Written now do you be brown box, drills the agility warm. UP i mean we would make, chalk you, know exes on the on the court so we could do our agility. Work my mom would have a whistle and she would put us through the paces as the neighbor as people would be.

00:34:36
Speaker 4: Looking out at us in. Astonishment.

00:34:39
Speaker 2: Neighbors, so your dad probation, Officer i'm gonna, guess pretty tough to get away with stuff in your.

00:34:45
Speaker 4: Teens, yes, SCARE i, mean, yeah you.

00:34:47
Speaker 8: KNEW i mean he just growing up In Jersey, city you, know the things that he, did just as a kid that was raised in the street and as an outside, dog not an indoor. Dog and, UH i mean he uh you, know and then being the probation officer kind of driving around with him when he would go on house calls trying to find uh you, KNOW i guess his clients that had not come in to take, uh you, know the the urine test or what have. You just seeing grown men scramble as The dodge caravan was driving Down Martin Luther King. Drive you, know you you you know you can't get away with.

00:35:25
Speaker 2: Stuff BUT i wonder that had you been raised in the suburbs as opposed to where you're. Raised would you be how different would you be or would you be different as a, person as a coach, PLAYER.

00:35:42
Speaker 4: I would be a lot.

00:35:43
Speaker 8: DIFFERENT i think the you know the advantage of growing up you know where we grew, up growing up in the, city growing up In North, Jersey Jersey.

00:35:50
Speaker 4: City, uh you, KNOW i just think.

00:35:53
Speaker 8: You've got a real, versatile relatable way about.

00:35:57
Speaker 4: You.

00:35:58
Speaker 8: Uh you, know you feel like you, could you, know communicate with a with a very diverse group of people from all different types of. BACKGROUNDS i Mean Jersey, CITY i, think next To queens is the most diverse city In. America, so, uh you know it's you you, develop, uh you, know a connection to all. People you're comfortable out on the street, corner but you're also you develop a comfortability uh in the.

00:36:22
Speaker 5: Boardroom great to talk to. You do you have big plans for? Today?

00:36:28
Speaker 4: Uh just uh the final.
