Today, switch to could get <v Speaker 2>revealed this week just like the last one hundred weeks. <v Speaker 2>But first please join me and welcoming today's co host <v Speaker 2>to Game Mess Mornings. <v Speaker 1>It's Emma Fife. Everybody, Emma, how are you doing your <v Speaker 1>your marry congratulation? <v Speaker 3>I am married. Thank you so much. <v Speaker 4>It's great to be back to everybody saying I have <v Speaker 4>a new set. All I did was turn my desk around. <v Speaker 4>You know, that's that is a new set. I but <v Speaker 4>you know, I just like I really got it in <v Speaker 4>my head that I wanted to change it up, you know, <v Speaker 4>new new wedding ring, new set, all that, all that stuff. <v Speaker 4>So yeah, it's been it's been great. Same Cat, Same <v Speaker 4>Cat really really wants to be involved in the in <v Speaker 4>the show. I asked him this morning, Oh do you <v Speaker 4>want to you ready to be on the show, And <v Speaker 4>here he is, folks, light of course, yeah, but no. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I'm I'm doing really well. <v Speaker 4>It's it's funny because, like, you know, this is very <v Speaker 4>modern blah blah blah. But you know, I've I've lived <v Speaker 4>with my husband already for three years. <v Speaker 3>It's like we're kind of like cool. I doesn't really <v Speaker 3>feel that different. But it was. It was a great event, <v Speaker 3>and yeah, it's great. <v Speaker 1>I'm glad to hear it. <v Speaker 2>How's how's it been like getting on the other side <v Speaker 2>of all the wedding planning. Were you able to wind <v Speaker 2>and relax and basking the heyme, there's nothing to plan <v Speaker 2>for this moment? <v Speaker 4>Yeah, well yes, and no, there's nothing to plan for <v Speaker 4>my personal life at the shurement. <v Speaker 3>But I can't quite say the same for work. <v Speaker 4>But yeah, we're but yeah, I mean it's it was. <v Speaker 4>It's been really interesting because my my physical therapist was like, <v Speaker 4>why is your body so like showing all these signs <v Speaker 4>of stress now? And I basically explained to him that <v Speaker 4>whenever I'm planning an event and there's like a lot <v Speaker 4>of moving parts, I think I just kind of go <v Speaker 4>into a fugue state, or I'm like I don't, I don't. <v Speaker 4>There's no being stressed isn't going to help anything. Being <v Speaker 4>freaking out isn't going to help anything. So I just <v Speaker 4>kind of like zen out and do the thing, and <v Speaker 4>then afterwards I'm like, oh that was stressful. <v Speaker 2>Yes, it's uh, the stress acts as a it turns <v Speaker 2>into something else, like when the job to get done, <v Speaker 2>and then when it has no mechanism to funnel into, <v Speaker 2>then it just stays there in the body. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally. Well, we're glad, we're glad to <v Speaker 1>have you back. <v Speaker 2>That glad you're here. Couldn't be struggle to do the <v Speaker 2>show without you, but you're here. Now, We're going to <v Speaker 2>make it happen again. I'm back absolutely you. Did you <v Speaker 2>get a chance to like play any games? I saw <v Speaker 2>you log on to Haites two here and there. <v Speaker 3>Here and there. It is an understand. <v Speaker 4>Uh yeah, But so I I am this far away <v Speaker 4>from finishing Echoes of Wisdom. <v Speaker 3>I know I'm on like the final stretch yep. But <v Speaker 3>then that Hades to uh uh. <v Speaker 4>Update dropped and it's been I've been playing a lot <v Speaker 4>of hates yep. <v Speaker 1>I don't blame you. <v Speaker 2>I'm I'm I continue to be like, all right, I'm <v Speaker 2>gonna play some Hades two and then for whatever reason, <v Speaker 2>I don't get back around to I'm played a little <v Speaker 2>bit when the early actual started, and I have nothing <v Speaker 2>against early access. I like it a lot, But then <v Speaker 2>you know, did these astro stages keep happening? And I <v Speaker 2>also need to finish Echoes of Wisdom? I need to <v Speaker 2>finish a thousand year doors still or also Mike's gonna <v Speaker 2>yell at me. So I got a lot of stuff <v Speaker 2>to wrap up over here. But Hates two continues to <v Speaker 2>be like just lingering there for me, like, come completely <v Speaker 2>come play me. <v Speaker 4>I uh, yeah, I've really been enjoying the ben Star update, <v Speaker 4>and uh it was really fun because the first time <v Speaker 4>you open the game up to play with the ben <v Speaker 4>R with the ben Star update, he talks at you <v Speaker 4>because he's like the boss. <v Speaker 3>Of the new area. But yeah, it's it's great. <v Speaker 4>Uh. I know it's an early access, I I love <v Speaker 4>I love it so much. <v Speaker 3>Uh it's the new weapon is so fun. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, so again, very cool. <v Speaker 2>All right, Uh, let's explain what we do here most weekdays, <v Speaker 2>I Jeff Grubb, will help piece your gaming life back together. <v Speaker 2>That includes breaking news and maybe even some of our <v Speaker 2>own original reporting. For all these topics, I'll get the <v Speaker 2>input of a bona fide expert who will make me <v Speaker 2>look smart? If you were watching live on twitch welcome, <v Speaker 2>You could always listen to the show later on podcast <v Speaker 2>feeds by searching for Game Mess Mornings, or find the <v Speaker 2>RSS on giant bomb dot com. You can also catch <v Speaker 2>the show later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube. <v Speaker 1>Hello YouTube. All right, we have a lot. <v Speaker 2>To get into, so let's start the Morning Mess with <v Speaker 2>actually Dragon Age reviews. They're just popping off as soon <v Speaker 2>as we got started. Early results are in on Open Critic. <v Speaker 2>It hasn't eighty four across all platforms at the moment, <v Speaker 2>it was at eighty five. Just pop down to eighty four. <v Speaker 2>It's probably gonna hover around there. <v Speaker 1>Seems like on. <v Speaker 2>Metacritic it's kind of in a similar range, maybe a <v Speaker 2>little bit lower with fewer reviews on PC. But let's <v Speaker 2>see if we have any of the early word here <v Speaker 2>from some of these top critics. Robert Purchase a purchase <v Speaker 2>over at Eurogamer said gave it a five out of <v Speaker 2>five and gave it and said a fantasy role playing <v Speaker 2>game of astonishing spectacle. This is the best Dragon Age <v Speaker 2>and perhaps by Aware has ever been. And Leanna Haffer <v Speaker 2>at IGN. <v Speaker 1>Gave it a nine out of ten and said. <v Speaker 2>Dragon Age the Veilguard refreshes and reinvigorates a storied series <v Speaker 2>that stumbled through its middle years and leaves no doubt <v Speaker 2>that it deserves its place in the RPG pantheon. The <v Speaker 2>next Mass Effect is going to have a very tough <v Speaker 2>act to follow, which is not something I ever imagined <v Speaker 2>say I'd be saying before I got swept away on <v Speaker 2>this adventure, Let's see here. Shack News gave it a <v Speaker 2>seven out of ten. It says a game that is <v Speaker 2>technically sound and very beautiful, but fails to get its <v Speaker 2>hooks in where it counts. And I feel like among <v Speaker 2>other great RPGs that have come out just this year, <v Speaker 2>Vailguard will have a hard time standing out. And then <v Speaker 2>Melindy Hetfield at The Guardian said three out of five <v Speaker 2>and then said there is lots to do in this <v Speaker 2>huge and beautiful fantasy world, but inconsistent writing and muted <v Speaker 2>combat dulls its blade. <v Speaker 1>You looking forward to Dragon Age the Veil Guard, you. <v Speaker 4>Know, I have I love Mass Effect, and I've never <v Speaker 4>really gotten into dragon Age. <v Speaker 3>Like I have a huge awareness of dragon Age. <v Speaker 4>I know a lot about it, but I've never actually <v Speaker 4>played the games when I used to stream pretty regularly <v Speaker 4>on my Twitch channel back in ye old twenty twenty, <v Speaker 4>when nobody could leave their homes. I had some people <v Speaker 4>in my Twitch community that absolutely like, just adore dragon Age. <v Speaker 4>I'm fascinated to play it. These scores are wild to me, <v Speaker 4>just like looking at sort of the spread of them <v Speaker 4>from places giving it, you know, like effectively like a <v Speaker 4>seventy out of one hundred or even a sixty out <v Speaker 4>of one hundred, and then other places giving it a <v Speaker 4>perfect score. So yeah, I'm certainly curious. I love mass effect. <v Speaker 4>So I'm down. <v Speaker 3>I'm down to give dragon Age the year old try. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I think this is a pretty good result for <v Speaker 2>dragon Age after you know, some questions about hey can <v Speaker 2>buyowear bounce back and deliver a really solid game, and <v Speaker 2>this is definitely that at. <v Speaker 1>The very least, Like maybe this is not game of <v Speaker 1>the year contender. I think some. <v Speaker 2>People some of these reviews are implying that it actually <v Speaker 2>is for in their opinion, but I think across the <v Speaker 2>board here it seems like, you know, no, okay, yeah, <v Speaker 2>this is a really good game, something worthy of BioWare, <v Speaker 2>and maybe put can put some of those concerns about <v Speaker 2>the studio overall the rest, and then if you are <v Speaker 2>interested in dragon Age, it sounds like, hey, this is <v Speaker 2>a good one of those. And then if you if <v Speaker 2>you've never played dragon Age before, it seems like this <v Speaker 2>might be a good one to hop on with because <v Speaker 2>it's just it's well made technically, as you said. And <v Speaker 2>then the concerns seemed to be, you know, again glancing <v Speaker 2>at the reviews really quick, I've not played it myself, <v Speaker 2>that maybe some of the gameplay looks is a little <v Speaker 2>bit behind the curve when it gets compared to something <v Speaker 2>like a Boulder's Gate three, which is I think to <v Speaker 2>be expected at this point. They this is the dragon <v Speaker 2>Age that was supposed to be much more inspired by <v Speaker 2>like God of Orger twenty eighteen, then the classic RPG, <v Speaker 2>so the fact that it still has pretty strong RPG <v Speaker 2>elements and then that stuff as well, Okay, that sounds promising. <v Speaker 2>So yeah, I'm probably gonna check this out myself and <v Speaker 2>give it a shot and play some of it. Who <v Speaker 2>knows of it If it gets it took into me, <v Speaker 2>that's something that could easily bounce off of. <v Speaker 1>But I think this is pretty pretty good result for <v Speaker 1>this game. Yeah. <v Speaker 4>I mean I need something else to fill my time <v Speaker 4>until the next major Haities two updates, so you know, <v Speaker 4>maybe it'll be dragging. <v Speaker 2>H yeah maybe. So yeah, well this game is out. <v Speaker 1>Let's see was the release days? It just was coming <v Speaker 1>out like tomorrow maybe later today. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's oh yeah, it's just the one that was <v Speaker 2>out Halloween Day, so it might be out later this <v Speaker 2>week folloween. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, I think it comes out on Thursday, which is <v Speaker 4>your kind of tyfficult Thursday release day for games. <v Speaker 2>So people get a chance to check it out later <v Speaker 2>this week, and I get feeling this is going to <v Speaker 2>do just fine. <v Speaker 1>It's gonna be. <v Speaker 2>A big hit for them, and uh, you know, it <v Speaker 2>seems like one of those that is for as much <v Speaker 2>as the critics like it, and some are like, well yeah, <v Speaker 2>maybe I like it. <v Speaker 1>Yeah. <v Speaker 2>I think it seems like it could be primed to <v Speaker 2>be a fan favorite. I think there's a lot of <v Speaker 2>Dragon Age fans that will be very happy. <v Speaker 3>Absolutely. Yeah. <v Speaker 4>I mean this is definitely a series that has some <v Speaker 4>very die hard fans, so you know, and look, I <v Speaker 4>get it as there are certain games where it's just <v Speaker 4>it's a series or something that really has its hooks <v Speaker 4>in you it can be difficult to like be critical. Yeah, absolutely, <v Speaker 4>you know if it's something that you just absolutely adore <v Speaker 4>and have been waiting for for a long time. So <v Speaker 4>I fully, I fully respect that. You know, there may <v Speaker 4>be people who are reviewing this game who are die <v Speaker 4>hard Dragon Age fans, and you know what, power to them. <v Speaker 1>Yes, you know, like getting your shit absolutely. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, like the stuff you like. <v Speaker 1>Like it. <v Speaker 2>Yes, I'm just trying to see if Game Spots review went. <v Speaker 2>But I don't see it. <v Speaker 3>I haven't seen it yet. <v Speaker 2>All right, all right, let's get into the news I <v Speaker 2>have written down here and in fact I'll even bring <v Speaker 2>up headlines. <v Speaker 1>Let's do both at the same time. <v Speaker 2>It is Switch to getting announced this week. This is <v Speaker 2>from Simon Batt at XDA. After Nintendo confirmed that it <v Speaker 2>was working on a switch to the Internet has been <v Speaker 2>a buzz with information rumors surrounding this new handheld. We've <v Speaker 2>heard everything from Nintendo Switch backward compatibility to a potential <v Speaker 2>release date, but the gaming ganet itself has been silent <v Speaker 2>on most of these matters. If a recent rumor is <v Speaker 2>to be believed. However, that may soon change, as a <v Speaker 2>reputable leaker revealed that Nintendo may let us see behind <v Speaker 2>the curtain before October is over. As spotted by notebook Check, <v Speaker 2>the news comes to us from pH Brazil, who has <v Speaker 2>been supplying fans with a steady stream of switch two <v Speaker 2>weeks for. <v Speaker 1>A little while. <v Speaker 2>Now this time around, they have reason to believe that <v Speaker 2>the switch to will be shown off sometime between now <v Speaker 2>in October thirty. First, now, I did look into this <v Speaker 2>a little bit a pH Brazil sounded like they were like, hey, <v Speaker 2>there's some there's some stuff that points to this, but <v Speaker 2>this makes sense. <v Speaker 1>But it sounded like they were speculating. <v Speaker 2>So let's not go ahead and just like do the <v Speaker 2>thing where it's like they were speculating. And so this <v Speaker 2>is gonna happen. But there's been a lot of people <v Speaker 2>trying to drum up the smoke for a reveal this <v Speaker 2>week in Factor is like a countdown timer that says <v Speaker 2>Nintendo will reveal the switch to tomorrow. <v Speaker 1>That has gone viral with a bunch. <v Speaker 2>Of people who like who follow this, follow this stuff, <v Speaker 2>and you know, Nintendo's earnings result is happening soon. If <v Speaker 2>it's not this week, it's it's something like next week. <v Speaker 2>It's happening very soon. So the theory goes Emma that <v Speaker 2>Nintendo will have its it's earnings report where it will <v Speaker 2>have to talk to investors and maybe the Switch sales <v Speaker 2>are low down faster than Nintendo expected and anticipated and <v Speaker 2>told investors that, you know, hey, we're going to sell <v Speaker 2>this many switch units, so don't worry, and they're going <v Speaker 2>to actually end up having to say, well, we sold <v Speaker 2>this many, it's a much lower number. And so to <v Speaker 2>offset concerns about that, Nintendo will have a reveal the <v Speaker 2>switch to to distract and be like, hey, we're moving on, <v Speaker 2>so what does it matter? Sure, circumstantial evidence and barely <v Speaker 2>even that. Really this is more like fan fiction a <v Speaker 2>little bit, but I could also see it happening again. <v Speaker 2>We are in the window. Nintendo said they will reveal <v Speaker 2>the switch to sometime between now and March thirty first <v Speaker 2>of next year, at any point, and they're still like <v Speaker 2>it just feels like, yeah, they could reveal it this year. <v Speaker 2>Still sure, that's what they did with the Switch one. <v Speaker 2>Things are different than they were with the Switch one, right, Yeah. <v Speaker 4>So yeah, Nintendo's earnings report is scheduled for November fifth, <v Speaker 4>So you know, I see the reasoning here completely. And look, <v Speaker 4>I think it was our wolves and chat said we <v Speaker 4>should just make a supercut of every single story out <v Speaker 4>there saying switch to gonna be revealed this week for <v Speaker 4>the last four years. <v Speaker 3>And yeah, but look, I mean, this is. <v Speaker 4>More credible, shall we say, than other reports of you know, <v Speaker 4>is the switch to going to be revealed this week? <v Speaker 3>I see the reasoning behind it, and. <v Speaker 4>Yet they may also not. It's just like truly because again, <v Speaker 4>as you say, they give this this broad window of <v Speaker 4>between now ish and March of next year. That's that's <v Speaker 4>a big window of time, and I can see the <v Speaker 4>impetus for them, you know, doing this revealed, because as <v Speaker 4>you say that, with the news that switch to his coming, <v Speaker 4>the switch proper sales have definitely slowed down. And also <v Speaker 4>I'm just like, does didn't everybody get a switch? Like <v Speaker 4>switches are available now, so like, you know, it's it's <v Speaker 4>getting to be the time, especially when you start happy. <v Speaker 4>You know, we're we're four years into the life cycle <v Speaker 4>now of the next gen consoles from PlayStation and xbox, <v Speaker 4>so you know, it's who can say. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean, and that's kind of you know, I <v Speaker 2>think I'm with most other people on this where it's <v Speaker 2>like listen, I of course I'm interested in Switch too. <v Speaker 2>It makes for a fun headline on the show, sure <v Speaker 2>about it when someone mentions it? <v Speaker 1>Why not? <v Speaker 2>Especially you know, the next story on this rundown is <v Speaker 2>a designer, an next designer. But that's talk about Starfield two. <v Speaker 2>That's where where we are with the news this week. <v Speaker 2>So it's like, okay, yeah, we'll talk about Switch too. <v Speaker 2>But in reality, my day to day I am not <v Speaker 2>paying much attention to this stuff. I am just being like, <v Speaker 2>Nintendo's going to do it, when they're going to do it. <v Speaker 2>I have mostly given up trying to predict how they <v Speaker 2>are going to handle this. Yeah, because you know the <v Speaker 2>evidence we have or this sort of pattern, that recognition <v Speaker 2>that people want to go with, is it happened this <v Speaker 2>way with the Switch one? And I get this, of <v Speaker 2>course it's easy to fall into this. I do it <v Speaker 2>often too, But like it happened this way with the <v Speaker 2>Switch one where they announced it, you know, in the <v Speaker 2>fall and then they released it in March, but you <v Speaker 2>know that was because the WEU was a disaster and <v Speaker 2>they were moving on quickly from that, and the Switch <v Speaker 2>has kind of been very different now. Of course, it's like, oh, <v Speaker 2>the switches sales are cratering, which I think they'll be. <v Speaker 2>They'll come in under what Nintendo told investors, but I <v Speaker 2>don't think they're cratering. So but no, okay, yeah, but <v Speaker 2>that's still that's very different. <v Speaker 1>And then we also just don't know. <v Speaker 2>When the switch to is sposed supposed to launch, where <v Speaker 2>the Switch one was kind of by this point understood <v Speaker 2>to becoming pretty early in the next year. Yeah, at <v Speaker 2>this point because the reveal had happened. At this point, <v Speaker 2>we kind of knew that was going to go down <v Speaker 2>that way. So it's just things are very different. And <v Speaker 2>so when I try to be like, Okay, what makes sense, <v Speaker 2>what would what is Nintendo going to do in this situation? <v Speaker 2>Because X, Y, and Z, it's oh, and the Nintendo <v Speaker 2>could do anything, and it feels like they have this <v Speaker 2>stuff ready to go and ready to drop whenever they <v Speaker 2>want and they just haven't decided when they want to <v Speaker 2>do it yet. So uh, yeah, We're going to continue <v Speaker 2>being this, continue to be in this holding pattern and <v Speaker 2>Nintendo will just do it when they do it, and <v Speaker 2>I've accepted that. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, And again it's like, you know, as far as <v Speaker 4>the Nintendo's switch goes, sure, yes, the sales have slowed, <v Speaker 4>but they haven't stopped completely because again, you know, it <v Speaker 4>is it is typically in my experience, just in my <v Speaker 4>personal experience between myself and friends that have children, it <v Speaker 4>is the first console you buy a kid. <v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, it's the family console. <v Speaker 4>And there's plenty of kids who are now turning. <v Speaker 1>Eight years old, new, ten years old, yeap. <v Speaker 4>Whatever whatever age it was that parents said Okay, we'll <v Speaker 4>consider getting them a game console. There's kids turning that <v Speaker 4>age and they're still getting switches. <v Speaker 2>Yep, absolutely, I mean it's uh, I had steam decks <v Speaker 2>around the house and the PlayStation five, and I'll let <v Speaker 2>them play with whatever they want. <v Speaker 1>It doesn't bother me. <v Speaker 2>And they have both sort of you know, other than <v Speaker 2>Astro constantly at ease a school to day in Astro <v Speaker 2>right right over there right the second. Other than that, <v Speaker 2>it is like switch all the time. And that was <v Speaker 2>not me being like, no, that's the council for you. <v Speaker 2>They were both just like decided, it's all switch all <v Speaker 2>the time now and that's just how it goes. And <v Speaker 2>Nintendo took advantage of that as much as possible. Right, <v Speaker 2>There's plenty of houses that have two switches, three switches. <v Speaker 4>I mean, we have two switches in our household, two adults, <v Speaker 4>we each have a switch. <v Speaker 1>You know. <v Speaker 2>Uh, and so I'm like, we are also at a <v Speaker 2>point though, where it's like, yeah, that's saturated. There are <v Speaker 2>just about every house that is going to have multiple <v Speaker 2>switches has done that. <v Speaker 1>And as much as that Zelda switch light might have moved. <v Speaker 2>Because people thought it looked cool, you know, I think <v Speaker 2>it's they're probably gonna find out. Okay, No, most people <v Speaker 2>are just holding on for switch to and so the <v Speaker 2>time is right and so if we do, if tomorrow <v Speaker 2>we go on the bomb cast and and right Dan, <v Speaker 2>as soon as we're going live, they dropped something for <v Speaker 2>the switch to again, I won't be surprised and that <v Speaker 2>and then if it doesn't happen until March of next year, <v Speaker 2>I won't be surprised. <v Speaker 3>Won't be surprised. <v Speaker 2>It's just going to be, you know, when they're gonna <v Speaker 2>do it is when they're going to do it, and <v Speaker 2>we'll keep trying to figure it out because it is. <v Speaker 2>I still think pretty fun for this show. Yeah, but <v Speaker 2>I also acknowledge it's completely a fool's errand uh so <v Speaker 2>absolutely Nintendo get to Nintendo. Yeah, all right, as promised <v Speaker 2>the next story, Starfield two will be one hell of <v Speaker 2>a game, according to Expathesta designer. <v Speaker 1>This is from Jordan Miller at VGC. <v Speaker 2>Veteran former Pathesta designer, Bruce Nesmith has said that a <v Speaker 2>potential Starfield sequel would be one hell of a game <v Speaker 2>thanks to the to the developer learning from the mistakes <v Speaker 2>of first Speaking to video Gamer, Nesmith, who left the <v Speaker 2>company in twenty twenty one after working on many of <v Speaker 2>its biggest series, including acting as lead designer for Skyrim, <v Speaker 2>compared Starfield's and first entry to that of Mass Effect <v Speaker 2>or Assassin's Creed, both of which received sequels that were <v Speaker 2>much more positively received than their initial release. I mean, listen, <v Speaker 2>I get that, I do, but that's it takes. <v Speaker 1>A long time to make their games. <v Speaker 2>And yes, I think my thing here is, if we <v Speaker 2>are taking the time to make a Starfield two, how <v Speaker 2>much further out does that push a Skyrim or a Fallout? <v Speaker 1>And that seems a crazy idea. <v Speaker 2>I want to see the Starfield two that realizes all <v Speaker 2>the potential. Absolutely sure, not at the expense of another <v Speaker 2>ten years before we get a Fallout game. <v Speaker 4>No, And I was gonna say that seems like a <v Speaker 4>miss on their part if they're going to focus on <v Speaker 4>a Starfield two, especially given the renewed interest that we <v Speaker 4>saw in the beginning of the year with Fallout and yes, <v Speaker 4>obviously a ton more people played Fallout four and Fallout <v Speaker 4>seventy six is maybe playable, But that being said, they <v Speaker 4>would be real dumb not to capitalize on the crossover <v Speaker 4>audience that they have gotten from the fact that Amazon <v Speaker 4>made a really good Fallout TV show somehow. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, you know, so it's. <v Speaker 4>Just also just Starfield, like was the was Starfield the <v Speaker 4>first game actually done? You know, Like that's a big <v Speaker 4>question to begin with. Yeah, it seems like an odd choice. <v Speaker 1>Seems like a. <v Speaker 2>Not necessarily a boondog, not necessarily like like chasing some <v Speaker 2>dragon or something like. I think a Starfield two again <v Speaker 2>could if it does realize all the promise, would do <v Speaker 2>very well. <v Speaker 1>But you just have things that excuse me really bad. <v Speaker 1>I had to meet myself. <v Speaker 2>It seems like you have things that are are absolute <v Speaker 2>guaranteed winners again, as long as you deliver the games <v Speaker 2>as they need to be in terms of quality, which <v Speaker 2>is a question mark, but you kind of can't. I mean, <v Speaker 2>they've already said they're doing Elder Scroll six next, and <v Speaker 2>they've then they've said over and over they want to <v Speaker 2>do the next real Fallout sequel, So uh, you kind <v Speaker 2>of just go linearly from there, and we're talking still <v Speaker 2>like ten years before we get to a Starfield two. <v Speaker 2>At that point, it's like the comparison to Mass Effect, <v Speaker 2>right or Assassin's Creed, where okay, yeah, Mass Effect one <v Speaker 2>came out and a pretty good game, and then you <v Speaker 2>followed up Mass Effect two, and people are like, in <v Speaker 2>most accounts almost but you know, in most ways, this <v Speaker 2>is a better game that was. <v Speaker 1>That was three years later. <v Speaker 2>Assassin's Creed two was three years Assassage Crew two was <v Speaker 2>that even three years? <v Speaker 1>Was that? <v Speaker 3>I don't think it was. I think it was two years. <v Speaker 2>It was very quickly, you know, following up the first <v Speaker 2>games in both of those cases. And so by the <v Speaker 2>time we get to a realistically, by the time we <v Speaker 2>get to a Starfield two, if it's made by Bethesda <v Speaker 2>Game Studios, gaming will have changed so much yet again <v Speaker 2>that if they are just learning from their mistakes, there <v Speaker 2>will be a whole new like megalopolis of mistakes to <v Speaker 2>have learned from by that point, because they will be <v Speaker 2>not keeping up with the Joneses in so many ways. <v Speaker 2>So hey, again, I would like to see it, maybe, <v Speaker 2>but I want to see Elder Scroll six and fall <v Speaker 2>Out five first, please. <v Speaker 4>Yeah. I'm also just like, as you point out, with <v Speaker 4>the length of time that it takes for Beth is <v Speaker 4>going to make these games, it feels like by the <v Speaker 4>time of Starfield two is done, it's gonna be full <v Speaker 4>on Star Trek Holiday, Like we're we're gonna be living Starfield. <v Speaker 1>At that point. <v Speaker 4>I mean, isn't Starfield supposed to be like not that <v Speaker 4>far in the future anyways? <v Speaker 3>Yeah? <v Speaker 2>Yeah, And then another point that people in chatter making <v Speaker 2>I think this is good is maybe that the thing <v Speaker 2>to do with Starfield instead is the Nomance Sky thing <v Speaker 2>of you have this game already that people wanted to love, <v Speaker 2>so people do, but most people didn't. <v Speaker 1>People love it, most people. <v Speaker 2>Didn't, and there's still a foundation there though there is <v Speaker 2>stuff like there, there's things that like late in the <v Speaker 2>Lake game that people really fall in love. <v Speaker 1>With with the you know, they're doing the stuff over <v Speaker 1>and over again and how that changes things and that <v Speaker 1>it counts for your decisions. Most people don't get there. <v Speaker 2>Can you update and improve this game over the course <v Speaker 2>of the next ten years, the way nomance Sky did <v Speaker 2>with update after update and improvement after improvement, And maybe <v Speaker 2>that's the route to go with to show off what <v Speaker 2>you've learned from your mistakes for Starfield, as opposed to <v Speaker 2>because because that would like a smaller. <v Speaker 1>Team could do that. That is sure, that just seems <v Speaker 1>much more viable and welcomed. <v Speaker 2>Welcomed at this point, because again, I don't want them <v Speaker 2>distracted from making sequels to other games that they haven't <v Speaker 2>touched in a very long time. <v Speaker 1>All right, let's see here. <v Speaker 2>Yakuza Studio says Yakuzu Kawami on Switch is selling like <v Speaker 2>hotcakes and that their predicted numbers were way too conservative. <v Speaker 2>This is for my Nintendo news. Rio got Gotoko Studio <v Speaker 2>director Masayoshi Yokoyama has said in a recent live broadcast <v Speaker 2>that the newly released Yakaza Kawami for the Nintendo Switch <v Speaker 2>family of systems is currently selling like hotcakes. Yoko Yama <v Speaker 2>went on to say that the executives of the company <v Speaker 2>were predicting the number of units and he missed it <v Speaker 2>by a lot. I think I looked at it a <v Speaker 2>bit too conservatively. The game is only available digitally via <v Speaker 2>the Nintendo E Shop. The limited run games will be <v Speaker 2>producing a physical edition at a later date. <v Speaker 1>Yeah. <v Speaker 2>I mean, I think we're at a point where Yakas <v Speaker 2>is going to sell wherever it goes. The Lego Dragons <v Speaker 2>series has fully come into its own. It is a <v Speaker 2>well known quantity at this point, and if you can <v Speaker 2>get it on the switch, people will buy it on <v Speaker 2>the switch. I'm not too surprised by this. I think <v Speaker 2>it's like at this point, this is a cannon series <v Speaker 2>of video games where it's like everyone's like, oh, I <v Speaker 2>should be playing these Yeah, I. <v Speaker 4>Mean, you know we I was having a discussion the <v Speaker 4>other day with my husband about Sega and we were like, <v Speaker 4>what are Sega's really big games? And it was like, oh, <v Speaker 4>do they publish you know, the Yakuza games. And I <v Speaker 4>was like, yeah, they do. They have a hand of <v Speaker 4>publishing those games, and this has become one of their <v Speaker 4>flagship series at this point, which is crazy. Uh. I <v Speaker 4>got to play the Tokyo Game Show demo of the <v Speaker 4>Pirates in Hawaii game and. <v Speaker 3>It is an absolute delight. <v Speaker 4>Uh. There is a tiger and you can you can <v Speaker 4>put clothes on that on the little baby tiger that <v Speaker 4>follows you around. Yeah, I mean Yakuza rules, it's it's <v Speaker 4>it's goofy uh, it's you know, and like there's different <v Speaker 4>flavors of Yakuza. Light really has a lot of opinions <v Speaker 4>on the Yakuza games. Apparently he's like he's my baby tiger, <v Speaker 4>So yeah, I mean again, it's like there's tons of <v Speaker 4>ridiculous mini games. There's Yakuzas that are more turn based RPGs. <v Speaker 4>There's Yakazas that fall into its original format of the <v Speaker 4>beat them ups. Uh. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, there's just it. <v Speaker 4>They're they're fun, they're easy to jump in. Uh, and <v Speaker 4>you know, again, it's like just expanding where those games <v Speaker 4>are available. People have enough awareness of them that if <v Speaker 4>they've never played a like a Dragon Yakuza title, they're like, oh, okay, <v Speaker 4>well I only have a switch, so I'm gonna I'm gonna, <v Speaker 4>you know, check this out. <v Speaker 3>And yeah, it's like again, it's great. This is not <v Speaker 3>surprising to me at all. <v Speaker 1>Yeah. I think that. <v Speaker 2>It's one of those franchises that, like if you if <v Speaker 2>someone were a new streamer on Twitch and they were <v Speaker 2>like to like, what can I play to like get <v Speaker 2>an audience right away? There are certain franchises that are <v Speaker 2>obvious go tos, right, some like the from Games or <v Speaker 2>Resident Evil things like that. I think Yakuza is now. <v Speaker 2>It's one of those where if you start, if you <v Speaker 2>start streaming from Yakuzu Kawambi or Zero and you're promised <v Speaker 2>to play through a whole bunch of those games, You're <v Speaker 2>going to get an audience people who will love to <v Speaker 2>experience that with you because they love that franchise so much. <v Speaker 2>And I think I think that is kind of like <v Speaker 2>tells the story of why people will show up for <v Speaker 2>Yakuza Kawambi at thirty francs per second on the switch. Uh, <v Speaker 2>you know that that game originally was you know, yeah, <v Speaker 2>of course it's fine on the switch because it was <v Speaker 2>it was originally like what a PS two game? So <v Speaker 2>yeah that again, I just think that when when people <v Speaker 2>see this franchise now, they will perk up where it is. <v Speaker 2>So I'm glad they're taking advantage of it. And I <v Speaker 2>think we will expect most Yakuza games, like a Dragon <v Speaker 2>games now to maybe show up on the switch to <v Speaker 2>going forward if it's possible to get those to run, <v Speaker 2>which you know they are often like we're using technology, <v Speaker 2>so it might be able to just fine. <v Speaker 3>Could be Yeah. <v Speaker 2>All right, let's take a quick break. When we get back, <v Speaker 2>there is plenty more to talk about. Nintendo detailed what's <v Speaker 2>happening with Animal Crossing, Pocket Camp Complete version and more <v Speaker 2>after this. All right, we are back, and as I mentioned, <v Speaker 2>Animal Crossing Pocket Camp Complete edition got some details from Nintendo. <v Speaker 2>This is from Chris Scullion at VGUC. As a reminder, <v Speaker 2>this is the paid version of the formerly or soon <v Speaker 2>to be formally live. <v Speaker 1>Service game free to play a live service game. <v Speaker 2>Nintendo has revealed more details on its upcoming paid version <v Speaker 2>of Animal Crossing Pocket ca The company announced back in <v Speaker 2>August that the free to play mobile game Pocket Camp <v Speaker 2>would be ending on November twenty ninth, seven years after <v Speaker 2>it initially launched. Now it is announced that successor, which <v Speaker 2>will be titled Animal Crossing Pocket Camp Complete, will be <v Speaker 2>released on December third. The new Apple cost twenty dollars, <v Speaker 2>but will have an introductory price of ten dollars until <v Speaker 2>January thirty first. That's a smart move. Make people feel <v Speaker 2>like they're giving a deal by spending ten dollars instead. <v Speaker 2>Pocket Camp Complete will feature almost everything included in the <v Speaker 2>free to play version. With some exceptions, Players will be <v Speaker 2>able to transfer their save data by linking their existing <v Speaker 2>pocket Camp game data with a Nintendo account, then log <v Speaker 2>logging into pocket Camp Complete. <v Speaker 1>I just keep slamming this thing. <v Speaker 4>Ah. <v Speaker 3>I was like, you're just spinning a game Boy card. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, just like, just keep hitting the mic arm too. Hey, <v Speaker 2>I'm a big fan of this. I think the ten <v Speaker 2>dollars is a very fair price. Twenty dollars seems a <v Speaker 2>bit steep, and I think it's kind of at that <v Speaker 2>point it goes up with the twenty dollars kind of <v Speaker 2>dooms the game to people never really. <v Speaker 1>Trying it out. <v Speaker 2>But whatever they made the game, it ran as a <v Speaker 2>live service for seven years. And if you want to <v Speaker 2>have access to this thing that will now be would <v Speaker 2>have otherwise been completely an accept inaccessible. This is fantastic <v Speaker 2>and it just sounds like it's going to be a <v Speaker 2>video game now. <v Speaker 1>That rules. Yeah. <v Speaker 3>I mean I had lots of tour Guide friends. <v Speaker 4>I remember back back in the day that we're all <v Speaker 4>playing pocket Camp on their phones. I think I was <v Speaker 4>deeply into what was it newlyaf on the DS at <v Speaker 4>that point. <v Speaker 1>Absolutely, that was a great entry in the series. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, it was so fun. <v Speaker 1>Yeah. <v Speaker 4>I mean, look, Animal Crossing is an easy game to <v Speaker 4>get into, so making it a real mobile game, I <v Speaker 4>think it's a It's a good gamble on their part, yep. <v Speaker 2>I mean it's it provides long term access to the game. <v Speaker 2>It saves them from having to continue to support it <v Speaker 2>in an active way, and so they could save money <v Speaker 2>on that side, and then it could just exist there <v Speaker 2>and all that work didn't just evaporate. So yeah, A <v Speaker 2>huge fan of this move. I think it's the right way. <v Speaker 2>If any developer can pull this off going forward, I <v Speaker 2>think this should be the model. And I understand a <v Speaker 2>lot of smaller teams are not going to have the <v Speaker 2>ability to be like, well, we're not making money from <v Speaker 2>this anymore, so let's spend time and money setting it <v Speaker 2>up for the future so people here and there can <v Speaker 2>spend twenty bucks on this thing. And we know people <v Speaker 2>mostly aren't going to do that, So I get why <v Speaker 2>this doesn't happen very frequently, but I'm glad Nintendo at <v Speaker 2>the very least it's out there showing it can be <v Speaker 2>done when you have the resources, and a company like <v Speaker 2>Nintendo that has the resources isn't just like being like, well, <v Speaker 2>that's not going to make us a lot of money, <v Speaker 2>so we're not going to do that. <v Speaker 1>I think, well, yeah, good move. <v Speaker 4>And again doing that introductory ten dollars price, I think <v Speaker 4>they're going to see since it's a limited time deal, <v Speaker 4>I think they'll see a huge amount of sales in <v Speaker 4>that time, particularly. <v Speaker 1>From people who are buy it in that time. Yeah. <v Speaker 4>Oh yeah, just to have it, yeah exactly, yeah, in <v Speaker 4>case I want to get into it. <v Speaker 2>Right, yeah, just like having around I mean, like, you know, <v Speaker 2>especially the girls who knows when like Animal Crossing is <v Speaker 2>definitely something like that, and be like I'm interested in <v Speaker 2>this and it's like, yeah, there's a point where maybe <v Speaker 2>it makes sense just to having to play this complete <v Speaker 2>edition on the phone, where maybe things are one simpler <v Speaker 2>Maybe I don't know, we'll see maybe simpler than Animal Crossing. <v Speaker 2>Who knew it was possible? <v Speaker 3>Who knew to get? Who could be it easier than that? <v Speaker 1>All right? <v Speaker 2>Blizzard's insanely expensive World of Warcraft mount is hugely popular. <v Speaker 2>This is from Marcus Person at Game Reactor, and I <v Speaker 2>did include this because I was watching Mike play Wow <v Speaker 2>and I saw one of these ninety dollars mounts. Yesterday <v Speaker 2>we reported on Blizzard's new time limited amount for World <v Speaker 2>of Warcraft. A dinosaur priced at ninety US dollars at <v Speaker 2>first glanet might seem a bit absurd, but despite the <v Speaker 2>hefty price tag, it's selling exceptionally well. The Ornate Trader's <v Speaker 2>gilded Brutosaur has actually cost a shortage of Wow tokens <v Speaker 2>in the auction house. As we know, tokens can be <v Speaker 2>used for a variety of things in the game, but <v Speaker 2>due to the extreme demand created by this new mount, <v Speaker 2>prices have skyrocketed. Over On Reddit, one user reported the <v Speaker 2>auction house is Wow token right now is out of <v Speaker 2>Wow token supply, since you need supplies to this is <v Speaker 2>a crazy sentence. <v Speaker 1>I'm gonna start over. <v Speaker 2>The auction house's Wow tokens right now is out of <v Speaker 2>Wow token supplies. Since you need suppliers to supply the <v Speaker 2>demand and currently skyrocketing given the three percent price cap <v Speaker 2>per twenty minutes, basically you need an economic studien, right yeah, yeah, <v Speaker 2>Adam Smith was talking about Wow when he was writing <v Speaker 2>The Wealth of Nations. Either way, Okay, this is when <v Speaker 2>we think about, Hey, why doesn't Wow make a new <v Speaker 2>like StarCraft? <v Speaker 1>Because they'll this is gonna make more money than all <v Speaker 1>of starcupt two. <v Speaker 3>This amount put a dinosaur in. <v Speaker 1>Wow. Yes, it's gonna make it. <v Speaker 2>It's gonna make like multiple times more than StarCraft you made. <v Speaker 2>Uh And good for them, I guess, but also hold <v Speaker 2>no man kind of wish making games was the successful <v Speaker 2>strategy instead of selling dinosaurs. <v Speaker 4>Yeah. Look, I am very sad to say that this <v Speaker 4>is not at all surprising to me, and a lot <v Speaker 4>of that I think boils down to this. <v Speaker 3>I have a. <v Speaker 4>Friend who loves every single Jurassic film. <v Speaker 3>And all of the new ones are. <v Speaker 4>I would I would actually hazard to say pretty much <v Speaker 4>all of them after the first one are objectively not great. <v Speaker 1>Not great at the a not great. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, but they're But this friend of mine sees dinosaur. <v Speaker 3>That's all they see. They don't pay attention to. <v Speaker 4>Anything else that is happening in those Jurassic films. They're <v Speaker 4>just like cool dinosaurs. And there are a lot of <v Speaker 4>people that are like this. <v Speaker 1>Yes there are. <v Speaker 2>Paul Reiker it's one of them, I believe, Yeah, and <v Speaker 2>says that that will just go see any of those <v Speaker 2>movies because although I think he was disappointed in the <v Speaker 2>last one because it was more about I haven't seen <v Speaker 2>the last one's more about a plague insects or something. <v Speaker 1>Locust sounds like a good time. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, right, And so if you're gonna have a ninety <v Speaker 2>dollars amount in a video game, making it a really <v Speaker 2>big dinosaur, and this thing is huge, and apparently it <v Speaker 2>also serves like function like functions where I think it <v Speaker 2>can act as your home base, like where mail gets delivered. <v Speaker 1>I don't understand. I don't play. <v Speaker 2>Wow, that's what Mike was saying last night, and he <v Speaker 2>seemed like, oh, that's a that's a big benefit. He <v Speaker 2>also pointed out when I was watching him play that <v Speaker 2>there was a version of this or a different version <v Speaker 2>something similar that you could get with in game gold <v Speaker 2>and that was a million in gangle in gangle who <v Speaker 2>in game gold and that was that's a lot of money. <v Speaker 1>Apparently I remember, wow and wow, yes. <v Speaker 2>So some people did do that, but now everyone is <v Speaker 2>just spending ninety dollars and think, hey, this is this <v Speaker 2>is like a hobby game, right, this is people we <v Speaker 2>have put the game for decades. Ninety dollars ain't shipped <v Speaker 2>to them at this point. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, I get it. <v Speaker 2>Nanorpus and Chat points out that there's more to the <v Speaker 2>tokens shortage than just this. At the same time, Call <v Speaker 2>of Duty released and the New Diablo expansion released, and <v Speaker 2>you can confer Wow gold into Battlenet credit for buying <v Speaker 2>other games, and so people. <v Speaker 1>Probably did that as well. <v Speaker 2>Again, Hey, if anyone has a good resource for understanding <v Speaker 2>the economics of all this, I'm I really really like <v Speaker 2>that kind of stuff. So if anyone's got a good explainer, <v Speaker 2>a video, a documentary, uh, send it to my way. <v Speaker 1>I would read up and understand understand exactly how that works. <v Speaker 2>Yep, Okay, new gameplay footage of the new Shnobi game <v Speaker 2>from Sega and Lizard Cube got revealed. This is from <v Speaker 2>my Nintendo news. Actually I got the video here and <v Speaker 2>just because it looks so good, I will get it <v Speaker 2>up for everybody here. <v Speaker 1>Let's see there browser, there we go. <v Speaker 2>Okay, Yes, as I mentioned, this is from Minded to <v Speaker 2>Know News. Sega and Lizard Cube have been working closely <v Speaker 2>together on a reboot of the iconic Shannoby franchise to <v Speaker 2>getting more footage from the game has leaked online, probably <v Speaker 2>to the dismay of both companies. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's okay. Mark of the. <v Speaker 2>Ninja is what it looks the most like uh but <v Speaker 2>still like in terms of visuals, but in terms of <v Speaker 2>the way it plays, it looks very much like Shnoby. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I'm excited about that. <v Speaker 2>Lizard Cube is the team that did I think Streets <v Speaker 2>of Rage four. Oh okay, like they worked with dot <v Speaker 2>Emu on Streets Rage four. <v Speaker 1>I believe. <v Speaker 2>I believe that's right, and uh, I think that's the <v Speaker 2>other reason. The other reason I really included this story <v Speaker 2>because I might be a lizard Cube mark. They do <v Speaker 2>good work, and this is just this is really looking <v Speaker 2>like it could live up to the promise if this <v Speaker 2>is the kind of like it seems like Sega with <v Speaker 2>these revitals of older franchises is going to run the <v Speaker 2>gamut where it's like, no, here is a two D <v Speaker 2>Shanoby that looks shit hot and you should be excited <v Speaker 2>about it if you're someone who's into like retro games. <v Speaker 2>And then on the other side, we're going to be <v Speaker 2>doing new big three D games for some of these <v Speaker 2>franchises as well. So I think that's a really smart <v Speaker 2>move where it's like we're not going to just have <v Speaker 2>one idea of what these games should be. We're gonna <v Speaker 2>like talk to developers, we're gonna have ideas and we're <v Speaker 2>gonna run with whatever makes sense, And looking at this game, <v Speaker 2>it makes it looks like it makes a lot of <v Speaker 2>sense for a new Shnoby. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, it looks really cool. <v Speaker 4>I feel like I played some of those earlier descendants <v Speaker 4>of Shnoby games. But yeah, I mean again, it's like <v Speaker 4>I like when a company takes a video game and <v Speaker 4>it takes that retro format and it just gives it <v Speaker 4>the quality of life, updates the polish but keeps that <v Speaker 4>two D side scrolling. I mean again, it's like Streets <v Speaker 4>of Age four was awesome. Yes, and yeah, it's just <v Speaker 4>it's nice to see preserving formats that worked, but adjusting <v Speaker 4>them for the modern gamer. If that makes sense. <v Speaker 1>Yes, definitely it's. <v Speaker 2>And I think Sega like being like, hey, okay, we <v Speaker 2>are doing okay with Sonic at this moment, seems like <v Speaker 2>they're actually yeah yeah yeah with Sonic after us Sonic <v Speaker 2>Cross Shadow Generations. I don't know how that's how you <v Speaker 2>say it, Sonic Shadow Generations, and then obviously Yakuza firing <v Speaker 2>on all cylinders. <v Speaker 1>Atlas couldn't be doing better. The Persona games. <v Speaker 2>Continue to sell back each entry and now Metaphor Refantasio <v Speaker 2>has been a massive success for them, So it's like, okay, well, <v Speaker 2>I mean we want to grow, and we're growing. We've <v Speaker 2>grown with a lot of stuff that kind of wasn't <v Speaker 2>our bag when we were the sixteen bit company that <v Speaker 2>once was challenging Nintendo. So we have variety already that <v Speaker 2>gives us freedom and the latitude to actually go back <v Speaker 2>and take those franchises and do something more with them. Yeah, <v Speaker 2>and again, I think that's it's as long as you <v Speaker 2>don't just come there with the prescribed idea of what <v Speaker 2>those games should be, what they have to be. <v Speaker 1>I think you're probably going to come out with. <v Speaker 2>At least a couple of those that will hit and <v Speaker 2>find an audience, and you know, Streets Age four, as <v Speaker 2>you said, evidence of that already. <v Speaker 1>So very excited. <v Speaker 2>All right, A couple more stories here. Video game preservation <v Speaker 2>efforts just got some bad news from the US Copyright Office. <v Speaker 2>This is from Blair Marnell at GameSpot. Three years ago, <v Speaker 2>the Software Preservation Preservation Network and the Video Game History <v Speaker 2>Foundation put forth a petition to the US Copyright Office <v Speaker 2>to allow libraries to share the out of print video <v Speaker 2>games in their possession with researchers remotely. <v Speaker 1>However, that request. <v Speaker 2>Has now been denied, and it means that this battle <v Speaker 2>to keep out of print games alive has come to <v Speaker 2>an end. The Copyright Office, sided with the Entertainment Software <v Speaker 2>Association and other video game lobbyists, arguments that letting libraries <v Speaker 2>share digital access to their titles would lead to a <v Speaker 2>significant risk that preserved video games would be used for <v Speaker 2>recreational purposes. Essentially, the argument is that researchers enjoying the <v Speaker 2>remote games would constitute copyright infringement. You're not allowed to <v Speaker 2>enjoy things when you're researching things. Everyone knows that. The <v Speaker 2>Video Game History Foundation released a statement to crying the decision, <v Speaker 2>while pointing out that it helped to prove that around <v Speaker 2>eighty seven percent of video game releases in the United <v Speaker 2>States before twenty ten remain out of print and actively. <v Speaker 1>Just not making money for anybody. <v Speaker 2>It was very funny because the decision had like there <v Speaker 2>was like a list of sources for like how they <v Speaker 2>came to this decision, and one of the things they <v Speaker 2>cited was Frank Sofaldi from the Video Game History Foundation. <v Speaker 2>A talk he gave at GDC explaining how important it <v Speaker 2>is to access these old games. And the reasoning was like, <v Speaker 2>and this thing right here from Frank Sefaldi is why <v Speaker 2>we can't let people access old games. And he's like, well, <v Speaker 2>this is my hell, this is I can't are being <v Speaker 2>used against me, And clearly they just didn't understand what <v Speaker 2>I was saying. Now I get where the ESA feels like. <v Speaker 2>You know, if someone could just say they're a library <v Speaker 2>and put all these games online and uh, then they <v Speaker 2>could then people could just go there and play them <v Speaker 2>and pretend that they're playing in research for purposes and <v Speaker 2>enjoy them. <v Speaker 1>It seems like a solvable problem, right. It seems like <v Speaker 1>like accredited libraries. <v Speaker 4>That's literally exactly what I was about to say. I <v Speaker 4>was like, libraries need accreditation. So yeah, you just have <v Speaker 4>to have a little bit of infrastructure in place, and <v Speaker 4>you can do this very easily. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, we do it all the time for all kinds <v Speaker 2>of stuff. A little bit of regulation, a tiny little bit, <v Speaker 2>would go a long way here. And you know, maybe <v Speaker 2>it's really hard to uh to actually get the approval <v Speaker 2>to be one of these libraries that can do that. <v Speaker 2>I would be fine with that as well, because I <v Speaker 2>think some of these libraries the video game History Foundation <v Speaker 2>would do the work to make that happen, and they <v Speaker 2>would pull their hair out if they had to, but <v Speaker 2>they would get it done, and everyone else would just <v Speaker 2>be like, well, I can't fake them on a library <v Speaker 2>that well, I'm not able to excuse to be able <v Speaker 2>to do that. But you know, in the meantime, being <v Speaker 2>able to access these old games for research purposes, even <v Speaker 2>if you're having fun, continues to be, in my opinion, <v Speaker 2>a moral right, Like it is something where people need <v Speaker 2>to know the history of this of this medium. These <v Speaker 2>companies don't respect that. That doesn't matter. You should go <v Speaker 2>play them anyhow, Go find these games however, you can <v Speaker 2>play them, build up a library of knowledge personally so <v Speaker 2>that you understand where this medium has come from and <v Speaker 2>how it's grown and changed. And that's going to make <v Speaker 2>for better games in the future. So it continues to <v Speaker 2>be important regardless of what the US Copyright Office says, <v Speaker 2>And I hope that the Video Game History Foundation and <v Speaker 2>others find other ways to pushing this point and making <v Speaker 2>this point over and over again. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, this is such a Nintendo move, you know what <v Speaker 4>I mean, Like Nintendo being like, don't emulate our games <v Speaker 4>that aren't making that aren't available anywhere, and nobody's making <v Speaker 4>any money off of and also it was a third <v Speaker 4>party title in the first place, and ugh. <v Speaker 2>Yep, and there's all like you know, there have been <v Speaker 2>I mean, now Nintendo's been cracking down some of these websites. <v Speaker 2>But you just go to and you click a button <v Speaker 2>and the emultor just starts up on. <v Speaker 1>The web page and it just works. <v Speaker 3>And it just works. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, and it's like that's stuffs already out there. <v Speaker 4>It's not hurting this is no, it's not hurting anything. <v Speaker 4>And and here's my other thing is that these are <v Speaker 4>this is not the right group of people to like <v Speaker 4>bar some sort of entry to because gamers are going <v Speaker 4>to find. <v Speaker 3>Ways to pirate these games and emulate them, you know, because. <v Speaker 4>That is the only way that they have been preserved, <v Speaker 4>because they're not in any sort of publication anymore. <v Speaker 3>So again and it's like you just. <v Speaker 1>Why not. <v Speaker 4>Say yes and have that again tiny bit of regulation <v Speaker 4>in place to basically make sure that these are accredited <v Speaker 4>libraries and have these things in a single place where <v Speaker 4>people are basically guaranteed to not be making any money <v Speaker 4>off of them because they just like exist in an <v Speaker 4>archive that is accessible. <v Speaker 2>Yep, and you know, find your own way. Then if <v Speaker 2>the United States government is not going to recognize the <v Speaker 2>importance of having a library that exists online for people <v Speaker 2>to access video games, which yeah, these are digital goods, <v Speaker 2>this is it would be super beneficial to education across <v Speaker 2>the board. Fine, we'll do it ourselves, and that's the <v Speaker 2>way it's going to continue to be. And I back <v Speaker 2>anyone that's like says I want to play this game <v Speaker 2>because I want to know about this game, they'll find <v Speaker 2>a way to play the game starways. <v Speaker 1>Absolutely, yep, all right. <v Speaker 2>Hideo Kojima wants to make the kinds of games aliens <v Speaker 2>will call cool centuries from now. <v Speaker 1>This is from Amber Vin. <v Speaker 2>Automaton, Death Stranding, and Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima <v Speaker 2>recently sat down to answer questions from his fans in <v Speaker 2>an interview with a non News Apart from talking about <v Speaker 2>personal trivia such as his attraction to smart women who <v Speaker 2>do science, the game director also gave interesting insights about <v Speaker 2>his mindset as a creator. Kojumo thinks that the most <v Speaker 2>important thing a game creator should strive for is to <v Speaker 2>make games they are personally satisfied with. I cannot put <v Speaker 2>out a game that I don't feel convinced by Well, <v Speaker 2>it may sound obvious at first, Kojima is talking about <v Speaker 2>in the sense of making something that you wouldn't mind <v Speaker 2>representing you, even in the distant future, when you're long gone. <v Speaker 2>For starters, the way art is evaluated changes with the times. <v Speaker 2>Just as paintings are appraised one hundred or two hundred <v Speaker 2>years after the artist's death, games and films also remain <v Speaker 2>as objects to be passed down through generations after their <v Speaker 2>creators pass away. If I make something I'm satisfied with <v Speaker 2>centuries later, aliens may come and say that's awesome. I <v Speaker 2>think that's what it means to leave something behind. Hell yeah, coach, <v Speaker 2>that's incredible. That's they will come and say that's awesome. <v Speaker 2>I think the aliens are gonna think it's tubular in Calabungabla. <v Speaker 4>Yeah. <v Speaker 3>Absolutely, Yeah. <v Speaker 2>If you're making something and you're thinking on those long terms, <v Speaker 2>they're that long about a timeline where it's like, hey, <v Speaker 2>at some point aliens may look at this. <v Speaker 1>I hope they're impressed. <v Speaker 2>I bet that only helps you make more interesting decisions <v Speaker 2>when you're building a video game. <v Speaker 4>Just the fact that he goes straight to aliens is wild. <v Speaker 4>It's not a you know, I want historians to uh, <v Speaker 4>you know, look back on my games and see that <v Speaker 4>they had historical relevance and you know, made made a <v Speaker 4>chain and video games and left an impression. No, no, no, <v Speaker 4>I hope that aliens thousands of years from now. <v Speaker 3>My video games are cool. <v Speaker 1>Yep. <v Speaker 2>And I hope so too, Kojum, I hope, I hope <v Speaker 2>you get exactly that last story here, Tim Walls and <v Speaker 2>AOC played Madden and Crazy Taxi. <v Speaker 1>Oh my god. <v Speaker 3>It was so funny, cute, it was amazing. <v Speaker 1>Yep. I was very happy with it. It was great <v Speaker 1>to hear. <v Speaker 2>For one thing, Rebecca Valentine absolutely nailing the reporting that <v Speaker 2>the Dreamcast that Tim Walls owned he primarily used to <v Speaker 2>play Crazy Taxi. She was right that that was his <v Speaker 2>favorite game. He after they got done playing Madden. The <v Speaker 2>whole idea was me and AOC are going to play Madden. <v Speaker 2>They got done and he's said, I'm gonna play some <v Speaker 2>crazy time Crazy Taxi and he started talking about how <v Speaker 2>it was not right. <v Speaker 4>But it wasn't on a Dreamcast controller, so he was like, <v Speaker 4>I don't know what the buttons did. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, so good, it was. <v Speaker 2>It was pretty cool. To just hear him talking about <v Speaker 2>like was my I had a real job with some <v Speaker 2>real money. I won the best console, the Dreamcast. I <v Speaker 2>thought it was going to take over the world. The <v Speaker 2>Dreamcast was so good. We all did tim trust me? <v Speaker 1>We know? <v Speaker 2>And then uh uh and then he was just playing <v Speaker 2>the game and enjoying it, and it was it was <v Speaker 2>a very cool thing to see. So the potential for <v Speaker 2>a gamer in the White House finally and uh, you know, <v Speaker 2>true gamer true gamer parentheses positive. Yeah, I don't know. <v Speaker 2>It was just a very fun stream when I did <v Speaker 2>check in on it. Yeah, okay, I got a pull <v Speaker 2>question to work with here in a second. Let me <v Speaker 2>get that going. Uh all right, let me frame that <v Speaker 2>up properly. Who is the best gamer in the GV <v Speaker 2>Extended family? Extended family your choice? Your choices are Kayla <v Speaker 2>or Hey yeah, Kaylau. <v Speaker 1>So there you go. <v Speaker 2>Kayla has Its won that one with seventy five percent <v Speaker 2>of the vote, and then she also won with twenty <v Speaker 2>five percent of the vote. <v Speaker 1>Good for her, she h, she has. <v Speaker 2>I don't think she's done much with the let it <v Speaker 2>Slide stage yet, which I've done. I've done very well. <v Speaker 2>On Me and Jesse are trading back times on that <v Speaker 2>back and forth. But I think once Kayla shows up <v Speaker 2>once again, we'll be in trouble. So although apparently I did, <v Speaker 2>I did cause her much agitation where she spent eight <v Speaker 2>hours trying to beat my time on the last stage <v Speaker 2>and never could do it. So but I still would <v Speaker 2>never want to challenge her directly. I believe that she <v Speaker 2>would destroy me and all that love. <v Speaker 1>That kind of games. All right, we got a new <v Speaker 1>poole question. We'll get to that in a second. <v Speaker 2>Before we do, though, Emma Fife, why don't you tell <v Speaker 2>people what you got going on where they can find <v Speaker 2>you on the internet and all of that good stuff. <v Speaker 3>Boy oh boy? Uh So apparently people use blue. <v Speaker 4>Sky now, so I am on that app along with <v Speaker 4>other ones wherein you will just find me at Emma Fife, <v Speaker 4>which is my name, and mostly I think you'll find <v Speaker 4>me here with my cats. I do actually have two. <v Speaker 4>They usually only see one of them on this year program. <v Speaker 4>And then I'll be yeah, maybe, who knows. I keep <v Speaker 4>threatening in my brain to maybe stream on my Twitch <v Speaker 4>channel again sometimes, so I'll let y'all know when I <v Speaker 4>do that. <v Speaker 3>I'll probably be playing haities too, because. <v Speaker 1>That's yeah, all right. <v Speaker 2>Uh, we'll definitely definitely give a follow on Blue Skum. <v Speaker 2>I'm using I'm using Blue Ski a lot more now <v Speaker 2>I'm not. I'm not gonna leave Twitter. I was there first. <v Speaker 2>I'm just gonna keep using it as well. <v Speaker 1>Whatever. It's miserable to use though, So. <v Speaker 3>I have it, but I don't look at it. <v Speaker 2>I go I go to Blue Ski instead, where I'm like, hey, <v Speaker 2>this is not miserable. This is kind of nice. So <v Speaker 2>that's why I'm using it more, just because it's more pleasant. <v Speaker 2>But yeah, so I'm just I think I'm grub at <v Speaker 2>whatever the Blue Sky stuff is on there. Okay, let's <v Speaker 2>see new poll question, do you want a Starfield two? <v Speaker 4>There? <v Speaker 1>You go there, it is right there, just yes or no. <v Speaker 2>I'm just interested to see what people's initial knee jerk <v Speaker 2>reaction is to that. Do you want a Starfield two? <v Speaker 1>Yes? <v Speaker 2>No, those are your only options. We'll discuss the results <v Speaker 2>of that on Game Mes Mornings here on Giant Bomb <v Speaker 2>on Wednesday, speaking a Giant Bomb. On Tuesday Tomorrow we'll <v Speaker 2>have the Giant BombCast returning. Should be a good time <v Speaker 2>looking forward to that. Then later this week we'll have <v Speaker 2>plenty of fun stuff. Although I think I'm traveling on Friday. Yeah, <v Speaker 2>I think a lot of us are traveling on Friday <v Speaker 2>because we're going to Dan's to do Extra life. <v Speaker 1>Oh that's right, this weekend. I think that's crazy. <v Speaker 2>So we're putting some plans together for that and it <v Speaker 2>should be a good time. <v Speaker 1>So definitely all weekend we'll have giant bomb stuff for you. <v Speaker 1>It'll be a good time, all right. <v Speaker 2>Anything else I should mention, yeah, like Blake Club should <v Speaker 2>be back, all that good stuff. <v Speaker 1>So keep your eyes peeled. <v Speaker 2>In the meantime, though, Emma, thank you so much for <v Speaker 2>hanging out with me today and talking about video games. <v Speaker 2>I really appreciate it. <v Speaker 3>Of course, anytime. <v Speaker 2>Thank you all for tuning in, thank you for listening <v Speaker 2>and watching. You are the best audience in gaming. And <v Speaker 2>until next time, have a good one, take care of yourself. <v Speaker 2>And yes, Jan, the famicom means family computer.
