The Wife Aquatic (S18E10)

Four Finger Discount (Simpsons Podcast)

Can you believe it? Homer makes an effort! Trust us, we were just as surprised as you were. Honestly though this was quite an enjoyable story that saw Homer take the family to Barnacle Bay, in order for Marge to relive a happy childhood memory.

It then transitions into a parody of The Perfect Storm, with an environmental message at the end. A bit of a mixed bag, but hey, at least we got introduced to Fausto!

Finger Discount dude. Welcome to Fourthinger Discount. This week we're here to review
episode j aBFT zero three. It is the wife of quality Guam Dando and
I am guying. Yes, get ready for some watery fun. As I
occasionally said, Oh I never say that to anybody. He leves get wet.
The first ten rowers will get it. Remember when you're a kid,
or you know, when you're adult. Luck you and I in summer,
when you get the slip and side out in the backyard, that's like an
Australian the Australian essential, isn't it? For Sumer? The slip and slide,
slip and slide. Yeah, is it a worldwide thing? Do you
think it's not caught a slip and slide anywere but Australia don't think Well,
just as if you refer to thongs in other parts of the world that you're
like, why are you talking about your underpand yeah, why are you wearing
them on your feet? A freak? Are you slip and slide? For
those of you there underwear, let's google slip and slide and simply call overseas.
Basically, it's just why are they charging so much money for this?
I don't understand unless it's got the because sometimes you got built in sprinkles on
the side. Correct, yes, that's the deluxe model. But if you
grew up in Cryer like me, you basically just you went down to Buddings
and you bought a long tarp and you just sprayed it with the hose and
just wept over. I thought, because you brought a whole lot of plastic
rubbish eggs and cut them, cut their sides down and just made yeah,
like a nice long plastic runway. Yeah that you then wet and then you
jumped on on your belly and slid. Notice when I said Heckla grew up
in Kara. I noticed how I said, bought with quotation marks. Poor
old Bunnings. Oh they're doing it tough. Hey, they've got their sausage
thistles there five they do, indeed, charge like three fifty of sausage.
Now I'm like, what is this ridiculousness? That is insane. I haven't
been to a sausages a long a while, and I used to love doing
it. Dollar snag, yes indeed. Well, yeah, I know I'd
always give them a gold coin, but never never two, often a one.
It's been a long time since there's been the gold coin donation. I'm
pretty sure at the Bunnings barbecues, but I'm a driving past it, they're
going three fifty and extra for onion. What the fuck? I know?
That is highway robbery. It is highway robbery, it is indeed. So
we went to the footy to see the girls play the Gelong Cats. They
beat the Bombers last Sunday. Ali was very excited about that, and as
was Holly. They're in the finals and all that stuff. But they have
the sausage ligles there for the local footy clubs and things like that, and
it was like three dollars fifty for a sausage, and I was like,
okay, so I had three dollars fifty in my pocket. Wouldn't take my
cash? Excuse me? Only taking card? What kind of sausage Shue doesn't
take fucking cash. I've got gold coins in my pocket. You may have
them. We don't want your gold coins, we want we want your card.
Excuse me, I've got legal tender here. Yeah, and in exchange
for a sausage. I'm like, I get it at the food stalls because
you know, there's long lines that's got to get people in and out right
whatever, what of it? But this is a sausage sizzle. What is
happening here? Sausage sizzles were invented to separate you from your cash. No,
she said to me, you can put it in the tip jar.
I'm like, I'll put it in the tip jar and then you'll give you
the sausage. No, no, no, you're got to pay for the
sausage. But that's for tips. I'm like, wait a minute, look
the fuck is going on here? This tippic culture has become insane. Having
said that, please be consider becoming a patron. No tippic culture is nuts.
I was like, I had to pause for a second. I was
like, what's going on here? My being rauted? Which is like you
put in the tip. I was like, good idea, good idea,
I'll put it in here, and then you give me the sausage. I
no, no, no Ah, that's extra. What the hell? Man?
Yeah, I've never experienced sausages that wouldn't accept my gold coins. No,
you're not about to get a tip for this service. Now, let
me forget about it at all. Was it a fan? But I'm assuming
you're a fan of going to Barle's. That's where are going right now?
So guy will not be on next week's episode of four finger Discount and be
Ali, Ja and Neil for since the index. But let's talk about your
trips are going over there? You want to talk about way going over now?
Just there are multiples, namely two teeth in my mouth that are not
functioning well at the moment. I mentioned this on other episodes of four Figure
Discount or one of the many shows that we do on the Full Fingered Discount
network, But I clearly the little bit of teeth grinding during COVID or maybe
just life yeah, but we have one of the teeth on my bottom jaw
has just decided to snap. So yeah, I've got a broken tooth which
is and a little tingly nervous, doting to get exposed a little bit.
And every time I take a drink water, oh just about put anything.
Okay, I found sometimes when I got teethache or tooth tooth. Toothache,
isn't it. Yeah, toothache when it's like a cold drink, it's the
worst because it's like lingers on your tooth for a while. You become like
that person on the on the Sense of iron Ad, you know, the
for sensitive teeth. But you're gonna have to start investing in yeah, yeah,
sort of all they do that very gentle oh yeah, although you're probably
like, ah so fuck so, yes there's that one that needs to get
seen too, sooner rather than later. And then yes, got a well
something with another tooth that's starting to get a little bit exposed as well,
because look, there's a lot of great DNA in the Davis strand, but
teeth is not one of them. I think we're sort of a now for
having crap teeth. Okay, So and plus you know, I'm lazy.
I don't take care of my brushing habits were terrible when I was younger.
It wasn't until I really met Nichola that I became like proper two minutes each
time, twice a day kind of brushing. When I was like a teenager,
it was a kill. My mom would be like, brush your teeth,
and she's like, brush your teeth. Yeah, yeah, she'd never
double check, like I never did. What is it like? Margaret Mary's
very big on it. She was always very big on clean your teeth.
Yeah, and so is Nicola. This is the thing I says to Nicola
that I'm like, you know, you're, you know, so prudent with
your teeth, like brush them two three minutes every time, two sometimes three
times a day. Yeah. Who's got the feelings? And who hasn't?
Nikola has and I haven't. She's straight out of the Big Book of British
smart. I the Lovely Wis has got teeth that are just immaculate. Nicholas.
Her teeth look great, yeah, yeah, whereas mine kind of you
know, I've got a history of red wine, black coffee and cigarettes and
you know, grinding due to various anxieties and just general sort of what's neglect.
Yeah, I was feeling my teeth the other day and they're so all
over the place. Now I'm like, what the fuck they're so out of
line. I'm like, do I need to get braces or something. I
don't know if he wants me saying this, but I don't think he listened.
So he went. But los brother's got the invisil line thing happening now.
I love the invisible braces. Yeah. Expensive, right, I don't
think they come cheap. Yeah he was. I'm like, I didn't even
know they really are in VISI line. Good for you? Yeah, I
know I might need it because my teeth lock all over the shop. Yeah.
I mean I had braces when I was when I was younger and took
them up and like, oh wow, teeth, that's great. And then
I don't know if I again neglected the whole. Now you've got to where
your what's that thing that you get after you have your braces? It's like
that, I know, I know what you mean. Yeah, the plate
or yeah, yeah, and various things that are sort of gonna okay,
we straighten them up. This will help keep them straight. Now, don't
forget to do this. Oh no, no, of course I'll do that.
I really did that, and yeah, as a result, everything sort
of started to the tectonic plates have started to shift once again. So the
upshot of this is d industry is expensive. Getting your teeth scene too,
is not a cheap thing. I was looking around local interests and yeah,
because well, he's the thing. The last time we went to Bali.
Before we went, I'd broken the exact same tooth on the other side,
and you know, got a quote and they said, oh no, that's
going that's going to need a crown that's about two thousand bucks. I'm like,
yeah, well, and I said that because I had a thing in
my mouth. But luckily, you know, we booked this holiday to Bali
and I think lou mentions like maybe looking to go to the dentist over there.
Apparently they're pretty inexpensive, and I'm like, I don't think I'm going
to, you know, a dentist in Bali. God knows what they might
do to me and where they might do it. I had that feel it
was a complete snob. I've got a friend who this is like three weeks
ago, just go back from Barty to get a breast my breast in plants
done. I was like, and like, my friend it was his wife,
Sorry, not my friends. He's like, my wife just got back
from Barli getting her breast her boobs done. And I was like, okay,
keep that a secret. I'm like, did you go with it?
No? No, no, I'm like, you got to go to Ballei
by herself. Get I'm like, I just wouldn't trust it at all.
I'm sorry, nothing against Bali, but like another country, foreign language.
You've heard all the horror stories I did. I did a bunch of research,
well by which I mean I did a quick google and it's like,
oh, apparently you know a lot of dentists are training in Australia and then
they returned to Bali and set up shop there, and cheapest strains like me
will go over and it's like, oh, you'll do what was going to
cost me two thousand dollars in Australia, you'll do it for five hundred dollars.
Yere Okay, fine, So this time a third appointment comes with a
free bing Tang shirt. That's what that's what the anesthetic is. There's anesthetics
bing Tang. But the last time I went I was like, Okay,
let's get this done. And ye know, the service was fantastic. I
can't fault the work at all. It's been. It's been marvelous. They
were very very effective, very sensitive, all that kind of stuff. So
this time when I'm like, ah, look this has given me grief and
I don't really want to, you know, have to put up with this
a over the whole day season or whatever. Looked at the schedule coming up
into you know, for the rest of the year, fastiff season, and
you want teeth to be feeling fine, that is correct. Yes, I
don't want to be sort of no, well, you know, I'll take
a bite of a turkey leg and then just be crunch the numbers like I
can. I can fly over and back, have this period of accommodation and
get teeth done for pretty much the same amount as just getting it done here.
Now, some of them will rational among you may be going, I
want to just get it done here, that's what you said. I was
like, so why didn't you just get it done? I was like,
I might get a few other things done while I'm there, my breast,
But it actually worked out like maybe one hundred dollars less and it's like,
oh, well, I'll do some other things over there, Like well,
I mean I'll be able to work remotely, so it's not like I'm actually
just taking it full holiday. Plus it's a little bit of a writing retreat.
I've got some projects I want to work on, and being away from
the every day I don't know, you usually get in a different mindset or
a better mindset to yeah, you know, I want to do this,
this, this, and this, and you know I'm gonna be there by
myself. Lou's got stuff on. So it was to be like, Okay,
there's an opportunity to sort of like have a little time around the pool,
come back and do some writing, a little more time by the hooked
on monkey phonics. Yeah, good, talked on monkey phone, get bitten
by one of the monkey So yeah, but I'll be over for about a
week. Yhich, I'm going to miss a couple of episodes, but you're
going to be in all this show. Just one one episode of this just
one episode of the show. Yes, but you'll be in the capable hands
listeners of Elliott J. O'Neill. Yes, so just this episode and one
episode of the South Park podcast gone down to South Park, so listen to
that. That'll be Elliot j for one episode as well. I think guy
will be back. But speaking of going to places, mister Davis, Simpsons
go to Bartaicle Bay in this episode they do and do we finally got to
talking about the the AQDIC. This was an interesting story in the sense that
essentially like a Simpson's go to episode. It kind of had the without the
coming of your Bag story and the gags. It was essentially like a Summer
of four foot two episode where it's like the family going to holiday somewhere,
but it's not a hey, let's go to the country another country and take
the piece out of all the stereotypes. It's just the Simpsons go on vacation.
They do, and at least it wasn't a Homer ruins the marriage the
holiday. He does by accident, but it's not like he deliberately is an
idiot and fox things up. You know what I mean to say. This
is the first time that Homer has messed up and I actually had legitimate sympathy
for him. It's like, no, he was doing You guys are solid
and you know this was just to kick us job too. He was doing
really well. I mean, that could be his new gig, firework coordinator.
I mean, I've never really considered that as a I never considered it
a job in all, honestly, but I'm guessing there must be some sort
of you know, talent to it. It's like, yeah, yeah,
you gotta do it this way, and then it builds up to this,
wait for the for the crowds, or yeah yeah, so yeah, but
for the you know, what happens to happens like that's a homeless faults.
Don't string him up like a like a prize shark. I mean I was
kind of like I kind of had the same mentality. You know, you
didn't. But with ice cream, with Margie, with the black hair,
where he crashed into the things, I'm like, at least he wasn't being
a dickhead. He was trying. No, no, I agree, I
agree with you on that point. So yeah, it certainly wasn't his fault.
But this time around utterly faultless, and at least Marge didn't like to
say, you ruined the carousel from when I was a kid. That's what
I was seeing. It's like, you know, it was already a disgrace.
He fixed it. He fixed it, but he made it. Yes,
he put the things in motion. Correct, He delegated very very well.
Yeah, and gave Marge a lovely, you know, not memory but
re memory. Yeah, I guess, or you know, allowed her to
relive a childhood memory in a very nice fashion. And yeah, after that,
then it's over. But well, the whole story is basically Homer trying
to help Margor relive a loving childhood memory. Correct. And it's like,
and she says one moment in this episode where she's like, oh, you
made an effort, and I was like, I love and hate that line.
It's like, it's nice and he's done it, but I hate that
you as a sh I acknowledge that it's such a surprise that he's making an
effort. Exactly right, Yeah, I mean considering that for a very long
time, Home was a goof and a fucker. But you know, one
thing he always got right is that, you know, he was a good
husband. Yeah, and even when he was a bad husband, he was
kind of like, oh, should I've realized I'm a bad husband, And
you know, I've got to make amends to this and make it. It's
not to be that way in the future, whereas you know, over the
last few seasons, it seems to me at least that it's like, uh,
okay, you're just steering into he's a goofball husband who's fucking up and
doesn't really care like any other sitcom, Like any other sitcom exactly right.
What distinguished the Simpsons from so many other things like that it was like,
oh no, there's a call that you know, this character while the fuck
up is pretty good at this and it didn't try and hit you on the
head with the full house mentality of it. You know, let's have a
nice positive message. It was like, you just knew they loved each other
very much. So now it's obvious that would try to push a message here
an agenda. By the end of this episode, so Lisa's enforcing her beliefs
some to the townspeople about catching the young young fish and ruining the oceans and
overfishing to the point where essentially they have to ruin another thing to save another.
What do you see is the overall message you're trying to say here?
It's a tough one, isn't it, Because it's like, don't be an
activist never works it never works. Yeah. Is it like an anti activists
or is it like, no, be an activist but also be aware that
you can't save everything. I think that's more. That's closer to it.
Absolutely, It's like be aware that you know there's gonna be some collateral damage
whenever you sort of want to kickstart an economy or yeah, make sure that
people move livelihoods. Yeah. Yeah, so I don't know. I think
they not drop the ball. But I was thinking about that that final bit
where it's like it just felt out of place. Yeah, because I was
actually quite enjoying the episode, and I just had that the perfect storm parody
and stuff, and I was just like, ah, so now you trying
to what we're supposed to be learning something. Yeah, when they start chopping
down all the trees, I initially and again, sorry this is the bline
I'm saying with increasing frequency, but you know, I don't review what we've
what you should have? Yeah, we've got. But I thought it would
have been good if like they chopped down all the trees to rebuild the pier.
Yeah, okay, and it's kind of like it have the carousel being
rebuilt, new horses being carved out of the wood. Yeah. Yeah,
actually it's a good ends and it's like a bittersweet ending because list you can
see Marge happy on the carousel once again. Yeah, and it's sort of
it's the truth. The name of the place, I want to say Botany,
But so you'd have the pan out, could be Marge on the carousel
at least looking at it, going oh it's great. And then the background
to see the trees being chopped down. Yeah, it's a bit of a
reboot for as well for their economy and all that. But you know,
and oh, this talent was dead has now been brought back to life.
But you gotta kill something way better ending, get in touch your pals down
to one guy I read, But how about speaking of the things we say
every week? Now? All right, well now that I'm going to take
this week off, I'll come, I'll listen to a bunch of our podcasts
and go, okay, stop saying that, that, that, that and
that. Now do we ever get the I was Billy? Okay? They
Billy the Fisherman. Is he the skipper because Maurice Marsh voiced Billy. Was
he the other one not the faust? Whatever it was? Was he the
other one, yeah, because I think the only name checked. Two other
because the actual skipper. Do we get his names? I don't think we
did. I'm like, is he a guest star and apparently he's not.
But then I don't think Billy said all that much. Now, i'd have
Maurice ens to say that one or two lines. But also, I mean
Guesta sab Shimono, who, Yeah, he's it's a name I recognized.
I think he's been a bunch of stuff. But I think he probably only
said one line as the as one of the Japanese sailors at the end,
wouldn't he. Yeah, it's like, oh, there's all these different fish,
a lot of garbage fish today. It's only like that. Yeah,
I mean a lot of waste. This guy is sort of like a veteran
character actor. And get him into say one line and then give him guest
voice credit. It's going on there. Yeah, so so Billy is the
first mate, he's the blonde guy. Yeah, so he barely says anything.
How odd have Maurice Fausto has more lines. I feel like Maurice was
just visiting his palace at the studio one day. I want to voice this
guy for us. Dan's got a sore throw. Hak's been canceled. Hag
doesn't want to do anybody white. He's foto, He's too white. That's
no challenge. My favorite. What were your favorite moments in the episode?
Hmm? What did I enjoy? They made use of a piece of music
that I like a lot. I got the music as well. Yeah,
Aquarium, Yes, from and I was giggling this. Let me bring it
back up. It is well. It is part of a humorous musical suite
of fourteen movements by French composer Camille, saying, so, I hope I
am pronouncing that correctly. I just put like to put a little French mustard
on that one. Yes, but it's part of the carnival the animals.
But yeah, the piece is called the Aquarium. I've heard it a bunch
of times in different yeah, different movies and TV shows. But it's like,
oh yeah, this is a really enchanting piece of music and one that
sort of does it's good shorthand for memory, you know how it's what is
it? Wayne's World was like flashback Sibity finale. Yes, this is kind
of the classy version of that. It's like, let's have a memory.
Oh dud, dude, Yeah, I'm sorry. I was really pleased they
use that music. I like that a lot, especially because in the Simpsons
lot with Alf's music, it's it's a lot of it's different, but it
all sort of feels like simpsony. When it's not Simpsons music, it stands
out absolutely. Yeah, it makes the episode feels special. A gag that
I thought was pretty funny. It was when Patty and some were showing the
home movies and I just gotta laugh at the crab or the lobster thrown onto
someone's face. I don't know why I thought that was I mean, but
yeah, anytime someone gets like a marine animal stuck on their face, I
tend to get a laugh out of it, like an octopus or something.
I Professor Frenklin octopus. I was when Bart does the testing and the octopus
and the glass explodes jumps on. I like that. Had Job, Job
and Ling were there. Oh that's right, Yeah, that's true. Yeah,
I mean everybody came along to the to the outdoor theater. Have you
ever been to like an autol cinema like that, like a driving you mean
down, I've been to a sit down one It was in Danilong and it
was just like a pub kind of place. At the back, we've just
set up a screen. I was like, cool. There were bean bags
and some popcorn. And I went to a county fair when Lu and I
were in California last time, and it was this year. Sorry, this
year this yeah, yeah, last time. I don't know whether you meant
the time four. Yeah, because you've been twice, haven't you. No,
no, no, we've only been away a few times, and you've
never been in lowist states. Not in the states. Okay, yeah,
you take somebody holidays an confused, that's correct, just a man who likes
to get away. But we went to a county fair and I was yeah,
this is the opening scene of this gave me a lot of flashbacks,
like there's a spot, funniest spot. Yeah, I need a patch's big
enough for our for our chairs, our blanket. You know, we don't
want to be in front of someone who's going to block our view, but
we don't want to block anyone's view behind it. Like when you go to
a Day of the Green. Oh yeah, absolutely, yeah, we go.
You going to that? Have you been win BB before? I'm not
going what's the next one, what's to go to the Chemical Brothers? Oh,
it's right, is that down the Green I thought it was just a
gig. Okay, yeah, I think it's going to go right off.
I'm kind of looking forward to. But yeah, so I've got a bit
of a kick out of the just lobbying for the best spot at some public
event like that, because yeah, it's can be real, pretty difficult,
one of those hard things. I'm thinking about the Chemical Brothers rights, Like,
when you've established this reputation of like you're going to go to the kids,
it's going to go off, It's like, oh, I'm old.
I don't want to having that reputation of having to deliver a gig that's going
to go off every time must be exhausting. True. True. I mean
I went to a concert the other night at the Bow Club down here in
Gelong. Ye. Who was it again? It was the models Models,
Yeah, big in the eighties and as you can tell by the crowd that
was there, because it was very I would say generation X heavy with a
dash of boomer Did he come out and go you guys got it's a number
one? That's funny. I mean they right now they've got to that's a
super park reference by the way, for Go down South. Yes, tune
into Oh what was the review the monkey Phone? I already teased it once
in this podcast. That is correct, don end of that one? What
was I saying? But they had two big hits in the in the mid
to late eighties, and they played one of them during their main set,
and then it was like, all right, that's a good night, and
of course we've got to go more. Who no mask? Imagine no one
did? Did do you then go back out on stage? Or do you
just call it? And I know, yeah, but I think they must
have planned it because they played didn't play their biggest hit, and it's like,
okay, well we're getting it. It's almost an unsigned contract between the
audience and the band. It's like, all right, we'll get you come.
I hate the encore. I don't get it. Is it a chance
with the band to go off and get a drink and have a breather.
Well, these guys didn't. I mean this, It was like they were
offstage from maybe thirty second. What's the point, Well, what is the
point? I don't get it. Yeah, Like I said, it's an
unspoken contract. In a bit of an ego boost for the For the guys,
it's like, all right, give us more, we want more,
Come on, give it to its. We love you so much. It's
embarrassing. I'm not a huge fan of on cares. But then I think
I've told you that. My good friend Mark and I went to see Prince
back in twenty eleven and we were there for one encore, which I mean
it was rad. It was really really good, and I was like,
all right, now we're gonna split. And next day he saw the playlists.
It's like he played two more ONNG cares and he played When Doves Cried
during one of the old cares. It's my favorite Prince song. And now
Prince is dead. Well you left before when Doves Cry. You thought he's
gonna do a gig and not play that song, you madman. Prince has
got a rather large and varying body of work. It's when Doves Cry,
I know, And I'm like, oh, he played a whole bunch of
other bangers. I didn't get when Doves Cry. That's fine. We'll always
have Purple Rain. I can go home and listen to it there. It's
like going to fucking guns and Nose and going. No, they didn't play
Sweet Child of Mind, No Member Rain or Welcome to the Walking to the
Jungle. That's okay, they'll play it next time. We got a whole
lot of Chinese democracy, and they did do Paradise sittings, So okay.
Yeah, I enjoyed the music. I also enjoyed what else of my favorite
moments nothing? Did you enjoy the appearance by side show mel or did you
enjoy the time that they spoke loudly in the whisper? Or did you like
the gay gag? So the meaning when he was like saying march at the
window, is that what you say with the loud whisper? I forgot't exactly
when it happened because I'm watching this and I'm like, this isn't sort of
like the same thing where he was just like he's like much come out and
see No, not that one. There was another bit where but he was
doing that whisper. Was he it was the mister Thompson? Yes, yeah,
I this is actually another point whened touch on before we get into a
trivia right, So it seemed it reminded me when of the sort of thing
in jubjub. So it's clear that I believe it was Kevin Current who wrote
this. Yere Kevin Current. He had obviously he's up to date with like
things that have happened previously in recent scenes of The Simpsons, right, so
he had the Van Houghten's together as a unit. There has been no callback
to that episode when she found the bra, but she found much as bra.
That's right, yes, And it's like are they together? Are they
not together? And it's just been no acknowledging of that since, Yeah,
you can't sort of have one bit of continuity and then disregard another. You're
either all in on the cannon or you're not. Milhouse Divided is an iconic
episode where they got divorced and then they got back together, but then they
all like split up again because you can't like it's either I don't know,
just I know Kot knew it. He's not a big deal. But it's
just like kind of of Nelson's dad. I'm like, wait, is he
in the picture? Is he not in the picture? Yeah, that's the
thing. I mean, Yeah, if you're going to, yeah, reintroduce
certain characters that, yeah, I have only been seeing briefly, but it's
like, oh no, well that was a pivotal part of a certain ever
changes when it's changing the life of a main character, and you can't just
not include, you can't just throw it away. I was just I was
just confused. I was like, wait a minute, So they are together,
because we've been asking are they together or not ever since? Yeah,
apparently they are. Apparently so according to the wife aquatic. Anyway, next
question, you there eating the beast, right? Mister Davis hit his time
for trivia, which means it has also times the names of who we now
referred to at fourthingk a discount as our stonecutters. So we've got Katie G
with her one hundred dollars support, as well as Andrew's over his fifty dollars
support. Absolute Legends, Jordan Molman, Richie Christopher Darby, Jonathan Rossi,
Zap Pruitt, Tim through Bells and George mcmaemee, Stephen Roberts, Sean deVie,
Pete Anderson, Andrew Davis, Ryan Dunlap, Jared Howard, Kevin's Denzil
Planned Flood, Joe Yolan, Daniel Kott, Nick Shannon Hope, O Reese
Roberts, Bellow, Window Bank, Mark Boston Burgess, Jack McFadden, Heath.
That will be Adri McLeod, Lewis Kavanaugh, mart Reli, Even Ginger
and Pickle, Preston, Murray, tari Alara, Jake Massado, Declan Phoenix,
and Brian McCoy. Remember, if you are a stonecutter of ours a
fourth Finger Discount, you will be assigned a number, and that number is
yours forever. So even if you jump off, which I don't know why
you would, but if you jump off, you still will be that number
on the Fourth Finger Discount Stonecutter's list. So get in early so you can
get a lower number and be officially part of the Fourth Finger Discount Stonecutters.
All right, miss Davis, let's get into our trivia. I wrote down
a few things and thinking, oh, this is going to be like a
brief sort of not even visual gay but just like a visual point. Yeah,
And then it turned out to be something a bit later on, because
I was like, my initial question was, oh, what is Marge riding
on the carousel, and oh my god, you're nothing doing nothing but talking
about the Seahawks. So but I do have one or two that might stump
it, including what is the name of the silent movie that they watch?
Ah, no, what is it? It's farmyard Follies. I call it
a waste of my time. This is just going and going and going and
Nope, there's no payoff. Not really. No, I mean you're trying
to sort of pepper in some stuff about wow, this is boring and yeah,
let's throw radish. Yeah I told you that two minutes ago. I
just went for so long and I was like, I don't what is this?
Yeah, I mean I think we all acknowledged, you know, the
part of silent movies in cinematic history, and also realize that, you know,
no one wants to watch them these days. Yeah. But yeah,
for you to devote this much time to it, you're really stretching out.
You're inciting incident here. Yeah. I would preferred to like the flann has
made their own silent film or something. Well. Yeah, but then while
the townspeople are why were they all there? Did they not know what was
going to be aired? It's like, hey, come watch a movie outside,
brought to you by Flanders. We won't tell you what it is,
though, pay you money and come watch it. That's a good point.
I mean, yeah, again, just throw in a line like, hey,
we were going to show you whatever. I mean. I think it
was the Alamo Draft House. The Chaine of Cinemas in the US would occasionally
have like not gimmicky screenings, but I think they did one where they set
up one of those big screens on like a floaty thing in the middle of
a lake and you could go out in like tubes and watch it. And
they put on Jaws. I've seen it. How fucking cool is a That's
like, it's a pretty good idea. Yeah, that's not bad at all.
Imagine it's like at night time. Oh, of course that would be,
and you're like, I'm gotta see what happens in the movie, but
oh, I really want to go back to dry Land. I don't know.
So to have it be like an event and then it's like, well,
due to technical sequences, is we're going to be showing you three D
We're going to be showing you this. Okay, well we're here now.
And you know, also make something of the fact that you know, everyone's
lobby to get these really good positions, like but then we oh, I've
got a great position for a shit movie. Yeah, that's true. Yeah,
it also is a good chance. I feel like it's been a long
time since I had a good Simpsons like riot with the right music. Would
you be few if he went to like a like a drive in or whatever
and it was meant to be Jaws and they played deep bluec instead. Well,
no, because deeply see kind of rips. Oh yeah, deeply say
it's not bad. I've never watched it, really, I've always just been
told now I don't watch it. It's not as good as Jaws. Well,
a few things are as good. It's like, don't don't eat that
quarter pan. It's not as good as sex. It's like I understand it
is. Don't wink. It's not as good as sex, is it?
Is it? Not? Yeah? You wake it? Sex is not as
good as the real thing. But no, I don't think it'd be disappointed.
But at the same time, like, uh is not the one that
has like the there's a shot and always terrified me as a kid. I
used to see in the trailers. It was this movie of like them in
like a shipwreck or something, and it's like there's a shark coming towards them,
like a fin coming towards really close in the water. Yeah, that's
that one. Okay, are pretty good. I just remember that scene that
looks see it I madin. I was like, that would be scary deeply.
He's definitely worth checking out. Okay, is it? I just got
shit? CGI. I don't think it's actually that bad. Okay, yeah,
I mean I rewatched it recently. I'm like equalm in the mood for
nothing about the story or anything. So I'm literally going out fresh, oh
good, going completely blind. Okay. You can maybe turn off before the
end credits because Llo cool Jay's in it and he does a rap over the
end credits. That's not great. Okay, Well, some people tend to
think it's pretty good. I myself do not. Listeners of the podcast you
may feel differently about l A Cool Jay's rap over the close of Deep Blue
se let us know what you think. So you're reviewing it back in the
day, you're like four and a half stars and credits. I'll make that
three and a half stars. LLL, I'm cool. All right. My
first question for you is what is the name of the Japanese fishing boat?
Well, I was in Japanese and I don't know Joe. Yeah, so
it says ruka koshi kiroshi mahru, which means dolphin killer. Okay, well,
not bad. When the Japanese showed up and there was fishing involved,
and I'm like, you're gonna take a swipe at these guys, aren't you.
Yeah, when you are doing a fireworks displaying, what builds suspense?
Green something? Yes, the greenen spiral. Oh, your very is so
close screen? What is it? Spinner? Spinner? Okay, And I've
gonna got more question here and we'll get into the review. Mine is what
is the name of the animal that march you to ride on the carousel?
Mister funny? Good feeling? Any good feeling? Correct? Hit me one
more and we'll get into this again. We're going to play a bit of
jeopardy here, because yes, I've written any answer, but do not know
the question. So your answer in the form of a question, please.
Nineteen seventy two Young Young Fish Fry nineteen seventy two Young Young Fish Fry.
While I'm assuming when did large last go to Barnacle Bay, I'm guessing that,
Oh yeah, I mean, I'm I'm thinking there must have been a
picture or something like that. Simpsons, So Young Young fish as in fry
like fry something. Yes, fish fry or isn't the main character from Futurama,
as you might hear on Tales of Futurama, brought to you by your
friends at the Forefinger Discant Network exclusively. I'm Patreon, correct, young,
I can't find anything. No, let us know, listener, Simpsons mailbag
at gmail dot com. We'd love to hear from you. Yes, we'd
love them to help us solve our own tribute questions. We'd love you to
tell guy to lift his game. All right. So the original air date
of The Wife of Corny, the first episode to air in two thousand and
seven, are interesting. Note this was the highest rated episode since season sixteenth
episode Homer and Ned's Hail Mary Pass, which aired right after the Super Bowl.
So I had a bit of a crutch there, right. Barring that
one, the ratings were never this high, although last is high in two
thousand and four with Annoyed grunt Butt where Homer builds the robot to the robot,
which is a good episode. Right, So it's been that long.
It's two thousand and four, those three years since they had an episode rated
this highly. Because the after first of one of the New Year could well
be who knows, but maybe they're thinking, oh, the Simpsons have got
a New Year's resolution, make good episode, so as I said. January
seventh, two thousand and seven, Written by Kevin Curran, directed by Lance
Kramer, The Couch gave the Couch and the Simpsons are pinned onto a bulletin
board. The episode kicks off at the Springfield Park and they're gonna be watching
an outdoor film, but unfortunately there's no place left to sit. Remember back
in the day before, you pre put your tickets for the cinema and you
didn't get to pick where you sat. You just had to get there early
and just hope for a good spot. Do you have a good saving a
seat or saving a seat for somebody else's story at the cinema? Not really
no, But I mean it's well, I mean going to the cinema now,
it was like, oh, really, you've I've got to sit in
this seat, you know. I mean, I'm used to the just you
know, you pay your ticket and you take your chance. I thought no
one went to these things anymore. It's like, what the book my seat?
I thought no one went to the movies anymore. Correct. Yeah,
but I mean the last couple of times that I've been. I mean yeah,
when Lou and I went to see like Mission Impossible, it's like,
oh, we've got to actually book seats and stay in those seats. And
then we got there and it was a full cinema. So I'm like,
oh, look like I'm next to this big fella. Wait a minute,
I'm the big fella. It's me. I realized that someone was probably looking
on a looking in a mirror. Oh my god, this guy give me
sit next to me with his lug purp good hope was at the movies.
It was about two months ago, and this check would have been about two
seats down, and it was like was packed in there right all we see
it. I can't remember. It was Nicola Knight, like at date night
and I hear this chick go oh this guy stinks to the person, and
every guy that was in the air was just like, it's actually a good
fun social experiment. Absolutely, this guy stinks and every guy is paddicked.
Then you find out who the real alpha is and that mouslem even if it
is no care but yes, they can't find a spot good spot to sit
and they have a little battle with the Van Houghton's trying to fight for the
space, and Homo uses Maggie throws like a parachute. Got about visual gag?
Yeah, and they get the spot. Then Flanders introduces the g rated
fair from yester Year. My favorite year, yester Year, because there's always
a catch whilst they're watching the movies and putting religious pamphlets on their windshields so
you will die in sin. Yeah, you know something like that. Yeah.
I can't remember the last time I found a pamphlet anything on my windshield.
I don't even do parking tickets on your windshield anymore. You just you
just get an notification of the mail. I think, yeah, that's true.
It's a lot of scary, isn't it. Yeah. I'm not a
fan of that. I like the idea of like, okay, fucked up.
It's like the thrill of like you know, you knew you illegally parked.
It's like, oh, is there a ticket? There's no ticket.
Beat the system and you see the tickets spent down of the way. You're
like, quick, children, let's get to the car. Get away of
the legal parking. Yes. Uh, they had the bullies the bullys,
who was it? They can buy any Carl and emokemplayant fixing the sound and
the color and put it in a regular theater. And I was just going,
here, what the hell is this film? And why are you even
there? You know, if you're complaining about it being a regular seem why'd
you come out? Why is the entire sprofit there? It's it's a mystery.
It's a weird set up, yet it is indeed, and you're indeed,
what even is this movie? You're asking? I mean, what's the
point of having it in this episode? Besides killing time? It's just killing
time? And I want to see other what you meant, like, what's
the deal with silent movies? I mean, Keystone Cops were like a slapstick
troop of like they're police officers, but they're always messing up. And you
know, I'm getting into wacky Shenanigan's was it most of the time. It's
because they're all really capable of pretty much. And the police start throwing badishes
at Rodden Tub, which caused it to all break down and inside show Mal
demands entertainment, and I was like, fuck, there's your mal, I
demand entertainment? Yeah, shore the movie Let's go this is our chance.
We've been carrying these hole movies around for you is just waiting for a moment
like this. Calm down, everybody, here's a movie of us. Wow,
you and I ain't hoping for porn. They put a clip up of
their trip to Barnacle Bay and I'll just go hear who is filming this?
Oh yeah, I don't know. It's like filming them from a distance,
walking down like the pier and stuff. Is this? Did you have a
pervert relative? But Marge, she's never know homus, has never seen March.
So happy. She takes it back to being a kid, and we
all have those memories of that does to be a holiday. But it's just
like I remember being there. Oh yeah, absolutely. And it's a great
one letter on the episode though, where Marge sort of says, I guess
nothing's ever as good as you remember it, And I'm like that is the
case for most things, very true, especially old TV shows you enjoy when
you're a kid. Don't do it. Just leave them in your memory.
Just watch the opening, Watch watch the music. Yeah, I was so
happy on that island, never seen March. When it goes somewhere so badly.
I'm gonna take her back there by burning that home movie onto a DVG.
We have never seen march like a DVG about a place so much.
I'm gonna make her dream come true by downloading that movie onto her iPod.
I'm sorry, I couldn't figure out how to get that movie onto your iPod.
iPods now a dated reference, aren't they very much? So? It
made two or three appearances already in this season. I guess that were prominent.
I guess we all thought it was like, oh, well, yeah,
we're gonna wait at the future listening in their life forever. Yeah.
Yeah, they just they just died, didn't they. But Apple killed their
own product I did by just slapping all onto the phone. How everything's on
your fan made sense or business? Yeah, I suppose because at one point
Andrew, we're gonna do it as well, so you might as well try
and bitten for the punch. You're don't have to sacrifice you or anything.
But they made their money from iPods. I guess that the iPod funded the
iPhone. Anything. Yeah, anything you put on an eye in front of
it was like, man, that's making a bit of money. And then
yeah, I'm considering jumping to iPhone. I'm just like I've had only because
of the camera quality. So I've had my last two Samsungs because I want
to film all of stuff on my phone. And I'm like, I see
someone take a photo of film with their iPhone, it just seems so much
better than my Samsung. I must admit this concert that I mentioned a little
earlier, Yeah, of course there's the additional concert thing now, however,
and sort of holding up their phone to get a bit of footage of the
of the band, which they never rewatched. So what the fuck are you
wasting your time for? That is true. I mean I took a bunch
of pictures because it was like, take something clear. Our friend in California,
I used to go to the bar and club a bit. Just say,
just go on YouTube later They'll but some screens I can see. It's
like that looks a lot sharper, and I'm wondering and I was too dark.
Am I doing something wrong? Like it's always at nighttime, like min
not if the lights are dim? The footage of my photos is terrible.
Oh yeah, what am I doing wrong? I've got that as well.
I mean I don't know if I'm just been seduced by advertising, like you
know, cool kids, you know, sort of taking pictures of their food
on ads for Apple or saming, Like, wow, those photos look so
great. Mine looks so crap. What does my big mac look like the
one on the board? Why does my big back look like the big bac
I ordered? Yeah. I saw a photo of a nineteen ninety eight McDonald's
menu the other day and I was like, oh, the nostalgia. It's
just like six items McNuggets, a couple of burgers and fries, and it's
like this shit was confusing. Nothing was healthy. Yeah, you get your
fucking fifty cent cookies. They weren't gonna oh the cookies. The cookies weren't
bad. Were they were awesome. There was a thirty cent cone, Oh
my god. And occasionally they bring in like a not an off menu item
was like for a limited time limited but yeah, they had the Beef Master,
which was like, okay, yeah, I think it was like two
quarter pound of patties smushed into one. Oh, that's just double meat.
It was. It was a big ass patty. Double meat is always better
double in every facet, that's correct. Oh boy, so I'm taking the
family and it's surprised vacation to Bernacle Bay. Where's Maggie? I thought it
was nice that. I'm like, wait, hom it's just actually surprising Marge
with a visit to Bartacle Bay. I'm like, what, who is this
guy? Yeah, we're sort of waiting for the other shoe to drop.
It's like, how's he gonna fuck this? Because she was like, where's
Maggie? And I was like, here we go. Oh no, this
is all going to plant. What is going on? They across their teams.
Okay, you're often not the best start with the showing the silent movie
too long, but this is all right. Question do we see Maggie for
the rest of the episode? Not to the best of my retic clip,
Lisa and Marge go to the museum. That's true by themselves. Homer's on
the boat and bart is apparently on the boat too. Where the funk is
Maggie? I guess those meth adult ice cream parlor employees was the babysitter doing
a side hustle as babysitters. They're leaving now in the ferry that the food
for the cat and off for Grandpa because of course, it's just fun to
make fun of Grandpa these days. Yes, and they're approaching Barnacle Bay that
she thinks it's the fog, and like, there is memories like that when
you're a kid. It's just like, you know, the fog or that
I obvious, say, the smell of grass being cut takes me back.
What's what's the smell for you that takes back to your childhood? I definitely
cut grass as one of them. Yea, yeah, yeah, And it's
like, oh, Bobby's out the front, cut in the lawn. Yeah,
it's very reminiscent of a Saturday. Yes, that's it a Saturday when
you're watching cartoon. Yeah, and then it's sort of a whole bunch of
other stuff clicks into place as a result. It's either you know, hearing
the footy on the radio, or the exact temperature of the sun on your
skin or something like that. It's like, oh wow, that's so vivid.
I can yeah remember all of that, or you know the song that
used to play on AM radio all the time. Yeah, I mean and
that all yeah comes into focus with just one one memory and all one sort
of memory trigger, like, yeah, the smell of cut grass or whatever.
The smell of piss and vodka and regret is like the smell of going
out when you're a teenager. They arrive, but the fog smells like Heney
turns out that her childhood paradise is now a dump. And I've had moments
like this where I'm like, I'm gonna take alliot to where I used to
play when I was a kid at this park and I get that and I'm
like, oh, the slide's gone and the extrawin all over it. Yeah,
this isn't the one kids, Let's just keep just keep driving. And
it's they make fun of Brazil here, true, Yeah, because basically what
happened was when they went to Brazil for the episode that we reviewed where my
really says the penpal correct And basically Brazil was so pissed off with that episode
that they and anti Simpsons campaign and then this is their retaliation. Simpsons doesn't
name Brazil Brazil campaign. Yeah, well they because they shit can Brazil that
entire time. Basically, Brazil just didn't like the jokes. So they come
out from commercial and Marge looks at mister funny good feeling it was all broken
on the merry go Round and it was swastikas for eyes. Yeah, yeah,
yeah, it's the way it goes. And the candy sh shop workers
they love tourist because they haven't had one for a long time. And then
whooh, this is the thing for you. I'm like, oh, caramel,
get your berries. Oh you jeez, you could caramel my arm.
I may get the knife in the sticky. Eh hm. Why didn't they
stop? Well, that's too much sugar. It's not sugar, it's caramel.
Stop mispronouncing caramel. They've got an a in it. They double down
on it. They do. Indeed, then they asked them so call him
Skipper, because don't think we get his name, the Skipper of the Rotting
Pelican. Yes, rotting Pelican was initially one of my trivia questions, and
I was like, we're seeing this ship a lot more than I thought we
were, so cuts that one out. They make a joke about Clinton here
wiggling his way out of another one dated in two thousand and seven. It's
bad to say. I don't think anyone watching cared or or kids were you
who Clinton was? I mean, we're at the tail end of the of
the w Bushy is we're about to elect Obama because he ended in two thousand,
right, yes, yeah, so it's seven years he hasn't been in
office. And it's like the whole sex scandal was like bit dities. Yeah,
and at the time, I mean, it was a thing, but
it wasn't really. I don't think anyone was like, oh, we're gonna
remember you know, Bill Clinton for that sex scandal. It was we're like,
oh, yeah, this happened. I feel like it's the first like
Clinton gag in the Simpsons for like seasons, and it happens here. Yeah,
in two thousand and seven. What's going on? This island has been
on hard times since well since the young Young Fish disappeared. Yum, young
fish. Oh, yum, young fisher. I will used to eat here.
They're the most delicious fish in the ocean. Better than Cride, much
better. Oh baby. He brought him in by the boat load day and
night. Than one day they and they were gone. Maybe you just overfished
them, maybe they underspawned. Maybe you killed the nile. Remember the fish
killed themselves. Maybe you should be a shamed of yourself, or maybe you
should marry Millhouse. Yeah that's right. I know about Milhouse that margin realizes
that nothing is as good as you remember, and I'm like, yeah,
I feel that paid. And then Homer says he knows three people who can
make mudget tream come true. And it cuts through the candy shot workers and
then not only them working with the Simpsons to sitting there with their glasses on
the chili in the sun home. Then course March at the window and I
liked this and know whether you liked with a cup house business, and he's
fixed the carousel for her and oh Homo man effort. Yeah, as I
said a line that I'm just like, eh, you've got Yeah, it's
really is one to be ambivalent about it, but it's like, just let
us think that, don't say it correct. Yeah, there's a few instances
throughout this episode where it's like, you've got gags that should work or that
could work on a different seconds, but they don't really land. Some are
poorly conceived, and we'll get to that when we get to that. Yeah,
there's one or two others where it's like, like Dan's timing is wrong,
which is odd because Dan's normally got Swiss watch kind of timing. Yeah,
anyway, but yeah, that's yeah, that was one. We're like,
this could have gone either way. So they're on the Merry Go Round.
We call it Merry Go Round. Yeah, I mean saying carousel,
merry go round, don't call it. Yes, And Marge says, we
are the kids and they're having some exercise operating the Merry Go Round. Then
the day's not over yet because there's a fireworks display which has been done by
Homer. And yeah, he's just he's kick assing, he's rocking it.
Yeah, he's doing a great job, and everyone's excited by the finale.
I'm like that I haven't seen a good fireworks displayed for a long time,
Like we haven't just gone because the kids are always asleep by the time the
fireworks are going. But I can't wait to take the kids to see him
for the first time because they've never seen fireworks really never, Oh my gosh.
I mean because I don't usually do it to like nine point thirty.
No, you're usually pretty late when we do it here in Geelong at least.
Yeah, because I think we do the kids what I mean, yeah,
yeah, what do we do it for? I mean, we really
do it for day New Year's at the show, they do it as well.
Okay, but they usually do it at like nine point thirty for the
kids and then like midnight on New Year's Eve for the adults. But my
kids always a sleepy night dirty. But I think this year maybe I'll kick
him up, because like, can you remember the first that we saw fireworks?
Not the first first time, but I I've never been I can remember
the age where you sort of got bored of them. Yeah, the allure
kind of wears up. I mean I get the feeling that certainly here and
Gelong and with all due respect to the people who put on the fireworks here
and Gee Long, it's kind of like, okay, and what are the
same And there's a green spinner all that kind of stuff. I mean,
I keep bringing up my trip to California, but I mean, yeah,
we were there for the fourth of July and went to this canty fans around
the lake. It's very nice. Everybody was there and enjoy and enjoying and
having good time. They did a fire dog, it had my corn dog,
and they did a fantastic fireworks display at the very end that went on
for a very long time. But it's like, I don't think I've enjoyed
fireworks this much in decades. I mean, this is just you know,
it's it's well timed, it's well choreographed. They you know, they was
a music playing like Arica. There was there was a bit of that,
but mostly it was kind of it was you know that marched me did.
Man, it's so fireworks. It's just like that. It's just like fireworks.
And I'm sure I've said that. It really made me buy into you
know, we sort of make fun of our American how Americans get USA America
is the best country world. Look at this kind of like I kind of
buying into it. You guys are pretty great. You've got a lot to
be proud of. But this is obviously where Homer, unfortunately as kick us
as ears, accidentally burns down the pier. That's not that's not it's just
shit happens sometimes. Yeah, well it's a purely active god. A gust
of wind gets a spark and it hits the sole pier that goes up,
and it's something you're setting the fireworks at the pier. He's doing away,
like you've said, from the pier, but like away from the pier,
and the wind blew it back towards him correct. Ye know, he was
doing everything right, and then nature just conspired against him. And then the
town conspired agains him because they weren't happy about yeah, and they tie him
up. I got really uncomfortable with the hook in the nose and everything.
I was more like confused by like Marge's lack of really caring. She was
just like, at least they didn't you know, do they left your clothes
on or you underwe And I'm like, your husband's hooked up by a fucking
hook. Yeah, and he's you know, it's clearly affecting the point where
he's sort of doing that bordle bordle, the kind of stroke speak. I
guess what I say, which is uncomfortable. I've got to I've got a
deathly fear of having a stroke. I've got to say, Man, heart
attack I can handle, hopefully, it'll just take me out like that because
of all my cholesterol and I've eaten that a straight's worth it. I regret
nothing. Uh yeah, but a stroke, I'd be like, ah,
so what's the difference between a heart attack and a stroke? Then? I
think I think a stroke sort of cuts off blood supply and to your brain,
doesn't it. I know, I know what happens is, Well,
my grandma had a stroke and she can't move her arms, her left arm,
probably anymore like the whole left side of a body. I think its
with the nervous system. Yeah, I don't know. I'm not mad on
that happening. I'm not matter it even happened in touch? Would that ever
happens? Touch? Touch? We go to whatever this is, how do
you want to go out? Oh? And a pile of money surrounded by
many beautiful later very much. It's a cop out to say in my sleep,
that's that's the dream, right, very much? Yeah? Yeah,
or just but but quickly. Yeah, I don't want to drawn out.
That's the plan. You'll never see it. Gun. He's giving me back
in two weeks. But the sailor here says he can come fish off all
the all the money that he owes now to rebuild the pier. And he
says, are you queer, strange or quick gain? Yeah? A bit
of both, And then they let's traffic in some stereotypes. Then Homie gets
introduced to the crew. I want you to meet my crew. It's my
first mate, Billy, and this is Fausto. Yeah, he just plays
with that knife all the name. It's my great man. Now I need
a new thing. I liked Fasto with his knife. Yeah, his thing.
He's gonna find a new thing because he bustled his knife. I feel
like if this was a character in like a season eight or seven episode,
we talk about him a lot more. He's like he stands out because he's
like a season eighteen episode, no one ever talks about him. Yeah,
but I mean he was like one good one liner away from being quite memorable.
Yeah, because I feel like people would be going, it's my thing.
If you feel like in the Golden ear of the Simpsons, you know,
yeah, that could be he could he could be quite memorable. Yeah,
he really could. Yeah. I quite liked him. But then Homer
eating the live fish for me not great, but that the ugly fish that
was like, oh, and he's like, let me just test make sure
I need he buys it. I'm like, that thing's alive. Yeah,
gross, stupid doesn't make sense. No, not for me. Homer then
serves baked for dinner and realize that he's done the wrong thing. Is this
where he's doing the loud whisper? Could be I think, well, I
know he says it's it is because he goes, you're very ugly. It's
opposite there, Yeah, okay, yeah, that's right. Yeah. But
I did like the fact that Homer, being an idiot, turned out to
say the day correct. Yeah, about him ruining the day for a change.
Yeah, and the young young fish take the bait because of Home's bait.
They they it's catching the fish again and saves the town. But I
hated the chief fish clubber Homer. I did not like that at all.
Look, I'm trying to think of ways that this joke could have possibly worked
as a joke. I mean I can't no, just like I don't know,
maybe have the leader was Homer's wanted a job on the whole time or
a title. I mean everyone's got like, you know, Billy does this
and Fouso does that, and that's the like, Oh I wish I was,
you know, a proper seaman and had it like a job or something
like that. Here you go, Homer, here's your job, and he's
kind of like, ah, and then that's it. But yeah, him
actually like clubbing the fish quite graphically well, I mean you don't see the
fish getting club. You see the aftermath of it, and to the tune
of at Last, which is a really lovely song as well as like I
get what you're going for, you know, the whole juxtaposition of beautiful music
and really disgusting act. But it doesn't work in this episode, and it
just doesn't work generally. Just had an idea of another way we can sort
of tweaking your ending and adding it just throwing things out there. So Lisa
her whole thing, she's already planned the seed of She thinks that they're overfishing,
right, she wants them to stop overfishing. They get back to the
shore and they look at all the fishness thanks to Homer, and I'll hear
Homer, you can be the chief clubber, right, And it was like
go home. Lisa's sitting there looking at home and going, don't do it,
dad, and Homa's like, I can't do it. I can't,
my little girl. And then Homer ends up letting the fish all free.
And then they come to conclusion, well, how he's supposed to rebuild the
town now? And then it cuts to the tree. So then Homer Lisa
gets her wishes, he makes he does a good father act in the process,
he wins us over his viewers because he doesn't club the fish. Yeah,
the fish will go free if you have to have the fish coming gag
and have like another person do it. We just don't have the fish getting
club have Homer not Well, you've got to have that set up, you
know, you've got to have it set up before, Homer. You know,
it's like one of you're like the person who normally clubs fish doesn't survive
the shipwreck or doesn't survive the perfect storm. Homer, it's your job now.
And he's like, oh, no, I can't do it. I
don't know. Maybe I was thinking that they just go back to the showl
without the perfect storm, the whole perfect storm. So we take that out
of the equation. It's the case of, well, then you've got a
whole like five or ten minutes that's just missing from the episode. More silent,
more, more silent movie. Oh boy, this have we han't clear
us yet? Gay panic? Yes, ship never too much? Oh god,
just fixing the Simpsons. It's harder than we thought. But you're right,
I mean, yeah, the club in the fish gag did not land.
No, not at all. No March and Lisa then go to the
Barnacle Bay Oceanographic Institute the signs of SpongeBob and the global warming in the next
three years di rauma thing, and we see the guy seeing the Perfect Storm.
Just in case you weren't aware, this is a Perfect Storm parody.
I've never seen the Perfect Storm another movie? Should I watch that one?
It's a pretty good one, it is, okay, Yeah, you're a
good cast, well made. Is it just a disaster movie essentially? Not
really a disaster movie or such. I mean it's more so like a you
initially think, oh, this is men just when you thought it was seas
to go back in the water, men working together to you know, overcome
obstacles, and you know, it's pretty good. Who's in the Clooney Wahlburg
Cloney in it? Yeah, cloneys lead. I always thought that Josh what's
his name was in it? Now that's that's Pearl Harbor, isn't it.
Yes? Yes, yeah, different p a completely different person. But it's
also a harbor and waters. Yeah, Perfect Storm not bad at all.
In fact, I think they've sort of tailored the captain to look a bit
like Cloney and Perfect Storm. Ah, maybe that's what it could be then,
because it just seems like you've gone out of your way to make him
feel special. This is this screams guest star does. Yeah, that's what
I was thinking. I was like, Oh, is that so that was
Maurice Smash Okay. Then it turns out you couldn't get George Cliney for this.
I was thinking, Yeah, clearly the stage would have he been because
remember that stay he was in South Park and showed up on friends collect them
all from the network like that's it's amazing. He never sort of stuck his
head into Simpson's HQ. Then Fausta doesn't like to look at the weather and
this trick knee plays up the cabin. I'm like, this is my dad.
My dad used to say this. He goes, Rain's not coming when
he doesn't hurt. Oh, He's like, yep, rain's coming to my
knee hurts. I'm like, daddy full of ship And turns out the rain
would be it's true. My friend Anthony has that's weird. He'll know that
you know storms are coming when when he's when he's bad, knee acts.
How do you know he's check the weather report? But we come back from
commercial margin is now concerned because they've seen it's gonna be a perfect storm,
and she's in the lighthouse, she's looking out, and she thinks that she
concentrates hard enough they love are so strong that she'll be able to hear his
thoughts. I think that's from Perfect Storm as well, is that it's been
a very long time since I've seen them that establishing like Star Wars. Maybe
we think of a film before that where it's like reading someone's thoughts. I
guess they did, like Toilet Zone and stuff, didn't they Yeah, I'm
sure they would have, but I'm trying to recall if it actually isn't Perfect
Storm. But I get the feeling does have sort of some melodramatic moments like
okay, yeah, if not necessarily like read my thoughts come back to me.
It's more like, you know, you'll have someone like it's better they're
going I want them to come back to me, and all that kind of
stuff. But you do sometimes have that feeling where it's just like I just
concentrate hard enough, I could be able to read, not read someone's thoughts,
but it's just like I can sense them somewhere. I've never thought this
I've never thought this. Really. I was like, you know, I
remember my uncle first passed away when I was younger. I'm like, maybe
if I just like think hard enough, I feel like I'm like not communicating
to him, but it's just like he can like I can sense him.
But having said that, I was like, twelve, Yeah, have you
said that? I mean, I think I've said on previous shows, I'm
really interested in deja vu. Yeah. Oh, I've experienced it several times.
Yeah, and for it to happen it's weird, man, it really
is. And I mean, I mean it's something that really happens well to
me least, and clearly. I'm like, I've dreamt thish, I've been
through this moment, even if it's just like three seconds of like I was
in this particular spot and yeah, this particular thing was happening. I don't
remember anything else, but I do recall this. It's enough to get you
thinking, Okay, are there like multiverses and all that shit is? You
know, are we all existing? Is everything happening all at once? Someone
about to put a chicken in my life and make her gain? But yeah,
I mean that is a South Park reference. Is indeed a South Park
reference, tuning to go down to South Park where we talked about the panaverse.
Indeed. But yeah, if something like that exists, and empirically to
me it does, what else does it? What else does exist? A
ghost? Real? There's like the thing is, there's a reason for us
being here. We're just too stupid to figure it out, and we never
know. Stop trying to figure it out now, just just dig it,
just live it, Just enjoy it, jkl Man. Just keep living.
Don't worry about what you're going to be doing after you're gone. Just fucking
enjoy what that you're here? Correct, correct it? But you need to
finger discaps, that's the thing. Yeah. So then we get the boat
getting destroyed by the water, and we turn the bart Is in the in
the life raft case, so they've got no life raft now of course as
well. And he's not there because he loves Homer's there because he didn't want
to do ars and craft. We didn't want to paint crabshell. Yes,
just smash him, and Homer says, you did the right thing. Then
Moe and Lenny and Carl Or get a terrible feeling that's something bad has happened.
The Lenny to Fausto and marged hover and they go to leave, but
it's raining outside, so they don't. I'm kind of glad because I thought
it would have been a really cliche ending for Oh the fans sends something,
so now they're going to go and save the day. Was that a Perfect
Storm reference at all? I'm wondering about that. I think it might be.
I'm doing a bit of research Internet research because there are a few things
I wanted to find out here. Let's have a look at notes no reception,
they're not really telling us anything. No, thanks a lot, Wikipedia,
because yeah, like I said, it's been a long time since seen
Perfect Storm. But I'm pretty sure there is a thing where it's you know,
all these people who live by the water, except they don't in Springfield
are kind of like, oh boy, oh they're out on the water.
Oh, something terrible was gonna happen or something like that. I was wondering
about, and I think we might be an into this. The bit where
Homer goes to the bow and is like she to the golf ball at the
bower. Yeah, I'm like, what's what's all that about? That's going
to be from something? Right that has to be perfect storm has to be
you would think so. But I was, yeah, I'm going to google
perfect storm golf ball, see what happens, okay? Or why yeah,
wife are quite a golf ball even or both perfect storm golf ball and we
get nothings perfect Storm movie movie storm golf ball. Because I was very curious
about the meaning of the point, because it seems like it's just got to
be a direct reference to something. But I couldn't find anything online. So
let us know, listener, Simpsons mailbag at gmail dot com, can you
tell us what they were trying to take off there? If anything, please
do because even like the visual, just look the way it looked at it
looked like it was just a direct rip off of something very much so.
But I watched this and I was just getting anxiety, Like I'm scared of
water at the best of times. I can't imagine being in this kind of
situation. I've seeing a wave just approaching the boat like that. Oh goodness,
yeah, no, absolutely terrifying. No. I mean, I've been
fortunate never to be in a situation like that, but I imagine I would
soil myself quite dramatically. Yeah, they cut to before we get that though,
so they say they say shit prayer, and then the captain says,
don't worry. The sea would never take a lot of a ten year old
boy. Than is it here? Should I hate him with the shovel?
That's that's that's that's another whisper. Yeah, what's the code word we've avoided
this time of the entire episode? Oh mad see give her a fish,
take her of boats, toilet to the world. The Greeks call you Poseidon,
the Romans Aquaman, look into that starfish heart and protect our souls so
we might live to go tubing Undy again. Do you think your mother will
ever remarry? In about two seconds, will you let up? Shud chuck?
The Greeks call you beside, and the Romans Aquaman. I'm like,
your timing's off, Dan. I mean you just say, you know,
if you sort of didn't have that gap between Romans and Aquaman and be like,
you know, your brain's gonna take it second or two to catch up,
Like, oh wait a minute, that's not bad. But yeah,
you're sort of like Aquimen. You don't need to sell us on the punchline
that much. But then we get the pre scene that hopefully the boiler blew
up and shared their faces straight off, and I was like, you know
what, I was a little bit un comfortable. I was like, because
of what happened earlier in the year with the submarine that explained that. I
was like, ah, it's kind of apparently laugh at this kind of stuff
anymore. Really, A lot of people were yeah, no, I feel
bad for the kid, absolutely, yeah, yeah, because like, you
know, great adults, you like this kid. He went along with his
dad, and I'm like, how old was he? He was he a
teenager or fourteen fifteen? Oh? Fuck, yeah, that's that's not good.
Nah, not good at all. But they arrived okay, and the
Portuguese police are there to get faster, yeah, the immigration department, yeah
yeah. And he bails and then explains how he said the day. Turns
out he said he found menmaids, and I was like, oh, what
is going on here? And then turns out he actually just passed out.
They get brought up by a Japanese boat. How times to jump back in
the water. They really fucked the ending up with this episode. I think
it's kind of a mess. I mean I felt very rushed. Yeah,
I mean, I like the idea of they want to build thro the perfect
storm, and it's like, but how do we get out of it?
I don't know, Homopix, he sees me cut down some trees. That's
everyone's sad. Yeah, the tree, the tree bit. I mean,
I think they sort of botched it a bit, but I think it's not
a bad idea in concept of life. Yeah, for this town to succeed,
something bad is going to have to happen to the natural world. Yep.
So it's either you know, you over fish or or you cut down
every tree. I mean, a happy medium. Doesn't it exactly make for
good comedy, But we do get a Larry Flint, We get a Larry
Flint reference. They are bad, yeah, for all his hustler and barely
legal magazines magazines. So overall this episode, yeah, not as bad as
what was last week's one. It was that bad that I didn't recall the
hall hoarded couple. Uh no, no, hang on a sick It was
killed Gill Volumes one and two. Oh boy, no wonder our memories failed
us. I think it was our brains were thinking better than us and trying
to do a good job of suppressing. Yeah, that was we didn't like
kill Gill Volumes one and two, but we didn't and we didn't mind talking
about it, and hopefully you don't mind listening to it. What do we
learn, Bomber? Would you learn for the episode? Mister Davis? That
for me to get my issues of Hustler and Barely Legal, it's worth cutting
down a forest or two. How many magazines do you do you think you
purchased a Hustler over the years. Oh no, I don't think I have
a purchased Hustler or any new dy magazine. Oh you're plenty. Yeah,
would you like to see my collection? I'm a child sorted by althabetical and
by breast size. I'm a childer before the Internet, but which I meant,
well, I was a young adult pre internet, so like and kids
won't experience it anymore, But like, I think why generation would laugh?
This one's where you had that one moment growing up where you found Newdy magazine
in a fucking a bush somewhere or something. You're like, this is gross
but cute. I'm not seeing this in real life, so I might as
well check it out on the printed peek. No, I never bought any
Larry Flint publications because they always struck me as kind of it's gonna I'm gonna
sound like a bit hell and love joy here, but or more flat but
bit vulgar. You know. Hustler was always we're showing you the whole butcher
shoppers as they as they say. But you're looking at You're like, I
don't know if I should be looking at this. Oh yeah, it's like,
I'm not studying medicine. What's it lighting? I think it's a lighting
clickor well you can see your kidneys. It's like, this is too much.
I don't think I want my smart with a little for nest, which
is why you that is the quote of the of the week. I want
my smart little fitness. You'd get Playboy or Panouse. It's like, okay,
well, you know he's a naked lady. But this thing is the
lighting is very nice and you know, it's quite tasteful. But at the
same time, hey, that lady's got new pants. So yeah, for
you know, a not enlightened teenage boy, you know, also horny,
it's like, yeah, this is getting a spot, getting it done.
Also, I was talking about this with the Made of Mine online and the
fact that you know, back in the late eighties early nineties, it's a
it's a cliche to say, wow, I read Playboy for the articles.
Playboy heads are legitimately good articles. Yeah. Yeah, the film reviewer was
actually really good. That's an I was talking about the guys like, we
can't say this to anybody because nobody will believe us. But yeah, the
guy's name was Bruce Williamson and he was a legit good reviewer. Hey Bubby,
when I grew up, I'm going to be this and he's like,
you ain't going to be no woman by the article is dad, this is
the twenty first century. We're not being that inclusive. I have a look
at this for the leaders look at this for the article's dad is going to
be reading that Dad magazine for the articles from this forward. Your name will
be all right. It's some of the guy Davis new name Championship. He
curn't leaderboard stands at this in first position, we have three way time Luke
McKay, Philip J. Hawkins, and Kyl muldoon or on ten points.
Oh my god, that's I couldn't believe it last week. Yeah, but
you know, it's just constantly shifting. It was like, oh my god,
this is incredible, and yeah, a three way tie for first place.
Let's see how it goes. We dropped some new names and the first
one that gets one point is Nautical by Nature. Oh that is Luke McKay,
which puts him out right first for now, my god, for now
on eleven points. Well, let's see who gets two points for the dull
Sidon adventure. That is Brian Hughes with his first points of the season so
far. So that means that Luke is still safe in first position on eleven
points. Well done Brian on two points all right, but three points go
to deadliest catch. Ooh so these three points change things around. So but
not for Luke McKay. He's still in first on eleven points. Philip J.
Hawk's and Camaldin still on ten and second now, but Justin Williams has
jumped from three to six points, putting him outright third. Oh boy,
Justin Williams, well done with her three points. Now we have an outright
third position. Well done, Justin, very well done, Justin, and
thank You's things interesting? Yeah, looks like you better not miss you come
for the King. Our first one comes from Andrew JP just for you.
Yeah, have you ever been fishing? I tried it once on a weekend
away with cricket mates, but I wasn't a fan. I have been fishing,
but yeah, I think like you Andrew JP, I was, is
this all there is? I have to hope this worm. But putting on
a hook, well there's that too. Yeah. There are some people who
make it look very you know, fulfilling. I like looking well, not
for hours on end, but you know, a good fly fisher, how
they're sort of very elegant with their rod. The idea of like catching the
fish, I'm like fine with It's just like I feel bad about catching it
and just letting it choke to death, yeah, or doing the smash or
the or the slit or whatever. Yeah. And as far as like just
you know, sitting on the dock of the bay with your your rod and
your reel, It's like, I imagine that could be like quite a meditative
or contemplative pastime while you're just waiting. It's like how golf ruins a good
walk, Fishing could just ruin a good sit by the bay. Fun story
for locals here, So you've been to Geelong, you know, we have
the Adventure Park. Right, we do one of the earliest home videos of
myself when I was about three or four, I want to say, and
the Aventure Park used to just be a trout farm and it's my dad knew
the guy who owned the trout farm. And there's a video of myself,
my dad and my uncle Jock fishing at this trout farm and me catching this
trout but I wasn't really, I don't really it in. I get the
bite and I just run backwards and to the fish that I out of the
water. That's brilliant. So yeah, so that you see footage there on
this whole video of where the Aventure Park is, there's just nothing there.
It's just traut f traut far, just me not really just running backwards until
the until the fishes eventually add the w on like half fifty meters down the
track. It's brilliant. Did you guys is from Ryan King. Did you
guys ever watched movies on an iPod? I can't believe we used to watch
movies on a screen so small. I still have an eyepodclastic that I use
every day, but only for my music and podcast. Sounds like a man
of your taste. Indeed. Indeed, I used to have like the little
iPod Nano and I actually threw down a few bucks recently just to get an
MP three player, because foolishly, I thought, I'm gonna go running and
I want to have music, but I don't want to carry my phone while
I'm doing it. I mean, I've got I've got wireless headphones for my
for my phone with your big old man flat case. Now as well,
it's so heavy, that's the old man phone flapcase. That's true. I
went through various sort of things. I bought one of those things that you
put around your your bicep and you put your phone into their I'm like,
dickhead, Yeah this sucks. Look at me. Why did I do this?
Some children? So you can put our phoness high up on our arms
tryse. Plus the other thing is my guns are just so huge that it
didn't work exactly. But yeah, I ended up getting a little MP peas
three player and like, yeah, why do they stop making these? These
were ale? Yeah, this is what Andrew JP actually brings up something here.
He had a PSP fifteen years ago. With PSPs and he used to
get um D movie discs oh wow, who are those? And I was
like, oh, yeah, they are going to be a thing of the
future. No, they died it with the HDDVD. They didn't And every
form of physical media. I never watched anything on an ipile. Did you
see JB High Fire's physical media section. It's getting smaller and smaller by the
year now, Oh yeah, this isn't it. I was like, Oh,
it's like the dark corner of the shop now. Yeah, like you
can get more Funko pops and you can do yeah. I'm like, oh,
like half of yeah physical media section is now collectible shit like pops and
game board games and stuff. And I'm like, ah, oh boy.
Yeah. It was like one row for like Blu ray like new release Blu
rays now and I'm like that's right, and that's not even normally releases.
Yeah, like the four K sections just like one shelf now. It is
Yeah, sad, sad times. But no, I never watched it on
on a little screen. I don't really watch movies on on my phone or
anything like that. I will watch YouTube videos on it, though I have
sometimes like watched things at work when I was like watching Simpsons episode to reviewed
ever on my lunch break at work. That's all. I had my phone.
But if I can, I will not know I have be able to
watch somewhere else. I will not watch my phone. Yeah. I mean,
given the option between say, watching it on my laptop and my phone,
I'll inventiably take the laptop. Yeah. The order you get, the
harder is to see. There was that time the subtitles on a phone screen.
Brian Hughes, did you read the Sebastian Younger especially Younger book? Yeah?
Especially Yeah, I'm not sure if you do pronounce it younger or Younger?
Write the perfect He wrote the Perfect Storm. Yeah, I've never read
The Perfect Storm, but he wrote another. He's a actually a really fucking
fantastic journalist, and he wrote one of the best nonfiction books I've ever read,
actually called War, which was he got sort of embedded with was it
good for anything? No, absolutely nothing, saying it because death. No.
He wrote a book called War, and he was sort of embedded with
this with this unit in Afghanistan, and it was I mean, I'm so
it was the Perfect storm, a real yeah, perfect song plased on a
real storm. Because Brian followed up by saying he found this episode incredibly tasteless,
considering that they made fun of the deaths of at least thirteen people.
It was a big deal in nineteen ninety one, that's true. I mean,
I guess it's enough. Time has passed it. I'm like, yeah,
bad, like those guys, what's luck I brought up with the with
the submarine. I was just like, it just feels like, I feel
like no one's going to make like submarine death for like, was that really
that's almost starting to fade from you know, the public memory as well,
it is, but it just feels like, h on top of that,
you had a lot of dipties of those rich folks got what they deserved,
which is wrong. But I was like, yeah, but there was a
kid on there. Very true, very true. Uh, Brian, Yeah,
Sebastian Young fantastic. But is it the books great? Okay, well,
it's one that I really should check out. But yeah, I mean
yeah, Sebastian Young is a really fantastic writer, and his book War is
one that I certainly recommend. A couple more here Kira and Russell. It's
a fishing related question. Do you have fishing lakes slash ponds in a straw
that offer fishing in great numbers. I remember knowing one guy getting a European
match fishing pole shipped over. As you said, there was a very small
following for the UK style fishing, and it's always made me wonder. Good
Lord, don't quite understand the question, but is it. Do you mean
like a trout farm. We've got the bay. Well, we used to
have the thing down, remember see got paddock like this. It was an
annual thing. I don't do it anymore, but they used to put out
into the seag down where McDonald's is in ord Toh yeah, yeah, the
water there and it used to be a trout catching competition. So they put
the trap in there, let them grow and then whoever caught the biggest trout
would win into the shooting the fish in a barrel competition. That's what it
sounds like. That's not a big place. No, it's not at all
that, but it's for the kids to go down and catch the trout.
Again, that's nice. We've a Cory Bay around Geelong and I mean I
see a lot. We've got a lot of big snapper around there. A
couple of weeks ago. Okay, then, yeah, I know I often
see you old Greek gentlemen with their fishing rods. Yes, my my,
I was so proud the other day. So we're walking around the promenade at
Eastern Beach here, yes, and you know it's deep out there, right,
and Elliott's like, we're looking over and he goes, dude. I
was like, what are you doing? He goes, jaws could be down
there. And I was like, ship kid, you scaring me? Getting
you educated that kid? Well? And you know, did you see my
status the other day about the a c DC. I did. So I'm
sitting in here editing right. Nicholas out there. I say this in the
Friends podcast last night. Nicholas out there cooking with Elliott and Alice, just
like stirring the thing. And then he just goes, lock up your daughters
and lock up your wife. And I was like, man, yeah,
little bond Scott, Yeah, he like he loves he said. He literally
sat down last night because I hate He finished school early, kit together the
school orientation. He finished kinto early, so he was back like an hour
early, and I had a bit of stuff to do, so much just
sit here and watch TV. He watched nearly a full hour of an ACDC
concert. Loved every second. He's just into ACDC now. It's just he's
thinking Angus Young's like his hero. Oh that's brilliant. A little lyitch.
One more question, one more cash question, Justin Williams. Are there any
places you went to as a child that you loved? However if you go
there now, it's a disappointment or it's very run down. There's an amusement
park and campground about an hour from me that my wife and I loved as
kids, but we took our kids there last summer and it was just completely
crap. What's the one place for you? Oh gosh. I mean,
well they've remade sort of to the Eastern Beach Promenade. Yeah, I mean
Highlight Park. I went there are a few bit. A few times I
bring it back and I see photos and I'm like, it looks like it's
like Dodgers in a couple of life. Oh yeah, it was kind of
a death trap. Yeah, even back in my back in my day.
And there's like there used to be a giant slide near Seagull Paddic that I
was mentioning. It was like bringing back the giant slide and I'm like Dad's
like, yeah, it's not funning any more. Like Dad, would you
like ore you go down there? Think you see how fucking high it is
and there's no side rails on it? Well, is the reason it's not
there anymore. Kids probably died on that thing. Which one are you talking
about? Is a giant slide near Seagull Paddic behind mc donald's, Well,
oh yeah, I'm thinking one there there's one that used to be there used
to be a playground next to McDonald's KFC on the Melbourne Road. That's the
one. Yeah, Is that paddic is the one's tracking behind North Jaal McDonald's
now the body of water. Yeah, that's there's a North Geelong one.
There's the cry on McDonald's, the Cryer one, so they said on the
hot because that's also on the highway. Yeah, and there's KFC McDonald's right
there on the highway asking Oh my god, that is correct. You mean
it's dead park? Is that what it's called? Yes, yes, yes,
it was a massive playground. Yeah. When I was little, I
used to go up to Channel seven every Sunday with my dad because he was
on this TV show call whorl of Sport and on the way back. We
would always stop at Stead Park and so Dad could have a read of the
form guide in the in the newspaper and I would get out and play and
that. Yeah, they had that massive slide. That was fantastic. H
And now I look back at its like, I'm surprised I didn't get like
urns or no, like slices of my butt cheeks taken off like at the
deli. Yeah, because it's like, I'm pretty sure two of these things
are not quite a so you get a bit of And then they took the
playground down and replaced it with an information center, which in twenty twenty three,
I drove past the other van went who the fuck is going to an
information center? In twenty twenty three there's people like ultimately there's people in there.
Employee like what are they doing? Who goes in there? It was
like, hey, go, where's an information center? I'm an information center?
What the fuck? But yeah, it's usual. But Donna had a
point, this used to be my playground. Yeah, that's it's usually playgrounds,
isn't it. Where you still looking and go, oh, you used
to be fantastic, and now you've either been you've either fallen to disrepair,
you've vanished, or you've just been made over into a into a modern playground,
to a safe playground. That's correct. No one's gonna break their armor
here. It's like now one will find a question for you. Are you
ready to go to BALI very very close? Yes, yes, I've got
got my passport, gum my sunscreen. Yeah, that's pretty much all one.
But we'll discussing before on the air. There's always that fear of forgetting
something isn't there and you know you're gonna get to the airport and go fuck.
Yeah, So I needed this now to have it. I mean,
I pray myself on taking light just as just as you do. And I
mean I'm not taking check on luggage. I'm just taking carry on luggage.
So it's like, can I take a laptop or anything? I'm taking a
label top. Yeahah, It's like, how is gonna wasch porn dead?
What am I going to masturbate with my memory? Idiots like a caveman?
No? No, no no, But I'm like, oh, can I
get through eight days with seven kilograms of stuff? And yeah? And how
diligent are they going to be when it comes to I'm just taking on this
bag. Well it's seven and a half kilos. That's going to be nextra
three hundred bucks. I'm like, oh, man, probably would be the
case. So yeah, it's just a matter of like, well, I'm
going to a hot climb and I'm probably not going to need that much clothing.
So yeah, I'm pretty ready underwear nop, Yeah, minimal underwear,
bare, minimum of socks and yeah, just a few shirts and like two
pairs of pants. I want you to bring me back a bootleg copy of
a twenty twenty three movie though, Okay, I'm looking a BCD of what
John Wick four? Do they even do that anymore? I hope? So
I think they must because I found went to the garage the other day I
was cleaning about. I found a VCD two discs right of eight like at
Freaks, Oh my gosh, fantastic spider movie. Is this a fantastic spider
movie? You could do worse. That's arachnophobia. I don't like an hotmophobia
because spiders got killed for the making of that movie. Okay, because is
that what we seen getting run over in the cars and that? And I'm
like, this is actual animals getting killed for the sake of my entertainment.
Yeah, maybe it's been a wile since I've seen Arectophobia. I remember being
good. I don't remember too many spiders dying in the line of duty,
but unlike a milon otics correct, Yeah, how many milos and notices you
think they went through? See I used to love that movie as a kid.
And he'll read that story and you're like, ah, shit, that
cat was actually just thrown off a cliff. Oh oh, that cat was
just put in front of a bear and just see what happens. Oh shit,
fun man, end the podcast. Fun but no, I'm pretty sure
I unpacked, but I will be back in the near future. But in
the MIDI you're gonna so the episode, maybe you can watch it while you're
away. The episode you're going to be reviewing. So Revenge is the dispatch
served three times. Next week is with Elliot Joy And I told him yesterday
I like this one you're doing. Oh god, this is awas death.
He was like, I'll review this one like twice already on his show and
another show, and is like, do I have to do it again?
I'm like, you don't have to, Like, I'll do it again.
Take one for the team. Not all heroes wear capes. No, so
the next episode where guys returning will be Little Big Girl. Okay then yes,
speaking of a Little Big Girl. I for this week's episode of four
Figure disca Etra spoke to Carolyn the me name. Her first episode that she
ever wrote was Little Big Mum and one of the gags she wrote. One
of the one liners that she wrote for the episode was nothing it are sper
sexy Flanders. What a legend. Yes, she's earned her place in history.
Halloween of Horror, Yeah, mid Childhood Night's dream Like. She's just
my favorite Simpsons writer of all time, and she's absolutely lovely. We speak
for nearly ninety four minutes. If you ever listen to interview yet, make
sure you do so. I'm quite proud of it because you know when you
listen to some interviews and sometimes you listen to it and you're like, you
just wish the interviewer would shut the fuck up. It's like they asked a
question and you can tell the interviewee is like still in the train of thought.
An interviewer tries to help them finish their sentence, like just let them
finish, right. There's a good, like eight minutes in this where I
don't say anything. I'm just kind of just like, oh yeah, I'm
sort of like acknowledged, but I don't say anything, and it's just like
I'm just letting her speak, and I'm like, it just shows go back
to my first interviews that I did like fifteen years ago, and I'm so
nervous and I'm constantly trying to like fill the gaps, and now it's just
like ask a question and just let them speak. Automatic five stars for eight
minutes of Dando silence. So check out that interview that's available right now on
our feet as well. But thank you, guys for listening to our review
